Sims In Bloom: Generation 2 Pt. 145 (A Promotion and The Updated Salty Paw!)

Newlywed life for Heather and Conrad was just as blissful as life before their marriage - with an added dose of steam from Heather's pregnancy libido! Despite this, she made sure to get plenty of rest throughout her first trimester, as the family settled into life preparing for baby number three.

Conrad's work solving the murder of the Brindletons and putting Ximena behind bars had impressed the chief, and she called him into her office one afternoon at the precinct.

"I just got a call from San Myshuno, lieutenant. Ximena's trial just finished, and the judge handed her a forty-year sentence. I know how difficult this case was, and how personal, but you never let the department down."

"I just want to keep everyone safe," he said humbly.

"I saw the verified documents from the Brindletons' safe deposit box. If I didn't know you were just that kind of guy, I'd assume it really was fate you showed up in your ancestors' town to serve and protect when we needed you most."

"I'm not a hero, chief."

She laughed. "No, not a hero, but we need a strong captain like you to keep this place going. It'll mean more time talking to the press. I know you don't love being front and centre, but if you handle most reporters like you do Malcolm Landgraab and Simlandia National, you'll do great. Do you think you're ready to take on the responsibility, captain?"

Conrad nodded. "Of course, chief. I'd be honoured."

Captain Conrad Gordon met his wife at home that night to announce his promotion, and they headed down to Fisherman's Wharf for dinner with Suri and Hazel at the slightly-improved Salty Paw.

The rebrand so far involved slightly changing up the interior, adding an espresso bar at the take-out window, and fixing up the upstairs apartment.

"It's really not much, but I want to slowly change more over time," explained Suri. She didn't want the place to seem unrecognizable to locals until The Salty Paw (she'd officially dropped the 'Saloon') built up its own loyal patrons.

Heather and Conrad viewed the updated interior with a smile, content their investment had gone to good use. "It's eclectic right now, with some old and some new. We might not keep the updates and eventually just go all out to redecorate, but we want to keep the dockside vibe and we have to make sure the place is profitable first," explained Suri. "And the whole reason I fell in love with the Salty Paw is the takeaway window and open air kitchen, which I never want to lose. It's always busy when I'm brewing at the espresso bar!"

After dinner, they left the bartender to manage the floor, taking Hazel's family upstairs to check out the studio apartment. They hung out, chatting about little things and enjoying each other's company, until Lavender mentioned the thing she wasn't supposed to talk about.

"We can watch Dating Deanna on the TV!" She looked at her parents expectantly as the room grew quiet. Lavender cocked her head in confusion. "What I said?"

"You guys are watching that? Aren't dating shows not really for four-year-olds?"

Heather shrugged. "She barely knows what's going on and thinks the girls are pretty. She doesn't even remember Nicola at this point, but she knows Conrad and I filmed a bit with Shelley's Animal Haven for a future episode, and she's excited about it."

"What does it matter if people watch the show?" Suri asked. "My grandmother said everyone in Henford's tuning in to see how well Ms. Moody-McMillan represents their town."

"She did okay," said Ash, matter-of-factly, without realizing Hazel maybe didn't want to know. "She's not outgoing like some of the other girls, but Deanna has a crush on her!"

Hazel sighed. "I'm sorry, I really don't care that it's on, but sometimes I wish the show had cast someone else's ex-wife," she said. "I know that's my problem, not hers. I'm happy for Nic, and I hope she falls in love. Really!"

Lavender looked between the grownups while her mother added an adblocker to Hazel and Suri's computer.

(It'd be nice if sims just hopped on computers when visiting other sims' homes a lot less!)

WCIF: Heather and Gord are asleep on the sofa with @simmerberlin's Large Dog poses, and I love this one so much!

NOTE: Curse Lovestruck's relationship system! Heather being pregnant and horny made their wholesome dynamic flip to steamy and I accepted it, but that was such a mistake! They became very unsatisfied very quickly because that's not their usual vibe, and their relationship was red, not pink, in actual seconds. I couldn't do anything to fix it and honestly gave up trying very quickly! I hated it so much I cheated them back to wholesome and now they're both very satisfied again, but there was no reason for that about face, it's not canon, and I didn't have time to bring it back to normal without a cheat. No regrets whatsoever.

NOTE 2: Above is the new upstairs floorplan, and the screenshot below gives a basic idea of the change in layout to the second floor. I'm using @littlemssam's Live-In Business mod to designate their private apartment, which they can invite friends and family into but patrons stay out. The mod may become obsolete after the next expansion, but I'm holding off on getting the next pack right away for fear it could be glitchy, so I'll keep using the mod it until it breaks, probably.

Due to lack of space they don't have their own bathroom, and you might notice they currently have no shower. I will fix this, but for now I never play their household long enough for their hygiene to drop too low. And the espresso bar is placed with moveobjects on because I need that takeaway window. It's the heart of the whole lot!

As for the restaurant interior on the main floor, I don't adore it but it's a big space I have little patience to work in. So if anyone likes designing restaurant lots in this game and wants to be Suri and Hazel's interior designer, hit me up lol! I'm really not kidding.

This story starts on Instagram and is composed for its limitations: the frame size and number of images. I always enjoy seeing it reposted here because of how it cascades together but this one feels really chaotic, maybe too much. ::shrug::

Most of Henford turns out for the party (with some notable exceptions)! Antonia knows the women through the co-op, and there are other connections. We see: • Jessica Parsnip (she’s my creation and founder of the women’s art co-op in Finchwick.) • Sara Scott, owner of the Gnome’s Arms pub, and longtime friend • Ian Moody and Derek McMillan: neighbors and longtime acquaintances; we saw a young Ian when Antonia told Noe about Aunt Augie in the first flashback • Then finally: Simon Scott and the Scott twins, Dina and Sloane. (The game named them.) My fam is obsessed with the babies! How could you not be? • Agatha Crumplebottom and Cecilia Kang, from the co-op. Agatha may have been teasing about inviting Agnes; she knows her cousin’s reputation and temperament. Agnes won’t let Agatha keep her dirty (Agnes’s word) pottery wheel in their house so she joined the co-op. • The Watson family: Thomas was in the pub when Antonia and Noe first officially met so there’s a long if casual acquaintance, and Rahmi is in the co-op. • Mayor Lavina Chopra and Rahul: Lavina is in the co-op

Joan asks Maira Watson why she doesn’t see her at school and Maira says she goes to school in Finchwick. In my sim world, every town has their own elementary school (we want to make things easy on the littles) but the high schools are larger and more consolidated. Axl probably went to the Finchwick school but since he went to Copperdale for high school, Antonia and Noe decided to put the littles into the elementary school there. I’ve put Copperdale outside of Britechester so the area is sort of an education center. There’s a high school in Windenburg that would be next closest, but even some of the kids there make the trip to Copperdale because of its state-of-the-art reputation.

Antonia borrowed extra tables and chairs from the Finchwick village hall and she decorated like crazy.

The day after Sara and Simon returned home, something was amiss at the Moody-McMillan home. The upstairs was oddly warm and there was a strange noise and the smell of smoke. Somehow, a fire had broken out in dusty unused space inside the roof.

Derek was cleaning the upstairs bathroom when he realized what was happening. He hurried downstairs to tell Ian.

"The roof is on fire!" he shouted.

"What?" Ian was in disbelief. How could the roof be on fire?

"We need to get out of here!" Derek yelled, picked up Celeste and escaped to safety outside.

Ian could not run away, however; because he did not want to abandon the house to burn. There wasn't an easy access to the roof, but despite his age he was able to pull himself up through the rafters into the unused space. There he discovered the fire, which was burning out of control.

Taking a fire extinguisher, he began to spray the fire. The flames were doused, but then, a second fire sprung up from seemingly nowhere. He had to calm himself and not panic. Staying calm, Ian was able to put out the last of the flames and house was saved.

That evening, he spent some time relaxing on the back porch. While he knitted, he began to think of a plan. They were getting older, and problems like the fire were a danger to everyone. What if Ian hadn't been able to get to the roof?

The next day was Harvest Fest. Celeste went out into the yard and played with the new baby chicks that hatched. Derek, who was an expert cook, baked a pumpkin pie then began to cook the grand meal. Despite never having issues before and his mastered skill, the stove caught on fire!

Ian hurried into the room and put out the flames. Luckily, Celeste was already safe outside. The stove was repaired and Derek began the meal again. Once more, the stove burst into flames a second time! Exhausted by so many fires, this time they called the fire department.

Once the fire was out, the fireman said, "These old stoves can be finicky. You need to be careful or a fire like this could end in tragedy."

Derek decided it was safer to have leftovers instead of the Grand Meal after that.

"I am so grateful for you," he told Ian later that night. "You've saved our family from fire three times in two days!"

"I am also grateful for you, and our family! But, I'm worried. It isn't like you to catch the stove on fire, and also maintaining this old house is getting more difficult. Maybe we aren't able to do this alone anymore, especially now that we have Celeste."

"What are you saying?" Derek asked.

"My sister Elizabeth has been living alone with her son Declan in San Myshuno for quite some time. They're having a hard time making ends meet. Maybe we could have them move in and help out around here. More hands for the farm, the house, and caring for Celeste."

Derek thought about it seriously but knew Ian was right. They were getting older and it might not be long before one or both of them met the Grim Reaper. It was getting harder to maintain the farm, as well.

"All right, let's invite them."

A dedicated thread to the ways the world has unleashed their hate onto Grandma

I don't know if I ever talked about wanting to rant about how much my sim Grandma Helen has just been constantly hated on by literally everyone, but I definitely mentioned it once or more in a Discord server. So here's a whole masterlist of every single instance Grandma has just been plain screwed over.

How I think it all started:

For context, this happened in an old save file (not the one I'm playing in currently). I created this sim named Grandma Helen solely because I just wanted a cute little old lady to live in Henford-On-Bagley and spend her days gardening, taking care of animals, and helping out her neighbors. While looking for a place for her to live, I found a home from the gallery and decided to place it on the lot where the Moody and McMillan family (whom I affectionately refer to as the 'old gays') live. I evicted them, demolished their home, and placed the gallery home where Grandma would move in.

Of course two old men who probably worked hard to buy their hom would be rightfully pissed over randomly losing it because an old lady wanted to live on their lot, right?

And now, everything that has happened to Grandma, in chronological order (this post will be updated as things happen!!):

Got (probably) scammed when I tried to place down several homes I found in the gallery for her as they seemed to be smaller than the intended lot size.

Ian Moody (one of the old gays) raided her fridge when she invited him and his husband in her home just because she wanted to be nice when they came by as part of the Welcome Wagon. He also used her computer without asking her.

Tried to talk to a wild rabbit (she has a rabbit home on her lot) only for a negative relationship symbol to pop up along with a speech bubble with a poop picture. Literally called Grandma a piece of shit.

A random townie seemed to be walking in her direction while she was ice skating (as if he was going to go skating with her), but he literally turned around and walked the other way the second he made it to the entrance of the ice rink.

Also at that same skating rink, Grandma freaking fell over (and probably got a concussion). Granted, she did have a low skating skill.

While talking with Agatha Crumplebottom (Agnes Crumplebottom's cousin), Lavina Chopra (Henford-On-Bagley's mayor) showed up and forced Grandma out of the seat she'd been sitting in so she could join their conversation.

The first time Grandma met Agnes Crumplebottom herself, she got yelled at by Agnes the second she found out she had the hot-headed trait.

Got rejected by a different wild rabbit when she tried to pet it.

Yet another rabbit gave her a thumbs down when she talked to it.

Got told she basically has bad skill issue by Agnes on Social Bunny.

Was asked by Kim Goldbloom (who was one of her friends and had good compatibility with her) if she wanted to commit crimes for a living because apparently, everyone just basically hates her. She rejected, of course.

Got basically fat-shamed by Agnes.

Agnes kicked over her trash can when she invited her to her home.

Had a wild fox (her home has the wild foxes lot challenge) break into her home and kill one of the wild rabbits she literally just befriended.

The cats don't seem to mind, though.

Got told by Agnes that no one likes her Social Bunny posts.

Had Agnes kick over her trash can AGAIN (but she was nice enough to pick it back up).

Had a fire start in her home because she had a rug in front of a fireplace while it was running.

Got told (threatened?) by Agnes on Social Bunny that she would bully her.

Went to the Creature Keeper's home to see if she could complete an errand that tasked her with delivering a rose to him, only to find out he wasn't home.

Dating Deanna Entry: Nicola Moody-McMillan for @changingplumbob

Hey everyone! I've never done anything like this before so I don't know exactly how to introduce myself. But I'm a schoolteacher in Henford-on-Bagley, the same small town where I was born and raised.

I'm currently living in my childhood home in the Bramblewood with my mother, Kim, and my younger brother, Dominic. Our relationship is pretty good even though my mom can be a bit of a problem at parties, but I'm a family-oriented sim! My mother and brother mean the world to me, and we've been especially close since my dad passed away not that long ago.

Apart from my job, which I love, I like doing Henford things - offering favours to people in need, cross-stitching, gardening, and talking to birds! I haven't really travelled much, but I'm ready to get out of my comfort zone!

I think. I really love comfort, and I've heard these bachelor shows can get a little wild. My friends said not to worry about my manicure - but honestly, I'll probably always worry about my manicure.

The big elephant in the room is my marital status - divorced. At 24! I married my high school sweetheart but she turned out to be less sweetheart, more heartless...sorry, that's a boring story! We grew apart.

Some days it feels like we divorced just yesterday. But some time has passed, I really believe in counseling, and I'm ready to try dating for, really, the first time in my life. That's kind of embarrassing to say out loud!

My friends said don't be negative. But some days can feel like the worst day ever, you know? Maybe you don't know. I don't know. I'm not always great at first impressions and I can be a little high maintenance, but I'm excited about this experience!

I can't wait to meet Deanna. Joey can flirt with me if he wants, but I'm a high maintenance lesbian who wants a family, so he'd be wasting a good line on the wrong gal! Even though I can be a pretty competitive teacher on School Sports Days, I'm really looking forward to getting to know the other contestants, too. People who don't know Hazel. Who isn't important.

Nicola Kimberly Moody-McMillan (she/her), daughter of Henford townie Kim Goldbloom, and granddaughter of townies Ian McMillan and Derek Moody, who adopted Kim. Nicola's father was a very blond randomly-generated sim named Eddie Harmon (RIP!). She has a younger brother named Dominic.

She's grown up from a wee sprite in my Sims In Bloom legacy challenge as a best friend and then girlfriend/later wife of my Gen 2 heir's little sister (until it all fell apart).

Nicola is a cis lesbian who is exclusively attracted to women, both romantically and sexually. She is a monogamous sim, but Henford is a small town. Whether her interests include non-binary or trans women remains to be discovered, actually.

Righty! We’re entering into a new household this time! The Moody & McMillan household!

We got old gays with conflicting personalities and a GOAL. Well a goal for me at least. The goal is to make friends with at least one of these guys so I can pass the house along when they die! These two old men don’t have any children of their own, which nice and all, but the Sims 4 is implicity all about creating a linage to pass down homes as dying alone gives you a game over state. That being said, I haven’t ever objected to just giving a home to someone the elderly sim has a high relationship with. That’s how Cameron Fletcher slid into my played families! And it doesn’t need to be given away soon, just near the end of their lifespans.

I will also make note that the home lot for this family was designed by HeyHarrie! I’ll likely give my thoughts on the build at the end of the turn with the household, as it does give me enough time to determine whether or not I, as someone who doesn’t build much myself but plays extensively within a build, like it.

Right, that’s enough preamble, let’s play!

Breakfast time and this is the first time I can show off the new cooking layout! Alongside the kitchen stuff pack release, we got a rebalancing of the cooking menu with subfolders! Now personally, I wish for qualifications on breakfast, lunch and dinner foods but I’ll take the dietary restrictions.

Derek McMillan is a skilled chef, Ian Moody isn’t so we’re having him cook. We also have a chicken coop around so I purchase two hens and one rooster. ...oh and both Derek and Ian have a fear of dying. I’m gonna have them talk to each other about that to clear that off. Or at least Ian will since the want to clear that fear is on him.

-snicker- Remember that Neighborhood Watch about Ian becoming a Superstar actor and retiring from it? Well, it seems that it didn’t matter much to him as he’s getting no retirement pay from it! Which fine by me, but that’ll just be amusing when I see it pop up.

Anyway, Ian’s who we loaded into so let’s look at his whims. A drink of nectar as a foodie and to call someone. ...he literally has no one to call as his only social contact is Derek and the new chickens. Let’s get to work on that! Meanwhile, Derek has much calmer whims, listening to Baroque and Classical music. Welp, might as well! First purchase in this house! A stereo!

OH MY GOD. Birds are flying around Ian as he sings his beautiful music. That was a thing in Cottage Living’s trailer but never noticed how you got that. DISNEY PRINCE!

Hey Rahami Watson! Don’t leave! I want to make friends with- and there she goes. Alas and alack. Welp, at least I can fullfill the whim.

Also, gotta say, the sunsnow around here is super-pretty! Not like the British weather I’ve experienced at all. (Then again, this pack is all about an idealized British countryside life)

Let’s see...using a bar in the Cotswolds as a reference, thanks Google Maps, I won’t have Ian go off for his nectar until noon. That leaves me with Derek and his tunes and ohp! Both are sleepy! And both are retired so they can sleep and rise whenever they wish!

I hear a negative sting in the game and we have lost a chicken AND a fox has an egg! Le gasp! I haven’t had to deal with the Wild Foxes negative lot trait in a long while, as it’s only in Henford! Our chickens need protecting! That being said, Ian doesn’t hate foxes. On the contrary, I think he actually is rather fond of them. So instead of shooing this fox, we’re going to befriend him! ...or all of the foxes around could head off. Sure fine! And it means are chickens are safe for now. To bed with Derek!

Ian is first up! His whims, still nectar and to listen to Electronic music! ...well he’s hungry so lets finally head to the bar! Compared to many other bars in game, which just have the basic food options Get Together introduces, Henford-on-Bagley does have some expanded food options! Mostly from the person who built this bar, and perhaps their own research, pointing out that many British pubs do serve as restaurants as well as bars, in contrast to the US, which most bars just have drinks and paltry food selections.

Anyway, let’s introduce ourself to the barkeep and check in on her errands! Several NPCs within Henford-on-Bagley do have small quests you can do for them. A Friendly Visit would work well with Ian’s wants and whims so let’s pick that up! What we are to do is to talk to the other Henford-on-Bagley major NPCs! They’ll pop up around the square but it’s in the evening so that won’t work out. Anyway, Ian’s aspiration is to become a Friend of the World so let’s go and chat and befriend Sara while we’re at it! This old man is certainly taking his time befriending Sara. Going to have to run around the socials so many times around. Making it worse is that I have to manually pick the socials rather than just relying on what pops up first since she’s a bartender and so it buries the socials under the menus rather than just popping them up naturally. Finally befriended her around 2AM. Now we can head home and listen to our favorite tunes...which incidentally, aren’t Sara’s favorite tunes. I would argue about that but I want them to be better friends first so it doesn’t ruin their relationship.

Derek’s whims didn’t refresh since I left mid-sleep but that works out fine by me. He wants to start writing a new book thanks to his best-selling author aspiration. That we can get to work on now! (Also would make some nice passive income in our retirement)

-sighs as Ian gets a Social Bunny notification- He would have Facebook, wouldn’t he? Ian’s a bit too social not to. I got a notification of foxes and NOPE! Let’s have Derek go pester them! ...and it’s 5AM already. Wow. Can’t believe it’s time for-
