when the mlc novel gave us 'this' scene and expected us to be ok afterward | part 1
Part 1 features a scene from Volume 1, chapter 16 - where Di Feisheng and Li Lianhua meet for the first time in ten years ~
Li Lianhua looked up and sighed softly, his eyes looking a little desolate and lonely as they shone in the silvery moonlight.
He turned around to gaze at the empty courtyard. There were several clusters of peonies there. At this time of year, only a few snow-covered branches were left. Nothing was attractive about them, but he still gazed at them.
He stood quietly in the courtyard for a long moment. Finally, he stepped to the side and turned to leave.
After walking slowly for about ten steps, Li Lianhua stopped in his tracks and turned his back to the flowers.
“Who’s here?” he asked calmly.
The courtyard had been empty just earlier as he stared at it, but now, standing there in the snow among the peonies, was a man. His hands were clasped behind his back, and it seemed as if he had been standing there for a long while.
“Your hearing is even better than before,” the man said flatly. His tone had no emotion like he was neither speaking to a friend nor an enemy.
“You were heavier on your feet when you landed… ” Li Lianhua smiled gently, “...Di Feisheng.”
Li Lianhua continued, “Even though you have taken the Weeping Guanyin, your injury from back then can’t be healed in merely a day or two. It's no wonder you don’t want to leave footprints on the snow, the sound of your movement could even be heard by peddlers and petty thieves.”
The man in the peonies was silent for a moment before he spoke.
"Even after everything that has happened to you, you're still the same Li Xiangyi after all."
Even though the man's tone didn't change much, there was no denying the sincere admiration in his voice as he spoke the words.
Li Lianhua chuckled, "Thank you. And you're still the same Di Feisheng after all. I thought there was no cure for your injury from our battle in the East Sea. How did you find out about the Weeping Guanyin? Human beings are so resourceful in this world."
Standing among the peonies, the man in the green robes and cloth shoes seemed a little surprised, "Your temperament has changed a lot over the years."
Li Lianhua smiled gently, "And yours hasn't changed at all."
Di Feisheng didn't answer.

Seven Warlords of the Sea
*edit: because I like an idiot forgot Akainu didn't actually want the warlord program destroyed 😭
the real reason that Akainu *should have* voted for the destruction of the Warlord program is, besides them being filthy pirates, they were also just fucking embarrassing.
Like pathetically, how did we let this happen, embarrassing In the amount of time we have known them, between the 12 total Shichibukai;
4 of them got their asses beat by the same dude (1 of them before he even became a warlord)
2 of them went on to openly work for/ with said dude
1 of them literally fell in love with and actively sabotages efforts to apprehend this same dude
At two separate points they have actively tried to recruit (and succeeded once) the sons of two of their biggest ops.
Not to mention how 1 of them also got their ass beat by said dude's brother and then they would lose 3 more on the same day over the war for the life of said brother who was the same son they tried to recruit
2 of the Warlords would then go on to harbor/ mentor a member of this dude's crew and the dude himself! Arguably when he was the most wanted criminal alive. While the member that should have been the most robotically compliant protected the dude's pirate ship with his life.
They got played four different times on a world stage by 4 different members and 3 of said times all involved THIS SAME DUDE!
2 of the times involving the take over of a country that was then foiled by said dude while the marines did nothing.
They've had to imprison 2 of them and brainwash a 3rd
They've had to shop for replacements 7 whole times just in the span of 3 years
At no point have all seven members attended a meeting. Hell Hancock has attended not a one.
During the months before their disbandment there weren't even 7 of them! there were only 5
They are pretty sure 1 of them is fucking an emperor, 1 of them was working for an emperor, 1 of them might be (it is unconfirmed) the illegitimate son of a now dead emperor and another is protected by The actual fucking Dark King.
They literally had to fire Moria for being a fucking embarrassment
And one of them is a fucking clown
that would go on to recruit 2 other former warlords to create a guild that encourages the hunting of marines for sport and rise to the ranks of emperor.
Of course Akainu hates their fucking guts. They are quite literally the stupidest group of people he has ever had to work with in his life and they seem to bring out new levels of previously unreached stupidity in the marines! Just a cesspool of failure and incompetency trying to call itself a program.
95% of the reason Sengoku retired was to get away from these fucking idiots. He was drowing in the sea of paperwork Mihawk alone was causing not to mention the rest of their dumbasses and Akainu isn't about that life.
And that brings me to reason number 184 of why Akainu *should have* voted yes on disbanding the warlords
dealing with the fucking paper work storm and international incident that hit Sengoku's desk everytime Mihawk decided that needing to be fucked outweighed being subjected to an idiot. Nah Akainu needed them gone like yesterday.
#fucking cartoon ass villians the lot of them#I know it was techically Fujitora that brought up the bill but i like to think he did it for some true sense of justice and accountabilty#but as Fleet Admiral I'm pretty sure Akainu got a vote at the reverie and he for damn sure should have voted yes#this doesn't even compare to how much of an embarrassment he thinks garp is#but Akainu cant do anything about that but prey sincerely his heart gives out in a fist fight one of these days#fujitora issho#one piece admirals#akainu sakazuki#red haired shanks#seven warlords#dracule mihawk#boa hancock#donquixote doflamingo#bartholomew kuma#trafalgar law#buggy the clown#cross guild#mishanks#hawkeye mihawk#sir crocodile#monkey d. luffy#marshall d teach#and so on and so forth....even typing their names is exhausting#one piece funny#buggy one piece#throwing thoughts to the void#warlords of the sea#one piece shitpost#straw hat pirates#one piece marines

hey guys. I don't mind people reposting my gifs on other sites to express their own love for sam, I love to see it actually, but please do not use mine for archive/gif accounts. thanks xx
#you might wonder what's the difference but it actually is different#especially when the archive account is for the show not just one character#the thing is. I don't like that I can't choose who can or can't access my gifs#I know it's inevitable when you share things online but at least I can block people or hide their tags here#which I rarely do but still I'm holding onto that illusion of control. please let me have it😭😭😭#the things I've seen in my notifs... and how some people talk about sam in general...#I just have serious trust issues with this fandom sorry 😭#also there are reasons why I decided to post gifs on tumblr even tho I'm more used to twitter#so pls don't give me more things to worry about. this website alone is already too stressful lol#slowly realizing I'm not made for this shit...... I sincerely admire all sam stans who's been around here longer than me#it's only been like a year and a half and I'm already falling apart... :)

Genesis's childhood award, the basis of pasteurization, and the supposed fragility of Banora Whites.
A take on it from a farm kid that actually specializes in growing apples.
Was talking with a good friend of mine last night about various takes in the fandom last night and was reminded of one I had seen semi-recently about Genesis's childhood genius in supposedly inventing pasteurization.
I want to believe this is a take that comes from being uninformed as to what pasteurization actually is, considering him being the first to invent it around the time of 1990 would show a stunning lack of technological advancements in the world of FF7. Let me explain.
Shinra has had a lot of technological advancements, and we can see those constantly portrayed clear as day throughout the world of FF7. However even in the time before Shinra, during the time of the Republic of Junon, it can also be assumed that they would have pasteurization, a process that in the real world was invented in the 1800s. Exploration of the world in Rebirth also reveals multiple areas that have shipment docks from the time of the Republic. This would include the assumption that this is how people both traveled as well as transported and exchanged goods.
Pasteurization is an incredibly important technological advancement as it's allowed for the easier shipment and trade of food on a global level. The definition can be found below.
In food processing, pasteurization is a process of food preservation in which packaged and unpacked foods (e.g., milk and fruit juices) are treated with mild heat, usually to less than 100 °C (212 °F), to eliminate pathogens and extend shelf life. Pasteurization either destroys or deactivates microorganisms and enzymes that contribute to food spoilage or the risk of disease, … (continued on Wikipedia)
There are different methods such as Low-temperature long time (LTLT), High temperature/short time (HTST) and Ultrahigh temperature (UHT) (also called Ultraheat treated) however that isn't super important to this, just know that HTST is the standard for apple juice.
The point in this being that if Genesis were to have invented pasteurization ~1990, the rest of the world would have been taking incredibly risky measures in transporting food and risking spoiling for decades, as well as various things being unsafe for consumption such as milk. With the advancements the world already had by this time such as phones, war artillery, windmills, and mako reactors, I find it highly unlikely that he would've been the one to invent pasteurization.
I feel as though it is important to mention that Genesis's award was first place in the National Agriculture Awards, but more specifically, an award in the processed food category. The processed category in these awards directly gives it away in the fact that food was already processed enough to have its own category for awards. Presentation on this is in relation to the presentation of a processed product, and not a form of processing itself. In the assumption that these reflect actual reward categories, there are different categories for scientific invention as well as processing systems.
Reference page for the names/categories presented. This is not the description document.
Agricultural Proficiency Award Area Descriptions.
Although there is the argument that they likely didn't use this same style categorizing, its important to note that they did use categories within the national agricultural awards, and they specifically made the choice of processed food, instead of any of the other choices. If he really made such an important invention, why wouldn't it be stated anywhere as clearly being pasteurization, something that would revolutionize the world, or for that matter why wouldn't it be awarded in the name of development of food science?
I believe its also worth mentioning that the Crisis Core Complete Guide says "Because the fruit can only be harvested in this region, it sells for a high price on the market, but the village children don't seem to know this, …" This would be due to the fact that the Banora Whites are common-place in Banora. In a similar way to how wagyu in Japan is significantly cheaper than it is in the United States, due to export; Genesis would have an easier and cheaper time attempting experimentation methods, if there even needs to be any variation for them, resulting in juice with correct pasteurization due to his being local to Banora. (Market price on them in Banora would be naturally lower due to supply likely being higher than demand, as well as not having to worry about import and export fees. Not to mention being the place where it is naturally grown).
*In the above example I used wagyu as a comparison, however this could just as easily be any other exported food that becomes considered rare when exported, another example which is actually more rare would be the black diamond apple.
While mentioning this, I also want to say that his invention is specifically upon Banora White Juice, not apple juice in its entirety of existence. In similarity to pasteurization, this feels like an over-exaggeration of what Genesis actually accomplished.
While branching through this topic, I also want to bring attention to a take I was sent a while back on the supposed fragility of Banora Whites. While going through the Ultimanias with assistance of a friend, nothing could be found on sources hinting towards Banora Whites being fragile. My next assumption is that this conclusion was likely reached on the basis of Banora Whites being mentioned to be region exclusive, and a high-price market item.
Banora Whites are called just that because of their area of growth being only that of Banora in the Mideel region. The growth of Banora Whites is actually tied to the amount of lifestream that flows through the Banora Underground, this gives Banora a very unique type of soil that allows for the growth of Banora Whites. Since Banora is the only place where the crop grows, giving it a very limited area of growth, and since it cannot be grown globally, gives it a very high market value.
Now into the technicality of things, it could also be assumed that the sale of the Banora White was likely tied to its aesthetics, similar to the way that the pink pineapple is in the real world. The difference here being that when juiced, the pink pineapple loses most of what it has going for it in terms of its aesthetic appearance and thus reducing its marketability and price. Meanwhile, Banora whites, while although losing what would make them have a unique aesthetic appearance, could possibly have a specific flavor to them that translates into the juice.
You see, I believe Genesis's intelligence on the matter comes from not creating some life changing way of preserving things, but rather from preventing waste. Although I do not find any info on Banora Whites being fragile, it can be argued that all apples are fragile in a sense, or at least majority of them. They're truly one of those fruits where sometimes you can chuck them at a tree and only see a bruise or dent, and other times you look at them wrong and they'll split wide open.
When thinking of an apple in general, chances are fragile is not the first word that comes to mind, as many other fruits would be considered fragile long before them, and that'd be correct. However, the harvest and transportation of apples, as well as their general growth, can be littered with complications. When moving apples in a commercial wooden apple bin, when you have hundreds of them stacked together, driving faster than even 2MPH by tractor can cause shaking and damage to the fruit by rubbing damage which can create bruising.
Banora is a remote island location, and import and export of items is likely expensive, which would contribute to the income that Banora Whites would bring in (see earlier mention of wagyu and Japan vs US price) Due to being an island, the methods of exporting would have to be either by air, which would be incredibly expensive and fuel taxing, or by ocean. I mentioned earlier that FF7 Rebirth shows multiple docks and ports that would hint towards ocean being the likely way of transportation of food and people. This would require a boat to leave from down by Banora and travel all the way up the coast through the Meridian Ocean. Constant swaying of the ocean and anything unsecured likely leads to aesthetic damages which allow for even less of the Banora Whites to reach market in aesthetically acceptable shelf conditions.
Banora and in general the Mideel Region is a very coastal region that by flora alone also appears to be a very warm and tropical one. By this assumption not only would Banora Whites possibly be prone to sunburn, a reason they likely developed their darker appearance to survive, but also being internally cooked by the heat of the sun. Also being coastal could lead to strong storms brought in by the ocean leaving damage from heavy winds, pelting rain, hail, and similar damaging weather factors. Excessive rain also typically leads to apples suffering growth cracks, which also takes them off the table for being sold to market as-is.
In the assumption that the Banora Whites would survive possibly brutal conditions that are located down in that area, due to any damage caused by going across the sea, they would likely need to be packaged first while in Banora (hence the warehouse) which would also bring up the pricing on them. However, where does this leave the fruit that's been damaged? Just because it has a crack it it or an aesthetic-only scar across the skin does not mean that the fruit is ruined or inedible. This is fruit that can be used for many different things, including juicing. Juicing is a method that ignores damages that are purely aesthetic, and allows for profit where there would otherwise be none given. Genesis's invention is that of one that prevents waste, and allows for another source of income to the area.
Juicing of apples that wouldn't make it to market would keep the price of the pure solid apples that do make it to market still profitable, while also giving use to those that wouldn't be allowed onto the shelves. While its nothing groundbreaking for the world, like pasteurization would have been, it does allow for Banora to be able to sustain itself via income more, and just overall prevent the waste of more food.
Although to some its not as glamorous if he didn't do something that fundamentally changed the world as a kid, that doesn't mean that what Genesis did isn't still something that he was worth awarding for, especially as a youth. Not only did his creation prevent the waste of food, which earned him his award, but Banora White Juice also did become a famous global hit.
#ff7#ffvii#genesis rhapsodos#crisis core#ffvii crisis core#this might feel a little jumbled in some places but I just saw the pasteurization take again#so I'm just kinda saying screw it and posting it.#like idk man I don't think Genesis's accomplishments need to be overstated.#I think what he did all by just creating a way that food won't be wasted is its own admirable feat#anyways pasteurization in real world has been around since the 1800s. its kinda a key part of modern life#i think it'd be really weird if they had all this advanced technology. and then pasteurization was only 15ish years old at the time of ff7#also a very sincere thank you to my friend that helped me sort out all my thoughts on this mess#also posting this now because I can't in the morning because I will. get this. be busy picking apples.

their parents are such losers for this btw. a good decade later laios still carries the guilt of choosing to forge his own path instead of providing emotionally for his sister as a literal child because their parents... cba to share a meal with their own daughter? ik falin's endless benevolence is admirable but i can't help but wonder if it's not a coping mechanism she developed to be able to handle being alternately abandoned or ostracised by literally everyone in her life
#she looks so young i'm sick#dunmeshi#otoh i do enjoy that she's so unbothered while laios clearly struggled with the hatred they endured#bc i feel like outcast sibling duos in fiction tend towards making the female sibling more distressed by said outcast status#while the male sibling often dgaf#falin clearly still has better people skills and absolutely doesn't carry the resentment laios has towards The Masses#but a lot of laios' resentment stems specifically from his sincere desire to be liked and admired#while falin's lack of interest in gaining social approval allows her to be more carefree in the face of widespread mistrust and ridicule#oops that was a whole other post in the tags

happy wincest wednesday!! you used a crowley gif so ..what did he hear in 5x20 that convinced him they were together?
Absented from the playing field he may be, but Crowley sees no reason not to keep the radio tuned to the broadcast. As it were. The morons really are blundering their way to the apocalypse but he thinks, hopes, prays (or whatever passes in his crippled heart as praying) that they manage to pull through. He really has zero interest in finding out what fresh sort of torture Lucifer may invent if he wins; Michael's victory, so far as he can imagine, won't be much more pleasant. His imagination, unfortunately, is rather good.
The morons manage not to give up the Michael sword to heaven. Barely. Crowley's on the run from half of hell and isn't terribly impressed. A charming bungalow in the Seychelles, cheerily bright for tourists, is his most recent hideout, and he closes his eyes against the sunlight and holds the charmed coin between his hands and his mind flows across oceans and continents to -- good heavens, a stretch of abandoned highway not far from Van Nuys, California, where it's a dark midnight and that ridiculous beast of a car is parked under a tree, hidden even from the stars, and he hears:
Seriously, you okay? // Stop asking. // Just checking in, man. I mean, I don't know if your lungs bleeding is a weekly thing for you but it seems, you know. Not great. // Dean, I'm fine.
Typical. Talking about their feelings, per tedious usual. Very little makes Crowley more relieved to be a demon than hearing humans go on about their bleeding little hearts.
What are we going to do? // I don't know. Going out with a bang was pretty much my only play. Don't suppose Lucifer'd be cool with deciding the whole apocalypse thing over a game of checkers. // Dean-- // Or, I don't know. Yatzhee.
A laugh. Very short.
I was so... pissed at you. // I know. // Like, really. Like, if Cas hadn't done it for me I might've tried to pound your face in. You've just... // I've what? // I don't know. Not like you don't got every right, but... you've been scaring me, man. How you haven't been...
A longer pause. Hasn't been what, Crowley wonders. Dancing? Practicing his Estonian? A rustle, and then a sharp hiss of breath, and then this scratching noise. Stubble.
Been a long time, Sam. // You remember? The last... // Before I went down. 'Course I do. In Colorado Springs, that motel with the... cowpoke motif. A/C was busted and I think you were trying to fuse with my back, or something. Woke up welded together, practically. // I know it's -- it's screwed up, man, and I know I haven't -- if you didn't want -- // Sammy-- // I'm just saying I miss it. Miss you. Feels like -- I don't know. If it all falls apart I don't want to regret this. // This isn't a 'let's screw before the world ends' speech, is it? Because, Sammy -- // I mean it. I'm sorry. But I really do. // I know you do.
Stubble, again, and -- ah. Mouths, tongues. Wet. Love, or whatever passes for it. Crowley can't see but he can imagine -- both big men, clinched there on the seat of that absurd car, gripping and grasping and pulling at each other's jackets, and shirts, and now -- yes, belts, jeans. Et cetera. Not exactly a surprise, considering everything else about them that he's ever seen or heard or known, but a bit bold to commit incestuous buggery when all of heaven and hell are looking to chew them apart. He'll give them this: it has panache.
#happy wincest wednesday#wincest#my writing#answers#just imagine sam's big sincere!face at the end of point of no return#cas and adam are missing but so what?#sam can blow dean very earnestly to prove his feelings#crowley is rolling his eyes but. he admires it. kinda.

Decades after total nuclear war wiped out the bulk of humanity, a few roaming populations spent their days city-hopping for supplies. Before the war, City Nexi were an emerging form of artificial intelligence built for managing how a city or district functioned. These were typically used for weapons-making and were either destroyed or went rogue post-war.
Ari is the unofficial leader of a group of survivors familiar with how bloodthirsty these AI can be, because they're running on broken code, following a purpose to protect their weapons despite their purpose being long since past. Because of a drastic loss in information, it was presumed every Nexus was hostile, but Ari's group stumbles upon a Nexus built not for churning out war machines, but, of all things, urban planning. And, most startling of all, it is strikingly sentient, in a quiet, enigmatic way.
The Nexus's hub was in complete overgrowth and disrepair after so long, and quickly got attached to the first humans to fill its empty streets in years. Ari, an engineer, is thrilled to be able to repair and learn about such an endlessly complicated latticework of intelligence and steel.

Grassland Warrior Sylus has taken residence in my head. And not because of the whole claiming what he wants and throwing MC over his shoulder. Though that is significant within the fictional cultural context. The story is deeper and more heartfelt than that, like the first stirring chords of the morin khuur. The emotional vulnerability and understanding--what is said through the eyes, through palm pressed against a steady heartbeat, a gentle caress, a warm embrace-- and simple confessions, these were "sexy" to me and took my breath away. The writers for his story deserve a lot of kudos for the dreamy idyllic romance they painted and giving the warrior a big heart to match.

#nic's great orv reread#i wouldn't love kim dokja half as much if he wasn't a tad chuuni#its his secret sauce. the thing that gives him flavor#both in the sense that his sincere love for cringe things is genuinely admirable#and in the sense that he is a little cringefail ❤️

Goodness, apparently Argenti's One and Only is named in Chinese after Rocinante, which is so fitting for him, especially with Himeko's words about him in mind
#How she says maybe the beauty he seeks may disappoint him if he hound it#How he may not recognise it for what it is blinded by what he seeks#But overall his every act and his words fit so much#How his approach to knighthood is more a portrayal of a knight than a knight and so how is a little chimerical#And yet how precisely for that in the end after knowing him he feels more sincere‚ movingly sincere#And makes one regain hope and illusion in the world and everything seems more worth it‚ brighter and beautiful#Because yes he may be weird and deranged and risible but after spending some time with him one can't help but think he makes sense#Yes people can be and should be and even are kinder. Yes every little battle can be a joust that feels larger than life#because this is our life. His grandiose acts are silly but he is honestly trying to be helpful and fair and kind and he feels so sincere#that the silly acts end up being endearing first and admirable at last#And after everything‚ after meeting him‚ one can't help but regard the world with wonderstruck eyes again#Because everything is as beautiful as he said it was. How could I forget?#I talk too much#I should probably delete this later#Argenti#Traces#I'm sorry if this appears in the tag but I wanted to save the Rocinante reference#Edit: doesn't entirely fit but Velite has a bit of Sancho Panza in this context
