Edge – The Future of Interactive Entertainment magazine, issue #401 (October 2024 issue) – Dragon Age: The Veilguard story
The rest of this post is under a cut for length.
Update: this issue of this magazine is now available to buy from UK retailers today. it can be purchased online at [this link]. [Tweet from Edge Online] also, Kala found that a digital version of the magazine can be read at [this link].
This post is a word-for-word transcription of the full article on DA:TV in this issue of this magazine. DA:TV is the cover story of this issue. When transcribing, I tried to preserve as much of the formatting from the magazine as possible. Edge talked to BioWare devs for the creation of this article, so the article contains new quotes from the devs. the article is written by Jeremy Peel. There were no new screenshots or images from the game in the article. I also think that it contains a few lil bits of information that are new, like the bits on companions' availability and stumbling across the companions out and about on their own in the world e.g. finding Neve investigating an abduction case in Docktown.
tysm to @simpforsolas and their friend for kindly telling me about the article!!

Article introduction segment:
"[anecdote about Edge] We were reminded of this minuscule episode in Edge's history during the creation of this issue's cover story, in which we discuss the inspiration behind Dragon Age: The Veilguard with its creators at BioWare. Notably, director John Epler remembers the studio experimenting with a number of approaches during the early phase of development before eventually locking in to what the game was supposed to be all along, above all else: 'a single-player, story-focused RPG'. As you'd expect from BioWare, though, that was really just a starting point, as we discovered on p54." BioWare draws back the Veil and ushers us into a new Dragon Age
"BEHIND THE CURTAIN BioWare's first true RPG in age age is as streamlined and pacey as a dragon in flight. By Jeremy Peel Game Dragon Age: The Veilguard Developer BioWare Publisher EA Format PC, PS5, Xbox Series Origin Canada Release Autumn
The Dragon Age universe wasn't born from a big bang or the palm of an ancient god. Instead, it was created to solve a problem. BioWare was tired of battling Hasbro during the making of Baldur's Gate and Neverwinter Nights, and wanted a Dungeons & Dragons-like setting of its own. A small team was instructed to invent a new fantasy world in which the studio could continue its groundbreaking work in the field of western RPGs, free of constraints.
Well, almost free. BioWare's leaders mandated that the makers of this new world stick to Eurocentric fantasy, and include a fireball spell - since studio co-founder Ray Muzyka had a weakness for offensive magic.
Beyond that, BioWare’s storytellers were empowered to infuse Dragon Age with their own voices and influences, leaning away from D&D’s alignment chart and towards a moral grayness that left fans of A Song Of Ice And Fire feeling warm and cozy.
In the two decades since, the world of Thedas – rather infamously and amusingly, a shortening of ‘the Dragon Age setting’ that stuck – has taken on a distinct flavor. It’s something director John Epler believes is rooted in characters.
“There’s definitely some standard fantasy stuff in Dragon Age, but everything in the world, every force, is because of someone,” he says. “The idea is that every group and faction needs to be represented by a person – someone you can relate to. Big political forces are fine as background, but they don’t provide you with those interesting story moments.”
Dragon Age: The Veilguard bears out that philosophy. The long-awaited sequel was first announced with the subtitle Dreadwolf, in reference to its antagonist, Solas – an ancient elf who once stripped his people of immortality as punishment for betraying one of their own. In doing so, Solas created the Veil, the thin barrier through which wizards pull spirits and demons invade the waking world. In other words, many of Dragon Age’s defining features, from its downtrodden elves to the uneasy relationship between mages and a fearful church, can be traced right back to one character’s decision.
“The world exists as it does because of Solas,” Epler says. “He shaped the world because of the kind of character he was. That’s, to me, what makes Dragon Age so interesting. Everything can tie back to a person who to some degree thought they were doing the right thing.”
Perhaps BioWare’s greatest achievement in slowburn character development, Solas is a former companion, an unexploded bomb who sat in the starting party of Dragon Age: Inquisition, introverted and useful enough to get by without suspicion. Yet by the time credits rolled around on the Trespasser DLC, players were left in no doubt as to the threat he presented.
Determined to reverse the damage he once caused, the Dreadwolf intends to pull down the Veil, destroying Thedas as we know it in the process. The next Dragon Age game was always intended to be his story.
“We set that up at the end of Trespasser,” Epler says. “There was no world where we were ever going to say, ‘And now let’s go to something completely different.’ We wanted to pay off that promise.”
Yet almost everything else about the fourth Dragon Age appears to have been in flux at one time. In 2019, reporter Jason Schreier revealed that an early version, starring a group of spies pulling off heists in the Tevinter Imperium, had been cancelled two years prior. Most of its staff were apparently moved onto BioWare’s struggling Anthem, while a tiny team rebooted Dragon Age from scratch. That new game was said to experiment with live-service components.
“We tried a bunch of different ideas early on,” Epler says. “But the form The Veilguard has taken is, in a lot of ways, the form that we were always pushing towards. We were just trying different ways to get there. There was that moment where we really settled on, ‘This is a singleplayer, story-focused RPG – and that’s all it needs to be’”.
Epler imagines a block of marble, from which BioWare was attempting to carve an elephant – a character- and story-driven game. “We were chipping away, and sometimes it looked more like an elephant and sometimes it didn’t”, he says. “And then we eventually realized: ‘Just make an elephant’. When we got to that, it almost just took shape by itself.”
2014’s Dragon Age: Inquisition was an open-world game commonly criticized for a slow-paced starting area which distracted players from the thrust of the plot. The Veilguard, in contrast, is mission-based, constructed with tighter, bespoke environments designed around its main story and cast. “We wanted to build a crafted, curated experience for the player,” Epler says. “Pacing is important to us, and making sure that the story stays front and center.”
Epler is very proud of Inquisition, the game on which he graduated from cinematic designer to a lead role (for its DLC). “But one of the things that we ran into on that project was an absentee antagonist,” he says. “Corypheus showed up and then disappeared. You spent ten hours in the Hinterland doing sidequests, and there wasn’t that sense of urgency.”
This time, The Veilguard team wants you to constantly feel the sword of Damocles dangling above your head as you play – a sense that the end of the world is coming if you don’t act. “There’s still exploration – there’s still the ability to go into some of these larger spaces and go off the beaten path to do sidequests,” Epler says. “But there’s always something in the story propelling you and the action forward, and allowing you to make decisions with these characters where the stakes feel a lot more immediate and present. And also, honestly, more real.”
No sooner have you finished character creation than Dragon Age: The Veilguard thrusts you into a choice. As your protagonist, Rook, steps into focus on the doorstep of the seediest bar in town, you decide whether to threaten the owner for information or make a deal. Brawl or no, you’ll walk out minutes later with a lead: the location of a private investigator named Neve Gallus, who can help you track down Solas.
You proceed into Minrathous, the largest city in Thedas and capital of the Tevinter Imperium – a region only alluded to in other Dragon Age games. It’s a place built on the backs of slaves and great mages, resulting in tiered palaces and floating spires – a kind of architecture unimaginable to those in the southern nations.
“When your Dragon Age: Inquisition companion Dorian joins you in Orlais, in one of the biggest cities in Thedas, he mentions that it’s quaint and cute compared to Minrathous,” Corinne Busche, game director on The Veilguard, says. “That one bit of dialogue was our guiding principle on how to realize this city. It is sprawling. It is lived-in. Sometimes it’s grimy, sometimes it’s bougie. But it is expansive.”
Immediately, you can see the impact of BioWare’s decision to tighten its focus. Around every other corner in Minrathous is an exquisitely framed view, a level of spectacle you would never see in Inquisition, where resources were spread much more thinly. “When you know that you’re gonna be heading down a canyon or into this plaza where the buildings open up, you have those perfect spots to put a nice big temple of Andraste or a mage tower,” art director Matthew Rhodes says. “You get those opportunities to really hit that hard.”
BioWare’s intention is to make strong visual statements that deliver on decades of worldbuilding. “People who have a history with Dragon Age have thought about what Minrathous might be like,” Rhodes says. “We can never compete with their imagination, but we can aim for it like we’re shooting for the Moon.”
The people of Tevinter use magic as it if were electricity, as evidenced by the glowing sigils that adorn the dark buildings – street signs evoking Osaka’s riverfront or the LA of Blade Runner. They’re just one of the tricks BioWare’s art team uses to invite you to stop and take in the scene. “A lot of what you start to notice when you’re the artist who’s been working on these big, beautiful vistas and neat murals on the walls is how few players look up,” Rhodes says. “We design props and architecture that help lead the eyes.”
For the really dedicated shoegazers, BioWare has invested in ray-traced reflections, so that the neon signage can be appreciated in the puddles. There are also metal grates through which you can see the storm drains below. “The idea behind that is purely just to remind the player often of how stacked the city is,” Rhodes says. “Wherever you’re standing, there’s guaranteed to be more below you and above you.”
One of BioWare’s core creative principles for The Veilguard is to create a world that’s actually worth saving – somewhere you can imagine wanting to stick around in, once the crises of the main quest are over. To that end, the team has looked to ground its outlandish environments with elements of mundanity.
“A guy’s normal everyday life walking down the streets of this city is more spectacular than what the queen of Orlais is seeing, at least in terms of sheer scale," Rhodes says. “One of the things we’ve tried to strike a balance with is that this is actually still a place where people have to go to the market and buy bread, raise their kids, and try to make it. It’s a grand and magical city, but how do you get your horses from one place to the next? Where do you load the barrels for the tavern? It’s really fun to think of those things simultaneously.”
Normal life in Minrathous is not yours to behold for long, however. Within a couple of minutes of your arrival, the very air is ripped open like cheap drapes, and flaming demons clatter through the merchant carts that line the city streets. A terrible magical ritual, through which Solas intends to stitch together a new reality, has begun.
“We wanted the prologue to feel like the finale of any other game we’ve done,” Busche explains. “Where it puts you right into this media-res attack on a city and gets you really invested in the action and the story right away. When I think back to Inquisition, how the sky was literally tearing open – the impact of this ritual really makes that look like a minor inconvenience.”
Our hero is confronted by a Pride demon, imposing and armored as in previous games, yet accented by exposed, bright lines that seem to burst from its ribcage. “They are a creature of raw negative emotion,” Busche says. “So we wanted to actually incorporate that into their visual design with this glowing nervous system.”
When a pack of smaller demons blocks Rook’s route to the plaza where Neve was last seen, battle breaks out, and The Veilguard’s greatest divergence from previous Dragon Age games becomes apparent. Our rogue protagonist flits between targets up close and evades individual sword swings with precision. In the chaos, he swaps back and forth between blades and a bow. He blends light and heavy attacks, and takes advantage of any gap in the melee to charge up even bigger blows.
“Responsiveness was our first-and-foremost goal with this baseline layer of the combat system,” Busche says. Unless you’re activating a high-risk, high-reward ability such as a charged attack, any action can be animation-cancelled, allowing you to abort a sword swing and dive away if an enemy lunges too close. “We very much wanted you to feel like you exist in this space, as you’re going through these really crafted, hand-touched worlds,” Busche says. “That you’re on the ground in control of every action, every block, every dodge.” Anyone who’s ever bounced off a Soulslike needn’t worry: The Veilguard’s highly customizable difficulty settings enable you to loosen up parry windows if they prove too demanding.
Gone is the overhead tactical camera which, for some players, was a crucial point of connection between Dragon Age and the Baldur’s Gate games that came before, tapping into a lineage of thoughtful, tabletop-inspired combat. Epler points out that the camera’s prior inclusion had an enormous impact on where the game’s battles took place. “We actually had a mandate on Inquisition, which was, ‘Don’t fight inside,’” he says. “The amount of extra work on getting that tactical camera to work in a lot of those internal environments, it was very challenging.”
Gone, too, is the ability to steer your comrades directly. “On the experiential side, we wanted you to feel like you are Rook – you’re in this world, you’re really focused on your actions,” Busche says. “We very much wanted the companions to feel like they, as fully realized characters, are in control of their own actions. They make their own decisions. You, as the leader of this crew, can influence and direct and command them, but they are their own people.”
It's an idea with merit, albeit one that could be read as spin. “It’s not lost on me,” Busche says. “I will admit that, on paper, if you just read that you have no ability to control your companions, it might feel like something was taken away. But in our testing and validating with players, what we find is they’re more engaged than ever.”
There may be a couple of reasons for that. One is that Dragon Age’s newly dynamic action leaves little room for seconds spent swapping between perspectives. “This is a much higher actions-per-minute game,” Busche says. “It is more technically demanding on the player. So when we tried allowing you full control of your companions as well, what we’ve found is it wasn’t actually adding to the experience. In fact, in some ways it was detrimental, given the demanding nature of just controlling your own character.”
Then there’s The Veilguard’s own tactical layer, as described by BioWare. Though the fighting might be faster and lower, like a mana-fuelled sports scar, the studio is keen to stress that the pause button remains as important to the action as ever. This is, according to Busche, where the RPG depth shines through, as you evaluate the targets you’re facing and take their buffs into account: “Matching elemental types against weaknesses and resistances is a big key to success in this game.”
You pick between rogue, warrior and mage – each role later splitting again into deeper specialisms – and draw from a class-specific resource during fights. A rogue relies on Momentum, which is built up by avoiding damage and being highly aggressive, whereas a warrior is rewarded for blocking, parrying, and mitigating damage.
Those resources are then used on the ability wheel, which pauses the game and allows you to consider your options. The bottom quadrant of the wheel belongs to your character, and is where three primary abilities will be housed. “Rook will also have access to runes, which function as an ability, and a special ultimate ability,” Busche says. “So you’re bringing five distinct abilities with you into combat.”
The sections to the left and right of the wheel, meanwhile, are dedicated to your companions. Busche points to Lace Harding, the returning rogue from Inquisition, who is currently frozen mid-jump. “She is her own realized individual in this game. She’s got her own behaviors: how she prioritizes targets, whether she gets up close and draws aggro or stays farther back at range. But you’ll be able to direct her in combat by activating her abilities from the wheel.”
These abilities are complemented by positional options at the top of the wheel, where you can instruct your companions to focus their efforts on specific targets, either together or individually. Doing so will activate the various buffs, debuffs and damage enhancements inherent in their weapons and gear. “So,” Busche explains, “as you progress through the first two hours of the game, this full ability wheel is completely populated with a variety of options and different tactics that you can then string together.”
BioWare has leaned into combos. You might tell one companion to unleash a gravity-well effect that gathers enemies together, then have another slow time. Finally, you could drop an AOE attack on your clustered and slowed opponents, dealing maximum damage. The interface will let you know when an opportunity to blend two companion abilities emerges – moments BioWare has dubbed ‘combo detonations’.
“I like to think about this strategic layer to combat as a huddle,” Busche says, “where you’re figuring out how you want to handle the situation, based on the information you have on the encounter, and how you and your companions synergize together.”
Deeper into the game, as encounters get more challenging, Epler says we’ll be spending a lot of time making “very specific and very focused tactical decisions”. The proof will be in eating the Fereldan fluffy mackerel pudding, of course, but Busche insists this shift to fast action isn’t a simplification. “What really makes the combat system and indeed the extension into the progression system work is that pause-and-play tactical element that we know our players expect.”
The autonomy of The Veilguard’s companions doesn’t end with combat. BioWare’s data shows that in previous games players tended to stick with the same two or three beloved comrades during a playthrough. This time, however, you’ll be forced to mix your squad up at regular intervals.
“We do expect that players will have favorites they typically want to adventure with,” Busche says, “but sometimes certain companions will be mandatory.” Others may not always be available – part of the studio’s effort to convince with three-dimensional characters. “They do have a life outside of Rook, the main character,” Busche says.
"They'll fall in love with people in this world. They’ve had past experiences they’ll share with you if you allow them in and get close to them.”
Being separated from your companions, rather than collecting them all in a kind of stasis at camp, allows you to stumble across them unexpectedly. Busche describes an instance in which, while exploring the Docktown section of Minrathous, you might bump into Neve as she investigates an abduction case. “If I go and interact with her, I can actually stop what I’m doing, pick up her arc and adventure with her throughout her part of the story,” Busche says. “What’s interesting is that all of the companion arcs do ultimately tie back to the themes of the main critical path, but they also have their own unique challenges and villains, and take place over the course of many different intimate moments.”
Some parts of a companion’s quest arc involve combat, while others don’t. Some are made up of large and meaningful missions – as lavish and involved as those along the critical path. “While they are optional, I would be hesitant to call them side content in this game,” Busche says. If you choose not to engage with some of these companion-centered events, they’ll resolve on their own. “And it might have interesting implications.”
The Veilguard promises plenty of change, then, even as it picks up the threads of fan-favorite characters and deepens them, honoring the decades of worldbuilding that came before it. This is perhaps the enduring and alluring paradox of Dragon Age: a beloved series which has never had a direct and immediate sequel, nor a recurring protagonist. Instead, it’s been reinvented with each new entry.
“It’s a mixed blessing to some degree,” Epler says. “The upside is always that it gives us more room to experiment and to try new things. There are parts of the series that are common to every game: it’s always an RPG, it’s always about characters, and we always want to have that strategic tactical combat where you’re forced to make challenging decisions. But at the end of the day, I think what makes Dragon Age Dragon Age is that each one feels a little bit different.”"
Q&A Matthew Rhodes Art director
Q. Early BioWare RPGs were literary, with the emotions and detail mostly happening in dialogue boxes. How have you seen the studio's approach to visual storytelling evolve? A. This has been my entire career. When I first showed up at BioWare, it was at the tail end of Jade Empire, and then I was working on Dragon Age: Origins and early Mass Effect. The games had taken that next step out of sprites and 2D models, and it was like: 'How do we say more? How do we communicate more clearly?' During those early days, a lot of games depended on words to fix everything for you. As long as your character was talking bombastically, you could lend them everything that they needed. But as time went on it also became a visual medium, and it's been this long journey of trying to establish art's seat at the table. I've worked with some great writers over the years, and art is also an essential part of the storytelling. From Dragon Age: Inquisition on, I've been trying to stress with my teams that we are a story department.
Q. Is part of that also letting writers know that your storytelling assistance is available, to help them show rather than tell? A. On The Veilguard, that principle has been operating the best I've seen it. Where you would need a paragraph of dialogue in one of those exposition moments where a character just talks to you, we could sell that with a broken statue or a skeleton overgrown with vines. We've had more opportunities to do that on The Veilguard than most of the projects I've ever worked on combined.
To a hammer, every problem looks like a nail, and so in every department, writing will try to solve it with more words, and art will try to solve it with more art. I've bumped up against moments where it's like, 'As much as we could keep hammering on this design, I think this is actually an audio solution.' And then you take it to audio, and you don't get that overcooked feeling where each team is just trying to solve it in their silo. It's a really creatively charged kind of environment.

"RATIONAL ANTHEM The hard lesson BioWare drew from Anthem was to play to its strengths. “We’re a studio that has always been built around digging deep on storytelling and roleplaying,” Epler says. “I’m proud of a lot of things on Anthem – I was on that project for a year and a half. But at the end of the day we were building a game focused on something we were not necessarily as proficient at. For me and for the team, the biggest lesson was to know what you’re good at and then double down on it. Don’t spread yourselves too thin. Don’t try to do a bunch of different things you don’t have the expertise to do. A lot of the people on this team came here to build a story-focused, singleplayer RPG."

"MEET YOUR MAKER “Full disclosure: Dragon Age has traditionally not done skin tones well, especially for people of color,” Busche says. “We wanted to do a make-good here.” In The Veilguard’s character creator, you can adjust the amount of melanin that comes through in the skin, as well as test various lighting scenarios to ensure your protagonist looks exactly as you intend in cutscenes. “Speaking of our first creative principle – be who you want to be – we really feel these are the kinds of features that unlock that for our players,” Busche says. “We want everyone to be able to see themselves in this game.” For the first time in the series, your body type is fully customizable too, with animations, armor and even romantic scenes reflecting your choices."

this is a repost from my old blog. original post was 408 notes.
pairing(s): young!remus lupin x reader
words: 506
warnings/tags: established relationship, one (small) sexual innuendo but completely a sfw work!
“how about a high five every time you finish a topic?” remus had used his umpteenth suggestion, causing you to pull yet another disapproving expression while replying, “i think i’ll pass, that’s not even remotely motivating for a full topic’s worth.”
remus sighs, moving from resting on his knees to sit down as you rest your head against the tree trunk, notes sprawled over the grass and hiding from the bright sky as you regret your decision in going outside of hogwarts in hope that a summers day might help cure your procrastination.
it only made it worse. and now your boyfriend, remus, tried his best to motivate you into studying, knowing you would be annoyed with yourself later on if you didn’t.
“fine, how about… i remove an article of clothing every topic you study?” you snort at his suggestion, “and you class that as a motivation?” you tease with a grin as he gazes at you with faux annoyance, “i don’t want to look over the entirety of the cruiciatus curse for one of your socks, that’s just offending my ability to learn.”
“fair enough,” replies remus as he looks down from the hill they were atop of, gazing at the water from afar and the hills of scotland covering the castle for miles before shrugging. “have you got any brilliant ideas?” he asks and you shake your head.
he lets out a humph as he moves forward to rest on top of you, head against your stomach as he lies in-between your legs. his palms slithering under you to rest flat against your back as the warm heat of the sun and each other could dangerously send you both to sleep.
“what about a kiss every-time?” he murmurs against your shirt, head facing the side as he watches the landscape, his fingers slightly scratching the material by your back in an attempt to soothe you. “per topic?” you ask.
he hums, “well, maybe once every ten minutes of studying?” he offers, “this reasoning you’re willing to negotiate? i wonder why.” you giggle against him as you reach over to grab a textbook, trying to not move too much with the boy resting against you.
“yes, you’re right. ten minutes isn’t enough, maybe a kiss per sentence you write,” remus continues with a small yawn afterwards, head moving to look up to you. “remus—” you cut yourself off with a laugh.
“what?”, “we’d be here all night if it was every sentence,” you reply, one hand instinctively moving to his heavy locks of hair to thread your fingers through. he leans up to peck your lips before closing his eyes and resting against your middle.
“fine, one kiss per word will suffice,” he murmurs, causing you to continue laughing as you nudge his shoulder. he chuckles, moving his face to press lazy kisses against your shirt as you begin to read your textbook, “as much as it would motivate me, no work would be getting done.”
“i’m willing to take the chance, lovey.”

Perv!LevixNB!MC
Creep!
4.1 k words, 18+ MDNI, thanks <3
(Includes mentions of masturbation, Levi being a clothes thief, blow jobs, hand jobs, kissing, degradation, swearing, Levi humiliation)
MC had recently noticed a vaguely concerning trend whenever they did their laundry. Without fail, every week, one or two pairs of their underwear would disappear from their load of clothes. While it had originally concerned them, they would appear the next time they washed clothes replacing the new ones that would disappear next. This went on for about a month before one fateful day. The human was in their room folding the last of their laundry when they realized they had a few articles of clothes that belonged to someone else in the house. In fact, they had some type of clothing from every brother that they needed to return. After wandering around the giant, old house and returning almost every piece of clothing to their respective owners, they only had one more place to go. MC knocked on the door of the third eldest of their seven demonic roommates, and surprisingly, there was no answer. Odd. They looked around and noticed Satan walking towards his room with several books tucked under his arm.
"Hey, Tan? Do you know if Levi's in his room." They asked. Satan thought for a moment before replying, not stopping his stride.
"I believe so, MC. I didn't see him in the kitchen or leaving and it's not like he'd willingly be many other places." He said matter-of-factly, only stopping when he reached his door.
"Oh, thanks." MC responded. The blond haired man muttered a 'no problem' and disappeared into the cave of literature he called his room. MC knocked on Levi's door once a bit harder and waited once more. Yet again, no answer. Maybe he wasn't there after all. No matter; MC tried the door nob, and surprisingly it was unlocked. They shrugged and went in and closed the door behind them.
Levi was slouched in his bathtub with his headphones on and something pressed to his face. MC didn't think about it too deeply, and called out once more before approaching.
"Levi, I'm giving back your shirt." They said. He still didn't even look up despite him obviously being awake. They could see him moving. MC didn't realize what was going on until they were standing right next to his tub. There, the avatar of envy was; his pants around his thighs, one hand working his cocks, and his phone was playing some hentai with a character that looked suspiciously familiar. Levi rolled his head back with lidded eyes as a small moan escaped his lips. Almost as soon as he did that, he saw MC standing there and his flushed, and lust-filled expression turned to one of mortification.
"MC!" Levi yelled in shock and tried to cover himself while MC averted their eyes.
"Sorry! Sorry! I'm so sorry! I just wanted to give you back your shirt and the door wasn't locked!" MC explained themself feeling a bit bad catching him like that. Levi tossed off his headphones, and covered his face forgetting the purple fabric in his hand. MC looked back at Levi to hand him his shirt, but seeing what was in his hand more clearly made all of the embarrassment turn to surprise and slight disgust.
"Are those my underwear?!" MC asked. Confusion flashed across Levi's face, before his face practically glowed bright and deep in scarlet.
"... N-no?" The demon's voice wavered in an obvious lie, but he barely attempted to even hide them.
"Yes they are! Those are the ones that disappeared!" A beat passed before all of the pieces finally clicked into place before an expression made up of confusion and slight anger wrapped in a thin veil of disgust and intrigue. "Were you jerking off with my underwear?" MC's asked. Levi's stunned silence spoke way more than anything he could say in the moment. Despite that, he still tried to bumble his way through an explanation.
"MC I- I... I didn't mean- no listen- I'm- you weren't supposed to- ugh!" Levi babbled looking for any excuse or reason that would explain away what he had been caught doing; he only stopped and frowned when he saw how irritated MC looked. "I'm sorry." He apologized and hung his head holding out the pair of underwear that was just being used in such a downright perverted act. MC traded the clothes and saw the other pair on the floor. They picked those up too, and turned to leave.
"That's so fucking gross." MC mumbled in - what they thought was - a low voice, but Levi heard and looked up frantically and asked one more thing before it was too late. If he didn't ask now, it would eat him alive.
"MC, I really am sorry. I promise I'll never do it again. Please don't hate me." Levi's voice was desperate and dripping with emotion, mere moments from crying. MC stopped and turned to face him so he could see their face.
"Levi," MC started in a tired tone. They pinched the bridge of their nose and let out a sigh before continuing to speak. "No, I don't hate you. I could actually never hate you. Just please, don't do that again. It's fucking weird if not creepy." They said. Relief washed over Levi's face, and MC left the demon's room. They shook their head and made sure to never tell anyone about this to preserve Levi's limited reputation amongst his brothers.
*.*.*.*.*.
It had been a few weeks since MC and Levi's... debacle and things were mostly back to normal. MC's underwear stopped disappearing from their laundry and MC never told anyone what happened. Things were fine and dandy. However, all good things must come to an end.
One Friday, MC had a spill in their spells class and was excused to go home. Thank Diavolo it was their last class! They went back to the House of Lamentation and took a nice hot shower in Asmo's bathroom then went back down to their room. They kicked the door closed, but missed when it didn't close entirely leaving just a bit of space. MC took their time taking care of their skin and making sure none of the ingredients from whatever potion they were making didn't have an adverse reaction on their skin. They had been standing in only their underwear in the mirror checking their abdomen for any abrasions or effects from the potion when something caught the corner of their eye.
The first thing they noticed was that their door actually didn't close like they thought it had. The second thing was pale skin and purple hair. This fucking pervert! Clearly, he needed another talking-to because there would not be a third time. MC pretended to not see Leviathan watching through the crack in the door, and quickly finished making sure their skin was fine. As they reached for their tank top, they quietly cast an enchantment that pulled Levi into their room and locked the door behind him. He let out a yelp as he barreled in and took a moment to realize the gravity of the situation. He had been caught. MC marched up to him, not really caring about being in a tank top and underwear, with their arms crossed and an expression of annoyance with a hint of disgust.
"Leviathan," MC said coldly. The demon almost physically recoiled at the use of his full name. MC never used any of the brother's full names unless they were really upset or in a professional setting. If the brothers didn't know if MC was mad at one of them, they'd ask a question and see if MC answered with their nickname or their full name.
"Fuck, I'm so sorry! It's not what you think! I swear!" Levi tried
"What is it then, because I think you were spying on me while I was changing like a fucking perv!" The human accused.
"No! I was going in the kitchen and I saw that your door was kinda open and I was just gonna see if you were in here and you were changing and-" Levi's pleas were cut off by MC.
"Bullshit. First you steal my underwear to jerk off to," MC started and got closer with every word. "And now you watch me through a crack in my door expecting me not to see you? And now that you're caught, you beg for forgiveness?" MC started to get more annoyed than angry, but still jabbed a finger into Levi's chest to emphasize their point.
"MC please, I swear I didn't mean to watch you, I meant to go in the kitchen." Levi tried again. MC rolled their eyes and stepped even closer.
"The kitchen is on the other side of the hallway. Do you just like being a pervert or something, Leviathan?" MC's tone was accusing and despite them being a bit shorter than Levi, their presence was immense. So immense, that Levi had unknowingly backed up until the back of his legs hit the edge of MC's bed. He wasn't scared of any harm, but he was afraid they would tell his brothers. A deep, hot, red spread across his face and up to his ears at the thought.
"Please, I would never lie to you. I-" Levi's words were cut off by someone knocking on MC's door. Both of them fell quiet to listen for whatever would come next.
"MC, we're home!" Mammon's voice called to the human through the door. "Oh, and don't forget ya said you'd go out with me an' Asmo if that potion didn't mess with ya!" He finished.
"Thanks, Mam. I'll be ready in a bit." MC called back and waited about 5 seconds before pointing their gaze back to Levi who hadn't taken his worried eyes off of the human. MC sighed before speaking again to the purple haired demon in front of them. "If I catch you doing this perv shit again, I'm telling Lucifer. Get out."
For a moment, Levi's eyes widened and they fell to the floor. He shifted oddly visibly stalling which only made MC roll their eyes and stare at him. He started to open his mouth to say something but closed it back. He floundered like a fish before finally, some words came out of him.
"I-I... can't..." He mumbled the rest of the sentence.
"You can't what?" MC asked sharply. The anger faded away from their voice and it was just left with disappointment.
"... I can't... leave yet..." The blush on his face deepened at the admission. MC raised one of their eyebrows in confusion.
"Why? You wanna perv on me some more? Quite frankly, if that's the reason, then I repeat: leave. Respectfully of course." MC responded somewhat sarcastically, lightly sniggering at his red face. That's when they noticed Levi's pale skin turning impossibly redder.
"U-umm. I-" Levi tried to adjust his shirt watching MC's eyes dart all over him. Then it finally hit the human why he was acting like this. They looked down just briefly enough to see the obvious tent in Levi's black pants.
"What the fuck, perv! How long were you watching me? Was that all you were even doing?" MC fired off rapidly.
"No! I wasn't looking long! A-and of course!" Levi said. Something in his voice made MC think he was lying.
"Leviathan, if you lie to me one more time... " MC said and got impossibly closer to Levi making him fall back onto the bed he was against. Now, MC stood above Levi in an almost intimidating way. They were still only in a t-shirt and underwear, but didn't care that much; Levi however, did care as this whole situation was... less than ideal for him. Everything about MC was attractive to him and it didn't help that they kept degrading him and calling him a perv. Their lack of clothing also didn't help the way he was feeling.
"Okay, okay. I-I may have been looking for a little longer than I said... but I swear that's all I was doing." Levi looked down in shame as he admitted his transgression.
"That's disgusting and perv-ish. What, is this some freaky little fantasy or something? You get off to knowing that I don't know what you're doing? That you're sneaking around hoping to get a glimpse?" MC asked almost condescendingly. The situation was getting overwhelming for Levi as MC degraded him. If this didn't stop, he would definitely embarrass himself.
"MC, please stop. I get it. I'm gross and I shouldn't have done it. I'm sorry. Please stop." Levi said not looking MC in the eye. He shifted again to try to hide his growing... embarrassment.
"Do you really think you're in a position to request anything right now?" They asked.
"Look, I know. I know everything. I'm gross and what I did was perverted, but please stop calling me... names. I won't do it again." Levi's face only burned more in embarrassment.
"Why? Unless you have a good reason, I'm going to fucking chew you out." MC crossed their arms once again and jutted their hip out. The movement made their t-shirt ride a bit. That was too much. Levi had to bite his lip to keep his composure. He couldn't take this.
"MC, I know what I did was gross, but please. You're not helping the situation by talking down to me." Levi said desperately. "You're only turning me on." He mumbled under his breath. The demon thought MC didn't hear him, but he was incredibly wrong. MC kind've already knew, but hearing it from Levi's mouth actually took them aback. So much so that they started laughing.
"Oh my Diavolo, you've really got to learn how to whisper." They said between fits of laughter. Levi's head snapped up to Look at MC in confusion, then mortification. They laughed at him a bit more, then gathered their composure. "You know what? Just get out. I don't even wanna yell at you anymore."
"W-wait, my brothers are home." Levi said slightly worried.
"I know?" MC answered in a tone that said 'no shit, Sherlock'.
"Please don't make me go out there with them. They'll eat me alive and I'll never hear the end of it. I can already hear Satan and Belphie laughing at me for leaving your room with a- ... like this." His blush spread from his face down his neck. Thought it wasn't hiding much, Levi moved his shirt to the side. Lo and behold, two tents in his gray sweats.
"How's that my problem?" MC asked backing up a bit to give him some space.
"Please help me?" Levi asked and gave an unsure smile to convince (?) them. Fuck. On one hand, Levi had been perving on MC. He had stolen MC's underwear and watched them change through a crack in the door. On the other hand, it was Levi, their favorite weeb in the entire Devildom if not all three worlds. They contemplated a bit longer before coming to a conclusion. Fuuuuck. Only one thing went through MC's pretty head as they rolled their eyes: I'm gonna regret this.
"Fine." MC said.
"F-fine?" Levi's eyes went wide and he made eye contact with MC for the first time in a while.
"Yeah, fine. However, my help comes with conditions." MC asked getting close once again. This time though, they put their face close to his.
"Okay." He rushed out, once again beet red.
"If you ever, and I mean ever do this perverted shit again, I'm telling all of your brothers, and I'm going to curse you. Do you understand the words coming out of my mouth?" MC asked in a sickly sweet voice; though their tone was 'happy' their words were a threat.
"I understand." Levi said almost breathless. His eyes scanned MC's face for any hint that they were joking about anything they had said, but found absolutely nothing. They were completely serious.
"Good." MC said shortly then grabbed the collar of his shirt and pulled him to mere centimeters from their face. Levi's eyes fell to MC's lips, and he watched them form an exasperated smirk before speaking once more. "God, you're so lucky you're you." MC said before pulling him by his shirt into a kiss. Levi all but melted against MC's lips as cliche as it was. He moved his hands to place them on MC's waist, but the touch was met with MC putting their hand not holding his shirt on his throat and them pulling away slightly.
"Keep your hands to yourself. You're still a fucking perv. You don't get to touch me." MC said. The demon moved his hands back down to the bed on either side of him, and MC continued to kiss him. The human took their hand from Levi's shirt and placed it on the bed next to him, leaning in even more; at the same time, MC pushed their knee into Levi's crotch making him moan softly into their mouth, and get harder. Lost in the moment with his cocks twitching, he absentmindedly started grinding against MC's knee. They squeezed his neck just a bit eliciting a breathy moan from the purple haired man.
MC pulled away and instead kissed from the corner of his mouth, his cheek, his jaw, his neck, and lower. They moved their hands so the on on Levi's throat as now on the side of his face, and the other pressed against his dicks over his pants. He sucked in a gasp that quickly turned into a shaky moan into MC's ear. The mixture of the sound and heat from his breath against their skin made goosebumps erupt all across their skin. They made their way to his collar, right above the neckline of his shirt, and kissed him gently. Levi's hands started gripping MC's blanket softly, since he wasn't allowed to touch the human he had thought about whenever he had... snuck... MC's underwear. MC pulled away from Levi completely, yet Levi's eyes seemed glued to the human. They lifted the front of his shirt and rolled it up and placed it in his mouth so it exposed his entire chest and stomach. The scene was gorgeous; Levi's face was a shade of rose, his stomach hid the abs MC knew he had just as his arms hid the firm biceps that could be seen when he lifted something heavy or flexed, and the tint in his pants that his cocks were almost poking out of his waistband.
"Look at you," MC started. Their voice was slightly condescending, but Levi didn't mind. "You look so pathetic sitting there exposed. All hard and blushing. Why don't I expose you more?" MC questioned rhetorically. They pulled down the waistband on his pants just enough for his cocks and his balls to be taken out, after, they backed up to admire their work. They didn't look long before sinking to their knees and starting to slowly pump both cocks in one hand. The demon moaned softly into the fabric in his mouth, his breath only hitching when MC let saliva drip from their tongue to his skin. After barely any time, MC had one dick in their mouth and the other still in their hand. A mixture of muffled gasps, moans, groans, and swears leaked out of Levi's pretty mouth as the fabric slowly became darker with saliva.
MC bobbed their head up and down slowly, keeping the same pace with their hand and watching Levi's flushed face. His eyes fluttered halfway between open and shut, and his hinds continued to grip the blankets harder every time a wave of pleasure hit him and MC's hot spit dripped messily down his cock. After a short while, they switched to suck the other dick, leaving the first soaked in spit and precum. It dripped down on and past his balls, and collected on the hem on his black pants. This went on for a little while before MC noticed how uneven his breathing became and figured he was about to cum. They pulled off of him and wiped their lip as Levi let out a noise of disappointment around the fabric, and his hips moved in a feeble attempt to get more friction.
"Nuh-uh. You cum when I say you cum. It's the least you can do to make it up to me, creep." MC stood and moved between Levi's legs to look down at him. As the two looked into one another's eyes, MC could have sworn there was a very faint heart shape in Levi's eyes; then again, maybe it was just the lust talking. Either way, they wanted to kiss him again. MC pulled the wet shirt from Levi's mouth and pulled it behind his head, so that the only thing keeping it on him was the sleeves his arms were still in. They cupped his face in both hands while they kissed him briefly, before kissing down his neck once more. This time, they kissed down his chest, stopping to lick and suck on his nipples. Levi's head lulled back lightly as small moans leaked from his mouth and small beads of sweat form on Levi's pale skin. In a small flash of purple and orange light, Levi had transformed into his demon form.
His coral-like horns and snake-like tail had always fascinated MC. Maybe under different circumstances they'd pay more attention to them, but for now, MC gingerly ran a finger over Levi's horns making him shudder out a moan. Levi's tail slithered up MC's leg; the rough scales get rather close to their hip, but MC once again had to remind him why this was even happening in the first place.
"Don't touch me," MC reminded in a sickly sweet sing-song voice.
"Ah, fuck. Sorry, MC." Levi apologized. He moved his tail off of MC and instead wrapped it loosely around his own leg. An idea popped into MC's head and they fought off a grin.
"You know what? Don't even look at me." They said and climbed onto their bed behind Levi and got close. They ran their hands over Levi's sides, letting their nails run lightly over his skin before they slid a hand up his throat and rested it on his mouth. They pulled him so his back was against his chest, and began stroking his dicks again. Levi's body relaxed as he gave into pleasure again. MC bit Levi's jaw, not hard enough to leave a mark, but hard enough to make him gasp lightly. He mumbled some moan against MC's hand, but MC didn't care what he had to say in the moment. They stopped, only to spit into their hand, then continued faster, taking him to the edge. MC bit right below Levi's ear, before speaking through his muffled moans.
"Have we learned our lesson?" MC asked in yet another sickly sweet tone and moved their hand to his throat. The condescension dripped from their voice like venom from a snake's fangs; it was utterly intoxicating.
"Yes." Levi moaned out hoarsely almost in a trance.
"And we won't ever do this again?" MC asked once more in the same cotton candy-esque tone.
"No." He rushed out and inhaled quickly. Levi was so close, his eyes were closed. his hips bucked and jerked as the knot in his lower stomach tightened. MC placed their hand back on Levi's mouth and uttered one more small phrase that made Levi go crazy. Not on purpose, but it did anyway.
"Good boy." MC's tone wasn't condescending nor sarcastic, it was rather sharp and precise. Though to Levi, that didn't matter. His eyes rolled back and his hips bucked once more as hot white cum shot from his cocks. His rather loud moan was caught in MC's hand. The sticky white fluid landed on Levi's pants along with the precum and saliva from earlier. The black fabric of his sweat pants were a disgusting, humiliating mess. MC got up from their bed, and walked over to their dresser calmly, taking out a pair of their own sweatpants and tossing them beside Levi. When he caught his breath and his body had stopped pulsating, he glanced down at himself seeing the mess on his clothes. "Put those on. They better be back in my room when I get back." MC commanded and began to go through their clothes to another outfit. The two were silent as Levi wordlessly changed his soiled pants for the clean ones.
"Thank you, MC. I'm sorry for everything." Levi mumbled as he walked toward their door. MC undid their spell, turned to face him before, and called out.
"Hey," Levi turned his attention to the human. "Stop being such a fucking creep. If you want something, ask for it like an adult." Though MC's words weren't the nicest, they were genuine and that's all Levi really cared about. The purple haired demon smiled at MC softly, balled up his pants under his arm, and left. Luckily, none of his brothers were in the halls, and no one, not even Henry 2.0 found out about Levi's -admittedly short lived- perverted escapades.

summary: Lila and Nico never really saw eye-to-eye, but all of that changed after a bet...
wc: 3.7k
The coffee shop was a hum of quiet chatter and the occasional hiss of the espresso machine. Lila Castellanos sat in her favorite corner booth, laptop open, scrolling through the latest sports articles. She was deep in thought, her dark hair pulled back in a sleek ponytail that swayed slightly as she nodded along to the words on her screen. The scent of freshly baked pastries filled the air, mingling with the aroma of dark roast coffee. The bell above the door jingled, snapping her out of her focus.
In walked Nico Hischier, the captain of the New Jersey Devils, looking every bit the pro athlete in his casual gear. His eyes scanned the room until they met hers. Lila felt a jolt of both excitement and annoyance at the sight of him. They had a history of rivalry, both on and off the ice. Despite her better judgment, she couldn't help but admire his strong jawline and the way his sweatshirt clung to his broad shoulders. The tension between them was palpable, a silent battle of wills as they both pretended not to notice each other.
Nico approached the counter and ordered a black coffee. His Swiss accent was subtle but noticeable, a hint of his origins that always made Lila's heart flutter. As he waited, he glanced over at her, their eyes locking for a brief moment. Lila felt the heat rise to her cheeks and quickly turned back to her screen, pretending to be engrossed in her work. The barista called out his order, and the sound of the porcelain cup hitting the saucer was like a starting gun.
With his coffee in hand, Nico made his way over to her table, his movements fluid and deliberate. He set the cup down across from her with a cocky smile. "Mind if I join you?" he asked, his tone light yet challenging.
Lila's eyes narrowed, but she gestured to the seat with a flick of her hand. "Be my guest," she said, her voice calm. Inside, she was a whirlwind of conflicting emotions. She had spent countless hours crafting social media posts that subtly poked fun at his team, and he had retaliated with his own brand of good-natured ribbing on his own platform.
Nico slid into the booth, his tall frame fitting surprisingly well into the space. He took a sip of his coffee, watching her over the rim of his cup. "I noticed you weren't at the last game," he said, his eyes sparkling with curiosity.
Lila's hand hovered over her keyboard. "Yeah, had some work to catch up on," she replied nonchalantly, hoping he wouldn't see the lie. The truth was she had been nursing a cold and didn't want to admit to missing a single match, especially not to him.
Nico leaned back, his gaze never leaving hers. "Ah, too bad. It was quite the show." His voice was warm, with a hint of tease. Lila felt her annoyance growing. She didn't need a recap from the enemy, especially when the Hurricanes had won. But she couldn't resist. "How did your team fare?" she asked, a smirk playing on her lips.
He chuckled. "Not as well as we'd like. But we're working on it." His eyes searched hers, and she saw the competitive fire flicker. They both knew it was more than just a game; it was a battle of pride. The silence grew thick as they both sipped their coffee, the steam rising to create a momentary barrier between them.
Lila felt a strange pull toward Nico, a blend of attraction and challenge that she hadn't experienced with anyone else. His confidence was like a magnet, drawing her in despite her best efforts to resist. She took in his features: the crinkles around his eyes when he smiled, the way his dark hair fell slightly over his forehead, the strong line of his jaw. She realized she was staring and quickly averted her gaze, focusing instead on the screen of her laptop.
"So, Lila," Nico began, breaking the silence, "I've noticed your… creative flair for social media. You've got a way with words." His tone was light, but the underlying message was clear: he'd seen her snarky posts about the Devils.
She raised an eyebrow, ready to defend her work. "What can I say? I call 'em like I see 'em," she quipped, her voice filled with more bravado than she felt.
Nico leaned in, his smile turning into a grin. "Is that so?" He took out his phone and scrolled through the Devils' social media feed, pulling up a particularly cheeky post from Lila. "I see you've had some fun at our expense."
Lila felt a twinge of guilt but held her ground. "Just doing my job," she said with a shrug. "Keeping the fans entertained."
Nico's grin widened. "I can see that. But maybe it's time we turn the tables." He tapped the screen of her laptop, drawing her attention to an article detailing the Hurricanes' recent winning streak. "How about a little wager?"
Her pulse quickened at the prospect. "What did you have in mind?"
"If the Devils win the next game," Nico began, his eyes gleaming with mischief, "you have to post something nice about us on the Hurricanes' official account."
Lila's competitive spirit flared. "And if the Hurricanes win?"
Nico's eyes searched hers for a moment before he spoke. "If the 'Canes win, I'll take you out for dinner. Anywhere you want."
The challenge in his voice was unmistakable, and Lila felt a thrill at the idea of besting him. She took a deep breath, considering the stakes. "Alright," she said, extending her hand. "You've got yourself a bet."
Nico's handshake was firm and warm, sending a shiver down her spine. He nodded, his eyes holding hers for a beat longer than necessary. "Looking forward to it," he murmured, the corner of his mouth quirking up.
The days leading up to the game were a whirlwind of anticipation. Lila found herself checking the Devils' stats and news more often than she cared to admit. Nico's face kept popping up in her thoughts, a constant reminder of their bet. She crafted a few potential posts in her mind, ready for either outcome, her heart racing at the thought of what a win would mean for both her and the team.
On the night of the game, Lila was in the stands, her heart in her throat as the teams took to the ice. She watched as Nico skated out for the opening face-off, his eyes scanning the crowd until they found hers. He gave a slight nod, the corners of his mouth twitching upward in a knowing smile. The tension between them was like a live wire, crackling with energy.
The game was a nail-biter, each team giving their all, trading goals and penalties. The atmosphere in the arena was electric, the fans on their feet, shouting and cheering. Lila's hands were clenched tightly around her coffee, her nails digging into the cardboard cup. The score remained tied until the final minutes of the third period.
As the clock ticked down, Nico made a break for the Hurricanes' net, dodging players with a grace that seemed almost unnatural. Lila held her breath, her heart pounding in her chest. The puck was on his stick, the goalie braced for impact, and then—a whirlwind of motion. The puck flew through the air and smacked against the crossbar.
The crowd groaned, and Lila felt a mix of relief and disappointment. She looked at Nico, who skated back to his position, a flicker of annoyance in his eyes. The game went into overtime, and the tension in the arena grew thicker. Each shot on goal was met with gasps and cheers, the air charged with anticipation.
Finally, with just seconds remaining, the Hurricanes scored. The crowd erupted, and Lila leapt to her feet, fists pumping the air. She couldn't resist looking over at Nico, who had slammed his stick against the boards in frustration. Their eyes met briefly, and she saw the spark of challenge in his gaze. She knew he wouldn't forget this.
The days that followed were filled with trash talk and good-natured jibes, both on social media and in person. Lila couldn't help but feel a thrill every time Nico's name popped up on her notifications. She had to admit, he was a worthy opponent. Despite the rivalry, she found herself looking forward to their next encounter, eager to see what he'd come up with to one-up her.
The evening of the dinner finally arrived, and Lila chose a chic restaurant in Manhattan, one that she knew would make a statement. Nico arrived in a sleek black suit that made him look more like a GQ model than a hockey player. His eyes lit up when he saw her, dressed in a form-fitting dress that made her feel powerful and alluring.
"You look… wow," he said, his voice gruff with genuine surprise.
Lila's cheeks flushed, and she gave a small smile. "Thank you, Nico." She felt a twirl of nerves and excitement.
As they sat down, the hostess handed them menus, and Nico couldn't help but lean closer. "So, what's good here?"
Lila's eyes sparkled with amusement. "Everything, but I recommend the truffle risotto." She knew it was one of the priciest dishes, but she wasn't about to let him off easy.
The dinner was a dance of wit and sarcasm, with a side of surprising camaraderie. They talked about their careers, their families, and their shared love for the sport that had brought them together in such an unlikely way. Nico spoke about his childhood in Bern, the long road to becoming a professional athlete, and the passion that fueled his drive. Lila found herself captivated by his stories, his accent lending a charm to every word.
In between bites of the rich, creamy risotto, they dissected the game, each one pointing out moments of brilliance and strategy. Nico's admiration for her knowledge of the sport was clear, and she felt a sense of pride in being recognized by someone she considered to be one of the best in the league. They laughed at their own team's blunders and nodded in understanding at the others' triumphs.
As the meal progressed, the conversation grew more personal. Lila talked about her Cuban heritage and how she ended up in the world of hockey, a sport not typically associated with New York City. Nico listened intently, his eyes never leaving hers as she spoke. He revealed his own path to the NHL, the sacrifices he'd made to follow his dream, and the loneliness that sometimes came with being so far from home.
The wine flowed, loosening their tongues and lowering their guards. They found themselves sharing stories from their childhoods, their voices filled with nostalgia. Lila spoke of her abuelo's love for baseball and how she'd sneak into his room to watch games with him late into the night. Nico's eyes lit up as he reminisced about skating on the frozen lakes of Switzerland with his father.
The conversation grew quieter, more intimate. Lila felt a warmth spreading through her chest, the kind she hadn't felt in a long time. The rivalry that had once felt so intense now seemed like a playful game, a mask for the connection that had been simmering just beneath the surface.
Nico leaned in, his elbow resting on the table, his hand playing with the edge of his empty wine glass. "You know, I've always wondered," he began, his eyes searching hers, "what it would be like to have someone who truly gets it."
Lila swallowed a mouthful of her dessert, her heart skipping a beat. "Gets what?" she asked, playing coy.
Nico's gaze was intense, his voice low. "This life. The games, the travel, the pressure. Someone who doesn't just support you from the sidelines but understands it from the inside." His thumb traced the rim of the glass, and Lila felt the weight of his words.
Her heart thudded in her chest, and she leaned in slightly, her eyes never leaving his. "It's not easy," she said softly, "but when you love the game as much as we do, it's worth it."
Nico nodded, his gaze never wavering. "I know," he said, his voice thick with feeling. "But it's different when you find someone who loves it just as much as you do. Someone who gets the thrill of victory, the agony of defeat."
Their eyes held for a moment, the air between them thick with unspoken understanding. Lila felt a flutter in her stomach, the kind she hadn't experienced since she was a teenager with her first crush. The realization hit her like a slap in the face: she was falling for Nico Hischier, the captain of her team's rival. But as she looked into his eyes, she knew it was more than just the thrill of the game that drew them together.
Nico reached out and placed his hand over hers, his thumb brushing against her knuckles. The simple gesture sent a jolt of electricity through her, and she found herself leaning closer to him, drawn in by the warmth of his touch. "I think we might have more in common than just our jobs," he said, his voice barely above a whisper.
Lila felt the heat of his hand, the calluses a stark contrast to the smoothness of her skin. She knew he was right, that there was something deeper connecting them than just their love for hockey. The rivalry had been a shield, a way to keep the other at bay, but now it felt like the thinnest of veils.
"You might be onto something there," she murmured, her voice barely audible over the clinking of silverware and the low murmur of the other diners.
Nico's hand remained on hers, and she felt the warmth spread up her arm, igniting a fire within her that she hadn't felt in a long time. The air between them was charged with something more than rivalry, something that made her pulse race and her mind swirl with possibilities.
"Lila," Nico said, his voice earnest. "I know this isn't easy, but I can't ignore how much I enjoy being around you. The banter, the challenge, it's all part of what makes us… us." He took a deep breath. "What I'm trying to say is, I'd like to explore this. Off the ice, I mean."
Lila's heart pounded in her chest. The thought of crossing that line, of mixing her personal and professional life, was terrifying and thrilling all at once. But as she looked into his eyes, she knew she couldn't resist. "Okay," she breathed, her voice shaky. "Let's do it."
Nico's smile was like the sun breaking through clouds. He squeezed her hand gently before pulling away to signal for the check. The rest of the dinner passed in a blur of laughter and nerves. As they stepped out into the cool Manhattan night, the reality of what they had agreed to hang in the air like the first snowflakes of winter.
"Wait, I thought you were based in Raleigh," Nico said, as they stepped onto the sidewalk, the sounds of the city muffled by the gentle hum of traffic. "Why did you pick a place in Manhattan?"
"I was in town visiting my family," Lila replied, her heart racing. She hadn't planned on revealing this, but it felt right, like the universe had brought them together for more than just a rivalry-driven bet. Nico nodded, his gaze searching hers as the city lights danced in his eyes.
They walked down the street, their breaths misting in the cold air. The quiet between them was comfortable, a stark contrast to the heated banter of their usual interactions. "Do you come here often?" Nico asked, his voice tentative.
Lila chuckled, feeling more at ease than she had in his presence before. "Not really. I usually stay with my abuela in Newark when I visit, but I wanted to treat myself to a night out in the city."
Nico nodded, his eyes taking in the bustling streets of Manhattan. "It's a beautiful place," he murmured, his breath fogging in the cool air.
Lila couldn't help but feel a pang of nostalgia. "Yeah, it is. I miss it sometimes."
Nico glanced over at her, his expression gentle. "I can imagine. Being so far from home can be tough."
Lila nodded, feeling the weight of her decision to pursue a career in Raleigh. "But it's all worth it for the love of the game, right?"
Nico looked at her, his eyes softening. "More than you know." He paused, then added, "And maybe, for other reasons too."
Lila felt a warmth spread through her, and she looked away, trying to play it cool. "Well, you know what they say. When in New York…"
Nico chuckled, his arm brushing against hers. "I suppose we should make the most of it."
They strolled through the city, their conversation flowing easily as they explored the bright lights and bustling streets of Manhattan. The tension of their rivalry had dissipated, replaced by a tentative friendship that felt more natural than either of them could have anticipated. They wandered into a small park, the lights from the surrounding buildings casting a soft glow on the bare trees and the frozen pond.
Lila watched as Nico's eyes lit up at the sight of the ice. "You miss it?" she asked, her voice gentle.
He nodded, a wistful smile on his lips. "Sometimes. But the lakes aren't quite the same without the mountains."
Lila knew what he meant. "It's the memories that make a place special," she said, her voice soft.
Nico turned to her, his gaze intense. "And the people you share them with."
Their eyes held for a moment before Lila looked away, the warmth in her cheeks spreading down her neck. They continued walking in companionable silence, the sound of their footsteps echoing through the quiet park. The air was crisp and cold, but the warmth of their bodies was enough to keep them comfortable.
"You know I saw you staring at me during the game," Nico said suddenly, breaking the quiet. Lila's heart skipped a beat, and she turned to look at him. His eyes were on the pond, but she could feel the weight of his gaze.
"Staring? I was just keeping an eye on the enemy," she retorted, her voice light.
Nico chuckled, a sound that sent a thrill through her. "Is that what you call it?" His eyes met hers, a playful glint in his gaze.
Lila felt her cheeks warm even further. "Well, you know what they say about keeping your friends close and your enemies closer." She tried to sound flippant, but her voice betrayed her, a slight waver that she hoped he didn't catch.
Nico's smile grew, his teeth flashing in the moonlight. "Is that what I am to you, Lila? An enemy?"
Her heart thudded in her chest, the question hanging in the air like a puck in a still rink. "Well, we are rivals," she said, trying to keep the tremor from her voice.
Nico stopped, turning to face her. The moon cast shadows on his face, highlighting his strong jaw and the intensity in his eyes. "But are we enemies?"
Lila's throat went dry. She searched for the right words, but all she could do was shake her head. "No," she admitted. "Not really."
Nico took a step closer, closing the gap between them. "What are we, then?" His voice was low and gruff, the warmth of his breath reaching her face.
Lila's eyes searched his, the question in hers unspoken. For a moment, they stood there, the world around them fading into the background. The sound of their breathing seemed amplified in the stillness of the night. Then, with a smile that made her knees wobble, Nico reached out and brushed a strand of hair from her face. "Maybe we're just two people who were too stupid to realize their feelings sooner," he said, his voice barely above a whisper.
Before she could respond, his hand cupped her cheek, and he leaned in, closing the distance between them. Their lips met in a kiss that was as sweet and thrilling as a game-winning goal. It was gentle at first, a question more than a declaration. But as Lila melted into him, Nico deepened the kiss, his arms wrapping around her, pulling her closer.
The cold air was forgotten as the warmth of his embrace surrounded her. Lila felt the tension of the months of rivalry and flirtation dissolve into something new and exciting. His lips were soft yet firm, his touch tender but insistent. It was a kiss that held the promise of more, a kiss that spoke of shared passions and the beginnings of something real.
As they pulled apart, Lila's eyes searched Nico's, looking for any sign of doubt or hesitation. But all she saw was the same spark that had ignited in her own heart. He leaned his forehead against hers, his warm breath mixing with hers. "I've wanted to do that for a long time," he murmured.
Lila felt her pulse race. "Me too," she admitted, her voice barely above a whisper. She reached up, her hand resting on the back of his neck, her fingers curling into the soft strands of his hair. The kiss had been a surprise, but it was a surprise she hadn't wanted to end.
Nico's hand slid down to the small of her back, pulling her closer until their bodies were pressed together. The heat from his chest was a welcome warmth against the chill of the evening. Lila felt her heart flutter, a feeling she hadn't experienced in a long time. The line between rivalry and something more had been blurred, and now it was gone, replaced by a desire that was undeniable.
They stood there for a moment, lost in the kiss, before Nico pulled back slightly, his eyes searching hers. "Lila," he said, his voice thick with emotion, "I don't know how this will work, but I don't want to stop."
Lila's heart raced, her mind spinning with the implications of what they were starting. "Neither do I," she whispered, "but let's just… take it one shift at a time."
Nico chuckled, the sound rumbling through his chest and into her own. "Fair enough," he said, his eyes crinkling at the corners. "One shift at a time."

Star crossed lovers (Jude Bellingham fic)
Chapter 16
(Series Link)
Jude * female reader. Mature Language in parts.
Synopsis: A chance encounter in a tiny Madrid cafe with the newest superstar of her fav club. The two couldn't be more different, yet both feel the pull toward the other. Would this girl be the one he finally falls for? Or would life come in the way of these star-crossed lovers?
..................................................
Ananya stared at the photo without blinking. Consciously trying to figure whether this was real or a cruel nightmare she’d wake up from any second.
When her phone flashed with Roma’s name, she knew she was living her nightmare. There was no escape.
‘Finally.’
Roma’s relieved voice came from the speaker, while Ananya’s eyes were still glued to the photo.
‘Say something girl. Please.’
There was no point asking if Ananya had seen the article and the photos, and that one photo in particular. The deafening eerie silence at the other end was confirmation enough.
‘She’s pretty, isn’t she?’
Roma started pacing around her boyfriend’s living room. This is exactly what she was worried about. That her friend would somehow find a way to take it upon herself, instead of being raving mad at that fucker.
‘No babe, don’t do that to yourself.’
‘Well she is. Very beautiful.’
‘I DON’T FUCKING CARE how she looks or who she is. This is not about her.’
Ananya shook her head ruefully, and spoke in a small, faraway voice.
‘She is just his type.’
Roma wanted to throw her phone at the wall. And Jude out of the window.
Guilt was hitting her in truckloads. And she cursed the moment when she had encouraged Ananya to give this relationship a shot. Moments rather, coz there had been many. She had been #TeamJude every step of the way. Look where it got her friend.
But this wasn’t the time to have her own meltdown. She needed to be strong for Ananya, whose voice & state she was struggling to read presently. Getting her to talk was crucial.
‘Has he called? Has he tried to explain?’
‘He hasn’t called since he left Madrid last weekend. And what’s left to explain in this?’
The article stated specifically that the images had not been tampered with, they had the original & had verified it. There were two eyewitness accounts confirming it too. Who further added that the ‘couple’ were ‘cozy’ and ‘inseparable’ all night. Other than the lip-lock photo, there were a few others of them sitting close to each other in a small group, smiling, having drinks, giggling. The over-familiarity all too visible. This was more than the usual Jude friendliness, no one could convince Ananya otherwise. Not even Jude.
There was nothing left to clarify. Maybe he didn’t even feel the need to. The fact that there wasn’t even a peep from him yet was maybe his way of sending a message. That whatever ‘arrangement’ they had, it was over.
Roma had no logical counter to this, but some instinct was telling her to hear Jude’s side of the story. That is, if he had a side to share and if he had any interest in sharing it. Sadly, Ananya’s reading of it was very much a possibility. Roma had to admit that Jude was capable of it. He moved on quickly from his arrangements, without much care for who or what was left behind. Somehow though, she was convinced that he was different with Ananya. Their interactions over the last 2 months further solidified her belief that Jude genuinely cared for Ananya. How could both of them read him so wrong? Something about it was not sitting right, but the lip-lock photo was staring her in the face. How could she deny that? How could she give any false hope to her friend, when she had already caused her so much pain?
Her friend may not have been showing that pain explicitly, but Roma knew Ananya was falling back on the veneer of logic & practicality in order to hide her vulnerability & heartbreak. The shield was up, guarding her from further hurt.
‘Why didn’t you stop me, Roma? These silly fairytales never work, they always end this way. Why didn’t you tell me he was out of my league?’
‘He is not out of your league. YOU ARE OUT OF HIS LEAGUE. If all he wants to do is fuck those dumb bimbos who run after him 24*7 then to hell with him.’
‘See, you’re doing it again.’
‘I am telling you PLAIN FACTS ANANYA. He was not the catch in this one, YOU ARE.’
Ananya laughed a deeply broken laugh. And Roma wished if she could somehow teleport and be with her friend right now. Her being all alone in that apartment and in Madrid had come at the worst time.
‘He could have at least told me himself. I deserved that much, no?’
Roma fought the urge to curse the living daylights out of that bastard. But something was telling her that despite all this, Ananya still won’t like that.
‘You deserved a lot more. You deserve a lot better than that asshole.’
‘I…wait what time is it in the US right now? Must be way past midnight right?’
‘Doesn’t matter.’
‘Go to sleep, Roma.’
‘Rubbish. Talk to me. I’m not leaving you alone.’
‘Actually I kinda want to be alone. You know that’s how I process things.’
‘But…’
‘I’d be here when you wake up. Won’t do something stupid, if that’s what you are worried about.’
‘I don’t like how put together you sound.’
Ananya laughed that distant laugh again. It sounded so bitter and unpleasant to Roma, she never wanted to hear that sound again.
‘Want me to bawl my eyes out? That would be a natural & healthy reaction?’
‘Yes. That’s how I’d know it has hit you.’
Roma responded without missing a beat. She knew Ananya had this internal way of dealing with things but even then this felt messed up.
Ananya didn’t know how to articulate to her friend anymore. The tears were just not coming. The absolute sense of distraughtness and betrayal she should feel right now was just not happening. Maybe, maybe, a part of her always knew this would happen & was prepared for this? Maybe that’s why she was being able to disassociate herself from the situation and look at it so dispassionately?
‘Go to sleep Roma. You’ve been up all night. And remember - don’t contact him at all. No message, no call, just nothing. Don’t say anything to him. Maybe he’s even blocked us by now.’
It was part of his modus operandi. Ananya won’t be surprised.
Roma could see what Ananya was doing. The hurt was making her think of the worst and be prepared for it so even if that happens it doesn’t hurt her further. And Roma couldn’t blame her for acting this way. Because the pictures were damning, as were the eyewitness accounts.
She hated herself for pushing Ananya into his arms. The first date, her hesitation before she slept with him, all of that was dancing in Roma’s head, making her feel responsible for the hot mess her friend was in. Despite being aware of her emotionally fragile state and baggage from her previous relationship, Roma had still urged her to give it a go. Because she herself would have given it a go. But Roma should have thought of what was best for Ananya and not how she would respond to such a situation. She had failed as a friend, and Ananya was paying the worst possible price.
‘I’m so sorry babe. I really am.’
‘Stop that right now. You didn’t know him.’
‘I should have known.’
‘Hindsight is a bitch, ok? And guess what - I actually did know this is how he was. Because he told me. In his own words. With examples. But I still somehow convinced myself that I’d be the girl he’d change himself for. How delusional of me. Men like that don’t change, not really, I should have known. If anything, it’s my fault for still going ahead with it despite knowing everything about him.’
‘How about saying IT’S HIS FAULT? Coz that’s the only fucking thing that’s absolutely undeniable.’
‘Sure.’
‘What’s that supposed to mean?’
‘Look we can say whatever. But he’s not the one getting hurt. Maybe he’s still with…with her….right now. Having the time of his life. The only one responsible for my decisions is me. Can’t expect anyone else to make those calls or hold my hand through those. Especially when I knew everything about him. So you can say whatever and blame whoever but it was my decision and I have to live with it. That’s how it is in life. Ultimately you are on your own.’
‘You’re scaring the shit out of me Ananya. You’re not sounding ok.’
‘Actually I’m quite ok. Thinking clearly & straight. Maybe should have done that earlier but it is what it is. Now go, we’ll speak in a few hours. Don’t worry about me. I’m a big girl, I can handle this.’
Roma had no doubt that Ananya was strong when she needed to be. But there is a time to be strong and a time to have a complete meltdown. She should be having a meltdown right now and not vice versa. But, the best Roma could do in this situation was to be there in whatever approach her friend took.
‘I know you can. I know you will. Talk to you in a few hours, yeah?’
‘Yes. Bye.’
‘Bye babe.’
When Ananya hung up, she didn’t know what to do with herself the next second. Looking at her phone anymore made her pukish. Staying away from it made her anxious. Watching something on OTT or just lying in bed made her dizzy.
Other than Roma, no one else close to her knew about Jude. And she didn’t want to bother her friend beyond a point either. Roma was meeting Chris after 6 long months and it was Christmas for crying out loud. Why ruin it for others just because her life was fucked up right now.
There was no one else to talk to. Which, in hindsight, was a silver lining. No one else would know what a royal fool she had made of herself. She could almost picture her cousin scoffing at her for trying to be in a ‘relationship’ with a playboy footballer who claimed to want to change for her. That only happened in rom-coms, not in real life. Thing is, she knew that. Very well. But still could not resist him. Solely her fault.
The face of that girl kept flashing in front of her eyes - Ananya couldn’t get her out of her head.
Then she did something she wasn’t proud of. That she absolutely should not have done. In a weak moment, she found that girl’s Insta and went through her pics.
She was stunningly beautiful. Perfect features. Perfect figure. Perfect hair. Perfect style. Gorgeous from head to toe. The kind of girl who would look perfect on Jude’s arm. The kind of girl Jude would want to show off to the world. Definitely the kind of girl he’d love to take to bed. Given their history and the fact they were on/off for ~2 years or so, they would have explored pretty much everything intimate together. She would have satisfied Jude in ways Ananya couldn’t even imagine.
It made sense for Jude to want to be with her. To go back to her. It was logical.
Why was it making Ananya’s head spin then?
She couldn’t be alone with her thoughts, not right now. Even roaming the streets in this chilly winter morning was an acceptable alternative. At least it would numb her, in more ways than one. And she set out to do just that.
Unaware of the absolute carnage he had caused, Jude was passed out in his bed. His team had obviously seen the article and images, as had his parents. The strategy was going to be no comment, as always; it would die down in a few days or a few weeks, as was the norm.
Denise knew Jude had returned in the early hours of the morning and no good would come from speaking to him at this time. So no one had bothered to wake him up. His phone was burning up with messages from friends and teammates, but he was too deep in his drunken stupor.
No one in his close circle knew why this would be catastrophic for Jude or unlike any previous tabloid pieces on him. No one other than Jobe.
When Jobe woke up around 9:30 am, from the constant notifications, he stared at his phone in disbelief. Then, he ran to Jude.
Not bothering to knock or anything, he breezed past his brother’s bedroom door to find him face down on the bed. Drooling in his sleep. The clothes & shoes from last night thrown around the room.
Jobe shook his arm. No response.
Then he shook him harder. Jude whined loudly.
‘Go away.’
‘Stop being a brat & wake the fuck up. Right now.’
That got Jude’s attention. Because Jobe rarely took that tone with him.
Rubbing his eyes, still half disoriented, he sat up on the bed.
‘What is it?’
Jobe just threw his phone in Jude’s lap.
And the colour drained from Jude’s face. In real time.
Frozen, wide-eyed, he stared at the photo on the screen. A million thoughts scrambling in his head yet not a single coherent one coming out.
‘Shit. No no no GOD NO.’
Jude looked up desperately at his brother, who was looking back intently with his arms crossed, trying to get a read on him.
‘See the rest of it.’
Jobe said plainly; his tone cutting through Jude’s mumbling sounds.
When Jude did, he almost wished he hadn’t. Every image, every caption more damning than the other. He could see what it looked like. And nothing was as stark as that ‘lip-lock’ thing.
The denial and shock made way to sudden rage at this massive invasion of privacy.
‘It was a fucking private club that charged buttloads for being so. Who the fuck even took these?’
‘So it’s true then?’
Jobe’s posture was neutral, but Jude saw the irritation in his tone.
‘NO. I mean, not all of it. Its….its not what it looks like.’
‘Cut the bullshit & tell me straight. Did something happen with her last night?’
Shoulders dropped in defeat, Jude covered his face with both his hands. Jobe knew him the best. And if even he had to ask this, what hope could he have with her?
‘It’s not what it looks like.’
Jude whispered, almost to himself, swaying from side to side.
Jobe eyed him for a few moments. It didn’t feel like his brother was lying, but he was guilty about something.
‘How would I get her to believe me, Jobe?’
He was still hiding beneath his hands. Hoping for this new reality to just vanish.
‘Do you want to?’
Jude grabbed his hand and pulled his brother down to sit close to him. Then, he flung himself at Jobe and Jobe’s arms came around his shoulders, hugging him back.
‘Please, not you too. You gotta believe me, please.’
‘I’m not the one you need to convince bro.’
Jude looked up at him then, with such hope & nerves that it tugged at Jobe’s heart.
‘I need to know this. Do you believe me?’
A long pause.
‘Yes.’
Jude went back into Jobe’s arms, as the younger boy patted his brother’s back gently.
‘Talk to her. Tell her everything.’
Jobe hadn’t understood what the ‘everything’ was but looking at Jude, he could tell there was more than meets the eye. His brother seemed to have fucked up somehow, just not as much as it looked like.
Jude kept his head buried in Jobe’s chest. He couldn’t seem to catch a break. This couldn’t have come at a worst time. Just when she was starting to….
‘Can you check my phone? See if there’s anything from her?’
He was too anxious to check himself, like there was some finality to it.
‘There’s nothing.’
Somehow, that was even worse.
‘Maybe she hasn’t seen it yet. It’s what, 11 am in Madrid?'
‘She has. I can feel that she has.’
‘Call her then.’
Jude’s fingers hovered over the call button, and finally Jobe clicked it for him.
It rang once. No response. They tried again. No response. One more time. Same result.
‘She’s got a roommate no? Call her maybe?’
Jude knew that if they had talked, then he won’t get a different response from Roma. He’d probably get a worse response in fact.
But he was desperate. So he tried it. Two full rings, nothing.
Then it hit him. During one of the movie nights at Ananya’s place, Roma had mentioned about her Christmas plans. One quick look at her Insta and Jude knew she was back in the US. She had been there all week.
So Ananya was alone in Madrid? All this week? That sucked big time. And he didn’t even realise that. Until now.
He looked at Jobe in despair.
‘Text her. Leave her a voice note. You can’t not do anything.’
When Jude opened his chat window with her, he realised that was all he had done all week. Just texts & voice notes. Brief. Hurried. But there was no time to kick himself. Time was of utmost essence right now.
‘Trying to reach you, dove. Pls call me back.’
Then he went back to staring at his phone, willing her to respond, while Jobe walked around the room, thinking what else could be done here.
One full hour passed. And Jude’s heart sank further with each minute.
Meanwhile, Ananya was taking a long walk on the Madrid streets in the mind-numbing cold. When the chill got too much to handle, she went to a nearby mall and sat at a coffee shop. Initially, the hustle & bustle around her was a welcome distraction. But soon it became unbearable. Happy families, cheerful friends and loving couples. While she didn’t have anyone right now. Their happiness was mocking her. So she took the long walk back home, delaying reaching that place to the extent possible.
Once inside, where she could feel her fingers again, she pulled out her phone & found 3 missed calls + three messages from her supposed boyfriend.
Boyfriend. Yeah right.
She read the first message and scoffed at the nick-name.
The next one had come 15 mins after the first.
‘Missing you. Pls talk to me.’
She scoffed harder at the ‘missing’ part. Last week was surely a unique way of missing her. She looked at the last message finally.
‘Baby I’m worried now. Need to hear your voice.’
This charade needed to end. She needed to rip off this band-aid. Maybe it would even give her some clarity?
Ananya stood in front of the mirror and took a long hard look at herself. She still hadn’t cried yet. Not a single tear. She didn’t know why.
Maybe because she had been an emotional wreck in her last relationship. So much that she couldn’t even recognise herself at times. That had not done anyone any good. She had vowed to be different in this one. To be the voice of reason & logic, not some sobbing little sap.
Was it really not normal? Was Roma right? She didn’t know, but at least this steeled up state put her in a decent space to talk to him and get it over with. To see what kind of story he would concoct. At least she won’t be a mess in front of him. She won’t give him the satisfaction of breaking her.
Just then, her phone flashed with a video call from Jude. She disconnected it & dialled him on audio. Jude nearly dropped the phone when she called back - with relief and with nerves.
‘Oh thank god. I was starting to get worried.’
‘Hmm.’
‘Let me see you, dove? Let’s face-time?’
‘I think this is fine.’
Awkward silence ensued. Ananya had no intention of helping him or giving him any segue. The least he could do was man up and have the balls to admit what he did. She waited for him to get there.
Her aloofness was confirmation enough. She had seen everything. Read everything. Suddenly Jude was at a loss for words. So he blurted out the first thing that came to his mind.
‘It’s not what it looks like.’
And there it was.
‘The photos are doctored?’
‘No, but..’
‘The kiss didn’t happen?
‘It did, but…’
‘Did you sleep with her?’
‘WHAT?’
‘What part of that did you not understand? Did you spend last night with her? Are you still in her bed or on your way back?’
The sheer lack of emotion in her tone made her sound so cold. Distant. It hit him like a whiplash.
Jude had heard a similar voice before, when the earlier tabloid piece had come out. But this was 10x of that. This was his Ananya but not really. It’s like she had locked her emotions away, only letting her brain come to the fore.
‘I’m home, babe.’
‘Oh. Didn’t have a morning tumble then? Thought you really liked those.’
Jude shut his eyes tightly, and ran his spare hand through his hair. Absolutely losing handle on the conversation.
‘Please I’m begging you pls just hear me out ONCE. Please.’
He heard a sharp intake of breath at the other end. A decision had been reached.
‘Fine.’
‘We bumped into each other at a private club yesterday. Hadn’t seen each other in over 2 years so just got talking. Remember, we were friends before we started dating, yeah? She was mostly talking about football and how great it was to see my journey. Then we spoke about some school mates and what they were up to right now. Shared a laugh or two about them. That’s what you see in the other photos. It wasn’t some personal conversation about her & I or our time together. We didn’t go there, I swear.’
‘And yet you magically kissed after that? How amusing.’
Jude sighed deeply. This next part would be a lot harder to navigate, he knew that already.
‘We were drunk. Out of our wits. The lads wanted to go to another club so when we were pushing off, I leaned in to greet her and….kiss her goodbye….on her cheek. In hindsight should not have done that either but hindsight is a bitch. She….she turned her face at the last moment and…it turned into a proper kiss. But I swear I pulled away immediately.’
Ananya laughed that bitter laugh, the one Roma had heard a few hours ago. It turned Jude’s hands cold.
‘So she came on to you? That’s the line you’re taking?’
‘Well that or she was drunk & it was an accident for her too.’
‘I see. Which one do you think it was? Accident or she wanted to kiss you?’
The cold hands suddenly were clammy now.
‘I…I don’t know.’
“Do me a favour & take a guess.’
He knew she could sense the guilt in his voice, hence was doubling down. In a different situation he was capable of straight up lying & getting away. But with her he just couldn’t.
‘I-I think I may have… led her on. It may have looked more to her than what it was.’
Zero response from the other end. Just the sound of her breathing. He took it as a cue to continue.
‘Given our history…and familiarity…our proximity may have given her the impression that I was….interested.’
‘That, and the coziness and the inseparability, yeah?’
‘Don’t believe the tabloid captions, babe. You know what they are like.’
‘I’m gonna believe my eyes. I saw how you were with her. In every photo, not just THAT one.’
‘I swear I didn’t…’
She cut him off, having heard enough of his swears.
‘Why didn’t you tell me immediately? Why didn’t I hear this from you?’
‘It was late. I was drunk. Wasn’t thinking straight. Was still trying to understand what the fuck just happened.’
‘And you didn’t know there was going to be any evidence of it.’
Long pregnant pause. Then a small choked voice.
‘Yes.’
‘Hmm. So your intentions were all holy & pure but she misunderstood them somehow and came on to you and kissed you. And it only happened ONCE but somehow in just that ONE moment there was someone to capture that clear photo. Then you went your separate ways yet you didn’t bother to tell your current girlfriend that this gigantic thing happened with your ex-girlfriend. And now you feel you may have led her on inadvertently. That sums it up?’
‘I know how it sounds. I know how it would have looked to you but baby please trust me I didn’t want anything with her. Not for a second.’
‘So you say.’
‘My friends were with me all night. I can get any of them to talk to you.’
‘As if they haven’t lied for you or covered for you before.’
They had. Many times. Jude had no counter to this.
His desperation was at its peak now. He could feel her slipping away. Rapidly.
‘You know what you mean to me. In your heart you know how precious you are to me. Why would I intentionally do anything to screw that up?’
She scoffed so derisively it cut through his soul.
‘Precious? Sure. That’s why you forgot about me all week, as soon as I was out of sight. And someone else was in sight.’
That was one thought Ananya couldn’t shake. That it wasn’t the only time they had met. Maybe the reason he was so MIA this week was because of that girl.
Jude was distraught. She was landing punch after punch. Every word piercing, laden with truth. And he had no defence to any of it.
‘Why are you talking to me like this? Like you don’t…care anymore. Like it doesn’t matter anymore. Like you’ve already decided I’m guilty and…and…whatever I say makes no difference.’
She refused to humour that with a response. It was self-explanatory according to her.
‘Don’t do this. Please I’m scared. Don’t pull away like this. I don’t know what to do, dove. You know me. You’ve always understood me. Pls one more time, pls try to understand.’
Understanding him was all she had done since she met him. His ways, his lifestyle, his schedules, his highs & lows, his moods, his past.
But not only had he made a mickey out of her feelings, he was also insulting her intelligence now by cooking up this convenient story. That was a double whammy she refused to take.
Her silence was making his pulse go a million miles per second.
He needed her back, right fucking now.
‘Look, once I am back there in a few days it will be fine, ok? We’ll meet and we’ll be together and you’ll realise it was all a big misunderstanding. Can’t wait to have you in my arms.’
She had no interest in being subjected to his seductive charm or manipulative ways again. Just so he could reel her back in.
‘I won’t be here when you return.’
‘Wh-what does that mean?’
‘I have moved up my trip to India, leaving in 2 days.’
‘Whyy? When did you…when are you back?’
‘Don’t know yet.’
‘What about work?’
‘Work from home is allowed under special circumstances. I’ll think of something.’
‘So you’re just going to walk out?’
‘Some distance wouldn’t hurt.’
‘Distance from me?’
‘From everything. But yes, mostly from you.’
That was a bodyblow which made him nearly tumble over in pain and hurt. Disorienting him to the point he didn’t know what he was saying anymore.
‘So you’ll run at the first sign of trouble? Not gonna fight for us? I thought you hated your ex for doing that.’
Boy, was that a low blow. She was fuming. If he were near she could have strangled him with her bare hands. After everything he had done, everything they had been through, every time she had given him the benefit of the doubt, the bastard had the audacity to say first sign of trouble? ‘First’? Like it was her fault they were in this mess. Like she was the one who had cheated.
But why was she surprised? Jude was like any other man, clearly. It was always the girl’s fault. Always.
She won’t give him the satisfaction to get a reaction out of her anymore. He didn’t even deserve her anger.
After a few deep breaths and the burning sting of her nails in her thighs, she recovered.
‘You’re right. I’m the one to blame here.’
‘Can you GET OFF YOUR HIGH HORSE FOR ONE FUCKING MINUTE and talk like a real person? A person with feelings other than sarcasm?’
Her patience reached its limits.
‘I think we’ve hurt each other enough, yeah? Let’s call it a day.’
‘Are you for real right now?’
‘Are you?’
‘Waittt. Please wait. Pls this can’t be happening. It’s ME. It’s US. How could you walk away from us?’
‘Bye Jude.’
‘NO. NO. Dove please just…’
Her resolve was fast breaking, as was her voice. Despite everything, she couldn’t see him in pain. Not like this.
‘Have a good…good one Jude.’
With that, she hung up.
And all the pent up emotion came flooding out of her eyes.
She cried and cried, falling face down on the bed, clutching the phone to her chest, trying to remember the sound of his voice, because maybe, maybe, this was the last time she had heard it.
Every inch of this house was filled with his memories.
The dining table was where they had their first kiss. The couch had been the place for endless cuddles, cozy dinners and movie nights. The kitchen is where he usually followed her into, as she tried to wrap up some chores or fix them a snack.
Her bedroom was the worst. So many nights cuddled up together, when he came to her post matches or out of city travels. Their first time had also happened here. The desk, the walls just reminded her of the countless times he had backed her against those.
The place smelled of him. She could almost see his face anywhere she looked.
And she ran. To the first decent escape she could find - a movie hall. A random Spanish language movie was playing, but at least she wasn’t in a place that felt like a graveyard of his memories.
She had sworn to herself to not break this time. No, she will be strong through all this. She will not be a weeping mess. She will not let her heart knock her down, not again.
She had been through this once, she was equipped to handle this.
Jude, on the other hand, had no idea what hit him.
This kind of pain he was not familiar with. When you have no control over your life, and your happiness / sanity is entirely in another person’s hands. The sheer helplessness of it completely caught him off guard.
Why did it have to happen now? Just when he was truly giving it a shot. When she was starting to open up to him. Why now?
He wasn’t even sure what exactly had happened, given how quickly things transpired and boiled up.
Jobe came to check on him a few minutes later and found him sitting on the floor, leaning against the bed. He was quiet, far too quiet for Jobe’s liking.
He sat down next to his big brother, and put an arm around his shoulder. Jude leaned into his touch immediately, leaving his body loose against Jobe’s.
‘Didn’t go well?’
Jobe asked softly.
‘It was horrible. Nasty.’
Jude managed to utter, almost mumbling to himself.
‘Tell me what happened.’
Jude gave a summary and Jobe sighed through it. Once done, Jude looked at his little brother for some suggestion. Or some words of comfort. Or both.
But Jobe’s face was telling him what he needed to know. What he knew already.
‘It’s fucked up, isn’t it?’
‘It is bad bro, not gonna lie. But, maybe, give her some time and it’d get better?’
Jude kept shaking his head, staring into a void.
Ten mins passed by and Jude sat like that. Without saying another word. Just leaning into Jobe.
This was new territory for Jobe as well. He had seen Jude through a ton of lows, mostly professional, but Jude took those to heart as well so they turned personal for him.
But the thing with Jude was, he was always expressive. Emotional. Animated. Wearing his heart on his sleeve. Whether he was angry or upset or sad he would still express his emotion passionately.
It was very rare for Jude to get this quiet. The last time he’d been like this was when Dortmund lost the league on the last match-day. Jobe could tell how dire this was for him.
He pulled out his phone slowly and opened his chat window with Ananya. The pair had actually exchanged a few messages this week. Random stuff - books, shows etc.
But what could he say to her? Was it his place to intervene? He had only met her like 9 days ago. Only spent a few hours with her. Would it make things worse if he says anything?
Something in his gut was telling him to still do it, and Jobe believed in following his instinct.
‘Hey. Hope you’re doing ok.’
A few seconds later, he could see her typing back.
‘Hey.’
‘I’m sorry for butting in, I really am, but for what it’s worth I don’t think he’s lying.’
‘How do you know that?’
‘Because I’ve never seen him like this. Ever.’
‘Were you with him last night?’
‘No.’
‘Then you can’t say for sure.’
‘I know it. I can tell.’
‘You love him, Jobe. He’s your brother. I get it that you’d believe him. But I hope you can see why I can’t.’
Jobe didn’t know what to say beyond this. The writing was on the wall. Loud & clear.
Jude was still zonked out. This had gone beyond Jobe’s handling power. He needed the big gun here.
Denise got Jobe’s message and came into the room, finding both her boys sitting on the floor. Air filled with doom & gloom.
Alarmed, she rushed to them and Jobe stood up, letting Denise take his place next to Jude.
Jude immediately melted in Denise’s arms, placing his head on her lap.
She patted him gently, rocking him a little while Jobe filled her in about Ananya.
Denise wasn’t surprised; she had known all along something was different with Jude last few weeks. She had even hinted it to him once or twice but eventually let it be, thinking he’d come tell her when he’s ready. If he’s ready. But she didn’t know it was something deep. Something this deep.
Jude’s face and silence was telling her all she needed to know. About how much that girl meant to her boy.
She ran her hand through his hair, and stroked his shoulder with the other hand. Jude sighed in her lap, near tears. The moment reminded her of how Jude had cried while leaving Birmingham City 3.5 years also. Even then he had been on the floor, while she tried to console her 17 year old who was moving away from home forever.
‘Do you want to make this right, Jude?’
Her tone was loving, but not overly so. Because she knew how heartbroken that girl would be at the other end, far worse than her son. And her son needed to learn that actions have consequences, especially in matters of the heart.
Jude whimpered out a response.
‘Ofcourse, mum. I need her. What do I do?’
‘If you truly want to be with her, then you’d know what to do. Think what she would want you to do right now.’
And instantly, it hit Jude.
Ananya returned late in the evening, and was just taking off her coat, when she heard her doorbell.
Thinking it must be some neighbourhood folks coming to offer her Christmas pudding, AGAIN, she dragged herself to the door.
And found him on the other side. The man of her dreams. The cause of her nightmares. Jude fucking Bellingham was standing at her door, with a bouquet of white tulips in his hand.
...........................................................................................
There you go.
I broke the original idea of the chapter into two - Ch 16 and 17.
Else it was becoming a very long & emotionally draining one chapter.
This should give you more clarity.
As always, would love to hear your thoughts / comments / messages.

Text Me The Details
Modern!Rockstar!Eddie Munson x Influencer!fem!reader
18+ MINORSDNI
cw: gossip magazines, reader being horny on a live stream, cocky!Eddie, drinking, drugs mention
a/n: I kinda want this to be a series? So expect a part two at some point. But yeah this isn't an original idea so, credit to literally everyone who's done this before me. I gave reader a last name because if I have to write y/l/n one more time I'll sob. ANYWAY I hope you all enjoy and let me know if you like this!
WC: 1.2k
...
You are never drinking again. Ever.
Your management would agree after what happened last night. You didn’t mean to spill the secret you’d been keeping. It wasn’t even that big of a deal, however, you had an image to keep up. The party girl, the kind one, the one with lots of friends, the girl who had good grades in college, the one who always donated most of her fortune to various organizations.
Now, every tabloid was writing articles about your celebrity crush.
Party girl and influencer drunkenly admits she’d love to sleep with lead singer of Corroded Coffin Eddie Munson. Sources have said they’ve been together for a while but decided to keep it under wraps.
The dating portion of that article wasn’t true and you silently vow to figure out who the fuck these ‘sources’ were. However, you admitting to wanting to fuck Eddie… did happen. You have no one to blame but yourself.
Now, there are three reasons why you’re so stressed about this. First, even though you party all the time, you were good. You know, like only went out on the weekends, did every single assignment, tutored people on the side, was probably the most unproblematic influencer out there. Second, the last thing you wanted was Eddie Munsons attention. You had this thing where you didn’t want the people you were fans of to perceive you.
Theoretically you knew they did, most of them followed you on social media. But there was a difference between being a fan of someone, and them semi-knowing you vs your actual crush who you own a poster or two of? That makes you want to throw up and pass out at the same time.
But, finally, the third reason this stressed you out was because Eddie and his crew were not good. You know like, partied every single day, smoked a lot of weed and snorted coke off of his groupies and fans. It was all over the tabloids and the band has even posted about it a time or two. You didn’t do that. And if the tabloids caught you doing that, you’d lose everything you worked towards.
“So this is how we’re going to fix it,” Case, your manager, says from where she’s standing next to the fireplace in your apartment. “You’re gonna go back on live and say it was an accident.”
You look up from the article you were reading, eyes finding his. “That is the worst idea ever. I was tipsy not black out drunk. No one will ever believe that was an accident.” You huff, locking your phone, “and I have tickets to their show next week.”
You loved your team, but sometimes they made the most insane comments on how to fix the unfixable.
You stand, pacing the room, “he isn’t one to read gossip magazines. And-and I’m not on the same level as his band. They’re A listers and I’m C list at best.”
Your manager and publicist look like fish after what you said. Anna, your publicist speaks first, “I swear to god if you ever say that again I am uppin your therapy appointments. You hear me?”
You huff, sitting back down on the couch, “I’m not kidding though. I’m not giving up this ticket. It’s one of the few things I’m looking forward to.”
Case answers after rubbing her temples, “you better pray this blows over without him seeing it. You may party but his partying is a whole other level.”
…
The call came two days later, an unknown number popping up on your phone.
You knew, you knew before you even accepted the call who’d be on the other end of the line.
It felt like it started in slow motion, first came the gossip mags with the original story. Then came Eddie following you on instagram. He’d like a few photos and stories you put up. Then came his interview. The interview where he said, “of course I know who she is. I’m flattered really. I hear she’s a sweet girl.”
Now, your phone is buzzing in your hand and you can’t bring yourself to answer the phone.
“Yes just a fucking person. Just like you’re a person. Answer the phone.” You look down at the phone and are thankful it’s just you in your house. You tap the answer button, a fake smile on your face, as you put the phone to your ear.
“Hello?” you use your best interview voice, the one Anna has drilled into you.
You can hear him breathe in before letting it out, long and slow, it’s clear he took a drag of his cigarette. Is he nervous too? There’s no way. Eddie always seemed to be this cool and calm guy, never afraid of anything or anyone. He gets into more fights in a week than you have in your entire 25 years of existence.
“Good afternoon, Miss Asher.” You can hear the grin in his voice and it sends a shiver down your spine, your heart pounding in your chest. “It’s Eddie.”
He didn’t have to introduce himself to you, you’d be able to pick out his voice in a crowded room. But only because you’ve listened to his music so often… only reason.
“Oh! Hi! I’m s-surprised to hear from you.” You cringe at the stutter that came out of you. You had more than enough practice dealing with any situation thrown at you. From the funny to the uncomfortable to the scary. You were trained for this and you were fucking it up. “How can I help you?”
“The band and I will be in town next friday, we’re playing a show.” You know where this is going and it makes your heart beat faster, so fast you’re scared it’ll burst. “I was wonderin’ if you were goin’?”
Oh fuck. Oh fuck. Oh fuck. Oh fuck.
“I am, actually. Me and a few of my friends actually.” You rub your hands down your sweatpants, nerves making them sweat.
“Oh! Well that is fantastic,” his tone is chipper as hell and you know he’s high. On what, you have no idea. “I was thinkin’ that maybe ya friends and you’d wanna join us backstage. VIP area for the show? What cha think?”
All of sudden you forget how the english language works, your tongue sticking to the roof of your mouth. This is what you’ve been wanting for so long. Well, in your dreams of course. But looking at it from a business perspective, it could bring his fans to your page and your fans to his page. It was kind of a win win. Well, win win lose because then Corroded coffin knows who the actual fuck you are and you arent just some fan. And that, terrified you,
“Heeeeeeello? Are you there?”
His voice breaks through your clogged mind, forcing you to respond.
“Hi, sorry. I’m here! I um I got distracted. But, yeah that sounds great, actually. We-we’d love that.”
“Good! I will have my people call your people, yeah?”
“O-or you can just send me the information,” you say it before thinking and now you really want to punch yourself.
He chuckles to himself, “okay, sweetheart, I’ll text you the information. See you next friday.”
He hangs up before you can say another fucking stupid thing. You press the phone into your hands, foot bouncing on the floor with nerves. You can think of seven different ways that conversation could’ve (and should’ve) happened. One of which was with your entire team, another being with your friends, another being with your parents. Not alone to make a fool out of yourself. Your management team was really going to kill you.

Summary: You had harbored a crush on Yunho for quite some time, even though they knew they weren't each other's destined mates. She thought her affection would persist indefinitely, unaware that the arrival of a woman would be the catalyst for her heartbreak. That is until your enemy, San appeared, reigniting the fire in her heart.
(a/n: This fanfic is really long lol. I originally wanted to shorten it, but there are a lot of things I want to add. This is the plot that inspired me when I was playing c.ai. I like it so much that I have always wanted to write about it. Although I don't think many people will read or like this article, I'll still post it🫠. Also, I haven't had much interest in writing lately (again!). Inspiration is so fickle, and my traffic has dropped a lot.🥲 So these may be the last few fanfics (there is still a request that has not been written). Anyway, thank you all for your support.)
You find yourself perched on the soft, empty grass, your gaze tracing the movements of a tall figure in the distance. It's Yunho, the heir to your clan's leader and your childhood best friend. Each time his eyes inadvertently lock with yours, a flutter of excitement stirs in your heart, and a smile tugs at your lips without your consent.
You had feelings for him, yet the harsh truth remains: he was not your mate. This reality became painfully clear in the first transformation, yet you refused to relinquish your hopes, clinging to this unrequited love. Perhaps this is your quiet rebellion against the whims of fate, even if it seems utterly foolish and pathetic.
"Hey, dumbass. Watching your favourite prince practicing?" Suddenly, an annoying voice pierced the air from behind you. Your wolf ears perked up, detecting the sound of approaching footsteps. Great, it was him again—the bully from the Wonderland clan, Choi San.
You hated him. A Lot. He always treated you like some kind of plaything, constantly teasing you. It felt like he was a ghost, popping up wherever you went, almost like he was stalking you. You really wished you had killed him in last year's match. If you had just been a bit more ruthless, you wouldn't be dealing with this mess. But that's just a fantasy you tell yourself.
"No matter how much you like him, he won't like you back. Idiot" San said and wrapped his arm around your shoulder, resting his head against yours. God damn it…she really smelled good… He couldn't help but lean in closer, silently sniffing your scent. It drove him crazy.
"Shut up and fuck off." You let out an annoyed sigh at the sound of his voice. Your blood felt like it was simmering, and the urge to shove him away was almost overwhelming. Yet, you remained still. The way his body was pressed so closely against yours left you feeling vulnerable, a sensation you were reluctant to acknowledge.
You want more…more…
He was all too aware of that. San's icy grip on your shoulder only grew more possessive, pulling you closer against him. His breath landed the nape of your neck, his lips tantalizingly close to your ear.
"He's probably thinking of some chick from another clan." San grinned, relishing the way your skin felt against his. From the moment he laid eyes on you during the match, he sensed you were meant to be his, yet you never admitted it. Absurdly, your heart belonged to Yunho. It drove him wild with frustration. But honestly, San didn't have any real romantic feelings for you; it was just his alpha instincts and a fierce possessiveness urging him to make you his.
"He's not like you." You scoffed, trying to break his hold. "He's much better than you annoying asshole."
"How do you know?"
"That's common sense."
"C'mon, you know nothing about me…" San chuckled smugly, clearly relishing every moment. It was like he could sense your anger and was just itching to provoke you further. "I bet you will find me more attractive than that guy…" His hand slid down your arm, locking around your wrist, his breath sending a shiver down your spine, which you tried to shake off.
"Look at you, still as cute as ever," he teased, "Can't handle a little touch, huh, puppy?"
This was really getting under your skin. Your face felt hot, and your heart was racing like crazy. Why did he have to be so damn attractive and annoying? You attempted to keep your cool, but it was nearly impossible with San so near.
He slid his hand down a bit more, now resting on your hip. "You look adorable when you're all shy and flustered, puppy," San laughed, pulling you in even closer.
"Hey, you!!Enough─" "Hands off!!" Your sentence was abruptly interrupted by a voice you knew all too well, drawing your gaze to the approaching figure.
It was Yunho, the one who made your heart race.
"I take it that a Wonderland wolf isn't welcome here?" Yunho remarked, his tone authoritative yet playfully teasing. You gazed at him as if he were your hero, prompting an irritated growl from San.
"Tsk… Mind your own business," San retorted, tapping his foot impatiently, shooting him a frustrated look. He couldn't stand how your face lit up with relief at Yunho's presence. It should have been him who made you feel secure, the one you clung to, not this guy.
Yunho moved in closer, his grip tightening around your wrist as he pulled you away from San's grasp. A jolt of electricity shot through you at his touch, but it was quickly overshadowed by a wave of disappointment as San's presence faded. Why did it feel wrong? You should have been relieved, yet the feeling of loss washed over you.
"This is my clan's territory. You have no right to lay a hand on my pack member without my consent," Yunho declared, looming over San, who instinctively took a step back.
"Tsk…so possessive," San retorted, attempting to stand his ground, but Yunho paid him no mind. "Now, leave my clan. I won't warn you again." Other wolves gathered around Yunho, their eyes fixed on San with a mix of disdain, as if he were an unwelcome intruder.
"Alright, alright," San said, raising his hands in mock surrender, a smirk still playing on his lips. "I'm leaving, no need for violence." He took a slow step back, his eyes lingering on you for a moment before shifting back to Yunho, then he turned and walked away.
Yunho spun around, worry etched on his face. "Are you alright?" he asked. You smiled and nodded, reassuring him. "Yeah… I'm good…"
"Be careful next time, okay? He is not a nice guy, you know…" He ruffled your hair, smiling lovingly. You loved how he laughed which was making your heart skip a beat. "You know you're my best friend and I will keep you safe."
"Okay…" You nodded, a blush creeping in. "Yunho, shall we hang—"
But before you could continue, a girl burst in. "Yunho!!" He looked up, shifting his focus to her.
"Oh, hey, Jessica." He smiled awkwardly at her.
"What's wrong?Has something bad happened?I heard a wolf from Wonderland came here?"
"Relax…relax…nothing happened."
"Oh…thank god…" Jessica nodded with a smile. She was stunning, tall, and had gorgeous fur that made every wolf swoon. "Is this your friend?" Jessica asked, looking at you and pointing, which made you feel a bit uneasy. She was sweet and friendly, but there was always something off about her.
"Yeah…this is my friend, Y/N." Yunho looked at you quickly before focusing back on Jessica.
"Ohhh!Y/N!Yunho mentioned you a lot." She giggled, trying to play the part of the sweet girl. You could only respond with a forced smile, clearly not thrilled to be around her. You understood her game; she was just flaunting how much Yunho chatted with her.
Jessica seemed to enjoy your reaction, while Yunho appeared to be silently enduring the whole situation. He wasn't as energetic as he usually was, and definitely not as shy around a girl. It was obvious he had a crush on her too.
She glanced at the clock that was hanging from the tree, keeping an eye on the time. "Oh no! My first training session is about to start. I need to head out, catch you later, Yunho." She playfully messed up Yunho's hair before starting to walk off. Yunho stayed put for a moment, fixing his hair that had fallen over his eyes. He looked at you and let out a soft sigh.
"She's always like that…" Although he was complaining, you could see a small smile tug on his lips which made your heart tighten. He would never show this side to you. For him, you were just his friend, a normal member in his pack.
"It seems you like that a lot, huh?"
"Why would you ask that?"
"Am I wrong?"
"What?Are you jealous?"
"Don't try to change the subject, Yunho."
"Fine…I might have a tiny bit of feelings for Jessica."
"Just tiny?" You forced a smile despite your heart was arching.
"You're forcing me to admit to liking her more, aren't you?"
"Just be honest."
"Fine…I'll admit it…I do like her a lot."
His words struck your heart like a sudden blow, shattering it with a force that left you reeling in pain. Yet, you stifled the hurt, attempting to sweep it under the rug. Confessing your feelings to him was out of the question; it could shatter the friendship between you two.
"Is she your mate…?" You asked tentatively. Deep down, you were aware of the truth, but a tiny part of you still clung to the hope that he might say otherwise.
"Yeah… I can sense it," he admitted, a hint of shyness creeping into his voice.
Your hope was shattered.
"But we haven't marked… you know…"
"Alright, I don't need the details." You joked, trying to keep things light.
"Me neither," He laughed. "I should get going now. Hope you find your mate soon." He turned and walked away, not glancing back, leaving you with a heart that felt like it was breaking into pieces.
He spotted her right away and rushed off to find Jessica, his face lit up with a grin that was a complete contrast to how he acted around you. It was like you didn't even exist; you were just invisible. Every single time you tried to talk to Yunho, Jessica would magically show up and grab his focus. All you could do was stand there quietly, watching them laugh and chat, completely ignoring you.
A few hours later, you found yourself at the cafeteria, waiting for Yunho as you always did. The events of the morning still weighed heavily on your mind, but you tried to push them aside. However, the moment Yunho walked in, your heart plummeted. He was with Jessica again, their laughter ringing out like a melody, a perfect harmony that made your stomach churn. They seemed destined for each other, a bond that transcended any mark, hinting at a future you could only dream of.
"Hey, Y/N!" Jessica's voice cut through your thoughts, pulling you back to reality.
"Hey…" you replied softly, forcing a smile that felt more like a mask.
Her smile in return was laced with a sense of superiority, a silent acknowledgment of the power she held. You recognized it, but kept your thoughts to yourself. Then, your gaze fell on her necklace, its shape unmistakable—a piece that held memories of a shared childhood.
"oh…are you seeing this?" she said, deliberately playing with it. "Yunho gave it to me~"
"He gave you?!" The surprise slipped out before you could contain it. That necklace was a cherished gift from Yunho, one that you both had exchanged long ago. The realization stung, a mix of confusion and hurt flooding your heart.
"Yah yah yah. Who told me to lose the bet?" Yinho shook his head but a smile tugged on his lips.
"Bet?"
"Yes~ I thought this necklace was lovely, so I asked for it as a reward. He lost, after all. But I heard it was your childhood necklace? You don't mind, do you? We're friends, after all~"
"Don't mind?" A laugh escaped you, tinged with disbelief, but before you could voice your protest, Yunho interjected.
"She won't mind. And wait, did you just call me a loser?"
"Of course! Who else would it be?" Jessica teased, her laughter ringing out.
"Hey! Knock it off!" Yunho exclaimed, but they continued their playful banter, completely oblivious to your presence.
You felt like a mere spectator in a scene that should have been yours, the necklace—a symbol of your past—now a token of someone else's affection. The weight of it all became too much to bear, and you decided to make a hasty exit. The image of them together twisted your heart in knots. As you strolled, you began to toy with your fur, trying to keep your mind off things.
Tears started to form in your eyes as images of Yunho and Jessica kept flashing through your mind. That heavy ache in your heart was tough to shake off. Sitting alone in the quiet park, you stared into the sky. The silence felt overwhelming as you couldn't help but linger on those feelings of loneliness.
You gently grasped the necklace that Yunho gifted you in your childhood, handling it with utmost care. Though it was merely a simple shell, it held immense sentimental value for you. Over time, it has faded and lost its once vibrant shine. As you gazed at it, memories of your childhood flood back, filling your heart with warmth, yet a twinge of discomfort lingers... You let out a sigh, sinking once more into a sea of contemplation.
"Oh~ Let me see who's there?" Suddenly, a voice snapped you out from the deep thought. You looked up to see a figure walking towards you, their features obscured by the shadows. But you knew who he was based on his scent and voice. You brushed away the tears that had fallen down your face, trying to pull yourself together.
"You again?" You rolled your eyes, letting out a heavy sigh and turning around to avoid San's gaze.
"You cry?" He teased as he sat next to you.
"Why you care?"
"C'mon, you can talk to me if you'd like."
"Tsk…don't act like a nice guy."
"Don't pretend you're not secretly happy to see me~" He leaned closer, his strong musk scent filling your nostrils and making your heart race again. "So, what's got you all down in the dumps? Something is bothering you?" His voice was a bit softer, not matching his usual cocky demeanor.
You rolled your eyes, crossing your arms as San got closer. "You don't get to ask me that," you protested, trying to keep up your aloof front.
But he wasn't fooled, he saw through your tough act. He tilted his head slightly, studying your expression. "You sure about that? You look pretty upset, puppy."
You felt your cheeks heat up a bit at his nickname. You hated how he always seemed to know just what buttons to push.
"Don't call me that…" You huffed, trying to keep your cool demeanor.
"Ah c'mon, I know you actually like it when I call you that." San chuckled, moving even closer to you.
"Yeah right. Like you know me." You retorted, averting your gaze, not wanting to give him the satisfaction of seeing how flustered you were.
"You're acting like you hate it, but your face is already turning red~" He smirked, enjoying how much he was getting under your skin.
"Shut up!" You muttered, still not daring to look at him directly. Damn it! How was he always aware of how his presence and words affected you?
"Oh, now you're just being rude." He teased, feigning hurt. "I was trying to make you feel better, and you go and act like a little brat."
"I don't think so." You retorted. "You're just annoying me."
"You're mad, huh? You're so cute when you're mad, puppy."
"I'm not cute! And I'm not mad."
"Sure, you're not. You're just getting all flushed and stuttering for no reason." He moved his hand to poke your cheek, annoying you more. "You're such a bad liar, puppy."
"I-I'm not lying and don't touch me. You're annoying. Why did I not kick your ass in the last match?"
"Feisty one, aren't we?" He chuckled, rubbing your wolf ear slightly to make it twitch. "Let me guess…You are still thinking of that Yunho?" He said, his tone shifting to a more mocking tone. "It's kinda pathetic."
Shut up. You know nothing about me." You snapped back, feeling hurt by his words. It was true that you still thought about Yunho a lot, but you didn't want to admit it to anyone, least of all San. "I'm not pathetic."
"Really? Then why are you so hung up on him? You keep thinking about him all the time, it's foolish."
"I…I'm trying…" You mumbled, looking down at the ground. "It's just…hard."
"You've been saying that for a year now," San rolled his eyes. "Just stop moping around and move on. There are better wolves out there, you know."
"I know that…But Yunho…he's…he's different…"
"Oh, please. He's just another guy. There's nothing special about him, puppy." He crossed his arm, feeling annoyed. "You're just stuck in the past. You need to move on."
"I know that…" you repeated, your voice shaky. "But…it's not that easy. I…I can't just forget about him."
"Oh, how hard you're trying to defend him," he mocked. "You're just going to keep pining after some guy who doesn't want you."
His words caused your breath to hitch. It hurt, but it was true.
"You don't know…you don't understand…" You looked at San, clenching your jaw as you were struggling to keep the tears from falling.
San's eyes widened slightly when he noticed your red nose and watery eyes, but then his attention shifted to the necklace in your hand. A smirk crept onto his face as a mischievous idea crossed his mind.
"Yah~I don't know anything~" He suddenly stood up, looming over you with his tall frame. "All I know is that you're still into him and clutching that little gift he gave you." Before you could respond, he snatched the necklace from your grasp and started inspecting it.
"Hey!Give me back!! What're you doing!!" you shouted, lunging to reclaim it, but his height made it impossible.
"Is it a gift he gave you? How cheap~"
"Shut up and give me back! You fucking thief!" You leaped up, trying to snatch the necklace back, but he dodged effortlessly. "Don't make me bite you!"
"Oh no!The puppy is threatening me!I'm shaking in my boots!" San laughed at your threat, not taking it seriously in the slightest. "Try to get me, huh?" He started to run away from you after jokingly shielding himself from your grab.
"Stand here!!"
"No~stay back you puppy!" He couldn't help the smile that tugged at the corners of his lips as he dodged your attempts to catch him.
"Come back here!!"
"Not a chance! You're not taking it back today, no matter how pretty you are." He continued to back away, though he wasn't actually trying to escape.
"You die when I catch you!"
"Try hard, puppy~"
You darted around the park, mirroring the playful antics of two exuberant puppies. With every sprint, a wave of joy surged within you, washing away the irritation that once lingered in your heart. The echoes of frustration faded, replaced by the sweet melody of laughter.
Each time your bodies brushed against one another, a thrilling spark ignited, sending a delightful jolt through your veins that left you craving more.
Seeing you laugh so gleefully made San's heart swell with affection. He found your happiness contagious, his own smile widening. He didn't know why but he wanted to see your smile more.
"Ha!Catcha!!" You suddenly launched forward, leaping onto his chest and sending both of you tumbling onto the soft grass. "I told you I could catch you!" you declared, pinning his wrists to the ground as you settled on top of him, securing your hold.
"Oh no no no!Please let me go~~" He mocked, acting like a prey dramatically. You couldn't help but laugh at his words, totally forgetting you were straddling him, and the necklace.
"Happy now?"
"Uh huh. Looking at you underneath me is a good view. You know?"
"You're cruel, aren't you?" He rolled his eyes playfully. Seeing your smile, San couldn't help but soften, his 'pretend' annoyance fading away. He smiled back at you, appreciating the moment of lightheartedness between the two of you.
He slowly tucked your hair behind your ear, tracing a path along your jawline with his fingertip. "You know, it's cute when you smile like that," He blurted out before he could stop himself. His words and move made you two suddenly frozen for a moment as you realized how close you were, an awkward silence falling between you.
San's eyes widened at his own words, realizing what he had just blurted out. He quickly tried to cover it up with a joking tone.
"Ahem, anyway," he coughed awkwardly. "You're, uh, very flexible. It's not every day you see someone who can jump so high."
He felt his heart skip a beat, his cheeks slightly flushed as he avoided eye contact with you, not wanting you to see how flustered he was. You were still straddling him, and the realization of your proximity made his stomach flip.
"Yah, uh, can you get off me now?" San stammered, trying to play it off as a joke, but there was a hint of red on his cheeks.
His heartbeat quickened as your body was still on top of him, heat pooling in his core. He desperately wanted to flip you around and pin you down on the ground, but he managed to resist the urge. He cleared his throat, trying to regain his bearings. "So, er, are you gonna get up or what?"
You looked at San, feeling his flustered state beneath you. It was rare to see him so off-guard, and you couldn't help but feel a sense of satisfaction.
You smirked, enjoying the chance to tease him. "Hmm, what if I don't want to get up?" you said, deliberately keeping your weight on him, reveling in his increasingly flustered state.
San's face continued to burn red, his heart racing as you kept yourself pressed against him, a smirk on your lips. Damn, you were enjoying this little game, weren't you?
He tried to regain his composure, but the feel of your body against his was driving him insane. "Y-You're insufferable," he muttered, his voice wavering.
"Aw, come on, puppy~ You know you love it," You chuckled, loved seeing him so off-guard and vulnerable, it was adorable. You leaned even closer, pressing your chest against his. San's eyes widened at the intimacy of your position, his breath hitching in his throat.
"If you don't get off, I can't promise what I will do."
"Huh? Mind telling me?"
San let out a surprised gasp as he managed to flip you over in one fluid motion, reversing your positions and effectively pinning you down on the ground.
He hovered over you for a moment, his heartbeat racing as he looked down at your flushed face. The feeling of having you underneath him sent a jolt of heat through his body, making it hard for him to form a coherent thought.
His gaze darkened as he realized he now had full control over the situation, and he was enjoying it quite a bit.
"What–what're you doing?!" You gasped, taken back by a sudden change in positions.
"What does it look like I'm doing?" He asked, his voice low and dark. "I'm the one in charge now, puppy."
"You…you…don't you dare to do something…"
"Something huh?"
You turned your head away, avoiding his hot gaze as he leaned down more. Both of you were so engrossed in your playful teasing, neither of you noticed the newcomers at first. But the sound of clearing the throats snatched your attention, making you pause mid-step.
San, still in a joking mode, spun around to see Yunho and Jessica standing there, watching the spectacle with raised eyebrows.
"Yu…yunho??" You stared at him, a mixture of embarrassment and surprises washing over you. You couldn't help but freeze for a moment.
"Oh? Audience huh?" San mocked, soon calmed down from the surprise. "Try not to disturb us?"
Jessica's eyes flicked between San and you, a knowing smirk playing on her lips. But she didn't say anything, just observed the two of you with unabashed curiosity.
Meanwhile, Yunho's expression was unreadable. He seemed to be taking in the scene silently, his usually cheerful demeanor replaced by a more thoughtful air.
The silence hung heavily in the air, the atmosphere slightly tense. San could feel the weight of their gazes, wondering what they were thinking. He subtly glanced at you, wondering if you were uncomfortable.
Finally, after what felt like an eternity, Yunho spoke up, breaking the silence.
"Having fun, I see." His voice was nonchalant, betraying no particular emotion.
"Oh..yeah…um...just messing around, you know…" You said as you tried to get up, but San hold you firmly.
Jessica, however, was far less subtle, her smirk widening. "Yeah, definitely looked like more than messing around to me."
You tensed up at her comments, feeling your cheeks heat up further. San, different from you, shot her a glance, not appreciating the implications in her tone.
"Are you jealous?" He mocked. "Jealous to the point of spying on us?"
"We were just taking a walk and stumbled upon you two lovebirds." She said, a hint of amusement in her voice.
"Jessica," Yunho, who had been usually quiet, suddenly spoke up. "Could you give us a moment?"
"Well, Jessica. I think you won't bother us, right?" San added.
Jessica pouted a little bit at Yunho's stern look, but then her eyes flicked to San, a sly smile on her face.
"Of course, I'm a saint." She responded. "I'll just give you two lovelorn fools some…privacy…"
She gave you and San another smirk, making it clear she was poking fun at the situation.
"Thanks for that." San rolled his eyes.
Yunho waited until Jessica was out of earshot before he turned to you two, his expression serious.
"I need to talk to you both about something…important…" he began, his usually cheerful demeanor replaced by uncharacteristic seriousness.
"Okay, what's going on, Man?" San said, pulling away from you but still holding you firmly in his arms which made Yunho frown a bit.
"It's…it's about what we just saw now…" Yunho said, his eyes flickering between you and San. "I couldn't help but notice…the way you two were interacting, it didn't seem…just friendly?"
"It's not like that…" you cleaned your throat. "We're just messing around."
"That didn't look like just messing around," Yunho raised an eyebrow, looking unconvinced by your attempt to downplay it. "You were being pretty…touchy-feely with each other."
"It's just like you and Jessica. What's the matter?" San snapped back, causing Yunho's eyes to widen.
"That's…that's different…" Yunho was a little bit taken back. "She is my mate. And you, Choi San, is another wolf who doesn't belong to my clan. Now you are harassing my pack member."
"Ok wait wait wait- harassing?? Excuse me? Watch your mouth." San shot him a glance, pulling you even closer as his arm wrapped around your shoulder.
"What are you doing?! You get off me." you whispered against San's ear quietly but San ignored your words and tightened his grip.
"Why do you care that much? Because she is your pack member? Pfff…shut it. She is my mate. That's not business to deal with what's mine."
"You…two are…?" Yunho's eyes widened further, his expression a mix of shock and disbelief.
You, meanwhile, just stood there in shock as you hadn't expected him to claim that you were his mate, especially not in front of Yunho.
"Yunho…we–"
"Do I need your permission to touch my mate? What a nosy guy."
"Permission for what?" Jessica suddenly appeared again, sidling up to Yunho and looping her arm through his. She glanced at you two and let out a knowing chuckle.
"Nothing. Just your little boyfriend being nosy." San let out a scoff.
"Oh really? And why's that?"
Yunho, still looking a bit startled, just stood there silently, letting Jessica speak. He didn't know why. Knowing you had a mate caused him feel uncomfortable. You should hate San so much. But why? Why were you so close to him? Why were you his mate?
"It seems you are blind, huh?" A smirk played on San's lips as he mocked Jessica. "Can't believe you have a blind mate, Jeong Yunho."
"Hey!! I am not blind… I'm just observant, that's all."
"Then don't ask a question that is obvious already."
"How was I supposed to know you were…together? You didn't exactly announce it to the world. And you, Y/N, don't you hate him? But what now? You suddenly fall in love with him? Do you like seeking attention??"
"What—" Before you could snap back, San suddenly cut you off. "Mind your words, bitch. Y/N just mad at me because I had pissed her off. But now, she forgave me. Right? Y/n?"
You knew San was lying but you didn't stop him at all. On the other hand, you allowed him to fight for you.
"And we are not like you, attention seekers. We don't like showing off."
"Yah!! How rude you are!!" Jessica gapsed, feigning offense at his description of her. "You're just jealous! Can you blame me? I'm just…popular and beautiful." she said, leaning her head on Yunho's shoulder, a hint of cockiness in her tone. Yunho just sighed but not saying anything.
"We don't have time to talk to you dumbass. It's just wasting our energy. Let's go, love." San held your hand firmly, tugging you to leave.
Yunho was still processing everything that had just happened. He watched as San leaded you away, his expression a mixture of surprise and mild curiosity.
You followed San silently, feeling San give you a squeeze on your hand.
"Is it that Jessica always acts rude to you?" San suddenly said, pulling you back from the deep thought.
"Huh…hmm…" You nodded.
"You didn't fight back at all?"
"I…how…?"
"How?? Huh?? Seriously? You can kick my ass countless times in the match but can't do it towards her? What's wrong with you?"
"Hey! It's different! She…she is Yunho's mate.. our future luna. How can I fight back?"
"Pfff…I'm an alpha too and you still kick my ass."
"You're from another gang, okay? That's different…"
"Tch…bullshit. You just like bullying me."
"Yah! When did I bully you?! You're the one who keeps messing me up!"
"Don't say you aren't enjoying it~"
"I.."
San suddenly spun around, causing you to collide with his chest. "ouch..! What's wrong…?"
"Hey, dumbass."
"don't call me that–" He lifted up your chin, making you look at him. A blush creeped in your cheek, heat spreading through your body as he leaned closer.
"Listen. You're my mate. Mine. That means no one else gets to hurt you. I am the only one who gets to hurt you. Get it?"
"Who said I am yours? Don't be…" He placed a finger on your lips to stop your words.
"I asked, Get it? Yes or no. Don't you dare to say no."
"You…You're insufferable." You rolled your eyes. "Yes..yes…I understand it. Happy now?"
"Good." He gave a small grin and playfully tousled your hair. He really enjoyed teasing you, even if it meant making you cry. It was pretty amusing to see a tough little wolf, who had taken him down so many times, whimper like a puppy.
But then he thought about it. He only wanted to see you cry for him, not anyone else. He loved making you laugh, too, but only if it was because of him. A wave of protectiveness surged in his chest. He promised himself you would be his, no matter what. He wouldn't let anyone else take you away.
"And~~" He took out a necklace that Yunho gave you from his pocket, swaying it side to side in front of you. "I'll keep this. You can't keep it."
"What?! Give me back! That's mine!" You attempted to grab it, but he dodged and held you firmly against his chest.
"No no no~ I helped you to fight back that bitch! I should have a reward."
"Yah! Why you have to choose this!?"
"I chose what I wanted. That's it."
"It's unfair!"
"Nothing's unfair, puppy."
"I helped you, remember?"
"Fine. But why you tell her I was your mate? She must announce it to the world!"
"What? That's the truth."
"But we haven't marked–"
"Oh? That's what you mind?"
"Huh? That's not the point! it's…" He unexpectedly leaned closer and planted a kiss on your cheek. You were taken aback, your eyes going wide at the surprise. Your heart raced, and you could feel your cheek warming up again. For a moment, you just stared at him, completely stunned and at a loss for words.
"Wh–what was that for??"
"Finished marking~" He winked and joked.
Your cheeks turned an even deeper shade of red at his teasing. You brushed your fingers over the spot where his lips had just been, still feeling that lingering warmth.
"Hey! Are you just claiming me as yours or what?"
"Absolutely. You can't argue with that."
"Ugh… You're insufferable," you scoffed, rubbing your cheek and pouting. "We have to act like a couple now… for everyone else's sake…"
"Is that a problem?" San tilted his head, a smirk on his face. "You should be thrilled to be my mate."
"Shut it, you jerk! It's so annoying!" Even though you were acting annoyed, deep down, you found it amusing to watch San stand up to Jessica.
"So you're not against it?"
"What else can I do? There's no other option…" you pouted and mumbled. "I guess we can fake it."
"Good! Trust me, being my mate is the best thing ever."
"Enough already." You rolled your eyes. "I'm only going along with this because of Jessica."
"Huh? So she's your top priority? Not the whole 'lovey-dovey couple' act?"
"Who would want to pretend to be a cute couple with you?"
"You do."
"No, I don't!"
As you two bickered like kids, San realized it was time to head back to his clan. "Oh man, I've gotta go. Time really flies, huh?"
"Just go already."
"Don't you miss me?"
"Not at all."
"Ouch… that hurts."
"Just hurry up. The curfew is coming up."
"Okay, okay. Don't be so mean. See you tomorrow, my girlfriend."
"I really don't want to see you tomorrow." You rolled your eyes, shaking your head. But a small smile crept onto your face despite yourself. As he walked away, you let out a sigh you didn't even know you were holding in. "See you tomorrow…"
—-----
Everyone in the clan was aware that you're San's mate. No matter where you are, you could feel the eyes on you, filled with doubt or even judgment. The Wonderland clan, which San was part of, had a long-standing rivalry with your Aurora clan. This all started centuries ago when there was a fight over territory, leading to a full-blown conflict. It's only been about fifty years since things started to cool down, and now the two clans face off in friendly competitions instead.
Still, it seems like the tension between the two clans isn't going away anytime soon.
San never shies away from it. Ever since that day, he strides into your clan's training ground with a mischievous purpose. To him, you're merely a plaything; he delights in riling you up, only to lead you on a wild chase around the arena. Sometimes, he morphs into a wolf, snatching your weapon right from your grasp. The entire training ground has turned into his personal playground, much to the annoyance of your fellow members.
With each of his antics, your reputation takes a hit. It's clear he's out to humiliate you! That guy holds a grudge because he lost the last match, and now he's determined to "ruin" you. Ah, you really hate him! But you couldn't deny it. Being his 'girlfriend' made you feel happier.
You didn't know how to put this tangled feeling into words. Yes, you despised him, that was your firm belief this entire year. However, something was inexplicably different.
You would miss him, even feel a slight sense of disappointment when he didn't show up on time. As you reflected on this strange development, you couldn't understand how your feelings had so swiftly changed. You feel happy and relaxed when he's around, especially when he plays tricks on Jessica (such as burning her fur??). It's funny to watch how she freaks out and asks for help.
Your emotions had become a convoluted, tangled mess. How could you harbor both hatred and longing for the same person? It was as if your heart had a mind of its own, and no matter how hard you tried, it couldn't help but yearn for his attention. You were baffled and angry at yourself for allowing these feelings to develop, especially when just a few months ago, you had loathed him.
On the one hand, your past distrust of him has made you suspicious of his behavior; but at the same time, a part of you has gradually become addicted to his company. It was irritating and confusing, so damn much.
Once again, the time for that "competition" is drawing near. As the most formidable fighter in your tribe, it's only natural that you'll be called upon to represent them in this event. However, your situation is quite awkward.
You now prepared your garment backstage and a knock echoed on the door.
"Come in." You said, finding Jessica entering the room.
"What you want?" You said, even didn't raise your head.
"Just come to see you~~" Jessica sneered, sauntering over as you organized your gear at the training grounds. "I never imagined you'd turn your back on our clan just to chase after a mate," She leaned against a wooden post, arms crossed, her tone dripping with mockery. "I'm not like you. I won't abandon my people. After all, I'm the future Luna."
You tossed the protective gear into your bag, cutting her off mid-sentence.
"Is that all you can say? Always going on about the future Luna?"
"Heh, that's way better than your situation, traitor. Plus, Yunho and I share a bond that you and San will never have. Honestly, I think San is just messing with your heart. You should really think about leaving him. Don't chase after anyone for attention."
"Don't pretend I'm you." You shot back. "Apart from being a future luna, you are nothing. Also, Yunho still didn't mark and knot you. You don't have any right to judge me."
Jessica glowered at you, her irrational growing. "I have every right to judge you! You're pretending to be San's girlfriend just to piss me off, but everyone can see right through the facade. You're cheap, attention-seeker, and pathetic!"
"You really just want the spotlight, don't you? You're upset because I'm getting attention. You don't want me to have anyone special in my life. It's like you're determined to keep me from getting anything good! You stepped closer, hands on your hips. "Honestly, you're just a jealous, attention-seeking brat."
"Well. Let me tell you something. You're not special, and this little act of yours won't last. San will realise that soon enough, and he'll drop you like the cheap bitch you are!!" Jessica huffed, but her mean words didn't hurt you at all.
"Then let me tell you something too. Yunho will see right through your act, and he won't even think about marking you, even if you're his mate. You keep messing up, and no one will ever really care about you. You think you're a big deal in the clan? They just see you as a joke."
Jessica's face paled as your words sunk in. She tried to keep her cool, but it was clear that your words had hit her where it hurt. Her facade of confidence started to crumble, and a hint of vulnerability flashed across her face.
"It's…it's not true! I'm the most popular and all the wolves like me!"
"Just keep doing your thing in your little bubble," you said, giving her a quick look as you moved in closer. "Soon enough, you'll see I was spot on." You nudged her shoulder as you strolled off, leaving her there, feeling a bit frantic.
But when you opened the door, you saw Yunho standing outside. He looked at you with a serious expression.
"Can we talk?" he said, his voice low and calm.
"Of course," you responded, gesturing for him to come in. "Take a seat."
Yunho followed you inside and took a seat opposite you. Jessica immediately ran to him, looping his arm as if she was almost crying.
"Listen," he began, "about what happened with Jessica." You nodded, bracing yourself for whatever was coming your way.
"I wanted to talk about her. What you said to her... it was harsh."
"I know it was," you said, not meeting his gaze. "But I'm just defending myself."
"But you didn't have to be so aggressive about it," Yunho replied, his voice edged with a hint of impatience.
"Seriously? She can talk bad about me, but I can't? What's the logic?"
"It's not about logic…Y/N." Yunho rubbed his temple, sighing. "There's a difference between standing up for yourself and being cruel. You hurt her feelings badly."
"How weak is she then? Can't handle these words at all? Isn't she a future luna?" You were pissed off. You knew your words were too harsh for her, but what hurted you most was Yunho's reaction.
Yunho shot you a disapproving look. "It's not about weakness. It's about respect and empathy. She has many flaws, but that doesn't make it okay to go after her like that."
"So what can I do, huh? Not defending myself?"
"You can stand up for yourself, but do it with respect. Treat other people like you want them to treat you. And don't let others get under your skin."
"Then tell your fucking mate first! Don't speak to me with respect when she never respects me at all. Such bullshit!"
Yunho's eyes widened at your words, clearly taken back. "When you become like this? Y/N…? You won't be that cruel…After you got close to San, you totally changed…"
"I wasn't changed. I'm just tired of being her punching bag. That's all." you shot back, your voice sharp. "She thinks she can do anything she wants and I'm fucking sick of it."
"Why didn't you tell me before?"
"Tell you? Did you ever listen?"
"Of course I will listen. I care about you."
"Don't make me laugh. You know how many times you ignore me when Jessica suddenly pops up from nowhere?"
"I…I didn't realise…"
"You didn't realise??" you repeated, unable to hide your disbelief. "Jessica literally says your name and you turn around to answer her like I'm invisible."
"See? I said you were jealous!" Jessica suddenly chimed in. "You just want my Yunho's attention. But he's my mate! How dare you bother us! I know you are such a bitch who wants to steal everything from me! So I fight back and you hurt me like this!"
"What the fuck?! You–"
"Enough!" he said firmly. "Both of you, stop. Fighting."
Jessica looked sheepish, clearly caught out in her outburst. You, on the other hand, were still fuming. But Yunho's stern voice made you fall silent.
Yunho took a deep breath before speaking again. "Jessica, you had no right to say that, especially not like that. And Y/N, you need to learn to control your temper…you were not like that before…San isn't a good guy, you shouldn't be close to him…he…"
"Cut it out!! Don't you dare to talk bad to him." You, on the other hand, were struggling to keep your emotions under control. It was clear you cared about San deeply, and hearing Yunho speak about him in that way hurt.
"Y/N…" Yunho saw the look on your face and quickly backtracked. "That's not what I meant..." he said, trying to clarify.
"Then what do you mean?" you snapped back, your voice still tight with emotion.
Yunho sighed, clearly at a loss for words. "I just mean that San is...he's not the person you think he is."
You let out a scoff, rolling your eyes. "Oh, and you know that better than me, right?"
"I just...I've seen what he's like. He's not good for you, Y/N."
"Shut up already. You know nothing about him. Yes, he is annoying as fuck, always acting like a child to tease me non stop. But he's the one who gives me happiness that you never give me. I don't need you to judge him"
You cast a glance their way as you stepped out of the room. There was no use in saying anything further. You could tolerate their insults directed at you, but not those aimed at San.

The competition kicked off with a surge of excitement, as teams from various clans assembled on the battlefield, poised for action. The palpable tension between you, Yunho, and Jessica was unmistakable, drawing the attention of others, particularly San, who couldn't resist winking and teasing you with a mischievous grin. However, when he caught sight of your furious expression, he quickly realized something was amiss.
There was no time for him to inquire further. The bell rang, and chaos erupted as everyone scattered into the depths of the forest. The countdown concluded, marking the official start of the game. This was no ordinary contest; it was a high-stakes version of hide and seek. The team that was discovered would engage in a battle with their discoverer, with the victor earning one point, while the winning team would claim five points.
For the first several minutes, everything unfolded smoothly. But then, your team's fortunes took a sharp downturn, and many players began to fall. Your heart raced as you heard the grim updates about your teammates being eliminated through your headphones. You knew your team was stronger than this, so why did it feel like your position had been compromised?
Lost in thought, a familiar scent suddenly wafted beside you. Instinctively, you spun around and launched an attack. Yet, the figure before you effortlessly deflected your strike, a sarcastic smile playing on his lips.
"Hey, feisty as always, huh?Puppy."
"Choi San!!I know it's you!"
"Hm~You know my scent well huh?"
Without hesitation, you lunged at him again. He dodged with ease, seizing your wrists and pinning them against the tree trunk.
"Whoa, whoa, whoa~ What's got you all riled up~?" San teased, leaning in to catch a whiff of your scent. "Why the anger?"
The memory of your earlier confrontation with Jessica and Yunho flashed through your mind, igniting a fresh wave of fury.
"You're the one who knocked my teammate down, aren't you?"
"You're the one who took down my teammate, right?"
"Oh, so clever~ puppy~" San grinned. "You wanna know how I track them?" You just stared at him, waiting for his response.
"Your scent, puppy~ Your teammates carry your scent, making it super easy for me to track them down~ We've been together for so long, after all~"
"What?!You…?!You…So you get close to me to know and remember my scent…?"
"Hm~ There's nothing wrong with wanting to keep my mate's scent fresh in my mind~" San nodded, raising his eyebrows as he confessed. "And honestly, I can't help but use this to my advantage~"
"You jerk!!" You tried to shove him away, but his grip was too strong, and a part of you secretly liked it. He knew that, so he wasn't about to let you go.
"Pup~ That's just being clever."
"That's sneaky!"
You both were completely unaware that Jessica had been eavesdropping on your conversation. She had been tailing you, biding her time, waiting for the perfect moment to exact her revenge. It was only the unexpected arrival of San that held her back. Now, however, she had all the justification she needed to strike. You had betrayed the team, offering your scent to the enemy, and it was only right that you faced the consequences.
"You traitor!!" In the heat of your argument, Jessica lunged at you, transforming into her wolf form.
"What the—" Before you could even process what was happening, San swiftly enveloped you in a protective embrace, his hand cradling the back of your head as he shielded you from Jessica's fierce attack, turning his back to her.
Ouch! Her razor-sharp claws raked across San's back, sending a jolt of pain through him, even with the protective vest in place. He staggered forward, pressing his entire weight against you, wrapping you tightly in his embrace.
"San—!" Your eyes locked with his, the playful banter replaced by a deep well of worry and concern.
"Just hold on." He cupped your face, planting a quick kiss on your lips before turning to confront the frantic woman. She had expected her attack to land, but to her surprise, it had barely fazed him.
"You..." Jessica stumbled backward, her eyes wide with fear at San's fierce glare. Shouldn't you be helping your teammate?! Y/N!!" Her voice was laced with desperation, but her expression was menacing.
"Is she the one who got under your skin, love?" San teased, his voice dripping with possessiveness and protectiveness. "Let me handle this."
"How dare you…" Jessica gasped, taken aback. "Y/N!! Are you really just going to stand there while I'm in danger? You're supposed to be on my side! Think about what this looks like to the whole clan!"
You remained silent, your gaze drifting to San going behind you. Yes, he might have used your scent to outmaneuver your teammates, but he was also the one shielding you. On ordinary days, he was playful, calling you his little puppy and teasing you endlessly... but beneath that lightheartedness lay a genuine concern and affection that was unmistakable. At that moment, everything crystallized. You cherished how fiercely he defended you and the joy he brought into your life.
You were falling for him.
"I'm not on the team. I'm on San's side." You responded, your voice firm. "Whatever you like, I'm sick of you!!Don't you dare to order me!"
"That's right." San affirmed, stepping even closer. "She's mine."
"You've lost it... You've gone mad…" Jessica couldn't believe what she was hearing. Had you really chosen him over her own team?
"Enough already! You propelled yourself forward, charging at her with determination. But just as before, Yunho intervened, stepping in to block your advance. San swiftly caught you, guiding you down to the ground with care.
"What's going on, Y/N…?" Yunho stared at you, astonished. "She's on your team!"
"She never saw me that way! She was the one who struck first. Don't talk to me like that, Yunho!"
"That's enough." San's voice was firm, his gaze fixated on Jessica. "You've done enough damage for one night."
Jessica tried to protest, but the weight of San's expression told her it was useless.
Meanwhile, San's words struck a chord in Yunho, and his eyes flicked down to you, his concern growing.
"Y/N..." Yunho spoke up, his voice filled with confusion and worry. "This isn't like you. What's gotten into you?"
"Nothing was ever like it should have been." San interjected, his voice laced with the weight of years of concealed emotions.
Jessica's expression hardened at his words, clearly taken aback by his bluntness. "San..." She began, but he cut her off.
"No more excuses, no more pretenses." San's words echoed with a determined resolve. "She's mine, whether you or our team realizes it."
Jessica finally found her voice, her eyes flashing with fury. "You wouldn't dare…"
"Oh, I dare." San smirked, unyielding in his stance. "And I won't let go. She's mine, and I'll make sure she knows it."
Jessica's expression darkened at his words, her jaw clenching. "You're a fool, San. You know nothing."
"Perhaps I do." He shot back, a hint of a playful smile on his lips. "I know her better than anyone, and I'll do whatever it takes to keep her by my side."
"As if you've ever tried." Jessica gritted her teeth, her anger flaring. "You've always treated her like one of your conquests, your little plaything to toss aside when you got bored."
San's expression darkened, his grip on you tightening protectively.
"You have no idea what you're talking about." He shot back, his voice edged with a coldness that belied his growing irritation.
You swiftly broke free from San's hold and advanced, delivering a sharp slap to Jessica's repugnant face. The forest fell silent, everyone taken aback, until San let out a low chuckle.
"That's what you get. I'm done with you…" Your eyes locked onto Jessica, who was shielding her flushed face in disbelief, before shifting your focus to Yunho. "Two."
"Y/N…" Yunho stuttered, caught off guard. You removed the group badge from your arm, holding it up for him to see.
"You never stood up for me, did you?" You arched an eyebrow, scrutinizing him. "Every time you pointed fingers at me, claiming I should respect others, or accusing me of changing?! Haven't you changed? Do you even care about me? You don't! You weren't like this before! Ever since she came into the picture, you've changed completely!!"
"I..." He was at a loss for words, fully aware that you were right. It was he who had changed, not you. He had turned his back on you, he had stopped caring, he had driven you to this breaking point.
"I've had enough. I don't want to endure it anymore!" You hurled the group badge to the ground, signaling your departure from them. Your actions would be broadcasted to the entire clan through the conference's live feed, marking your exit not just from the team, but from the entire clan. Yet, you felt no remorse; your only concern was for San.
"Let's go." You grasped San's hand and led him away, leaving the other two in your wake.
You only paused once you had pulled him into a cabin, a place where the broadcaster couldn't intrude. You shut the door and immediately checked San's back, anxiety flooding you. Jessica's earlier attack had rattled you. If she had harmed San, you would never forgive her.
"Show me your back, okay? Does it hurt? Did she hurt you??" You said, unbuttoning his shirt with urgency. But San merely gazed at you with affection, relishing your worry for him.
"Hey, say something—"
He abruptly cradled your face in his hands, prompting you to gaze up at him. "Aw~ it warms my heart to see how much you care about me~ you know~"
You let out a frustrated sigh, your eyes rolling. "Can you just be serious for a moment? What if you end up getting hurt? You—"
Suddenly, he leaned down to press his lips against yours. San's kiss took you by surprise at first, but before you knew it, you were melting into the sensation. His lips were soft and warm against yours, and you could feel the heat spreading through your body. He cupped your face, pulling you even closer, and deepened the kiss, causing the heat to intensify even more.
He kissed you passionately, his tongue exploring your lips and searching for yours. You could hear him gasp against your lips, the sound growing louder and more desperate as he pressed you closer to him. His fingers gripped your hips tightly, as if he was fighting against the urge to take things even further.
San broke the kiss, panting as he looked at you. "Goodness…" He mumbled, his breath shaky and uneven. "You drive me goddamn insane, you know that?"
Before you could respond to his words, his lips found their way to your neck, nipping and sucking your skin to mark you as his own. "Mmmm…you taste so good, babe. I can't get enough of you." He ran his tongue over your lips again before slipping it into your mouth, dominating the kiss as he explored it.
His hands wandered over you, his touch gentle but tinged with a hint of possessiveness. His fingers slid under your shirt, giving you goosebumps as he traced the curves of your bare skin. "God…you feel so good…I could touch you like this all day long and never get tired of it."
He suddenly yanked at your shirt, making you gasp a bit. "I need this off, now." "San…" Your soft moan drove him wild. He couldn't hold back, quickly unbuttoning your shirt with a sense of urgency, some buttons popping off as he pulled at it roughly. Once the last button was free, he shoved the fabric off your shoulders and tossed it away.
"Much better."
His lips found your shoulder, leaving a trail of hot, open-mouthed kisses down your neck and onto your chest. San lowered himself to his knees in front of you, his eyes still burning with lust as he looked up at you. He wrapped his arms around your hips, dropping a peck on your stomach.
"Babe…I want to make you feel good…would you let me?" His hand reached the waistband of your pants as if asking for permission to pull them off. You could do nothing but nod, unable to find your voice as you were overwhelmed by the pleasure he gave you. San grinned, clearly enjoying the effect he was having on you.
"Good, dear. I promise you will never regret it." San positioned himself even lower, his lips inches away from where you want him most. Your pants dropped on the floor as he pulled them down, leaving you totally exposed to him. Without a warning, his face divided into your thighs, moving his lips all over your sensitive skin.
The room was quiet, the only sound was your heavy panting and his lips gently grazing against your clit. His tongue flicked out to taste you, licking away the juices flowing out from the core. A soft moan and whimper let out from San's lips as he loved how sweet you taste, how your body squirmed under his touch.
You couldn't help but arch your back, your fingers digging into the mattress as you tried to hold yourself together. "Please…there…more…"
"More hm?" He grinned, kissing and biting a bit on your sensitive spot.
"Fuck…"
"Here?" He repeated, darting out his tongue to lick over where you needed him the most. No words came out from your mouth but only heavy breathing, he knew that's a point to bring you to the edge and he won't have mercy on it. He kept repeating the same move, but with a little more pressure than the previous one, enjoying how your moan became louder and louder.
You couldn't help but roll your hips, pushing yourself closer to his lips as if your body was practically screaming for release. Just a little bit more, just more. He got the signals but he wasn't done with you yet. He wanted to draw this out as long as possible, to make you ache and squirm with need. San held back, teasing you with just enough touch to keep the fire burning, but not enough to push you over the edge.
"San…please…let me come…" You needed him, a gasp escaping your lips to plead for him to give you the release you so desperately need, but he just smiled and continued on.
"Patient, babe. Just a little longer…" He murmured against your skin. His lips danced over your flesh, never quite touching where you wanted them most.
You tried to be patient but it was so hard when every bit of you was on fire. Your body was wound so tight, the tension building until you didn't think you could take much more. His tongue traced a path over you, slowly, so slowly, but it was enough to make you arch your back and gasp, your fingers clutching at his hair, tugging little. He started by taking his tongue to taste you, but then he began to move, the wet muscle working slowly, gently.
"San…hmm…" Just when you thought it was too much, he pulled away, leaving you breathless and wanting for more. He just stood in front of you, a grin tugging on his lips.
"Beg for it, babe. Tell me how bad you want me."
"Hm…please…fill me…I need you…"
"Fill you huh? What do you want me to use to fill you up? My tongue? My cock? Or My cum?"
"Everything…please…don't stop…"
"Everything?You can't be that selfish…dear…You can only choose one…"
"Please…your cum…I need it…just make me feel good…"
"You ask for it."
He suddenly pushed you down, positioning himself between your thighs. You could feel his hardened length brushed against your swollen and blushed clit, the wetness from the pre-cum on the tip causing you to squirm a bit.
"I'll be gentle…at first…" He looked down at you, his eyes were dark and filled with a possessive desire. "But I can't promise what will happen later."
He inhaled sharply, the warmth radiating from you igniting a fire within him that he could no longer resist. With a decisive thrust, he entered you in one seamless motion. A gasp escaped both your lips, the sensation overwhelming as your body instinctively tightened around him, enveloping him completely.
You arched your back, eager to connect with him, your arms encircling his shoulders, drawing him closer. Each movement of his inside you felt like a claim, a possession that left you craving more. In that moment, nothing else mattered but the pleasure he was bringing to you.
San couldn't tell where he ended and you began, so lost was he in the pleasure of being joined with you. The way your body responded to his, the moan and gasp leaving from your lips drove him insane. His body felt like it was on fire, every nerve ending alive with sensation.
"You're mine." San growled, his words almost unrecognizable through the haze of desire. "Mine to claim, mine to mark, mine to mate…"
"Yes," You gasped, your voice little more than a whisper. "Yours, I'm yours." You wrapped your legs tighter around his hips, pulling him even deeper inside you, and you could feel the pleasure building inside you like a coiled spring ready to snap. You wanted to give yourself to him completely, to let him possess you in every way.
"Take me" you pleaded, your nails digging into his skin. "Take me entirely."
Your words like a trigger to him, your touches driving him closer to the edge, and he knew that he wouldn't be able to hold back much longer. He moved even faster, deeper, driven by a primal need to claim you as his own.
"Yes, honey. You're totally mine. He repeated, his voice ragged. "And I'm going to make sure you never forget it." San lifted your leg over his shoulder, changing the angle of his thrusts. His hard tip directly met the sensitive spot, causing your whole body to tense up.
"Oh god…don't stop…" The numbness and the excitement mixed together, driving you wild. You gasped and moaned his name over and over again as if it was the only word in your mind. Your hands were everywhere on his body, running over his chest and arms, nails digging into his skin.
The tension within your body sent a signal to him, your soaked wall tightening around his fat cock each time he shoved to the depth. He knew that you just needed a little more, and he was determined to give it to you in order to push his big knot inside you.
San leaned down, his mouth finding yours in a fierce, passionate kiss. You kissed him back without care, arching up your torso as you gave him over completely. You were lost in euphoria, lost in the feel of him inside you. Everything was just overwhelming but perfectly balanced.
A little growl let out from his tongue as he suddenly pulled himself almost all the way out of you, then surged himself back in. "San!!Fuck!!" "You…really…like it..don't you?" You both gave growls which were mixed with moans, and his grip on your hips got tighter. He began to move with more force, letting his instincts completely take over and he was no longer in control of his desire. He wasn't going to stop, not until he had taken you over the edge and pushed his knot inside.
His eyes roamed on your bare body, enjoying the sight of your chest bouncing up and down from his thrusting. "Look how beautiful you are…only me can pin you like this…Am I right, Y/N?" He suddenly stressed his last words, like he was using all his strength in his lower body to push against your tight walls. "Answer me." "Ye…yes…Only you…" You squeezed your eyes shut, forcing every breath from your throat. He penetrated so deeply that your entire body began to quiver, caught in the battle to maintain a steady breath.
"Come on. Louder, Y/N. I know how loud you can be." San grinned, slapping his hips right straight to the point you scream out his name loud. He tugged your wrists harshly, making your whole body left in the air. What you could do was wrap your legs around his waist, trying your best to steady yourself while he kept thrusting, thrusting and thrusting.
The skin slapping sound mixed your high-pitch moan and his heavy panting, making other noises fade away. Your back met the messy mattress once again as he pushed you down and folded you in a mating press. There was no mercy left but only raw emotion. His tip collided with the entrance of your cavity as if asking permission to enter inside.
"Hm…San…" "Let go," he whispered, his voice rough and gravelly. "Let go, and give in to me." "San…San…" "Come for me," He commanded one more time. "Now."
It was like a bolt of lightning, striking through your body and igniting your euphonia even further. You arched up towards him, your lips meeting his in a breathless kiss. Your body was shaking with the force of the release, juices flowing out like a spring and your wall stretched to allow San to push his knot inside in one go.
"FUCK!!!" "Hold on, honey…" A cry escaped from your lips as he shoved in without mercy. Excitement and pain blended together and heightened everything between you two. He pulled you up, positioning you to straddle on him. The knot went deeper as the tip entered your deepest, a hot wave running through all over your limbs as his white hot seed filled the cavity.
You wrapped around his shoulder with your arms, your eyes shutting tightly as he sunk his fangs inside your nape, releasing his pheromones. The primal drive to claim and possess you overwhelming his mind and body. He growled deep in his throat, his hands gripping your hips tightly as he pushed forward, ensuring his seed creamed all your cavity. "God…it feels good…" He let out a low murmur against your neck, the heat spreading through his body as his sperm kept splitting out non stop, filling your cavity literally full.
"San…it's…too much…" You breathed, still trying to catch your breath after the high. "I…I can't…" "Behave." He gave your hips a smack to silence you, his grip tight on your backside to keep you in place. The way your walls clenched around him, pulling him in deeper and sucked the sperm in drove him wild. He was obsessed with this feeling, the thought that you were entirely his, and he would make sure you must his, completely and utterly.
"Fuck…babe…" He let out a long throaty moan before capturing your lips in a fervent, possessive kiss, his body pressing against yours in a relentless, commanding rhythm. "You belong to me now… eternally mine…" he breathed against your mouth, his voice a low, urgent whisper. Just as you opened your mouth to respond, his lips crashed against yours once more, his tongue delving into your mouth with a wild, primal fervor.
As the pleasure subsided, the kisses became less passionate but instead tender and soft. He held you in his arms, slowly parting from your lips and pressing several soft kisses all over your face and neck. His touch was gentle and loving, different from his rough self. "You're beautiful…Everything about you is just perfect…"
You smiled weakly, your body still trembling with aftershocks. "You're not so bad yourself," you managed to say, your voice a little hoarse.
"Not so bad?" San asked, feigning offense. "Is that all you have to say to me after I just rocked your world?" A cheeky grin spread across his face. "I'm hurt, sweetheart. Hurt."
"You're not really hurt," you said, rolling your eyes at his playful pout. "You just like making a big deal out of yourself."
San pretended to ponder this for a moment before speaking. "You might be right," he finally admitted. "But can you really blame me? I am pretty amazing." He gave you another cheeky grin.
You rested your head on his shoulder, smiling a bit. "I have nowhere to go now… but you knitted me…that means I'll follow you everywhere."
"That's my pleasure." San responds to you with a loving smile, giving you another deep kiss. "I'll never let you go from me."
"Is that a promise?"
"That's a swear." He pushed you down on the bed again before drawing you into a passionate kiss.
At this point, everything else fades into insignificance. Yunho and Jessica who once occupied your thoughts are now mere shadows; your heart is set on being with San, and nothing else holds any weight…
Oh... it seems the game has slipped your minds entirely as well.

─── ・ 。゚☆: *.☽ .* :☆゚. ───
standing up you fixed your pale blue blouse and tight black skirt, strutting through the libertys tunnel doors.
the new york liberty now stood at a new record of 17 wins, the number one best in the eastern conference.
questions cascaded your mind to ask the panelist, breanna stewart and jonquel jones yet none of them sounded good enough.
you practice with yourself still strutting down the empty stadium hallways.
“how did losing in the commissioners cup fuel the fire tonight to win by almost double digits?”
you scoff, kicking yourself at the originality…no.
“looking back at your previous loss to the lynx, what part of their game did you study coming into this one?”
this time a sigh exited your mouth.
hm a little better, but still no. you needed an obscure question for this post press.
you like to pose questions to athletes that bring out a side of them no one’s seen. whether it be excitement or vulnerability.
your companies sports articles offered rarity to sports news and discussed various, taboo topics, outside of ball.
wanting to impress your boss, this conference was to be no different and you needed a fun statement for this upcoming article.
as you entered the room voices could be heard everywhere. chatter was ambient, fellow reporters waiting patiently for the athletes to make their appearance.
looking around for a seat you find one in the front row off center to the left.
ten more minutes pass and suddenly complete silence takes over the room. shuffling in is breanna stewart and jonquel jones.
amungst the tallest in the meeting their prescence is almost intimidating.
sitting down right in front of you is stewart who’s expressionless. that is till her large dull eyes connect with yours and somehow it feels like it’s just you and her.
the two of you were fimiliar with each other, performing interviews here and there, but a true discussion was never held.
you take a deep breath looking around the room once more, and the press conference begins.
after thirty minutes or so the mediator announces.
“yes, final question coming from the front row, satin blouse.”
painfully boring questions had been thrown at them both left and right, now, finally it was your turn to do the talking.
you wiggle in your seat and inflate your chest to instill confidence. first introducing yourself and your company you lock eyes with breanna for a countless time and speak.
“…after a tough win, stewart i see you’ve changed into something more comfortable…” you look stewie up and down.
she he wore black sweat pants and a wife beater so tight her nipples, hard as ever, poked through perfectly.
“…fitting since you recently released new lounge wear to go with your new shoes color way. is it everything you envisioned and where is your brand going?”
stewie takes her hands and drags her palms down her chest and chuckles.
“yea it uh- doesn’t leave much to the imagination now does it” smirking directly at you.
“no, it doesn’t” shaking your head, you biting your bottom lip seductively.
jj takes notice of your flirtatious encounter, deciding to interject. “man if y’all don’t get a room or answer the question, we trying to get out of here!” stewie whips her head to her teammate laughing with her hands on her face.
“sorry…yea no the collection is called city of love and i’ve been dying to talk about it so thank you that’s a great question.”
stewie finishes up her statement as she watches you finish up your notes and record her the rest of her statement.
“alright, if that’s it we’re all free to go” the woman over the conference says.
breanna and jonquel thank everyone who attended and you place everything in its designated area in your purse.
feeling eyes on you, you take one more look around the entire room catching stewies bolted on your skirt.
you glance down and rush to pull down the fabric that had bunched exposing more of your bottom half than you’d like.
walking over to the exit where stewie stood you place yourself right infront of her. standing tall to her ear and whisper a quick message, “stop being a pervert.”
not taking another look at you she rubs her face with her hands as the other draped her side.
you roll your eyes and walk out into another empty hallway.
on your trek to leave the stadium you gaped, appreciating the structure now that it was almost vacant.
all that could be heard were the clicks of you heels against the tiled floor.
while nearing the exit, the ache in the balls of your feet were enough to need to sit down for a quick minute.
spotting some bar chairs you throw your purse and the rest of your belongings on the table before deciding to take a seat.
relief infiltrating your body, especially your feet.
kicking your heels off you huff “jesus christ.”
suddenly hearing footsteps behind where you sat, you can’t help but to turn your head.
the women behind you catching your eye, rightfully so. still in her lightly worn wife beater and sweats, breanna stewart appeared.
she took it upon herself to sit at your table and you watched as she did so.
“figured you could use some company.”
“i don’t but you’re welcome to sit..” you joke.
“ouch” she laughs.
there’s a pause of silence with you both looking at one another.
“you uh- with someone, single?” breanna blurts.
“what- who’s asking?” the questions catching you by surprise.
breanna points at herself signaling she wants to know, and in the blink of an eye she’s standing, towering above you in your chair.
you waste no time to stand up yourself as two can play that game.
“is there an issue stewart?”
you put a finger in her chest, pushing breanna outwards.
“you tell me” she says snarkily.
“honey you’re the one looking up my skirt” you counter argue.
“who’s to say you didn’t do it on purpose?” stewie shrugs with a toothy grin.
“ugh please” your bickering coming to an end as you turn on your toes and slip your heels on to head out.
that is till stewie pushes you against one of the surrounding walls. flipping you around to then face her. “oh shit-“
stunned, she left you pinned, arms by your side.
stewies grin gone, she gets just centimeters from your face
“listen, honey, not a single word leaves these lips while we’re here”
your breath hitches “okay..” eager for breanna to do whatever she wants to you, you comply.
“thank you baby” she says beginning to kiss on your neck, each sloppier than the one before.
you lightly close you eyes and in mere minutes she trails the hand that was once pinning yours up and down your thigh.
lifting your left leg to cradle her waist she then brings the hand to the hem of your skirt toying with it before reaching under.
your mouth agape ready for her digits to explore your cunt. moans escape your lips as grunts escape stewies.
she pauses removing her hand from to skirt to simply hold your leg in place.
your eyes flutter open to reveal breanna studying you and your face, the dimly lit stadium behind her.
“what’s wrong?” you whine.
she shakes her head. “nothing, i just wanted to make sure you wanted to do this” letting your leg fall. her accent being so thick made your pussy throb all the more.
you nod you head. “yes, i want you right here, right fucking now, no one’s here this late.” the corners of your mouth pull upward.
breanna pulls you off the cold wall for just a moment only to slap your ass.
“stewart!” you giggle, once again liking how rough she was being with you.
she returns the smile, her gums showing.
“even if there wasn’t i know you’d like a crowd”
you playfully slap her chest. “who’s the pervert now” she teases.
ignoring her comment you eye breanna, shimming off your panties and reaching for her hand, yearning to be touched. you place her hand back on your hips as you hoisted your leg over breannas waist again. she does the rest pecking your ear, then your jaw.
gliding her hand over your clit you groan at the sensation. “stewie go faster, or put your fingers in me, now-.” stewie cuts you off with a demanding kiss. no longer wanting to hear the attitude you were giving her.
stewie continues to rub your clit in agonizingly slow circles.
feeling how slick your hole was, she then knew you were ready for her fingers, her long, slim fingers.
you drag out a load moan as she inserts not one but two, her middle and pointer.
pumping her fingers in and out of you, you become more and more vocal.
“shit”
“mm fuck, just like that!”
“stewie baby, i’m sooo close” tears running down your face.
you felt drunk, spiraling with how good your body felt, tingles radiated all over.
her two fingers sped up and she rubbed your clit vigorously with her thumb. the new friction sending you over the edge, orgasming.
the audible gasp and sloshing of your pussy’s juices were all breanna needed to come herself.
your knees buckled forcing you to collapse.
you would’ve hit the floor if breanna wasn’t there to catch and pull you in.
whimpering you regain your balance and embrace stewie in a hug, tired but in bliss.
she kisses your temple.
“you’re so beautiful”
with your head buried in her neck, stewie feels you smile against her pale skin. “you did so good for me”
the praise erupting butterflies in your stomach.
you finally look up her eyes glazing your face and the tear that stained your makeup.
you release from the hug, putting everything back in its place, your skirt, your hair and…
“you forgot something” stewie says, holding your underwear in front of her face
“oh- you’re sick” you say as she shoves them in the pocket of her sweats. you throw your head back in laughter.
“call me” she says nearing exit of the stadium.
you laughed “why so you can start a collection of my panties?!”
“exactly.”

conflict of interest
pairing: frank castle x fem!reader
summary: another run in with your ex creates a problem with frank. billy is eager to step in and let him handle it.
warnings: swearing, billy being an instigating lil shit (yes that needs a warning, the man is a walking red flag)
word count: 2.8k
a/n: this is just a short lil filler chapter to help with pacing as i try to map out the progression of where this is all gonna lead. i thought it would be a nice lil break from the heaviness so far, bc frankie desperately needs to have a good time. as always, feedback is welcomed/appreciated!
[previous chapter] | [next chapter] | [series masterlist]
The clearing of someone’s throat momentarily broke your concentration, but you didn’t glance up from your computer screen, fingers still furiously typing away as you tried not to lose the creative flow that was pouring out of you.
“Yeah?”
You were so focused on finishing up your sentence that you almost didn’t hear the airy sigh laced with slight annoyance that preceded a voice you had been trying to forget about since last week.
“Do you always show your visitors this much undivided attention?”
All at once your assault on your keyboard halted, and you lifted your gaze to look just over your computer screen to confirm that the voice matched the intruder you thought it was.
Steven.
You didn’t even bother to hide your own irritation at his unwelcome presence, glaring at him silently for a full thirty seconds before returning your attention to your article.
“What do you want?”
Hearing him sigh again was like hearing metal nails screeching across a chalkboard.
“I wanted to follow up with you about the article. I haven’t seen anything yet-”
“I handed it off to the original journalist.”
“What? Why?”
Letting out an exaggerated sigh of indignation, you made a show of pulling your hands away from your keyboard, looking up at Steven with your full, undivided, very thin strand of patience laced through your fiery attention.
“Conflict of interest.”
There was a mixture of disappointment and confusion etched clearly onto his features. He wasn’t used to not getting his way, or you being so cold with him, and clearly it was getting to him. The thought of causing him any kind of distress made you want to smile, but you did your best to keep it off your lips, knowing he would take it as an indication you enjoyed his presence.
“Now, if you don’t mind-”
“Can we just talk?”
“We have nothing to talk about.”
“Oh come on, Y/N. I haven’t seen you in…years. I think there’s definitely some things for us to catch up on.”
Eight. It had been almost eight years since you last saw him. He couldn’t even fucking remember how long it had been. The overconfident smile on his lips only made you want to grab your computer off your desk and throw it directly at his face.
If only it was heavy enough to actually do some damage.
“I don’t want to catch up, Steven. I have work to do, and a deadline to meet. Now-”
“Babe, come on-”
A sharp knock to your door pulled both of your attentions over to that direction, and your brows furrowed slightly seeing another familiar pair of brown eyes staring directly at you.
Billy casually strolled into your office, giving Steven a severely unimpressed side eye that traveled up and down intentionally slowly, flickering his gaze back up as he arched one of his dark brows in question.
“Price.”
Steven stood up a little straighter when Billy surveyed him, giving him his own once over, although his seemed to be composed entirely with confusion.
“Russo.”
As they stood there locked in what seemed to be an immature staring contest, your eyes kept darting back and forth between them, eventually settling on Billy.
“What, do all you rich people just…know each other?”
Billy narrowed his eyes as he stared at Steven, and the second Steven broke his gaze to glance at you, Billy turned to face you, a wolfish grin splitting across his lips as his eyes glowed victoriously.
“Not exactly, doll. Us self mades tend to steer clear of the trust fund dependents.”
Billy flashed you a wink as he rounded your desk to come stand next to you, and you had to fight the laughter that threatened to spill noticing the look of pure offense on Steven’s face. You weren’t sure if Billy could sense that there was history between the two of you, or if he was just feeling extra flirty today, but when he bent down to press a kiss to the top of your head, it completely caught you off guard, and your cheeks flushed with heat as you glanced up at him, unable to stop the bashful smile that tugged at the corner of your lips. Billy gazed down at you with a smirk as he leaned against your desk, shamelessly letting his eyes wander over you.
“Well, don’t you look pretty. As usual.”
“How the hell do you know him?”
For a second you had almost forgotten that Steven was in the room, and as you turned your head to look at him, you noticed that his cheeks had turned slightly pink from the anger that was burning in his eyes. But before you had a chance to speak, Billy cut you to the chase.
“I own the company that’s keepin’ her safe. Speakin’ of-”
Billy glanced around your office curiously, as if he had noticed something was missing, and his eyes finally settled on yours once again as he lifted both of his brows.
“-where’s the big guy?”
“Doing a perimeter check, said he needed to stretch his legs. He should be back any second.”
“Who’s the big guy?”
Glancing over at Steven, your brows pulled together near the center of your forehead, staring over at him like the answer was the most obvious thing in the world.
“Frank.”
Steven’s features immediately dropped in dejection at the mention of Frank’s name, and he blinked a few times before his face contorted in skepticism.
“You call him the ‘big guy’?”
“You saw him.”
“He’s not that big.”
Billy chuckled darkly as Steven crossed his arms over his chest like a disobedient child, arching one of his dark brows in his direction as a devious smirk pulled across his mouth.
“Sounds like somethin’ someone small would say.”
As if on cue, the door to your office suddenly slammed shut, the sound reverberating in your office like a clap of thunder through the clouds, and the amusement on your face immediately vanished seeing the pure, unbridled rage in Frank’s eyes. Steven’s face seemed to pale, noticing that Frank’s attention was solely on him, and in one swift motion, he was seeking shelter behind your desk. His proximity to you only seemed to piss Frank off further, and Billy wordlessly grabbed the back of your chair to pull you closer towards the side of your desk he was sitting on.
“The fuck is he doin’ here?”
“He’s apparently got a death wish, Frankie. Lucky for you, Price, Castle here is somethin’ of a genie.”
Billy’s voice was full of pure amusement as he glanced over at Steven, very clearly enjoying the fear he saw evidently in his eyes. You didn’t know if Frank had told him about your interview with Steven last week, or anything about the two of you in general, but if there is one thing you had learned about Billy, it was that he was an instigator.
Steven squared his shoulders as he laughed dryly, glancing between Frank and Billy with that same signature cocky smile he seemed to have been born with.
“You’re not gonna cause a scene in public, and certainly not with someone running for District Attorney.”
In that second, you almost felt for Steven, because he had gotten so comfortable with his status and his family name, that he truly believed he was untouchable.
But he didn’t know Billy and Frank.
“No?”
Billy cocked his head to the side slightly, a dangerous glint in his eye as he stared Steven down once again with a smirk still on his lips. Sneaking a glance over at Frank, you noticed that he hadn’t moved an inch. His stony features were set in a hardened expression, jaw tense with anticipation, and eyes glowing with wrath. His hands were clenched so hard at his sides, the skin over his knuckles matched the color of the bone beneath. His nostrils were flaring with vicious exhales, and his shirt looked like it might split open across his chest from how hard he was breathing.
But still he didn’t move.
It was like he was waiting for something…a signal or approval or…
Permission.
For the first time since Frank entered your office, you noticed that Billy’s hand was held out in his direction, in a gesture that looked like ‘stop’. Glancing between the look on Billy’s face and Frank’s position by the door, suddenly it all clicked.
Frank was waiting for Billy to let him loose.
That epiphany had a shiver cascading down your spine remembering the damage that Frank inflicted on the man that had grabbed you in the bar. As you went to stand to quickly try and diffuse the situation, Billy grabbed onto your shoulder with his other hand and pushed you back down into your seat, giving it a gentle squeeze as if to silently say stay. He was the only one in the room that didn’t look nervous, concerned, or angry. He was enjoying this.
Billy’s touch on your shoulder didn’t go unnoticed by Steven, and his jealousy apparently outweighed his will to live as he twisted his face up in annoyance and took a step closer towards you.
“I wouldn’t do that if I were you.”
You didn’t need to look at Billy to know that he was smiling. You could hear it in his voice. Something in his eyes must have caught Steven’s attention though, because he quickly stopped his advancement, narrowing his eyes as he scoffed.
“And why’s that?”
“You see, I own the company that’s currently protectin’ her. Frank is her assigned bodyguard. This pretty girl right here was threatened by a terrorist group, one of which we don’t know who all the members are, could be anyone. Which makes you, Price, a suspect, a target, and fair game all in one. Up to you how you want this to go.”
Those words had all the color draining from Steven’s face. There was a tint of a warning in Billy’s tone that heavily suggested if Steven made the wrong choice, no one in this room would be held responsible for the aftermath. His blue eyes frantically darted between Billy and Frank before finally landing on you. You gave a subtle shake of your head, but you could see the arrogance in his eyes, and before anything stupid could come out of his mouth, you lightly nudged Billy’s hand away from your shoulder and placed yourself in between all of them like a protective barrier.
“Look, Peter is the one working on your article. He’s right down the hall. You can go check with him on its progress. I think he actually wanted an original shot of you to go with the article, alright? Go talk to him.”
The defiance in his eyes as he looked directly over your head to stare between Billy and Frank made you want to scream. Part of you was ready to give up completely, wanting nothing more than to step aside and let him face the consequences of his unwavering narcissism. But an even bigger part of you was fed up with all the rampaging testosterone in the room, and your patience with the man in front of you had worn out eight years ago.
It was steadily beginning to run out with the other two.
Throwing your hands up in exasperation, you laughed humorlessly as you turned around and pointed to all three of them.
“Alright. Out.”
Billy flashed you an expression of innocence as he held his hands up in surrender, a very clear look of ‘what did I do’ splayed across his features. You shook your head as you pointed an accusatory finger in his direction.
“You are not turning my office into a crime scene, William. And you-”
All of the anger radiating from Frank seemed to dissipate the second you pointed your finger and hardened gaze at him. The way his large brown eyes transitioned from being narrowed with murderous intent to wide with surprise and a little trepidation nearly made you lose focus for a second. You hated when he looked at you with those big, puppy dog eyes that made you forget why you were pissed at him in the first place.
“You are not committing any crimes in my office, Castle. If you three want to keep your little pissing contest going, do it outside. I don’t have time for this shit.”
“But I didn’t-”
You angrily reached out to grab Steven by the collar in one hand to cut off his protests, your other hastily gripping onto Billy’s tie, using all your strength to drag them both towards the door where Frank was standing.
“Shut up. I don’t wanna hear it. Out, all of you.”
Frank’s lips parted slightly in surprise as he stared at you in shock, glancing between Billy and Steven before looking back at you.
“Sweetheart-”
“Out, Castle.”
As soon as you shoved all three of them outside your office, they started bickering amongst themselves. You slammed your door shut as hard as you could, stalking back over towards your desk with a huff as you sat down, harshly tapping at your keyboard to unlock your computer as you grumbled under your breath.
“Fucking men.”
Not even fifteen minutes later, there was a light tapping at your door, and you let out a heavy exhale of vexation.
“What.”
The sound of your door creaking open had your eyes snapping up, and you were met with two sets of very nervous looking brown eyes. You arched one of your brows quizzically as you stared over at them. Billy cleared his throat as he gestured behind himself.
“Price left.”
“And?”
Billy turned his attention to Frank, lifting his brows with an expression of incredulity, to which Frank slightly pursed his lips and shrugged. As the two of them silently communicated, you let out another heavy exhale.
“Is there a point to all this?”
Frank nudged Billy in the ribs, to which Billy furrowed his brows in an expression of discontent. Frank rolled his eyes as he pointed to Billy’s hand, and when Billy glanced down at it, he looked up at you with a charming smile and held up what looked to be a pizza box like it was a trophy.
“We brought lunch.”
Billy eyed you curiously when you finished off your slice of pizza, and when you shot him a glare, he simply chuckled as he looked over at Frank in amusement.
“You weren’t kiddin’. She is grumpy when she’s hungry.”
Billy’s words had your eyes widening, and you whipped your head around to face a very guilty looking Frank that had paused mid-bite. He quickly set his slice of pizza down and started to shake his head.
“I didn’t-”
“You asshole!”
Frank’s mouth hung open slightly as he furrowed his brows, glancing between you and Billy as he started to protest.
“I didn’t say that-”
“Then what did you say?”
Billy snickered as he watched Frank stumble over his words, picking up another slice of pizza as he left his best friend to drown in the middle of your violent storm without offering a raft. Frank’s mouth opened and shut several times as you stared him down, his shoulders deflating as he sank back in his chair.
“Didn’t call ya grumpy. That was all Bill. How come you ain’t on his ass?”
“He didn’t call me grumpy behind my back.”
“Aw, for fucks sake.”
Frank crossed his arms over his chest, shaking his head slowly as he glared silently out the window. Glancing over at Billy out of the corner of your eye, he flashed you a wink when he caught your smile, and you couldn’t help but start to giggle. It really wasn’t fair how cute Frank looked when he pouted. It was also absolutely hilarious to see such a big and intimidating man pouting like a child in time out. As soon as the sound hit his ears, Frank swiftly turned his head in your direction, and the look of pure displeasure on his face had you and Billy both laughing uncontrollably.
“Fuck both of y’all.”
Frank reached over to grab the pizza box off your desk, lifting his legs up to place both of his worn boots over it as he finished off the slice he was working on.
“Y’all can get your own fuckin’ pizza next time.”
“Aww, come on Frank. Don’t be so…grumpy.”
Frank arched one of his dark brows and gave you a pointed look at the teasing tone that accompanied your smirk. Billy folded his arms behind his head, nodding his head over in Frank’s direction with a grin.
“Yeah, have another slice, Frankie. It’ll make ya feel better.”
Frank grumbled under his breath as he flipped both of you off, picking up another slice of pizza to shove into his mouth.

Let's Talk About the Alien vs Predator Films
Talk about wasted potential, am I right?
I'm struggling to format this in an interesting way, since so much has been covered over the past 20 years since the first film was released. You can read my thoughts on Aliens Franchise and the Predator Franchise as well.
Note that it doesn't include Alien: Romulus, but suffice to say it was a good movie!
I think the best place to start is with covering the themes of Alien and Predator, and the history before these films were created (and the failure of Fox).
My fellow AvP enjoyer @agendergorgon has already posted some thoughts on the topic, giving me a lot to think about, so check out their blog too!
For the purposes of this review, I am not going to include Alien 3, Alien: Resurrection, Prometheus, nor Alien: Covenant.... mostly. The AvP films really don't take much of anything beyond the first two films, though I will touch on Prometheus when it comes to religion.
Ditto for the Predator films, but that's because Predator wouldn't get a third film until 2010, 3 years after the AvP duo.
The themes of Alien Franchise:
I'm sure the first thing to come to mind is that the Alien series is about sexual assault, and you'd be correct. The xenomorph is designed to be extremely phallic, the facehuggers quite literally rape their victims, Burke locks his victims (including a child) in a room to be raped, Ash tries to murder Ripley by thrusting a rolled up porn magazine down her throat etc etc.
Some of you might also remember how Aliens was noted by James Cameron to be a criticism of the Vietnam War, Corporate Greed, and the callous arrogance of the US Military. The xenomorphs represented the innumerable "faceless" soldiers that could overwhelm more advanced enemies with ambush tactics and numbers, Burke thinks only in "goddamn percentages" and how this could benefit himself and the company, and the Colonial Marines are not only woefully mismanaged a newly brought on commander but also completely delusional with their own sense of invulnerability, only to break and panic under pressure once they meet a foe who is determined to fight to the death.
(I will NOT be tackling the fucked-upness of comparing people fighting for their independence vs a fucking Xenomorph, because holy fucking shit, it is literally the opposite AND worse counterpart to having the Predators be colonizers)
But, in the broader scope of the series, Alien - and the xenomorph - represent the uncontrollable, unfathomable, unknown. What are they? Why were they there? What are their motives? How did they end up in that ship? Were they built? How do they 'see'? Why did the xenomorph spare Jonesy the Cat? Are they intelligent life? How on earth do they function with their bizarre biology?
We don't get any real answers to these questions in the original films. The whole point of these movies is that there are things that mankind does not understand, and the horrors of space are vast. And equally terrifying is the arrogance of man (and synth kind) to think they can harness this horror for profit at the expense of human lives.
The themes of the Predator Franchise:
There's been tons of articles on how Predator is either a reconstruction or deconstruction (depending on who you ask) of the 80's action hero flick. A team of muscle laden, big gun toting, sweaty men spouting off one-liners as they mow down their enemies in a secret CIA led operation during the Cold War, interrupted by the presence of an intergalactic hunter than treats these badasses like mere toys. The massive Arnold Schwarzenegger is smacked out like a mouse facing off against a particularly cruel cat, needing to rely on tricks - not his brawns or guns - to stay alive and eventually defeat the Predator.
Others might point to its related take down of machismo. The opening scene is rife with characters testing each other's physical strength against each other such as with Dillon and Dutch, Ventura and Dutch have a small face-off in the helicopter as they try to make a pecking order, Ventura makes a whole speech about being a "sexual tyrannosaurus" and then mocked about sticking a gun up his "sore-ass", Hawkins repeatedly tries to make pussy and sex jokes, and they end up with a single woman in the group who is treated more like an object and baggage than a person for much of the movie. All of these men are emasculated by the Predator, some of them not even lasting a single second to its predations (both in tech and physicality), all of them losing any sense of quips and confidence, and the sole woman of the group survives because she didn't fit the movie's (and Predator's) mold of "tough as nails". When Arnold/Dutch is rescued by helicopter, it's not a cheerful one; he's haunted by what he endured and remains silent as the film pans into his thousand-yard stare.
All of this applies to Predator 2 as well, amping up the violence, dick measuring, and rules of the Predator targeting anyone who thinks they are tough shit for carrying a gun or knife. Even Danny Glover's victory is bittersweet, because he is now left in the middle of dozens of officer deaths, and entire subway car filled with corpses, and an antique flintlock pistol that promises the return of the Predators to Earth.
In a much broader sense, the Predator films are about the oversaturation of violence and lack of care for human life. Predator 1's main plot before he arrives is the CIA using Green Berets and then Dutch's special ops team to clean up their dirty work, giving them false information and not even reporting the Berets being MIA in furtherance of their Cold War goals (slaughtering guerrillas who were working with Soviet Russia). In Predator 2, the police are seen as being ineffective because they trample on each other's jurisdiction, with the Federal task force being willing to kill their own cops to keep the Predator existence a secret and letting it hunt people down for a better chance at capture and experimentation.
The Predator creatures are the epitome of such greed and arrogance. They are the General Zaroffs of The Most Dangerous Game, taken to a new height by showing that human lives literally mean nothing to them beyond a trophy hunt. They care nothing about our social lives, our politics, our loved ones, because for them this is nothing more than the equivalent of posh British Elite going on a Fox Hunt: cruel and sadistic, just to placate their egos. They will violate the corpses of the dead and taunt those in mourning, for the thrill of the game. And in that sense, the Predators are very human antagonists: they are not unfathomable nor are their goals beyond our understanding. The horror of the Predators is that they are creatures we can understand, communicate with, and even see similarities in their culture to ours... and that culture is putting us on a trophy rack alongside other skulls of creatures they felt a thrill to hunt.
So, did the Alien vs Predator films cover even half of these topics?
Well... kinda? Just... not well.
Not well at all.
The Build Up
Alien and Predator have a connected history dating back to the creation of the Predator itself. Stan Winston was on a flight with James Cameron some time after the famous director had finished with Aliens, and the director made a comment about wanting to see a monster with mandibles, which eventually led to the creature we know and love today.
Predator's debut on screen was also often compared to Aliens due to the superficially similar premise of a team of commandos going on a mission and fighting an unknown alien threat.
Despite what some people think, the AvP series wasn't started by the films.
Yes, there was a particularly memorable scene in Predator 2, where the City Hunter is admiring his trophy room and a xenomorph skull can be seen mounted on the wall (though, fun fact, it's actually an inaccurate depiction as xenomorph skulls look more humanoid facing), but that wasn't the first time the duo met in media.
And I'm not referring to the 1993 Arcade Game either (since that only came out a year after Predator 2).
The Alien vs Predator comic first appeared in 1989. And there were publications continuing ever since.
Think about that going forward. There was 25 years of content to choose from, storylines they could adapt, interesting forays into the cosmology and interactions between Yaujta, Xenomorphs, and Humanity.
The movies used exactly none of it (barring 1 thing: the Predalien).
Alien vs Predator (2004)
The plot of this movie is that Weyland-Yutani corporation detects a heat bloom under the ice in Antartica that reveals an underground pyramid, and in a race against his competitors, Weyland rounds up a team of elite experts led by Lex Woods to investigate the ruins (and find that the Predators have left them a convenient tunnel to enter the deep ice). Only to find out that this was a trap, as the pyramid comes to life activates a Xenomorph Queen, unleashing a brood of facehuggers on the helpless crew, all the while the Predators hunt them down. After a spectacular shitshow and release of the Xenomorph Queen, Lex and the last Predator (Scar) have to reluctantly team up to escape the pyramid and blow up the xenomorphs, ending in a final battle with the Xenomorph Queen. Scar perishes in the fight, but Lex manages to send the Queen into the depth of the artic ocean, and is rewarded by the watching Eldar Predator with a spear for her troubles. A post-credit scene reveals that Scar had a chest-burster inside of him, birthing the Predalien!
Rewatching this movie, I'm surprised at how good it looks. The opening scene of the satellite in space, several shots of the ship (and spaceship), the frozen tundra, the set pieces like the Xenomorph Queen Prison, and the CGI!
The CGI! Of 2004! I was shocked that they looked so good for something that is 20 years old now, but they did really well for themselves.
But it was the practical effects that blew me away the most. The shifting Pyramid is absolutely iconic and the abandoned whaling station is suitably creepy. The face-huggers look amazing and the xenomorphs are just *chefs kiss*. It's so funny seeing these Xenomorph effects compared to that of Alien:Covenant, and seeing how much work bodysuit and puppetry can do to make a monster look so much more terrifying than a CGI creature.
I know a lot of people didn't like the Predator's bulky appearance in this movie, but honestly... I dig it? It makes sense that not all Predators are literally built the same, and that the ones who would choose to go hunting in the artic would be the bigger ones who could hold more body heat. And the movie does a really great fucking job of making these Predators look badass and distinct from each other, with Celtic having the coolest mask of the whole group.
And the way the movie is shot is really fantastic! There are a lot of wide and tracking shots where the movie lets the atmosphere do the work instead of badgering us with words, taking its time to build up tension and soak up the visuals. One of my favorites shots they did was slow roam through the Predator ship as the systems come to life and we get to see holograms come on-line, feeding information directly into their masks. Equally good was when the Xenomorph Queen is awakened to cackling electricity and ominous lighting, showing us how vast this chamber is and how huge this Queen is in comparison to the one Ripley faces.
The same goes for most of the actions scenes, with a decent amount of cool slow-mo shots for things like Face-huggles launching themselves, Predators leaping across chasms, and showing Scar's impressive athleticism when he leaps 10 meters into the air and stabs a spear through the Queens skull.
And I can always rewatch the first time Alien Meets Predator Fight. God, that score! The music is just so damn good!!! You really feel like you are watching two massive horrors from space finally finding themselves sharing a space together.
Honestly, the Predators using the Xenomorphs as some kind of fucked up exotic pet for hunting trials and training fits the lore PERFECTLY. It’s actually a literal fox hunt not just metaphorical (and of course, in typical Alien fashion, it all went to shit).
Aliens vs Predator: Requiem (2007)
"Wait, Ridtom/VictoriaDallonFan, are you about to say something nice about AvP:R?!"
Well, after turning up the brightness and hanging blankets over my windows and then watching the movie underneath more blankets... yes!
For one thing, the Alien and Predator effects are spectacular! Some of the best work I've seen in the franchises! The fight scenes are creative and use really cool set-pieces like the sewer and power plant, where we get to see Wolf (the name of the Predator of this movie) absolutely kick ass and slaughter his way through hordes of Xenomorphs. Not that the xenos are left in the dust, as they get plenty of murders on screen and even outsmart Wolf on occasion.
I actually like the Predalien design and the idea that it’s more intelligent than the average Xeno, including holding personal grudges and understanding Predator behavior.
And the Predator tech is really cool too! We got laser grids, land mines, power fists, converting the plasma caster into a plasma pistol And I love the moment where Wolf kidnaps one of the human protags to use as live bait. Such a dick thing to do but so in-character.
Even the bits we get of Wolf mourning his fellow dead hunters was a neat addition.
And to be honest, I didn’t mind the idea of seeing an actual xenomorph infestation in real time, in a small town. I think that sort of setting would be really fun for a one-shot story.
And… that’s it. That’s all the good stuff.
What Went Wrong?
I compiled a list of sources where I got a lot of information on the AvP production: Source 1, Source 2, Source 3, Source 4
Note that a lot of these are 20 years old so I apologize for the outdated and honestly abhorrent word use that some articles and videos may use. And another apology for using the Xenopedia wiki, it was just a good shorthand for other information.
In short: Fox fucking sucks. They will absolutely self-sabotage themselves in order to make a (perceived) profit. Tom Rothman is the most well known (and he’s gone to Sony as of now), but Fox has had a looong history of being stingy and terrified of any risks for their films.
The sheer amount of drama involving Alien 3 and Alien Resurrection is an insane rollercoaster.
AvP removed pretty much any sense of horror and purposely had the design of the Predators to be more “human” and “heroic” (hence the weird human eyes and bulky physique), with a PG-13 rating for more audience numbers. While the human characters aren’t bad, they are not unique or even memorable (barring the fandom romantic tension between Lexi and the final Predator). Also, it was very weird that the Predators couldn’t kill a single Xenomorph, meanwhile the Colonial Marines couldn’t trip without blasting apart swarms of them. It felt like they really wanted to save money on the film in that regard.
AvP:R was even worse, with it being filmed with such a lack of lighting that people could not actually see any of the movie, and even modern advancements in color grading make it a strain. The human characters are awful, just absolutely boring and unremarkable beyond being veiled callbacks to characters from Alien, and we get a bunch of stupid Dawson’s Creek drama involving teenagers who look like they are 30 years old fighting over a girl who has no personality because she was written to just be “hot girl”.
If the story had focused entirely on the wife coming home from the war and dealing with the fact that her own daughter doesn’t feel close or comfortable with her after years of being gone, there could have been focus and themes and yadda yadda yadda.
Also, while this movie at least has horror aspects, did we REALLY need to see the Xenomorphs eating the fetuses and belly bursting out of still screaming mothers? Like, there is horror and then there is just being gross.
Final Thoughts
I often wonder if AvP took the wind out of the sails of Prometheus. Both play with the idea of humans worshiping aliens as gods, because Ancient Aliens is fucking everywhere, but it’s really hard to take Prometheus seriously when you remember AvP did basically the same setup (with arguably smarter characters).
And these movies have really soiled the idea of the AvP franchise barring the video games and comics. There’s apparently an AvP anime locked up in Disney Vaults and so far, both franchises have kept their respectful distances from each other.
However, with the recent successes of Alien: Romulus and Prey, there’s been a bit of a stir with some comments hinting at a potential AvP future.
Who knows. It’s been 17 years, perhaps 3rd time is the charm.

Some thoughts on this article from Game Informer [source]. ^^
Teia and Viago as the 'face' of the Crows/the Crow 'agents', pretty please..? 🥺 👉👈 And I hope maybe Strife and Irelin can be the same but for the Veil Jumpers..? :D
Customizing qunari Rook's horn type and material reminds me of Taash's gem-horn design
Which faction do you think has the coolest casual threads? in my mind's eye [wild speculation] it's a toss up between Mourn Watch and Antivan Crows :D
What do sword and shield warriors 'hip-fire' with?
What is a "night blade" :D
Faction selection/backstory (while not playable) determining who Rook was before, how they met Varric, and why they travel with him reminds me of the different origins in DA:O and how each possible HoF crossed paths with and was recruited by Duncan in a different way.. 🥺
Factions and groups in the world working together to save it.. it felt like there were hints of this in Tevinter Nights. In that book, we saw different groups and factions from across Thedas working with the Inquisition, with varying degrees of cooperation, on being concerned about Solas. Yet other groups were also interested in keeping tabs on him. now we see the same kinda thing in DA:TV with different groups being involved in saving the world from the Evil Gods.
"'You help them, they help you now" but first they all have serious problems you need to solve' has echoes of how in DA:O, the HoF solved a problem for each major group (Dalish elves/werewolves, Circle Tower/templars, Orzammar etc) before they would obey the Grey Warden treaties and agree to help fight the darkspawn for the final battle
Do you think that some of the voices in the Thedas Calls teaser trailer were some of the 'faces' of the factions? For example, the Antivan Crow woman speaker as the face of the Crows, and the Nicholas Boulton-sounding Warden man speaker as the face of the Grey Wardens?
Each spec being tied to a faction explains the faction symbols being on the specializations, as here. From this, we can see that the faction each spec is tied to is as follows:
Mage: Death Caller - Mourn Watch Evoker - Shadow Dragons Spellblade - Antivan Crows Rogue: Duelist - Antivan Crows Veil Ranger - Veil Jumper Saboteur - Lords of Fortune Warrior: Champion - Grey Wardens Reaper - Mourn Watch Slayer - Lords of Fortune
The Mirror of Transformation returns. Do you think that means Rook will also be able to go to the Black Emporium, like Hawke in DAII and Inquisitor in DA:I? Will Xenon the Antiquarian also return? ^^ Maybe not though, since it's said the Mirror is in The Lighthouse
I'm not sure about "If you find yourself unhappy with your lineage or your class, you can change them using the Mirror of Transformation". It was previously reported that "You can change your character’s physical appearance at any time during the game, but not their class or backstory" [source] [prev post mentioning it]. I guess one article is incorrect, but am not sure which. or maybe this aspect of the game changed in development. ^^ UPDATE: please see here re: an update/clarification from Game Informer on this. it reads:
"Editor's Note: This article previously stated players can change their physical appearance, class, lineage, and identity using the Mirror of Transformation. That is incorrect as class, lineage, and identity are locked after you first select those. The article has been updated to reflect that, and Game Informer apologizes for any confusion this mistake may have caused."
What do you think is the problem[s] faced by each faction that we have to solve? :D We got some hints about this already. For example, for the Crows, something "is amiss" in Antiva and they're trying to uncover the source. The Qunari have also invaded Antiva. For the Wardens, they just recently discovered one of Ghil's underground monster labs and learned there are 11 more (Tevinter Nights), and ominous tremors of unknown cause have been creating disturbances in the Anderfels lately. The Lords of Fortune have lost dominion over the coasts of Rivain and dragons are laying waste to their ships. The Shadow Dragons probably have the Venatori, who are still around and up to mad shit, to contend with. Arlathan Forest is currently all timewarped, reality-fragmented, awash with darkspawn and corruption etc. For the Mourn Watch.. maybe the Veil rips and weakening has caused more premature possessions of corpses and demons possessing corpses and wreaking havoc in the Necropolis, or the Nevarran politics stuff? In TN Dorian also mentions learning from a Mortalitasi mage that there are things "past the Veil of our world, neither demon nor spirit". maybe they're having problems with those things?

Quite telling that on Wikipedia, the article on the Nakba overwhelmingly cites Ilan Pappé as the only Jewish source while the prose of the article presents the one sided Palestinian claim as “uncontroversial fact” basically declaring that the New Historians have uncovered the real truth and there’s no more need for debate. This page is locked of course. If you go to other articles you can see much more neutral sounding language, in the article for the Civil War there’s more context including the violence against Jews leading up to the partition. Also you have to go to Pappé’s page itself to learn how controversial and frankly biased he is. Benny Morris is cited too, but outright condemned by the authors for “becoming a defender of Zionism” post 2nd Intifada and none of his later more nuanced work is cited. Very shoddy and intellectual dishonest stuff going on at Wikipedia.
And that’s the “good” source. Most people are just reading tweets and watching tiktoks. The people who actually “research” are sharing Al Jazeera articles or going to a website that makes vague statements and sources historians who are vaguely referencing other work, selectively biased sources, and inflammatory language.
More on this. I can't with Wikipedia. I just can't. I have so many interests and areas of expertise and I don't fuck around there at all. On two occasions ever, I added important notes with real sources to an issue, and they both got reverted by obsessives who squat on their favorite pages and declare anything that differs from their very obvious bias to be "not notable" or "not neutral" or "original research" (even if it's a letter or diary entry by the person the article is about).
I'm sorry they are continuing to ruin an educational resource, and greatly appreciate everyone who can devote the emotional energy necessary to help.

Fanfics being stolen and uploaded on (audiobook) site "WordStream"
I wish there were no reason for an announcement like this right before Christmas… /sad /angry
What is happening?
Fanfics of people on AO3 (works from other sites could not be confirmed as of now) have been uploaded to the site https://word-stream.com.
What do we know?
The site has no legal notice - we can not see who runs or owns the site, who is behind this, etc.. All fanfics also have a ai-generated "book cover", which adds to the iffy vibes outside the fanfic stealing. Fanfics that were found there all match their originals on AO3 with title and author, mostly by tags, and by writing. The summary is often changed, but the works are definitely stolen. Example: Stolen WordStream Version That work on AO3
We checked more works and can confirm that this is not a single case but affects more works, but this is the only SFW work example we could find atm.
Assumptions after some research and digging we did:
To listen to the audiobook versions, you must create an account on that site, which leads to an info that this site has an app. Through that, the developer and potential person behind this could be someone named "Ofek Weitzman", who in term seems to be associated to a "Speechify Inc." (according to google results: Corporation Wiki Article, Speechify App Site, speechify.com).
Speechify does text to speech via an AI voice generator. It would fit the iffy ai cover vibes.
What we recommend to do:
It stands to assume that locking your works on AO3 is the only way of preventing this. So far, we've not found works that were locked on that site, so locking your works on AO3 can protect the from being (more easily) swiped by any bot etc.. Since the site has no legal notice, looking into ways to report that (it's it's illegal for a site not to have one in Germany for example) is likely an option.
Follow up on this and get the latest updated in the Fanfic Communities Network (FCN) Discord Server!
If you have more information regarding this - e.g. if works from other sites are affected too - please reach out to us in the FCN!!
Edit 1 (1h after initial post):
Apparently, a user called @cliffweitzman claims to own this site and to offer users to send an e-mail so this user can take your works down from the site. They answered in this post by @ekingston with this:
A comment to that from our side: This is no excuse. It should not need to be said and explained that theft of intellectual property is not acceptable. We request @cliffweitzman, if they truly run that site, to immediately take down all works that have been stolen - fanfic or potential others - and that were uploaded without the author's consent, as well as to take full responsibility for their unacceptable behaviour.
Edit 2 (2h after the initial post):
The site is currently showing an error... Let's see.
Edit 3 (14h after initial post):
The site is back up, and seems to have taken down fanfics. After searching for the ones we found having been stolen from AO3, we couldn't find any - but that could be coincidence. According to this reblog, the stolen fanfics could only be hidden from the site and if you don't have an account on WordStream. Things are still very unclear, a statement or acknowledgement of this theft of intellectual property by @cliffweitzman is still pending.

The FTC just announced a new rule banning noncompete agreements. A noncompete agreement is a rule set by an employer stating that employees cannot get a new job (or start a new business) within a certain industry and/or geographical area for a certain timeframe after leaving.
Originally, the idea was to encourage employers to invest in their employees by providing more training and developing useful skills, confidant in the knowledge that those employees wouldn't take that valuable training and quit to work for a competitor. But noncompete agreements have become increasingly common for all sorts of jobs. They trap workers in crappy jobs with low wages by limiting their options for leaving.
For example, Jimmy John's used to have a noncompete agreement that prohibited employees from working anywhere that sold sandwiches within three miles of any Jimmy John's establishment, during and for two years after employment. They have since rescinded the agreement and settled a related lawsuit out of court in 2016, but hopefully this illustrates how ridiculous these things can get.
My favorite quote from the article:
"The Commission also finds that instead of using noncompetes to lock in workers, employers that wish to retain employees can compete on the merits for the worker’s labor services by improving wages and working conditions."

For the trope mashup thing whatever: arranged marriage and neighbors 👀 - CX
again not one i would've picked but thank you for prompting it !! this also uh, got longer than i thought.
(from the prompts mash up - still taking submissions)
--------
“What do you mean your visa’s running out?” Lando asks.
“I’m Australian. Not a magician. Commonwealth only gets you so far.”
“I thought you were here on a scholarship.”
“Well. Yeah. But scholarships stop. Once you graduate.”
Lando toes the doorway rug. It feels weird to be talking about this in the middle of the hallway, though the only other person who would be listening might be Mrs. Kapoor, and half the time it’s only because she sticks her head out to ask if Lando or Oscar would take one of her mystery vegan curries. Lando is neither a huge fan of vegan food nor curry, and he trusts Oscar’s word for it that it’s good because they eat it while playing Gran Turismo at Lando’s place. But Lando always accepts the curries nonetheless, because his parents raised him to be polite, and he wasn’t raised in a barn. (Even if he technically grew up in converted farmhouse in the countryside, but that was besides the point.) Either way, this is slipping away from him much quicker than he’d anticipated. Late night hangouts, dropping mail and post-it notes, text messages about the community garden. The most inane smalltalk about things big and small from the origins of moths to whether aliens were out there or just chose to ignore the +44 area code. Oscar always laughing in the right places when Lando regales him about tales of his terrible online dating stories, Oscar always picking the pickles out of the roast beef bagels before he passes one to Lando. The corner of Lando’s sofa that Lando has started to think of as Oscar’s because he’s there so often, reading one of his books or trying to speedread a JSTOR article about the lifecycle of urban pathogens while Lando worked on artwork for his upcoming store launch.
Lando’s synapses are firing too fast. His brain did that most days, and that was what made him exceedingly good at his job, and today in particular - it doesn’t feel like there’s any logical way out.
Lando remembers that movie they watched once though. As a joke. The one they both pretended not to enjoy, with Sandra Bullock and Ryan Reynolds in Alaska. The one they watched when Oscar sat next to Lando on the sofa, and they both pretended the entire night that their knees weren’t touching.
His therapist said he had a tendency to get ahead of himself when under stress. But it’s a joke, it’s not serious, there’s no way—
“We could just like, get married.”
Lando shoves his hands in his pockets. That came out way more calm and cooler than he thought it actually would. And to his credit, Oscar doesn’t drop his mug of tea. Lando knows that’s his favourite one, because Lando got it for him, and it says Science is my superpower. Oscar does, however, slightly shift his grip on the mug.
“I feel like it’d be complicated to explain to my mum why I randomly married my upstairs neighbour?”
“But it’s not a no.”
Oscar tilts his head. There’s a glimmer of something focused, maybe even hungry in his eyes. Oscar gets like that when his mind turns, when he’s working on an especially difficult thesis, when the pieces are forming and he can lock into the crucial details.
Lando is a little alarmed at how much he already recognises it, and how much more often he’d like to draw that reaction out.
“If the facts don’t fit the theory, then reexamine the facts. Right?” Oscar says.
And Lando is there, in the doorway. Conscious that Mrs Kapoor might’ve heard everything, but all the more conscious that there’s a hammering in his heart that he can’t tell is nervousness, or anticipation.
What’s the stress limit for a joke you’re probably already pushing too far? Lando thinks.
He isn’t sure.
But maybe it’s a thesis worth testing out.

(and ok maybe i cheated a little on arranged marriage but i think this is the closest i could get with the contemporary context. thank you @cx-boxbox for the prompt <3)
