Swoony Sapphic Romance Recs
Ever find f/f lukewarm? (It’s not you, it’s an industrial complex.) My intention here is to collect canonical sapphic rep that avoids the flat “girl meets girl” trope, where two women with doubtful chemistry are made to get together simply because they exist in the same narrative. I want media that will make me feverishly ship characters and spend at least 24 hours reeling from the brainrot in the aftermath. I don’t want to like a pairing just because they’re sapphic rep, I want it to be good and unforgettable. These lists are a wild jumble of genres, loosely organised (mostly novels, but I clarify when they aren’t) and are in no particular order! I left out author names to avoid clutter. This is a living post and I will keep updating—please reblog or comment with your own recs if you wish!
⭐️: classics among sapphic media and/or criminally underrated essentials
Top tier best wlw romances: fluttery, swoony and angsty
iqn four, very loose categories
CONTEMPORARY
How You Get the Girl
One Last Stop ⭐️
Kiss Her Once for Me
Iris Kelly Doesn’t Date
Love & Other Disasters
The Fiancée Farce
XO, Kitty (show)
HISTORICAL
The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo ⭐️
Last Night at the Telegraph Club ⭐️
Annie on My Mind ⭐️
Don’t Want You Like a Best Friend
Gwen and Art Are Not in Love
SCI-FI/FANTASY
Arcane (animated show) ⭐️
The Midnight Lie ⭐️
A Dark and Drowning Tide
Warrior Nun (show)
Lucy Undying
Youngblood (faced backlash for problematic content—check reviews before reading/supporting. Included here because sapphic romance itself is undeniably excellent.)
GRAPHIC NOVELS
Tamen de Gushi ⭐️
The Guy She Was Interested in Wasn’t a Guy at All ⭐️
The Princess and the Grilled Cheese Sandwich
Sunset Phoenix (webcomic)
Solid romance but less angsty:
She Drives Me Crazy
Magan & Danai (webcomic)
Bloom Into You* (ani/manga)
Forget Me Not
I Kissed Shara Wheeler
Run Away With Me, Girl (manga)
These Witches Don’t Burn
If You’ll Have Me (graphic novel)
Bonus: SFF with excellent sapphic characters (not romance focused)
Gideon the Ninth ⭐️ (this is its own genre and absolutely gutting despite not being heavy handed on the romance, very emotional and will make you want to put a butch in a pillow fort)
Shera and the Princesses of Power* (animated show) ⭐️
A Lady’s Guide to Petticoats and Pirates* (graphic novel)
On a Sunbeam (graphic novel)
Bonus: Literary fiction (little focus on romance but packs a gut-wrenching punch)
Blue Sisters
Our Dreams at Dusk ⭐️ (manga)
Even Though We’re Adults (manga)
Wandering Son ⭐️ (ani/manga)
The Impossible Love Life of Amanda Dean
*sort of girl meets girl but worth plowing through for various reasons, usually their importance to sapphic media or LGBTQ+ discourse in the plot (might get taken off the list with time as I add better options!)

70-Seas
This was a fantasy adventure webcomic created by Nick Daniel (AKA P5ych). Taking place in a world where different lands and islands move across the endless seas, the world of Lagend is odd. Nuns are mad scientists, Vikings have taken up legal forms of commerce, a barbarian is hunting for wizards to smash, and ninjas are offering their services as hired men, despite many not knowing what a ninja is. For the main story, we focus on three characters (Lewk: The false prophet, Serra: the crass captain/navigator, and Nikol: the bratty, yet disciplined ninja child) who explore the world as licensed privateers, or pirates as they call themselves occasionally, searching for fortune and fame on a stolen ship. It won't be easy as they will encounter many oppositions like holy knights, a persistent demon, cons and scams, capitalism, and their own shortcomings and many more that exist in this whimsical world. 70-Seas is a vast comic filled with all kinds of strange characters and stories that can be explored in the main story and in the multiple side stories provided. With a cast of different characters this big, you won't find yourself too bored reading it.
This could either be interesting or "HEY, WACKY FANTASY SETTING WITH ANACHRONISTIC NONSENSE" like Deegan. I may give it a shot.

Unconvent
Tumblr media
Unconvent is a webcomic about Sister Salome, a young lesbian in 18th-century Brazil, who is sent to a convent to have her “ungodly ways” corrected. This goes about as well as one might expect, as she quickly falls for Sister Augusta, an attractive butch pirate-turned-novice.
Tumblr media
Apart from the main characters, there are multiple wlw nuns in the story, one of whom is nonbinary. Unconvent has just come back from hiatus, and is in the middle of its second chapter out of five. I’m looking forward to seeing where it goes!
Tumblr media
The author, Eszter NT, describes herself as “an ambitious and grumpy old lesbian.” E lives with eir partner, Kath (below right, who has their own webcomic, which I have not yet read) in Denmark. Check out Eszter’s website, twitter, and instagram, and find Unconvent extras here.

You’ve met me, now meet the OC’s! I write a sapphic, gothic scifi romance that comes out monthly on Webtoons and Patreon (free on there, by the way)- allow me to introduce the leads!
Meet our hero Novice Immaculata, or Nick because she’s such a saint. She lives on Myrrh, formally Planet NE 3023, and is a part of a convent there training to be a formal Sister at the institution. She is all things good, all things holy- but does this saint have a terrible secret?? And by terrible secret do we mean riddled with guilt for no reason???
Meet also our antihero, Captain Skinny! Renown pirate and wanted conspirator. She has a wolfish grin and a storied past, but are all these stories true?? What happens when her devilish luck sweeps up unsuspecting, very pretty nuns in its gravity?
A natural CW for religious themes and horror, but at the core of this series is a story about self love, chosen family, and a love burning a few worlds for.

An honorary birthday piece! I call this one Solar Return and was originally a Patreon exclusive.
I’d love for this to be an art share thing, I don’t know if that would work on Tumblr? I also posted it on Bluesky.
Either way, I would love to your works that bring you joy!

Title release for my upcoming webcomic, Pirate Nun, being released this summer.
It’s a gothic scifi love story about finding love in hard to reach places, and what to do when you find it ✨
If you are a practicing Christian who doesn’t take criticism well, I highly recommend you skip this one. This is your only and final warning.
For everyone else, I hope you enjoy this wild ride of self discovery, exploration on love and theology, and feel refueled by it. I’ve been writing this for three (four?) years and am equally thrilled and terrified by sharing it. I humbly hope it resonates with you.
