I’m posting today in the biggest spirit of both / and.

It feels insane to post about my fictional guys when the world is so bad. Every day feels bad, but things feel so fucking dire right now. War and ongoing genocide. The Supreme Court decision about gender-affirming care. Dear trans kids (esp in the us): you’re valid, and we’re gonna keep fighting for your bodily autonomy and your right to be exactly who you are. I love you.

Joy and art are imperative, as always. I’m reading so many queer and trans stories right now because I need them. Lou Sullivan’s selected diaries (We Both Laughed in Pleasure) is changing my brain chemistry. I just started Zoë Bossiere’s Cactus Country. I also started Paul Takes the Form of a Mortal Girl by Andrea Lawlor. Excellent stuff all around.

ALSO !!! I finished more than a footnote. I plan to post the final chapter next week!

I love the scenery and settings in chapter 9:

The ocean bleeds orange as the sun slips beneath the waves, tendrils of lava stretching along the horizon. Sand transforms into pyrite, then returns to dull brown once twilight takes hold of the beach … … Before long, the white chalk cliffs of Kent tower above us. Gleaming blocks of milky bone jut into the sky, now smeared over with gray clouds and painting the beach in silvern light. 

And one of my favorite lines from chapter 9:

I’m kissing my best friend, and it’s better than I ever imagined.

things i noticed/thoughts about most recent rewatches of dps (plus laserdisk deleted scenes):

whenever theres a group scene i've started watching the characters that the story isn't focusing on to see what they do and i've been having a fun time with that. pitts and cameron specifically seem to almost always be doing something interesting in the background.

hopkins!!!! my favorite minor character who somehow got character development despite having like 2 lines!!!! the last guy to stand on the desk but he did it!!!

sometimes i do like to think about what the rest of the students thought about the dead poets society, esp in alternate timeline neil lives dps keeps meeting universe. like yeah theres this guy in their class whose one of the most credited students in the school and we think he maybe started a cult. idk though. but that group runs out into the woods every few days to do god knows what and one of them keeps talking about "dead poets honor" whatever that means and holy shit welton star student neil perry started a cult.

i watched the movie with headphones. and maybe it's because ive seen this movie Far too many times and mabe i'm listening too hard but it was Really obvious sometimes when audio was added in post production. llke in the sweaty toothed madman scene when you can hear laughing and to be fair the camera is behind their heads. but it does Not look like anyone's laughing. my favorite is at the end of the phone call to chris scene where knox is like i'm gonna seize the day!! and runs up the stairs and the poets are cheering him on and neil is sort of yelling "carpe!!!!" and i could be wrong but i'm like 75% certain that the person singing is Also rsl so now neil is just speaking two times at once somehow. anyways it didn't ruin the experience for me or anything it was maybe just a little bit funny to notice but very sorry if this did ruin anyone's viewing.

people talk a lot about how rsl and ethan hawke really made their characters what they are but i have to add dylan kussman to that list. I get the impression that older versions of the movie didn't really give as much depth to cameron and watching dylan kussmans performance is like. he Knew who his character was so fucking well and it shows!! like the deleted scene of them getting clubs assigned. like i could tell So Much about cameron from that scene

for how little she actually appeared, there is an emphasis put on the fact that neil's mom smokes pretty frequently. and i think that's interesting considering neil is one of two poets shown actively smoking. neil's mom doesn't appear for very long in the movie but during that time it definitely seems like the movie is intentionally making parallels between the two, particularly in the last argument with neil's father. neil and his mother are both sitting for almost the whole time, which contrasts with his father who is standing. they are both almost powerless in this scene. they stand up at almost the same time. anyways there's a couple different possibilities for what this could mean? that i've though of? 1. to show that neil's mother is in a similar situation to the one neil is in in regards to neil's father and 2. maybe a stretch here but the theory that neil inherited his mental illness at least partially from his mother. i'm pretty sure 1 was fully intentional on the directors part, not entirely sure about 2 though

unmanned flying desket scene: it's probably cause he and ethan wrote the scene themselves but the way rsl talks in this scene feels more like the way he talks in general than the rest of the script. like briefly neil perry is talking in rsl's voice. one of my absolute favorite scenes though the sarcastic dialogue is so good.

OKAY SO some of these are pretty clear (to me atleast) and some are more me going insane but

The Moon Will Sing:

Reference to how his father AND the grabber wanted him to be a certain way without regard to how he felt about it

We walked in the dark, in the dark I never gave a single thought to where it might lead

During his stay with the grabber and how he trusted him and then it ended… Yeah

All those empty rooms We could have been anywhere, anywhere else

Empty rooms could either be metaphorical as to how he’s alone for like, a majority of his life or they could be literal as in his ma’s room is empty after her death and when paired with the second line could be about how he wished to be in a different world where she’s still there. Or, if the second line on its own, could be him wanting to leave the basement, either when he was still alive or as a ghost

Instead, I made a bed with apathy

Either about him admitting that he is, in his words, a jerk, or about how he didn’t care about the other boys (besides Griffin) before the time travel shenanigans, which I think could pair nicely if you interpreted the line before as him wanting to leave the basement, like he wanted to leave but gave up and stopped caring

My heart knew the weight Ten years worth of dust and neglect We made our peace with weariness and let it be

Not literally ten years in his case (or maybe it is. Time is fucked as a ghost) but like. Y’know. The first and second line refer to how his father didn’t really care for him and the grabber just. Move on and stop caring about him after he was done with him. The third line could be him talking to Griffin after they died and before they came back about how they accepted their deaths, and just exist, even if they didn’t like it.

However, I also like to think that that line also refers to him and Griffin and how they accepted that they are, infact, back in time and is trying to save everyone and accept the fact that this is their responsibility since they’re the one who remember and stuff.

The whole chorus is very Swagg AND grabber & Loren coded to me.

It’s grabber & Loren coded because the first two lines, “the moon” could be the grabber and the second line could be what the grabber said to manipulated him. The next two lines could be about his death and I can’t articulate it because English is bullshit but like. Do you. Do you see the vision. “I shine only with the light you gave me” could be about how he felt loved by the grabber and felt important to him like how he did with his ma

But it’s also Swagg coded because the first “the moon” could refer to Griffin’s introverted nature, hence “the moon”, and the second line could also be something he said to Loren but this time Griffin he actually meant it and isn’t saying this to manipulate him like the grabber did. “Bore the shadow that you made” could be talking about Griffin, the “shadow” could be the fact he is still very much traumatised and need someone to help him, and “no light of my own” could be Loren wants to help but he doesn’t exactly know how esp when it comes to the trauma stuff and the last two line could be both of them relying on and trying to help eachother in a way to keep eachother sane through this whole thing

(If I ever decide to animate this, I’ll make the first chorus the grabber & Loren and the second chorus Swagg to mirror it and give Loren like a moment of clarity where the phrase that was used to hurt him is given a new meaning by someone he cares about… oh I am going insane)

Ooh could be that moment when Loren and Griffin met again in the hall and if I remember Griffin didn’t exactly doubt him, but I don’t think he was very happy ? Yeah, that. I may be reaching, but that brief moment could remind him of his father and how he wasn’t like, very proud of Loren either, hence “like swords to the pit of my belly” part. I think I’m onto something here, but I’m not really sure what cuz I can’t articulate it 😭

This is just him yearning for love and company in general, either the grabber’s or Griffin’s

(If it was an animatic I’d make this line refer to Griffin, so it lead to the second chorus and Griffin as I mentioned above and ohhhhh I am insane)

rilla of ingleside, chapter fifteen

“But it will be a better happiness, I think, little sister—a happiness we’ve earned. We were very happy before the war, weren’t we? With a home like Ingleside, and a father and mother like ours we couldn’t help being happy. ”

Here we are again with the idea that the war is necessary to bring about some greater future; a happiness that is more full and earned than the presumably naive happiness of the years before the war. Which. Yeah. Nevertheless, the goodbye scene overall is so wistful and beautiful -- the reminiscing, the quiet deliberation of it. wah.

“In spite of my occasional funks,”

that said, "funk" is honestly such a funny word, esp from ~dreamy poetic~ Walter. also honestly kind of funny that the only thing he really has to say about Rilla having a crush on Ken is "I see".

“Carl, poring over ants and bugs”

Carl has one (1) personality trait 😭

“Rilla glanced up at the manse on the hill. She could see a light in Una Meredith’s window. She felt tempted to say something—then she knew she must not. It was not her secret: and, anyway, she did not know—she only suspected.”

(walter/una agenda time -- one thing that interests me in this scene, re: their possible relationship, is the way Walter talks here as if the war has punctured an idyllic existence where they were all happy, and brought ugliness into a world that he only ever saw beauty in, which is also how the Rilla's life is portrayed at the start of the book. it's a contrast to Una, who has this kind of quiet sadness she carries around from when we very first see her in Rainbow Valley -- while it's true, obviously, that she's never experienced something as wild as world war, she has experienced death and neglect -- there's something interesting there to me about Una, and the Merediths more broadly, perhaps being less naive than Walter/the Blythes about how ugly life could be, pre-war. aaaanyway)

Huh. Somehow in all the bajillion times I've read this book, I totally missed the imagery that all the Blythes, Gertrude, and John+Rosemary Meredith were standing around the piano singing. (also where is Una!!!) Intrigues me because again, we don't have much idea of what these families do when they're just hanging out!

lmao between this and the "not leaving any girl to break her heart over me" (also the cut Readying Rilla line of Carl being like a brother to Rilla)...LMM, these signs won't stop me bc I can't read!! (lettuce discuss what a brotherly kiss even is: being that Faith argues in TBAQ that Walter has kissed a girl bc he kisses Una here, I've always figured this is on the lips? just maybe at the corner of the mouth, or quick enough that it's not romantic.)

discussed before, but it's interesting that Rilla doesn't actually have much of a best friend her own age -- this is the bit I think that causes people (myself included) to tend to write Una as her best friend, since Rilla seems to see Una more than the other characters, and the two of them are connected via their love for Walter. that said, there really isn't that much interaction between them! but it's sweet that they support each other here, and an interesting moment where Una supports Rilla re: Walter instead of the other way around.

The MV and lyrics both work together to portray the experience of being an OFW/having an OFW parent. OFWs, or overseas Filipino workers, refer to Filipinos who go abroad in search of jobs that have better pay, so that they can remit money back to their families in the Philippines.

personal opinion: The MV is kinda ass because it's just a super long extended ad for DITO PH (in terms of story and also bc they really missed out on doing a vid that drew more on culture esp bc dayang is a historical noble title and they used tausug words and designs for the graphics an the dance itself already incorporated pangasik dance which is also from the tausug people LIKEEE?? they've always promoted other cultures of the philippines i know they can do it but because of CAPITALISM--). Turn Back the Clock by Greyscale: Hunter and Luz, again. This one is about them reconciling/coming back to an understanding after Belos's death. This is the one I'm a little iffy on, mostly because it's more explicitly romantic than most of these but I like it here.

Dead Man's Hand does fit Jason. "Sure as hell he was dead as they come and he was already starting to smell. Just a kid with his hair slicked back and a knife tucked into his belt. Was he unforgiven or just tired of living a life that never felt like his?" "I know I'm dead but I don't wanna lie in a grave out here where the coyote's cry. Hurricane. I do think that all of the batkids are adrenaline junkies but I do see how the lyrics fit those ones especially.

La Bella Fleur Savage - Google says Fleur means both flower and resilience. I can see how that fits Babs and how the song resembles her love with Dick.

The World Ender - I love this song for Steph. She deserves to get her revenge. She did kind of die with Black Mask, but she didn't really do a revenge thing like Jason. On the other hand she "won't ever feel the embrace of the grave" because she revived before being buried.

Meet Me in the Woods - I see how this is TimBern especially because Bernard isn't in the vigilante business (so he won't really understand what Tim's been through).

I think Taylor does her best work when she has someone to impress. I don't really buy into the Aaron v Jack argument, esp at this point, bc they're both clearly close friends. I do think she did some phenomenal work when starting out w Aaron (folklore) and Jack (1989) because she was desperate to prove herself. She's clearly incredibly talented and driven - but I think her last two albums have leaned confessional/repetitive because she doesn't have to come in to impress but to vent. Theres songs I enjoy on both but I think she's pulling the wrong lessons from her successes - ex: excessively wordy lyrics, the same collaborators, etc - when her best work has been done w her back against the wall. Art thrives with friction!

additional thoughts: i think this is a much better way to say it then "she just needs to work with new producers!". but yeah, i think a big reason why 1989 (and to a lesser extent, folklore) will always be so special to me is that she just put everything on the line. but i also thik the other side of what makes them so special is that she was following her gut with both of them. those albums are so special because it was what she needed to make. like, having something to prove is important, but it works best when that thing you need to prove is your own instincts.

but i’m here now to give my thoughts on show me again AND LiL pt5!!! first of all in regards to show me again - i LOVE how you build up your writing so much. from putting your own spins on the marvel world-building to the relationship building between your character & buck, it’s always sooo meaningful and makes me care about the story and characters that much more than a regular p w/o plot does. and esp in show me again i remember how much i loved the relationship build up when i first read it 😭😭. i also loved that she was a mutant and once he knew that it made them connect THAT much more like it was just 👩🏻‍🍳🤌💋and i also feel like it was a unique story too i don’t often see mutant!reader w bucky (or like, at all??)

as for LiL pt 5….bro. i don’t often cry when i read fanfics but their conversation out on the porch of the beach house i was all teary eyed 🥲🥲🥲🥲 like those are my babies wtf and they’re finally TALKING like TALKINGGG omfg i love where you’ve taken this story sooo much. from the convo out on the balcony to the scene of gang in the car during the stakeout (like that’s my family😭) to the actual mission part to the convo on the porch to the ending….10s across the board!! loved both show me again & lessons 5 SO much 🙏

oh my gosh lovely, that’s all okay!! I feel like I’d be the worst person to be mad about life getting in the way when I’ve been MIA for like a month lol! Unrelated but I had like a months worth of notifications to comb through yesterday to reply to reblogs and comments and asks etc, so I’ve been running my blog on queue so ignore how long it takes this to publish vs when I actually replied to it haha.

firstly thank you so so much!!! I had the idea for show me again for AGES. Like genuinely years ago I had this idea for a mutant power that could control pain and pleasure. Originally it was going to be a water/blood bending type of deal but then I decided to just lock into the manipulation of senses. (Also when I say I had this idea years ago, I mean before I even started writing fanfic on tumblr! so it’s been a long time coming)

I think at the time of writing it, I had worried that their dynamic might be too similar to Bucky and reader in LiL, but now I really think they’re SO different. I think Bucky is a lot more confident and almost?? Primal?? lol?? In show me again. I think he carries guilt for hurting people but recognises it was out of his control. More in line with how we see Bucky in the end of falcon and winter solider (beloved happy yet grumpy boy). Though I did purposefully want to keep the timeline pretty ambiguous. I don’t think I mention WHO exactly Bucky works for if I remember correctly, so it could be interpreted as anywhere on the timeline. The readers backstory was just entirely made up, but I’m sure there is something within marvel lore that is similar to her situation with mutants being sold as weapons. I need to actually watch all of the xmen stuff, I don’t remember a lot of it.

Originally the fic was actually going to start with the reader still in captivity! I wrote an entire intro and then cut and changed the entire direction of the fic. I think I also mentioned this in some reblogs but the barb wire fence injury was also a last second addition lol. Originally it was just Bucky who was going to be injured.

But yeah, I do like their dynamic!! With the whole enemies to lovers once the readers past is kinda revealed. The smut scene was also pretty intentional having them use powers/arm as a tool for pleasure rather than pain.

Anyway! As for LiL 5, so happy you enjoyed!! I was really anxious posting it at first just because I am always anxious posting LiL lol! I always convince myself that people are gonna hate it or something but I’m always pleasantly surprised that everyone enjoys haha.

I spent HOURS working on the dialogue for this chapter. I really wanted to nail their convo on the balcony, so I really hope I did. And the porch conversation was another convo that went through so many edits over DAYS.

I feel like this chapter was so important to seeing their relationship deepen… and also Bucky really seeing how the reader is struggling and unhappy. I think he always kinda got the vibe she was unhappy but didn’t have the courage or motivation to try to help.

I think in the last chapters we’ll see their arcs coming full circle and I hope everyone will like how it ends/wraps up. The end goal is something I’ve envisioned for these characters since the beginning. I think it’ll be the beginning of something really positive and happy for them :)

The fact Alys killed FOR Daemon. Probably the most romantic thing someone has done for him, lmao. I hope they have sex and she does get pregnant with Daemon’s child, FINALLY someone who match his freak (you’d never hear the end of it from some quarters if Daemon did, the same people who are championing Rhaenyra cheating).

But seriously, Daemon asking Alys for help, her actually helping him and the last hallucination she gives him is that of reconciliation with his brother… I’m still processing this and what it’ll mean down the line. I need to know her motives because it can’t just be helping out Daemon ?? She calls them both chess pieces at the hands of larger forces… How far into the future has she seen ?

Besides that point she knows how Daemon dies, she told him “he’ll die in this place”, so why does she even help him ? And what about Aemond ? Like I wonder what the end goal is for her. Since she will know Aemond dies, imagine she doesn’t warn him about it when she met him which will be 100% funny.

First, this is nothing against you anon. But I don't take HotD's writing and characters at face value or value them bc I believe much of HotD's writng is superficial and too contradictory for that. Even without considering how they have made it so much easier to hate and misunderstand several F&B characters, general ASoIaF lore, etc., enough for people to think this war wasn't as anti-woman-leader focused as it was bc the showrunners have blatantly said they wish to make this more about "both teams bad, Targs are uniquely selfish".

Answer: (in case you weren't being facetious) Sorry, nothing is ever going to beat for me Alys getting impregnated by the craziest bitch of the greens, aka, anti bastard team. Other than that, show!Alys is not doing for Daemon but for the Riverland smallfolk, so yeah she doesn't care for Grover Tully that much. I believe she's meant to parallel Mysaria in HotD's endless love for "parallels".

I don't think the writers know what her end goal is, bc even this is not all that clear in the book as she disappears from history with her son. And I don't think that she has much to anticipate since unless HotD is trying to say that Jojen Reed was Alys' descendant, how did a Targ father contribute to any of Jojen or Meera's abilities in GoT or ASoIaF? Nah, this storyline is weird & jumbled.

As for Daemon asking for help, I think this is the "toxic-man-learns-he's-not-that-special-and-asks-for-a-woman's-help-to-raise-women's-importance" arc HotD has out for him in this season. An unnecessary one that contradicts the first one--and no 1x10 was bullshit esp the choking scene, so 🤷🏿‍♂️.

Finally, I don't blame some people having issue if Daemon did cheat with Alys bc if they are, like you, trying to enjoy HotD for its own thing and in this iteration of Daemon, he did choke Rhaenyra out. So yeah, he has less of a high horse if he did cheat. Other people's dislike for Daemon cheating may rather just come from their misunderstanding of his character, book or show, so they don't count.

lando and emma in the paddock also going to be part of this for sure. I took the max f inspo last night and just fucking ran with that, so f1 is not a new world for either of them now, but being part of oscar's corner of it is. And they're definitely around more races after lando and osc get together and it's definitely a dead heat between who's heart/brain will explode faster: oscar seeing lando waiting for him in hospitality & watching emma with her big headphones on in the garage during free practice, or lando watching oscar take little moments out of his work day to pay attention to them and give Emma high-fives and kiss lando's forehead before he has to run off to his next thing.

yes australia !! lando probably first meets oscar's family on a gp weekend tbh, but oscar's been itching to take them both home with him foreverrrrr bc emma's ALWAYS asking for stories about australia and begging to go see the kangaroos. and then yes, they both love it. and oscar's accent gets stronger when he's there and that's impossible for lando to deal with.

yeah the thing i didn't consider when making lando kind of a disaster is that oscar is also a mess of a different kind? and so that honestly probably makes lando feel BETTER, because lando feels self-conscious about himself as an adult almost constantly, but in comparison to oscar's four t-shirts (dried with the fkn oven, lest we forget) and general carelessness on some things, lando is like... perhaps i am sometimes a little put together after all. but osc when he's around takes on a select few of the domestic tasks lando loathes (cooking yes absolutely) and that's cool but it's mainly so nice to just have another person around. to entertain emma while lando does necessary adult things or to run grab extra shampoo from the store quick bc lando didn't realize they were out and now emma's already in the bath. having a partner? mint.

extras for youuuuu from my own early plotting and thinking:

calling/facetiming oscar before emma's bedtime on race weekends when they're not along with. esp when it's like the north american races and lando lets emma stay up an extra 45 minutes past bedtime so they can watch fp1 and then call osc to say goodnight. emma so impatient to call even though lando reminds her every time they do this that they have to wait for oscar to call them because he's at work and he'll only have a minute. but then him in his race suit still with balaclava lines and lando is like. extremely not normal about it. ever. and emma is like "you were the fastest, osc?" and oscar is like "well we were testing a new rear wing, so-" and lando's like "yeah she doesn't care babe" even though he knows oscar knows that and they're both just being shits bc they're helplessly FOND of each other. (lando stays up past his bedtime, too, to watch fp2 and oscar calls HIM to say goodnight after that as well)

i decided last night to just swap lando and max f in this universe, so max is the other mclaren driver. so then max being stupidly irritated all the time that HE'S been the one around emma since she was BORN and OSCAR won her over in like four days. after everything he's done for her, she still wants to sit in OSCAR'S lap in-between media events, smh. constant bickering between max f and oscar about whose merch emma is gonna wear and who she wants to finish ahead of the other (even though she truly can't tell them apart on track whatsoever and gets excited whenever any papaya car does anything) and who's her favorite. and she obviously drinks in all the attention and lando is just heart exploding bc how did he even end up with all of his most favorite people all in one place like what good deeds did past life him do to deserve this cosmic luck?

emma's used to daddy sleeping in, so she's good at waiting to get out of bed until it's time, but oscar gets up early and she quickly learns that when he stays the night, she can get up and follow him to the kitchen at like 7am and he won't even be upset. he'll let her sit on the counter while he scrambles eggs or whatever and talk to her about whatever she wants to hear about. premiere bonding time for them. (also then osc coming over once after a late flight home from wherever just to sleep in lando's bed bc he missed his bby and lando said it was okay. so he gets up to get water early, still sleepy, and emma comes running in to join and he's like "i need to go back to sleep, baby, sorry :(" bc he's rlly only gotten like two hours at that point. but she looks so sad... so he's like "do you wanna have a cuddle with us?" and obviously she does. so lando lifting his head all groggy and confused as oscar slides back into bed, but osc just shushes him and kisses his hair like "sh, go back to sleep, emma's here though" and then his daughter's on the bed, too, and lando's really not sure what's happening bc he's hardly awake, but em curls against his chest and oscar presses up behind him and kisses the back of his neck and like. there's literally nothing to complain about?? so sleepy lazy morning as they all snooze until like 11am.)

It took time for her to adjust to the new attention and fame she found in dating Tom. She’d always known some of it but hadn’t expected the full extent of what came her way. She dealt with the hate pretty well, it often not bothering her. And whenever it did, Tom was always right there to offer his support. It was also a learning curve getting used to being interrupted on dates, even more so when fans would ask for her photo or signature and not just Tom’s.

“I’m so glad you two finally got together,” Nikki smiled at the couple as she pulled the Christmas cookies out of the oven.

“Finally?” Y/n giggled, glancing at Tom who looked just as surprised by his mom’s comment.

“Yes, finally. I’ve always known you two would get together someday, I’m just happy to see it finally happened,” she explained as if it was the most casual statement.

“Y-you always knew we’d get together? How?” Tom pressed, clearly intrigued as he leaned closer in anticipation of the answer.

“It was right there. It was hard not to know. It’s been clear the whole time, written in the way you two would look at each other. Plus, the way you two treated each other, it was always clear it was more than a standard friendship” Nikki smiled at the two, patting both of their blushing cheeks before stepping out of the kitchen.

A few years later...

“Tom, are you okay?” Y/n asked, reaching out to hold his hand over the nicely decorated table.

“Yeah, I’m great” tom smiled. “Why do you ask?”

She giggled and squeezed his hand. “You just… you’re acting a bit weird. And while I adore the fact you closed down the whole restaurant for us to have a private dinner…” she said looking around her favorite restaurant. “We could’ve just hid in the back like we usually do when we come here, you know Tony would’ve saved our table if we asked” she smiled, thinking of all the times they’d come here together in the last few years. “Or, if you were feeling even more private tonight we could’ve stayed home at our flat babe,” she pointed out as they’d been living together, without the boys’ presences, for awhile now. “That’s all, I just wanted to make sure you were feeling okay” she explained sweetly.

Tom blushed and rubbed the back of his neck. “Yeah, that’s true. It’s just… it’s not a typical date and actually that’s uhh why I’ve been nervous for tonight, so I’m sorry I’m acting weird” he rambled nervously.

“Don’t apologize baby, why are you nervous?” She cooed, rubbing the back of his hand. When he didn’t say anything, she followed his gaze as it shifted behind her. What was her family doing there? Why were they holding their phones up? And why did her brother look like he was going to cry? “Tom? What’s going on?” She asked looking back at her boyfriend in confusion.

Tom took a shaky breath and scooted his chair back until he was far enough away from the table to sink to his knee. Down on one knee, he reached into his pocket and pulled out the ring box he’d been guarding for some time now. “Y/n Y/m/n Osterfield…,” Tom chuckled nervously with a shy smile. “You’ve made me happier than I ever thought I could be. You’ve been there for me in ways no one else has. You went from being my best mate’s sister to my friend and then my crush, and finally my girlfriend. But you have always been the love of my life, even before either of us knew. I can’t wait to see what else is in store for us. I don’t know what all the rest of my life has to offer, but I know I want to spend it with you. Will you marry me?”

“Yes,” she responded in a creaky voice as her tears she had tried so hard to keep in began to fall down her face. She smiled at him as he slid the ring onto her finger before rising. They quickly pulled each other in for a tight loving embrace.

Tom kissed the top of her head and leaned back slightly. He rested his forehead against hers as he smiled at her.

As was usually the case when they were together, both of them forgot about the cameras around them and just enjoyed their moment together.

idk if you take asks but enchanted is such perachel (esp from rachel pov on how like she was so wonderstruck by him and his life/world)

Enchanted is definitely Perachel coded, and some sections work for both Percy and Rachel pov.

Percy pov:

Percy is sure his fatal flaw could have been hindsight. The number of times he has lamented the choices he has made, more so on the fact of whether he could have done it better differently; much like now that he's finished regretting his Nico conversation his thoughts finally return to one Rachel Elizabeth Dare. Yes, he remembers her full name, he has a good memory and even if he didn't she would be hard to forget.

For one, she saved his life despite him running her through with Riptide (he had never been more glad that his sword didn't harm mortals).

That and her face was a bit too memorable to ever forget. It's logical, too; he remembers Annabeth telling him the statistics for facial features. Red hair and green eyes were the rarest pair, and of course, Rachel Elizabeth Dare had both. It's not his fault he was enchanted, the sort of enchanted you get when you see a once in a lifetime thing cause that was what it was. He hoped, however, desperately that he would see his red-headed nightmare again; after all he had a debt to repay. Given that she probably lived near Hoover, chances were he would never see her again.

He shouldn't have doubted how much the Fates love proving him wrong because he sees her just a few months after the orientation of all places. He's equal parts glad and embarrassed, for he certainly couldn't apologize enough, and that makes him do something insanely stupid like run away. She finds him like she did last time, and he is so caught up in staring at her that he forgets he needs to run mostly cause he can't give her the answers she wants.

It starts out as he knows it would with her wanting an explanation. He wants to explain, too, but he's always been bad at it, and it's not like he got a good one from Chiron. Then came in the demon cheerleaders. They were so well disguised that he wouldn't have known if not for Rachel screaming. So yeah, it's now the second time he's gotten her involved in something dangerous. The empousai, something women, seemed to have it out for his blood, which wasn't new, but he drew the line at them attacking Rachel. He killed the first one and was almost on the second one when Rachel realized her scheme. Now Percy could definitely say thinking on his feet was his strength but between Rachel being attacked and Paul Blofis showing up he was a bit slow on the uptake. Rachel, brilliant Rachel gets them both out of there, they are almost out and he is half ready to drag her with him so they could both talk and so he could apologize again right until Annabeth shows up. So yeah, that ruins almost all his plans. Annabeth's in a hurry, and he should be too given the burning school, but he couldn’t just leave Rachel Elizabeth Dare on her own. If not for her insistence, he would have taken her with her. Deja vu is quick to catch up to him as he flees with Annabeth, leaving Rachel to deal with the mass chaos he left behind yet again. Rachel pov:

Rachel can't stop thinking about Percy I-am- not -a mortal- guy weeks after her trip had ended and the cold was long gone. Made sense. After countless years of thinking herself insane, she finally met someone who knows all the answers to her questions. Perhaps that's why she is so ridiculously obsessed with him. What's more ridiculous is that she can't stop sketching. No matter what she starts with, she always ends up with the same visage of a sea-green eyed boy. The only reason she remembers his face is because she's good at that sort of thing; being an artist requires good memory, not because he was excessively good-looking even in that awful lion fur.. Had he not run her through with his stupid sword, she would have gawked at him. Listen, she was an artist, and she could admire a good face. She was almost at the point of hiring a P.I. under her father's nose to look for Percy something. She was sure he was from New York , call it a feeling. But if so, New York could have like hundreds of Percy and what if he lived in some strange place only people like him,no, people like them could see.

Rachel had a barrage of such weirdly eerie encounters, but something about this one was far more enchanting than any other. He had seen what she saw and heard what she heard, and when she told him to hide, he listened to her no questions asked. Nobody had done that ever before, but just before he slipped into the stall, she was sure that the uncertainty he felt was less over hiding and more over leaving her alone. "I owe you one, Rachel Elizabeth Dare," he had said to her with so much belief in the fact that they would meet again that she almost believed him as vain as it felt.

Turns out Rachel didn't have to believe in vain for too long. She saw him at this new high school she had picked against her father's wishes. It was so random that she thought she was hallucinating. She almost doesn't catch up to him, which makes her next words angry, and then he just stares at her as he blurts out her full name, and she's forgotten entirely why she was angry. The fact that he remembered her name made her weirdly happy until she remembered he tried to kill her. He had finally begun answering her questions until demon vampire things came along. Percy couldn't see them, so she had to ask him to run. Even now, he believed in her without any hesitation. Percy was negotiating. She could tell when Kale something and her trainee cornered them. Negotiating to get them both out. Then the trainee lunged at her. Faster than she could process her fear, she lay dead sliced clean by Percy. It was gross to be covered in monster dust, but she was happy she was alive. The Kelli one attacked now, and Percy swiftly put himself between us . For all her bragging about being thousand years old, I had a feeling Percy could defeat her. Maybe that's why she didn't feel any fear, just adrenaline and awe. Percy was extremely good with the sword, and the demon thing probably caught that cause she tricked us into ducking as she exploded and started a large fire. Even that would have turned out fine is some professor who knew Percy hadn't interrupted and made Percy freeze.

As she called out about the fire he seemed to recover as he quickly counted his options and settled for jumping through the broken window. Because she was now certifiably insane she jumped after him into the alley. By the time she caught up to them some blond girl was standing with him. By the looks of it she knew him but Rachel hadn't seen her at orientation; as soon as her grey eyes settled on Rachel her smile disappeared but Rachel didn't much care about that. Percy had gotten her into this he was going to pay her back with at least a fee explanations.

She ignored the pang she felt when he told the blond girl Annabel something that she was a friend. But friend was good it was better than nobody. As Annabel was about to drag him away, possibly preventing them from meeting ever again, she scrawled her number on his hand in permanent marker. Contrary to her thoughts, he didn't call her crazy nor did he back away. It might have been her speech about him owing her, or maybe just maybe he was just as enchanted by their first meeting. As she ran away to make up some story, she could still feel his eyes on her. This time, it was he who would look for her maybe, just maybe as fixatedly as she had.

This turned out to be rather long but it's such a good theme it might deserve a part two. (Yes I do take asks , just takes me bit of time to deliver.)

Hello, do you speak in hypotheticals by chance?

Let's say that, hypothetically, your show's lead actress quits 2 days before performance day. Let's also say that, hypothetically, you have been removed from stage management and placed onto the cast in a panicked frenzy.

In this completely hypothetical and not-real-life scenario, is there any kind of advice you would give yourself for learning an entire character in 48 hours?

(Yes everything's fine why do you ask?)

So, hypothetically, I've never had to learn a role on this tight of a time line, but here's my like. General Memorization Strategy™:

You've been part of the SM team, you've got a general idea what's going on, you're not going in completely blind, you can do this.

Repetition. Repetition. Repetition. (spoiler: this is also in every other point.) Run it as much as you can.

You need a line partner. You will read the script (Several times! Out loud even!). You will go 'yeah know what the lines are.' You will not. Get someone on book while you run. It can be a cast member, it can be your friend, it can be your mom, it can be some guy you stop in a grocery store aisle, whoever, Someone needs to check you.

Adding to 3, my favorite method to have them check me, is where I start at the top and go until I mess something up at which point they correct me and I start over from the very beginning. This makes the scene take ages and gets boring fast and it is Absolutely Crucial to making sure you know the scene in context (also. free repetition).*

Do this on your feet. ** I like to run lines under my breath while I'm walking places, which can be anything from around the block, the aforementioned grocery store, or just straight up pacing. You're never just speaking on stage so try not to practice like that. Get your body involved

Don't forget the Everything Else you're doing. You know the lines but do you know where the next entrance is? Props? Costume change? Quick turnaround? Make a list***. Run the list often so you can recall things backstage

Also uh..i've never been concise but 30 Second Character Workshop:

Feet and shoulders. Bam. Like 85% of character body movement right there. How does the character hold their feet and how do they hold their shoulders. If you know that it will lead pretty naturally into the rest of the movements.

*I am absolutely guilty of bailing on my own method and only going back part way bc I have said that dialogue forty times in the last five minutes thank you very much, so this isn't like a hard rule but try to start from different places each time so that the memorization is cohesive and run it all together at the end. I also personally like my partner to make me be word perfect but that is dependent on both directorial and personal preference.

**This is more of a step 2 bc it can be a lot esp if you're trying to read at the same time, but you want to get to it as soon as possible. Also a great place to run blocking if you know it but if you only run things on your feet when you have space to do blocking you're losing out on ages of practice time. Just get your body moving.

***Given the fact you're stepping in so last minute, I'm going to hazard this list already exists in some way but make it your best friend. If you have time to rewrite it (by hand ideally) that can help cement it into your memory. My personal format is "In Scene X, I am playing X in X costume. I enter from X carrying X and exit X carrying X. After I leave, I X" but do whatever format and information makes the most sense to you, cause you're the one who's going to use it.
