In where Jason is Superman
Or, Jason ii
Well, turns out the creep making Piper uncomfortable was the monster. Could we have a sequence where Piper tries to hold him off? Nope. Instead we get the info that da coach is really bad at his job, and yet was watching two powerful kids. ‘Hey Gods, good to know your feelings on child safety have stayed consistent!’ Weren't things supposed to be getting better after that promise Percy had you made, the one he turned down immortality for?
How ungrateful.
Coach gives the club to Jason and goes off to save Leo, Jason promptly throws the club. May I interject to say, don't throw your weapon away in a fight. Piper grabs the club.
Jason uses more Roman terms for things. Ooh Foreshadowing. Piper, conveys her intent to have Jason be distraction bait, so she can brain the foe.
“Cute, smart and violent” Jason's turn ons, apparently.
Jason gets zapped in the chest, and promptly remembers how to kick ass.
Coach comes back for some pointless boasting,Piper successfully uses tackle, the storm spirit gets recalled, rather than drowned.
When Piper goes over the edge, Jason is told to steal Superman's gig, and go save her.
He does. He discovers he can command air.
Leo discovers Coach saved his ass twice, and he was useless in this fight. Camp Half Blood arrives to pick them up, and discovers Percy is not here. Annabeth is disappointed and a tad stab tempted over that. The audience discovers Percy Jackson is missing

Percy Jackson slayed a Minotaur when he was just only 12, he fought against Ares the god of War, he battled countless strong monsters in the Labyrinth, he bathed in the River Styx, and he stood his ground against Kronos and protected Olympus from falling in the Great Titan War-
AND YET
In the first 100 or so pages of The Lost Hero, Jason, Piper and Leo only know him as ‘Annabeth’s boyfriend’ and I just find it hilarious that that’s their initial introduction to Percy as a person.
Though knowing Percy I think he’d be pretty proud to be known as Annabeth’s boyfriend over any of his other accomplishments 😂

Me aged 10 (because I apparently read these books much younger than I thought), reading The Lost Hero: "Where the fuck did Percy go?! Who's Jason?"
Me aged 21, reading Nona the Ninth: "Where the fuck did Gideon go?! Who's Nona?"

Rick Riordan seems (in my personal opinion), to try to paint Rome as more brutal and cruel. Constantly reminding us that they don't tolerate weakness. But I don't see that as true. I really don't. Rome is not worse, and Rome is not cruel and barbaric. Rome is more regal and just, if anything! Rome is home to fine culture and good rulers. Rome is probably better then Greece to me. New Rome sounds way better than Camp Half-Blood. So don't try to tell me about Lupa the wolf who kills the weak. Don't give me that. I know the truth, and the truth is that Rick Riordan made Rome sound super appealing.

Rereading Heroes of Olympus
I just love how much disbelief Jason was in The Lost Hero when he realised that Piper was his girlfriend and Leo his best friend

#13: The Lost Hero by Rick Riordan
Even before he got electrocuted, Jason was having a rotten day.
Rating: 5/5
Three Sentence Review: I am so excited to start my re-read of the Heroes of Olympus series. It has been a while, so my memory of how some of the specific plot points in this story were connected was a bit hazy, but it made it almost like I was reading it anew. The expansion of Riordan's universe into Roman myths still stands up quite well this many years after I first read it!

holy sh holy sh holy sh AMY YOU LIKE PJO :00000
I must ask
if you could dump blitzo, fizz, and Ozzie into the pjo fandom, what godly parents would they have? (idk why I asked bc they're kinda givens for Ozzie and Blitzo but y'know I got excited)
anyway toodles, stay awesome! :)
HI HI HI! I adore pjo reading the books is how my English got strong XD
R they given for Ozzie and blitz? :0
My first thought for blitz was as a Hephaestus kid with fire powers (like Leo my fav lil guy) and he accidentally burnt his mom (like Leo again XD) and fizz
Like it would be a rly intresting parallel to the accident I think
My heart says kid of Aphrodite Fizz but logically…. He’s an actor and clown, clown would like up with Hermes kids I think…but Dionysus is the god of acting.
I don’t like either of those 😭😭😭😭😭
Apollo is the god of singing I think I which fits fizz well sooo I’ll go with that 🙂‍↕️🙂‍↕️
And Ozzie :0 would he be a demigod or like a god? If Demi god hmmmm
Hephaestus again fits but nooot happening (unless blitz is like a Hermes kid instead cuz I feel like that fits him too)
Soooo maybe son of Aphrodite? I feel like that fits best
TO RECAP
🩷🩷🩷
Fizz son of Apollo
Blitz son of Hephaestus
Ozzie son of Aphrodite
🩷🩷🩷
(Unrelated but mammon is son of Zeus and bee is daughter of Demeter if they were demigods)
(Loona hunter of Artemis, 👀. Millie dauhhyer of ares, moxxie son of Athena)

in where Jason sets the tone with some festive amnesia
Jason 1.
What! Where are my funny chapter titles!
Ok, I'm renaming it.
"In where Jason sets the tone with some festive amnesia"
What… I'm not that funny. Oh well. Lets get this started!
The first page details how Jason doesn't know What in the world is going on. He seems remarkably nonchalant about it. Maybe it's because he's older. Maybe it's because Percy had a sense of humour. Looking back at the Lightning Thief, and the Red Pyramid, I can see something that I had not consciously made note of, this book is in third person. The previous two are in first person.
Is this a subtle difference that made it harder for me to connect with the Lost Hero protagonists, compared to Carter , Sadie or Percy? Either way, it's a bit jarring. I know I am not particularly practiced in first person perspective. My ability to write essays has given me more practice in second and third person. I like the second person. I'll admit, I'm not a master with it, but I would like to say I can use it competently.
Can Rick write as well in third, as he can first?
I have some doubts.
Maybe it's supposed to be dissociative?
The descriptions just seem odd here.
Honestly Jason's amnesia is pissing me off. It feels too spoonfed to everything. I think I would have rather had Piper or Leo open this, convinced Jason is trying to prank them, and quietly wondering wtf is wrong with him. Maybe even poking the illusion.
Jason seems pretty judgmental. “Matching jeans, and enough makeup for a halloween party” oh must be the popular kids, with all their sniggering. Like who even says that?  Did you consider that maybe this is Halloween, given you've not even sure of your own age. What do you know about the world at the moment? Zip.
Draw me up like one of dem halloween party girls! Or “owls with makeup”
Hmm… Piper uses connection to native american heritage. On one hand, as knowledge the average city person has on native American lifestyle is abysmal. Like, our education on that sucks. Please educate us accurately on that using Piper.
While I am asking for things from Piper, take the opportunity to educate people on the pitfalls of being beautiful, or even female. Men feel entitled to your time and attention, and get in the way of you getting shit done.
Let Piper fight that battle. Smashing heads won't help.
Jason thinks about Crazy Gods, and a suspiciously timed storm and headache rolls in. He questions Leo about their friendship, then goes off to question the coach, who confirms that he is an imposter. Or at least, an interloper. Pretty sus.
Then, action is built up.
