Knuckles tried to make that jump twelve times.

At this point, the island guardian was exhausted. It was almost dusk, the sky lit up with a beautiful orange hue, as if nothing was wrong. As if Knuckles wasn't stuck in some perpetual hell.

As if he wasn't alone again.

Sitting on the island's edge, eyes locked on that deceptive cloud cover... he started to sulk once again. It wasn't like Knuckles didn't know how it felt to be alone, but for some reason, it bothered him so much more now. Before he met Sonic, or had dealings with Eggman, or even dealt with stopping Rouge from stealing the Master Emerald, he'd spent years alone out here... His father was gone, his tribe passed on, and he was the lone survivor in it all.

Before meeting any of those others, he'd been content with the idea of this place being his home, his world... his tomb. He was content with not knowing about the world outside, since all he knew of it was how there was danger out there, and that said danger was what killed every other member of his kind.

Then the faithful day happened when that blue blur showed up, started making trouble... as well as that egg-shaped scientist. From there, his world expanded greatly. He learned there was so much more to the world outside of Angel Island. At least, there was a lot more than the danger and death he'd come to expect.

And now, back here, his world being return to the tiny size he knew before it all? He felt... claustrophobic. Sorrow gripped at his heart as he realized he'd lost everything he had, and only now was he realizing how much he'd needed that in his life. He hadn't relished what he had until it was... gone.

"... What do I do?"
