Dyed my hair back to its 'natural' dark brown because I got sick of having highlighter pink hair. Especially after my mother-in-law thought it was So Neat she came over and ran her hands through my hair for a good ten seconds and I narrowly avoided a sudden onset meltdown rofl.

You officially get married in private, with only Lydia, the Deetzs and the Maitlands there. You take it easy so he can adjust to being alive, but Delia still throws a pretty fun party- if a little...odd. Still, it's enough for Beetlejuice to learn his alcohol tolerance isn't NEARLY as high now that he has a heartbeat.

"Babes!! I cannot fuckin wait to get married to you all over again." He's half asleep, laying his entire weight on you, reeking of booze, smiling like a dope. "Uh-huh. Me too, Beej." You pat his back.

(Also, turns out now that he sleeps for real, he snores. you think its cute.)

Once he's human (and more or less used to it), you have a more traditional wedding with your friends and family all there, and throw an all night reception and after party at a bar - beej loves the energy and is cheering on your grandparents to throw ass on the dance floor all night

This goes over not great, but better than expected; everyone has a good time. You do too, of course. You are drunk and wearing white and laughing so loud, and when you aren't dancing, Beetlejuice can barely keep his hands off you. Hell, when you ARE dancing Beetlejuice can't keep his hands off you.

you go to Las Vegas for the honeymoon and get married again - Beej insists on the most tacky wedding possible and you agree.

You get married by an Elvis impersonater in a sticky little chapel on the strip. You wear a suit, and he wears a tight, short wedding dress with a veil and pumps.

"third time's the charm?" You ask, when Elvis finally says to kiss the groom. " Oh no, babes. We're hitting the drive through wedding chapel next."

"Deal!" And you dip him before kissing him square in the mouth.

You keep getting married to Beetlejuice, because you both want to make fucking SURE it sticks.

throwing my 2 cents into the ring here: i liked the maitlands enough that i was legit pissed they only got a throwaway line in beej beej as to why they weren't around. could afford to claymate the goddamn pedophile but couldn't spare a few bucks for like body doubles we only see the backs of for the maitlands? fuck off.

i definitely agree we saw too much of jeffrey jones' face which i've hated even before i even found out what he did (charles is also my least favorite character in the first movie by far) but charles' death is THE reason why the deetz women go back to winter river in the first place, and delia's whole arc is about mourning him and then reuniting with him, so his character (to my chagrin) was a lot more relevant to the plot than the maitlands could've been. this movie is ultimately about the deetz women, not the maitlands.

i mean no offense to you or anyone who feels this way, and i get being disappointed, but being disappointed is one thing and then there's being angry. i'm actually surprised that people are legitimately pissed that the maitlands aren't in the sequel. they couldn't have been, because ghosts don't age and the actors did (and unlike michael keaton, they won't look the same under layers of makeup and wigs.) alec baldwin has also been disgraced ever since the Rust incident, a lot of people seem to forget that.

the maitlands were also allowed to move on in the afterlife, which (unknowingly to lydia and the viewers at this point) introduced the soul train concept. yes, lydia's explanation felt like a weird handwave but the movie is self-aware about this having astrid sarcastically say "how convenient." this interaction also adds to her growing skepticism about her mother's ability to see ghosts, which is an important plot point, so it's not just a weak handwave explanation.

i also thought the cameo in the model was cute (i gasped and pointed at the screen when i saw it in theaters lol)

at the end of the day i think they did the best they could with what they had, without derailing the movie or piling even more stuff onto it (the movie is already PACKED with characters and subplots, all of which have a purpose and are essential)

so like i said, i'm a bit taken aback by people's angry reactions. me, personally. i don't understand the venom for these decisions.

Lisa Frankenstein / Beetlands AU! @bunnys-beetlejuice-blog

Originally, I thought of Lydia being Lisa, of course. She is a weird girl who befriends a strange undead creature. Perfect.

BUT I wanted to think of a fun Beetlands AU specifically, (also the romantic aspect would be gross when applied to her undead creature) so Lydia is instead perhaps a more gothy version of Taffy.

I had two ideas for this that I bounced around in my discord: Beej as the Creature, and Beej as Lisa.

With Beej as the Creature, Barbara would be Lisa, and Adam would be (as partially suggested by @ten-chocolate-sundaes thank you bestie) a best friend character type that goes along with Barb bc he has a crush on her, but eventually he falls for the Creature too. As Ezri said, Barbara deserves to go a little insane. I would love to see her go crazy in cute outfits. Barbara deserves a “coming of rage” story.

Characters would obviously be shifted around with Charles as Dale and Delia as Janet, although she’d probably be less abusive and more just eccentric and pushy. Beej as the Creature would kill her for what he perceives as a slight towards Barbara but was probably just her pushing way too hard on some sort of healing retreat or something that Barb really didn’t want to go on. Adam would get more involved after Otho or Maxie Dean as Doug gets killed, and Beej would be nonverbally suggesting a lot of the more crazy ideas (like murder and a wardrobe change), since I feel like it would take more of a push to get Barbara and Adam both to Lisa’s level of crazy (/affectionate).

HOWEVER. Beej as Lisa is so fuckin funny to me.

Same set up with the family, maybe with Juno instead of Delia as Janet?

Beej as a nerdy teen that becomes a melodramatic goth, in love with a reanimated couple who heard his heartfelt woes in the cemetery and decided to help him and soon realizes they’re both in love with him too? Phenomenal. 11/10. I’d kill to see him in that one flowy dress, yelling “THAT GOOD FOR NOTHING NOSY BITCH”!! And for Adam and Barbara to be willing to bash someone’s head and chop off a hand for being too mean to Beej.

The Maitlands I think fit the heart the Creature has a bit more, and it would be cute to think of them as doomed Victorian lovers who perhaps died on their wedding night or something like that. Corpse Bride style!

That’s all I have for now, I plan on rewatching the movie tomorrow to flesh it out haha

first, we have an unfinished sketch of beetlejuice, but if he was in lackadaisy, a wonderful webcomic by tracy butler! ( @lackadaisycats ) his lore is that he's lydia's very weird but loyal bodyguard. speaking of, next to it is lackadaisy lydia deetz! her outfit is directly based off of a real life 1920s teen girl dress, but with a gothic twist (the original dress was a bright yellow, which lydia would rather die than be caught in!). i based the coloring style after the initial animated lackadaisy design sheets (which you can find in the lackadaisy essentials book). lydia's lackadaisy lore is that she's the daughter of a very rich businessman (charles), yearning for a more exciting life, especially after the tragic death of her mother.

next, we have a cute lil sketch of my personal design of maria. i added a widdle baby shadow so maria wouldn't be lonely hehe. maria's outfit is directly inspired by 1970s feminine teen wear! i think she would slay in bell bottoms.

after that, we have a sketch of pink diamond with a couple personal twists. i gave her a small ruffle collar and added some extra fluff to her skirt thingy.

and then we have my oc gibson in the world of welcome home, a beautiful art project by clown! ( @partycoffin ) gibson is a rainbow monster. not sure what emily and the rest of the gang would be, but i can see lucian being a star like sally. i tried to mimic the ink concept art found on the welcome home website.

down below we have a sketch of my designs of adam and barbara maitland! i tried to give them a height difference, with adam being constructed of rectangular shapes and barbara of circular shapes. this does feel like them when they were a little younger (perhaps teens?), bc barbara's outfit feels rather 80s.
