violet, lilac, and primrose for the ask game please!!
hello, my cute anon! *boops ur nose* i'm a bit sad rn. but lilac's ask esp. could be good therapy for me. so here goes:
violet — i dont mind cooking but i rlly like baking! my dad had a bit of a sweet tooth and adored snitching the batter. cookies, cakes, brownies. he always asked for the batter after all the ingredients were in and mixed. so ig i inherited a bit of that same "sweet" tooth. i love making "spritz cookies" and choco chip cookies and brownies and chocolate cake with vanilla/white icing — all homemade, even the icing.
lilac — i actually really miss my dad. he and i were always close and had so much in common. he was good with his hands and was really tech savvy like my older brother. he and i also really liked cartoons and anime and action/superhero movies. in fact, he was my only movie partner for those genres as my mom and brother were never really interested in them. he was also really warm and gave the biggest, tightest, coziest hugs! he was also an amazing swimmer; adored the beach! he used to surf a lot where he grew up. was even a lifeguard for a bit. he also did gymnastics professionally for a bit before joining the police department as well as volunteering on his town's fire department. he also loved to cook as long as it was a meat dinner. dad also loved watching sports and keep track of the scores of any and all american football games. my dad would always say goodnight to me, often times while i was in a voice call with my friends. so they'd always also yell back goodnight to him too. lol i could go on but i still have your last flower to answer. oopsies!
primrose — lol technically i don't have a "routine." i'm not a morning person so, unless, it's my early start day at work,,, i normally sleep in until 10-10:30am. if it is my early start day, i wake up at 7:30am, take my morning meds, pour myself my liquid IV and start drinking that alongside my breakfast of scrambled eggs, tomatoes, and green olives. after i wolf that down i check the weather app on my phone and throw on my black jeans and a sweater or two, pack my "school bag" first with my bottle of liquid IV, a book or two, and maybe a folder with my times table if it's close to the end of the school marking period (i'm supposed to fill the sheets and them in before the marking period ends so i can get my check on time). after i pack my bag, i check my purse for my mints, afternoon, and "take at the early onset of a migraine" meds, and phone charger. i lastly brush my teeth, throw on my coat, grab my bag and purse and run out the door.
flower ask game ❤️

How To Train Your Dragon Saga
In the beginning, I was never really interested in watching the movie and never even bothered to watch the trailer, since we thought it was one of those cliche failure movies (and Dreamworks hasn't really had a very good track record of good animated movies at the time), but after being bombarded with tons of Toothcup fanfics and fanarts and after very high recommendations by my friend Jello13 from dA, I finally got down to watching the movie. Boy, was I glad I took my friend's recommendation to watch this movie, and the subsequent sequels after that, because after 3, 4 friggin' times, I still fucking LOVE this movie!!!
Here's my findings of the saga:
Apparently this movie was based on a children's novel written by Cressida Cowell which focuses on the 2nd book in a 10-volume book franchise. There are certain deviations between the real Hiccup and Toothless and the storyline as a whole, but after reading the summary of the original story, I think I like the movie version better. In fact even the writer said so in her blog that she likes the deviation as the movie captured the core essence of her story and it was amazing to see her story to be interpreted this way.
The storyline and the pacing is very good, and the sarcastic humour and slight optimism of Hiccup despite people thinking he's anything BUT a Viking is very intriguing. I love his catchphrases like "I'm way too muscular for their tastes. They wouldn't know what to do with all...this" and "Thank you for summing that up" and his famous line "You just gestured to ALL of me!" is just some of the LOL-worthy lines the talented Jay Baruchel who voices Hiccup does.
I was totally shocked to find out that Gerard Butler plays the role of Stoick, Hiccup's old man! I have never expect him, who is known for his brawniness and action-packed persona, made famous in the movie 300, would actually play a voice-over for a cartoon character. After finding out, spotting his voice and hearing the familiarity was much, much easier.
And of course, the creme de la creme of the entire movie: TOOTHLESS!! He is just so, so, so, soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo uber cuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuute~~~~!!!!! When I read about him in fanfics and caught glimpses of him through fanarts, I was thinking, "Hey, this dragon is quite cute." Now amplify that feeling by a gajillion times more. That's how I feel about Toothless. He started off a little vicious with his snake-like slit for eyes, trying to act strong and tough like the dragon he was, but the moment he let his guard down a little, he got these pair of big doe eyes that is just so MOE and SQUEE-worthy. And of course I finally learn how he got his namesake: with retractable teeth that he can materialize at will
My most favourite scene of the entire movie would be this scene where Toothless finally was at peace with Hiccup and allowed him to touch him. The way Toothless tried to copy his drawing, and then growled whenever Hiccup stepped on his drawing, then Hiccup moved to avoid the lines in tune with the music until finally they were so close they were allowed to touch was just so AWW-worthy. And the music score was perfect too, especially the title of that score: Forbidden Friendship. Isn't that just sweet?
The part where Hiccup and Toothless slowly develop that bond while trying to get Toothless back on his flight feet again was also very interesting as they slowly worked together and forget each other's differences to reach a common goal, while at the same time trying to learn about each other, and Hiccup using that knowledge to good use (the eel and the scratching of the neck part was really epic), making him the life of the team, much to his crush, Astrid's chagrin.
I also love the part where Hiccup tries to convince everyone during the final exam of killing a dragon that dragons are not what they think they are, and tried to pacify the Monstrous Nightmare only to be interrupted by Stoick and having Toothless coming to the rescue (damsel in distress much, Hiccup? XD) and revealed their relationship. It felt really sad and my heart just broke when Hiccup shouted Toothless for him not to kill Stoick and Toothless looked at him with his doe eyes, then Hiccup tries in vain to stop everyone from hurting Toothless, and that argument which led to his disowning, and earning back his role as a son by proving his worth and Toothless' reputation, though a cost of his leg. I was wondering where would be the scene where he looses his leg, since I read that he had a prosthetic in fanfics, but turns out it happened in the near end of the movie, and literally mirrored Toothless' missing left tail fin.
Ending is a bit cliche where he gets the girl, he is lauded as a war hero and gained the respect of everyone including his father, the dragons made peace with humans and all that, but still it was a very heartwarming cliche scene. One that leaves a smile on your face and a sigh of contentment in your heart.
Speaking of Astrid, not really sure it's because of that yaoi in me, but I never really saw Astrid as a suitable pairing for Hiccup. I know, I'm not usually one for bestiality, but seriously, can't you just FEEL the love between Hiccup and Toothless to the point where you can consider them as lovers? Toothcup (Toothless/Hiccup) pairings are in the rage right now since the movie has been uber popularize, and you cannot deny that sort of relationship exist, right?
This one, personally I feel, is almost as par as the first one. Not better, not worse, but more or less par. Hiccup and Astrid are still together, but the Toothcup shipper in me just don't feel like they match somehow. Moreso, suddenly out of the blue, Snotlout and Fishlegs were heads over heels with Ruffnut, which I ABSOLUTELY have NO CHEMISTRY feel whatsoever! Even after I've watched their TV series that led to the second movie, I STILL don't get the vibe or the chemistry between those three people. It's like "Wait, what?" moment.
Although that moment when Ruffnut was just totally thirsty for Eret was absolutely hilarious though. I couldn't help laughing and cringing at the same time.
When the moment Hiccup's mom Valka showed up, I was not expecting her to be so... skinny. Stoick said that he made helmets out of Hiccup's mom's breast plate, and it seemed pretty big, but looking at her, she didn't look like someone who was close to being a big bosom woman, but what is continuity anyways? LOL Though Hiccup definitely has inherited her knack for dragons. Guess it's in the blood after all.
I teared up a little when Stoick died, and I felt so bad that their bromance was threatened by this, but thankfully Hiccup still loves Toothless and is willing to forgive him and try to bring him back to his side. Goes to show how deep their bond is, and Toothless ended up becoming the Alpha Dragon was one of the most epic moments in the whole movie.
It also kinda interesting that Hiccup has somehow became pretty hot in this movie. Was pretty surprised at how he transformed from the awkward tiny little runt of a boy to a strapping man LOL
Plot feels similar to the 2nd one, but the ending was so so SO bittersweet. A fitting ending, but sweet yet painful for me to watch.
My heart broke at the scene wen Hiccup was complaining about Toothless being in love n said "Am I not enough?" and I was like internally screaming "YES! U ARE ENOUGH!! U TWO ARE ENOUGH!! FUCK THAT LIGHT FURY!!"
Throughout the courtship scene btwn Toothless and the Light Fury i was like internally screaming "NO, SHE'S A TRAP! SHE'S A FUCKING TRAP! HICCUP, WHY ARE YOU OKAY WITH THIS?! I'M NOT HAPPY WITH THIS! I AM NOT OKAY WITH THIS!!"
I cried like a fucking baby, especially at the end of the movie. It was like I knew it was happening, that they were gonna break up, but I was in denial, then when Toothless hugged Hiccup goodbye, I lost it, waterworks all over. In fact, waterworks all the way to the end at their final reunion ugly-cried like a fucking baby.
It did ended perfectly; perfectly bittersweet and perfectly heartbreaking and I was like "This is it. It's official. It's over. My Toothcup ship has fucking sank!!"
Fuck you, DreamWorks, you have killed my bromance!! Gahh!! I hate and love this movie at the same time!
Overall rating:

Hello, Well 2018 was a Great time for Cinemas, and what a Year for such Creature Features such as the ones I will be reviewing here, and now may I present to you some reviews of the movies that I've observed on the Big Screen that year.
Pacific Rim: Uprising – My First movie to see in Theaters since I couldn’t find a Perfect time to see Aardman’s ‘Early Man’, but I’m pretty sure this Year would be a Monster of a Movie experience in the Cinemas. Since I’ve have and Watched the First film on DVD, I would think that I should enjoy its Sequel that has been made, and even though Mr. Guillermo Del Toro (the first film’s Director) didn’t direct this Film, he Helped Produce it as well. And as I said before, I do Love a Good Giant monster film, and this film was always filled with Suspense, Action, & Drama, and I would Fear that there won’t be any Hope left if those Giant Monsters win. Also it breaks my Heart wide Open to see a Character who I say and Liked in the First film died in this one. And that one Villainous Character is sure a Wicked Dick (*pardon my Language*) about this one being Possessed by a Kaiju Masterminded Brain. And surprising how that Rouge Jaeger was controlled by a Kaiju Brain, Hit him once & he’ll hit you back Twice as Hard. But I’m glad the heroes win in this Battle, and it took near the Tail end of the Film for the Movie’s Title to appear, unlike the First one where you wait 15-20 minutes for the Main Title to appear in a longest prologue, but for Me, I would almost stick with the Original Film.
Rampage – As I said before, I do Love a Good Giant monster Movie, and this is one of them. And it was a God-Epic monster Mash, even had some hilarious Moments, like when George flips the Bird, and I was like “Did that Primate just flip a Bird?”, though I do know another Ape who can Flip a Bird. And not to mention that the movie is actually based off an Old Arcade game of the same name, and if you Look very closely in the Office Building of Energyne, there are Arcade Cabinets of the Original ‘Rampage’ game, and ‘Rampage: World Tour(?), though I’m not quite sure what the other one is. And the monsters are Hardcore Badass, I don’t know which one(s) are Great (though I pick all of them), and for Bonus, there was another Creature in the Beginning of this Film that was a Rat Test subject. And the Sequence where they hunt the Giant Wolf Down was Awesome and it gave me Goosebumps completely. Plus some Good Elements from the Game is Included as Well, such as Eating People, Tearing down a Building from top to bottom, the military being involved, and Destruction of the monsters themselves. Even when me and my Dad were watching it in the Theaters, and when Dad watched the Commercials for the Film, one of his Favorite Quotes from the movie was “And of course the Wolf Flies”, LOL! And the Lizard Monster in the Film was so Massive & a “Pain in the Ass”, there was no End in that Creature, even when you plant an Explosion in his Ears & throw Missiles at him, he gets back up again, and I thought the Impalement on George would have Killed him Completely, but it was just thru his Shoulders and Thank goodness not the Heart Area or Between the Chests. But still, this film was an Epic Fun Thrillride, the characters are Great & Fun-filled, and I guaranteed this Year would be a Monster Movie Experience in the Theaters.
Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom - Well, me and my Dad seen the first 'Jurassic World' in Theaters back in 2015, so we figured since we love Dinosaur movies, we go this this latest update, and to our Surprise, Original Jurassic Park star Mr. Jeff Goldblum (the big Chill, the Fly(1986)) will be starring in Guest Role, and it was a Surprise seeing him in a Honda(?) commercial to promote the Film. And That my Foodtown was already selling products, even sodas & Chips in Promoting the Features, and it featured some of my Favorite Dinosaurs in the Film such as the Classic T-Rex, and boy was that Opening Scene in the Pouring Rain so Intense, the Surviving Raptor of the Original JW film Blue, who is one of my Favorite 'Good Guy' Raptors, the Comical Dino Hard-head Stiggy, who I find entertaining & Funny in the Movie, and My Favorite Villainous Dinosaur, the IndoRaptor, and if you think the Indomenous Rex in 'Jurassic World' was Terrifying, this IndoRaptor is one Badass Creep, even when she(?) smiles while playing Dead while one of the Soldier guys was about to Chip a Tooth off her, kinda gives it like a Cartoon-y feel to it like the minor ones in 'the Adventures of Pinocchio'(1996). And that Epic moment where the Island was in Volcanic Eruption was so Frantic, even one scene in the Film was shot in One single Lengthy shot during those Round Vehicle Thingies, an I thought the Part where one of the Brachiosaurus was Left behind on the Island while Massive smoke was covering him was the most Disturbed sequences in the Film. Well i certainly enjoyed the film, while my Daddy didn't, cuz he thought there wasn't much action or creature footage in the film, as he thought there was more of some "Love Stories" being put into it, that's why he might like 'Rampage' more, where they showed some monsters earlier in the film, but you might say that some Critics praised Pratt's and Howard's performance, Bayona's direction, the visuals, Michael Giacchino's score and the "surprisingly dark moments", while others suggested the series had run its course, criticizing the screenplay and lack of innovation.
Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation - Well, Mr. Genndy Tartakovsky Never Fails to impress us with this Three-times Charmer, and how Lucky was I to reserve a Seating to see this on my Birthday of 2018, after a Good Morning at the Meadowlands flea Market, and a goof Lunch at Taco Bell, I hit the Theaters with my Dad, and the Movie was Fantastic, and since Mr. Genndy Tartakovsky Co-written this Film (along with one of the 'Austin Powers' writer), I know what some Moments in the Film, there are certain scenes that are free of Dialogue, just like the ones in 'Samurai Jack'. And it was a-bit strange to see a Character from one the 'Hotel Transylvania' shorts that I've never seen, and that short was "Puppy", but in order to watch the short (even for myself), I have to watch that Gross-out 'Emoji movie' for it. But for HT3, the Climatic part of the DJ Battle with Professor Van Helsing (Drac's old Nemesis, and was surprise to see him still Alive in Machine parts) & the Kraken was Awesome, I didn't remember the first Official song played, but I do know the second being 'Don't Worry, be Happy', and the Final one was none other than the 'Macarena' and supposedly it's the Extended River remix version of the song which I have on my I-Tunes and have no regret in Purchasing it, along with Daft Punk's 'One More Time'. So I like the Film and can't wait to get it for Christmas, along with 'Rampage' this Year. And I even heard that Genndy will be working more at SPA where he will be set to Direct an R-rated animated feature titled 'Fixed', and an Adventure Film named 'Black Knight'.
Smallfoot - When I saw some Preview ads on CartoonBrew, I thought this looks kinda Weird and thought I'd just pass on it, but after seeing some TV Ads for the film, and seeing how interesting it looks, I thought I'd give it a shot, and kinda find the movie very Interesting if you wanna feel Young at Heart, and was Lucky to see it on Columbus Day, the only Actor(s) in the Cast i know were comedian Danny Devito & Basketball superstar Lebron James, and to my surprise seeing the closing credit of the film that Cartoonist Justin Roiland voiced in the film as well as one of the Yeti folks in the Kingdom, and I only know the names Common & Gina Rodriguez starring in the film. And the Music and songs in the Film are Nice, and I like how some Advance the Characters or Advance the plot, and it was Hilarious hearing one Song being sung in the tune of Queen/David Bowie's 'Under Pressure', and since Common is a Rapper in real-life, he did a Good Singing on when the Stonekeeper himself tells Migo that Humans & Yetis were Enemies in the old ages. And the other reasone I like watching this film is that I'm also Fascinated with Yetis and Drawing them, as you can see from my old 'YETI & other Stories' story in my Gallery, and one of my Yeti inspirations was the old Unfinished/soon-to-be-Finished David Allen film 'the Primevals'. And don't forget that the SF film was inspired by a book called 'Yeti Tracks', which is a good thing that some Films were based on Books such as 'Mr. Popper's Penguins', 'Home', & 'the Adventures of Pinocchio(1996)'. And I like how the Film was promoted "from the Studio who brought you 'Looney Tunes'" in which case, it is made by Warner Bros., and also the people who worked on 'Storks', and this film now made me think of two Environmental Animated films from 20th century Fox such as 'Ferngully: the Last Rainforest' & 'Once upon a Forest'.
Halloween(2018) - I never even heard that the Original 1978 classic is getting a Remake, although It may not look like a remake, but a True sequel to the Original film, and avoiding stuff on what happened in 'Halloween II(1981)', 'Halloween 4 -Curse', & 'H20'. And I read that the original star Ms. Jamie Lee Curtis will be in this Film, as well as being executive producer for the feature along with the Original 1978 Film's Director Mr. John Carpenter, as in they want to make it look Perfect as the original Monsterpiece, and they did succeed in it in Keeping the Spirit & Atmosphere like the 1978 movie. And I gotta say, Micheal Myers is one 'Pain-in-the-Ass' monster in this Film, like he always is in the original series, and I feel sorry for the People who got killed by that Creep, the Podcasters, the Boy who was equipped with a Gun along with his daddy, and a Woman who Micheal murdered and left a Baby behind. And an amazing thing my dad found in a Twist of Story is when Micheal got hit by the Sheriff, the Sheriff and the Late Dr. Loomis' student professor went out to investigate and kill Micheal, only for the Sheriff to be killed by the Professor, and when the Professor dude wore Micheal's mask, my dad thought that he was gonna be the New Micheal Myers, but Micheal resurfaced and soon killed the Professor afterwards. And one part in the Film which left the Audience in an applause is a Sequence that was based off the Original film, when Micheal attacked Laurie and pushed her off the Balcony, he saw her Body Lying there, but when Micheal turned away and looked back again, she was gone, just like what happened in the 1978's film ending. even after watching this film with my dad, he still had alot of Questions need to be Answered about some parts in the film, and I wish they showed more of the Ending with Micheal being Burned alive in the Cellar. And this may be one Creepy Classic that i might never watch again, but I just stick with the original Masterpiece of Fright & Shock.
the Grinch - Man, I am seeing alot of Good films in 2018, and this one may be the Last that interest me that Year, and this one was an Adaption of Dr. Suess' Classic Holiday Tale, 'How the Grinch stole Christmas', or simply titled 'the Grinch'. And seeing how Interesting it looks after seeing some Previews and TV Ads, especially that part where the Grinch whispers to Max and Fred "This is the Loudest Snow I've ever heard in my Life", I've decided to give it a Go, and hoping to see if it's Fascinating like the Original 1966 Animated Classic and more Better than the 2000 Live-Action Jim Carrey one, and it was. How lucky i was to see this movie on a Day off afternoon on a Wednesday, and I thought i would be the only one seeing the Film in Theaters, but it was also some Girls and their Parents & Guardians, possibly had a Half a day off. But for the Film, I Loved how the Narrator of the Film narrates in Rhyme, like the Original Dr. Suess books, and how the Writers improvised the Story using the same Lines in the Books, and It had a Great choices in Christmas soundtrack, especially in the part with Grinch Wake-up Radio with some Familiar tunes I know and Cherished. And it was a Great Film produced by the Wonders of Illumination, the Wizards behind 'Despicable me', 'the Secret Life of Pets', & 'Sing', plus they did another Dr. Sues adaption such as 'the Lorax', even some of the character designs in the film made me think of the Designs from Disney features such as 'Wreck-It Ralph' & 'Monster University'. And some of the Voice Cast in the film I know of was Keenan Thompson of 'All That' & 'Keenan & Kel' voicing Bricklebaum, a jolly citizen of Whoville, and Angela Lansbury as the Whoville's Mayor, and how Surprised/Not Surprised to hear another Familiar Voice in the Film playing one of Cindy Lou's Friends, who that boy is none other than Mr. Sam Lavagnino, the Voice of Baby Grizz in 'We Bare Bears' & Pepper and Alien King in 'Summer Camp Island'. And I'd thought Ms. Cindy Lou Who would have a cute design just like the one in the 1966 Classic, and she did have a Cuter design in this Film when it comes to the Creative Artists of Illumination. And Yet, this has become another Holiday Classic, and when I told my Mother how much Fun it is, she might be hoping to get the Film on DVD for my Niece to Enjoy.
There was a Movie called 'the Meg', though I may have interest to see that, but I wasn't sure how much interested I will be with the Whole thing. And sorry if I didn't felt like seeing 'Ralph breaks the Internet' or 'Into the Spider-Verse', I go for the Obscure & Non-Disney taste in the Cinemas as of now.

Oliver & Company
So... now we’re into the part of the watch-thru where I start telling personal stories from my childhood. I’m sorry in advance, except not really. I didn’t see it in the theater - I was still too young - but -- I remember all the merchandise! McDonalds had these little plastic toys, and I had one of Georgette, and we had it for years and years, well into the 90s. We may have eventually given it away at a garage sale, but my one vivid memory on the release of this movie is that.
Anyway... interestingly, I didn’t see this movie until I was much, much older, and I was kinda meh about it. But I had only seen it the one time, and much like 101 Dalmatians, I really enjoyed this one! It’s definitely not my favorite of these movies, as in I’m not rushing back to see it again any time soon, but it’s an cute little movie.
The thing that stands out to me, though, is that beyond Great Mouse Detective, we’ve really turned in a corner. Unlike the dreary and drabness of the past half dozen films, we’ve now gone bright, colorful and upbeat, and it’s a really welcome change. Part of it is that there’s a new crew in charge and a new crew doing the animation and they seemed to be able to breath life into an animation studio that had been basically dying for about a decade.
So. Oliver and Co is really an updated version of Oliver Twist. There’s plenty of similarities going on here, and it’s a decent adaptation of the Dickens novel, which is pretty amazing for a Disney film, because they like to throw the source material out the window. It’s update for New York in the 80s, which is kind of fascinating, because rarely do these movies take place in the present. But this movie is a time capsule of the 80s in NYC, and it’s really kinda neat -- especially since I remember this time period, and it’s authentic in a cartoony way. That kind of added to the fun of the movie, actually.
So, Oliver is this cute little tabby cat voice by an adorably young Joey Lawrence - which I did not know back then but I do now and omg, it’s the cutest thing. Dodger is Billy Joel - who does pretty well, even if he’s laying on the accent pretty thick. There’s an eccentric cast of characters who are a lot of fun, too, including Cheech Marin voicing a chihuahua, which is kind of amazing. Bette Midler is around as well, and while she’s amazing as always -- I think she’s a little held back, tbh. But really, over all the characters are fun.
The villain is a little forgettable (I don’t even remember his name) but he does have a really gruesome death -- I was kind of surprised when they showed him being hit by a train.
I thought the animation was fine on this one. A little Saturday Morning Cartoon-y in some places. My brother, though, was driven nuts - because it’s ‘too smooth and not enough shading’. **shrugs** idk, it was bright and not dreary, and not terrible, which is a welcome change.
The music is fun. It’s all 80s pop music, which is totally appropriate, and totally in line for the films that are about to follow it. Bette Midler also does a Broadway number, which is good, but again, they really shouldn’t have held her back. Why Should I Worry is easily the best number -- and I still have it stuck in my head right now!
The weird part about all of this -- despite the cast being good, and the songs being good, and the plot being solid it’s still not... quite Disney’s best. There’s something about that feels a little lacking, though I’m not sure what. But, I think it’s more like this is a rough draft of the fun musicals Disney is going to be known for coming up.
Other thoughts:
The Butler’s name is not Jeeves, which makes me sad. I can’t think of a fictional story where the butler’s name is actually Jeeves. Where did that even come from then?
I looked up 1125 5th Avenue, NYC - and apparently there’s a building there. According to Google Earth it’s 5th Avenue Millennium Aesthetic Surgery. Sure. And yes, I totally looked it up on Google Earth as one does.
Where are Penny’s parents? This really bothers me that they are not around AT ALL.
Not-Jeeves is totally into wrestling, and that’s kinda hilarious. I love when these side characters get fun quirks.
There’s a part near the beginning when all of Disney’s old, famous dogs show up -- like Pongo from 101 Dalmations, and a few from Lady and the Tramp. My brother reminded me that Pongo would be dead by now and it’s probably his grandson, lol.
This is where we do get kinda meta in general -- The chihuahua sings High Ho.
There’s more kidnapping in this movie -- why is this a theme that’s been three out of the last five films? Weird.
JAC Redford scored the film - he also scored the second and third Mighty Ducks movies. Yes, I recognized the name in the credits.
Final Thoughts: It’s a fun and sweet movie, which has more energy in it than the dreary bunch that had come before it. I’m so glad we’re getting into fun Disney again.

43. bosko the drawback (1932)
release date: october 22nd, 1932
series: looney tunes
director: hugh harman
starring: johnny murray (bosko)
first freddy the freshman, and now bosko the drawback! bosko takes on the football field, pinned against some fierce competition.
all good football bands open with a marching band. the drum leader pumps his baton, sporting a giant hat. the tina behind the drum leader blows the feathers off the hat, revealing a bird in a bird cage, squawking in time to the music.
the crowd shots in this next sequence are amazing for 1932! a crowd fills into the stadium, a dog punching tickets with his tooth, and a donkey’s ears service as a revolving gate to get inside. there’s an aerial view of the stadium as the seats fill up. again, it’s fascinating to watch for its time! crowd shots are always a famous enemy for animators.
after some gags used to boast musical synchronization (such as a caterpillar playing snare drums and two dogs crashing cymbals together with their legs), we see our hero getting limbered up for the big game. a slightly painful massage turns into him protesting “be careful now!” as the brute loosening him up nearly cracks his neck in half.
another tony wons reference (which was also used in another football picture, freddy the freshman) where an ostrich asks the audience “are ya listenin’? hmmmmmm?” tony has faded to obscurity for me (and everyone else i imagine LOL), he doesn’t stand out as much as the big movie stars that’d be parodied or the crooners or what have you. nevertheless, the references are always fascinating to learn about, no matter how obscure they are, so i enjoy them regardless.
the whistle sounds and bosko leaps from his torturous massage, right into his football gear. he motions for his fellow teammates (who are much bigger than him) to follow suit, and the ever optimistic bosko hurries onto the field.
signaling the start of the game, the referee fires his starting pistol. out pops an egg that cracks, and the bird inside blows a whistle. you’ve seen this gag once, you’ve seen it a million times, but it was still a nice surprise with the egg cracking. i thought it’d just be another bird/mouse straight out of the pistol, so props to them for something new.
bosko punts the ball towards the camera (borrowed from freddy the freshman), and there are some cool shots of the ball flying through the air and the football players tearing up the field. unfortunately, the scene drags on longer than it could have (though again, in the heart of the depression, so i give them the benefit of the doubt with all the retakes/extended scenes used) and lessens the impact of it. intriguing cinematography nonetheless!
tiny little bosko runs and catches the pigskin, but the force of the kick causes the ball to drag him around aimlessly. thankfully, a wiener dog comes to his aid, forming a protective V shape (once more from freddy the freshman) in front of him, sending any oncoming opponents flying and ricocheting off.
a journalist in the press box is hammering away at the keys of the typewriter, becoming more and more aggressive. in retaliation, the type writer punches HIM back, stamping “nerts” on his forehead. i didn’t actually know that was a real word, i thought it was just something samson from camp lazlo made up LOL. for that reason alone, i appreciate the gag.
time for the cheer section portion. a kangaroo exclaims “rah, rah!” and three of its joeys pop up from its pouch and give the remaining “rah rah rah!”s. another gag includes an elderly mouse on crutches hobbling on the field. he gets hit with the football and spins between his crutches like a wheel. reused from it’s got me again!, but still as amusing as ever, especially with the overall concept of an elderly, frail mouse (who is gigantic) just meandering around on the football field.
an eagle flies on top of an american flag and perches on the flag pole, in the pose of the eagle on top of the flag pole in many upstanding american flags (flashbacks to the flags in my middle school cafeteria).
bosko kicks the ball, and a caterpillar catches it and runs for the touchdown. bosko continues to tackle him, and one by one, with each tackle, the caterpillar loses a segment of its body, eventually decreasing to bosko’s height. love that gag! very creative. there are a lot of reuses in this cartoon, and some scenes run a tad long, but the gags that are original (to this cartoon) really hit well. another quick shot of the eagle on the flagpole, nestling down on top.
look at that crowd shot! this is my favorite gag in the whole cartoon. a cheer section forms the face of a dog who shouts a cheer, and once the cheer is over, the dog blows a raspberry. the spit is actually real people diving from the stands and onto the field! i can’t get enough of it. reminds me of something you’d see on spongebob.
more recycled shots of the football players tearing up the field and the eagle on the flagpole. we pan to bosko, who’s running down the field, when he suddenly halts. he turns towards the audience and says in distress “the hunchback of notre dame!”
sure enough, a ferocious looking brute (who seems to be frothing at the mouth? can cartoon characters go rabid?) barrels towards the screen. bosko, terrified, runs away to save his skin.
unfortunately for him, there’s a “title” card that declares “the four horsemen!” and sure enough, four horses are on bosko’s tail. the use of the card really makes this gag for me. i love my puns! the animation is great, too.
bosko runs back the other way, but the wiener dog from before blocks his path. he bounces off of the dog like a slingshot, and soars over the field, getting closer and closer to touchdown range.
a rock stops him in his path, and he hits his head. in a daze, our hero, clutching onto the ball, staggers over towards the goal line, just making the score. the rather predominant eagle flies up, and the top of the flagpole it had been perched on turns out to be an egg that cracks, revealing three little eaglets waving american flags. iris out as bosko bathes in his glory.
not the most riveting bosko cartoon, especially compared to the last few, but not the worst. the gags that are original really hit hard (that raspberry gag is sublime), there are some interesting camera angles and shots, and as always the music is a hit. there have been much better bosko cartoons, but much worse, too. i’d recommend for some of the gags (and to ogle at the crowd shots, whew!), but it’s mainly that: a gag showcase. nothing wrong with that at all, though!

@gooseapartment: even tho u have dubbed me with less than ideal nicknames i am nevertheless grateful for your friendship (s/n: i typed out grateful as greatful at first and i stared at it like this isnt right and i had to stare at it for 5 minutes before i understood). even tho i FUCKING HATED AS MATHS ARUHRGJWUGHI you made it more bearable and easier to understand with your chinese lessons. im sososo happy you have gotten into kpop this year as i have yet another friend i can yell with. even though your jokes are lame and i never laugh at your puns, i still appreciate you so so much and idk how id survive in chem without you next to me (especially considering the people we sit with aside from sophia). our conversations are diverse and never really boring and i love hearing about your sunflowers and other plants and your art and drawings and plans for a yt channel and your art blog that u havent posted on and your different jisoos (how is that going btw). i honestly wouldnt have survived in china without you and thank you so much for keeping in contact with me n using wechat bc china hates google n fb. you are such an incredibly strong and inspiring person and i hope you have the best time on camp (even tho u have less than ideal ppl to do it with LOL). i really really hope you come to ball this year because it wouldnt be the same without :((( thanks for being a part of my life for the past 3 years and lets make it a great 4th

My favorites of 2016
I know, this is something that should have been posted back in 2016. But 2016 wasn’t over yet and I needed time to process anything new that could have come out at the end of the year.
Luckily, that actually happened, so this list is justified! :D
Favorite Chinese Pop Album
G.E.M.: 新的心跳
A real “gem” of a Chinese pop album! Haha, sorry. I cannot resist the puns. But seriously, I wrote off G.E.M. as just another HK Cantopop artist in a sea of other artists who sound the same - I actually heard of her through Carlos Douh. But then she sang in Mandarin more and released this Mandopop-only album at the end of 2015. Of course, I only discovered it in 2016, and this quickly received tons of replay on my phone. Her melodies are great, and 再見 is possibly one of the best Mandopop songs I’ve heard all year. The entire album is also amazing - I actually like every track on it.
Favorite Pop Album
Tove Lo: Lady Wood
I blogged about this album not too long ago. Do I need to say more? It’s perfect. Even after taking a break and coming back to it again, it’s still amazing. It’s probably been on repeat the most of any other music on my phone.
Honorable Mention: The Weeknd: Starboy
Favorite Soundtrack Score
Allegiant: Original Motion Picture Score
Joseph Trapanese has come a long way since composing with Daft Punk in TRON Legacy and again with M83 in Oblivion. Here, he’s refined what he started with Insurgent while retaining the tricks he picked up from both collaborations to really make Allegiant the better score of all three Divergent films.
I don’t say this lightly because the honorable mention here was Stranger Things, a two album delight that shined brightly on the synth heavy 80′s inspired tracks. However, it relied on too many established incidental music tropes of filler with no sense of melody at all.
In the case of Allegiant, not much is wasted on each track. Tove Lo’s entry with Scars is also what turned me on to Lady Wood.
Honorable Mention: Stranger Things: Netflix Original Series Soundtrack Vol. 1 and 2
Favorite Pop Culture Phenomenon That Everybody Must Experience
Hamilton (Original Broadway Cast Recording)
I am not throwing away my shot... to listen to this album for the millionth time! If there’s one album I must insist on hearing, it’s this amazing soundtrack to one of the best Broadway productions ever. Don’t be like Burr willing to wait for it - sit down and give this a good listen. That would be enough.
Also, it’s the only legal and affordable way to enjoy the musical without trying to score Broadway tickets a year in advance.
Also released in 2015, I wasn’t introduced to it until I was back in Canada mid-year.
Favorite Korean Drama
오 마이 비너스 (a.k.a. Oh My Venus)
What can I say? I was forced to watch this by my girlfriend, my mom, and my aunty. So, I watched it and found myself pulling a marathon.
It hits all the right notes as a romcom without making all the K-Drama clichés. Even the ending was... well, you should see for yourself.
I apologize for nothing!
Favorite Last Minute Surprise Release
Nine Inch Nails: Not The Actual Events
Dammit, Reznor. How could you do this to us?
While the actual EP pales in comparison to the amazing Broken (which Columbia House once described as a “compact slab of angst”), Not The Actual Events tugs at our love of NIN with a raw and ugly sound, straying away from the minimal sound of Hesitation Marks.
Unfortunately, repeat plays aren’t enough to make up for how much I wish this EP was a full album instead.
Favorite Animated Movie
Disney’s Zootopia
It was a close call. I loved Moana to bits, but nothing could compare to this tongue-in-cheek world of furries living life and making racist jokes about other races... of animals.
“Oooh... you see... a bunny can call another bunny, ‘cute’, but when somebody else says it...”
Nice, Disney. I see what you did there. Hiding human flaws in a family cartoon is very clever.
Also, reimagined Disney movie titles like “Pig Hero 6″ and “Meowana” were full of win. Hahaha.
I want sequels, cartoon TV series, comics, viral websites, and more Shakira as Gazelle.
Honorable Mention: Moana
Favorite Netflix Original Series
Stranger Things
Part homage to 80′s kid flicks and part D&D reference, this well-crafted series came out of nowhere. There was something magical about the trailer that made me want to watch it even though I still needed to finish Daredevil Season 2.
From the neon synth opening sequence to the WTF ending, I am so pumped for the next season.
Oh, and I still need to finish Daredevil S2.
Honorable Mention: Marvel’s Luke Cage
Favorite Anime
WWW.WORKING!!
There are gonna be a lot of haters for this, but I didn’t find any of this year’s titles interesting. I didn’t finish Love Live! Sunshine!!, but what I watched was missing the heart of the original cast.
I loved the original WORKING!! series. This follow-up is actually based on the prequel manga and takes place in another Wagnaria franchise location.
The new characters are fun and just as wacky as the original. Here’s to wishing for a crossover!
Favorite Video Game
Hahaha, just kidding. I didn’t play any new video games because they’re stupid expensive nowadays, so I’ve been replaying old titles all year.
Actually, I did play my brother’s copy of Street Fighter V. But would I rate it as my favorite video game of 2016? Probably not.
Favorite Television Season
Orphan Black
Season 4 had some crazy moments. Rachel making her comeback, the shocking fate of Siobhan’s mom, Cosima on the brink of death, lots of Beth flashback reveals, more clones, and more Helena LOLs.
Favorite Movie
Rogue One: A Star Wars Story
What can I say? This movie boarded the hype train and delivered on all fours using AT-ATs.
Then it goes to further surprise us with several references to Clone Wars and A New Hope. Disney has renewed my faith in the Star Wars franchise. Bring on the Han Solo movie!
Unfortunately, none of Marvel’s entries this year were up to par. Captain America: Civil War was just Avengers 3 with senseless in-fighting and Doctor Strange had overwhelming magic to compensate for a lack of movie magic.
Honorable Mention: Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them
Favorite Vacation Spot
Noosa Heads, QLD, Australia
With tons of small shops next to a public beach to die for, Noosa Heads turned out to be my favorite place to just chill out.
But honestly? I loved every inch of Queensland.
Favorite Daughter
“MEEEE!” My daughter would say. I’m inclined to agree :D
