The Ghosts' Banquet

In which Hangyon joins in on a cultural experience one could only find in Hanamaruobake's Kingdom.

"Maruri~!!!"

Maruri couldn't help but flinch when Hangyon suddenly and loudly enters her office. It was a good thing that she kept a tight grip on her cup of coffee, or else it would've spilled all over her students' test papers on her desk. She did burn her tongue though...

"What are you doing here?" she asks her fellow Knight of Fragaria as she wipes away the coffee that clung to the corner of her lips.

"To visit, of course! I had to make sure you were taking your breaks, sensei~!" Hangyon grins as he takes a step closer to the teacher, all while Lily waves hello at Maruri.

"So about that party in the woods-"

"Still no."

"Boo, how mean~," Hangyon sighs, and even Lily visibly deflates at Maruri's rejection.

"At least tell me the real reason why you're here, Hangyon. You seem quite giddy today, after all," Maruri hums, pointing out her friend's demeanor as she tidies up the stack of papers in her desk.

"Ahaha! I wanted to join in on the party, of course!"

"Party?..."

Hangyon merely chuckles when he sees his friend's curious expression. He turns his head to look out the window, gazing out into the streets where the lanterns lit with blue flames line up the streets. Maruri follows his gaze and looks into the window beside her. A soft smile then forms on her face when she sees her people chattering and laughing together as they make their way towards the town square.

"Tis not a party but a banquet."

"Oh well, it's the same thing to me~."

Maruri couldn't help but chuckle at her friend's grin. Perhaps it was the same thing indeed, but Maruri knows well that the kingdom's nightly banquets isn't exactly like the grand parties that Hangyon holds and attends. At the very least, she's glad that he sees the appeal and value in her people's culture.

"Come on, hurry that up already!" Hangyon whines as he plops down on the chair in front of Maruri's desk, pouting right across from her.

"Give me a moment." Maruri tells him and takes out two packs of stickers and shows it to him. "Which one shall I use?"

Hangyon hums and leans in closer, inspecting the sticker packs. Lily follows him, as she also leans in the look at the stickers that Maruri presented. One is full of shimmering gold stars, and the other is full of matte silver stars.

"Hmm~... The gold one."

"Is it because of the glitter?"

"They're kids, how can they not love glitter?"

"That- that's a good point, actually."

And so begins the three fairies' joined effort of putting the golden stars on the test papers. Or rather, Hangyon and Lily just grabbed an extra pack of the same stickers and helped Maruri place the stickers on the papers. Maruri couldn't turn them away, knowing that the two are quite stubborn...

"Woah! This one got a perfect score!" Hangyon grins as he picks up one of the papers, and this makes Lily clap her little hands and smile too.

"The students have been doing exceptionally well nowadays, so I'm not surprised," Maruri says, smiling as she watches Hangyon place a sticker on the test paper.

"No wonder you're smiling so much, sensei~," Hangyon says with a chuckle, to which the girl responds with a nod.

"Of course. I can't help but be proud of my students."

After some time, the papers are all finally graded and decorated with stickers. There's a proud smile on Maruri's face as she looks down at the pile of papers, one which Lily arranges to be neat and organized.

"Now that that's done!!!" Hangyon laughs as he stands up, and Maruri sighs at his excitement, but she's smiling nonetheless.

"Yes, yes. You are so impatient, it's not like you'll run out of food or anything," she huffs as she too stands up and leaves her desk.

Soon, the two Fragaria Knights make their way to the spacious town square of Hanamaruobake's Kingdom. Hangyon hums as he looks around, taking in the pleasant sight before him.

"This kingdom never fails to surprise me"

"How so?"

"Come on~. This was practically a ghost town earlier during the day! Everyone's so serious, staying inside the school or wherever they worked. And then suddenly everyone's out and about at night celebrating together!" Hangyon exclaims, watching as she stares at the floating lanterns as they approach the town square, also taking note of how he can hear the loud chatter of the towns people as they get closer.

"It's like the town sleeps during the day and only comes out at night! You guys are taking your title as ghosts too literally!"

"They're not ghosts, only Marumaru-sama is," Maruri sighs at Hangyon's exaggeration.

"But you're right. We tend to dedicate ourselves entirely on our work during working hours in the morning. All the more reason to use the night's hours to celebrate our hard work and motivate ourselves for the day upcoming," she says.

"Oh how I pity the slackers in this kingdom," Hangyon snickers, "but I'm sure there aren't any of those types in this place anyway."

He turns his head to look at the gathering before him now that they have reached the town square. Just earlier today, it was devoid of life and empty. An embodiment of the term "ghost town" taken too literally, if you ask him. But now, the people of the kingdom have arranged long tables and chairs in the space and created a warm environment for a celebration. Enormous plates of food are passed around from one family to another, and drinks seem to endlessly pour out of bottomless pitchers and jars. The people are all smiling and laughing, sharing about their progress and the work they've done during the day. The night breeze that blows and carries his long braided hair through the air may be cool, but the banquet just in front of him provides a familial warmth that he still finds so strange.

Then again, that's just the pride of Hanamaruobake's Kingdom.

"Lady Maruri! Join us!!!"

"Ah, Sir Hangyon is here too!"

Maruri smiles as she takes a step forward, waving at her people before turning back to look at Hangyon.

"I hope you have a good amount of news and stories to share with me tonight, it seems like we'll be eating quite a lot after all."

At her words, Hangyon grins and laughs.

"Maruri~, don't tell me you're underestimating your best friend now!"

Once again, Hangyon lets himself bask in the warmth of this peculiar ghost town.

I like the idea of Tim and Danny meeting and just clocking each other as little shits TM.

Just causing chaos to everyone in a way that can't really be traced back to them like 'Who? Me? I was busy doing all of these other things I have no idea how I would do that?'

Danny helps Tim get revenge on the bats for all the shit he's had to put up with and being absolute trolls about the whole thing *chefs kiss*
