could be completely wrong but:
what if we saw the queen of the night from die zauberflöte in kind of the same way as vitellia from la clemenza di tito—two powerful women who have been (or at least feel) slighted by male-dominated power dynamics and, while they genuinely love the people they’re trying to manipulate (pamina and sesto respectively) brutally manipulate them anyway?
the differences, of course, being that they’re working in/against different structures with different rulers (sarastro and tito respectively, and we all know they’re very different), and of course that the queen of the night never gets the redemptive moment/heel-face that vitellia does
#hmm. maybe?#opera tag#opera#la clemenza di tito#the mercy of titus#die zauberflöte#the magic flute#mozart#wolfgang amadeus mozart#source: trust me bro#i guess

“Remind the people to be subject to rulers and authorities, to be obedient, to be ready to do whatever is good, to slander no one, to be peaceable and considerate, and always to be gentle toward everyone.
At one time we too were foolish, disobedient, deceived and enslaved by all kinds of passions and pleasures. We lived in malice and envy, being hated and hating one another.
But when the kindness and love of God our Savior appeared, he saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit, whom he poured out on us generously through Jesus Christ our Savior, so that, having been justified by his grace, we might become heirs having the hope of eternal life.”
- Titus 3:1-7 NIV

Remind them to be subject to rulers and authorities, to be obedient, to be ready for every good work, to speak evil of no one, to avoid quarreling, to be gentle, and to show every courtesy to everyone. For we ourselves were once foolish, disobedient, led astray, slaves to various passions and pleasures, passing our days in malice and envy, despicable, hating one another. But when the goodness and loving kindness of God our Savior appeared, he saved us, not because of any works of righteousness that we had done, but according to his mercy, through the water of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit. This Spirit he poured out on us richly through Jesus Christ our Savior, so that, having been justified by his grace, we might become heirs according to the hope of eternal life. The saying is sure. I desire that you insist on these things, so that those who have come to believe in God may be careful to devote themselves to good works; these things are excellent and profitable to everyone. But avoid stupid controversies, genealogies, dissensions, and quarrels about the law, for they are unprofitable and worthless. After a first and second admonition, have nothing more to do with anyone who causes divisions, since you know that such a person is perverted and sinful, being self-condemned. When I send Artemas to you, or Tychicus, do your best to come to me at Nicopolis, for I have decided to spend the winter there. Make every effort to send Zenas the lawyer and Apollos on their way, and see that they lack nothing. And let people learn to devote themselves to good works in order to meet urgent needs, so that they may not be unproductive. All who are with me send greetings to you. Greet those who love us in the faith. Grace be with all of you.

Be Ready for Every Good Work
1 Put them in mind to be subject to principalities and powers, to obey magistrates, to be ready to every good work, 2 to speak evil of no man, to be no brawlers, but gentle, shewing all meekness unto all men. 3 For we ourselves also were sometimes foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving divers lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful, and hating one another. 4 But after that the kindness and love of God our Saviour toward man appeared, 5 not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost; 6 which he shed on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Saviour; 7 that being justified by his grace, we should be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life. 8 This is a faithful saying, and these things I will that thou affirm constantly, that they which have believed in God might be careful to maintain good works. These things are good and profitable unto men. 9 But avoid foolish questions, and genealogies, and contentions, and strivings about the law; for they are unprofitable and vain. 10 A man that is an heretick after the first and second admonition reject; 11 knowing that he that is such is subverted, and sinneth, being condemned of himself.
12 When I shall send Artemas unto thee, or Tychicus, be diligent to come unto me to Nicopolis: for I have determined there to winter. 13 Bring Zenas the lawyer and Apollos on their journey diligently, that nothing be wanting unto them. 14 And let ours also learn to maintain good works for necessary uses, that they be not unfruitful.
15 All that are with me salute thee. Greet them that love us in the faith.
Grace be with you all. Amen. — Titus 3 | Authorized King James Version (AKJV) The Holy Bible: Authorized King James Version; Cambridge University Press, the Crown’s patentee in the UK. MOM FIRST: Mr Man is 32 and still kisses his mom on the lips (nigerian movie recap)
Allen has a weird relationship with his mother, Mum. She still treats him like a toddler and kisses him on the lips. She also rubs lotion on his body after he takes his bath. They even eat from the same plate despite him having a fiancee, Naomi who lives with them in the same house. Naomi, his fiancee, thinks that his mother is his sugar mama. I don’t blame her. Titus: WHAT are you!!!!!
Celor, actively sobbing: an accountant?
#Cruddy rambles#H2O au#OC shit#I love this idiot#This side plot has consumed me rn. Idk why. But it's what my brain is fixated on writing atm#Because. Titus having a secret identity getting mad at Celor for having a secret is SO funny to me#Like bro you. You are literally infiltrating the kingsglaive in order to feed info to the imperials. You are a GENERAL in the imperial army#But no get mad at the guy who does the citadel tax work because he's awkward and trips over himself all the time#Titus: kills an imperial defector who was sneaking clone babies into insomnia so they might live normal lives not being sacrificed#Also Titus: Celor you are a FREAK OF NATURE and deserve to be stabbed for your CRIMES#Celor [looking up from his paperwork]: wh-#Clarus: mmmm yeah Drautos is just on edge bc of the war and his home being taken by the imperials. Also Regis trusts him soooo#Meanwhile Drautos is getting fitted for his terrifying magitek armor and preparing to cut regis's hands off to get the ring#He also kills Celor just straight up stabs him during the fall of insomnia. Kinda like Clarus.#Celor bleeding out and watching fire consume his life's work: well. This... sucks. [fucking dies]#And to be clear Celor dying in this case is the Good Ending because I wrote out a Celor lives au but it's. Horrifying.#I should be nicer to him but the reality is his character would not run from the citadel during the attack even if I want him to#He would stay and try to help even if he's not a good fighter. That's just the kinda dude he is. So a Celor lives au means...#Well basically Drautos lets him live in order to take him back to Gralea and Verstael. Which. Uh oh. *Uh oh*.#So yeah. Option 1 is... Mercy.#Theoretically I could write an au where Cor drags him out of insomnia against his will but. Tbh I really just don't think Celor would let#That happen. Cor would literally have to either knock him out or tie him up which just. Isn't viable or reasonable. It wouldn't make sense#So yeah. He dies.#The Celor lives au is also a Drautos lives au. Which is also bad for Most of everybody including nyx. Like yeahhh Dude dies anyway but...

INSOUKE!READER WITH BATFAM
Other work of inosuke!reader
Being a menace to society and the woods make the batboys shake in their boots.
Literally dick catches you in the weirdest positions ever. It’s unreal when you twist your body like a pretzel and all you say is, “it don’t hurt! :D”
Dick was so close to calling Alfred to come untwist your body before you did it yourself. Molding your body like play-doh. He stays up at night thinking if you are real or not…
Jason, tried to shot you so you cannot try to attack him. Failed when you wrapped your whole body around his oddly and got him in a thigh chokehold. You smiled with sparkles emit from your body. Jason grumbled with a feral look, swinging his arms to try and hit you. But he couldn’t as you then lifted your legs flipped your body upside up. Smiling in victory as you just stood there idiotically.
Tim, he isn’t phased much by you. Something by his relax and crazed obsession for coffee made you just stand there like “oh! He likes this wild drink, I must drink it!” Which you did. You enjoyed it, if only you didn’t get knocked out by it fully. Tim just sits there at his desktop, watching the boar head snor loudly. Arms and legs sprawled out, he couldn’t help but chuckles liking the crazed and weird person.
Damian, hates the boar head. But tolerates it by its way of nature towards animal. You had saved a baby bird from falling off a tree branch. Literally sliding in the ground like a baseball player and catching the ball. You got up with a shiny aura, happy to help the poor bird as you climbed the tree with ease and joined its mother to it.
Damian watched amused as Titus wagged his tail at you. Barking and going at you, you jumped off the tree and pet the dog. “Come titan! Come!” You laugh as Titus ran up and pounced on you playfully. You laid down in the grass, Titus now calmed down sat perfectly still by you. Damian walked up to you with a small scowl upon his tanned face.
“His name is Titus you imbecile..” he says with a soft scoff, sitting by you as you took off your boar head. Your face shined beautifully with the sun. How can a crazy person like you have such a goddesses face but a god body mixed together. You were surreal to him.. a mystery.
And lastly Bruce…Bruce is just with it with Your shenanigans. Running on your hands as you laugh that crazy laugh. Having a boar head on you as you are half naked.
He could try to make you not follow him when he’s Batman and is going his daily patrols. But when you show up and immediately tackle a criminal to the floor. Breaking down a WWE move on them, he just stands there as the criminal begs for mercy.
How the hell did you even get adopted by the Batman?

What kind of cat hybrid reader are we talking about here? The affectionate gremlin kind or the affectionate sweet kind? Either way, I think Titits would like it
For Titus' cat hybrid darling I like to think he spoils them enough that they're a sweet little angel, but still a little catty at times and probably apprehensive around anyone but him. Freaks tf out if a guard is assigned to them while he has business to take of which he'd never do, but it's still adorable-
-
Titus, interrogating a guard: So I hear there have been discussions of treason and you are the snake who started it. Fortunately for you, I am a merciful ruler. Remove all of your teeth and nails, and I will I forgive you. You don't have long to decide as I must leave before-
[Soft scratches at the door]
Titus: Heavens- [opens the door and sees a half-asleep, teary eyed cat hybrid reader - heart melting at the sadness in their eyes] Dearest, what are you doing out of bed?
Cat hybrid Reader: I woke up you and you were gone...
Titus, picking them up: Oh, sweetheart- You know I'd never leave you. I just didn't want to scare you or get your pretty fur stained. How about this? Cover your eyes during, and you can join for all the executions I have to carry out today

in the ep where Lucy retains her decency while embracing her grit ("Golden Rule, motherfucker"), Cooper is reminded with deep shame of the moment he lost his - filming the scene of shooting a man who was down and begging. like he was (well, down but not begging lol) when Lucy showed him mercy.
and that scene--the betrayal of everything cooper felt was sincere in the pop culture art he made--was Hank's favorite... he's an empty man, a soulless creature of the corporation, and knows no shame for hurting people who can't fight back
the whole show is imo about what it MEANS to be a knight or a cowboy - what does it mean to hold power and believe it's for good reasons, but at the end of the day it's still *power*
that's why it's important to me that "Golden Rule, motherfucker" is not "i'm too Soft and Gentle to hurt anyone uwu!" it's "when I have the power, I use it according to MY ETHICS, bitch!" it's a complete victory rather than the "victory" of surrendering to the logic and behavior Cooper kept trying to push her into. it's about the nature of power and what is possible with it.
which brings me to Max. he, like Lucy, wants power and to do good things with it. but what does that mean? power is fun (his joy at escaping Titus and the imo very real threat of torture and death - his joy at the power armor), but, though he started to enjoy bullying the guy who had bullied him - then the guy showed throat and Max realized how not fun it is to have absolute control over someone like that, sadism isn't actually his bag like it was for Titus. and he's very unenthused about his rise in rank at the end... the Brotherhood chapter you meet in Fallout 3 are led by okay people - it's not impossible for that to happen. but will Max be able to manage it w/ people like the head scribe leaning on him? will Dane help or hinder Max in trying to have both power & decency?
what will it mean--given they've symbolically EXCHANGED FINGERS & become part of each other--for Lucy to relate to her shadow & Cooper to remember his decency? them on the road and Max & Dane trying to make things work with the Brotherhood is gonna be FASCINATING
all three leads are each struggling with the same thematic questions about power and whether you can be a "good guy" with it - an honorable cowboy, a noble knight, or if the world (& organizations you're part of) must strip that away from you - and i LOVE it
