While I'm ancient-trio-posting, wanna hear a bit about their dynamic?

Hythlodaeus and Hades are old friends, roommates, even. A genuinely mature, established couple. I haven't really thought too far back in time yet, so maybe childhood friends to lovers because no one else in my story has this trope yet. I leave it open-ended for now. What matters is that they're very chill and stable together.

Azem, not-yet-Azem but a mere apprentice of Venat, has a certain secret, harmless to the world, but potentially ranging from laughable, cringy, personally embarrassing to legally punishable, should it be brought in front of the Convocation, like all lies it's doomed to be revealed in time, he already hangs out with one of the Big People and there are talks about Venat's retirement, our little not-yet-Azem feels like he might get recommended, and must find help with his silly secret before that.

Hythlodaeus, Chief of the Bureau of the Architect, has ever been kind and patient with not-yet-Azem's concept submissions, and generally seems like a reliable and open-minded person, so our guy asks for his advice on the matter. Of course he isn't let down, the nitty gritty of it I'll leave for later. The important part: he and Hyth grow closer, and Hades, already being joined at the hip with Hyth, is in on the secret as well. It's just a vulnerability that I use as a means to win over Hades's heart. Be genuine, beg for his help, rely on him, and he's yours.

Venat retires, the new Azem takes the seat, his secret's safe/resolved (forget about it, it's played its role of the glue for our trio), things are chill for a while, the trio grows into a proper throuple, Hades is recommended for the seat of Emet-Selch by both his lovers, but by Azem most ardently (and selfishly: he feels like a white crow among the Convocation and wants another freak on the team. Hades finds it sweet though).

The status quo moves to the known canon where Azem travels a lot, sometimes summons his buddies to his side, he tends to disappear from Amaurot for weeks and months on end, Hyth and Hades are left to themselves, seemingly things are the same as they've always been, but the joy of reuniting with their wayward lover, and the pining when he's gone, is bigger in Hades than Hyth. Of course they, the two mature people holding hands from the beginning of times, don't discuss this.

Azem may not even realize what he's doing- well, ain't that most azems in a nutshell. He just exists, loves his partners, shines for them with equal warmth like sun. It's not that Hyth doesn't like being sunkissed, no, it's Hades who gets a bit too excited, tries to mask that however he can, perhaps HythHades pretend that nothing's changed, but, yknow, subtle cracks. Hades's heart grows more fond due to the time and distance that separate them so often. Of course he's terrified and he sees what this does to the balance of their poly, it's not welcome, but it won't go away.

Enter Hyth's self-esteem issues, and how neatly that weaves into his following sacrifice to bring forth Zodiark. Even though Azem's nowhere to be seen, it's fine, he'll return, it's just a tantrum, the Convocation will forgive him, Hades will be left in good hands, he and Azem seem to be happier without Hyth anyway. (no, no, no, no-) Of course, the latter's left unsaid, only a smile on display and vague words of affirmation for the shellshocked Hades.

Through the sacrifice Hyth drives up his value. He's forever important to Hades now, forever on his mind, his guiding star. I view Hyth's selfless act as selfish too (just as Raha's but he isn't relevant here), a desperate act of a soul not only loving, but desperate for love. Hyth gets what he wanted. In a fucked up way, he's happier as a part of the moon. He never has to contend with the sun again.

Comments: absolutely adored this fic!!!! It adapts the first 2 episodes amazingly and creatively, and the way it handles the characters make sense for a high school yknow. I was really invested in how the characters are intertwined with each other, and how you slowly figure it out. Build up is great, art is great (and all drawn by the author!) and it certainly has twists for you to find out. Does contain heavy Sunset x SciTwi if you’re not into that, but if you are or even neutral but like EQG, this is an amazing read!! Author is on tumblr @/evelili as well, and they have an animated trailer here!

Rainbooms and Royalty (New) by Trinary - 114k words. Rated E. Tagged adventure, Alt. Universe.

An alternate universe re-imagining of "Friendship is Magic." Rainbow Dash is the personal protege of Celestia, ruler of all Equestria. Follow her through the events of the 1,000th Summer Sun Celebration and the return of Nightmare Moon! (A significant rewrite of the "Rainbooms and Royalty")

Comments: I love AU’s like this, so this was a delight to read! I LOVED how it kept RD’s character in tact, one good example being why she leaves for Ponyville (which you’ll have to read to find out). Moreover, it characterizes the other main 6 well, and even has some bg ponies such as Derpy/Ditzy Doo come in, and they’re characterized well! Honestly was never a fan, even as a kid, of the mlp fandom’s tendency to give bg ponies so much attention (I was a main 6 stan 😤) but they’re handled really well!! I actually grew attached to them. Anyways, the trials are handled differently, but also more interesting, with each given a good amount of depth.

Pinkie Watches Paint Dry by AbsoluteAnonymus - 2.5k words. Rated E. Tagged comedy, random.

Pinkie Pie has an existential crisis while painting her room. This self-parody is dedicated to Professor Piggy, who once told me that I could write a story about Pinkie watching paint dry and weave it into an incredible psychological journey. Let's see if he was right.

Comments: Well characterised for Pinkie, and it soon involves RD and Twi. Well written, and the banter between Twi and RD, along with RD and Pinkie make it a great read!

Looking Glass by Krickis - 195k words. Rated T. Contains profanity, underage drinking, a fade to black sex scene (nothing explicit), and an 18yr (Random cashier) flirting with a 12yr old (Sunset) in chapter 9 and 11. Tagged drama, slice of life.

Sunset always knew that she was destined for greatness, but she never dreamed of how great she could become. Not until she had seen it – the mirror had shown her as an alicorn. Ignoring Celestia’s warnings, Sunset goes looking for answers.

When she learns that the mirror is also a portal to another world, well, what else was she supposed to do? But it seems that she hadn’t considered every possibility. She hadn’t, for example, considered that she might get herself trapped on the other side. Nor did she think she’d find herself transformed into a child again.

Comments: A deep dive into pre-EQG 1 Sunset!! I ABSOLUTEY ADORED THIS!! It fixes a lot of plot holes, such as where Sunset lived as she’s shown living on her own, how she knew of Twilight and the element of magic, and her obsession with becoming the top of the school. It excellently fleshes out Sunset’s backstory, and it’s genuinely a tragedy reading it. The author described it as Sunset making all the wrong choices and being a horrible person, and despite all of that you do feel for her - she is the emotional core of the story. Moreover, AJ in this fic is especially amazing, acting as the moral compass and inspiration to Sunset, it’s much needed in a, for a lack of a better word, more gritty/realistic fic. And no, there’s no Sunset x AJ in this, surprisingly.

Left Behind by Shrink Lauraete. 4.5k words. Rated E. Tagged drama, slice of life.

Comments: Genuinely an interesting and unique look at how RD would feel about Fluttershy’s development. It flips between present day of Flutters and Twi on a map quest, to the past where Fluttershy moves to Ponyville and eventually RD follows. Written for a Flutterdash contest, so you could take this as platonic or romantic. Cameo of Gilda x Zephyr Breeze and Sweetie x Button Mash.

It's an invitation that Applejack has heard countless times. However, no matter how often Rainbow Dash bugs her to experience an air ride, the farm filly flat out refuses.

Then one afternoon, on a day when Applejack is strangely quiet and distant, she suddenly agrees to Rainbow Dash's persistent request. The pegasus happily oblidges, not knowing what has truly motivated Applejack to give in, nor the fact that--more than anything--Applejack could really use a good friend right about now.

Comments: with a focus on AJ and RD, I love the way they’re characterised. AJ is given quite a lot of depth, and I love the way it’s handled in relation to RD and her family. Definitely a tear jerker, and fitting of hurt/comfort. HIGHLY reccomend for any AJ or RD fans. Spoilers tho -> RD’s backstory is noticable different than her canon one since this was written before her parents’ personalities were shown.

Friendship is Empathy by Trinary. 12.1k words. Rated E. Tagged slice of life.

Twilight Sparkle realizes that Rainbow Dash has been keeping a secret from her ever since the Mare Do Well incident. When she goes to confront her about it, she finds out more than she bargained for. And then Twilight reveals that she's been keeping something from her friends ever since the Royal Wedding. Now everything is out there; harsh words have been spoken and a once strong friendship hangs in the balance.

Comments: Anyone upset abt the Mare-Do-Well episode and how RD was treated, or how Twi was treated in Canterlot wedding will appreciate this fic. However, I mostly appreciate it for how the conflict is treated, and general good characterizations.

The Importance of Being Earth Ponies by bookplayer. 2.3k words. Rated E. Tagged as comedy, slice of life.

Apple Bloom is left alone and bored while Scootaloo is learning to fly and Sweetie Belle is learning magic. Applejack sees that her sister feels less special because she's an earth pony, and decides to get Pinkie Pie's help in teaching the filly about why earth ponies are so important.

Comments: Well written and an interesting way to potray how Earth Ponies are as important as Unicorns and Pegasi!! However, the ending feels very odd? In a way. Still, very good for any earth pony enjoyers out there.

It sounds easy enough to keep ... but a promise, like love, is often harder and more complicated than it first appears.

Comments: pretty good, solid writing!! Honestly just a little hard to figure out the motivations in the beginning but if you need some assisstance the author writes some explanations in the comments of one of the early chapters.

Applejack and Matte Palette were best friends when they were younger. Like her, the poor colt doesn’t seem to have much in common with kids his own gender, so they formed an unlikely duo. The two were inseparable, right up until Applejack moved to live with the Orange side of her family, and the childhood friends fail to keep in touch.

But time passes, and Applejack returns to Ponyville. Her biggest hope is to pick up where she left off, and that includes her friendship with Matte Palette. Something seems different about him, though.

Comments: good stuff. Really well written, especially as AJ tries to understand Rarity, and her acceptance is truly heartwarming. Characterised well too!!

Rarity isn't mad, she swears, just very confused. Did Applejack actually break into her house? And for some inane, frankly incomprehensible reason?

Camping has never been Rarity's favorite activity, but she got to pick last anniversary's, so it's only fair that Applejack gets to pick what to do this time. When their trip goes wrong, however, it's up to Rarity to fix the problem herself. No matter how much she might complain about it.

Comments: This feels peak Rarijack if that makes sense. Well written and characterised, and overall just extremely charming take on Rarijack date gone wrong.

Comments: A sweet fic abt Pinkie and Twi. It is a mostly slice of life fic in the beginnings as Pinkie and Twi get to know each other. However, it does go into a plot of Twi in an arranged marriage, and Pinkie letting her go assuming she’d be happy. Overall, solid for it’s characterizations and good writing!!

"sweet clown" and "my favourite bard" are used often by gale! a fun fact is gale will give afhiri moon and star related names, and candor will give afhiri sun related names! candor is called candy by afhiri, and they'll tease it with lots of "you're so sweet! like candy!" hehehe... the torment melts the heart of even the most honourable of angels cirok is called cir by afhiri but other than that their name doesn't actually get used often, since it only really interacts with afhiri and gale. gale calls cirok "it" a lot, and "phantom", using cirok mostly when afhiri pouts at him. it sounds mean but cirok doesn't mind and sometimes prefers the depersonalisation of it

Yknow sometimes I think about how Ozma was visibly horrified by the task Light gave him, so horrified he collapsed. The only reason he came back was for Salem and when they split he defaulted to the task, purely bc I think he felt like he had no other purpose. Granted he worked towards it when he was with her, but definitely more as a "Screw it, I'm here, may as well try" and he was questioning it.

Like. Oz has such a complicated relationship with the task. He's obviously given up on it, and likely hates it, but in the beginning I think he probably wanted to believe it Might be good. But then he gave up on it when he found out Salem can't he destroyed (which was likely a last resort option for him), and later came to the conclusion that the task doesn't matter at ALL. The Gods don't matter. Remnant doesn't need fixing because it was never broken, and to him, this is his freedom.

Honestly, I really wonder what Ozma was gonna say in response to "We could've had freedom." Was he gonna say "I thought we already were"? Or maybe a simpler "I'm sorry"? Gnawing at the bars of my enclosure. Salem sees Remnant as it is as a cage with the gate closed. Ozpin sees that the gate is open. They have such opposing views on freedom,,

one of the very first things we learn about ozma is that he had been ready to give his life for justice countless times before he met salem, finding someone worth saving it for. like, he was a legendary warrior and he was alone, and for that reason i think his reincarnation is the key to his character, bc what if light had just made him immortal or anything like that that didn't ensure he was never alone? after the fight with salem, he would not have had any connection to the world—"that world just isn't as dear to me without her." is what he said when he first refused the task—so in his darkest moments, when he saw no point in any of it, i think the chances of ozma bringing the relics together just to end it would have been much, much higher than they ever were due to reincarnating, because then he wasn't alone, and each of his hosts had some kind of connection to remnant as it was.

there's also, like. yeah, he kinda worked towards the task with salem, but once salem went "let's kill the non-believers", it ended right there. that's not what the god of light asked of him; humanity was meant to live in harmony and set aside their differences, not fight amongst themselves. and while the general angle with the whole judgment deal is yikes, asking for peace isn't like. horrible thing to ask for lol of course ozma would be like "yeah, that sounds great!"—it's the "...or everyone dies" that's the problem; there's no second chances, he has to get it right the first time, and that's terrifying.

what that also meant for ozma is that once the split happened, him and salem were opposite forces; she wouldn't accept the gods return and thus would work to prevent it from happening, so in ozma's mind he needs to destroy salem to have any chance in favorable outcome. . . and then jinn tells him "lol nope" and that's that.

what else can he do? he's gone through two attempts at his task and both ended poorly; one went into a direction he wasn't comfortable with—he was a legendary hero who fought only for righteousness, this was never going to go well with him—and with the other he didn't even get properly started before it ended.

he found himself in a dead end, but over the years he's found peace in other things; the world is fine as it is. humanity does not need to be made whole again. ozpin made a collection of fairy tales that included stories like a man getting into a staring contest with the sun (and wins, but at the cost of becoming blind) and one of humans breaking the sun with their demands only to make a new sun, the old one becoming the moon, even going as far in his notes as to make it evidently clear the sun is a celestial gift from the god of light.

like. there isn't even need to read between the lines, oz has made it abundantly clear that he believes in this world's and it's peoples' right to exist as they are.

as for what he was going to say, i'm definitely leaning towards "i'm sorry" simply bc i like the idea that in that moment, ozma. . . he had been warned by light that he would not find comfort but only pain, but he didn't let that stop him. he still went to salem, but that's what's on his mind, and he's sorry, because it didn't have to end this way.

So, I'm probably the biggest "Marx got his powers from Nova" stan in the fandom (?) and I am more than happy to talk about this! (While noting that, even though I believe in it now, and have "evidence" for it, I accept that things change in Kirby. Until it does, ala "I'm not really from Halcandra," I remain staunchly Nova-Wings)

Anyway, since you said the original Japanese, I went ahead and compiled EVERY line of dialogue relating to Marx in Kirby Super Star / Super Star Ultra! All re-translated by yours truly!

I think the issue here is that last part:

"Marx has revealed his true intentions."

Because the bolded text can also interpreted as "true self" and that (plus its usage in other games) has led people to think it is explicitly referring to Marx's exterior. Now, the reason I translated it as "intentions" above is because 正体 can refer to character as well!

Just as an example, when Magolor grabs the Master Crown and reveals his ambitions, you (assuming you were Meta Knight, as he's the only character who would talk like this...) might say to him 「正体を表したな! 」 ("So, you reveal yourself!") even though we know that Magolor's boss form isn't his true form, it's just a transformation.

I'm not here to lecture everyone that this word HAS to specifically be referring to Marx's intentions. The point I want to make is that it is debatable. And it is probably going to remain debatable until Marx makes another appearance and HAL Labs has reason to clarify whether its one way or the other.

(For those who believe Marx's winged form to be his true form, I'd love some theories on why he resembles the Master Crown, Dark Nebula, Void Termina, and other Ancient Artifacts! I really hope we start getting more Marx + Ancients theorizing down the line... Even as a Nova-Wings stan, I'm very interested in this line of thought!)

But, speaking of, I'm such a sap for the Nova-Wings theory I'm going to end this with one more piece of evidence he wasn't born with them...

When you "defeat" Marx, it is visibly only his wings that go haywire. This is another, not often discussed thing that Marx and Magolor have in common. Sure, the fight with Marx doesn't have the cinematic direction that RtDL does, where you can see when using the Ultra Sword that Kirby is striking at the Master Crown, not Magolor, but take that in mind and go backwards. You can assume it is the same with Marx as it was there, because Marx is not yet physically injured, from what we can see.

Ignore the quality. You can watch a non-"upscaled" version for yourself on Youtube and see that his wings start flashing red while lightning arcs across them while he has an expression of shock, not hurt, on his face.

Again, I beg you to remember how the non-cutscene part of the fight ends. Marx stops for just a second mid-air, looking like he's covered in electricity, before his wings cast off stars and start to malfunction, send him rocketing off the screen in the wrong direction. He leaves the surface of the moon (4) while his wings continue to carry him further and further away, out of control until he crashes into Nova.

You, Kirby, didn't technically "defeat" Marx. Like Magolor, who was modeled so closely on him, Marx was yet another victim of an Ancient Artifact going haywire.

(1) Marx says "Please forgive me!" or maybe "Pweeeeaswe forgive me" if we're going by intent. Basically, he says he's sorry, but the tone he takes makes it particularly snide + cutesy.

I chose "tricks" not mischief because Marx is very particularly speaking about teasing pranks and jokes. I feel like mischief could be read to mean more and the fact that Marx has such simple ambitions leads into the topic of my follow-up essay.

(2) I mentioned this in another post, but the text uses さっさとhere which ostensibly means "quickly" but is used to diminish the task in question. Kirby is treating stopping Marx not as a thing that needs to be rushed  because everyone's in great danger but more like because its a nuisance and he needs to get his rest.

(3) They use "Milky Road" in Japanese, which is interesting because the space through Another Dimension is often called "Another Dimension Road." Using Milky Way implies Pop Star is in our universe, but that's what its localized as, so!

(4) Probably it's because of the hearts on his wings, but I've always wondered if Marx's defeat wasn't a subtle reference to Cars' defeat from Jojo's Bizarre Adventure. (Is that a MF Jojo's reference?! XD )

The sky had been getting darker for weeks. Or, that's what the news said, anyway. Donnie had been relaying everything back to his brothers, though he wasn't too worried about it. Sure, more and more stars were disappearing and the moon ahd shrunken to the size of only a small piece of space junk, but he wasn't worried.

It wasn't until footage of two giant shapes, grey and sleek and scaly moved across the sky that he began to worry. It took almost a day for them to move across the sky, the black ink of the night hidden behind the odd masses. There were rumours of it being an eclipse. NASA wasn't say anything, scientists around the world were stumped. And then the next day the shapes moved again, retracing their orbits around the planet until the sky returned. But this time, the sun was gone.

Donnie wondered if it was appropriate to panic now - considering that should have sent the earth into an ice age. But it didn't. The night and day cycles continued, as if the sun and moon had never been there and the source of light was some sort of huge barrier around the Earth. Donnie watched the footage over and ovwer, trying to spot what top scientists could not. It wasn't until he sped up the footage that he saw the shapes for what they were.

It was one giant blink.

Yknow the sun x moon dynamic would make such a good dynamic for a toxic relationship. Like; i get its like a ball of sunshine x darkness incarnate kinda ship (which would still work as a toxic relationship) but could you imagine something more like their IRL counter parts?

Gone is the cold dark moon, since there is a moon in almost every planet they would be more like a ‘everyman’ character, just a common little dude. With nothing too interesting about them until you look deep and see how they shine.

The sun is a star, far more common than moons but its shine is brighter than the rest and its the only one like it. Gone is the warm comforting glow, here is the blinding shine, blinding them from their own mistakes and flaws making them think their perfect. and the heat. The sun is hot, like extremely hot. Which would make them easy to anger, being the brightest makes them feel special and since moons need the sun to shine the sun would take full advantage of that and hold it over their head saying they’d be nothing without sun.

Could you imagine?

But this would also work as a really good healthy relationship aswell if you twist it the right way so go ham with it.

OKAY SO. uhh cw for talk of suicide... this is rain world so that's kind of a given but hey better safe than sorry

this au uses a tweaked version of my rewrite/oc lore, because hey, i have a perfectly good void stand-in all ready to go in the form of the Dark Water or Void Water (the stuff Bristlefrost drowned in, and also an important part of my OC Willowsong's story)!

There are a few mechanics that are relevant here:

The soul separates from the body a moment before death, and either joins a regional or cultural afterlife or wanders as a ghost for a while. Generally, if they do the latter, they join an afterlife eventually--the Sisters are, notably, an exception for this. The wandering is their afterlife.

Spirits fade over time, as they lose their sense of identity and 'tethers' to the waking world. Faded souls return to the 'cloud', so to speak, to eventually be reborn into a new body, keeping none of their memories.

The only thing that has been known to erase a soul from both waking world and afterlife wholly and entirely (or at least render it untraceable, somehow) is Void Water.

While on that last point, that has only ever been known to happen to one cat--and that's where we get into the plot, because that cat is Sliverstraw (Sliver of Straw).

She was a SkyClan cleric, well-respected and with a powerful connection to StarClan, but otherwise unremarkable. Some will claim that she grew... distant, in the time before her disappearance, but that's not really important. What's important is that she showed up one day, apparently scared out of her wits, and delivered an ominous prophecy before returning to the Moonpool to try and figure out what she'd seen--before vanishing, nowhere to be found. A thorough search was carried out, and the other clerics found that she was not in StarClan, either.

Right, the other clerics, those are important! all the main iterators are clerics Because i wanted to. There's:

Scarletsun (Seven Red Suns) of ThunderClan, and their apprentice Needlepaw (The Spearmaster)

Pebblestorm (Five Pebbles) and Moongaze (Looks to the Moon) of RiverClan

Lavenderfrost (Unparalleled Innocence) of WindClan

Howlheart (No Significant Harassment) of ShadowClan, and his apprentice Houndpaw (The Hunter)

Greywind (Grey/Chasing Wind) of SkyClan, former apprentice of Sliverstraw

In this universe, the Sliverists were just... your average, run-of-the-mill death cult where a bunch of people with fifty three different mental illnesses enabled each other. They maintained their anonymity by communicating via notes carved into pieces of tree bark and left at certain locations (although I don't doubt that some recognized one another by handwriting [pawwriting? clawwriting?]).

While they did influence Pebblestorm's mentality, it was ultimately Scarletsun that gave him the Big Idea, which... okay. in my heart the conversation went something like

Scarletsun: i think you should like drown yourself in holy water or something at this point i genuinely think that's the only thing that would fix you Pebblestorm: YOU'RE A FUCKING GENIUS

but like of course that won't ever be canon so yknow

either way. Pebbles tries to drown himself in the Moonpool. enters StarClan (or is it the Dark Forest?) instead. Tries to drown himself in their fucked up shadow lake Bristlefrost-style. However, Moon's figured out what Pebbles is trying to do at this point, and follows him into the afterlife to try and save him. She pulls him out of the water at a pivotal moment, leaving him functionally dead but his soul still bound to his body (not that he can use it), pretty much a ghost who can still sort of feel his corpse and is incapable of truly joining the afterlife or fading on account of this tether.

In his rage (at both Moon half-saving his life and his newfound state of existence), he turns and shoves her into the water. She is larger and stronger than him, but he catches her off-guard, and holds her there under the water for a moment before realizing what he's done and positively booking it out of there (if it sucks... hit da bricks! -friend ships -consequences of your actio -this mortal coil -too fancy afterlife -murder scene if your quick).

When neither Moon nor Pebbles returns from the Moonpool, Howlheart gets worried. He does not have a connection to StarClan himself (he's a cleric mostly for his skill in healing, rather than abilities as a medium), but he knows that something has most likely gone very, very wrong. And it was probably Pebblestorm's fault, because of course it was.

So he sends his apprentice Houndpaw to check on them. Pebblestorm, of course, is absent, but Houndpaw manages to pull Moongaze's spirit from the lake (the banks are steep enough that once you fall in, it is all but impossible to escape without help)--I say her spirit, because her body is, by this point, dead. She is in a similar position to Pebblestorm, however she cannot feel her body at all--she's just... almost entirely dead, but not quite dead enough to join the afterlife. Or have her body decay at normal speeds. (That comes in handy later.)

What no one accounted for is that dark water is highly corrosive, even in small doses, even when it does not break the skin or cause major damage, and capable of corrupting both souls and bodies even (and especially) before it pulls them apart. and, uh... that hunter sure can long legs !

Pebblestorm eventually settles in the cave systems beneath and around where they bury his body, Rock-style.

Arti and Gourmand aren't too important here--Arti (or Crimsonshade) was a clan-cat-turned-rogue who helped fight off a rogue group that had settled in Pebblestorm's caves (and also killed her first litter), while Gourmand (Claypelt) was a TNP-journey-gang-style scout for the Clans' relocation (which would, of course, leave Pebbles and Moon all alone). Monk (Dandelionpaw) and Survivor (Asterpaw) were a pair of apprentices that were separated from the group during said relocation.

Which leaves us with Rivulet and Saint! Rivulet (Ruffles) is a kittypet with unusual skills as a medium who wanders into Pebblestorm's tunnels by mistake. Pebblestorm, whose body has all but decayed, but who is still by some force bound here even as his soul grows weaker and weaker, instructs Ruffles to dig up Moongaze's corpse and bring it to the tunnels' central chamber.

Ruffles does as they are told (a normal cat's body would have long since decayed, but these circumstances are all but normal). Moongaze's ghost follows, and the two reunite for a brief moment before Pebblestorm does what he has long since decided he must do.

A mockery of a nine-lives ceremony, with only one life to give. He knows full well it will take almost everything out of him, but it works, at the very least. Moongaze is returned to her body to live out the rest of her expected lifespan (although with some complications on account of said body having been very dead for quite a while).

Ruffles eventually has to leave when their housefolk move, leaving the two ghosts (or... one ghost and one. whatever Moongaze is at this point) alone once more.

A year or two later, a flood caused by a summer storm makes Pebblestorm's part of the tunnels collapse. He no longer has the strength to leave, instead spending the rest of his time among the rubble.

The following year brings the coldest, bitterest winter either has ever seen--and with it a strange presence, the loner known only as Saint. Their origins are unclear, although Moon swears she sees a familiar glint in their eye when they first meet...

Regardless, they are perhaps the strongest medium in this world or the next. No one can quite figure out how they achieved such attunement, but--

They present Pebblestorm with a choice--cut his tethers and go to StarClan, or be erased from this world entirely. What he should have had or what he wanted. He responds with 'anything but this'. Or something along those lines, it's quite difficult for him to speak at this point.

Saint, ultimately, allows him to ascend to StarClan, to reunite with his old world (he will fade anyways, eventually, they reason. No need to erase a perfectly good soul). Eventually they do the same to Moon, which was... less warranted, but yknow. a saint's gotta do what a saint's gotta do (:

also Saint eventually goes on a frolick through StarClan and the Dark Forest, like they do in canon w/ Rubicon. saint will see a moonpool and go 'is anyone gonna jump in' and not wait for an answer

here's how ive been socialising lately/in the past:

group workout sessions

so my city organises free exercise sessions by the lake every summer. and i go twice a week. and it's great! it's usually about 20-30 people and we don't really talk, but just the feeling of being surrounded by people who are all doing the same thing as you feels very nice.

church

okay so this one's a little weird and not for everyone. but i really enjoy singing and church is the only place i know where i can sing in a good quality choir for free. bc other free choirs id been a part of were very amateur and it was basically singing lessons for people who can't sing, no offence. whereas at church, we just come in, sing, and that's it. and the people there are so good at singing!

the vibes are a bit weird tho. there's always people falling to their knees, crying, etc. it's insane. the priest always talks about some weird stuff too. like there's always some kind of drama going on. it's very weird. but i lowkey love it. like the other week the church got fined for "praising the lord too loudly" and the people in the neighbourhood complained to the police. and another week someone sent scam messages to people pretending to be father paul asking for money so father paul had to be like guys that wasn't me. anyway, every week there's some new drama. and people be crazy.

so yeah i just go there for singing and, again, to get that feeling of being part of a crowd that i really love. but i don't talk to anyone there bc everyone's always praying or talking about god and that's not really my vibe idk. if you're lonely and lost in life i definitely don't recommend getting into religion. figure yourself out first and then join a group if you really feel like you'll fit in, but not the other way around. the people i know who've converted to islam or became catholic or whatever don't seem very happy tbh.

sports club

so i took ice skating lessons this year and i went to skating camp during the easter holidays. and it's the kind of place that's great for small talk. because we'd only ever talk about skating and it was great. no deep conversations, no political talk, no questioning. just like "who's your favourite skater", "how did you get into skating", "look at xyz skating accessory i got", "what trick would you like to learn", etc.etc.

different kinds of sports attract different kids of people too. so my manchester bestie for example has always been a part of some kind of martial arts club like taekwondo or kickboxing. she says that she's always felt very comfortable around the people there bc people who do martial arts are usually very reliable and understand consent/boundaries. it's just a certain personality type, yknow. and with skating too, it's a very specific kind of crowd, usually quite well off, artistic, studious, sensitive. i feel quite comfortable in skating circles. so yeah, finding a sport that attracts your kind of people is great. again, are you gonna be friends with these people outside of the sport you do together? probably not. but that's okay.

associations/societies/clubs

so i know in my country associations are super common, idk about other countries tho. but where i live there's an association for everything. every single public parc has their own association, every interest/hobby has their own little club. like there's the tea lovers society in my neighbourhood! you can literally find a club for everything.

i used to be a member of the astronomical society. but the average age there was like 70 so it wasn't much of a vibe. but i really enjoyed the events we organised. like id always dress up. i dressed up as the moon, as a space princess, as the sun. i was always extra. and it's really fulfilling to like organise events and be a part of something. and all clubs/associations always organise movie nights and game nights and that kind of stuff. so just find one that really vibes with you and it'll be great!

im also a member of this social economy association for work. and they also organise a lot of events. i go there for networking for my work and to be very honest i really don't dig the vibe. it's very leftwing liberal, very much granola millenials but not the fun kind. but sometimes influential political figures hang out there and it's quite entertaining to see them roaming free lol, yknow. and we have made useful connections there for work, so i can't complain.

volunteering

my favourite thing to do when i was a teenager was to volunteer at music and film festivals. because you get free drinks and free tickets for everything. so id go to clubs underage because i was a staff member lol. i have to say, it did lead to some weird things bc the other volunteers were mostly in their late twenties-early thirties and those types of events usually attracted people who were generally lost in life, like lots of weird artistic types and clubbing addicts. and i was this 16 yr old in the middle of it all, flirting with guys and telling everyone i was 21. but despite some weird moments, it was a great and useful experience. idk how old you are, but if you're between the ages of like 18 and 23, i definitely recommend volunteering for a festival! you'll have the wildest parties with all the free drinks and backstage access lol. just be responsible.

conferences/presentations

so if you're older than 23, networking events/conferences/presentations are great. i often go to conferences just like to broaden my horizons and make useful connections for work as a process. again, there's always something going on on meetup or impacthub or something. ive never been able to make friends there because the average age at these types of events is like 35-50, but it's always great to see people who are further in life than you and who have an interesting story to tell or advice to give.

her position wasn’t that bad but she was forced to withdraw because her mom decided to send her off to college so she could enrich her mind—      and that was BULLSHIT by the way,      womans was sending her off to be trained by a veteran beauty pageant mentor because she was going to be miss korea!      but eh.     her mom imagined that her attending college would make her look good so she got her enrolled in harvard after making some calls and tugging on their connections,     so yeah.     it was kind of a rough time for mona because not only was she dealing with her loss     (she wasn’t upset because she lost perse,     it was more that she started believing that her best was truly not enough and tbh she was just very disappointed with herself + it didn’t help she had not only her mom but the korean public up her ass about it),    but because mona was in a different setting. 

she may have been out of her mom’s praying eyes but mona was still very well-mannered during college,    she did some silly things here and there but    nothing    crazy because at the end of the day she was still known by some classmates as a beauty queen and knew that one picture could ruin her future in the industry.    while everyone were studying for their finals,    she was studying and perfecting herself to be better once she was back on stage

after graduating harvard,    she flew back to participate in a regional preliminary for miss universe korea.    mona won miss gyeonggi incheon 2016 and participated in miss korea 2016 the next month,    and she won!

and as    the    miss korea,     a title that she keeps holding despite the new upcoming beauties in the korean pageant industry because of how impactful and talked about her reign was,    she was south korea’s representative and the winner of miss universe 2016,    becoming the first south korean to win the miss universe title   :3    

to this day,    her reign as miss universe is still talked about for both positive and negative reasons.   she was a direct,    soft-spoken,   charismatic,   respectful and a very beautiful diplomat-like queen who wore gorgeous dresses during her reign,    yes,    but the toxicity within the organization was craaazzzzzyyyy…    it gave her psychic damage!    plus the rumors and things said about her were driving her insane:     is it true her father paid for the crown?    is it true she had a threesome in college?    is it true she slept around to get to the crown?    why was she eligible for the contest when she’s short?!     is it true she is going to participate in the victoria’s secret fashion show when that’s not allowed as miss universe?    why is there a rumor that she’s going to be part of a movie?!    why is she hanging out with this person?     did you hear that she slept with a superstar?     why was she the representative of sk anyways?    why is she booked?!     wasn’t she seen hanging out with this person who was seen doing c*ke at a party she was also at?!     why hasn’t she been dethroned yet?!

during her studies at harvard before going back to sk,    mona agreed to be part of an indie horror film   (i’m making it an indie idgaf!    many rookie actresses that were her friends/classmates only idc!!!!!!)   suspiria without any of her parent’s permission or approval because she thought it was going to be fun!!!!    this kinda woke up a new passion within her because she finally tasted something that wasn’t part of her life,    but she had #duties as a future beauty queen and,     tbh?     she kinda thought the film was never going to be released tbh

so a contract was done,    one that would last until she’s crowning another queen.    basically a whole    “mona will be the best diplomat during her reign,   avoiding controversies,    attending every single meeting she’s supposed to be at,    etc etc,    but she won’t be limited to her reign only”   

so.     she didn’t do anything extraordinary or problematic during her reign…     but…     she got away with filming a show and a movie,     she did participate in victoria’s secret fashion show 2016,     she was hanging out with people everyone thought of as trouble,     she was seen at some protests miss universes’ tend to distance themselves from,      she was at a party where they were getting c*ked up and guess what she ended up joining,     too!     :D    there were a lot of questions and whines and complains about all that but mona was untouchable under that contract so she couldn’t be dethroned   +   her lawyers and pr team?    chef’s kiss    ^____^

Hi! I'm absolutely obsessed with free falling and have seriously been rereading it non-stop for days. I'm curious if you've ever thought about an au where Hawks didn't arrest Dabi fours years ago or they stayed in touch or whatever. Because thinking about different fluffy futures for them is the only thing keeping me going through all this angst. Also when will these two finally just get together I'm dying here watching these two men who became obsessed with each other after one meeting still be unable to actually get this relationship on the road? No but seriously I'm so in love with this fic and all the ways you make Hawks suffer you're an incredible writer!

ahhh thank you! to answer your second question, i can’t say anything SPECIFIC, but i can promise that part 1 (chapters 1-13) will end with the boys taking A Big Step, relationship-wise. i can’t tell you what the step is. but part 2 is for sure going to be a big focus on the ~romance~.

if you saw when i was messing around with titling the parts (which really does not matter i just like naming things), i called part one Growing Up, Getting Older and part two Honey Moon, Poison Sun, which, yes, very purposeful reference to the honeymoon period of a relationship. and uh… do with the second half of the title what you will :).

for the first question…i haven’t really thought about an au where they stayed in touch, but OH BOY. especially if dabi continued to hide his villain persona and just be touya. oh, the betrayal from hawks when he found out! it would be awful. he would be way more distrustful and very upset about it, but at the same time that chemistry and history they have together would be so much more. and of course dabi would have a four-year head start on helping hawks unlearn all of the shit the commission taught him, which is good.

so better in some ways and worse in others, i think. off the top of my head, i can’t really think of any major events that would change, just their reactions to things mostly. ACTUALLY. this is a lie. i don’t think it’s really a spoiler to say that part 2 (and 4, in a different way) will have a huge focus on hawks struggling with being in a healthy relationship and advocating for himself, asking for things, etc. so much.

in an au where presumably they’ve already been doing that, part 2 would be…significantly less angsty. still a lot of angst! there’s other plot to contend with! but dabi and hawks would be far more solid.

I've been wanting a MilkLove series since I watched Bad Buddy in early 2022 and now I finally get to watch it! I'm excited, I've liked the gifs and clips I've seen on social media. It's a regular high school drama but I can enjoy those when done well, so I'm hoping it's charming.

I think I wish that love was juuuust a teeny bit better of an actor? Make her lines seem slightly more natural cuz most people are doing well and she's doing well too but it sometimes feels like she's acting rather than being the character Sun. But it might also have to do with her character and the script giving her lines that make it feel like her sentences aren't genuine.

The show reminds me of My School President, which makes sense since they're high school shows, and this one reminds me of that one ep when they had to do the club fair and set up that "cafe" thing.

Sun really gave Ongsa so much opportunity to explain but like.. what even is there to explain, I guess

I think I need to gain more empathy fr because how are you as a 16 year old just... leaving without informing anybody and not picking up anybody's calls just to wallow? Tell your friends/family that you're just gonna hang out outside or pick up their calls to let them know that you're not dead even when you're going through something. This irritated me recently in I Fly Towards You the drama with the ML's younger brother as well.

ooof, I don't want Sun to be the one who acts normal and rational and kind and reaches out first and is understanding with little to no effort from Ongsa's end beyond wallowing in her self-pity

Sun literally having to beg and run after Ongsa to get her to talk to her, don't piss me offffff

I don't remember when this happened in the show but the people on BE Podcast were saying that Ongsa sent a photo of something from her room (her ceiling with lights?) to Sun and that's how she was gonna get caught. Anyway, the phone notifications were another massive way to get caught and seems that was the way they went.

I can't believe it took 20 minutes of show (no joke, like 10 mins of part 3 and 10 mins of part 4) before they made up and are now getting to know each other again agh. And we see so much of Ongsa's devastation but barely anything from Sun and she's the one who has to chase after Ongsa smhh It's as if Sun isn't a real character for real, she has no emotions or agency or function beyond being somebody pretty and nice who Ongsa likes.

I do get her fear and anxiety that she's a girl and Sun's a girl and she doesn't know how they could ever work it out but I think I'd be more receptive to her feelings in this scenario if Ongsa didn't hurt Sun repeatedly and then Sun have to take the initiative to patch it up.

Thoughts so far:

I caught up!

The show is cute but I don't know if I did a good thing by deciding to start it when there are still 4 eps left. It's a cute high school show, which might be a better binge than watching 45-55 mins a week because it may not keep my interest. I don't know, we'll see.

I find Ongsa-Sun to be cute but I don't feel like I have an emotional connection to them.

On the other hand, I'm quite invested in Aylin-Luna and love Aylin! It's especially fun because I became Obsessed with ViewJune after seeing a few edits from 10YT of them being enemies and then friends? I was shipping them and retweeting their edits and stuff and then !! the ship actually materialized in this show, that's wild (first spotted in Dangerous Romance but idk if they even really happened there lol), especially because they weren't supposed to be in this at all (instead GeminiFourth were gonna be the side ship). I guess many people other than me were also into their chemistry in 10YT. Like I didn't even watch the show, didn't know anything about them but still was hooked on twitter and tiktok edits.

We still have a third of the show left, I wonder what it'll be about. I think I saw something about a scholarship mentioned? Going abroad?
