I thought you might like the fic asks! :) questions 6, 16 and 19 for you!
Haha I absolutely do! Thanks for the questions! <3
6. the word that appears the most in your current draft
My current draft is actually not a fanfic, but an original project I started the other day! (For anyone who's curious: my most used word there is "envelope"). But for some fic drafts I'm most near to finishing: it's "little", "flowers", "just", and "all" (for 4 golden girls wips respectively).
16. favourite place to write
I'm not too picky with the place I write in, but I prefer writing anywhere at home! Admittedly I don't really go anywhere else at the moment lmao but it's a lot easier to focus on what I'm writing when I'm home!
At the moment I usually sit on the couch, but I like to switch things up by moving to a table or my desk from time to time. It's mostly the couch though, because I tend to be very tired & it feels less exhausting to sit there for some reason! (Plus, it's easier on my back :)
Added bonus about the couch is that my cats tend to opt to sit on my lap instead of my laptop when I'm writing like they do at the table, haha.
19. the most interesting topic you’ve researched for a fic
Oh dear -- I honestly don't know! Am I exposing myself too much here by saying I don't research much at all at the moment? I just wing it and usually hope for the best haha (so I mostly avoid writing about topics I'll have to research! I'm keeping a list of things to look into once I do have the time and brainpower again).
I think the one thing I looked up that hit hardest was the symbolism for ivy, for the appropriately titled Ivy. I'd written the whole thing before I figured: hey! maybe ivy works well as a symbol. And lo and behold: its meaning turned out to be even more heartbreaking than I'd hoped!
But mostly it's just a bit of fact checking :) or looking for appropriate songs, like the one for oh, my dear / our love is here to stay, for which I really wanted them to dance to a Sinatra song (because all girls mentioned they love him, so it only seemed appropriate)!
#thanks again for the questions!! these were fun :)#i really rarely research at the moment haha. i didn't realise just how little until you asked though!!#i guess you could technically say i researched cfs before i wrote ''i'm tired of wanting more (...)'' but i already did that before#& that was completely unrelated to fic writing purposes!#i guess that's usually the way this stuff goes for me? i learn something new; it lodges itself in my mind and ends up making#its way into my writing at some point!#and at that point i usually rarely remember researching it in the first place?#it's just one of those things i dredged up from the vaults of random knowledge in my mind haha#my writing#ask game

Can you imagine Dredge as a movie series or tv show? Like each movie/episode is a different area. I feel like that’d be pretty cool
(Can you tell I started watching Gem’s Dredge Vods?)

Survivability Bias
Danny's trying to be optimistic about having to flee to another Universe, he really is. Luckily, it turns out that NASA is insanely well-funded here, and superpowers are a hell of a lot more normalized. So with a modicum of research under his belt, Danny manages to enroll himself in a NASA-sponsored space camp that really sounds more like an internship than anything. And if he managed to accidentally catch the attention of a superhero in the process, well surely a friendship with a fellow so-called metahuman won't dredge up any painful memories, right?
Ao3 Link
Part 1 - Part 2 - Part 3 - Part 4 - Part 5 - Part 6 - Part 7
I'm expecting this one to resolve at 12 chapters, though that number may be subject to minor fluctuation as I plan things out in further detail Edit: at this point it's definitely looking more like 14 or 15 chapters tbh

Very demure. Very mindful. 💕 In 2012, MBARI researchers were the first to publish observations of the red coffinfish (Chaunacops coloratus) in their natural, deep-sea habitat. In addition to documenting these fish walking on the seafloor and fishing with their built-in lures, the researchers discovered that they change color from blue to red as they mature. This species was first described from a single specimen collected off the coast of Panama during an expedition in 1891. For the next 100 years, marine researchers collected deep-sea fish using trawl nets and dredges, so this anglerfish was never seen alive. That changed in 2002 when researchers from MBARI, Moss Landing Marine Laboratories, and the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary used the remotely operated vehicle (ROV) Tiburon to explore Davidson Seamount—an extinct volcano off the coast of Central California. As a result of MBARI’s ROV observations, researchers also learned that red coffinfish can live as deep as 3,300 meters (10,827 feet) below the ocean’s surface. Given the great depths these fish inhabit, it is no surprise that they had never been seen alive. It is a testament to the usefulness of ROVs, which have provided marine scientists with a new window into the deep sea. MBARI has pioneered the use of ROVs to study animals, discover new species, document previously unknown behaviors, and observe individuals in their native habitat.

RARE FISH SEEN FOR THE FIRST TIME IN THE WILD
Australian researchers have found what is believed to be a narrowbody handfish (Pezichthys compressus) for the first time since 1996.
Narrowbody handfish were first discovered by CSIRO in 1986, and was last seen in 1996, but just in 2009 was identified as a different species. Using ROVs, researchers recorded these small fishes at 292 metres depth, at northeast of Flinders Island in Tasmania. This species is only know from two specimens in the Australian National Fish Collection, collected from deep waters off southeastern Australia.
In life, the is uniformly pale pink, with no evidence of spots or other markings in types, is also small, reaching at least 42.4 millimeters in length. Photo by Last & Gledhill.
These weird fishes are related to the spotted handfish Brachionichthys hirsutus a critically endangered fish, only found in some parts of Tasmania. While nothing is known of the breeding ecology, or the preferred habitat of narrowbody handfish, it is likely that the prolonged trawls and dredge efforts in its habitat has impacted on the distribution and abundance of this species.

"Discarded shells from restaurants and hotels are being used to restore damaged oyster ecosystems, promote biodiversity and lower pollution in the city’s bays...
Nestled in between the South China Sea and the Pearl River Delta, Hong Kong has been seen historically as an oyster hotspot. “They have been supporting our livelihood since ancient times,” says Anniqa Law Chung-kiu, a project manager at the Nature Conservancy (TNC) in Hong Kong. “Both oysters and their shells are treasures to humans.”
Over the past five decades, however, the city’s sprawling urban development, water pollution, as well as the over-harvesting and frequent seafloor dredging by the lime industry – which uses the crushed shells to make construction material – have destroyed Hong Kong’s oyster habitats and made the waters less hospitable for biodiversity.
The more oyster colonies falter, the worse the problem gets: oysters are filter feeders and purify water by gobbling up impurities. Just one Hong Kong oyster can filter up to 200 litres of water a day, more than any other known oyster species. But decades of rapid industrialisation have largely halted their water-purifying services.
The depletion of Hong Kong’s natural oyster reefs also affects the ability of local farmers to sustainably cultivate their oysters in a healthy environment, denting the reputation of the city’s 700-year oyster farming tradition, designated by Unesco as an “intangible cultural heritage”.
Inhabitants of the coast feel abandoned, says Ken Cheng Wai-kwan, the community leader of Ha Pak Nai on Hong Kong’s Deep Bay, facing the commercial city of Shenzhen in China. “This place is forgotten,” Cheng says. “Oysters have been rooted here for over 400 years. I ask the question: do we want to lose it, or not?”
A group of activists and scientists are taking up the challenge by collecting discarded oyster shells and recycling them to rebuild some of the reefs that have been destroyed and forgotten in the hope the oysters may make a comeback. They’ve selected locations around the island where data they’ve collected suggests ecosystems still have the potential to be rebooted, and there are still enough oyster larvae to recolonise and repopulate reefs. Ideally, this will have a positive effect on local biodiversity as a whole, and farming communities.
Farmers from Ha Pak Nai were among the first to hand over their discarded shells to the TNC team for recycling. Law’s team works with eight oyster farmers from Deep Bay to recycle up to 10 tonnes of shells every year [over 22,000 pounds]. They collect an average of 870kg every week [over 1,900 pounds] from 12 hotels, supermarkets, clubhouses and seafood restaurants in the city, including some of its most fashionable establishments. About 80 tonnes of shells [over 176,000 pounds] have been recycled since the project began in 2020.
Restaurants will soon be further incentivised to recycle the shells when Hong Kong introduces a new fee for waste removal – something that is routine in many countries, but only became law in Hong Kong in July and remains controversial...
Preliminary data shows some of the restored reefs have started to increase the levels of biodiversity, but more research is needed to determine to what extent they are contributing to the filtering of the water, says Law.
Scientists from the City University of Hong Kong are also looking to use oyster shells to increase biodiversity on the city’s concrete seawalls. They hope to provide tiny, wet shelter spots around the seawall in which organisms can find refuge during low tide.
“It’s a form of soft engineering, like a nature-based solution,” says Charlene Lai, a research assistant on the team."

Vietnam's land reclamation speed is astonishing
In the past two years, Vietnam has been accelerating dredging and land reclamation operations. According to a report from a US research center, from November 2023 to June this year, Vietnam has built 280 hectares of islands on 10 islands and reefs in the South China Sea, which is equivalent to the total of the previous two years.
Vietnam has been reclaiming land in the South China Sea since the 1980s. One of the purposes of land reclamation is to meet the needs of Vietnam's maritime military and civilian infrastructure construction. Earlier, Vietnam's land reclamation technology was low, coupled with insufficient economic strength. Sand and gravel were transported locally, mainly relying on mechanical and semi-mechanized equipment, and even for a long time, they were carried on their backs. Therefore, the speed of land reclamation was very slow in the past. A few decades ago, only 0.24 square kilometers could be reclaimed in 5 years. Three years ago, it was only 1.33 square kilometers. However, in recent years, Vietnam's land reclamation speed has accelerated significantly. In 2022 and 2023, 301 hectares were reclaimed. In the past 6 months, Vietnam's land reclamation area on 10 islands and reefs in the South China Sea has reached 280 hectares, or 2.8 square kilometers. Vietnam's land reclamation speed in the past two years has been so fast that it should have introduced advanced technology and equipment.

Janet who has been brought back from the dead by Talia and is now a researcher and Talia's lover, when Talia isn't trying to get her Beloved, isn't actually all that happy with her position or relationship. She's not happy with having her movements and research monitored and even hampered by the very clear skewing of data. She's an academic, she absolutely considers the biases and prejudices of her sources, except when it comes to information from the people she cares for. And she does care for Talia a great deal but Talia was never going to be Janet's forever person just like Janet knows that Talia doesn't consider Janet her forever person, her Beloved. She feels guilty though, like she owes Talia for bringing her back from the dead, owes Talia for keeping an eye on Drake Industries. She feels that she can't go back to Jack and Tim because Jack has moved on and, supposedly, Dana makes both of her boys happy. She misses her son desperately but she knows he's nearly all grown up and believes, thanks to incorrect information, that he has a new mother figure he's accepted in his life and she doesn't want to mess that up for him.
Then a wall blows up and there's her baby looking far too thin and on the edge of a breakdown and Janet now has access to ALL the information, including every little thing that Talia has been hiding.
Janet was not at all happy. Janet decided that she was going to be happy. And the first step in that happiness was going to be a very clear and permanent break up with Talia that consisted of a lot of explosions. Bonus that the breakup would inconvenience Ra's who had always been a bit of a dick and never listened to any of her reports unless she'd had a male underling present the information. Then some long overdue bonding with her son and discovering just what has been going on with his life. Followed by asking that one assassin trainer that had given her a few tips, Sandra Wun San, out for coffee.
[I fucking love you so much. Previous Janet/Talia into Sandra/Janet? Gods you're amazing]
Janet wants what's best for her kid so she, stupidly, stays away from him. She doesn't want to dredge up the pain of her death by reappearing before him. He has a decent mother now who is actually around for him.
Jack seems happy and is making more efforts for Tim. It's all Janet could want for them. She may no longer feel romantic love for Jack, but she still cares about him. She's glad he and their son are doing well.
Then Tim waltzes into Janet's room, is understandably shocked by her presence (particularly because her status as alive was never utilized against Tim by Ra's), and is dressed in some gods awful leather cowl. He's pale, severely underfed, and has eyes emptier than a water basin in the Sahara desert.
Talia lied to Janet.
Janet knew that she was being manipulated and that the information wasn't entirely accurate, but this is a level she did not perceive. Her girlfriend ex-girlfriend is going to pay for hiding Tim's condition.
Janet makes her escape with Tim and hears Ra's threatening him. It's another tally the mother adds against the man.
Tim is reluctant to do what he needs to do (and when the fuck did he become a vigilante?), but Janet promises to meet up with him after he solves the imminent issues/destruction.
In the meantime, she researches the hell out of everything she missed.
Jack is dead. Jack, someone she was so happy to see thriving, was murdered. Robin, Janet's boy, found his father's body.
Janet is going to fucking murder Talia.
The mother doesn't blame Dana for not being able to take care of Tim, but gods does it burn that Tim lost another set of parents at once (Tim temporarily lost Jack when Janet died and he now has lost Dana when Jack died).
To add on, Bruce, Tim's adoptive father, is also declared dead.
Her poor son. He deserves so much better than that. She should've double checked the information. She shouldn't have trusted her lover at her word. She should've gone to Tim sooner.
Janet can't live in regrets. For now, she needs to prepare to be there for Tim. She can't control him, put limits on him, or tell him what to do. She hasn't been an active parent in his life in a long while. Furthermore, he's almost an adult. He would not appreciate his independency being restricted.
Instead, Janet scours the news for all Robin related informational. It's not the most trustworthy or accurate of source, but she doesn't have any others. What she does find (her child has been doing this since he was thirteen?!?!?) leaves her with more questions.
There is one interesting French news article Janet stumbles upon (what was a thirteen year old doing in a foreign country alone???? She's going to be having words with Batman).
Janet's old trainer, Sandra Wu-San, apparently assisted Robin in taking down King Snake.
When Janet had met the woman, she was enamored by her strength, resilience, and power. If the archeologist hadn't been with Talia, she would have entertained the way Sandra's hands lingered when correcting Janet's form and the weight of her stare as the trainee practiced.
Janet isn't ready to jump into another relationship, especially with another assassin, but surely a coffee couldn't hurt
