I think the song choices are pretty self explanatory, so I'm not gonna write a big long song-by-song breakdown this time. I do have some notes on the choice of cover artwork and the pov of this playlist though.

If it isn't apparent by now, Paul isn't my fave character in Dune canon – Feyd-Rautha is. So why am I making a playlist dedicated to a character I don't even love?

In my years of consuming and creating art for my fandoms, I don't think I've ever come across a morally grey character that's half as complex and intriguing as Paul. Sure, I'm familiar with corruption arcs and self-styled messianic figures (Light Yagami from Death Note comes to mind). I've written for and continue to love characters who underwent cataclysmic deaths and resurrections, and came back wrong (see: Jason Todd from DC/Batman). And sure, Paul's character arc can similarly be boiled down to these familiar story beats of resurrection and corruption, but he's no angel at the start of his journey. He's aware of the trajectory of his story in ways these other characters aren't by virtue of being a seer of prescient visions. To walk clear-sightedly into his own ruination is such a fascinating thing to me.

Those familiar with the Major Arcana suit of the tarot cards will know the significance of The Fool: he is at the start of his journey, appearing to walk leftwards off a cliff with an optimistic smile because he's as yet unburdened by higher knowledge of lurking dangers. Like The Fool, I have Paul facing leftwards on this cover (flipped horizontally from the original Dune 2021 IMAX poster), because he too is embarking on a transformative journey when he enters the Arrakis deserts. The difference is, of course, that he becomes aware of his terrible destiny as a messianic figurehead for a holy war as soon as he sets off for this journey. And so it isn't with carefree optimism but the knowledge of his ruin hanging heavily on his shoulders that he takes his first steps into the desert.

The other major difference between the playlist cover and the Fool's tarot card design is how much smaller Paul's figure is in the composition of the whole image. The desert background easily dwarves his figure, which is something I've always loved about the IMAX poster. Despite all his visions of futures where he ascends to the mantle of a messianic leader, he is still just, at this moment in the canon timeline, a child. Small, and all alone in his journey. Not even his mother Lady Jessica would come to understand the weight of the transformation he will undergo.

Many of the songs on this playlist were ones that didn't make the cut for my general Dune playlist. But as I went along I realised it's grown into a love letter for Paul's character from the perspective of a sympathetic reader. "Found Heaven" and "Shine On You Crazy Diamond" only make sense as monologues addressed to Paul.

Rewatching Dune Part I really brought it home for me just how much of a child Paul still is when he enters the Fremen's deserts. He is frightened out of his mind by the knowledge that he will come to be the figurehead for whom millions will wage a holy war to the devastation of entire planets and deaths of billions, and it's a burden for him to bear alone. Did anyone ever stop to tell him not to fear?

If I'm not mistaken, "Shine On You Crazy Diamond" was written for Pink Floyd's own Syd Barrett, a genius lyricist whose declining mental health forced him to quit the scene too soon. Obvious parallels to Paul's madness aside, I like the metaphor this adds to Paul as not only a prophet but a painter / artist – which he is to an extent. He is an architect shaping the world into a future only he sees. The tragedy is of course that visionary artists often go where their lovers can't follow.

i have two takes on utmv which are called "legacy" and "angel". legacy is sans-centric, angel is just me reassigning sanses as other utdr characters that make more sense to me and generally reimagining stuff. i do adore legacy and similar interpretations but i also find studying the mischaracterization of it all really fun...!! it's really interesting to me to try and puzzle out what would have to happen in the bounds of canon to end up with an AT like dusttale for an example ..! i don't find the sans-centrism "inferior" by any means, im just havin my fun :o] i wanted to clear that up before anyone got the wrong idea ;;

the love and compassion and silliness at the heart of undertale is very important to me so all of my takes on utmv stuff are like. really lighthearted. i don't avoid delving into the terrors (my favorites Are the Bad Snasnes™ so like,) but the way i portray these freaks when compared to canon is interesting. 13. favorite antagonist team

This one is hard because I enjoy a lot of them for different reasons. Like I love that Team Rocket is just straight up the mob, they are definitely a legitimate Threat, but then like I also love Team Skull because they are TEAM SKULL.

But for a favorite...well, Team Aqua and Team Magma are tied. I enjoy the fact that they are both just so dumb??? They want to improve the world for Pokemon but they somehow never took an earth science course (even though Maxie ABSOLUTELY has) and thus don't know that expanding the land or the ocean has Serious Consequences for everyone. Like I enjoy that the ideas/goal aren't fundamentally evil, but they are so misguided that they fall to doing evil things to accomplish their goals. And they are just...so, so stupid, I love them.

BUT to avoid a tie, I'll say my fave is Team Magma, solely because, going by the ORAS redesigns, I love that these idiots wear sweaters in a volcano.

16. least favorite shiny pokemon

Honestly I have SO MANY. I love a lot of shinies but just as many are...so bad. But the reason why this one is hard isn't because of like, degree of ugliness of colors as much as it is that my least favorite shinies are the most disappointing ones. With that in mind, my least favorite shiny is Leafeon, because we could have had AUTUMN COLORED LEAFEON and instead we got Slightly Darker Leafeon.

I am gonna give a couple runner-ups. Kecleon, because Pokemon Mystery Dungeon had the Kecleon Brothers and I think the shiny should have been purple and green like the brother instead of slightly different yellow markings and blue stripe instead of red.

And my other runner-up, Dragonite, and this one IS because I dislike the colors because we go from lovely pink and gold to very questionable purple and green. And purple and green is a color combo I do enjoy together, but...not these shades.

21. favorite legendary/mythical pokemon

I am bullied, BULLIED I SAY. Now I AM going to cheat and list a legendary and mythical Pokemon because they are two separate categories.

So, legendary. This one is very hard because I love two legendary Pokemon very much, but I am going to go with Suicune. Aside from a whole lotta love for the Johto games fueling this choice, I also adore Suicune's design? The color palette is one I enjoy, I like the ribbons and the mane, I am heavily biased towards water types, and as a kid I definitely wanted to ride on it like a horse. It also plays an important role in the fourth Pokemon movie, which is one I remember very fondly.

The runner-up here, if anyone cares to know, is Articuno, the OG Kanto version. Love me an ice birb and that TAIL.

And Mythical is even harder because I have many emotions about many of them and I love so many. Manaphy especially has a place in my heart because of how desperately I wanted one and how IMPOSSIBLE it was for me until they were rereleased, I even tried the Pokemon Ranger thing and it didn't work lol.

But one of my two fave mythic Pokemon is Jirachi. I cant really explain why; is it the zero thoughts looking face? The eye on the stomach, because I love me some eyes where they don't belong? Or is it the wish-granting mechanic? Who knows, certainly not me.

Also I am calling this one a TIE because I ADORE Celebi. Teeny bug with the power of time, what will it do. Yes I know Celebi is Psychic/Grass but it is bug in my heart. I love the design and the colors, grass Pokemon being another weakness, but once again I also have built emotions based on other Pokemon media. The fourth Pokemon movie is Celebi-centric and amazing, ESPECIALLY THE HEARTBREAK OF THAT SCENE, but in Pokemon Mystery Dungeon Explorers of Time, Darkness, and Sky, she was also a very important character.

Probably the weight of your actions, but I swear it's only angsty bc the canon of Gwen's universe in Spiderverse is angsty! Author is not responsible!

Can I cheat and do a fic I haven't written yet? Because the ending of the Wind and Wild gender series is going to be so sweet it may cause cavities. Other than that, probably Eudemonia, cause it's just pure fankids fluff.

No, I think half my fics are probably too niche to attract bad faith types.

I'm baby.

I rotated the idea of Owl House x LU in my brain for a while but never wrote it, and now that I haven't, I probably never will.

Lol yeah someone uploaded an incredibly similar fic to in how many grey hours a few hours after I did, but nothing ever came of it. It wasn't Stolen stolen so I don't really care.

The Lumity fankids are a brainchild of myself, @heleirylis and our friend maisa even if the fics on my profile for it aren't actually co-written. Also me and leir still need to do a joint fic for one of our fandoms (it WILL happen soon)

Lumity or Kuromaya now I've gotten back into the latter. I could write essays about both. I have in the case of Lumity

15. What's the WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?

Can I say all of them? LOL er jokes aside I could answer this question with my timeloop fic where Time dies in front of Twilight and Twi uses the ocarina to try to save him over and over, but I haven't even started that properly, and I still reserve the right to say I WILL finish it. It's just a way more complicated fic than anything else I've ever written and requires much more brainpower than I fear I currently have. I guess the WIP that is actually never getting finished is my Fluffbruary 2023 collection. RIP.

Dialogue and writing characters in character.

Anything other than those two things. But particularly writing descriptions.

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?

A couple of my fave blorbos are bilingual so I do it occasionally. But my brother is the one with a languages degree, not me, so I honestly try and avoid it.

Zelda, back when I was 11. Which makes me happy that I'm still writing for it now.

20. Favourite fic you've ever written?

It's a bit hard to choose but I really love I've Built My Life Around You. I was attempting to capture a very specific feeling and I think I did it. Plus my writing is way too good in that fic, to the point where whenever I reread it I forget I'm the one who wrote it. And I reread it a lot cause it's my niche I want to read, which is why it probably qualifies as my fave.

The *Protect Yusuf al-Kaysani at all costs* train is pulling into the station. Get ready and buckle up.

 I want to talk about the cringe/harmful/racist things I’ve been seeing about Joe lately. Let’s do a comparison, shall we? 

There are two male characters that some people have been talking about lately. One is a man who is very passionate, cares for his family, kills a man who killed his husband, but is overall grounded in love. The other man is a Sad Boi™ who has been though trauma and grief, and then sells out his entire family because he is ready to find a way to die.

One of these men, the fandom has called unforgiving, angry, and a barbarian. The other man has had excuses made for him, people are calling for empathy and saying that his actions were only reasonable due to the trauma that he endured. 

Can you guess which reaction is for which man? Can you guess which man is white?

Let me say here that I do not think that most of the people who are saying these things are being purposefully harmful. In much the same way that I do not think that Booker apologists are racist on purpose, (views I share on Booker here, here, and here).

However! I do think that these people are operating from a specific world view. White centric narratives have inundated much of the world (and therefore fandom) for a long ass time. One of the repercussions of that is an “inherently good” framework/worldview. The framework, albeit very simplified, is as follows. 

White people are inherently good and any mistakes that they make are isolated incidents that should not be held as “who they truly are.” People who aren’t white, (and more so for Black and Brown men), are criminal, angry, or savage. Their good actions are isolated incidents and are always out shadowed by their inherently negative natures. It’s only a matter of time before they “show their true colors.” 

So when you paint Joe with a brush, even a small one, that enlarges his passionate reactions into ANGRY ones, and when you enlarge his killing of  Keane into a CENTRAL personality trait, you are perpetuating these ideas. And it’s clear from the movie that Joe is the farthest thing from the racist/Islamophobic caricature fandom is starting to treat him as. 

Another aspect that I am starting to see come forward is people pairing Nicky with other characters...sans Joe. I was talking in the notes of a post when someone said “Like do they Joe isn’t good enough for Nicky?” 

And I finally saw in text what I had been feeling. Everyone has the right to ship whoever, whatever they like. Of course they can.

For me though, seeing people push Joe to the side in this way felt so hurtful because this is such a great canon couple. Like finally we got some GOOD GAY representation. That’s so rare?!? Tell me the fandom deets on Macgyver, pretty please?

the first character i ever fell in love with: Jack Dalton - 100% - From the moment I first met him I was like: sassy ex Delta Force who loves everyone too much? MINE!

a character that i used to love/like, but now do not: Unpopular answer: Mac honestly. I love Mac. I love him a lot. I understand that he’s been through some shit. But some of his motivations in the last few seasons (fair warning: I’m not totally caught up on the show - this is one of the main reasons why I stopped watching) haven’t made a lot of sense to me. And the stuff with Nasha really made me mad... And I think if they would have given us the voice overs in S3 we would have been able to see more of his motivation and gotten into his head why he was doing/saying some of the things he was doing it would have helped. And from what I’ve seen... I don’t like who he is in a relationship with Desi (I don’t hate MacDesi, but I hate what they’ve done with it in the show from what I’ve seen)... so I just... I don’t know I feel like he’s not the same character from S1-2... and that’s my Mac honestly.

a ship that i used to love/like, but now do not: I actually think I still love all of my ships from this show... there’s no ship that I don’t like anymore... Huh. But I don’t tend to give up on ships... I don’t know if I’ve ever changed my opinion drastically on a ship in a fandom like that ever.

my ultimate favourite character™: Jack Dalton again... I love him too much. He’s got the greatest lines... he’s charming and witty and loves all of his little found family so much it hurts.

prettiest character: I honestly have to say I think this is a tie between Riley and Mac. I have a bigger crush on Riley... but GAH they’re both so pretty. Like... ridiculously pretty.

my most hated character: James. He’s the worst. I even wrote an entire fic on the premise of Jack getting to punch him in the face. There was some other plot... but I honestly engineered the whole plot and everything around Jack getting to punch James in the face at the end. Worth it.

my OTP: MacDalton - I’m on this ship until it hits an iceberg and sinks. I love them so much. You go kaboom, I go kaboom?! Epic ship material. Coming back for another FUCKING TOUR IN AFGHANISTAN FOR MAC?! Epic ship material.

my NOTP: MacDesi (SORRY! This is not invalidating this ship for ANYONE ELSE - this is a personal opinion and I support you shipping them 100%) - again, fair warning that I’m not caught up on the series... but from everything I’ve seen... Desi is a very abusive SO. I think they had potential, but I really don’t like what they’ve done with it on the show. As for shipping outside of canon... I personally never saw the romantic connection based on their interactions before they got together. Very-Desi centric... the pink dress scene drove me crazy because I didn’t like the idea of Desi trying to win Mac over by doing something like that. Up to that point Desi struck me as the kind of woman to be herself and just wait for a man to make a move on her, or to just be bold and make a move on him. But strutting around in a revealing little dress and playing mating games - I was sad they took her character to that place... so I never really shipped them.

favourite episode: Mac + Jack (S2E12) - as a MacDalton shipped I love this for obvious reasons... but there’s just so much in this episode... I loved seeing Jack and Mac in the army... the way they first met and totally hated each other at first... fantastic. This episode also has my favourite line of all time... when Mac’s trying to defuse the bomb under the hummer... and Jack’s bothering him... Mac: Well, you know what, there is a quicker way to do this. Jack: Really? Mac: Yeah, it involves a loud boom and a bunch of shrapnel in your body. Close second place: Skull + Electromagnet (S2E5) - Harper Hayes is so awesome and badass. I love her a lot.

saddest death: Jill Morgan. I loved her so much. I remember sitting down to watch the S3 premiere and saying: As long as they don’t kill Jill, they really can’t let me down...

favourite season: 2 - I loved Cage. I loved all the dynamics. My favourite episodes are in this season. It’s solid from start to finish. I love this whole season.

least favourite season: I will say 3... because I didn’t watch enough of S4 to name it. But S3 really let me down. I hated the way things just faded away with Nasha. I wish they’d had a better end to that. I hated that we lost the voice overs, especially because some of the stuff Mac was doing and saying was obviously because he was messed up over what happened with Jill and Murdoc and all that, and if we’d had voice overs we could have understood what he was feeling. The same way we did in S1 when all the stuff with Nikki was going on. Jack left. Gross. And he left Mac behind with just that handshake. Before Jack left I hated the way he was treated - they made him into the comedic relief buffoon... and there were several episodes where Mac was making Jack the butt of jokes. Desi showed up and it was pretty obvious when she came on the scene that they were introducing her as a new love interest for Mac. I have 0 tolerance for female characters being introduced solely as a love interest - cause: gross. I hated the Riley/Billy breakup. I hated that they killed Jill.  I hated that Charlie died the way he did, and then that night when they got together for beers Mac was smiling and hitting on Desi And let’s not forget that DESI got a phone call from Jack when Charlie died... but Mac didn’t. WHY?! You really think Jack would find out that Charlie died the way he did and not immediately call his boy!? Bullshit Sorry for the rant... but there were a lot of things in this season I didn’t care for.

character that everyone else in the fandom loves, but i hate: I guess Desi... though I wouldn’t say everyone else loves her. I just... there was so much potential with Desi as a character. Strong asian-American woman who’s the badass strong arm of their team... and they made her a love interest and made her kind of an abusive SO... and I just didn’t care for that. I think her and Mac as characters were both treated badly as a result. In conclusion: I really wanted to like her... I even have a huge crush on her... but I still just... don’t.

my ‘you’re piece of trash, but you’re still a fave’ fave: I guess Murdoc?... Cause I love Murdoc a lot. And I was sad that they ruined the dynamic between him and Mac when he killed Jill. Killing Jill made it so their dynamic can never be the same. Mac didn’t like Murdoc before, but now he hates him on a personal level and will never forgive him.

my ‘beautiful cinnamon roll who deserves better than this’ fave: Riley - she deserved for Ellwood to stick around. She deserved for Jack to stick around. She deserved for Billy to STICK AROUND. And she deserves to have Mac treat her his found sister and not try to get into her pants the way he seems to every other woman he’s EVER around. (AGAIN: I am not in any way saying MacRiley isn’t a valid ship. I can see the potential - ship to your heart’s content). All this talk of love triangles upsets me... I think they’ve waited too long to pull the trigger on MacRiley... because they’ve always very much had sibling vibes to me.

my ‘this ship is wrong, nasty, and makes me want to cleanse my soul, but i still love it’ ship: I had originally written that I didn’t have one, but I TOTALLY DO!!! Jack/Harper Hayes!!! I have this series of fics where she’s basically his Murdoc and is totally stalking him and stuff... and I just... everything I’ve written around their sexual tension is very non-con... but I love them a lot and I DON’T KNOW WHY.

my ‘they’re kind of cute, and i lowkey ship them, but i’m not too invested’ ship: Mac/Jill - I kinda love them. I love the idea of them being nerds together. I think they would be adorable. Jill is into the spy life but not a field agent so there wouldn’t be as much stress for Mac about losing his girl to the life... etc... So I love them. I think they could have been happy together. And seeing Mac have a happy little home with someone he can still talk about spy stuff with I think would have been great. And yet as much as I love them I just still sit back and dream about it, but I haven’t written much for them. Thank you for the ASK!!! I love doing these!

fave margaret-centric MASH episode, fave play, fave hutch fit

favorite margaret-centric episode is very much the nurses, i think this was one of the first episodes of mash where i really started liking margaret as a character, bc in the first couple seasons to me she was an enjoyable antagonist, but not always much of a character. i remember sobbing at the end of the nurses, and i really do appreciate that relatable moment we as an audience get to have with margaret feeling left out, and using those defense mechanisms to hide her true feelings. i always revisit this when i need a good cry or to remind myself of my wife margaret

favorite play of the moment is the shadow box by michael cristofer, it's very "of the 70s," but i find that sort of writing and the topics discussed to be such a fascinating little time capsule, and i really enjoy the complexity of the different characters in the show, and how they navigate such serious topics through the 'shadow box' format. some of my all-time favorite plays are also who's afraid of virginia woolf? by edward albee, harvey by mary chase, and sentimentally, the importance of being earnest by oscar wilde

i have so, so many favorite hutch fits (all of them?) but i think two of THE quintessential style moments are these:

the apple shaped glasses! the bedazzled pink overalls with the sheer shirt! the sleek black jumpsuit and glasses! so 70s, so campy, such style inspo! (honorable mention to the guitar shirt he wears with flares, the little music freak he is)

Who are your top 5 favorite BNHA characters and Steven Universe characters and why are they your faves? And who are your top 5 least favorite??

(OOF, that's a lot of writing lol. Just for the sake of brevity, I'll do my top 3 from each show and why I like them 😅)

BNHA

Tomura! I like his design, his Japanese VA is phenomenal, and I think Hori's done a good job of showing HOW he became the way he is without excusing his actions. He was in an abusive household and was then groomed to be AfO's successor, but he did NOT "literally do nothing wrong". Like I say that as a meme bc it's funny, but let's be real he did...a lot of horrible things.

Hawks. Hawks is probably one of the most complex characters in BNHA and every time he makes an appearance, I love it. He has a wonderful design, and he's a character that much like Shigaraki, you can easily see how he became the way he is and STILL, know he's done some horrible things. Horikoshi seems to enjoy these characters who show that Hero society can't function if everyone views it with the black and white perspective of "Heroes good, Villains bad".

Twice. Twice is a tragic character that, although NOT an accurate portrayal of DID or any irl mental disorders, fantastically serves his narrative role. Twice is regarded as a very kind and sweet person, and even if he has a part in crimes like Bakugo's kidnapping and has killed people, he isn't a malicious person that fits the mold of what citizens would think a Villain's like. His struggle with identity and how Heroes just don't save people like him affected me, and it did remind me of how people with mental illnesses in the real world are maligned or even outright ignored if they aren't the "acceptable" kind of mentally ill.

Steven Universe

Rose/Pink Diamond. I immediately fell in love with Rose's design from the first episode, and I like that over the course of the series, the original portrayal of her as a perfect figure and savior is...A) not at all accurate and B) something that Pink probably hated that people thought of her that way. I like that Pink was an immature brat who over time, had to learn that despite being a Gem she had the potential to change. And even though she did mature, she still fucked up...A LOT. And I like that the show, especially Steven, isn't afraid to point out that she absolutely fucked things up and it isn't fair for Steven to have to bear the burden of her mistakes. She's a character I could spend hours thinking about, lol.

Pearl. Pearl's development from the start of the series to the end is probably my FAVORITE character journey in Steven Universe. Aside from that, I love her musical motif and very graceful aesthetic (I always love Pearl-centric episodes just because I like watching Pearl, lol), and DeeDee Magno Hall's performance as her VA is fantastic. I love seeing Pearl, I love hearing Pearl, and I love learning more about Pearl.

Hmm. I love Opal, but she doesn't get much play throughout the series. I'd say either Bismuth or Spinel! Bismuth's actual reveal was nice after years of wanting to know about the bubbled gem in Lion's mane, and I love her design, her voice, her musical motif, and her role in the group. Blacksmith characters are awesome! Also, her fight with Steven and the scene after he stabs her is one of my favorite moments in the series. Spinel's just a fantastic character from every angle I look at: design, powers/abilities, narrative role (as a villain and as a reminder of how awful Pink was, even unintentionally), VOICE PERFORMANCE. I love everything about her, holy shit I love Spinel.

The Old Guard (subjective & incomplete) reclist

I’m having so much fun reading and writing in this fandom (and v. soon podficcing, I hope!) and I thought I’d share some of my fave stories so far!

These are all Joe/Nicky centric, with various background/secondary pairings. 

Fever of Light  by mytimehaspassed

5k, Mature, pre- and post-movie. Content notes: canon character death, violence.

A beautiful exploration of Joe & Nicky’s relationship and also their relationship with the team, through the trials they face together. A quiet, almost dialog-less piece with so many moving moments.

In the cottage, there are birthdays and anniversaries and holidays, and it’s mostly happy and mostly sad, and Andy cuts off all of her hair with sheep shears one morning, spreading the locks over the garden beds for fertilizer, watching Nicky watch her do it. She smiles at him reticently and tells him in that broken voice of hers that she’s leaving her past self behind, and he nods and understands, and once inside presses a small kiss to the back of Joe’s neck and remembers what it’s like to love and be loved.

Another beautiful take on “We met in the Crusades.” I loved the nuance with which it depicts the ups and downs of their relationship and the extremes of their feelings towards each other. All the feels, as we used to say!

His voice is easy, almost a little rehearsed, when he quotes: “I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. I owe everything to God. My puny desires are meaningless—His grace is everything.”

Yusuf lets out a whistle. “A man that cannot be tempted by beauty. Your love for your God is strong indeed.”

“When did I say I was not tempted by beauty?” Nicolo says.

A Healthy Working Relationship by sabrina_il

Post-movie: Joe and Nicky always have a ritual welcome threesome with new members of the team. I loved this take on the Joe/Nicky relationship with the suggestion that perhaps their sexualities aren’t perfectly identical, and the Nile pov, being in control of what she wants and her desire.

Was this a good idea? Did Nile care?

She was immortal now. She couldn't have a family, no permanent attachments, no human connections for the rest of her unnaturally long life.

But she could have this. She could have Nicky, and Joe, and this comfort they were offering.

“What does Italy have to say about it?” Yusuf teased Nicolo, one beautiful morning in a city which had once been only a small village indeed by harsh mountains, insignificant until it wasn’t. He tweaked one of Nicolo’s dusty pink nipples, knowing he was already riled.

“Call me Italian again,” Nicolo said, heatless, but rising to the gentle taunt. “I’ll call you an Ottoman, and let’s see how you like it.”

Enemies to lovers at its fiery best!! Yusuf & Nicolo set out together across the desert after their initial meeting, until the inevitable realization that neither wants anyone *else* to kill the other one. I loved the tone and wit of this one!

‘You touch that horse,’ Niccolò said, with a frankly unprecedented sincerity, ‘and I will feed your own dick.’

‘My mother said you Franks were all lustful savages,’ Yusuf said, sighing, ‘and I am saddened to learn that she was right. You could just ask if you want to touch my dick, you know.’

Niccolò paused for a moment.

(He did not want to touch Yusuf’s dick: he did not want to think about Yusuf’s dick and until now, he has not been forced to. This was a new low for him and another proof that God just fucking didn’t love him.)

day 17

If I were able to write an accurate review of how I truly felt upon reading this chapter, it would be similar to that of a three-page dialogue filled with indecipherable fangirling garbles and ineloquent threats in the form of pterodactyl screeches. I found myself toggling between overtly thirsting over Yoongi (like any other warm-blooded person would) and giggling like a poorly developed cartoon villain for the majority of the chapter, questioning whether or not I should even send in my thoughts since most of it would simply be *insert keysmashing here*. It wasn’t until I began thinking about the prompt distributions for this week that led me to the idea of “choices”.

There’s a reason why writers are told over and over again to “show, not tell”; actions speak louder than words. Oftentimes these actions reveal things to the audience about the characters that perhaps even they do not realize about themselves. For example, Yoongi chose this prompt. Why? The answer hinges on how the prompt was specifically written as it was most likely open ended to leave room for interpretation. But if one were to even infer what the prompt might have been, it boils the prompt down to the idea of “control”. Now, the contestants do have quite a bit of say in how they carry out their prompts (with little in way of instruction or restrictions) but if one looks at the restrictions that they do have that hold them back, Yoongi getting to take back some of that control feels almost liberating. This is spectacularly juxtaposed with the “truth or dare” game that takes place over the duration of chapter – a perfect example of something that he has no true control over – (which also coincides with Yoongi’s day-long prompt fill; *phew* our lady had her WORK cut out for her in the most delicious way!!). In the “truth or dare” game, Yoongi had a disastrous day but he was also getting to WORK on Y/N throughout the runtime of it. One could call it losing the battle but ultimately winning the war? Because it truly is a battle at this point. By monopolizing an entire day to complete his prompt, he inadvertently took a day away from the guys to complete their prompt. Coupled with the fact that he got to choose who got what prompt, this week is shaping up to be Yoongi stacking all the cards in his favor. And let’s be real, isn’t that exactly how he would want it?

Okay now that all of the analysis out of the way, I can finally gush about this chapter the way I want to: *ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh* I LOVE YOONGI IN THIS DAMN VERSE SO MUCH YOU CANNOT CONVINCE ME OTHERWISE. Y’ALL other chapters better bring your mofo A-GAME this week or else they will just PALE in comparison to the Trifecta of CUM-tastic scene stealing moments from Day 17!! OMG!! OMFG!! This chapter was amazing!! (sidenote: Despite the fact that I might have noticed that this chapter felt like it was… on a bit of a “time crunch”, it was still good. There wasn’t a problem with the pacing, it just felt like the writer trying to finish it before an imaginary time bomb went off. That being the case though, it did not deter it from the awesomeness that was day 17!! Also did you notice that our lady’s lovely sweater turned from a pretty yellow shade to pink by the end of the chapter? I chalked it up to the flavored soju Y/N and Kookie were sharing.) Fave stuff list style: Hobi used to be in cheer?!, unintentional crop top sweater wearing Namjoon, YOONGI BEING THROWN UNCEREMONIOUSLY INTO THE POOL!! This is extra funny bc we all know that Yoongi in RL hates being wet, Jungkook’s ideal sexual scenario! ALSO, ALSO!! Jan doesn’t really like degradation (it’s kinda hard for me to read) but you somehow manage to weave it in so tastefully. It’s probably because I trust you as a writer which is amazing that you’re able to convey that sense of trust between the characters thus, the reader also trusts that the term is used as a term of endearment rather than to degrade her value as a person. *making it rain brownie points* 

*tucks away rabid fangirl Jan* I’m so sorry about her… I don’t usually let her out because…  she can be a bit uncouth, but this chapter did things to me so… This really set the bar like astronomically high for week 3. I was already so pumped for this week (my BFF – let’s call her 🍊 – and I discussed this excitement at length over the last week), and to have it start off like this, I am just so ecstatic for what is in store for the rest of the guys this week! They have their work cut out for them for sure as Yoongi-centric chapters, for me at least, will forever be “objectively superior”. Thank you so much for your continued hard work. I know it’s gonna get more and more tough considering you’ve started your final semester of uni but I shall be cheering you on from the sidelines like Park Jimin in the stands cheering for b-balling Min Yoongi! Thank you for sharing your amazing talent for storytelling once again; I honestly feel so blessed to have it to look forward to every week! 💜 Jan

Now Deadpool just have to figure out exactly what he is gonna do with this information. Which is quite simple really. He's going to leave Spidey flowers and win his heart this way or the one, where Deadpool spams Spiderman with flowers, and Spiderman has no idea what's going on

Tale As Old As Time, Song As Old As Rhyme (This belongs to the series  “A Spider in the Pool”) It is absolutely fucking good, I recommend you read them. Do read the warnings though yeah?) Peter Parker gradually falls for Wade's dubious charms. They have a lot of hang ups and kinks to negotiate, but with sex this hot, Peter can't help wanting more. Erotica with significant plot and relationship development.

gotta be honest i really don’t get why so many people are saying that jasper has been totally fucked over as of the latest su:f episode??? like yeah with only 4 episodes left it’s definitely not gonna be as thorough as it ideally could be but that’s kinda par for the course with su in general, and with steven reacting the way that he did to jasper’s deference it seems like they were directly setting up development for her in the finale??? idk yall i think we can trust rebecca to give at least a nod towards jasper healing in her personal post-series future before it all ends, considering how literally every other character has gotten to do so. i really don’t think rebecca’s been like maliciously ignoring the potential of jasper development or anything and i’m saying this with jasper being my #1 fave character

would i fucking LOVE a bunch of jasper-centric episodes? my god, of COURSE. but do i think that ANY realistic development of her character, let alone a whole redemption, could be reasonably done in 11 minutes? yeah.... no. honestly, to me, jasper is one of the most realistic or at least most relatable characters in that she actually seriously needs TIME to change. she isn’t pliable to steven’s efforts. she rejects them consistently. she doesn’t react in any kind of ideal way - like fuck, even the DIAMONDS all turned relatively quickly. jasper has refused to heal because she’s yet to have been shown what it even IS that she should heal from.

frankly i think that getting anything significantly MORE than a nod within the last 4 episodes, at this point, would be unrealistic. jasper’s nature and nurture are both incredibly unique (have we seen ANY other gems with a nose-placement gem, even? that’s a clear indication that no one else is as hard-headed) and they’ve led her to respect one thing and one thing only: power. it’s her literal Purpose, and she spent thousands of years being praised for fitting 100% into that purpose, and then very abruptly in the scheme of things she had to deal with Everything She Ever Knew just getting obliterated and then having to start from scratch, all the while having a simultaneous hard-wired Need To Serve + betrayal from the very authorities that she served. 

but now it actually does seem like she’s gotten the beginning of what she needed - steven did already want to help her before, but now she actually fully understands that he isn’t rose/pink AND respects him. i think she’s going to accept his attempts to help her heal soon. and it’s still going to be slow-going bc that’s just who she is, but i really don’t doubt it’ll finally happen.

an arranged marriage au! its canon divergent, though from where I couldn’t exactly tell you, though it doesn’t particularly matter. it isn’t a Sansa-centric fic, but it IS about sansa healing from her trauma. 

you might recognise this author from my weekly rec two weeks ago, so if you couldn’t tell I rather adore them and you should read any of their stories. this story is honestly fantastic, and is currently a wip on chapter 2/5. 

it approaches Sansa’s trauma and ptsd with the appropriate levity, but it’s not so heavy that you come away feeling exhausted. 

and, honestly, caring and understanding Jon is peak Jon in my opinion, so, please, check this one out.

soulmate au! soulmate au! soulmate au! set pre-series, soulmarks are extremely rare, and Sansa is blessed with having one. amidst the celebrations for her new mark, Sansa discovers that Jon has kept it secret that he also has a soul mark - and then finds out that it’s the same as hers. 

this is a wip, and is likely abandoned, with it only having 2 chapters and last updated in 2017. it’s why I haven’t read this earlier, and also why it’s not my main rec. however, the two chapters that it does have are really fantastic. the author really captures Sansa’s voice perfectly, and doesn’t magically remove the major flaws Sansa had as a child, which a lot of fics (at least that I've read) have a tendency to do. but she’s still kind, as we all know her to be, and such a delight.

Growling in annoyance at the laces not cooperating, he gripped the material and pulled hard, tearing it easily and allowing it to fall away from her chest. Sansa's yelp of surprise was extended as he nudged her onto the bed, eagerly parting her legs and stepping between them.

Or: all Sansa needed was some good D to mellow her out so she isn't constantly falling out with Arya!

alternate universe in which everyone always knew Jon was a Targaryen and there is - you guessed it! I was in a specific mood this week! - an arranged marriage between Jon and Sansa. 

if you DON’T know this author, I'd be surprised! they’re super prolific (seriously! I just checked their ao3! 315 jonsa stories, what an icon). 

features Dom!jon (one of my greatest loves), but there is also some VAUGE dub con undertones - which I literally only say bc it features Jon being angry with Sansa and it manifesting itself as sexual frustration which he relieves without asking her (ish!), and without knowing whether it’s something she’d be interesting in, as well as the fact that their relationship is still pretty new and they’ve only had sex a couple times. it’s made clear, of course, that Sansa is pretty into it, but still, I thought I'd put that out there.
