I was talking to Lane Hutson about adjusting to playing with a full cage in university and now with the visor. And you were talking the other day about how you played with a cage in university and the eye injury you suffered and then put on a shield. Was it peer pressure that made you not wear a visor when you came into the league or was it you just wanted to play that way?

I couldn't wait. You grow up watching the NHL and guys wearing nothing. And I think it was one of the things that... look cool. [laughs]

Yes. But I think I came in the league, I was a small player. The league was big boys. For me at the time, I definitely wanted to show guys that I wasn't scared. Not saying that was smart, just at the time, the era I came in, I had to prove to people I could play with the big boys. And probably, having no shield helped me like 'hey, he's got some toughness' I guess. Not that I was fighting or anything. It was just an era.

Honestly there's nothing like feeling the wind in your face on the ice, like hitting you. It's pretty cool, it's like the outdoor rink. Going out and skating with just a toque on. That feeling, of the wind blowing in your face as a hockey player, is an unbelievable feeling. To get to do that in the NHL was pretty cool, but you know, you have to adapt.

The game was just speeding up and the way people were shooting the puck and the stick on puck and the tips and stuff. And obviously I took a puck in the eye that made me reassess the coolness.

Are you surprised when you see guys today still playing (without visors)—there's only a few.

Oh I can't imagine right now playing in the league without a shield, the way the game is being played.

as for saejima, i do miss him being solo... like he's funny with majima at times, but as wack as Y4 was i still really liked his coliseum scene, and his prison adventures in Y5 were a real treat too..

So ive been obsessed with this minedai fanfic for a few months now and i asked the author i could translate it bc i read it like a million times and i wanted to do something with it and they gave me permission and man i really recommend translating fics bc you start appreciating things more and bc you have to read it very slowly as you translate and you imagine the scenarios way better, its actually very fun

game wants my email to play, i give it my email. i don't play game, because it was kind of eh anyway. they send me emails, because i gave them my email. i ignore them. they send me more emails. i ignore them. they send me email with a subject title that is essentially 'hey free stuff !!!!'. i boot up game. game wants to update. i know this takes forever so i do other stuff in the meantime. it doesn't finish updating for 3 hours. my computer is lagging. my music is bugging. my stylus is trying to fake another death. it's finally done updating !! i hit 'play'. loading screen for 30+ minutes and i can't listen to my music now because i don't have the option to turn off game's music on the loading screen. my everything is so slow. so so slow. but also.. despite all this................. free stuff.........

i feel like "normal" sports video games have been about the same amount of tedium since they've been making that shit for the second generation consoles, e.g. atari and intellivision and such. like don't get me wrong, i can love a good sports game when it involves mario or punching the shit out of a lanky frenchman, but when that shit strives for realism???? like, real sports are boring as shit as is, now you're expecting me to actively engage with them??? boring. boring as all hell. and every year studios are pumping millions of dollars into making basketball sweat more and more realistic. i feel like if you took all the money that went into sports and sports video games, you could solve homelessness in at least like 3 big countries, but no we've gotta make sure people are made millionaires for playing with balls and writhing in green flavored electrolyte liquid when they play with balls good enough. it's a wretched industry and while i don't think it should be like, illegal or anything, i just wish my fucking taxes didn't go to it. like it's not as bad as the military shit, but i feel like if we took like a tenth of the military budget and like half of the sportsball budget we could have free healthcare and shit, but no! we've gotta spend money on playing balls forever!!! there is no better way to spend my tax money, apparently!!! fuck off
