Here is my first drabble to celebrate 600 followers on Tumblr!

And it's my first foray into a new fandom!

Thank you @mystical-blaise for being an amazing friend and a such a talented writer!

Two pixies, a brownie, an imp, and a sprite in a monkey’s body, all in a single home.

It would probably be the last place Scorpion would choose to be, if it were just him. In a previous life - where he wasn’t inextricably connected to a small band of rebels who had somehow managed to save Eastern Europe from the lunacy of Istvan Markos - he wouldn’t have stepped foot near this place. The chaos. The warmth. The family.

And yet he’d gone. The dinners they shared with their friends, both old and new, had become a welcome respite from the arduous task of rebuilding and the continued pursuit of their remaining foes. But this dinner was particularly special, as they shared it with the Seelie Queen, the Unseelie King, and their own band of misfits. Druids, demons, Dark Dwellers, a Dae. Humans and hybrids, shifters and sirens. Wanderers, experiments, anything you could possibly think of. It was a good thing Killian was important enough to have a fucking palace.

Scorpion never would have imagined himself saying that the best part of the night was when the little monkey-sprite, Sprig, came barreling down the banquet table - the flatware and dishes clanking and clattering as he sprinted over them - wearing what appeared to be a pair of women’s underwear as a cape.

Any sight of Hanna’s expression was hidden by golden waves as she seemed to stare after the creature, which was clearly in the throes of a sugar rush. She was frozen, watching the furball until he was out of sight, though he could be heard screeching in the kitchen as the giant male known as Ryker stomped after him, mumbling a string of obscenities none-too-quietly.

“You’re awfully grumpy for someone who I know for a fact got their pickle tickled less than three hours ago,” the tiny voice echoed, somehow louder than the banging of cabinet drawers and pots and pans. Scorpion bit back a snort.

But the blonde at his side threw her head back and laughed, deep and genuine, and his heart stopped at the sound. It was beautiful and joyful and free, and he’d never seen her like that. Not ever. Because she’d been through far too much shit and was still wading through it every fucking day. But this… she may as well have been an angel, because this had to be heaven, though gods knew how he’d made it.

Her shoulders shook, tears forming in clear blue eyes that glimmered with amusement, She wiped at her flushed face but she couldn’t stop, giggles pouring from her grin like a waterfall. Through it all, all Scorpion could do was stare with wide eyes. Until she finally loosed a long, calming breath and took his hand under the table as she turned to him.

“I haven’t laughed like this in… a long time,” she said with a bright smile. The banquet hall - the small army of people around the long, elegant table setting - fell away, and it was only the two of them. He pulled her knuckles to his lips, and his free hand cupped her cheek.

“I’ve…” Scorpion swallowed, the words lodging in his throat. “I’ve never seen you smile like this… laugh like this. I’ve never seen or heard anything so… beautiful.” Her azure gaze bore into him as her cheeks grew pink from his admission. He hooked a silken tendril of spun sunlight over her ear and returned his palm to her face. “I love it. I love you.” Pulling her toward him he lifted his chin, brushing his lips over her brow.

And he knew - right then and there - that there was nothing in the world he wouldn’t do to hear her laugh like that again.

Loki joins the team and convinces her to come talk to the team and consider joining before Shield takes more drastic measures. Loki looked impressed. No wonder she could truename so much stronger than the other fae. “Are you the only one with that power?” he asked. He was always so curious and that didn’t change now.

Sig nodded. “I am, which makes it more dangerous when I truename things and when oaths are sworn in my presence,”

“Why is that?”

She paused and considered how to best explain that. “Well, I can identify anyone and anything’s truename, which is dangerous enough, since that gives me at least some power over that being, as you saw me do to Jareth,” Loki was nodding along, so she continued. “The other thing very, very few people know I can do and it takes a lot of power to do so, but I can change something’s true name, change their nature entirely,” she told him softly, sharing one of her secrets with him. No one outside of Underhill knew she could do that and she wanted to keep it that way.

Loki’s brows furrowed in confusion and disbelief. “Change their nature? That shouldn’t be possible,” he protested.

“And yet, I can,” she told him with a shrug. “I’ve only done it a couple of times, and it’s not something to be done lightly, especially since it takes a lot of power to do, but I can,”

“That is quite impressive,” Loki commented and thought it over before he found his next question. “What natures have you changed?” he asked gently, feeling that it might not be an easy story.

She sighed before she started, but she had agreed to answer questions, and she wouldn’t hide her past from him. “Once by accident when I was a child, I changed the nature of one of the hunt hounds so it would be my friend instead of the savage hunter it was being trained to be. I didn’t understand what it was I’d done at the time,” she explained. Loki nodded. Accidental magic among children was common and understood. She hesitated before she continued. “The other time, I’m not proud of…,” she told him softly, letting him know how difficult this story would be to tell.

“Tell me when you’re ready, darling. I won’t force you into anything,” he reassured her quickly, making sure she knew that he wouldn’t force or pressure her to tell him things that she wasn’t ready to. He was here to support her, not pressure her.

She sighed, but pressed on. “It was when I was being evaluated for my place in the court when I came of age. One of the gray ladies had an evening with one of the lords of the unseelie court and her child wasn’t up to seelie perfection. She claimed she had been unable to see through his illusion, but that didn’t change that the child was born covered in feathers. I was told to change the child’s nature to fit the standards of the seelie court or she would be killed for her imperfection,” she told Loki, admitting what she’d done with sorrow in her tone. She hadn’t wanted to change her nature, but there had been no choice.

“What happened?” he pressed gently.

“I gave the child a new truename,” she told him simply. She’d changed her to be seelie perfect as required. It had been the only way to save her life. “The last time I saw her, she was a toddler with bright gold hair and eyes,” she told him, then sighed. “Her mother catches her staring longingly at the sky though and I know I took it from that girl. She will never fly, because of my meddling,” she told him softly, sorrow haunting her eyes at what she had done, though it was awhile ago.

“I’m sorry, love,” Loki told her gently, pulling her into his arms.

Sig let him, accepting the comfort he offered. “As I said, I’m not proud of it, but it was a choice between changing her nature or letting her be killed. I made the only choice I could,” she said with a hitch in her voice. It had been a difficult decision at best and she knew she cost the girl her wings and stripped the sky from her.

“I understand, darling,” she heard his own haunted past in his words. “Some choices are not easy but they must be made,” he told her gently.

She nodded, glad that he understood, though she wouldn’t press him for the details on how. He would tell her when he was ready. “The oath thing can have some interesting results depending on my mood. I’ve had to witness thousands of weddings since coming into my dominion. Needless to say couples who vow to remain faithful in my presence, will remain faithful,” she told him with a smirk and mischief in her eyes. The fae weren’t known for their fidelity.

“That’s amazing,” Loki told her, sounding truly impressed.

She nodded. “But it takes a touch of power and me actually feeling like enforcing the oaths, so normal everyday promises are usually safe in my presence. Usually,”

“So I should be careful what oaths I make in her presence?” he teased.

“You’re safe. I like you too much. The moron who cheated on his girlfriend and swore to eat a million beetles to prove himself to her should have been more careful who was in the room when he made that oath…” she laughed at the old memory.

Loki’s eyebrows shot up in shock. “Oh wow. Note to self: never piss off Sigyn,” he teased, laughing at the poor fool’s misfortune.

She giggled. “You’re just now figuring that out?” she asked him just as teasingly.

“No, but that really brings it to the forefront. You can be terrifying when you want to be,” he was teasing, but also shocked and awed that she’d done that to someone.

“It’s not my fault he swore to eat a million beetles!” she protested indignantly.

Loki laughed. “Did you stay and watch him follow through?” He asked, genuinely curious as to what had become of the man who had vexed Sig.

She laughed. “That was a hundred years ago. I think he’s still working on it. He was halfway through last I heard,”

“Wow. And the girl? Has she stuck around?”

“Hell no. She was never going to forgive him anyway,” she said with a shrug. He’d been moronic to think she would.

“What an idiot. And now he’s stuck eating beetles for a few centuries,” Loki mused.

She laughed. “So he is. Maybe he’ll learn not to cheat again when another girl deigns to allow him to court her,”

“If that ever happens. I’m sure rumors have spread about his infidelity,”

“They have. He keeps having to explain why he’s eating beetles, and the fae can’t lie,” she reminded him. Sig was among the exceptions to that rule and she couldn’t lie well at all. “The court also learned to watch who was in the room before making rash promises. I may have enforced some just because they sounded like fun…” she added with a hint of mischief in her voice.

He grinned childishly. He loved mischief after all. It was in his nature. “Tell me about them? I love a little mischief,”

“A young lordling promised to profess his love for his lady in front of the entire court. He had no intention of actually doing so and was just saying the words as romantic fluff,” she giggled at the memory. “The poetry he read her was awful and the queen was livid at being interrupted by a lordling demanding he be allowed to recite poetry for his lady,” she told him as she laughed over it.

Loki joined in her laughter. “He must have been so embarrassed,”

“So very, very embarrassed,” she agreed. “And then he was scolded by the queen for making such a rash promise in the first place,”

“Especially with you present,”

She nodded, then smirked when she thought of something. “You’re not going to warn the warrior boys about that skill of mine, are you?” she teased.

“Not a chance,” he replied with a smirk of his own.

She giggled. “Wonder what stupid thing Fandral’s going to say,” she paused. “Or what stupid thing you’re going to goad him into saying,” she corrected herself quickly.

Loki chuckled. “It could be anything. That man is the definition of the word imbecile,”

She paused in her laughter. “Hopefully it’s not something Mama Frigga will be too upset with me for enforcing,” no one wanted to upset Mama Frigga.

“Don’t worry, love. I wouldn’t do anything to get you in trouble with Mother,”

“No, but Fandral might. I think he’s offended I’m not swooning over him like the feather brained noble ladies,” she made a face, letting him know exactly what she thought of that behavior. She wasn’t one to swoon and she liked to believe that she wasn’t one of the feather brained noble ladies who Loki so despised.

“I would agree. Though the noble ladies love the attention,”

She rolled her eyes. “He’s annoying and as featherbrained as the rest of them. Not my type,” she made another face to solidify that point.

“I agree. I can barely stand being in his presence for a long period of time without wanting to smite him where he stands,” Loki grumbled. He hated Thor’s moronic friends. With the exception of Sif.

“Or drug him with fairy wine?” she teased with a grin.

He chuckled. “Or that,”

“Speaking of, did you want to try it?” she asked as she summoned the bottle. The magic in the wine would help her recover. It wouldn’t help much, but any little bit was helpful, especially with how worried Loki was.

Loki looked interested. He was curious about everything, including the magic wine. “Sure,” he agreed.

Sig nodded and looked him over, gauging him and his magic before carefully pouring out a small glass. She handed the glass over to him and poured a much larger wine glass for herself. The wine wouldn’t hurt her and if Loki was careful, it wouldn’t hurt him. He took a small sip and she saw in his eyes that it was the sweetest, most delicious wine he’d ever tasted. On top of that it was mixed with magic, making it even better. Loki hmmed in pleasure over it. “That is exquisite,” he purred

She nodded and sipped on her own wine. “That it is,” she agreed.

Loki looked concerned as he took another sip. “How dangerous is this wine?”

“You saw what it did to the morons,” she reminded him. “It’s dangerous, especially to those without magic. It’s easy for them to get drunk on it, or addicted to the magic within it. It’s also easy to influence them while they’re drunk on it. They’ll follow whatever orders are given to them,”

He blinked and she saw his worry. “And to those with magic?” he asked, concerned, though he knew she wouldn’t hurt him, the concern was still there.

“Don’t fret, love. I wouldn’t give you anything that would hurt you. You’ll be fine as long as you don’t drink too much of it. And it replenishes magic. Worst it’ll do to a fae is get us drunk,” she added before he could ask if she was in any danger from it.

He seemed relieved but still said: “I know. I trust you,”

What creatures fall under the “fae” category? I know fairies and elves are fae, are there other fae creatures?

There’s two different major categories of fae: the Courts of Light and the Realm of Shade. These are the aesthetic equivalent to Seelie and Unseelie fae from mythological lore, but in this case, neither side is actually more universally friendly than the other, simply different in their customs.

The Courts of Light are populated with fae resembling sidhe, elves, pixies, and the like. Common traits are pointed ears, wings, elemental affinities, and supernatural grace. Culturally they are as chaotic neutral as the Realm of Shade, but they pride themselves on guiding their impulses with rules and rituals. The Empress of Light and Stone is considered the foundation of their civilization, providing order to their desires.

The Realm of Shade is where the ‘darker’ and more beastly faefolk live. This means creatures like trolls, goblins, kelpies, vampires, and pretty much anything else that doesn’t fit in the Courts of Light. They are still fae, and can be very prideful, but they don’t fixate on rules and conduct as much as Courts. Generally, they are seen by the Courts as savage and inferior, and it is considered a high honour to be recruited into the Empress’s service, even if plenty from the Realm of Shade would disagree. They are often called ‘shades’ for short.

The Empress ultimately rules both forms of fae, though for the Realm of Shade its more as a conqueror than an honoured queen. Shades prefer to keep to themselves and do their own thing more than congregate.

Also, there are various faerie monsters that originated from the Hedge and Faerie that are just magical animals. Most stay in the fae side of things, but it’s not uncommon for them spill out into Earth occasionally.

Closed Starter | Mab x Oberon - @lcstbov

Even as winter crept in, Mab could not help her lips curl at the sight of the weak sunlight that shone bravely overhead. There was always something so… optimistic about the seelie court that even the weather sought to cling onto the remains of the warmer months.

It made Mab’s long pale hand twitch at her side, as if the limb itched to strike out, for nails to rake across tender, yielding flesh. She truly hated this part of the kingdom, the part that was deemed good – beautiful. A common, obvious beauty Mab merely saw as sickly sweet, much like its queen. Enough that the back of her teeth ached just from being within its kingdom’s territory.

Her bare feet were chill as she moved up the palace steps, barely sparing a glance at the faeries who cowered out of her way. She knew what they saw – the dark queen, with long inky black coils of hair that fell past her waist, of a long black silken gown in tatters trailing behind her and of the intricate armoured breastplate that covered her upper-half. Once, she had been considered beautiful, an exquisite dark nightmare who’s ethereal looks and manners had haunted all those who gazed upon her. But now, what was once beautiful had twisted and turned until that beauty became savage, cruel. Full lips in a perpetual scowl, eyes so light they gleamed silver were now cold and hard with hate and the faint gleam of madness.

“A king so just and a queen so fair,” Mab sang softly under her breath as she made her way towards the throne room, knowing the route as if it were etched into her mind. “For all their happiness, they still have no heir.” She smiled faintly as her hands touched the oak of the throne door, pushing past without the need to be announced. “The daemons did not finish you off?” Mab drawled as she sauntered in, one hand lightly resting on the thin rapier sword at her hip. “Shame,” She tsked. “I do not like being summoned so, Oberon. Especially to this dreadful place,” She eyed the bloom of flowers and shuddered. “If this is about the attack of the seelie on the border, well.” Mab smiled, baring a row of gleaming white teeth. “She should not have ventured so far from home, should she?”

Long dark fingernails plucked at one of the stray flowers, pulling apart the petals one by one, softly singing with each fall of its petals. “He loves me, he loves me not, he loves me…” When the final petal fell Mab’s voice echoed. “…he loves me not. Oh.” Cold eyes turned towards the seelie ruler, as cold as the longest winters. The love that had once been in her eyes for the king before her had long since died. “I seem to have fallen out of your favour, darling Oberon.” She allowed the stem to fall, her bare foot grinding the plucked flower into the floor. “What is it you want? Winter solstice is coming and I have revelry to plan.”

3x20...I have only three questions. The first one: How are I and all of us supposed to manage to wait for the next week after this magnificent episode? I didn’t even have the patience to wait for this one! I was at Uni and I just had to watch a couple of reaction videos (muted, but still). Plus, as you can see, I have already fell into Tumblr-rabbit hole and shared some pics.

The second: I know that this was meant to be only season finale. So how the hell can Freeform be such a dick and end this show at this point? There were supposed to come so many amazing storylines after this! And the last one; Am I supposed to stay alive after the next weeks’ two hour finale and accept that this show will be over in seven days (because I surely won’t)?

At first, I have many things to say about Jordan and Maia-situation that I sure as hell (no pun intented) did not see coming. Not many people like Jordan and it's understandable because of everything he did to Maia. But like Maia said, this is her new reality and she has accepted the past and herself. I always knew that he stole the cure for Maia and it was lovely and poetic that he gave her that chance and sacrificed himself for her, but he did not deserve this. Maia has already more or less lost her family, almost her entire pack, and now Jordan? And she did not even get the chance to say goodbye? It was kind of fitting that his funeral were in front of Jade Wolf. I love Maia’s badassness and am sure that she will be an amazing alpha. But even though I have always said that a happy ending does not always need a soulmate to be included, she would’ve deserved love after everything. And what the heck is the deal with Preator? Just tell me, please. I’m sure it turns out to be just as backstabbing as Clave, and it makes me so angry already. Luke, don’t fall for it!

I imagine this episode was a blessing for Sizzy-fans - but still not enough, since there - still! - was no kiss. If I should connect one couple with the term “slow burn”, this one is the first one that comes to my mind. The way Izzy was worried about Simon and protected him - beautiful.

In my dreams, I hoped either Izzy or Maryse would tell Magnus about the proposal. Once again, they were the whole fandom in this situation. The scene between Maryse and Magnus was everything I hoped for and more. It was so touching that Maryse immediately thought that she had done or said something wrong and showed Magnus her sincere love. Character-developement at its best. Harry killed that scene. He did not even have to say anything in the end: you could just see the bewilderness, sorrow, happiness and hatred for Asmodeus. Give this man Oscar already!

Evil - partly - got what it deserved. Even though I had many things to say about Asmodeus, his savageness towards Lorenzo made me cheer for him. Now Lorenzo’s appearance really reflects his soul! The thought of him as Magnus’ pet brings me a huge amount of satisfaction. The way Magnus said: “Did I forget to say “please”?” implied to their earlier discussion when Magnus went to ask his magic back...savage, like I said. What I liked about that scene was that you could see that a tiny part of Magnus was tempted by that much power, but he was almost instantly a little bit guilty about it. And that scene between him and Asmodeus.. wow. So amazing. Magnus has feared for his whole life that he would end up like his father, and now he finally separated himself from him - both physically and mentally. That is never black and white, since It's his father after all. Something about this scene reminded me of the scene from 2x04 (?) when Magnus sent Camille to Idris. I thought that he would send him to Edom, but the thought of him in eternal limbo is so much better. YES!

You can judge me if you want, but a part of me feels really sad for Jonathan. He had been prisoned and no one really taught him what real love is. He doesn’t know how to show love in the right way. So he really thinks whatever he is doing is not enough. And now, when the rune doesn’t work anymore, the good influence he gained from Clary is gone and he thinks he has lost his princess forever. I am really proud that Clary stayed true to her limits (denying the kiss) and still expressed her support to her brother. I am also partly irritated for the Jace’s words: “You are not Morgernstern.” Yes, she is. Realizing that and accepting also the dark parts in herself has been of the biggest things on her journey. But she is ALSO Fairchild and Fray - she is all of them. If she had gone all the way down to “Oh my god, I would have never…it was all Jonathan and Lilith, they influenced on me”-road, I would have cringed so much. So I am really happy she admitted her responsiblity in this situation. Clace-kiss and love confessions were their best this season.

The fight scenes, especially between Clary and Izzy, were really epic. Stabbing Clary with the soul sword… I had chills for the whole scene! I also loved these little scenes: the sexy bickering between Jonathan and Seelie Queen, Meliorn coming to help (he really didn’t say anything to Izzy, though?), Jace and Alec fighting together, “We are Lightwoods” (which reminds me of “We are Lightwoods, we break the noses and take responsibility for it)… and Aline and Helen! <3 I clapped for that little scene so hard! And Alec’s reaction to that was PURE GOLDEN. He was like a proud, gay big brother, smirking knowingly in the background. I am so pissed that they did not show them making out and Alec finding them, though.

Let me tell you... if Matt and Harry won’t get some awards for this season, I will start a riot. *haha* I don’t even know what to say. A part of me is furious that Magnus had to - once again - sacrifice himself to save everyone (since, like he said: ruling Edom would be his worst nightmare), but those scenes were so beautiful I cannot stay mad. The way Alec interrupted his soulmate with a kiss because he missed him so much…his certainty that everything would be okay, because their love is so strong...his tears and collapsing… </3 And the way Magnus was joking to make everyone feel better... My heart couldn’t take it. Like someone here said, the proposal scene was so Malec. With everything that is going on, the long and lingering promises and kisses would’ve felt out of place. You could still feel their love and connection, maybe even more this way. I was laughing and crying and screaming and cheering and... if you are watching abnormallyadam’s reactions, you could picture some of my reactions quite well. It would’ve been a torture to wait after this episode, but I would’ve taken it with my head held high if we just got another season.

I am not ready for the next week. Not in the slightest. Can I just pretend that this show will go on and on until... forever? I would be all in for that. Shadowhunters forever.

falcon arcane, “genie.” everyone is born with a gene that gives them what can only be described with superhero or supernatural powers. some are born with this gene activated already, but most aren’t. genies spent centuries and centuries in hiding until world war two when nazi scientists started experimenting on some they found, and they learned that this gene can be activated with brain alteration. they were shut down after the war, and genies went back into hiding, but falcon’s mother picked the experiments back up after her twins, falcon and vincent, showed signs of being genies. her experiments targeted her children, and how to make them even more powerful. she built an empire on these experiments after being successful with her children, and started activating others genie genes. falcon has spent most of her life rebelling against her mother, while her twin brother is their mother’s pride and joy. so, falcon is under constant supervision and imprisonment, until she agrees to work with her mother and bring in the “nobodies” of the world for the experiments. + quick - witted. resourceful. charming. compassionate. tough. - manipulative. rebellious. stubborn. willful. paranoid. cold.

3x13 Reaction / Commentary

Yeah I'm aware, stop judging X___X

I feel the need to point this out. Apparently it's common practice for the Praetor to just, kill off their more troublesome charges. Interesting. But Jordan has a different work ethic which is a) apparently not usual for praetors and b) something at least Nick attributes to his past and not, idk, common decency. Just how savage is the Praetor exactly?? (Also let me add this to the list of things why 3x15 makes no sense at all.)

Okay, so they found another mundane dead by Heidi's hand...... why exactly don't they call the Shadowhunters? Aren't they obliged to? I mean?

True, but it sure as hell is her responsibility how she handles them. But we established already that she has a serious perception problem and always sees herself as the victim.

I mean, prime example, if she could have made that smooth exit through the vent where the werewolves couldn't follow, why didn't she just do that from the start instead of attacking Nick? Because she wants to cause trouble and not just “live her life in peace” as she's pretending to.

More like, he didn't have the guts to face Alec like that. Also does that mean he draped Izzy on the couch like that in that cliché sleeping pose with one hand under the head? At least he took off her boots like a sane person.

The way he delivers this line me might've as well said “Please cut out the emotional disgusting bullshit my skin is crawling already from this I can't take any more mushiness PLEASE GO AWAY.” Gotta love Alec.

(Sidenote though: No wonder he got frustrated with the pretentious Shadowhunter Technology, I mean, look at it. There are only runes. Runes may be called runes, but they don't actually make up an alphabet. Why the heck is there a flexibility rune on the screen? It makes no sense.)

This whole scene (and Izzy's lipstick lol) is absolutely perfect. I love everything about it, especially Magnus and especially Izzy. I'd be really surprised if Magnus didn't find a way to get her that weird root thingy anyway, because he surely doesn't buy the “feeling a lot better now” line.

(Edit: Now thinking about it I realized two things, a) she probably didn't take him up on his offer to go to another warlock because she felt like that was unnecessarily rubbing in that he can't do it himself anymore* and b) with that line she probably meant she feels lighter already for sharing what happened and just <3<3<3<3<3)

*The only think that would have made this scene more perfect is if Izzy hadn't skimmed over his magic comment without acknowledging it in any way. Though with this thought in mind, that she rejected his offer to spare his feelings, I find myself placated.

Also I love how Magnus pretends he's going to look for pen and paper when really he's running straight to Alec to tell him all about this (and to prevent a repetition of 2x09 form happening.... and now I made myself sad again).

I mean, I have sympathy for her. But like, she's too smart for me to buy that she genuinely can't see any other course of action. She just does this because it's the least effort for her, not because she's truly clueless what alternatives are there for here (aka not running around, killing mundanes, starting a fight with everyone). She just thrives on chaos.

Also “Wolves don't just attack without cause. Not in New York” ? Seems like all Institute except the NY one do a shit job since supposedly keeping peace between the Downworld factions is part of their responsibility. Yes, I am still salty about 3x15. (Also, if anyone's confused by this weird foreshadowing, I wrote notes for this reaction post while watching 3x13 when it first aired, but only got to finish it now after 3x19 aired and I can't keep my chronology-screwing bitterness to myself while finishing up the post. But mostly these are my thoughts from then.)

Yeah something tells me she's not gonna be totally uninvolved in that.

This and the fact that Russel wants to stop Bat from even leaving the Jade Wolf are the final proofs that all the werewolves actually live at the Jade Wolf and pile up in a giant snuggle pile in the kitchen at night. This is further cemented by the fact that Luke and Maia claim to have flats of their own but we never actually see them. Clearly they're both dirty liars that just wanted to mislead.

Alec Lightwood, best brother of the year. Btw he's been holding that title since birth. I also don't think Alec would ever judge Izzy for her addiction / look at her as if she's weak, so the fact that she thinks that says a lot about how the addiction affected her self-image.

Too bad Alec forgets this for the next few episodes and acts like a total tool in that Clave Investigation Thing, smh.

But their runes aren't on the same side. Sloppy work. Also, if the illustrator obviouly takes artistic liberties, then the rune missing on the second pic doesn't have to mean anything. Maybe they just forgot to draw it. Then again this isn't even the most flimsy conclusion-making I've wittnessed on this show so I'll let it slide.

......didn't she just break up with him because pack reasons? Where is that not a Shadow World Reason? Please explain. (Also choosing an unflattering screen cap of Simon because he annoys me? Absolutely. I am petty like that.) The easy way Simon accepts their break up really makes me wonder. If Maia hadn't said anything, would he have broken up with her? Since apparently things “changed” and they could “both” “feel” it. Honestly. He literally calls her his girlfriend at the start of the scene as if to draw attention to how ridiculous this is.

You know what, I don't even have the energy to rage about this. Their relationship was so great, they were so supportive of each other, they had great chemistry, great communication, they always stood by each other. And just because Sizzy has to be endgame there were suddenly weird-ass tension between them for no real reason – none that 3A Saia wouldn't have worked through like pros anyway – just so this break up wouldn't come out of absolutely nowhere. It's shit treatment of both their characters and their relationship and I'm just so exasperated with it all. (Also not the way to endear me to Sizzy. But at this point I feel like a broken record.)

Discount? It was free. Which I'm still finding super hard to believe by the way, that a werewolf establishment would just give out free food to vampires who don't even work there. But what do I know, right, I mean it's not like they just mentioned a few minutes ago how werewolves and vampires hate each other? Right?? Hahaha.

Wow. This actually takes the time to highlight that this break up wasn't as amicable as Simon thought. Maybe he thought that they were breaking up for human reasons, but Maia clearly feels she threw her relationship away for the pack and it's hard for her. And Simon's tirade wasn't really encouraging her to let him know that. I really appreciate that detail.

Other things I want to say: 1) I didn't like that Maia just flat out broke up with him. She should have informed him that she was going to step up for the pack and would have to prioritize that over their relationship and then leave it up to him if he wants to put up with that or not. By breaking up she made the choice for him. Her course of action is ic, I'm not critizising that, but from like, a personal stand point I don't like it. 2) Foreshadowing: Since her whole pack gets slaughtered, if that would have been the only reason to break up with Simon she coulda just gotten back together with him lol. Haha sorry I'm trash. I know.

Wow he's really dumb. He knows Heidi's brand of crazy and still he doesn't realize this was a trap. He said himself that Heidi must have done something for the Preator to be after her, and when the Praetor tells him she's been leaving copses left and right he...... takes this as his cue to ally himself with Heidi??? Wtf?????? Does he not believe what Jordan said? Again, he suspected something like that himself and since the Praetor are playing at being the Downworlder Police they wouldn't just make something like that up with no proof. The heck. I don't get you, Boss Vampire Guy.

Also, thumbs down for the Praetor, if they'd just told them their source was Heidi herself (on the phone) this could have been prevented. But, ugh. With how things are I can at least kinda buy that no working communication between vampire clan and Praetor exists.

Still, if the Praetor wants to be accepted as some kind of Shadow World Institution they should really work on their manners.

Okay I did her injustice in my trailer reaction since this is a vamp and a legitimate fight situation.

Wow that actually surprised me. But Jordan also dies in the books so, oops. Just didn't think they'd skip the getting together.

WOW that really surprised me. I thought Maia would challenge him and they'd have an epic fight to the death or something. (Also wtf Griffin guy, what's with that creeper face.)

To be honest I find it hard to believe that Maia acts like this. Scared out of her mind, yeah sure. But she acts helpless, and she's never been that. When she got that pipe thing I thought she'd use it as a stake. Using it to block the door is smart, too, but why didn't she get another to have a stake? Her whole posture, uselessly hangig over Jordan screams damsel in distress and I don't like it at all.

Edit: I had certain fears how this plotline would be developed in 3x14 which thankfully didn't come true, but my conflicted opinion on this ending scene remains.

Anyway let’s take a moment and appreciate Maia’s Killer Boots.

BTW watched the 3x14 trailer and just.... what. Why the f would Magnus ask Lorenzo of all people for help? He can't be trusted. As if he wouldn't use that opportunity to break Magnus even further! WTF! Where's Catarina? Oh, let me guess, another Drunk Doctor Conference *epic eyeroll*

Well… this is gonna be long so, I’m warning you now! Also, this isn’t even half of the reasons why I don’t like her.

And book fans, before you come at me, read this, I will know if you haven’t.

Why Cassandra Clare’s Portrayal of LGBTQ+ Characters Is Problematic, with receipts.

I’m gonna start simple with the way she handled Raphael being Aromantic and Asexual, technically, this isn’t even canon in the books. She posted it on Twitter. That was it. That was how much she cared. She had an entire story in The Bane Chronicles dedicated to him but still, all it got was a tweet. Which she literally confirmed was just a headcanon. [source]

In advance, here is basically types of biphobia in general. That I won’t include here, just for the length of the post.

Alec is very biphobic. There are several slut shaming incidents towards Magnus, especially in City of Fallen Angels. A memorable moment that immediately comes to mind is when Alec finds out about Camille and Magnus’ past. I believe this is when Alec finds out about Magnus’ sexuality in Chapter 13.

“We know each other.” Magnus shrugged, very slightly, as if to say, What can you do? “Once upon a time she wasmy girlfriend.”

[chapter break]

“Your girlfriend?” Alec looked astonished. So did Maryse. Simon couldn’t say he was unastonished himself.“You dated a vampire? A girl vampire?”

[another irrelivant paragraph goes here before Alec comes back to the topic]

“How many other people?” Alec asked. “Roughly.”

Magnus shook his head. “I can’t count, and it doesn’t matter. The only thing that matters is how I feel about you.”

“More than a hundred?” Alec asked. Magnus looked blank. “Two hundred?”

“I can’t believe we’re having this conversation now,” Magnus said, to no one in particular. Simon was inclined toagree, and wished they weren’t having it in front of him.

“Why so many?” Alec’s blue eyes were very bright in the dimness. Simon couldn’t tell if he was angry. He didn’tsound angry, just very intense, but Alec was a shut-down person, and perhaps this was as angry as he ever got.“Do you get bored with people fast?”

Now, perhaps Alec is just surprised, but this last paragraph bugs me particularly, because the “do you get bored with people fast” is kinda slut shaming, it emphasises the “bisexuals sleep around” stereotype, and it’s even more problematic that Alec insists on having this conversation in the middle of the Institute, in public.

Then later in the book (chapter 15), Alec brings it up again, in public.

“Good organization,” said Magnus. “I knew the man who founded it, back in the 1800s. Woolsey Scott. Respectable old werewolf family.”

Alec made an ugly sound in the back of his throat. “Did you sleep with him, too?”

Magnus’s cat eyes widened. “Alexander!”

“Well, I don’t know anything about your past, do I?” Alec demanded. “You won’t tell me anything; you just say it doesn’t matter.”

Magnus’s face was expressionless, but there was a dark tinge of anger to his voice. “Does this mean every time I mention anyone I’ve ever met, you’re going to ask me if I had an affair with them?”

Alec’s expression was stubborn, but Simon couldn’t help having a flash of sympathy; the hurt behind his blue eyes was clear. “Maybe.”

“I met Napoleon once,” said Magnus. “We didn’t have an affair, though. He was shockingly prudish for a Frenchman.”

“You met Napoleon?” Jordan, who appeared to be missing most of the conversation, looked impressed. “So it’s true what they say about warlocks, then?”

Alec gave him a very unpleasant look. “What’s true?”

“Alexander,” said Magnus coldly, and Clary met Simon’s eyes across the table. Hers were wide, green, and full of an expression that said Uh-oh. “You can’t be rude to everyone who talks to me.”

Alec made a wide, sweeping gesture. “And why not? Cramping your style, am I? I mean, maybe you were hoping to flirt with werewolf boy here. He’s pretty attractive, if you like the messy-haired, broad-shouldered, chiseled-good-looks type.”

“Hey, now,” said Jordan mildly.

Magnus put his head in his hands.

“Or there are plenty of pretty girls here, since apparently your taste goes both ways. Is there anything you aren’t into?”

“Mermaids,” said Magnus into his fingers. “They always smell like seaweed.”

“It’s not funny,” Alec said savagely, and kicking back his chair, he got up from the table and stalked off into the crowd.

Magnus still had his head in his hands, the black spikes of his hair sticking out between his fingers. “I just don’tsee,” he said to no one in particular, “why the past has to matter.”

This ^^^ entire thing just annoys the hell out of me and goes past problematic to abusive.

Alec doesn’t trust Magnus anymore. It was fine when he thought Mangus was gay, but the minute he realises Magnus is Bisexual, he instantly thinks he’s flirting with Jordan and trying to cheat on him and it’s utterly ridiculous.

Not only does this has some pretty abusive themes in relationship terms, but the biphobia is astounding.

Just to add to it, it states that Simon sympathises with Alec, which means that CC really does defend this, she thinks that this is okay. Which it’s not.

Alec then storms off like a child leaving a very clearly hurt Magnus behind. Later they have a conversation where Magnus is trying to justify himself, but surprise surprise they’re interrupted and there is no apology.

Then, moving onto City of Lost Souls, we have this:

Clary glanced past him and asked, “Where’s Magnus?”

“He said it would be better if he didn’t come. Apparently he and the Seelie Queen have some kind of history.”

Isabelle raised her eyebrows.

“Not that kind of history,” said Alec irritably. “Some kind of feud. Though,” he added, half under his breath, “the way he got around before me, I wouldn’t be surprised.”

This was nearly an entire book later, and Alec still hasn’t realised or been properly called out on it. He’s had time to adjust but no… What bugs me most about this (despite the blatant lack of trust) is the fact that Magnus isn’t even there to defend himself. Alec is making completely unnecessary, rude, comments about his boyfriend to his sister and their friends. It does say that he and Isabelle hang back to talk, but we have no idea what she says to him.

All of that not only indicates Alec’s biphobia, but shows just some of the blatant bisexual stereotypes that surround Magnus.

Now, book Malec… this could take a while.

I’m gonna try and do this in order, but sorry if it’s a little mixed up.

Magnus isn’t comfortable being in a relationship with Alec when he’s closested, which is fair enough, this isn’t necessarily a bad thing. But the part I have an issue with is that he basically ignores Alec completely and pushes Alec to come out, knowing that Alec lives in a very homophobic society.

Also, I’m pretty sure Alec was only 17 at the beginning of CoB.

Alec is literally the token gay. He’s supposed to be a strong leader, and a soldier. But he has never killed a demon until he’s eighteen, which is considered very, very late, for a Shadowhunter, and for Gods sake, Simon (a mundane at the time) killed a demon first in City of Bones… it’s unrealistic.

There is no trust in their relationship, at all. Alec doesn’t trust Magnus not to cheat. Alec goes behind Magnus’ back, to his abusive ex, to try and shorten his life, whether he changed his mind or not, it was still ridiculous. On the plus side, Alec finally learnt the word “sorry”.

A lot of Malec’s relationship was queerbaiting, there was rarely any of their relationship on page, and their “big moment” which CC is so very proud of and loves taking praise for is literally a paragraph long before it goes back to the incest/hetero/love triangle drama.

Maia smiled tightly. “I’m not a Shadowhunter. Lycanthropes are considered adults at sixteen.“

"Well, you have to get drawn on, then,” said Isabelle. “By a Shadowhunter. So you’d better look for one."

"But-” Maia, still looking over at Alec and Magnus, broke off and raised her eyebrows. Simon turned to see what she was looking at-and stared.

Alec had his arms around Magnus and was kissing him, full on the mouth. Magnus, who appeared to be in a state of shock, stood frozen. Several groups of people-Shadowhunters and Downworlders alike-were staring and whispering. Glancing to the side, Simon saw the Lightwoods, their eyes wide, gaping at the display. Maryse had her hand over her mouth.

Maia looked perplexed. “Wait a second,” she said. “Do we all have to do that, too?”

That’s literally it. Her big moment that makes her think that her token gay couple are so epic, is a sentence, told from somebody else’s perspective… Wow… it’s amazing! Give CC an award!

Sidelined. For an entire book. They just get together and they’re just happy and then they’re gone, which is totally unnecessary. And now yes, she is writing stories for a Magnus trilogy about what happened. But she’s just covering her own ass, because people told her how problematic it was. They come back from vacation and the biphobia begins…

City of Lost Souls… the biphobia continues, the lack of trust continues. But, we get Aline and Helen and I’ll come to them in a moment.

Then we have City of Heavenly Fire which is a mess and screams “sassy gay” stereotype for Alec, which was kinda cringy. But there’s this.

“Is that why you forgave me? For me, or you?” Alec said, not angry, just curious.

“I forgave you because I love you and I hate being without you. I hate it, my cat hates it. And because Catarina convinced me I was being stupid.”

“Mmm. I like her.”

And I presume they’re talking about forgiveness for the immortality thieving thing, which becomes very problematic.

Because Magnus forgave him… because Catarina told him he was being stupid?? Which he wasn’t?? Alec tried to shorten his life, he tried to ensure his death. I feel like people so often brush that aside, which CC does here. Magnus never forgave Alec properly, not for the right reasons. And I just… how do you have a healthy relationship when it’s based on that.

Her version of Malec’s happy ending, is keeping Magnus immortal and Alec mortal, and giving them a mortal and immortal child. Whereas she takes away Simon’s immortality so that the white (they’re both white in the books) heterosexuals can grow old together but Malec doesn’t get that luxury. Not to mention this means Max is going to watch his brother and father grow old and die and Magnus has to deal with one of his sons, and his husband/boyfriend die.

Now, Aline and Helen. As you might have noticed from my url, I love Aline. I love her so much, but not how CC portrayed her. So, basically, I love the fandoms version of her.

But, Heline, like Malec, is frowned on by their entire community and they’re tragically split up, and Helen is exiled, if they want to be together Aline has to leave too.

Then… that’s about it for a while. Apparently, stuff happens that we don’t see… then suddenly they’re engaged and getting married.

Their entire wedding is surrounded by negativity, as the Clave set a condition that Helen could only marry Aline if she humiliated herself at the Acadamy, lying to the students so they would fear faeries. Then I’m pretty sure they have to leave again.

Then we come to TDA, specifically LoS… now, we’re suddenly hit by a tonne of lgbt+ characters and it seems rather suspicious and not CC’s style *cough*fanservice *cough* queerbaiting *cough* CC is profiting from Malec’s relationship, and since she’s realised that she’s just thrown a tonne more characters in for the hell of it.

Lord of the Shadows Spoilers ahead

Aline Penhallow - Sexually assaulted, faced homophobia and disapproval from her parents, her girlfriend was exiled, if she wanted to be with Helen she had to leave too, marriage is overshadowed by the clave’s racism.

Helen Blackthorn - orphaned, banished as punishment for her parentage, wasn’t allowed to get married unless she was paraded around the academy so she could be mocked, feared and turn more Shadowhunters against faeries

Diana Wrayburn - A Trans Woman of Colour, who’s parents forced her to be a man in public, and is surrounded by tragedy when she loses her sister then her parents.

Mark Blackthorn - Was kidnapped, tortured, beaten, abused, abandoned by his people, used as a bargaining chip, faced biphobic stereotypes by his boyfriend and has faced more trauma than probably any other mortal in any of the books.

Keiran - had his title taken away, lied about Mark, putting him in danger to try and get him back, then was abducted.

Kit and Ty is nothing but queerbait at the moment.

And none of this even covers how badly she treats Isabelle and how unecessary Livvy’s death was...

To summarise it all:

CC didn’t care about Raphael’s identity.

Alec is still biphobic.

Book!Malec is very, very unhealthy and borderline abusive.

Heline were sidelined every five minutes.

CC treats her LGBT+ characters terribly.

Just because there are LGBT+ characters, doesn’t mean that it has good representation. Any questions?

Uh.. what can be said bout this week’s malec~

- obviously the dinner scene was super cute and domestic. We also found out that Alec literally has zero poker face. Boy~ you can’t look more suspicious if you jump on the table and shouting out loud ‘Secret? What secret?’while doing the hula dance half naked~! XD

- Again, i love how Alec cupped the side of Magnus’s head when kissing him.

- Seriously though~ how convenient it is to have a warlock as your boyfriend? Late for your dinner date and the restaurant already close? no problemo~ let me just magicked an impromptu fancy office picnic in a jiffy.

- Magnus trusted Alec implicitly. That’s what made it hurts so much. He never even entertained the idea that Alec might already knows until Luke mentioned it. And even then, he didn’t believe it.

- I.. actually like their arguing scene. Alec trying to shush Magnus when his voice got loud was funny.. and so real.. lol..

OKAY.

I’ve read some fans are angry at Alec:

- he should trusts Magnus more

- he shouldn’t follow The Clave orders

- he shouldn’t scold Magnus when he was at fault in the first place

Some are angry at Magnus.

- he is selfish

- he makes this all about himself. He wants Alec to focus on him only

- he doesn’t understand Alec’s difficult position as the Head of the Institute

- he shouldn’t be so sensitive

I~... kinda disagree and agree with both.

I mean, I’m not angry at Alec nor Magnus. Coz i think their reactions were normal given their circumstances. It all depends on whose pov you look at.

Alec:

- he IS the leader of Institute. he IS bound to The Clave orders. There’s this thing called accountability, so he can’t simply just do whatever he wants no matter how right he thinks they are. PLUS, the secret was told to him by Robert. So by all means, even Alec wasn’t supposed to know. he has to think about the pros and cons of every single actions he plans to take before doing them. And if i’m not mistaken, it wasn’t like he knows about the secrets weeks before.. I bet in the show, it was only couple of days that he got to know about it. Magnus just got back from meeting the Seelie Queen. So this dinner was the first time they met each other after that.

I honestly don’t think Alec has enough time to processed it fully, let alone think about sharing to with Magnus. For one thing, does he tells Magnus only or ALL the Downworlder leaders.. If he told them, would they keep the secret or would they cause a riot? Transparency.. does that means with Magnus only or with everyone? What is The Clave got to know about it, would Robert be in trouble?

And tbh, i think part of Alec doesn’t want to tell Magnus is also due to his upbringing. Yes, he is in a relationship with a Downworlder now.. but that can’t quite erase the 20+ years of lessons that Downworlders are savages compare to those of Angel’s blood.. that all Downworlders are untrustworthy and incapable of being rational.

Magnus:

- Like he said, Valentine wants all of them (Downworlders) dead. So yes, they do have the right to know that the weapon that could obliterate them is currently with their enemy and not being kept safely with the so-called police of the Shadow world.

Think it like this, if there’s a big ass meteor coming towards earth right now that will kill us all, wouldn’t we have the right to know? Regardless of the fact that the government might think otherwise (’We don’t want everyone to panic’.. sounds familiar?). It’s our lives we’re talking about here.. of course we have the right to know what’s going on.

I think one of the reasons Magnus is super angry was because he trusted Alec, he defended the Shadowhunters to other Downworlders because of that trust. What would happen if other Downworlders got to know about this? Magnus is the highly respected High Warlock.. what would happen if his own people wont trust him because they think his judgement is clouded by his relationship with Alec?

I also think Magnus kinda used his past experience with other Shadowhunters against Alec sometimes. Just as Alec is subconsciously fell back on his upbringing in dealing with Downworlders, a small part of Magnus could judge Alec a bit too quickly based on the fact Alec is a Shadowhunter. He knows Alec is different but at the same time he is scared what if Alec is the same as them others afterall..?

- I think given time, Alec would be an amazing and great leader. he would know when not to follow The Clave blindly, how to maneuver his way between keeping The Clave off his back and keeping the peace with the Downworlders. It is very unfortunate that all this Valentine thing happens just when Alec took over the Institute (which btw, they shouldnt let Alec take over yet and maybe a more experienced leader sould be in charge - someone that we dont care getting screwed over by the Clave.. and let Alec be the leader when everything calms down and valentine/sebastian out of the picture) and making him looks bad.

- I don’t think Magnus is being selfish or overly sensitive in getting angry at Alec. I think it is full well in his right to feel betrayed - as Alec’s boyfriend and also as Warlock leader who decided before to put his trust into this so-called new management. I think it is okay and NORMAL for Magnus to be livid and went off on a tantrum because regardless his years of living, he has that right to show how angry he was. Magnus has always been the gentler one of the two so it’s good for him to let off steam once in a while.

I’m not saying he’s a horrible boyfriend (Seriously, he is the best boyfriend in the entire Shadow World universe right now...). BUT he really should learn how to communicate with his partner better.. like what NOT to say and do and when to shut up when your partner is angry at you.. ^^;;;
