What sort of ice cream flavours do you think the potc characters would like?
Jack: I'm so torn. On the one hand, I think he'd like a good chocolate/cherry mix, but on the other hand, I can just see him like a 7 year old kid with some sherbert because let's be real, the Caribbean is hot and sherbert is a great cold desert, especially the orange cream kind.
Will: Apple or blueberry pie. There are versions of these with little chunks of crust and caramelized apples / fresh blueberries in there that are great. I think he'd appreciate them as a sort of homey flavor.
Lizzie: Chocolate fudge brownie or something else incredibly rich. I think she has a secret sweet tooth, so these would be perfect.
James: mint chocolate chip. For some reason, it's one of the more controversial flavors, and he's one of the more discoursed-over characters. I think he'd find it refreshing.
Backett: coffee, which I think should be self-explanitory. OR lavender but that's only if we're being sad because lavender is commonly used to suppress anxiety (I take it in pills before tests).
Barbossa: Salted caramel, maybe? Idk, he's the salty sailor stereotype, plus it's just a good flavor without being overwhelmingly rich. Obviously he'd also be a fan of apple pie, but speaking of his apple affinity, you can't convince me he never made caramel apples.

Sorry I'm a bit late to the party - what type of fanfiction do you write/currently write? You mentioned an RU fic?
Morning/evening/afternoon anon! Thank you for asking, hope you’re well.
Well, I write a lot of fanfiction, (Pirates of the Caribbean, Jurassic Park/World) but the only stuff I post is for Harry Potter.
I have two fics posted, both in a WIP state. There’s one other that I haven’t posted and I’m waiting to be finished before uploading, here is the list.
Available:
Regretfully Uncaring (RU)
My long fic. My baby. I looooove it with all my heart. Currently rewriting/editing the vast majority of it because this was really my first proper toe into creative writing, and as it’s gone on my skill set has improved considerably and, as I say in the summary on AO3, I want the story to be as accessible and enjoyable as it can be to the most amount of people.
It’s a werewolf fic, but it’s also a lot more than that. As the name implies it’s about regret. The name actually comes from something an addict I know told me, where when you’re hooked on something you regret your actions but you can’t get yourself to care. It’s about learning how to love again. It’s about acceptance, revolution. But really it’s about addiction. I say all that from the perspective of the author. It’s a ton of other things and my readers get different stuff out of it I’m sure.
It’s an ensemble cast story, so the perspective shifts quite a few times per chapter. I think there’s something like 20 characters that each lead a role at some point. Plenty of pairings, but the focuses are Harry/Ginny and Ron/Daphne. There’s time travel, there’s world building, the entire plot is essentially original and that’s why it’s my Bebe.
Because Regretfully Uncaring is a test run. Once the tournament concludes in chapter 28/29, it’s basically just a Harry Potter version of my original work that I poke away at. I want to make movies someday, and maybe Hollywood and general audiences as a whole will be more up to some original stories and less remakes/sequels because fuck I have so many ideas and this really is one of them.
FFN | AO3
Big thanks to @curse-04 and @muib92 who I can’t tag for some reason. Their genuine interest in what I’ve written has kept me going through so much, more than just writing. Even if you’re the same person with an alt account, I appreciate it.
A Short Life Full of Long Years (ASLFOLY)
Yeah so I don’t have as much to say about this one. Only reason it isn’t a one-shot is because my brain can’t just let things end so here we are. It’s a post-war soul bond fic, again: Harry and Ginny are the focus here. Together they go travelling in search of Andromeda and Teddy, who have gone into hiding in the muggle world somewhere in Europe. They have a vague map without any marked destinations, oh, and a vengeful Death is after Harry since his survival in the forest. I really wanted to explore what a soul bond post HBP/DH would look like, and I’ve enjoyed myself so far. Eventually, if I feel like it, they might become a secret agent duo. At the moment I have very little plan for this story, i just like writing it as it goes. People have loved it so far, so there’s that.
FFN | AO3
Biggest thanks to @fizzyginfizz for leaving the best review I’ve ever received on any story, let alone ASLFOLY. I still think about it.
-
So yeah that’s what’s uploaded, that’s what I tend to talk about. The stuff I won’t post is pretty simple.
My PotC fic is a follow up to the fifth film that explains Davy Jones and Jack’s actions in the Sea of Thieves portion of the story line. It’s pretty good and I’m thinking I might eventually post but there’s only like 20k words at the moment.
My Jurassic Park/World fic is just a rewrite of the latest film. Call me stupid or whatever but I was hella invested in the Jurassic story and I was looking forward to the conclusion/follow up after Fallen Kingdom. But *NO* they had to FUCK IT UP. Anyway it’s pretty damn good as a story but I will never ever post this one because no one is learning about my obsession for Jurassic Park that intimately.
Thank you for asking anon and sorry for rambling. Going to grammar edit this now, have a wonderful day.

Songs & poetry I currently know by heart
Thought it might be fun to start a list of these :) just cause... And because if I don't go through these from time to time, I'll unlearn them again, and I tend to forget half of these even exist, so... List :D
Vaguely in the order I learned them:
Songs:
Amy McDonald - Pretty Face
Halsey - New Americana
Don McLean - American Pie (though I keep messing up the 3. & 4th stanza adsfg)
Coldplay - Viva la Vida (and I can more or less do it on the piano but like. the vocal melody? xD)
Taylor Swift - The Lakes
King Princess - 1950 (... probably need to re-learn hL of that)
Hole in the bottom of the sea (my parents taught me on vacation two years ago or so? Hilarious)
Måneskin - Zitti e Buoni
Jax - Victoria's Secret (2022)
Four Seasons - December, 1963 (Oh, What a Night) (Dec'22)
Poetry:
Madelline - Dopamine (french version) (Jun'23)
Jericho (Jul'23)
Theodor Fontane - John Maynard (leider nur noch halbwegs :( also ich kriegs hin aber nur mit viel überlegen lol xD dang it, I used to know this one!)
John McCrae - In Flanders Fields (I'm 99% certain I learned that one bc it was mentioned in some fanfic but I can't for the life of me remember which fic or even which fandom adsfg)
Update 03/23: Caitlyn Seida - Hope Is Not A Bird, Emily, It's A Sewer Rat Update
04/23: Mary Elizabeth Frye - Do not stand at my grave and qeep
04/23: Emily Dickinson - Hope is the Thing with Feathers
Piano:
PotC melody (right hand properly, left hand not rly at all)
LotR (pretty much all of them one finger style, but part of the elves theme I can do with both hands properly)
Good Omens theme (right hand)
Also every song I know the melody of I can pretty much do one finger style by ear... Reminds me I used to know a couple songs by Eisblume and LaFee by heart that are no longer on the above list, o.o (I can still do the melody, but not the words)
... to be taken with a grain of salt though, I've not had access to a piano for a few months now, and while I'm sure I can still do PotC, I'm not certain I've learned the other two by heart enough for them to stick that long without practice
Learning:
Ursula K. Le Guin - Hymn to Time (I can do the first two stanzas now) - update 04/23: three stanzas!
Sappho - On What is Best (haven't really started yet but I have the tab open)
Irish Eyes (Jun'23)
Aaaand the probably largest category of them all:
Shit I've unlearned :((
LaFee - Ring Frei
Eisblume - Louise
Eisblume - Eisblumen
Taylor Swift - Love Story
Amy Macdonald - Spark
Amy Macdonald - This is the Life
ABBA - Mamma Mia
ABBA - Honey Honey
Lena - Satellite
Idk whether it counts as poetry or what but I used to be able to do large parts of Shakespeare's Romeo & Juliet and Midsummer Night's dream, plus other plays (though usually just the parts I played in drama club)

Thanks for the tag! :D Makes me happy you thought of me ehe
Favorite Color: Periwinkle, though I’m also fond of violet~
Currently Reading: I don’t remember if I actually started something or not because I’m very inconsistent when I read now lmao but the last book I read was The Secret Garden (unabridged, I read the abridged version in elementary school) and it’s SO GOOD aaaa
Last Song: ……..Bubblegum Bitch by Marina. It’s been stuck in my head for the past few days help
Last Film: Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides >:3 Picked up a mild pirate obsession half a year ago and figured I should watch the PotC series and finally started getting around to it recently
Last Series: I don’t remember, probably me watching Shark Tank with my parents or smthn lmao. I should watch more shows
Sweet/Savory/Spicy: Sweet? Savory? Savory.
Craving: I have had a food craving exactly once /j (but idk, nothing right now)
Tea or Coffee: Coffee. No question.
I unfortunately don’t have the braincells to tag anyone lol but if you want to participate then have at it :3c
Got tagged by @emilyrox but I KNOW i've been tagged in this one before by someone else.. poppie maybe? I just now got the motivation to do it though!
rules: tag nine people you want to get to know better!
favorite color: Purple! Light or dark or anywhere in between; makes me so happy!
currently reading: I think "The Shuttle" by Frances Hodgson Burnett counts, even though I haven't actually picked it up since before the summer 😅
last song: “Red" by Taylor Swift!
last film: unfortunately it was "National Security." I say "unfortunately" because I hate the kind of cop movies about racism my dad picks that are full of language and innuendo (my parents both said they didn't remember it being that bad) and where you can't really get into the plot because the case isn't really easily solvable.
last series: My mom and sister and I started a rewatch of Kim Possible last night because I said I'd never watched it all the way through
sweet, savoury or spicy: Sweet!
craving: mocha, chocolate baked goods, dollar general literacy foundation dark chocolate bars, extra toasty cheez its
tea or coffee: coffee, as long as it doesn't taste like coffee. I don't like thin hot liquids very much. I am a huge fan of raspberry iced tea though!
tagging: @whaleiumsharkspeare @cosette141 @booksteaandtoomuchtv @kingofbr00klyn @pirateprincessofpizza @horizon-penblade @i-am-a-stupid-robot @melliabee and @hollers-and-holmes!

Weirdly Specific Movie/TV/Book AUs
There will eventually be a part 2 of this list because I have quite a few of these.
These are fics based on movies, books, TV, and fairytales. They range from pop culture to classic literature, and from vaguely similar to super close retellings.
Includes title (with link), chapter and word count, work it’s based on, and an intro. My personal favorites are indicated with a 🦋
The Spark Rated M/ 25 chapters, 72k words/ The Hunger Games AU/ Rey Niima won the 74th Hunger Games when the last tribute sacrificed herself to save her. Now she must navigate the aftermath of winning the games she never wanted to be a part of and never thought she’d survive. (If you don’t think you need a hunger games au in your life, you’re WRONG. This follows the general story of catching fire and mockingjay. There aren’t really any tags and this a kinda obvious but expect hunger games typical violence)🦋
Bring Me That Horizon Rated T/ 25 chapters, 130k words/ Pirates Of The Caribbean AU/ Ben, the governor’s nephew, disappears after a pirate attack. Rey, a blacksmith apprentice, teams up with a different band on pirates to get him back. (While this IS a Reylo fic, their relationship is definitely not the focus of this story. Also, I’ve been searching for over a year for a good pirate fic and this is the best one I’ve come across. Listen to the PiratesXStar Wars album by Samuel Kim while reading this lol)
Sabers Out Rated T/ 2 chapters, 13k words/ KNIVES OUT AU/ Crime Novelist Anakin Skywalker is dead. Private Investigator Armitage Hux has been brought in to solve the case. (A kinda canonverse version of knives out, featuring Reylo. Shout out to Rian Johnson for the 💯/10 content)
whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth Rated T/ 7 chapters, 16k words/ BBC’s SHERLOCK AU/ When in need of a new place to live, Rey moves into 221B Baker Street with Kylo Ren, a madman and the world’s ‘only consulting detective’. Chaos ensues.🦋
Amidala’s Star Rated T/ 10 chapters, 36k words/ The Little Mermaid AU/ Young mermaid Rey rescues a boy from a shipwreck, not knowing that saving him will change her whole life. (A mix of the original and Disney version, plus a little bit of POTC. Sadly this fic is now on a ‘private’ setting, so you can’t read it as a guest, you’ll need to have an Ao3 account)
Smoke and Retribution Rated M/ 19 chapters, 54k words/ Bluebeard AU/ When Rey is told by a mysterious man to steal from Ben Solo, it doesn’t go so well. After she’s thrown out of her scavenging group for failing, she decides to go back to Ben and confront him. (Major steampunk vibes. Also, my favorite clone wars character makes a little cameo. I’m not gonna lie, I’ve never heard/read Bluebeard so I have no idea how accurate of a retelling this is😂)
Dark Fate Rated M/ 16 chapters, 69k words/ Frankenstein AU/ Rey has been engaged to aspiring doctor Armitage Hux most of her life. When she turns 18 and arrives at his home to be married, she finds him to be cold and distant. And hiding a big secret in the basement. (This author is amazing btw)
If you’re looking for a specific fic genre or trope, check out my masterlist and if you don’t see what you’re looking for, check out this post for more info on making a request!

LIST OF AU AND CROSSOVER VERSES.
I’m always open to more. I may have some aus that were made for certain plots and threads that aren’t listed here.
BONES
Seeley Booth -
Angel crossover - post A:ts, Angel is made human and given all new memories, his old memories gone. He is now Seeley Booth, and FBI agent, who just so happens to dream of demons.
ANGEL THE SERIES
Angel -
Bones crossover - post A:ts, Angel is made human and given all new memories, his old memories gone. He is now Seeley Booth, and FBI agent, who just so happens to dream of demons.
Shanshu / human au - the powers that be make Angel human, cue him trying to figure out how to be human and still help people.
Cordelia Chase
Pretty much anything set in season 4 and on is gonna be au. I don’t follow canon. Cordy does NOT sleep with Connor, and she doesn’t get pregnant. She may lose her memory and get possessed by Jasmine and end up in a coma, but she survives.
Kathy
Vampire au - instead of killing her, Angelus turns Kathy into a vampire.
Fred Burkle
AU where Fred and Illyria cohabitate in her body. Fred lives, sharing her body with the ancient god, who occasionally takes over, but is otherwise a cranky voice in her head.
DC
Lucy Quinzel
Older au - set roughly 15 years after her main verse, she’s in her mid/late 30s. More details in bio.
Btvs crossover - Lucy is a vampire slayer, set post season seven of btvs
Star Wars crossover- she’s a pirate / smuggler / part time rebel. More details in bio.
Expanse crossover - Belter, lives on Ceres. More details in bio.
DETROIT: BECOME HUMAN
Connor
Machine au - self explanatory, he never becomes a deviant, stays a ‘machine’.
Star Wars crossover - Made to serve the empire/first order. Eventually deviates and joins the rebels. More details in bio.
Chloe
Machine
Deviant - she has been deviant for years, since around the time Elijah left Cyberlife
Gavin Reed
Half brothers au - au where he and Elijah are half brothers. More details in bio.
“Sixty” RK-800-60
Good ending - deviants win. Sixty is damaged but not destroyed in the fight with Connor. More details in bio.
Bad ending - deviants lose. Sixty replaces the previous Connor. More details in bio.
DEXTER
Dexter Morgan
Supernatural crossover - Dexter is a hunter. He was taught by Harry. He uses this as a way to satisfy his murderous urges. He has killed (and will kill) humans, if too long passes between hunts. Deb doesn’t know, Harry didn’t tell her.
HANNIBAL
Will Graham
DC crossover - instead of working in New Orleans before the FBI, Will was a detective in Gotham. Can either take place while he is still a detective or after he joined the FBI.
DC crossover pt.2 - set in season two of hannibal. After too many incidents in BSHCI, Will is sent to Arkham to await trial.
DC crossover pt. 3 - set post season two of hannibal. Will is recruited by Amanda Waller to work with / try and lead and control “Task Force X” (who better to control a group of crazies than someone who can think like a crazy?)
Marvel crossover - Will is a mutant with empathic abilities. After season two of hannibal, he is recruited by shield (or what remains of shield).
Star Wars crossover - A grey Jedi, Will is constantly on the edge between the Light and Dark. He experiences extreme Force Empathy / Telepathy / and visions. This has made him somewhat of an outlier even amongst other Jedi.
MARVEL
Tony Stark
Post endgame main au - he lives, more details in bio.
Post endgame A.I. au - before his death, Tony uploaded his consciousness into a secret server. There is now an A.I version of Tony. More details in bio.
Star Wars crossover - details in bio.
Detroit: Become Human crossover - details in bio.
Expanse crossover - details in bio.
Friday
Detroit: Become Human crossover - details in bio.
Star Wars crossover - details in bio.
Expanse crossover - details in bio
POTC
Elizabeth Swann
Star Wars crossover - Elizabeth, along with her twin sister Tsabin (renamed Sabe), served as handmaidens for Queen Padme Amidala. After her service was done Elizabeth decided to travel, giving in to the wanderlust she always felt. She traveled the mid and outer rim, until she was captured by pirates. Originally, they planned to hold her for ransom, however she struck an accord with her would-be captors. She joined their crew, becoming a pirate. Eventually ((through some plot stuff that I still need to figure out whoops)) she become Captain of her own crew, and then is elected leader of the Brethren Court.

Quill’s STS Catchup
I’m playing catchup with STS asks! Some of these are... from well over a year ago. Oops. ^^’
Thank you folks for all sending such marvelous asks, and I’m sorry it took me so long to get to answering them!!
@ettawritesnstudies asked:
Hello there! For STS: what is your favorite type of sea creature that you wanted to put in OSS but weren't able to? If this doesn't apply, what are your top 5 favorite sea creatures that did make it into OSS?
I have an absolute ton of cephalopods that I wanted to put in but wasn’t able to! Like the mimic octopus, or dumbo octopus, or cuttlefish? I love them all so much but I just couldn’t find a place for them. ALSO SEA OTTERS. I really wanted sea otters. :c That said, a few of my favourite sea creatures I was able to base sirens off of! Like the firefly squid, a speckled flying fish, a leafy sea dragon, several betta fish, and a sailfish!
@musicofglassandwords asked:
storyteller saturday!! who's your most secretive OC and why is this? Do you have any OP characters and if you do, how are they OP? Favorite snack/dessert of your favorite OC?
I think Dione fits both the first and second question! She definitely keeps a whole lotta secrets, and mostly because one: she’s scared of what will happen if the truth gets out, and two: she’s protecting others from the truth! The reason she’s OP? She’s just. A heckin’ powerful three centuries old sea witch.
And Xuân’s favourite snack is munching on dried nori! I personally love this salty snack so much and if I can get my hands on it, it’ll disappear in less than a minute.
@ccwritesstuff asked:
happy STS! If your characters had to choose, what would be their favorite games to play, be it board, card or video games! ive been playing a lot of three houses recently so... yah. kinda inspired or stm like that
I don’t really know many board games that existed during the time of OSS! I’ll tell you that Emery, from my new wip CIRCUIT, absolutely loves UNO. He wins every time.
@maxgraybooks asked:
Happy sts! Who are your most eccentric characters?
Oh my good stars. Pretty much EVERY one of my characters is super eccentric! That’s just the way I am. XD I think Captain Xuân would be my most eccentric, though? Based on the way they act, plus the way they dress... they love to act especially weird, since they love being the center of attention!
@geth-consensus asked:
Storyteller Saturday! What's the most ridiculous scene you've ever written? As in what's actually occurring in the scene itself.
Probably when my two characters who are over three centuries old stick their tongues out at each other.
@livvywrites asked:
STS!! Do you have strong associations with any of your characters? If so, what are they? | What are your mains favorite weather conditions? | What originally inspired you to write One Siren’s Soul?? | Do you have any other large projects planned for the future??
Ohh!! I have a bunch of strong associations but a lot of them are spoilers, because I LOVE foreshadowing through symbolism! Let’s just say... storms play an important role for Celestine~
Favourite weather conditions! Celestine: Dry as a desert - Dione: Gentle snow - Caelin: Light rain that he can run around in - Phoenix: Clear night, somewhat cool, perfect for a bonfire
And original inspiration? I mean... I was obsessed with pirate and adventure stories for a while there... PoTC, Our Bloody Pearl, Treasure Planet? Plus then there was all the ocean stuff I was doing in biology at the time. ^^
And I have CIRCUIT and The Mirror’s Rifts that I’m also working on!
@ditzysworld asked:
Storyteller saturdayyy!!!! what colours do you associate with your main OCs and why?-ditzysworld
OH STARS. I love colours so much!!! I won’t explain why because that tends to be spoilerish, or really obvious!
Celestine: Dark blue, celestine blue, maroon.
Dione: Inky black, deep brown, pale green, vivid leaf green.
Caelin: Browns, beiges, dark blue.
Phoenix: RED. BRILLIANT RED.
@evelyns-spilled-tea asked:
Oh shoot it's that time already; Happy Storyteller Saturday! What're the differences between your characters and the idealized versions of themselves they wish they could be?
Celestine wishes she could get rid of her stupid fear.
Dione wishes she could be less of a coward, and could make up for the mistakes she did in the past. Also, she wishes she could control her temper.
Caelin wishes he would be less useless and oblivious.
Phoenix wishes she could be less scary.
@lordkingsmith asked:
story teller saturday trying again lol: what symbolism shows up in your works and what's your favorite to write about?
SYMBOLISM IS A MAJOR THING IN OSS. Some main things to look out for: Storms, ice, colours, and flowers! My favourite thing to write about? Uhhh... I really heckin’ love writing about geology and gemstones. I’m a Rock Nerd~
@lottieiswriting asked:
Storyteller Saturday but a day late (is storyteller Sunday a thing?) What would you say is the biggest flaw of your main character, and who would you say out of all of your characters has the worst / biggest flaw that causes the most problems? Hope you don’t mind my late ask!
I’M PROLLY A NUMBER OF MONTHS LATE SO NO SWEAT, MATE.
Celestine’s major flaw is her inability to trust people! And Dione’s flaws, her selfishness, is the one that causes the most problems throughout the story!
@timefirewrites asked:
Happy Storyteller Saturday! I'm sure you know at least one scene where there's suddenly a clone/doppelgänger/etc. of a character and they have to convince their friends that they're the original. How would your ocs do that? Would they succeed? What's a dish related to your ocs? (Be it inspired by them, or relating to their story in some way or simply by being their favorite food)
alfkjsldgkjsdg I love this trope. I don’t think it pops up in OSS? But it does in CIRCUIT! But if Celestine had a doppelgänger: she would likely convince everyone it’s her by insulting people with the unique insult-nicknames she has for everyone. XD For example: she only ever calls Phoenix “idiot”! Poor Nixi. And Celestine’s favourite dish of all time is PANCAKES.
@ditzysworld asked:
happy storyteller saturday! do you have any WIP ideas that you never really ended up pursuing, and why didn't you? -ditzysworld
My first attempt at a major novel that actually got anywhere was Soul Tied! It was about shapeshifters and dragons and the chosen one trope, but with twins! Mainly, I never really had an idea of where the story was going to go, and my outlining skills sucked at that stage.
@aslanwrites asked:
STS!! Would you ever write a self insert? Which OC do you relate to the most?
I actually make a small cameo in OSS! The lighthouse keeper that tries to stop Phoenix from destroying their lighthouse is based almost completely on me~
And as for who I relate to the most: Caelin! Originally, Caelin’s character was a persona of mine!
@tragedyshow asked:
sts!! what would your MCs animgi forms be? Their patronus and boggarts?
I know next to nothing about Harry Potter, but let’s see! (I actually see their patronus and animgi forms being the same creature, so I’ll just be answering with two!)
Celestine: Magpie, a giant heckin’ tidal wave.
Dione: Stag, a giant fire creature.
Caelin: Puppy!! Pup!! He literally turns into a border collie in canon!! AND FREAKIN’ MANNEQUINS I HATE THEM.
Phoenix: Can I make it a phoenix? Is that allowed? And a zombie or other clearly undead thing!
@fair-folk-nonsense asked:
Happy STS! What are your character’s worst fears and how do they deal with them? ~fair-folk-nonsense
Celestine’s worst fear is water! Or getting close to someone only to lose them again. And they usually deal with it either by running away as fast as they can, or denying everything. :/
That’s 15 asks answered! Phew~ Tune in next time for even more. XD

30 Day Monster Challenge 2 - Day #5: Favorite Fish-Man
1.)    Abe Sapien (BPRD)
Good old Abraham Sapien. Been with us since the fist arc of Hellboy. Abe’s come a long way since then; met his mom, found his wife, subsequently lost her, reunited with his old steampunk buddies, got elected as antichrist after Hellboy and Liz, went into a coma, mutated a couple of feet taller, and so and so on. Into Abe is thrown a lot of bigger themes that inform us of the Mignolaverse’s overall composure. On the aesthetic side, Abe always brings the ocean, fish, and water with him. Lovecraft’s fear of the ocean, Verne’s fascination, and Melville’s awe of it are all wrapped up in Abe Sapien. In his past life, he even came from a whaling family, and he was part of a secret society of ocean-worshiping spiritualists. That’s the other aesthetic cue in Abe; Victoriana. Even when in body armor and running across the flooded remains of the Gulf Coast, Abe never loses a certain gentility. But as a character theme, more than anything, I think Abe represents tragedy. He’s lost more than anyone; Even Liz can still say she has her humanity. Abe can’t even remember his past life, and now he’s becoming a little more monstrous every day.
But through all that, Abe is still maybe the most relatable member of the BPRD for me. (Well, the superpowered ones anyway.) Abe isn’t really sure of who he is or his place in the world, and he’s still looking for those connections that root a person. At the same time, Abe sticks to the middle of the road, acting as the voice of reason even in unreasonable circumstances. He’s capable of emotional outbursts and faults, but for the most part, Abe succeeds at being a good person. Abe might be the strangest core member of the BPRD, but that he’s never inhuman. We don’t need to be super heroes; just basically good people are enough to keep the world running.
2.)    Davy Jones (Pirates of the Caribbean)
Man, I just love how cool this guy is. Sea monster octopus pirate; that’s a character description that makes my inner ten year old want to jump and down. Davy Jones’ whole character design is just so nifty; tentacle beard, organic peg-leg, crab-claw hook hand, a sweet pipe and a giant hat. Hat’s also important for the other reason I love Jones; plays into so many mythical archetypes. Costumers for PotC explicitly stated they picked Jones’ hat because it looked like horns, and they really wanted Jones to fit his role as essentially the pirate devil. As the PotC spans out, Jones is revealed to have been even more legendary characters; he’s the Old Man of the Sea that Odysseus had to wrestle to go to Hades, and Charon guiding souls over to the underworld. I’ll be honest, Davy Jones’ pathos with the lost love never really struck a chord with me. Bill Nighy’s performance of it was great, though, so props are definitely in order for that. And last, but certainly not least, I can’t not love a man who keeps a kraken as a pet.
3.)    Deep Ones (H.P. Lovecraft)
The classic. The first. Your one and only. It’s beginning to look a lot like fish-men. The blue-collar workers of the Cthulhu Mythos. H.P. Lovecraft’s fear of the ocean and corrupted bloodlines all wrapped into one beautiful, horrible fish creature. Nothing quite beats Lovecraft’s originals; he goes out of his way to describe them as alien, foul, and horrible. They’re another one of those monsters you can practically smell through the pages. I think it’s safe to say that half the other fish-men on this list wouldn’t exist without the Deep Ones. People are still scared of the ocean and the alien things living in it, and the Deep Ones give that fear a face. All the while they call to some primal part of us, an archaic memory that remembers when our species used to be fish, and they tell us to come home. Just as angels call us to come to God, the Deep Ones call us back to the sea. (Also; fat and hunchbacked Deep Ones only. I’m sorry; I wish I didn’t have to make that call. If it was up to me, all Deep Ones would be valid. But these are the times we live in, and sacrifices have to be made, preferably to Father Dagon.)
4.)    The Creature from the Black Lagoon (Universal Monsters)
Deep Ones lite. There’s actually a lot I like about the Creature on its own merits. It’s such a natural creature, as far as monsters go. It lives in harmony with its ecosystem, and its design really conveys that its simply a fish that has evolved into a humanoid shape. You can say the same thing about humans, though, and that ultimately is where we connect with the Creature. He’s also kind of charming in his own way; wide eyes, smiling face, no big pointy teeth. He’s practically a goldfish compared to the Deep Ones. And of course those underwater ballet sequences are still just absolutely beautiful. I think more than the Deep Ones, the Creature can probably be compared to King Kong; a primal, more innocent creature so strange that humanity wouldn’t leave it alone. Mankind’s desire to know more about the mysterious ultimately destroyed that mystery, conveying the paradox of how destructive discovery can be.
5.)    The Asset (Shape of Water)
We’ve come full circle now, I suppose. Centuries ago, sailors dreamed up half women/half fish creatures to ease their loneliness, and now we’ve made a half man/half fish to do the same for women. The Asset is pretty explicitly a makeover of the Creature from the Black Lagoon, even coming from a distant part of South America. There’s also clearly some Abe Sapien in there, which is only to be expected coming from Guillermo del Toro. This might sound weird, but I think the details I appreciate most are the spines and the fangs. I know this whole movie was supposed to be about how the monster was less dangerous than the Creature, but the spines and fangs just make it feel like a more believable creature.
6.)    The Creature (Monster Squad)
But before the asset, there was another Creature from the Black Lagoon reboot in The Monster Squad. This movie is just the gift that keeps on giving. I’d say that the Creature here is the strongest individual design out of the whole batch. He didn’t really do much in this movie, but he made one heck of an impression. Designed by none other than the late, great Stan Winston, this version of the Creature looks like its ready to kick ass and take names. I distinctly get the impression of a piranha from it, and you can just imagine a mob of these guys rising up out of the Amazon and pulling down a river boat.
7.)    Sahuagin (Dungeons and Dragons)
There are a lot of different fish people to choose from in D&D. Kuo Toa, Skum, Locathah, mermaids, Atlanteans, and the list grow longer every year. But my personal favorite are the Sahuagin; brutal, murderous raiders living in a strict tribal hierarchy, worshiping a giant shark, and prone to mutations. While most fish men draw from Lovecraft, I got the distinct impression that the Sahuagin were more pulpy, a bit more Edgar Rice Burroughs. Even their other name, the Sea Devils, sounds like something Conan or Tarzan would fight in a comic book. Their designs are just so cool; fin ears, bullet heads, shark teeth, long tails. Before ‘scary’, these were sea monsters made to look intimidating. They are the most organized antagonistic force under the waves, threatening everything from merfolk to sailors. Their goal? Nothing short of supreme domination of the sea.
8.)    Shark Giant (Bloodborne)
Another Deep One descendent, and this one hits like a truck. There’s a lot to be said for the shark giant on its own merits. It’s lack of eyes make you think that it senses by scent, and remind you of how a shark can sense a drop of blood in water a hundred miles away. There are, of course, the teeth, and how they seem to take up more space than there is for the mouth. The barnacles on its back are both a crest and a fin. Its paleness makes it seem to glow in the dark, like its bioluminescent. It really reinforces the feeling in the Fishing Hamlet that you’re underwater, like the boundaries between land, sea, and sky have been blurred. More than any other monster in the Fishing Hamlet, the shark giant is what reminds me of Lovecraft’s Dagon; a huge, deformed figure skulking over the mud of a submarine nightmare-scape.
9.)    The Children of the Thing That Drifted Ashore (Junji Ito)
The Thing That Drifted Ashore isn’t even really my favorite Junji Ito sea monster story; that would probably be Gyo. But the things that come crawling out of it are some of the first fish people I find genuinely disgusting, evoking that same feeling Lovecraft wanted from his Deep Ones. The Thing had apparently swallowed dozens of people that fell into the sea over the years, keeping them in its stomach. But rather than being digested, the people changed. It’s subtle, but you can still see it; webbed fingers, widened eyes, transparent skin. Inside the Thing, the people were witnesses to the abyss of the deep sea and driven mad by it. I’m reminded of an old version of the story of Jonah I was read as a child, where Jonah looked through the great fish’s eyes and saw the fires of Sheol and the Leviathan at the bottom of the ocean. The people swallowed are reborn, now children of the Thing, belonging only to the deep sea.
10.)    Otto Aquarius (The Venture Bros)
I just love this cute little guy. He’s only a minor character on the Venture Brothers, but he still made an impression on me. A half Atlantean that became a Mormon missionary, he’s just so earnest and eager. He’s an obvious play on superheroes like Namor and Aquaman, but they can’t hold a candle to this sweetheart. He’s clean, he’s polite, he’s socially conservative, he’s useless in combat; Otto’s just endearing. Dump the Asset and get with the real catch, folks.

Can i rant and ask questions about the entire KH3 finale?
--Wut
--Okay, sorry, seriously: Kairi spent all this time training with a keyblade, right? And i remember her being really gung-ho and up for holding her own in KH2. So in this one... she just has to be rescued again over and over? Um. Yay, her?
--And Riku--right--Riku was just as much a friend to her as Sora and obsessed over helping her in KH1. Sora meanwhile spent every game going “RIKU!” in various outbursts of emotion. (Sora being happy to see Kairi yet falling to his knees the moment he sees Riku again will forever be a hilarious meme to me.) Yet Kairi shares a papou fruit with Sora and neither one is like “maybe i should share with Riku who’s like 20ft down the beach rn.”
--I mean, at the end Sora wants to find Kairi (who i thought was turned to glass and shattered but apparently not?) and Riku just shrugs. Wut wut?
--This has nothing to do with anything but talking about Riku reminds me of Mickey, whose VA for this was somehow fine in Epic Mickey but horribly off pitch here i cringed so much. I miss you, Wayne Allwine.
--Alright, new topic: Lea is really weak. No, sorry, actual topic: Why does he suddenly care so much about Saix? Axel did not give two shits. The whole Org could burn in a fire for all he cared. Lea apparently was friends with him enough to cry over him?? News to us!
--Time Out to say i really just Do Not Care about everyone getting keyblades. Lea sucks at it anyway and his is a godawful design. Everything from the coat to the fire and chakram say “Axel” as if everything before hasn’t told us the Person and the Nobody are different entities. But the only thing different is how lame this person is. I get it, Square, you’re banking on a fan fave and trying to have things both ways. But...
--Wasn’t it also told to us Nobodies can grow their own hearts? That’s how Roxas could get his own body there. Didn’t Axel grow a heart? So... He has to be stuck inside a dollar store version of himself? Ouch.
--Lea was also friends with Ventus? Enough that Saix implied Axel got tattoos so he wouldn’t have to cry over a lost friend (unless that was something else i misunderstood). And it’s implied his “got it memorized” catchphrase (which i am so sick of by now omg he never even said it this much in KH2 and Lea isn’t even HIM) came from thinking his good friends just would leave and forget about him. But Ventus doesn’t get tears? Or a hug? Okay.
--Roxas all of a sudden cares (yay, but also weird, and just as suddenly doesn’t gaf about Namine) and we get a reunion but it’s very....awkward. First of all the add-on convoluted clone-thing Xion is thrown in, but also everyone is crying like the voice actors AND animators know it’s forced and can’t bring themselves to take it seriously, then there’s a poorly animated 3-way-hug that’s more new-football-player-teammates-in-their-first-huddle than anything.
--No one pronounces Vanitas correctly and i want to scream every time. They say “vuhNEEtus” or something and nooooooo stoppppp
--Is it me or are “Empty Vessels” creepy as shit? Stop showing me beige manikins on the floor like a dead body.
--Okay, so wtf was it Larxene, Marluxia and Demyx were supposed to be doing different than the others? That cutscene with the meeting on natural rock structures in a desert? Did they just pad to talk about nothing??
--Off of that: WHY was Vexen talking to Demyx about sabotaging or backstabbing, then the only thing they did was bring a Vessel to Ienzo?! Who tf cared? No one cared! Every single one of Xehanort’s extra pubic hairs could have seen this in front of them and said whatevs.
--(Was i supposed to know who that plushie was in Final World? Ventus did?)
--Did they forget to explain why 1)Sora got a mental cutscene of the words “Do you seek our liege?” when he talked about Roxas in Twilight Town, and 2)Haynor has X’s all over him and a Nobody protected him? Anyone?
--There’s so many KH chars Square either refuses to let go of or makes up for no reason that FF chars will never be seen again. After almost 20yrs of vague hope, that makes me one sad Turk whore.
--Quick sidetrack to ask why Hiro would make both Baymax’s fighters when he could have made the returned first robot body a healthcare companion for some person in need like Tadashi intended? They’re not Big Hero 7, ya know?
--The Caribbean world for PotC3 was too long, too boring, and every ship handles worse than my dad’s old gigantic 80′s Oldsmobile. (potc only had one movie i can’t hear you lalalala)
--But Ansem already tried to open Kingdom Hearts in 1 and it just revealed a bunch of light (and an actual door). When did that change? Why is it now an actual giant heart emoji that will reset the world like we’re Wolf’s Rain?
--You’re telling me after all these years and all this work, Mark Hamill just shows up to tell Xehanort he’s acting like a dick and he stops? ...Fair.
--Did Yen Sid die in the sea of heartless or...? Cuz if he was the one training Kairi and Lea, that doesn’t surprise me.
--They’re gonna end it like that, huh? Xigbar was really some big bad, backseat time traveler, original mentor to the Keyblade Furries this whole time? Maleficent and Pete’s mission could have been introduced and ended in that one end cutscene instead of wasteful moments throughout the game? This black box contains “hope” but it’s NOT Pandora’s Box? istg if they continue this in another side portable or mobile game with more retcons and redundant additions...
--Secret Ending: GDI game within a game Inception 20 dreams deep full blown art school student wetdream bs
--TIL there will be both free and paid DLC. Because of course there will.
GAMEPLAY:
--”When i get hit i want to be stuck in a 5 second animation or have no option to escape/block the entire time i’m repeatedly pelted,” said no one ever.
--I appreciate the extra content and fight moves/attractions, but omg if i’m not in a fight why do the fighting options not go away? Do you know how many times i went to open a chest or finish a time sensitive mini-game only for the triangle button to make a fuckin carousel or gd Buzz Lightyear arcade ride pop up uselessly instead???? WHY. YOU HAD 14 YEARS TO CODE.
--So many useless cutscenes! Why! Especially right at the end fights when they lure me in, i swing a couple times (yay, gameplay) then immediately into another cutscene! Each fight! FINISH YOUR CUTSCENE IN ONE SHOT THEN LET ME BUTTONMASH YOUR GAME, SQUARE! YOU ALREADY MAKE MOVIES TOO!

Happy 48th Captain Swan Day!
Hello Friends!
@winterbythesea is one of the most talented shipmates i know. She create amazing CS art and writes brilliant stories. Today we will focus on her wonderful stories. i fall in love with Given The Choice from the first read and i jump up and down with joy every time i see it’s updated. One of my fav of her stories that to this day has special place in my heart is bring back what once was mine - absolutely perfect story. I really hope that someday we will read more of Can’t Take The Sky, The Wicked Affair and Hogwarts AU - i’ll be so happy to read more!
Svenja, thank you for all you create, thank you for our conversations - not only about your perfect stories and art. Thank you that you share your talent with us! We are very grateful and we love you!
Her fics that I read and rec:
Multi Chapter
Given The Choice - Post-Neverland AU where Pan did not escape Pandora’s Box and Emma and Hook argue. A lot. (all chapters here) - missing scene
One Shots
Canon/Canon Divergence
Hidden Delights - in which David follows Emma, Hook and Neal on the way to Dark Hollow, and regrets his choices immensely when they meet an unexpected obstacle that threatens to get way too personal.
Magic Is Emotion - After Emma accidentally hurts Killian when she loses control of her magic, she decides that it’s for the best if they stay away from each other. But magic is emotion, and feelings can’t just be suppressed, and maybe it’s time to stop running… s4
tales of love and loss - ghost story set during the missing year, in which Killian hears stories of a ghostly lady in white who roams the seas in search of her lost love. But she isn’t real. She can’t be.
Double-Edged - Canon Divergence - where Zelena got hold of the dagger in Camelot. Separated from her family, Emma can do nothing except whatever Zelena commands – and she can’t remember what she’s already been made to do.
Heartbeat - Just a few missing scenes, basically Killian’s POV during and after Emma’s rescue in 4x02
in vitibus veritas - in which Emma, Hook, and Neal are unwilling participants in one of Pan’s little games while in Neverland.
Won't Say I'm In Love - Canon Divergence - set shortly after Neverland, in which the gang find themselves in the Enchanted Forest trying to defeat the Wicked Witch – and, in Emma’s case, trying not to admit her feelings for the pirate, until circumstances conspire to admit it for her
Love Is A Weapon - After Belle figures out that Rumple holds Killian’s heart, Emma is determined to get it back and save her pirate. Unfortunately, going up against the Dark One is anything but easy, especially when he holds the heart of someone you love… 4A  Canon Divergence (better than canon!) Part2 Part3
Wardrobe Change - Following a little accident with baby Neal, Emma tries to fix Killian’s wardrobe situation… with decidedly mixed results. s4
Pirate Skills - A missing scene from 4x05 - Killian helps Belle with babysitting little Neal.
Miscommunication - When David comes home to hear strange noises from his apartment, he can’t quite help jumping to conclusions…
bring back what once was mine - one-shot set at some point in the future, of Killian and Emma on a mission to save their child from the witch who kidnapped her (perfection!)
The Best Time - A battle aboard a ship. A marriage proposal. A captain nearby. And neither of them really have more time to waste. (A Captain Swan version of THAT scene from PotC).
A Name For A Prince - in which the Charmings name their son to honour a man who helped them fall in love and save their daughter. (A little fix-it fic because I still think it's weird that they called the baby Neal.)
Muscle Memory - in which Killian teaches Emma how to sword-fight, and they both explore this new thing between them. (Set in those six weeks after Elsa left. Because by the season 4 finale, Emma suddenly knew a lot about handling a sword, and we never got to see her learn.)
Pirate Diplomacy - A criminal mastermind and his crew runs afoul of Killian Jones... and his new sidekick. (A criminal mastermind and his crew runs afoul of Killian Jones... and his new sidekick.)
Of Princesses And Scoundrels - Emma gets one last addition to her team for the trip to the Underworld, and Killian makes a new friend. Because scoundrels don’t stay dead.
Cold Showers And Icy Looks - in which Emma and Killian have just battled a dragon, and Killian stumbles through some unintentional double-entendre as he tries to deal with the aftermath.
terrible and wonderful - Canon Divergence - where Killian remembers and Emma does not. Not really speculation, more just inspired by recent spoilers and the thought of Emma “meeting” Killian in full pirate swagger mode.
Love is (colour)blind - drabble
Traditions - Killian gets his hook stuck in the Christmas tree and Emma makes a joke about how he's the best looking ornament she's ever seen
a little missing scene of sorts set during the season 4 finale
Rain - CS ficlet (set during CS Movie)
Post-5.01 | 5x3 | 5x11 | after 5a spec | 5b spec | end of 5b spec | 5x8 | Post UW spec 5x21 spec - season 5 drabbles
Little smut drabble | Pancakes | Future | Post Underworld - drabbles
drabble - Killian’s longed hair | drabble - s6  “I like your particular brand of hope.” | drabble - Captain Swan + Charming + pancakes | drabble - some things - and some people - are well worth waiting for | drabble - what if Liam was in Storybrooke with his younger brother | drabble - As you wish drabble - Emma and Killian adopt little girl | drabble - set in s3 | drabble - "I'm gonna save my other princess" | drabble -  Emma and Killian trying to plan some sort of mission and Emma getting distracted
AU
Across The Stars - Once upon a time in a galaxy far far away… there was a princess who led a rebellion against an evil Empire, and a smuggler captain who was only in it for the money, and cared about nothing else. Or perhaps, he simply needed reminding that he could… Star Wars AU Part2 Part3
Hogwarts AU - Emma Swan has just started first year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry Part2
Motivated - scheming Liam and jealous Killian
Caught On Camera - Emma has tried to make the relationship with Walsh work, but when he all but rejects her live on TV, she finds a willing substitute in her bodyguard.
love love peace peace (and a little revenge) - in which Killian does Eurovision.
Can’t Take The Sky - Emma Swan and Killian Jones team up to apprehend an armed and dangerous military deserter, who just so happens to be Killian’s brother. Shenanigans ensure - in space. Sci-fi AU (I’d love to read more!)
The Wicked Affair - Killian Jones is a secret agent working for R.E.G.A.L., an international espionage and law enforcement agency. Emma Swan is an expert thief who has bested him more than once. And now, they have to work together. The fate of the world might just depend on it. Part2 (so good - it would be awesome to read more!)
drabble - EF AU smut
edit: @winterbythesea fics that i read after making this post:
you spin me right ‘round - A little Emma and Hook moment featuring sword-fighting, an overdramatic move with limited uses, and unexpected feelings. Set sometime in season 4.
Scars That Linger -  A little bit set in Camelot, in which some members of the court bring up old insecurities for Killian, and Emma finds a way to reassure him. AU in that Emma is not the Dark One.

I like that idea! Yes, let's kick whoever's ass😍💃🏻😂
Joke's on you, I already had that curse, too😂😂😏
Ohh, yess 😍 Unpredictability and a menchant for trouble, gotta love a good anti-hero/villian/sociopath/psychopath😉😂
Yup, same🙈
😖😫 Sleep's important😭
Ohh, I'll check it out later than😍 The title sounds cool tho!😁 And lol, yeah, very useful🤔
Hmm, not sure, I mean, their canon selves would work, too, but making them a twisted version of a fairy tale sounds really cool, too🤔🤔😍🙈 And there are so many tales to choose from, like they could be Flynn&Rapunzel or Pirates or Princes(s) or ohh a version of PotC's Will and Elizabeth or ohhh do you know Hans Christian Anderson's "The Snow Queen"? Kara could be the girl who's searching for her friend/love and Mon could be the boy who got infected by the mirror or something🤔🤔 It would need a cool twist tho (like they did with Peter Pan being the bad guy)🤔 Or Ohhh, one could even combine stuff (kinda like Rumplestilskin also being the Beast)🤔😍🙈
Yess, best cousins forever😍😍💃🏻💃🏻😉😂
Yeah, well, I've been told it's romance, so I wouldn't watch or read it anyway 🤷🏻‍♀️😅 Ohhh, a Regency AU?😱😍 Tell me more!
...Sorry, I should have clarified: I meant more duets WITH her husband😂😂🙈🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️
Yuup and Yeah, their love really got screwed with...😖😫
Well, depends on how you define "know"😅 I mean, I recognize that particular song's chorus, so I have heard it before (don't even ask me where, I am shit at remembering the names of songs or their singers or even where I have heard the songs😅🙈), but I wouldn't have known the song just by reading the name and I have no idea if I know any of their other songs🙈😅 (But ohhhh, WHAT?!?! A pic-set of Kara as Penelope and Mon as Odysseus?!?😍😍😍😱😱😍😍)
Ehh, pretty sure I have watched Top Gun, but it's SO long ago, I don't remember anything about it, sorry😅🙈🤷🏻‍♀️
Yo, don't stress😁
Ehm, well, yes, in the show's finale she proposed to him if I remember correctly🤔 But the show ended there, so that's it🙈 BUT, funnily enough both actors played a married couple together in Warehouse13 (which has has Crossovers with Eureka), so it's like we saw their Alternate Universe selves married already😍😂
HAHAHAHAHAHAHA niceee, THAT Sounds like it'll be awesome for us and the chaos duo and absolutely terrifying for poor Kara (meh, just gotta deal with it😉) 😍😍😂😂
You too!☺
XXX
COME AT US BRO!
HOPE IT WILL GET YOU HARDER! HA!
Yep, more well crafted and complex characters, amen.
Flynn&Rapunzel fanonically fits them like a glow xD Pirate and Princess? Who would be princess here? xD Interesting idea, i think in the canon they were brother and sister, tho, and i don't think I could unsee that xD I had an idea once, that he was the knight who went searching for a princess imprisoned by a dragon. And when he came into teh cave he saw the Princess aka Lena, scolding the big golden dragon, who was somehow enslaved by the princess magic and forced to kill the knights and other people to gather their gold, jewels etc. Mon-El maybe not kills, but hits Lena head and frees the dragon who turns into a girl aka Kara. They escape together and.. no idea what else xD
Yes, it's, how i call it, RAGING romance.
Well I have a few ideas.
Mon cames back from some abroad war (in colonies?), while being considered as dead. His fortune kind of ruined, his parents and older brother dead etc. While Kara's desparate to avoid clutches of some asshole, horrible lord. So she comes to Mon adn asks him to marry her, because he needs money and she needs protection (her father is dead, dunno).
He is part of secret intelligence on some very important secret mission and on some ball, in the library is attacked by two assasins. He fights back but is almost killed, while suddenly one of them is hit in the head by Kara with a fire poker - she was hidding in the library because she hates balls. Anyway, becasue of that she is thrown into the whole big scheme and helps him but is also put in danger. So, day end kindapped, had to spent whole night alone in some remote place. Nothing happens but she is compromised. And because her status is not so good (her parents are dead, she doesn't have money, she is sustained by her uncle who is NOT happy about it all). Also, Mon-el is engaged to Miss Imra Arden, but the first thing he does when they come back, he ends the relationship with her and asks Kara to marry him. She of course refuses, because, she doesn't want him to marry her because obligation, even if it means she stays compromised and with no chances for marriage. And i have thet nice scene in my head, where he comes to her place, while Jeremiah bascially screams at her for the shame she put on their name (they know Mon is engaged to Imra who is high and mighty and it seems they are in love blah blah,). He asks them if he can talk to Kara in private, he asks her to marry him, she says no while rambling about Imra etc, he rolls his eyes, cups her face in his hands kissed her to shut her up and says he broke up with imra, because she is the one who he loves and he loves her since she hit the assasin's head. She agrees and I have no other ideas what next, lol
Dunno, making them child enemies but when they meet years later, spark flies?
Ok, that explains a lot. Kind of think you have heard it in some anime fan vid xD
Ok, ok, personally i have seen this movie like 10 times because they love to play it in the tv here and I liked the soundtrack very much.
...now you gave me empty hope for MW playing married couple somewhere...
Can't wait for the next arc xD
Stay safe!

Hey there! What's your own version on what should be in the locker scene aside of Jack killing his 'good self' to make it far more darker than it was? (Because I am so curious about it especially it is one of my favorite scenes in AWE)
Tumblr media
yES okay so I have a few different answers to this question tbh
firstly, I needed what was in the original script:
Tumblr media
and this is where I think, sometime between the script originally being written and the scene being filmed, the whole thing became significantly tamer and more comedic. the whole idea is that each individual Jack clone represents an ‘extreme’ ( either of emotion, or feeling, or some kind of motif or theme important to Jack ) – this is what Johnny says in the bts when he talks about ‘splitting Captain Jack up like a pie.’ it’s taking him apart and giving us an insight into his psyche, but then it ends up being padded out with the really obscure stuff like the whole chicken thing ( which I believe is a Johnny and Gore inside joke ), the peanut ( which is actually a Johnny thing and is pretty deep - ‘to a person who has nothing, a peanut becomes everything’ ), and the goat ( which I’m not gonna get into here but does have thematic significance ).
but my whole point is, with the idea of extremes and splitting up Jack’s psyche, there was so much fucking potential here. and we know full well that Johnny can act ‘suffering a nervous breakdown’ extremely well from Secret Window ( I can only assume he toned it down in AWE because disney film ) and honestly they could have easily borrowed anything from that clip and put it into the Locker scene and I would have been very happy ( obviously taking out the whole ‘he’s the serial killer’ plot twist lmfao ). there are definitely ways in which they could have delved even deeper into how Jack works and shown the extent of the anger and helplessness and fear during his time in the Locker. a scene where his doppelgangers pushed Jack into a position where he completely broke down would have been A+++, but honestly I’m not surprised that they didn’t push the character that far
also, tonally, it could have been very different. this is Jack’s personal hell, and considering how dark the opening of AWE is, they could have easily brought that into the Locker scene as well ( they wouldn’t have done this, but it could have been filmed much more like a horror/psychological thriller set piece because, effectively, it’s one of the main characters being psychologically tortured ). I think part of the problem with the way the Locker scene is presented is that we don’t get to see the endless weeks Jack spends there after he first arrives. when the camera first shows us to him in this film, he’s already been in the Locker for such a length of time that all of his clones are completely normalised to him, and we are encouraged to laugh at him because ‘he’s talking to himself lol he’s completely lost it this time.’
and this is where AWE should have been split into two parts, because that way they would have had the time to show Jack’s descent into madness, and overall could have gone far deeper with his character in this movie, particularly his process of clawing himself back as the movie(s) goes on. the deeper stuff is only ever subtextual in the Locker scene, and honestly I would have loved for it all to be more overt and obvious to the casual audience
as for the other thing I would have loved to see, it would involve changing the Locker scene completely and isn’t my own idea, but one that comes from this fanfic, but I’m so attached and in love with the entire concept that I have to mention it here. the actual chapter itself is Jack/Elizabeth heavy, but honestly the entire thing works even without the ship context because it takes the Captain Jack Sparrow featured on the Disneyland ride – you know, that part where he’s sat atop a golden throne and surrounded by treasure.
in summary, Elizabeth is tasked with searching the Locker for Jack, and comes face to face with that glorious specimen of pirate we see on the potc ride: the facade. he’s exactly as he should be, seemingly unaffected by his time in the Locker, and Elizabeth has to both resist and look beyond the Jack standing in front of her and approach another door, inside of which is the real Jack, bloodied and broken after everything he’s gone through. I just think th=hat whole scene symbolic of how much Jack is at war between the pirate and the good man, the facade and the human, the selfish and the selfless, and I adore it tbh

Pirates of the Caribbean 5
I just got back from seeing Dead Men Tell No Tales.  I have thoughts.  Quite a few of them, actually.
I should preface this review by giving a bit of background on my involvement with this franchise.  I saw the first PotC movie in the theater seven times.  I saw Dead Man’s Chest three or four times and loved it.  I saw At World’s End exactly once, hated it with the passion of a thousand burning suns, and never saw it again.
I was--and am--a hardcore Sparrabeth shipper.  The canon status of Willabeth only explains part of my disillusionment with the franchise, however.  My biggest problem was how Elizabeth had an amazing character arc over three films, going from a prim-and-proper governor’s daughter to the ass-kicking Pirate King, pursuing her dreams in defiance of society’s expectations, outwitting both the EITC and legendary pirates, leading an armada in battle...and then had it all stripped away at the end of the third movie, where she is left literally barefoot and pregnant to wait for her man to come back.  I was--and am--livid.  I felt betrayed, both as a fan and a feminist, to see one of my favorite characters do a 180 like that.
So I have very strong feelings about these movies.  I’ve tried to get over it in the years since AWE, with limited success.  Against my better judgment I did see On Stranger Tides in the theater, and thought it was mediocre.  Since Elizabeth wasn’t involved I could just ignore its existence, for the most part.
Then the fifth movie was announced, and Will was going to be in it.  I had hoped that maybe, just maybe they could try to rectify some of the mistakes (read: character assassination) of the past.
They didn’t.  But they still came up with a pretty good movie.  Honestly, I’d even give Dead Men Tell No Tales four stars out of five.  I was riveted to the screen for most of it, and it was thrilling to hear the theme music and see the familiar faces.  It was exciting and entertaining, the special effects were impressive, and there were some good laughs.  Plus, zombie sharks!
Do I have issues with parts of it?  Yeah.  And I’m going to ramble at length.
**** MAJOR POTC: DEAD MEN TELL NO TALES SPOILERS BELOW ****
Sequel creep is definitely at work, where each installment has to be bigger and zanier than the last.  The gags are broader, the willing suspension of disbelief gets even more strained, the stakes are higher, and it becomes almost like a Saturday morning cartoon version of itself.
Thinking back to CotBP, we had to buy into the curse turning Barbossa and his crew into undead, but other than that the world operated on fairly realistic terms.  Yes, there was movie logic involved as far as coincidences, travel times, fast wound recovery, and all that, but it still felt more or less like the real world.  Stakes got higher with each sequel, until we have whatever the hell that “bank robbery” was in DMTNT.
Don’t get me wrong; it was an enjoyable action sequence, but it felt more like a cartoon than anything that could happen under the laws of physics as they exist in our world.  That’s not inherently a bad thing, but the tone was noticeably different compared to the earlier films.
Moving on, I was glad Captain Salazar didn’t have that slurpy, blood-drooling voice through the entire film.  When I first heard that in the early trailer I was both grossed out, and concerned that he would be hard to understand.  Instead it was just that one scene, and he spoke normally the rest of the time.  He was a great villain, from his badass and scary entrance through to his delightfully ironic death.  He was genuinely threatening, which was kind of surprising considering the cartoony feel of some of the action scenes.  Javier Bardem killed it.  Thumbs up to him!
The legend surrounding the trident, and the map to find it, seemed cool until you thought about it for more than two seconds, and then it didn’t really make any sense.  Calypso is the Sea Goddess in this universe, so where did Poseidon come in?  How can his trident override curses that she put in place?  If it could be broken by a single sword blow, how did it stay intact under the sea for (presumably) thousands of years?  I mean, sure, maaaaaagic, but...eh.
And why did Will get all barnacley anyway?  Elizabeth waited for him, so that part of the curse shouldn’t have kicked in.
And what will happen to the souls of the dead without the Dutchman to ferry them to the afterlife?
And what happened to Bootstrap Bill?  Did Will figure out how to free him and let him move on to the afterlife?
And if breaking the trident cancelled all the curses related to the sea, how did Davy Jones appear in the after-credits scene?  (Assuming it was him.  The gait, crab claw, barnacles, tentacley silhouette and the music box theme all pointed to it being him, anyway.)  I could almost buy him coming back to life when the curse was broken, but as a normal human again, not ol’ squidface.  The mythology makes no damn sense at all!
This review is coming across pretty negative so far, but I really did enjoy the movie.  I thought it was much better than OST, and felt like a return to the original vibe of the series.  I thoroughly enjoyed watching (almost) every minute of it, and I left the theater grinning and humming the theme music.  As a summer popcorn movie, it’s pretty great.  It’s just when the adrenaline wears off and I start thinking and analyzing that I see the issues.  And, like I said, I have a long history with this franchise, so overthinking it is what I do.
There were definitely some surprises, although I saw a couple of the twists coming.  The instant I realized Carina was Hector’s daughter, I was like, “Well, he’s going to die saving her somehow.”  And I was right.  It was sad (and that damn monkey gave me more feels than any creepy little primate has a right to), but at the same time I’m delighted at how his character grew into so, so much more than he was originally planned to be.  He was supposed to be a one-shot villain in CotBP, but Geoffrey Rush is so damn awesome, and he and Johnny Depp brainstormed a history between their characters, decided his first name was Hector, and one thing led to another and here we are, genuinely mourning him in the fifth movie.  It was a worthy sendoff for a memorable character.
One of the themes that got raised over and over in the earlier movies was the idea that it’s possible to be a pirate and a good man.  Bootstrap Bill Turner was.  Jack is.  Was Hector Barbossa a good man?  I don’t know if I’d go that far, but he wasn’t 100% evil, either.  And he was a lot of fun to watch.
Henry definitely reminded me of Will.  He had the same wide-eyed earnestness about him, as well as the tendency to charge into danger because it’s the Right Thing To Do without thinking through the full plan first.  Elizabeth’s legacy is a bit harder to see, except in the first two scenes.  Keeping a secret stash of pirate memorabilia and legends?  Totally Lizzie.  Back-talking authority figures?  Yep, Lizzie’s genes are in there.  And later, in the jail, taking Jack’s ego down a peg by scoffing at his legendary reputation in comparison to the reality of a scruffy, rum-soaked pirate?  Also from the Swann side of the family.  So I think they did a pretty good job of making Henry his parents’ son.
I just wish we had more information on how he was raised, and where.  I always imagined him scampering around Shipwreck Cove and up the rigging of Elizabeth’s ship(s), the mischievous pirate prince.  Based on the house Elizabeth is living in at the end, and the fact that he was enlisted in the royal navy, I don’t see that happening in canon now.
When Carina was introduced I had a couple thoughts:
1.  “I wonder if she’s related to any existing characters...  No, don’t be silly.  This isn’t a fanfic.  They’re trying to move the franchise forward into the next generation.”  (Or not.) 2.  I don’t want to like her because no one can ever replace Elizabeth Freaking Swann the Pirate King as the best female character in these movies.  And that’s still true, but she definitely grew on me.  She had a fairly good balance of “smart woman who can take care of herself and doesn’t need a man to complete her story” and “too perfect to be likable or believable.”  I could have done with a costume that didn’t draw quite so much attention to her heaving bosom, but I suppose there’s some vaguely historical style going on.
Honestly, there’s a reason her backstory could have been lifted from a story on Fanfiction.net circa 2004:  those kinds of long-lost relative reveals can be a hell of a lot of fun.  Especially when you have Jack there to tease “daddy” Hector mercilessly.
I’m glad they didn’t have her be Jack’s daughter, though.  That thought crossed my mind, too, and that would have been...not good.
Pity Hector never got to introduce himself to Elizabeth and Will as the father of their potential daughter-in-law.  Awwwwwkward!  Bwahahaha!
Speaking of the dreaded Willabeth...  Jack saw them smooching in his spyglass, made a face, and announced that it was a revolting sight.  Same, Jack.  Same.
Therein lies my biggest complaint about the movie, and, as I mentioned above, it’s just the latest sprout on a tree of dislike that I’ve been nursing since the ending of At World’s End was leaked.  How in the seven hells they thought it was an appropriate, satisfying, logical plot development for Elizabeth Freaking Swann the Pirate King to end up standing around passively on a beach in a frilly dress and a fucking corset, waiting for the menfolk to do the important stuff, I will never, ever understand.  It’s a slap in the face of everything her character arc was over the first three movies.
“Sure, little girls, you can have adventures and play pirate for awhile if you want to, but in the end you still have to get married, grow up, conform to society’s beauty standards, put aside those dreams, and take care of your husband and children.”  Fuck that with a rusty garden trowel.
And here, when they had the chance to redeem that travesty, when they could have showed a glimpse of her at the helm of her own flagship, or holding court with the other Pirate Lords, or just simply wearing pirate-type clothes and carrying a sword, for the love of all things holy, did they do any of those things?  Oh, no.  No, they doubled down and had her be so passive that she didn’t even get to speak.  (Doesn’t that mean they don’t have to pay Knightley as much?)  Literally all she’s there for is to be a reward for Will upon his homecoming, and then sleep with him--on land in a fancy house that could have been in Port Royal, for all we know.  Any journey her character had is moot.  She’s back to square one, and it makes me want to throw things.
Oops, I was going to keep that rant short, and failed.  Oh well, it’s a sore spot, obviously.  I have never felt so betrayed by a franchise as I did when they did that to Elizabeth in AWE, and it still stings after all these years.
My ire didn’t even stem from my shipping preferences, although that certainly was salt in the wound.  If they couldn’t give us a series of movies with Jack and Lizzie, the best pirates in the world, having amazing adventures while flirting like they did in DMC, at least they could have given us a sort of open ending, where she, Will and Jack all sail in their separate directions, knowing that their paths would cross in the future in any number of entertaining ways.  I’m never sure if I should blame the writers, the studio, or the actors, or all of the above, but I would have bought, like, ALL THE TICKETS to see those movies.
But, alas, that’s not what we got.  We got OST and DMTNT instead.  OST was quite forgettable, but DMTNT packed a pretty good punch and I wouldn’t mind seeing it again.  I won’t say it totally redeemed the franchise for me, but it’s got its head above water for the first time since DMC, so that’s progress.
Should you see it?  Yeah, I think so.  If you enjoyed the precious PotC movies, or just like pirate movies in general, it’s a fun couple hours.  Just don’t think too hard about it afterward (like I did.)
