Another WIP with infected Caz! he's only just started to mutate in this scenario, and the shape has actually saved him from falling off the catwalks under the rig in this case!
It was quite the surprise when it happened. im actually loving working with a little forced perspective and drawing the sticky tendrils has been extremely fun! :3
idk when ill get around to finishing it but i figured i post the progress anyways!

Answered a request for a SWTD + ISM crossover and, I’ve thought about it before, but not in much detail. And so, I present to you, the detail! (more or less :/):
The events of swtd would take place around the same time as the events of ism. Like, as Desmond’s in the CU, Caz is going through it on the rig.
They escape around the same time as well, with @milestonekestrel ‘s (so sorry for the @) Caz survives AU occurring in correspondence to the everybody lives AU. (If that’s alright of course :O)
Desmond goes back to working as a therapist, in part so he can help monitor the remaining effects of Agent Rainbow, as Lucas, Rosemary, and the rest of the gang do their own parts in helping everyone heal from the event (whether the people affected are aware or not).
The Caz survives AU happens as normal (though things might change depending on if the thing with Billy, Addair, Finlay, all that stuff, happens here). At one point, they end up in America (for whatever reason), in Washington, and, of course, Milton Haven.
Caz is still not doing so great, even with Suze’s (and maybe Billy’s) help, and so, after hearing about Dr. Wales from one of his other patients (in other words, one of the gang figuring out that something’s Not Right with the new guy in town and trying to send him Desmond’s way via his clearly worried partner), Suze gets Caz to give the man a call and see about scheduling an appointment.
And so, Caz ends up in Desmond’s office, and decides, what the hell right? Everybody in town already thinks he’s nuts so why not play into it? It’s not like there aren’t any weirdos in town already, like that lighthouse keeper who talks to shadows, or the girl with long hair who keeps staring at him, and getting mad when he stares back.
Caz tells Desmond everything, and I mean everything. That morning, in the canteen. Getting fired. The helipad, and the drill hitting something. Raffs in the bell, Finlay telling him about Gibbo, his brief encounter with the man, or what was left of him. He talks about the Infected, how they seemed to talk like themselves, knew things only they did, like Addair’s kids, or Trots’ lover on the mainland. He talks about all of it, expecting to be laughed out of the office, or sent away to some looney bin with all the other crazy people who rave on about the monsters of their friends, and colorful goop that twisted their vision, and seeing their dead friends in the corners of their eyes years afterwards.
What he didn’t expect, was a look of sympathy and understanding. For his therapist to call someone mid-session, and for that someone to be over in less than 5 minutes, and bring along the Park Ranger that everybody says is a lunatic.
That someone’s name is Rosemary, a scientist, and the Park Ranger is Lucas, a veteran that’s experienced something very, unsettlingly similar back during his time in the war. They ask him a shite load of questions, like, what did these monsters say (nonsense ramblings), what color was the thing that did all of it (every color, really), what did the monsters look like (they looked… I… w-why am I being interrogated? Who are you?! And who the fuck is that creepy purple cunt in the corner!? He’s - it’s - he’s mocking me!).
Eventually, after a lot of not-explaining and promises of more answers, he goes with them to their base of operations (Lucas’ cabin) to discuss the matter further. The burst of confidence Caz had when he’d gone to Desmond’s office that morning has left him, and he doesn’t really want to recount the details of what happened in the rig. Lucas, Rosemary, Desmond, and the seemingly random people they keep calling seem reluctant to talk about whatever the hell they went through as well. Apparently the government is involved somewhere?
By all accounts, their situations seem to be the same, more or less. Apparently, Lucas had been infected by the thing years and years ago, and Desmond had recently been through his own adventure with it. With his limited information, Caz is able to deduce that Rosemary wasn’t infected, but she’s been working around the Shape for years, until a few years ago. The people they’re calling have all had their own encounters with it.
And suddenly, Caz (and maybe Suze and maybe Billy) isn’t alone in this. There’s a whole group of survivors - hell, a whole town, even if they aren’t aware of it, and they know how to deal with it, to an extent. They’re all infected, this whole damn town is infected, and they’re all more or less going about their normal lives, almost unaffected. At least, the majority of people are almost unaffected.
Desmond, Lucas, the lighthouse keeper Allen, the weird girl Virginia, and an angry, lowkey parental man, Max, they’re all working to mitigate the effects of the Shape in the townsfolk. At least, that’s what Caz has gathered from their half-conversations and their very specific questions.
On the flip side, holy shit, Meyer was a lot more widespread than they thought. Not even Rosemary knew about this, and she was the head researcher at one point! And the poor man’s crew, all killed in an experiment gone horribly wrong (or right, if you ask Meyer, probably). Lucas relates to him with the loss of his platoon and the disbelief from those around him, Desmond relates to him with the long, near hopeless fight for his mind.
Eventually Caz goes home, tells Suze (and maybe Billy) everything (her reaction depends on how far into the Caz survives AU this is), and keeps in touch with the gang (reluctantly). He continues to go to therapy, which, despite the new revelations, is actually helping. Slowly, but it’s helping. Suze (and maybe Billy) are ecstatic, because Caz is getting help and making friends (also slowly). Until the Shape comes knocking once more.
Things change a lot here, depending on where I go with this. Is the Shape really connected with Agent Rainbow and vise versa, or are they separate, yet similar things? Is this farther into the Caz survives AU, or is it not? Either way, someone is getting stuck in the CU, and people are gonna get Infected. Caz and the others are going to have to fight the Shape (again), and they’re also going to have to fight Agent Rainbow (again). And people are going to get hurt.
Bonus points if ghost Finlay is here, and can see and interact with Desmond’s Agent Rainbow. Extra bonus points if Caz can also see him, and Desmond can see Finlay (though that’s mostly if we’re going the "Shape and AR are connected" route). Finlay and AR are always at each other’s throats, and it’s funny (though if AR is "good" or not, is up for debate. Really depends on your definition of "good".).
Even MORE bonus points if Fin and Tonia become support animal besties. Tonia would absolutely hate the pupper at first, but eventually warms up to him. In the CU, she’s just complaining to Desmond about Fin, and Desmond is like okay please let me focus on not going insane during my visit here.
Mega post from me, but oh my cheese mold this is fun to think about. Back when SWTD was just something I half-watched Eddie play on yt, I thought about an AU where it’s the ISM crew going through it on the rig, but now that I’m in the SWTD fandom, having it as a crossover is so fun.
I wanna make more fanart of this, oh man I really do. I usually hate putting my blorbos from separate universes in the same space, but like, an exception can be made here for this.

Hi there hihihihi I infected the SWTD oc I made literally yesterday (Spoilers if you haven't seen it)
You guys remember Weber right? Ofc you do I made her yesterday, and now I've infected herr To kinda explain what I got goin on here. She hangs out with Caz from when he wakes up after nearly drowning (watching over him to make sure he doesn't die (that's literally her job) and then sticking with him to be sure he's alright), to after they find Roy. She sticks with Roy after that and upon Roy stating he needs his insulin she goes to get it for him. After or during (I don't remember a lot of the second half of the game) the whole electricity issue and the getting a helicopter crashed into him Caz gets a call from Weber that's like "Heyyy uhhh, I got the stuff on me. Can you grab Roy's insulin? I've ran elsewhere so the area's safe now but don't come to save me I beg of you" and you get to hear her over the phone just goin through the worst. Caz during his little getting roy his insulin session he runs into her and she looks like this
Yea, not a pretty look. Stuck to the wall. Basically just in the same position as O'connor and Roper. Just groaning in pain while Caz does stuff, she doesn't even sort of attack him like O'Connor and Roper do she's just there like "I thought I told you not to come get me-" and Caz gets what he was there for and leaves. Buuut what makes her interesting you see, this is more of a chrysalis than anything. Some time later and the whole rig is basically like, falling apart and Finlay and Brodie are like "Bro we should do something about that. Ay Caz can you go figure out what the hell is doing that" and for plot reasons Caz does and wuh oh! Guess who it is!
It's Weber! She's detatched from the wall and her state's gotten worse and now she's tearing metal off the ship and just, merging with it. Kinda like the infected absorbing more victims but it's just the metal on the rig. Now, unlike the others, who's death just happened to happen (trots and muir getting squished, rennick drowning, addair being set on fire, ect ect). Caz HAS to kill Weber cause if he doesn't she'll destroy the entire rig. I haven't decided how he kills her but I'm thinkin he manages to lure her to a part of the rig that's like dangling over the edge and he manages to get her on the other side of that bit and she basically does that thing when someone saws off the branch they're sitting on in media and shit and she plummets into the ocean and is not seen again. Rip girliepop Bonus: Post-infection her lines bounce between english and german. With her "HOLY SHIT CAZ HELP" lines being in english and her "Gotta go home to see my family!!" lines being in german. Should I write some voice lines for this poor girliepop? I don't speak german but I could give ya'll some more stuff of her if ya want it

Finlay can't start her villain(not really) monologue because Caz is already half way down the rig
she starts making her way to the derrick, “I’m seeing the truth of it now!” etc etc. but she stops abruptly as Caz appears in front of her, scowling. Nobody can’t beat him in a race he’ll just throw himself off the rig and then respawn at the destination..
“I fucking hate you Caz.” Finlay says.
#still wakes the deep#caz swtd#finlay swtd#Hypothetically#if everyone is saved it wouldn’t get to bad between Finlay and Caz#but they still disagree on how to destroy the shape

Part Two Part One/Part Three
The water come in fast, pooling up past his shoulders in seconds he had barely the time to take a breath. It was not for the first time, even today. O’Conner was tired and already had enough to deal with before finding the girl floating inexplicably beside him. Her eyes were wide with panic, her hair glittering coppery in the emergency lighting like the oil mixed in with the water.
They must have only stood suspended underwater and staring a moment before his body moved for him and pushed him desperately to the surface. The girl came up beside him.
“Where’d you come from?” He yelled over the noise.
She tried to splutter some kind of response about a doctor and a ship, that made about as much sense as anything else that happened in the past few hours. He’s head rang trying to keep up and the water was still rising.
“Alright shut your mouth - don’t look at me like that - this is oil mixed with the the water. You don’t want to be swallowing that.” He looked around and saw and opening. He had an idea where it would go, “Alright, I need you to keep calm and follow me. Watch for the light.” He tapped the torch attached to his helmet.
“Okay.”
“Don’t panic, the worst thing to do now is panic,” he said more to himself than anything else. He’d lost all the others, “You just - you just follow me. And mouth shut you hear? “
The girl screwed her eyes closed and took a breath. And another. O’Connor found himself matching his own breathing to hers. When she opened her eyes, she gave a determined nod. They didn’t speak as the water lifted them up toward the ceiling, until they finally could reach the grate. Taking a last gulp of air they dived down.
O’Conner knew the place well enough, but it had become a maze of twisted beams and torn cables. He pulled himself along, lungs burning and prayed they were close to the far end. A sharp tug at his boot nearly knocked the last bit of air out of him. As he turned, the light of his lamp made her wince, but she pointed upward and started swimming.
Eyes wide and grateful he saw the pocket of air she was moving toward and followed suit.
“Sorry,” she coughed as they broke the surface. He shook his head and taking a second to catch his breath. As he glanced at a marker along a beam, that ought to have been a good deal higher above them than it was, and swallowed hard.
“No,” he said finally, “No, it was a good spot, we were nowhere near.”
The water here was till coming up slowly and the poor girl is shaking badly. He didn’t have the time to wonder at the clothes. She was no nurse that’s for certain. He doubted he’d let his own daughter go out in clothes like those. Not that it mattered.
“Ready to go again?”
She nodded.
The next stretch under water felt shorter, now that he had his bearings. The murky water was also somewhat illuminated by the emergency lights though that gave him little comefort. There where half a dozen measures that ought to be take to ensure no stray spark would fry them in the water, but he at this point he doubted that anyone had even consulted regulations while building this rust bucket.
They reached the platform by the hatch door to LEG A, and pulled themselves onto it coughing up water and shaking. But alive. He tried not to ignore the body floating just out of reach on the far wall. It would do no good to linger. It’s Bruce though isn’t it? It did no good, he knew, they were all gone. The waves made it bump gently against the cold metal. It was, Bruce, must of got caught under the pontoons during a surge, got washed up here later.
“Well, that was something,” the girl’s voice echoed as she got unsteadily to her feet. She made a paltry attempt to wring the water out of her hair.
“Impressive Miss…”
“Amy, Amelia Pond,” she paused a moment to smile at him. There was an ease to it that seemed off in the dire situation that were in.
“Pretty name,” he nodded warily, “Dònal O’Connor, and so where did you come from?”
“I was on a… a ship but it broke and I got thrown here,” she gave a stiff laugh and added in the bemused silence, “It’s easier if I just show you, how’d we get out of here… and where is here exactly?”
“Right…” He can’t fathom why she’d lie to him, though equally he can’t fathom a way she ended down here anyway. “Welcome to the oil rig, Beira Delta, its a rusty pile of shit on the best of days but you managed to catch us on an particularly awful one.”
“That’s okay, believe or not I’ve been in worse,” she hugged her arms across her chest, though she did not seemed afraid. She was still shivering like mad. He pulled his jacket off.
“What - no, it’s okay!”
“Don’t fuss,” he muttered, pulling it over her shoulders.
“You’ll freeze in that vest.”
“And you, decided to go swimming with your bare legs in the North Sea,” he chided.
“We were supposed to be going to an Elvis concert,” she grumbled as she tugged it tighter. It was soaked through but better then nothing.
“Well your on the wrong side of the Atlantic.” He ground his teeth together to stop them chattering. The fact was he could not go on more than a couple of minutes like this but neither could she.
“No kidding,” Her eyes trailed to the dark water. To the… body still beating slowly against the wall. She opened her mouth to ask but he couldn’t bear the thought
“No,” he snapped, probably to harshly
“He was a friend of yours?” She replied gentle but firm.
“Aye, Bruce - “ his voice trailed off.
“I dont think he’d want you to freeze to death.”
He leaned against the side of the door and said nothing. She waded in to get it. Pulled him gently up onto the platform. He couldn’t look at the face instead watching the stranger intently. Awfully calm to be handling a corpse, especially as young as she was.
“He was taking a the Christmas stint for Reacher.” He almost didn’t register that he’d spoken aloud until she glanced up.
“Yeah?” She rose slowly and handed him the coat.
“Reacher’s lil’ boy was born, he wanted to be there for his first Christmas. Bruce swapped leave with him.”
He carried on rambling as he shrugged it on. They needed to go. The longer they stayed the more the danger but he couldn’t do up the damned buttons. A sound, sort of like music but not quite, filled his head and made his vision fuzzy. No matter how he shook himself he couldn’t focus. The girl came up and started to do them for him.
“He was a good lad.”
“I’m sure. Its not your fault,” she added and he jumped. He had not been talking to her at all. Amy. That was her name, Amy Pond. He must hit his head somewhere… was seeing things. This was not the time.
“They were my responsibility.”
“It’s not your fault.” The words sounded well practised on her lips and she nodded to herself, “What happened?”
Her brows furrowed and she glanced around quite suddenly as though looking for something in the gloom. O’Conner followed her eyes but saw nothing.
“We hit something, I don’t know exactly what, Brodie said it was some sort of creature but I can think of what it could be. People on the radio… I dunno I’ve mostly been trying to keep this damn thing afloat without drowning,” Saying it all out loud helped him clear his mind a little, “Come on, I’ve got to engage the cables and then we can see about get you topside.”
He turned the hatch door. A smell like a fishmongers made them both gag and his vision swam with all sorts of colours. Amy grabbed hold of his shoulder.
“Did you hear that?” she asked sounding nervous for the first time.
“I don’t hear anything,” he lied. All he heard was ghosts and a strange melodic ringing in his ears. He gripped tight to the door and saw at the far end of the room… It was impossible, he scrubbed his hands over his eyes but there she was sitting in her bottle blue chair looking out over the hospital garden. As beautiful as the day he’d lost her.
“Long day?” she asked, her voice both teasing and warm and so familiar.
“Rory!” Amy’s cry snapped him awake.
He turned to see her panic and look back. The wall was alive with some sort of fleshy matter. It bubbled and stretched it to great strands that attached themselves to the ceiling. They pulsed with iridescence, the rhythmic sound making his head spin. Amy bounded forward and he reached for her with a cry
“Watch out!“
He dragged her back as tendrils began erupting out of the mass. They’d likely have been speared if they’d waited a second more but as it was they fell back into the flooded chamber.
“What the - What the hell!”
She kicked the door closed as fast as it’s heavy and rusty hinges would allow. He slammed it the rest of the way and turned the handle.
“What was that?”
O’Connor shook his head. He had no idea, but it was between them and their only way out

SWTD Theory
Still Wakes the Deep has been a huge brainworm for me the past few weeks, so I wanted to make a post with one of my takes. Someone’s probably thought of this already, but I can’t find anything about it, so here I go.
I’m gonna take this time to shout out a little sub theory of mine that plays a bit of a part in my main point.
For a little background, in populations of organisms, there are limiting factors on their growth and spread. Think of it as a series of funnels of different sizes: the rate of liquid that can flow through is going to be determined by the narrowest funnel. For example. if there’s a population that has ample food, space, and whatever else it needs, but has a restricted access to water, that water is going to limit how large that population could grow.
Before the Shape was dug up by the drill, it was probably dormant in the sea bed, doing its best to survive, the same as any other organism. Down where it was dark, wet, and cold, I think it had one main limiting factor: oxygen.
I don’t think the Shape can efficiently exchange gas underwater. Most of the untouched bodies Caz sees are only underwater, where an organism that thrives in air would struggle to access. Once it gets dug up and brought to air with plenty of organic matter to consume and grow with, its population explodes. When a limiting factor is removed, there’s nothing holding the population back any more until they hit a new limit. The Shape’s old limiting factor was removed, and it would only stop reproducing by running out of space to grow on the rig, running out of organic matter to use, or being killed (like, say, in a giant fiery explosion).
(I could go on and on about how the Shape potentially works, please feel free to ask me about it)
Now, I’ll get to my main theory:
I think Caz was dead the whole time.
Now, I don’t mean that in a “the whole game is in his head, none of it was real” way; I mean it in a “this man got Ethan Winters’ed” way.
So, I started to do a little research into how tall oil rigs are to know how far Caz would have fallen off the helipad. I quickly learned there are many types of oil rigs and not every oil rig of the same type is the same size. I’m studying marine biology, not petroleum engineering like my brother, so I got tired of trying to guesstimate how tall the Bierra D’s helipad would be and attacked the problem with some simple math.
Watching a video, I saw he fell for between 4-5 seconds; the acceleration due to gravity is 9.8m/s^2. Plugging that in a calculator while not accounting for air resistance to solve for distance gets me ~80-120m, depending on if I used the 4 or 5 second count, so I’ll guess around 100m. I’ve found many conflicting sources on what the tallest heights you can safely fall into water are, but I can safely tell you that 100m is much higher than any of them.
Now, maybe the devs weren’t going with the mathematical exact timing it would take for a guy to fall off an oil rig, and didn’t mean for it to be implied that he fell from THAT high. Still, we can agree he fell from very high up, high enough to have likely ended in injury. Maybe he’d just fall on and break a leg? Maybe an arm or some ribs?
After falling off the rig, the last frame before Caz blacks out shows the water at the top of the screen, meaning he hits the water head-first. He may be wearing a hard hat (that somehow stays on his head through the whole ordeal since he clips his flashlight to it), but he still should have cracked his skull open or broken his neck.
When they pull him out of the water, he’s cold and not breathing, which wouldn’t be unusual for a drowning victim in the North Sea in the dead of winter, but it would usually be a death sentence. They never explain how they dragged Caz out of the water, but it would presumably have taken a long time to get him out, and time is key when dealing with someone who isn’t breathing. The fact that he’s able to cough up water and start breathing on his own is a miracle, since it doesn’t sound like Brodie or Douglas do CPR when they bring him inside.
So, fall damage, head and/or spine injury, drowning, and hypothermia. By several different factors, Caz should be a very, very dead man. So why isn’t he?
My theory is that, somehow, somewhy, the infection from The Shape healed and brought him back to life. We know for a fact it has amazing generative properties, basically able to double, triple, quadruple the amount of tissue and organic matter in the crew’s bodies with no regard for conservation of mass, so what’s just a little regeneration of damaged tissues in a single body? Once Caz’s body gets someplace with better conditions suited to life (inside where it’s warm and there’s air), it just jumpstarts his body functions. The Shape’s presumably been dormant in the seafloor for a long time, so it could be able to go dormant and kinda “come back to life” as conditions change, similar to a tardigrade, and potentially pass this ability onto its hosts.
And Caz mentions how his head hurts a lot, especially when he gets close to the Shape.
Now, this might seem like baseless conjecture, and y’all might say “That’s a good headcanon, but there’s no evidence that The Shape could bring people back to life!” to which I would say “Oh, but there might be!"
After the helicopter on the starboard side, we get a call from Bruce, who is actively drowning. Through his gasps, he tells us that O’Connor hurt his leg and couldn’t swim, presumably drowning. And guess who we see still kicking as we’re passing through the pontoon? My thought is that O’Connor couldn’t swim, drowned, and drifted to the bottom, landing on a part of the shape. Once Caz and Brodie start working in the legs and they drain, it exposes him to air and allows the shape to start growing again, assimilating him and bringing him back to life.
Obviously, he’s not doing as well as Caz is. My thought was that, if Caz died as he was infected, the infection would’ve had to put a lot of its energy into bringing him back, not leaving much for itself to begin assimilating him into the Shape. Since O’Connor was in direct contact with the Shape, it could hook him up to its network to help supplement that loss. Caz, meanwhile, stays as far away from the stuff as he can and doesn’t even get anything to eat all day; guy's running on empty. He has small things where the Shape affects him, like the colors at the edge of his vision, but most of his hallucinations only happen after the Shape attacks him through O’Connor. Before, I’m pretty sure the largest incident (other than when he’s blacked out) is when we can barely hear Suze’s voice over the speakers when moving through the pontoon. It’s really only after getting attacked that he starts to hear her when he’s awake, near the Shape, or over phone calls. He only hears her clearly over the speakers in administration after he runs into the shape many times when he gets swept away in the flooding.
With my main evidence out of the way, I’ll also mention that Caz sees the “light at the end of the tunnel” from the end of the game in the oil flashes when he blacks out.
But hey, that’s just a theory.
A GAME TH- I have received a cease and desist.
Man, this became a long read. Thanks for getting this far, and I hope you enjoyed!

TRIGGER WARNING. CONTAINS DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AND BULLYING.
Sheesh. You know I’m in a way when I’m making horror/sad art and not my usual goofy shit. Stressed tf out about my move and had to vent with an art program and my fave SWTD characters.
So, I’ve been seeing lots of sympathy for Addair, lately. I wanted to hitch a ride on the bandwagon. Rennick is top on the list for me, y’all already knew that, but Addair really perplexes me. There’s a part of me that really likes him and his gruff English self, then the part of him being a fascist just keeps me at a wide berth. BUT. That doesn’t mean I don’t like him. I love characters made to be hated because they’re interesting. They’re cool to learn more of. Especially dream up your own headcanons to try and explain why they are so hateful. And even more exciting, the chance for them to redeem themselves. Sadly, Addair and Rennick didn’t get that in the game, but that won’t stop us from trying.
HEADCANON TIIIME
I saw a headcanon a little while ago (please if you’re the one who did it, let me know and I’ll credit you, I’m just too lazy to scour for it rn) that Rennick was bullied as a kid, and for some twisted reason, I really liked it. Would explain why he feels this need to have control. Or why he has such a power high. Because he didn’t have any control when he was young. With Addair, an abusive household growing up was my own headcanon. Perhaps he was cemented in these bigoted beliefs because of his father. These demons could be why these two were like the most violent and aggressive infected. The Shape just utilizes all those dark memories to its advantage. Making them the very rage they repressed when they were young.
Was listening to music while drawing this and Still Counting from Volbeat captures these guys perfectly to me, idk why.

I keep forgetting to sign my art. Hey, if you coming to steal, plz show mercy n don’t, ig.

Oooh, Still Wakes the Deep! Not sure what specifically. My personal faves include Muir, Gibbo, etc. Generally though, drawing people acting plain silly usually helps me when I’m not sure of what to draw. Good luck!

Do you happen to have any headcannons regarding O'Connor and his friends? They live rent free in my head right now
Gotta admit, i do really hope they release maybe like a dlc or a short part two game that just focuses on the crew and their lives, because O'Connor and Gibbo, despite having only a few lines actually seem like they have lots of cool lore! Especially Gibbo (him talking about beasts, flashing lights etc)
Anyways! Heres a few headcanons of Gibbo, O'Connor, Trots, Finlay and Caz! **SPOILERS!!**
O'Connor
- i think lots of people think Mary is O'Connors wife, but I actually think hes talking about his daughter! Someone on the SWTD reddit said the ones who turn into The Shape are sort of traumatized or broken in some way, and the shape seems to lure/sedate its victims by making it think someone they care about is talking to them, so my mind immediately goes to O'Connor had a wife who either died or left and Mary is all he has. Poor guy :(
- I feel like he would be the type to go up to Trots when they first meet and ask if he can "see how blind" Trots is by trying on his glasses lol (he means well though!!)
- Poor man has night terrors like nobodies business. I like to think hes had night terrors the week leading up to what happens in the game about The Shape, but in very vague ways. Has probably told Trots or Gibbo about them as a joke.
Gibbo
- Again, a lot of people on reddit speculate that people who are traumatized or broken, I think his father left him or maybe just isnt a very great guy, since he tells Caz to tell his mom he'll be home soon, and since his ramblings sometimes sound like something an angry/neglectful father would say to a kid. I think Gibbo def gives off mamas boy vibes
- BIG. OLE. SOFTIE!!!! Definitely is the one who hung up all the christmas decor, and helped Dobbie with decorating their shared cabin.
- Definitely has seen some weird shit that Rennick has told him to stuff down, the "flashing lights" in the ocean, creatures that come up that he chalks up to being weird sea creatures so he can sleep peacefully at night
- I feel like in a weird way, he would survive the explosion and make his way to the main land, maybe to see his mom again or to try an find help
Trots
- I personally fucking adore Trots, he feels like the dad friend of the crew, the type that goes up to the crew when Rennick is up their asses and tells them to stand up for what they think is right.
- Always making passive aggressive comments around Rennick, Caz and Roy are always having to break the two up when they get into heavily heated arguements
- In his infected form, i think it shows a lot about the stresses he has as a union person and as a person in general. He feels like hes always having to clean up peoples messes, make sure things are working the way he should be, I feel like he puts on a composed face infront of everybody but is heavily stressed by his duties to keep everyone from getting killed
- I think he likes melancholy music :] soft and sad tunes that you can take a nap to while it rains outside
Finlay
- Can throw back shots like nobodies business, Caz and Muir are constantly doing drinking games with her and she always wins (though the hangover afterwards for her is more of a lose than anything)
- Constantly messing with Addair by getting into political battles and not giving him any satisfaction in seeing her get angry or anything, will sometimes just throw in random hyper-exaggerated takes to see him get mad
- As we seen from the paper, an absolute fucking wizard at darts, like, to the point where if shes drunk as all hell shes still able to hit multiple middles in a row
- Has nightmares too, but about her son. I cant imagine how hard it was for her to make it past the Shape hearing her son singing and calling out to her :((
- I feel like shes also pretty close with Roy, goes out for smoke breaks with him and stuff like that
Caz
- Double jointed. Maybe im just projecting onto him but the way his legs hurt from like THE SMALLEST OF FALLS is some double jointed problems shit. That being said, he totally does that bending-finger-back party trick for the crew, Trots tries to warn him against doing it but the look of disgust and suprise on the crews face will always make him do it again lol
- Was accidentally the first person to find out about Muir and Innes's relationship. He caught them kissing in the mud room, ever since then hes tried to be like,,,, overly accepting to the point where every time Innes and Muir are walking together he gives them a thumbs up like a dork
- Keeps his hair long despite Rennick and Addairs comments because Suize likes it that way (you cannot tell me Caz doesnt like getting his hair pulled lmao he is WHIPPED for that lady)
- I like to think his afterlife is him haunting his house, i know that may sound shitty but i want that man to be able to watch his weans grow up :(((
#trots swtd#O'Connor swtd#caz mcleary#blondie rambles#finlay swtd#gibbo swtd#headcanons#still wakes the deep#send me asks!#also again gimme headcanons and i mighy draw themmmm :]

~ SWTD: Still Here AU Part 3 ~
He's Still in There: Part 1:
Yes, this is two-parter. I tried to make it into one singular chapter, but with more characters being introduced and everyone's timeline starting to connect, it seemed to drag. I personally can't stand long chapters due to my own style of reading, so I had to break this up.
TW: Body Horror and blood.
Part 4:
A stinging in Muir's left eye quickly turned to pain. He groaned through gritted teeth, and his nails dug into his skin around the socket. It was unbearable and impossible for Innes, Sunil, Scooby, McLurg and Dobbie to ignore. The men watched Muir fall to his knees. He tried to stand but fell again; landing in a puddle.
The pain spread across his body. His arms and legs were heavy. His head felt like it was going to explode. His heart was racing, and every vein began to pop through the skin. Muir hunched over and pulled himself inwards as his body became tighter. None of the men could see what was happening, but they knew someone was wrong. No one could bring themselves to touch him, especially when they saw his hair begin to fall out under his hard-hat.
On instinct, Innes dialed for help. You had to when someone was hurt. But Davros, the crew's doctor, didn't answer. Like Muir, his heart was racing and his body tightened. When Caz answered by the 3rd attempt, it was a huge relief, but the panic and anxiety still ran through his head. Innes was known to be a man who never lost his composure, even in a high-stress work environment such as The Beria. But that's because he knew what he was doing. This entire situation was unknown to the man, and that terrified him.
'Who's that?'
'It's Caz, Innes. I-'
'Caz. Thank Christ. I-I need your help. I dunno what to do-' The echoing noise of bones cracking and yells from the others made Innes' stomach drop. His blood ran cold. He looked over his shoulder and his face turned pale. 'S-Somethings happening to him. He's...'
Muir's entire body blew open. Blood poured into the puddle. His ribs burst out of his side, twisting like tree branches. The muscles consumed his body. His left eye clouded and sunk to his nostrile as more eyes clumped together grew as a replacement. The lower half raised itself upwards. Strange legs, similar to a spider-crab began to grow, lifting the still turning Muir off the ground.
'OH NO!'
Sunil grabbed and yanked Innes away as a tendril smashed the phone, cutting off all connections. The others had already ran for the nearest storage container and were waiting with baited breath. Except for Scooby, who had long since vanished.
'Come on,' Sunil growled. He tugged on Innes' sleeve to have him pick up the pace. He knew he was faster than this. That's because Innes was transfixed on Muir, who had noticed him running away. He reached out with his right arm, only for it to dissolve and fall off. In its place grew a fleshy mass shaped after a crab claw.
'Innes. Where yer going?'
The pair made it inside and McLurg began to push the door shut.
'INNES!'
SLAM
The minutes passed by. A fog set in over the deck. Rennick's voice crackled over the speakers.
'All personnel, this is an evacuation order. In case I wasn't clear enough the first time, that means; get to the helipad NOW. It's your responsibility to get there, and we will be leaving with or without you. So move it.'
Innes, Sunil, McLurg and Dobbie sat against the cold metal of a storage container, all too scared to breathe. Muir's howling and loud footsteps made it easy to know where he was, but that didn't ease the tension. Dobbie held his legs close to his chest. Any sound from Muir caused him to flinch.
McLurg broke the silence with a whisper. 'What happened to Scooby?'
'He took off when Muir -' Sunil couldn't find the words. How could he? How could he explain what just happened? 'When he - I think when Muir's hair began to fall out.'
'So the brat abandoned us?'
'Give him some peace, Lurg. He's probably the smartest one here.'
'But he's not here, Sunil. We're trapped.'
'And hopefully he got away to find help.'
Their voices were beginning to rise.
'What help?! Who's going to help us?!'
A bang from either falling metal or Muir caused the men to go quiet. All held their breath and waited.
'You're all cruel bastards, ya' ken that?'
This entire time, Innes never spoke a word. The container had a small gash from Muir's attempt to break in, becoming a makeshift window. He never looked away. He watched as Muir's body continued to mutate. His hair fell out yet his beard remained, teeth exposed on the left-side by bursting through the skin, the flesh gripped his hard-hat, the other arm dissolved and was replaced with a claw, and finally his dried out innards dangled inches above the ground. Innes didn't know if he should cry or be sick, but he was slowly coming to the conclusion that there was nothing he could do. He looked away and began to accept defeat.
'Innes...? Where's Innes? Just need help, eh?'
Innes let out a shaky breath and his shoulders deflated. Muir was calling for him. Was he still in there? If he was, then Innes really was a cruel bastard. Leaving someone he was supposed to be looking after to suffer alone. He didn't want that. The decision was made, even if it meant risking his own life.
'Right, lads. I'm going to talk to him.' There was a pause. Sunil, McLurg, and Dobbie stared at Innes as if he was the one who grew an extra set of eyes.
'Excuse me?' McLurg asked with a cracked voice.
'I'm going to talk to him,' Innes repeated. 'You three stay here and when I have his attention, get to the crew lift.'
'H-he'll kill you,' Dobbie stuttered.
'We don't know that, Dobs. Just get to the crew lift.'
'I'm all alone...'
Innes didn't wait for someone to hold him back. He scuttled out of the container and moved through the fog. It was thick, but Muir's silhouette was easy to spot. He watched Muir aimlessly clamber over containers and metal pipes they unloaded a few hours ago. He was clumsy in his movement, the newly transformed body was trying to find balance, even with the support of the tendrils.
'No one wants to help me...'
Whilst Innes was observing his friend's mutation, he did pick up on something. Muir knew they were in the container. McLurg literally slammed shut in his face, yet he was still looking for them. Was this a trick? Had he forgotten? Was Muir confused? He hoped it was the latter.
Innes said a small prayer, followed by a 'fuck,' then stepped into the fog.

Hey Mark, how would you draw infected Gibbo?
Hi Fable!
I never actually thought of how my infected Gibbo design looked, well not as much as thought I would at least. With the help of Zeon's wonderful swtd screenshots, its very clear that he's just a blob. To me he looks sorta slug shaped? I'm gonna have to look back at those pictures because my memory is foggy dhhfjfh
With procreate crashing at least a hundred times, I had no choice but to deal with two designs. One that adopts the blob and eyes design, and the other that gives him a cute little squished face! One day I will definitely draw his infected design, maybe when I'm drawing dream sequences in my au? We'll see soon!
Blob and eyes design
Face added, look at him!

SWTD - The Shape
Ough,,, the shape. Been having thoughts on this entity. Its very interesting to me. to think about it.
The Shape isn't malicious. Right? Its not sentient or acting out of emotion. It's not doing anything but instinct. It seems evil, it's easy to look at it as a malicious entity, the crew do this. But that's because its a whole different perspective, different frame of mind. You know when you squash a bug, more often than not, people tend not to care. No one' getting broken up about it.
That's the shape. The crew is bugs, and the shape is a person. We keep walking, keep going, no matter what bugs we squash, and so will the shape. it will keep doing what it needed to survive, the same way we do. It is a parasitic relationship, like that of a braconid wasp and a hornworm caterpillar. Maybe it looks cruel, but that is us looking at it through our own frame of reference.
The shape really is just an animal. Its just instincts. Its just nature. and the crew is just a horribly unlucky group of people who ended up in the "host" end of the parasitic relationship this time.
In the same way the shape is an animal, so are the infected. They are the hosts, furthering the survival of the shape, or at least, that's what it's trying to make them do. In the same way the shape is doing what's instinctual, in the end, so are the infected. But its different. They were humans, with their own perspectives and emotions and things, and they retain that. The shape has nowhere to accommodate their emotions. It does not think like they do, and neither the shape or the human's perspective can be forced onto the other. so the emotions remain. they fester. the become the instincts. The anger and the fear and the sadness. the infected, to me, are lead by their emotions as if their emotions are instinct. this is why they attack and kill, rather than merely trying to spread the shape around. They are angry, so they attack. they get violent and aggressive. they are scared so they lash out. they attack. they back themselves into corners, they snarl and bite like cornered animals and chew off their own legs in an attempt to ease the pain and terror. to survive. they are sad so they call for help. they sob. they chase people because they just need help. they just need some comfort. they just need to be held and told its alright because they're fucking terrified and sad and they just want help.
They know, all of them, who they love and trust and who is supposed to help. In the same way they know who they hate, which makes them likely to zero in on that poor person, they know who they love, too. the devotion and the love and the trust. it is warped, as are their physical bodies, but it persists. that´s why trots talks to a man who isn´t there. thats why addair reminds himself to call his kids. thats why raffs relentlessly pursues brodie. thats why caz hears and sees suze. its why Muir never absorbs innes. it is the relationships. the infected remember. they aren´t very aware, but they know who they love and they know who love them.
and they aren´t aware enough to know what they would do if they found them., their loved ones. like innes and muir. except they are a bit different. because muir does get innes, but he loves the man so much that he just holds him. holds him in his arms, even as innes dies and muir is crushed. maybe he was going to absorb him, but as it stands, the presence of innes allowed him to hold off. just long enough for innes to remain intact when their bodies are found. Raff's is a different story, he loves and trusts and needs Brodie, so when he sees him, he gets tunnel vision. He chases Brodie relentlessly, dive bell and all, and he doesn't realize that getting to Brodie means he will kill him, all he knows is that he just wants help and comfort. and Brodie is supposed to give him that.
In the end, the shape is an animal. Its got a different perspective, different worldview, than us. Its not evil, and neither are the infected. Its simply an animal. and its so, so very interesting to me. I love this game so much...
