i think one of the reasons nicky and joe have such a fantastic screen presence together is because marwan and luca just get it. like from what i’ve gleaned from the cast interviews and stuff is that a lot of their little interactions were improvised by the actors and that both men just really understood the two characters and the devotion and love they felt and said yeah i’m really gonna deliver this

Because he is clearly upset when he realises he could have killed Andy, he's ready to leave with her to save her life, and then he turns around and says to Joe and Nicky "you can't understand everything I've been though" without so much as apology for turning them over to be tortured indefinitely. And that is exactly what Nicky explicitly says is their worst fear!

He really thinks it over for a moment, considering saying yes but not wanting to detract from the team going in. Three going in is simply not enough. Ultimately, he shakes his head. “No, I can do it.”

She nods, getting her own bag over her shoulder. Nicky knows that with his sniper, he’s going to have to get over there on his own at this rate, which he’s perfectly capable of doing, but it feels strange to split up this time. He can’t quite say why, but there’s something unsettling in the pit of his stomach. Just in case, he throws an extra granola bar in his bag, and wanders to the elevator.

“My earpiece will be in and on, let me know when you get there,” he says once he’s pressed the button. “By the time you get there, I should be in position to take out the roof security.”

“Thank you, Nicky,” Andy says quietly. There’s something he doesn’t like about her voice, but he can’t quite put a label on that either.

Joe throws his arms around Nicky, holding him tight and close for a brief few moments. Nicky relaxes into his grip, snaking his arms around Joe and resting his face in the crook of his neck. The look Joe gives him immediately after tells him everything; Joe is more than conscious of Nicky’s words from last night, and he is not going to forget them. "Ti amo” is the last thing Nicky says before he backs onto the elevator despite Joe’s clear concern, and the unease in the pit of his own stomach.

I watched The Old Guard on Netflix the other day (SO AMAZING!!) and i can’t stop thinking that if Ianto Jones was immortal like Jack than Captian Jack Harkness and Ianto Jones could have been like Joe and Nicky and now I’m crying
