Blackbucks at Guindy National Park- Tamilnadu
Guindy National Park, adjacent to the Raj Bhavan, is situated in the Mambalam, Guindy taluk in Chennai. Guindy National Park, The smallest national park in India and one of the few located in a metro. The park is an extension of the grounds surrounding the official residence of the governors of Tamil Nadu. History
Guindy National Park- Tamilnadu
The park with an area of 2.82 sq. km has a strong historical background. Originally a game reserve of 400 hectares, it was owned by Gilbert Rodericks, a British citizen. When Gilbert died, in 1821 the Tamil Nadu government purchased it and the surrounding wooded property for a sum of Rs. 35,000/. The place was declared as reserved forests in 1910. The then Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru allotted a portion of the Guindy forest as a park for children. In 1958, it was handed over to the Forest department and in 1978 the entire forest area was declared as Guindy national park.
Flora
Guindy National park consists of various vegetation zones mainly tropical dry evergreen flora with over 350 species of plants including trees, shrubs, climbers, herbs and grasses. 24 varieties of trees including Amona Squamosa, Atlanta Monoplylla, Feronia Limonia, Azadirachta India and many others are found in this park.
The Animals
Spotted Deer
You can find a variety of animal life at the National Park. The rare Indian Antelope, popularly known as the “Black Buck”, forms the main attraction at the Park. You will be amazed to know that this variety of antelope is found only in India. The park is also rich in mammalians as there are over 14 types of mammals like Elephant, Spotted Deer, Antelope, Toddy Cat, Jungle Cat etc. There are many varieties of amphibians and snakes in the National Park.
The Birds
For bird lovers the Park is a great place to be in as it accounts for over 37 varieties of birds like the King Fisher, Golden Backed Woodpecker, Blue Jay, Yellow Wattled Lapwing, Crow Pheasant, Red Wattled Lapwing, Blue Faced Malkoha, Koels, Shrikes, Doves, Munias, Minivets, Barkets, Gray Partridge, Parakeets, Tailor Birds, Drongos, Robins, Quails, Flycatcher, Beak Paradise, Stone Curlew and many more.
Peacock
A snake park housed within this park supports various snakes, crocodiles and turtles. This is a place where a lots of tourists are getting are attracted.

Chennai Central is well connected to all the major cities in India. By Bus Chennai metro city is connected to all parts of the India by road. TSTC and other private bus services provide services to all cities in the state. Deluxe Volvo bus services are available from Bangalore, Hyderabad, Cochin and Coimbatore
