Writing Notes: Philosophy
Philosophy - aims to ascertain basic existentialist truths of the world around us.
The term comes from “philosophia,” a word that has Greek and Latin origins.
Philosophers examine the nature of reality by posing philosophical questions or problems that they then attempt to solve through critical thinking.
Branches of Philosophy
Much of the value of philosophy lies in the specialization and categorization of philosophical questions that cannot be easily answered with empirical data or scientific knowledge.
Scholars organize such questions into different branches of thought, although there are perhaps as many ways of categorizing the different branches as there are scholars.
Here are just 3 of the potentially dozens of branches of philosophy:
Epistemology: Also called the theory of knowledge, this analytic philosophy studies the scope, validity, and extent of human knowledge—in other words, concepts surrounding how we can confirm what we think we know is true. Immanuel Kant’s Critique of Pure Reason is an example of epistemology. In this work, Kant disagrees with philosopher David Hume, that our experiences and perceptions of things are subjective—therefore, our knowledge of things is not universal. Epistemology overlaps with many other branches of philosophy since human knowledge is relevant in other areas, such as the philosophy of language and the philosophy of mind.
Ethics: The moral philosophy of ethics is one of the oldest and broadest branches of philosophy. Ethics works to debate values of good and evil and questions where human actions fall on that spectrum. The ancient Greeks struggled with these questions as they developed their societies along two schools of thought—Stoicism and Epicureanism. Although these two schools, established in 300 BC, shared several tenets, they differed in describing the best way to live. Stoics believed that living a just and virtuous life was paramount, while Epicureans believed the search for pleasure should be the highest priority. Due to its broad nature, ethics is pervasive in nearly every academic discipline and overlaps within several other areas of thought, including the philosophy of history, the philosophy of law, and the philosophy of religion.
Metaphysics: The principles of metaphysics question our place in the world and the meaning of life and human existence. Metaphysics, like ethics, began as one of the main branches of philosophy in ancient Greece. One of the premier philosophical works that established the branch was Aristotle’s Physics. In exploring the working mechanics of our reality, Aristotle created foundations of thought that became important to western institutions and religions, like Christianity. Aristotle’s work greatly influenced the thirteenth-century Italian priest Thomas Aquinas, who utilized aspects of Aristotle’s philosophy of nature to confirm the existence of God as the omnipotent architect of the universe. Metaphysics often encompasses or overlaps with the philosophy of science—for example, as scientists grapple with questions related to humanity’s literal and figurative place in the universe.
Historical Figures of Eastern Philosophy
Learn how these notable eastern philosophers shaped their cultures with religion and philosophical breakthroughs throughout the history of philosophy:
Laozi (born circa 570 BCE): The historical existence of Laozi, or Lao Tzu, is disputed, but some believe the Chinese philosopher is the author of the Tao Te Ching, a manuscript central to the philosophical religion known as Daoism (or Taoism). The metaphysical and ethical philosophy promotes living in harmony with nature and doing no harm to others.
Confucius (551–479 BCE): The teachings of this Chinese philosopher and politician formulated the basic tenets of East Asian societies. Known as Confucianism, the Chinese philosophy encouraged family loyalty, ancestral appreciation, and education—concepts that remain important to modern Chinese traditions.
Siddhartha Gautama (born in fifth century BCE): Historians and academics dispute the facts of the life of Siddhartha Gautama, also known as the Buddha. By some traditions, he was born into an aristocratic family and enjoyed an entitled life until he decided to pursue a nomadic and ascetic lifestyle. Over time, people attributed teachings to him on self-restraint, meditation, and mindfulness—ideas that grew into a popular world religion.
Jalāl ad-Dīn Mohammad Rūmī (1207–1273): A thirteenth-century Persian poet, Jalāl ad-Dīn Mohammad Rūmī wrote Quranic verses and Sufi poems that scholars still translate and publish today. A large part of philosophy in Rumi’s poetry is his set of values around love and religion. His philosophy of life focused on using art and self-expression to bring humans closer to God.
Historical Figures of Western Philosophy
Ancient Greek philosophers established western philosophy as early as the sixth century BCE. Here are a handful of Greek philosophy figures who created theoretical foundations and frameworks that future generations could use to question their own complex societies:
Socrates (470–399 BCE): The Athenian philosopher Socrates is credited as the founding father of western philosophy and the Socratic method—a form of questioning that scholars in multiple areas of philosophy use to pinpoint shortcomings in logic or beliefs. His teachings were never published but lived on through the work of his student, Plato.
Plato (428/427–348/347 BCE): An influential thinker of the classical Greek period, Plato is famous for his theory of forms, which questions the connection between our minds and reality. He is also remembered for his several published works, like The Republic, which communicated his social and political philosophy.
Aristotle (384–322 BCE): The philosopher Aristotle was a star pupil of Plato’s (another ancient philosopher) and went on to found his own school, called Lyceum. During his career, Aristotle collected and simplified the philosophies of his predecessors and contributed to philosophical work in nearly every aspect of classical Greek culture. He was the first ancient philosopher to analyze the concept of free will.
René Descartes (1596–1650): A French mathematician and philosopher, René Descartes is best known for the existentialism theories he put forth in Discourse on the Method and his statement: “I think, therefore I am.” Descartes’ natural philosophy and metaphysical inquiries, as well as his thoughts on the existence of God, established him as a pioneer of modern philosophy.
Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel (1770–1831): German philosopher Georg Hegel is best known for his metaphysical concept known as idealism. The concept dictates that the perceptions of a self-conscious mind result in the most accurate interpretations of concrete objects. His work had a dramatic impact on western philosophy in the twentieth century and influenced the works of philosophers Karl Marx and Friedrich Nietzsche.

Chapter 4: Red
The deal with the scientist would go down early in the week, on the day after your performance. Bergmann had requested for you to accompany Leon, much to his chagrin. As always, your handler relished in the game of politics, wanting to make life a little more difficult for the golden boy, just because she could. It was petty, but she had always done her job well, so no one really questioned her methods. If there was one thing Germany was well-known for, it was red tape - a lot of it. Bergmann used that as an excuse to get you to keep an eye on him. This ensured that it wasn’t just the US side setting the agenda, and she would earn her place of glory if the mission was successful. It had to be.
Ever since the dreadful confession you had with Leon, you focused on the lead up to the performance, distancing yourself from the man as much as you could. Each question he had was met with curt, one-word answers. You completed your reports and handed them in without a word. The actions you took seemed to cause him visible pain, as if a brick wall was cracking bit by bit. You picked up on the nuances in his body language, especially whenever you shunned him. The way his eyes flickered when he stared at you, emptying out like a hollowed shell as he pressed his lips together in a taut line.
On the day of your performance, he wished you good luck, repeating the same words he had slipped you on a note back in high school. “You got this.” A timid smile formed on his face, unsure of how you’d react, but carrying a small glimmer of hope.
Until then, you had barely acknowledged his presence, but now you retaliated with a look of revulsion. How dare he play with your feelings?
“You’ve got some nerve,” you spat, turning on your heel and slamming the door on your way out, without waiting for his reply.
That night, as everyone was busy preparing for the show’s premiere, Leon had taken advantage of the diversion to do a reconnaissance of the place, based on the details you had provided to him. Channeling the whirlwind of emotions you had gone through into your movements, you danced through Silje’s latest creation, ‘The Rite’, a piece about passion, sacrifice and death. It almost felt like a ritual or secret initiation, as you rolled through the earth scattered on the stage set, muddied and stripped down like an animal, before being forced into a red dress by your co-dancers and given up as an offering to the gods.
The end of the performance was met with a resounding applause and multiple encores, as Silje came on stage to receive the customary bouquet of flowers, which she handed over to you. It was as if a huge weight had been lifted from your shoulders, as you made your way backstage to wipe the dirt off your face and look presentable again. You did it. In spite of all the trials and tribulations, you made it here as Silje’s star. But even then, it still felt like something was amiss.
Sighing, you exited the stage doors to enter the foyer, where you greeted the theater patrons and other important people along with your fellow dancers. From the corner of your eye, you spotted someone you recognized - a tall, young man, with his dark raven hair slicked back with wax. He was impeccably dressed in a suit that you assumed was personally tailored to him, and exuded elegance as he made a beeline towards you. Your heart skipped a beat. Of course, you’d forgotten he would be here. He never missed any of Silje’s shows.
“What a performance!” He exclaimed, his radiant smile causing his eyes to crinkle with joy. Cupping his hands over yours, he gave them a squeeze. “You were wonderful as always.”
“Mikkel?” You tried to feign happiness in seeing him, as a tinge of disappointment overcame you. No matter how much you tried to snuff out the burning desire within, you wished it was someone else. Someone whom you’d rather leave in the past.
“It’s so good to see you,” he remarked genuinely.
Suddenly, as if he had a knack for showing up at the most inopportune times, you heard Leon’s rugged voice. “There you are.”
You didn’t face him, but you could tell that he seemed a little out of breath. “I managed to catch the last of it. You were amazing.” His hand hovered just over the small of your back, wanting to touch you, but knowing he couldn’t.
Mikkel flashed him a puzzled look. “Mikkel.” He extended his hand. “And you are…?”
“Leon.” It sounded tense and pinched, as he ignored the offer for a handshake.
You stepped in to interject before anymore damage could be done. “He’s, um, an old friend from the States,” you explained, nodding between the two of them awkwardly.
“Visiting?” Mikkel questioned.
“You could say that,” Leon muttered, in a tone that showed the initial signs of irritation.
Mikkel appeared to have perceived this and instead focused his attention on you. “Well, actually, I have been meaning to ask you,” he began mindfully. “If you would like to follow up on where we left off that night?”
You felt the temperature around you drop to a negative value, as his words hung in the air in deafening silence.
“Maybe we could… discuss this another time?” You suggested meekly. God, you were terrible at letting people down.
“I’m sure now is as good a time as any,” Leon interrupted tersely. You could feel the accusing glares he was throwing your way. “Wouldn’t want to keep Mikkel here hanging, right?”
For the first time since the conversation started, you turned towards him, giving him a warning glance. “Leon.”
He tilted his head to the side, scrutinizing you with a bold defiance in his eyes.
“Sorry, uh- I’ll call you or something,” you mentioned rather noncommittally to Mikkel, as you dragged Leon away from the foyer.
Once you were certain you were out of earshot, you threw your hands up in vexation. “Seriously, what the fuck?” You hissed. “Don’t you have a job to do?”
“Oh, you mean the recon part? Yeah, done and dusted,” he scoffed, aware that you were purposely avoiding the subject.
“You know, it’s pretty rich of you to give me the silent treatment, when you seem to have moved on yourself,” he admonished.
So, he saw this as a competition? You shook your head disparagingly. “Mikkel was a date that never went anywhere. Unlike your mystery woman,” you pointed out. “Happy now?”
His features relaxed, though he noted self-deprecatingly, “You could have a normal life with him.”
What he said confused you to no end, on the one hand indicating that it would be better to be with another man, yet at the same time not wanting you to.
“And what if I don’t want a normal life?” You retorted, backing away from Leon as you spoke, making it clear that the talk was over. “Listen, I don’t have time to argue with you about this. I’m needed backstage.”
“Hey, wait-”
You didn’t give him a chance to finish. “You should go, Leon, before Silje sees you.” Leaving him with that piece of advice, you parted ways.
━━━━━━━━━━━
Back in the dressing room, you found yourself alone with Silje, who beamed at you with pride. “I knew you would pull through.”
Picking up a dark, champagne bottle by her side on the table, she tipped it into a flute glass, handing it over to you encouragingly. The sparkly liquid was mesmerizing, as if flecks of gold reflected along its surface. You’d never seen a color quite like it.
“It’s the most sought after one we have,” she articulated with an alluring timbre. “For special occasions.”
You took the glass, still enthralled by its contents, placing it to your lips as you drank the champagne unquestioningly. It tasted like a sweet nectar, warm and heady as it flowed down your throat and coursed through your veins. A brilliant light dazzled you and it felt like your body was vaporizing into the atmosphere. Then, you heard Silje’s voice in slow motion from the background, “Congratulations, my child…”
When you awoke, you found yourself back in your bed with no memory of how you got there. Your mind was reeling and you felt extremely groggy and unsteady, to the point where you were unable to shift yourself up to a sitting position on the mattress.
What on earth was in that drink? You wondered if you had taken too much by accident. Maybe Silje brought you home when you passed out.
Disregarding any further thoughts, you decided that it would be best to find sleep, as you had a long day ahead of you tomorrow. But even within the throes of sleep you couldn’t find respite, because the dreams came soon after.
You were walking through darkened corridors. There was hardly any light source, except for a blue luminous sheen that coated every surface, as if you were on an alien planet. Feeling the concrete walls with your hands to guide the way, you eventually came to rest in front of a set of crimson doors. Leaning your entire weight against them, they screeched as you pushed them open, the force causing you to stumble into a room that was enveloped in a thick smog. The cover was so dense that you couldn’t see anything else beyond it and it was getting harder to breathe.
Gradually, you began to succumb to a sort of tranquil unconsciousness. Then, you found yourself lying on a cold, metallic surface, and each time you opened your eyes, you made out vague figures of medical staff surrounding you. Surgical instruments, petri dishes and test tubes lined the counters near the table. As you couldn’t hold your eyes open for long, the images appeared like vignettes. One of the staff members in scrubs inserted a strange device with a thin needle into your vagina. The frigidity of it caused you to wince, and you felt a light suction tugging at you from within. Once they had finished with the procedure, they whisked the fluids and material away. You couldn’t scream, you didn’t have an urge to - everything felt so comfortable and numb.
The next moment, you heard the distant wail of a baby that got closer and closer, until it seemed like it was directly at the side of your ear. Twisting your head in the source of the crying, a child-like silhouette covered in a substance resembling tar crawled on the ground towards you, squelching with each movement and leaving black imprints in its wake. There were remnants of an eye and tufts of hair peeking out from beneath the slimy substance. Despite its grotesque shape, you felt a sense of connection to it, wanting to reach out and embrace it in your arms. When it was only inches away from you, your eyes snapped shut and you faded into oblivion.
━━━━━━━━━━━
Rousing yourself out of a deep slumber, you were startled to find that you were back at the dressing room of the theater, where you had celebrated with Silje yesterday evening. You immediately checked under your clothes for any signs that you had been operated on against your will, but found none.
Glancing at your watch, you cursed out loud as panic set in. You were running late for the meeting between Leon and the scientist. It didn’t take much for you to put aside the weird dream you had the night before. After all, there were far more important things to worry about right now, and there was a logical explanation for what had happened. You probably went a little overboard with the drinking and then fell asleep at the theater. It wouldn’t have been the first time this had happened either. The company had a tendency to revel in successful premieres.
Rushing over to the location you had been given, you met Leon’s stern gaze as he got out of the car he had been waiting in outside of the abandoned warehouse. He tapped on the window, indicating for the driver to do a couple of rounds before heading back to avoid suspicion.
“Partied too hard?” He questioned snippily, while making his way inside the place.
You mumbled out a quick apology, following him from behind. He was probably still sore from how your exchange ended last night.
From afar, an older man with graying hair and spectacles peeked out from behind one of the rusty beams. Upon seeing you both, he stepped over nervously, wringing his hands.
“You got the papers?” He asked, his voice was raspy as if he had swallowed sandpaper.
“Mm hm,” Leon continued to advance towards him. “Card first.”
The man nodded, looking behind his shoulders anxiously before stretching out his hand with a slim, white keycard nestled in his palm. Leon swiped it from him, examining it briefly. Finding it satisfactory, he pressed a large brown envelope into the man’s chest.
“Your new ID. Ride’s outside.” Leon motioned to the entrance with his thumb.
“Uh- right, thanks.” The man hugged the envelope till it was slightly crushed against his body, still hesitant to move, like he had something else to say.
“Look, uh-” he stammered. “With every batch, there’s a fail-safe.” He whispered the last word as if he was afraid someone else would overhear him. “It should be marked with a red label.”
After that, he scampered off, while you waited patiently beside Leon. “So, what now?”
“I’ll worry about that.” His eyes softened as they trailed across your face, etching every mole, every contour and every line to his memory. “You just get home safe, ok?”
Would this be the final time you see him? Anything could happen when he tried to shut down the base, but you didn’t want to think about it. And even if everything went according to plan, you had outlived your purpose. He didn’t need you anymore. You would go your separate ways. A deal was a deal.
You thought back to the compromise you had made together that night at the smoky bar, as tears welled up in your eyes. Regardless of the pain he had caused you and your recent standoffish demeanor towards him, you couldn’t imagine the day would come where you’d have to say goodbye to him all over again.
He reached out, brushing his knuckles against your cheek, as you closed your eyes, causing the tears to splash down. Wiping them away with the back of his glove, he spoke again, his voice cracking under the weight of emotions, “I should go.”
“Not so fast.”
You heard the unmistakable sound of someone placing their finger on the trigger of a gun. Click.
Your eyes flew open. A slender woman in a red, full-length bodysuit and thigh high boots had appeared out of nowhere, aiming her handgun at Leon’s back. Your breath hitched, as you stood frozen on the spot. This was way out of your league and you prayed that he was coming up with some sort of tactic while she spoke.
“Didn’t expect to be seeing you again so soon, Leon,” she hinted provocatively. “You never tire of babysitting duties, do you?” A husky laugh rang out across the space. “Or are you the one currently being babysat?”
“Hm, cute,” he huffed as he shifted his footing slightly, giving her a sidelong glance.
“Not a step closer,” she warned, adjusting her aim threateningly.
You looked between the two of them curiously, assessing the familiarity with which they greeted each other, even though their expressions were hardened and unrelenting. “You seem to know her well,” you discerned.
“Too well.”
Something in the tone of his voice gave it away, and like a winded blow to your gut, you suspected that this was the other woman that had been in his life in your absence.
“It’s her, isn’t it?”
Now was definitely not the time to confront Leon with this information, but you couldn’t reign in that gnawing feeling in your stomach. You had to know.
When you saw the pang of remorse that flashed across his eyes briefly, you had your answer.
“I hate to break up this reunion, but you happen to have something I want.” Catching him off-guard, the woman swiftly closed the distance and threw a roundhouse kick to his neck, but he managed to block it, though staggering to the side a bit.
Immediately, he drew his combat knife from its sheath, swiping at her aggressively to push her away from you.
“Go!” He yelled back at you.
However, you stayed rooted to the ground, unwilling to desert him to fend for himself on his own, as well as hoping to learn more about this mysterious woman.
Soon, they turned the warehouse space into a makeshift battleground, entering into a dance of lethal exchanges. Twisting, striking, and dodging, their movements became a blur, as they attacked and countered each other with deadly precision. Occasionally, a stray bullet was fired and you recoiled, taking cover behind one of the dilapidated pillars.
Just as you thought that the two combatants had entered into a stalemate, Leon ended up dominating the fight with a strategic flick of his knife, so fast that you barely missed it, holding it to her throat as he snarled, “Who are you working for this time, Ada?”
Ada. The name echoed in your ears, foreign and unknown, yet growing more intimate by the minute. You stole another look at her from your hiding spot. She was confident, strong and beautiful - all the qualities that made her desirable in such a cutthroat world. And you somehow understood why a man like Leon would have fallen for her, even though there was a dangerous glint in her eyes.
“So predictable,” she scoffed. “Always asking the same questions you’ll never get the answers to.” Cocking her head, she jested, “Who do you think, handsome?”
A sense of disgust started to rise like bile within you. A mercenary. She had to be one. And Leon went for her like a lap dog.
“Cut the crap,” he growled.
However, he didn’t expect you to interfere. “A mercenary? Really, Leon?” You snorted in disbelief as you impulsively tread out into the open. “Didn’t think you would stoop that low.”
A low whistle broke out from Ada’s lips as Leon shot you a withering look, both annoyed and surprised that you were still here. “I’m handling this. You need to leave. Now!”
“No, I’m staying,” you contested. “I can’t trust you to do the right thing anymore.” Folding your arms, you regarded him with nothing but disdain. “All of this is going into my report.”
Ada appeared amused by your rebellious outburst. Whereas, Leon’s face contorted in a mixture of rage, hurt and incredulity, “This isn’t the time to-”
In his moment of distraction, Ada tackled him to the ground, kicking him in the face to stun him temporarily, before hooking on to an attachment with her grapple gun, swooping over to you in the blink of an eye. You hardly had any time to react as she wrangled your arms behind you into a lock and zip-tied your wrists together.
You knew it was due to your inability to get a hang over your emotions that led you into this vulnerable position, but some part of you didn’t care. There were so many things that had been weighing down on you, causing you to make reckless decisions.
Leon got to his feet cautiously, his face bruised and bleeding as he raised his hands up in surrender. You had never seen him look this torn up before. That’s when you felt the nuzzle of Ada’s gun poking at the temple of your head and you gasped audibly, suddenly aware of how close you were flitting to death.
“Ada, please.” He sounded almost like he was begging on his knees. “Leave her out of this.”
She narrowed her eyes at him. “Keycard, now,” she barked, gesturing for him to hand it over to her.
Holding the card up between his index and middle finger, he flung it over. It sliced through the air and landed in her grasp.
“Good boy.” She smiled in approval.
Leon stepped forward guardedly. “Let her go,” he demanded.
“The last I recall, you weren’t the one calling the shots,” she smirked, referencing how you had challenged his authority earlier.
Before he could respond, she fired at a weak spot in one of the precarious-looking beams from above him, causing a section of the ceiling to come tumbling down. You shouted at him to watch out, and he ducked out of the way, but was now trapped by a bunch of rubble.
“Think I’ll keep her with me for a while. She’ll be useful,” Ada remarked languidly, biding her time as if the battle had already been won.
“Don’t worry, I’ll take good care of her.” She winked at him, while he scrambled to break out of his confinement, hollering that he would come for you.
As you struggled, she pulled you in harshly to stop you, dragging you outside towards a vehicle parked at the corner of the building. Opening the car door to the passenger seat, she shoved you inside, warning you not to try anything funny. Hopping into the driver’s seat, she set off at breakneck speed.
“What do you want?” You asked vehemently, while at the same time attempting to maneuver your hands as discreetly as possible to reach your back pocket, where you usually kept Leon’s Swiss Army knife. However, the zip tie was proving to be a greater hindrance than you expected and you were failing with every endeavor.
She didn’t give an answer. Well, not the one you were looking for anyway.
“You seem to matter a lot to him,” she commented. “Interesting.”
“But he still loves you.” What you had been repressing for the past few days spilled out of you without a filter.
It was Ada’s turn to eye you with skepticism as she mocked sardonically, “Love? Oh please, don’t make me laugh.”
“He’s fun to play with.” She turned back to face the road and shrugged, but you noticed a subtle reflection of sorrow in her eyes. “Though perhaps more suited to a naive, little girl like you,” she added bitterly.
You figured that this ‘heart-to-heart’ had hit a raw nerve, and both Ada and Leon were hiding more than they were letting on. Sitting in silence, you wondered how much of what Leon had been telling you was true.
Ada’s hands gripped the steering wheel tightly, swerving the car around before coming to a screeching halt. “We’re here.”
As she let you out, she made sure that you were close in front of her, every now and then bumping the hilt of her gun as a reminder of who was in charge. You stared down at the looming theater over on the next block. It was eerily quiet like a ghost town, with not a soul in sight. On the street, a lone paper bag rustled in the wind. Where was everyone?
“Lead the way,” she ordered, and you began to walk.

Hello, Welcome, Hi --
So given that this blog has been around since .... like, literally before the premier of the NBC show because I'm a maniac who saw it at SDCC - Liv has gone through a long, long evolution. Some of you (most of you) have been here throughout that time, but if you haven't - I figured I'd list out some of the more important bits of world building that I've done. Eventually I'll make sure I link this in some kind of searchable fashion, but for now - take a peak under the cut for your basic Liv related facts. Also bear in mind that I can flex this to fit her into non-show canon, and the whole thing is a mesh of research and script reading, as well as bits pulled from the initial comic inspiration.
There is no organization here really, apologies in advance.
AGE: 27 at the time of the pilot episode.
Parents: Georgia Aberdine and Jasper Winters. As best as I can tell, Liv was likely born when they were young, likely around 20-22. Jasper panicked and took off before she was born in an attempt to keep Liv safe, but he stayed close by. The pilot script mentions that he had all of her school pictures hidden in the mill house, so he was keeping an active eye on her - it's why the mill house was build in Atlanta.
We can guess - from info pulled from the pilot - that it's likely that Jasper attempted to block the development of Liv's abilities through magic. My assumption is that Jasper likely died within 6 months of the pilot episode, which is why her abilities suddenly start to appear. Without Jasper keeping that magic active, the block dissolved - hence why she suddenly 'wakes up' as John puts it. It is also possible that Manny put the entire thing into action himself, and found a way to dissolve the block and 'wake' liv up, simply for the purpose of kicking John back into action. This is unresolved by the pilot, but regardless - her abilities are unlikely to go back to sleep just because she's out of the picture.
Liv's abilities: While the pilot puts a heavy emphasis on Jasper's amulet - which Liv leaves behind - the amulet is not the source of her abilities. It simply focuses it. It's likely that leaving the amulet behind slowed things down some, as she's got no one to teach her how to harness the abilities once she leaves Georgia. But the scripts seem to indicate that Jasper was likely the most powerful psychic on earth prior to his death, which means none of that's going to go away just because she left some jewelry behind. Her abilities continue to develop regardless, and likely in a much more confusing fashion. If she goes back to Atlanta, and reclaims the mill house - it's likely she'd learn how to properly use them. If not -- well, god speed to her.
Her abilities seem to vary quite a bit, but I've always boiled it down to:
A. the abilities to see each layer of the universe - ghosts, demons, the worlds underneath ours, above ours, hidden from ours, etc. As viewed in the pilot - the more her abilities develop, the weirder color gets - it seems likely that she loses the ability to see color the way we see it. Things become much more gray toned if she's fully locked in. B. the ability to track and predict trouble via scrying, mostly by using her own blood to pinpoint magical occurrences. This does, unfortunately, require opening a vein. Or many. Magic always comes at a cost, her cost is unfortunately blood. C. She's likely to be a strong magic user - if anyone teaches her how to harness it.
The Mill House/Jasper: Jasper is heavily based upon Baron Winters from Night Force. Baron Winters is .... well, a complicated dude. Possibly connected to Adam and Eve, as well as Lillith and the serpent. His job, more or less, is to balance the forces between Good and Evil (Which is likely a job that Liv would have had to inherit from him). He has an immortal pet leopard named Merlin. Who may actually be Merlin, it's hard to say.
Does this mean that there might be a leopard wandering the Mill House?
Yes. At least if we're playing around in a more comic oriented universe. OR MAYBE HE'S THERE JUST FOR FUNSIES, WHY NOT.
The Mill House is also heavily based upon Wintersgate Manor. The Manor in itself is .... crazy. It serves as a gateway to different locations, time periods, and dimensions. It literally has a doorway to the Garden of Eden in it. If we combine our information, basically this means the house can be anywhere, at any time, in any dimension. It changes as it sees fit, and per the script - holds the largest stock of magical items on earth. It seems likely that Jasper was collecting items for safekeeping and holding them in the house. It has anything and everything you can think of, including a room that you can change to .... well, whatever you desire most at that moment.
Post Pilot: I look at it as two separate universes, one in which she stays put (because lbr, she almost certainly would have had they not decided to write her off) and one in which she flees to California. If she stays, well .... the mill house is hers, and hopefully John gives in and actually teaches her how to use her abilities.
If she flees .... well, it's almost inevitable that she eventually comes back. The pull would likely be too strong, paired with the guilt of leaving, and the fact that she can't contain her abilities even if she wants to. If she DOES go to California, the bottom line is that she'd likely be diagnosed with schizophrenia and medically institutionalized. And even if she's not -- well, there's a heavy dose of PTSD that comes with watching 5+ people die in rapid succession around you just because they happened to be near her. Furthermore, the survivors guilt would pack a wallop, and the pull to finally figure out who she is, and where she came from.
At the end of the day, her destiny is probably inevitable. She'll end up back at the Mill House one way or another. It's just a matter of time.

Watching Channel Chasers as an adult is.....a much different experience than watching it as a kid. It speaks more directly to me as an adult.
Like the special is a little over twenty years old at this point, which is the same amount of time into the future the time skip takes place. While I was nine when it first premiered, I am now thirty, the same age as adult!Timmy when he goes into the future. I feel like I'm traveling back in time and hanging out with my kid self when watching this film.
The moral of the episode while very heavy handed, is so important-the act of listening to each other, validation and communication. Timmy learns to listen to and respect his parents, while his parents realize that Vicky is evil. And that in order to grow up to be a cool badass adult, Timmy needs to open up his mind and grow up a tad. Yeah, Timmy is ten, so he has plenty of time, but he needs to reel in his hyperfixation so it's not to the point of life consumption or interfering with his life (his was Maho Mushi, mine was....Fairly Odd Parents and Danny Phantom lmfao). I too struggled with balancing hyperfixations and a healthy attachment to reality and being responsible.
I went through a phase where I didn't want to listen to my parents (11-15 ish), but thankfully I got over that and they've been my biggest fans and allies. While Timmy's parents tend to go back to the status quo, in this movie adult Timmy reflects on how his reparation of his relationship with his parents helped him to grow into a badass and heroic adult, further preventing a dictatorship from Vicky, and teaches his younger self to appreciate them more. Like they're oblivious to Vicky, but once dealing with that obstacle, they step up a bit.
Like Timmy in the movie, I'm proud of who I've become. I'm way more selfless, self-aware, considerate, level-headed and mature. I have a good career, decent enough health, and I feel stronger emotionally. Though sadly like Timmy, I am living in a future with a dictator wannabe running things (praying it changes for the better-which makes the fact that Bitch Fartman is a supporter of whoever is currently president right now makes it all the more darkly ironic and saddening).
In a weird way, although School's Out: The Musical came out the summer after Channel Chasers, I feel like CC should've came after canonically speaking, with the themes of growing up and the whatnot.
"You...can change the future."
"But if I do, you won't exist!"
"Sure I will. And I'll exist in a future worth getting into. You can do it, Timmy. You're a great kid. I know."
#shut up kelly#timmy turner#cosmo and wanda#vicky the babysitter#channel chasers#nostalgic shit#long post#long#the scene I quoted also hits me in the feels as right after Timmy is upset older him fades and then gets emotional. His VA's emotional#performance really drives it home#feels#fairly odd parents#mr turner#mrs turner

An introduction to my horrid henry AU ( part two )
Purple smudge AU
Friends and Frenemies

Margaret : Henry’s orders rival that used to be in a constant war of him. When they were kids. It ended after Henry’s incident where they stop seeing each other for years when they eventually reunite they’re still some what hostility to each other but they end up actually getting along and understanding each other more than they ever expected to . Margaret still a very temperamental stubborn person but has cooled down and started to mature more as she got an older, she is in a relationship with Susan.
Susan : Susan is a smart, witty clever ,woman with a big heart. She attends London’s premier school of fashion alongside Ralph where they became utter best friends often going out for a coffee and a chat very much the caddy girls that snuck about everyone around them kind of friends Susan is very intent on her desires and is willing to do whatever it takes to get them. She’s also a very devoted partner to Margaret.
Brian : ( tw for mentions of sexual assault ) Brian is an extremely smart man that makes incredibly stupid decisions. Being one of the youngest professors at a very notable high school that Peter and his friends go to despite not actually being that old compared to them is seen as a mentor figure. But despite his knowledge and respect from his other peers, he has made some actions and decisions that are incredibly idiotic . The most notable one is having a complicated and weird relationship with Henry’s dad Simon a man that he has known since he was a young kid that eventually develops into intimacy with questionable consent that makes him feel vulnerable and stupid even if ultimately it’s not his fault for the actions that are taken upon him but it is his fault for continuing to talk to this man But other than that he is truly intense comforting person .
( Also don’t worry, Simon gets his ass beaten later on for these actions )
William : He was a giant crybaby as a kid and still is now he’s also a emo artist woh post stuff on his my seen account. He doesn’t have many followers. His very few fans are intently dedicated to his work and finds it very interesting. He has a bright future and his love by his friends and girlfriend .

Al : One of Henry and Ralph’s closest friends since they were very little kids he is easily the most responsible person out of all of them. He’s a kind bro that is very dedicated to his love of sports but doesn’t do it as much as he used to and mostly sticks to being a, footy coach for a bunch of five year olds but he doesn’t mind. He’s also married to gurinder, which he’s devoted to and is a very stressed out newbie parent. Can’t wait for his kids to arrive but also terrified of everything that comes with it.
Gurinder : I kind of ditzy yet sweet woman who is very bubbly and social with an undying love for everything girly and cute. But she can be quite intimidating if you push her too far especially when it comes to her husband and yet to be born kids. She works for bills company and is a pretty good worker but is still considered nothing too spectacular to anyone there but she tries her hardest to climb up. She’s also a very kind sweet friend who is always there for you during the darkest times.
Avery : She was originally known as Andrew by everyone when they were kids but now is a trans woman yet still a bundle of nerves waiting to explode at any second from the littlest of worries. Has OCD and severe anxiety and doesn’t really get out or socialise with anyone outside of her boyfriend William but still tries her best. She’s a really smart book nerd who runs a blog reviewing literature.
Bert : He didn’t really say much when he was 12 but that’s very different. Now Bert is very much a radical left punk who is very intent on what he believes in from destroying oligarchies to the evil of capitalism to frankly anything else you can think of when it comes to that movement, but he’s a lot more chill about what he believes and compares to his comrades. He works in disability and age care he is very much seen as one of the kindest people working there as he loves to help out anyone he can but don’t let that fool you to thinking he’s a softy as he can easily beat your ass if the time calls for it he may be on the fat side but he sure devastate you .
Linda : Linda isn’t actually as lazy as people think, but it’s mostly because she is very ill and has a multitude of chronic illnesses even to the point of having a colostomy bag but she’s not ashamed of it. She’s lived like this forever and it’s the only way she knows how to live sure she would like to be like everyone else but it’s otherwise comfortable. She’s very chill easy-going and kind of a hippie or at least has a very hippie sentiment, Bert is her disability carer and they’re very close.
Nicola : A very strong and smart mouth woman that works as a model she’s very proud of how she looks and acts but doesn’t mean she doesn’t have a nastier side. Also Ralph and Henry’s neighbour which they can’t stand an offering have a very bickering relationship with she’s very noisy so they act even noisier she left her underwear in the laundromat. They leave there underwear in the laundromat. It’s a constant cat and mouse game with them.
Please excuse me for any spelling or grammatical mistakes .

In honor of the queapboot being cancelled, a collection of my favorite moments from it from memory but in no particular order
1. When Hannah asked Ben if he thought it was possible for someone to love two people at once, hardlaunching the idea of polyamory
2. Magic lying to a random government official by telling her that Ben could save her dead brother if she allowed the program to continue with the full knowledge that this wouldn’t happen.
3. “His wife, and Al.”
4. Ben and Addison breaking up and Addison being out of the imaging chamber for like half a season ❤️ allowing the side characters to be actual characters.
5. When we had a Very Special Episode about the LA riots and Jenn dropped the line that she “went to a school that wasn’t afraid to teach black history”. Notably, the next episode she did not know what operation paperclip was.
6. Ian saying they were better than everyone else because they were the only one who cares about Ben
7. The return of the evil leapers as like a concept. And by leapers I mean one guy.
8. One time Ben wore an old timey flight stewardess outfit and it was pretty hot
9. The season 2 premiere just being a suicide squad including a guy who’s crime was being gay and he comes out after standing on a land mine but they all use the power of friendship to save him
10. The season 2 finale being inexplicably amazing. Like season 2 was generally pretty good but the finale was GREAT. Also the genuinely legendary haterism of the seasons big bad was a sight to behold he was about to reverse flash it.
11. When Ben leaped into a woman for the first time and was really, really excited about having a vagina
12. BEN SONG BEING SUCH A #ALLY THAT HE INVENTS BEING NONBINARY

Why Miraculous LadyBug Is the Worst Thing To Happen To Magical Girl Genre in All Its History.
It would be easy to sit here and tell you all the logical reasons why Ladybug is a bad show. It has horrible pacing, it has low stakes, repetitive episodes, and a dialogue that is cringe worthy enough to get its own tiktok sound.
But saying that, would be beating a dead horse at this point. Everyone knows this show is a bunch of wasted potential, only made worse by a director who keeps thinking he created gold, when in fact he messed up in a lot of areas – particularly the fact that he’s a grown man who thinks he knows what little girls want.
I’m not here for that.
Particularly, because I can be quite forgiving to shows like this. I mean, they’re kids' shows! Meant for little girls, and I haven’t been one for a few years now. But I still enjoy them.
Why? Well, cause I’m a massive fan of Magical Girl animes. I love the glitter, the sparkles, the silly adventures with friends, and the transformation sequences! Even with all its flaws, I really like them. So, stories or shows that borrow from them, get a pass in all these things.
I mean, I have fun re-watching WINX Club, I love Star Vs The Forces of Evil despite its flaws. Steven Universe holds a deep place in my heart and She-Ra is…She-Ra is in its very own league of how amazing it is.
So, no. Be it a very dumb show or a very smart one, I can have fun. It’s very rare when a show with, you know, glitter, girly stuff and animals CAN’T hold my attention.
But, well, MLB failed at that.
It’s just, not a good show.
I mean, it could be. But the age demographic would need to drop several, several age groups just to be barely watchable – and even then, I seriously doubt that it would be good for young girls to watch it. The lessons it teaches are concerning, to say the least.
And at this point, you may be thinking,
"Why do you care so much about this show? It’s dumb and you’ve acknowledged it treats its demographic as toddlers. Why do you care so much?"
Well, because I've been here... for a very, very long time.
Listen, I started watching Miraculous Ladybug, back when I was in high school. Maybe a bit old, but, hey, a lot of unique cartoons came out around that time. (Star Vs, Steven Universe, etc). So, I was hopeful. Really hopeful.
Mainly, because I was here before it EVEN premiered. I remember it. The original PV was 2D animated and it had this vague Princess Tutu vibes that JUST I couldn’t resist. It was clear as day that it borrowed a lot of its inspiration from magical girls from the 90's, probably even 80's.
The premise looked similar enough to Kaito Jeanne, and Kaito St. Tail for me to draw those conclusions.
It had a dynamic very similar to Princess Tutu and seemed like a mix of silly and dark like that one was.
To be honest, I could even see hints of Sugar Sugar Rune with Pierre and Felix.
Not to mention, the animation was beautiful.
I will never, never forget that scene with Chat looking at Ladybug starry-eyed under the Paris Moonlight. That was so beautiful, a genuine touch of romance that rang so similar to the Magical Girl animes I grew up with.
I was thrilled, I was excited. I wanted this show to succeed, before even the premier had dropped.
This is all to say -
I never came to this show with the intention for it to fail.
And I didn’t expect nor want it to be ground-breaking or a giant of the genre. I just hoped I could have a fun time.
I didn't want subversions, I didn't want it to be dark, or deep. All I wanted, was sparkles, fun and a good time.
So, when it first aired, I tried to stay positive. I tried to like it, even when it had all these massive red flags.
I’ve never been a big fan of 3D animation, and especially not how it’s used in Magical Girl animes. (We all know the disaster the first season of Sailor Moon Crystal was).
But I swallowed it down.
The characters were different from the original PV
But I swallowed it down.
The background scenery was bland and generic and hardly felt unique.
But I swallowed it down.
I was here since day 1. I was here when Stormy Weather premiered. I was here before many of you were, and
I swallowed it all down.
Because I really, really wanted this to be good.
And I really thought it would.
But things should have been made clear, when they fucked up the one thing they shouldn't. The one thing that held this all together. The one thing that kept me here even as everything was burning to the ground, and I was too naive to realize it.
They fucked up the thing that started all this, to begin with.

There's only so much I can say on Twitter to truly express my feelings about the show Hilda, and how much of an impact it has left on me to make me the kind of person I am today, so I'm taking to Tumblr to write all about it.
If you don't know who I am already, hi, I am ReyGGTV, though you can just call me Rey. I like to make YouTube videos, memes, talk with other Hilda fans, and make occasionally make art. You may already know me from the Hilda Crack videos I made since several years ago, as well as some more recent big videos of mine like my comparison video between Aster and Hilda. I am 20 years old, and have been a diehard fan of the franchise ever since I was just 14.
Firstly, let's discuss how I actually managed to discover Hilda in the first place. It was 2018, freshman year of high school had just started, during this time, I was still big fan of another animated TV show at the time called Star vs. The Forces of Evil. I was a fan of that show ever since its premiere in January of 2015 when I was only 11 years old. Honestly even if I don't look at it nearly as fondly as I do now, to its credit, the show did most certainly help me get interested into animation as a whole more than any other show I saw at the time.
Not even like 2 months after I got in though, I was kicked out. Not because I did anything wrong, but because for a while, my parents had me enrolled in a school district that I didn't even live anywhere near in at the time, so once they found out that I actually lived much farther from them, that's when they decided to let me go. This was devastating to me, all the friends I made in middle school, were suddenly going to go away, and it was only at the very last minute, at the principal's office that I received this news. I was upset, literally everything was going great and they just wanted to throw everything away for me, in favor for me going to a school that was so bad, it caused my family to move to an entirely new city with a better school by the time Sophomore year came around.
But anyways, about 2 weeks before all this happened, I was in a cartoon Discord server, where someone recommended me to watch this show called... you guessed it, Hilda. I took a lot at the promotional material for a while, and put it at the back of my head, not knowing that I would soon revisit it not long later. Fast forward to when I was out of school, I had like 2 weeks in the beginning of October to just cope with everything. It wasn't long that I just became bored, and wanted to do something better, so I pulled up Netflix wanting to find something new to watch. The suggestion from someone about Hilda just so happened to come up on my mind, so I was like "Eh, sure, why not?". I put it on, and the rest was history. I knew from the very moment I finished watching the intro for the very first time, that this was about to be the show of a lifetime for me.
Despite that however, I did not anticipate just how much impact Hilda would leave on the work that I am now doing nearly 6 years after that very faithful day.
I guess the biggest reason why the show left such a massive impact on me right from the beginning is because of its main title character, Hilda. Look, I may be no blue-haired adventurer from the wilderness that likes to munch on cucumber sandwiches all the time, but Hilda at the time for me, was the most relatable character and the character I found the most comfort in when watching it for the first time. Just like me, Hilda too, was also forced to move away from the place and friends she was always happy to be with, despite all her efforts, all it took was one giant, to come and crush it all, leaving her forced to live a new life in a new environment she was not familiar with at all. But, she moved on. She knew that while this was not the ideal way for things go out, life always comes with surprises. But maybe, just maybe, this could be something that could work out in her favor. This whole becoming friends with other humans and living in the big dirty ol' city, could be the best decision she has ever made. And I think it goes without saying that as the series continued, it was.
This was a message that I desperately needed to hear as I was going through overwhelming times at such a young age, and one that I was so happy to hear and watch once I finally finished the first two episodes of this amazing damn show. It showed me that if an 11-year-old girl from the wilderness can be brave enough to move into the big city, be okay and make the best out of it, maybe I too, will be okay with belonging to a new school, finding new friends, and creating new passions for me to follow for years to come. Hilda inspired me to look towards a bigger and brighter future, rather than doubt the bad that comes with the present. For that, I am forever grateful for the creative and writing team of this show, for helping me go through such a difficult time in my life, and convincing me that even despite all that has happened, there will always be something better to look forward to.

I would be lying if I said that this was the only reason as to why I ended up becoming such a huge fan of the show for the next 5 years. Asides from the writing being so good it literally cured my depression. The animation, worldbuilding, and characters were just unlike anything I have ever seen with my own two eyes. It was simple, yet jaw dropping at the same time. Just a silly kid either helping a Raven jog back his memory, try and fight nightmare spirits or ghosts, or help Jellybean out of a scary situation in which everyone wrongfully accuses him of being a big scary black hound. Even if certain episodes of season 1 didn't always turn out perfect, I would always rewatch every single one of them all day for several hours and for several weeks. I had even skipped multiple days of school especially when it was raining, just so I can head to the living room, cuddle up in some warm blankets, with the heater on during the winter season, and just binge the crap out of it for multiple hours a day. This was just the show that I can always count on to bring back the happiness inside of me. Even when I wasn't necessarily having a bad day, I would still continue to watch it for hours because it just kept on getting better and better with every watch I could get possible, it was almost like an addiction almost, haha.
Hilda was the show for me, and I had no intention of trying to watch anything else.
It was also around this time that I started to also get myself more involved with the show's fandom as well, back when it was a lot more populated and not as niche as it is now. While I'm not gonna say that my reputation in it has always been 100% perfect, at the end of the day, I'm just forever grateful I was able to meet some of the most wonderful people and hundreds of fans like myself because of it like @hkthatgffan, @helgafolk618, and many more I can't list here 'cause most of them are not on Tumblr. So much so that I now have the pleasure of creating hundreds, if not thousands of people who are fans/supporters of ME all across all my social media pages. All because I like to talk about Hilda, literally all the time. And to those reading this who has ever left a nice comment on one of my posts, said hi to me on my Discord server, worked with me on a commission, even went as far as to make fan-art of me or just tuned into any of my content whatsoever, thank you. Your support has left a massive impact on me and what I'm continuing to do now. Because at the end of the day, it's not about any popularity points you get from just talking about a TV show consistently for 6 years, for me at least, it has always been about making thousands, sometimes, even millions, happy with my love for it that is the reason that I'm doing any of this in the first place. I love Hilda, always have, and I want to make people happy the same way Hilda did for me, all those years ago.

Surprisingly enough, even though I was already as big of a fan as I could possibly be by the time November of 2018 rolled around, I still wasn't really a guy interested in getting my hands on Hilda merchandise. I knew that the graphic novels by Luke existed, but the only thing I even managed to get for myself at the time was this old T-shirt I bought from the now defunct official Zazzle store they had up for like a few months lol

I guess that all changed when I got my first ever Hilda plush though when I was 15. While it has now certainly showed its age after nearly 5 years, I loved this thing so much lol. It wasn't official because official Hilda plushies didn't exist at the time. I bought it off an Etsy store from AngelinaLily, and I would literally take this thing out with me everyday to everywhere I went to and take photos of it, especially in the wilderness. It was my favorite pastime. My little Hilda, in the palm of my hand 😆. Hey, when you have to wait more than 2 whole years for a brand-new season, what else are you gonna do to entertain yourself during the hiatus?

I had gotten this in the mail right when I had just exited out the mental hospital because I was actively wanting to h*rt myself and potentially putting myself in danger of committing s*icide. Because while Hilda did definitely help me cope with a lot that I was going through at the time, there was still a lot of overwhelming issues I was experiencing, and my mental health was the lowest that it had ever been. This plush effectively, was a way to help me cope with those thoughts I had, which turned out to be a great thing because I literally couldn't be happier with it.
After that, I just decided that "You know what? What if I just got... ALL of the Hilda merchandise?" Thus... that now leading to my massive hoard of Hilda stuff, that I now have everywhere in my room lol

These photos aren't even all the ones I have!
At 16, I decided to write Luke Pearson an e-mail, thanking him for his work and how much it has inspired me to become the person I am now, explaining everything that I just mentioned in this Tumblr post, and at the end of the day, just wanting him to know, that his creations mean a grave big deal to me, and that I will always appreciate just how much of a positive impact it has left me. I didn't really expect anything to come out of it, but about several weeks later, he said this to me lol
"I just wanted to say thank you for writing and relaying your experience to me. I'm sorry to hear that you've been through such difficult times, but I'm glad that you're able to look back on those times and find yourself in a better place. And if Hilda has played any small part in that, which it seems like it has, then I'm extremely pleased about that and it warms me to hear it. It can be hard to know exactly what good a cartoon can actually do for the world (beyond being a few hours of amusement) which is strange when so many people devote so much of their time and creative energy into making it happen. But hearing something like this goes a long way to making it feel like something genuinely worthwhile. I hope things continue to look up for you and hope you're taking care in these trying times." - All the best, Luke
When I tell you I cried like a baby when I first received this e-mail from him, I really did, lol. Hearing this, from the man who made it all possible, was truly the most inspirational thing I could have ever heard. And I was happy, that he was happy, that I was truly able to tell him for the first time, just how much his creation has meant to not just me, but to soooo many fans just like myself. It was truly something to never forget.
Now I'm 20 years old, still talking about the same ol' dang kids show I fell in love with all those years ago. What's happening now? Well now, I am an aspiring film director and video editor who has been taking film classes in community college for the past like 2 years now, I should've graduated already by now but turns out, college is pretty fricking expensive, and I don't even know if I have the funds to try and even graduate by next year. Asides from that though, I am actually in the works of creating my first ever feature-length Hilda fan-film called The Ultimate Hilda Iceberg. It will basically be one of those iceberg explanation videos you see on YouTube, but with the original source of the iceberg being about Hilda, specifically a version someone made on the r/HildaTheSeries subreddit. I've had the idea for this Iceberg video/fan-film as far back as January 2021, with the current script having started work as far back as nearly 9 months ago. And it's still not even finished! Me, as well as tens of dozens of other Hilda fans like myself, are actively working on it to have it be ready by the time fall of this year comes around, right now as we speak! If you want to support and/or follow this massive project as more updates come around you can either follow the official accounts on Twitter/X (@/HildaIceberg) or on Instagram (@/theultimatehildaiceberg).
Asides from that, the biggest passion project I have for my career moving forward, is directing my own big-budget Hilda movie. Specifically, a live-action Hilda movie. Now now, BEFORE you try and cancel me and tell me that this is the stupidest idea of all time and could taint Hilda's image forever. Let me cook. I am a huge movie bluff, I know which live action remakes are genuinely amazing, and which ones just really suck. My vision for a live-action Hilda movie is to make it sorta like how Who Framed Roger Rabbit was. All of the human characters and outside settings are done with real people and practical assets, whilst creatures like Trolls, Elves, or stuff that would normally be done with CGI, be actually turned into 2D-animation, ideally in the same style as that of the Netflix show. Ideally, I also want it to remain as faithful to at least how the show was as possible in terms of story. Look, if there's gonna be anyone else who knows their Hilda best asides from people like Luke or Andy Coyle, it's gonna be me, just sayin.
In conclusion, I just want to wrap this up by giving a huge shout out to people like @littledigits and literally ANYONE who has ever done any time making this fantastic and wonderful show (I couldn't think of anyone else to tag so I only tagged you Meg so sorry if that bothers you 😅). As this post has indicated several times, this show, has really made the best kind of impact in my life and I'm forever grateful to the creator Luke, the directors Andy Coyle, Megan, etc, the voice actors, artists, editors, composers, everyone who has ever had a part in making this amazing show just, please let me hug you. While I may not have been as enthusiastic with the show's third season overall as I wanted to in my opinion, Hilda will always have a soft spot in my heart, for years and years to come, for just how much it truly inspired me, to not just not only being able to have the luxury to do the things I love to do now, but do so in a way that has made, and hopefully will continue to make thousands, hundreds of thousands if not millions of people happy, because of the love that I will continue to have for this very show. Just because a show is small, doesn't mean it can't leave big enough impacts on people for the better ❤️

in my headcanon (sort of building on a post i wrote months and months ago), niles and cc welcomed twin girls after moving back to new york from california. west coast life didn't agree with them. i go back and forth on what to name them, but currently we're (me, niles, and cc) on fiona and flora. fifi and flo to niles, which makes cc roll her eyes. marriage and parenthood hasn't relaxed her one iota; any signs of softening is actually her surrendering for her sanity's sake. "be the river, cc, be the fucking river," she says to herself at least a dozen times a day.
when they are eight, they discover harry potter and become obsessed. it's the 00s so it makes sense as HP was EVERYWHERE. cc feels her sanity slipping as she can't escape it. even when she goes to work, she finds a golden snitch in her briefcase and a bertie botts every flavour bean in her bra. somehow. she suffers so (though years later, she actually has a hand in bringing "the cursed child" to the stage. apparently, she was always a bellamort shipper, identifying heavily with bellatrix).
niles reads the books to them at bedtime, they attend the midnight premieres of the movies, and they wait in long lines for the midnight release of the books. fiona and flora INSIST their parents dress up with them for one of the midnight releases. fiona is luna lovegood and flora is the whomping willow, delightfully hitting anyone who comes near her.
niles is madame sprout. "what? she has her own greenhouse!" he responds to anyone who wonders why he isn't someone more...popular. when people ask cc who she is, niles rushes to answer, "she's nagini, can't you tell? she didn't need a costume." to which cc glares at him and sticks out her tongue. "there's that method acting prowess!" he replies.
one evening on the drive home from school (their hippie, crunchy granola, vegan, booze-free waldorf school, of course), the twins decide to do a test to see what their hogwarts house is. fiona is looking for validation that she is, in fact, a ravenclaw. flora is convinced she's a gryffindor. and no one can tell them any differently. but still, just to be on the safe side, they take a test that's in the latest issue of one of their favourite magazines that will reveal their hogwarts houses, allaying their fears once and for all.
this is a very important time of discovery for them; after all, this is an OFFICIAL test because it's in print, in their favourite magazine with a picture of harry, ron, and hermione on the cover. they will be able to tell their friends (the ones not relegated to reading only things like encyclopedias and dictionaries by their helicopter parents, that is) that a magazine has independently verified their anecdotal findings. they excitedly read each question and very mindfully choose their answers in the backseat. the car ride is going quite pleasantly, and most importantly, quietly when niles and cc are suddenly startled by a loud screeching.
"SLYTHERIN?! HOW ARE WE SLYTHERIN??!"
"MUMMY, ARE WE EVIL??"
one sounds aghast and the other, near tears.
niles opens his mouth to say something and cc cuts him off. "don't you even think about it."
"i told you they were your mini mes," he smirks. "you're the reason they've now discovered their true nature."
"can it, hazel." she pulls up to a stop light and looks in her rearview mirror. "darlings, it's just a fun test. it's not to be taken seriously."
"but mummy, it's in a MAGAZINE. that means it's FOR REAL."
"yes, mummy, it's for real," niles grins.
cc glares at him again. "you know, i think daddy would love to take the test. read him the questions and the answers for him to choose from."
"babs, everyone knows i am an avowed hufflepuff. diligent, hard-working, honest..."
"it's good we're talking harry potter and not pinocchio because i could use your nose to walk from here to brooklyn."
niles is affronted. he knows to which house his loyalties lie. but in the interest of calming the twins, he agrees to take the test. he thinks about his answers carefully and, truth be told, he intentionally chooses ones he thinks more aligns with hufflepuff.
when finished, the twins both add up the points from each question. as they work, niles keeps smirking at cc and she rolls her eyes.
"daddy, you're a slytherin."
his smirk instantly disappears. "what? are you sure you added them up correctly?? do you even know your numbers over 10??"
"of course they do," cc interjects. "i let them count MY money, so i know for a fact they know their numbers up into the millions."
he grumbles. "all right, then YOU take the test!"
"i have no problem with being a slytherin," she says with a calm casualness.
"of course not. you were practically born in the chamber of secrets," he mumbles.
the twins give her the test and she breezily picks her answers as she drives.
"well??" niles says as the work to add up the points. "what is she? snape or malfoy?"
"mummy's a ravenclaw, daddy."
now it was cc's turn to smirk.

Wind Breaker Episode 1 Review - Better Than Bucchigiri?!
As the finale of Bucchigiri approaches, I watch Wind Breaker and I realize that this is the delinquent anime I was expecting the former to be, but wasn’t met with it. Wind Breaker’s premise starts off strong with an impressionable main character with a goal to become the strongest. A bit typical, but at least it’s consistent with his story. Haruka Sakura (First name is Haruka and last name is Sakura) might have the girliest name ever, but he’s a lonely boy with a rather prickly side due to being shunned from others for a very long time due to his unusual hair and heterochromatic eyes. He fights because he believes that’s the only way he can fit in and be something other than a pariah. In the case of Arajin, he’s stuck with a fight-crazy genie, yet only fights like 3 times in the show so far (and four once the finale airs on Saturday). His schtick is that he wants to get laid and wishes to lose his virginity. Also, when pressured to fight, he starts getting toilet problems; the interesting fights in the show are all from characters not named Arajin. Look, I don’t mean to compare two shows, but it had to be done.
WInd Breaker is a story about Haruka Sakura moving into a new town and the first thing he does after moving in is to beat up scummy gangsters trying to hit on a lady named Kotoha. Sakura sees this and beats them up and as he does, he tells them to remember his name so that the weak can avoid him and the strong will come to him. After getting treated to omurice by Kotoha, she teaches him about what this town is like and why Sakura won’t be able to become the top of Furin High School. It’s because the school has started to reform into a place where “good” delinquents beat up gangsters and anyone who causes harm to the town. After another scuffle with the gangsters from earlier and getting help from his future schoolmates, Sakura realizes that what they’re doing—being Wind Breakers and protecting the school from evil gangsters—is exactly what he wants to do as well.
Just seeing a delinquent anime where the characters just use their fists for their fights is nice to see. The fact that Clover Works is the animation studio and the way they animated Sakura’s beating up the rival gang by himself was a real treat to see. Hot damn, they’re doing an amazing job from episode 1. The fight scene was the highlight of the premiere. If its already this good from the beginning, I can’t wait to see what future fights will be like. The music is nice too! I liked the soundtrack that the fight scene had and I also liked the opening song.
From the opening, there seems to be a large cast of characters, but for this episode, a few of them show up. Sakura seems like the textbook delinquent at first glance, but he’s a lonely boy who had been hurt from society shunning him for his hair and eyes. He’s used to misunderstanding, but it still took a large toll on his self esteem. He’s actually super adorable! Like when Kotoha thanks him, he gets all shy and his face turns red because he’s not used to gratitude. When she treats him to food, he starts acting super cute when the food is good and even asks if she does takeout. While he’s a great fighter, I do wonder if his past will be explored later on, I’d like to learn more about him.
About his hair, I remember watching a Korean talk show program called Hello Counselor where civilians talk about their concerns in public television. One concern I remember watching was about a mother who’s very young daughter had partially white hair and was worried about how society would treat her growing up. The daughter had a large streak of white hair in the front, so it made me learn that such thing does exist. It’s considered albinism. Despite this, Sakura’s design is mesmerizing. I love how unique his design is.
youtube
Kotoha seems to be the cool big sister type. I just hope she’s not his love interest because he’s a child and she’s an adult. It’d get weird given that Sakura might not even know what love is due to his loneliness. I do love how strong-willed she is. I just hope she isn’t the constant target of gang leaders because female characters tend to be that, especially in stories where it’s mainly male characters. Then there’s Hiragi and his posse. They seem like honorable people that the town loves, but I’d like to learn more about them.
The voice acting is amazing. Yuma Uchida really does show off his range. While he’s an expert at voicing tsunderes, I do love how gravely his voice is when Sakura shouts. It sort of reminds me of Yoshitsugu Matsuoka’s gravely voice, especially when he voices Inosuke. Kotoha is voiced by Ikumi Hasegawa. I normally hear her voice teen girls, so for her to voice an adult is a first for me, but I’d like to hear her voice adults more often. She has a strong tone. Hiragi is voiced by Ryota Suzuki, who’s another rising star in the voice acting industry. I’m familiar with his role as Kurosawa from Cherry Magic and the Wanima brothers from Blue Lock.
In my opinion, this was a strong start. I just hope it stays consistent and not stray off. I want to see the same type of action scenes presented in this episode. I want to see the main character be active and prominent to the story’s plot. I want to see growth and friendship too. Just give me things that Bucchigiri lacked. If you have watched the premiere of this anime, what are your honest thoughts?

the acolyte 2-episode premiere thoughts:
ACCENTS ALIENS THE MUSIC THE OLD SCHOOL FILM DRAMA STYLE THE VIBES ARE IMMACULATE
ignoring that fire in space lmao
VERNESTRA VERNESTRA MY MOTHER THE RETURN OF MY ACEARO QUEEN
yord is hot. is there anything hotter than a man who wants to do a good job. what is the point of a man if not to SERVE and have goals beyond the self?
sol is a really good actor. u think he got that squid game emmy because gringos know korean? passion is a universal language u xenophobic fucks (one of the first reviewers were complaining about his accent because they suck)
oh fuuuuuuuck that’s a slutty voice from the evil mask guy
episode 2————
I LOVE ARM. is that a bts tattoo
the thing about child actors is that they are forever good at playing wise spry children. dafne and amandla have such small moments but they ooze charisma and intelligence. it ranges from corny (it’s sw so it’s okay) to incredibly expressive and emotional. i don’t even get acting but they’re so good
i am really loving osha.
i like that pip doesn’t speak basic so i don’t have to think about it having a human consciousness. but i still love him
MANNY JACINTOOO. not even that mustache can turn me off.
i literally love all these characters
rice paddy hat sighting
the hand armor i love star wars
small small insignificant complaint. i almost wish mae had a different accent or dialogue maybe? just because amandla-as-osha’s tenor / voice and devil-may-care mannerisms is very unique. i almost want mae to be more robotic or just something starkly different in her speech since you know they grew apart from each other. episode 2 also just a little bit undermined mae’s lethality which i was hoping more for. when she tries to break the forcefield i was hoping she would eat her pride more but then maybe it’s intentional since she is still young (and perhaps still impressionable?).
loooove looove the choreography forget whatever the fuck i just said. mae is so hot. that is the most insane fit
yord your defining trait will be your unbecoming yord no
oh? manny jacinto character and his dedication to mae oh? i am very intrigued. be it whatever, i am looking forward to more of them!
all in all, star wars is BACK BABEEYYYY

A Future Return For O.W.C.A. Files? (Discussion):

A frame from the OWCA Files theme song sequence.
O.W.C.A Files is a 1 hour special that premiered on Disney XD November 9, 2015 a while after Phineas And Ferb’s “final” episode.
It was one of the possible spin-offs the creators thought about doing, but it didn’t really go anywhere. It followed the B-plot characters post Doofenshmirtz turning good which is a smart idea for a spin-off since most people tended to like the B-part of the story better while more were bored with the A-plot.
However, among the fanbase it is a pretty controversial episode. Some complaints are that Doofenshmirtz is too annoying in the episode, the character design isn’t great, animation is mediocre, the pacing isn’t good, and the existence of the “Bits of All Of Us” song which some found very pre-school-like.

It definitely could have used Norm or Vanessa to balance out the absence of another talking being while also toning down Doof’s annoying-ness over the course of a series, but I still think it was a pretty solid episode with other Phineas And Ferb level songs and shows the Doof n’ Perry action packed secret agent show spin-off that could have been.
Other spin-offs like a Fireside Girls one and Doof 101 were also contemplated, but out of many different show pitches, Milo Murphy’s Law would ultimately become the next show Dan and Swampy would work on instead, as well as the next Dwampyverse show.

But could O.W.C.A. Files still be?
Before the revival was announced the creators have always talked about how they might one day revisit the show in “the next summer”.
Since it’s starting to look more and more like the Phineas And Ferb Revival will take place in the next summer while also visiting other episodes of the characters in the future it is possible that we could see an O.W.C.A. Files like B-Plot in a future episode once again, especially since Doofenshmirtz might likely be good after he turned good in the Season 4 Finale and after the events of Milo Murphy’s Law.

Frame from Happy New Year (left) and Christmas Vacation (right)
Doof does return to evil in the timeline though.
When it comes to the episodes that Doof is still evil in, but take place after the events of the Summer, (the Christmas and New Years specials/ etc.), Co-Creator Dan Povenmire’s explanation was that sometime after the events of Doof 101 (the fall after the summer) and before or after OWCA Files (I forget) Doof relapsed to an evil phase again which is believable, but after the events of Milo Murphy’s Law where his new, less evil, destiny is revealed it is less likely the creators will want to make him evil again unless they decide to switch of the Dwampyverse timeline once again🫠.

Frame from Primal Perry (left) and Road to Danville (right)
Milo Murphy’s Law and O.W.C.A. files both proved the B-Plot does not rely on Doofenshmirtz to be evil for entertainment. Not to mention some of the most memorable moments of the B-plot in the series have Doof being pretty tame and actually working together with Perry to accomplish a task.
However, it still seems unclear whether the crew or executives will decide to make him evil again or not in order to capture the same charm of the original show. We’ll just have to wait for the next announcement of new details soon.
Overall, it’s probably about a 50/50 chance whether the B-Plot will be an O.W.C.A. Files like Doof n Perry duo fighting evil, or not.
Even if nothing like that appears in the revival, Povenmire did sign a deal with Disney to make additional shows for the Disney Channel, including properties for the Dwampyverse, which means something like O.W.C.A. Files could still be on the table as a future show.

How do you think they will handle the show?
Also, feel free to point out any details in the essay that should be changed.

Greetings, adventurers, I am Whisper - welcome back to the library!
March is Women's History Month! It just didn't seem right to let this month come and go without talking a little about it. We recently passed International Women's Day, which falls on March 8th. I didn't even realize, but all of my posts this month have been about books and novellas by women!
When I started this blog, I wanted to talk about books, games, and movies. So far, I've only written about books and little about writing. Even over on my YouTube channel. So today, I wanted to take a look at a few movies.
Women and movies have a long history. The first movie considered to be both written and directed by a woman was "La Fée aux Choux" (The Cabbage Fairy) by Alice Guy-Blaché in 1896. It's argued to be the first narrative filmmade! So, for decades, women have done more than just be pretty faces in movies. Today, I wanted to take a look at some more modern-day films that were written and directed by women - I'm sure you've seen a couple of them!
Jennifer's Body (2009)

Jennifer's Body is a cult classic, and one of my personal favorites! It's a 2009 horror/comedy starring Megan Fox and Amanda Seyfried. On the off chance you don't know Jennifer's Body or what it's about --
"When a demon takes possession of her, high-school hottie Jennifer (Megan Fox) turns a hungry eye on guys who never stood a chance with her before. While evil Jennifer satisfies her appetite for human flesh with the school's male population, her nerdy friend, Needy (Amanda Seyfried), learns what's happening and vows to put an end to the carnage."
I love this movie.
The film was written by Diablo Cody, who you might know from her debut film, Juno. She writes punchy dialogue that has a certain style to it you just won't find in other films. It definitely makes her stick out.
Karyn Kusama was the director for this film. Her directorial debut was a movie called Girlfight in 2000, which was a sports drama. I've never heard of it, but it must have done well! She won Best Director and the Grand Jury Prize at the Sundance Film Festival for it, and was also nominated for the Independent Spirit Award for Best First Feature. Kusama also directed Æon Flux, which I have seen, and is currently the executive producer on Yellowjackets.
Lisa Frankenstein (2024)

If you're looking for more Diablo Cody movies, then look for further! Lisa Frankenstein released early last year (2024). It's a romantic horror comedy starring Kathryn Newton and Cole Sprouse! This is one my husband and I went to the theaters to see, and it was so good! It still has that punchy Diablo Cody style, and such a fun story!
In Lisa Frankenstein -- "A misunderstood teenager and a reanimated Victorian corpse embark on a murderous journey together to find love, happiness, and a few missing body parts."
The film was directed by Zelda Williams, the daughter of Robin Williams. She voiced Kuvira in The Legend of Korra. She wrote and directed a short film called Shrimp, about the lives of dominatrices in a Los Angeles BDSM den. However, Lisa Frankenstein was her feature-length debut!
Love Lies Bleeding (2024)

Love Lies Bleeding is another movie that came out last year in 2024! It was directed by Rose Glass, who co-wrote the film with Weronika Tofilska. It's an LGBTQ+ romantic thriller starring Kristen Stewart and Katy O'Brian. It premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in January of last year, followed by its theatrical release by A24 in March.
This was another movie my husband and I really enjoyed watching. In it -- "Lou is a reclusive gym manager who falls hard for Jackie, an ambitious bodybuilder who's heading to Las Vegas to pursue her dream. Their love soon leads to violence as they get pulled deep into the web of Lou's criminal family." It definitely took some twists and turns we were not expecting.
Loves Lies Bleeding is Rose Glass's second feature-length film. She made her debut with a short film called, Room 55, in 2014. Then made her feature length debut a 2019 psychological horror film, Saint Maud. It was nominated for two awards at the 74th British Academy Film Awards. Later in 2020, she was named Best Debut Director at the British Independent Film Awards.
There isn't much on Weronika Tofilska's career. She's mostly directed TV episodes, including four episodes of Baby Reindeer, and has written and directed a short film called, Love Life. However, she is best known for Love Lies Bleeding.
Bodies Bodies Bodies (2022)

Bodies Bodies Bodies is one of those movies that took me by surprise. It's a dark comedy horror, which features a cast of friends played by Amandla Stenberg, Maria Bakalova, Myha'la Herrold, Chase Sui Wonders, Rachel Sennott, Lee Pace, and Pete Davidson. It debuted at South by Southwest in March 2022. Then was theatrically released by A24 in August 2022.
In the movie -- "When a group of 20-somethings gets stuck at a remote mansion during a hurricane, a party game gone very, very wrong ends with a dead body on the ground and fake friends at every turn as they try to find the killer among them."
The director, Halina Reijn, is a Dutch writer, actress, and director. She has acted in many Dutch films and TV shows. But she only has direct in credits on four projects, one of which is a short.
The writer, Sarah DeLappe, is a playwright. But there isn't a lot in her portfolio. Her play, The Wolves, premiered Off-Broadway in 2016. It received the American Playwriting Foundation's Relentless Award in 2015 and was a finalist for the 2017 Pulitzer Prize for Drama. It doesn't seem she has any other movie credits.
Fresh (2022)

I love this movie, and I'm not really sure why. Fresh is one of those movies that I thought about after I watched it. Something about it stuck with me and I thought about it every day for two weeks. It stars Sebastian Stan and Daisy Edgar-Jones. In the film -- "The horrors of modern dating are seen through the eyes of a young woman who is battling to survive her new boyfriend's unusual appetites."
The movie premiere at the Sundance Film Festival in January 2022 and was released in March 2022. It's directed by Mimi Cave as her directorial debut. The writer, Lauryn Kahn, has writer credits on a movie, Ibiza. Along with additional crew credits on The Other Guys and Step Brothers.
There are so many amazing movies out there that were written and directed by women. These are just a couple of my favorites. A few to add to your watchlist this month!
Thanks for reading, I hope you stop by the library again soon!

Angel: Revelations 3 (September 2008)
Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa/Adam Pollina
Day three of my running up to random strangers in the street yelling "did you know Adam Pollina could do this? Did you know anybody could do this?"
I mentioned Sylvain Chomet earlier, the French animator behind Belleville Rendezvous: I think these secret service goons (one of Warren's classmates is the Vice President's son, don't worry about it) are an intentional tribute to the gangsters in that film.
Augh, this art ! This art, yo!
Ok. Anyway. I have to get a hold of myself and talk about the Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa angle. Aguirre-Sacasa is a fascinating dude with some very constant themes in his work, notably queerness, heroism, high schools (especially fancy private ones), and comics themselves. His own superhero origin story, as it were, is that he wrote a play in which Archie from the Archie comics comes out as gay and attempted to put it on without any kind of copyright permission/licence/whatever, and it got shut down by the owners of the Archie IP a few days before it was going to premiere. This was in 2003, a few years before he wrote Angel: Revelations.
Fast forward 10 years from then and, via a writing stint on Glee (there's an amnesty for being involved with Glee, this is tumblr, you can't throw stones) and some comics work, he ended up becoming the chief creative officer of...Archie Comics. Where he masterminded a reinvention of the entire brand and launched Riverdale, the TV show that everyone initially laughed at for being a dark, gritty YA version of Archie, until suddenly everyone was like "wait, is this...good?"
To be clear, the answer to this was actually no, Riverdale was not good, not as such. But it was fun, and it was bonkers, and it was delicious, and for a while it was absolutely the craziest thing on television, with seven absurd twists per episode, multiple wild swings in tone, a season about an evil D&D cult, several different serial killers, I think alien abductions, Archie fighting a bear, tickling porn, Veronica's dad being a drug lord...I, honestly, at one time I watched a bunch of Riverdale and it was a blast. Go look it up.
Anyway my point with all of this is...I don't know. My point is, it's amazing that Aguirre-Sacasa also wrote this, it's fascinating that it displays many of the same interests and hang-ups, and he did a great job with it. Not as great a job as Adam Pollina, mind.
