Call me Vox. I made this blog to share my art - currently obsessed with minecraft but my other interest include undertale, yume nikki, wildlife conservation/restoration, witchy/occult things, reading (trying to get back into that more). Feel free to ask me questions or just say hi :)!
My name is Mohammad, and I’m reaching out in a moment of desperate need. I’m a father of three young children living in Gaza, and we are caught in the midst of a catastrophic war. Our home is no longer a safe haven, and the future here seems increasingly uncertain. 💔
I’ve launched a fundraising campaign with the goal of raising $40,000 to relocate my family to a safer place where my children can grow up in peace and have a chance at a brighter future. 🕊️🇵🇸
Unfortunately, my previous fundraising efforts were abruptly halted when my account was terminated without explanation. However, I remain determined to keep fighting for my family’s safety and well-being. 🫶
If you could take a moment to read our story, consider donating, or simply share our campaign with others, it would make an incredible difference. Every act of kindness, no matter how small, brings us one step closer to safety and a new beginning. 🙏
Thank you for your time, compassion, and support. ❤
learning about plants in ur area is wild. like you also learn about the histories of the plants. Like oh! Thats garlic mustard! That was brought over from europe as a crop! it smells just like garlic and you can cook with it! And thats yarrow! Its been used for tons of stuff and pollinators love it! Oh hey! Thats hemlock! They killed Socrates with that!
"what use is it to be an illustrator of children's books when the world has sentenced the children of your country to the death penalty, to vanish, to genocide?"
some of baraa's illustrations:
this is an illustration for youssef, whose mother is remembered running desperately into the hospital asking if anyone had seen a "small white boy with beautiful curly hair, his name is youssef," a description which was remembered by millions when she finally identified his body:
this illustration is for young omar, who was hugging his little brother and teaching him how to repeat the shahada after him (a prayer spoken by muslims before their death) as he lay on his hospital bed:
"we want a new year that doesn't kill us or our children, we want it a year without blood, without screaming, without pain, we want a new attempt to get our lives back, or something that resembled our life, even if life is a lie we still cling to it, return life to us—a new year's card unlike any other year:"
My recreation of the Vilnius Cathedral. The statues on the roof turned out pretty nice in terms of overall shape, and everything is mostly accurate. Well, as accurate as it can get on that scale. The statues and motifs on the front of the building were hard to get right, but their overall shape mostly matches to the real thing.
I am such an Autumn person. Give me a quiet, cozy spot with a view of the changing trees on a crisp, late September day with a warm drink and a good book and I will be in all my glory.
A minecraft build I did a while ago, a Lonely House. Based on an illustration by FrancisCo.
This uses some perspective tricks that started to be used more at the time:
Built in an older version, I made use of a glitch with shulker shadows to help darken some areas. In 1.16, when you place shulker boxes and move away, the boxes disappear as they are entities, but the shadows remain. That’s why there are so many pink blocks all over :)
I got this idea from a build by Mine674, who made a huge, detailed build with customized shadows all over. You can find it here.
It was pretty fun coloring the clouds and mixing a lot of different blocks to achieve the colors and transitions that match the original image as close as possible.
In the end I was happy with the build as it was my first organic, though some coloring and shaping can definitely be smoother.
If I had to re-do it, I’d also make it more 3D and lean in on using the shadows between the clouds that the sun casts for a better sense of 3D-idness” and a more cartoony, hand drawn look, where the shadows would make for ink or pencil like outlines and accents.
