I'm so sorry to have kept you all waiting on the requests, however I hope that now you see what I've been working on, you might understand why it took some time!! Especially when I've been working on this only in the evening, and while trying to keep my tiny human alive!

When I started this, it was originally a combination of requests/characters I really like! and somehow I ended up with 62 of them!! I'm hoping maybe in the future Ill revisit this, maybe try get 100?! But for now I'm glad to be able to take a break and start on other projects!!

This was really a labor of love, and I really hope you all like it as well! I did try my hardest to get as many details as I could, but I did take a few uniform liberty's here and there!! I hid a few little movie and game Easter eggs in there as well, let me know if you spot any!

Hey, it’s the same anon about Amon from the other day. I appreciate your long post, def agree with a lot of what you said. I actually do like Amon’s storyline in that it’s not about the politics but rather his Severe Daddy Issues. Yakone attempted to control Republic City as a gang leader, then abused his sons and inspired them to take up his project through alternate channels: politics for Tarrlok, a revolution/coup for Noatak. Ultimately book 1 for me is about their issues from their repressive childhood and their struggle to attain power in adulthood (which obviously is similar to Korra’s story as we follow her empowering herself/asserting her place in RC). Tarrlok killing them both (and Amon accepting it) is them ending this abusive cycle. I don’t think it has to be any more political than that — the politics fall flat bc it’s actually a highly individual story.

You're very right, Amon Anon (Amonon? 🤔)

I'll actually note that Amon and Tarrlok are quite unique as villains due to how character driven their storylines are, a habit that I liked but then ended up fizzling out. Neither Unalaq nor the Red Lotus have this individual based aspect to them, even if they do have their momenta. Kuvira is... all over the place, and she's also cheating by having a comic and being an awkwardly placed prop for Korra's arc.

I think that perhaps due to the other three villain storylines not having much meat on their bones, Amon gets grouped in there too, even though he doesn't deserve it.

I think your point about Amon, Tarrlok and Korra being connected by the theme of coming into your own and establish themselves after their shitty childhoods is very astute. All three of them have been under a lot of pressure to excel and fulfil the legacies left to them.

And all are trying to asert themselves in society. Hell, Tarrlok even calls that similarity out.

Tarrlok: Isn't that what you came here to do? Intimidate me into releasing your friends. See, that's what I admire about you, Korra. Your willingness to go to extremes in order to get what you want. It is a quality we both share.

Korra: You and I are nothing alike!

Amon and Korra paralel each other by longing for something else and actively defying their elders/superiors, and both escaped to Republic City...

And it is my personal theory that at the end of the book, Korra was, like Tarrlok, considering suicide.

Which, since they both lost their bending, and are weighed down by a legacy they can no longer uphold. They both feel that there is no saving them.

To be honest, Amon and Tarrlok can make great foils for all the members of the Krew.

They could also good foils to Asami too, due to the whole sins of the father concept. And a father who pressures you to fulfil his ideals and gets violent if you don't... etc...

And the similarities between them and Mako and Bolin are so glaring I don't believe they weren't intentional.

Now I also wish the writers had come up with Suyin's existence earlier because good god the comparison between the Blood bending bros and the Beifong sisters would be just agonising in a good way

Also pretty sure genetics do not work like that but I think its pretty cool how Amon looks more like Yakone pre plastic surgery, while Tarrlok looks more like Yakone post surgery.

There's gotta be some symbolism there that I cannot be arsed to figure out at the moment it is past my bedtime 😴

Norik of Derlusk

Age: 52

Class: Bladesinger Wizard (lvl: high)

Kind, sly, a little cranky, but always up for mischief, Norik’s a fearsome but respected spellsword, and the proud mentor of one Rhaya de Silva. He was born a proverbial blacksheep in a family of sorcerers, having no magic of his own naturally, and was something of a delinquent in his younger years. After a life altering event, however, he not only cleaned up his act, but decided that if magic won’t choose him, he’ll make it respect him. He studied magic at the schools of Yallasch, quickly taking to the more martial school of bladesinging. Shortly after, he ended up being partnered with the Trade Alliance of the Border Kingdoms.

Present day, he’s still very much active in both his work life and in Rhaya’s, eager to see how the young Tenebrine come into his own legacy. And though he’d be quick to deny it, almost everyone in Derlusk knows the ratkin sees Rhaya as his own son.

So this was a fun process drawing the rat rizzard. I HAD to have him stanced up like this. And I’m actually pretty proud of how the face and the hand came out!

He’s yet to appear in the And We Went Out Roving campaign, but I had to establish what kind of man raised Rhaya.

His inspirations were Dante from Devil May Cry, Uncle Iroh, a bit of Zorro, a bit of Jubei from Blazblue… and a LOT of the Red Mage class from Final Fantasy 14.

AMAZON PRIME'S ZORRO PROS & CONS.

After days of watching and re-watching the episodes of the new Zorro adaptation, I decided to share what - obviously only in my opinion - are its main pros & cons.

(For fairness, since I will mention spoiler elements, I thought I'd insert my reflections below the cut).

PROS:

MORE POV. It is impossible to start mentioning the pros of this series without mentioning the very obvious - and extremely right - decision to "broaden" the points of view. Perhaps for the first time, in fact, the story is not narrated almost completely by Diego alone, but also by the various other characters who are part of it (be they the Chinese, the natives, etc.).

REALITY. As already said by @aragarna, this new Zorro gets rid of the "we are all friends/we sit at the same table" contours to show - finally! - the tense and highly classist climate of a sadly very particular historical period. We see the hatred and distrust towards the natives, with the enormous difference - compared to other products that focus on this particular "feud" between colonizers and colonized - of knowing "both bells" (I don't know if there is a similar expression, in English, I apologize) and therefore being able to realize how different things are, depending on who tells the stories. This makes the series refreshingly "real" (yes, even if it includes elements like the Spirits of Native American culture).

NOT CLEARLY GOOD/BAD CHARACTERS. Monasterio is no longer the Commander, absolutely "black", devoid of scruples and good sides. Indeed, as the season continues, he increasingly demonstrates that he is an individual who well understands the absolute injustice of what he does - while nevertheless not shying away from doing it because he is faithful to his position. He is in conflict between what his principles and his role impose on him, effectively making him a magnificent "grey" character. Diego and Nah-Lin themselves are wonderful examples of "well-rounded" characters, because even in their most wrong actions, they maintain a sincerely credible and even - at certain points - justifiable motivation.

TECHNICAL VISUAL ASPECT. The scenes are masterfully shot, the soundtrack is not intrusive but rather an excellent way to underline the various thoughts/feelings of the characters, etc..

ZORRO'S LEGACY. The idea of a "generational change" of Zorro, in a choice that potentially makes it possible to see more sides of the same character - trivially because more people interpret him. A fact demonstrated in this same first season, where we had three Zorros, all three with their "characteristic side".

THE DECISION OF DEPRIVE DIEGO OF HIS MOST RECOGNIZABLE TRAIT. Depriving him - and so soon! - of his father (and consequently of the only person who knows him perfectly), the series allows Diego to always act as himself (within the limits desired by the situation of the moment), without having to resort to that supposed inability to defend himself/laziness/cowardice which is renowned as one of the particular signs of his character.

DIEGO IS NOT INVINCIBLE. It might seem stupid, but in many adaptations, Diego is seen as practically infallible. His plans always come to fruition, he never gets hurt, he makes almost no mistakes... This "new" Diego doesn't; here Diego is young (according to my calculations he is just 21/22 years old), he becomes Zorro not because of his choice but because - literally! - the spirits give him (via Night Crow) the costume and send him home with a lapidary: "You are the new Zorro, whether you want it or not", he still acts like a daredevil boy (complete with Bernardo-Mother Hen)... And this translates into some - very justifiable - errors and just as many choices that are not exactly well thought out.

CONS:

TOO MANY IRONS IN THE FIRE. To be clear: the various plot threads are all (well, almost: Samael and Guadalupe and their "inheritance hunt" have not managed to involve me at all, for the moment) interesting and well structured; but they are objectively many, for a single season. We have the Bear Clan, the Russian-American Company that wishes to "take over Los Angeles", Guadalupe's aforementioned inheritance hunt, Nah Lin's desire for revenge, the search for the truth about his father's murder on Diego's part... And of these very few - if not almost none - had an effective conclusion. The feeling I got was that the producers wanted to "play their cards" all at once, in the hope that this would secure them a renewal for a second season. Something along the lines of: "Hey, we need the renewal! Look at all the unresolved things we left!".

LOLITA. I'm sorry to say this, but I just can't understand what the producers had in mind when they created her character. Or rather, to be more precise, when they created her relationship with Diego. She is initially shown to us as angry at Diego for going to Spain (I think?), in an attitude that could even be understood - if only that same attitude didn't remain as if petrified throughout the rest of the season. Why, exactly, does Lolita remain so resentful towards Diego all the time? Because, despite knowing that he loves her (he himself tells her this, when she helps him with his wound, and even in the very first episode), she constantly pretends not to know what feelings bind him to her, and indeed continually acts in such a way as to hurt him on purpose? Mha! It remains meaningless to me.

Here it is. I have indicated, I repeat, what for me are the main pros and cons of the season (you will probably have found others, or even none).

desperate whumpees and deterioration

One of my favorite tropes of all time is when a whumpee has to fight to reach not just safety, but also the safety of a loved one/innocent person, specifically when the situation gets progressively worse. The whole ordeal is just completely downhill, starting off badly with an injury that only gets worse until they can reach true safety, watching Whumpee decay and give more and more until they simply can't. Bonus points if Whumpee is the leader.

Like, colosseum-like/tournament situations are a great premise.

Accumulating injuries with each round; starting off without a scratch and slowly gaining more broken bones, cuts and bruises, crushed digits, etc.

Eventually even losing mobility in a limb, having an eye swell shut, or some other injury that could potentially prove fatal in combat

With each fight won, Whumpee becomes more exhausted, more ruthless, caked in blood (their own, and of others)

Wilderness survival is fantastic, too.

Rationing materials and slowly running out of food, bandages, etc.

Whumpee sacrificing their own wellbeing for others they feel are under their care; giving their rations to others, so on and so forth...

Desperate & Deteriorating usually goes hand-in-hand with other tropes like Hidden Injury, Downplaying Injury, Self-Sacrifice, Leader Whump, Exposure, Blood Loss, Exhaustion, etc. I love it because the trope is most often found in really long fics that slowly and steadily bring Whumpee and Team to their absolute limit. They're comprehensive and entertaining.

i loved the ending of s1. It has such Darkwing Duck vibes without mutant supervillians; the fedora, the cloak (jacket? Coat? idk what to call it) that acts as a cape, the mask, the whip that can be used as a grappler if need be, the roof top, most likely going to survive anything that is thrown at him in a desperate attempt to be rid of. There is no batman vibes in terms of appearance.

I love the heart this series showed playing with legacy, adding to it, making a new legacy along the way, that if anything were to happen to Diego then someone else will take his place and finish what he started.

Properly. In his name. In his honor. No revenge arc. Because to those who care about him dearly, to avenge him would be to investigate as your civilian self regarding his death and to be the hero that California needs the most at night. Keeping your identity and your feelings separate from the mask.

Gen 1: Farmer Family

And this post marks the end of the first gen of the Lucid Legacy Challenge. This family started out as a family of three and ended up as a big family of 6. Farm dog Penny passed away, but the have a new puppy, Puck in the family. But our cat Zorro is still going strong, she must be about 20 years by now 😳

Killian really was able to realize his dreams. The farm is a smooth running business which provides them with a nice income. And although his eldest son won't be taking over the farm, his second, Miles is very eager to start a next generation of O'Brien's in Henford and continue this beautiful legacy.
