synopsis: in which Drew surprises you at one of your races
a/n: based on this request!
my masterlist
"I miss you" you whispered into the phone, your eyes stuck on the hotel room ceiling.
"I miss you too, darling" Drew's voice echoed through the phone, bringing a sad smile to your face.
The room was silent, the buzz of the track long gone as the late hours of the night rolled around.
The city lights of Abu Dhabi illuminated your dark room, casting a cold glow over your body.
The final race of the season was finally there, and you were so excited to finally finish the season on a high.
But still, something wasn't quite right.
Drew wasn't there with you.
He had to do some interviews for his new movie, "Queer", and couldn't attend the race. But even though you understood the demands of his job, you couldn't help the sadness that settled in the pit of your stomach.
"I wish you were here with me" you said, absentmindedly playing with the necklace he had given you for your 2 year anniversary.
Drew sighed, missing you just as much as you were missing him.
But slightly less, because he had booked a flight to come and see you as early as tomorrow, right before the race started.
"I know, I wish I was there with you to watch you be crowned World Champion" he said, teasing you a little with a smile on his face.
You laughed, knowing he was right.
After an amazing season, filled with multiple victories and even more podiums, you would finally be crowned World Champion after tomorrow's race.
Drew knew very well that becoming World Champion had been your dream ever since you were a little girl. It was precisely the reason why he had decided to reschedule his interviews and fly out to be with you during this moment in your career.
He couldn't wait to see the look on your face when you'd see him.
"Isn't it late over there?" Drew asked, after a few seconds in which neither of you said anything.
You looked over at the clock on your bedside table, the numbers illuminating 2:32 am.
"Yeah, it's half past 2 in the morning" you said, the tiredness of the full day slowly starting to catch up to you.
Drew huffed, knowing that you have to get some rest for tomorrow.
"You should get some rest, love. You need to be focused for tomorrow" he said, his voice soft.
You sighed, knowing he was probably right, but at the same time, you didn't want to hang up.
You wanted to keep talking to him, no matter what.
"But we barely had time to talk today" you said, your voice small.
Drew knew how sad you were, but he also knew you needed an incentive to actually start thinking about you and the race ahead.
He sighed, a smile tugging at his lips as he stood in the airport first-class bathroom, hoping you wouldn't pick up on the chatter outside the doors and realize he wasn't home where he was supposed to be.
"I know, and I'm sorry. But you know how it is, we're both busy right now. We'll see each other when you get back, and we'll make up for lost time. But you need to focus on tomorrow so you can show everyone just how amazing you are and win this championship" he said, his heart squeezing at the fact that he's going to see you soon enough.
You groaned, burying your face into your pillow.
Despite not wanting to admit it, you knew he was right. The tiredness from the day was catching up with you, your eyelids now heavy and your limbs sore.
"Okay. You're right. Talk in the morning?" you asked, your voice tired, but hopeful.
Drew chuckled, which warmed your heart and made it long with desire to see him soon.
"Yeah, text me when you wake up. I love you, good luck tomorrow" he said, his voice warm.
"I love you too" you said, your voice drowsy.
Drew smiled as he waited on the phone for a couple more minutes, listening to your breathing get slower and slower until he was sure you had fallen asleep.
He whispered a quiet 'I'll see you tomorrow' and blew you a kiss before he finally hung up, stuffing his phone in his pocket as he went back to the main lounge, counting down the minutes until his flight would take off and he would be a step closer to getting to Abu Dhabi.
A step closer to seeing you.
♡♡♡♡♡
Morning rolled around, your alarm blaring throughout the spacious hotel room.
You groaned as you stretched your arm and blindly tried to find your phone, desperate to get a little more sleep.
“Where the fuck is it” you grumbled under your breath, lifting your head to search for your phone through bleary and sleepy eyes.
Once you finally got a hold of your phone, you immediately disabled your alarm, falling backwards against the pillows once again.
You were tired, your limbs felt heavy, your eyelids were refusing to stay open for more than a couple of seconds at a time.
Maybe staying up late to talk to Drew wasn't your brightest idea, especially before a big race like Abu Dhabi.
After spending a couple of more minutes with your eyes closed, you finally decided to get up and start the day.
Grabbing your phone from the nightstand, you unlocked it and quickly texted Drew a good morning text.
You frowned a little when there was no reply from him, seeing as he usually always responded to you as quickly as he could.
Shrugging it off, you slowly got ready and met up with your personal trainer to make your way to the track.
Still frowning because Drew hasn’t texted you at all.
"Have you heard from Drew today? I texted him this morning but he hasn't replied to any of my texts" you asked Lizzie, your personal assistant.
Lizzie stilled for a moment, but quickly recovered and shook her head, giving you a sympathetic smile.
Unbeknownst to you, she knew about Drew's plans to surprise you, and knew he was currently on a flight to Abu Dhabi.
"No, sorry. I'm sure he's just caught up with interviews and doesn't have his phone on him" she said, at which you nodded.
Maybe she was right.
Or maybe she was downright lying and he was currently minutes away from landing in Dubai.
Only time will tell.
♡♡♡♡♡
"You're due in the car in 15 minutes" Lizzie announced as she stuck her head in your driver's room.
You smiled at her and thanked her, turning your attention back to your phone. You sighed, opening the iMessage app for what felt like the thousandth time in the past hour.
Drew still hadn't texted you, which was really nothing like him to not be in touch for so long.
What if something had happened to him? What if he got into an accident or something? What if he needed your help and you had no idea where he was?
Dozens of dark thoughts were clouding your mind, each more somber and dangerous than the previous one.
Where was he? Why wasn’t he answering you?
Your fingers were hovering over your keyboard once again, thinking about sending Drew just one more text before you really started freaking the fuck out.
But just as you were about to start typing out a message, there was a soft knock on the door.
"Yes?" you called out, your eyes fixated on the door.
There was no answer, but the door slowly started to open.
And then, your whole demeanor perked up instantly. There, standing in the doorway of your driver's room, in Abu Dhabi, was Drew in the flesh.
He sported a wide smile as he stood there, a huge bouquet of your favorite flowers clutched in his arms.
Tears started welling up in your eyes as your eyes found his, looking at you with so much love and longing for all the weeks you had spent apart until now.
"Please tell me I'm not dreaming right now" you said, your bottom lip trembling and your voice croaked with emotion.
Drew smiled and hung his head low, stepping into the room and closing the door behind him.
"I'm here, baby" his husky voice filled the small room, and that was it for you.
You quickly stood up and practically launched yourself in his arms, your head filled with nothing but love and gratitude for the man standing right in front of you.
Your head was buried in the crook of his neck, and you were inhaling his scent, that scent that could make you weak in the knees in no more than a second.
His arms were holding onto you tightly, the flower bouquet now completely forgotten about laying on the floor next to your little sofa.
"I missed you so much" you whispered, squeezing your eyes and letting the tears fall on his shoulder.
"Shh, I'm here now" he cooed, cradling the back of your head with his big hand.
The feeling couldn't be put into words, no matter how hard you would try. You had missed him so much, missed having him close to you, missed sleeping beside him every single night, missed his kisses and his lingering soft touches.
You had missed everything about him.
"I hope you know you're in trouble for not answering my texts all day and making me worried sick about you" you mumbled, your voice muffled by the collar of his jacket.
Drew laughed, his chest rumbling against yours.
"I know, I'm sorry" he said, kissing a spot beneath your ear, which had his breath tickling the side of your exposed neck.
You didn't even care that you had to be in the car in now probably less than 5 minutes.
The car could wait.
You were too focused on Drew to care about anything else.
But another knock on the door seemed to want to ruin your plans completely.
"Who is it?" you called out, still holding onto Drew tightly, not ever wanting to let him go.
"It's me" Lizzie called out from outside your room. "I'm sorry to break you guys up, but we need you in the car, the race is starting in 10 minutes" she said, which made you internally groan.
For a split second, it had felt like the race could be forgotten. That you could just skip everything you had to do that day now that Drew was with you.
But reality was knocking on your door (in the form of Lizzie) and telling you that it didn't quite work like that.
You still had a championship to win.
"Go, I'll be in the garage cheering you on" Drew said, pecking your cheek before slowly unwrapping his arms from your waist.
"Thank you for coming here. I love you" you said, taking his hand in your hands and pressing your lips against his.
The kiss told him everything that you couldn't put into words. How much you had missed him, how much you loved him and how grateful you were that he was there with you.
"I love you too. Now go, before your engineers have my head for making you late" he said as soon as you pulled away, giving your ass a small pat as he shooed you out of the room.
You smiled cheekily at him and took your helmet, pecking his lips one more time before you followed Lizzie to your car.
Let the show begin, you thought.
♡♡♡♡♡
You didn’t even remember how you had managed to finish the race due to the tears that had been streaming down your face from the final 5 laps of the race.
And then when you finally crossed the finish line in first place, you couldn’t remember ever feeling so happy and emotional because of a race ever before.
Adrenaline was coursing through your veins as the reality of being world champion started to settle in your mind, but your mind was focused on one thing and one thing only.
Seeing Drew.
As soon as you parked the car in front of the “1st place” sign, you jumped up and ran straight to him, waiting for you with your team at the barriers.
You scrambled to get out of the car as soon as you possibly could, desperate to throw yourself in his arms and finally let your emotions run wild.
"Drew!" you yelled out as soon as you got out of the car, abandoning your helmet and balaclava somewhere on the floor.
You broke out into a run, ignoring every single camera or reporter that had been waiting for you.
Drew smiled and jumped over the barriers, outstretching his arms just at the right time as you crashed into him, your hands wrapping tightly around his neck and your head resting on his shoulder.
“I’m so proud of you” he whispered into your ear, kissing your cheek and cradling the back of your head.
You chuckled and closed your eyes, enjoying the feeling of being with Drew after you had just achieved the biggest milestone of your career.
“Thank you for being my lucky charm” you said quietly, squeezing him a tad tighter than before.
Drew smiled and pulled away from the hug, cupping your face in his hands and crashing his lips against yours.
It was a messy kiss, very rushed and sweaty, but neither of you really cared at that point. Just being with each other was enough in that moment, nothing else mattered except the two of you in the middle of the busy post-race paddock.
And with flashes going off all around you, you let yourself be carried away by your boyfriend, basking in the glory of having just made history.
And having Drew by your side while doing it.

buff guy
╚══•.·.☆.·.♥︎.·.☆.·.•══╝
ʚ Part 6 ɞ
❥ CW: chubby fem reader x buff guy, third date!, reader goes to the gym, fluff, sexual innuendo
❥ A/N: I'll be going back to work this week so the parts may slow down a bit, just a heads up!
You wake up around nine thirty on Saturday morning, but you scroll on your phone in bed until ten. You get up, start your coffee as you get dressed. You pull out a three-piece workout outfit you bought online a couple months ago but have only worn a couple of times. It's in your favorite color, leggings and a sports bra with a cropped jacket, all the same pattern. You put it on, admiring your form in the mirror. You rearrange your breasts in the mirror so that they're pushed together more, and you zip up the jacket to under your chest, giving a perfect view of your cleavage.
You briefly wonder why you're doing this, but you know why.
You have a small coffee as you wait, scrolling through your phone until there's a knock at your door.
"Just a sec!" you yell, filling your coffee cup with water and leaving it in the sink. You grab your water bottle, slipping on your gym shoes before opening the door. "Hi!"
"Hey." He's wearing sweatpants and a baggy hoodie. His eyes glance up and down your form. "You look nice."
"You like it?" you ask, looking down at your outfit before giving a pose. He smiles softly.
"Yeah. It looks good on you." He reaches out but pauses, drawing his hand back. "Can... may I make a small adjustment?"
"Oh? To my outfit?" He nods. "Uh... sure."
He grunts, reaching forward and grabbing the zipper on your jacket, pulling it up until it reaches your collarbones. He pulls away, nodding.
"Better. You ready?"
You glance down at your now covered chest, then back at him.
"Uh, sure. I'm ready." He hums, then glances down at your feet.
"Your shoes are untied." You look down at them with him.
"Yeah, I know. I'll tie them when I get to the gym."
"Let me."
"I—"
He's already down on one knee, fiddling with your shoe laces. He ties them for you, not too tight, just snug enough that it's comfortable. He moves on to the other shoe and does the same. When he's done, he pulls back, admiring his work. He nods and stands, when you jab a finger into his chest.
"Stop doing whatever you want to me without asking."
"What?"
"You keep doing stuff without asking me how I would feel. Picking me up, tying my shoes. I get that you want to be a gentleman, but you need to ask me if I'm okay with you doing these things before you do them, okay? We still don't know each other that well yet, so you can't be doing whatever you want to me, got it?"
He slumps a bit, but nods.
"Okay. I'm sorry for doing those things without your permission."
"I forgive you. Just ask me next time, okay?" He nods again.
"Okay."
You tug at your jacket, closing your apartment door behind you.
"Ready?"
"Ready."
The gym he goes to is clearly more advanced than your gym. Your gym is full of casual exercisers, people who don't make the gym their life. Here, the gym seems to be the only thing that matters in these peoples' lives. The men are so muscular here, and the few women that there are have sculpted bodies. You imagine them all to be gym influencers on social media.
"What do you want to do?" he asks, hands in his hoodie pocket.
"Oh, um..." You glance around the gym, thinking. "Well, I like to do cardio before I lift weights, so I guess I'll go on the treadmill for a bit before using the machines."
"I'll join you," he offers, already guiding you to the treadmills.
"Oh! You don't have to! You can go do your own workout if you want."
"I invited you to the gym so I could work out with you, not alone." He steps up on a treadmill, holding out his hand for you. You take it, his hand keeping you steady as you get up on the treadmill next to his. "There's no point in coming here together if we don't work out together."
"Alright, alright. If you really want to work out together, we can." His hand is still holding yours. His thumb runs along the back of your hand for a moment, but before you can ask him what's wrong, he pulls his hand away, turning the treadmill on.
You prep yourself with some light stretches before you turn the machine on as well. You start slow, letting your heart rate build up before you get into a fast walk. You glance at Guy, who is walking at a faster speed. You chalk it up to him having longer legs and a longer stride than you, so you don't fret about it.
It's not until he starts running beside you that you become competitive. He bumps up the speed on the treadmill and falls into a jog. His speed is fast, but he makes it look so easy, like this is just a warm up for him. You huff, increasing the speed on your treadmill to match his, just to show him that he's not the only one who can do that.
It doesn't work out well. You sprint for twenty to thirty seconds before you're decreasing the speed again, huffing and puffing. You slow down to a walk again, catching your breath, and this asshole is still running without panting at all. It was slowly pissing you off, but you reminded yourself that your levels of fitness were different and that you shouldn't feel bad about the level you were at. You were still strong and healthy, and that's all that should matter.
Twenty minutes pass when you turn off the machine. He turns his off soon after, slowing to a jog and then a walk before stopping altogether. You make eye contact as you sip some water.
"What would you like to do next?" You hum.
"Weightlifting, but I'm not familiar with your gym." He points off into the distance.
"There's some Smith machines over by the free weights. We could do that if you want." You shrug.
"Sure, sounds good."
He leads you over to the machines he suggested, a bit more pep in his step. Maybe running gave him some more energy.
He goes to an end machine, next to the free weight benches, before turning to you.
"We could alternate between the two," he points to the free weights and the Smith machine. "You could be on one and I could be on another. Or I could spot you, if you'd like."
"Oh, I don't need a spotter," you wave him off. "I'm not gonna do anything crazy, but thank you for offering." He nods, waiting. You glance at the equipment before stepping towards the Smith machine. "I guess I'll start here."
"Alright. I'll pull a bench closer so we can work out next to each other."
"Okay," you reply, putting your water bottle down on the floor so you could set up. You raised the bar until it was shoulder height, moving to one side and adding some weight before adding that same amount of weight to the other side. You move back to the center of the bar, glancing over to see Guy place two large weights on a bench right beside your machine. You briefly wonder how much they weigh before you position yourself for squats.
You don't push yourself too hard. You do what you're used to, four sets of ten reps, increasing the weight by five or ten pounds once or twice to challenge yourself. You can feel eyes staring at you, but every time you glance over at Guy, he's looking away. You feel like you're going crazy as you reset the bar and take off the weights.
You opt for hip thrusts next, grabbing a foam bar to put over the metal bar you're using. You rearrange a nearby bench to sit in front of the bar, getting down on the ground after adding weights to the machine. You do some hip thrusts, four sets of ten again, only getting up once to add ten pounds to the bar. You can feel the strain in your ass when you're done, panting slightly after your last set. When you're finished, Guy shows up at your side.
"Can we trade for a bit?" he asks. You nod.
"Sure," you say, just a little bit breathless. You get up and move out of the way, letting him change the weights on the machine. You go to the bench he was using, taking your water bottle with you. You glance at the size of the weights he was using.
"One hundred pounds?!" you whisper in disbelief, glancing back at him. He's still adding weights to the bar. You swallow hard, humbly grabbing the five pound weights before returning to the bench.
You do some basic arm exercises: bicep curls, tricep extensions, just a couple you can think of. All the while, Guy has been doing hip thrusts and glancing at you every minute or so. You try to ignore him, to focus on your own workout, but his stare is so intense sometimes that you can't focus. He eventually finishes, getting up and stretching a bit. He walks towards you, leaning down.
"I'm going to run to the restroom really quick. You can have the machine back, if you want."
"Oh, okay. Thank you." He nods, walking away. You return your five pound weights and look at the weights he put on the Smith machine. You add up the weights together, slowly realizing that he was working out with more weight than you held on your entire body. You marvel at the idea of him being so strong before slowly removing each of the weights, putting them back in their proper place.
You decide to do dead lifts, adding weight to the bar before positioning yourself in front of it. You start your dead lifts, watching yourself in the wall-length mirror. You notice Guy show up when you're halfway through your routine, slowly approaching you. He's watching you, staring at you, more specifically at your lower half as you bend over. You finish your set, processing that he'd been staring at your ass the last couple of minutes of your workout. You reset the bar, turning around to face him, hands on your hips.
"You good?" you ask, a bit of sass in your tone. His eyes widen and dart away, his hand rubbing the back of his neck.
"Yeah, I'm good. I was just, um, going to see what else you wanted to do." You shrug.
"I'm pretty much done. You can keep going and I can just watch, if you want." He clears his throat.
"I just wanted to do one last exercise on the Smith before we go."
"Okay." You step out of the way, holding out your hands and presenting the machine to him. He smiles, moving to change the weights on the machine. You stand to the side with your water bottle, watching him add weights, adding them up in your head. He's added your body weight to the machine plus thirty more pounds. He moves the bench, laying down on it before grabbing the bar, preparing to do a bench press. You watch in amazement and almost horror as he bench presses your weight and then some on the Smith machine. Your eyes are wide as you stare at him moving up and down smoothly, barely straining under the weight. You glanced around to see other people in the gym staring at him, especially the women. A couple giggle and whisper to each other as they look at him, probably talking about how hot he is or something like that. You feel a tad bit embarrassed. What were you doing with a man like this? He was so much more competent in the gym than you were; it was a wonder that he wanted to work out with you at all. Maybe he regretted it, you wondered as he finished his last set, resetting the bar and sitting up. You glance at him in the mirror, and he's staring at you intensely, eyes dark.
"I'm... gonna go fill up my water bottle real quick," you say, turning on your heel and walking to the water fountains.
You unzip your jacket, feeling hot as you fill up your water bottle. You pondered your relationship with Guy, if it would last, if it was even worth it as your water bottle filled up.
"Hey," you hear beside you and you stop filling your water bottle, glancing at the man that had approached you. He was tall, not as tall as Guy, but he still towered over you. He wasn't as buff as Guy either, but he still looked very strong. "I like your outfit."
You glanced down at yourself before giving him a smile.
"Oh, thank you! I got it online."
"It suits you well." He leans against the wall, smirking at you. "I've never seen you around here before; are you new?"
"Oh, yeah, kind of. I've never been here before."
"Well, welcome." He holds out his hand. "I'm Josh." You hesitantly take his hand and shake it.
"I'm Y/N."
"Nice to meet you, Y/N." He pulls his hand away but still lingers. "You know, if we come to the gym at the same time, I could be your workout buddy. I could spot you and help you train."
"Oh! No, that's not necessary. I don't need a spotter."
"You don't? That sucks. I'd love to help you workout sometime."
You're about to ask him why when a large arm impedes on the space between you and this stranger, palm hitting the wall and making Josh jolt. You look up to see Guy, who is glaring daggers at the man you just met.
"Oh! Hey dude, I didn't know you were here today. You just get here, or...?"
"No," he grumbles, turning to you. He whispers a 'sorry' before zipping your jacket up again, covering your cleavage. He grabs your hand, turning to glare again at Josh. "We were leaving."
"Oh," he says, glancing between the two of you before raising his eyebrows. "Oooh. Got it, my bad dude, I didn't know she was off limits." He takes a step back but waves at you. "Nice to meet you, Y/N. Have a good day."
"What was that about?" you ask as Josh jogs off.
"Just an asshole that has no business talking to you." He looks back at you, his expression softening. "Would you like to get lunch now?"
You blink, giving a small shrug.
"Sure, we can."
"Are you mad at me?" Guy asks as you sit down with your food. You furrow your brow, taking a sip of your drink.
"No. Why would you think that?"
"Well, ever since we finished at the gym, you've been quiet. Was it because I zipped up your jacket again without asking you? Because I—"
"Guy." He stops, closing his mouth. "I'm not mad at you. I just... was thinking."
"About what?" he asks, taking a huge bite of his sandwich. You stare at your food, pouting before looking up at him.
"Don't scold me," you mumble. He shakes his head and you sigh. "I saw you lifting those weights earlier and I just felt so inadequate. I mean, there's plenty of other women more fit than I am, beautiful women with great personalities and perfect boobs and I just—"
"Stop." He puts his sandwich down, chewing the last bite before swallowing. "I don't want a woman like that. I want you. That's why I'm courting you; that's why I asked you to be my girlfriend. I want you, Y/N, nobody else. I want you because of who you are now, not who you could be. Okay?"
You curl into yourself, feeling your cheeks burn.
"Okay." You squirm a little. "I'm sorry for needing so much reassurance. You'll probably get annoyed with me, huh?"
"I can't promise that I'll never get annoyed with you, because anything is possible, but I promise I will never leave you or dislike you even if I'm annoyed." You swallow.
"Are you annoyed now?"
"No." He grabs his sandwich again, bringing it to his lips. "I honestly can't imagine ever being annoyed with you, but I suppose anything can happen."
"What would make you annoyed with me?" He shrugs after taking another bite of his sandwich.
"Maybe if you started dieting to lose weight, or if you broke up with me just because you thought I deserved someone different. Those things would bother me quite a bit."
You nod in understanding, sipping your drink again.
"What could I do that annoys you?" he asks. You hum.
"Well, if you try to control me, or tell me what to do when I didn't ask for your input. If you made mean comments about me or my body. If you did stuff like that, I would break up with you." He nods.
"I wasn't planning on doing any of that, but I'll keep that in mind." His shoe taps yours. "Don't let your sandwich get cold."
"I won't," you huff, sticking your tongue out. He chuckles as you grab your sandwich and take a bite, moaning happily. "Oh my god, it's so good."
"It is, isn't it? I love this place."
"How did you find it?"
"I was just looking for somewhere to eat for lunch one day and stumbled upon it. Now I come here pretty regularly."
"I can see why. This is delicious!"
He smiles, taking another bite. The both of you eat in silence for a little while.
"So," you begin, putting down your half-eaten sandwich and wiping your hands on a napkin, "what was the deal with that Josh guy? Do you hate him or something?"
He groans, rolling his eyes.
"I'm not fond of him. He's a huge flirt with all the women at the gym, and he ghosts them after he fucks them."
"How do you know all of this?"
"Because he brags about it to all the guys who will listen. He brags about sleeping with women at the gym and then never texting them back. He's an asshole." He takes another bite of his sandwich, huffing. "I don't want you exposed to a guy like that." You hum.
"And why did you zip up my jacket all day?"
He pauses as he goes in for another bite, glancing up at you. He closes his mouth, swallowing hard, glancing down at your chest before looking back in your eyes.
"I didn't want people to look at you." You raise your eyebrow.
"You mean my chest?" He hesitates but nods. You nod slowly. "I see. So you didn't want people looking at my titties?" He scoffs, coughing for a moment, covering his mouth.
"I guess, if you wanna say it like that." You smile, humming. You twist your mouth, reach for your zipper and slowly pull it down, exposing your cleavage. His eyes widen, flicking down to your chest and back to your face. He glances around the restaurant and you giggle.
"Nobody is looking but you, dingus. Nobody else cares."
"That's what you think. I've seen the way people look at you."
"Oh, really?" You take another bite of your sandwich as he nods. "And how do they look at me?"
"Like they wanna fuck you." You shake your head as he takes his last bite, picking up stray ingredients on his plate and eating them.
"You're crazy. Nobody wants to fuck me but you."
"If you can't see it, then you're blind." You scoff.
"Rude. The only person people were looking at today was you when you lifted all those weights." He scrunched up his face, shaking his head.
"Nobody was looking at me."
"Yes, they were. There were a couple of guys and girls looking at you. Bet the girls were thinking about asking for your number."
"Well, I wasn't paying attention to them, so they don't matter. All I was thinking about was you." You take another bite of your sandwich.
"Is that why you were lifting weights heavier than me?" you asked.
"Ah. So you did notice."
"Yeah, I did. What was that all about?" He wipes his mouth with a napkin, sighing deep.
"I wanted to impress you." You nod slowly, swallowing your food.
"Well, I was thoroughly impressed. And horrified. I thought the weights were gonna crush you."
"I wouldn't let that happen. I'm too strong."
"Yeah, no shit. I've seen that several times."
"Well..." He scratches at a spot on the table, not looking at you. "I wanted you to see it again."
You sigh, glancing at your sandwich.
"I was very impressed," you continue. "But I already knew you were strong when you picked me up at our last date."
"I know. But that was only temporary because you didn't like it. I wanted to show you that I could hold your weight for longer."
You hum, taking another bite.
"Then why did you use my weight for the hip thrusts?" you ask, glancing at him. You see him squirm in his seat, scratching at his jawline, avoiding eye contact. You squint at him, thinking, before your eyes widen and your mouth falls open.
"Oh my god. Oh my god!" You gasp, covering your mouth to hide your shocked smile. "Guy, you—oh my god, are you kidding me?!"
"I wanted to impress you," he whispered harshly, still not looking at you. You reach across the table and playfully slap his bicep.
"You bad boy!" you tease, shaking your head. "I can't believe you. Doing hip thrusts to impress me? Oh, you're naughty."
"Don't tease me," he grumbles, pressing his forehead against the table and sighing loudly. "I feel stupid."
"You're not stupid. Don't say that."
"I'm embarrassed."
"You're cute." He turns his head to look up at you with puppy-dog eyes.
"You think I'm cute?"
"Yes. I've told you this before, you silly goose." You finish your sandwich as he sits up straight, taking a deep breath.
"Y/N."
"Yeah?"
"When I take you home, can I kiss you?" You choke on your last bite, covering your mouth with your hand and coughing. He reaches across the table for you, but you hold up a hand to stop him.
"You—hack—you want to kiss me?!" He nods, eyes locked on you. You shake your head and laugh lightly. "Well, at least you asked instead of just doing it.
He pulls up in front of your apartment, opening the door for you to get out. He walks you up the stairs.
"I really enjoyed today," he tells you sincerely. You smile at him.
"I really liked today, too. Thank you for inviting me."
"Of course." He stops when he reaches the door with you. "I'd love to do this again sometime, if you'd like."
"I'd like that." He returns your smile, staring at you. You lean on one foot, tilting your head. "So, I guess you want that kiss now, huh?"
"If that's okay."
You giggle, pulling on his hoodie, coaxing him to go down one step so that his face is closer to yours. You cup his cheeks with both hands, smiling sweetly at him.
"You ready, handsome?" He swallows, licking his lips.
"Yeah."
You sigh, leaning in and puckering your lips before pressing them gently against his. His mouth is receptive to yours, letting you mold against him and kiss him sweetly. Your lips push and pull for a moment, his large hands coming to rest on your wrists, holding your hands against him. You give him one last kiss before pulling away, smiling at him. His eyes slowly open, hazier than before.
"Thank you," he whispers, drunk off of your lips. You rest your forehead against his, staring into his eyes.
"Next time we'll use tongue," you whisper back. He chuckles, turning his head to kiss your palm.
"I don't know if I can handle that yet."
"We don't need to rush," you reassure him. "I like the pace we've been going at. I appreciate you letting me take the lead on most things."
"You're welcome."
You pull away, patting your hand against his chest.
"Can I call you tonight?" he asks.
"Of course." He smiles wide.
"Cool." He clears his throat, stepping down. He gives a small wave, which you return. "Bye."
"Bye, Guy."
He takes the steps two at a time, jumping down the last three and landing on the concrete. You giggle as he practically skips to his car, giving you one last wave before he gets in, driving off.
You enter your apartment, doing a little dance as you make your way to the bathroom for a shower.

Three's a Crowd 2
Warnings: non/dubcon and other dark elements. My username actually says you never asked for any of this.
My warnings are not exhaustive but be aware this is a dark fic and may include potentially triggering topics. Please use your common sense when consuming content. I am not responsible for your decisions.
Character: Steve Abnesti, Steve Rogers, Steve Kemp
Summary: You’re offered a deal without all the details.
Note: happy friday
As usual, I would appreciate any and all feedback. I’m happy to once more go on this adventure with all of you! Thank you in advance for your comments and for reblogging ❤️
Your eyes stray to the table of cookies again. In the rush of days, blending together with back to back shifts and disparate hours of sleep, you lost track of yourself. When you finally thought to eat, you found an empty cupboard and just as desolate bank account. Rent, electricity, all that ate away at your already leaking reservoir.
Your stomach grumbles and you clasp your hands together, pushing on your middle to ease the clenching. You're so hungry you can barely focus on Caroline. You blink and make yourself listen. You don't want to be disrespectful.
If Kelsey is on shift tonight, she'll let you snag a bag of fries at least. Not the best meal, but something.
You feel weak the more you think about food. A bit dizzy. As you push your shoulders back, your eyes meet another pair. Steve smiles at you from behind his square glasses. You rock and give a sheepish grin.
You do your best to stay alert. You have a half-shift after this and you're not sure how you'll get through. You should have skipped today.
When at last the session lets out, you hurry to join the line, checking your phone for the time. You don't want to miss the bus.
"Working after?" Steve startles you as you shuffle up the table and reach for a cookie. The white macadamia are your favourite. You keep from scarfing it down as you so desperately want to.
"Um, yes," you reply.
"Bus?" He takes a cookie and bites into it with a hum. You're salivating.
"Yeah," you cough. "I should go catch it."
You wrap your cookie in a napkin and step out of queue. He follows.
"Would you like a ride?" He offers.
You nearly trip, "oh no, I couldn't. That's so kind though."
"I don't mind." He drawls. "You work a lot?"
"I guess. But really, you don't have to--"
"You look as if you might fall asleep on the bus," he muses.
"Oh, no, I'm... fine."
"Well, I do hate to keep you then but I hoped to speak with you about something."
"Me?" You utter in surprise.
"Yes, well, we all know each other here. I just thought... well, we all seem rather lonely, don't we?"
"Sure, uh," you look down at the cookie then him. "Alright, I'll take the ride. Can I give you some change for gas."
"Please, don't you even fret," he waves you off.
He follows you to the door and holds it open. You go ahead of him and nibble on the cookie, unable to resist anymore. He points you across the lot to the same car he drove past your window. The memory makes you cringe.
You stop outside the passenger door and chew furiously. He climbs in the other side, "coming?"
"I don't want to get crumbs in your car."
"No worry, please. It's cold."
You look down at your sweater. You're shivering. You're not so much used to the bluster as done fighting it. You cover the cookie and put it in your pocket. You dust off your chest and hands before you get in.
He turns the engine as you buckle your seat belt. A smooth hum rolls through the car. It's so nice you feel as if you might mess it up just by looking.
"Um, so," you begin as he backs out. "What did you want to talk about? I hope... when I asked about your wife, I didn't mean to upset you."
"Oh no, that's what these meetings are, right? We're supposed to talk about all that." He steers and glances over at you. "I appreciated you asking. You're a really sweet girl, you know that?"
'Sweet girl.' The way he says it makes you feel even small. That and how big he is. "Thanks, Steve..."
"I was only thinking. About you," he keeps one hand on the wheel as he leans his other elbow on the arm rest. "Working in that window. Two jobs, you said?"
"Yeah, one's only part-time."
"Still a lot." He remarks.
"But er, well, it's not... you don't need to worry about it."
"I do," he insists.
"Why, uh, well, we don't really know each other." You say as you peer put the window, your words sending a chill through you. You don't know much about Steve and you're in his car.
"I know you work hard. I know things have changed a lot for you since your grandmother passed. And you know how I understand that. That I'm going through the same..."
"Yeah, everyone in the group, I guess, um," you babble dumbly.
"I was only thinking... well, you lost more than your grandmother. You lost a whole life. You've had to adapt a lot more than the rest of us." He pauses and your stomach growls loudly. You wince. "Is that cookie all you've had?"
You shrug, "Steve, I hope... I hope you don't think I'm that helpless."
"Helpless, no, but we could all use help from time to time." He slows as he rolls into the lot of the fast food restaurant. The ride was a lot quicker than the bus. "Which is what I'm offering. Help."
"Ah, oh," you sink. "Is it that obvious?"
"You had a nice wool coat a month ago. You didn't have to fight to stay awake. You... spoke a lot more--"
"Right," you sniff. "It's nice of you to offer but I gotta learn to do things on my own now."
"Do you?" He angles in his seat. "Sweetie, it's no big deal."
"It is to me. I don't even know-- what is it? A job? You know I don't have a degree."
"Mmm, no," he pokes the tip of his tongue out and looks away. "Not a job, but... it isn't safe for you to be taking the bus so late. And definitely not good to be sitting in that cold window for hours."
"Steve, please, you're embarrassing me."
"I... I don't mean to so I'll be honest. I lost my wife, I miss her terribly. And you lost the person who took care of you. So we could... help each other fill that void."
You squint at him then your phone. You have ten minutes. You sigh.
"I don't know--"
"I am trying to be delicate here but... there's men who pay for girls like you. They pay a lot."
"What?" Your voice cracks. "You-- I'm not a prostitute. I--" you pull on the door handle but it doesn't budge. "Let me out. I can't believe-- I never even-- how--"
"I know you haven't before. Which is what I'm saying. I'll pay to be your first--"
You turn to him and hit his arm, "that's...wrong."
"I know. I'm just so... I would make it special, sweetie."
He reaches for you and you push yourself against the car door. Your eyes prick and you swat his hand away. You're humiliated that he would even think you would do that.
"Steve," you reach into your purse and take out a handful of change. You drop it in the cupholder and turn to unlock the door. He touches your shoulder and you shrug him off as you escape. "Thanks for the ride."

Sujamma Sundas!
Thank you for the tag @skyrim-forever 💞
Tagging: @dirty-bosmer @friend-of-giants @firefly-factory @illumiera @hircines-hunter @lillxart @ladytanithia @pocket-vvardvark @rakaiawriter @sheirukitriesfandom @sanza-17
Topic: This week, Sujamma wants to know about YOUR OC's special someone. What makes their relationship special? How did they meet? Were they enemies to lovers? Lovers to enemies? Lovers AND Enemies? Are they romantic or platonic? What's their favorite way to cuddle? Favorite date night? Anything and everything you can think of 💕
Ohhh, do I need to decide who I'll be talking about here? Can I talk about all my main couples? :P
Let's start with Nevri and Morotar. What makes them special is him being a detestable cunt and her being the one to hit him on the head for it. They actually got to know each other because he saved her and Canmal's life when they were attacked by Boethiah's cultist. Back then he was "a mercenary" and travelled with them back to Winterhold, where they decided to hire him for getting Goldbrand. And while travelling, Nevri did fall for his looks and cunty character and the rare times he can be nice :P (She's vulnerable, okay??) One thing comes to another and after they got closer, everything falls apart. With DwD 2 their story goes on, Morotar has a severe loss of memories but as their paths cross again, he does one thing: he knows her. A lot of pushing away from her follows until they do get closer again (she has good reason for that) while he will utterly fall for her 😩❤️ I don't know how their story will end and what will come of them, but I love to picture them together in a calm future. Anyway, I guess they go like: strangers -> reluctant friends -> lovers -> enemies -> strangers -> whatever the fuck that mess is they are in in part 2 Thinking about it, they'd love to cuddle in a bed and have their peace together and I often picture how Nevri washes his hair and he does enjoy that so much because someone cares for him. Their idea of a date night might be sparring or something :P
Going on with my favourite toxic couple: Ancano and Faralda! These two idiots started out as... let's call it colleagues and the entire thing became a secret work place romance at the College of Winterhold. Until Ancano's toxic ass fucked up big time after gaslighting the shit out of Faralda and cheated on her with Nirya. Nirya does thing she has won, but ... the price is foul🤢 Anyway, they do have a toxic rebound after Ancano got stabbed by a certain Dunmer woman mentioned in the text before. For Faralda is really is the last time this has happened, until she sees him being a yearning mess for her and decides to play with him. Currently, we're at the phase where her sadism really spirals out of control (good for her). As they do not have a traditional relationship, I'd say their idea of a date is a little strange. Ancano would like to have her only for him and longs for her attention. He'd cuddle with her after sex, to keep the appearance that it means more to him but he's not really a cuddler. After he cheated in her, Faralda does want to cuddle with anyone but him :P Her perfect idea of a date is her throwing rocks at him ❤️
And here we are with my most fucked up couple, that is poor Ria and Mannimarco. Hell, she chose the worst man. But my bf likes to argue that Ancano is worse because he's racist and Mannimarco is too egocentric to be really racist 😆 Well, let's see. She is absolute delulu and unhappy in the place she is now, serving a group of men (ew) in a dilapitating fort. And there comes her worm knight in shining armour... or red cloak... to her rescue. He infiltrates her brain until she falls for him and she is absolutely and utterly in love with him. Too bad that he sees her as his little experiment. But that does not hold him back from fucking the lab rat. He's nasty like that ❤️ You could say, it is a very romantic gothic horror lovestory that I'm crafting there and so their ideal date would be basically what I've written in chapter two, just having sex in a fairy ring under the moonlight. And for Manni it may include feeding her corpses and counting how many maggots he can pull out of her orifices. Well... yeah. That's that!

I took the good times, I'll take the bad times II Joel Miller
Summary: Joel doesn't think he's deserving of love after all he did and all he went trough. Or maybe he's just scared. Either way he can't let himself fall for (Y/N). Now if only she'd stop sending him those damn postcards.
Pairing: Joel Miller x Female Reader (I always try not to describe the reader physically, if I missed something please let me know so I can change it and make this "applicable" to every reader. Thank you!)
A/N: This is my entry for the dear-uary challenge by @jolapeno . My prompt was "Character A keeps finding X and traces them back to Character B, who might be leaving them intentionally—or not." And I chose Postcards as my form of epistolary.
TW: This is mostly angsty fluff. There is some talk of self doubt and loss of a child but I think that should be it.
Likes, reblogs, comments are all much appreciated. I am German. Sometimes I get the tense wrong or make mistakes. I am useless when it comes to punctuation. Go easy on me, please.
It all starts with a simple postcard tucked into the side pocket of his bag. Joel almost doesn’t realize it’s there, folded twice into a tiny square. It’s only when he’s looking for the list Maria gave him of all the things to look for on this run, that he grabs a hold of the card.
His gloves make it hard to unfold the small paper but it’s way too cold to take them off. Joel was never big on winter and snow, even before everything went to shit. He doesn’t like the way it lingers, the way it consumes you from the inside out. Now, an unforgiving cold is all he feels as a thick blanket of snow has settled upon Wyoming.
Bold bright letters scream out to him from the wrinkled paper “ Greetings from Tampa Florida. Wish you were here!”.
It’s one of those campy vintage ones where the letters are filled with drawings of landmarks and beaches. He remembers sending one just like this to his High School girlfriend when Dad took him and Tommy on a trip to Nashville when Joel was 16 maybe 17. It was a good trip, the last one they ever took together. Sometimes Joel wonders how his dad would deal with all of this. This new reality. This fucked up world. He always seemed so strong, so fearless. That man was unstoppable force and immovable object all at once. Every vulnerability Joel finds in himself, he’s sure was absent in his father. Maybe if he was a little more like his own dad he could’ve saved Sarah, could’ve spared Ellie the pain of living in this limbo of knowing and not knowing. Maybe, maybe, maybe.
Joel moves closer to the fire, his only light source other than the stars. There’s writing on the back, blue ink on off-white paper. It’s not a handwriting he knows and for a second he wonders if the card has been there ever since he found the bag years ago, back in Boston. But he would know that, right? Would've found it by now. This must be new. This must be meant for him.
“ I know you hate the cold. I know it makes you sad and gloomy, well gloomier than usual. So let me tell you about the hottest day I ever experienced. I was a kid, maybe 7 or 8 and my mom took me to Florida. Not Tampa (it was the only postcard I could find at the library), but Orlando. We went to fucking Disney World!! We didn’t have a lot of money back then so mom must’ve saved a long time for this. Anyway, Joel, it was so hot. Unbearably hot. My clothes stuck to my skin and my hair got all frizzy. Maybe July wasn’t the best time to go. The air was so thick and heavy, so moist (ew). It felt like breathing in honey, syrup maybe. I still had the best time. I know it doesn’t take away the cold but I hope I can take you away to that hot and humid Florida summer for one small moment. If not, there’s a wool scarf at the bottom of your bag. Made it myself. You never told me what your favorite color is. I hope you like blue. xx
P.S.: I wonder what happened to Disney World.”
A chuckle falls from Joel’s lips and forms a cloud against the sharp winter air. He's never been to Disney World. The Millers just weren’t a Disney World kind of family. They were more of a local fair kind of family. All corn dogs and funnel cakes and first kisses behind the bumper cars. Sarah would’ve loved Disney World though. Ellie too. Ellie who doesn’t even know what the hell Disney is. 14 years and the girl has no idea who Mickey Mouse is. What a surreal thought. What a strange world. More than 20 years and it still feels strange. Joel wonders if life will ever let him settle in this new reality. If one day this feels like home and not a bad dream. Not a cosmic punishment. A bad joke that no one’s laughing at anymore.
His eyes travel back towards the blue swirly writing. It’s not Ellie’s bad chicken scratch, he could pick that out of a line-up any day. This looks much neater, more deliberate, and thoughtful.
“There’s a wool scarf at the bottom of your bag.”
Quiet, as not to wake up the others sleeping just a few steps away, Joel opens the zipper on his bag and rummages through it with a gloved hand. There’s a bunch of stuff in there, food rations, ammunition, a second pair of gloves. Going on supply runs is not something Joel enjoys but it is a way for him to give back. To Tommy and Maria and the entire community. Jackson and its people have taken him and Ellie in as one of their own without much hesitation. They provided them with food, with shelter, with trust. He has so little to give in return. Going on a supply run to look for medicine and other necessities, that’s the least he can do.
Something soft and squishy meets his hand and he pulls out a dark blue woolen scarf. There are so many holes and even in the dim light of the campfire, Joel can tell those holes are not there on purpose. Maybe it was Ellie after all, but then she never showed any interest in knitting, and the idea of her doing just that is far too ridiculous. No matter how imperfect it is though, Joel has to admit the scarf does make him feel warmer as he wraps it around his neck.
“Hey,” Adam, one of the other guys on the run, speaks up from beside Joel, “you can catch some sleep if you want. I can take over the watch.”
It’s a strange thing, how sometimes you don’t notice just how tired you are or how hungry you are until someone points it out to you. Until they offer to take it from you. Then it hits you like a brick to the face. A wave pulling you under.
Joel feels his eyelids grow heavy and nods at the younger man. "Thanks".
This mystery, it can wait until tomorrow. Until then he will bury his face in the warm soft wool of the scarf and think of that Florida sun. And though it most definitely is just his imagination, Joel could almost swear the night feels a little less cold.
His boots leave deep imprints in the white icy blanket as he makes his way past the Tipsy Bison and the community hall further towards his house. His home.
No place has really felt like home in years. Not since all of this started. Everything was temporary. 4 walls and a roof. He wonders if this place will ever start feeling like home? Will he ever get to a point where he doesn’t wait for the second shoe to drop? It all feels like he’s Charlie Brown and life is Lucy pulling the football away at the last second. And it always ends with him falling. He’s so tired of falling. So tired of getting back up.
Joel almost expects the house to be silent as he steps inside. Ellie is slowly making friends with the other teens living in the settlement and is spending more time at their houses than she is at home. He can’t blame her. If he was more like his father he’d find it in himself to start conversations with people, get to know them, forge connections, make friends. Of the Miller boys, Tommy is the one who inherited their dad’s social gene though, Joel only got the snarl and the crippling inability to talk about his feelings.
Laughter echoes through the house as Joel rounds the corner connecting the entryway to the living room. Ellie’s laughter, loud and bright and light. As if for a moment all the horrors and the pain and the trauma have been taken from her.
When he steps into the kitchen, Joel understands.
(Y/N) is standing by the counter, a smile on her face so soft and radiant it might just rival the sun. That joy she brings out in Ellie, it’s familiar to Joel because he feels it too whenever (Y/N) is around. Not always but sometimes. It’s a spark of warmth that starts in his chest and crawls up his spine. It settles in his lungs, his heart, his brain. Like a parasite. Like a virus. Like a wonderful dream. He doesn’t allow himself to feel it all the time but sometimes, sometimes he can’t deny himself this little bit of warmth.
Joel can’t even remember when exactly (Y/N) became a part of their life. It’s like one day she was there and refused to leave. And really that’s kind of how it went. She works at the library and the school, lives across the street from him and Ellie and for some reason, she’s taken pity on them. Joel isn’t sure if it's him or Ellie she pities. Maybe a mix of both. Either way, she brought over some soup one day and that’s the beginning and end of it all. She’s wormed her way into Ellie’s heart and by extension his too. Whether he likes to admit it or not. Doesn't hurt that she's so damn beautiful too.
“Joel, you’re back!”
Ellie pulls him in a tight hug. It’s something Joel still has to get used to. Ellie isn’t a particularly affectionate person. She’s definitely not a hugger. And neither is Joel — not anymore at least. So when they do hug, it’s still a little strange. Not bad strange just unfamiliar.
“Yeah, Im back.
“How did it go?” (Y/N) asks and meets his eyes over Ellie’s head. A silent conversation happening between her and Joel. It’s that thing she does where she doesn’t need to say a single word but Joel can tell exactly what she’s thinking just by the look in her eyes. He sometimes wonders if this is a them thing.
“Did someone die” her eyes are saying. “Did someone get hurt?”
“Did you get hurt?”
He quickly shakes his head answering her unspoken questions. Not this time.
“Good. It went good.”
Maybe the relieved sigh he sees her let out is just his imagination. But Joel doesn’t think so. Joel thinks it's very real.
“Did you bring us something? “
He can’t help but smile at that. It feels good to smile. In a world that gives you grief and sorrow, you start to count the moments when it gives you a reason to smile. They are few and far between but the number has surely increased since Ellie stepped into his life — and since (Y/N) did.
“I brought food and medicine. Isn’t that enough? “
A determined “no” falls from both their lips in a chaotic harmony.
“Geez, you guys are demanding.”
“Well — did you bring us something?”
Joel just rolls his eyes and rummages through his bag for the goods.
“For you— “ he says and throws the old wrinkled comic book towards Ellie who regards it with that endless sense of wonder she does possess. It’s the kind of spark that flickers and dies once you grow old. Or maybe just his did. Maybe grief leaves no room for wonder.
Placing his bag on the ground, Joel moves into the kitchen and holds out his loot to (Y/N). Green background. White goats. Yellow bubble letters.
“Oooooh, you did get me something. Pet Sounds, nice!”
There’s a spark in her too. Dulled and dusted from time but it is there and it flickers and grows every time Joel brings her a vinyl record from his trips outside of the settlement. In a world with so little joy, music seems to be one of the few things that hasn’t changed. In the face of immeasurable pain, humans turn to music. They have done so for a long time and judging by the world as is, they always will.
“I hope it works still. Didn’t really have a record player to try it out.”
“I’ll try it out as soon as I get to the library. Feel free to come by and listen with me.”
“Sure.”
“Thank you, Joel. I hope you didn’t have to do anything stupid to get this.”
He didn’t. Not this time. He would’ve though. It scares him how willing he is to put himself in danger just to get her something that will put that radiant smile on her face. He’d walk to the end of the earth if he knew there was a record there she wanted. That thought scares the shit out of him. It’s bad enough he cares so deeply about Ellie, about Tommy. The more people you care about, the more you open yourself up to hurt. Losing either of them would tear him apart. Joel is not sure he can handle opening his heart to yet another person no matter how much his heart wants just that.
“ Nah. No issues.”
“Good.”
She just looks at him for a moment. All soft eyes and gentle smile. There must be something she sees in him, Joel thinks, something he doesn’t see. A version of himself that he isn’t, that he will never be. A version he once was, maybe. A version he so desperately wishes he could be. For her.
“Well,” (Y/N) says and snaps him out of her enchantment “Ellie and I made some stew. I know you must’ve been freezing outside, some good warm stew might help warm you up a little.”
“It smells great.”
“You have impeccable timing because we just got done. So, dig in. And uh — I guess I’ll see you guys at the movie screening?”
He doesn’t want her to leave. The devil and the angel on his shoulders are both screaming at him to ask her to stay. And if he was any stronger a man, any more like his own father and more deserving of good things, he would ask her. To stay for dinner. To stay forever.
But he isn’t. And he doesn’t ask. Just watches as she wraps a scarf around her neck and slips into the thick jacket that's a few sizes too big on her.
“I left the recipe by the fridge. Just in case you ever want to cook it yourself.”
“Thanks.”
And he really is grateful. For her. For everything.
“Oh Joel,” she says and stops in the doorway. “I like that scarf. Blue looks really good on you.”
And then she’s gone, swallowed by the cold winter air.
Joel hasn’t thought about his favorite color in forever. It’s something you stop thinking about once you start growing hair on your chest and fantasizing about girls in a way you haven’t before. Kids talk about their favorite colors all the time. Sarah did. It’s just once you grow old you lose that sense of self, define yourself through different things.
Looking at the scarf now, all holes and imperfections, there is no doubt in his mind that his favorite color is blue.
“Have you ever been to Paris?”
The lights are dimmed in the big community hall, the movie playing on screen providing the only source of light as the people of Jackson have gathered for another movie night.
A glimpse into a world that was but no longer is and never will be again. And for some of them, like Ellie, a world that never was to begin with.
Ellie is sitting in the front with some of the other teens, her friends, Joel supposes. She has friends now.
“Joel, have you?”
A soft hand rests on his arm, shaking him from his gloomy thoughts. (Y/N) sits next to him, eyes focused on the pictures dancing across the screen. Ilsa and Rick, falling in love over and over again in Paris. The beginning of a love story doomed from the start.
“I uh — no. Never.”
“Me neither. I would’ve loved to go though. It looks beautiful.”
He doesn’t know why or how it happens but the words just flow from his mouth like a waterfall. For the first time in a while, he finds himself wanting to talk more. About the past. About Sarah.
“My daughter, Sarah, went to Paris once. Some school exchange program. They don’t usually do it until later but her French class was above average and I guess they won some contest. I don’t know it was a long time ago.”
“Sounds like she was a smart cookie.”
"Oh, she was. Too smart for me, that’s for sure. Was hard letting her leave and fly to a whole different continent though. I was scared out of my mind until she was back home. Drove Tommy crazy for a whole damn week.”
(Y/N) turns her face away from the screen and regards him with that infinite sense of something more. Soft and endearing. If he was a different man he would call it love. He would see the way she looks at him and he would kiss her stupid and life would be all sweet dreams and gentle touches.
But he is the man he is. Not worthy of whatever she is willing to give.
“What’re looking at me like that for?”
“It’s just sweet how much you care. About everyone. I think you don’t even know you’re doing it half the time.”
“Do what?”
“Care for others. For Ellie and me and all of us. You’re a good man, Joel Miller. I just wish you’d let someone take care of you for a change.”
He doesn’t need to be taken care of. He can do it all on his own. And anyway, he is not as good of a man as she thinks he is. Good men don’t have the blood of their loved ones stuck to their hands. Good men don’t let their daughters die in their arms. Good men don’t kill. Good men don’t do all the things he did.
Joel doesn’t want to be a good man. He just wishes he was good enough a man to allow himself to be with (Y/N).
“I ain’t a good man. And I don’t need someone to take care of me.”
“You wore that scarf, did you not? You allowed me to take care of you then.”
That damn scarf. He had a hunch it was her. The handwriting on the postcard matched the one of the recipe stuck to his fridge an awful lot. But it’s something else entirely to hear her say it outright.
“That was you, huh? Had an awful lot of holes that thing.”
“Hey, I never said I was good at knitting. You wore it anyway.”
Joel turns back towards the screen as Rick and Ilsa share a loving kiss.
“Yeah, I wore it anyway.”
And to the sound of bombs and tanks, (Y/N) rests her head on his shoulder.
That’s what you do for the people you love. Even if you don’t allow yourself to love them.
You wear the scarf anyway.
The mailbox flag is up. Bright red against the sharp white of the winter's day.
It’s never been up. People around here don’t get mail. It’s but an ancient relic of a life they used to live. Remnants of a society long gone.
But Joel is nothing if not curious. So he stomps up to the mailbox, leaving deep imprints in the freshly fallen snow.
It’s another postcard. Only this time it doesn’t come with a mystery. This time it comes with that silly little feeling that makes his heart beat just a little faster. That makes his head swirl with stupid thoughts of stupid dreams.
“From Paris with love, it says on the front. Fucking Paris, of course.
Sometimes the way he feels about her is infuriating, confusing, scary.
And sometimes, like right now, it feels like a ball of warmth settles in his ribcage and warms him from the inside out.
“Dear Joel,
We’ll never have Paris. Not in this life at least. And while I would’ve loved to see the Eiffel Tower sparkle with you and make you eat a croissant (which you would’ve pretended to hate but I think you would’ve enjoyed it secretly), I am glad to get this life with you at least. Or alongside you. Whatever it is we are, I am glad this life gave me that in between all the pain. Despite what you like to tell yourself, Joel Miller, you are a spark of fire, a light in the dark. You are more than the sum of your failures, you are more than your pain. All the good that is in you, that counts. That’s all that matters in the end. And there is so much good in you.
I wish you’d let yourself see it.
We will never have Paris. But we’ll always have Jackson and that is enough for me. I hope it’s enough for you.
Here’s looking at you kid! ;) “
There’s a tragedy in knowing someone else sees all your good parts and none of the bad. A tragedy in knowing how much they like those good parts and being awfully aware that seeing all the bad parts would destroy them.
A tragedy in still wanting to show them all of you, even the ugly soul-destroying parts.
But if she thinks he’s a good man, then Joel needs to be just that. A good man who keeps those ugly parts hidden and away from her. Even if that means denying himself the one thing he wants.
“What’s that?” Ellie speaks up from beside him, a curious look on her face.
“Postcard.”
“Like what people would send from vacations and stuff?”
“Yeah, how do you know about that?”
She rolls his eyes at him and it’s one of those moments where he feels like a dad again. Those little moments that mean the world to him because he gets to feel like the old him. The Joel he thought was long dead and buried beside the bones of his own child.
“I watch movies? I talk to people? I read books? Take your pick.”
“Wow, when did you become such a smartass, huh?”
She shrugs his shoulders at him “Was born that way. Nothing I can do about it.”
“Unfortunately.”
“Hey, you’ve grown to love me! You wouldn’t want me any other way.”
And she isn’t wrong. Ellie, with all her curiosity and her bravery and her lust for life, whatever that life may look like, is exactly what he needed. Which makes him wonder if saving her from the fireflies was ultimately more of a selfish act than that of a heroic savior.
“Who’s it from?”
“None of your business.”
“Oh, so (Y/N).”
His eyes flick up and he is met with that satisfied, mischievous grin that is so uniquely Ellie.
“What makes you think that?”
“You always change the subject when I bring her up. And that way you just jumped when I mentioned her? Yeah, you’re not slick, old man.”
“Hey! Who are you calling an old man?”
“You! Old and scared!”
“I’m not scared!”
Like hell he is. Terrified even. But there ain’t no way in hell he’ll admit that to Ellie. She’ll never let him hear the end of it.
“Then go talk to her! She likes you, you like her. Why do you have to make it so complicated?”
If only she knew all the ghosts swirling around inside of him threatening to break free. Things could be so easy. Only nothing ever is.
“Mind your own business, kid! Anyway, don't you have someplace to be? Think Dina came by earlier asking for you. You two are getting along well, huh?”
“Aaaand on that note. See you for dinner, old man!”
She’s gone before he can even hurl a reply at her. It pulls his lips into a smile. There’s no better way to get a teen to shut up than to bring up their crush. Nice to see that some things never change.
Another run. Another record.
Joel feels silly, standing here in front of her door with his heart beating fast and heavy as he clutches the vinyl record in his hand.
If Ellie saw him now, she’d surely make fun of him. Tommy too. Sarah even.
What happened, Joel? You used to be so brave. What makes you so afraid now?
Life, he thinks. Life has made him scared and bitter and sad.
“Did you wanna knock or — ?”
Joel turns around as the voice calls out to him. There it is again, that softness, that smile.
“Uh, yes.”
“Okay, good. Did you come to see me? Sorry, I was helping Maria at the farm.”
“Yeah no uh — don’t worry about it. I just came to drop this off”
Her eyes grow wide as she catches sight of which record it is he’s holding up.
“No way! The stranger! You found it.”
“ I did.”
He had to clear an old dilapidated bar full of clickers to get that record. Almost lost his damn arm in the process. But her smile, that god-damn, life-ruining, world-shattering, heart-beat-faster, smile of hers makes it all worth it. He would give both arms, all of him. He would give it all to see her smile.
“Do you wanna come in and listen to it with me? Got my player fixed so I don’t have to use the one at the library anymore.”
Say no. Just say no and go home. Be a good man! Be a better man!
But he’s not. For this one moment, he can’t be that man. He’s just as weak as the rest of them.
“Sure.”
This feels so — normal. So before everything. Different and twisted and warped. But normal.
It’s scary and comforting all at once. Like a tipsy dream when you know you’ll wake up with a headache for sure.
(Y/N) is twirling around her living room, a beer in hand and a smile on her face. Joel leans against the door connecting her living room and her kitchen and all he can do is stare. At this woman who means so much to him. Too much for him to ever put into words. If he even knew how to. He’s never been a poet.
“I said I love you, that's forever
And this I promise from the heart, mmm
I couldn't love you any better
I love you just the way you are, right”
“I love this song. Can you imagine someone loving you enough to write something like this about you?”
Yes, he thinks. If only he WAS a poet. He would write a hundred songs. A thousand. And all of them would talk of her smile and her eyes and the way there is no single thing about her he would change.
But words fail him. They always do.
So he just nods.
“Joel,” she says and moves closer. The bottle of beer now placed on her couch table, her hands find his chest. So warm. So soft. And all he does is stare.
“I know you got my postcards. I know you know how I feel. And sometimes I think you feel the same. I see the way you look at me. I know the dangers you put yourself in to get me those records. I just — you never say anything. So am I making a fool of myself here? Please tell me if I — “
“You’re not.”
Wow, so eloquent.
“I’m not?”
Her voice sounds so small. So unsure. He hates that he’s the one who put the uncertainty there. Be a better man, Joel! Be a good man for once!
But all he does is stare. Words fail him. Again. again. again.
“Then can I — can I do this?”
(Y/N)’s gaze falls to his lips then back up to his eyes. She is so close. He can feel her warm breath on his skin. Can smell the scent of her shampoo. Notices the tremble of her fingers as her hands rest on his chest.
And he wants to kiss her. Every version of him that ever was and ever will be wants to kiss her. But all he does is stare.
All he does is stare and pull away.
And it breaks his heart to see hers break in that moment.
“I uh — oh I’m sorry Joel.”
Tears gather in her eyes, fill them with sorrow, fill his heart with rage. He can’t do anything right, can he? Everyone he’s ever loved, he’s disappointed. But how can he let himself love her, how can he let her love him, when he is so broken? When all he does is break things? Taint them with this infinite sadness that lives and grows inside his bones?
“It’s not you.”
“Oh please, Joel. I made a fool of myself already. Don’t make it worse.”
“I ain’t trying to. It just ain’t you. It’s all me. It’s always been me”
His palms are sweaty and he feels like someone has reached into his ribcage, cracked every rib on the way to his heart, and ripped it out with bare hands. Snapping veins and arteries and all.
“I want you. I want this but I can’t have it. You think I’m a good man but the truth is, I am not. I do bad things all the time, over and over again and time and life have made me so numb to it. But you, you are so good. You deserve someone better. Someone whole.”
It’s like once he’s started it all comes flowing out like a fucking waterfall. All his fears and insecurities and pain. It’s all there for her to be disgusted by. Because god knows there is no way she won’t be. He is. All the time.
“I have not been the same since this all started. Since Sarah — since she died. I live with this immense grief. It surrounds me. It IS me. All of me. And I so desperately want to claw my way out of it. Rip it apart and leave it behind. But at the same time, I want to bury myself in it. Because what if I do leave it behind and I start to forget? Her and all that she was? How is it fair that I have to remember her far longer than I got to know her? So if I get better, if I become the man I need to be to be worthy of your love, am I still gonna be the man she knew? Can I still remember? Because that is all I have. And that is not a burden I can put on you. Not you and not Ellie.”
Joel takes a breath then another but it does little to calm him down.
“You two mean everything to me and I am sorry I am bad at showing it. That I can’t say it. I need you to know, it’s all me that’s the problem. It was never you. I’m sorry.”
He doesn’t wait for her to say anything. He doesn’t think he has the heart to hear a reply anyway. It’s like he just ripped himself open and spilled all his guts, his heart, his lungs, and all his inside out on her living room floor.
If he was any better of a man he’d pick them up and try to rearrange them.
But he is not a good man. Maybe he never was.
“There was something for you in the mailbox” Ellie exclaims and slumps down on the couch next to him. “I was this close to opening it but I didn’t want to make you even more grumpy than you already are.”
“I’m not grumpy”
He has to admit, the tone in which he said those words does not do much to counter her point. Ellie knows too, judging by the way she raises her eyebrow “Sure, you’re not.”
She drops a sunflower yellow envelope on his lap. ‘Joel’, it says in that swirly handwriting he’s become so familiar with.
It’s been a few weeks since he’s seen (Y/N). Since he spilled all his sorrows and worries to her and then ran. And, surprisingly, Jackson makes it very easy for someone to avoid another person if you only try hard enough.
Maybe Ellie has a point, maybe he has been exceptionally grumpy lately. No correlation to any recent events though. Absolutely zero.
“Sooo are you gonna open it?”
Ellie looks at him with curiosity and that little spark of mischief as if she knows something he doesn’t.
“Not with you watching over my shoulder, I ain’t.”
“Why?”
“Cause it’s none of your business.”
“Excuse me? I have to live with your grumpy ass because you guys can’t get your shit straight. I think it very much is my business.”
“Jesus, Ellie. Language!"
“Sorry,” she says and gives him that pseudo-sheepish look he’s grown familiar with. “You guys need to get your stuff straight.”
He used to scold her for it but really, he isn’t one to talk.
“Anywayyyyy, I’ll go stay at Dina’s tonight … just in case you decide to go over and apologize for whatever it is you did and you guys finally sort it out and need some privacy later.”
“Why do you think I did something?”
And there it is again that sassy eyebrow raise. The same one he’s seen on Sarah so many times before. It truly is a woman’s world and he’s but a fool living in it. And they let no opportunity pass to remind him of just that.
They are also absolutely right.
“My lawyer advised me not to answer that question. Anyway, be nice. Have fun. Byyyye”
Her voice trails off as she grabs her bag and rushes outside leaving Joel alone in this big empty house with nothing but his demons and this mysterious envelope.
Carefully he opens the seal and shakes out the contents. A postcard, a photo, and a — cassette tape?
His eyes find the photo first. It’s a polaroid of him and Ellie and (Y/N). All 3 of them smiling, yes even him. He remembers that day back last summer. It was one of those warm but not yet hot days. (Y/N) was wearing that agonizingly beautiful red sundress. The one that made his heart beat twice as fast. She brought over a whole basket full of cherries from the tree in her garden. A pie too. And that damn Polaroid camera.
Of course, Ellie was enamored by it, wasted almost the whole damn film.
“Come on Joel, let's take a picture together,” she had called out to him and pulled him to sit down next to her and (Y/N) on the blanket they had placed on the lawn.
“I’m not a picture guy,” he had grumbled, “ ain’t nobody want to see my old mug.”
“Oh shut up. Joel, you are so handsome, don’t even pretend like you don’t know that.”
It was the first time (Y/N) had ever called him handsome. It was hard for him to believe it then, hell it still is. But she has done it a lot more since then. Calls him handsome and gorgeous and pretty all the time. At first, he thought she was just humoring him but slowly but surely it dawned on him that she meant it. Means it still.
“We don’t know how many good sunny days we have left. Ain’t no shame in trying to remember this one, right?”
Her eyes held so much honesty then. Vulnerability too. And gratefulness for all they had then after all they had lost. It made him smile then and it makes him smile now.
The Postcard is next, big bold letters spell out TEXAS and in the corner, there’s a drawing of the Texas State Capitol in Austin.
When he turns the Postcard over, there it is again, that swirly writing he’s grown to love so much.
“Joel, the ‘Postcards from around the world’ book I got from the library didn’t have an Austin one but it did have a Texas one so that’ll have to do. I’m not even sure if you're going to read this. I hope you do because you didn't give me a chance to say my part when you stormed off & I think I deserve that.
You're not the man you were in Austin, you lived through the worst thing imaginable and it changed you. But you are not just your pain. It is part of you but it doesn't define you. I know you see all the bad but none of the good but believe me I see it! Ellie does! You are your pain but you are also the smile on Ellie's face when you bring her a new comic or teach her a song. You're the guitar chords echoing through the air on a warm spring afternoon. You are those fluttery feelings in my heart whenever you look at me.
Joel Miller, I understand if you don't want to be with me but if it's only because you don't think you're good enough then I think that's a choice I get to make. Taking that from me is a dick move.
You said you're bad at showing love but you're not. You showed me through all those records. Through all those songs. Now let me love you back.”
Joel can’t quite name the feeling spreading through him. It’s both foreign and familiar at the same time. Like an old friend. A hazy memory. Pictures blurred and dulled by time and age.
Maybe he was wrong, and he hates admitting that. Maybe he ain’t a good man but maybe that is hers to decide. Maybe. Maybe. Maybe.
He takes the cassette tape in his hand and squints his eyes at the tiny writing on the label. God, he really is getting old. Those eyes ain’t what they used to be.
God only knows - The Beach Boys - Pet Sounds
You’re my best friend - Queen - A Night at the Opera
Just Like Heaven - The Cure - Kiss Me, Kiss Me, Kiss Me (you should!)
In Your Eyes - Peter Gabriel - So
Time After Time - Cyndi Lauper - She’s so unusual
Your Song - Elton John - Elton John
Can’t Help Falling in Love - Elvis - Blue Hawaii
Wonderful Tonight - Eric Clapton - Slowhand
The Book of Love - The Magnetic Fields - 69 Love Songs (!!!! LOVE SONGS!!!)
Just The Way You Are - Billy Joel - The Stranger
"You gave me all these records with all these songs and all these words to tell me you love me and I’m not sure you even knew.”
And she’s right. He got her those records because he knew they’d make her smile. Because that smile means everything to him whether he wants to admit it or not. He got those records to show her that even when he’s gone on a run, she’s always on his mind. He believed it to be a curse, a ghost haunting him for all his past mistakes and taunting him with what he shall never have.
But maybe it’s not a curse.
Maybe it’s a blessing. A sweet song to remind him that someone back home is waiting. A gentle reminder that life can and will go on and good things can come from immense tragedy. And moving on doesn’t mean forgetting, in fact, it means remembering. Remembering the bad and believing that there can and will be good and that it’s worth it to go on. Even if you are a different you. Not worse or better, just changed. And that you deserve love. And kindness. And warmth.
Joel drops the envelope and its contents on the table and grabs his thick winter jacket as he rushes outside. The cold feels only half as bad as it nips at his skin, he barely notices. There is a fire inside him now, burning away all the doubts and hesitation.
He’s back at her door, only this time he doesn’t wait to knock. He’s spent so much time denying himself the one thing he wants that he can’t lose just one second more. The rapping of his knuckles against her door echoes through the winter day. Oh, how he can’t wait for the spring and the summer and her in that gorgeous dress.
“Joel?”
Back before — everything, Joel remembers a movie night with Sarah. She got to choose and despite being an avid fan of trashy action and horror movies, that time she chose a romantic comedy. All things considered, Joel can admit that when Harry met Sally wasn’t the worst choice but he still would’ve preferred Star Wars or Terminator.
He does remember the ending though, the grand finale. He remembers Sarah trying to wipe away tears without him noticing. And he remembers Billy Crystal’s words “When you realize you want to spend the rest of your life with somebody, you want the rest of your life to start as soon as possible.”
Back then he thought it was some silly, cheesy movie speak. No one feels that way, right? It’s grandiose and kitschy for the sake of movie magic.
But no, he’s sure now, that one is true. Because it’s how he feels.
“I love you!”
That confession should come with ribbons and flowers and fireworks but it doesn’t. It comes with honesty and that is all that matters. It comes from the heart.
“Huh?”
“I got your postcard. The photo too and the tape. And I love you.”
“I know. Took you long enough to figure it out.”
“I’m sorry. I — I still believe that I am not a good man and that you deserve better. But it would be selfish to punish you for my own insecurities. I love you and I want to let you love me. If you still want to, that is.”
“Joel Miller?”
“Yeah?”
“Please just fucking kiss me.”
Joel remembers a lot of kisses in his lifetime. Some rushed, some clumsy. Quick kisses in secret. Long drawn-out smooches in smokey bars. Loving, fast, aggressive, and soft.
This one is different, as cheesy as it sounds.
This kiss makes him feel like all he’s ever been and all he ever will be can live in peace with one another. This kiss makes him feel like none of it matters as long as he has her.
She tastes like peppermint and sunshine and he’s sure he’ll never get enough of her. The feeling of her skin against his as he gently cradles her face in his hand. The soft movements on her chest as she breathes. The twitch of her lips as she smiles into the kiss.
For the first time in his life, Joel is sure that a kiss is more than a kiss. It’s a healing hand on a shattered heart. It’s a new path to a new future. It’s sunshine melting the ice from his bones.
It’s a promise to try every day and to be better and to be enough. ---

would it be okay to request Black Rose Dragon or Firewall Dragon from Yugioh? i totally understand if it's too complicated to sketch, so no pressure!! Yugioh has a bunch of really neat dragon concepts for its monster cards and given the chance i just love to mention them lol
Would it be okay?... No. How dare you. I wouldn't draw that. Not at all.
Just kidding! AHAH - Yugioh has some awesome beasties, I see what you mean!
I def vibe with the black and red/rose motif, it was really fun to work on! ~ I’ll keep Firewall Dragon in my back pocket for when I’m ready to try doing it justice - that one really resonates with my fixation on Mega Man aesthetics, and, annnd, it’s a DRAGON! <3
#another I feel drawn to is the design of the Red-Eyes Darkness Metal Dragon. I'll keep that one in my other back pocket lol#legit I think doing this leveled me up another notch :O#answered asks#Made in Procreate#with apple pencil#my art#fan art#Yugioh#Yu-Gi-Oh#rose dragon#Black Rose Dragon#black and red dragon#dragon

This cotton doesn't look particularly good weaved but uh it's the first way I use it (besides mending, I got it for darning because it's made by 11 easily separable threads and it's very very very sturdy) that feels soft to the touch
#i made my big bag slash basket to keep the works on with it#and if does its job perfectly because it feels indestructible but it's not nice to touch crocheted#my mother used it to knit and it's slightly softer than crochet but still plasticky#weaved is soft#OH I CAN MAKE POCKETS FOR MY BAG LIKE THIS#anyway yeah i think I'll make some other stuff with it#i don't know if anyone seeing this is interested in knowing but this is drops muskat skeins#very very sturdy the darning i made with it are all still perfect EVEN THE SHEETS#also they have a lot of very pretty colors and it costs little and it's 100% cotton no synthetic shit

It has come to my attention that the Brokeback Mountain West End play is going to be showing while I'm in London and I need someone to physically restrain me from trying to convince my two lovely friends who have already agreed to see the silly little dancing newsboys with me to also see the sad gay cowboys.
#it pains me that i will have the ability to see it and won't#but i don't think i can do that to my friends they're already flying to london with me to see one west end show#they should get to do things they actually want to do#also i should probably do something other than sit in a theatre while i'm in england for the first time in my life#i'm gonna keep an eye on the ticket sales and if they're not selling out quickly#i'll keep that in my back pocket for if we want something to do :D#they will absolutely not go for it but just in case#saframbles#brokeback mountain#brokeback mountain west end

Random morning thoughts-- i kinda think at some point it'd be neat to have a verse set up where people could, ya know-- summon Angel in typical demon fashion lol (but as of rn, i don't think i've got the brain power to get that cooking--)
#🕸-♡-🕷⋄{Ooc Post}⋄🕷-♡-🕸#mainly thinking about this because it could make for far easier set ups when it comes to cross over stuff--#and means the other party wouldn't exactly need to think of an HH related verse--#but i also dunno if anyone would be interested in that???#so for rn i'll just keep it in my pocket-- and maybe do smth with it later e 3e

THE THREE OF US: AFTER THE GAMES || kang dae-ho
pairing: Kang Dae-ho x f!reader
summary: Dae-ho makes good on his promise
word count: 2.8k
warnings: pregnancy, childbirth, babies
A/N: for the sake of the story, they got out after the vote after the Mingle game. i had so much fun writing this, dae-ho is so girl-dad coded. if you find any mistakes no you didn't <3
part 1: The Three of Us
"Do we have everything we need? Am I forgetting something?"
You laugh as you watch the man run around the living room of your apartment. "Dae-ho, I'm not even in labor yet."
"I want to be prepared!"
After you had gotten out of the games, you and Dae-ho were delighted to find out that you lived not far away from each other. You were able to use the money you had gotten from the games to pay off your debts, and Gi-hun had offered to help you pay for everything until the baby is born and you're both able to work again (he didn't know it yet, but he had earned himself the title of godfather for that).
Dae-ho came over to your apartment every day for the past month and a half, making sure everything is ready for when the baby comes and keeping you from exerting yourself too much. You're sure he's spent more time at your apartment than at his.
Dae-ho had helped more than you could possibly thank him for. He and Jung-bae had built the crib for your baby, then broke it by "testing it out", then built a new one (why they thought it was a good idea for a full-grown man to get into a baby's crib, you have no idea).
You use the arm of the couch to help you stand up, waddling over to Dae-ho and taking his hands in yours. "Dae-ho, I don't think it's possible that you're forgetting anything," you chuckle. He opens his mouth to argue but you shush him, pulling him into a hug. "The only thing that matters is that you're with me when this baby comes."
He sighs, hugging you back. "I'm just so worried, I want to make sure everything goes right."
"I know," you rub his back. "But you need to calm down a bit. I think you're more worried about this than I am." You pull back to look at him, raising an eyebrow. "You know I have to push this thing out of me, right?"
He chuckles at the look on your face and pulls you to him, placing a gentle kiss on your lips and cradling you to his chest.
"I just need to make sure I didn't forget-"
"Dae-ho!"
<>
You're sitting on your couch watching TV with Dae-ho when you feel yourself sitting in something wet.
"Oh, for fuck's sake," you curse. This isn't the first time you've pissed yourself while pregnant, and although Dae-ho keeps assuring you that it's perfectly normal (he's seen it happen with his sisters), it doesn't make you feel any less disgusting.
Dae-ho helps you stand up, ready to take you to the bathroom when you stop. He looks to see you staring at the large wet patch on the couch.
"What's wrong?" he asks you.
You slowly look up at him with wide eyes. "I think my water broke."
Dae-ho's eyes grow comically wide. "Holy shit, it's happening."
You nod. "It's happening."
He helps you sit back down on the couch before sprinting into your bedroom. He comes out with your hospital bag slung over his shoulder, fully packed and ready to go. "I'm gonna bring the car around, I'll be right back."
You nod, breathing through another bought of pain that you now realize is a contraction. You had been feeling it for a while now, but just thought it was normal pregnancy pain.
Dae-ho comes bursting back into your apartment, nearly tripping over your rug as he comes over to help you stand.
"Okay, the car is out front, I'm probably parked illegally, so we should hurry," he says, rushing his words.
You try to hide your amused smile. Dae-ho is the perfect distraction from your contractions.
"Dae-ho, lock the door, please," you say when you're in the hallway.
He nods, getting the keys out of his pocket and dropping them on the floor. You chuckle as he yelps, scrambling to pick them up and fit the key in the lock. Once he's done he turns to you. "Stop laughing at me!"
You laugh harder at his expression. "I'm sorry, I can't help it."
His face softens as he hears your laugh, a smile forming on his lips. He pulls you close, planting a kiss on your forehead. "Let's go have this baby."
He leads you to the elevator, holding your hand as you descend to the first floor. Once you step outside you burst out laughing.
"Dae-ho, you're parked on the sidewalk!"
"I was panicking, okay!"
<>
"Dae-ho," you cry, "I don't think I can do this."
He squeezes your hand, not complaining despite the fact that you're nearly breaking his hand from how hard you're holding on to it. "Are you kidding? You flipped that ddakji on your first try with guns pointed at you. You were one of the first to finish red light, green light. You ran in Mingle despite being nearly seven months pregnant. This is nothing compared to all of that."
He brings his other hand up to brush some hair out of your face. "You are the strongest person I know. Just one more big push and it's done. You can do this."
"Dae-ho," you half scream, looking at him. "I love you."
He kisses your hand. "I love you too. So much. Now push."
You do as he says, screaming as you feel pain like you've never felt before. Until it's over, and the only sounds in the room are your panting and the crying of a baby.
"You did it," Dae-ho says in awe as he watches the doctors clean your baby.
"Congratulations," one of the doctors says to you with a smile as she holds your baby. "It's a girl."
She hands you your daughter and you feel yourself start to cry as you look down at the little baby in your arms.
Dae-ho sits on the bed, looking at the baby. "She's so beautiful."
You scootch over a bit in bed to make room for him to lay down next to you. After a long time of laying together in peaceful silence, you look at him with a tired smile. "Thank you for being here."
He smiles at you. "I wouldn't have missed the birth of your child for anything."
You take his hand, guiding it to cradle your daughter's head. "The birth of our child."
Tears form in his eyes as he smiles down at you, kissing your head. "I love you more than anything." He kisses your daughter's head as well. "Both of you."
A knock on the door gets your attention. "Let me in! I want to see the baby!" Jung-bae's voice yells into the room.
You look up at Dae-ho, confused. "She's been alive for like an hour, how is he here already?"
Dae-ho looks down at you a bit sheepishly. "I might have texted him earlier."
Another loud knock on the door is heard. "Let me in, I have balloons!"
<>
You groan as you wake up, a loud, shrill cry ringing throughout your apartment. This is the second time tonight that your daughter has woken up.
With a sigh, you dramatically throw the covers off of you, too tired to care how much of a mess you're making.
A hand holds your shoulder, and you turn your head to see Dae-ho, a yawn coming from him as he stretches his muscles. "I got it, go back to sleep."
You shake your head, a yawn of your own escaping your mouth. "No, you got the last one, it's my turn." You move to stand up, but Dae-ho tightens his grip on your shoulder, effectively keeping you in place.
"You carried her around for nine months and birthed her," Dae-ho says. "I got this."
You give the man next to you a sleepy smile. Normally you'd argue with him that it was only fair that you checked on her, but right now your bed is so comfortable and you haven't had a full night's sleep in months.
You mumble a thank you, falling back onto the bed and pulling the covers over you. Dae-ho laughs to himself when he sees that you've immediately fallen back asleep.
He walks to your daughter's room, picking her up from her crib and bouncing her. "Come one, Munchkin, we gotta let your mommy sleep."
As if she understands him, she quiets down, falling asleep with her head on his shoulder.
<>
"Hello! We're home!" Dae-ho announces as you walk through the door of your new home.
You smile as your daughter rounds the corner, crawling towards you as fast as her little arms and legs will let her go.
"Thank you so much for watching her, Geum-ja," you say to the woman walking behind your daughter, who has taken on the role of unofficial grandmother.
"Thank you for letting me watch her!" the woman smiles. "Yong-sik isn't having children any time soon, so this may be my only chance."
"Mom, stop," the mentioned man steps into view. You laugh as they bicker, Geum-ja lightly hitting her son.
You watch as Dae-ho crouches on the floor, opening his arms wide as your daughter crawls toward him. She takes her hands off the ground and you gasp, getting the attention of Geum-ja and Yong-sik. You watch in amazement as your daughter takes three steps before falling right into your boyfriend's arms.
Dae-ho lifts her up, a giant smile on his face. "That was amazing, Munchkin!"
You rub her back, praising her as Dae-ho kisses her cheek. Geum-ja and Yong-sik have stopped their bickering, both of them clapping for your daughter's accomplishment.
A thought comes into your head and you groan, resting your forehead on Dae-ho's shoulder.
"What?" he asks.
"She's gonna be a little menace now, isn't she?"
Dae-ho laughs, bringing one of his arms around your shoulders and kissing your forehead.
<>
"What is happening here?"
You stand in the doorway with your hands on your hips, a smile on your face.
"We're having a princess tea party," Dae-ho says. He points to the princess dress on your daughter, as well as the princess dress on himself, which is close to tearing in half. "Obviously." He picks up the toy tea kettle, pouring some imaginary tea into your daughter's cup before facing you. "Would you like some?"
This is not what you were expecting to see after work, but you can't think of a better scene to come home to.
"I would love some." You sit on the floor, picking up a teacup and holding it out for Dae-ho to pour "tea" into.
Your daughter holds her cup in front of her as well, looking at the man between you. "Dada!"
Both you and Dae-ho freeze. You watch with a smile as he looks down at your daughter, his entire face lighting up and tears welling in his eyes.
You put a hand on his shoulder, rubbing it happily. You've gotten a few "mama"s from your daughter before, but Dae-ho has never gotten a "dada" until now.
Dae-ho pours more imaginary tea into her cup, leaning down afterwards to give her a kiss on her forehead. "I love you, Munchkin."
<>
"Mama!"
You turn to see your daughter tottling towards you, a big smile on her face.
"Hi sweetie," you smile, crouching down to her height.
She grabs onto your finger, tugging on it to try and get you to follow her. You chuckle, allowing her to lead you out of the room, hunched over so she can still hold your finger.
You follow her to the backyard, furrowing your brows when you see that the back door is open. Stepping outside and closing it behind you, you look forward and freeze.
Your daughter runs over to Dae-ho, who's in the middle of your yard on one knee, a ring in his hand.
You bring your hand up to your mouth in shock, tears welling in your eyes.
"Two and a half years ago, I was in the worst place of my life. But it was when I was there that I met you," Dae-ho smiles. "You've changed my life in so many ways, brought me more happiness than I ever thought I could have. I love you and our Munchkin more than anything in the world. You've given me the family I've always wanted, but I think it's time we become an official family. Will you marry me?"
You nod your head, tears spilling over onto your cheeks.
Dae-ho stands and pulls you into a kiss, slipping the ring on your finger. He pulls back, resting his forehead against yours. "I love you so much. My beautiful fiancée."
You feel a tug on your leg and look down to see your daughter smiling up at you. Dae-ho crouches down, scooping her up into his arms and standing, bringing you into a hug. "How would you like to be the flower girl, Munchkin?"
<>
"You see, I told you she'd be happy to see you! You need to have more faith in yourself, Gi-hun," you say into the phone as you unlock your front door. The man had arrived in America the previous day, finally visiting his daughter after so many years.
You step inside your house, locking the door behind you and putting your keys on one of the hooks on the wall. As you enter the living room, you stop when you see what is happening on your couch.
"Gi-hun, I have to go, I'll call you later," you smile, hanging up the phone. You open your camera app, taking a picture of the perfect scene in front of you. The TV is turned on to one of your daughter's favorite movies. Your daughter, however, is passed out on the chest your husband, who is also fast asleep.
After you've taken a sufficient amount of photos, you gently shake Dae-ho awake. He blinks his eyes open, smiling tiredly when he sees you.
"Hi, beautiful," he says.
You chuckle at the sleep in his voice. "Hi. I see you had quite a tiring day today."
Dae-ho nods, rubbing his eyes awake. "We played pirates in the backyard, then we had a movie marathon. It was a very eventful day."
You smile, putting your hand on your daughter's back to lightly shake her awake.
She looks at you with a smile. "Hi mommy."
"Hi, sweetie. It's time to go to bed."
She frowns. "Can I sleep with you and daddy tonight?"
You roll your eyes playfully. "But sweetie, you just got your new big girl bed. Don't you want to sleep there?"
She shakes her head. "I want to stay with you and daddy."
You look at Dae-ho, chuckling when you see that he's also silently begging you to let her stay with you.
"Fine, but just for tonight," you give in, making both your daughter and your husband smile. You pick her up, sitting her on your hip. "It's not fair when you team up against me, you're both too cute."
Dae-ho stands from the couch, kissing the side of your head. "Now you know what it's like trying to argue with you."
<>
You hand your daughter the stick in your hand with a smile. "Go bring this to daddy."
With a nod, she runs off to find Dae-ho. You follow behind her, peeking your head around the corner when she goes into the kitchen where your husband is making dinner.
"Daddy!" she yells and you can hear the smile in her voice.
Dae-ho turns to face the young girl, a big smile on his face. "Hey, Munchkin." He scoops her into his arms, placing a kiss on her cheek.
Your daughter holds the stick out for Dae-ho. "For you, daddy."
You watch as he thanks her and looks at the stick. You feel your smile grow as he realizes what his daughter just handed him. He looks up, noticing you by the door.
"Is this real?"
"As real as it can possibly be," you say.
He sits your daughter down onto the counter, rushing over to pick you up in his arms, making you laugh. He twirls you around before putting you down and kissing you with all the love he feels in this moment.
"I love you so much," he says, his forehead against yours. He looks over to your daughter on the counter. "I love both of you." He then looks back down at you, gently putting his hand over your stomach. "All of you."

you and bf! katsuki waiting for the new year as the both of you stood on the balcony of your shared apartment, overlooking the city. the clock was ticking down to midnight, the fireworks had already begun sparking in the distance, their vibrant colors dancing against the dark sky.
you leaned against the railing, cheeks flushed from the cold. but honestly? maybe it was the way katsuki was looking at you out of the corner of his eye. he had one hand stuffed in his pocket while the other rested casually on the railing next to you, as if keeping you within reach.
“you know,” you began, voice soft but teasing. “i thought you’d have some grumpy commentary about all this.”
katsuki scoffed, rolling his eyes. “what do you want me to say, sweets? it’s just another night.”
“just another night?” you repeated, raising an eyebrow. “it’s almost the start of a whole new year, katsuki! new beginnings, resolutions, all that cheesy stuff. you know, what you want for the new year.”
“yeah, yeah,” he muttered, but his gaze softened as he looked at you. “i don’t need a new year to tell me what i want.”
your playful smile faltered slightly at the intensity in his tone, “oh? and what do you want, katsuki?”
but before katsuki could answer, the final countdown began, echoing from nearby apartments and the distant streets.
“ten… nine…”
you turned your attention to the sky, her excitement bubbling over, practically jumping up and down her spot. “10 seconds, bub!”
“eight… seven…”
katsuki didn’t take his eyes off you, watching the way your face lit up, your breath visible in the chilly air as he stepped closer to you.
“six… five…”
you glanced at him, catching the look in his eyes. your expression softened, smiling at him. “you’re not even watching the fireworks.”
“four… three…”
“don’t need to,” katsuki said simply, reaching out to gently tuck a strand of hair behind your ear.
“two… one…”
the city erupted in cheers, fireworks exploding in the sky in a dazzling display of light and sound. but you barely noticed because katsuki had cupped your face in his hands and kissed you, his lips warm and firm against you. you instantly melt in his arms, your hands resting on his chest.
it wasn’t rushed or frantic—it was slow, deliberate, and filled with everything he couldn’t put into words. the world seemed to fade away, the fireworks and cheers nothing more than background noise.
when the both of you finally pulled apart, your cheeks were even more flushed, smiling like a lovestruck idiot.
“happy new year, bub. i love you,” you whispered, chuckling breathlessly.
katsuki smiles softly, stroking your cheek. “happy new year, sweets. i love you more."
you smile gently, rising on your tiptoes to place a soft kiss on his cheek. your gaze briefly sweeps over the city before katsuki's voice catches your attention again.
"and sweets?"
"hm?"
"you're the only one i'll want."
you grinned, leaning into his chest as the fireworks continued to burst above them. and as you stood there together, katsuki couldn’t help but think that this was the perfect way to start the year—with you by his side.
