back at it again with my ianthony playlist!! i genuinely love romantic songs, so i was able to find some really sweet stuff for this. anyway, here’s the list!
Maybe It’s You by the Carpenters
This Guy’s In Love With You by Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass
If We Were Vampires by Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit
They Long To Be by the Carpenters
A Thousand Years by Christina Perr
Favorite Record by Fall Out Boy
Close To You by the Carpenters
Your Man by Five for Fighting
here’s the playlist, and as always i yap more about specific lyrics under the cut! also, i finally chose a cover pic for the playlist.
Maybe It’s You
THIS LINE. It fits ianthony so well- I mean, have you seen the way they look at each other? There are so many examples of Heart Eyes Padilla, and Ian always looks so proud when he makes Anthony laugh. Exhibit A: the Trivial Pursuit TNTL. Exhibit B: the way they looked at each other when they were both masons during the Werewolf vid. Exhibit C: the entire 2008 Smosh Bit City segment. These two are so happy to be together it’s leaking out of their eyes.
A Thousand Years
I recently rewatched the Reading Anthony’s Angry Letter video, and these lyrics reminded me of that. I think deciding to try to be friends again, to become business partners again, to intertwine their professional and personal lives again had to have been a scary decision. It’s a lot! But Ian and Anthony have mentioned that everything had to happen the way it did, so it was all worth it.
In the movie version of their story in my head, this song plays during this scene: Ian and Anthony are sitting on Anthony’s deck, it’s nighttime and they’re watching the stars and chatting. There’s a lull in the conversation, and that’s when Ian asks Anthony to buy Smosh back. Anthony agrees, this song starts playing, they kiss, and we cut to a montage of cute moments throughout their friendship starting in middle school all the way to the reunion lunch. Fade to black. Also, I’m sitting in the movie theater crying into my popcorn bag.
Favorite Record
Ok, now that I’ve dried my (happy) tears from that last song, here we go with the next one. I’ll admit- I’m not the most well-versed in old Smosh lore, but it seems to me that music was something for Ian and Anthony to bond over. Like, in the Herd Mentality video, Ian was so sure that he and Anthony could name the same music artist, and in the I Spent A Day With Ian Hecox, Anthony mentioned that he listened to a song he and Ian used to listen to together right after he left Smosh. So; in my head this song represents how Ian and Anthony used to be these two middle schoolers playing video games, listening to music, having so much fun together, and then they grew into adults who still choose to have each other around. Similarly, I’ve seen a couple Instagram reels that friends who grew up together do that have a caption like- ‘me loving her at 26 remembering how I loved her at 12.’ And now I’m crying again.

Hi Nohr! This headcanons game looks fun!
How about.... Daichi for it?
deru!!! hi<333 and right !!! i remember having a blast the last time i did this!!!
Songs on his iPod: daichi's sappy.... he wont admit it, but love pop songs always makes his head clear if hes grumpy.
celebration (feat. toko miura) by radwimps if we were vampires by jason isbell and the 400 unit and then also starwalkin' by lil nas x for ultimate motivation when he works out!!
The one place they fall asleep – where they’re not supposed to: oh, daichi learned his lesson first year in high school to be careful where he rests. there's people around him not to be trusted..... but one time, and its one time only and he will take this information to the grave, he had a night shift at the local police box he was stationed in and he. he fell asleep!! gasp!! it was barely for four minutes, but he's still riddled with shame to this day, even tho it was during his grunt days. not even sugawara knows.
The game they’d destroy everyone else at: daichi's competitive for sure, but sadly, its more bark than bite in actual practice. HOWEVER, there is ONE and i mean ONE mini-game in super mario party for the switch that he decimates ANYONE in. even kenma!!!! its sizzling stakes!
The emoticon they’d use most often: 🙃. he doesnt know its passive aggressive. he thinks its a quirky smile. no one dares tell him
What they act like when they haven’t had enough sleep: he rarely ever goes without his sleep. he knows how important it is to keep up with his physical and mental health and after the grueling study days back when he was younger, he cares even more. he needs to be alert at all times when he's at work, so he's a proud 9pm sleeper. there are times, however, where overtime and cases makes him slip. he is very unpleasant
Their preferred hot beverage on really cold nights or mornings: daichi likes his coffee extremely hot and rather bitter. he says it warms him up even more? freak
How they like to comfort/care for themselves in a slump: he cares very much for his routines and are well-aware what they do for him. so whenever he hits a wall or a slump, he re-evaluates everything in his daily and weekly affairs. when he realizes he's been neglecting social stuff like seeing friends over a beer, he rectifies it pretty fast. if hes REALLY stuck, he will find support in the people around him by ranting and venting out all his thoughts and frustrations. it can take a whole evening if hes frustrated enough, as he likes to circle around the subject multiple times, to really cement his feelings and process them.
What they wanted to be when they grew up: definitely a ramen cook when he was tiny. whenever his parents took him out for ramen as a treat, his starstruck eyes would observe everything the chef did, and ask enough questions to tire out a patient man. however, his local ramen joint always loved his visits, and often gave him tips on how to improve his food in small ways at home, too. the hobby didn't really stick though, but the tips are still used to this day.
Their favorite kind of weather: sunny, but windy. a day where you can go for a run and not overheat because the wind helps regulate your temperature. it's a good day for a date sightseeing a shrine or climb a mountain together.
Thoughts on their singing voice: daichi wants to sing deep inside. his deep, delicious voice also invites you to think his deep timbre would be soothing. but he's tone deaf, so it comes out flat and scratchy.
How/what they like to draw or doodle: daichi draws birds to pass the time. fat, round birds like dera from tamako market. theyre not realistic, but they ARE cute!
thank you for sending him in. i really love daichi!!!!
send me a character and ill fill out these headcanons

One of my favorite genres of music is folk/country music that is about loving someone till death. They often have the most hauntingly beautiful imagery, and are so excepting of death. This is mainly about "If We Were Vampires" by Jason Isabell and the 400 Units and "In a Week" by Hozier and I highly recommend both. These are honestly some of the most romantic songs I have ever heard because.

i know you have a hardshine playlist, but top 5 hardshine songs 👀
ohh shit this is fun
here's my hardshine playlist as well if you want to check it out (they're probably all gonna be on here if i'm fucking honest)
If We Were Vampires - Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit [Maybe time running out is a gift/I'll work hard til the end of my shift/And give you every second I can find] This is like THE hardshine song, if we're honest with ourselves. The idea that you wish yourself immortal, so that the time you spend together could possibly be trivial? It's so perfect. And this song is something I really have enjoyed for years so adding hardshine context to it makes it that much better, for me.
Work Song - Hozier [No grave can hold my body down/I'll crawl home to her] I was conflicted for half a second what number 2 on this list would be and then I remembered this bitch. God fucking damn. Not only are the lyrics so true to them on like a wider level, but Hardwon has literally, time after time, attempted to overcome the impossible to save Moonshine. To get back to Moonshine. The bargaining with the death horseman, Jake begging Murph to let him give Moonshine one of his luck points. Attempting, as a man with -1 intelligence, to fix a teleporter that wasn't working just so he could save her. (also the mental backflips i did to not name any of my recent fics with lyrics from this song. still can't believe i won that struggle)
After the War - Branches [My home is in your arms] This one is big on loneliness, and the kind of crux of the two people meeting ending the loneliness. And I think that's at the heart of hardshine, right? That before they met, they were both lonely and alone, in their own distinct ways. And then Moonshine walked into the bar. And in an instant, Hardwon found the home he'd been yearning for, while Moonshine finally found someone who would take her culture at face value and never try to belittle it. It's why Twinkling Lights plays under Hardwon meeting Red and asking Moonshine to live at the Crick. One way or another, they are defined by finding that safety in one another.
Love Like This - Ben Rector [It's a million things about you and I don't know what it is/I have never known a love like this] One thing that makes hardshine so beautiful, to me, is the way that it's so drastically ill-defined. Not even in the way that they never tell each other their feelings in canon, but also like the way that Jake and Emily have talked about it and the myriad of different ways they've played it. They're best friends, they're soulmates, they're in love, they can't stand more than 20ft apart without feeling lost. I think if you sat the characters down they'd have such a hard time defining, truly, what they mean to each other. And the idea here of a love that defines you while you also don't know the true depth of it feels right for them to me.
Hello My Old Heart - The Oh Hellos [Oh, I don't wanna be alone/I wanna find a home/And I wanna share it with you] Obviously home is a theme in my picks, which I feel like I have mostly explained already. But this one really hits a C3 stride for me, because it's kind of talking about returning to feeling like your heart can accept someone. And I feel like there's an insane paradigm shift that happens for Hardwon, post-distress signal. He's opening up again. But his heart does already belong to someone, and he just has to find home with her once more and his heart will remain safe, with her.
Bonus #6 is The Twinkling Lights of Galaderon. For obvious reasons
#rude to make me think about hardshine this close to when i need to sleep#i gotta do shit tomorrow and now i'm plotting... thanks!!#naddpod#hardshine#asks#anon#top 5

🎶✨when u get this, list 5 songs u like to listen to, publish. then, send this ask to 10 of your favorite followers (positivity is cool)🎶✨
Or…..
What songs are you going to play for Pero when you bathe him? 🧼🛁🫧 To set the mood or maybe fall asleep to? Or just for funsies.
Morning Nerdie!
So obviously, the second half of this question sparked many thoughts! Provided Pero exists in a modern AU, what music would he even like? I'm thinking rock, obviously. He seems like the kind of guy who would go to a rock concert, stand at the back with a beer and nod along. He'll join you in the mosh pit and make sure no one jumps anywhere near you by standing behind you and scowling at anyone who gets too close. If you get him drunk enough he'll start swaying worryingly from side to side, he might even raise a fist. If he puts both fists in the air it's time to take him home, he's about to pass out.
I'm think he was heavily into Soda Stereo, Nirvana, Soundgarden, Alice in Chains etc in the 90's and kinda stuck in the alternative rock, grunge field, sprinkled with some singer/songwriter stuff. So based on that, this is the mellow, soak in the tub, getting a nice massage, maybe drinking a whiskey play list for Pero:
Dead in the Water - Noel Gallagher
Everlong (acoustic version) Foo Fighters
The Funeral - Band of Horses
Nutshell - Alice in Chains
Lithium - Nirvana
Future Days - Eddie Vedder
My Wrecking Ball - Ryan Adams
River Cross - Pearl Jam
Cover me up - Jason Isbell
If we were vampires - Jason Isbell and the 400 Units
Tagging @din-cognito for the Pero related content!

This is the single-most haunting and lovely and tragic song I’ve ever heard. It’s a perfect song.
