Forever Yours 18+
Request: How are we feeling about Tim Bradford meeting his high school girlfriend again as he's on patrol with Lucy and gets all flustered again cause you're the one for him (like you separated ways as he went to the police and you did something else but are back now) and you just feel the same old feelings. Later Lucy won't stop making fun of him cause he's always badass and now you seem to be his weak spot. Next day you visit him at the department with his favorite food and he asks you out on a date which you gladly accept. Just some fluffy cute Tim, with maaaaaybe smut at the end of their date and he won't let her leave him ever again? 😊
Next week is my bday, so I thought some Tim would be adorable !
Pairings: Tim Bradford x Teacher!Reader
Warnings: fluff, smut, swearing, pregnancy

A/N: Happy birthday or belated birthday to the anon that sent this in!
A/N 2: @talesofreading and @imagine-all-the-fandoms some steamy Tim smut for you!
Los Angeles. You never thought you would come back here but after being away for so long you were itching to come back. Most importantly you were missing your high school crush and boyfriend, Tim Bradford. You two only split when he decided to go into the military and you wanted to become a teacher. It was a mutual break up but man did it still hurt. You two had lost contact and both of you had been too busy to try and reconnect with each other but now you were back having gotten your teaching degree and took the position as a first-grade teacher. You loved kids and they seemed to be drawn to you. It was really your true calling.
Last you heard of Tim was that he had gotten out of the military and had gone to the police academy, was married but then got divorced and he was working as a TO for LAPD. You heard all of this through his sister that you were best friends with. You had wanted to get in contact with him but school and kids kept you busy so you just let it go.
☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆
The new school year was just about to start and you were excited. A few weeks before you had gone in and set up the classroom how you wanted and then started to figure out teaching material. A week before school actually starts you would be meeting the students and their parents for the first time. Overall, you were excited and couldn’t wait.
There was one week before school and you had gotten there early to start meeting the students and parents. The time had started and the students and parents started to slowly trickle in. Everyone you met were friendly and some of the dads even tried to flirt with you but you just smiled and continued on. You had your mind on one person and that was Tim Bradford.
It was finally the end of the day and you were exhausted but you had a lot of fun and loved seeing the kids. You made sure everything was in order and everything was cleaned then you were walking you out of the classroom and locking the door behind you. You left the school with a smile on your face. You couldn’t wait for Friday next week.
☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆
Your alarm on Friday went off early and you were getting up with a smile on your face. You turned it off and got in the shower and brushed your teeth. You walked out into your room in just a towel and started to get dressed. As you were doing so your cat, Biscuit, walked in and jumped on the bed and meowed at you, you turned and gave him some love and then you were back to getting ready. When you were done in there you walked out of the bedroom and into the kitchen where your German Shepherd, Steel, greeted you. You gave Steel his food and then fed Biscuit and now you were getting yourself coffee as it was brewing you let Steel out and then when he was done, he was at the door wanting back in. You finished getting ready to leave the house. The coffee chimed when it was done and you grabbed the travel mug and headed out to your blue Toyota Tacoma.
It was a quick drive to the school and you got there with no trouble. As you were driving you looked like Tim but you were too busy paying attention to the road. You pulled into the parking lot and into the parking lot for the teachers. You parked and turned the engine off and then you were getting out and grabbing your bag. As you were walking into the building you greeted some of the other staff who were all so friendly and that made you smile.
You walked to your room and unlocked it and started to get everything ready for the day. About 7:50 AM students started to trickle in and you were at the door greeting everyone. Once everyone was in you closed the door and walked to the front of the classroom smiling and made sure everyone was sitting down. “Good morning, kiddos. My name is Ms. Y/L/N and I’m gonna be your teacher for this year. I’m excited to learn about each and every one of you and I can’t wait for the fun things I have planned for you all. It’s going to be a fun year. Now does anyone have questions for me or about me?” You asked and a few raised their hands. You looked over at them and smiled “Benson, what is your question?” You asked.
“Do you have any animals?” He asked with sweet innocent eyes and you smiled.
“I do, I have a dog named Steel and a cat named Biscuit.” You said
“Do you have pictures?” He asked and you smiled and pulled up a picture of your animals.
The rest of the morning went without a hitch. When they were at lunch you smiled and sat in your room thinking about what the plan was for the second half of the day. You were scrolling through your email and noticed there was going to be a fire drill and that they were going to bring the fire trucks, ambulances, and police in.
All the kids were back and you let them know what was going to be happening and you assured them that there was nothing to be afraid of and it was all a drill. Some still seemed scared so you said that they could come to you if they got too scared and that seemed like that helped ease them up a little bit. For now, the day went like normal and it would be happening close to the end of the day.
☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆
“Did you hear that we have to go to the elementary school for a fire drill?” Lucy said as she and Tim were driving around making calls and making sure everything was good to go.
“Yes, I did.” Tim said, making his response short.
“How do you feel about that?” She asked
“I’m fine with it. It lets kids see the importance of what we do.” He said and she nodded seeing that he wasn’t up for any more discussing it. While they were waiting to be called to the school Tim was thinking about you and where you were. You were his high school love and he never stopped loving you even when he was married, he wanted to get back into contact with you but never seemed able to find the time but boy was he in or a surprise today. The time came and they were heading to the school along with the ambulance, firefighters, and two other shops. The point of this was to first have a fire drill and then show the importance of the first responders. Tim parked next to Talia and Nolan’s car and they headed over to the kids. Everyone was answering questions and then something, more like someone, caught Tim’s eye. He looked closer and it was you. You were bent down talking to a kid who was crying and you were trying to console them but it wasn’t working and so you picked the kid up and let them cry into your neck. He needed to see you and talk to you. “I’ll be right back.” He told Lucy and then was gone before she could say anything.
☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆
“Hey, shhhhhh. You’re ok.” You said consoling the little boy. You were bouncing them around trying to soothe him. You didn’t even know Tim was walking up to you. “It’s nothing to be scared about. It just means that it helps on the way and they save people.” You said and he came out from your neck and sniffled.
“Really?” He asked and you smiled and were about to answer but a familiar male voice answered before for you.
“Absolutely. It means that we are on our way to save you.” Tim said and you looked up and saw him and the little boy looked at him.
“Really?” He asked and Tim smiled.
“Yup, my fellow officer John Nolan will be happy to show you and talk to you about it.” He said and then pointed over to him “He is right over there.” Tim said and the boy sniffled and nodded and you sat him down and watched him scamper off to John. Making sure he was safe before turning to Tim smiling. “You've always been so good with kids.” He said and you chuckled.
“You have too. One of the many reasons I fell in love with you.” You said and he smiled and looked down.
“It's been a while.” He said looking up at you and you nodded agreeing.
“Too long and that is my fault.” You said and his smile turned into a frown and he shook his head.
“No. That is not true. I'm the one that took off and didn't even try to contact.” He said and you shook your head.
“I'm to blame too.” You said and once again he was denying it.
“We can discuss this over dinner.” He said and you looked at him.
“Like a date?” You asked
“Exactly like that. My number is the same if you wanted to text me anytime.” He said and you smiled and nodded.
“Mine is too.” You said
“Ms. Y/L/N! She hit me!” Your student, Amber, said pointing to another student, Emma, as they ran up to you. You looked at Tim and he smiled and nodded. You bent down to the two girls. You walked back over to Lucy and the others watching you handle the situation with a smile. All he could think about was how you would deal with your and his kids and that put a smile on his face.
☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆
Tim walked back over to the group smiling. “Is The Tim Bradford actually smiling?” Lucy asked and everyone turned to see and he actually started to blush.
“He's blushing!” Angela said with a smile.
“I am not.” He said and tried to stop but he just saw the love of his life again.
“You so are! Is it because of that teacher you were flirting with?” Lucy asked and he didn't say anything and then the radio saved him and then he was quick to answer it.
“Come on Boot. We have work to do.” Tim said and walked over to his shop and she quickly followed behind him. When they got back to the shop his phone dinged and he was quick to pull it out and smiled when he saw it was you. Lucy took notice of this and she smirked.
“Is that her?” Lucy asked and Tim was quick to drop the smile and look at her.
“It’s none of your business.” He said and she rolled her eyes but smirked when she looked away, he was smiling and was quick to send a reply back and it was back to work for the both of you.
☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆
You and Tim had been talking all week and the same old feelings were coming back. Saturday rolled around and you found out he was working and you decided to bring him and his coworkers. You loved baking and Tim knew this. You parked in a parking spot and then walked into the police station smiling. You greeted the front desk person and they smiled. “What can I do for you?” She asked.
“I’m here to see Tim Bradford.” You said and she smiled and then she paged him and he was coming down in time.
“Y/N, what are you doing here?” He asked and you smiled and turned to him.
“Well, you mentioned you were working today and thought you and your coworkers could use some baked goods.” You said and he smiled.
“Come on.” He said and you walked with him into where everyone was. It looked like they were just in for lunch. “Guys, this is Y/N. Y/N this is Angela, Talia, Lucy, Jackson, and Nolan.” He said and everyone waved as they were introduced.
“Nice to meet you all.” You said “I figured you all could use some goodies.” You said you waved your basket.
“Her cookies are to die for. They are my favorite” Tim said as you set the basket down in the break room. Tim wasn’t looking at anyone but you, everyone was smiling and looking at how lovesick he was and they were happy for him. Everyone got a cookie and they absolutely fell in love with them and they voiced this and that made you smile. “Hey, would you follow me?” He asked you and you nodded and he took your hand and led you to the briefing room.
“What’s up?” You asked as you sat on the edge of one of the tables.
“Will you go on a date with me?” He asked and you smiled and nodded.
“I would love to go on a date with you.” You said and that made him smile.
“Great! I’ll pick you up at 7 tonight?” He asked and you once again smiled.
“That sounds perfect.” You said and then you both continued to talk until he had to leave and that was cue now you had to go home and get ready for your date.
7 PM rolled around quickly and before you knew it you were opening the door to a smiling and well-dressed Timothy Bradford. “Wow.” He said and you blushed but Steel was quick to rush the door.
“Steel, off.” You said and he backed up and moved away from the door and that made Tim fall in love with you even more. You made sure to grab your keys, locking the door behind you, and the both of you headed to his truck where he helped you in and then closed the door and walked to the other side and got in and headed to the restaurant that he had picked out that he knew you would love. “So where are we going?” You asked and he smiled.
“It's a surprise but you’re going to love it. They have sushi.” He said when he looked over and saw you were about to say something and then your smile came back. “I’ve missed you. I’m sorry that I didn’t stay in contact.” He said and you shook your head.
“Nonsense. It was my fault too.” You said
“I guess it is both of our faults.” He said and you chuckled but agreed. You both were quick to get to the restaurant and he was quick to park and then was getting out and helping you out. You both walked into the restaurant and he walked up to the receptionist and he was quick to get you seated. You two talked and caught up and just had a delightful time, it was just like old times. You both ordered and now the wait for food has started.
“I missed you.” You said and he smiled and nodded.
“I missed you too. It was hard to go on not knowing how you were but I was too selfish to actually text you.” He said and you nodded looking at him.
“It was hard finding out through your sister about what you were doing but it helped.” You said and he nodded and just then the food came and you both started eating and finished the date and now you were back at your house inviting him. Steel greeted you and so did Biscuit and they immediately fell in love with him and you fell back in love with him, though you never truly fell out of love with him.
You sat on the couch with a glass of wine, both of your animals had left the room so it was just the both of you, and you both leaned in and now you were kissing him and he was kissing back and neither of you were stopping each other. “Tell me to stop if you want me to stop.” He said when he pulled away and you looked him in the eye.
“I don’t want you to stop.” You said and he smiled.
“I was hoping you were going to say that.” He said and crashed his lips back into yours and he laid you down on the couch. He started to kiss your neck and then got to your sweet spot and gently bit it and that made you moan.
“Tim.” You moaned and he smirked and did it again. You clenched around nothing. You both worked on getting each other clothes off and everything was off in no time in a pile on the floor beside the couch. “I love you.” You said and he trailed down your body peppering it.
“I love you too.” He said in between kisses. He ghosted over nipples giving them equal attention but he knew where you needed him the most. This was not the first time you had sex with this man, he was your first in high school, sure you had sex with other men but nothing compared to him. He still knew how you liked it and knew all the right places to please you. He trailed down to your heated core and was quick to dive in and you moaned out throwing your head back and hands going to his head. He let up for just a second. “We can take this to the bedroom if you want.” He said and you shook your head.
“No, it's perfect here.” You said and he nodded and he was diving back into your pussy licking and sucking on your clit knowing exactly where to use his tongue to please you. “Tim.” You moaned out and bucked your hips towards him and he was quick to hold you down. Your hands left his head and they came up to clutch the couch cushions and your legs spread wider. He started swirling his tongue around your entrance and was tongue fucking you and you felt that rubber band feeling starting to tighten. “‘M close.” You moaned out but he stopped just as soon as you were about to cum. “Tim.” You moaned out in frustration but he was moving up to be face to face with you.
“What?” He asked his breath fanning you and you could smell the wine on this breath.
“I was about to cum.” You said and he smirked.
“You’ll get what you want soon.” He said and kissed you as he rubbed his cock up and down your wet folds and then let up on the kiss as he pushed into you and you both moaned. “See? I told you.” He said and all you did was moan. He stretched you in all the right places and it was like you were back in high school with him all over again.
“Tim.” You moaned and he smirked, loving the way he made you moan and the way you were gripping him. He started to move and you both moaned out.
“You’re still as tight as ever.” He said and attacked your neck with more kisses and love bites.
“You ruined all the other guys for me.” You moaned out and he gave a sharp thrust that hit your g-spot perfectly.
“Good.” He said
“You’re the only one for me.” You said and he gave another sharp thrust and then he started to go faster and you didn’t even have to ask for it. You both wanted this and you both needed it. Everything was perfect. Ever since he started to go faster it was making that rubber band feeling coming back. Each thrust was like heaven and you never wanted it to end. “I’m about to cum.” You moaned out.
“Me too.” He moaned out and picked up his pace and trailed one hand, leaving the other to keep his weight off of you, down to your body to your clit and he started to rub it, flick it, and pinch it all it was doing was making you come closer to the edge. Your orgasm was just right there and so was his.
“Tim!” You yelled out not caring who heard you.
“Cum for me.” He said and sent a flick to your clit and leaned down to bite your nipple and then you were seeing stars. Not a few seconds later his thrusts were getting sloppy “I’m gonna cum.” He said and then his hips stilled and he painted your walls right. It was a good thing you were on birth control, you thought as you and Tim came down from your highs. Tim slowly slipped out of you and then got behind you and threw an arm around you. He grabbed the blanket from off the back of the couch and threw it over you both. “I’m never gonna let you leave again.” He said and you smiled and nodded and turned to look at him.
“I’m never going to leave. Ever.” You said and he smiled and leaned down to kiss you.
“I love you.” He said
“I love you too.” You replied
You wanted this. You wanted forever with him and he wanted that with you too. You both wanted to marry each other and start a family with each other. Neither of you could wait to finally be with each other forever. You both wanted this since high school and nothing is going to get in the way of you both being together forever, not again.
☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆
2 years later………
You and Tim had been married for 2 years now and had a 2-year-old son, Dakota. Your son was conceived on the last day of your honeymoon. Now you are 6 months pregnant with your second child, this one being a girl. Your jobs were going great and Tim had just been promoted to Sergeant which meant a bigger paycheck. Now you and Dakota were walking into the precinct to meet with your husband. You had just parked the car and got out and got Dakota out. “Kota, hold my hand when crossing the street.” You said and he nodded.
“Otay momma.” He said and you smiled and ran a hand through his hair, he was the exact copy of his father. You grabbed his hand and the both of you walked across the street and into the precinct.
“Good morning, Mrs. Bradford and Dakota.” The receptionist said and you smiled.
“Good morning, Veronica.” You said “Tim in?” You asked and she nodded.
“Yup, you know where to find him.” She said and you nodded and then you were heading to him with a hand on your sons and one on your stomach.
“Y/N! Dakota!” Lucy said and you smiled.
“Hello, Lucy.” You said and your son waved at her.
“Tim is in his office.” She said and you smiled and walked to his office. You looked into the room and saw him focusing on his work and you looked down at Dakota.
“Knock, Baby.” You said and he smiled and did so.
“Come in.” He said and you opened the door and you both stepped in.
“Daddy!” Dakota said and he looked up and smiled and walked around his desk and scooped his son up.
“Hello there, handsome. Have you been good for mommy?” He asked and he nodded.
“We went to the store, I helped!” Dakota rambled on and Tim smiled.
“You helped mommy?” He asked and looked at you and you nodded.
“Uh huh. I helped carry!” He said and he smiled.
“That’s my boy.” He said and kissed his cheek and then walked over and kissed you. “How is our little girl doing?” He asked.
“Currently being still for once but using my bladder as a soccer ball a lot.” You said and he chuckled. He put Dakota down and he walked over to the table with toys and coloring books that Tim kept for him. Tim put his hand on your stomach and immediately the baby kicked. “She must know that she has her daddy here.” You said and he chuckled and leaned down to kiss you.
“Mommy! Daddy! Come help!” Dakota all but shouted and you two broke apart.
“Ok, we’re coming.” Tim said and you followed him over there and he sat down on the ground and you sat in a chair which he helped you sit in. Tim got into helping Dakota so that you were able to lean back and watch with a smile on your face. This was the dream you always wanted with him and you got it finally after so long. You were married to the man of your dreams, had a son together, and have a daughter on the way. You rubbed your stomach as she kicked and that made you smile.
You were finally happy and couldn’t wait to spend the rest of your years with the man of your dreams since high school. They were your world and you wouldn’t trade anything for it. You loved your growing family and you knew Tim did and that made you happy. Tim looked over at you and smiled. “I love you.” You mouthed and he smiled.
“I love you too.” He mouthed and then Dakota was grabbing his attention again and you chuckled, yup you loved little growing family.

“Hey I was just about to call you, I’m wrapping up my shift but the team is heading to get drinks, figured you could meet us there? We’re going to that spot that has those mojitos you like.” Tim had a smile on his face as he answered your phone call. He was walking through the station towards the men’s locker room, ready to change out of the stench of a long patrol day.
“Before you freak out, I want you to know I’m okay.” Your voice was completely opposite of his. It wasn’t shaky for what happened, but you were solemn and still in your delivery. It was honestly silly to start your conversation this way, Tim wasn’t one to freak out, but he was one to think the worst first.
“What happened?” His voice immediately matched yours. Very typical for people that held the positions you did, to be calm under crisis.
“I got shot on shift today. I’m at the hospital.”
“You what?” Tim had stopped in his tracks immediately waiting for more information.
“My thigh, it’s not a big deal. It missed my artery but protocol is for me to be here for the next couple days.” You didn’t exactly want to get into details but you knew you had to give him some information.
“Why am I just finding this out?” Tim was now rushing to the exit doors.
“I told them not to call you, I wanted you to hear it from me, not some random SWAT member.”
“You do realize they’re not random, they come to all our barbecues, we’ve been to their weddings…” Tim was starting to argue with you. “Not to mention, I should’ve heard it on the radio.”
“Really wanna argue with me right now, Bradford?” You sighed despite the smile on your face.
“I really wanna know what happened.”
You could hear his truck engine start in the background and from that you knew he was going to be at the hospital in minutes.
“We got called in on some cartel tip, it was off-channel, stealth.” You explained knowing he wasn’t going to let it go. “I was applying aid to a hostage and it just happened.”
“I really hope you didn’t write your report that way.” Annoyance was dripping off his tone.
“Tim.” You said with the same amount of annoyance.
“No, you don’t get to be mad at me for being mad.” He was on the highway now, you could hear the change in background noise. “I’ll be there in 5 minutes.”
With that he hung up, and was in front of you within minutes. It made you wonder where he left his truck and who he talked to before getting to your room.
“Jesus.” He was at the edge of the bed looking down at you. “How you holdin’ up?”
“I’m fine, I just wanna go home.” You brushed him off.
“What the hell happened out there?” His voice didn’t sound angry like it did on the phone, he was genuinely upset.
“I told you, it happened fast, I was applying aid and then the next we were under fire.” You shook your head, not able to look him in the eye.
At that motion he walked over to the side of the bed, quickly engulfing you in a hug. “I know when you’re lying to me.” He mumbled into the top of your head before placing a kiss there.
You leaned into him, despite all his gear from his belt making it rather unpleasant to be in his embrace, it was the most comfortable you’ve felt since everything happened. You leaned into him more, gripping him closer to you when you let out a little sob.
He gently scooted you over, making sure he didn’t aggravate or even touch the leg with the bullet wound. It was just enough so that he could sit next to you in the bed and shield you from prying eyes outside.
“It’s alright.” He hummed as he rubbed your back up and down. A nurse had entered at one point and Tim just politely smiled and asked if the two of you could have a couple minutes.
The tears you let escape you were some that you hadn’t shed in years. It was buried down deep, being in your field, being at war, it did that to you, it bottled everything up and left you to deal with it at another time, and each time being more inconvenient than the last left for it to overflow now.
As you calmed down, you took a deep breath and wiped your face before looking at Tim.
“You went back.” Tim said not needing you to say anything in explanation about what happened.
“It was like I was right back in Afghanistan.” You nodded.
“Protocols are different here.” Tim tilted his head to look at you, wondering if he pushed you into this too soon.
“Yea, they got me on probation. Seeing the shrink tomorrow where they’ll figure out when I’m cleared for active duty.”
“You know, if you wanted to go back to work at the hospital, no one would hold it against you.” Tim offered up a solution that was more for him than it was for you.
“I was doing fine up until now, I think all the dust from the desert we were in, my hands wrist deep into this guys abdomen, brought me back to when you were bleeding out in front of me. Getting shot brought me back to the moment, it was like the shake back to reality I needed.” You shook your head as you thought through it all.
“Yea the shrinks gonna have a ball with you.” Tim teased you before getting serious. “You’ve always been self-aware. On top of your shit, you’ll be back on active duty in no time.”
“You sound worried.” It was obvious to notice the hesitancy in his voice.
“Just can’t help but feel like I pushed you to this.” Tim sighed deeply.
“I chose this.” You began to argue with him.
“But I planted the seed.” He argued back.
“You give yourself too much credit.” You laughed and squeezed his hand. “Remember when the Chief’s daughter came in, and I took her on as my patient, he saw how I handled everything, when they checked out, he mentioned how I might be good in TEMS. I brushed it off, but when you brought it up again, it just was harder and harder to brush it off. It just made sense.”
Tim looked down at you shocked that you never mentioned what his boss said to you.
“I’m just saying, don’t give yourself the credit for this.” You shrugged and teased him.
“I just want to make sure you’re good.” Tim got serious again after letting out a laugh from your tease.
“I’m fine, and after I see Dr. Shrink tomorrow I’ll be even better.”
“You’re not opposed to it, which is already how I know you’re fine.” Tim joked as he brought you closer to him as both of you relaxed in the bed.
“That’s that machismo stigma, I love talking to people about my problems. Which, speaking of, you didn’t take the trash out this morning.”
Tim let out a belly laugh, “I’ll be sure to take it out tonight.”
“No you won’t. You’re staying with me, Sarge.” And with that you cuddled into him as best as you could and closed your eyes so you could get as many minutes in the the most comfortable sleep you’d get while being in the hospital.

Beneath Your Beautiful: Let Me Love You
“I couldn’t stop thinking about you today,” she confesses, tipping her head back to meet his eyes and settling her hand on his chest in a way that gives life to a warmth radiating through his center. How is he supposed to function when every little thing she does has him feeling like he’s melting on the inside?
“Yeah, I got that from your 332 texts,” he teases gently as he brushes his thumb along her jaw. Lucy’s steady stream of memes and ridiculous ClipToks and random, entirely irrelevant facts about sea turtles had easily been the very best part of his day. Up until now that is.
She bites her lip, little lines forming between her brows, “Was it too much?”
He finds his focus drifting from the conversation as he allows a finger to continue the journey down her neck and along her collar, finally fully processing the feel of her silk robe under his hands, the deep red of her lips, and the picture perfect waves tumbling down over her shoulders.
“Tim,” a tinge of a whine enters her voice as she tries to draw his attention back to her question. But if it’s conversation she’s interested in, she has absolutely chosen the wrong outfit. He leans in for a better look — what exactly is that bit of lacy black fabric peaking out from the deep V-neck of her robe?

you'll be alright (no one can hurt you now) chapter one
✰ 𝐩𝐚𝐢𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠: Lucy Chen & Tamara Colins, Tim Bradford & Lucy Chen, background Tim Bradford x Lucy Chen
✰ 𝐬𝐮𝐦𝐦𝐚𝐫𝐲: Lucy finds Tamara, not as a 17 year old, but as a newborn. She immediately takes her in, and vows to give her the childhood and support that she deserves.
✰ 𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬: canon divergence, autistic!Tamara, Tim Bradford would do anything for Lucy Chen, mentions of drug overdose, and drug addiction, death (not a main character though dw), Lucy is a hardcore swiftie,
don’t forget to read and reblog, and i do not give permission for my works to be posted anywhere other than tumblr. thank you.
Title is from Safe and Sound by Taylor Swift
Lucy stood on the side walk, hands on her duty belt, and eyes on her current training officer, Scott Wrigley as he asked the woman they had just pulled over to see her licence, registration and proof of insurance. The woman willingly, gave him the documents, and Lucy found her attention wandering away from the woman in the car, and surveying the area they were in.
Lucy, truthfully, was bored. While Tim was hard on her, he was a good, solid cop, that did the job because he wanted to make a difference in the world. Wrigley, while also a good, solid cop, was only there for a pay check. He was there to write tickets for 12 hours a day, get paid, and go home to his children without a scrape on him. And while Lucy respected that, it just wasn’t for her. She wanted to make a difference, and sitting here, taking only the tame calls, was not doing that. She knew she just had to stick it out for a little longer, and Tim would be back, but she was starting to think she was going crazy.
So crazy that she was now having auditory hallucinations. Auditory hallucinations of a baby crying.
They were in the middle of nowhere, which was rare in Los Angeles. All that was here was empty, and long abandoned warehouses. There was no reason for a baby’s cry to be heard around here. Lucy shook her head, trying to get the noise to stop, and focus back on her temporary TO.
“You hear that, Chen?” Wrigley asked, stopping as he was walking back to the car.
“Hear what, sir?” She responded, expecting him to say something dumb like ‘the silence of a calm day,’ or something like that, just to unintentionally rub it in her face that she was bored out of her fucking mind with him.
“The baby crying,” he said, and Lucy stopped. He could hear it too? She thought to herself. If he could hear it too, that meant one of two things. 1) they were both going insane, or 2) the baby’s cry that she was hearing was from an actual baby. And she knew which one was more likely than the other.
“Yes sir, I do.” She said, looking around. “Do you want me to go find where the baby’s cry is coming from?”
Wrigley furrowed his eyebrows. “Why would we do that?” He questioned.
“Isn’t…that why you mentioned it?” She asked, thoroughly confused. “Look where we are. All that is here is empty and abandoned warehouses, why would we be hearing a baby cry here? We should be making sure that everything is okay before we leave.”
Wrigely smirked at her. “Good job, Chen.” He said, and Lucy dug her nails into her palm to stop her from rolling her eyes. He was testing her. “Go check it out while I fill out this paperwork.” She nodded, and headed off in the direction that she heard the cry.
The cry was growing louder as she turned the corner, ending up in an alleyway between two abandoned warehouses, covered in graffiti. She continued to follow the cry as she approached a dumpster. Her stomach was in knots. Surely if it was a parent and their baby, she would have heard the parents voice, right? Surely no one would have left their defenceless and helpless infant to fend for themselves, right?
Wrong.
Lucy walked to the other side of the dumpster, and she gasped, her heart pounding. On the ground, beside the dumpster, was a baby, who couldn’t be older than a few hours old, judging by the umbilical cord still attached, and how the baby, who upon closer inspection was a girl, was haphazardly wiped off and placed in a broken wicker basket.
Next to her, was very obviously her mother. There was a pool of blood covering her upper thighs and the ground underneath her, and used needles spread around the scene, including one still stuck in her upper arm. Lucy grabbed her radio, and pressed down.
“Control, this is 7-Adam-19 requesting an RA and a supervisor at Cromer Lane, in the first alleyway on the left, I have a 10-50, code 3.” Lucy placed her radio back, and crouched down next to the baby, doing her best to comfort the little girl without picking her up, despite how much Lucy wanted to.
“It’s okay, sweet girl,” She whispered, reaching into her duty belt for a pair of gloves. She slid them on her hands, and reached over to the baby’s mother in order to try and see if she could feel a pulse. Her heart broke for the sobbing baby girl when she couldn’t feel one.
She heard sirens in the background, as well as boots hitting the ground, clearly Wrigley running to see what was happening after hearing her call on the radio.
“Oh my god.” He whispered from behind her.
“I need something to wrap the baby in,” She said to Wrigley, and he started to retreat, mumbling something about grabbing an emergency blanket from the shop.
He returned less than a minute later, and Lucy grabbed the package from him, ripping it open. She shook the blanket to get it to unfold, before she wrapped the small infant up, holding her close to her chest, hoping some of her body heat would transfer through the blanket.
The sirens got closer, and Lucy began to see the flashing lights reflected on the brick wall across from her. Wrigley was talking to her, but she wasn’t hearing or processing anything coming out of his mouth. All that she could focus on was the tiny little baby in her arms, who was calmed down, and was just staring up at her, her small brown eyes looking up into Lucy’s.
“It’s gonna be okay,” She whispered. “You’re gonna be okay.” She heard the doors of the ambulance open behind her and paramedics rush to her side. A female paramedic crouched down next to her, and began to ask her questions about the baby and her mother.
“She seems to be okay, physically at least.” Lucy rambled, her eyes not leaving the tiny baby. “She can’t be more than a few hours old.”
The paramedic nodded. “Judging by the shaking, I’m assuming her mother was using her entire pregnancy.” Lucy nodded, swallowing the lump in her throat. She watched carefully as the paramedics cut the umbilical cord, and then continued working on trying to resuscitate her mother, with no success.
They gave her 2 doses of Narcan, did CPR, and tried the AED, but nothing worked. She was gone, and had probably been gone since before Lucy and Wrigley arrived on scene.
“We have to take her to the hospital,” The paramedic beside Lucy stated, standing up. Lucy did the same, as Grey and Wrigely walked up to her.
“I’m coming with,” she stated.
“Boot-“ Wrigley replied, clearly frustrated with how hard headed she was being.
“I’m going.” She stated, firmer. She then turned to Grey, and looked at him for approval. He nodded at her, a smile on his face.
“Go with her, Chen.” He said. “Let us know if theres any updates.”
Lucy smiled. “Yes, sir.” She said, before following the paramedic, and climbing in the back of the ambulance. They were pulling away a few moments later, and were headed to St Stephens.
Lucy was able to stay with the baby until they reached the NICU. She was then told that they needed to do an assessment on the infant, but that someone would come and grab Lucy when she was able to go see her. She sat down in the uncomfortable hospital waiting room chair, and glanced around at the other families in the NICU. She didn’t know any of their stories, but they all had one thing in common; they were here because they wanted their baby to be okay.
And while that tiny little baby wasn’t Lucy’s, Lucy was the one who found her, who called for help, who held her and comforted her when she needed it the most. She had no one at the moment, so there was nowhere else Lucy would rather be than here, supporting this little girl.
“Officer Chen?” A voice said to the right of her. She looked up, and stood up when she saw the doctor.
“Yes?” She said, coming face to face with the nurse in charge of the infant. “Is she going to be okay?”
The nurse smiled. “She is very lucky, officer.” Lucy let out a breath that she didn’t know she was holding at that. “She is very healthy. She does have traces of meth in her blood, but it is a very minuscule amount. It should leave her system within the next 8 to 24 hours.”
Lucy nodded. “Okay. Thats good. I was thinking the worst.”
The nurse nodded. “She is a very lucky little girl. I have contacted DCFS, and they are going to send someone as soon as they can, it appears that they are very backed up at the moment. Is there anything you need from me?”
“Uh,” Lucy stuttered, racking her brain for the protocols to follow in this situation. “No, not right now. I will have to wait for my supervisor or training officer to proceed, but in the meantime, am I able to go sit with her?”
The nurse nodded, and began to turn. “Of course, follow me and I’ll take you to her.” Lucy began to follow the nurse down the hallway. “Actually,” the nurse said. “Would you be up to kangaroo cuddling with her? Being so young, she definitely hasn’t had skin to skin with anyone, and skin to skin is very beneficial to an infant as young as her.”
Lucy found herself nodding immediately. “Of course, whatever she needs.” Lucy trailed after the nurse into the dark and quiet NICU room, glancing at the two other bassinets in the room, each with what she presumed to be family around them, either gazing into the bassinet, or holding their baby. Lucy’s eyes met the bassinet holding the baby she had found, and her heart broke seeing the infants tiny body with wires and tubes coming out of her body, even though she had much less equipment than the other two infants in the room.
“She’s so small,” Lucy whispered, looking into the bassinet.
“She’s actually the biggest baby on the ward at the moment.” The nurse said, pointing to the chair for Lucy to sit in.
“So she was full term then?” Lucy said as she laid her duty belt on the table next to her, and unbuttoning her uniform shirt.
The nurse nodded. “Yes, she was. And perfectly healthy, other than the meth in her system, which is surprising. It seems that her mother did try to abstain from drug use while pregnant, but she most likely slipped up towards the end.”
“Wow.” Lucy said, taking off her white undershirt and laying it on top of her uniform shirt. “That’s not something I see too often.”
“Me either,” The nurse agreed, as she lifted up the infant and tucked her legs up, bringing her over to Lucy. Lucy opened her arms, and let the nurse rest the baby on her chest. Lucy immediately wrapped her arms around the baby, cuddling her as close as she could without hurting her. The nurse then laid a light pink blanket over the two of them with a smile.
“If you need anything, just press the nurses button, and someone will come and check on you. And I will come and get you as soon as DCFS or your superiors show up.”
Lucy nodded, her eyes not leaving the baby. “Thank you.” The nurse nodded, and headed out of the room. Lucy slowly began rocking back and forth in the chair, looking intently at the baby, who was wiggling around, head bobbing up and down on Lucy’s chest as she tried to get comfortable.
Once the baby found a comfortable position, she opened her tiny mouth in a big yawn, and shut her eyes, falling asleep within seconds on Lucy’s warm skin. Lucy chuckled quietly, and began rubbing her hand up and down on her back, letting her get some well deserved sleep.
After a few minutes of silence, there was a crash in the hallway from a cart crashing into a wall, and the baby jolted awake, before bursting into tears. Lucy immediately sat up, and hushed the baby in her arms.
“You’re okay, sweet girl,” she whispered. “I know, that was loud, huh?” The baby hiccuped, and her tears slowly began to stop. Her eyes were open, and Lucy smiled. “It’s okay.” She continued speaking to the infant. “You’re safe with me.” She leant down and pressed a kiss to her forehead.
The baby yawned again, and Lucy smiled at her, cupping the back of her head, rubbing her thumb back and forth against her soft skin.
“I remember tears streaming down your face when I said I’ll never let you go,” Lucy began to sing, her eyes not leaving the baby. “When all those shadows almost killed your light, I remember you said don’t leave me here alone.
“But all that’s dead and gone and passed tonight,” The baby didn’t move, just continued to stare up at Lucy as she sang. “Just close your eyes, the sun is going down. You’ll be alright, no one can hurt you now.”
A lump formed in Lucy’s throat as she gazed down at the infant in her arms. She couldn’t understand how lucky she was that Lucy was near the warehouse when she was. Despite being in Los Angeles, it was still December, and the temperature plummeted at night time, and had she been out there a few more hours, she would have died.
And now, this tiny, defenceless orphan, who’s life only started today, had no one. Had no mother, more than likely no father, and she was about to go into the foster care system if DCFS couldn’t find a next of kin within a few days. And what made it worse, was how Lucy was already dreading putting her down. She didn’t want to put this baby down. She wanted to keep holding this little girl. She wanted to take her home, love her, protect her, and raise her.
She took a deep breath as the baby’s eyes fluttered shut, and fell back into a peaceful sleep. She thought about offering to take her in, at least until DCFS found next of kin for her, if they were able to at all. She could, she was an emergency foster parent, and had been since she turned 20. She had an apartment in a safe part of the city, and made more than enough money to support the two of them.
“You’re gonna be okay,” she said to the baby. “You’re gonna come home with me, and I’m going to keep you safe. I promise.”

Tim's eyes caught hers and for a moment she felt breathless under the weight of his steel blue eyes. "Boyfriend?" "I said partner", she clarified, knowing fully well what it would sound like to everyone else other than cops. "If I recall correctly, I'm your superior", Tim pointed out. "No sign of amnesia then."
Prompts: "You told me to move on" & Tim asks Lucy to lay with him in the hospital bed and she says no because she doesn't want to hurt him. Tim says "you could never hurt me" and "please, I need you"

empty chairs
Summary - ‘They aren’t coming,’ she mumbled. Tim’s breath hitched in his throat. He didn’t need any more information to know who Lucy was talking about. Her parents.
‘Add them to the list of people I love who won’t be there,’ she muttered more to herself than to Tim. He tugged her even tighter into his chest at her words. He knew they weren’t just talking about her parents now. She was also getting married without her best friend. Without Jackson.
Notes - it’s been so long since I wrote for Chenford and I missed them so please enjoy ❤️ AO3 Link
She didn’t bound up to him at the door like she usually did, excitement pouring out of her body as she threw her arms around him. She wasn’t in the kitchen putting together ingredients he had never heard of for a dinner that would be a sensation for his taste buds. He couldn’t hear her singing from the shower, her beautiful voice echoing through the apartment. But when Tim closed the door behind him, he heard a small sniff and his fists tightened at his side.
That was the sound of his fiancée crying and once he found out who had made her cry, he would be dealing with them. He wasn’t going to cause them any lasting physical damage, he’d lose his badge for that, but he knew he could put the fear of god in people when he needed to. His large stature and forceful scowl could make even the most seasoned cops shake in their boots. None of them knew he had turned into a giant teddy bear since Lucy Chen had carved her name into his heart.
‘Luce, babe, where are you?’ He said loudly, his eyes roaming over the apartment. He had moved in a couple of months before he had dropped down on one knee and asked her to marry him - it had been an easy decision for him and judging by the speed at which she had said yes, for her as well. They planned on moving to a house once they were married, with enough space for Tamara to still call home when she visited from college.
‘Here,’ she said softly, her voice barely audible and if his ears hadn’t spent the last few years being attuned to her he might have missed it. His eyes finally landed on the couch where he could just see the top of her head poking over. Tim dropped his gun and badge on the kitchen counter, he’d put them in the safe in a moment once he’d made sure Lucy was okay, and crossed over to where she was sitting on the floor in four strides, his long legs making short work of the distance.
‘Hey,’ he said, dropping down on the floor next to her and pulling her up onto his lap. He wrapped his arms around her, dropped a kiss to her head and breathed her in. He hated seeing her like this. Her eyes were red rimmed, her nails bitten down to the quick and she was still in the pyjamas she had been wearing when he had kissed her goodbye this morning.
This was supposed to be the happiest time of their lives. They were getting married on Saturday and Lucy had taken the week off to prepare for the big day. She had been excited about getting everything in order but judging from her current predicament, something had changed all of that.
‘Talk to me Lucy,’ he muttered against her hair. ‘What’s wrong?’
When she stayed quiet, he didn’t push her. She’d open up to him when she was ready. He had learnt that pushing her to talk to him just pushed her further away. She had spent a lot of her life just relying on herself and the adjustment to being able to rely on him had been tough for her. So he stayed on the floor, his arms tight around his crying fiancée, his hand smoothing comfortingly down her back, patiently waiting until she wanted to speak.
‘They aren’t coming,’ she stuttered after a short while. Tim’s breath hitched in his throat. He didn’t need any more information to know who Lucy was talking about.
Her parents.
He had known they weren’t completely onboard with her dating someone who had been her supervisor, had accused her of sleeping her way to the top but Tim thought they had gotten past it. When he had popped the question and Lucy had excitedly called her parents, Tim had thought from the sound of the phone call that they were pleased for her, happy she had someone who loved her and cared for her and was settling down like they had always wanted her to.
That clearly wasn’t the case.
They were the last people to RSVP, the wedding was the day after tomorrow and the numbers had already been confirmed with the venue and the caterers. Both he and Lucy had assumed they had simply forgotten to return the card, because of course they would be there to see their only daughter get married. Lucy had said yesterday she was going to call them today to see if they needed any help with the transport to the wedding but from her reaction, that phone call had not gone as planned.
How could two parents, who claimed to love their daughter as the Chen’s did, not want to be there when she married the man she loved. Was it Tim’s fault? Was he the person causing Lucy this pain? That they couldn’t get over the fact she was marrying someone ten years her senior, previously married and who used to be her direct supervisor at work. He knew how it looked to an outsider, he wasn’t blind to the fact. And it was because of all those reasons it had taken him and Lucy as long as it had to admit their feelings to each other. But this was real. His love for her was the realest thing in his life.
‘I’m sorry Luce,’ he said, not knowing what else to say.
‘Add them to the list of people I love who won’t be there,’ she muttered more to herself than to Tim. He tugged her even tighter into his chest at her words. He knew they weren’t just talking about her parents now. She was also getting married without her best friend. Jackson.
They had decided to leave an empty chair for him in the front row, a mark of respect, a show of love, whatever you want to call it. It was Lucy’s way of having him there even when she couldn’t. But Tim knew if he was still here, Jackson would have fought tooth and nail to be there for her at her wedding. Tim was certain he would have given her plenty of shit for marrying her TO, but he would have been there at her side. His absence was not his choice.
Her parents however. That was their choice. And it was their choice that had hurt his girl.
——————————————————————————
Despite the fact they had removed the signs reserving the seats for mother and father of the bride, the two seats next to Jackson’s remained empty. Glaring vacancies in an otherwise sea of smiling faces.
Tim tugged at his sleeves, fiddling with his cufflinks as he stared at them. He should have tasked Angela with getting someone to sit in them so Lucy’s side of the venue wouldn’t look so empty in the front row. His own contained Genny and his nephews who both looked equal parts excited and bored, weddings weren’t the most interesting places for kids but he knew their mother had promised them presents if they stayed quiet.
Angela stood next to him, dressed in a long black dress that matched his suit, the style of the dress was identical to that of Tamara’s - Lucy’s maid of honour. It was Tamara who would be walking Lucy down the aisle today.
Both Nolan and Grey had offered if she wanted them to but Lucy had made the call that Tamara was her family, and she wanted her to do it. Tim knew it wasn’t conventional, knew others in the crowd from his extended family would probably question him on it later. But Lucy’s eyes had shone when she had made the decision and Tamara had been just as excited, so Tim didn’t care what anyone else thought.
His only priority was Lucy.
‘Calm down,’ Angela whispered into his ear. ‘She won’t stand you up.’ She chuckled and Tim shot her an exasperated look.
He wasn’t worried she was going to stand him up. He knew she loved him, knew what they had was special. But he would be lying if he said he wasn’t worried that the sight of three empty seats at the front would upset her. But as the pianist began to play, not only was it too late to worry, but the sight of Lucy walking towards him pushed the worry to a back corner of his brain, long forgotten about.
She looked like an angel.
She floated down the aisle like she had been made just for him. His own personal vision in white. He was certain he was crying and he was certain he couldn’t care less. This wonderful, beautiful, incredible, smart woman had agreed to be his wife. And in just a few short moments she would be.
Time seemed to stop as she glided towards him, arm in arm with Tamara who looked lovely in her own bottle green dress, but it was on Lucy where Tim’s eyes remained fixed.
How could he be so lucky?
Her white dress clung to her body in all the right places, satin with hints of lace across her shoulders. Her long hair was down but pieces were braided into an intricate crown around her head. She looked ethereal and Tim knew for as long as he lived, he would never forget how she looked in that moment. It would forever be imprinted onto his mind.
The ceremony passed by in a blur, all Tim could focus on was Lucy. He was sure the officiant was saying beautiful words and the crowd would be laughing or crying at the appropriate moment, but his gaze was firmly in front of him, everything else had melted into background static.
After they were pronounced man and wife, he barely waited for the cue to kiss his bride before he pulled Lucy close to him and sealed his lips to hers. He tried to pour every ounce of love he had for her into that kiss. He wasn’t sure he had achieved his goal but as he pulled back and looked down at his wife, he knew he had. She was looking at him like there was no one else in the room, her eyes brimming with tears but her smile wide and bright as sunshine. He kissed her again quickly, needing to taste her lips again before the rest of the evening commenced and they were occupied with celebrations.
They linked hands and turned to walk down the aisle but that was when he felt Lucy stall for just a millisecond. He glanced over and saw where her eyes had settled. The empty chairs in the front row. His heart broke for her.
Even though her parents had said they weren’t coming, that they didn’t approve of their union and hadn’t wanted this for their daughter. Tim had secretly hoped they would come to their senses and realise that not showing up for Lucy today would mean burning their bridges with her forever. And from the tightening of his new wife’s hand in his, she had clearly hoped the same.
Tim squeezed her hand three times, a silent I love you, in an attempt to pull her back into the present and it seemed to work. Her smile which had only faltered briefly was back on her lips and she let him lead her back down the aisle to where they knew Angela had organised a private room for them to get away from the craziness of the wedding if they needed it.
They had planned to use the room for a mid-wedding quickie when they were too desperate to get their hands on each other but still had hosting duties to attend to, but Tim knew Lucy needed some space now so he tugged open the door and led them both inside.
‘I thought they’d show,’ she said, her voice muffled by his shirt where he had crushed her against his chest the second the door was closed. ‘I really thought they would.’
‘I’m sorry Luce,’ Tim said, letting his lips fall against her hair as he held her close.
‘They made their decision,’ she said firmly, pulling herself back slightly so she could look up at him. ‘And I made mine.’
She pushed herself up on her tiptoes and pressed her lips to his. Tim felt her hands tighten on his biceps and he let himself get lost in the sensation of her body against his. He managed to keep his hands firmly on her waist, not wanting to risk messing up her pristinely done hair and get crap from Tamara who he knew was behind the work of art. But he did back himself up against the door and bring Lucy with him, allowing it to hold up his weight as he held hers.
Lucy ran her tongue along the seam of his mouth, silently asking for permission which he was more than happy to give. If he could take her mind off of the empty chairs, he’d do whatever she wanted. Even if it meant when they walked into their reception a short while later, his shirt wasn’t buttoned correctly and he hadn’t been able to keep his hands out of her hair so both Tamara and Angela shot them knowing looks across the room.
But Lucy was smiling and she was his wife. And that was the only thing that mattered.

Miss Me While You Sleep (1/?)
Premise: When a stalker targets pop star Lucy Chen, her manager insists on hiring Tim Bradford as her shadow. But she’s not making it easy for her new bodyguard.
Fandom: The Rookie Ship: Tim Bradford x Lucy Chen (Chenford) Rating: Teen. Category: Bodyguard AU Words: 1,215
A/N: This story is inspired by a hurt/comfort prompt sent by @cariantha. This fic got away from me and I decided to make it a mini series (the prompt will be featured in part 2). I'm using Bodyguard AU prompts 2 & 3 from @creativepromptsforwriting. Tagging for reblog to @creativepromptfills.
Tim Bradford stood military straight inside the entrance of the luxury condo in Wilshire. The black suit, white shirt and gray tie that was his uniform fit comfortably on his muscular frame.
Whatever misgivings he had about his new job, his employer knew the importance of their bodyguards — correction, security professionals — matching their clientele’s vibe. And that meant paying for custom suits, streetwear and whatever else, designed by an up-and-coming LA designer.
Tim checked his watch. If he’d known it would take this long to convince a spoiled pop star she needed protection from an obsessed stalker, he’d have brought popcorn and a gun magazine to pass the time.
He scanned the soaring ceilings, expensive but minimalist furnishings and the grand piano facing the floor-to-ceiling glass wall overlooking the LA skyline. The walls held a mix of dreamy watercolors, dramatic black and white photographs, framed magazine covers and commemorative gold records.
Crossing his arms in front, he strolled towards the glass wall and watched clouds drift lazily across sunny skies outside. And tried to ignore the loud voices from the room off to his right.
It was hard as his new client insisted on screaming at the top of her lungs, using the voice that had catapulted her from a nobody on a reality television singing competition to a household name to full effect.

Chenford + 5x19 speculation fic... their relationship is put to the test ❤️
When Tim quietly pushes Lucy's apartment door open at 10:30 that night, the last thing he expects to find is his girlfriend pacing back and forth across the floor, her hair falling out of the messy bun she has piled on the top of her head.
"Hey," she says, giving him a distracted smile, still pacing.
"Hi yourself," he answers, raising an eyebrow at her in question. "Is everything okay? I figured you'd be in bed by now."
She shakes her head. "No, I'm too wired to sleep."
Oh yay, Tim thinks to himself, internally groaning. He had really been looking forward to collapsing into bed and snuggling up with her the second he walked through the door- he was pretty much dead on his feet. Taking a deep breath in an effort to keep his brain functioning for at least a few more minutes, he slowly sinks down onto one of her barstools, giving her his full attention.
"What's wrong? Is the detectives exam stressing you out?"
"No, it's not that," she says, worrying at her bottom lip, standing on the opposite end of the kitchen. "It's more about you said this morning, about us having to get used to not seeing each other as much."
"Yeah, and I said we'll figure it out, right?"
"Well yeah... but how?"
Tim shakes his head, his brain at a loss for the moment. "Well I don't know right this minute."
"I mean, it's not like we have any control over the hours we'll be working," she starts, Tim swearing he can physically see the gears turning in her head.
"Right..."
"And it's not like I'm going to ask you to leave Metro or anything."
"You better not, you're the one who got me there in the first place," he jokes, giving her a look. "And you know I'd never keep you from going after your dreams."
"I know," she says, smiling softly at him. "But then where does that leave us?"
Tim takes a second to study her hesitant expression, his eyes narrowing. "I feel like you have an answer to this that you want me to get to, but I'm just not getting there," he says honestly. "What are you thinking?"
Lucy sighs, her teeth continuing their assault on her bottom lip. "I don't know- I don't know if it sounds crazy or not. I’m not very good at this kind of stuff.”
“At what kind of stuff?”
She shrugs, not meeting his eyes. “I don’t know, all this serious relationship stuff. I’ve never really been in one before.”
“Is that what this is?” Tim teases, smiling at the incredulous look she gives him. He holds his hands up in defense. “Hey, we haven’t really had that talk yet, you know, the feelings talk?”
She makes her way towards him, her smile almost patronizing. “I thought it was implied.”
He lifts his shoulders, feigning nonchalance. “But it is nice to hear every once in a while, you know,” he says, his voice low, a sliver of truth seeping into his words.
She’s standing in front of him now, close enough for Tim to feel the heat radiating off her body. “Lay it on me,” he continues, staring into her eyes.
“Well, I was thinking that between you having to run home after every shift to feed Kojo and bring him out before having to drive all the way over here, that’s already taking up a lot of our time.”
Tim nods along. “I don’t know,” she says again, her eyes dropping to the floor. “If we could somehow find a way to get rid of all the back and forth, that might help.”
Tim leans back a little, his heart giving a little lurch in his chest. "Like moving in together, you mean?" he clarifies, his eyes searching hers.
She smiles sheepishly. "Yeah, something like that."
"Are you sure you're ready for that? I mean when Chris brought it up not even half a year ago-"
She makes a face at him. "That's different."
"How?"
She sighs, cocking her head. "Do you really need me to spell it out for you?"
When he doesn't answer, she steps closer, looping her arms around his neck, her face just far enough away that he's not going cross-eyed looking at her.
"I know we haven't been together very long, but, I've never felt this way before about anyone, ever," she says, her fingers gently running through the hair at the nape of his neck. "You feel like home to me, and I keep finding myself wanting to spend more time with you, not less."
"I feel the same way," he murmurs, leaning forward to gently rest his forehead against hers.
"Yeah?"
"Yeah." He kisses her then, softly, gently, and can feel her smiling against his lips.
"So I'm not being crazy?" she asks, her voice gaining more confidence.
"No," he says, giving her one more kiss, because for some reason, with her, he can never get enough. "I think it's a great idea."
Pulling back, he attempts to stifle a yawn, but is entirely unsuccessful. "So," he continues, rubbing his hands together. "Now that we have that figured out, can we go to bed please?"
"Really?" she snorts, looking at him like he's crazy. "That's all you have to say? It was that easy? I've been agonizing over this all day!"
Tim shrugs, crossing his arms. "I don't know, it's as they say- when you know, you know."
"And you know?" she asks, cocking an eyebrow.
Pushing himself to standing, Tim stretches his arms up and over his head before he brings one down around her shoulders, pulling her tight against his side as he smiles down at her, unable to resist kissing her for the third time. "Oh, I know," he mumbles against her lips, gently steering her towards the bedroom, wanting nothing more than to crawl under the covers and fall asleep with her tucked safely in his arms, knowing they'll have many more nights together just like this.

Unraveling Desires
Request: Ohhhh those are great! ❤️
39. "Another kiss like that and I won't be held responsible for my actions." with Tim Bradford pleeeease 😊
Prompt: Another kiss like that and I won't be held responsible for my actions.
Pairings: Tim Bradford x Police K-9 Officer!Wife!Reader
Warnings:
Kiss Prompts
Masterlist
You and Tim had known each other for a while now and awhile means that you both are married and have been for 5 years. You two truly loved each other and wouldn’t trade each other for other people. You two were happy with each other and you wouldn’t change that for anything. The both of you sometimes had the same shift and while he was with a trainee you were out on your own and loving it you were also a K-9 handler, you absolutely adored Lucy Chen and she was a good friend you also have her dirt on Tim that she could use against him. When he found out you were doing this you usually got it when he saw you next but you weren’t complaining.
It just happened that you both had the same shift this time and you loved it because you could tease your husband and he wouldn’t be able to do anything about it. You had just woken up to the sound of your alarm going off. You laid there in a bed for a few minutes watching your husband sleep and then smirked when a brilliant idea came to your mind. You leaned over and snuggled into him and then you slowly started to kiss him. First you started at the shell of his ear and then slowly made your way down his neck. He started to stir but had yet to wake up. You smirked and continued your attack and you slowly started to kiss his shirtless chest and trailing your hand up and down his stomach getting close to where you knew he needed you the most but you didn’t. You started to kiss down his sternum and then to his stomach and right before you got to his underwear started you looked up and noticed him looking at you and you smiled “Good morning.” You said and then got up and strutted to the bathroom and you could just see the look on his face.
“Hey, get over here and finish what you started.” He said sitting up on his elbows and you turned around with your toothbrush in your hand.
“What if I don’t?” You asked after you spit out the toothpaste and rinsed out your mouth. Then crawled into bed and startled him. He smirked and then flipped you over where he was now straddling you and he started kissing you.
“You’ll find out.” He said and then kissed you and trailed down until he got to your pajama pants and then stopped and then looked up and smirked then got off and started to get ready for the day.
“Fucking tease.” You said and he smirked.
“You started it, wife.” He said
“Oh, it’s on, husband.” You said and the both of you got ready. Where he changes at the station you don’t since you have your K-9 partner, Rocky. Once changed you walked out of the bedroom to where Rocky was kenneled and let him out. You let him out and then fed him. When you got done Tim had walked out of the bedroom and into the kitchen, Rocky greeted him and then you were handing him his coffee cup.
“Wanna try and meet up for lunch?” You asked him and he nodded.
“You know I do; everyone loves seeing you and Rocky.” He said and at the sound of his name the Mahogany colored Belgian Malinois perked up and barked at his name and you and Tim laughed. You walked over to where you kept his stuff and got his collar that said ‘POLICE K-9 DO NOT TOUCH’ you called him over and spoke the command to sit in German and he did so and you clipped the collar on. You then slipped his bullet proof vest on. Tim looked at you in awe. He loved it when you spoke a different language. “You two have a good day. Rocky, you protect our girl.” He said and he barked as if saying ‘You got it!’ and then walked over and kissed you and you kissed back and off you went with your loyal partner out the door and into the K-9 police cruiser. Normally all police cars had to stay at the station but K-9 handlers were allowed to take theirs home because they have to transport their animal.
You drove to the station to check in and start your day. The drive was pretty quick and you made it there in no time just about the time your husband pulled in at the same time and you rolled your eyes. You parked your cruiser in the designated parking spot and got out letting Rocky out at the same time. Tim walked over and waited for you. “Were you tailing us?” You asked with a hint of playfulness in your voice.
“Now why would I do that?” He asked and then pecked you on the lips and you pushed him away.
“We’re at work.” You said but smirked because you and he knew that you didn’t care.
“Your point is?” He asked and you shook your head and the both of you started your walk in. You had different bosses since you were in different departments but it was on the same floor. You once again parted ways while he got dressed and you went to check in with your boss. Once you were done you walked by the briefing room and smirked seeing your husband sitting there and when he caught sight of Rocky, he looked at you and smiled and then you were on your way. Wade Grey caught this but didn’t say anything. Both you and Tim were well respected in both of your departments and they knew not to mess with you.
By the time they were out on the road you had been out for at least 30 minutes and when you heard them check in you smirked “Time to have some fun.” You said and got on the radio. “About time you guys got to work.” You said and waited for a response and Tim was the first.
“Aren’t you supposed to be working?” Tim asked
“I am. Been working for about 30 minutes now.” You said with a smirk and you could just see him roll his eyes. It was silent for about 10 minutes then Lucy came over the radio. The over the radio banter went back and forth. You all answered some calls and some you ended up together on. Nolan, Jackson, Angela, and Talia loved you and when they saw you and Rocky in action they were always in awe. After the call Tim met you at your cruiser leaning up on it.
“You’re so sexy when you’re in action.” He said and you rolled your eyes but smiled as you put Rocky into his built-in kennel and you left the door open.
“So are you.” You replied and he smirked just then another call came in for a K-9 unit and you responded and then turned to your husband “Duty calls.” You said and closed Rocky’s door and hopped into the driver's side and headed off to the call. The call involved some tracking but, in the end, you got the suspect.
Lunch time rolled around and you met Tim and the others at the usual place and went and sat with them while taking Rocky with you so he could stretch his legs. “Y/N how do you keep this man in line?” Angela asked with a smirk and Tim rolled his eyes and you laughed.
“It's easy. I just withhold sex. Works like a charm every time.” You said and they laughed with you while he rolled his eyes but he knew it was true.
“Do you like working in the K-9 department?” Nolan asked and you smiled and nodded.
“I love it. Rocky here is my companion and he listens and doesn’t talk back.” You said and they laughed.
“Hey, I listen.” Tim said
“Yes, but you also talk back sometimes.” You said and he rolled his eyes “Love you.” You spoke
“I love you too.” He replied
“How did you meet?” Lucy asked
“I actually met Tim on a call and he was so impressed by Rocky and I that he asked me out and the rest is history.” You said and before they could respond your radio went off requesting K-9 back-up and you responded and off you and Rocky went.
You didn’t see any of them again for the rest of the day and night. The next time you saw Tim was when he had gotten home and you were already home. You had already changed and had dinner going when he walked through the door. “There’s my sexy wife.” He said and you smiled and walked over and wrapped his arms around your hips.
“And there is my handsome husband.” You said turning your head to kiss him. “How was your day?” You asked him when you released each other from the kiss.
“Long. Had a lot more calls this time.” He said “Yours?” He asked going to fridge and opening it to grab two beers and petting Rocky’s head.
“It was good. We had a lot of calls too and some traffic stops.” You said and he nodded and took the beer when he offered it.
“Nobody got hurt?” He asked and you shook your head.
“Nope, just the suspects that decided to hide or run.” You said chuckling and so did he. You turned off the stove “Supper is ready.” You said and he grabbed two plates and handed you one. You both got your plates and went and sat down and began to eat.
Supper was eaten in a comfortable setting with some talking about anything and everything. It was done you went over and startled his lap and kissed him with passion and fire and he responded. When you pulled away his pupils were blown and you had no doubt yours was too. “Another kiss like that and I won't be held responsible for my actions.” He said and a smirk grew on your face and you kissed him again with the same ferocity as the first kiss and he knew what you wanted. He got up quickly knocking the chair over and then started for the bedroom planning on finishing what you both started that morning. You were in for a long night and you were so ready for it and so was he.

Clean Cut
Tim Bradford x F!Nurse!Reader
Warnings: Mentions of bullets, war, shrapnel, anxiety, worry, car accidents. Slightly angsty.
Word Count: 1.2k
A/N: Okay so I just caught up with all The Rookie seasons and I’m just LIVING for Chenford. Like LIVING. buuuuuut I noticed there wasn’t much Tim x Reader fic out there soooooo I figured why not! This idea came to my head at some point when I was watching and I also have like a whole story of their life beyond and before this moment but enjoy this little reworked snippet from 2x08.
The Rookie Taglist: @drabbles-mc @justreblogginfics
It had felt like a long day already and you had only been clocked in at the hospital for two hours. You still had 10 hours left in your shift and it felt like you experienced a whole day’s worth already. Being a corpsman for a Marine squad prepared you for a lot but sometimes the uniqueness of LA and the people who resided in it and tended to need your RN medical services at St. Stevens ran you for your money.
Currently, you were updating patient charts during the lull that was likely to last all of two seconds but it beat staying an extra hour to finish your paperwork likely unpaid because the hospital rarely approved overtime for RNs.
“Wanna tell me why it’s so crazy for a Tuesday?”
The statement from your coworker caused you to look at them over your shoulder and let out a laugh.
“I wish I had an answer to that, but I also feel like anything I say will jinx it even more.” You pushed the computer cart against the wall and moved over to your coworkers cart. “You’ve got like 15 pages here, what is this?” You picked up the manila folder that was larger than your normal ER patient folders.
“Police car accident. There’s a few of them in the ER right now, these things always include tons of paperwork. Everyone needs to cover their asses.”
Your heart started to beat faster at the mention of a police accident but what really caused you to go into panic mode was seeing your husband's name on the report.
Before you could even answer your co-worker you were moving down the stairs, knowing the elevator would take too long. You knew the elevator would probably be quicker but the thought of standing still while you waited for and in it would drive your mind crazy so rushing down the stairs was the better alternative.
Tim was sitting on one of the ER beds, the scene of it caused you to stop for a minute. It wasn’t the first time you’d seen Tim hurt waiting to be treated. In all honesty this was probably the tamest medical treatment scenario you two had been in together. He looked fine from afar, but that didn’t stop the worry from boiling in your gut.
“What happened?” You were next to him within seconds, the worry being the fuel of moving you from the staircase entrance to his side in seconds.
“I rear ended a civilian.” Tim knew better than to try and calm you down with pleasantries and relaxing mantras.
“Jesus.” Your hand moved to your pocket in search of your pen light. Quickly, you flashed it in front of his eyes, searching for his eyes to constrict and then dilate when you moved the light away.
“They already did this.” Tim’s voice was neutral, but you knew he was annoyed.
“Humor me.” Your head tilted, now your own annoyance was clear to him.
His eyes softened as they met yours and he nodded which gave you the okay to keep running through the trauma checklist in your head.
“This isn’t like you.” Tim said after a few minutes of silence between you as he humored you by lifting up his arms as you pressed down on his ribs and checked his reflexes.
“In what way?” You talked as you continued to look him over.
“I’ve come home and told you I’ve gotten shot at and you barely react, I tell you that I got into a car accident and you’re acting like I have internal bleeding.” Tim’s eyebrows raised.
“Did they do a CT scan? You could have internal bleeding. Especially if the airbags went off.”
“Doc.” The use of the nickname only 13 people in the world knew you as caused you to stop your examination of Tim and stand in front of him, slightly defeated.
“If I worried about every close call you encounter everyday, I’d be dysfunctional. This.” You pointed towards him and the bed, “This is tangible. This actually happened.”
Tim nodded and a smirk slightly filled his face.
“You doubtin’ me, Sarge?” You frowned as you asked him, using your own nickname for him.
“No,” Tim let out a chuckle and shook his head before looking back up at you. “I know better than to ever doubt you.”
“Smart man.” Officer Lopez walked up to the two of you with a smile. “How’s he doin’?” She looked between the both of you.
“He’s fine. No signs of a concussion,” you looked at Angela and then back at Tim, “and no signs of internal bleeding.” You smirked at him knowing he was going to give you one back.
“Give us a minute, Lopez?” Tim stood up and ripped the hospital bracelet off his wrist.
“Yea, just wanted to let you know the break lights were cut in the car you hit, foul play, you’ll likely be in the clear.” She explained while looking at the both of you, relief coming as a sigh from both you and Tim. “I’ll be in the lobby.” She nodded at him and squeezed your arm to say goodbye before leaving the ER.
“We goin’ back to the conversation we were having or a new one?” You asked Tim as he towered over you.
“You pulled shrapnel out of my abdomen in Afghanistan and you look more worried checking me for a concussion.” Tim said with his arms crossed. “What’s going on?”
“Nothing.” Your one worded answer wasn’t convincing.
“Don’t lie to me.” Tim said more seriously than any of his other statements.
You sighed, “Like I said, this is tangible. In Afghanistan, we weren’t exactly given the space to worry. Here, I feel like it’s all I have to hold onto. But again, if I held onto every worry I’d be dysfunctional. I know you can handle yourself when bullets are flying, when shit goes sideways, it’s these out of your control scenarios that just get me flustered.” You explained moving your hands around as you talked.
Tim brought you in for a hug, knowing nothing he’d say could change anything. “You do realize, I’m the one that rear-ended the civilian, not the other way around, right? Totally in my control.” He teased you.
“Not according to Angela.” You corrected him and he chuckled.
“I’ll see you tonight.” He placed a quick kiss on the top of your head.
“See you tonight, I already texted Angela all the concussion signs in case we missed anything.” Letting your last bit of worry out.
“You haven’t missed a single diagnosis or injury since I met you, Doc!” He called out from a few feet from you.
“You know, I’m technically not a doc, anymore, Sarge!” You yelled out to him.
He turned around with his arms up as he continued to walk backwards. “And I’m not technically a Sargeant anymore.”
“Old habits die hard!” You yelled back just before the elevator doors opened and he stepped backwards into the elevator flashing you a quick smile before the doors closed and he was back on duty.

Chenford are one of my top ships and I love reading fanfics about them. But for some reason I've never really written for them, save for one work. So it's time to give it another go. Especially after that gut-wrenching breakup.
Just to be clear: I'm not picking any sides, I love Lucy, I love Tim. I understand Tim but I also understand and empathize with Lucy.
I don't own the show or the characters, they all belong to The Rookie writers, producers and the production company. This is only fanfiction.
Of Love And Efforts
All Lucy remembers is being thrown back against the wall by a wave of explosion. She remembers the heat, the smell of fire and smoke, the taste of her own blood, the sound of shattered windows and screams. Then everything fades to black.
And when she finally comes to, the first thing she hears is a steady beeping of the heart monitor. She smells the distinctive sterile air of hospital and feels someone's iron grip on her hand.
It takes some effort to finally open her eyes. She shifts to look at a person holding on to her hand like it's a lifeline and the movement causes Lucy's whole body to ache. She groans and immediately there's a face in her line of vision. Such a familiar and dear face but a face Lucy'd rather not see right now.
"Hey! Easy there!" he whispers.
Lucy looks at him and her heart squeezes painfully in her chest at how wrecked he looks. Eyes bloodshed with bags under them, scruff like a shadow over his face, wrinkles that are suddenly deeper and hair with more grey in it than ever before.
Lucy has to squash love and empathy that are basically reflective when it comes to Tim. Because Tim doesn't have the same love and empathy for her and for Lucy to move on she has to think of herself first. And the fact that Tim's here doesn't change that. He's here because of course he cares, Lucy knows that. But it was too easy for him to just walk away and he came back running only when Lucy almost got blown up. Seems like too high a price to pay to have someone at your side.
That's why Lucy snatches her hand from Tim's and asks in a dejected voice:
"What are you doing here?"
"What do you mean? How can I not be here? You almost died!"
"Yeah but that's none of your concern anymore".
"Don't do this! Why are you doing this?"
"Sounds familiar. I think that's exactly what I asked" Lucy throws in Tim's face.
He lands on a hospital chair heavily.
"It's not about you. You have to know that. It's me. But this doesn't change the fact that I'll always come running if anything happens to you. Because I love you. This will never change" Tim looks at her pleadingly and with all sincerity in the world.
But Lucy just cannot deal with him, not right now.
"This is not how you love someone. So you can shove whatever feelings you have and get the hell out of here".
Tim just looks at her for a moment with tears in his eyes. Then he nods quietly and gets up.
"Take care of yourself. Please" are his last words before he leaves.
Lucy falls back on a hospital pillow and lets out a long breath. She knows she's done the right thing, protected her boundaries. Then why does her chest feel like it's on fire?
"Because you still love him too" her mind whispers.
And she really does. Probably always will. But Tim made his choice and it wasn't her and them. In the end, it was him who thought they weren't worth the effort.

Beneath Your Beautiful: Reckless Behavior
A wave of guilt washes over Tim as he glances down at his phone — Lucy’s pretty face lights up the screen as the device begins to vibrate. He hesitates.
He’s technically still supposed to be on desk duty today, but he’d just been getting so damn antsy cooped up in his windowless office all morning. Surely a few hours taking low-risk calls on patrol for the afternoon couldn’t actually hurt anything?
It was a short-sighted impulse that he’s now regretting. What if she’s back at the station today looking for him? He hates the idea of not being there for her.
He shakes himself out of his guilt trip — the only certainty right now is that screening her call will guarantee he isn’t there for her in this moment.
He hurriedly swipes across the screen to answer before the call goes to voicemail, “Lucy?”
“Tim.” And there’s something in her voice that immediately puts him on edge.

give me back my girlhood (it was mine first)
✰ 𝐩𝐚𝐢𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠: Tim Bradford x Lucy Chen
✰ 𝐬𝐮𝐦𝐦𝐚𝐫𝐲: Tim thinks Lucy has fully healed from Caleb. He is quickly proven wrong when they start dating.
✰ 𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬: Tim Bradford would burn the entire world just to see Lucy Chen smile, trauma, ptsd, takes place around season 5, canon divergence, hints to autistic!Lucy (meltdowns, going nonverbal, stimming, etc), Lucy had seizures after Caleb, Tamara is Chenfords kid, can you tell I have a soft spot for Tamara, Title is from Would’ve Could’ve Should’ve by Taylor Swift, tagging @natashasera
don’t forget to read and reblog, and i do not give permission for my works to be posted anywhere other than tumblr. thank you.
Tim thought that the transition from just friends to in a relationship would be easy for him and Lucy, but he was quickly proven wrong. He also thought that Lucy had healed from what Caleb and Rosalind had done to her, but once again, he was proven wrong. She may have healed enough to continue day to day life in her normal manner, but when it came to their relationship, almost everything triggered her, and it broke Tim’s heart.
The first time Tim had noticed that Lucy was being triggered was when they went on their first date. Lucy had ordered a drink, an old fashioned to be exact. She had taken a sip of it when it arrived at their table, and Tim saw how a line appeared between her two eyebrows.
“Everything okay, Luce?” He asked quietly, prepared to flag down the waitress and have her remake the drink if it wasn’t up to Lucy’s standards. Lucy nodded slightly, but pushed the cup away. As she did so, Tim saw her hand shaking.
“I-It tastes funny.” She whispered so quietly that Tim barely heard her. Tim moved closer to her in the booth.
“It tastes funny?” He asked, and she nodded, tears beginning to form.
“It doesn’t taste normal.” She said, her breathing picking up speed. Tim grasped her chin, guiding her eyes to his, and his stomach dropped when he saw the fear in them, realizing what was going on. Her drink tasted different to her, and it brought back memories to when she was drugged. Tim’s heart broke as she whimpered, tears beginning to spill over and roll down her cheeks, her breath speeding up.
“Luce, baby,” He whispered. “You’re safe. I know that what you’re feeling feels really real right now, but it’s not. You’re here with me, Tim, and you’re safe.” He said, still holding her face. “Can you nod if you can hear my voice, Goosey?” He said, and Lucy immediately nodded. “Good girl,” he praised, and smiled slightly when he saw her breathing slow slightly.
“Can you tell me something that you can see?” He asked, and her eyes darted around briefly, before settling on Tim.
“Y-You,” She stuttered, and Tim smiled.
“You can see me?” He inquired, and she nodded. “Good girl.”
He continued to quiz her on her surroundings until she was back in the present, and had calmed down. She was still upset, but Tim knew it was more out of embarrassment than anything. She had wrapped both her arms around his left one, and was resting her head on his shoulder, looking down at her lap.
“How are you feeling?” He asked, and pressed a kiss to the top of her head. Lucy didn’t respond with words, instead she grunted slightly, and snuggled into his shoulder even more. “Baby,” he whispered, and eased his arm out of her grip, and wrapped it around her shoulders. “How are you feeling?”
Lucy, once again, didn’t respond, and buried her face in his chest. “Okay, okay,” He soothed, helping her get comfortable. “Do you want to eat, or do you want to go home?” He asked and Lucy shakily pointed to her plate, and Tim pulled it over, handing her her fork. Lucy then sat up, and slowly began eating her food. Tim went back to his own food once he was sure she was okay, but he kept his hand on her lower back.
—
Tim had also noticed that Lucy seemed to fear arguments and disagreements with him. It was something he had taken note of when she first came back to work after Caleb. She was quiet, only talking when he spoke to her, and then if they got in as much as the slightest disagreement, she would shut it down and just agree with him, no matter how he knew she felt about the topic. He thought that she was just taking time to readjust to their relationship being strictly Rookie-TO at work, but he realized as soon as they started dating that she had developed a fear of men, and a fear of upsetting them.
Tim had asked her what she wanted for dinner, and she had said she didn’t care, and that he could pick. Normally, Tim would be okay with that, but since asking her out, he had been making all the decisions in the relationship, in things that didn’t involve work. He had insisted that she choose, and she refused, and they went back and forth until Lucy completely shut down and stopped talking, which made Tim angry.
And he knows it shouldn’t have made him angry, but he couldn’t help it. He wanted her to be able to eat what she wanted around him, and he didn’t want her to feel like he was controlling her or the relationship in anyway. He knew that she needed to feel in control, and he wanted her to be able to feel that.
“Lucy, just tell me what you want to eat, and I will go and get it!” He said, exasperated, and Lucy shook her head aggressively, and turned away from him. “No,” he said, reaching out for her. “C’mon, talk to me, I just wanna help-“ he stopped talking when he saw her flinch away from him. He then watched through the reflection of the tv the fear that had appeared on her face.
She then whimpered, and then shot up, running to her bedroom, sobs falling from her lips as she went. Tim immediately followed her, instantly feeling shitty about the way he had talked to her. He felt even shittier when he walked into her bedroom and saw her hiding behind the chair in the corner of her room by the window, the soft grey blanket that he bought her her first night in the hospital after Caleb giving away her position, the material peaking out from behind the legs.
“Goosey,” Tim whispered, crouching down close to the chair, but also keeping his distance so that she didn’t feel trapped. “I’m sorry,” he started. “I shouldn’t have spoken like that. I didn’t mean to scare you. If you don’t feel like you can choose what to eat right now, that’s okay. I can choose for us.”
He paused, and waited to hear if Lucy would respond at all. After a moment, he heard her voice say something, but he couldn’t make out what she said.
“Can you repeat that, Luce? I didn’t hear you.” He said, and Lucy’s voice could be heard again, this time louder.
“Sorry,” she whispered. “Sorry I made you mad.” She continued, and Tim sighed, moving slightly closer.
“Goosey, you didn’t make me mad at all. I just want you to be able to feel in control of your body and your choices, thats why I wanted to know what you wanted to eat. I shouldn’t have pressured you like I did, and I should have listened to your body language.”
“‘m sorry, please don’ hurt me,” she sobbed. “Didn’t mean it, I’ll be good,”
Tim wiped away the tear that ran down his face after he realized that Lucy was having a flashback.
“I want you to listen to me, Lucy.” He said calmly. “You’re here with me, in your bedroom, in your apartment in Los Angeles. Caleb is dead, and you’re safe. He can’t hurt you anymore, I promise.” He soothed, and after a few more moments of silence, he heard a sniffle, followed by a small “okay,” and then some shuffling.
Lucy crawled out from behind the arm chair and looked up at Tim, slightly hiding her face behind her blanket. Tim gently held out his arms, letting her know she can come to him for comfort if thats what she needed. She slowly inched her way over to him, and fell into his arms. He wrapped his arms around her, and hugged her as tight to her body as he knew she liked, and stood up slowly, lifting her in the process.
He let her cry out her emotions as he slowly rocked her back and forth, hoping the motion would help her to regulate her emotions. She eventually calmed down, and she snuggled into his shoulder, sniffling slightly. He rubbed her back as he walked out into the living room, whispering in her ear as he did.
“Do you want me to choose what we eat? Would that make it easier on you?” He asked, and he nodded, taking a mental note of what to do next time she struggles like that. She needed to feel in control, but sometimes she needed him to make decisions for her, and he was okay with that.
—
The thing that triggered Lucy that hurt him the most was the sound of a tattoo gun. Before Caleb, Lucy loved tattoos, and loved getting tattoos. She had often talked to not only him, but to their fellow officers, about tattoo’s that she wanted and was planning on getting. Tim had known that she had been tattoo’d by Caleb, he saw it when he was in the ambulance with her, and they had moved her shirt in order to do an ECG after she had her third consecutive seizure. His heart had clenched seeing the black ink on her rib cage, and in that moment he had hoped that she was asleep when the tattoo had been done.
But of course, God must hate him, so she had been awake. Something he had no clue about until Tamara had asked them both to accompany her to her first ever tattoo appointment, where she was also getting a date, the date that the three of them had stood in front of the judge finalizing Lucy and Tim adopting Tamara.
Lucy said yes immediately, without even thinking. Tim knew why, of course. Tamara had been let down by everyone in her life, and Lucy was determined to never let her down. Tim didn’t think anything of it, and was even thinking of getting his own tattoo, with both Lucy and Tamara’s birthdays.
Everything was fine until Tamara was lying on the table, her arm out for the tattoo artist, prepped and ready for the ink. The tattoo gun began to buzz, and Lucy tensed up beside him.
“Are you okay?” Tim said under his breath to Lucy, resting his hand on her knee, his other hand holding Tamara’s free one.
“Mhm,” She said, eyes locked on the tattoo gun where it was permanently marking up her daughters skin. “Jus’ need to go to the bathroom,” She said, a little louder, and made brief eye contact with Tamara, clearly trying to tell the girl that everything was fine. Tamara nodded, her brows furrowing for a moment, but then relaxing after Lucy left the room.
Tim waited a few minutes, before following her. “I’m just gonna go check on Mom, okay?” He said to Tamara. “I won’t be gone long.” She nodded, and Tim left the room.
He looked towards the lobby, and could see Lucy outside, so he immediately joined her, where he found her near tears, looking up into the sky to preserve her makeup.
“Luce-“ He started to say, but Lucy cut him off.
“I’m fine.” She said, her voice short.
Tim shook his head. “No, you’re not.” He said, and grabbed her hand. “You’re not, and that’s okay.”
Lucy shook her head, and ripped her hand out of Tim’s grip. “No, its not, Tim!” She said, running her hands through her curls. “Because this is just another thing Caleb has taken from me.” She ranted. “I can’t even sit with my daughter while she gets her first tattoo, I-I can’t get any of the tattoo’s that I wanted to get, I can’t even listen to the buzzing noise of the gun because that’s what I woke up to after he took me-“
“Oh, Goosey,” Tim said sadly, immediately wrapping her up in his arms. “I’m so sorry. I had no idea you were awake when he did that to you. Had I known that, we could have explained to Tamara why you couldn’t go, or we could have brought your headphones-“
“I don’t need them!” Lucy yelled, pulling out of Tim’s arms, and crouching down, covering her ears wit her hands, her eyes squeezing shut. Tim sighed, and sat next to her, being mindful to not touch her until she asked or initiated contact.
“Yes, you do, Goosey, and thats okay.” He said. “I’m not going to judge you for it, Tamara certainly isn’t going to judge you for it, and any person with more than half a braincell wouldn’t judge you for it. I suggested it because when you do wear them out of the house, you are able to cope better, and that’s all I wanted. And as for him taking the ability to get tattoo’s from you, he didn’t. If you really want to get another tattoo, I’m sure we can find a trauma informed tattoo artist that is willing to work with you on this.” He explained, as he wrapped an arm around her after she removed her hands from her ears, and rested her head on his shoulder. “But it’s entirely up to you, okay?”
Lucy nodded, and sniffed. Tim kissed her on the head, and helped her stand up. She took a deep breath, and looked towards the tattoo shop door. “We should go back in,” she said, and Tim looked at her.
“Are you sure you want to?” He asked. “You don’t have to, I can go back in and you can wait in the truck if it’s going to be too hard for you.”
Lucy shook her head. “No, I-I think I was just a little unprepared, and that’s why it triggered me. I’m prepared to hear the noise, so I’ll be okay.” She said. “Tamara wanted both of us with her and I’m not going to let her down.” She finished, as she led him back inside, and into the room, where the artist was bandaging up Tamara’s tattoo.
“Can I see it, bubba,” Lucy asked, walking up to Tamara’s side immediately. Tamara holds her arm out, while looking up worriedly at Lucy.
“Are you okay, Mom?” She asked, and Lucy nodded, running a hand through Tamara’s hair.
“Yeah, baby, I’m okay.” She said, assuring the teen. “I don’t want you to worry, okay?”
Tamara blinked, her lower lip wobbling slightly. “I’m always going to worry about you,” she whispered. “You’re my mom, and I know I don’t know everything that you went through but I know enough to know that you got triggered. I didn’t even think about that before asking, I’m sorry,” she said, a tear falling from her eye.
“T,” Tim whispered, moving to her head and pressing a kiss to her head as he sat next to her on the table. “It’s okay. I don’t think any of us really thought about it.” He assured her, and Lucy nodded, sitting on the table as well.
“Yeah. It did trigger me, but I removed myself from the situation, worked through what I was feeling, and then prepared myself to come back. It’s okay, I promise.” She said, cupping Tamara’s cheek, and rubbing her thumb back and forth.
“Okay,” Tamara said, and as soon as Lucy seemed to be sure that Tamara was okay, she turned back and looked at the tattoo. “I love it, baby,” She said.
“Me, too.” Tim said, smiling down at his daughter.
“Now,” Lucy said, smiling up at Tim. “Your dad just needs to get one, and we’ll be all inked up.”
Tim shook his head but laughed along with his girls.
—
Lucy wasn’t fully healed from Caleb, but Tim was going to do everything in his power to make sure that one day, she would be. Caleb had taken a lot from her, but Tim was going to make sure that she was able to reclaim what he had taken, no matter the cost.

a battle between heart and mind
Summary - Her heart wanted to pull him into her arms and fall back to what they had been but her mind knew she wasn’t ready for that yet, they weren’t ready.
But he was offering her small doses, small steps towards being them again. But was that enough?
Post 6x10 fic
Notes - I know the elevator scene wasn’t to everyone’s taste but I could feel all the hope for healing between them and I think Tim admitting he ruined what they had was a big step for him. I’m hopeful (certain!) we will get Chenford back next season and this will only make them stronger but I couldn’t resist writing a little something for them with that hope in mind. I hope you enjoy ❤️ AO3 Link
‘And I will spend the rest of my life trying to pay it back, in whatever small doses you allow,’ Tim said, his voice gentle, kind and caring. This was the Tim that Lucy missed with every fibre of her being.
She had to clench her fists at her side so as not to reach and stroke her fingers across his cheek, gently trace the bruise by his eye, find the comfort in his arms that she had the last time she was in this elevator with him.
‘Goodnight,’ he said when the doors dinged open a moment later, although that moment felt like an eternity to Lucy as she battled with her heart and her mind. The former wanted to touch him and hold him, the latter knowing they weren’t there yet, he had hurt her and he had broken them. His words were an apology, a healing balm but the wound was still smarting, still too fresh to completely heal.
She watched as he walked down the corridor towards the parking garage, the same corridor just weeks before they would have walked down arm in arm or with his large hand encompassing her smaller one, giggling about their plans for the evening or just enjoying the comfortable silence. When some people took the leap from friends to something more, there was an awkwardness to it, an unnatural gait that took a while to get through but for them it had felt natural. Like it was only logical that they would have ended up as something more. That falling in love was as easy as breathing, well once they got over the slightly awkward first date and worry that someone would spot them. It had never been awkward between them, they had just always been them.
She shook her head slightly, pulling herself back into the present. You couldn’t live in the past if you wanted to have any hope of the future you craved.
Lucy followed behind him a few paces back, the distance growing greater with her shorter strides not matching his longer ones. She hadn’t noticed how much he must have slowed down his pace when they walked together, she had never had to jog to keep up with him - they were always side by side. Just one of the many tiny things he had done without comment or pressure because he cared for her.
Loved her.
Loves her.
He had ruined it between them, and in that moment and the painful and bitter days that had followed she had felt like it was ruined beyond compare. But she realised she no longer felt that way.
He had listened to her and had gone to therapy, sure his choice of therapist hadn’t turned out to be the best but if you had asked her a year ago or even 6 weeks ago if Tim Bradford would go to a therapist of his own volition, Lucy would have laughed in your face. But he had admitted it, acknowledged that he thought it was helping him. He was trying.
And that’s all she had ever wanted him to do, to try.
They were both a little messed up in their own way, she knew she was ladened with baggage from her parents and their disapproval and he was dealing with his own issues pertaining to his father and Isobel and she was sure many other things from years in a tough job. But together it hadn’t felt like either of them were a mess, or that their relationship was messy.
She hadn’t lied when she had said it was the most important relationship in her life. And that was before it truly became the most important relationship in her life.
She missed him.
She cared about him.
She still loved him and knew that no matter what happened she always would.
But she wouldn’t carry a torch for him. She wouldn’t be the girl who sat around and waited for a guy who didn’t care enough to fix what he had broken.
But hadn’t his words today proved to her that he cared enough to fix it. Hadn’t the conversation just now told her that he was taking responsibility for it, that he had owned up to his mistakes and knew that it couldn’t be fixed with a hug and a kiss. He wanted to prove to her that he had changed, to earn her back. Be the man she deserved.
She let her head fall back against the headrest, unsure how she had even made it into her car, her mind was too full of Tim to think straight.
It was always too full of Tim.
——————————————————————————
She had meant to drive back to her apartment. She truly had.
But here she was, parked outside his house, his truck in the driveway, the light on in the kitchen.
It was although in the battle between her heart and mind, the heart had won this round.
She didn’t know what she wanted to say to him, wasn’t sure she could even form a coherent sentence right now but her body was firmly on autopilot and she was out of her car before she could second guess herself.
As she approached the door, a wave of nostalgia washed over her. Although they had spent most nights at her apartment - her bed was far comfier and it was closer to the station meaning they could spend longer enjoying the aforementioned fact, they had also spent time here. He had kissed her on this porch, the ice cream they had bought to make sundaes with, abandoned and melting at their feet.
They once had almost had to strip down to their underwear on the very same porch having been caught in a torrential downpour on a walk with Kujo who had enjoyed the muddy puddles a little too much and proceeded to cover them both in mud which Tim was adamant couldn’t be brought into the house.
She had had a key to this door, one that she would use even if she wasn't sure he was home. He had told her it was her home too and she had always felt that way.
But now it felt different.
It felt like an unknown land, a line she wasn’t sure she had permission to cross. What had previously been welcoming now felt alien.
But she drew in a breath and raised her fist to knock, pushing down the worry bubbling up inside her.
‘Lucy,’ Tim said, confusion colouring his voice as he opened the door and saw her standing there. She watched as his eyes skimmed down her body quickly, not in a seductive manner but full of concern that she might be injured and that was the reason for her intrusion. ‘Are you okay?’
It wasn’t accusatory, if anything it was the opposite. It was full of care, full of concern and Lucy thought maybe she heard a twinge of hope woven between the words.
She nodded, ‘the elevator stopped before I could respond,’ she said, looking up at him, his familiar eyes soft with tiredness.
‘You didn’t need t-’ he started but stopped himself. ‘I just wanted to tell you, I didn’t expect you to say anything.’
‘I know you didn’t. And that’s why I wanted to.’
He took a small step back, leaving a gap wide enough for her to pass through. ‘Do you want to come in?’
Lucy nodded, ignoring the sparks of electricity that crackled across her skin as her arm brushed his chest lightly as she entered the house.
‘Drink?’ He offered as the awkwardness of the situation settled on the both of them.
‘Just water, please,’ she responded.
Tim walked over to the small kitchenette and busied himself with fetching her a glass of water. Lucy took a moment to look around.
Nothing had changed since she had last been here, the framed photographs of Genny and the boys still hung on the wall, the couch was still perfectly positioned in front of the flat screen TV for optimal sports viewing. Her eyes lingered on a frame on the nest of tables next to the couch. It was of her.
More accurately it was of them.
It was one of the cheesy selfies she had made him take, his eyebrows were scrunched in an exaggerated frown but even from this distance and the black and white of the image, Lucy could see the softness in his eyes. She was smiling wide, her loose hair hanging in curls down by her shoulders as she pressed her cheek close to his to fit them both into frame.
It was one of her favourite photos of them.
It wasn’t the most perfect image, it was even a little blurry as Lucy remembered giggling as she took it and her hand shook when she laughed. But it was them. And they were happy.
Tim returned with the glass and handed it over, his fingers lingering slightly as they made contact with hers. Lucy made no effort to break the contact, keeping her eyes locked on the place where their hands were touching.
It was Tim who took a seat on the couch and severed the connection, Lucy followed suit, taking a seat next to him.
She felt her heart beating heavily inside her chest and wondered if he could hear it from his close proximity. He had always said that he found her heartbeat soothing when he had laid his head on her chest.
‘Small doses,’ she said after the silence had lingered for a fraction too long. ‘I can do small doses.’
Tim looked at her, an apprehensive smile tugging on his lips.
‘I’m not saying it’ll fix everything,’ she continued. ‘But small doses, small steps might get us back to where we were.’
‘That’s all I want,’ Tim said softly. ‘I won’t rush you Lucy, I know the part I played in this but I want to make it right.’
‘I know you do,’ she said a little louder than a whisper. She wanted to take his hand in hers, to feel the calming sensation of his forefinger tracing patterns across her skin but she held back. Small doses was what he had suggested and what she had agreed to. She couldn’t risk her heart anymore by jumping back into it with too much haste.
‘I’m proud of you, I didn’t say it earlier,’ she added, smiling gently at Tim who looked a little taken aback by her words so she continued. ‘For going to therapy. For wanting to make that change. I know that wouldn’t be easy for you.’
‘It wasn’t,’ Tim admitted, the vulnerability that he saved just for her creeping in through the cracks in his armour. ‘But you were right, about everything. I’m going to continue with it, well after I find a new therapist.’
‘Maybe keep the talk of our bedroom antics to a minimum this time,’ Lucy said lightly.
‘I’ll do my best,’ Tim said with a smirk.
A silence settled over them again but this time it was lighter. The words they had spoken today, the truths they had shared had helped to alleviate some of the burden that had been sitting on both their shoulders.
‘Do you want to stay for dinner?’ Tim asked to break the silence.
‘Not today, small doses, remember,’ Lucy said with a slightly sad smile, pushing off of the couch so she was standing. ‘Ask me next week,’ she added, an image forming in her mind of the previous time she had told him to ask her again.
‘Okay,’ Tim nodded. ‘Next week.’
‘Goodnight Tim,’ she said, stopping her movement towards the door to turn back and look at him.
‘Goodnight Lucy,’ he said, the corners of his mouth turning up hopefully.
As she closed the door behind her, she was suddenly thankful that both her mind and her heart had won today. Her mind had kept her in control in that elevator and stopped her from taking a giant step she wasn’t ready to take yet and her heart had brought her here, to take a small step that she both could and wanted to manage.
She had meant what she had said to Tim, small doses might get them back to where they were and Lucy realised as she glanced back over her shoulder to the house that belonged to the man she loved, she wanted that more than anything.
