Wait...what is Gikwang's infamous broadcast incident and where do I find it?

it is the bad girl inkigayo performance from october 25th 2009, and don't look no further, here is the only hd video of it that i could find. this incident infamously led to the one nipple rule implemented on music shows, led cube entertainment staff to tell gikwang to please just stop stripping on broadcast all the time, and garnered him the nickname fisherman gikwang. lmao.

And chaos has begun~

It was a quiet day at the Hybrid House, everyone was either relaxing or playing in the yard. The protectors were scattered around, at least one with each group of hybrids, “Yah! San, Byungchan. Get away from that fence, we’ve told you two.” Yongguk said as he walked out, picking them both up by the back of their hoodies and carrying them back to the grassy area near the house.

“But Hyungie! We wanted to play with the cute little bunnies!” San whined, his big wide eyes shining with innocence as he pointed to said bunnies near the fence.”

Yongguk looked over toward the fence, tilting his head something didn’t feel right, “Get in the house. Now.” He warned, “But—“ they started but Yongguk giving them a stern look had them darting inside. Gikwang looked over when he heard the scrambling and he made moves to get the other hybrids inside the house safely and without panic.

“What’s going on Guk?” Gik walked over to the wolf, quietly and carefully, “Trouble.” He mumbled before shifting. Gik made quick movements, given his assassin training it was easy, “Protectors, caregivers make sure all the babies are accounted for and here. Where’s Seonghwa?”

“He’s with Christian.” Seungwoo spoke up as he rounded up his group. Taeyang came in with the rest, they did a head count before Gik made his way toward the door as an explosion went off and sent him flying backwards.

“GET THEM TO SAFETY NOW.”

Christian was upstairs with Seonghwa when the explosion went off, quickly scooping him up to get him downstairs with the others and out of harms way. “Hyungie..” Hwa whimpered as he held onto him. He calmed him the best he could, reaching downstairs it was a mess. The front door had been blown apart, Seungwoo and Taeyang were scrambling to get the babies rounded up and to safety, “Gik! Gik!” San was screaming. Gik was laying on the floor, arm over his eyes and withering in pain when Guk came running in.

“Hunters… got most of them..” he stumbled both on his words and his feet, he’d been hit by the explosion as well.

Christian pulled out his phone quickly and dialed the first number he could get to, Hongjoong.

Seungwoo’s phone rang, answering it he looked at Christian, “Vixen Club was hit too.. Minnie..”

When He’s Scared That You’ll Leave Him ~ Highlight Reaction

Doojoon:

Your smile was weak as Doojoon finally returned home, much later than you expected him to. An apology came from Doojoon straight away as he sat down beside you, looking at you in panic that you were still awake.

Your hand rested against Doojoon’s thigh as he took a seat down beside you, “why are you looking at me like that? Have I done something wrong?”

“You’re too good,” he commented.

“Me?” You laughed, pointing at yourself. “Where’s that suddenly come from?” You asked, unaware of how guilty Doojoon felt for making you wait for him to arrive.

His smile matched your own as Doojoon spoke, “how do you keep doing this? I’m always late, or not around, it’s not how I should be.”

“You’re busy with work, you know I understand that.”

“Does your patience not run out though?” Doojoon enquired, “do you ever just want to tell me to go away when I keep cancelling on you.”

“Not at all,” you laughed, nudging against his side. “It’s all part of the job of dating you, I’ve kind of got used to it now anyway.”

Doojoon’s eyes narrowed in your direction, “how can you ever get used to being messed around by me as much as this?”

“I guess you just make it worthwhile.”

Yoseob:

As you began the drive home, you couldn’t help but notice that Yoseob wasn’t quite himself. When you pushed him on it, you got nothing, but eventually he began to explain what had upset him through the night.

You smiled sympathetically as Yoseob worried about the attention you got from some of your colleagues. “You’re not jealous of them, are you?”

“It’s not that,” he responded.

“You think they paid much attention to me?” You then suggested, watching as Yoseob’s head nodded. “Don’t tell me you think that they had my attention, please.”

Yoseob’s nervous stare met your own, “they were all so funny and good looking, even I wouldn’t blame you if you dated one of them Y/N.”

“But you’re the one that I’m dating, none of them.”

“I know,” Yoseob whispered, turning to glance out of the window. “I guess they just made me feel a little insecure, like I’m not good enough.”

“That’s nonsense,” you replied, quickly shutting Yoseob down, “I mean they’re nice colleagues, but they can be so irritating Yoseob.”

A faint chuckle came from him as you reassured him, “you’re really telling me that you like me more than all of them?”

“Of course, that’s exactly what I’m telling you.”

Gikwang:

Your eyes widened in surprise as Gikwang mumbled underneath his breath, concerned that he was taking the stress that he was experiencing at work out on you, fearing how much longer you’d tolerate it.

Your head shook as Gikwang finished, clearing your throat straight away. “Are you kidding me? I want to help you, not get annoyed with you Gikwang.”

“Aren’t I annoying?” He quizzed.

“We all get stressed, it would never give me a reason to leave you,” you chuckled, draping your arm across his shoulders, “you need to talk to me, not worry about me.”

Gikwang’s concerned eyes glanced to where you were beside him, “you’ve taken care of me constantly, doesn’t it start to drive you up the wall?”

“Not when it’s the person you love who needs help.”

“Thank you,” Gikwang whispered, resting his head against the side of yours. “I don’t know what I’d do without you sometimes here with me.”

“Just promise me one thing,” you asked of him, “stop thinking that I’m going to leave, because I’m not, I’m just going to keep supporting you.”

Gikwang nodded as he made his promise to you, “if I start annoying you though, you have to tell me too Y/N.”

“I’ll never get annoyed with you, don’t worry.”

Dongwoon: 

It was understandably hectic as you and Dongwoon prepared to come to the end of packing his belongings for him to head on tour. All evening something that had been up with Dongwoon, eventually spilling.

Your head nodded as Dongwoon voiced his concerns about leaving you and going on tour. “How come you’re worried about me? I’ll be alright by myself.”

“WIll you still be here?” He asked.

“Of course,” you scoffed, almost in disbelief that Dongwoon would ask you such a thing. “You think that I’d leave whilst you’re on the road or something, have you lost your mind?”

Dongwoon’s shoulders shrugged in reply to you, “it crossed my mind, I’m scared you’ll get bored of waiting for me or find someone who can be around.”

“It’s only a couple of weeks, I’ll just be missing you.”

“Really?” Dongwoon quizzed in surprise, feeling your hand rest over the top of his. “You promise that you’ll be here when I get back home Y/N?”

“Of course, I promise,” you chuckled, squeezing against Dongwoon’s hand, “just as long as you promise to miss me whilst you’re on tour.”

Dongwoon’s head nodded instantly back to you, “I know that I’ll be missing you every second whilst I’m gone.”

“And I’ll be missing you just as much too.”

Marry My Husband dream cast

{Note: Just imagine that they're the correct age, or that the makeup artist did their makeup magic.}

Maybe Han Hyojoo as Kang Jiwon. I do think she would execute a bigger transformation. (I like Park Minyoung but she's not tall and looks elfin no matter how they try to frump her up.)

Maybe Park Shinhye or Yoo Inna as Jung Sumin. I would feel more confident about Yoo Inna's acting but I think it would feel like the twist would be more impactful if Park Shinhye did her super naive-looking version of the cute girly character and then had the evil manipulative side. (Actually, I think Song Hayoon wins in terms of casting but I'm new to her so I wouldn't have known to pick her.)

Jung Woosung as Park Minhwan. He's just got big extravert energy, and I could see him playing a shameless cheater. Other actors could pull off this character well, too, but I think most would portray more of a stereotypical sneak while I could see Jung Woosung playing up the audacity.

Won Bin or Lee Jonghyuk as Yoo Jihyuk. Won Bin can pull off a certain introverted masculinity well suited to Jihyuk. Lee Jonghyuk is less chiseled but he looks like he could be related to my dream cast pick for Heeyeon.

Lee Hanee as Yoo Heeyeon. Like look at this pic: she almost has a knowing look like "I got you, bestie," and she looks like she would know how to identify knockoff jewelry. (The actress they chose does have the eyebrows and the youthful enthusiasm down, though.)

Lee Seunggi as Baek Eunho. He's got the cozy childhood friend sort of look. (Lee Gikwang is cute but why the heck does he keep bulging his eyes out? Was he filming for a cop thriller in between Marry My Husband shoots and he forgot he's supposed to be in a romance drama?)

Jin Seoyeon as Yang Juran. Someone who looks sharp enough to harbor suspicions of Manager Kim. Someone who looks like she still has the energy to raise kids. Someone who looks good in a short girlboss haircut! (Gong Minjung's Juran makes looks tired and beat down. I get that her husband is garbage, but the Juran in the webtoon doesn't seem like she's reached such a low point yet.)

Kwon Yul as Manager (?) Lee. At this point it's less dream cast and more me racking my brain for a guy with the right look that's done a decent job in a similar enough character before. But I had to name someone because I think they're trying to rewrite his character with a very different one, Lee Suk-joon, a much older, crabbier-looking guy who has no chemistry with Gong Minjung, and I can't let that slide. But anyway, honestly, Kwon Yul seems like a pretty darn good fit anyway.

PERSONALITY: Alex—also often endearingly called ‘Sanya’, ‘Sasha’ or ‘Shurik’ by his siblings—is chaotic by nature and good-natured despite his upbringing. He had to watch his older brothers bleed from labor and give one of his younger brothers stitches for wounds inflicted by those who were legally supposed to protect them. On late nights, he could hear faint sobbing and consoling whispers from his sisters’ room—the threat of being married off in exchange for an animal or some feed looming over their head. Of course he didn’t like living there—none of them did—but at least they had each other. Something neither their parents nor teachers or folks from the village could ever take from them.

Well, that is, until one of them did. 

Despite all the cruelty their parents put them through, their actions still shocked them. He must’ve been in his late teens when ten suddenly became nine. When Yulia was taken.

Then there were nine.

A new type of chaos was born inside of him; not the type he became so accustomed to but a fresh and more deranged kind. Thirsty for havoc. Because it was only when he was engulfed in complete and utter bedlam that he finally felt at peace. With constant parties inside their home—as well as outside whenever he managed to sneak out—Alexander often reveled in the daily chaos, allowing him to cheer his siblings up as often as he could. 

The month before their parents finally passed, the disarray, and their sleepless nights might’ve just been the most productive he’s ever been in his life. At the time, he didn’t know what caused their insomnia, but something inside him told him that it would be fatal. Lucky for all of them, it was. If the chaotic time of their parents’ misery was the most productive and alive he felt, the quiet months after his brother’s departure might’ve been the most draining. Alex constantly felt like something was missing, something he couldn’t properly name. Bouts of energy depleted as quickly as they came, and he tried to supplement the clutter in his head with parties and anything that would get adrenaline rushing through his veins. It wasn’t until the quiet boredom started to stress him out enough for him to accidentally set off a power he didn’t know he had. 

Pacing around in their parents’ old room as to not wake the brothers he shared a room with, Alexander unintentionally brought upon chaos by animating multiple dormant items in the room. Bedsheets folded in on themselves without any help and started to roll off the bed. A sock that fell behind the nightstand crawled across the floor. The lamp on the ceiling started swinging wildly despite the absence of cause. For a moment he wondered if the house might be haunted or if he might be dreaming. But when he tried to animate a shovel the very next day and watched it roll around on even ground, he knew it was his own doing. 

He knew right then and there that he wanted to learn more. And judging by the information his brother provided, he might just found the best place to do it. After settling everything and explaining the situation to his family, Alex finally made the decision to follow the path he was meant to take. He wanted to learn more. He had to still his hunger for chaos. He needed to go to Mount Phoenix. 

And so, he left.

Then there were seven.

PANTHEON:  Chinese CHILD OF:  Hundun POWERS: Alex feels energized and empowered in chaos—or more specifically, chaotic situations. Although he never noticed, but he can and already did instill distrust in others. He did, however, notice that he can animate inanimate objects for a short period of time.

I’m so glad they finally released the full cam (without reactions) for Round 2.

Group B and Group C were both phenomenal!! Here’s my interpretation of why I think C won (and it being justified):

When comparing the two groups, I think C was just overall solid. I’d argue that both teams were dancing in the pocket, but C’s members were more equal in terms of skill. C’s synhronization was also impressive. One of the judges (I don’t remember who but I think Gikwang?? or Kyuhyun??) mentioned how the ppl not in the center held their own with a strong performance too. I think B had a couple group moments where the gap in skills became apparent (some of the members hidden in the back).

Next is props & story. It seemed like some of the judges weren’t too big on props, but I just thought that was personal taste. For B, I think they could’ve gone without the story. Like what was the point of the book? And then the ending with Junseo waking back up/ coming back alive?? also could’ve gone without it. I think if they were going the story route, the story should’ve been clearer. Were they students taking a break from studying and wanting some excitement? Were they just rebellious teens? Was it a sleepover? Did they go to sleep or die at the end? Tbh, I think this song & the idea of 1 person “surviving” at the end would’ve been better executed if the plot was about a heist. That or just go no story at all.

Clothes honestly play a factor, granted I don’t think the contestants have much input. C’s clothes were very uniform, streamlined, and simple. It was very easy to appreciate their dance lines & the sync. B’s clothes, while literally school uniforms, had more variety. The outfits were also baggy, which I don’t know how to explain, but that exposed more when it came to the varying skills in hip hop choreo.

Finally, keep in mind that the scores were really close AND varied a lot. It wasn’t that every judge had B & C as either 1st or 2nd. Two of the judges (Moonbyul & Gikwang) gave D a higher score than B. The point difference between B & D was literally 1. This all just goes to show how impressive ALL of the performances were. It was seriously that tight.

highlight - not the end

first of all, this song makes me cry every single time, point blank. it is so beautiful, and i love how the music video encapsulates the soundscape of the song perfectly, and visualizes it accordingly. this is one of my favorite kpop songs of all time, and i think the message of it goes hand in hand with the visual of the video, but it is just so well executed. the colors, the scenery, the sets. this sort of liminal feeling it has that signifies being stuck somewhere, waiting for someone; the resilience of loving and of not giving up, and the patience of devotion. something that seems hopeless evoking the opposite, evoking hope. the imagery of blooming flowers, of traces of scent lingering in the air, the first breeze bringing you back to me.

this was a spring release and their comeback after their enlistment and losing another member, and it is so beautifully done and evocative of everything they needed to telegraph back then: the promise that this is not over, the group is not over, and the promise they made over and over again, resurfacing. i'm still here, it's not the end.

the still really just... breaks my fucking back, man. this entire music video feels like that singular word in the titular phrase. still. like the light, like the spring breeze that warmly wraps around me. awaken your cold heart and come back to me, i'm still here.

and, of course, thank you lee gikwang for the perhaps most beautiful bridge in any kpop song ever:

to me / and to this place / you are blowing over / you’re blowing over right now to me / when the warm breeze passes through me / you are walking over to me / you’re blowing over to me again.

2. beast - 12:30

time to take off the training wheels, we are moving into undisputable masterpiece territory. first of all, this is maybe the greatest kpop song ever, and absolutely the best idol ballad, and i will not hear a word otherwise. this song is just marvelously written, 3:53 minutes of perfection, vocally, melodically, production wise. and that music video, oh my god. i actually wrote up something about it before, but i think i deleted it? anyways, i love this music video so much.

starring? well, none other than beast's very own yoon doojoon, of course! the leader of the group, no less! many idol actors have come, many idol actors have gone, but few of them are as good as doojoon. he is such a great romantic lead and you can sense those sensibilities in his performance in this mv.

if you watch the video, you will notice that the clock at the beginning (actually, all the clocks) stop just shy of 12:30, implying that the titular 12:30 - the moment when they are so far apart in their relationship, literally diametrically opposed, they cannot get back together - has not yet arrived. instead, you find a couple half frozen, the woman on the bed, and the man still moving around freely but sitting on the floor. the clock rewinds thirty minutes and we see a happy relationship, steadily moving forward. until the clock strikes 12:15 and everything goes downhill; they fight, they hurt each other, and just as doojoon pushes her onto the bed, time stops.

this is greatly intersected by shots of various members of the group singing. doojoon himself has like minus three lines in this song (i have truly endless beef with cube entertainment because of this, lol) but it makes his appearances in the video, outside of the part he is playing, soooooo impactful. notice how they all only come together after doojoon sings in the second verse. a masterclass in blocking, etc. and, once more, his bridge lines are too good to not share them here: i'm letting you go right now, i'm letting you go and everything has stopped.

we are back at where the music video started. he takes her hand, and stops moving altogether with her, and behind the two, the clock hand moves to 12:30. time has stopped, and they are unmoving.

absolute insane. so fucking good. i love everything that is implied here, too much to get into, but the fact that they are in this space between 12:27-12:30 where time doesn't seem to move, where it freezes and he is grappling with the loss, the guilt, the hurt, and the impossible. godddd, just so good.

3. shinee - good evening

good evening, as i have said many times before, is a study in grief. that, of course, does not only mean the song but also the video. a technicolor display of loss that is so haunting every frame, the feeling that there is something lingering just outside of your periphery that you cannot see, cannot touch, and still reach for, and the inexplicable link between people who are grieving and are loving each other in the midst of that cataclysmic loss.

so many intentional choices in this music video. the television screens and cameras recording them in a greenhouse, a building made completely out of glass walls, in a room with a broken piano (that kibum destroys), a bed that minho lies in, a fridge that has been taped shut. the room with the circular table and the ring of light suspended from above, in blue and dark green. the fox, of course.

the rain. the water. all of them beneath the plastic. the fifth shadow in the well. kibum turning around to look over his shoulder as if there is someone else behind them when they are in the forest, finally out of the green house, finally free. watching this music video is a transcendental experience. i remember that, when i watched it for the first time, everything was still so raw, and the tears were coming before i could even comprehend a single thing.

4. growing pains - d&e

it’s giving eternal sunshine of the spotless mind ten years before miss ariana grande ever got her hands on it, and it’s gay as all hell despite the fact that there’s a girl and a ring. donghae is too pretty to look at directly, as has always been his wont, so thank god he's in this. on top of it all, it is a ballad with choreography and coats, which is my favorite kpop genre ever (see 12:30). some tasteful black and white, and just one of the finest kpop tracks ever written. i don’t care much for suju, but donghae & eunhyuk are the one thing they got right, and thank god these two decided to shack up with each other forever (it doesn’t hurt that donghae is a very good songwriter).

they both end up at the same memory erasure office, and i'd like to think they meet each other after and get their happy ending. eat your heart out, ariana grande!

i might add more! but this is just four, and already so much. honorable mention: exo - monster (the ogs omg...), seventeen - home;run (seventeen, i think, are best when they operate like their own musical cast), tvxq - the chance of love (sexy, sleek, impeccably danced, and a little gay. what is not to love!), got7 - never ever (flight log trilogy finale!!! youngjae and jinyoung's cosmic connection!)

Let me tell you the story of one of our unfortunate residents who seems to be an EMERGENCY SURGEON on the island. Fate has assigned this individual guidance from THE MAGICIAN card. But they needn’t worry, their secrets are safe with me.

Hesitantly, Jun stepped towards the deck of cards sitting portentously in front of him. He normally didn't believe in stuff like that, since his occupation relied on rationality and science. But something, some strange power or curiousity pulled him towards it and he gently tugged down the card on top of deck. Jun took a look at the card, that was upside down. A man stood in the center, one arm stretched towards the sky, while the other arm pointed to earth. The name of the card read 'The Magician' at the bottom.

Jun had accumulated medical knowledge and social abilities to accomplish his goal to help as many patients as possible and become useful to human community. His career was going well, he was liked by colleagues and patients alike. There was nothing that could keeping him from being a good doctor, but himself. Despite having all ressources as the card suggested, he was hesitant and anxious. He was holding back, felt restless and incapable of fulfilling the tasks he obviously held. Jun wasn't doing an office job, he was responsible for human lives.

THE CARD FLUTTERS TO YOUR FEET. WHO WERE YOU BEFORE THIS STORY BEGAN?

As the card fluttered to the ground, Jun stared at the motive. Even after escaping to this island, trying to get at peace with his mind, the scenes recalled like an endless movie. As emergency surgeon he was used to be confronted with stressful situations. So far he had been able to overcome every single one of them. And yet there were always moments that could throw off even seasoned experts.

With a huge traffic crash, several fatally injured patients had been brought in. And no matter how many ressources were utilizied, people died in front of his eyes. There was nothing they could have done for them and yet, Jun felt guilty and heartbroken. So to get his mind off those happenings, he decided to help out at a local hospital and work as temporary physician which brought him to this island.

When You Lay Down Between His Legs ~ Highlight Reaction

Doojoon:

Suspicious eyes watched over you as Doojoon caught you shuffling out of the corner of his eye once again. “Where are you heading to?” He suddenly asked.

An innocent smile formed on your face as you met Doojoon’s eyes, “I was just looking at that gap I can see between your legs, it looks pretty me sized.”

Doojoon nodded as he looked between the gap and you, “and I’m guessing you’re trying to move there without me noticing what you’re doing, aren’t you?”

“How?” You grumbled, “how do you always manage to work me out like this?”

“You weren’t exactly being subtle there Y/N.”

With that, Doojoon wrapped his arms around you and pulled you tightly in between his legs. “I thought if I moved slowly you wouldn’t notice.”

“Nice try,” Doojoon sympathised, pressing a kiss against your shoulder, “but you’re going to have to do better than that.”

“Oh well, at least I’m finally where I want to be Joon.”

“Exactly, and where I want you too.”

 Yoseob:

A chuckle came from you as Yoseob’s legs squeezed even tighter against your frame either side of you. “You said you were cold, so I’m just warming you up.”

You could barely chuckle as your hands tapped against his legs, “I said that I was cold, I didn’t say that I wanted you to squeeze the life out of me though.”

A shrug of the shoulders came from Yoseob as you looked back at him, “unfortunately that’s what you get for deciding that you want to lay down in between my legs.”

“You’re so mean to me,” you pouted, “what did I ever do to you to deserve this?”

“You made me move my legs when I was comfy.”

A roll of the eyes followed from you as Yoseob dramatically sighed, “you’d barely been sat down for five minutes, there’s no way that you were cosy.”

“I was, because I was warm,” he retorted, “so stop pouting at me unless you want me to move and let you keep yourself warm.”

“Sometimes I wonder what it is that I ever saw in you.”

“My nice warm legs, that’s what.”

Your eyes rolled at Yoseob’s confident reply, hearing his snigger follow. “If you think your legs were the reason I fell for you, you’re mistaken.”

“Of course,” Yoseob agreed, “because you fell instead for my handsome smile and my beautiful eyes, didn’t you?”

“You can be so full of yourself sometimes, you know?”

“But that’s just why you love me.”

Gikwang:

Your smile turned up as you felt a gentle tug against your hair, knowing exactly what Gikwang was doing. “Sorry,” he whispered, knowing what he had done.

Your head shook in reply to him as you placed your hands against his legs. “You’re alright, it didn’t hurt,” you assured him, not wanting him to worry.

Gikwang continued to twirl your hair around in his finger, watching you with concerned eyes. “Are you sure?” Gikwang pushed, immediately beginning to worry.

“I’m fine,” you chuckled, “it can’t hurt anyway when I’m laying right here.”

“My legs don’t stop things hurting Y/N.”

Your head carried on shaking in Gikwang’s direction, “laying here makes me feel comfortable so that absolutely nothing can hurt me.”

“Your logic gives me a headache sometimes,” Gikwang couldn’t help but retort, looking down at you with his eyes narrowing.

“Just keep playing with my hair and it’ll all make sense.”

“I reckon I can keep doing that.”

Dongwoon:

You threw yourself down with a huff as you noticed the gap in Dongwoon’s legs, finally relaxing. “I thought at one point you weren’t coming home tonight.”

Dongwoon’s hands rested through your hair as you leant back, “I was convinced at one point that I wasn’t going to be coming home tonight either.”

A chuckle escaped from him as he listened to you, watching you yawn as you spoke. “I hope you don’t plan on falling asleep on me, we can’t sleep on the sofa.”

“I’m not moving,” you quickly warned him, “you’ll have to move me you know.”

“If I need to carry you to bed, then I will.”

Your head nodded, happily agreeing to let Dongwoon carry you. “Don’t move just yet, I’m comfy here and after the day I’ve had, this is what I need.”

“We don’t have to go anywhere just yet,” Dongwoon assured you, “but you know we can’t spend all night on the sofa.”

“I reckon we could, I can lay between your legs here too.”

“Trust me Y/N, you’ll regret it.”
