A Reward: Mammon/Levi/Beel
Final Part of Special Bonus Content
In a few moments, the only people left in this imaginary room are myself and the first three demons I've made pacts with: Mammon, Levi, and Beel. I suppose the effects of the sleeping potion are finally starting to wear out, meaning that soon we'll all be awake and back in the real world.
But something tells me that these three will fight to remain here for as long as they can in order to complete their turn.
"I don't think there's going to be room for all of us on the bed," Beel observes.
"Couldn't we just magically make it bigger?" Mammon asks.
"Yes, except the people with that ability are no longer here," Levi responds, slightly irritated. I take that as my cue to hop off the bed and walk over to the three men.
After some discussion about how exactly we're going to do this, we end up sitting down on the floor. Mammon pulls me onto his lap and starts nipping at my neck, eliciting a quiet moan from me. Beel and Levi quickly position themselves on both sides and start touching whatever part of my body they can reach with their hands and mouths.
The three of them prove to be a deadly combination. When mixed together, their sins cause them to develop a sort of hive mind; their only goal is to ensure that I fall apart in their hands.
And it's working.
"Were you like this before us?" Levi whispers suddenly.
"Like what?" I respond, a bit confused by his question.
"Slutty," Beel bluntly answers. I shake my head.
"I'm a bit of a late bloomer," I explain. "Before the exchange program, I only ever kissed one guy. Didn't do anything else beyond that."
"You can't be serious." Mammon abruptly stops his attack on my neck. "You mean to tell me you were a virgin when we first met?!"
"Is there something wrong with that?" I ask. Realizing how harsh he sounded, Mammon quickly replies,
"No, of course not, MC! You're allowed to do whatever you want with your body, even if that means keeping it to yourself. I'm just a bit surprised, that's all."
"Because of my recent behavior?"
"Because of your soul," Beel states seriously, forcing me to look at him. "It makes the most physically gorgeous people look average in comparison. I get that humans aren't as sensitive to this sort of thing as angels and demons are, but I thought they could at least sense inner beauty."
"Maybe they did, but MC shut them out," Levi suggests. "I mean, I remember them not being too keen on getting dragged into our shenanigans when they first arrived in the Devildom. They just wanted to get through the exchange program, learn as much as they could, and go home."
"You're not wrong," I respond. "The more I got to know you guys, though, the more I wanted to take part of the action. I was no longer satisfied with merely watching from the sidelines. And, well..." I pause, taking a deep breath. "You're all really attractive."
"I knew you had good taste!" Mammon exclaims, causing me to giggle.
"You're certainly going to be spoiled for the rest of your life," Beel quips. "It's not like the average human is going to be able to top anything we're able to do." With that, the three of them resume their activities.
Unfortunately for me, everything becomes hazy, and soon I wake up on the floor of the home theater. I must have been the last one to return from the dream realm, for there's no one else in the room with me. The others are probably well into their day by now.
I get up and stretch out any kinks before exiting the room. I happen to catch my reflection in a mirror as I head to my room to change clothes, and I end up doing a double take.
My throat is completely covered in hickeys and bite marks. Ducking into the nearest bathroom, I undress myself and discover that they also litter my torso and inner thighs. There's even a couple on my butt.
At least I don't have to be anywhere today, because there is no way I could come up with a white lie to explain all of these marks.

Chapter 1
Fig was constantly checking their watch, knowing their mother would expect them home soon for dinner. Still, they weren’t quite ready to leave the scrapyard, as there were still so many marvelous finds to be had. Plus there weren’t that many risks, as the sentry that usually guarded this yard had switched over to the other one he was in charge of for the day. Still it was best to be cautious, because if they were caught it would be at least five years in jail. It was stupid, but that was the case with most laws.
Pulling something out of the rubble, Fig realized that they had discovered a whole robot. Their eyes started to widen a bit, they quickly stuffed it in their bag o’ junk as they called it, and started making their way to their hideout.
Fig had been walking for five minutes before the pin like pain in their legs became sharper. Pulling out their bag, they rummaged through it a bit, before pulling something that looked like a weird 3D cube out. Pressing a button a wonky, uneven, walker appeared, made out of mostly metal and each side was a bit uneven. However, the seat was made out of sanded down wood, as they didn't have leather to make it more comfortable yet. While it was still a work in progress, they used it when they could because it did make their life easier. Regretfully though, they couldn't use it often, as not even their family knew it existed, and Fig knew it would be an awkward conversation to have. So they had gotten used to using it on the tough forest terrain, still working on making it better to go over roots and other various obstacles.
Naking it to their hideout, Fig quickly looked over the robot; using the little magic they knew to look at any spots they couldn’t easily get to. They were looking for any alarms or trackers even though the sentries would’t notice nor think to track a discarded robot, because if Fig set off the alarm they would have to move their hideout again. Which was not ideal, especially with all the stuff this place held, and how long it had taken them to build it here.
Getting rid of the devices was easy enough, they would just go back to the junkyard and destroy them on their way home. The sentries would think that the rest of the scraps had destroyed the thing.
Sighing, Fig glazed longingly at their hideout, before they pressed a button and their walker became a cube again. They started heading back the way they came, putting on their gas mask, just in case the sentries spotted them on the way back. While they were part changeling and could therefore change some of their facial features, because they weren't a full changeling, they couldn't do much with it.
After disposing of the trackers, Fig went a bit away, taking off their gas mask and hid behind a tree to take a five minute walking break.
*************************
Fig ate silently as they listened to the chaos, that was their family, surround them. Getting back home had been a journey and a half without their walker, but it was important that they put it away for things, in order to stay safe. After all if the sentries found out about it, they would most certainly be screwed. Looking outside through a window, they realized it was sunset, and they couldn’t help but be amazed at how pretty it was, even though it came by every night. It was stunning, always changing, and yet its beauty never seemed to fade, and Fig was certain that they had the best sunsets in the kingdom. Jarolend, their friend that they talked to when they could, agreed.
Still, Fig wanted to explore, they wanted to see the world. But it wasn’t safe to, not since they’re a changeling. Changelings have been viewed as one of the worse races, since before the infamous war, however that war had just made things worse.
The official narrative was that, changelings, orcs, drow, goblins, and dragons rose up in opposition to the other races. That their greed and lust for money and power drove them to their demise, that they committed unspeakable crimes, that they were evil. And everyone was just supposed to accept that, even the races that this rhetoric effected.
However, Fig had been doing research of their own, looking through their ancestors’ journals to see what it was really like back then. They were grateful that their mother kept the journals, although they were slightly less grateful that these journals were on the top shelf of her bedroom. That made it harder for Fig to look through them, and they knew their mom didn't want them looking through the journals. But Fig had always been rather curious, and they just couldn't accept the narrative that they were bad. That they were here to take someone else's place and steal their livelihood, that they were evil like the textbooks said. It helped that the town was inhabited by other unprivliged races, it helped that the elders assured them when they were kids that it was the world that was wrong. But it sucked, the culture that was stripped from all of them, in fear that they would rise up, that they would revolt against unfair laws. So almost no one in town was allowed to practice magic. That didn’t stop Fig, though they practiced in secret. Still, they wished they were able to do more, and be more free. But they couldn’t, so in public they conformed to the rules set out for them. Have a set look, and don’t change it; hair stays the same, eyes stay the same, nails stay the same. Nothing changes. And they couldn’t help but feel that’s how society was anyways, stagnant, hopeless and resistant to change. And they hated it. But that’s what their tinkering was for, it was fun to do and a fuck you to the government. It wasn’t something that did something technically, but it felt good, especially when Fig felt helpless to do anything to change the world.
“-ig! Fig!” Their head snapped up to greet their mother’s voice.
“Yeah?”
“Are you okay honey? You’ve just been poking at your food all night.”
“Yeah mom, I'm alright, just wish I could visit Jarolend more often."
Fig hated lying, it always meant that it was just one more thing they couldn't share with their family. But if anyone knew that they were stealing from the scraps, well it wouldn't be pleasant if someone found out.
"I know. Maybe when you have your own money..."
"I've been trying to find someplace to work! But you know how hard it is!"
"I know, I know. Still, if you do manage to get the funds to visit your friend tell her I said hi!"
"I'll tell em."
Their mother might still be getting used to their friend’s new pronouns, as ey had come out close to when ey had left, but it still sucked that Fig had to be the one to correct her. That it felt like for all their mom’s trying, she never really got it. Despite being a changeling, and the concept of gender being fluid, that she thought the only options were girl and boy. Sometimes, it felt like while you could be either, you couldn’t be both at the same time or neither. Which isolated Fig even more as they were trying to figure themselves out. But they knew their mother didn’t mean to, and that she’s trying, so they tried not to hold it against her.
Still, they’d rather not have to correct their mother altogether, but it was how things went. So they started to eat a little bit, ignoring the looks from the rest of their family, and then went upstairs to their room, trying not to feel desperately hopeless at the state of everything. At least they’d have time to tinker and experiment with the robot tomorrow.

Week 10- Digital Detox Experiment
1. DIGITAL DETOX Experiment: Leave your phone at home for one hour to take a walk in your neighborhood. Write down your observations when you return and draw a map of your path. (This is a hand drawn map, not a screen shot of Google or Apple Maps.)
2. Afterwards, take a photo of your hand drawn map to include in your book review. What did you observe? Did you notice animals, trees, sounds and sights that you'd never seen before? Did the experience provide any revelations? Were you anxious, relieved, inspired?
To be completely honest, I do a one hour minimum walk EVERY SINGLE DAY to simply disconnect from the game of life and find space to breathe and be alone with my own thoughts... Getting to do this for an assignment was simply refreshing and natural. Because of my extensive walk history in my area (home away from home while I am working on an acting contract), I didn't necessarily see anything I hadn't seen before; I did however notice some beautiful birds (ducks, irises, and geese), a gorgeous sunset, and most importantly I noticed how at PEACE I felt.
2. What is your favorite quote from the book and why do you find it meaningful?
“Our very idea of productivity is premised on the idea of producing something new, whereas we do not tend to see maintenance and care as productive in the same way.”
This quote really resonates with me because as an artist this is truer than ever, in an economy where creation is the mere basis of not only our livelihood but "success". It isn't spoken about enough how productivity can look more internalized than what's usually expected.
3. Why do you think this book, released by indie publishing house Melville Press, became an unexpected bestseller during the height of the Covid19 pandemic? Her book was so successful, she recently released a second title, Saving Time: Discovering a Life Beyond the Clock.
During COVID times, society's idea of productivity kind of got turned on its side as people found themselves unable to go about their normal routines; the idea of comfort also became more individualized and niche because everyone was seemingly doing the same thing: everything but NOTHING. I think this book became an unexpected bestseller because honestly people definitely had more time to read as it is, but also I think there was a spiked interest in self-care and mental health during the pandemic. This was a time where people collectively were acknowledging how hard it can be to "spread yourself thin" especially in dire times.
4. How does the attention economy benefit from our social media activity and media streaming consumption?
The attention economy has a severe chokehold on people of all demographics simply because we now live in a world where not feeding into media consumption and social media algorithms is seen as abnormal. Because we are seemingly all so connected all over the world through social media platforms and applications, not only is the demand for content high but we can clearly see how life online can impact the real world in the form of "trends" which continue to feed into that exact economy.
5. How does this book relate to the topic of celebrity culture?
"CELEBRITY CULTURE is an essentially modern phenomenon that emerged amid such twentieth-century trends as urbanization and the rapid development of consumer culture. It was profoundly shaped by new technologies that make easily possible the mechanical reproduction of images and the extremely quick dissemination of images and information/News through such media as radio, cinema, television, and the Internet." -Encyclopedia.com
This book acknowledges that celebrity culture is inevitably growing, becoming wide spread and accepted.
6. Do you take digital detox breaks regularly? If yes, describe them. Were they more challenging during the quarantine era? Why?
I take one every single day, and they are my "escapes" even though in reality these moments end up being where I feel most present and comfortable with myself, so often times I just look at it as a necessity. I have to admit, during the quarantine era it was slightly more difficult to truly disconnect from the digital world when again, that was singlehandedly the way information was shared and seemingly all I COULD do was open my laptop or scroll on my phone for example.
7. Do you sleep with your phone or computer? Are you aware of the impacts on your sleep cycles and relaxation caused by 24/7 proximity? Have you experimented with leaving digital devices in a drawer or another room?
When I am on my own schedule I tend to fall asleep with my devices kind of carelessly to be honest. I have frequently fallen asleep with headphones on for example, connected to either my MacBook or my iPhone and haven't given much thought to it. It doesn't seem to affect my sleep cycle or relaxation as I actually have a form of codependency with music, leading to using electronics as my form of intaking as much music as possible. I could even argue I feel more at peace with my phone playing a random playlist vs. silence in the air. But I have experimented with leaving my digital devices say in the kitchen or something in a past relationship of mine... This habit lead to more one on one focused time with my partner which was the goal.
8. What does Odell mean by 'doing nothing?' Are we capable of doing nothing?
Odell defines "doing nothing" as avoiding the constant need to feed into the attention economy and instead focusing one's time and energy on what they need as an individual. I think it is extremely hard to convince certain types of people in this day and age to truly do "doing nothing" justice, as many many people actually revolve around consumer culture, so as a whole I am not sure if "we" are capable of doing nothing if that makes sense.
9. What is the role of nature in Odell's book, in particular the role of birds? (P.S. Did you know that birdwatching became a HUGE pastime in the Covid era?)
Odell genuinely shares the same appreciation and love for nature as I do as a human being. She and I see beauty in the simplest of forms such as grass, trees, bodies of water; And we both see birds as symbols of freedom and easygoing.

professor reid | s.r
summary: in which attending psychology became the best decision she ever made.
requested?: yes! By anon!
request: “Hey, could I maybe request a spencer reid x reader with a reader who is going into physics but is forced to take a psychology class bc of some stupid college requirement. The reader hates social sciences so by default doesn’t like the professor (spencer ofc) until she starts to get to know him through his lectures. Maybe she slowly starts to fall for him, and after she finishes the class at the end of the year she asks him on a date to a museum or smth science related. If you aren’t comfy with this request or aren’t inspired please feel free to trash it. By loves, have a nice day/night!”
pairing: spencer reid x fem!reader
category: fluff
content warnings: age gap (reader is 22, spencer is 34)
word count: 1.5k
When the dean of Marbury University told Y/N that she had to take a mandatory psychology class if she had wanted to graduate, she just nodded. If the dean knew her like her friends did, you’d know she despised psychology with everything she had. Well, in reality, every social science, really. Philosophy, Economics, Business, you name it, she hated it.
That was until him.
She remembers the day she met him and so did he, thanks to that eidetic memory of his. Y/N had been told by the dean in the early fall morning that she had read her transcript, noticing the missing credit, saying that she had needed to complete the class, or else she was in danger of not graduating in the spring.
Y/N couldn’t let one silly little class deter her from all the hard work she had accomplished over the 4 years in university. So, later that day, she had walked into her Psychology lecture, head held high, until she saw him. Then, her head ducked down, eyes wandering between the floor and the view she had discovered prior to staring at the carpeted floor.
There he was, in all of his glory.
He had worn a white button up shirt, a navy blue satin looking vest over that, and over the vest, a black blazer. His sandy hair curled naturally just as beautiful as he was. Y/N had found her seat in the front of the class, eyes locked on him the entire time.
“Hello, I’ll be your professor, Dr. Reid. Before we begin, I’d like to learn your names, as well as tell you a bit about myself.” The class one by one began to say their names, and Y/N took a deep breath. Thinking back, there was nothing to be nervous about. Why should saying her own name be this terrifying.
“Miss?”
Y/N snapped out of her thoughts, meeting his light hazel eyes. “Y/N. Y/N L/N.” Since that day, she had found out many things about her professor. She studied him as well. His mannerisms, the way he’d talk with his hands, then awkwardly shove them into his pockets when a joke he thought was funny didn’t land with the class. But, they did with her. Sure, she didn’t know what most of it meant, but just seeing the smile appear on his face, the twinkle in his eyes when she let out a small giggle, that’s what did it for her.
Y/N learned that he was a profiler at the FBI’s most talented division, the BAU. She learned that he had an IQ of 187, he could read 20,000 words per minute, and that he had an eidetic memory, meaning he couldn’t forget anything he saw or heard, even if he wanted to.
In that moment, she wished she had an eidetic memory. Just to remember every smile she got from him throughout each lesson. She’d have it sewn, or even tattooed on the back of her eyelids if it means she could experience Spencer Reid in all his glory, looking at her, smiling at her.
Months went by, and Y/N could help but fall for her professor more and more as she experienced him, saw him, got to know him. She was royally screwed, she had thought, at least until graduation.
Thirty days.
Thirty days until graduation, and she couldn’t have been more excited. Thirty days and she wouldn’t feel any more guilty than she already did about her feelings towards her professor. Just thirty days and she didn’t have to say, “Good morning, Dr. Reid.” or “Bye, Dr. Reid, have a good day” as she came and went from his lectures.
The last week of school had rolled around, no one more excited than her for graduation. Y/N walked into the lecture five minutes early today. “Good morning, Dr. Reid.” Her lips spoke naturally, not thinking about the words that fell from her lips. Her eyes caught on to a group of people behind his desk, who she recognized from his stories as his team from the BAU.
Spencer looked up from the conversation he was having with a light-skinned man. “Good morning, Miss. L/N. Could I see you in my office after class?” This sparked a fire in her heart. What could he possibly want? “Of course, professor.” She gave him a genuine, tight-lipped smile, noting in her head the glances his coworkers were giving her.
Spencer’s lecture had usually went on for an hour and fifteen minutes, not that Y/N was counting. So, at 11:15, when lecture ended, her legs carried her towards his office. Her knuckles knocking softly against the light wooden door. “Come in.” The voice she dreamed of often called out to her.
“You wanted to see me, professor?”
She looked to him and then down on his desk. Her final report lay on the desk. “Yes, I did. I was just grading the final term papers. I wanted to speak with you about yours. Have a seat, please.” Y/N sat across from him, looking up at him. “I just want to start off by saying your paper was brilliant. I mean, you nailed the topic effortlessly. I’m technically not supposed to speak with other students, but you’re the only one that got a score as high as you did.”
This made her smile, knowing he could see her intelligence and full potential.
“That means a lot, professor. Truly. I slaved away at that paper, wanting it to be perfect.” She let out a small laugh, making him smile. Spencer continued to talk about her paper with her for another ten minutes before dismissing her. Y/N stood to her feet and turned to him as she went to exit. “Goodbye, Dr. Reid. Have a good day.”
Just like clockwork.
Graduation day had finally came. She had done it. Y/N stood with her class, and when the dean announced it was time, she threw her cap up in the air with the rest of her class. I did it. She thought about this day coming for 4 years, and it was finally here.
Her parents had decided to wait for her in the car as she said there was one final thing she had to do. Y/N searched and searched and she found what she was looking for. “Dr. Reid.” She called out to him. Spencer looked up, taking notice of the girl. There he stood, once again with his coworkers.
“Miss L/N, hello. Congratulations.”
Y/N couldn’t help but break into a wide smile. “Oh! Thank you. That’s why I wanted to speak with you, actually. I just wanted to say thank you. If I’m honest, I’m not the biggest fan of social sciences, but you truly made the topic interesting. I’ve learned a lot from you this year.” Spencer smiled right back at her, making her smile even wider.
“Well, thank you, Miss L/N, that means a lot to me. I love teaching, so knowing someone actually took in what I taught them is really inspiring to me.”
Y/N took a deep breath before speaking again. “Thank you again, Dr. Reid, really.” Spencer looked to her. “Spencer.” She gave him a puzzled look. “You’re no longer my student, so please just call me Spencer.”
“Oh! Well, okay, Spencer.”
His name on her lips never sounded so pleasant. The way she said it just rolling off of her tongue effortlessly. “Um, actually, I wanted to talk to you about something. This Saturday, at the planetarium, there’s going to be a space and light show, along with a few presentations. I, um..” She looked down at her feet, remembering his coworkers were also there. “I was wondering if you, maybe, wanted to come with me?” If only she was looking up. She could see the shocked expression on Spencer’s face, and the smirks his FBI coworkers were giving him.
She could’ve seen the nudge one of them was giving him.
“That sounds very interesting. I’ll pick you up Saturday?” Y/N’s eyes snapped back up to him, not expecting the words that just left his perfect lips. She nods, smiling wide. “Sure, I’ll email you my address?” One of his coworkers, a woman with blonde hair laughs. “Oh, honey, he’s got a phone. You can give him your number.”
Y/N was handed a pen by one of his coworkers and she smiled. Spencer extended his arm out to her. She was gentle with him, rolling up the sleeve of his button-up. His skin felt soft under her touch and she bit her lip to hide her smile. Y/N took her time, gently writing her phone number onto his skin.
“See you this Saturday, Spencer. I’ve got to go meet my parents. They’re taking me to dinner.”
She waved to the group before breaking in a small jog towards where she remembered her parents were parked. Rossi looked towards Spencer. “So, that’s the girl you’ve been telling us about? Who would’ve known..”
Derek nudged Spencer now that Y/N was out of their line of view. “I can see why you like her. She was pretty.” Derek didn’t have to tell him that. Spencer had known the girl was pretty since the day she walked into his lecture. His thoughts never derailed from how pretty she was.
“She is. She really is.”

ft. penny clearwater
who cursed the bludger?
y/n was currently draped lazily over her broomstick, haven given up trying to teach penelope clearwater how to fly. said prefect was on the grass, smirking as y/n embarrassedly looked around.
"penny that's not ok to ask!"
"fine, fine," she pondered for a moment, "hey, what's up with you and fred weasley, huh?"
"nothing at all," y/n answered a little too quick for penny's liking.
"c'mon, y/n, you're younger than me, i should know all that happens. you two are very...flirty."
"yeah well, my dear pennysylvania, we have flirty personalities. duh."
"no, you don't."
"okay, i don't. he does."
"but he seems like he means it."
"of course he means it? he says it in a joking way? y'know, he means it as a joke."
"hmm, nope, i don't think so, y/n. he's looking your way right now."
"i'm probably blocking the space, let's move outta the way."
"you're not gonna play with them?"
"already play in matches, why now? let's chat."
fred was silently eavesdropping on their conversation as he heard his name.
"sooo you and perceeee??" y/n dragged out, grinning as she did loop-do-loops with her broomstick.
penny blushed, but looked disappointed, "he likes oliver."
"oh. well, f percy, what about marcus??"
"he's just marcus. we're best friends, y/n."
"my fav trope of romance is best friends to lovers," y/n wiggled her eyebrows suggestively and penny shook her head in amusement.
"my one is the opposites attract."
"hmm yeah, that's a good one too, it's really cute! say, aren't you and mar-"
"i was meaning you!"
"huh?"
"you and fred."
fred smirked as he listened, flicking back the bludger harshly at angelina.
"oh yes because we are totally meant for each other," y/n sarcastically replied.
"what's that supposed to mean?"
"yes."
"you're doing this on purpose!"
"hmm? what?"
"oh my goodness, merlin you're stupid bro!" penny said exasperatedly.
"and you just realised. congrats, penny."
"anyway, what i'm saying is you and fred are rather like opposites. although he's extroverted and you're extroverted, you're a cute little nerd," y/n huffed at this 'i am n o t a nerd for the last time!' "and he's a class clown in the most charming way. you like reading and he likes pranking people and quidditch. you're a goody two shoes, an adorable one, but he's this foolish jock," penny looked proud with her argument so y/n laughed, "you're modest and he's very confident. and you're both hot."
y/n smiled, "i am not hot!" she giggled, "that's stupid."
"oi, ange!" penny called to angelina who looked over at her in amusement.
"yeah?"
"is y/n hot?"
"oh, totally!" angelina casually threw the quaffle into the hoop, "10/10."
"guyyys you flatTer me," y/n stretched out as the three of them laughed, "i'm bLushIng."
"you actually are," angie quipped.
"it's a command thing. if she wants to blush, she'll blush," replied penny.
they burst into giggles again.
fred watched y/n. a rosy pink, sure enough, had spread across her cheeks. that was enough to get her blushing?
"oi, l/n!"
y/n's head snapped his way, her eyes narrowed as if expecting an insult being thrown her way.
"your lips are pretty!"
her form relaxed, "thanks! yours are too!!"
penny giggled as angie rolled around laughing.
"what?" y/n looked around.
"the way you return flirting is hilarious."
"a compliment for a compliment, isn't that what they say?"
angelina snorted, "no one says that."
"oh well i say it, so deal with it."
"hey, i have an idea!" penny brightened up.
"let's hear it!"
"let's teach y/n pick up lines, ange!"
"oh you're a genius, penny!"
"okay, so-"
a bludger came whizzing at y/n as she screamed, trying frantically to dodge it. it hit her hand and a crack was heard.
luckily she immediately hopped off calmly, taking out her wand shakily and stunning the bludger, before penny and angie helped her over to the hospital ward, fred lagging guiltily behind.
she was ordered to stay in bed rest and with drowsy eyes she drifted off.
fred watched her feeling so terrible as he saw her heavily bandaged hand, imagining how he was going to tell her that he was in fact the one that had charmed it.
the next day, she was out and about, gently cradling her hand which was broken.
"um, hey, y/n," he nervously approached her.
"oh, hello!"
"i might have jinxed the bludger to go wild," he confessed abruptly, "i'm really sorry i didn't mean to-"
"no, it's fine, really." she gave him a reassuring smile and walked off.
he noticed that she couldn't write in class. usually she was scribbling away, but she just sat awkwardly at her desk, trying frantically to get anything legible down with her non-dominant hand. the fact she was so courteous and forgiving about everything just made it worse.
by now, y/n was dying inside. she couldn't write notes, and even though she wanted to ask any willing person for a duplicate of their notes, she'd have to explain the whole broken hand thing.
"ange?"
"yep?"
"do you have history of magic notes?" y/n did puppy eyes.
"nope, you forgot i dropped out."
"oh."
"do you want mine?" fred asked, smirking as he looked y/n up and down.
"you take notes?!!!" y/n was shook.
"only for you, 'cause i felt bad."
"you didn't need to!"
"i did. you want them?"
"yes please, thank you so much, you're a lifesaver!!"
"you're acting like you're not the one the bludger hit," angie quipped and y/n frowned, completely forgetting fred was still there, browsing the notes.
"c'mon, it was just an accident. and i've always wanted to be ambidextrous."
"lovely, you were struggling. i'll take all your notes. my handwriting isn't neat but i owe you."
y/n ducked to hide the light blush she could not control at all.
immediately she got a confused look from fred.
and instantly she thought of something that might make the blush go away. he didn't mean it, it slipped out, she thought and she felt her face cooling down, a slight frown appearing on her face.
"o-okay, thanks fred."
"no problems, darling," he flirted.
"that's good, darling," she flirted graciously back, bravely tilting her head up and looking him in the eye.
he took it well.
"where did you learn how to flirt so well, my little love??"
"why, freddie," she joked flirtatiously, "from you of course!"
he coughed and excused himself.
"he should really be careful with who he's flirting mindlessly with," y/n rolled her eyes.
angelina laughed, "flirting mindlessly? do you see the way he looks at you?"
"personality," y/n stated simply.
"or not."
true to his word, notes in fred's flurry of handwriting appeared neatly stacked every day. they were far too thorough and consisted of stupid flirty notes by the side. sometimes a little note, written in class, was jammed in there probably by accident:
hello freddie!
i have a crush on you 0-o, hogsmeade at 7pm on sunday?
-jamie <3, boy who sits in front of you in arithmancy
jamie,
i already have my eye on someone :) not you, sorry, y/n cringed at the bluntness of his words
you are very nice, perhaps try trera rivera if you swing that way? or illinois ann if you swing all ways?
oh i'm so sorry, i didn't know that! i'll talk to both. was the gracious answer
-jamie
and again! the lucky boy! this time from a girl.
weasley-
i know we hate each other but give me a chance to explain myself? broom closet at 9 tomorrow ? it trailed off to something that y/n didn't even want to think about.
k.o
fuck off. i don't fucking like you, i like someone else, ffs.
was the reply as y/n laughed and made sure to give the note back to fred.
it wasn't everyday someone confessed to you, right?
she underlined all the words that simply weren't legible to ask fred about.
and aNOTHER ONE?? how did this boy have so many admirers? y/n had received 0 love letters from any boy, let alone people of the same gender. you knew you were good with the ladies (and the gentlemen) when everyone sent you these letters.
dearest frederick-
it droned quite sweetly on about him and loving him and the writing was really magnificent.
margaret perrer
hi marg
i'm really really sorry. you seem like such a nice person, and it's not you, it's me. i, however, have a friend who really adores you: kenneth. he'll be an amazing friend and maybe more.
i also already am interested in another girl, so it really isn't you. thank you for your beautiful letter, hopefully we can be friends!
fred
oh he was very nice. feeling like she had overstepped the boundaries, she put them aside, discovering more and more but putting them all in a stack. she felt slightly insecure, especially when they all looked relatively neW?? the perfume on the flowers still smelled fresh?? who was this guy?
she sighed, finishing her read through and being thoroughly impressed with the sheer quality of the notes.
but there were around 100 words she had underlined. she skipped down into the great hall where she spotted two gingers. as soon as one (she couldn't see which one) saw her, he got up, whispered to the other something, and left.
when she approached the one that was left behind, she saw it was george.
"hi georgie!" she greeted him and thrust the papers into his hand, "where's fred?"
george shrugs, "left, for a date or something."
"oh, okay, could you translate these for me, the underlined words?" if y/n was disappointed, she didn't show it.
"oh yeah, sure, his handwriting's rubbish, isn't it."
"yes it is, i can barely read half of it."
george finished scribbling words next to the underlined ones.
"oh! and give these back to him? i'm pretty sure he dropped them in, probably got mixed up." she gave him the pile of letters, now neatly bundled in rope she had found.
"oh, yeah sure," george smirked, "of course."
"nice, well that's it, thanks for the help!"
"anything else?"
"tell fred good luck."
"right, right, mhm."
"yea."
once she'd left, george took out his walkie talkie.
"got that, freddie?"
"crystal clear."
"you're pining, pffft, hahahahah," george smirked as fred sighed.
"it didn't even work?"
"which plan?"
"the one to drop the letters in."
"i'm pretty sure she read like two, she didn't seem that disappointed?"
"exactly."
"you're an idiot. just tell her."
"but that's boringggg."
"well drop the hints then, merlin fred you're terrible at this."
"i haven't dated a billion girls like you!"
"then learn how to date my goodness."
"true."
"come fucking back."
"hickies or no?"
"eh go for it. i wanna see her reaction and then we can decide whether she likes you or not."
fred strided handsomely in, neck littered with little hickies and his top had two buttons open, freckles and pale broad shoulders showing.
george rolled his eyes, muttering, "drama queen," as he subtlely watched y/n. she managed not to look so surprised, her eyes widening then looking down quickly at her hands.
he would have thought she felt nothing for his twin if a light pink had not dusted over her face and if angie had not nudged her with a concerned look on her face.
y/n was wondering what the hell happened, disappointment rising slowly in her.
"okay, she's into you," george whispered as fred began removing the spell, leaving the unbuttoned shirt unbuttoned.
"cool beans."
"oh and she gives these back," george smirked.
"oh look at how she bundled it! so adorable georgie!"
"you're disgusting."
y/n hurried to the library at 6pm. she had heard the book she had waited for was finally available.
as she settled down with it, a paper aeroplane hit her.
"ahh!" she screamed as she caught it.
it read:
forbidden forest, 8pm.
huh? was this meant for her? it was in neat handwriting and on the smoothest parchment, with a single flower that smelt like fresh rain.

Modern Fish Selkie Au
I had an au idea after I finished dtppf that probably won’t become a full fic. But since there’s so little fish danmei content out there, I thought I should share. Part 1 of ?
Li Yu is newly 18 year old mermaid on his first trip on land. When he leaves his mer form, his scales and tail dissolve and turn into a pearl. The pearl contains his sea magic, that allows him to return to the ocean and become a mermaid again. If a human has his pearl, they can control him. Giving someone your pearl is a sign of love and trust. His time among humans on land is a sort of coming of age, practiced by his clan.
Mu Tianchi is one of many sons of a successful CEO. He’s bored with his job and life in general. The only person he has any sort of relationship with is his personal assistant and sign language interpreter Wang Xi. He’s powerful, cold, and beautiful.
Mu Tianchi is on his way to work when he bumps into Li Yu, who is wandering slowly down the sidewalk, staring at everything. Like a total tourist, blocking the walkway. Wang Xi scolds him for not watching when he’s going, but Mu Tianchi has already moved on.
The next day, Mu Tianchi sees Li Yu again, this time crouched near the ground, looking for something. He gets pushed into the street by the crowd and Mu Tianchi picks him up and out of the way of oncoming traffic.
In frustration, Mu Tianchi signs, “Watch where you’re going!” even though he knows this absent minded person probably won’t be able to understand.
To his surprise, Li Yu replies excitedly in sign, “You can sign?”
Mu Tianchi is annoyed and that this person he’s just saved from being run over is not concerned about almost being run over.
Li Yu is already signing “I didn’t know anyone else could understand me!”
Sign language is how Li Yu’s people communicate when singing/echolocation doesn’t suffice. They can weave magic into their song, but talking doesn’t travel well underwater. Maybe the merpeople picked up sign from the land, or humans picked it up from the sea. But Li Yu wasn’t expecting to see anyone who could on his first foray on land.
Wang Xi comes over and fusses over Mu Tianchi, telling off Li Yu. They get introduced, but Mu Tianchi brushes him off and finishes his walk to work. He feels annoyed but also intrigued.
Later that day, when walking home, Mu Tianchi finds a necklace on the ground. It has a fine silver chain, with a pearl pendant hanging from it. There’s something warm and entrancing about the pearl, it’s more luminescent than anything he’s ever seen. He pockets it, takes it home, and puts in on his bedside, where it stays.
Over the next few weeks Mu Tianchi keeps running across Li Yu in various parts of his commutes. He seems lost and aimless, but always waves hi when he sees Mu Tianchi. The curiosity gets to him, so Mu Tianchi assigns Wang Xi to find out more information on Li Yu.
They discover he lives in a small beach front cottage and spends all day wandering the city, spending a particular amount of time at the park that Mu Tianchi passes on his way to work. The private investigators can’t find any legal records for someone named Li Yu.
Mu Tianchi suspects Li Yu is in some sort of trouble. For the first time in his life, he’s taken an interest in someone. And he wants to know more.
Mu Tianchi has his personal chef make two lunches. On his way to work, he gets coffee, which he never drinks. He looks out for Li Yu, crossing the street when he sees him.
He hands over the coffee, signing “For you.”
Li Yu looks surprised but takes it. He doesn’t care much for the coffee when he takes a sip, which Mu Tianchi takes note of. He doesn’t stand around longer than that, letting Wang Xi say goodbye for him.
At lunch, for the first time, he leaves the office. He takes his two lunch boxes and goes where Li Yu has seen to be the most, at the park near the fountain. There Li Yu is, watching the ducks. He startles when Mu Tianchi approaches, but greets him happily.
Once again, Mu Tianchi hands over the food and takes a seat next to him. Li Yu is pleasantly confused, but accepts. They eat in peace, Mu Tianchi taking care to notice what he eats and what he pushes around with his fork.
This routine continues. Mu Tianchi learns that Li Yu has a sweet tooth and enjoys seafood. He has his nutritionist make a meal plan around his tastes and has lunch made for him everyday. After the 3rd day, Li Yu stops trying to tell Mu Tianchi he doesn’t need to bring him food.
They talk. Or, well, Li Yu talks.
Mu Tianchi learns he’s not from around here, is new to city life, all of which Mu Tianchi had already suspected. He’s always lived near the ocean though, feels connected with it. He isn’t particularly close to his family, and is away from home for the first time.
Li Yu is surprised when Mu Tianchi opens up in return. Li Yu has shared everything he could without straight up telling him what he is. But he likes these lunches with Mu Tianchi. He felt alone and scared in his first time on land. Especially after he lost his pearl. He can’t return to the sea without it. He’s trapped in a foriegn, unfriendly world, and he doesn’t know what to do.
But Li Yu is finding that this cold, beautiful, man has some kindness in him. He’s glad the two of them are friends. It’s been a relief among all the worries.
Li Yu suspects that Mu Tianchi has his pearl, or has been near it. There’s some traces of sea magic around him. But that could just be from spending time with Li Yu. There’s no way for him to ask Mu Tianchi if he’s seen his pearl though. If someone has taken it, they have to give it back voluntarily.
Wang Xi is beyond pleased every time Mu Tianchi takes a long lunch. He’s been his interpreter and assistant since he was a child. He’s never been close with anyone in that time. And now he has an interest in someone. Someone that he doesn’t even need Wang Xi to talk to.
Mu Tianchi didn’t realize how much he had missed being able to communicate directly to someone, without Wang Xi in the middle. Li Yu has become the person he’s closest to. He starts to tell him things he’s not told anyone else. How he’s not interested in becoming his father’s successor, that he’s not close to any of his family. How everyday was the same thing, with no deviation, until Li Yu.
Li Yu blushes when he tells him that.
Mu Tianchi recognizes that he’s attracted to Li Yu. He’s a pretty little thing, young and sweet, though absent minded and clumsy. Often he seems naive, and then others prove that he can be clever.
Mu Tianchi thinks he might be starting to have feelings for him. He thinks that maybe Li Yu is attracted to him to.

NCT DREAM AS WIZARDS: DONGHYUCK AND JISUNG
a/n: this has been in my drafts for literally 3 years and since i don't think i'll finish it i figure i should post it anyways. hope u like it! happy halloween! 🧙🏼
DONGHYUCK
A little further away from the others, Donghyuck lives near the sea, where he draws the majority of his powers from. Contrary to popular tales of malevolent sea wizards, Donghyuck prides himself in being a good member of his community, making friends with the new fishermen that come to town and casting little spells to make sure they catch enough fish, and even looking after the neighborhood kids when no one else can, keeping them distracted and entertained for the afternoon by making the waters dance around them. Donghyuck likes to spend his free time taking walks on the water and swimming with his sea friends.
His favorite spells are cast mostly when he needs to relax; watching the sea waters turn every color from purple and pink to orange and yellow and observing as the sand moves in unison to build beautiful sandcastles by itself surely brings peace to his heart.
Donghyuck had never given much thought to familiars; he already had his friends under the sea and the friendship of the mortals; there was not much more he could imagine needing. But after he was approached by a different looking duck one day, he reconsidered his stance on practicing his magic alone. Since then, communicating with Duckie has been an essential part of his craft, guaranteeing him protection and guidance in his path.
His array of special items is bigger than most. He's got a brown and white seashell he uses to feel closer to the waters and communicate with them, and a few other smaller seashells he made a necklace with, for protection and prosperity. His collection of crystals is also notable; he uses them mostly for healing and reading, and sometimes charging them and making necklaces or bracelets for him and his friends to wear. His favorites are the moss agate and the moonstone. And lastly, but certainly not least, his favorite item of all is the trusty set of mauve tarot cards he got on a trip with friends.
JISUNG
Always sought when the rest of the boys have problems they can't solve themselves, Jisung has wisdom and talent way beyond his years. A master of both the astral arts and spirit works at only 19, Jisung distances himself from any sects, organized religions or covens, no matter how much they try to get his talents on their side. His craft has been passed down for generations, hence why he has studied his magic and forged his path since he was a little kid. Jisung specializes in mind-powered magic, such as lucid dreaming, vision work and, his favorite, astral projection. More often than not, he likes to escape reality in his own little way for a bit through the wonders of deep meditation.
Despite knowing a fair share of the most difficult mind spells, his favorite still remains a fairly simple one. While lying down on his bed, listening to his favorite music, he likes to see all the different pretty colors that come from the sounds dance on the ceiling. He feels at ease.
Jisung's family isn't that traditional, but they do hold some customs from their ancestors. That's why Jisung does not have a companion yet; but he's counting the days to his 21st birthday, when he'll meet the phoenix spirit that was promised to him the day he was born.
Black, leather bound, heavy and older than anyone can remember, Jisung's favorite item is very simple: his family's spell book. He remembers the day when he was granted permission to read the book's content for the first time, a day after his 10th birthday. To this day, hundreds of spells later and a lot more to be discovered, it remains his favorite artifact.

Wannabe
Summary: The Sixth Year Gryffindor boys discover the Spice Girls, but Harry only wants to be Ginny’s lover.
Yes, you read that right. This fluffy, kind-of-crack HBP missing moment was born from a conversation in the Hinny Discord (and my 90s tween years).
Content warning: If you aren’t into wank jokes, teenage boys shamelessly ogling pop icons, unfiltered Ron, and don’t agree that Sporty was the least attractive Spice Girl (apologies, Mel C), then this may not be the fic for you ;)
Since historical accuracy is paramount to this story (sarcasm), the magazine referenced in the fic is the March 1997 issue of The Face. Google it if you want to see the cover and photos (you know you want to).
Thank you @thedistantdusk, beta supreme, for editing and always encouraging my ridiculousness ;) Happy Thursday!
Read it below the cut, or on Ao3.
Harry flopped onto his bed, tired but pleased with how well the team was flying. At this rate, they’d have a fighting chance to win the cup against Ravenclaw, especially now that Katie was back. It’d been their best practice yet, although he’d been repeatedly distracted by Ginny, laughing at her antics, admiring the way her eyes blazed with determination just before she scored a goal, trying not to stare at her arse as she bent low over her broomstick.
“What’s that?” Ron said, jolting Harry from his thoughts.
Ron looked across the dormitory at Seamus, who sat on his bed staring intently at a magazine with Dean looking over his shoulder.
“See for yourself, mate.” Seamus smirked, holding up the magazine to reveal the cover, a Muggle photograph of five girls, all scantily clad in lingerie and extremely fit.
Harry sat up immediately for a better look. Even Neville, from his bed next to Harry’s, had his eyes glued to the cover.
Ron let out a low whistle. “Where’d you get that?” he asked, clamoring across the room to stand next to Seamus for a better look.
“Took it from my little sister over Easter hols and brought it back for Seamus,” Dean said, grinning. “Thought he’d appreciate it.”
“What’s your little sister doing with something like this?”
“Not what you’ll be doing with it later, that’s for sure,” Seamus said, making a rude hand gesture. Ron flipped him off as the rest of them laughed.
“They’re the Spice Girls,” Dean explained. “A Muggle singing group. All the girls are obsessed with them right now. Girl Power, you know?”
Harry didn’t know, but he decided he would very much like to find out as he walked over for a closer look.
“Fuck, they’re fit,” Ron said, looking over Seamus’ shoulder at the cover of the magazine.
Harry had to agree. There was a perky, smiling blonde, two brunettes in the middle with dark, shiny hair and sultry gazes, a redhead with great tits next to them, and a pretty girl with wild curls and tanned skin posed seated at their feet.
“And this is just the cover, wait ‘til you see the photos inside.” Seamus said, waggling an eyebrow.
“They’re everywhere right now- can’t turn on the radio without hearing their songs- they’re all over the telly too,” Dean said, as the rest of them continued to stare at the cover. “They go by nicknames, and the girls all have favorites.”
Dean pointed to the blonde. “This one’s Baby, there’s Sporty on her other side. The redhead is Ginger-“
“Original, that one,” Harry said dryly, and the others laughed.
Dean continued as the laughter subsided. “The one next to her with that stuck up look is Posh, and the one sitting down is Scary- she’s my sister’s favorite. I’m with her on that one.” He finished with a wink.
“Reckon Scary’s my favorite too,” Seamus said, his tone thick with bravado.
“No way,” Ron said, indignant, “that Posh one, she’s the fittest. Look at her legs.”
“Nah, she’s a bit too high and mighty. She looks like she’d always be telling you what to do,” Dean said.
“Just Ron’s type then,” Seamus quipped.
Dean and Seamus roared with laughter. Out of loyalty, Harry tried (but failed) to suppress his own laughter, his shoulders shaking with mirth.
“Oh, fuck off,” Ron replied, the tips of his ears red.
“What’s The Chosen One’s choice?” Seamus asked, turning to Harry.
Harry rolled his eyes. “I’d go with Ginger.”
“Oooooh, Harry picks the redhead,” Seamus said, eyebrow raised, exchanging a pointed look with Dean.
“Got a thing for gingers, do you then?”
Shit. Panic that his casual admission might reveal his most private, fiercely-guarded feelings about Ginny began to overtake him.
“Didn’t pick her for her hair color, mate,” Harry retorted, trying to sound flippant, as he gestured to her tits.
Seamus laughed and slapped Harry’s shoulder. Harry breathed a small sigh of relief, hoping that he hadn’t just made the fact that he fancied Ginny completely obvious. In truth, the girl did remind him a bit of Ginny- not just her hair color, but her build too, and something about the way she carried herself in the photo. He tried not to blush, though heat rushed to his cheeks. He stole a glance at Ron who, thankfully, was still gaping at the magazine and not paying attention to the exchange.
“What’s your vote, then, Nev?” Seamus asked.
Neville, standing next to Harry, his cheeks already pink, looked startled to be included. “Erm, she looks nice,” he said softly, motioning towards the blonde, “but they’re all good looking, really,” he added, his round face now flaming scarlet.
“Nobody for Sporty then?” Dean asked, laughing.
“Nah, who's picking Sporty over any of those four?” Ron said bluntly. “Let’s see what’s inside, then.”
The photo spread inside the magazine did not disappoint, Harry thought, taking in the individual, full body photos of each girl in very suggestive poses.
“Damn,” Ron said appreciatively.
“Told you it was good.”
The dormitory grew quiet for a moment as Seamus flipped through the pages.
“Wait,” said Ron, pointing to a line in the article, “This says the lyrics to their hit song are ‘If you wannabe my lover, you gotta get with my friends.’ Really?”
“Are you actually reading the article, mate? That’s impressive,” Harry said wryly.
“It’s true- heard it a million times over Easter break, that bloody song’s on the radio every other minute,” Dean replied.
“Well, it’s fucking terrible advice. What girl wants you getting with her friends?” Ron said.
Suddenly, there was a knock at the door.
“Ron,” a voice called. Harry realized instantly that it was Ginny.
Fuck. Seamus shoved the magazine under the duvet as the rest of them scrambled to disperse, Neville tripping over his own feet, Ron hitting his head on the top of the bedpost as he ducked to sit on his bed.
“Come in,” Ron called.
Ginny opened the door and leaned on the side of the doorframe. She looked unfairly beautiful, Harry thought, her cheeks still rosy from practice, her long hair loose and flowing down her back, ending just above the swell of her arse, which looked fantastic in her tight joggers.
Her eyes narrowed as she took in the scene. The five of them had each ended up on their respective beds, fully dressed, shoes and all, with no books or parchment in sight. It must’ve looked strange.
She quirked an eyebrow. “You five having a cosy little chat?”
Neville chuckled nervously. Seamus coughed. Ron’s ears turned red. Dean stared at the duvet, determined to avoid her gaze, probably for a variety of reasons, Harry thought.
Ginny shook her head slightly. “Never mind, I’m sure I don’t even want to know,” she said, grinning at Harry. His cheeks grew warm, and he gave a slight shrug back.
She turned to Ron, her tone more serious. “Hermione asked me to get you. The Second Years were playing Exploding Snap at a table in the common room, and the explosion blew up some inkwells. There’s ink all over everything. She needs your help cleaning off the boys. Euan Abercrombie’s covered head to toe in it.”
“Little idiots,” Ron said, rolling his eyes. He stood and walked past Ginny onto the spiral staircase.
“Great practice, Harry,” Ginny said. She beamed at him, her smile brilliant, and in that moment, he wished, more than anything, that they were alone in the dormitory, instead of awkwardly surrounded by her (very recent) ex, Seamus, and Neville.
“You too. We’re going to flatten them,” he managed, hoping he didn’t sound like his breath was caught in his throat, which it was.
She just winked back. His heart, already fluttering faster than the wings of a snitch, skipped a beat. “Night all,” she said, with a wave to Neville.
As she closed the door, Harry sank back onto his pillows, thinking only of Ginny, the magazine long forgotten.

hi jello!! what about post timeskip levihan? commander hanji is working very hard and rarely, rarely sleeps (let alone eats and bathes properly. its worse than before now though.).
what if one time levi discovers hanji passed tf out due to sheer exhaustion in the most weird and random of places. he doesn’t want to wake them up bc hanji def needs the rest so he carries/tucks her into bed.🥺❤️
JAZZY thank you for the prompt! I kind of combined it with this one too:
Thank you, Anon!
Preview:
Hange gave a small laugh before saying, “Thank you Levi, I feel much better now.”
“Tch, you haven’t even done what we came here to do,” Levi scoffed.
Hange made a confused sound.
“Drop the dish.”
It had been 3 years since Shiganshina. Levi climbed into the carriage and sat across from Hange, who was still reading through her notes from the long and grueling meeting that lasted for the better part of the day. All the highest ranking military officials had been called to the capital to discuss Paradis’s best course of action. Queen historia was there, along with her staff, advisors, and of course Zackley. Levi had been to plenty of these meetings before, but this time was different in a bit of a distressing way.
Over the years, Levi had watched Erwin defend the scouts countless times. From questionable means of gathering information, to explaining away hundreds of lives lost, he always had an answer for everything and he always managed to leave with a favourable image. It was something Levi truly admired and even envied about Erwin.
But now he had been watching Hange flounder. She has indeed improved over the last 3 years, but she still doubts herself and while it might not be known to those around her, Levi can’t help but feel sympathetic to her situation. Today however, the other officials had been particularly ruthless.
“Take a break, Hange,” Levi ordered. Hange just sighed. Then her stomach growled. “Have you eaten today?”
“Uuuuuuuhhh,” Hange mused as she genuinely struggled to remember.
“Tch, there’s your answer,” Levi crossed his arms. The rest of the officials had a big dinner scheduled for tonight, but of course the Survey Corps got shafted and had to leave early in order to prepare. Hange met his eyes again with an exhausted look he was all too familiar with.
“How have you been sleeping?”
“Not great,” she admitted. Levi’s stomach sank. He had dealt with his own insomnia his whole life, but it seems worse on Hange. Perhaps it was the stark contrast from her former bubbly and loud personality. Hange pinched the bridge of her nose and let out another long sigh. Levi couldn’t help feeling inadequate and helpless. He rarely got himself to sleep, how could he help Hange?
Levi looked out the window at the setting sun when he got an idea. He realized what Hange had been neglecting while trying to be a good commander. Something that wasn’t just eating and sleeping. Something that was unique to Hange.
“Hange, there’s one more thing you need to do before we leave.”
Hange raised an eyebrow.
Levi told the driver to wait for them and escorted Hange to the dining hall.
“Levi, we were technically invited, but I don’t think showing up for food after we already said goodbye is a very good look for us,” Hange practically whispered.
Levi opened the doors and they were greeted with a sweet aroma of bread, appetizers, and whatever was going to be the main dish. Hange’s mouth watered. The long elegant table was decorated with ornate candles, beautiful china, crystal glasses, and there were 4 sets of cutlery for each place setting.
“Relax, they won’t be here just yet. They will all be busy getting dressed for dinner.”
Hange grabbed a bread roll and took a huge bite, not bothering to chew before she commented, “I never understood ‘dressing for dinner’ ugh. What’s the point?”
Levi was about to make a half hearted comment about how Hange could never fit in with “civilized” society, but he stopped himself when he saw she was eating and was a little bit more relaxed. He found a small plate of savoury looking appetizers and handed it to her. She immediately took one.
“MMM, Levi!” she exclaimed, pointing at the plate. She popped another in her mouth before saying, “you gotta try these!”
Levi put up a hand and said, “you enjoy.”
Hange enthusiastically cleared the whole platter in less than a minute, and Levi was watching her, endeared at the behaviour. He had missed this side of her. Despite how gross it was, there was a glimpse of the carefree Hange he once knew. A small hint of a smile tugged at the corner of his mouth.
Then Hange belched.
“Disgusting,” Levi waved the air in front of his nose.
Hange gave a small laugh before saying, “Thank you Levi, I feel much better now.”
“Tch, you haven’t even done what we came here to do,” Levi scoffed.
Hange made a confused sound.
“Drop the dish.”
Hange’s one eye widened as she processed what Levi was saying.
“C’mon, you need to blow off some steam. They were total assholes to you today, and for what? You didn’t know the exact amount of your food budget? And yet,” Levi gestured to the banquet. He then picked up a delicate looking wine glass. He held his arm outstretched, and loosened his grip, letting it crash to the ground. “Oops.”
A mischievous smile stretched across Hange’s lips. “Oops,” she mimicked Levi and let the empty platter fall to the floor, breaking into dozens of pieces. She slowly started to lap around the long luxurious set up, like a predator admiring her prey before pouncing.
“Right? And Nile, ugh, what a hypocrite! Giving me shit for not knowing about that small thing, belittling me in front of everyone,” Hange snapped a salad plate against the edge of the table. “It wasn’t too long ago when he would have been the first to admit he had no idea what the first interior squad were up to! We had to find out for ourselves. Erwin was almost hanged!” Hange kicked a chair over on its side.
“Yeah, fuck Nile,” Levi egged her on. He took a seat at the head of the table and started sipping from one of the water glasses.
“Is this his spot?”
Levi shrugged but Hange was already pouring out a glass of wine all over the white seat, staining it a deep crimson. Levi hid his delight behind another sip.
“And did you catch what he said at the end? ‘Some of us have wives to get home to’”, she imitated in a mocking tone as she casually pushed a platter of dumplings off the table. “Yeah, run home, Nile. Run home to Erwin’s SLOPPY SECONDS!”
Levi blew water out of his nose, and before he could react, Hange reached under the short side of the table and flipped it over, sending its contents hurtling across the room. Hange was elated at the result, laughing almost maniacally.
“Idiot,” Levi hissed, grabbing Hange’s wrist and leading her out the side door. He heard footsteps, and so he instinctively dove into nearby shrubbery, taking Hange down with him.
They hid in the bushes for minutes, Levi pressing his hand to suppress Hange’s uncontrollable laughter. It had been so long since she’d laughed like this. It was infectious and Levi might have actually laughed himself, were it not for the fear of getting caught. He had no problem telling the MPs where to shove it, but he didn’t want Hange to get in trouble. Her whole body was convulsing, and it was rattling the leaves around her. Levi used all his body weight to stop her jerky movements.
After about another minute of total silence, Hange tapped Levi’s arm, signalling to let go. He was hesitant, but he obliged. Hange drew a couple deep breaths, fanning herself, trying to calm down from laughing so hard. Levi was transfixed by the way the moonlight danced on her tear-stained face. They stared at each other for a moment before Hange snickered once more, causing Levi to cover her mouth yet again. “You’re impossible,” he said, pushing her head back down.
Once the coast was clear, they ran back to their carriage, hand in hand. Partly because Levi wanted Hange to keep up, and partly because it felt nice to hold her hand. They ducked their heads until they were off of the main roads. A few minutes later, Hange started giggling again.
“What?” Levi asked.
Hange bit her lip playfully as she reached into her coat and pulled out a bottle of expensive wine she must have swiped from the banquet.
Levi rolled his eyes, but couldn’t help his smile. She looked like a child that just got away with stealing more dessert. She looked joyful for the first time in a long time. She yanked out the cork and took a swig before offering the bottle to Levi. He graciously accepted and tasted the wine for himself. It was too sweet for his taste, but he couldn’t deny that it was spectacular.
That’s nice,” he commented.
“Pfft! It tastes the same as the cheap stuff!” Hange scoffed as she took the bottle back. Any other time, Levi would have teased her and started an argument, but not today. He wanted to cherish this moment. He leaned over to look at the stars through his window. Not a bad ending to an otherwise terrible day.
After Shiganshina, he and Hange had lost so much. Their comrades, friends; life as they knew it had completely changed and they barely had a moment’s breather to come to grips with it all. Levi was unfortunately accustomed to it, but Hange wasn’t. Hange had been so strong through all of this and Levi wanted to find the right words to tell her. Maybe it was the exhaustion they both felt; maybe it was the close proximity, but for some reason, somehow, Levi felt a tiny bit of courage surge through his veins.
“Hey, Hange, I-”
When he turned to look at her, she was fast asleep, neck crooked as she cradled the bottle of wine. Levi smiled at her. She looked peaceful, like she was getting quality sleep. He took the bottle from her arms and gently maneuvered her to a more comfortable, lying down position. He removed his jacket and draped it over her, as a make-shift blanket.
“Goodnight, Four-Eyes,” he mumbled to himself and returned to his seat. Hange slept the whole way home. When they finally arrived in the southern barracks, Levi couldn’t bring himself to wake her up. He quickly ran their luggage up to their rooms, and came back for Hange.
Being as gentle as he could, he scooped up the commander and ignored the curious look he got from the carriage driver. She was taller than him, and her long limbs made the trek a little difficult, but he was determined. Her steady breaths tickled the skin of his neck.
He carried her up the winding staircase and into her quarters. He lowered her on the bed, careful not to go too fast. He cradled her head for a split second longer than he needed too. He took off her long boots one at a time, placing them silently on the floor at the end of the bed. He undid the top two buttons of her jacket and shirt, just for comfort. Then he pulled the blanket up to her chin, and tucked around the sides.
Finally, he removed her glasses and eyepatch, caressing the tender skin underneath. Placing them on her night stand, he got up to leave. The door hinge creaked as he opened it, and Hange stirred.
“Mmm Levi?” She called out.
Levi wasn’t sure if she was actually awake, or if she was sleep-talking. He was still deciding whether he should answer when she continued, “Thank you, Levi. For everything.”
“You too, Hange,” he spoke just above a whisper, as he closed her door.

Raul was nervous.
Y/N knew he was anxious about something the moment he stepped foot into her apartment. They’ve known each other for so long, they’ve spent so much time together, that she was able to tell his fidgeting mannerisms and stiff shoulders from miles away. But under their current situations, him being this nervous could be a bad sign. He could’ve been discovered or something like that, which meant they’d have to leave the building in seconds and run as far away as they could.
Before she could stop herself, her eyes roamed all the expense of his body, looking for bleeding or any potential injury she could find, but none could be detected. Raul had left an hour ago for a morning run, Janet decided this was their day off since they’ve been working like crazy, so she forbid them from working on anything. So when he left after having a late breakfast with her, she wasn’t even worried about him being in danger, but seeing him all nervous was making her tense.
“Hi, doll” he said trying to sound casual but his voice sounded almost mechanic.
“Hey” she greeted from her spot on the couch, carefully placing her bookmark between the pages of the novel she picked up the other day “is everything okay?”
Raul dropped his keys and phone by the door as he nodded, moving behind the counter on the kitchen to fill a glass of water for him as he used that to calm himself down a bit “yeah, I just- do you want to go out tonight with me?”
“Uh, sure, is that all?”
Raul seemed surprised at that So, uh, you’d go out with me? Just the two of us?”
“Of course, we’ve done that before” she said still trying to understand his reaction. Was he asking her out on a date? And if he was, wasn’t it obvious she’d go?
“Yeah, I know, but this is different, I think we both know things changed between us, sweetheart, and this could be a chance for us to forget our reality for a second and just let things happen, maybe?” the normally confident, borderline cocky demeanor he normally carried around was gone. His body language showed clearly an almost shy side of him that Y/N wasn’t aware existed.
And she did know what he was talking about. They’re always close and intimate, he’s a very touchy kind of person and that’s definitely his love language, so that wasn’t knew. But spending the night and waking up cuddled to his chest was new, different in a good way, and that left her crush into growing by the second. It was getting harder to ignore, and honestly, Y/N didn’t have it in her to avoid it that much anymore.
“Yeah, I’d like that” and with that his face lit up completely and she flashed him a bright smile.
“Yeah?” he asked as he approached her, pressing a kiss to her forehead as she nodded “good, saw this really nice restaurant by the docks, it’s Italian”
“Oh great, what time do you want to leave? Just so I can get ready” she said looking up at him as he stood up to his full height.
Raul starting pulling his shirt off as he moved to the hallway leading to her bathroom “Seven works for you?”
“It does it’s perfect, I only need to help Celine out, but I’m having lunch with her to do that” Y/N replied as she forced herself to focus on the book in her hands and not the perfectly designed muscles on his abs as he leaned on the doorframe to the bathroom.
She heard Raul chuckled as he closed the door, not locking right after. Y/N would need a few hours to get herself together if she wanted to survive this ‘date’.
-*-
She ended up spending most of her afternoon with Celine and trying to calm down. If Celine noticed, she didn’t express anything, maybe too worried about her little mission tonight, but she was a good distraction. Trying to explain the best use for all of the equipment she receive and discussing the plan over and over again. Then she was told to leave and rest, boss’ order since it was their little day off.
Y/N got back to her apartment at around 5 p.m. finding Raul napping on her couch, the little fluffy blanket she had cuddled close to his chest. She had to hold back a coo not to disturb his sleep, and physically stopping herself from playing with his hair or caressing his face. So she decided to shower while he rested, so when he was up he could have the bathroom all to himself.
Before leaving the bathroom, she peaked her head outside of the door to check if Raul was still peacefully sleeping on the couch, which he was. So she took that to her advantage as she crossed to her room with only a towel wrapped around herself as she tried to figure out what she could possibly wear. She only packed really basic outfits, and sure, she didn’t really need to dress up and Raul’s seen her with every single type of outfit, so if she got all dolled up it wouldn’t be the first time or actually impactful.
But bless Y/N from weeks ago from deciding to throw a delicate sundress amongst all the gear she brought in her suitcase. It was a backless dress, with spaghetti straps holding the sunflower dress on her body. She felt pretty and comfortable in it, and it was enough to convince her this was it. A soft knock coming from her bedroom door brought her back to reality as she ran her hands down the front of the dress nervously.
“Yeah?” was all she said.
“Can I come in?” Raul asked before actually opening the door, only doing so after getting her consent “oh wow”
“What?” she felt a little self conscious under his gaze, she knew she’s been out with so many beautiful woman and she hated this stupid insecurity rising in her chest, but she could really help it.
All of her stupid questioning and anxiety were quickly washed away when she looked at him, finding Raul speechless and still staring at her, mouth slightly agape.
“Shit, you’re gorgeous, holy fuck, come here, doll” he said as he offered her his hand, which she gladly took as he pulled her closer, twirling her around blowing a low whistle “you’re so ducking beautiful, I love this dress on you”
Y/N shook her head giggling “oh stop it”
“I’m serious, baby, you’re just so perfect, sometimes I don’t even believe you’re real” as his praises slipped out of his lips she felt her face getting hotter and hotter.
“Oh God, you’re such a sap” all she could do was cover her face with her hands.
He gave her million dollar smirk pulling her hands away to look at her properly “only for you, sweetheart”
Y/N shook her head “I still need to put on some makeup” she warned him and he nodded, placing a kiss to her forehead.
“Take your time” he then added “I’ll change real quick and I’ll wait for you to finish getting ready, yeah?”
“Okay” was all she mumbled before she saw him leaving her apartment to walk down the hall to his.
She grabbed her little bag of makeup items deciding to do something a little bit nicer than her very basic everyday routine. Y/N padded her way still barefoot to her bathroom, propping herself up to sit on the sink and get closer to the mirror, placing her items nicely next to her. Just as she decided what she was going for, she heard Raul coming in. She let him know she was in the bathroom and she wouldn’t take long, but to her surprise, as she was prepping her skin, he slipped into the bathroom silently.
“Is everything okay?” she asked quietly looking at him through the mirror.
He was standing right behind her as he lifted his hands to place them in her waist, moving her hair to one shoulder to another, placing a gentle kiss to the newly exposed skin. Y/N felt a shiver run down her spine as she fought to keep her expression as neutral as possible, but he was making it hard. His cologne making her feel lightheaded, add that to his soft touches and eyes locked with hers through the mirror.
He was wearing a silky black button up, with the first few open, most of his chest exposed, his silver chain peaking through. His classic tight black jeans and his curls as perfect as ever. Raul looked like a fucking dream and being so gentle she felt like this was a dream, and it it weren’t for the cold of his rings against her slightly heated skin, she would be sure this was just her mind playing tricks on her.
“Yeah, just like watching you get ready” he mumbled placing another kiss to the place where her shoulder and neck met, making her let out a soft sigh.
Y/N trapped her bottom lip between her teeth as she met his gaze through the glass “you’re a little shit, you know that?” and he only chuckled lowly in his chest, shaking his head “let me finish so we can go!”
“I’m not stopping you” he said with a teasing tone and his smirk, but leaned away from her exposed skin, his hand never leaving her waist “but I guess I’ll behave cause I’m a good boy
“Of course you are” she chuckled, shaking her head, as she got back to her work.
She carefully applied a few items of makeup not wanting to look like it was too much, and every once in a while, she glanced back at Raul that stood patiently behind her. His thumb rubbing slow circles at her waist from time to time as he watched every move attentively. He smiled gently at her when he noticed her staring, a slight blush coating his cheeks.
“You look so pretty, doll” he admitted at she leaned forward to apply some mascara “so so pretty”
Y/N giggled shaking her head “did you hit your head or something? What happened to you today? You’re clingier and sweeter than ever”
Raul chuckled “I’m just enjoying my day off with my best girl, that’s all, I’m just happy and glad we got to do this” and with that she almost turned into a puddle “and just wanted to remind you how pretty you are”
“Thank you, darling” she meant it and she turned her head to place a quick kiss to his cheek, feeling her face heating up considerably “almost done, only a little highlighter and lipgloss”
Raul nodded as she finished applying the products and setting with a spray, before turning around to climb out of the counter. But before she could jump to get off, he had his arms around her waist to pick her up and carrying her to her bedroom as she squealed after laughing at him. He carefully placed her back on her feet at the bottom of her bed with a smile on his face.
“There you go”
Y/N laughed patting his chest softly “thank you” and then she turned to grab her shoes and her purse “do you think I should grab a jacket?”
“It’s probably better since it’s by the waters and we might need to walk a bit to reach the place I have in mind” he said with a shrug as he bit his lip “you can take mine, the leather one by the door”
“Are you sure?” she asked turning to fully face him completely ready, and she swears she saw his breath hitching.
“Yeah yeah, of course” he was quick to nod and she smiled at him in response.
“Okay!” Y/N practically hoped to the from door to grab the look, throwing it over her shoulders without actually putting it on and she waited for him.
Raul trailed behind her like a trained puppy chuckling, extending his hand towards her “you’re absolutely gorgeous”
“And you’re insanely pretty” she added as she interlaced their fingers letting him pull her closer to his body, his warmth radiating through his opened button down and the soft material of her summer dress.
“You think so?” Raul asked with a smirk and she nodded trying to hold back a laugh with an eye roll “good, pretty enough for you?”
Her eyes widened as she realized that behind his smirk he was actually curious, maybe even a tiny bit insecure, which made zero sense to her“Are you kidding me? You’re literally like a model of something”
“Thank you, sweetheart” he smiled genuinely, placing a kiss on her forehead before pulling her towards the door “now come on, promised you dinner”
-*-
The ride to the docks was pleasant, with him goofing around and singing horribly off tune to whatever song come up on the radio (and even though he would never admit it alive, he actually had a pretty decent singing voice, while Shawn was the singer, Raul wasn’t bad himself at all). He had his hand gently placed on her thigh, not high enough to make things weird, instead it was a comforting weight keeping her grounded and lightheaded at the same time.
They couldn’t park next to the restaurant, having to find a spot on the parallel street alongside everyone else who wanted to venture on the stores and diners. Raul was quick to hop out of the car and open the door for her, to which she just laughed and kissed his cheek as a thank you, locking her arm with his as they walked around the block.
The place he picked was a small cozy restaurant, looking all warm and homey as soon as the stepped foot in it. They were quickly whisked away by the host and walked to their table as they sat on a booth by the window, watching all the boats and movement from the street. Y/N sat across from him so they could both have enough room to feel comfortable.
“This place is so cute” she was the first to break the silence that installed as the walked in.
“You liked it?” his shoulders relaxing as she nodded her head cheerfully.
She looked around before turning back to face him “I loved it, never could’ve imagined we’d be in a place like this under this circumstances, but I’m glad we are”
“Me too, I wish I would’ve asked you out on a different situation, maybe a few months ago” he said scratching the back of his neck looking anywhere but her face “and I know this isn’t a proper date and stuff, but I think it’s a great start so we could figure out where to take this, but if you want it to be a date it’s fine by me! It’s just- I-“ Y/N couldn’t let him get into his head, so she gently placed her hand on top of the one he had resting on the table.
“Hey” she called softly as he finally looked at her, so she shot him a small smile “we don’t have to label anything for now, yeah? We don’t need to worry about this right now, we have other stuff in our heads, okay? We have all the time we could ask for and I don’t mind waiting a bit longer”
Raul smiled at her and brought her hand to his lips, pressing a kiss to each knuckle (an old habit of his, it started when she punched a guy in middle school for bothering Peter, he kissed each bruise and swollen knuckle he could, saying she was so brave and so strong) “yeah, I’m normally not his nervous, and I know I technically don’t need to be, it’s just you’re too important to me for me to fuck things up”
“You won’t, don’t worry, yeah?” she offered and he nodded “now, let’s discuss an important matter, what are we having?”
“Great question and I have no fucking clue” he admitted and she laughed at him.
They ended up picking a plate for them to share since it was a big portion as the talked, and time seemed to fly around them. They’re always so easy going, conversations flowed so naturally and it felt so right, they both ended up forgetting why they’re so nervous to begin with. This wasn’t a date date, it was just an excuse to understand where they stood and how they wanted to proceed, and they’ve known each other for years, it’s not like they had to make amazing first impressions if they wanted this to work.
They decided against ordering dessert since Y/N claimed she saw an ice cream shop down the block and that she was pretty much stuffed anyway. So Raul payed the bill against her protests, but she ended up giving in with a promise she’d be the one to buy their ice creams. They walked hand in hand down the small street that was surrounded by people, and as she claimed, there was this beautiful ice cream shop.
They placed their orders as she paid and he grabbed both of their treats, and ended up deciding to just eat outside on the light breeze to watch the boats and the water. They walked to the end in the street, leaning into the small wall that kelts kids from falling or jumping on the water. They’re just lightly chatting about random stuff, recounting old embarrassing stories when she visibly saw Raul’s demeanor change drastically.
But before she could ask what’s wrong or turn around for potential triggers, she felt a calloused hand on the exposed skin of her back. When she whipped her head around to see whoever was standing behind her she was surprised to be met with the man himself. Geonoff Reyes was standing right behind her.
“Oh hello, Y/N, how are you?” his voice made her stomach churn.
“Oh my God, hi!” she smiled politely turning completely to face him, her back now pressed to Raul’s front, unconsciously moving away from the man’s gross touch and into Raul’s warm chest “I’m okay, you remember him, right, love?”
She didn’t need to turn around for Raul to know she was talking to him “oh yeah, hey man, how have you been?” he had an arm around Y/N’s waist in a second, bringing her even closer to him and she went gladly, the weight of him on her comforting.
“I’ve been good, working a lot, trying to expand my business”
Y/N squealed softly in a fake excitement “Oh that’s awesome!”
“Yeah, congrats, man” Raul said with a smile he wasn’t even sure how he managed to fake.
“Thank you, guys, it’s been hard but it’s worth it” Reyes’ said with a smirk on his face “are you guys here on a date or something? I’m not interrupting anything, right?”
“Oh no, it’s okay, we’ve been down here for a while now, but yeah, Raul has been trying to get me to come down here for a while so he made it a date night and I couldn’t really say ‘no’” she explained as she placed her hands on his bicep, holding him in place.
“And are you liking it so far?” his slightly annoyed tone didn’t go unnoticed by Raul, as he glanced at the arm he had wrapped around Y/N as if it was something revolting.
“Oh yes, it’s amazing, really, such a beautiful view” she added pointing to the boats.
“Agreed, but you’re a a better view” Geonoff chuckled at his own flirtations joke and Y/N chuckled softly when in reality she wanted to puke “well, in case you ever feel like it, I own a couple of boats, so I could take you on a ride if you wanted”
Raul almost lost his temper there, but he felt Y/N slightly squeezing his muscle and he forced himself to relax and to keep his cool.
“Oh thank you, but I’m a little afraid, rather be here on land where I know I’m safe” she said with a sweet smile, but she had a bitter taste on her mouth.
“In case you ever change your mind, you have my number” he added with a wink “I gotta get going, have a meeting in my yatch now”
“Have a nice night, man, good luck with your business” Raul forced himself to speak up and Geonoff looked up at him almost as if he had forgotten he was there and flashed him a smile, but not without looking him up and down with disgust.
“Oh yes! Have a great night” Y/N waved politely “Don’t let us keep you from getting to your meeting, wouldn’t want you getting late”
“Good night, drive home safely, yes?” Geonoff said, reluctantly peeling his eyes from Y/N’s figure.
“Of course, I’ll keep her safe, don’t worry” Raul said kissing her hair and she giggled in response.
Geonoff waved before walking in the area she supposed was where he’d climb on his yatch, and only then Y/N noticed the man in suit surrounding him, heavily armed. When he was finally far enough she let ou a breath she didn’t know she was holding, melting completely into Raul’s chest. He held her tighter so she wouldn’t slip.
“Come on, it’s getting late, my love, let’s get you home” Raul said pulling her in the direction to their car.
The whole way home Raul didn’t utter a single word and Y/N was still processing everything, so they both sat in silence, the only noise was coming from the soft purr of the engine and the low music coming from the radio. As he parked oh the garage, they both got out of the car and moved to the elevator almost automatically, still without speaking up, mostly due to possibly leaking some information.
As if he could read his mind, when she started breathing a bit heavier due to the stressful situation and the weird vibe they had between them, Raul quietly slipped his hand in hers, giving it a gentle yet reassuring squeeze. She then left a breath she didn’t know she was holding, stepping out of the elevator as it hit their floor and dragging him behind her like a puppy to enter her place.
“Are you okay?” Raul asked as soon as she locked the door and turned to face him.
She nodded leaving her shoes by the door, alongside her purse and hanging her (his) leather jacket “Yeah, just a bit shocked, you know? Wasn’t expecting him to be there, Celine’s been following him for the thing he had, but we didn’t know he’d have a meeting on a boat”
“Yeah, sorry about that” he mumbled mimicking her actions as he scratched the back of his neck.
“It’s okay, you did nothing wrong, honey” Y/N said finally actually looking at him, noticing the prominent frown on his face, a small pout on his overly pink lips “hey, it could’ve happened to anyone and anytime, you couldn’t have known”
Raul huffed a breath shaking his head as he plopped down on the couch, running a hand on his hair “yeah, but this was one of our only chances to relax for the past weeks and he ruined it everything”
“He didn’t ruin everything” she was quick to stop him, sitting down beside him, tucking her legs under her body as she rested her arm on the backrest of the small couch, stretching a bit to place her hand on his shoulder “I had a lovely time and I honestly can’t remember when was the last time I actually had this much fun on a non-date date”
Raul turned his face slightly to place a gentle kiss on her hand “really? You’re not just lying to make me feel better?”
She gasped feigning offense “what do you take me for?”
“A liar” he stated without blinking, and she was quick to try to get up and make a dramatic scene, but he was faster to wrap his long fingers on her wrist near his face, pulling her back down and in his lap as he laughed “come on, doll, it was just a joke”
“You're an idiot” she said laughing trying to climb out of his lap, but the arm that was wrapped around her waist stopped her.
Raul shook his head “no, no, stay here, sweetheart, and we’ve already discussed this” he said looking pointedly at her, but the small grin playing on his lips gave him away and she shook her head “Yes, I am an idiot, but I’m your idiot”
“I don’t mind that” she said with a shrug and he smiled at her.
“Good thing you don’t” he chuckled, comfortable hand on her back as he drew random shapes on the exposed skin of her back making her shiver slightly “you know, the jacket looked really good on you”
Y/N huffed a small laugh shaking her head“Yeah? Might steal it”
“You shouldn’t announce it, silly, but I have to admit, you could probably steal my whole closet and I still wouldn’t be mad at you” he said turning her in his lap to face him and making her properly straddle him “you look too good in my clothes for that” he added voice slightly lower.
If Y/N had been drinking water she would’ve choked, but she tried to keep her face as straight as possible “you're such a flirt”
He then laughed “Only for you, doll”
“Oh shut up, you literally flirt with yourself on reflexes and might have flirted with the dog we saw earlier” Y/N pointed resting her hands on his chest as she laughed.
But Raul shook his head trying to hold himself from chuckling “well, it’s not intentional, didn’t know you were jealous of my own reflection”
“I'm not the jealous one here, darling” she had a teasing glint in her eyes, but he didn’t even hesitate before admitting, knowing denying would be ridiculous at this point.
“What do you want me to do? Everyone wants you, I can’t help it sometimes” he said and Y/N arched a brow at him “okay, okay, most times, but you’re just so fucking pretty and smart, and talented and good and of course I get jealous”
She was left slightly speechless. Sure he always complimented her, about pretty much everything but they’re normally casually thrown, here and there, but since they weren’t so directly she was able to brush it off with a joke. But never so many in a row and looking her straight in the eye. Y/N looked down, dropping her hands on her lap and fidgeting with her ring.
But then she felt his hand tilting her head slightly up so she could look him in the eye, her whole face burning up, and he smiled so sweetly at her she was even slightly breathless. His hand came to rest on her jaw as his thumb caressed her cheeks gently “did I say something wrong?”
“No, no, no” she was quick to add “no, you’re just-”
His voice was quiet when he inquired “What?”
“So sweet and-” she sighed looking around and shook her head.
“Sweetheart?” his voice was like honey, all warm and making her feel tingly as she looked down at him again and she didn’t know what to do.
Raul was staring at her lips and they’re suddenly too close, she didn’t even notice how close to his face she was, her noses almost touching, and maybe they gravitated closer to each other unconsciously, almost like magnets. But she wasn’t complaining. Her mind having a tiny short circuit and she got lost in his eyes.
He leaned forward a bit more, giving her a tiny eskimo kiss, their lips brushing “Am I reading this wrong?” his voice an octave lower and she shook her head, leaning in the rest of the way.
She caught his lips in a tentative kiss, hands splayed on his chest, not fully confident on it, but all of her self doubts flew out of the window as he sighed happily kissing her back, pulling her even closer to him and keeping her flush against his chest with a hadn’t around her waist. She literally felt like she was on the moon, her head spinning as he enveloped her in everything him.
His hand gently caressing her face, his other one on her waist, his cool rings a stark contrast to the heated skin exposed by the low-cut back of her dress. His smell was everywhere, his thighs under him and the soft fabric of his silky shirt. Raul didn’t hesitate to slot her bottom lips between his two, deepening the kiss and taking control of it.
All this years, all his pent up emotions taste on his tongue as he swept it over her soft glossy lips, and she was quick to open her mouth to him. Bringing one of her hands to tangle on the small curls at the base of his neck, pulling on the soft chocolate curls and he could not hold back the small whine that left his lips and she swallowed it. The soft strokes of his tongue against her making her want to his him forever.
But as if he sensed it, he pulled back placing a long kiss to her lips and trailing his mouth in slow wet kisses down her neck “can't believe I waited this long for this to happen” but Y/N only hummed in response, too lost in the feeling and trying to catch her breath, pulling his hair a little harder and he let out a deep groan “fuck, sweetheart, you’re gonna be the death of me”
She then titled his head up by his hair, before glueing their lips back together, his hand dropping to her exposed thigh and her breath hitched in her throat. But before things could go any further, she heard a strong knock on her door, making her snap her head to look at the front door of her apartment.
“Y/N, sweetie, I need help” she barely recognized Celine’s voice in the fake sweetened tone she used for her cover.
“Oh shit, they must be back from the mission” she whispered as she turned to Raul with wide eyes and he looked completely blissed out “what are we going to do?”
“Honey, is your boyfriend in there? Hope you’re both decently dressed” Celine called with a teasing tone and it didn’t seem fake at all.
Raul held her face in his hand trying to get her to focus and said it in a hushed tone “it's okay, go open the door to her and we don’t have to say anything just yet, we can talk about this later, yeah? Everything’s fine, I just need a second to- uh, you know, calm myself down a bit” he added the last part a bit shyly and she nodded taking a deep breath.
“He's here but we’re decent” she shouted back with a fake laugh as she scrambled out of his lap, leaning down a bit to arrange his curls and cleaning the excess gloss that transferred onto his lips “Coming, darling, you want me to kick him out?” she offered shooing him out of the couch and aligning the throw pillows to make it less obvious.
“No, no, he can stay, it’s just Trevor again” Celine came up with the stupidest excuse she could think of.
Raul nodded to her as he hid behind the kitchen counter, casually grabbing a beer. So she took a deep breath and tried getting herself together before unlocking the door, being met with Celine looking at her suspiciously in casual attire.
“Oh hi, come in” Y/N said as she straightened her dress and pulling the door more open, watching as Celine stared her up and down but not saying a thing about her slightly disheveled state.
Instead she looked at Raul by the kitchen counter and said “Jack's coming with Tom in a sec” and sat down on the couch.
Y/N felt Raul’s gaze on her, but instead she just turned to close the door and then sitting by Celine, trying to ignore those damn butterflies on her stomach.

A letter that you never read - what can I say? Amazing! Loved every second and the epilogue - my heart ❤️ would love to see more of when Thomas met Anthony (loved that he knew and threatened him 😂), the time they almost got caught and Kate meeting the bridgertons. But only if you can I know it’s been mental for you at the minute and I just want to thank you for providing us with all the amazing content you do!
Ahhh I’m so glad you enjoyed it! I know the epilogue was kind of unnecessary but hey literally everything I write is unnecessary.
Do y’all wanna see some Sheffield family feels? You wanna see Thomas Sheffield tryna comfort his daughter’s broken heart?
As much as Thomas Sheffield hated to admit it, Katie wasn’t a little girl anymore. She wasn’t the tiny baby he’d brought home from the hospital, wasn’t the little girl he’d cradled to sleep when she’d cried and her own tears had mixed with his when her mother had died. She was a young woman, and smart and funny, and kind and so beautiful it made his chest ache. And he knew it was only a matter of time until a young man realised this as well. But that didn’t mean he had to like it.
It was unfortunate really, or rather fortunate, he couldn’t tell, that Katie seemed to have a little crush on a boy at school. Not that she’d told him and Mary, obviously, it was more just the way she acted. When Mary asked if she was going to the cinema with anyone and she would avert her eyes, or Mary asked if she was going to the dance, or if she, god forbid, liked any of the boys at school. Kate would duck her head, shaking it vehemently, embarrassment leaking into her voice when she said
“Mary who would ask me?!”
And Thomas would watch as his wife would tut and say “Lots of boys sweetheart.”
“Well none have.” Mortification etched on her face.
“Katie, if you like a boy it’s okay.” He’d said, though his stomach was aching with the thought of a teenage boy discovering just how beautiful his daughter was. And finally she’d snapped.
“It really doesn’t matter, because he doesn’t like me, and I’m pretty sure if he knew it definitely wouldn’t be okay Dad!” Storming upstairs before the conversation had continued.
And he and Mary had both seen, how she’d looked at the boy who’d smiled at her as he left school at the end of the day, a look of longing on her face and really, he wanted his daughter to be happy more than anything. So even though she was leaving for University I’m the morning, he’d pushed her to go to the party. One last time, one last chance to tell this boy, who looked far too handsome for Thomas’s liking actually, how she felt.
He’d expected to worry about her, but she was about to move away, it was time to show her he trusted her to make her own decisions. What he hadn’t expected was her phone call not two hours after she’d left the house, tears choking her words.
“Daddy,” her voice so small he thought he’d been sent back in time for a moment. “Can you pick me up?”
Thomas’s heart stopped, on high alert suddenly, racing around for his keys. “Katie, are you alright?”
“I’m fine can you just… come and pick me up please?” Her voice choking, and he’d been out the door before he’d even responded.
He’d found her sitting at the bus stop, two streets away from the party, her head in her hands, her shoulders heaving as she looked up at him when the car pulled up and his heart broke all over again. Worry pooling in his stomach, panic, assessing his daughter for harm.
Katie rushed to the car, pulling open the passenger side door, tears streaking down her face, as her shoulders heaved in the seat next to her.
“Peanut, what happened?” He fought to keep his voice calm despite the mounting panic.
Katie shook her head, her breath coming in rattling gasps. “Nothing.” She wiped furiously at her tears.
“Sweetheart , did that boy,” he swallowed convulsively, “Did he try and make you-?” As much as it would hurt him to hear it, it would hurt her much worse if she couldn’t speak to him about it, if she had to suffer through it alone.
Her head shot up, shaking vehemently, her eyes wide, stunned. “No! Anthony would never-” she cut herself off. Clearly feeling she’d said too much. So Anthony was his name was it? Wait? Edmund’s Anthony?
“Bridgerton? Edmund’s boy. Katie if he hurt you I’ll-” Thomas could feel rage simmering in his stomach, ready to leap from the car, and find the kid, no matter how much he liked his father.
“He didn’t hurt me.” Her voice was tiny, her hand wiping at a few stray tears behind her glasses, and she looked so beautiful in the streetlight Thomas felt his chest ache.
“I just… I thought he liked me and I guess I was wrong.” She shrugged at the end though her voice broke and tears swam in her eyes again. And Thomas felt his heart break for his daughter, who pretended to be so strong all the time, never letting anyone see how much he hurt. He took a deep breath, brushing her hair back from her face, tucking it behind her ear.
“Katie, if he doesn’t like you, then he’s stupid, and he definitely doesn’t deserve you.”
She scoffed. “Right. I don’t deserve him, I was stupid to even think he might like me for a second.”
Thomas frowned, scoffing, “What does he have that you don’t?”
“He’s really smart, and he’s going to Oxford, and he’s kind of funny in a stupid way, and his smile is nice, and I wanted him to like me, Dad.” Her voice was still small, shrinking in on herself. And Thomas felt tears prick at his own eyes.
“Well, my daughter, I don’t know if you’ve met her, Katie,” she rolled her eyes, and Thomas was glad to see the improvement. “She’s pretty incredible, she’s going to Bristol tomorrow, and she makes me laugh all the time, and one day she’s going to be the most incredible person and that boy who didn’t have the good sense to like her back when she was 18 is going to look so stupid.”
“You have to say that.” She sighed, “You’re my Dad.”
“No, I have to say it because It’s true. I look like I’m bragging because I’m your Dad.” He smiled, as her shoulders relaxed, smiling a little, “And trust me peanut, in ten years, Anthony Bridgerton won’t be so cute.”
Unfortunately for Thomas, when his daughter tugged on a startlingly tall man’s hand seven years later, pulling him into the living room with the most beautiful smile on her face as she looked up at him and said
“Dad, Mary, this is Anthony Bridgerton.” He realised that Anthony Bridgerton was even more handsome than he had been as an eighteen year old, now that he’d decided he was in love with Katie. And it was infuriating.

Well, I’ve had this little Eidad fic on the back burner for a while now, sitting in my drafts and not doing a while lot. This seems like a good time to post it <3 <3 <3
It’s a sick fic. Nothing too drastic, just an old maker getting worried about his human friend.
---
Eideard has always been an especially unflappable maker, a trait that tends to come with the territory of being the village elder.
He never gets flustered, and he always maintains the poise and composure expected of him.
Unless, of course, one of his fellow makers is under threat. Only then, by his own admission, does decorum fly out of the proverbial window and little else but worry takes over him, mind, body and soul.
Recently, he's come to discover that the same rule applies to a very specific, little human.
----
“I'm cold.”
That ought to have been their first clue.
You're sitting in the maker's forge, seemingly content to remain still and quiet beside the roaring fire whilst Alya and her brother, Valus, are hard at work at their anvil.
“Cold?” the former twin laughs incredulously, glancing up from the sword she's forging to turn and fix you with a raised brow, “You're sittin' close enough to that fire!”
Her brother though, always the more perceptive of the siblings, ambles around her and makes his way towards you, tugging at the green cowl that sits around his neck. You may be vastly smaller than him, but even behind that visor, he can see the shivers you're trying to suppress. Blinking, you watch him as he bends onto one knee in front of you and holds his treasured garment out, uttering a low, almost undetectable whine.
“I'm okay, big guy,” you murmur, sounding far from it, “Think I've just got a bit of a chill.”
At that, Valus doesn't wait for you to reach up and take the cowl from his grasp and instead, with a huff, he leans forward to drape it around your shoulders, his thick fingers tucking it up underneath you as carefully as he can. Once he's finished, he sits back on his haunches to inspect you, satisfied when you snuggle further into the fabric and give him a shy smile.
“Thanks.”
Pacified, the burly maker returns your smile with a nod and pushes himself onto his feet, turning back to his sister and the anvil.
With their attention elsewhere, you allow your smile to fade, burying your face into Valus's scarf.
You're loathe to tell them the whole truth, that accompanying your chills is a raw throat that feels as though it's been rubbed tender by sandpaper, and an ache in your limbs that only grows worse and worse by the hour.
There's no denying it.
You've come down with something.
At the very least, the makers don't know a lot about human biology, so you're relatively hopeful that you'll be able to pass this off as a mundane occurrence – definitely not anything they should be worrying about.
There is an unspoken rule amongst the giants, one that came about the moment they first laid eyes on you – a small, cowering little thing whose world had been destroyed only a few days prior.
The rule, never spoken aloud, yet understood by all, is that you are a youngling – despite your insistence to the contrary – and younglings are to be protected, especially those who have yet to reach their first century of life.
It also doesn't help that you're a human, and consequently only stand about as high as the makers' knees.
But for as endeared to you as they all are, there are none who are quite so taken as Eideard.
The village Shaman, Muria, speculates that their elder has seen more younglings and friends die off over the centuries than any of them, and thusly, that's where his protective tendencies stem from.
Thane, on the other hand, attests that Eideard has always been enormously tender-hearted, long before grief softened his edges.
If he were to find out that you're sick, you can't imagine he'd take it well.
Bottom line? You'd hate to worry him.
Unfortunately for you, there are some things that can't be kept from a group of watchful makers.
It's impossible to hide glassy eyes, tremors that rattle your whole body and a sudden, explosive sneeze that causes both Alya and Valus to jump out their skin, tools clattering to the stony ground.
“Stone's blood! Bit of warnin' before you go makin' noises like that, please!” Alya exclaims, resting a hand over her heart whilst Valus hurries over to you again.
“It was just a sneeze,” you try to protest, but the forge brother isn't buying it. Without a word, which isn't unusual, he clenches his fists and heaves himself about on a heel, marching purposefully towards the forge's entrance, deaf to his sister calling after him.
“Oi, Valus? Where are you off to?”
It's hardly a surprise that she doesn't get a response.
He disappears through the doors and you share a look with his sister, who hesitantly asks, “You.. sure you're okay?”
The fake smile you plaster on your face is apparently as unconvincing as it feels, judging by the flat look you receive from Alya in response.
A few moments later, the doors swing open once again and your ears pick up two pairs of resounding footsteps thumping through the forge.
Valus appears first, lumbering up the short flight of steps onto the raised dais where he's soon followed by the second maker, a particularly concerned-looking Eideard.
As soon as the elder's pale, grey eyes lock onto you, you slump forwards in defeat, any hope of riding this illness out in privacy now dashed. Of all the makers in Tri Stone, Eideard is the most well-versed in anthropology.
Shooting Valus a glare for his betrayal, you swallow your cough and groan, “Valus, I told you, I’m okay. You didn't need to bother Eideard.”
“I for one, am very glad he did.” From underneath his bushy, furrowed brows, the old maker studies you closely until you duck your head, weighed down by the heaviness of his stare, the whole while, your throat burns with the need to cough. Then, in a blink, his eyes widen again and the fingers clutched around his golden staff turn white as he breathes, “You're sick...”
At once, Alya shoots upright from where she'd been leaning casually against the anvil. “Sick!?” she blurts, her gaze snapping between you and her elder, “Why didn't you say somethin'?!”
“Because!” you argue, hating that Eideard’s face now appears almost twice its age thanks to the worry lines permeating his forehead, “It's not a big de-” As fate would have it, the raw spot at the back of your throat finally chooses its moment, and before you can stop yourself, you're lurching forwards into a vicious cough that burns at the tenderness like acid, bringing tears to your eyes and shame onto your clammy cheeks.
You become vaguely aware of a vast hand coming to rest on your back and fingers that pat you gently until you can catch your breath. Even after you've hacked yourself silly, you push Eideard's silken, blue sleeve away and try to get to your feet, hoping that if they see you standing, they'll be less inclined to fret. But the moment you begin to move, the same hand is cupping around your trembling body and you find yourself being lifted up and nestled against a broad chest by a maker who is wholly undeterred by your feeble resistance.
“I'm not a baby, Eideard!” you complain, trying to wriggle free as the maker presses delicately on your chest, forcing you to lay across his forearm, “Put me down! I can walk just fine.”
“Easy, now. You'll only hurt yourself further if you keep that up,” he rumbles in a tone that's far too gentle for your pride to withstand.
Embarrassed, you wilt down behind his fingers when you hear Alya's stifled giggles, but the old maker doesn't pay her any mind, simply turns away from the anvil and begins to shuffle down the steps, heading for the entrance. Almost immediately, you miss the fire's warmth and Eideard feels your shivers turn violent, his heart seizing at the sound of your teeth chattering together like rapid gunfire.
“You – you're not going outside, are you?” you croak, pulling Valus's cowl up to your neck, “It's freezing!”
“The weather is perfectly mild. You, on the other hand, are burning hotter than forge-fire.”
You open your mouth to protest but find yourself cut off when he continues, “I’ll not have this sickness turning into something worse. We may belong to separate species, but I wasn't born yesterday. A little fresh air will do you some good.”
“Ugh. You sound like my mum.”
His reply comes in the form of an affectionate, rumbling chuckle that you can feel travelling up through his palm and into your bones. Letting out a final huff, you flop backwards and turn limp in his hand.
It isn’t as though you can fight your way out of the Old One's grip, after all. For such an ancient maker, Eideard is powerful, and his age does little to detract from that strength. The meagre resistance you put up is also proven ineffective by the silken softness of the fur trim on his sleeves that you run between your fingers.
Perhaps if you'd been looking at Eideard's expression instead of the doors as he pushes them open, you'd take notice of the disquiet lingering at the edge of his eyes.
He plans on taking you to see Muria in the hopes that she might have a remedy that can alleviate the fever spreading through your delicate body, and, failing that, he will sit with you in the peace of the night air and keep you still and safe until your tremors cease and his old heart stops trying to beat its way out of his ribcage.
You're more than welcome to resent him for this, he muses quietly, but after seeing so many of his people lost to corruption, it isn't such an easy feat to quell the pervasive anxiety that writhes like an impatient, snarling beast in his stomach, and he would much rather endure your resentment if it means keeping you out of harm’s way.
The village elder is supposed to protect his own, and glancing down at you and seeing that you've buried your face into the fabric of his robe to escape the cold, Eideard realises with a sudden surge of paternal drive, that you fall under the scope of those he considers 'his.'
The old maker clutches you possessively against his chest and hurries as well as his tired legs can carry him up towards the Shaman's gazebo, knowing that his soul will never know peace until you’re well once again.

Breath, Please
Prompt: Tech dies while trying to save Omega. She still dies.
TW: Torture, Death
Read at your own risk. @brekkers-girl , @angstkings , @icedcoffee101
Break because its long and i don’t wanna crowd someones dash
She wakes up to cold and darkness, having no idea how she got here or where she is. She remembers running, but not why she was.
From what she can see of the room she’s in, which isn’t much, she's in major trouble. The chains binding her to the wall are thick, and the manacles tight. There's rough stone behind and below her. It smells of mildew and there’s an old metallic tang in the air. She knows that smell, from all her hours under Nala Se, to be blood.
She can’t see more than a meter from where she sits, but she assumes the door is across from her. Though it's hard to tell. The only thing she's going by is the occasional distant screams, and broken pleas for help.
She doesn’t like this place. She wants to go home. Back to her squad. Back to her brothers.
⌖⌖⌖
She doesn’t know how long she was sitting in the dark before the door suddenly screeched open and a too bright light blinked on. She recognizes the footsteps that enter the room. She may not have been around him long, but Crosshair is a very meticulous person. Every step is purposeful, every movement distinct.
Her lost brother didn’t enter alone either. There was a hover-cart and a flying probe of some kind. Once her eyes adjust to the bright light she can finally see the cart's contents to their fullest. Knives of many shapes and sizes. Hypos full of who knows what. Whips and flails. An electric baton.
She thought she felt fear when that bounty hunter was chasing her. That doesn’t even compare to the bone chilling terror she feels right now. She can feel herself trembling, and she can’t stop the tears already streaming down her face.
“Where are the traitors?”
Her dread increases tenfold at the harsh and cold way the words were growled at her. She thought his voice was uncaring before the chip took effect. There is no humanity or warmth left in his being. Nothing that was Crosshair exists anymore.
When she doesn’t answer he reaches for the baton. Turning it on he asks again.
“Where are the traitors!”
A few seconds passed before the electric end was jammed so harshly into her stomach that something burst. The pain was excruciating, more pain than she had ever felt before. Her nerves feel fried and she knows this is just the beginning, but she can’t give up her squad. They will come for her, she knows this. She just has to withstand and then they will get her out.
She’s a bit more prepared for the next strike. That didn’t stop her voice from cracking on a sharp scream from the agony. He held that strike a bit longer than the first one. Watching her twitching form as he circles her like a predator waiting to pounce.
Could be hours or even days before he grows bored. She has long since lost her voice, throat raw and bleeding. She’s tired and bruised. Crosshair looks like he’s just begun, carefulling picking up every knife and looking over every inch.
Finally after his deliberation he picks up a relatively short blade. It’s thin and curved. What kind of a blade is it?
He moves behind her with the knife and stops. He doesn’t move, doesn’t breathe. It’s almost more unsettling than being tortured out right. She knows he plans to hurt her, and has hurt her. Why is he waiting?
The sudden tight grip on her hair, pulling her head back, startles a blood choked gasp from her. The small blade is pressed to her cheek, and before she can even breath the blade pierces her flesh. The flesh of her cheek is removed in one smooth cut. He moves the blade again and this time all the flesh from her wrist to her finger tips is cut from her.
He takes his time removing pieces of her flesh. Always careful enough so she doesn’t bleed out. Always meticulous with every cut. Moving from her hand to her back. From her back to her stomach, to her foot. Until eventually she's a checkerboard of missing pieces.
He stands before her now. Looking at her with such a bored look on his face, and all she can do is stop herself from writhing in pain. He pauses for merely a moment to see if she will finally talk before picking up the next tool.
⌖⌖⌖
Eventually Crosshair gets called away and she's left with the probe. It's worse. Crosshair stopped every once in a while. He gave her time to breathe, to choke the blood back down her throat. The probe constantly shocks her. It pumps her veins full of toxins and drugs, until she can’t see. Until she can’t feel herself breathe. Is she even breathing?
⌖⌖⌖
They’ve been running through this maze of identical halls for the past two hours and they still haven’t found her. The likelihood that Omega is still alive dwindles the longer they take. Currently they have a 3.8% chance of finding her. If they were to split up that would raise their chances by 18.3%. Tech tells the others as such, but they’re reluctant.
“Splitting up is our best course of action to find omega alive.”
“Right. Echo, Wrecker, you take the southern hall. Tech you’re with me.”
They had only cleared five more halls before they came to another T. Tech didn’t even need to say anything for Hunter to know what his suggestion would be.
“No, we stick together.”
“It would be more practical-”
“I said no, Tech.”
“I am as concerned about Omega's welfare as the rest of you. Arguing is not helping her, and splitting up gets us to her faster.”
“Alright! Fine, just keep comms open.”
“Leaving our comm channel open will increase the likelihood of our enemies discovering our location.”
“I know Tech, but if I can’t see you I need to be able to hear you. I can’t lose any of you.”
“Comms open, Sarge.”
“Good luck.”
“You as well.”
⌖⌖⌖
It's the 13th door of the 17th hallway that he bursts through and finds her. Strung up by skinned wrists, covered in burns, welts and cuts. He doesn’t hesitate to shoot the probe shocking her, but it takes him a second to force himself to move towards her. She looks dead. She can’t be dead, but he knew the likelihood of them finding her so was 85.37%.
He’s careful in the way he moves her, checking for a pulse. He finds it weak and dropping fast. He can barely choke out her name through his tightening throat. She’s just a child and she died for them. No dying, they could save her. He releases her cuffs and cradles her to his chest.
Running back through the countless halls he informs the others that he found her and that he’s in route to extraction point B. He was two halls, 43.6 meters away from freedom, when his way was blocked. There’s at least a full platoon in front of him, and two more approaching from behind. He ducks into a narrow crevice in the wall and fires on the troopers. He holds his own for several minutes, but he’s out numbered.
A shot to the thigh has him collapsing out of the crevice into the hall. He stands and continues firing before taking several shots to the torso drops him to his knees. Another volley of shots to the belly, chest and back sends him crashing to the floor. He’s choking on the blood filling his lungs when he feels a familiar thundering charge.
He hears a hellfire of blaster bolts and the crunching of armor and bone as he painfully crawls his way to Omega. He pulls up himself to sit in front of her, acting as a living shield. Cradling her away from all the bolts flying through the hall. He’s still struggling to breath as the others clear their way to them. He struggles to breath still as Echo lifts him up into his arms. He struggles the most when Omega is taken from his arms.
He can feel every step Echo takes in his back. He can feel every turn in his chest. The breath that fills his belly hurts, but he knows it's not enough. He knows he’s slipping. Just like he knows when Hunter chokes on a breath that they failed. That they lost their baby sister for good.
Somehow he survives the run to the ship. He’s still alive when Echo hands him to Hunter. Still alive to see the grief in all their faces. Still alive to feel when Omega is replaced in his arms. Still alive to feel her get colder by the second.
He’s aware when Hunter chokes on another sob. He’s aware when Hunter begs someone to breathe. He’s aware when the ship enters hyperspace.
He wasn’t aware when his heart stopped. He wasn’t aware when Hunter couldn’t choke back his anguish anymore. He wasn’t aware of the others holding each other, holding him and Omega, while they sobbed.
And he wasn’t aware when he and Omega were buried together in a valley full of the most beautiful flowers the group had ever seen.

CH 5: Interconnected
A 10 year-old Hange sat by the edge of the river running right outside her home, listening to the happy quacks of little turtle ducks swimming by. She smiled as she molded the fire in her palm into a small ball of flame, tossing and kicking it back and forth to herself. Erwin walked quietly towards the river, and stared at Hange from afar. He couldn’t help but watch, mesmerized at the finesse of her movements—she was a natural, more adept than even the adult firebenders he knew, at just 10 years old. She was just a kid, but she was skilled beyond her years. He was so proud of her, but admittedly, a little jealous. He looked down at his hands, sad that he wasn’t gifted with the ability to bend an element. He lowered them and shook his head—despite this, the pride he had for his best friend far outweighed any sadness he felt being a non-bender. He’d always stand by her side.
“Hange, I got the stuff you asked for.” He pulled off his backpack and shook its contents onto the grass—a metal funnel, metal clamps, and wax adhesives. Hange’s eyes glowed with fiery excitement as she squealed with joy. “These are perfect!” She gathered the supplies and ran towards the house. “Come on Erwin, race you back to my room!” She sprinted ahead, and Erwin laughed as he ran to catch up with her.
Hange ran into her home, tracking dirt all over the wooden floorboards. “Hange dear, come on, I just mopped the floor!”
She disappeared into her room and yelled, “Sorry, Mom! I got a super-top-secret-urgent project to work on!”
Before she could ask Hange to come back and clean up her mess, she turned around to find Erwin already sweeping up the dirt.
“Oh Erwin, you’re so sweet, you don’t need to do that!” She gently took the broom out of his hand and ruffled his hair. “Go join Hange, don’t worry about it,” she said softly.
“Thanks for having me, Mrs. Zoe,” he politely nodded his head and walked into Hange’s room, closing the door gently behind him. He looked down to find Hange busy producing a tiny fire at the tip of her index finger, welding the metal to the rest of her contraption. Erwin knew better than to talk to her while she was engrossed in conjuring up her newest invention, so he put his backpack down on the floor and sat neatly across from her. He stared up at the wall, at the same picture frames he always looked at whenever he waited for Hange to finish her latest project. The picture was that of a man who resembled Hange’s father, his arm around a young Avatar Roku and a few other people, all of them smiling together.
According to Hange, the bespectacled man in the painting was her great grandfather, a good friend of Roku. Beneath this was a picture of Erwin’s grandparents arm-in-arm with Hange’s grandparents and all of their friends. The picture below that was one from a few years before either Hange or he was born, showing his and Hange’s parents laughing together, and in the center, a beautiful woman with long, black hair and the most gentle eyes. Generations… lifetimes of the most powerful firebenders, yet the most kind people were displayed there before him, and it was almost crazy to think that he and Hange, along with their new friends, Mike and Nanaba, were probably next in line to join that wall—a wall displaying both genuine friendship and deep loyalty to the peaceful and harmonious land the fire nation once was. Erwin smiled as he remembered his father’s words to him one night not too long ago—“Friendships really do transcend lifetimes.”
“Success!” Hange held the contraption in her hand, a mess of metal tubes swirling into a metal funnel at the end. Before he could ask what it was, Hange was dragging him by the hand and climbing out the one window in her room. “Hurry up ya slowpoke! Before my mom or Moblit hears us!”
They ran towards the small barn marking the halfway point between their houses. Hange walked along the edges of the barn to a spot in the dirt marked with a small scarf of hers. “Here! Help me dig, Erwin!” They used their hands to scoop piles of dirt out, deep enough to fit the end of the funnel under and inside the barn.
“Ok! Can you stay right here and listen to me through the pipe? Tell me how clear the sound is.” Hange ran around the corner and into the barn, and began to speak and whisper, alternating between the two. Erwin’s eyes widened in shock at the clarity—even Hange’s whispers were audible through the pipe. “How did she even manage to do this?” he thought to himself. Now they could listen clearly to their parents’ secret meetings, and he was quite excited with their new tool.
“From the look on your face, I take it that the acoustics are perfect, no?” Hange smiled deviously, and Erwin returned it. The two friends happily bumped fists. “Now we can hear about their next mission without taking turns pressing our ears against the wall!”
Ever since she and Erwin stumbled upon a meeting about a year ago, their minds became hyper-fixated on discovering their parents' work and uncovering the secrets behind it all. Since they were probably the two most dangerously curious kids of all the fire nation, it was only natural that they’d figure it all out eventually. They had spent the past year trying to listen to the group meetings in the barn, and learned all about their missions. Ridden with curiosity, the two eventually found years of hidden documents containing information on their families, kept in boxes under faulty floorboards of their homes.
When Avatar Roku mysteriously died nearly 100 years ago, his group of friends awaited their friend’s reincarnation as a child from one of the air temples. But after the fire nation attacks on the airbender monks, they feared the worst. The world began to tip out of balance, and when no avatar seemed to appear in the earth kingdom, they wondered whether the avatar was gone for good. But among Roku’s friends, hope was not lost—they passed down their stories from generation to generation, and as the fire nation grew in power, the Zoe family was the face of those defending from the inside, attempting to do what they could to restore balance. They became the crux of movement within the shadows of the fire nation, thwarting plans of conquering villages and cities of the world, keeping as many citizens and innocent people safe from fire nation soldiers’ violence. Their numbers have dwindled over the years from fighting for their cause, and most of them eventually moved into the earth kingdom colonies to help out the villages more closely, though a few stayed behind in the fire nation to continue retrieving intel from the inside and kept correspondence with any information gleaned.
Hange was quite keen on listening for more every week, confident in her desire to follow in her family’s footsteps. As much as Erwin shared Hange’s excitement, part of him was deeply concerned about Hange’s safety. Out of the families that moved out into the earth kingdom colonies, she was the only firebender in their generation, and he was afraid that she’d have to take on too much responsibility and carry the brunt of the work in order to live up to their families’ names. But they were only kids, right? He waved away his own worries—it’s not like they’d have to join in on this right away. Their parents didn’t even know that we found out about all of this yet.
-------- When the sun just began to set, the two friends snuck their way back to the barn under the calm, orange glow of the sky. They crouched down at the spot where they lodged Hange’s invention through the ground and listened in—but to their disappointment, the adults were simply chatting and enjoying each other’s company. “Booooring,” Hange sighed. “Maybe we should just call it a night, huh Erwin?” As Erwin readied himself to walk Hange home, he overheard the quiet closing of a door and a new voice sound through the pipe. They locked eyes and quickly threw themselves down to press their ears close and listen.
“Kuchel!” Hange’s mother exclaimed, and they heard the soft sound of sniffles and happy cries of the reunion.
“KUCHEL??” Hange exclaimed loudly.
“Who’s Kuchel?”
“My mom’s friend! Her best friend!” Hange clasped her hands together and jumped around in excitement. “Oh I’ve always wanted to meet her, she sounds so nice and—“
“Well, well, well, what do we have here?” Hange and Erwin spun around to see Hange’s dad staring at the two of them and eyeing their little listening device. “Eavesdropping now, are we? You might have made something where you can hear us loud and clear, but did you consider the possibility that we could hear YOU loud and clear from the other side?” Erwin and Hange nervously laughed at his words—they really did forget to consider that. He bent down to look at Hange’s creation and his facade of playing “bad cop” parent melted away quite quickly, and he turned to his daughter and chuckled. “So how did you make it?” As the two Zoe’s babbled on about the intricacies of Hange’s ideas, Erwin continued to listen into the barn.
“Oh yes, Kenny’s alright, as annoying as ever, telling me we should give up on all this and that my son and I should just move out here with all of you. But how else would we get more intel without me on the inside?”
“But you can move in with us! We can adjust. Our plans can change! Kenny’s right, it’s probably safer for you to stay here. On top of that, I’m sure your son would love to meet Erwin and Hange,” Hange’s mother answered.
“I’m sure he would. He’s very quiet and doesn’t really have any friends. But I have no doubt they’ll all meet someday.” She smiled at the thought of Levi making new friends, but her smile slowly transitioned into a concerned frown. “It might have to wait a year or two, though. I don’t know if I trust Zeke anymore...”
“Well what do you mean by that? Hasn’t Zeke proved himself to us?” Erwin’s father asked.
“I’ve seen him spend some more time with Ozai recently. I can’t put a finger on it... but I think something in him has changed. I think we may be able to trust him for now, but we’ll have to see.”
The doors of the barn slammed open, revealing Hange’s father holding Hange in one arm and Erwin in the other. “I think we found our culprits!”
Mike and Nanaba’s parents burst into laughter, while Hange’s mother and Erwin’s father darted looks of deep disapproval at their children.
Hange’s dad playfully threw the two down into the pile of hay that the horses were working on, who seemed to neigh at them in disapproval. Hange and Erwin lost themselves in a fit of giggles that simply lightened up the room from the bleak conversation about Zeke. The rest of them began to catch up again and reminisce about the “good old days” while Erwin and Hange pet and fed the horses.
A few hours later, Kuchel made her way over to them, and the two suddenly felt shy, falling quiet.
Erwin’s eyes widened in recognition as she sat close to them. “You’re the beautiful lady in the picture,” Erwin accidentally whispered loud enough for Kuchel to hear.
Kuchel laughed, “You’re Erwin, right? You’re the spitting image of your father, and from what I hear, the only person smart and strong enough to keep this one under control right?” she said as she looked over to Hange.
“What, me?” Hange questioned. “Yes, you! Come here, dear,” she waved Hange towards her and gently pulled her glasses off, and wiped them clean with her sleeve, and carefully pushed them back onto Hange’s face. “And you’re the infamous, reckless Hange Zoe, correct?” She laughed, and Hange was simply mesmerized by her kind soul and the loving twinkle in her eyes.
After warming up to each other, Hange soon begged for stories from Kuchel about how all their parents became friends and both she and Erwin eagerly listened. The three of them talked for what felt like hours, until Erwin and Hange could barely keep their eyes open, their sheer curiosity and interest in Kuchel the only thing keeping them awake enough to listen.
“So that’s the sign of you all being undercover firebenders right?” Hange asked sleepily as she pointed to the little charm peeking out from pocket of her skirt. Kuchel was startled by her question, and sighed in defeat. “Well, neither of you should know anything about this until you’re old enough, but it was silly of me to think that you two wouldn’t figure that out by now being the nosy little kids you are,” she said with a small laugh. She pulled out the charm to show them. “When the time is right, we’ll all pass them down to you. It might not be as significant now—it was once used to prove that you were one to be trusted, but now that there’s not too many of us left...” Erwin noticed the hint of sadness that showed in her eyes.
“Well, it‘s still important, something to remember who you are and where you came from. Whenever you look at it, I hope it brings you peace and reminds you that it’s our responsibility to bring back stability and light to our nation, no matter how dark it may become. But who knows, it still might be important in recognizing who is a friend or foe someday. Whoever holds one is someone you can trust—I can promise you both that.”
Hange asked, “Kuchel, will we ever get to meet your son?”
“I have no doubt you will,” she said with a smile. “Hopefully soon. I think you both would be really good influences on him.” With a yawn, Hange asked one more question.
“What’s his name?”
But before they could hear Kuchel’s answer, both of them were fast asleep. Kuchel smiled lovingly at the two. She gently pulled off Hange’s glasses, pocketed them before picking her up. She chuckled at the sound of her snores as Hange’s face leaned against her chest— “Just like her mother,” she thought and suppressed full-on laughter. She then whispered quietly into Hange ear, hoping it would somehow register in her heart, despite her being asleep. “It was a pleasure to meet you, Hange. And.... I can’t wait for you meet Levi someday. Don’t let his little scowl fool you—he has a good heart.” Kuchel beckoned Hange’s mother over to pick up Erwin. “Come on, let’s go put these two to bed.”
-------- Levi could not believe Erwin’s story. But... there was no denying the description of his own mother.
He remembered the day before his mother died, and her words that morning echoed in his mind, “Levi, did you know that some friendships are strong enough to transcend lifetimes?” He wondered if that applied here—an explanation as to why his bond with Hange ran so deep, and why he felt like he’d known Erwin, Moblit, Mike, and Nanaba for much longer than he actually did.
They had been interconnected this whole time. As much as it frustrated him that knowing this would have made their meeting 3 years ago much easier, he felt a wave of happiness fall over him, and he was absolutely overwhelmed from head to toe.
“So, youre Kuchel’s son.” Erwin remembered her kind eyes and gentle voice, and began to laugh.
“Oi, what the hell are you laughing on about?”
Erwin continued to laugh and started to wipe tears from his eyes. “I was just thinking about how you’re just...well let’s just say I never thought Kuchel’s son would turn out to be such a small, angry man.” He laughed, along with Nanaba and Mike. Levi grumbled but couldn’t help but let out a tiny smile.
After their laughter died down, Levi let the information sink in a little along with the situation at hand. “I didn’t know you met her...” he sighed. It seems there was a lot he didn’t know, and he wished he could turn back time and ask his mother everything.
Mike asked, “What did happen to your mom anyway? I know you said she was gone but...”
“She died after she saved a child from a house fire. My uncle and I were gone training for a weekend. I was only 12 at the time,” Levi said as he stared down at the ground.
“Since you and Hange are the same age... that must mean she died around the same Zeke betrayed everyone and had fire nation soldiers kill our parents,” Nanaba said quietly.
Each of them held their parents’ charms tightly in their hands. All was silent except for the rustling of leaves in the gentle breeze and the crackle of logs from their campfire. Dusk quickly fell upon them, the glow of the moon peeking through the light cloud cover.
Erwin’s eyes softened as he looked at Levi. “Well, we got some work to do, don’t we? Hange and Moblit are in trouble—I can only imagine what Zeke wants to do with them.”
Levi looked up at Erwin, noticing a minuscule flicker of worry in his eyes. “My bet... is using an Agni Kai versus Hange as public display to destroy anymore hopes of internal rebellion.”
The other three furrowed their eyebrows at this, gritting their teeth in anger.
“And... killing the last firebending Zoe would be the ultimate symbol of crushing any hope that may be left.”
Levi stood up and looked out into the horizon, in the direction Zeke and Kenny escaped the night before. He had a good idea of where they might be, but the exact coordinates of that base was kept hidden from everyone except for high ranking officials. However, knowing Hange, he had utmost confidence that she marked a way for them to find her. They'd just have to figure that out—and soon.
Levi balled his hands into tight fists and fierce determination flickered in his eyes.
“Well, we’re not gonna let her face Zeke alone, are we?” he whispered, not taking his eyes off the horizon.
--------
As Hange’s screams grew silent, Armin breathed a sad sigh of relief—either they stopped torturing her or she finally just passed out from the pain. Either way, she at least had some respite. He looked at the thick wooden bars of their cell, cross hatched like a solid net, trapping them inside. He could only assume that at least one guard was standing watch outside the metal door about 8 feet away from their cell—the only exit point in the room. How in the world were they supposed to get out of this mess? And more importantly, why were they targeting Hange? Where were the rest of the Scouts, anyway?
He turned back towards Moblit, “Hey so... what happened? How did you get captured?”
Moblit used his sleeves to wipe at his tears, revealing his swollen eyes, filled with a terrifying swirl of anger and hopelessness. “They ambushed us, Zeke and Kenny. They set everything on fire and we didn’t stand a chance—and they told us...” He looked down, tangling his fingers in his hair anxiously, like he was trying to pry the memories out from his mind.
“Told you what?”
“That Levi led them to us, and...that he was a firebender and... that he’s Kenny’s nephew.”
Sasha and Armin’s jaws dropped at the news, and Jean looked away, as he knew Levi’s secret. He wrestled with the possibility that he might have made a mistake in trusting him. “No... there’s no way I made the wrong call,” he thought.
“I’m not sure if I believe it, though. Hange was very adamant that we should trust Levi.” Happy memories of his relationship with Levi came rushing relentlessly into his head. “No, I don’t think we should stop trusting Levi.” He paused. “After that, the next thing I knew, I woke up restrained on the komodo rhino, and then saw all of you.”
“Moblit, why did they only take you, and no one else?” Sasha asked.
“Well Hange and Levi were in Ba Sing Se that night. And I think they were just using me as bait.”
“But why not any of the others, why just you?” Armin asked. “It doesn’t make any sense. Couldn’t they have just taken Erwin since he leads the Scouts?”
Moblit sighed. “I guess I better just fess up and explain everything, right? All of this would be easier if we were just on the same page.”
He fished a small, metal keychain from his pocket, a fire nation emblem etched into it, matching the one stitched into the red tapestry behind him. He held it up for them to see.
--------
A dull pain ached against the left side of Hange’s face, the skin around her eye throbbing alongside her steady heartbeat. She felt a warm hand pressing a dressing over her left eye, and saw strands of black hair hanging over her. She blinked her right eye, confused as to why she wasn’t still in the barn back home, laying in the hay next to Erwin and Kuchel.
“K-Kuchel?” Hange croaked.
She was answered with a soft whisper, “No, I’m sorry, I’m not Kuchel. My name is Pieck.”
“Oh…” Hange sighed, wishing she could return to dreamland, back to her old, yet comforting memories.
A harsh, gruff voice sounded from the dark corner of the room, “Kuchel’s been long gone, dearie.” From the shadows, Kenny stepped out into the light next to Pieck. “My dumb sister died saving some stupid kid a long time ago.” He peered down at Hange and scoffed. “Didn’t think she’d go that way, to be honest. I thought she’d at least have gone doing the pathetic work your parents and her other friends got into.”
“…Sister?”
“Yeah, my dumb old sister. What, the genius Hange Zoe hadn’t figure it out yet?”
“Sister… then… you’re Levi’s uncle??”
He let out a chilling laugh and began clapping—pathetic applause at her realization. Kenny stepped closer and bent down, staring right into Hange’s face. “Zeke told Porco to do much worse than what he ended up doing to you. You’re lucky I happened to walk in and stop him—what kind of self-respecting uncle would let his wonderful nephew’s girlfriend suffer right in front of him?”
Hange felt her brain short-circuit at his comment. “Oh I know how my nephew works, I saw how he looked at you after your cute little group took down that fire nation camp in the forest. All of you trying to be like your parents—their work was pathetic and so are you.”
Hange tried to make sense of everything and it was difficult to concentrate against the throbbing pain in her eye, but she quickly focused on the situation at hand—no need to show him weakness at anything he decided to say to her. She wasn't sure if she could trust him, though his tone seemed genuine underneath the rough exterior. She laughed to herself--she knew how to read and communicate with Ackermans.
“Their work wasn’t stupid, you pathetic old man,” Hange retorted.
Kenny laughed. “I told my sister not to get into that business. World’s gone to shit anyway, why not just live for yourself at this point?”
Hange began seething at this response. The only reason why she didn’t burst out flames at Kenny was because she was completely disoriented to her surroundings. Sadly, she figured she’d kiss her left-sided vision goodbye. Plus, she didn’t want to injure the girl next to her, as she was clearly very kind, tending to enemy’s wounds. “Maybe if you actually joined your sister back then, you could have helped them!”
“Well maybe if they all just gave that up, none of them wouldn’t have died and left you all as orphans. Have you ever thought of that?”
She stared back at him and spat as she spoke, “Well if you’re arrogant ass is ‘living for himself’ then why the hell do you care about that, and why would you decide to lay your loyalty to Zeke?” Kenny stepped away to make sure no one was within hearing range in the corridor. He walked quickly back towards Hange and leaned down close to her face.
“Listen here, little girl. My loyalty is to no one but myself. Zeke is simply offering the best deal I’ve gotten over last few years—we’re protected among his crew, plus the money’s good. And don’t get all disrespectful now, you’re lucky I didn’t let Porco take out that other eye of yours!”
“Or maybe you did it to keep Levi safe too, you DO care about him don’t you?” Hange teased.
Kenny scowled and grumbled at her comment—Hange stifled laughter as she now knew where Levi got it from.
“You’re delusional, Zoe. You’re just like your parents.” He turned around and slammed the door behind him—the metal reverberating around the walls of the room, the force causing her sensitive eye to throb again. Hange winced in pain.
Pieck held a cold compress to Hange’s face, and she sighed in relief. “Thank you,” Hange breathed out.
“Of course.”
Hange looked curiously at Pieck—“So, why are you helping me, anyway?”
Pieck answered softly, “Hange, I know what Zeke wants to do with you. But I don’t want him to go through with it.”
Hange held back the fear in her heart. She abandoned her curiosity at Zeke's plans with herself for a second--she needed to clear up other information with Pieck first.
“Why?”
“We’ve been friends since we were kids, and… I think he’s truly lost himself. This isn’t him, and it hasn’t been him in a long time. A lot has happened, Hange, and I think you’re just unfortunately stuck in the midst of it." She peeked out the doorway for any listening ears, and sat back down, whispering to Hange.
"There are guards everywhere though, and I can’t just let you out, plus your friends are still trapped somewhere in the building, and I don’t know exactly where. All I know, is that we have a decent amount of time before Zeke returns. In the meantime, rest.”
Hange breathed a sigh of relief—she was ridiculously lucky, she thought. Her mind scrambled to put together all the information she’s gathered and started on mustering up a plan to get everyone out of here safely. But one thing was really bothering her—was being friends with Zeke enough for this girl to help her, a Zoe, a target of the fire nation? There had to be something else--could it be?
“Pieck, can I ask you one more thing?”
She nodded, inviting her to continue.
Hange nodded back, “Is there any more reason why you’re trying to help me?”
Pieck smiled—Hange was just as sharp as the rumors told. She reached into her pocket and held out a luck charm, identical to everyone else’s, the fire nation emblem shining brightly back at Hange. Hange closed her eye and laughed, feeling nothing but hope and happiness. She wondered if Levi felt the same way at this same moment--after all the events of the past few hours, she thought it'd be quite likely that Levi, Erwin, Nanaba, and Mike were likely revealing their charms to each other right around now. It was about time.
