Happiness is a bunch of new comic books.
A little story about Mr. Hero: The Newmatic Man Vol. 1 (middle): I've been searching for it ever since I chanced upon Vol. 2 at National Bookstore in Ali Mall last year. The search had brought me to various NBS branches both big and small, but it was always a disappointment. A friend said he saw some dusty copies in an NBS branch in Bataan, but by the time I read his message he was already back in Manila. After a few more fruitless trips to bookstores I gave up and moved on.
Then a few nights ago I was checking out Shopee and, well, boom.
Just one of life's strange twists, I guess -- a thing practically falling on my lap just when I stopped searching for it.
Anyway, the other two -- Total Sell Out and The Violence -- are blind buys. Bought them simply because I like how they look.

Our fearless leader Mojo (along w/ a few other youtubers) discuss Neil Gaiman's Teknophage. Featuring music by: the Unsatisfied, Skold, Evil Activities, Mygrain, and the Braindead.
The Teknophage, known on Kalighoul as Mr. Henry Phage, is the main antagonist of the Mr. Hero comic book series. Though he is portrayed as dinosaur, he is actually a bipedal 65 million year old serpent or snake demon since his powers are beyond powerful and demonic. He was created by Neil Gaiman for Tekno Comix and featured in Neil Gaiman's Teknophage and Neil Gaiman's Phage: Shadow Death and as a villain in Neil Gaiman's Mr Hero the Newmatic Man.
Neil Gaiman's Teknophage was written by Rick Veitch and drawn by Bryan Talbot for #1-6. Paul Jenkins took over from #7 with artist Al Davison until the series cancellation. The character then appeared in a six-issue limited series written by Bryan Talbot and penciled by Steve Pugh.
Henry Phage, sometimes called the Teknophage or Mr. Phage by those that worked for him is the ruler of many worlds, including his home world, Kalighoul. He has survived for 65 million years, feeding himself and practically making himself like a god. However, he is not immune to objects that are Off-World matter, as we have seen in the Teknophage and Phage: Shadow Death comics. He has created his own technology through use of alchemy and has made his world similar to a Victorian era steampunk world. He lives in a gigantic moving building, the Phage building. He has made allies and enemies from almost every planet and has his sights set on Kalighoul's sister world, Earth. Mr. Phage has the ambition of conquering the whole universe and turning it into his personal buffet.
Teknophage has cultivated civilization on numerous worlds. Through his guidance those worlds make great achievements, only for him to tear it all down and turn them into nightmarish worlds. In his dominions, the innocent are tortured, psychologically destroyed, and physically torn apart. They are either enslaved and worked to death, processed into food for the unsuspecting masses, and/or chemically dissolved. Their souls are turned into Teknophage's obedient soldiers. He has devoured thousands of world and killed billions. When he eats his victims, he swallows them whole so that they are alive while being digested slowly. He is known for slaughtering others for the most minor slights, even his own people.
Teknophage has several powers. For one he is able to consume not only flesh but also the souls of his victims. He is a powerful telekinetic, which grant him the ability to travel across time and space. Teknophage possesses a godlike intelligence.

Industry leaders converge in Nairobi for the 22nd Buildexpo Kenya 2019 at KICC
The 22nd edition of Buildexpo Africa is back in Kenya at the KICC Nairobi. Buildexpo Africa is the only show with the widest range of the latest technology in building material, mining machines, construction machinery and heavy equipment. Countries dominant this year are Germany, China, Portugal, South Africa and India with several leading international brands looking to build a solid foundation in the East African market. Italco Middle East Fze (UAE) Herrenknecht (Germany), Bauer Maschinen Gmbh(Germany), Masa Gmbh (Germany) Ferberto - Estruturas Metailicas, S.A. (Portugal), Superfit Steelcon Ltd (Portugal), Acrysil Limited (India), Nordimpianti System Srl (Italy), Rigifoam (South Africa) are some of the market leaders in their respective industries.

The visitor registrations are much higher including top industry professionals such as builders, developers, architects, consultants, engineers, manufacturers, importers& distributors. In terms of exhibitors, the event will showcase a wider range of products and equipment also this year since there has been a focus on the mining, lighting, wood and water industry.
The event generates access to about 14.3 million business prospects during three-days, with suppliers representing over 10,000 products, equipment and machinery in an expanse of more than 10,000 square meters. Last year’s event witnessed international pavilion participation from India, Turkey, China, Italy, Malaysia and Germany. Over the years, Buildexpo has grown to cater to the demands of not just the Kenyan market, but of the whole region of East Africa.
Kenya is certainly one of the biggest markets in Africa, but Buildexpo also lays strong emphasis on attracting traders and importers from neighbouring countries. According to the World Bank, infrastructure is the key to Africa’s economic turnaround and will play an even greater role in the continent’s continued development. Kenya, in particular, is making giant strides in infrastructure and urbanization, with demarcated economic zones, commercial and residential buildings, and resorts for tourists. The country’s infrastructure and construction industry value is expected to double between 2019 and 2020. There has already been a spike in the demand for building material and machinery.

Neil Gaiman’s Mr. Hero: The Newmatic Man is definitely campy, and can be a little twisty. Gaiman created the character concept while James Vance wrote the comics themselves, and if I’m honest, that disconnect was apparently to me as I read.
The characters were classically Gaiman, clearly thought out with a vintage outlook and a sense of humor. Mr. Hero is a steam-powered robot with two heads that represent his two personalities and skill sets: one vastly intelligent, sometimes over-logical type who smokes a pipe (the Ratinocinator), and the other a kind-hearted, protective boxer with a mustache (the Pugilist). Jennifer Hale, a struggling street magician, finds and reactivates the robot after several years of his being dormant, prompting the villain crocodile man who created him and appears to be a mind-controlling, Big Boss of the universe, to get both Mr. Hero and Hale involved in a twisting whirl of traps and manipulation.
The execution loses some of the Gaiman charm, however. A promising character in Hale turns into more of a classic feisty sidekick who does little herself; she only appears in true form when showing her big heart, either while bored with the Ratinocinator or being buddies with the big softie that is the Pugilist. Otherwise, she’s quite the damsel, and usually fairly clueless about what’s going on. Her friend was promising, a big hunk of a guy, but it’s unclear where his character is going, and I don’t like his storyline so far. The villain is cool himself, but the mechanics of when and why he created Mr. Hero are still rather unclear after all of volume one, and his underlings that are sent to earth are only sometimes as funny as they’re meant to be.
The ideas were good, but the execution struggled the deeper into the graphic novel I got. Unfortunately, those discrepancies are trackable: Neil Gaiman’s concepts are excellent, but James Vance can’t quite produce a Gaiman comic.
