Random Fire AU - A random fire scatters everyone. People die, people get hurt, people try to find their friends. Lightning struggles with survivor's guilt after watching both Marker and Fanny die in front of him, even as Bubble tells him it wasn't his fault. Black Hole kidnaps his friends. Blocky and Woody probably make out in a tent. Inspiration: A dirty eraser I found in my art box and decided to draw as Eraser BFDI.

Hallucination Cabin AU - A mysterious cabin in the woods. If you go in, you'll get lost in all the doors and hallways. When you do find the door, your friends will tell you that it's not so bad, you could stay here forever. The problem is that none of your friends actually came here with you. Inspiration: idk man. i just wanted angst i think

Rainbow Rocks AU - Death PACT Again takes the place of the Rainbooms in the Rainbow Rocks movie. The original Alliance takes the place of the Dazzlings. A few story bits get changed because Bubble would never try to feed on people's hate and arguments. Inspiration: My Little Pony Equestria Girls Rainbow Rocks

Friendship Games AU - Death PACT Again and are you okay FIGHT!!!! Meanwhile Pen is messing around with Black Hole's gravity power stuff and eventually turns into a weird human-singularity hybrid. Bigender Eraser AU - Eraser is bigender. Eraser uses he/she pronouns. That's literally all it is. Nothing else changes. Inspiration: The "Give her here, Pencil!" argument

Fankids AU - Fries and Puffball, Donut and Barf Bag, and Fanny and Tree get married and have kids (Wafers, Moldy Poptart, and Poison Ivy). Their kids all get along and like to do dinosaur excavations (digging holes). Wafers usually instructs the others on what to do. Inspiration: fankids in general

Murder Battle AU - BFDI but instead of challenges, everyone kills each other. Recovery centers are a huge part of it, of course. The trend continues through all the seasons. Eliminations are probably a lot nicer, ironically. Inspiration: @/wizwadry probably. and also just the idea of woody with an axe

Jinsei no Meiyaku! AU - If Death PACT Again were stereotypical anime characters. They fight the bad people who like to death. They also fight the Shi no Meiyaku. Which ACTUALLY means Death Pact. Inspiration: Anime stereotypes

Candy AU - Tree eats too much candy, turns pink, and starts a candy zombie outbreak. Inspiration: "yOs. my head just feels yuckAy and weird? but! i dOD fOind a time reversal ray!"

Pokémon League AU - 64 contestants compete in a Pokémon tournament. Spoiler: Roboty probably wins (Profily, Grassy and Rocky don't compete) Inspiration: Pokemon anime

Woodblock Marriage AU - Woody and Blocky are married and have a son who was probably created in a lab by Tennis Ball. Blocky is the fun dad and Woody is the eternally sleep-deprived dad. Inspiration: Drawing them with their kid…his name is Chunk because he is too large to be a splinter and too small to be a slab

Get Digging AU - Fries wakes up in a room with a dirt floor. Bomby, who kidnapped him, tells him to get digging, because the key to get out is probably underground. "Probably" does not mean 100%. He has been digging for months. Inspiration: I just wanted to see Fries suffer

Execution AU - Two is a psychopath and elimination means an execution and forever death. One, instead of being a scary kidnapper, might just be trying to save the contestants. Inspiration: Danganronpa probably

Nickel Hanahaki AU - Nickel is in love with Bomby. Bomby is not in love with Nickel. Nickel is vomiting flowers. He has days to live. Inspiration: Hanahaki in general i think

not that anyone's asking BUT my hot take on giovanni is he should be retired rn. not from like a "the pokemon company should stop talking about him" (weeeeelll that's sort of part of it but. hear me out) kind of way BUT in a. he should LITERALLY not be doing team rocket shit in ANY canon universe anymore. and it would be TOTALLY in-character of him to do so if the medias still using him characterized him the way he should be. welcome to my ted talk let me explain myself

FULL DISCLOSURE: i like giovanni. like, a not normal amount i fear. all of that opening sounds like i don't but i totally feel stupid emotions about this guy. anyways:

GEN 1. gen 1 games are like... NOT known for their compelling dialogue. and in cases like archie and maxie in gen 3 getting remakes in gen 6, their characterization and dialogue gets (kind of subjectively but i feel this is a popular opinion anyways) Much Better. i think that goes for a Lot of stuff where they give old guys new dialogue in spin offs (gestures at masters ex which i think is Great for making characters Actually Interesting)

but i feel like with giovanni there's been a DOWNGRADE in character since his appearance because he no longer Progresses.

i WILL say masters ex does Some Work to try and make him Deeper than just "I'm Evil for the sake of Being Evil grahgghh 😈" but it's like. overshadowed by All The Other Stuff.

plus he IS rainbow rocket giovanni in masters and i'm like OBSESSEDDD with team rainbow rocket. but i also don't think it should. Exist. I'M GLAD IT DOES but i find it out of character for giovanni to do At All. I CAN EXPLAIN I PROMISE.

team rocket's goals as an organization are and always have been: make money via stealing or otherwise exploiting pokémon. that's all it NEEDED to be. because it was gen 1 and no one needed to be ripping apart the universe yet.

giovanni himself sees pokemon as a means to an end. that much has stayed consistent in all of his appearances. but what CHANGES things in what happens when he LOSES for the FINAL TIME in r/b/y:

I WILL DEDICATE MY LIFE TO THE STUDY OF POKEMON. that's like CRAZY sort of redemption. and you Could argue against me to say "well have you considered he was lying" and i Have but i think it's SO much cooler if he was being legit. if he was so Changed by losing So Many Times to a little boy who just cared So Much for his pokémon that he needed to experience that for himself.

I mentioned in my previous giovanni post that pokémon origins has characterized giovanni "right" and THAT'S because via continuously fighting red and seeing his passion for battling as well as his love of pokémon firsthand, giovanni rediscovers his lost passion for pokémon that he had when HE was younger, and he sees HIMSELF in who red is and decides to disband team rocket after their gym battle so he can turn his life around. i HIGHLY recommend watching episode 3 of origins if you haven't seen it. it's freaking Marvelous.

ANYWAYS. THIS is the characterization of giovanni i support the MOST because it's not terribly complicated but still has nice depth to his character that you could read into.

BUT if we're going by this characterization of him, he should. NOT BE DOING TEAM ROCKET STUFF NOW! he SHOULD have been retired storywise by game freak after that and retired job-wise. studying pokémon and touching grass.

but THEN. gen 2 happens. (... well, gen 2 and the first gens 1/2 remakes.)

gen 2 introduces the concept of "let's bring giovanni back". which i wouldn't complain about if giovanni wasn't ALSO trying to get back. WHY. WE ESTABLISHED IN THE FIRST GAME HE'S DONE. and gen 2 didn't DIRECTLY SAY giovanni was up to come back (as far as i'm aware, i did NOT play gsc, someone correct me if i'm wrong). but when frlg released, they Changed dialogue from the original to FIT this idea:

NOW "studying pokemon" has become "training". there IS no character development for him here, he JUST wants to get stronger to be a Better mob boss. and this is supported by the celebi time travel event where he's ABOUT to rejoin team rocket before you beat him

the big problem with this (and any giovanni dialogue in the time travel event) for me is that it frames everything that happened to him in gen 1 as "giovanni wasn't a good enough mob boss then but now that he's had some time to Train he's ready to be a Better Mob Boss" WRONG! THAT WAS NEVER THE ISSUE!! part of the pros of team rocket at its peak was that giovanni was Unknown to most and could direct operations in the shadows AND he could keep his business as a gym leader because NO ONE KNEW. but now EVERYONE knows and team rocket can LITERALLY NEVER REACH THAT PEAK AGAIN. the ONLY CORRECT thing to do in this situation is Disband and Do Other Shit (cough cough study pokémon and touch grass cough cough)

this seems obvious to me that this desire to keep dragging him back into things is the games way of being like "woaahh!! callback time!!" and then later down the line "woaaahh!! nostalgia time!!!" (because they wouldn't have retconned that final gen 1 dialogue if it wasn't) and while i can Appreciate it to a degree (because i am Not Immune to getting STUPID EXCITED when old blorbos show up) i think continuing to make giovanni show up to Be Evil isn't the way to go about it. or at LEAST not canon timeline giovanni.

and the gen 1/2 remakes for ME is like... the beginning of the issue, but as we've gotten Further Away from gen 1 in time, the more i feel they stray from where he ended in the original in favor of making him More Blandly Evil. he feels constrained to one-liners about how the worlds an EVIL PLACE and he's just playing the game or whatever alpha sigma shit he's on in the masters trainer lodge

rainbow rocket is kind of CRAZY to me because they take this mob boss who likes exploiting pokemon and scientists for money and they make him start. opening interdimensional bad ending au wormholes to take over the world with aliens. (also having him willing to share the power with all the other evil bosses, some who have in their universes Successfully taken over the world??? heeeellll no. not even my proposed toned down characterization of this guy would be cool with that realistically.) it all just seems to be Way Beyond what team rocket SHOULD be doing. they're The Mafia. making The Mafia open wormholes is CRAZY. but giovanni HAS to be the main guy because. Nostalgia.

idk how much sense i make when i say this but when you make team rocket less cunning and less focused on doing their work in the shadows and running their shady operations stealthily. you get. a more ambitious team skull. and there's nothing WRONG with team skull but it's NOT WHAT TEAM ROCKET IS SUPPOSED TO BE. they've got more of a reputation than that but modern depictions of giovanni and the organization as a whole water him down to "i love Causing Problems" and less "i love Good Business"

whatever. giovanni in modern depictions MAKES SENSE if you followed along the slow regression of his character in real time. but i feel like if you look where he is now and look where he Ended in r/b/y you have like. Two Different Characters. and i think having a redeemed or even kind-of-half-redeemed giovanni could be SO much more interesting in showing up again than having him be Generally Evil

AND IT'S NOT LIKE THAT REALLY POSES ISSUES FOR MASTERS EX. cyrus is half-reformed WITHIN the story. archie and maxie too (although they were already kind of like that). lysandre HAS an evil moment but he DOESN'T DIE like he does in canon and THEN he's FINE. he still "runs" team flare but he's NOT LONGER A THREAT TO THE PROTAGONISTS

what i think COULD'VE been cool in some hypothetical scenario is have giovanni come back for cameos but Not as team rocket's leader. have him Turn Down the rocket admin radio broadcast. hell, having him come back to help the player Stop Them if he feels particularly annoyed. LET THAT MAN GO ON VACATION. WHATEVER. there's SO MUCH you can do with him the way cameos are done for the Other non-evil characters and there are options where you could Still battle him as a Test Of Strength but THERE'S JUST. SO MUCH WRONG WITH HIM STILL BEING OVERTLY EVIL.

i understand keeping giovanni evil for nostalgia. i Get it i PROMISE i do. i just think it makes him a weaker character, and the companies sacrifice character development for sales. but if you wanted to have a bad guy who was JUST BAD and would CONTINUE to be bad if given the chance,

GHETSIS IS. RIGHT THERE.

that's the end of that for me i think. i'm SO down to discuss or debate this take for fun. i just think giovanni should retire and pet his cat because it's funny.

General N Headcanons

By my estimate, I think that N would probably be in his early 20’s. Not quite young (well, still young) but not old. He gets mistaken for a teenager, which happens quite often.

Being adopted and raised by Ghetsis has been a nightmare to say the least. N’s not going to pretend that growing up with this man, whom influenced and shaped his world’s perspective, has been all sunshine and rainbows. Being exposed to Pokémon who have been mistreated has traumatized N, and whatever “kindness” that Ghetsis has expressed usually consisted of empty praises and promises that were always one-sided and manipulative.

Continuing with N and Ghetsis’s relationship, these two were nearly inseparable. Ghetsis had to have N close by so as to not let others get close to him. Creepy as that sounds, Ghetsis didn’t want anyone else influencing N, nor insert their own philosophy onto him. Giving him ideas. Opinions that would shake his worldview. N, at the time, didn’t seem to mind. After all, N had no reason to question Ghetsis, he had no inclination that this man would backstab him one day. N, as a child, viewed these moments with Ghetsis as father-son time. Ghetsis couldn’t care less about the boy; N happened to be another cog, an important cog, in Ghetsis’s master plans.

Aside from Ghetsis “educating” N, the other Seven Sages stepped in as N’s teachers. They were his tutors and taught him math, science, history and the like.

Concordia and Anthea have always been truly kind and supportive of N. Both girls are not blood related but are orphans who were adopted by Ghetsis. Both were found in the forests of Unova: Concordia in Pinwheel and Anthea in Lostlorn. They don’t possess the kind of ability that N has, but their nurturing nature has been a source of positivity and comfort for N while growing up isolated from the world.

When N got older and set out on his journey, he didn’t expect the massive culture shock of being out in the real world to be so overwhelming. Like, initially, he wanted to turn back. However, despite being out of place, N pressed on and hoped that wherever he went, this journey will be worth it in the end.

N’s an avid reader and has absorbed information about Unova from books and other materials that contained information about the various cities, their foundation, and other factoids. While he has never ventured out of the castle to explore such places, N has got a pretty good idea on what each city looks like.

He has a fascination with mythology and likes to adventure in old ruins that are in Unova. Occasionally spends more time in the Relic Castle or at Dragonspiral Tower to uncover more secrets. Would like to visit other regions someday to see their ancient sites.

After Team Plasma disbanded, N kind of wandered. He didn’t have anywhere to go and N didn’t mind. He liked traveling and being able to meet other Pokémon along the way. Still, he might occasionally pay Alder a visit.

N talking fast has people speculating, but really, it’s all natural. Honestly, N doesn’t like to talk for long periods of time and tries to keep conversations short. Oftentimes, he speaks fast due to him wanting to get to the point quickly. However, he’ll stumble over his words or may get incoherent whenever he speaks too quickly. This doesn’t come from anxiety or some speech disorder.

Despite being good at technology, N cannot figure out social media for the life of him.

Whenever N isn’t wearing his hat, he gets mistaken for a girl. He doesn’t mind though. His hair has grown quite long and he’ll put it up in a ponytail if gets hot or wet, or in a braid for fun.

Keeps in touch with Hilda and Hilbert sometimes. They don’t often see each other, but X-Transciever calls are commonplace for these three to talk and catch up. In person, it’s usually in Nimbasa.

This might be odd, but I’ve always imagined N being really into cottage core. I mean, if he wanted to, he could set up a cute little cottage in the woods and tend to the wild Pokémon, just being a humble, cozy fellow straight out of a Disney movie. He has the vibe and I can see N singing with a Pidove perched on his finger like he’s Snow White.

N doesn’t know who his birth parents are or where he came from initially. He just knows that he spent a majority of his young childhood in the company of Pokémon.

N doesn’t like to be hugged by people (Pokémon only). He’ll give a handshake or a high-five, but hugs are a bit much. He never received a hug from another human being and physical contact makes N a little uneasy.

N wishes that he could go back in time and prevent his past self from encountering Ghetsis. It’s a sad thought that plagues his mind with hypothetical scenarios playing out. What would’ve changed? Would Ghetsis have found someone else to use? How would he have functioned living with other people? How would his truths and ideals be challenged? These questions keep N up at night.

Reshiram/Zekrom care a great deal about N. They act like a surrogate parent for him and are protective of his well-being.

For something more light-hearted, N likes to do arts-n-crafts and other activities that involve fiddling with objects. Making bracelets with string, beads, and other accessories are his favorite, but he likes to do origami and other paper crafts. It’s extremely relaxing for him.

The Vast and the Buried cancel each other out (they both do less damage to each other)

The Hunt is weak to the End (more theoretical, as the Hunt is everlasting and the End contradicts that)

This page of little doodles was a lot of fun! I started off just drawing Chloé and then her as a Team Galactic member just sort of happened! I kinda made it up as I went lol, but I got really attached to the concept lol.

Basically it would be dependant on Chloe never getting her Eevee or any other Pokémon, and instead more grew to resent them. Everyone had so many expectations of her growing up to be like her dad, and he paid more attention to pokémon then her (not to mention Goh and Ash seeing him more often then she did), eventually culminating in that one episode where her parents cancel their family trip last minute because of Pokémon work and so Chloe goes to Sinnoh alone.

But instead of meeting Dawn there, she meets Cyrus and Team Galactic. I think Cyrus’s whole ‘human emotion and spirit cause suffering so let’s make a world without it’ thing would resonate with her, and she’d join the team, quickly rising the ranks to Commander (much to the chagrin of the other Commanders lol)

Then the Team Rocket Goh idea is something completely different lol, less of an actual au and more of just a two part episode spanning idea. Basically Ash and Goh run into Giovanni and since he’s a Kanto gym leader they end up giving him a tour of Cerise labs. He’s super impressed by how many Pokémon Gohs caught, and so later has some grunts kidnap him and use Hypnos to make him think he was always a Team Rocket member (think season 5 Carmen Sandiego). So then Ash and Chloe have to team up with Jessie and James to get Goh back to normal before it’s too late!

As you can tell I had a lot of fun with these lol

One year ago today, the finale to Ash Ketchum’s 25 year journey, To Be a Pokémon Master, came onto Netflix in English, with the episode “The Rainbow and the Pokémon Master!”. And one year ago today I sat in my room in the dark, sobbing, as I watched him and Pikachu defeat Leon in the Masters Eight tournament. He had finally become the very best that ever was.

Last year I set out on a quest to finally watch the entire Pokémon anime after I heard his journey had ended in the Japanese version. It took seven months, but I did it. And today I have for you: a tier list of every opening song from the English dub!

I’ve been working on this video pretty much all year and I had a lot of fun doing it! Revisiting the series is very interesting for me because it brings me back to the stuff that was happening in my life last year. My friends from Twitter might remember me livetweeting the watchthrough, or they muted me, which is fair.
