You were a little confused to say the least, but you were never one to turn down an invitation from a friend. Especially Luka. And even when he looked so excited! Sure, it was confusing but he looked so excited so how could you turn him down?

Awkwardly, you stood within the loud crowd of people who were cheering on the fighters in the ring. Although you were too far into the crowd to see who was fighting, you relied on the announcer that you barely hear over the roar of the crowd to let you know when Luka was taking the stage.

The crowd seemed to grow louder as the fight went on and while you knew he was popular, you didn't realize the extent of his popularity until that moment. It grew hot in the crowd as they continued cheering for the fight as you were getting shoved farther away from the cage, leaving you only able to see his reddish hair flying about as he attacked his opponent.

As you heard the announcer call the match, you tried to squeeze out of the crowd to stand near one of the walls. Soon after, you saw Luka rushing out, waving at you. A tissue shoved up the side of his nose, you could see a little blood leaking onto it.

" (name)! (name)! You're here! I didn't see you in the crowd, but did you see me?! " His eyes were bright as he looked at you with anticipation, waiting for you to respond. He sort of reminded you of a puppy... And you can't lie to a puppy, right?

" ...Yeah! I saw you fighting that- " What was he fighting? You couldn't see at all... " ...In any case, you were cool! " You assured him, placing your hand on his shoulder, his face lighting up. You could feel the guilt itching at you as you lied to him. Best not to dig your grave any deeper, right?

" Alright! " He pumped his mechanical arm in the air in celebration as you turned him around, nudging him back to where he had come running from.

" I think it's time for you to go get those scrapes bandaged up though, Luka. " You let out a quiet laugh as you heard him let out an 'aw' in response.

But first! Let's catch up with some of the current crew who is currently in Penacony!

Warning Penacony Spoilers

For the Trailblazer Penacony's been rough... Shortly after the death of their new closest friend, they'd been coerced into talking with Aventurine, and now had to make a decision without consulting any of the Astral Express beforehand. Sure, they were a seasoned adventurer with two missions under their belt but they still have no idea about their past or if they could trust such sketchy people.

"Aventurine, that little rat..." Their ears perked up when they suddenly heard the voice of this presumed Aeon. "I want to knock my fist against his forehead and see if there's a brain in there." The Trailblazer wouldn't try that.

But if you were acting like this maybe Aventurine and Black Swan could be trusted. The Trailblazer forced themselves to relax and tried to show confidence in their eyes. They could do this. It was good you were still by their side in the dreamscape, otherwise... what would they do?

Herta has found it's more difficult to communicate with you than the Aeons. While the Aeons simply didn't want to communicate it was as if there was some sort of wall separating her from you. It was beyond fascinating but it irked her, she wanted to get into contact with you right away. Then, as she was working to implement a simulated version of you into the simulated universe as an Aeon she had a revelation. What if... this was all a game?

Natasha had done it. Recently the eyes glanced off her more often, something she couldn't help but feel disappointed at. But upon one instance when they glanced upon her, she'd taken their warmth in full, and decided to set out. It seemed when these eyes were on her, she improved in nearly every aspect, so maybe her luck would improve as well? Even though it had been a dead end many times before she investigated Vache's worn down laboratory covered by snow searching for research. Except this time, she found something. This Aeon... was strangely benevolent and caring towards mortals.

That's all the updates we have for now on the current characters, in terms of progress. Herta is one smart cookie but who else is one smart cookie? Dr. Ratio!!! That man I love him so much. Sampo is also a potential worrying addition.

Given in the current event you can get either Sampo, Guinaifen, Asta, or Yukong for free, so let's see how they react.

Dr. Ratio

...This was interesting. The plot unfurling behind the scenes of Penacony was to be expected, Aventurine was being a pain in his ass also to be expected, but an Aeon looking at him? A smart Aeon. One who also must hope to purge the world of ignorance! A noble pursuit. Or perhaps, they'd realized their own ignorance and sought to rectify it some of the Aeons were rather lackluster in this manner after all. But they'd likely never change in their ways.

And you're no longer looking at him, that's fine. Is it a bit more chilly in here or is it just him? An interesting side effect of your gaze then, the feeling of warmth. He wondered why that happened, the look of Nanook was dangerous and suffocating, near fatal for any mortal. That of Yaoshi's was said to be sickeningly sweet and suffocating as well. Nous' was cold and calculating, judging your every asset and whether or not you had potential. Everyone had potential, they just had to choose to rid themselves of their ignorance. If the gaze wasn't suffocating maybe... you were a weak Aeon? One that had just formed or had been thought to have died.

Interesting. Aeons, the topic no scholar knew completely about. Herta was researching deeply into them, Dr. Ratio supposed he could always ask her yet he didn't want to feed into her ego. There were other ways to get the information though.

Guinaifen

"Hello, hello! Can you all hear me? Good morning fam! And welcome to Little Gui's stream!"

It was then when Guinaifen suddenly felt warmth wash over her. Oh, maybe it was because this stream was her first normal one after all the ghost catching business but she found herself getting flustered...? Flattered...? She wasn't sure exactly how to describe it yet she felt even more energetic than usual! As if she could go on for hours! When she ended her stream, the warmth was still there and she still felt as if she was being watched.

Wait-- wasn't this how people said they felt when they were being watched by an Aeon? Something similar to this right?! If even an Aeon was watching her, she was definitely going to be famous! When Guinaifen went to tell Sushang about this news, she found Sushang had run into the same thing! Weren't the two of them an impressive pair? :)

E1 Asta

Research had been going smoothly, partly thanks to the eyes always observing Asta. With them came the warmth that brought confidence and innovation she felt she wouldn't feel otherwise. But, she could feel the warmth all the time now. She doubted an Aeon would be able to watch her all of the time so had she been blessed? That was good, she was able to focus on all the stars and her research more now and learn more in less time!

But... why did she feel so forlorn? As if she had been deserted? Had you just blessed her and moved on your way? Herta... Herta knew a lot about Aeons maybe she would know something about what had happened to her, maybe she would know if you're still around.

E1 Yukong

Even after it all Yukong wished to return to the skies. Despite failing her comrades, despite all those around her who she'd cared for yet failed to stop their death, despite the burning wreckage she'd had to painstakingly crawl out of. Yukong wished to fly. In this long life where even the things she'd once loved had dulled, the longing to fly was forever there.

The warmth was on her constantly now, she completed her paperwork faster, she created ingenious plans, but what did it matter?

"I want to go back," Yukong had spoken one day out to the silence of the world and when the warmth remained she realized, perhaps she could go back and fly. Maybe... it would be okay. But for now her fear remained, albeit comforted by the sight of an Aeon.

What a strange Aeon, to care so much for a mortal.

Sampo (spoiler warning for Black Swan quest, although I was kind of confused the whole time so some information may be incorrect)

Now this would be fun! Sampo had known he was right, this was only another clue in the right direction! And this Aeon, watcher, player, reader, whomever you were appeared at the perfect time! Whenever your gaze fell upon him, he could feel his speed increase as well as the rest of, if this were to be a game, his "stats." He knew he wasn't crazy, of course he'd never had that idea in the first place! He'd be able to retrieve his mask much easier now, he could deal with you later.

It wouldn't be anything bad, don't worry, Sampo Koski is always happy to have a new business partner and friend :) !

If there's anything else you wanna hear about it I'd be more than happy for ideas cause I love these little guys (the characters) . It's just them living their life except they're stronger and feel as if they can enact their dreams! And maybe they gain a friend or a small crush on the way but hey that doesn't mean anything until Penacony comes out with some tech they worked on with Herta that allows you to visit in your dreams but no way something like that will happen, right?

Also trailblazer is genuinely so stressed like imagine having to make the decisions to save an ENTIRE FUCKING PLANET and you don't even know who the you are or what you've been through, you're genuinely so lost but hey you're alive, somehow.

Fu xuan is currently the general after jing yuan's death.

But his death was not being mara, But by an assassination from the Sanctus medicus by a dangerous enemy called Shangū, He died in front of yanqing.

His last wish was that Yanqing would live a happy and long life..

Well..

Yanqing started to mask his emotions behind a smile which he puts on everytime. Following a path of vengeance to avenge his mentor's death, he'll do anything to kill shangū.

Yanqing is still a lieutenant and The new sword chapion although.. he shares his title with Yunli due to their so many tie in battles so people decided to make them share the title.

Yanqing carries a fan around, (like y'know the fan Tingyun has? Yea that type of fan but a different colour.).

Sushang is a respected cloud knight known for her strength is is quite cold.

Well, one of the reasons might be her Best friend, Guinaifen's death as she was a short-lived species anyway.

Sushang doesn't like yanqing and maybe never will, the only time they interact is only for work related purposes. Or if Jinglian and jingli try to make them talk with the others.

Speaking of jinli and jinglian, They are two twins who are actually niece and nephew of shangū But well, they've never met him, And They know their mother's and their Other siblings (they had two more siblings btw) death was by shangū. Jingli is a girl who uses a spear while jinglian is a boy who uses a sword, Both of their weapons were picked by yanqing.

Jinglian is usually trained under yanqing, While Jingli helps Fu xuan or bailu if they need anything, Otherwise, she also trains with yanqing and jinglian.Being trained under a sword champion who's a lieutenant is cool isn't it?

Qingque is somehow not being a door guardian and continues her work in the divination commision, Although she still slacks off and tries to Sushang or Yanqing for boba but most the time it's a no

Qingque is most of the time with sushang, Getting boba or anything except working.

After the death of huaiyan, Yunli is the general of the zhuming and visits the Luofu usually for meetings or anything like that.

Yanqing and yunli have somewhat like a shinobu and giyuu dynamic (Yanqing is Shinobu guys.) But by what General Fu xuan says, Yanqing and yunli enjoy talking to eachother.

(They mostly gossip I'm sure for some reason)

Yunli stole one of Yanqing's swords and he doesn't know about it at all.

Yunli is taller than yanqing. She is 6'3 and yanqing is like 5'11.

Bailu.. hasn't grown much, Like she's old but doesn't look like it.

Bailu hangs around with whoever she finds its either jingli or jinglian anyone.

NOT SO FUN FACTS :

few weeks after jing yuan's death Yanqing lost all his emotions for months until he started to pratice fake smiling. It worried fu xuan alot. But she didn't show it.

Yanqing was 16 when jing yuan died.

Fu xuan promised jing yuan at his grave that she would take care of yanqing and made sure the boy went the right way.

Everytime yunli and yanqing meet, It either is a conversation about how jingli and jinglian are doing or....

Just them roasting eachother. Respectfully.

Qingque tries to make sushang and yanqing friends again, But well it fails terribly,

Sushang ends up saying harsh words to Yanqing and yanqing can't snap because of reputation and ends up staring at himself at the mirror with instructive thoughts for hours.

Yanqing wants revenge on Shangū for killing his mentor who he considered as a father.

Huaiyan's death was when he got a disease and died after a week he got it.

Guinaifen died when she was 89, after Living a long and happy life with her best friend (wife.) sushang.

Yukong has passed away by old age.

track one: yanqing

considering yanqing's job and training, he doesn't have as much free time as he wishes he had. but he still hangs out with you and even guests in your streams at times!

in fact, he even joined in when you visited aurum alley. after sushang and the trailblazer fixed the area up, helping the stores, it was no surprise that it was on your go-to list.

"good evening, everyone! i'm sure you all heard about the renewal of aurum alley, so i came here today!" you smiled at the video camera, then switched it over to frame yanqing, who was coming back to you with some berrypheasant skewers in hand.

"and today, i'm accompanied by the cloud knight's lieutenant, yanqing!" yanqing, already biting into one of the skewers and handing yours to you, gave a goofy smile to the camera.

essentially, you were documenting your exploration date with yanqing. he didn't seem to mind that much, though.

the chat, on the other hand, was sort of going wild — spamming cute stickers, a bunch of cheesy comments about you guys... overall finding this puppy love to be very cute (it is.)

track two: qingque

and on the other side of the spectrum, there's qingque — biggest slacker of the divination commission. it's admirable how she isn't fired yet.

so, it means that she's almost always down to stream with you. and this time, the both of you decided to explore around the luofu. nothing too special, honestly.

"man, this is actually getting a little boring." qingque mumbled, observing around the area you two are in. supposedly, there was something 'super duper fascinating' in this place, and you wanted to check it out. for the views.

admittedly, you were disappointed, too. you've been walking around for a good 45 minutes now, and nothing has shown up. not a building, creature, object... zero.

well, until you hear footsteps coming from behind you.

the both of you stopped in your tracks, absolutely horrified to hear something like that for the first time. it was almost cartoonish, the way you looked at each other like, 'did you hear that, too?'

one word came from the voice behind you, firm and annoyed — "qingque."

it was just the master diviner, fu xuan. however, realistically speaking, that's even scarier than any beast you could come across.

... needless to say, the stream switched off soon after.

I feel like we as a fandom need to talk about Guinaifen and how horrific her backstory is.

A child who's loving home and father was ripped away from her, who saw her mother stay behind to fight a battle with the knowledge she'll be slaughtered senselessly like her people, who's elder siblings had to be tied up so they wouldnt die with her.

They end up in an IPC mine with conditions so horrific the elderly knight sworn to protect them refused to let them work in it and did it himself, his hands becoming deformed from the wear of it.

And then one day, that steady wall crumbled, their last support system died quietly in his sleep.

Then her brothers become pirates to support their siblings and when they were captured and turned over the Xianzhou, Guinaifen was relieved because supposedly the Xianzhou was kind.

She hoped they were kind enough to let her siblings and her die together with dignity.

The Xianzhou instead put them in respective rehabilitation programs with her elder siblings getting jobs and the younger ones getting an education.

Guinaifen isn't even her name, her real name is Guinevere. Sushang gave her the name Guinaifen. Guinaifen loves the Xianzhou becuase they saved her and she cares so much about Sushang she wanted to be her sworn sister. She's a fascinating character who's backstory emphasizes characterization of the IPC and the Xianzhou. The Xianzhou sought to rehabilitate them even when wronged by them because they were just kids in a shitty situation. The IPC exploited people and made them work in horrific conditions, not caring in the slightest about them until they started losing profit.

I love Guinaifen to bits if you can't tell by now haha.

She's also based on Arthurian folklore which is neat!

I see you have a Genshin Impact modern/school au on ao3… But do you have a Honkai: Star Rail modern au? If you do, I’d love to hear about it. I’m a sucker for modern aus that are so fluffy and fun it makes me forget about canon angst :’)

I do have something of a Modern AU, though it isn’t really a school au. Some characters do attend school and college, but most don’t. I haven’t really fleshed out all of the characters enough to have written anything fics for it yet, but I definitely want to once I have. The whole au is very found family-esque. I can tell you about the Astral Express crew!

Stelle and Caelus are the latest employees at the Astral Espresso, an old cafe that switched owners and was renovated a few years ago. They have complicated relationships with their family (the Stellaron Hunters) and have moved out together to start their own lives together, away from their family’s influence. Luckily, they were both able to land full-time positions at the Astral Espresso to support themselves. Stelle and Caelus have been considering starting college, though want to attend the same course and can’t seem to agree on a major.

Dan Heng is a part-time employee at the Astral Espresso, and part-time History major in college. Originally Dan Feng, he unfortunately got into a severe workplace accident and suffers from memory loss. As time passes, his memories gradually come back in fragments. Regardless, he has gone by Dan Heng ever since and sees himself as a different person altogether, determined to live his own life regardless of who he used to be. He is the somewhat reluctant legal guardian (and biological parent, though he’s in denial) of Bailu and took up work at the Astral Espresso to provide for them both in his college years.

March 7th is yet another employee of the Astral Espresso. She works full-time at the cafe, though dreams of becoming a professional photographer. In the mean time, has become something of a social media influencer in her free time, even collaborating with the likes of Guinaifen and Sushang. Much like Dan Heng, she too suffers from memory loss and seeks to make the most of her life. However unlike him, her memories have not returned at all. She has no clue why she lost her memories or who she was before she did, neither do her doctors.

Himeko is the new owner of the Astral Espresso. She is an ambitious woman who renovated the entire store to return it to its former glory, whilst also modernising it to appeal to all varieties of customers. Himeko was good friends with the cafe’s previous owner, Akavili, though admittedly knew very little about them. When they suddenly disappeared, the cafe was left in Himeko’s name. Himeko is determined to continue her friend’s legacy and also forge a legacy of her own.

Welt is a part-time animator, and part-time worker at the Astral Espresso. A close friend of Himeko’s, he was one of the first employees to be hired alongside a certain blonde companion after she took over the cafe. Coincidentally, Welt came to adopt a young child affectionately known as Pom-Pom around the time of Akavili’s disappearance. He frequently brings Pom-Pom with him when working at the Astral Espresso, though the child is too young to work themself.

That’s pretty much the basics on the Astral Express Crew. If you’re curious about any other characters or want to know more about these characters, feel free to send in an ask. I have lots of ideas and not much to do with them yet.

absolutely unhinged but people don’t expect it out of him

guinaifen: 

shows off her “magic skills” to little kids and they are all over it

an absolute comedian, but people don’t find her funny because their sense of humor is different from hers

she and sushang get into all sorts of trouble and jiaoqiu finds it hilarious

Speaking of jiaoqiu, since he knew sushang as a baby, he could have known guinaifen as a small kid too and that makes my heart happy (just a theory, not confirmed, but the sushang bit is real)

kids absolutely flock to her when they’re lost and since she’s probably good with kids, she comforts them and sits with them until their parents show up
