When it was turn for the members to answer questions about you, you leant back into your seat on the couch between Megan and Lara. You waited for Yoonchae to read aloud the rules for the nth time, your arm behind Megan, who sat up in preparation for the trivia about you.

“This was the site of y/n’s first kiss--!”

“Outside english in 7th grade!” Megan yelled, her hand held high and her finger up. Manon groaned, flailing her body back in defeat as Lara held a palm up to Megan’s face. Daniela scoffed, and Sophia raised an eyebrow at the way the Chinese member seemed to be disrespecting the point of the game for the who knows how many time in a row.

“Let the poor girl finish!” Daniela knocked into her knee.

You and Lara sat, ready, as the crew prepared for the shooting.

In another room, Megan stood before a wall of screens. Her arms crossed and her hair clipped, she watched the two of you adjust yourselves and stay professional.

The video editor for Katseye added a little twinkle beside Megan’s eye as the camera trained on her look of adoration, before it panned up to the screen she was focused on; the angle fixed on you, sitting by the window, your hair done and your features sharp, contrary to the usually, softer edge you carried in your expressions. You and Lara complimented each other very well when it came to the ‘hunter gaze’.

With impeccable timing, Megan strolled over, coming onscreen with a grimace at the two of your antics. Upon catching the expression, a mix of disgust and confusion, on Megan’s face, Lara began laughing hysterically.

Unexpectedly, you grabbed Megan’s hand, yanking her closer to you. You mouthed the lyrics to Confident, before pouring over her shoulder. Instinctively, she turned her head to glance at it, before your fingers gently grabbed her chin, turning her face back to you. You smirked, your lip tugging in between your teeth as the instrumental broke. When you started singing again, Megan’s shoulders were tense and there was an unreadable scrunch in her face. Her cheeks were pink and she couldn’t keep her eyes off you.

At that point, even Manon had stopped her own attempts at winning this rizz fest, but instead joined Lara in teasing Megan with the fans with knowing stares and joking gestures.

When the song was over, you had an arm around Megan’s waist, the other hand running through your hair as you grinned. “Sorry, Meggerz, you just fell victim to me absolutely making Manz eat my dust at a little competition.”

Megan shrugged, trying to play off the colour in her cheeks.

I was a long time follower of @lunerabo. I haven’t been on tumblr for some time, but I came back to it a couple of days ago to check in. Imagine my surprise when I find that a creator I liked will never produce content again because they were driven to suicide over something trivial. I read through everything and they were an asshole about it and their conclusion was extreme, yes, but I read the whole thing. Almost everyone who reblogged that post after you was calling for their death. And when that was brought to your attention, you only showed how little you value human life. You have the way of someone who’s proud that they set that in motion and I think it’s only because you did it from behind a screen. Palestinians are being slaughtered in the streets and immigrant families are being ripped apart at the Mexican border yet your biggest problem is someone you will never meet thinking three words English speakers have been saying probably since those words were invented. And you let those words have so much agency over you that you instigated their suicide for it. You have a very narrow field of vision with which you view the world around you and I hope you expand it because this is the most chronically online behavior I’ve ever seen. Black person to black person, I’m not going to tell you what you should and shouldn’t be offended by. But being part of a marginalized group sadly means you aren’t judged as an individual, what you say and do reflects on your entire community. The only way to fight to see that changed is to show kindness, educate, and be educated, and you don’t reflect well on the community by acting like this. I pray, I really do, for you to find peace.

Wren has always been beautiful.

Silas had always thought so. Even at Wren’s worst, even when it wasn’t wholly appropriate to think. Silas had thought so since that very first day, since he was dragged into this place clawing and biting, since Wren had looked up at him from his place in the common room and smiled at Silas, sympathetic, as he was dragged into hell.

It was striking, even then, even disoriented and scared and confused. Wren was a bright spot, a glimmer of light in a bland, grey prisonscape. He’s beautiful like no other person Silas has ever seen, beautiful in a way reserved for the sunrise and the moon, so beautiful it actually gives him an eerie, kind of inhuman quality, even now, even still.

Wren has always been beautiful and Wren is beautiful still. But this —

There is nothing beautiful about this.

It’s ugly. It hurts something low in Silas’ chest.

It’s a film strip that’s been double exposed. Wren’s always been beautiful, and so particular about his hair; Wren has fairytale hair. It’s impossibly long, fairytale long, and the colour of snow, kinda, but he’s always so particular about it, he takes such good care of it, something that’s only his, something that belonged to him before this place, something they let him keep, and his hair always shimmers, perfect, iridescent. Silas has always found it kind of hypnotizing. Wren’s always so careful about how he braids it.

His hair is a mess. It had been pulled up into a ponytail with a piece of pink ribbon that’s gotten mostly lost in the tangles of his hair. Loose strands stick to his face, his throat, his waist, the insides of his thighs with tears, spit, sweat, semen, blood. He’s wearing some demeaning little pleated skirt, the same pale pink as the ribbon, and it’s short, it’s so short, and there’s so much visible skin that Silas can see almost every bruise, big and purple and splotchy and broken, like road rash. He can see all the blood tracked down the insides of his bruised thighs. He can see handprints. Tooth prints.

How is this happening? How did it get to this?

“Wren,” he hears himself say.

“Leave me alone.” His voice is the flattest Silas has ever heard it. He doesn’t lift his face from the carpet.

“Wren.” He doesn’t know what he’s gonna say. What can he say? He reaches a hand out, almost instinctive.

“Don’t touch me.”

“Wren —“

“Don’t fucking touch me,” Wren snaps, almost screams, and he finally lifts his head as he flinches away.

Most of the left side of his face is that same broken, road rash bruise. His mouth is swollen. His eyes, from crying. He doesn’t have hickeys, but proper, scabbing bite marks, bruising his jaw and his throat.

So much bruising. So much blood.

Silas knows what to do.

He struggles with that, sometimes.

Wren was allowed to keep his hair; Silas was, as well. It’s all Silas got to keep.

No part of Silas is the same as it was when he got here; no organ, no arterie. Silas isn’t human anymore, Silas is a weapon, but he tries, oh my god, he fuckin’ tries, if nothing else he tries, and he’s getting better, he thinks. He just struggles sometimes with human emotions, with feelings, thoughts, with what to do, what to say.

He knows now, though. What to do.

No part of Silas is really human anymore, but most of him is all still attached. His left leg, however, isn’t, and the replacement he’d been given, as a massive, inhuman superfreak, is heavy and deadly and fuckin’ uncomfortable. It pinches. Silas hates it almost more than anything. Unless he absolutely has to wear it, he gets around in his chair. It’s how he gets back to his room, where, without even a groan of displeasure, he makes quick work of his superfreak prosthetic.

On his own, he stands. Onto his chair, he piles one of his crewnecks, a favourite of Wren’s because of how cartoonishly large it fits him. Silas piles his comforter on top. From Wren’s room, he grabs his hairbrush and a pair of his joggers. Their clothing is the same dull grey as everything else in hell — prison grey, Silas thinks of it.

He limps his chair back to the common room. He folds the sweatshirt and joggers over the back, brush hooked in one hand as he holds open the blanket. “Okay,” he says. “Come.”

Wren’s head is down again. He’s right where they dumped him, a pile on the common room floor. “Leave me alone, Silas.”

Silas frowns. “No,” he says. “Come. I won’t touch.”

Slowly, Wren lifts his head. He blinks up at Silas with huge, wet eyes. “What?” He says, less sharp but a bit more broken. “What are you doing?”

Silas shakes the blanket at him. “Come.”

He isn’t expecting the way Wren’s face crumples, or the way he sobs. Softly, he says, “Wren?”

Wren turns his face away, but when he sobs, he sobs, “Silas.”

Folding the blanket and the brush back onto his chair, Silas limps around it to slowly, awkwardly maneuver himself onto the carpet next to Wren. Within reaching distance, but he’s careful not to touch.

Wren doesn’t lift his face and sobs into the carpet.

Slowly, Silas lies down, on his back next to him. He reaches out, he doesn’t touch, but he invites, and without looking at him Wren shifts into his arms and sobs into Silas’ shoulder.

Silas covers his back with a massive, gentle hand and lets him cry.

He cries for a long time.

Eventually, his sobs soften to sniffles and the hitching of his back slows under Silas’ hand. He says, into Silas’ grey sweatshirt, “I didn’t want you to see me like this.”

“Why?” Silas asks.

Wren’s chest hitches. His voice cracks when he says, “I’m disgusting.”

He frowns. “You’re not disgusting.”

Wren hiccups out a sob.

“Wren,” Silas says, “you’ve held my organs inside my body for me. This is nothing.”

He sobs again.

Silas thumbs slowly across his back, over the stiff, ripped material of his shirt. “Let me take care of you this time, Wren,” he says. “Please.”

“You shouldn’t have to take care of me,” he says softly.

“I don’t,” Silas says. “I want to.”

Wren’s small fist curls into Silas’ crewneck. Into his chest, he whispers, “they really hurt me, Silas.”

“I’ll take care of them,” Silas promises. He already knows how he’ll do it. It won’t be slow but it will be painful. “Let me take care of you first.”

Wren doesn’t answer him, but he nods into Silas’ shoulder.

Softly, Silas asks, “can I pick you up?”

He nods again.

Gratefully, gently, Silas lifts Wren into his arms and from there, into his chair. He pulls the grey blanket around his shoulders and Wren sinks into it gratefully.

The bathroom is cold, and the water doesn’t get hot, but it gets warm, so Silas runs it warm before he limps across the bathroom to gather an armful of towels. He held Wren to his feet, and leaves the towels in his place.

“You don’t have to do this,” Wren says softly.

���So?” Silas says.

He blinks up at him, a bit taken aback.

Supporting most of Wren’s weight, Silas says, “do you want my help getting undressed or do you want me not to touch you?”

Wren blinks up at him again, sniffling. “Would you help me?” He asks, so soft he’d barely spoken.

“I’ll do anything you ask me to,” Silas answers.

Wren makes a soft sound, and Silas is careful not to touch any of the bruises as he bumbles through small buttons and zippers with huge hands. He helps Wren out of his ruined skirt and into the lukewarm water. Silas doesn’t undress, but he follows him in, letting Wren lean hard against him as he lathers a washcloth he hands to him before getting to work untangling his hair.

It’s a careful few hours of effort, because Wren has so much hair and it’s so matted, caked with blood, grime, semen.

Silas is meticulous. He brushes it out. Washes it. He isn’t a great braider yet, but June had been teaching him the basics, and he can struggle his way through a sloppy French braid. He tugs the elastic out of his own hair to tie it off, and once he’s done, Wren turns to look up at him and he’s crying again.

“Wren?” He says.

And Wren surges forward, pushing his face into the hollow of Silas’ sternum, arms tight around his waist.

“Thank you,” he whispers into his wet sweatshirt.

Silas cradles the back of his head with one hand. “It’s okay,” he says.

In truth, he would die for Wren in a heartbeat. This is nothing.

Full Gastro Obscura Interview

A while back I posted about the interview I did with Gastro Obscura. (If you haven't seen it, click the link and check it out! It's about the importance of cuisine in worldbuilding. It features other worldbuilders too and their work is great!)

They weren't able to use the entire interview in the article, but gave me permission to post it here. I wanted to wait a while before I did so that their blog could get the clicks it deserves.

Now it's time, so here it is!

1) What name would you prefer me to use for you in the article? And where are you located?

A ) You can just call me Alex or Alex Greys! I’m located in Washington, USA.

2) How long have you been worldbuilding? And do you do it primarily as a hobby for its own sake, or as part of a larger project you are developing?

A ) I’ve been worldbuilding since I was in kindergarten, or maybe a little before then. I learned to read and write earlier than most kids, and I spent a lot of time writing fantasy stories and creating worlds for them. In retrospect, I wouldn’t call it a hobby. I think it’s more of a coping mechanism I used to escape reality, because I’ve spent most of my life trapped in situations where I have no control. Worldbuilding gave me control over something.

I didn’t start taking it seriously until 2017, when I contracted a flu that left me with severe post-viral syndrome. I was stuck in a wheelchair for over a year and developed chronic conditions that kept me in bed for long periods of time. My body was broken, I could hardly do anything physical for years after that. I decided this was the time to buckle down and finally do something with this writing skill I developed.

I wanted to commit to a larger project than the little ones I’ve done in the past. I started writing the World of Looming Gaia series in 2017, and it’s still going strong 7 years later in 2024! My health has been up and down ever since, but Looming Gaia has always been there to support me when my body won’t.

3) Was food always something that you incorporated into your world? If not, when/how did food become an aspect of your worldbuilding?

A ) This part is pretty interesting, because even though cuisine is so essential in real-world cultures, it wasn’t something I thought about until several years into my project. I believe this is because my health conditions really limited my diet. By that I mean, I could only tolerate the same 3 or 4 bland foods every day for years on end, and this limited diet was driving me insane. Eating became this immense source of stress and physical pain for me. I resented food and never wanted to think about it.

One day, my husband complained that he wanted food from a restaurant, but we couldn’t afford it. So, I told him I would cook him something instead. I never cooked much in the past, but I looked up a random recipe online and gave it a go anyway. It turned out pretty good, so I started researching more about cooking so I could make more meals for him.

Cooking for other people fixed my damaged relationship with food. I was still stuck on the same bland diet due to my health, but I didn’t resent food anymore. I finally saw the value in cuisine as an art form and developed an interest in it, so I decided to incorporate it into my worldbuilding. Looking back, I’m embarrassed that it took me so long to incorporate something so vital into my world. I think cuisine is one of the first things worldbuilders should think about when developing cultures.

4) Why is it important for you, or worldbuilders in general, to consider the food that characters are eating, and make food a part of the storytelling?

A ) What people are eating can tell you a lot about their culture, and it can tell you a lot about the area where they live too. When you examine what’s on a character’s plate, you get a glimpse of what crops and meats are available to them, and this forces the worldbuilder to consider things like the climate and geography of that location. It all ties together.

It also gives the worldbuilder an opportunity to explore their cultural practices, like maybe they are from a purely vegetarian or carnivorous culture, and the worldbuilder must come up with reasons why that might be. They can also consider the health implications of such a diet, and that might change the appearance or behavior of a character. Cuisine can say so much. It opens the doors to all kinds of stories and concepts.

5) When it comes to food, what factors or details are most important for you/worldbuilders in general to consider?

A ) When worldbuilding, I think it’s important that different aspects of your cultures feel cohesive and make sense. For example, let’s say you wanted to create a culture that lives in an arctic tundra environment. You decide that their native cuisine is hippopotamus meat and coconuts because it sounds cool or whatever, but you should ask yourself if that really makes sense when their environment doesn’t support those plants and animals.

Worldbuilders should ask themselves what their people/creatures are eating and also WHY they’re eating it. Is it because they have to, for nutrition or scarcity reasons? Or because they prefer these foods over others for taste? The history of the region and the biology of the people matters too. How accessible is food to the average person in this culture? Is famine an issue? What do the rich people eat compared to what the poor are eating? Do they use ingredients that are imported from other lands?

These are some of the questions worldbuilders should ask themselves when developing cuisines. As you write the answers, you’ll find pieces of a puzzle naturally coming together and building cohesive concepts.

6) Where do you get inspiration from? Real-world cultures, history, etc.? 

A ) Inspiration comes from everywhere! Sometimes I look at real-world cuisines from regions that are similar to my own, and I ask myself if these dishes would make sense in my lore. If not, I can tweak them as needed and create something more original.

I take a lot of inspiration from what animals eat too. When you’re writing fantasy creatures with animal traits, like centaurs and satyrs for example, I think it’s helpful to look at what those animal counterparts eat in the real world and why.

Do they have specific nutritional needs? Do they have to eat hard things to grind down their teeth? Do they eat little stones to help them digest stuff? These dietary factors can carry over into fantasy species too and make them more interesting.

7) Tell me a little about the process for developing the different cuisines that you profile in Looming Gaia. Do individual characters, settings, or cultures that you have created dictate the food that you think of? Or is it more the other way around, that you think of an interesting idea for food first, and then see where it fits into the setting?

A ) When I’m developing a cuisine, the very first thing I do is look at the climate and geography of the region. I ask myself what kind of crops would grow there and what kind of animals would make the most sense to hunt and ranch. I also look at the species of the peoples who live there. A troll’s diet, for example, is going to be very different from a human’s diet because they have different nutritional needs.

The next step is to consider other factors such as religion, economy, trade relations with other regions, and so on, because these can all affect what resources are available to them. I think about what foods may not be native to the area, but could be imported from foreign lands.

I never come up with a cuisine first and build a culture around it, though I do think this is a perfectly valid way to worldbuild. I always take the opposite approach and build the cuisine around the culture. I try to create at least 10 traditional dishes per region, including a typical breakfast, lunch, dinner, dessert, snacks, and drinks both alcoholic and non-alcoholic. When all of them are put together, it can paint a vivid picture in the reader’s mind of what the whole culture is like.

8) What’s one aspect or detail of your own food worldbuilding that you are most proud of, or think is the coolest?

A ) So far I’m most proud of my Mogdiri cuisine concepts. The Mogdiri are a kingdom of magic-users who refuse to eat animals for cultural reasons, but they don’t consider insects to be animals. For this culture, I had to come up with traditional cuisine that centered around bugs and bug byproducts. It was intimidating at first, but I’m really happy with the way it turned out.

Quite frankly I don’t think the hate for Noah will ever fully go away. This is because a lot of the people throwing hate at him were never even fans of the show or him to begin with.

We still see the show having an immense amount of fans despite all the claims to boycott it, and it’s bc those claiming they wouldn’t watch it because of him never did anyways. And even fans saying they’ll just pirate it, probably already did that on a regular basis to make edits/take screenshots for all the content they watch. It’s just their attempt at feeling morally superior while guilting other people, as if that removes any guilt they may have for supporting it still.

I know a lot of people that watch Stranger Things, friends and family alike. And even the ones who are on social media, who are also sympathetic to Palestinian’s plight, seem to think that the hate for Noah is blown out of proportion. Honestly, most of them were indifferent to him before all of this, and if anything they seem to like him more because of what he’s going through.

Since a lot of the hate is coming from non-fans, that hate will never go away unless something happens that magically changes their feelings about it. And as long as it’s still a popular opinion amongst those chronically online, with a lot of people feeling obligated to go with the crowd and do what everyone else does in order to thrive on here, it’s going to continue to be the norm.

It’s unfortunate that posts demoralizing him and wishing him harm do immense numbers, but the reality is most of those people have no knowledge of him outside of this. And as long as all those people feel that way, hate for him will continue to exist and pressure people who don’t even hate him to feel compelled to just because so many people feel that way.

Then again, people are so fucking stupid and fickle in their outrage, that something as simple a bunch of fans ignoring the hate and loving his role in s5 could make a lot of people switch up just because that becomes the louder majority, making those that lie somewhere in the middle on their feelings about him revert to liking him to feel apart of the more popular opinion at the moment.

i agree that certain part of the internet will always hate him but considering how fast the sentiment online changes, i think things will get good enough that the hate towards noah won’t be the norm like it’s being these past few months. just look at how twitter made the likes and now tweets supporting noah have way more likes than before. people like him but are afraid of being called out which is very sad that people feel that threatened but i think we have a good foundation there. as soon as it’s not dangerous (for lack of a better word) to like him publicly, i feel like we’ll get to a very good place. it’s slowly getting better because we’ve also seen how tweets wishing for his death or attacking him used to get over 100K likes but now they don’t get that much traction because people move on and get fixated on other stuff. there’s also the fact that people who had strong negative feelings about him are starting to see that the level of hatred he received was way out of proportions and are being more being more kind towards him. it’s also important to remember that real life is completely different because people in real life literally were lining up to take pictures with him at that niall horan’s concert.

the show is so mainstream that it’ll never actually suffer in terms of viewership and i think noah can get the GA on his side by showcasing his talent this season. one thing that i’ve always said is that noah was extremely lucky that this all happened before S5 was released because he’s got plenty of opportunities to show to that big audience who he actually is and his talent. like i mentioned before, i agree with you that there’s a fringe of the internet that will hold the grunge forever and obviously there wil people that will never like him for many reasons but i see a big room for growth here, it’ll depend a lot on how he manages the months right after st5 comes out and i hope he and his team is already preparing for that.

okay so i’m usually more of a silent follower (i’ve only like sent one ask ever) but i kinda love your posts/talks about things that you love (even if it’s not necessarily something i care about,,i just love it when people talk about their interests it’s amazing),, so i’m kinda curious about why do you think sos should have won over midnights,,, not saying that sos is bad or anything i actually love the album and sza but i was rooting for midnights honestly and personally think it deserves the title for many reasons,,, like i’m NOT saying that sos didn’t deserve to be aoty on the contrary, all the albums that were nominated are amazing and all had their big impact and the title is very subjective and ngl, this is one of those years where the nominees are all so good it’s actually quite a tough competition to choose between, but personally i found that midnights deserved it the most so i’m actually really curious to know your opinion on why sos should have gotten it

Okay, so first off, thank you for sending in this ask and allowing me to speak about something I care about!! Second of all, when you added racism in the "don't have any valuable reasons section" what did you mean by that? I'm not coming for you or anything. I'm just curious if you meant racism towards Taylor or if you mean racism towards SZA.

anyways, now for my thoughts.

So, while I obviously agree that SOS is a great album, the part I disagree with is Midnights being a good album. I don't like it; I never did, and I probably never will. And this isn't me being a Taylor hater; I am a Taylor Swift enjoyer and have sat down and listened to a few of her albums. While none of them absolutely stunned me, I do think she's an overall good musician and can make a relatively good body of work. Midnights is a snoozefest. It's boring and doesn't hold a candle to the rest of her discography, which I feel fine saying because I know there are a significant amount of swifties and non-swifties alike that agree.

To me, midnights is nothing special, and most of the songs blend together. It's not completely bad, though; it has its good moments, but the many cons, i.e., boring instrumentals, mediocre lyrics, no super deep meanings, etc. outweigh the very few pros, i.e., Snow On The Beach ft. Lana Del Rey, but more importantly, Snow On The Beach ft. more Lana del Rey. And I just can't get behind Midnight's winning album of the year after being the pinnacle of mediocrity.

Now, if you wanna talk about impact, let's talk about impact. Midnights broke tons of records, most notably taking up all ten top spots on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, a feat that no other artist has managed to accomplish. But that wasn't because the album was good or because the general public was tuned in; it's because of streaming culture, because, like most fandoms these days, swifties are rabid and reaching for the charts. That, combined with the sheer size of Taylor Swift's fanbase, means that the album was bound to do well regardless of whether it was good or not.

SOS, on the other hand, obviously didn't chart nearly as well as midnights (although it definitely did chart, like, let's get that straight bc Snooze didn't leave the chart at all last year). But that doesn't automatically mean that it was less impactful, because charts aren't that reliable these days so you have to find other means of calculating impact, and this is when we turn to social media.

(I'll be using tiktok for reference as I feel that since the app relies on music as its #1 source of content, that's the best representation for my argument)

So I'm an avid TikTok user, chronically online, way too invested in drama that doesn't involve me, a loser, blah blah blah whatever, who cares. The point is that I spend enough time on TikTok to be able to observe many different trends going on at the same time and their musical origins. There are so. many. songs. on SOS that trended on tiktok. You could not escape SZA on that app, not even if you wanted to.

Kill Bill, Seek & Destroy, Low, Blind, Snooze, Ghost in the Machine, Shirt, I Hate U, Good Days, etc.

All songs that I've heard on TikTok at one point or another, some of them having their own designated trends to go along with certain lines, and I'm sure there's more I missed.

This specific point means so much to me because I need you to understand that I didn't listen to SOS in full until WAY into 2023 (the album came out in 2022 for reference), and each track was so familiar because I had already heard so many of them on TikTok.

Now, I'm not saying that there weren't any songs on midnights that trended on TikTok. Obviously, there were. i.e., Karma, bejeweled, Midnight Rain, that one part in The Great War, etc., but when I say that most of the songs from Midnights that trended on TikTok were pretty much always used in the context of Taylor Swift, I mean that. I cannot stress this enough. If there was a song from Midnights playing in the video, then I can guarantee that Taylor was being mentioned in that same video, whether it be the eras tour, speculation about her and Joe Alwyn's breakup, her and Travis Kelce, speculation about which Taylor's version album was coming out next, or literally anything pertaining to her at all.

You might think that this is a stupid point, but to me, it's a good example of the fact that it wasn't an album the general public was interested in. And I think for an award like Album of the Year at the Grammys, the album in question should be one that is either objectively good, incredibly poetic, and thoughtful with a deep message, or beloved by the general public, and midnights wasn't any of those.

As for the misogyny and slutshaming, I'd never in a million years agree with that and don't condone that by any means. Pure hatred, if unwarranted, isn't something I really care about either because I'm a hater at my core and have a lot of one-sided beef with people who don't know me. But I will say that most people I know who don't like Taylor Swift do actually have one or two valid reasons. It's not that hard to find them, what with white feminism, not using her platform for good, dating a known racist, and committing ecological warfare, amongst other things.

If the racism you're referring to is in regards to people bringing up her privilege as a white woman, and it bothers you that people are bringing it up, then I'm sorry, but I'm not the person you want to talk to about that because I won't agree. The Grammys have a history of snubbing black and POC artists in general to favor their white counterparts; in fact, the entire music industry has a history of it, and this situation isn't any different in my eyes.

OFMD Season 2 Love 🖤🏴‍☠️

I’m a Tumblr veteran, joined when I was 13 (YIKES I KNOW). I deleted my old account because wow cringe. I was huge into Doctor Who and Supernatural, also Hannibal. Being part of those fandoms was chaotic to say the very least. I am almost 25 now, but Our Flag Means Death has reignited the old “fangirl” in me. I love this show with all my heart and soul. I very much enjoyed season 2 and I came back to Tumblr SOLEY for this show and because Twitter has been a hellscape of people being extremely negative about it. I know so many love the second season just as they do the first, but the angry voices always scream louder than the kind ones. It’s exhausting. So I’ve come here to find like minded people. 

I have never felt that this show was insensitive, ableist, not supportive. The characters in this show have never been questioned for their identity, sexuality, or disability, they have always been embraced. Everything is normalized. There is not “the gay couple” they are just a couple. It feels wonderful to not have the things “different” about you, be pointed out. They are not seen as weird, abnormal, ANYTHING. I can’t remember the last time a show was ever like that. It’s so important. People saying Izzy had an arc, just for him to die, made it useless. That is honestly a disgusting take to me. Along with the people saying that they killed off a disabled character, and that makes them ableist. Are we forgetting the myriad of others with prosthetics or chronic pain? There are days I cannot physically walk by myself, I can’t get out of bed. I’ve had a knee replacement, two shoulder surgeries, a stomach surgery, because of my disability (Ehlers Danlos Syndrome). I did not, for once, feel like Izzy’s death was an act against physically disabled people. Just because I am disabled, does not mean I don’t deserve a “redemption arc”, it doesn’t mean me growing as a person is useless because I’ll just die someday. It hurts to see so many people turn on the show so quickly because they are upset with their favorite character dying or not getting more screen time. That does not mean you attack the cast, the crew, the show runners, the writers, the directors- ANYONE. Especially not others in this fandom. It’s often through tragedy and disagreements where we see people’s true colors. Being angry is okay, having a different opinion is okay too. But we don’t take it out on others who have ones differing from us, that is just not acceptable. When a character you love, is no longer on a show- for one reason or another- it can feel like losing a friend. A character you take comfort in, now being gone, is a loss of a different kind but can still cause real grief. People get angry. They can lash out. Just because you like something, or don’t like something, doesn’t mean it’s excusable to be angry or hostile with other people for having a different opinion. It’s valid to be upset but it’s not okay to cause someone else feel negatively about something they love. People are quick to take online to voice how they feel, it’s a readily available outlet to do so. When tensions are high, things get thrown around and people get hurt. Think before you speak, you can voice how you feel but do not shame others for feeling differently.

Calling Ed abusive, is another thing I’ve seen being thrown around. I really hate that. Not only as someone who has been in an abusive relationship before. Everyone in the crew has killed people, tortured people, done shitty things. They are pirates. That is not the point of the show, AT ALL. People are so upset that they are pulling any accusation they can, and throwing it at the wall until something sticks. 

The character I actually relate the most to is Ed. I have attempted to take my life. I have bipolar disorder, I rapidly cycle. I have been severely depressed, and extremely manic. That does not mean I am not worth loving, but it’s what I believed. I truly hated myself. I’ve hurt people. Done things I regret. It’s been a journey to find who I was, to heal and accept myself. I need reassurance from my friends, my partner, that I am enough sometimes. I hurt people before they have a chance to hurt me. I say and do things I regret. But my partner is ALWAYS there for me. He does not treat me as any less worthy. And that’s what Stede does for Ed. To think someone is only worth loving if they are “fixed” or that Ed is treating Stede as if he is “saving” him, is a bit of a concerning outlook. Saying they have no chemistry is borderline comical to me, as well. Have you SEEN the way they look at each other? They don’t even have to touch or say anything to be able to see how much love they share. 

Love is not without hardships or arguments. Relationships ebb and flow, they grow and they change. When you are separate people, living a life together, there is going to be messy bits. Just because we don’t see Stede and Ed talk everything through, doesn’t mean they don’t. So much time passes in between what we see, it can’t possibly all be shown. We fill in the gaps, we get things alluded to. It’s storytelling. Not everything needs to be spelled out. There is a planned ending for the show. Everyone involved loves making it and wants to continue the story. Saying all these negative things could really halt that process. There’s still plenty more to tell and to see. I think it’s important we get that season 3. Until then I will be continuously rewatching and hyper fixating!

Have you stopped to even maybe consider how straight trans people are a lot more likely to have community with who they’re attracted to. Gay trans do not. I’m sorry but this is soooo the opposite of everything I’ve seen and experienced in real life. Annoying people on tiktok are not the representatives of real life

If you'd told me to touch grass at any point during the time that I identified as trans I could've happily abided because I had plenty of it around me. Grass, cows, and farmland. A real life LGBT community, not so much. I was going to call your argument outdated given how intertwined the internet has become with real life but if anything the idea that everyone has access to an IRL LGBT community is extremely modern (and still not applicable to any of the dozens of people who live far away from major cities).

I don't think we should brush homophobes who are actively making the community unwelcoming to exclusively SSA people off as "annoying people on tiktok" when the online community is all some people have. And that's not about being a spoiled chronically online Youth who refuses to get off their phone and meet real people, even in the 90s a lot of LGBT people could only turn to online forums for acceptance and a sense of community.

But, for the record, I did end up finding an IRL community an hour away eventually and it absolutely wasn't better. It was a group that met once a month, usually only around 7 people showed up. The first time I went they were taking feedback on how the group was being run and a "trans lesbian" who had just aged out of the intended age bracket but didn't want to stop going jokingly complained that the group hadn't resulted in her having a wife and child yet. At that same meeting another trans woman complained that women were uncomfortable with her being in the women's changing room just because she had a penis. The person who ran the group was a pansexual woman who called herself a dyke (while being in a relationship with a man) and silenced my guilt of (at the time) feeling like I could only ever be happy with a woman by saying I may just meet a man I like. Online narratives on sexuality and perceived transphobia don't just stay online, they're created and absorbed by real people and those people go outside too. The group ended up shutting down because nobody wanted to run it anymore.

How does that work in your head? The community actively looks down on lesbian/ftm and gay/mtf relationships to the point even people who might be interested in them won't touch that dynamic with a 10 foot pole. Bisexuals are in the community and can date both groups.

Also most "gay trans men" I knew when I identified as trans defined their sexuality by gender identity rather than sex and they just dated each other lmao. That's super common among "trans lesbians" too. I don't get what point you're trying to make.
