Scary Movies and Stu
Characters: Stu Macher, Reader (You)
Trigger Warnings: Mild mentions of horror movie violence, slight teasing about fear
Masterlist
Words: 890
Author’s Note:
This fanfiction features a cozy, playful night in with Stu Macher, where the two of you watch scary movies together. It’s lighthearted with some romantic moments and a bit of teasing. Enjoy!
---
It was late on a chilly October evening when you found yourself curled up on Stu Macher’s couch, the glow of the TV casting flickering shadows across the dim living room. Halloween decorations littered the space—fake cobwebs, plastic skeletons, and a few jack-o’-lanterns grinning from the windowsill.
“You ready for some real horror?” Stu asked, his signature mischievous grin spreading across his face. He sat beside you, one arm draped lazily over the back of the couch.
You gave him a wary glance. “Depends. Are we talking fun horror or traumatizing horror?”
Stu let out a dramatic laugh. “Come on, babe! What’s the fun in scary movies if they don’t make you scream?” He popped open a bag of popcorn, tossing a handful into his mouth. “Trust me, this one’s a classic.”
You shot him a playful glare. "Yeah, well, I don’t like jumping out of my skin every five minutes."
Stu leaned closer, bumping his shoulder against yours. “That’s the whole point, babe! It’s not scary if you know what’s coming.”
You rolled your eyes but couldn’t help the smile tugging at your lips. There was something infectious about Stu’s enthusiasm, even if his taste in movies was… questionable at best. He always had that boyish energy—like he was constantly in on some joke only he knew. It made him frustrating, sure, but also kind of irresistible.
Stu picked up the remote and pressed play, the familiar intro music of Halloween filling the room.
“Oh, great,” you muttered. “The one with the creepy guy in the mask.”
Stu gave you a sly grin. “You mean Michael Myers? The OG slasher? Come on, babe, you gotta give it a chance!”
You sighed, nestling deeper into the cushions as the opening scenes began to play. Stu adjusted himself, shifting closer to you until his leg pressed against yours. His arm, still draped over the back of the couch, slipped down to rest across your shoulders.
“You’re not scared already, are you?” he teased, his voice dropping into a playful whisper.
“No,” you said, though the way you clutched the edge of the blanket betrayed your nerves.
Stu noticed, of course. He always did.
“Aw, don’t worry,” he said with a grin. “I’ll protect you.”
You gave him a skeptical look. “From a fictional serial killer?”
“Damn right,” Stu said with mock seriousness. “If Michael Myers comes through that door, I’ll take him down myself.”
You laughed despite yourself, the sound soft and warm in the dim room. Stu smiled, clearly pleased to have gotten that reaction from you.
The movie rolled on, and soon enough, the tension in the scenes started to build. You tried your best to stay calm, but every jump scare had your heart racing a little faster.
“Jeez, babe,” Stu said after one particularly loud scare made you flinch. “You’re wound up tighter than a spring.”
“Shut up,” you muttered, embarrassed. “It’s the music! It’s creepy.”
Stu chuckled, squeezing your shoulder gently. “Want me to cover your eyes?”
“No!” you protested quickly. “I can handle it.”
Stu gave you a knowing look, clearly enjoying your discomfort. But instead of teasing you further, he pulled you closer against him, his arm wrapping around you protectively.
“There,” he said. “Now you’ve got Stu Security. No masked killers getting through me.”
You rolled your eyes again but leaned into him, grateful for the warmth and the comfort of his presence.
The movie continued, and you found yourself relaxing bit by bit. With Stu beside you—his goofy comments breaking the tension—you felt safe, even when the music swelled and the on-screen terror reached its peak.
At one point, he leaned down, his breath warm against your ear. “Babe, if we were in a horror movie, you’d totally be the Final Girl.”
You snorted. “Right. The slow one who trips over everything?”
Stu grinned, unfazed by your sarcasm. “Nah. The badass who outsmarts everyone and makes it out alive. And you know what?”
“What?”
“If anyone tried to mess with you,” he whispered, his tone playful but with just the faintest edge of something more serious, “I’d make sure they regretted it.”
You looked up at him, the flickering TV light catching the mischief in his eyes, and for a moment, the playful banter fell away. There was something genuine in his words, something that made your heart squeeze just a little.
“Thanks, Stu,” you said softly.
He smirked, and before you could say anything else, he leaned in and pressed a quick, unexpected kiss to your temple.
Your heart skipped a beat.
“See?” he said with a grin, his voice light again. “Told you I’d keep you safe.”
You tried to play it cool, but your cheeks were warm, and the way Stu smiled told you he knew exactly what effect he had on you.
The movie ended eventually, but neither of you moved. You stayed curled up against him, his arm still draped around your shoulders, the warmth of his kiss lingering on your skin.
“Wanna watch another one?” Stu asked, his voice low and content.
You smiled, feeling safe and warm despite the spooky night outside.
“Only if you promise not to make fun of me.”
“No promises,” he said with a laugh, but his arm tightened around you just a little more.
And for once, you didn’t mind.

Author’s Note:
Thank you for reading! Stu Macher is such a chaotic and fun character, and I wanted to capture that playful side of him while also showing how he can be protective in his own weird way. I hope you enjoyed this cozy moment with him!

October Horror Movies #5
'Manhunter' (1986) - Dir. Michael Mann
Summary: Former FBI profiler Will Graham is back on the job to catch a dangerous serial killer—will he catch the killer before he strikes again? Will his sanity remain intact when he's done?
Michael Mann is so cool. Even in what is ostensibly a horror/thriller story, Mann has to include his love for synth/electronic music, his slick sense of fashion and decor, his attention to procedure and the chase in catching criminals. He's so fucking cool, dude.
'Manhunter' isn't my first experience with the 'Red Dragon' story by Thomas Harris. I remember seeking out the 2002 movie of the same name (when I was younger I was really into Edward Norton—maybe a teenage celeb crush?) and then the novel. I recall getting about halfway through the novel before putting it down: I think I just didn't have the drive at the time to finish it.
As for the movie, 'Red Dragon,' I was a little obsessed with it, mainly because of Ralph Fiennes performance as serial killer Francis Dolarhyde: it's sad, scary, and often over the top, which makes it the movie's most distinct feature. Looking back now, I think he's the only real highlight of the movie, and even then, I have a few reservations about what they chose to adapt when compared to 'Manhunter'.
I want to talk a little more shit about 'Red Dragon' that I think will segue into 'Manhunter's strength. Again, looking back, 'Red Dragon' feels kind of melodramatic: there's an orchestral score that permeates every pore of the film, the last half-hour has WAY too much going on—I really can't take it seriously.
Some stuff is just funny—the burning body of Freddy Lounds (Philip Seymour Hoffman) rolling in a wheelchair downhill looks like something out of a 'Jackass' outtake, Francis scarfs down the Red Dragon painting like a dog loose in a paper bin; when Graham's kid is taken hostage by Dolarhyde, Graham roasts the shit out his flesh-and-blood to provoke the Tooth Fairy (I get WHY he did it, it's still kind of funny when it shouldn't be).
Pivoting to 'Manhunter' now—the movie cuts out some of the fat from the book and leaves a lean thriller that breezes through its two-hour runtime. I think this is helped by Mann's emphasis on procedure—the focus of the movie is on Graham (William Peterson) building a case piece by piece, collecting and analyzing evidence, enmeshing himself deeper into the psychology of a serial killer before it all comes together in one great, big "Eureka!" moment at the climax.
Peterson's performance is spectacular. Will's empathy has left him burnt out in a way that feels more believable than Norton's take on the character. His self-hatred for identifying with serial killers, his tremendous love for his family and the victims, and his brilliant detective work make him entrancing to watch. He feels like a prototype of the "damaged but gifted" copotype we see so much in the modern era.
Tom Noonan as Francis Dollarhyde is no slouch either. Dollarhyde feels totally alienated, a prisoner of his own psyche. He's so worn down that he comes off as an emotionless husk, only breaking through with the occasional flash of empathy as Francis, or the cold rage of the Red Dragon.
The rest of the cast is played perfectly—Brian Cox's Hannibal Lecktor is smarmy but radiates quiet menace: he feels like someone you'd meet on the street. Dennis Farina as Jack Crawford is the perfect authority figure—I particularly love his thick Chicago accent. Joan Allen as Reba McLane is played with confidence and kindness—which makes her victimization at the hands of the Dragon tragic and terrifying.
And of course, how could you talk about a Michael Mann movie without discussing the production values. Almost every scene is color-coded—Lecter's stark white cell represents his purity, his self-acceptance; Graham is mostly seen in a black suit, a walking void devouring the emotions of those around him; his home is bathed in soothing blue light in the evening, right off of the ocean; anything related to the case is associated with green, for discovery and inquisitveness. Every frame is its own little piece of art, from the color to how it's composed.
The best thing about the movie is the synth driven score, which somehow works. I was sort of worried going into the movie that the score would clash too much, but it didn't for me. You have ambient themes to emphasize dread and discovery, driving anthems to emphasize the emotional and thematic punch of a scene. Notably, the movie uses an eight-minute cut of Iron Butterfly's 'In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida' at its climax, which heightens the terror of Dollarhyde menacing a captive Reba, while also taking his confrontation with Will and the cops to the next level.
'Manhunter' is sort of the odd-man-out of all the Hannibal Lecter adaptations, but I think it's the one I've been charmed the most by. Mann has a reputation as being the poster-boy for the slick '80s style, but I think his work displays a tremendous amount of rigor, from the production details to his empathetic character writing. On this platform I know NBC's 'Hannibal' is inarguably the most popular version of this story—but this movie is well worth a watch for an alternative take on characters you may be familiar with. Even then—it's a Michael f'n Mann movie. It's gonna be cool as shit.

a/n: holy crap. i did not expect 2012 leo to be this hard to write. i honest to god kind of hate this, but if i spent any longer on it, i was probably going to scream/loose my mind. happy halloween!
◢◤◢◤◢◤◢◤◢◤◢◤◢◤◢◤◢◤◢◤◢◤◢◤
Ah, October, the month of spooks and scares. There’s a chill in the air, and festivities have begun.
Night had fallen just a little bit ago, and you were in your apartment, searching through the storage closet for any blankets that may have wound up lost in there.
“A-ha!” You pulled an old quilt off from the top shelf, careful to not knock anything down with it. “I knew it was here somewhere!”
You draped the quilt over your shoulders and dragged it back into your bedroom, where your bed was covered with other such blankets and several pillows stolen from around the place. You set the quilt down with the rest, and debated how you could arrange everything in the most comfortable way possible. Did you even have enough time?
You certainly didn’t have the time for a full blown blanket fort, and no matter what you did, you suspected you would just wind up rearranging everything repeatedly. So, you just sighed and grabbed your laptop, scrolling through your selection of movies as you continually glanced at the window.
Tap, tap, tap.
You smiled, getting up to open the window. Technically, it was already unlatched, but whatever. You were met with a familiar green face, just as you’d expected.
“Leo!” You stepped aside to let him in.
“I’m not late, am I?” Leonardo climbed inside, just like you’d watched him do a million times before.
“Nope. You’re right on time.”
As if on cue, the clock in the living room could be heard chiming 9 o’clock.
Brief explanation: today was a Saturday! Seeing as you and Leo couldn’t go on dates the way a normal couple would, you had begun a sort of tradition. Your family conveniently was out most weekends, so every other Saturday, Leo would come over for movie night. Granted, movie nights were something that happened at the lair regardless, but it was different when it was just you and him.
And, this time, it was October, which could only mean one thing.
“So, are we going horror scary, Tim Burton scary, what are we thinking?” You sat back down on the blanket pile, pulling your list back up.
Leo sat down next to you, resting his head on your shoulder. (That definitely did not make you combust inside).
“Please not a slasher. I’m pretty sure Raph’s made us watch every classic slasher movie already in the last week.”
“Really? Y’know, he does seem like a slasher guy.” You quickly eliminated Halloween and Scream from your list. “Any of the rest of these speak to you?”
You watched as Leo’s eyes skimmed over the remaining entries on the list. “Well, I haven’t seen The Corpse Bride.”
“Corpse Bride it is!”
You set aside your laptop and stood up. “I’m gonna go make some popcorn, then we can start. Make yourself comfortable! Oh, but some of those blankets might be a little dusty. Specifically that one.” You pointed at the quilt.
“I can go ahead and pull up the movie, if you’d like.”
“That’d be great! Netflix should already be logged in.” You pressed a kiss to his cheek, and made your way to the kitchen for the popcorn.
By the time you were back, the movie was paused on the beginning. Leo was drumming his fingers on the bed, but looked up and smiled when you reappeared. You flicked off the lights, and sat back down next to him with the popcorn bowl.
As he unpaused the movie, you snuggled up against him, grabbing a blanket and wrapping it around yourself. The opening music began playing, and you reached into the red, plastic bowl in between the two of you for a handful of popcorn.
You didn’t really talk much when you watched something. Not a movie like this, anyways. If it was something one of you was really into, the case was different. Like when you’d sit down to watch Space Heroes, Leo would tell you all the little lore details weaved into the background.
So instead, as the movie played, you just leaned against him. Occasionally, when you got bored of staying still, you’d start poking at Leo just to annoy him. It was a game, trying to make him retaliate. It also helped you stay awake, considering you had had a pretty exhausting day.
After the Corpse Bride, you decided you had time for one more movie. The two of you decided Coraline would do. As the credits rolled, you shifted to find yourself stiff. “You want any more popcorn, or?”
“Nah, I’m good.”
You set the popcorn bowl aside, and pulled your laptop closer to type in the search bar. “Have you seen Coraline?”
“Just once. I don’t remember it very well. I don’t remember how we got it, but we were only… five, maybe? Six at the oldest.” Leo shrugged. “It ended up freaking Mikey out pretty badly, so Master Splinter got rid of it.”
“Yeah, that’s fair.” You scrolled for a moment before clicking on the movie. “Well, let’s see how you feel about it- hey!” You were cut off as he poked you in the cheek.
“Revenge.” He grinned.
“You bastard. I thought you were better than this.”
“You should know better. It’s about patience.”
The beginning sequence to Coraline played, and you couldn’t help but notice Leo’s apparent discomfort at it. You couldn’t blame him - that first scene was certainly something.
When it passed, however, he seemed more relaxed. Every so often, he’d pipe up to say he remembered some part of it from when he was a kid, like the dog bats and the scene in the store.
You must’ve been more tired than you thought, because somewhere around midway through, you began slipping in and out of sleep. You’d shake yourself awake, but always drift back off.
Around the third time this occurred, you were somewhere around the kidnapping of Coraline’s parents. You shifted, trying to wake yourself up, only to feel a hand on your shoulder.
“Go on back to sleep.”
You shook your head. “No, no, I want to finish it with you.”
“We can finish it another day.”
“But that’s not…” You stifled a yawn. “You should go ahead and finish it.”
“Would it be a good compromise if I woke you up at the end?”
You thought about it for a second. “Alright, fine.” That didn’t stop you from trying to stay awake, of course, but it seemed that you just couldn’t keep your eyes open.
Leo gently shook you awake, and you registered the closing theme playing. “It’s over.”
You blinked a couple times. “What’d ya think?”
“I now much better understand Mikey’s terror as a child.” Leo closed up your laptop. “The animation was cool.”
You smiled, trying to rub the sleep out of your eyes. “Coraline: Baby’s First Horror Movie. I think it’s pretty good.”
“It is. So’s the Corpse Bride.”
“Great!” You pumped a fist. You were always glad to know Leo enjoyed the movies you watched.
From the living area, you could hear the clock chime once more, this time for midnight. “Sorry I was asleep for half of that.”
“It’s fine.” He smiled softly at you. “It’s getting late anyways.”
You grabbed one of the many pillows and held it to your chest. You leaned back against Leo. “Are you staying the night?”
He put his arms around you and laid back. “For a while, anyways. I’ll have to leave early, though.”
“Mm. That’s fine.” You were already half asleep again.
You knew Leo would probably already be gone by the time you woke up in the morning, but that didn’t matter. He was never gone for long.
You felt him kiss the top of your head. Then, you slipped off into dreamland.

⟶ description: in this episode of unsolved, namjoon and the boys risk their lives by spending overnight in an abandoned and supposedly haunted asylum in the hopes of finding some ghouls — but the boys are pretty certain the real reason for the spooky moaning isn’t allowed to go on youtube. ***warning: very scary!!!***
⟶ pinned comment: this is part of the not clickbait series!
“Well, this has been fun. Let’s go home now.”
You were starting to think this was a very stupid idea ━ but stupid would be an understatement. The looming asylum standing before you with nothing but the darkened midnight sky in the foreground acts as a foreboding omen that you’ve seen one too many times in pretty much any horror movie. The creepy abandoned estate offering itself up as a seemingly perfect and totally innocent means of adventure for a group of friends only to end in murder or a demon possession should have been enough to scare you all away. Fortunately, you’re not the only somewhat sane person (and you say that very loosely because you did, after all, agree to come with the boys), because you’re both startled yet thoroughly relieved to hear the worried statement coming from a very tense-looking Jimin.
It really was a stupid idea. Spending overnight (which, really, just translates to a few hours and a clickbait-y title for the video) in a supposedly haunted and derelict asylum from the early 1900s offered all sorts of problems that weren’t just supernatural. Squatters, creepy cult members, and risking getting whatever sorts of diseases are riddling the walls of the ancient dwelling were starting to get to you. But it was Namjoon’s idea to come here for his next video upload especially when considering the fact that for the entire month of October he and his group of YouTuber friends host a fan favourite ghost-hunting series titled Unsolved ━ and, whatever Namjoon usually suggests, the boys usually tag along with, no matter how daring or how stupid it may be.
“We literally just got here,” Hoseok retorts as he hops out of one of the two cars you and your friends had shared on the way here. It was a three hour drive from the city with the estate being much larger than you expected it to be, four main buildings sprawling out amongst empty fields. At least the stories of its creepy atmosphere are all the same. Was it the cool autumn breeze sending chills down your spine or something else entirely? The moment you stepped foot out of the car and gazed upon the asylum, it was almost as if you could feel something watching you. But that was definitely just you imagining things. “Don’t be a pussy, Jimin. What’s the worst a ghost is gonna do to you? Rattle some chains? Ooooh, spooky.”
“Okay, first of all,” Jimin rounds on the older boy almost immediately, “vaginas are the strongest muscles in female anatomy, so I’m not being a pussy. Let’s get it right, okay? I’m being a little bitch, and I embrace it. Second of all, if a ghost does rattle some chains near me, I will definitely be booking it back to the car and leaving all of you stranded here.”
From beside you, Yoongi snorts amusedly. He’s the resident non-believer amongst your group of friends so you always wonder why he even bothers to come to these things. He says it’s to help filming, but you think he’s banking on maybe one day seeing a ghost even despite all that charade of hostility. Even now, he’s already filming for the vlog, getting shots of the building but also mostly just Jimin and Hoseok’s banter in the background. “If a ghost does anything tonight, I’ll be genuinely surprised.”
“Something is going to happen tonight. I can feel it,” Jungkook says confidently. He’d been huddled over the opened side door of one of the cars with Namjoon and Jin, sifting through their high-tech equipment that you’re certain they just bought off of Amazon or something. “This place is one of the most haunted places near us. Have you even heard the stories? Apparently there are two most popular ghost sightings. One is some girl━”
“Is she hot?” Taehyung asks.
“She’s dead,” Jungkook deadpans. “Also, pretty sure she was eleven when she died from tuberculosis. Anyway, she’s more of a benevolent ghost. They say you can hear her laughing sometimes. There’s a lot of activity in one of the kids’ rooms. And the other sighting is less friendly. They just call it a shadow man because it’s hard to see its face, but you can always see an outline of a person walking by in one of their treatment buildings. There’s even been physical attacks, with one person saying they got scratched by an invisible force.”
Jimin visibly winces. “Sounds very much like a demon than a ghost to me.”
“Sick!” Hoseok exclaims. You’re worried to find that the group’s morale (aside from yours and Jimin’s) isn’t any less vivacious than when Jungkook started his story. “This is gonna be awesome.”
But you can’t help but to roll your eyes, your feigned boredom really just a weak attempt at hiding your own fright. “Oh, shut up. That’s such bullshit.”
“Is it?” Jungkook quirks a brow, challenging you.
“Well, whatever happens, we’re gonna catch it.” This confident statement comes from Namjoon. After he hands out the pieces of tech to the rest of his friends, he glances upward at the asylum with a mischievous twinkle in his eyes. “Come on. Let’s find us some ghosties.”
As the group begins to follow Namjoon towards the nearest building, Taehyung can be heard wolfishly quipping aloud, “Time to rock and roll, ghoul boys! And, er, girl.”
“Don’t call us that,” Yoongi grumbles.
It’s comforting to hear the rest of the group erupt into fits of entertained laughter, but any banter is quick to subside as you walk up to the building. You’re relieved when Jimin decides to hang back with you and doesn’t seem to protest when you start to cling to his arm as you’re all ushered through the main entrance of the building and into utter darkness only broken apart by the dim glow of your flashlights. If you weren’t already so frightened, maybe some of it would be comical, like the way the front doors creak open so very slowly in suspense.
Under Jimin’s breath, you can hear him mumbling in chagrin, “We should have gotten holy water.”
As your eyes adjust to the darkness within, you’re able to make out that the inside is just as horrifying as it was on the outside. Dust and debris hang heavy in the air and on the ground, and almost every inch of any surface within the building is covered in graffiti works of art.
“Oh, fuck that,” Jin scoffs. “We only just stepped foot into here and this place is already giving me goosebumps.”
“Aw, sweet, bro! Check this out!” Hoseok says abruptly, startling almost all of you. He’s standing a bit further off down one hall, beckoning the rest of the group to follow. As you approach him, you can make out what sort of graffiti marking on the ground has suddenly grabbed his attention. “Who wants to lay on the pentagram with me?”
“No one,” You retort.
“I will!” Jungkook says at once, much to your dismay.
Yoongi lets out an audible strained sigh. “If any of you fucks get possessed and kill me, I’m never gonna forgive any of you. Just letting you know ahead of time.”
“Yeah, what are you gonna do?” Hoseok asks. “Come back and haunt us?”
“No, I’ll be dead. Ghosts aren’t real,” Yoongi says. “But I will still be very angry.”
“Noted.”
Before Jungkook or Hoseok can haggle Yoongi into filming them laying on the pentagram drawing and potentially offering their souls up to whatever demon lays waiting beneath it for their souls, the group is moving on. You explore the first bottom half of the building together in a tense silence before making your way up the dilapidated stairs to one of the treatment rooms that Jungkook makes certain to point out is where the infamous shadow figure is often seen. Taehyung decides to suggest, “Should we try the spirit box?”
You almost groan aloud. You fucking hate that thing, for obvious reasons.
Whether or not you believe in it, the loud gurgling noise is always unsettling and you’re already on edge. Still, you sit back with Jimin as the rest of the boys nod in agreement and fiddle with the piece of tech until it’s been turned on. You’re immediately met with a cacophony of crackling radio static so deafening that your instinctual reaction is to cover your ears. You refrain miraculously, but you still cower in one corner with Jimin as the boys listen intently to the noise.
“Is anyone here?” Namjoon calls out to no one in particular. “If you are, can you give us a sign? Move a chair or say something or push Yoongi━”
“What the━?” Yoongi gawks. “Why me?”
“‘Cause you said you don’t believe in them.”
Yoongi clamps his mouth shut, and nods in a way that admits Namjoon has a point. At that moment, there’s a pique in the static, a jumble of inaudible words that almost sounds humanlike.
“What was that?” Hoseok asks. “Sounded like… It almost sounded like it said ‘leave.’”
“Leave?” Jimin squeaks. “Think we should take that as a sign, guys.”
“Nah, I definitely heard Steve, not leave,” Yoongi says.
Jungkook frowns. “Who the hell is Steve?”
“Maybe that’s his name,” Yoongi suggests nonchalantly. “Be nice.”
After a handful of minutes of even more strained silence, the boys are only able to discern certain words that you’re positive don’t have anything to do with the asylum or ghosts. At long last, they shut the machine off and the room is once more plunged into a formidable silence so dense that you almost miss the spirit box. But almost as soon as the piece of tech has been silenced, does Jimin cry out in pure anguish. “What the fuck was that?”
The boys instantly round on their startled friend who is now cowering behind you. The colour has all but drained from his face, eyes wide in a frenzied panic.
“What’s wrong?” Namjoon asks.
Jimin looks hysterical as he shoves a pointed finger in the direction of the wall opposite the room in the corridor. “I swear on my life I just saw something move out of the corner of my eye over there. Like a-a person o-or something. Looked like a shadow. I don’t know! I thought it was one of you guys━”
“Stop it, Jimin.” Your voice treads on apprehension as you look over at the alarmed boy. “You’re scaring me.”
“Yeah, ease up, Jimin,” Namjoon says, though he seems more entertained than anything. “I’d prefer if you didn’t throw my girlfriend headfirst towards a demon or ghost or whatever it is you saw.”
“Joon.” His name rolls off your tongue in a scolding moan as you rub wearily at your eyes. His words do little to help console you, and you’re certain it fairs even worse for poor Jimin.
“I’m sorry. I just━” Jimin pulls you tighter in front of him. “I swear I saw something. Holy shit.”
Jungkook’s the first one outside the room, his own camera in his hands as he goes to investigate. As the rest of the boys file outside in the corridor, you drag Jimin along with you, favouring not to be alone in any part of the building. You can hardly see anything, let alone a shadow.
Jungkook turns back around at long last, a devious grin on his face as he finds Jimin’s wandering crazed stare. “Maybe it was the shadow man. Told you he exists.”
“I don’t care what it was. My heart almost fell out of my ass,” Jimin gasps. He clutches at his chest over his heart, for added emphasis. “Let’s get out of here.”
You aren’t quite sure if the boys believe him, but you do notice how quick they are to move on from the room and corridor. A palpable tension hangs heavy in the air that makes you realize perhaps the boys are starting to lose their cool under pressure.
As you reconvene below on the main floor of the building, Namjoon pipes up. “Let’s split up. See if we can find anything on our own.”
“Okay, Scooby Doo,” Jin snorts. “You do know that this is how every horror movie begins, right? There’s power in numbers.”
“Yeah. Which is what we’ll all be saying when this video reaches trending on YouTube with a million views,” Namjoon says, matter-of-fact. “Which we can only do if we get some interesting content. So, let’s split up into pairs of two. We’ll meet back here in an hour.”
“We could just fake it,” Jimin suggests desperately. “Like every big YouTuber does. The magic of editing, guys.” But no one seems to be listening anymore as the group begins to splinter off. Yoongi and Jungkook decide to venture back upstairs in pursuit of the elusive and supposed shadow man, while Hoseok and Taehyung wander outside. Lost and dumbfounded, Jimin gawks around at his retreating friends, calling out in one last effort, “Anyone? …No? Okay, cool.”
He nearly lets out a yelp when Jin clasps a hand on the boy’s shoulder in a reassuring manner. “You’ll be okay, Jimin. C’mon, let’s go.”
Finally alone with Namjoon, he offers up his outstretched hand to you. You take it at once, gripping his palm a little tighter than necessary as he pulls you towards him.
“You doing okay?” he asks.
“Yeah,” You lie, even though you know he can see right through it.
You’re content to find that he at least keeps your hand in his even as he tugs you along with him to explore the rest of the asylum. You decide to leave the building you’re both in and wander to another one where you stumble upon Hoseok and Taehyung on the main floor briefly. Then, making your way upstairs, you find nothing out of the ordinary but empty rooms that you suspect were once upon a time sleeping quarters for the patients. It’s less frightening than the other buildings, though still a little unnerving the longer you stay to explore. You climb the stairs until you’re on the third landing and inspect almost every room to find nothing.
At some point, you let out a wavering sigh. Namjoon is busy waving around an EMF reader in a room. It’s empty aside from a dusty cot and a broken wardrobe, amongst a few other oddities covered in a thick layer of cobwebs and dirt. You could have sworn you’ve heard footsteps in almost every room you’ve entered that wasn’t either yours or Namjoons, and the strange sensation that you’re being followed hasn’t been able to shake from you. “Joon? Can we go back now? I’m starting to get a little spooked.”
Namjoon comes to a halt at once, turning around to face you. He gives your palm a comforting squeeze. “Hey, you’re okay. There’s nothing to be scared of. I don’t mean to sound like Yoongi but I highly doubt we have to worry about any ghosts.”
“Well, what do you think Jimin saw?”
“Who knows?” Namjoon shrugs. “It was probably just his imagination. Your mind plays tricks on you in the dark, doesn’t it? Here, let’s talk about something else to distract you.”
“Like?”
A moment of silence passes between the two of you as Namjoon considers another thought. You don’t even realize the smug smirk unfurling on his face until it’s too late. “Well… I had an idea earlier. Just a passing thought, really, but I bet it’d be fun anyway.”
“What was it?”
“We could probably have a quickie in one of these rooms and the boys would never know any different.”
You nearly choke at this, sputtering for air as you reach out to flick Namjoon’s shoulder. “You’re unbelievable.”
“Am I wrong?”
“No,” You admit sheepishly. He places his hands on your hips then, pulling you delicately towards him in a manner that makes it hard to focus now. “But I don’t know how I feel about ghosts watching us. Also, the couple that has sex in any horror movie usually ends up dying first.”
Namjoon shakes his head at you, albeit a little amused at your worrisome thoughts. “Nothing’s gonna hurt you. At least not while I’m here.”
“Coming from the man who tripped going up the stairs at your dorm the other day,” You point out tauntingly. The distant reminder and the sound of his abrupt laughter is enough to momentarily soothe your hammering heart.
Namjoon gasps, feigning a look of mock hurt. “What’s that supposed to mean!”
“Means I love you very much but I don’t know how well you’d fair against ghosts or demons.”
“Ahh, I see how it is.”
He sounds mildly offended and pokes his fingers at your sides but, in the ensuing scuffle to flee from his grasp, the both of you trip and fumble until you’re pressed up against the nearest wall, the sound of your snickers like music to his ears. He comes colliding against your front, hands digging into your hips. He leans forward to kiss your lips slowly, feeling you smile against him. A delightful chuckle bubbles at your mouth and he parts from you in the next moment wiggling his brows suggestively while a teasing smirk stretches at his face so wide, his dimples start to poke through.
“Wanna?” he asks.
It’s a simple question, weighing heavy with dirty implications ━ and honestly? You’re kind of into it. Or maybe that’s just because he returns to kissing at your lips, only this time at the corners of your mouth, then the underside of your jaw. Tantalizing motions that seem to make your head spin violently. Your head lolls back against the wall behind you as he droops his head to your neck, lips meeting with the soft flesh of your throat to suck a delicate blossoming hickey there.
“Okay,” You rasp, “so maybe we can spare some time for this.”
“Ah, so now you’re interested.” His voice is huskier now, muffled by the way he busies himself by nipping at the same spot on your throat. He hears your breath hitch, feels the way you part your legs just slightly enough to have him sink further against you. He marvels at your decision in the morning to throw on a skirt and a pair of thick wool tights. At the time, you had said it was because the weather wasn’t too brisk outside just yet; now, he was thanking you silently for unknowingly picking just the right outfit for the occasion.
“Namjoon…” Your voice is strained now, a mix between a plea and a whine and he grunts against your neck.
It takes Namjoon a moment to rack his brain, realizing that he finds it hard to even form a proper sentence anymore. “Don’t even need to feel my dick in you. Just wanna get you off, baby. Can I?”
You’re already practically drooling. “Think the boys will notice if we’re gone a little longer?”
“Who cares?” Namjoon quips. “Jimin’ll probably think we got possessed and lost in the demon world or something.”
You giggle, though your voice splinters off into a soft moan as he continues to nip and suck at your neck. His hand falls to your thighs then, fingers brushing upward faintly until he meets the short hem of your skirt before disappearing beneath it. His hand comes to grasp at the delicate curve of your ass, his palm hot and firm against your soft flesh.
He groans into your neck. “Been dying all night to touch you.”
“Then don’t stop.”
If the way his hardening cock now forms against your inner thigh any inclination, you don’t think he has plans on doing so. Instead, you watch as he lifts his free hand to your mouth, fingers tapping at your lips in a wordless motion. “Open up.”
You do as you’re told, lips parting just enough to wrap around his two fingers. He gazes at you with hooded eyes as you suck at his digits, tongue laving against the sturdy form in your mouth until his fingers are coated thick with your saliva. His other hand, still attached to the rump of your ass, moves like water over your skin to your thigh once more, nudging you aside just enough, pinching delicately at the skin there; he pulls his fingers from your mouth then, then lets the same hand venture under your skirt in a similar fashion. He wastes no time in pushing aside the material of your panties, pressing his digits at your core, watchful eyes staying fixated on yours if only to watch your every expression. His dampened fingers slide over your folds, spreading them open, running across them, admiring the way your stickiness already forms between your legs.
“Joon…” You cling to him tighter, both to steady yourself against the sudden ministrations and to shield yourself more from view, though you’re certain there’s a slim chance the boys will come across you and Namjoon like this. You hope.
Namjoon’s fingers slip past your folds then, slow and steady as he feels the tight constricting walls of your cunt. You throb around him, thinking only of his cock, imagining the girth of it fitting snug deep within you. The similar stretch of your walls, the fluid motion of his length burrowing in and out of you, wrecking you into shambles. Now, Namjoon wriggles his fingers upward, scratching at a spot within you that has you writhing against him, the slick wetness of your arousal sufficiently coating his fingers. His thumb finds your clit then, running small circles against the small bundle of nerves.
“So wet,” Namjoon moans, resting his forehead against yours. He notes the way your teeth sink into your lower lip, and pulls his free hand out from under your skirt to tap his fingers against your chin. “Gonna moan for me, baby? Let the boys hear you? Maybe wake the dead?”
“You’re such a brat,” You simper through a shuddering breath, and if you weren’t so consumed by him then maybe you would have laughed at the joke he manages to squeeze in at the last moment. But he’s not wrong. What’s the point in keeping silent in an abandoned building that you’re positive only you and your friends are currently occupying? How much longer do you expect to keep quiet, when the way he’s making you feel begins to slowly burn at your insides?
He curls his fingers deep in you, and your jaw unhinges in a silent gap. You wonder how long you can last, face burning with every passing second as he fingers you closer and closer to your high. Your hips jut outward to meet his hand with every motion, grinding against his knuckles in a desperate need to get off. You’re shameless about it too, fingers gripping his shirt tightly, brows scrunched together in hardened dedication.
“Such a pretty little mess,” Namjoon hums. “Want you to cum on my hand, baby girl.”
“Fuck, Namjoon━” You whimper now, head lulling back as he twists his fingers further in you.
But, as soon as you do so, the echoing sound of footsteps has your eyes darting to the darkened corridor. You make out the sound of oblivious chatter, and the familiar voices of Taehyung and Hoseok echoing from somewhere down below. They must be two floors down, though you can hear them screaming at nothing in particular, except for a string of profanities that meet your ears.
“Jesus, fuck!” That definitely sounds like Taehyung, voice shrill with worry.
“Chill!” There’s Hoseok, but you think he was also screaming moments ago with Taehyung. “It’s just a spider.”
“I don’t care! Get it off of me!”
“Bunch of dumbasses,” Namjoon shakes his head rigidly, a fleeting grin forming on his face that is quick to fade as he curls his fingers upwards further into you. And, while your attention is somewhat fixated on the boys, you find yourself treading a fine line of not giving a fuck as Namjoon’s fingers stay buried deep within your cunt. Still, Namjoon can sense the slight urgency in your demeanor when your hands wind around his neck to tug at his hair, as if to gesture to the strangers that he already knows are nearby.
“It’s okay,” he murmurs reassuringly, voice low enough for only you to hear. “You’re doing so good, love.”
He slows his fingers almost to a halt as you burrow your face in the crook of his neck. Your walls continue to clench around his fingers, and he adds a third finger to stretch you out just enough in a teasing leisure manner. He does it on purpose too, this much you know for certain, as he pinches playfully at your waist. It’s lewd, the idea of him fingering you out in public like this but the emboldened adrenaline coursing through your veins doesn’t want him to stop. By now, your high overwhelms everything else, causing you to writhe against Namjoon as he cradles you to him. You cum moments later, your orgasm overcoming you before you can sense it, trembling beneath his hands as he continues to finger you through it. Warm, wet arousal leaks from your core, coats his fingers all over as a punctuating whimper of his name tumbles from your lips.
“That’s it, baby,” he says gently. “Let everyone hear how dirty you are. Let it all out.”
Your thighs shake, squeezing shut around his hand, and all he can do is rub soothing circles into your hips with his free hand. He waits for your breath to steady, as the coil in your belly loosens, instead taking the time to admire you to your fullest, drunken hooded eyes glazed over in that perfect expression he loves.
“Want your cock in me now, Joon,” You whine breathlessly. The whining persistence in your voice excites Namjoon, only amplified tenfold by the way you begin nipping and sucking at his neck.
“Now?” he asks.
“Now.”
Almost instantly, there’s a noticeable shift in his expression, a shit-eating smirk tugging at his mouth. You smother the rest of it before it can become too smug, folding your lips over his. Still, he hums through your eager kissing, “Yeah? Gonna let me fuck you like this, love? Take you raw against this wall, right here, right now?”
“Yes, please,” You mewl. Growing restless, you beg silently, “Namjoon.”
“Better make it quick then, hm?”
You can only nod, still in a daze from the orgasm that still courses through your veins. Namjoon’s quick to oblige, pulling his hands from your heat and wiping your slick wetness off on his thigh. Clumsy hands between the both of you fumble to undo the button of his jeans, hastily undoing them just enough to free his straining cock from within. He wedges himself between your legs, hiking your skirt farther up your thighs, and he hurries to free his length from its confinements, wild locks spilling out onto his forehead and into your own line of sight. You push his hair up and away from his face, though your fingers grip suddenly at the roots of his locks when he grips your thigh and hoists it up to his hip, and then pushes himself into you at once, the tip of his warm cock easily coaxed by your already wet walls. He moans into your neck but muffles it halfheartedly by kissing along your throat.
“Easy there, boy,” You snicker, though your own words are a weak drunken slur, drowning out into a muffled whimper as he thrusts himself into you all the way. His hips meet yours roughly, grinding against you as your walls stretch around his throbbing cock.
“I’m needy,” he whines. “Just wanna feel you around me.”
He wastes no time in moving again, pulling his hips back only to thrust into you, adopting a steady fluid pace in such a way that has your head lolling back against the wall, and your mouth popping open in a silent moan as you shift beneath him. The wall of the building behind you is rough and jagged but you don’t feel it, not with the way he continues to thrust into you. His fingers dig into the flesh of your thigh, stretching you apart in such a way that has him pummeling his length into your core just right.
“Fuck,” he grunts into your neck. Impatient hands move to yank your shirt up to your chest, pulling your bra down just enough for your breasts to pop out. He moves to leave a wet trail of kisses to your breasts, catching one of your nipples between his teeth and sucking harshly at it. The new sensation has your own walls clenching around him, and he almost comes undone then. Against your chest, you can hear him murmur breathlessly, “You feel so fucking good, baby.”
“Mmm,” You tug harshly at the roots of his hair. An unabashedly loud moan nearly tumbles from your lips before you can bite it back. Elsewhere, you can hear the sound of faint footsteps once more in the far distance, Taehyung and Hoseok much closer this time (quite possibly on the same floor as you, but the opposite end), but you don’t seem to care much anymore about the potentiality of being caught. “Fuck, Namjoon━”
“You like being fucked like this?” he rasps. “Out in public, for anyone to see?”
You feebly muster a nod, lips parting in a silent moan safe for the sound of your hot panting in his ear. Hurried yet deep shuddering strokes, he fucks into you again and again until your head is spinning. Every thrust sends a jolt up your spine and, still riddled by your first high, your body is quick to turn into shambles beneath him. Your hands flail outward to grasp onto every inch of his body, hands slithering beneath the material of his shirt, fingernails to dig crescent shapes into his torso, then snaking downward to grasp at his bum, pulling him in closer each time he rolls his hips into yours.
“Joon…” Your voice is an exhausted moan when it meets his ear. He almost doesn’t hear it, instead too caught up in the way your panting breaths mingle with the crude wetness of his cock delving past your folds each time. Somewhere, once more, in the distance even closer this time is the sound of footsteps once more. The thought of someone walking in one you like this━Namjoon wedged between your thighs, drilling his leaking cock into your wet cunt and tearing you to utter shambles━does something chaotically good to you. “Not gonna last.”
“Me neither,” he gasps. “Don’t care. Just wanna cum. Just wanna feel you cum around me.”
His thrusts begin to tread into sloppy territory, fervently itching to get both of you off. You reach your second high first, tumbling towards it with open arms. You can’t contain yourself, the tempting moan dancing upon the tip of your tongue, burning in your throat as your orgasm twists at your belly. “Fuck, baby, I’m gonna━”
But your voice splinters off into a delicious sounding whimper. Wary of being caught by your wandering friends when you’re both so close to being undone (because, really, the idea of someone else hearing you whimper because of how good his cock is exhilarates him), Namjoon’s hand clamps over your lips and you welcome it graciously, favouring the idea of his fingers poking into your mouth so that you have something to distract your moaning. It still comes, broken and inaudible, smothered by Namjoon’s hand, as your tongue lavs around his digits.
Now, you’re truly a sight to behold, making Namjoon’s length twitch amongst your walls. Exhausted, fucked out eyes gawk at him, too weak to carry on, instead jutting your hips forward to meet his with each thrust.
“Shit,” he whines. “Fuckin’ hell, Y/N━”
He comes moments later, frantic slaps of his own hips having him spilling his seed sloppily into your already wet cunt. The abrupt sensation as your own walls clenching so impossibly tight around him, he feels as if he can’t move, though it’s not as if he immediately plans to. Instead, after a few more rocky thrusts into you to ride out both of your highs, he collapses against your chest and you smooth your fingers delicately through his hair.
It’s a miracle when you both manage to finally pry themselves off of one another. As Namjoon hurries to tuck himself back into his jeans, you fidget with your bra and shirt, and then the hem of your skirt, tugging it as low as it can go. His cum is still warm and sticky between your legs, slowly beginning to run down your inner thighs.
You catch him looking at some point and ask curiously, “What?”
“Nothing,” he says innocently. “Just wondering how you still manage to look so beautiful even after having my cum fucked in you.”
You roll your eyes as you reach out to ruffle his messy hair in an attempt to tame the damage you’ve caused. He smiles wide at the effort anyway.
“Decent?” he asks.
“Good enough,” You say. “Now, let’s find the boys before anyone notices we were gone for too long.”
And this, he doesn’t disagree with.
Later, when you and Namjoon have regrouped with the rest of the boys back by the cars parked outside the asylum, everyone looks a little more on edge than when you left them. Except for maybe you and Namjoon. You wonder if the boys notice, judging by the way you and Namjoon keep giggling amongst yourselves.
“So,” Jungkook says, “did you guys find anything?”
“Nothing,” Jin admits. “Just freaked out Jimin a little bit more.”
The boy in question can be seen scowling to himself, arms folded over his chest. “All I gotta say is screw this place.”
Hoseok looks indifferent as he reviews a recording on the camera in his hands. When he speaks, his voice is a casual drawl. “Dunno. Thought we heard some suspiciously loud moaning from one part of that building that I’m almost positive Namjoon and Y/N were exploring.”
At this, Taehyung bursts out into wolfish laughter, only prompted further by your sudden horrified expression that you try to play off nonchalantly and fail miserably at doing. So they had heard you two after all? “Ha! They sure were exploring something.”
While the rest of the boys look either intrigued or rightfully confused, Namjoon shakes his head defiantly. “Nah, I don’t know what you’re talking about.”
“Yeah, sure.”
Resisting the urge to hide behind your hands, you bite your tongue and try to sift through your brain for something else to discuss. Over the childish giggling sounding from Taehyung and Hoseok, you ask, “Well, did you guys find anything? Thought we heard you exploring the third floor.”
“Third floor?” Hoseok echoes, dumbfounded. “We didn’t get that far.”
“But I could have sworn I heard you guys.”
Hoseok’s brows knit together. He exchanges a look with Taehyung, then returns his stare to you. “You probably heard Tae screaming like a lunatic because a spider was on him. We were only in there long enough to try the spirit box out again, but that was on the second floor. Then the spider thing happened. Then, we left.”
Now, this is alarming. You gap at the boys as your mind tries to piece together the puzzles of this dilemma. Had you heard the boys, or perhaps something else entirely? Or maybe it was just your imagination. Namjoon did say your mind plays tricks on you ━ but the sound of footsteps had been so vivid.
Even Namjoon looks stupefied, gawking at Hoseok. “Wait, you’re not joking, are you?”
“No,” Taehyung shakes his head. “We were filming the whole time. We can show you. Are you guys joking?”
“No,” You promise. “We were━ Erm━ We got distracted. We weren’t really paying much attention but━”
You’re fortunate when Yoongi decides to speak up, interrupting your embarrassed stammering. “So then what did you guys hear…?
A beat of silence passes amongst your group of friends. One-by-one, you each turn to look up at the haunting asylum still standing behind you, the night blurring its shape into one incomprehensible monstrosity. Okay, so maybe the ghost stories about this place are true. A shiver runs down your spine.
Then━
“So does that mean the ghost is a Peeping Tom or━?” Jungkook asks. You wonder if you should be concerned by his serious tone.
The boys howl with laughter at the thought, though you’re still admittedly a little shaken up by the idea of a ghost watching you and Namjoon bone. Maybe you asked for it, what with deciding to have a quickie in a haunted asylum.
“I don’t know, but can we please get out of here?” You press thinly. “Jimin was right. Screw this place.”
If the boys are as deeply unsettled by yours and Namjoon’s sudden revelation, you don’t know. You all manage to pack up your belongings and clamber in the cars in record timing, speeding away from the asylum unscathed. And if you really did just witness a ghost encounter, then you suppose it isn’t all that bad.
At the very least, Namjoon’s video does make it to the trending page.

A Statement Through Horror: BDG and YouTube
In his video announcing his departure from Polygon Bryan David Gilbert [BDG] stated, “I want to make things that one day people will make a show like unraveled about.” [Paraphrasing here]. Since that announcement he has made some of the most interesting and engaging comedy videos on the platform. On Bryan’s channel, there is a section called “bdg’s scaries” that contains three videos. The first how to make jorts was released April 27, 2019 and will not be part of this analysis, as we are focused on the other two videos. These two videos are Earn $20K EVERY MONTH by being your own boss which was released on October 25, 2020 (two months before his final Unraveled video and departure from Polygon) and Teaching Jake about the Camcorder, Jan '97 which was posted March 3, 2021. If you have not seen these videos yet you should stop reading immediately and go watch them both (honestly everything on his channel is amazing, especially the surprisingly compelling and personal Dances Moving! series) before continuing to read this as I will be spoiling both of them. The position of YouTube celebrity has been the source of a good bit of commentary as short form online media has become more and more central in our culture. Bryan has created two videos that I feel do an excellent job of exploring the relationship between youtuber and audience. I should also point out that this is merely my interpretation of these videos and is in no way BDG’s intended message. I’ll start by going over the first video. Earn $20K EVERY MONTH by being your own boss opens with BDG outside an apartment building, standing in front of a black car. BDG points up at one of the windows and says, “Three years ago I was living in that apartment right there. Third floor, leaky windows, cockroaches, the worst.” I do not know if the real life BDG actually lived in that building, but the 3 years timeframe does line up neatly with his beginning to work at Polygon. BDG continues to bad mouth his old apartment and mentions how he has turned it all around stating, “But just last week I paid off my very first Subaru Impreza. And I own my own house in Nebraska.” This radical change in life-style he credits to, “. . . [working] from home, [making] my own hours, and [being] my own boss. And you can do it too.” I think that it is interesting that BDG’s career up to that point mirrors that of his character, going from newly graduated content creator making small videos in his apartment to one of the most popular creators on Polygon. And all that being accomplished through work that many (rightly or wrongly) would not see as fitting into the mold of the traditional 9 to 5. The idea of making millions working from home, at your own pace, and with no boss is intrinsically tied to the mystique of the YouTube celebrity. Moving into BDG’s office he explains that he makes $20k a month working on spreadsheets. A massive spreadsheet appears behind him that is dated, 01.12.88 (nothing of note happened on January 12, 1988 and the only thing that happened on December 1, 1988 is a large cyclone that struck Bangladesh, January 12, 1888 is the day of the Schoolhouse Blizzard which struck the midwestern US and killed 235 people (remember this for later)) and is filled, seemingly randomly, with garbled nonsense symbols. Many of the cells are the same as other cells and there are empty cells scattered haphazardly throughout the spreadsheet. BDG explains that he got this strategy from Dorian Smiles. In exchange for working on these spreadsheets BDG receives $10k - $20k a month (an amount that lines up pretty damn well with the amount he should be getting through his Patreon page currently, I don’t know if this was true when the video was made though) from Dorian. Wanting to know where the money is coming from BDG asks his bank and they explain that he is wiring the money to himself from another account he has. He grows confused as to the nature of this work and the disproportionately large amount of money it brings in, explicitly mentioning his confusion as to how the money is coming from someone with, “. . . my name and my voice.” and sets about to find and confront Dorian Smiles. BDG sets off for Center Nebraska, which is close to where Dorian lives (a small town in the northeast corner of Nebraska). He states that Dorian’s address hasn’t existed since 1888 (that’s a familiar year isn’t it?) when it was supposedly condemned during an enormous blizzard and is, “. . . just woods now.” The video then transitions to BDG walking through dark woods while his narration talking up the Dorian Smiles program continues becoming increasingly broken. He comes across a figure sitting in the woods that is convulsing strangely, when he calls out to it the figure turns and is him (heretofore named Dorian). Dorian slowly puts his hands over his nose and mouth while staring at BDG at which point the narration cuts out. BDG copies Dorian and when Dorian removes his hands in a flourish, BDG does the same to reveal that he no longer has a mouth. The video quickly cuts back to BDG in his office talking about the program, he asks the viewer, “Why don’t you join me?” and then sits back and smiles while that line repeats without him moving his mouth. The most pressing mystery is who Dorian Smiles is. I think the most likely answer (and one I know I am not the progenitor of) is that Dorian is a reference to The Picture of Dorian Grey by Oscar Wilde, the story of a young man that has a portrait that ages and takes on the ravages of the debauched life its subject lives while Dorian himself does not. BDG would therefore be the unwitting recipient of that blessing, reaping massive rewards while his double, Dorian, lives in poverty and solitude. I like this explanation for Dorian, but I find it to be far more mechanical than thematic. On a metatextual level you could read that Dorian represents the character of BDG. The person that is in all of BDG’s videos, and the one with whom so much of the audience forms a parasocial relationship. In this lens the parallels with BDG’s own life make more sense. By this point in BDG’s career it is not difficult to imagine him feeling stifled creatively at work (I feel comfortable saying this given how soon after this video came out that he departed Polygon). His character had grown too large, potentially becoming alien to him, no longer reflecting the art he wanted to make and so he made a video about a distorted version of himself stealing his voice. In this way the video becomes a statement on his artistic integrity and his desire to test new boundaries and go in different directions. In hindsight, with the knowledge of his departure and then success after leaving Polygon, the video becomes almost heartwarming (if it weren’t terrifying) in the same way that a before and after picture of someone improving themselves can be. We will return to the Dorian Smiles system, but now we must move to the second video, Teaching Jake about the Camcorder, Jan '97. I’ll save you the blow by blow breakdown and aim for a quick summary instead. This video is a simple stationary shot of an old CRT tv. A VHS tape is inserted and a video of a man teaching his, evidently young, son how to use a camcorder plays. It is relatively wholesome and corny in that way that all home movies are and when it ends the tape rewinds and the segment plays again, this time with a few deviations. Over replays the father becomes aware of what is happening and begins trying to reason with Jake through the camcorder begging him to stop watching the tape and move on. The father is menaced by a large shadowy figure that does not speak or move when confronted. Eventually the father resorts to simply taking the camera and recording his own screams of pain. On the final rewind the father simply says, “Attaboy.” before calmly walking out the room and into the dark hallway, a doorway opens at the other end, filled with orange light, and the father walks through and down stairs. The final shot of the video is of the television, showing the hallway, as orange light begins to flicker in the background of the left side of the TV. The sound of the father descending the stairs transitions from the TV to diegetic and a shadow appears briefly in the light. On one level the video is clearly a statement about loss and about trauma. Jake is losing himself by watching these videos on repeat, trying in vain to relive a happier time. In that desperate desire to regain what was lost he is distorting it, making it into something it isn’t, hurting it. At the beginning the father says, “Never ever press the rewind button, otherwise you might record over a precious memory. We always keep the recording going forward . . .“ I think there is an additional, and more personal for BDG, reading however. The father is the modern character of BDG, and we, the audience, are Jake. He is pleading with us to leave the past behind and move on. This was only his 3rd video that he posted after leaving Polygon. It is a plea from him to leave the old character behind and stop trying to make one into the other. To stop obsessively comparing the new videos to the old. To let the future be the future and let the past be the past. He is telling us that his new work will not be like the old, that he has progressed past that and that now his viewers need to as well. The detachment and confusion of Earn $20K EVERY MONTH by being your own boss has transformed into a desire to move forward. But he needed to ensure that his audience was ready to come with him, and so he made a video about loss and the dangers of sinking too far into it. I know that there are some of you that feel I am reading too much of what I assume to be BDG’s thoughts and emotions into these interpretations, and I am the first to admit that I might be. In no way am I trying to say these are the only interpretations of these videos or even that they are correct. I think there is so much more of an artist that they put into their work than they realise. I do not know the mind of BDG, only he does, but these videos made me feel that I had a glimpse into the feelings of a man whose work I admire. These videos are either longer or a drastically different tone to the material he has put on his own channel and as such they stood out to me. They felt different, and they seemed to ask for a different level of scrutiny. On some level maybe BDGs videos can not be divorced from the story of BDG as a content creator, the same as any modern internet semi-celebrity, or indeed any artist. I guess there was also a part of me that wanted to answer the call to action I heard when BDG left Polygon, to unravel his work. I hope in some small way I’ve been able to do that.

Cursed & Haunted Film Sets
October 02, 2021
While October is the time where horror movies are the most watched, Hollywood has not been a stranger to haunted film sets. While these actors believed that they were only pretending to be scared and that scary stuff was only happening in the movies, it turned out that a few horrific events happened on set in real life.
Here is a list of cursed and haunted film sets, some of which you may have never heard of before. These bone chilling tales will make you 10x scared than when you are watching these movies.
The first cursed film set was on ‘The Crow’, starring Brandon Lee who played a musician who rises from the dead after being murdered the night before his wedding. The 1994 film is all about how Brandon Lee seeks revenge on those who murdered him, however the real horror happened on set.
On March 31, 1994 while filming a scene where Lee is supposed to be shot, he really was shot and had fallen backwards. The directors had told him to fall forwards once being shot, and believed that he had been kidding around. It wasn’t until Lee did not stand up they knew something was wrong. Lee was rushed to the hospital, and after a 6 hour surgery was pronounced dead at the age of 28.
That’s not all that happened while filming this movie. On the first day of filming, a crew member was driving a cherry picker to set up lights and fell into a ditch. The member had gotten electrocuted and it is a miracle he did not die. Witnesses said all of his organs had been burned.
Another unfortunate event that happened during filming was one of the stunt double scenes. While preparing for a scene, a stuntman had fallen through the rooftop set and broken multiple ribs. A member of the art department ended up with a screwdriver gone right through their hand. Others claim a sculptor who was working on set went “berserk” and ended up driving his car through the set. Some sources believe it was just an accident and that he had simply lost control of the vehicle.
Either way, it’s safe to say that ‘The Crow’ had a lot of horrific things happen during filming, and before Brandon Lee’s death he supposedly referenced to crew members that he believed his family was cursed and that he felt like he was going to die soon.
Rosemary’s Baby is a popular horror film that came out in 1968 and was based on a novel. The plot is about a couple who moves into a new apartment and after the wife becomes pregnant she begins to experience strange things and believes something evil is lurking around.
Many people involved in the film had horrible things happen to them. The movie’s composer died after falling at a party, as well as one of the producers of the film had life-threatening kidney stones and kept having hallucinations that Rosemary was coming after him with a knife. The director of Rosemary’s Baby was none other than Roman Polanski, whose wife Sharon Tate was murdered by the Manson family the following year. Could bad luck have been following those associated with this film?
The Innkeepers came out in 2011, and was about a pair of hotel employees that began to wonder if the hotel they worked at was haunted. Many crew members believed this film set was haunted and had reported seeing lights turn on and off by themselves, doors open and close by themselves, and perhaps the creepiest of all, many of them would receive phone calls but when they picked up no one was on the other end.
I don’t think it is a shock to many to see the Amityville Horror on this list. Perhaps one of the most famous horror stories in Hollywood history, the 1979 film is based off of a real life story of a man named Ronald DeFeo Jr, known as “Butch” who murdered his entire family while they slept. The Lutz family moved in shortly after the murders and after 28 days of living in the house claimed it was as haunted as could be.
James Brolin, who played George Lutz in the film claimed that when he considered accepting the role in the movie, a piece of clothing from his closet fell down all by itself. The creepiest story of all however, surrounds Ryan Reynolds, who played George Lutz in the 2005 version, who claimed to have woken up every night 3am for no reason while filming.
Poltergeist is another famous horror movie that is unsurprising to be on this list. Released in 1982, it appears that anyone who stars in this film and its sequel is bound to run into tragedy. The movie plot is about a family who again, believes they are being haunted by an evil spirit. Dominique Dunne, one of the stars of the film was murdered by her boyfriend a few months before the movie was released. Another star in the film, Heather O’Rourke died a few years later from septic shock at the age of 12. Two other actors from the sequel film passed away due to complications from disease or surgery. Was the film cursed, causing misfortune to those who acted in it?
Many do not believed in curses or haunted film sets, but it does seem eerie that some of the most well known horror films in Hollywood history have so much tragedy surrounding them. Do you believe in haunted sets and curses?

[OM!] Haunted Attraction (Mammon/MC)
Prompt: Haunted House + Mammon
//I say I’d be stuck between teasing him relentlessly or trying to comfort him, but in all honestly, I’d be as scared as he is LMAO hope you enjoy some cute n scared Mammon
--
Sticky cobwebs lined the shelves and ornate cabinets; red poured through the cracks of bricks that made up the walls of the dilapidated building. If you listened carefully, the wind blowing through the curtains at the window sounded like moans of the dead. The halls before you were dark, but if you squinted, you could see pairs of eyes stare back at you unblinkingly-- and you can’t help but be impressed by how much effort was put into this Haunted House attraction.
A hand pops out from the wall-- a typical jumpscare, yet one you would have jumped at if not for the fact you were more frightened by Mammon’s scream in your ears. He shoves his face into your shoulder, squeezing his eyes tight, and pushes you past the hand, which you narrowly dodge. You raise a hand in apology at the person in the wall for kicking over a prop bucket and let yourself be pushed forward by your boyfriend.
When the two of you enter a new room, you slow to a stop and you watch as Mammon peeks out from your arm. “Are they going to do that every time we pass through a doorway?” Mammon stammers, clinging onto your arm like it was the only thing that could protect him.
You think it is more endearing than it should be that he cowers in the face of fictional demons considering how he’s a demon himself, but you refrain from teasing him about that at this moment.
Instead, you tug Mammon closer until your faces almost touch, grinning when his face warms and he stammers for a completely different reason entirely. “I thought you said ‘you weren’t afraid of no ghost!’” You tease, “Weren’t you the one saying that I can hide behind the Great Mammon if I got frightened?”
Mammon bristles, fumbling to find an excuse that could possibly save him despite the numerous times he’s hidden behind you in fear. And you wonder, for a demon who you’ve known to jump at every single scary thing in a horror movie, why would he ever think a haunted house created by literal demons would be any better?
The Haunted Mansion of the Devildom, was what the attraction the two of you entered. A weekend-only, couples event for October, and you think Mammon probably saw the flyer for a “couples event” and jumped at the idea before thinking how he would deal with the actual scares inside the haunted house attraction.
You would normally watch him stumble over his words before pressing a kiss on his lips to end his misery, but the haunted mansion has other ideas. (You should have realized you were holding up the line, because if you did, you would have realized that someone would eventually have come and told the two of you to hurry along.)
“Hey, it’s not like I expected the Haunted House to- to be this good,” Mammon retorts, making a point to put distance between you and him, though his hand is still holding yours. “Besides, I’m not scared! Those screams earlier? They were for fun! Right-- it’s not like you can have fun without a few yells here and there--”
“Hey, sorry to interrupt, but can the two of you keep moving--”
Mammon shrieks again, surprisingly even more high-pitched than last time, and jumps into your arms. You stumble with the extra weight, but you’re quick to wrap your arms around Mammon and under his legs to support him as he hugs your shoulders in fear. You turn around, a little shaken but nonetheless apologetic when the vampire you recognize from two rooms back put his hand behind his neck sheepishly.
“Sorry, yeah, we’ll keep moving,” you tell the attraction worker.
You wait until the vampire (costumed or real?) returns to his post before you turn your head toward Mammon. His arms are still around your neck, helping you support him as you carry him bridal-style. And you can’t help but to think how light he was, considering how effortless you seem to carry him-- or was it the fact you were getting strength from the idea that you were the one protecting Mammon instead of the other way around?
You adjust your grip on him momentarily by shifting your arms at his side, much to his embarrassment. “Don’t worry, babe,” you say, kissing his cheek soundly with a grin as his face slowly becomes the same shade of red as the lights from the previous room. “I’ll get you out of here safe and sound.”
You see him pout from the corners of your eyes, but his grip tightens on you. You feel your heart warm from the trust you’ve been given, despite how little it actually means ‘protecting’ Mammon from non-existent monsters. Still, you revel in the warmth of his arms on yours and laugh when he buries his face into the crook of your neck when a zombie comes out of his coffin.
By the end of the attraction, you can’t feel your arms-- or your legs, for that matter-- but Mammon looks at you sheepishly and offers to carry you back home, and you think that everything was worth it after all.

Julie’s incredibly aesthetic incredibly autumny list of movies that she maybe recommends (part 2)
Oh sweet joy! It turns out that there are many more great, fantastic, cosy movies (and tv-series!) just absolutely perfect for autumn. By popular demand, I return with even MORE autumny recommendations, and this time, there might even be spell-checking. (Looking at you, “Silence of the Lamps”) (I won’t edit that, because that’s just funny.)
Thank you for reading the previous one, and I hope you’ll enjoy this one too! We have some GREAT ones coming up. I hope! Maybe! But what I believe will really perfect this second list, is the fact, that autumn is close to being at its peak right now, with it being October! Woohoo!
Pumpkins, Jack’o’lanterns, spooky movies, Halloween, tricks and treats, fog, rain, candles lit in the dark, delicious tea, and scarves, because the chill is back in the air! Amazing! The aesthetics are to die for!
I’m on a small break from university, and have actually been having some allowed free time, to do autumny stuff. By this I mean I can do autumny stuff with my family and friends, and not feel guilty, because this time I’m not procrastinating. Well, I’m a little behind on some books, but it’s not that bad. You’re allowed free time on breaks! They’re supposed to be mostly free time, anyone knows that. I refuse to be a good student on breaks!
This free time means that I have actually had time to watch some of these movies and tv-shows myself, and so I can feel a little better about recommending most of them, since I’ve actually seen them. Hehe. Still. I do have other, boring stuff to do, like reading for uni, emptying the dishwasher, cooking, vacuuming, etc., so there will be some of these I’m including, I have not watched, and those will be, again, backed by the power of optimism. Yay! Anyway! You’ve read enough not-halloween recommendationing, and is getting bored - Let’s get to it! (Also, these are still in random order, and I will put warnings at the end, again <3)
Coraline
I remember watching Coraline when it came out in theaters, years ago. I also remember that we had a little closet-thing in the wall, small and closed-up, but still very similar to the one she goes into, in the movie. Needless to say, this was not a favorite for little Julie, who was absolutely scared shit-less by this movie. I remember button-eyes, decaying puppets, and a very scary mom. Now, I have not watched the full movie since, but from bits and pieces through the years, I can wholeheartedly recommend this one. It’s stop-motion, the details are incredible, and wow, this movie is great. If you, like me, are no longer 9 years old, watch it! It’s wonderful, and surprisingly, very feel-good in the family aspect. A great movie!
Official synopsis:
An adventurous 11-year-old girl finds another world that is a strangely idealized version of her frustrating home, but it has sinister secrets.
//Warning: do not watch this, if you are around nine years old. It will absolutely traumatize you about small closets in old houses. If you are not nine years old, I think you’re good! Just the right amount of spookyness, I believe!
Sense and Sensibility
I watched this with a good friend in february, I think. So I’m not sure why I think this has to go on an autumny list, but I stand by it! Maybe it’s the beige and brown, beautiful clothing, the many shots of nature, and the relationships between these characters, that fits very well with the cold and chilling air, we find ourselves in, here in lovely October. I don’t know. Food for thought. But this is a great movie, and I really think you should try watching it under a blanket, with tea and a good friend. We didn’t know the story before we saw it, and it had us guessing! And there is a part my other friend Sif told me, always makes her dad cry, and I think that should be taken as a compliment to this movie! It’s great! Love, sisters, crisis and period drama (and great clothes), this movie has it all! (also - Emma Thompson!)
Official synopsis:
Rich Mr. Dashwood dies, leaving his second wife and her three daughters poor by the rules of inheritance. The two eldest daughters are the title opposites.
//Warning: It might make you cry. But I promise, it will be a good experience, in the end. It’s not scary, though.
Over the Garden Wall (animated series)
Well, this one, I’ve been dreading to add to my list. Now, you must not misunderstand, it’s not because I don’t like it. It’s because this series is so great, so weird, so beautifully drawn and made, that I’m afraid I could write a whole blog post dedicated only to Otgw, and still not feel that I have done it justice. It's just so good. It’s like the someone just decided one day, to make a series, that absolutely, perfectly encompasses autumn and halloween, and then did just that. The storyline is good, the art is good, the soundtrack is good. God, the soundtrack. I’ve also made sure to listen to this show’s soundtrack, since we left summer behind, and it’s just so good. There’s a reason tumblr went wild, when this show was first released. But since this is an AUTUMNY list, let me focus on those aspects. Big dark woods, scary noises in the dark, red and golden leaves, fantastical beings - this show has it all, and trust me, it WILL get you in the mood for autumn. I almost started puking leaves and pumpkins when I watched this with my friends, that’s how pumped it got me. This show has a special place in my heart, and if you promise not to tell all the other movies and shows on the list, I’ll admit something: this might be a favorite of mine. Maybe THE autumny favorite.
Official synopsis:
Two brothers find themselves lost in a mysterious land and try to find their way home.
Warning: May be a little spooky, but I have it on good authority from a friend that is a true scaredy-cat, with nerves of whipped cream, that’s it’s fine. She could handle it, watches it every year, and she’s fine. Good levels of scary.
Corpse Bride
Believe it or not, that same scaredy-cat of a friend, I just mentioned, actually instructed a musical, based on this story. Is she a horror-fan or not? I have no idea, but her show was so well-done, that it actually made me like this movie a bit better. I have seen it before, but she convinced me, by telling me the original story behind this movie, that it’s pretty great. And by association, this movie became pretty great, too. It’s been some years since I saw this, but it’s a pretty good halloween movie, I think. Dead people tormenting the living. Classic autumn stuff, I would say. And it’s pretty well-made, I think, stop-motion again! I like the aesthetic of a corpse bride, though you have to admit the actual thing is pretty sad. The premise is haunting and scary, but it’s more morose, melancholic and depressing, I think. Poor Emily. But a good movie! Sorry, maybe that wasn’t a very enticing description, but I promise, it will do you more good than bad, to watch it. And then go google the original story, the movie is based on!
Official synopsis:
When a shy groom practices his wedding vows in the inadvertent presence of a deceased young woman, she rises from the grave assuming he has married her.
//Oops, nearly forgot a warning! Warning: some people are dead, and therefore rotting a bit. If you’re squeamish, don’t watch. If you love sad love stories, definitely watch!
Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone
Yeah, I’m not sure why this has to go on my Autumny List either, sorry. It just has to. I know it takes place over an entire year, but in my head, it jut fits very well with the whole magic, supernatural, foggy halloween times we find ourselves in. I mean, look at the cover! Maybe it’s the iconic scene, right before the troll is discovered in the girls’ bathroom (sorry, spoiler), with the floating jack’o’lanterns, and tables almost crashing undet the weight of candy and cakes, that convinced my brain, that this is a halloween movie. I don’t know. Just trust me on this, and watch the first Harry Potter movie. It’s pretty good.
Official synopsis:
An orphaned boy enrolls in a school of wizardry, where he learns the truth about himself, his family and the terrible evil that haunts the magical world.
//Warning: Nah, you’re good ;-)
Little Women (Important: 2019 edition)
Alright girls, we’re hopping genres again! This is another period-drama (sort of), about sisters, and wow, I cried to this. I bawled, I sobbed, I choked on snot, and was a little inconsolable, when I watched it with friends, at the cinema. One of the best experiences this year, and one of the greatest movies I have watched in a long time. I love everything about this movie: the family-bonds, the clothing, the many nature-shots, the developments of characters, (almost) all the characters, and just, wow. No good way to end that sentence, because I want to just keep describing all the good parts of this movie, because it's everything. It’s amazing, and yes, i’m exaggerating, but I can’t help it. I forgot to eat my popcorn or drink my water, when we watched this, that’s how mesmerized I was by this movie. I love Jo, I think I can empathize a lot with her, and if I could talk to her, if she was real, I would thank her for telling her story. This movie is great, you should watch it, because it makes you feel so warm inside.
Official synopsis:
Jo March reflects back and forth on her life, telling the beloved story of the March sisters - four young women, each determined to live life on her own terms.
//Warning: Might make you break down crying. But in a good way. Very cathartic, actually.
Alien
I watched this for the first time last year, when I decided I was going to watch the classic older horror movies, and not freak the fuck out. I mostly succeed. And this movie was a joy to watch. That’s maybe weird to say about an alien horror movie, but wow I just love Sigourney Weaver, and the aesthetics of this movie. The story is thrilling, and I really did not like most of the characters, I thought they were hysteric and annoying, but I still rooted for them. It’s a different kind of horror movie, that’s for sure! But when I watched it, I totally understood why it has become such a classic.
Official synopsis:
After a space merchant vessel receives an unknown transmission as a distress call, one of the crew is attacked by a mysterious life form and they soon realize that its life cycle has merely begun.
//Warning: Uh, yeah, Sif, this is not one for you. It’s gross and scary. Malin, I think you’ll like this one! Go ahead! Maybe we should see it together?
Edward Scissorhands
Haven’t seen this one! I want to, though. I think I’ve seen one scene, where this man accidentally pokes a water-bed, and younger me felt that was a very tragic thing, on more levels. Johnny Depp yet again, so it has to be good, right? I know this poor guy, Edward, has it rough, and was given some really not that practical hands. Man, he looks sad, huh? So maybe more sad than scary, yet again. Dont know! But I really do want to watch it. Winona Ryder is in this, too, so really, it’s a no-brainer!
Official synopsis:
An artificial man, who was incompletely constructed and has scissors for hands, leads a solitary life. Then one day, a suburban lady meets him and introduces him to her world.
//Warning: I don’t know? Maybe not that spooky? I think it’s more sad, to be honest.
Pride + Prejudice + Zombies
I mean, why the hell not - right? I love Jane Austen. I love Pride and Prejudice. And I really like halloween, so OF COURSE, I’m including this one. I’ve seen it, too. My friend Malin and I watched it a couple of years ago, and yeah, it’s good. It’s not high cinema, no, but I don’t need that. It was a fun, weird twist, and sometimes, that’s all you need. There is a very interesting scene with a corset, that was NOT in the book, and I think it really added something to this story. And Lily James. Whew. Great movie. Great for autumn. I will be watching this one again.
Official synopsis:
Five sisters in 19th century England must cope with the pressures to marry while protecting themselves from a growing population of zombies.
//Warning: I can’t really remember, but I think there’s some pretty gross scenes with zombies. Rotting flesh is NOT pretty. But just close your eyes for that, and you’ll be good!
The Haunting of Hill House
I first watched this series when i came out some time ago. I never finished it, I don’t think my heart was in it, but by no fault of the show. Now, that the same creator has made another show, which my mom and I are hooked by, and almost through, I think I’ll be returning to this one - it deserves another chance! A great old house, ghosts, family secrets and INCREDIBLE aesthetics, mean there must be something here! Also, I think it’s based on a novel by Shirley Jackson, and it’s supposed to a classic horror novel, and Stephen King tweeted that he liked it, so yeah, it’s promising! The series I’m watching with my mom is spooky, but tumblr says the Haunting of Hill House is supposed to be much more spooky, terrifying, even, and I really want to find out if that’s true!
Official synopsis:
Flashing between past and present, a fractured family confronts haunting memories of their old home and the terrifying events that drove them from it.
//Warning: Very Scary! Faint of heart - Beware! Just enjoy this beautiful gif of Nell dancing by herself, and move on <3
Psycho
Another old classic! Woo! Have not watched, but really, I feel like that’s almost a crime by now. I HAVE to watch it. Soon, I’m planning to. Sadly, It’s old, and I grew up with the internet, so I’ve been spoiled oh so dreadfully, and knows all the bloody details and plottwists of this oldie but goldie. But I still want to watch it! It must be a classic for a reason - right? Also, I’ve never seen the full version of the famous shower scene, and that’s just embarrassing. Shame on me.
Official synopsis:
A Phoenix secretary embezzles $40,000 from her employer's client, goes on the run, and checks into a remote motel run by a young man under the domination of his mother.
//Warning: It’s a horror classic! It’s gotta be scary. Then again, it DID come out in 1960. Be careful about this one! Sorry, I have no idea, have never watched it.
Hannibal (the TV series)
It’s gross, it’s scary, it’s aesthetic, there is a danish elegant man eating people in snowy Baltimore, and you really shouldn’t pay him to be your psychiatrist. Hannibal! I first watched this as a young, edgy teenager, and all the blood and gore didn't get to me at all - I just enjoyed the cat-and-mouse game between Will Graham, our main character, very mentally unstable, and a dog-lover, and Dr. Hannibal Lecter, a renowned psychiatrist, elegant, high-society - and also, he talks like a mixture of the bible and an old greek sonet. What I'm trying to get at is that this show is weird. Good weird. But also, now no longer an edgy teenager myself, it’s really gross. A man’s leg is cut off and served to himself. That’s gross. I didn’t like that, and I definitely covered my eyes. Other than that, it’s a very vivid show, with great focus on presentation and symbolism. I would love for someone to analyse each episode, because there's so much attention to detail. It’s honestly impressive. And after having watched many, many shows about crime and murders, I must say, this show has THE most buckwild, creative, never seen before ways of killing people. How the hell do you come up with a murderer using people’s different skin colors to make a mural? I don’t know. It’s disgusting, but man is it different. I’m halfway through season two, and there is a lot to unpack! Also, have to mention, very homoerotic - that’s a plus. Don’t think I could’ve stomached all the blood, otherwise. I hate blood, and wow is there blood in this show.
Official synopsis:
Explores the early relationship between renowned psychiatrist, Hannibal Lecter, and his patient, a young FBI criminal profiler, who is haunted by his ability to empathize with serial killers.
//Warning: Yeah. You read how many times I wrote ‘gross’. Just trust me on this one, it’s gross. It’s good, but maybe don’t watch it. You don’t need to introduce your brain to this.
The Haunting of Bly Manor
Ooh boy. Ooooh boy. This series is very good. VERY good. I’m watching it with my mom right now, I think we’re at episode 7, and wow are we hooked. It’s spooky, it’s haunting, it’s thrilling, it’s mysterious, and wow is it scary. We both agreed to go together, the first night we watched this, and our dog had to be taken out on his night-walk. She didn’t want to go alone, and i didn’t want to stay back at the house, alone. So we went together, and I was so freaked out that I nearly peed my pants, when some kids screamed in our neighborhood. It’s so very much what I want a ghost-story to be, but it’s also a lot more, and much greater for it. I love all the characters, they’re all so well-rounded, and most of them are good. The big manor is spooky, and the woods surrounding it are foggy and dark, and yes, this is really a great series for autumn and halloween. It’s the second series made by Mike Flanagan. There are some similarities between the two shows, and surprisingly, some of the same actors! I think that’s very interesting, and it also made me very confused, as I watched the first episodes of the Haunting of Bly Manor, and could not, for the life of me, figure out where the hell I had seen these people before. It made it even more eerie in a way, and I appreciate that. I love this show, and I think I’ll be very sad when we’re through with it. I guess the natural thing to do, will be to follow up with Flanagan’s previous horror series, The Haunting of Hill House! Also, there’s lesbians in this one. Very nice. I appreciate that. Also, surprisingly - I love the children! They’re so cool and brave, and it would be very nice if especially Flora could go with me, the next time I’m going to a haunted house. Such a badass.
Official synopsis:
After an au pair’s tragic death, Henry hires a young American nanny to care for his orphaned niece and nephew who reside at Bly Manor with the chef Owen, groundskeeper Jamie and housekeeper, Mrs. Grose.
Warning: It’s spooky. It’s the perfect halloween series, so of course it’s very spooky! This gif I chose is spooky, and I promise the show itself is worse. But if you can handle dead people creepily staring in the background, and maybe has someone to watch it with, I think you’ll be fine!
Alright! We made it! Another spooky, aesthetic, autumny list, for us to enjoy this crispy season! Woohoo! Also, I’m sorry if there’s any spelling mistakes or whatelse, I hope you enjoyed reading anyway! Thank you! Now go drink some tea and relax, you’ve earned it. I recently tried chili-tea, and damn, that’s another recommendation from me! It was amazing!
Hope you have a great Halloween, it’s close now. Watch out for the cold weather, remember to bundle up, and don’t let the impending darkness get you down. Light some candles! And also, watch some of these spooky tv-series and movies with your family and friends! And have a great fall! <3

How Btvs characters would spend Halloween with their s/o:
A/N: This is based on the assumption that the reader really enjoys Halloween 🖤🦇
Buffy summers:
Buffy really likes Halloween
Surprisingly
Often her one night off
But she loved it from being a kid
Having fond memories of trick or treating and then squabbling over candy with Dawn
Being allowed to stay up late to watch movies
When she told you her fond memories you were determined to create more fond memories for her on Halloween
Will absolutely love the idea of a couples costume
But won’t want you to tease her about it
Once you get the hints she’s dropping you would totally pick the cheesiest outfits to compliment each other
You spend all day making Halloween treats with Dawn and not allowing Buffy in the kitchen
And you share them with her before you go to a Scooby gathering/party
you dress up and Dawn hypes you both up (she loves you together)
the party is fun
you laugh along with your friends and even bob some apples
(Xander’s idea)
You rent a bunch of movies to watch for when you get in
you want to recreate something that feels like home for her
She cuddles up to you and kisses you softly thanking you silently
she really loves you and now she loves Halloween more
Xander Harris:
big Halloween fan
he really enjoys it
Won’t shut up about it as soon as October first hits
It’ll be infectious and he’ll love it if you’re as enthusiastic as him
Will have horror movies all lined up for the whole month
you’ll settle in, dim the lights and cuddle up
On the 31st he will have saved the best line up until last
Will want to spend as much time with you as possible
So movies will be his ideal
You’ll both for sure be dressing up even if you’re not going out in the evening
he’d do a couples costume but may actually prefer surprising each other with your respective costumes
Bonus points if you dress kinda sexy he won’t be able to keep his hands off you
Will have so many films lined up you’ll have to stay up basically all night to finish
He’ll have the classics and some more modern ones too to mix it up
He’ll know a whole bunch of facts about the filming too
You bring the snacks and just enjoy your night together
It’s perfect cos it’s the two of you
Willow Rosenberg:
Will be as enthusiastic as you
Will have planned out a costume way in advance
(one made not bought just in case and will insist to make yours too)
It’ll be all part of the
Lots of time for kissing and snuggles in between making the costumes
Plenty of time together through October
you make your costumes and finally they are perfected
the best part has been spending so much time with her though
Halloween night finally came and you spent the entire day eating candy and adding the finishing touches to the costume
you were both giddy with excitement
At the Halloween party you will be the coolest and most historically accurate
you enjoy yourselves, not caring what anyone else thinks of you or your costumes
you have each other, that’s the best part
you meet up with the Scoobies and have a great time
she’s so comfortable with you she can actually let loose
you leave really late, stumbling home together
Willow loves the way you bring her confidence out
you get home and curl up in bed together
you wished the day would never end, you had so much fun
Rupert Giles:
Enjoys the holiday
Didn’t celebrate so much in England
But has fully embraced Halloween since moving to Sunnydale
He’ll dress up, he used to wear the same costume every year but now switches it up a little
his favourite is the trusty wizard costume
He does prefer to stay at home but would go out if you asked
but you don’t, you’re content to just be with him
he has his nose in a book as you make Halloween treats
you entice him to join you
(promising it means he gets as many as he wants)
He came over and immediately helped with weighing everything
He’s actually a good cook so he could have taken over
but loves sharing the responsibility
you put some Halloween themed music on and dance around the kitchen
he adores seeing you so happy
makes him melt more than the caramel for the candy apples
you laugh together and just generally enjoy the time you share making sweet treats
he loves every moment
you decorate them and share them when they’re done
you ask him to tell you ghost stories
and he does. Although they’re all true and from his Ripper days
it makes it even more interesting (and he loves sharing his past with you)
Spike:
Loves it
everyone knows he (not so) secretly loves Halloween
will have stolen any and all candy left outside people’s homes
will split it with you if you ask nicely
may tease you and ask for his treat first
but will definitely share the candy cos he’s fond of you
may take some convincing to get him to leave the crypt after dark
but if you do, by some miracle, manage it
you will find him warming up to it
wont dress up himself but won’t mind that you do
might even teasingly offer to help get you into your costume
you go to some bar or the Bronze
had the impression that dressing up was some kind of insult
but figures eventually that you all must just think he (as a vampire) is very cool
makes him very full of himself
(more so than usual)
Won’t dress up at all but will mutter under his breath his thoughts and a primitive rating system on everyone else’s costume
this will make you laugh
a lot
he’ll enjoy making you laugh and continue until someone overhears and it gets him in trouble
You’ll end up being kicked out of the bar but neither of you will mind
Halloween is so much better when you were together
Angel:
Angel doesn’t like Halloween so much
But when he sees your love of the holiday he will change his tune
Instantly
he just likes to see you happy
it’s not selfless really, to see you happy gives him so much joy
so he sets off on his October-long mission
Will find every Halloween themed activity you can attend
Sunnydale unsurprisingly has a lot to offer
Haunted houses, pumpkin carving, the works
You name it he’s looked into it
by the time the week of Halloween arrives, you’ve done everything on offer
you tell him one evening that you want to go ghost hunting
he looks at you and frowns
it sounds dangerous
and he would rather you didn’t die (especially not on Halloween)
but you manage to convince him to go ghost hunting
on Halloween
You said it was your Halloween wish. only for you would he do this.
you go to a graveyard and look around with a torch
you were one step away from dressing as a ghost buster
but decided it would probably be disrespectful
You turned and there was a ghost! A real one
you slipped your hand into Angel’s as you communicated with the ghost
Angel planned this. He knew as soon as you saw one you would want to leave and do normal Halloween stuff again
would admit to it eventually, but the most important thing was your face when you met a real (and friendly) ghost
Anya Jenkins:
Anya loves it. She loves making money
She loves dressing up. And she loves you
A winning combination. She also loves learning about everything
Does try her best to get used to being human (and doesn’t get enough credit)
You and Anya will spend the entire day in the Halloween department of the store
Not kidding, you get there early and are there well into the afternoon
You can’t decide what to buy
there’s so much candy so little time
and the decorations! You squabble over what’s worth buying
eventually you manage to convince her you need everything you’ve chosen no matter the cost
she smiles at some of the items and shrugs
she’s new to Halloween, she finds it very cute though
not at all scary
when everything’s decorated and candy is left out, you can relax
(she will have definitely checked on the Magic box while you were in town to make sure it’s going okay)
she can stomach the worst, most gruesome horror movies without so much as batting an eyelid
She’s seen and done worse. will protect you if you struggle to watch
Tara Maclay:
Tara used to get a bit weird around the holiday
You found out later it was because she thought she was a demon
And just decided to sit Halloween out
You had always missed her and offered to stay in but she wanted you to go out and have a good time
Finally this year you knew everything about her past
And so did she
Surprise: she’s no demon
So you make sure she has the best Halloween ever
Cos she’s missed out on so much
you start with pumpkin carving
a staple
you plan out your designs and spend time perfecting them
they look super cute lit up later that night
she smiles a lot
its the first time in a while she’s just done fun things for Halloween
without something in the back of her head telling her she’s wrong
you decorate the dorm you share and play spooky music
You watch Halloween specials and family friendly movies through the entire afternoon
you dress up and hand out a whole bunch of candy
she really likes it, finding herself able to relax
the Scoobies come over and you have a little party
nothing too outrageous just you all hanging out
some of you are in costume, some not
but you have a really great time
and Tara has plenty of plans for celebrating next year
Oz:
Oz doesn’t hate halloween
He isn’t enthusiastic either
Kinda hard to pinpoint his feelings on the occasion
Either way? He’s a sucker for you
he’s usually booked at some gig for Halloween
But this year, he tells the guys he isn’t doing it
knows how much you love the spooky day
so he’s going to spend it solely with you
took him ages to figure out what to do
he will help you decorate
eventually says he needs to go out to the store
when he was out he found a lot of Halloween goodies for you
Decided to use the Halloween themed treats and decided to hide them around the (well decorated) home
its like a little treasure trail. You get clues and you get a treat and another clue until the end
he loves to buy gifts for a s/o and Halloween is no exception
you love Halloween and he loves you so he wanted to make it special
you will come to the end of the trail and gush about how much you love it
he’ll shrug but that smile’s there
he’s pleased
as the night draws in you cuddle up and every time the door goes you insist you both go
so you can see the cool outfits and hand out candy together
Drusilla:
wouldn’t celebrate Halloween unless you wanted to
Might not be aware of how big the holiday is
Would humour you if you wanted to celebrate though
Might find it cute the way you love it
Would want you happy so would make sure there were Halloween decorations everywhere in whichever lair you were in
Decorations would stay up all year round
It kinda blends with the rest of the place
If you’re really into Halloween would hold a ball/party in your honour on the 31st
She would be very proud of it
Would invite every demon she knew but most probably wouldn’t show
demons don’t party. Not on Halloween
Even if it was just both of you attending the party, she would dance with you slowly in the middle of the room
Even with no music
Will pepper your face in such loving kisses
May offer to sire you as she knows you love the date so much
But is happy to wait if you refuse
you are her favourite so Halloween is her favourite of it’s yours
you show her the cuter side of Halloween
Will hum to you softly
maybe a tune like the Addam’s family but will hum it very seriously
Faith:
Faith always thought Halloween was lame
until she met you
she likes to pretend she doesn’t care
and she’s too cool for all that stuff
but melts into a puddle when she sees your enthusiasm for the holiday
Will basically do anything you ask so long as she gets to see you happy
But what you really want is her and you tell her this
you make a plan to go for a ‘spooky walk’ before coming back to get cosy and watch Halloween tv
on your walk, you point out all of the spooky decorations and lights
she thinks its cute but won’t admit it
you end up dusting a few vamps that didn’t get the memo
but you convince her it was perfect, very Halloween-y so she doesn’t get so mad at them for interrupting your evening after that
She will stop and kiss you every few streets
loves stolen kisses, especially like this
you enjoy looking at the cool costumes but eventually walk back home
her favourite part of the night, however was when you turned the motel room you now shared into a cosy fort
blankets everywhere and candles
very romantic and to you it had the right amount of spooky too
You hide under the blankets and start to tell outrageous ghost stories into the night
she held you close and insisted it was now her favourite holiday
Cordelia chase:
Cordy loves Halloween
Especially the excuse to dress up however she wants
Would 100% want to dress you up
Wouldn’t ask, would tell you it’s happening
And you ofc would agree
(Or else)
She’s a sweetheart really and wants a lot of input on what you’re comfortable wearing
Will use her dads credit card to buy anything she thinks you’ll need
You will probably be wearing something worth more than your entire wardrobe for the night
She will dress you up, maybe do your spooky makeup if you’re into that
She would make sure to get you both invites to the coolest party going
I’m talking the coolest
anyone who’s anyone is going
Will walk you in as if you’re both on the red carpet
Will not let anyone compliment one of you without demanding they compliment the other
You will have the best time
Dancing and laughing the entire night
Riley:
Probably wouldn’t enjoy Halloween so much
He sees enough demons on a normal week day
Might want a night off but won’t be too into going out
But If he sees you all excited he’ll start to change his mind
Slowly
He’ll do some activities if you ask and smile as he watches your enthusiasm
When he sees you dressed up he may rethink
Wants you to have a good time so he asks what you wanna do
your choice all day
you wanna go and make dumb decorations? He’ll get the craft glue
you wanna eat your weight in candy? He’s down to share
will take you to a party if you ask
(and maybe even join in with any activities on offer if he’s in a good mood)
will enjoy himself, especially with you on his arm
but you will leave early
He will make an excuse to go home with you
weirdly his job hasn’t called him in tonight
maybe the demons have time off or something?
Weird
you go back to his place and are able to spend a whole uninterrupted night together
you have Halloween themed movies on in the background but mostly you’re spending it together in bed

Simon x Fem. Reader
Warnings: Language.
A/N: A lot of pet names in this...haha SHOCKER. Here’s a little early Halloween addition fic! I’ll have more holiday fics coming soon.

“Why would you make up something like that? You really scared me.”
__
The legs of the chair you were sitting in squeaked as you leaned forward, tuned in to what Negan was saying. It was late October (or at least, you had estimated that it was October) meaning Halloween was soon approaching. Halloween was one of your favorite holidays as a kid. The candy, the trick or treating, the costumes were all part of the spooky experience. As you got older, you cared less about the costumes and more about the scary movies. Almost every Halloween (pre-apocalypse of course) consisted of you curling up on the sofa with a bowl of wrapped chocolate with some sort of scary movie on.
The only downside to this was that you were a bit jumpy. It didn’t take much to get you feeling paranoid and have you checking under your bed for monsters. Which was ironic considering you literally lived in a world where there were horror movie like creatures roaming at every turn.
So you weren’t really sure how you ended up here. Sitting with Negan and Simon outside of The Sanctuary after hours on a particularly cold night, listening to the two of them tell scary stories. Negan was recalling the time he almost became walker food when he was out on a run alone once. His voice was low and deep, his eyes fixed on yours as he spoke;
“Its hand barely had any skin left on it...it was basically all bone at that point,” He described; “For a half rotted roamer, it had a nasty grip on me though.”
Your heart was beating crazy fast in your chest. You couldn’t even imagine how scared you’d be if that had happened to you. The fact that he was able to laugh about it now was astonishing.
“I was able to reach my knife and just as it went to sink its teeth into my calf, I drilled the blade into its head,” He told; “I stabbed it an extra time for good measure. It took me at least a good five minutes to get it completely off of me because I was shaking so bad.”
You were wide eyed now as you processed everything he was saying. Simon sucked in a breath before sighing it out;
“Shit. I don’t even think I’ve ever come that close to being roamer chow,” He admitted. He noticed the chill that went up your spine, prompting him to one up Negan’s story by telling his own; “You think that’s bad? Let me tell you about the time I was chased by my neighbor who was an escaped convict for murder.”
Your head snapped in his direction;
“You’re not serious.” You gaped.
Simon put his hands up in defense;
“It’s true. I swear.” He said with a hint of smirk appearing.
It wasn’t true. As excitedly terrifying as it may sound, Simon had never known any murderers or real criminals in his day. He was just making this up off the top of his head.
“You’re fucking with us. No damn way that happened.” Negan bantered.
Simon chuckled;
“You wanna hear the story or not?” He asked sassily.
You and Negan shot each other glances, before turning your attention back to Simon.
“I was about 18. Just about to go off to college,” He began; “This guy lived about three doors down and had always been a little odd. He very rarely came out of his house, but it was always dark. He had weird vibes all around. All the parents in the neighborhood wouldn’t dare let their kids go play around his house.”
You were nervously chewing on your thumb nail as you listened intently. You didn’t like the fuzzy feeling that was bubbling in your belly.
“It wasn’t a surprise that none of us knew that he had been arrested and thrown in prison. His house was exactly the same when he wasn’t around. I felt bad for the guy. For all I knew, he was just a lonely guy with no one to talk to,” He continued; “So one day I thought it would be nice to hand deliver his morning newspaper to him. I went to the front door, knocked, but didn’t get an answer.”
You didn’t like where this was going. You were quite literally on the edge of your seat as you took it all in. Negan himself even refrained from interrupting, curious to see how this would end.
“I heard some sort of racket in his backyard, so I walked around and through the fence. And what I saw about made me damn near sick,” He explained; “He was in his prison jumpsuit and all. And he was burying a body in his backyard.”
Your heart hit your shoes and bounced back up to your throat. Negan’s jaw dropped and his face went pale. This was the most insane story you had ever heard.
“I was going to just make a run for it and pray to God I could forget about it. But then he saw me standing there like a deer in headlights,” He said rubbing his slightly chilled hands together; “I shit you not, the fucker dropped the shovel and started running at me.”
You were speechless. How had he never told you this story before? More importantly, how did this not traumatize him? Now Negan was just as wide eyed as you, stunned at what he was hearing.
“I swear my feet left the ground before I could even think. I sprinted in the other direction and started screaming bloody murder...no pun intended,” He snorted; “Anyways, to make a long story short, I managed to run out of my neighborhood and found a policeman down the street. Turns out he had escaped his cell that morning and they had been on the hunt for him all day because they were afraid of what he might do. That body was some random guy that he encountered after his escape.”
You couldn’t believe what you were hearing. The hairs on your arms and legs were sticking straight up. You suddenly had the eery feeling that someone was looking at you.
“My mom had to come pick me up from the police station. I was convinced she wasn’t going to let me go off to school after that,” He joked; “But once it was all cleared up, things turned back to normal...but I still would get a sense of fight or flight every time I visited home. But, hey, shit happens.”
Simon finished his story nonchalantly. As if he hadn’t just confessed that he had almost been chopped to bits by a psycho killer. You felt like your heart was going to make a leap of faith out of your chest. You had never heard anything like that in your entire life. Negan shook his head to shake the thought;
“You were had a life or death encounter with a serial killer and all you can say is ‘shit happens’? Simon, I may have pegged you wrong,” Negan stated; “You are one badass motherfucker.”
Simon grinned and shrugged. He had been lying, of course, but if it earned him brownie points with the boss, then he didn’t mind dragging it out. You were shocked silent. What do you even say to that? Negan smiled, shaking his story off effortlessly;
“I don’t know if I can top that, but have I ever told you two about the time I fought off a rabid raccoon?” Negan asked with a raised brow.
Simon caught your ghostly and tired look and stood from his chair;
“No and I’d love to hear it, but I think she’s had enough storytelling for one night.” Simon said guiding you up from your chair.
Negan shrugged with a scoff;
“Suit yourself. It’s one hell of a story though.” He said standing from his own seat.
Simon assured him of another time to tell it and finally walked you back inside from the courtyard. Simon had already completely discarded the story he had just burned into your head. He didn’t even catch the slight shiver in your limbs. You were rattled and even a little terrified. You felt like a little kid who swears they had heard a monster under their bed. Simon slipped his hand into yours as you walked back to your floor;
“So, I’ll see you in the morning, yeah?” He asked softly in your ear, careful not to wake anybody else up.
He wasn’t going to leave you alone tonight, was he? Surely not after all that. You stopped his trek and looked at him with pleading eyes;
“Can I stay with you tonight? Please?” You asked gently; “I don’t want to be alone tonight.” You confessed.
Now, he realized something was up. He instantly agreed, leading you to his room. He watched as you quietly got ready for bed and crawled under the sheets and covers. He followed suit, pulling you to him. You latched onto him like he’d float away if you didn’t. Simon looked down at you with worried eyes;
“What’s the matter, baby?” He asked sweetly.
You buried your face into his soft shirt and shook your head. You didn’t want to admit you were scared, but you also couldn’t get the thought of being chased by a crazed killer out of your head either. He rubbed your back comfortingly and encouraged you;
“Darlin’, you can talk to me. Always.” He cooed.
You mumbled against him. He rested his chin on your head, taking in the scent of your favorite soap. His brain racked up any ideas of what was making you so fidgety. He finally thought back to the story that he had just told about a half hour prior. He suddenly felt guilty. He didn’t think it would’ve scared you this bad...especially since it wasn’t even true.
“Is it the story I told just a little while ago?” He asked.
When you nodded, he whimpered out an airy sympathetic sound. He held you tighter and admitted his lie;
“Oh, sweetheart, that didn’t actually happen. I just made it up.”
You paused and looked up at him. The way your glossy eyes shimmered and lower lip quivered broke his heart;
“Really? You’re not just saying that?” You asked desperately.
“I promise. The whole thing was just a story.”
Your brows furrowed, suddenly a little annoyed;
“Why would you make up something like that? You really scared me.” You said truthfully.
He kissed your forehead and hummed deeply;
“I didn’t think you’d actually believe it. You always see through my bullshit.” He grinned brightly.
You growled faintly;
“Not always. I literally thought you were serious.”
“I’m sorry, [Y/N], I didn’t mean to.” He apologized.
You nuzzled back into his frame, accepting his apology. You were mostly relieved that didn’t actually happen to him though. You would’ve been scarred for life.
“That’s okay. You really could’ve been an actor, might I add.” You joked.
He scoffed, kissing your skin;
“I’ll stick to storytelling in the courtyard.”

Grimm Cleaners: No Questions Asked
I wrote this short story a while ago. I really hope you like it. I took example from my own experience.
The first murder happened on a Monday because of course it fucking would. A new body was found, every day, after that, for two weeks and Todd was sick of it. He didn't know if it was a serial killer, devil worshipers, or fucking Dracula but it was interfering with his social life.
"I don't need this shit! It's my day off." Todd said as he furiously wiped down the blood-splattered table. "Who fucking murders someone in a coffee shop?"
"Quit bitching; you're getting overtime," Sierra said as she mopped the floor. The once white mop-head was already stained pink. And she hadn't even mopped off a quarter of the blood on the floor. "You worked at Walmart for five years. You've seen worse. You've cleaned up worse." Sierra was thin, with big brown eyes and caramel skin. She was fresh out of college and had a look on her face that screamed she was done with the world.
The coffee shop was a trendy place called The Coffee Roosters. Vinyl records and 90s cartoon characters decorated the wall. It had a real mom and pop feel and would've passed for one if not for the unicorn cappuccinos, and every drink being written in French. However, that night, it looked like a scene straight out of a horror movie. Blood and body parts covered everything. There were symbols painted on the walls, Todd was pretty sure, opened a portal to hell.
They had gotten the call just after midnight. The boss wanted all-hands-on-deck. Nevertheless, somehow, all-hands-on-deck meant Todd, Sierra, and the new kid. It was because it was October, Halloween; their busiest time of the year. Everyone worked odd hours. No one else could come in.
"Yeah, and I also got PTSD," Todd retorted. "I can't even watch The Walking Dead without thinking of Black Friday." He rung out his sponge. Todd was grumpy, nearing thirty, a grad student with an arm tattoo of the Deathly Hallows. "All I'm saying is that after seven years of customer service, and 'I wanna speak to the manager,' He mimicked in a high voice "The only murder I should have to clean up in a place where you're forced to smile and say 'how can I help you', is the one that'll happen when I finally snap. Anything else is just rude."
Sierra paused, looked around, and brushed back a dyed strand of neon-blue hair. "Yeah, whoever did this didn't work in Customer Service. Only assholes would fuck with someone else's job. This is still better than working the counter at freaking Sephora. Or Best Buy! You know a two-year-old once pissed on the floor, right in front of me, and the Mom was just standing there looking at tablets. Like what the hell?"
"Ah Dude," Christian whined as he ran into the room. He was a tall, lanky, baby-faced, college sophomore with shaggy blond hair and, unlike the other two, still a hopeful outlook on life. "I think I just found some dude's spleen." And sure enough, in his hands were some poor guy's lumbar vertebra. It was gooey with pieces of flesh and muscle still attached to it.
There were a few moments of silence. Then Todd just shrugged, "Whatever. Still better than working retail." And went back to work. They didn't have time to waste. The coffee shop opened at sunrise. If this wasn't done, they'd be fired.
Sierra murmured her agreement. "At this job, I never have to hear 'Oh it's such a nice day. So sunny and warm. There are rainbows and butterflies and ice cream raining from the sky.' Like I literally haven't been outside in five hours." She dunked the mop in the bucket. "And I don't get to leave this fucking sweatshop of nightmares until it's dark, but thanks for letting me know, Debra."
Todd looked up and saw Christian still standing with a grossed-out expression on his face. Then he remembered that the kid hadn't been training long. Christian hadn't gotten any real experience on the job yet, only taught how to do it. Still, the training wheels had to come off sometime. Todd sighed, "Man, just put it with the rest of the body parts. We gotta get out of here before the police get here."
Christian nodded and turned around to put the spleen in the other black bags on the counter. "This or Mcdonalds," They heard him tell himself. "I can't go back to ramen every night. I won't go back."
Sierra cooed, "Poor guy. Third week of training, and he already found his first body part." She snickered. "I remember mine. I cried for the rest of the night."
Todd grimaced, "He'll get used to it." He wiped the sweat off his forehead. "Wait until he realizes he's making enough money to move out of his dorm. He'll be fine with diving in a lake to get the head of a dismembered camp counselor."
Sierra nodded, "Yeah, once I realized that paying off my student loans depended on getting a hand out of a crocodile's stomach. I got that hand and a new belt." She bent down to pick up a stray eyeball. "Besides, these customers are the best I've worked with."
"I know, right?" Todd threw up his hands. It was the only part of the job that still remained bizarre to him. "You wouldn't think serial killers or monsters would be. But I'll be damned if they ain't the nicest, most polite people I've ever met. You remember that Hannibal Lector type of guy we worked with last week. Well, at the job, I ended up finding some chick's liver. So I put it in one of those black security boxes and sent it to his place. I figured: hey, maybe the cannibal would want it. Because, you know, 'fava bean and a nice chianti' and all that. The very next day, I get a thank you card."
Sierra laughed, "That's nothing! I helped out this Freddy Kruger- rip off, nightmare dude, last year. He was having a hard time tracking down the rest of the people who murdered him. Long story short, I introduce this guy to social media. They were all dead in like a week. I get the best customer review of my life. And I haven't had a bad dream since. How awesome is that?"
A scream came from the kitchen, followed up by Christian yelling, "Brain! There's a fucking brain in the freezer. Holy shit. Oh god, oh god." Then the sound of him throwing up.
Todd and Sierra shared a look that said 'Trainees, what can you do?'
Christian came back into the room, pale-faced, and his shirt covered in puke, "I'm fine," He said. "I just can't get used to this."
"Dude," Sierra said, with a raised eyebrow. "Yesterday, I cleaned up the birth of yet another Rosemary's baby. Demon daddy thanked me for a job well done and tipped me a solid gold brick. Eventually, you get used to everything... well, almost everything." A haunted, faraway look appeared on her face. "Do yourself a favor: never take a job in New Orleans, after New Year's. It's like a vampire free-for-all."
Todd nodded. He would never take another job in New Orleans again. Lesson learned. "Man, once you're done cleaning up back there, I need you to start cleaning the ceiling." He pointed up. There were a bunch of satanic symbols and black scorch marks. "Get everything. Boss will freak if a hell portal opened during business hours. Trust me, it won't be easy budgie jumping into the mouth of hell to pick up some poor chick who just wanted a pumpkin spice latte. The paperwork alone is a bitch."
It took them hours to get the coffee shop back into the pristine condition it was once in. Afterward, they went out the back, locked up, and got into their black truck. It had no nameplates or any identifiable markers.
"Todd?" Sierra asked from the shotgun seat. "Do you ever wonder who we work for? Who our boss is? Or how they found us?"
"No," Todd said as he pulled the truck out of the dark alley. "I just figured they put spotters in high traffic customer service areas. And whichever employee looks most like they've given up on humanity and one more 'there's no price tag on it, it must be free' joke away from burning down the store, they point at him and say that's our guy."
Sierra hooked the aux cord up to her phone, "I think that's the only still scary part. It's like they knew all they had to do was offer us a living wage, and basic human decency, and we'd be theirs. No questions asked."
Music blasted through the car as the coworkers contemplated the truth of her words.
"Makes you wonder who the real monsters are," Christian said.

Put Your Arms Around Me (Midoriya x Reader)
Warnings: the scary story being told does have death
Word Count: 3,001
Prompt/Request: Second day of the October Special: Scary Storytelling.
Summary: When a power outage cancels Class 1A's weekly movie night, they decide to tell scary stories instead. Unfortunately, for Y/N, they don't handle scary things very well. Maybe Midoriya can help!
Author: Mod Alex
“...-ovie night. Movie Night! MOVIE NIGHT!” You chuckled as you heard the chanting of Ashido and Kaminari as they ran past your room. Class 1A dorms had a weekly tradition. You couldn’t remember just how it came to be, but every Friday you all gathered in the common room for a movie night. Snacks were always aplenty and the room was never short of laughter. Your favorite part of it, truthfully though, was getting to cozy up to Midoriya. Somehow, sitting next to him under a blanket, talking in hushed murmurs, and shared smiles had become just as traditional as the movie night itself. You pushed yourself up from your bean bag, setting down the book you’d been reading and replacing its place in your arms with the quilt sitting at the end of your bed. The blanket too would serve its purpose in keeping you and your crush free of the biting cold that the rain had brought in.
Midoriya was already waiting in his usual sitting spot in the common rooms. When he noticed you walking in with your usual blanket, he smiled waving you over. You were quick to comply, draping the patchwork over the both of you. Like clockwork, Midoriya’s arm fell over your shoulder pulling you closer to his side, his face a light pink. “I got some snacks already, I thought you might want to share.”
“Aww, thank you!” You took a chip from the plate he had, munching on it happily. “Did they choose a movie yet?”
“Hmm, I’m not sure. Kacchan and Iida-kun were having a… conversation… about that.” You laughed. They were most definitely fighting, likely with Bakugou choosing some tasteless movie and Iida aggressively explaining why it wouldn’t be appropriate.
“Ah, so we’ll be waiting a while then.” Fortunately, you didn’t particularly mind, seeing as it meant you got to cuddle up to Midoriya for longer. Thunder outside crackled. It had been raining periodically on and off all day but had really picked up once evening rolled in. His arm pulled you slightly closer and you let the feeling ease any anxieties over the weather that you had. “Wow, the rain really doesn’t seem to be letting up at all.”
“Yeah, it’s rare for us to be getting lightning. Hopefully, it'll pass soon.” You continued talking, conversation flowing easily as the rain pounded harder at the window behind you. Normally the storm would have unsettled you, but something about Midoriya set you at ease. Finally, the others agreed upon a movie and all conversation died down. They’d chosen a relatively tame horror movie, you assumed it wasn’t a scarier one because of Iida. Even still, despite being a pro-hero in training, you were easily scared. As the movie progressed, you found yourself slightly shaken, hiding your face behind the quilt as you snuggled closer to Midoriya. “Hey, you doing okay?” Originally you thought he would be as startled as you, but it turned out that he was not so easily shaken.
“Heh, y-yeah. A-okay!” You peeked up at him, heart thrumming in your chest at the kind look he was giving you.
“If you’re scared, we can scroll through my phone together instead.”
"That’s really sweet of you. But I don’t want to be a huge bab--” Just as you were about to finish your sentence the power cut out and a very undignified shriek left your lips. Arms pulled you close, a familiar body heat seeping security into you. You may have clung to him while the others murmured and shuffled around.
“Hey, now. You’re okay. I’ve got you. It’s just the storm, right?” You nodded, face not moving from Midoriya’s chest.
A few minutes later, your classmates had gathered several candles and battery-powered lamps, illuminating the room with a soft glow. You’d since calmed down, and yet neither you nor Midoriya had made any move to leave your current position. “Damn, what do we do now. It’s still way early.” You recognized the voice of Kirishima, despite the dim lighting making it a little hard to actually see him.
“It’s not like we can watch the movie now. Man, I was just getting interested in it too,” Mina whined, leaning against the aforementioned redhead. A brief silence stretched on as everyone contemplated what to do in place of movie night.
“What about scary stories? We were just watching a horror movie, after all.” You silently cursed Tsu in your mind as your classmates’ agreements sounded out.
Everyone took a minute to think of a story before Tokoyami began. His story was more of a poem of sorts, although it was still just as chilling. He claimed he had read it somewhere, but despite knowing it was made up, his storytelling abilities and haunting tone made the poem just as chilling as any scary story. It also didn’t help that Dark Shadow had taken to inputting the sound effects, making the whole experience a little too real. “...he slowly opens the door…” Dark Shadow flew out from behind him, screaming as loud as he could. You, of course, practically jumped out of your skin. You probably would have literally fallen off the couch if Midoriya’s arms hadn’t have been wrapped around you, securing you in place. Thankfully, you weren’t the only person that had been startled by the conclusion of Tokoyami’s story. Several of your classmates had hidden behind pillows, pulled their blankets closer, or huddled next to their friend.
“Thanks.” You peeked at Midoriya who offered you a shaky smile of his own.
“I could say the same. Something about you just makes me feel safe and I want to be able to protect you and make you feel the same way.” He blushed as he realized the weight of his words. You just smiled letting yourself curl up closer to him.
“You already do.” You didn’t look to confirm the fact, but from where you were snuggled into his neck, you could feel the heat from his flushed face.
The night continued on like that, with each student taking their turn at telling a story-- some scarier than others. Yaoyorozu’s story wasn't particularly scary, but you all feigned fear for her sake. After all, she seemed so excited to be joining in. The same could be said for Aoyama and Koda’s stories. On the other hand, you had damn near had to excuse yourself from the room out of fear at Tsu and Shoji’s stories. Even Hagakure had managed to elicit a startled yelp from you when she had snuck up behind you during her story. She had taken advantage of her quirk to wander throughout the room, creeping behind people to jumpscare them at the appropriate parts of the story.
Midoriya’s story wasn’t particularly chilling, though you suspected this was for your sake. Once nearly everyone had gone, yourself included, there was only two left. Mineta, who everyone had hoped wouldn’t tell a story, was in the middle of telling a tale wherein the only scary part about it was how gross it was. Bakugou interrupted much to your appreciation. “You extras wouldn’t know how to tell a scary story if your lives depended on it.” Ah. Maybe you weren’t so grateful after all.
“Bold of you to talk like that, having not even told a story yet.”
“Tch, you half-and-half bastard. You think I don’t know how to tell a scary story.”
Todoroki shrugged. “I’m just saying you don’t have room to talk.”
“Sit down and shut up. I have a story that will make you have nightmares for a week.” You gulped, squeezing Midoriya’s hand. He squeezed it in response and you hoped that his affections would be enough to fight off the fear that you knew was bound to come with Bakugou’s story.
“There’s an old story that took place a couple years ago here in Musutafu, you can find it in old newspaper articles if you look hard enough. A group of students and their chaperone came to tour the city and end the day with a meal before catching the Metro to get back home. The students were all excited, they’d be able to catch a glimpse of U.A. which they obviously wanted to get into. They started the day leaving the Metro with their chaperone, a teacher’s aid from their middle school. Among the group of students were three girls and two boys. Most of them had been friends since childhood, making them all really close. Their names-- Hana, Akari, Rin, Sota, and Mitsuo. Hana was the most carefree of the group, Akari was her best friend, loyal like a lapdog. Sota was more studious, extracurriculars taking up most of his time. Rin and Mitsuo were slackers. Regardless, they were all friends. So on that day, they came to Musutafu, they were excited. On the ride they all chatted, the teacher’s aid not paying them much mind as they pressed themselves to the window to watch the city roll by. The first half of their day went well. They toured part of the city, visited several shops, and stopped for lunch. It was during lunch that everything started to go wrong. Mitsuo, who had been picking off of his friend’s lunches as well as his own, started coughing. Rin was teasing him until she noticed blood on his napkin.
“Mitsuo-- your napkin!”
Rin cried out. They quickly took him to the teacher’s aid who reacted strangely. Initially, he brushed it off as some kind of prank the kids were trying to pull on him. When he saw them crying, though, he told them that they would take him to the hospital. When they got to the hospital, the four remaining friends stayed in the waiting room together.
“What do you think happened?”
“Will he be okay?”
The group questioned each other. Mere minutes later the teacher’s aid showed up, expression flat and grim.
“What happened at lunch?”
They explained once more the events that took place. His expression sharpened.
“I didn’t mean that. What the hell did you kids do?”
They were shocked, did he seriously believe that one of them had intentionally done something to hurt their friend. Rin, the closest to Mitsuo lashed out. The others tried to hold her back.
“I bet you’re the one who caused this, you bastard!”
The teacher’s aid backed off after her remark to go talk to the doctor, still shooting the group dirty looks. The group of friends sat with the thought that Rin had brought up. People didn’t just bleed from the mouth randomly, somebody had to have poisoned him, and judging by the teacher aid’s strange reactions they couldn’t help but feel as though he was the culprit. Rin went to confront him while the others were distracted. Akira was the first to notice, leaving to go find and stop Rin. If the teacher's aid was capable of hurting Mitsuo, then what would happen when Rin found him. She returned later, tears in eyes, breath coming in panicked huffs.
“She’s dead! Fuck, fuck, fuck. Guys I- I, oh my god.”
The others could barely get her to calm down, finding out that Akira had found Rin, her eyes glossed over, and a medical cord wrapped around her neck. She told them that she’d seen the teacher’s aid standing over her body and she had run off, afraid for her life. The three remaining friends knew there was no choice but to run away. They made their way to the Metro, hoping to escape back to their home city before the teacher’s aid could reach them. As they made their way across a busy street they turned to see the teacher’s aid, eyes frantic as he chased after them. Just as they were about to escape the teacher’s aid called out, shout just as frantic as his eyes.
“WATCH OUT!!”
The squeal of tires on the road, then…
SLAM!!!
And just like that time seemed to stop as the now lifeless body of Sota flew several feet into the street. The teacher’s aid didn’t stop though, he kept running trying to catch up with the others. Hearts thundering in their chest the final two ran with tears blurring their vision as they desperately tried to make it to the Metro. Hana begged her friend for them to hide, to stop. That she felt as though she might collapse. Akari tugged her along, promising that it was only a little ways away. That she would keep her safe. That at least they two could make it out. They did. Make it to the Metro, I mean. But the teacher’s aid had too.
“Hana, you need to get over here! Quickly!”
The teacher's aid waved her over, eyes struck with fear.
“What, no way! You killed my friends!”
“Killed? I-- I would never. You need to get away from her Hana, you’ve got it all wrong… I didn’t kill them…”
Bakugou paused allowing everyone to grasp the reality of the scenario in the story and build up tension.
“She did.”
The teacher’s aid pointed a trembling finger at Akira, gasping when he saw she wasn’t there where she’d been standing. While he had been busy trying to save Hana, she had crept behind him. With a shove to the back, he went toppling into the tracks of the Metro just as it came approaching. Hana screamed. She didn’t know what to believe. Akira, her best friend had just killed their chaperone. But maybe he was the killer? She wanted to believe her best friend but then Akira spoke.
“You’re safe now, Hana.”
It wasn’t the words themselves but how she had spoken them. Voice wavering in a way that made it sound like she was barely holding back a grin. Hana was horrified, as realization dawned on her.
“You-- You! How could you?”
“The others won’t be a bother anymore.”
No one knows what happened to them after that. The only reason there's even a record of this was that someone at the Metro recorded it on their cell phone and Mitsuo's medical reports. After that missing reports were filed, but neither Akira nor Hana was never found. Some say Akira is still lurking around Musutafu, refusing to let anyone close to Hana. And if some unlucky bastard comes across them... well, they'll just befall the same fate as the rest of the tour group that day.”
With that Bakugou sat back, a pleased grin on his face and his arms crossed. There were no words spoken, no screams. Just silence. This story had been different from the others. All the others were meant for cheap scares and a quick fun shot of panic. This one left a lingering sense of unease. Sure you all were fairly sure the story was fake, but the content was unsettling and the unresolved ending sent a chill down your spine. After a while, Kiri was able to shake off the silence with a somewhat nervous laugh. “Whoa, Bakubro. That was… intense. I think I speak on behalf of all of us when I saw you win.”
“I told you I would.” Despite his pridefulness, no one wanted to object.
“I think we can call it a night, then. We do still have studying to do this weekend and it’s best not to break our sleep schedules any further than we already have.” Iida spoke, and you felt your heart drop. How could anyone even consider going to sleep now? Much less leave the safety of the group. With mumbles and whispers, your classmates dispersed, most in groups-- for sleepovers you figured. Eventually, all that was left was you and Midoriya who made to get up. Hesitantly you untangled yourself from him, tugging the quilt closer to you, the weight of the fabric bringing a small sense of comfort. Though, not enough comfort to replace the chill that came from the lack of warmth that Midoriya put out.
“Hey, are you coming?” A hand was extended to you and when you looked up to see his face, you saw a sympathetic expression adorning his features. “Kacchan used to tell me stories like that when we were younger. I remember how scared they made me feel.” Your hand found his and he hoisted you up, hand never leaving yours even after you were standing. “Would you-- um, well, I mean, if you’re scared, maybe you’d like to stay with me?” Butterflies took flight in your tummy.
“If that’s okay with you, I'd like that.”
“Of course!” Even in the darkness, you could see the redness dusting his cheeks. “Like I said before, I want to make you feel safe.”
You smiled at the softness of the boy before you, he really was too sweet. Moving before you could stop yourself you planted a light kiss on his cheek. “Thank you.”
“Wha- Yes. Ah, an-anytime!” You giggled at his flustered stuttering. His hand still holding yours, he led you to his room. “I can take the floor so you can have the be-”
“We aren’t going to cuddle?” You two essentially already had been laying together, so you were rather confused by his sudden timidness.
“You wouldn’t mind?” You shook your head, then realizing that he might not have been able to see you in the dark, you spoke a soft ‘no’. “Alright, then.” Minutes later you were laying, head against his chest with his arms holding you securely. Your legs slightly tangled. He’d tugged your quilt over the both of you. “Hey, (Y/N), are you asleep?”
“Mm?”
“Ah, sorry, did I wake you?”
“It’s okay. What’s up?”
“I just wanted to say… I really like you, like more than just friends.”
You giggled. “I like you a lot too, like more than just friends.” He hummed happily, thumb rubbing circles into your back. Despite your earlier scare, you could easily admit that you felt safe and secure and incredibly loved, laying in the arms of Midoriya.

Boo
Pairing: Kaminari Denki x African American! Reader
Request: Hello! Could I make a request please? Could you write an African American! Exchange student! X Kaminari Denki?(or Hitoshi Shinsou, all my faves are problematic) If I need to be more specific, I have an idea: •The reader is normally a tough girl, but Since its spooky season™️ the two of them decide to go to a haunted house and it turns out she gets spooked pretty easily -> teasing ensues But anything would be fine because I like your writing style! If you dont have the time, that's ok, thank you!
AN: I'm sorry if it's short and or trash but I love this goofy fool sm and I'm really happy someone requested him!!! (ALSO I HATEMYSELF YOU REQUESTED THIS IN OCTOBER AND IM POSTIN IT IN JUNE END ME)
"Remind me again why I agreed to do this shit?"
"I’ve always said one day my daring charm and wit would finally getcha’- please don’t go I was just playing!" He laughed out catching my elbow before I could escape the oncoming headache.
"No, you said we were going to a pumpkin patch dickhead, this ain’t a pumpkin patch." You felt your eye twitch as you walked closer to your real destination, the scariest Halloween attraction in your town.
"I may have stretched the nature of the pumpkins, they'll still be here! Just on the heads of people trying to kill you in a corn maze.”
Almost as if to emphasize his statement shrill screams coming from within the maze finally reached your ears, and shit did it send a chill up your spine, but you weren’t about to tell him that. Huffing out a laugh you turned to face the eccentric blonde, "We're gonna have to square up after this you know that right?"
"What? I'm not a square! I picked this place after all." He boasted gesturing to the haunting atmosphere hanging over the two of you, before you could correct him on the term a particularly loud shriek had the both of you jumping in place, the sudden movement caused your hand to ever so slightly brush against his, unknown to you, but the harmless action had his heart racing faster than the zombie that chased the two of you from the ticket booth to where you now stood.
“If something grabs me i’m going to hit you.”
He laughed holding a hand to his chest in mock hurt, “Why are you gonna hit me?! I’ll only grab you if you ask- wAIT STOP LEAVING.”
“Well i’m not gonna hit the worker, they’re just doing their job.”
“You know I’m surprised.”
“What that I actually dragged my ass outta bed to be here? Me too.”
“No, well yes and no heh.” You turned to face him, overly aware of your place in line and how it slowly but surely grew closer to the dark entrance.
“Well you seem kinda..”
“Is there an end to that sentence?”
“Don’t bite my head off okay?” he anxiously toyed withe the strings of his hoodie, his eyes darting around from your face to the floor,
“You almost seem kinda, scared?”
“Boy if you don’t-”
“Next.”
Was the only word the doorman said as he ushered the two of you forward, cutting off your defense before it could begin, you’ve been in burning buildings, the bad end of a gun fight and can proudly say you’ve talked back to your mama and lived to tell the tale, statistically, you a bad bitch, things can’t shake you.
cept’ this.
The air seemed to grow colder as you wordlessly moved forward, your hands twitched at your sides, the longer nothing happened the tighter you tensed up.
“Pretty cool huh?” he whispered at your side making you jump nearly two feet in the air, your hands flying up to press against your temples.
“Whhhat the hell man? Why would you go and do some shit like that?”
He tried in vain to bite back a smile at your reaction, pausing his steps he stared down at you, “So you are scared!”
“Well no, your loud ass whispering caught me off guard is all.” He rolled his eyes, the grin on his face only growing as you suddenly picked up the pace, he had to jog to not lose you.
“Wait up a second here-”
“What good does that do anyone in horror movies ever? Exactly.” He laughed tugging at your sleeve.
“Come on! I’ve been asking you out since you transferred and you finally said yes, stay a while.” The urge to clown him for the line was strong, only outweighed by the urge to throw him a bone, to his credit, he had been asking you out since your first day in class, you gave him an elaborate excuse not to go every single time, it became sort of a game, no matter how ridiculous the lies got, he never argued, never got mean like a lot of people do when they get rejected, instead he’d laugh along and swear one day he’d get you to say yes, and somewhere, along the way, among the jokes and terrible, garbage pick up lines, you began to notice a few things about Denki Kaminari.
The first was that he had two sides, the guy who tries to be cool, the school flirt, this is the guy he usually was, but there was also this version of him that switches his Netflix to English when you come over, just to make it easier for you to enjoy, the kinda guy that sends you memes when you’ve had a bad day, the kinda guy who actually remembered how homesick you got talking about Halloween back home so he tried to surprise you with what he no doubt thought was a good idea.
Points for effort.
You sighed slowing your pace to fall beside him, once ore you continued forward in silence, you finally came to a choice in the path, left or right.
“So, where we going?” you asked subtly inching closer to him, the skin crawly feeling seemed to spread as you stared down the offending paths, knowing no matter where you went, some scurry shit was waiting for you.
“You tell me gorgeous.”
“Why the hell should I know?” he rolled his eyes, tugging you with a grin
“Fine! Lets go this way.” he began walking to the left, to his surprise you’d suddenly latched on his arm pulling him back.
“D-Don’t the screams sound louder down there?”
He tried to memorize the way you wrapped around his arm, not knowing if he’d get the chance again, he was so caught up he nearly forgot how to speak.
“Okay, no problemo, uh right it is-” a shout from that direction halted both your steps.
“Well shit.”
“Took the words right out my mouth.”
“Only way out is through babe.” he hesitantly gripped your hand in his own, his hold loose enough for you to pull away, when you didn’t, he swallowed thickly before tightening his grip.
“Come on, I got you scaredy cat .” he gently tugged your rigid form along thanking every deity he knew he found this place online
“If you let me die on our first date I’m telling god.”
“Ah-Ha! You admit this is a date?”
“Yes! whatever get me thefuckupouttahere!” your words were rushed as you tugged him forward, sidestepping a zombie on the floor, your grip was iron but he couldn’t find the heart to care, not when you were wrapped around him in a way he’d only imagined before.
The rest of the event was a blur as you dodged any and everything you seen, in fact it wasn’t until he pointed it out did you realize you'd ran all the way back to the train station.
While you leaned on your knees and desperately tried to get air back into your body, he was busy watching you with the sweetest little smile curling on his lips, because even in a moment like this you were still the prettiest girl he’d ever seen, and as that thought processed, he understood just how whipped he was.
“Sorry, I didn’t realize that be so scary.”
“Okay, you wanna makes jokes huh, fine next time we’re going on the biggest roller coaster in japan and I’m gonna watch your soul leave your body.”
“Can’t wait sugar.” he said looping an arm around your shoulders.

Preview: “Drink?” “Ja, please. ”He was already doing so without much prompt from the other man, holding both glasses gently and setting them down on the island, looking around to the large and comfortable living room behind him. “Say, do you like scary movies, Felix?” He paused, grabbing a towel from the handle of the oven and opening it to check the food. “Can’t say I’m a fan, but they’re… alright.” “Oh really?” He gave a sly grin, leaning his elbows on the kitchen island and fiddling with a knife in the block sitting just by the edge. “What’s your favourite scary movie?”
The quiet sound of the TV humming was only drowned out by the sound of his shoes against the linoleum, moving around the kitchen as he continued to prepare dinner. The house had always seemed emptier since his girlfriend had moved out, and especially now, on Halloween night. It was the weekend, and the child’s bedroom upstairs was not giving out noise, as it had done most weekends like this one. His young daughter was staying with her mom tonight, in the bigger part of the city, where she could have the best experience of the night she could. Felix didn’t mind. There was always next weekend, and the weekend after. So the night was probably occupied with wine, pizza, and staying up to work on another project almost done but due months in advance… not the most glamorous of evenings, but he could think of much worse alternatives.
The phone rang suddenly, and after closing the door to the oven with his leg, the architect moved to grab the receiver from the kitchen island. “Richter residence.”
“Hello, Felix.” The voice on the other side of the phone was distorted, and foreign to him. A stranger’s voice.
He paused. “...Hello?”
Whoever was down the phone chuckled. “How’re you doing?”
“...Well enough. Who is this?”
“Oh, that’s not important.” Despite the overlay, the voice had an… odd smoothness to it, like caramel. “What’re you doing right now?”
“I’m not going to answer that.”
“Oh really? Because I’d say you have about, hm… 20 minutes before you start a nasty fire. Pizza, was it? Can almost smell it from here.”
“From where?!”
A knock against the window by the kitchen sink made him jump where he stood, tossing the phone between his hands in surprise as his eyes shot up to the window, at the familiar olive ones staring back at him.
The architect practically slammed the phone back down onto the receiver, opening the kitchen window and looking outside, cold air hitting his face as he spoke through gritted teeth. “Danny.”
“Felix!” He sounded absolutely delighted, slapping the top of his old phone down into itself and shoving both it and the small voice distorted box he held into opposing pockets, as he smiled up at him. “How lovely to see you, darling. How have you been?”
“What is your problem?!”
“Alphabetically or in order of relevance, babe? Look, let me in, would you? I’m cold.”
“You… I thought you were working?”
“I was! I took care of it.”
He blinked.
“...Not like that. Christ, have some faith in me, sunshine.”
“You’re making it very hard to.”
Danny chuckled. “I’ll meet you at the door.”
It had been over a year now since he’d woken up from the fog, and a few months since he’d found Danny Johnson, of all people, had also escaped the Entity’s clutches, apparently having grown tired of killing for sport and allowing himself to be let go from his playground. The two had messed around in that realm, yes, and had gotten dangerously close to a fairytale ending, but never got around to popping that ever-present question of what they really were. Now, out of the fog, they’d taken that chance, and while Felix was still getting used to the journalist’s odd ways of coping with the lack of murder in his schedule, things were going smoothly.
“No little tyke today?” He asked this as he walked in, taking off his light jacket and hanging it from the racks by the door, rubbing his arms from the cold October air outside as he turned around again.
“Ah, no. Not this weekend.” Felix replied, locking the door behind him again, and making sure to do the chain, in case any… real mystery callers came to stalk the house tonight. Not that it was likely, but it was never impossible - after all, he had an expert in that field standing right in front of him.”
Danny scoffed a little. “Shame. I’ve started to enjoy seeing her more than I do you.”
“Charming. Remember who’s house you let yourself into, Johnson.”
“Aht, you let me in of your own free will, Richter, and I expect you to be hospitable to your most handsome of guests.” And yet, he was already making himself well as home, reaching for two champagne flutes from glass-doored cupboards above his head and for a glass of champagne in the small wine rack below the counter. “Drink?”
“Ja, please.”
He was already doing so without much prompt from the other man, holding both glasses gently and setting them down on the island, looking around to the large and comfortable living room behind him. “Say, do you like scary movies, Felix?”
He paused, grabbing a towel from the handle of the oven and opening it to check the food. “Can’t say I’m a fan, but they’re… alright.”
“Oh really?” He gave a sly grin, leaning his elbows on the kitchen island and fiddling with a knife in the block sitting just by the edge. “What’s your favourite scary movie?”
Felix stood up fully as he shut the door, glancing back catching Danny staring back. He turned with a slight smile as he walked back over to the island, and matched him, placing his hand on top of his, holding the knives in place. “You say this as if we haven’t lived in one.”
“But it was fun, right?”
“It was not… but I did like the ending.”
He hummed, tilting his head in a mock curiosity, the two of them sharing a quiet laugh together before Danny leaned in and placed a quick, soft kiss on his lips, before pulling away. “And we haven’t even got to the after-credits scene yet. Won't that be a scream, eh?” A quick wiggle of his eyebrows sent Felix into giggles, as the man ran a hand down his face.
“Oh, you’re insufferable.”
He pushed himself away from the kitchen island, grabbing his champagne as he did shooting the architect a wink as he took a quick drink and went to go scour the shelves in the main room for something to indulge in, very loudly critiquing his small collection of older movies, mostly documentaries for background noise while he was working (“Jesus, I thought you were in your thirties, not from the 1930s, you old coot”).
The pizza was soon prepared with a loud beep of the oven, served on the coffee table in front of the large flatscreen in the centre of the room. Felix swapped his glass from one hand to the other to take the remote from Danny, who had taken to scrolling down various streaming sites to pick a movie to watch, but the journalist moved his arm to keep it out of his reach.
“...Danny.”
“C’mon. It’s on me.”
“It’s my house.”
“And I had it first.”
“You are an absolute… child.”
He looked over to the architect, sticking his tongue out to match a childish persona, before looking back to the television.
And though Felix knew he should be annoyed, he couldn’t help but chuckle, more than used to this behaviour as he leaned in as rested his head on Danny’s shoulder, listening to the way his heart beat in his chest, and how he breathed in and out. At one point, he doubted the man was human, hunting as an animal would. But here, in his own home, where he should have thought of a man so calm as nothing more than a stranger to him… he was so very human, and he loved every part of him.
Especially as an arm was wrapped around his shoulder, and a kiss was planted on his head, as if it was second nature to the man who, from the way his memory served, would have rather died than do something so… cliche.
It was an indie horror he ended up picking, a site original, and the two of them took great pleasure in picking it apart, finding more humour in the whole thing as they shared pizza and more than a few drinks. Felix didn’t remember seeing the credits, but he did remember the way a blanket wrapped around his shoulders, and how he woke up with a neck cramp and the sun in his eyes, still held in Danny’s arms, where he smiled to himself, and quickly fell back asleep again.

We’re Monsters. Isn’t It Fun? - Chapter 1
Masterlist - Next
A/N: This is for @stop-it-anxiety ‘s Fall Fic Contest. Prompt used was “Monster”. Figured October 1st would be the perfect time to post this!
Warnings: Spooky dark stuff in like an Addam’s Family the movies type way.
Summary: The dark sides love the scary things in life. They thrill in scaring each other. Deceit raised his kid sides, Remus and Virgil, to be proud of this. And then they met the light sides...
***
His prey in sight, he crept along. Crouched close to the ground. His lips pulled back in a snarl as he prepared to pounce. Launching onto the sitting figure, he roared loudly, “Be afraid! Be very Afraid!”
“Oh no! You got me!” Deceit dramatically bemoaned as he fell backwards onto the couch. Virgil landed softly on his chest, doing his best scary face as he hissed at his victim. Dee chuckled, smirking up at his son with fondness in his eyes. “Truly a terrifying monster.”
Virgil smiled triumphantly, “I scared you, Dad!”
A sound of rushing footsteps is heard as another figure sped wildly into the room. “Monster! Where’s a monster?” Remus shouted excitedly. He ran around the living room, looking for the fearsome beast.
Virgil stood up on top of Dee, causing the parental side to groan in pain. “I’m the monster! I’m the scariest thing in the mind palace!” He threw his hands into the air, causing lightning to flash behind him. “Hahahaha.” He attempted to top it off with his best impersonation of an evil laugh, which in reality was just a slightly deeper version of his normal laugh.
Dee scooped his son up, standing with a yell. “I’ve caught you!”
Remus ran to grab onto Dee’s legs, “I’m a monster too! Let my brother go, you hideous knight! Together we’ll roast you up and eat your entrails!” Remus attempted to gnaw on Deceit’s legs.
“Augh!” Deceit feigned pain. “You’ve killed me.” He collapsed to the ground still holding Virgil close to his chest. “What am I to do against two vicious beasts such as yourselves.”
“We won!” Remus shrieked happily. Virgil was clinging to Dee’s caplet after falling to the ground with him.
Remus grabbed onto Virgil’s arm. “Come on, V! Let’s go into the imagination and kill some knights!”
“I just want to scare them.” He mumbled as he crawled off of Deceit, following Remus out of the living room.
“Remus. Virgil. I know you two aren’t planning to go into the imagination without your weapons. Are you?”
“I got ‘em, Dad.” Remus whined. “It’s no fun without them.”
“We’ll be safe, Dad!” Virgil grinned happily.
Deceit eyed them skeptically. “I totally trust you brats. And I know that you guys are going to stay in the Dark Forest. Because if you don’t the light sides will find you, and make you take a bath.” He pointed at Remus, who shuddered at the thought. “And sing cherry songs.” He sneered at Virgil’s horror stricken face.
“Noooo!!” Remus cried loudly and ran off to his room.
Virgil jumped and scrambled after him. “Wait for me!”
Deceit laughed maniacally as he watched his kids scramble off towards the imagination.
***
“Mary, Mary, Quite contrary.
How does your garden grow?
With silver bells, and cockle shells,
And pretty maids all in a row.”
Remus swung his morning star in wide overarching circles singing loudly about bloody mary as Virgil crouched above him, watching from his perch in a tree. His grin was creeping ever wider as he eyed his brother, readying a leap of attack when…
“Are you sure about this, Roman?”
His ears perked up at the strange voice. “Remus, quiet!” He hissed out.
Remus cut off his singing, cocking an eyebrow up at his brother. “What’s up?”
“There’s people. They’re in our forest!” Virgil held tightly onto the tree as he leaned towards the direction of sound. His sharp hearing picked up another voice.
“It’s fine, Patt. I got a sword. Anything comes close and wham, bam!”
“Let’s kill ‘em.” Remus happily bounced below him.
Virgil nodded in thought. “We gotta scare ‘em off before Dad finds out.”
Virgil swung down from the tree landing softly beside his brother. And together the two dark sides ran through the forest, Virgil leading the way as they headed towards the sound of the intruders. Bounding past the shadowy inhabitants of the woods. Running past trees covered in cobwebs, caves with echoes that sounded eerily like wailing, and a stream that ran bright red.
The brothers slowed down as the strangers’ voices became clearer. They crouched down side by side, hidden behind bushes watching their prey enter their field of vision.
“They look like us.” Virgil whispered into Remus’ ear.
‘Light sides.’ Remus mouthed back. His eyes blown wide.
Virgil narrowed his eyes at the trespassers. How dare the light sides come into their domain. Nobody was going to make him sing happy songs. Although, perhaps Remus could use a bath.
Virgil gestured to Remus to go around. The foul side nodded knowingly and slunk away, keeping low to the ground. Virgil eyed the apparent light sides as he waited for Remus to get into position. There were two of them and they seemed to be the same age as Remus and Virgil. One dressed like a prince, how nice, was haphazardly brandishing a katana. The other must have been terrified already. He was jumping at every noise, wringing his hands and biting his lip as he spoke to his companion.
“Dad says we shouldn’t be here, Roman. Can’t we please go back. I’m scared,” He was visibly shaking.
“That’s silly! I am here so you have nothing to fear! We’re gonna defeat the evil of this forest and return as heroes!” This Roman stood proudly, his sword thrust high into the air. Virgil was confused. Heroes were the ones the monsters defeated. Why did he want to be a hero? It was much more fun to be a monster.
The leaves rustled in front of the pair. “Careful, Patton, it might be a scary monster.”
The signal. Remus was in position. Virgil launched himself into the open, he tackled the scared one, growling down at his face. “ScArY LiKe tHiS!” Virgil shouted. His voice doubling deeper and darker than it had ever gone before. Remus in the same instance came launching into view, swinging his morningstar straight at Roman’s face. The light side managed to duck away. Remus used his own demonic voice to screech at the top of his lungs. His eyes glowing red and the light bending around him.
“LeAvE nOw oR DIE. yOu’Re iN ThE pReSeNcE oF tHe DEMENTED.” Remus shrieked as he swung his morning star. Roman attempted to block it with his sword, but the morning star merely knocked it out of his hands.
Virgil was giddy. Remus had fantastic control over his voice and now Virgil was gaining his own. He smiled down at his prey, ready to boast of his achievement. But Patton was crying. Tears were streaming down his face as he looked at Virgil in utter terror. And suddenly, being scary seemed wrong. Bile rose in his throat. What had he done? He had made the light side cry? Being scary was fun but... this wasn’t fun. This was terrible. Scrambling off of Patton, and putting distance between them. He sat there on the ground, his mouth agape in silent apologies. Remus paused his rampage to watch in confusion.
“Virgil?” Remus spoke softly. His voice having returned to normal.
“I scared him.”
“Yeah. That’s what we do. Scaring is fun.”
“FUN!” Roman interrupted. Panting from his attempts to dodge Remus’ attacks. “You think this is fun? You guys are mean!” Roman’s previous bravito abandoned. His hands trembled, his body curled in on himself. “You guys are monsters!”
Patton sat up and Roman ran to hug him close. Patton said nothing. But his eyes remained locked on Virgil. And then the dam broke and he cried out. “Daddy!!” Roman buried his face into Patton’s shoulder and they hugged each other close. Remus came over to stand beside Virgil.
“I don’t get it. What did we do wrong?” He asked him. Virgil said nothing. Only silently stood beside his brother. Remus wrapped his arm around him. Trying his best to comfort his brother, despite not knowing the cause of his distress.
“Patton! Roman!” A voice shouted through the woods. Running footsteps thudded against the forest floor as a sprinting figure rushed towards the shaken group.
“Daddy!” Patton cried again. Roman looked hopeful as he watched the man come into view.
Remus grimaced. “Another intruder.”
The figure, another side, hesitated for only a second before crouching down by the crying light sides and wrapping them in his arms. “Shhh.. It’s okay. I’m here.”
Virgil shifted on his feet self-consciously. An adult light side. They were in real trouble now.
The man looked over at the two hesitant brothers. His gaze was like ice. “What happened here?”
“They scared us.” Patton cries.
“That monster tried to kill me, Dad!” Roman bellowed pointing at Remus.
“I’ll handle it.” The man spoke with care. Standing, he loomed over the child dark sides. His eyes locked onto Remus.
“Your weapon, now.” The man held out his hand.
“NO! Dad says we can’t be in the dark forest without ‘em.” Remus defended, gripping tight onto his beloved morning star.
“And where is Deceit? I would like to talk with him about your behavior today.” His voice rang with authority.
“We didn’t do anything! They’re just being babies.” Remus complained.
The man was not impressed. He peered down at them through his black spectacles. “You terrified them. You made Roman think you were going to kill him. I know you dark sides have a warped sense of fun, but when you torment my children that is crossing a line. A line you do not come back from. If you ever bother my children again… You will have to answer to me.”
“Dark sides?” Roman whispered, pulling back in shock.
“This is unfair! You are the ones that came into our forest!” Remus was growing increasingly agitated. He must really hate this new side. Virgil wasn’t particularly fond of him either. He was making him feel wrong. Was it bad to be a dark side?
“That is not a valid excuse for terror-”
“Daddy! I want to go home!” Patton broke through the shouting.
The light side straightened his shoulders. “I will be escorting my charges back now. I expect you two to return to your own commons. And I will be calling Deceit about your behavior here today.”
Virgil and Remus watched the light sides leave their forest. Remus shouting at their retreating backs to “Stay out of our forest!”
Virgil only turned away. Trudging back through the Dark Forest and towards Remus’s door.
Arriving home, Remus ran to the commons, excited to tell Dee all about their adventures. Virgil followed slowly behind only to stop short upon seeing Dee yelling into the phone. “Well. the brats shouldn’t have been in dark side territory… No! If they don’t want to be scared than they shouldn’t have been idiotic enough to go monster hunting in the Dark Forest!”
Monster hunting? Virgil thought. These light sides really thought that way about monsters.
“Oh please! You know we can’t get hurt. Let alone die!... It’s not my fault Roman doesn’t know that!” Dee was continuing. Remus shuffled up to his dad. Staring up at the man with a grin, bouncing on his toes as he waited for Deceit to be done.
Virgil didn’t want to wait. He just wanted to be alone. He sunk down to his room and landed softly onto his bed. Virgil grabbed his blanket and rolled across his mattress, enveloping his small form in a blanket burrito. Ending face down, he sighed into his pillow. What happened back there?
Deceit had always taught them to be proud of being a dark side. He read them spooky stories and was delighted when they played monster. It was always so much fun being a monster. But now, Virgil just felt sad. He didn’t know if he wanted to be a dark side anymore. He didn’t want to be bad. And the light sides were terrified of him. Did that make him bad?
He shifted to his side and curled his legs up to his chest. He closed his eyes to the world. Virgil had always been scary but he didn’t want to be bad. Was scary bad?
***
A soft knock awoke Virgil. He blinked tiredly, glancing around his room. When had he fallen asleep?
“Virgil.” Deceit’s voice called through the door.
“Dad?”
Deceit slipped into the room. Spying Virgil curled up on his bed, the fatherly side made his way over to sit beside him. Settling in place, Deceit sighed as he looked down at the young anxious side. He reached over and gently brushed Virgil’s hair back from his forehead. “How you doing, Spider?”
Virgil tucked his chin down, looking away from Deceit in answer.
“I’m sorry they yelled at you, bud.”
Virgil studied the stitch in his blanket.
“Remus told me your voice warped. That’s truly horrid news.” Deceit’s smile was evident in his words. But it only made Virgil angry.
“Horrid is bad, Dad! And not fun bad. It’s bad bad.” He huffed.
His father’s eyebrows knit together. “Did the light sides say that? Did they say you were bad?”
“They said we were mean. They said we were scary and Patton cried. We’re monsters. Monsters a- are ba-ad.” Virgil whispered into the dark of his room. His words choking at the end. He bit his lips and willed the tears not to come. He didn’t want to cry.
“Now that’s a blatant lie and I should know. There are plenty of good monsters. I know you know this. Just look at the Yeti. And what about Arabella?” Deceit spoke, pointing to Virgil’s pet spider nestled happily in her terrarium.
“What about her?”
“Well, spiders scare a lot of people because they look different. But that doesn’t make them bad does it?”
“No… Arabella is a good spider.”
“And you are a good side. If you ever doubt that I want you to think about Arabella and then I want you to come find me. I’ll always be there for you, my spider.”
