it's not like I'm up at 11pm thinking about this

but all the letters that seemed to be written from DEMA citizens in the first part of tour were typed up on paper, and the code embedded in them was double-caps. Blurryface talks like that. And then the code said "WE MUST DESTROY THEM OR WE WILL BECOME THEM AND IF WE BECOME THEM WE MUST DO BETTER."

But I'm starting to think that message was a lie. That message, about potentially becoming bishops and trying to do better, is from the bishops. Like reverse psychology. Letters trying to plant, in Clancy's head, the idea that the only way to defeat the Bishops is to become one, and remake DEMA in a better way.

But actually that won't solve anything. And it's what the Bishops want. It would just corrupt Clancy. Or even...that this has always been the cycle. Clancy thinks he's a normal DEMA citizen. But he's the only one who can be seized without dying. He encounters the Banditos, thinks he's rebelling, but always winds up trapped as a Bishop himself--until they wipe his memory and convince him he's a normal DEMA citizen and start all over again.

And the only way to break the cycle is if Clancy realizes that where he's going wrong is this: he thinks he can stop Nico by replacing Nico with himself. But it never works out that way; that's a trap.

Just like thinking you can kill dark thoughts and insecurity by focusing on yourself is a trap. Clancy "embodying" Nico would be symbolic for focusing on your flaws in an effort to fix them. Just like making an album called "Blurryface" was an effort to fight insecurity. But it's a trap. You start with "I'm messed up, let me figure me out" and all that leads you to is where you started: "I'm messed up. No solutions inside ME to be found."

Think about it! It could make sense!

Clancy's always been in a cycle he can't break but we don't know exactly what that is--we assumed it was "I escape and get dragged back." And the Banditos are what he thinks is a break in that pattern.

But!

Torchbearer's most recent letter to Clancy, on cloth, handwritten, says "We destroyed them (past tense) so we didn't become them. We must do better, Clancy." And it's past tense. EVEN THOUGH these letters are supposedly taking place BEFORE the events of Paladin Strait, and the good guys still haven't won?

So what does he mean, "we destroyed them?"

He doesn't finish the phrase "if we become them, we must do better," he just says, more generally, "do better."

Now factor in one of the other new FPE letters from Bandito to Bandito. This one is from a Bandito who's found some old murals in Trench, and he's discussing how apparently the fight against DEMA has been going on much longer than they thought.

I think Torchbearer is trying to warn Clancy, right before the battle, that taking Nico's place isn't how he'll win. That "becoming them" is not the plan. "Doing better" is. Torchbearer is trying to break the cycle of Clancy going down this path of becoming a Bishop only to find it's a trap.

Think about the rest of their discography! It's always that Tyler tries to understand his dark thoughts, as hard as he can. And then he can't come to any conclusion except "I'm messed up and I can't fix it." And that's the moment when he asks for help. From the one who really knows him and can save him even though he's messed up.

Think about Heavydirtysoul! "There's an infestation in my mind's imagination—can you save my Heavydirtysoul?"

Think about Addict With a Pen! "Traveling in the desert of my mind, and I haven't found a drop of life—I'm lying here just crying, so wash me with your water."

Think about The Judge! He starts spiraling into all the things that are wrong with him to figure out where he went wrong: "but I'm not good with directions, and I had behind my mouth, I'm a pro at imperfections and I'm best friends with my doubt, and now that my mind's out and I hear it clear and loud," and then he goes into "pled my case, you're the Judge, oh no, set me free!"

Just like Holding Onto You: "And now that I think about it and the story unfolds, you should take my life, you should take my soul!"

I've gone wrong -> maybe I should focus on how = Clancy thinking embodying a bishop will defeat the bishops.

I'm so wrong that I can't fix it -> I have to cry out for help even though I don't deserve it = Clancy learning that this is what trapped him and he's always been the problem, so torchbearer has to break the cycle.

I don't normally do tag games, but I got tagged in this twice (by @jealous-kippen and @remmixx, my beloveds <3) so here I am! (also as I'm writing this out I am realizing that while both posts were titled the same way, it looks like they had different question prompts??? So I'm just gonna combine the two)

Favorite Color: Purple! Any shade will have my heart but I am partial to more red-toned purples. (PV, if that means anything to anyone who sees this other than me, you know who you are)

Currently Reading: Three things! In terms of actual books, I've been slowly making my way through the Riordanverse since my university did The Lightning Thief in my second year (first school in my state to do it once the rights were released!) since I somehow never got into Percy Jackson as a kid, and I'm currently on Son of Neptune. I'm also one like my third or fourth re-read of Eurydice by Sara Ruhl, since that's the play I'm designing the costumes for for my senior project. And in terms of fanfic, I woke up to a notification about this yesterday and Actually Screeched.

Last Song: Dial Drunk by Noah Kahan (ft. Post Malone), which was a bit of an accident. I use siri to request music while I'm driving and I asked for Dial Drunk and was singing along until I got jumpscared by the slight difference before Post Malone's verse. Although if you look at my spotify, the ROTPL album has been on repeat for weeks.

Currently Watching (Series): I've been hyperfixated on ROTPL and have watched it over a dozen times at this point, which is probably not healthy, so I put on NCIS last night for background noise while I ate dinner and accidentally watched like six episodes.

Currently Watching (Movie): Saw the Barbie movie the night before the actual opening with my coworkers (We don't cross picket lines people! I was not asked nor invited by any company, and I paid full price for my ticket. There's a one-screen theatre in the town where I'm doing summer stock, this relic from the 50's, and they were able to get access to the film a day early and did a special first come first serve premiere.) and we all sobbed the entire way through.

Current Obsession: Rise of the Pink Ladies. Full stop. I'd seen clips of it when it first aired in April but I was iffy on it in spite of how good it looked. Like most, I'm a little tired of reboots and remakes, and while I did clock Cynthia as being queer within two seconds, (I believe my exact words were "That's either a very butch lesbian or the eggiest egg to ever egg.") I was Convinced it was a queerbait situation. Plus I was nearing finals and didn't have time to get into a new show. But then Crushing Me was trending on tiktok and I realized this was not queerbait, so I put it on to have something playing while I packed for summer stock and it's been the only thing I can think about since mid May. It got me writing fanfic again for the first time in years, if that tells you anything. Speaking of,

Currently Working On: A follow-up to my previous fic, Steady, Steady! I wanted to have it up this week, but it is a behemoth. I'm a little over halfway through my plot outline and I'm at 10,441 words. Fun fact, this will be my longest single-chapter fic so far. Not just in the fandom, not just on AO3, but ever (so far!)

normally I hyperfixate on christmas like an absolute madlad and coast the high all of December, it's my favourite time of year, I go feral for it, christmas has pulled me out of some really dark slumps over the years

so I don't know what god I managed to piss off this year but it has been absolutely determined to make this the worst December of my life

it's christmas eve tomorrow and I never even got to put my tree up because I've been either too busy or too exhausted, I had to spend $700 on vet bills that resulted in next to nothing so not only could I not get everyone the presents I wanted to get them, I also still don't know what's wrong with my bird and now have to spend another $400 on an xray to hopefully find out, and god knows how much to fix the problem when we find it and now, because of how fragile birds are, I'm terrified of waking up one morning and finding him dead on the bottom of his cage

on top of all that I settled on making photobooks for the most important people in my life as presents, but it took so long for my sibling and I to organise the photos together and then we could only get together to go to kmart to make them last week in the evenings so could only get through one at a time before we had to go home, and then kmart fucked one up and 3 hours of work designing the album and placing the photos just disappeared, I had to spend 6 hours on that fucking computer making a third album and REmaking the second, my neck was killing me, I didn't get home or eat dinner until midnight

and now, the cherry on top, I'm SICK so I don't even know if I'll be able to go out and make the last two albums I need because it would have to be TODAY or it'll be too late

I feel like I completely wasted christmas, I haven't felt good at all at my favourite time of year, everything sucks and I'm fucking pissed off, what the fuck did I do to deserve this

Reason for "and The Shakers": Scarlett said there was already a band named Da Shakerzz >_< so she added her name on front of it and spell it correctly to avoid being confused with that band.

Scarlett and Rudy are dating: Everyone knows that, no need to explain!

Clover is the youngest of the group: This is also a pretty known fact, she's just 19, while the others are all 21 or older

Everyone has worked for Papa Louie atleast once: As simple as that. Scarlett and Rudy worked at the Cheeseria, Marty at the Burgeria and Clover at the Sushiria

Level 2!

SATS made fun of the RFQ: The Romano Family Quartet got made fun off in a playful way in the WTTLO? (Who turned the lights off?) album cover. The 4tet took it nicely and pranked back with the "Opposite day!" album

Remake of Endless Void is better than the original: A big part of the fandom thinks that this is true for various reasons. On my side, both versions are good! ^^

"And I know it's just a rumour" phrase: this has been a recurring phrase in the SATShakers' music, having appeared once in every album from Ying Yang on

Ying Yang was gonna be named different: The album and song were both gonna have different names. One of the chosen names for the album was "Good and Evil" but they changed it since there was already an album under that name; on the topic of the song, it's previous names were "As Double-sided", "Good and Evil" and "good-and-evil-intro-song.mp3"

Level 3!

A Little Too Normal first album covers: This album was gonna have a different cover than the one we know, which is a face made up with pieces of all the members' faces and hair. Most of the unchosen album covers were arrangements of facial features (like the chosen one) but differently.

Rita and Xandra were part of the group: The first 2 years of existence of SATS had the 4 main members and also Rita on backing vocals. I, Xandra, was on the band till the year and 2 months, I played the keyboards and occasionally was the main singer (very few times tho)

The first logo of SATS: The logo used to be a plain, vertically stretched text in lowercase that said "scarlett and the shakers :P" , it was changed after 3 years.

Unreleased songs: These songs were made by SATS and never got into any album. For example, WHAT THE HELL?!, which is the first and only song they made sung by a Vocasyn.

Fans that say "SHAKEREFERENCE!!!1!!1!!11!!" : This is something that the people in the fandom do when they see something that's, in some way, related to SATS.

Level 4!

www.sats-officiaI.com: This is a fake version of the SATS website. Even though it looks like the real one, the L in official is actually an uppercase i. The fake website was taken down after a fan informed Clover about it.

Shady Business Tactics was gonna be in Well-behaved: This is a song that Clover released in her solo album Sushi Salmonella. The song was gonna be in Well-behaved but it didn't make the cut since it didn't fit in with the other songs

Lost Vocasyn covers: On the 1st year of existence on the band, SATS covered some Vocasyn songs. Most of these covers are lost and we only know of their existence because of Vocarank clips. Some of the lost covers are Alix of human sacrifice, Kyu kyurain, One more roll, I'm sorry I'm sorry, Kitsune's marriage, Stop nagging me! and Melt.

Canceled collab with Doom Bruleé: When the band was starting (2 years after SATS), Scarlett proposed a collaboration between SATS and Doom Bruleé. Orion rejected the proposal due to unknown reasons.

The debut album was considered lost media: It was released in 2005 and simply called Scarlett and The Shakers. After 2 more album releases and seeing it wasn't successful, SATS deleted all trace of their debut album on the internet. The problem is that the fans wanted to listen to the album even though it was lost. Hopefully, Rudy had the entire album on a pendrive, which he shared on a forum and posted on UTube.

Extras!

Rudy and Scarlett got beaten up recording a MV: On the recording of the music video for Bad Night, Scarlett and Rudy were beaten up after recording the part where the whole band holds umbrellas outside. Rudy got a black eye and Scarlett lost a tooth and was bleeding out of her mouth a bunch. They ended up recovering well, but no more MV for SATS songs were recorded outside.

20 seconds of Tohru: These are mini segments included in the episodes of The Shakers' Internet Show. They mostly include Tohru goofing around doing her own things, like cooking!

SATS reference in a videogame OST: The 6th release of the videogame series Touhou Project has a song where one of the parts sounds like the guitar solo in WHAT THE HELL?! . The song in the OST is And then there were none!.

Everyone in the band has side projects: All the current members of Scarlett and The Shakers have side projects related to music. Rudy goes under the name Ruru and released Broken swing, Clover has released Sushi Salmonella under her own name, Marty has a UTube channel for guitar covers of various songs, and Scarlett made an album collaboration with Carlo called Foodini's Fabulous Fashion Flambé.

About Will Wood's "The Normal Album"

Yesterday on my main blog I said “I personally think that ‘Love me, Normally’ should have been the final song of The Normal Album. Have it switch places with Memento Mori, because it better encapsulates and summarizes the album.” because I was relistening to The Normal Album. 

I’ve been relistening to Will Wood a lot recently. Over the past couple days I’ve relistened to most of his music, and also listened to the remake of The Normal Album: The New Normal! Will Wood and his Tapeworms have been on repeat in my headphones for the past 2 weeks, and I’m sure everyone I know personally has gotten tired of hearing about him. Anyway, I thought it was high time to review one of my all time favorite albums. 

The Normal Album was released on July 10th, separately from the Will Wood and the Tapeworm albums. Most of the songs on this album have been in the works for years. It is 45 minutes long, and has 10 songs. The songs are mostly long. The shortest is “The most important thing in the world” at 2 minutes and 49 seconds. Though the longest song is “Suburbia Overture” at 6 minutes and 16 seconds. The average song on the album is in the 4-5 minute zone. 

I’d recommend this album to my friends, without a doubt. For those of you who don’t know of Will Wood’s music, he can be included in the same “Autistic gay people music” category as people like Lemon Demon, Tally Hall, Jack Stauber, Bo Burnham, etc. 

He has a very unique sound. He mixes Jazz, Rock, Blues, and Indie campfire guitar music all into one kick ass discography. All of his music is a unique experience, and I personally don’t see how someone couldn’t like it. Actually, it is quite overstimulating. Here’s the summary of Will Wood: Imagine really Jazzy rock music that’s overstimulating as hell. His music has humour and dark undertones, and I love it for that. 

That being said, I realize that a lot of the people I find myself interacting with here on Tumblr are fellow Will Wood glazers. If you’re reading this, there’s a good chance you already know WAY too much about Will Wood’s music, because he’s been your hyperfixation for a good little bit. 

I love Will Wood in interviews. He has a certain vibe to him, and whenever he gets to speaking about something that he actually cares about, he’s one hell of a speaker. There’s a lot of clips of him sitting like a bisexual and vibing while being interrogated, such clips are my guilty pleasures. God, I love his style. 

You know, I should probably talk about The Normal Album itself. That’s what you came here for, isn’t it? The album is about the societal push on people to be normal instead of just to be. It’s about desperately trying to fit in. I have to thank @rowansinjune for educating me on that in the comments of my post about Love Me, Normally. 

As per usual, I’ve picked out the top 5 songs for the people who can’t be bothered to listen to music at its finest. I will say that if you want to get the entire view of the album’s theme, you need to listen to the other songs. These ones are mostly my personal favorites. 

1- Second Sight Seer: Second Sight Seer is very jazzy. It’s one of those songs that convey the album’s theme, although it’s not inherently obvious. 

2- Laplace’s Angel: This might be the best song on the album IMO. It also sounds the most like a Will Wood and the Tapeworms song, specifically from Self-ish. 

3- I/Me/Myself: This song is more comical than most of the others. It’s about a trans woman, but as far as I’ve heard, the trans community not only approves of it, but loves how well the lyrics handle the subject. Correct me if I’m wrong, please. 

4- Love me, Normally: I’ve already talked about how I think that this should’ve been the real end to the album, since it encapsulates the theme so well. To me, it sounds the most like a traditional rock and roll song. 

5- BlackBoxWarrior: This song feels oddly ominous. Between the piano and Will’s tone, it seems like it could be a really fun villain’s theme. 

In conclusion, listen to Will Wood! Any song will do, they’re all great!

fjdkfd okay, look. we're starting off strong with a song i skip half the time it comes on, but it stays on the list because it does also make me go <3 when i'm reminded of it. this is the OST for ossan's love thailand and it's very nearly unlistenable to me and i deeply love it. the MV is very loud chaos in its purest form (i thought that was true about the peaceful property MV and in hindsight that was SO wrong. the peaceful property MV is goofy in its own way but it's almost demure next to this). bonus points for featuring jennie panhan! i don't know how this series will turn out yet (it's a remake of a japanese property, a type of history on which gmmtv (the company behind this) has a mixed record so far) but GOD am i happy to see that they're finally letting earth (the one in front of the pool table) play a role that lets him be the useless immature babygirl object of everyone's affections, instead of a stoic forest ranger (a tale of 1000 stars) or "almost 40" at 29 (moonlight chicken (i am. still not over that. i may never be.)), because he's GOOD at goofy comedy! jojo tichakorn did not make mama gogo (yet another series) to prove this but he did, inadvertently, prove this! also, there's literally never a bad time to watch mix sahaphap on screen because he's always great. also also. a gmmtv series with an actor who is (actually!) 46 as third billed and an official part of the central love triangle shenanigans? yes, please, thank you. most of this paragraph is not directly relevant to this song but to me it is, because these are the thoughts i have when i hit skip. (actually, one thought that's truly about the song: this has an E rating on spotify, which is incredibly funny to me, because the english subtitles on youtube don't have a single thing even close to a curse word in them, but apparently the thai original may be more rude? or spotify is being weird, which is also possible.)

taitosmith!!! one of the first times i listened to them i put on a random album and most new thai song lyrics are way too much for me at once to catch more than a sentence fragment here and there, but then at some point i snapped to attention when it was, like, wait. are they singing that someone doesn't want to be a man? and they were. i love their songs, and i love the music videos they make for them, i love how often those MVs actually add layers or tell their own stories. they have a huge number of songs about class struggle, poverty, getting painted as a criminal, problems endemic to thai society (and many societies, but they're very clear about their roots). the MV for กี่ฤดู (kii reudoo, "how many seasons") tells a much smaller story but caught me at the exact right time to have me sobbing for a bit. and then there's one song that had me squinting at the title going ? is this called "helmet"? that can't be right. but it was! that's what it's called! so i was like, okay, this is a song about. wearing a helmet, i guess. but then the lyrics go something like, wearing a helmet isn't cool, i want to go really fast and smash my head into the pavement, it's my business if i want to take this risk. but then the MV was released (fairly recently, this is one of their newest songs) and in it a guy goes on a sort of vigilante spree to force people into wearing helmets and avenge his family member(? or friend?) who was killed by reckless drivers, and also there's a chance that at the end he's a ghost? which, just. i do enjoy a poppy catchy love song, but goddamn, the journey that one single song can take you on.

เจ็บก็สิอดเอา (stay strong) - MANG bamm

love this one, it's great! in the MV mang (from bamm. mang is her name, bamm is the group she's usually in) stands in the middle of a field in a giant hat and a beautiful dress and high heeled boots and it's honestly pretty impressive she doesn't fall over. it also stars daou and offroad (actors, singers (though not here), etc.; currently stuck on my radar because they're the leads in century of love, which is stuck in my head) playing characters seemingly called daou and offroad (it's on daou's namecard at the start, and near the end he's crying over offroad's actual instagram handle. choices.) who meet and start dating and break up because they have to follow their dreams (that's those few lines of on screen dialogue in thai in the second half somewhere. offroad saying that) and so during the entire video the village is performing a traditional healing method on daou (they're not preparing to burn the man! they're helping him with his broken heart), except then they keep piling more and more improbable things on the fire, and it's a very understated kind of comedy and i'm incredibly here for it. it took me a second watch to realize that at 2:30 daou is absolutely about to burn down the whole music building because it reminds him of meeting offroad, and it's only mang's wise guidance (she shakes her head) that keeps him from going to prison i guess. i unironically love every single thing about this.

แพ้คำว่ารัก / pae kam waa rak - calories blah blah

the title means something like "losing to the word love". we're staying daou pittaya adjacent somehow, because this song is here because he did a cover of it. i'm in love with the band name but i don't really know them. i'm pretty sure daou sang this on an episode of a tv show that seems to be about singers covering other people's songs (i'm right. it's here), and another one he did was รอพี่ก่อน / roh pi korn, which has one of my favorite (of many, by now) moments where i misunderstood what the lyrics of a thai song were doing, because the song is called, essentially, "wait for me", and it's about how he doesn't have money right now but he'll hurry up to get it and then he will, or so i blindly assumed, hurry to his lover. because at some point he sings something about a car, and a train, and a plane. except then it clicked that in between the car and the train he sings about a refrigerator, and for a while there i was having lovely whimsical visions of paddling down a river using a fridge as a boat (?? how else are you going to use a fridge as transport?), but actually. he's singing that once he's rich he'll pay for the car, and the fridge, and the train, and the plane. some of which seem like more realistic goals than others, but hey, go for it.

แม่เกี่ยว / mae kiauw - palmy

you know what. i actually genuinely don't have a long story about this one, not even something that's vaguely related around two corners. i have zero memory of how this even ended up on my list (spotify recommendation? maybe??? i don't really know palmy beyond this one song, though i keep meaning to more seriously explore), i just know i really really like the sound of it! i've been listening to this one a lot.
