Hi grl! First of all I wanted to tell you how much I ABSOLUTELY ADORED your kaz x reader series (exactly as you are)! The way you treated kaz character, how he actually cares (even if he tries to mask it) about the reader and his crows, how he wants to be better for reader, and how he consideres himself weak when he fails at a simple thing like touching his loved one or expressing his feelings... Besides, I hate it when people just ignore kaz haphephobia and trauma but, again, your work was amazing.

Now that you're taking requests, could you maybe do a one-shot/two-shot about him and non grisha crow!fem!reader? Maybe a flangst/fluff, something to do with him trying to overcome his touch aversion brick by brick for her, or with a sunshine reader who's been through so much trauma but she's a sunshine (not naive) with everyone to try and lighten their moods and hide her trauma... or idk literally about anything you can think of (I just want some kazzle dazzle content tbh hehe)

On nights when Kaz felt like sabotaging himself, and that was most nights, he forced himself to watch your restless form as nightmare after nightmare ripped through your mind, making you claw at the plush blanket beneath you, drenching you in cold sweat. Kaz forced himself to watch because it’s his fault. His fault that he didn’t see it. How could he sit here and claim that he knew it all? Knew even the exact time a leaf was going to fall from a tree when he missed something so important right in front of his nose.

Kaz remembers the time you had first stepped into the club. Hair windswept. The cloak way too thin for the winds outside. You had barely given yourself a chance to look around before your whole body grew stiff as you prepared yourself for the worst. See, Kaz had been forced by Nina to hand out leaflets about the club hiring new staff. “You can be wiping your ass with the coins you have and I’m there alone with cracked skin on my hands”.

But everything had screamed at Kaz to say no from the moment he saw you. Too sweet. Too pure. Too innocent. Who even wears flowers in their hair in the dead of autumn? Yet he couldn’t look away. “We don’t sell cakes here, move along”, his cold voice cut through the silence, as he motioned you back to the door with his cane. One more beat of surprise and fear. And yet another beat came out clean and steady. “I can sell beer too or whatever that you sell here”, your hands had been clenched in fists as you spoke. A slight tremble. But even the dismissive silence hadn’t chased you away. “I can mop the floor, I can do it all. Can even sing if guests need entertainment. I just…”, that whole time you had been talking to the darkness. Since the club was empty still Kaz was a fan of hiding in its corners. “You don’t even have to pay much just so I could buy some food”, that had stirred something deep in Kaz. Imagines of Jordie flashed by. Empty stomachs. Cold streets. But then if you were suffering from the same fate he had you wouldn’t be standing there shining like the sun in the spring sky.

But Kaz hadn’t even been close to imagining what you were going through. Nina had fallen in love with you almost immediately so the hustle of you two twirling through the club had become a regular sight. It was the difference in your stance that the first monthly pay had made. You had been late to work the first day after. Your movements were slower. Eyes hollow and tired. “Well one of us celebrated nicely huh”, Nina had nudged you, “Up all night spending that earned coin”, you had returned her smile with a somewhat made-up smile of your own but that had been the first time Kaz had an inkling that something was happening behind close doors.

“You can eat food in the club, you know”, Kaz had managed to find you alone in the storage room, organizing the boxes. Your hair was falling out of the loosely done bun, draping across your face in such an enchanting way that Kaz had to make sure to not let his jaw hang low. You had swept some of it away with the back of your hand, “there’s no need, plenty of food at home”, you said. It was a slight jab and your eyes instantly had grown wide at the realization so you added, “Thanks to you, of course”.

Kaz had humbled, letting his gaze linger. “You can also, as an employee, stay here for the night if there’s a need”, and there it was that sharp bob of your throat. But you shook your head, “I appreciate it but”, you shrugged, “I’m fine in my own home”. You wondered if he was going to push or order you to do so but Kaz had simply turned around and walked away but his mind was already set. Just things had been set into motion even sooner than he expected because a couple of days later you had once again barely been walking at the end of the week.

“You’re stalling orders, man don’t like waiting”, Kaz said firmly, for the first time making you flinch slightly. “I’ll pick it up, I’m sorry”, you said bluntly, reaching for two more pines when Kaz’s eyes drifted to your exposed wrist.

The end of his cane pressed against the purple mark, “What is this?”, his tone was cold, dripping ice. You knew how he was with his investments. No flaws. Always useful. “I… A barrel fell…”, you mustered, making Kaz raise a brow, “A barrel?”. You nodded eagerly, maybe too eagerly. “And left fingerprints on your skin? Do you think I’m stupid?”, Kaz’s tone had turned sour. You quickly shook your head, “Of course no, you are the best…”, “Who did this to you, YN?”, Kaz cut you off making you look up at him instantly.

You couldn’t tell him. He couldn’t know. “It’s nothing…”, you whined right as Kaz stepped right in front of you his gloved hand now the one wrapped around your aching wrist. That not only was purple and blue but also broken. “Looks like something to me. Who?”, Kaz demanded. His electric blue eyes pierce your soul. You let out yet another whimper as your eyes started burning with tears. You had a feeling what end the person would meet and her and now you were the one vowing the thread of life. “My father”, your voice had been barely a whisper but Kaz’s face had turned ashen. And then he turned around. As if haven’t just given him your biggest secret.

“Kaz”, you called after him. Wanted to reach for him yet more than aware that he hated touch. “Go to the office in the back of the club”, he turned back, white medical wrap in his hands, “You are staying in the house from tonight”. Taken back all you could was watch him. As his trembling hands reached for your wrist, wrapping it up for support.

“But…”, you muttered. “Nina will bring you food and then walk you to your new place”, he was speaking as if all of this had been set for months. “Kaz…”, you tried to cut in but it’s like your words didn’t reach him. “You won’t be working for the rest of the week”, he grumbled and you failed to understand if that annoyed him or not. “Kaz, please”, you muttered but once his eyes met yours his expression was like nothing you had seen before, “Any stuff you want for yourself from that place?” You blinked a couple of times before shaking your head. Kaz’s fingers lingered on your skin before he dropped your hand, “Good”, he said as if you had signed your life away to him fully and stepped out of the back room.

Now weeks down the line here he is. With your father’s blood on his hands. Still lingering. It didn’t give him the closure Kaz wanted. The old fuck died too quickly for his liking. Not to mention that Kaz hated the man even more now because even if physical he wasn’t here. His actions still haunted you. “Please”, you cried, head turning to the side as you tried to flee from the horror, “Don’t lock at the door, no, papa”. Kaz pulled back from the wall he had been leaning against, crossing the room in a couple of strong steps. Then there was the choice that he had to make. He doubted that seeing him first thing out of a nightmare would make you happy. So he slowly, through gritted teeth made himself lay on the side of your bed. Now his own frightened eyes watched you because Kaz could feel the heat from your body.

Your head turned to the side with another plea, this time hitting Kaz’s arm. His whole body got ridged. The salty smell of the sea filled his senses. But then a content sigh leaves your lips and Kaz sees the tension in your body fading. The content was minimal. Your forehead was resting against his upper arm, fingers grazing his palm. Kaz took a sharp breath in. Making himself turn to look at you fully. His heart practically clawing at the chest at the sight of your clam features. All because of… but he didn’t let himself entertain that thought. Not now. Not tonight, “I’ll always protect you, petal”.

Ever since you said to watch how kpop stans treat NJ I've been checking the reactions and discourse and you've been right on the money. Again. You could make real dough from predicting how things play out in kpop fandoms.

Get Up by NewJeans is a solid 8/10.

Every song on the EP is an earworm and I've been streaming the album since it dropped. There's no other 4th gen girl group that gets me excited for new music lately, more than NewJeans. XG is a distant second (anon in ask 2, all they've put out so far is a couple of singles which I think are very good, but the actual comeback is in late September so we'll see).

The stand-out songs on the EP for me are Cool With You, New Jeans, and ASAP, but every song on the EP is doing very well (except ASAP that most people seem to hate right now. But I suspect that will change with time.)

My theory of NewJeans' overarching concept being Alice in Wonderland, was confirmed for me in their visual album as that's the throughline idea in all the MVs, despite their very different themes.

The Powerpuff Girls / New Jeans intro being the most obvious analog, starting the EP with taking bunnies inside the imaginary world of NewJeans' townsville, reiterating that they aim to "make you feel like you're in a game", that this sound and vibe is what to expect, etc.

Super Shy which follows the girls within their universe where they're already known and loved (the callback to Attention at the start of the MV which people are already dancing to)

ETA is the first obvious reference to the parasocial attachment that NewJeans continues to highlight in their music. Just as in Ditto, it's self-aware with a morbid and surreal undertone to it. The MV director Shin Woo-seok, has also said the MV plot lesson is centered on how rumours can be used and weaponized regardless of whether they're based in fact. Which... again, just brilliant considering everything about how k-pop stans operate in general.

Cool With You & Get Up are the climax of the EP in my opinion, and in them we see the most interesting and sophisticated expression of identity conflict and reconciliation in parasocial attachments, using the story of Eros/Cupid and Psyche. Get Up, according to Ador, is only an interlude in this EP but will serve as the sonic blueprint for their next album. And this also confirms another pattern I've noticed. Min Heejin has been using one song from each album to hint/tease the dominant sound for the next. So, what I mean is:

1 - In NewJeans (debut EP) Cookie was a slight departure sonically from the other songs on the album, but sounds very similar to OMG which followed.

2 - In OMG (singles album) Ditto sounded nothing really like OMG (the song) but its UK garage + Baltimore Club combo sounds more like the full fledged expression of D&B that we see in Super Shy, Cool with You, and other songs in Get Up.

3 - And now in Get Up (2nd mini album) we hear that their next album project will sound a lot like Get Up (the song).

ASAP is easily my favourite song on the album. It reminds me a lot of Close Your Eyes. As the outro, here NewJeans doesn't hint at it anymore, they show you that you're Alice, and that you're already well and deep within their beautifully fantastical wonderland. There's just enough horror elements in the MV to keep you alert even though everything about the song is meant to lull you into a dreamlike illusionary state. It feels childlike and nostalgic.

If it were up to me, I'd nominate Get Up for every Album of the Year award. And I have to give kudos to Ador for not just collaborating with PPG by borrowing their trademarked characters and visuals, (which is where most k-pop groups and companies would've stopped at), but by finding a way to incorporate even the PPG theme song into their music. Whoever realized that a nostalgic cartoon has one of the most recognizable beats in the Drum & Bass genre and thought to repurpose it in their music, that person should get a raise.

I'm aware k-pop stans have tabled their usual complaints, tried getting various controversies to stick, from claiming Min Heejin was pushing terrorism to claiming that Hoyeon (the respected South Korean actress most known from Squid Game) was involved in making porn in front of minors... thankfully, the facts won (in more sane corners of k-pop fandom) and none of that bullshit really stuck. Now the only complaint I'm still seeing around is that the songs are too short, but again, it just drives home the fact as I keep saying, k-pop stans really have no idea what they're talking about. It's one thing to wish the songs were longer for your own enjoyment, but one of the characteristics of the D&B and Garage genres is their length, because they are percussion-driven and repetitive, songs in those genres are typically shorter.

Also, aside from a handful of other girl groups, NewJeans is producing some of the most fun, interesting, and engaging choreographies I've seen in a hot minute.

Ador needs to be given their due. They know what they're doing and I hope they continue having the freedom and cash to fully flesh out each of the girls' talents in NewJeans, because all five girls are incredibly talented. I'd love for Jimin to work with them somehow, Yoongi too (both as a collaborator and in a production capacity). I'm looking forward to seeing more from them in every possible way.

A new 2023 remake of my "One in a Million" AMV from 2012. Originally, my goal was to just do a remaster with some tweaks here and there, but I ended up doing a complete re-edit with lots of new scenes. Honorable Mentions

Three posts simply were not enough for last week, but alas, I am only one person and my attention span is only so long (ADHD kicks my ass on the daily, but we soldier on through the obsessive minutes of productivity and the hours long spells of procrastination). That’s all to say, I’d love to rapid fire through a few thoughts before tomorrow’s drops because it’s going to be a doozy this week. Jaguar II, Yours Truly Deluxe, Miley, and if I’m feeling generous, I might even give Aubrey a listen. Let’s hop in >>>

Better Things – Aespa: I personally like this sound on Aespa. It fits their voices well; they shine the most when they can flex their vocal technique. It’s clean and the video reflects the brightness. Now, does it suffer from the SM Ent. trademark tone shift and break*? Absolutely. But as per usual, once you get past the first listen and you expect it, it’s not as jarring, [*I’ll go into more depth about this in a different post but iykyk]

HOT TO GO! – Chappell Roan: This blurb is more of an excuse to celebrate the fact that an album is finally coming for the Pink Pony Club. For all of the girls, gays, and theys, if you’re not on Chappell, don’t walk, RUN. After a string of clever, charming, and just damn catchy singles, she’s finally announced her debut album. HTG! Is just as fun and poppy as the rest boasting a chant along chorus that is impossible not to join in. This is a win for people who a) are hot, b) love pink, and c) are kind of annoying, but did I mention the hot part? Go listen. 

Rainy Days – V: I’ve touched on this a little, but I’m just so charmed by V as an artist. I think there’s a clear vision here and it’s a little melancholy, but so warm it feels like the sadness is immediately being nursed by the most comforting hug. Some solo stans are upset about the general reception or lack thereof, but I think we’ve got to look at a few key factors here– Taehyung is doing the promo he wants. He’s mentioned that the company would do more, but he just wants to take the simple route, which I believe is indicative of the genre. Point blank period, R&B does not get the same reception as Pop songs. It’s just the nature of the beast. As I’ve mentioned, some songs are formulated to be radio smashes and they absolutely kill because that’s what they’re designed to do. V is making the music he wants knowing that there’s going to be a muted response and he’s cultivating a space for that. You either rock with it, or you don’t. I for one cannot wait to be cozy listening to this album in the fall. Which brings me to my one grievance: this is not the music to release (even pre-release) in Summer. Pumpkin spice lattes aren’t even available yet, and we’re looking for rainy days. In Min Hee Jin  we trust (I know a lot of people have issues with her, and I probably will never go out of my way to speak about NwJns because some of them are minors and I do not wish to engage minors, but you cannot deny that she curated a great second mini album for them that will transition from Summer to Fall seamlessly) and I know this album is going to be very well produced and he doesn’t necessarily have a ton of say in when he is able to release for various reasons, but I do wish the winter bear was able to reclaim his season. 

New Dance– XG: This one is kind of cheating timeline wise, but I don’t have a ton of thoughts. The song is a well produced homage to the early 2000s hip hop we all (hopefully) know and love. The easy acoustic rhythm and well handled rap verses are easy listening at its finest. I wish this was the follow-up to ‘Grl Gang’ instead of ‘TGIF’ so that it could’ve been released a little earlier in the Summer (I guess I’m not getting over this season thing, but I really think it makes the difference.) There’s a lot of potential here, maybe even another 2000s legend collab could’ve happened earlier in the Summer. Tap Nelly to give you a verse a la ‘Ride With Me’ which this song clearly calls back to. It works for XG to draw on nostalgia to draw in their audience.  Once you’ve got the eyes, experiment on the album which isn’t coming for a while yet.

Unreal Unearth – Hozier: When the woodland fairy king comes a callin’, I answer. There are some bangers on this one. 

AR - EP – Addison Rae: I only listened to the Charli XCX feature because of course, but I’m a little intrigued to listen to it? From what I can tell, the gays have claimed Ms. Addison, which I’m not fully sold on, but I can’t say the marketing isn’t there. Might listen for science. 

[TBR] Snow Angel – Renee Rapp: I like her as a person, therefore I need to give this the time of day before I listen to Addison. I’m always going to favor queer representation over a cosign.

« tsukishima kei, i’m waiting for an explanation ». with a sigh, your boyfriend drops his book on the table, turning his chair around to face you. « i don’t have one, i already told you. you told me to introduce myself, and i did. end of story ». you both know that tsukki did not just ‘introduce himself’ like any other human being would have done. and that’s precisely what you’re trying to make him admit - because your partner looked genuinely scared during practice today. « wha- no, i didn’t look down on him. it’s not my fault he’s so short... » he mumbles under his breath, trying his best to avoid any eye contact with you. but you know that only a slight tilt of his chin upwards is enough to make his eyes lock with yours - and that this is enough to have him admit anything. « you’re jealous, kei. and it’s painfully obvious by the way... » you smirk - but this smirk disappears in a split second as he slowly gets up from his chair, towering over you like he usually does. « ok, maybe i am. but i just wanted to make sure that he knew his place. and especially mine » he finally admits, his lips spreading in a scornful smirk that would be terrifying if his eyes weren’t filled with the infinite tenderness he has always felt for you.

You sat at the bar wallowing in sadness as if the world’s problems revolve around you. You felt stupid and selfish but you could brush the feeling. You downed yet another drink waving the waiter for another who smiled sympathetically before handing you another glass. 

“Hey,” a familiar pulled you from your sulking. 

“How’d you find me?” you said quietly. 

“Got lucky I guess,” that was a lie; he swung throughout all of downtown New York for the past hour looking for you. 

“I suppose you here cause…” you trailed off.

“What happened?” he sat down next to you.

You were hanging with Peter in his room playing video games. You two had a beer just talking as friends do. 

Friends.

Friends don’t usually sit this close to each other. 

“You ok?” 

 “Yeah, just feeling a little tired,” you responded.

“You want to stay here tonight?”

“I- I don’t think that’s a good idea.”

“I insist. It’s pretty late and a pretty girl like you shouldn’t be out so late.”

“Peter.”

“What?” he asked.

“Don’t call me that,” you mumbled.

“Oh, I’m sorry. I didn't mean to make you uncom-”

“Maybe I should go,” don’t let him in; he’s just gonna break your heart like the rest of them.

“Y/n,” he stood up with you.

“Why are you running?”

“What?” you defended.

“You’re running away from me. This isn’t the first time you've done this," he explained walking up to you. You instinctively backed away almost insulting Peter. The look in his face was as if you broke his heart. You felt overwhelmed and you needed to get out. 

You pulled open the door abruptly hearing your name being shouted. You hurried down the stairs to the busy streets of New York instantly hailing a cab. He asked where to and you gave him a bill telling him however far it would take you. 

Peter ran back upstairs freaking out. He pulled his phone out and tried calling you first, he honestly didn’t know what had happened. Peter’s had an infatuation with you since the day you walked through the door in his class.

You two quickly became friends and although Peter wanted something more you always declined his advances and Peter respected that. That didn’t stop him from sharing his fair share of flirty comments that you had always seemed to laugh at. But this time he knew he fucked up calling you pretty but he doesn’t exactly know why it scared you so much. 

He suited up quickly and flew out the window searching every bar, club, cafe, library that you could possibly be in. His heartbeat quickened every passing minute that he couldn’t find you until after over an hour of searching and panicking and no response to his phone calls he finally found you. He quickly changes before heading inside as naturally as he could possibly act to not make you even more uncomfortable. 

“Hey.”

“I don’t know,” you responded to him.

“Is it me? Is there something wrong with me? Did I do something out of line?”

“No, it’s not you, Peter,” you said, slightly raising your voice but not enough to draw attention.

“Can you at least explain to me what’s making you upset because I hate seeing you like this,” Peter said softly.

“I was just having a bad day,” you lied.

“The other day too? I know there’s something bothering you and I want to help you; I really care about you.”

“You can’t help me,” you said frustratingly.

“Why?” he urged.

“Because it’s about you!”

“But-”

“Gah! Peter, just- ugh!” you rubbed your face stressfully. You don’t want but the way you treated him and how you’ve done this too many times to be considered ‘a bad day’, you owe him an explanation; no matter how hard it’ll be to admit.

“Y/n,” he whispered, reaching out to touch you, making you flinch.

“Are you scared of me?” he asked fearfully.

"No! It’s not that,” you teared up.

“Peter, I’m falling in love with you and it terrifies me,” you whispered, stray tears falling gracefully down your cheeks. 

“What?” Peter was indeed surprised. Of course he dreamed about what it would be like if you loved him back but because of the way you avoided him and avoided even the topic of relationships altogether, this was the last thing he was expecting you to say.

“All my life, I thought there was something wrong with me. I was so confused how people can just break someone’s heart so easily. And yet, I still fell in love, over and over again just to get hurt in the end. It went on too long, and I let it. I told myself love is dead. Then I met you. You ruined my plans of dying sad and alone. I tried so hard to not fall but I can’t help it. The second I see you, I get these butterflies in my belly, and it feels like my skin crawls but like not in a bad way, you know? And I’m scared; it scares me,” you cried. 

“Y/n,” Peter whispered, bringing his hand up to your back, rubbing softly.

“I’m so sorry that you had to go through all that and I know that my words and promises won’t do much. I just want you to at least hear me. You are the beautiful woman I’ve laid my eyes on, just being around you is enough to make me feel happier. Everyday I wake up thinking about you and-nand I go to sleep with you on my mind. All I do think about you; your smile, your eyes, your lips, your- your body,” he mumbled the last part shyly. 

“Y/n, I- I want to be the one that loves you; so much that you wouldn’t even think about heartbreak, you’d forget what it feels altogether."

His words hit you hard. You wanted that; you were so tired of running away but you don’t know if you can handle one more heartbreak; especially from Peter, the guy you fell so hopelessly in love with. Is it worth the risk? 

“I just want to feel loved, truly and genuinely loved,” you cried. 

Peter moved your hair from your face and wiped the tears with his thumb. One look into his dreamy brown eyes and you fell. Hard.

Peter pressed you against the back of his bedroom door. His lips were soft and velvety against yours. Your hands were intertwined and your stomach couldn’t help the eruption of butterflies. You’ve never particularly felt this emotive before for someone especially so intimately. His lips kissed the shell of your ear so softly you barely felt it.

“My pretty girl,” he whispered before pulling you to the bed.

You sat down lifting your arms for Peter who slowly pulled your hoodie over your head. He kneeled in front of you and pressed kisses down your torso making you wiggle and giggle. His hands cupped your breasts softly, squeezing playfully as his teeth nipped at your skin along your belly. 

He brought his hands to your bottoms and you lifted your hips to let him take it off. Published by Sabrina Luppi on June 7, 2017 This is a big day for The New Grls Club! The trailer for our upcoming 2 episode web series is now LIVE! Should We Smoke? has been in the works for a long time. Ailish and I created the characters as undergrads, inspired by our mutual love of stoner comedies and female leads who shatter gender roles and stereotypes. We actually wrote a feature length script around these characters, and this web series was meant as our proof of concept so that we could fundraise. Since we first developed the characters and story, things in our lives have changed a bit. We both graduated from SFSU, Ailish moved to LA for grad school, I started a career in marketing and commercial production, and new ideas came to the forefront. Throughout it all, we never stopped talking about this project, and we made it a priority to film a couple episodes. There were a lot of elements that we wanted to incorporate into this miniseries: intersectional feminism, stoner culture as it relates to productivity, growing up and living in the Bay Area are just some of them. We will go more in-depth on these topics, and how we chose to portray them, in our upcoming Behind the Episode videos. We had no budget, just the equipment we'd collected in film school and a group of amazing friends who were down to help. Looking at the footage now, I'm proud of what we were able to accomplish with limited resources, and I'm excited to see what we will be able to do when we're funded :) The 2 episode miniseries is coming very, very soon - as well as those Behind the Episode videos I mentioned.
