tags: japanese is not reader’s first language (or mine so sorry if i made a mistake!), and she has an accent and struggles to pronounce a sentence (it wasn’t warm), established relationship, satoru is whipped.
word count: 0,3k. very short :)
satoru loves you like a breezy summer night. it’s hot for most of the day, yet when open the balcony door at 3am, you sigh in content at the icy air. he loves you like the smell of waffles coming from the kitchen, they’re not burnt or undercooked, they’re crispy and golden and you sprinkle some nuts on top after cutting slices of banana and drizzling some honey. but what satoru is sure of, is that he loves you as if he were there the day you were created.
he admires what you do with adoration, admiration and love. he doesn’t need to give verbal praise for you to know that he is so proud of you.
“so when I went to check my plate in the microwave, it was not–it was not warm—“ you struggle a bit with the pronunciation of the japanese phrase, your accent slipping and you cover your mouth in embarrassment. you were telling your boyfriend about how you should fix the microwave, but somehow managed to struggle so much with a sentence. satoru is quick to remove your hand and join in the laugh, but he pulls you towards his chest carefully and throws his head back.
the heart that once felt empty, unsatisfied was now filled with nothing but love. pure, unconditional love for a person who came into his life on a whim.
“it was not warm,” satoru repeats lowly, the words gliding out of his mouth with so much ease. he is an expert at this, given that it is his native language. he resta his hands on your shoulders as his eyes rake over your face. the slight flush to it is adorable, he thinks.
“it was…not warm,”
“good job,” his voice drops a volume lower, his hands holding your face as his thumbs caress your cheeks. “my smart girl, knows so many languages that her brain gets a little fried sometimes,”
“it does,” as you sigh, you get on your tip toes and peck his lips. but once is never enough for satoru, so he pecks you again. and again and again.
“enough. you have work to do,” your hand pushes softly at his chest, giggling when he starts to kiss under your ear.
“work can wait,”
“what if it’s an emergency?”
“let em die—“
“no!”
based on what i found on google, “it wasn’t warm” translates to “Atatakakunakatta” so i thought why not! if it’s wrong tho, do correct me pls!
note: based on a cute thing @aurelianamu told me abt her and satoru :) this one’s for you best friend!

The stars are but mere fireflies to the sun that is the Kojima household tonight.
Bedecked in bright lights and a thousand and one paper lanterns, the palatial grounds of the property exude a brilliance, the likes of which the guests claim to have never been seen before, their awestruck voices drawing a polite smile from your grandmother (though the pride in her ancient eyes is unmistakable, you note).
You move your eyes away from your clan matriarch and let them rove over those around you – and their glowing selves – rendered more luminous by their expensive fabrics, sparkling jewels, and gleaming smiles.
Oh, what a couple of scraps of paper can do to one’s self, you muse silently, glancing at the woman batting her eyelashes at your cousin – the former the same one who was convicted in a hit-and-run case a year or two back, though now, with a Louis Vuitton dress hanging off her frame, no one, except you, perhaps, remembers on seeing her the innocent blood she wiped off her hands, all thanks to her wealth.
Not wanting to mar this celebratory evening with such dark thoughts, you shift your gaze to tonight’s centre of attention: the older of your two brothers, Takeshi and his fiancée Sara, your lips turning upwards into a small smile on seeing how dazzling they look beside each other – how beautiful, how well-suited, how happy, how… very artificial they look beside each other.
As artificial as the thousand and one paper lanterns your grandmother’s so proud of.
As artificial as your guests’ smiles - too-white, too-wide, too-thin.
As artificial as the compliments you can hear that woman shower upon the wife of the man she was attempting to seduce not too long ago.
Your smile disappears to give way to a frown, as you take in the falsity around you.
And a leaden weight lodges itself in your chest, right where your heart should be, when your eyes again meet the sight of your brother and your childhood friend smiling at the photographer – while your ears hear the wails of anguish, the snarls of contempt and the sighs of wistfulness –a cacophony of abandoned dreams and stifled desires emanating from the two souls soon to be joined in holy matrimony, two weeks from today.
Your mother says marriage is one of, if not the happiest event in a person’s life.
Oh Mom! If only you could hear what I can now…
Placing your empty glass of mojito mocktail on the grass near you, you lean back against a tree and close your eyes to soothe the throbbing pain in your temples – one which always happens after you’ve been amid too many people for too long a time, much to your great discomfort.
Sighing loudly, you move to lie down on the grass when the sounds of an approaching pair of footsteps reach you, soon joined by a boisterous yell of “Aha! There’s the woman of my dreams I’ve been searching for so long!”
“Hello to you too, Satoru,” You say, turning to the side and propping yourself up on an elbow, your eyes now open. “Didn’t think you would make it to the party.”
Gojo flops down beside you with an exaggerated pout.
“Oh, come on, Momo-chan. Think a bit higher of me, will you? Of course, I would make it to the party. My best friend’s brother’s getting engaged today. How on earth could I ever miss it?”
“And since when have you and Takeshi been on such good terms, hm? That you’re willing to leave your comfortable life at school to attend a party filled with clan elders for an entire evening?” You ask him, an eyebrow raised, unwilling to buy into his rubbish explanation.
Gojo chuckles. “Oh, it’s not Takeshi I’m here for today,” He says softly, shuffling closer to you until your sides are almost touching, “It’s you.”
You open your mouth, ready with a snarky reply, when his expression makes you stop – the words you were planning to say, now lost in your throat, as you look at his unusually earnest face.
“Satoru?” Your voice comes out as a shaky whisper, reasons behind which you cannot fathom for the love of your life.
(It’s ’cause he’s so close to you, silly! A part of your brain whispers – the same one which had made you call Gojo handsome, out of all the damned things you could say to him – that day you first saw him in his Jujutsu Tech uniform – much to your utter bewilderment and embarrassment.)
You clear your throat and repeat yourself loudly, “Hey, Satoru?”
“Hm?” Gojo moves even closer to you when you call his name and places a hand on your cheek, the warmth of it making a wonderful contrast with your cold skin that chilly autumn night.
“Do-” You hesitate, as an odd (warm? bubbly?) feeling creeps into your chest, but ultimately your concern for the eerie way his eyes seem to shine at you outweighs that weird feeling, and you ask, “Do you have a fever, Satoru? You don’t really look okay there.”
Gojo blinks, his unusual expression soon overtaken by a stupefied one as you continue to peer up at him, frowning.
“Satoru,” You shake him gently, after a few seconds of him staring at you. “Hey! Gojo!”
That seems to shake him out of his stupor, as he quickly removes his hand away from your cheek and scoots away, his face reddening with each passing moment.
“N-no, no. I’m okay. Totally okay,” He mumbles, “There’s no need to worry. I’m perfectly fine.”
But you know the white-haired shaman way better than that.
You sit up and move closer to him and place your palm on his forehead, the other palm on your own forehead. “Now, lie still and let me check your temperature.”
“Your skin’s warm… But not so warm for you to have a fever,” You say after a while, still frowning down at your friend whose head you have now placed in your lap, “But your face looks awfully red. And your eyes too seem weird. And,” Pausing, you place your hand on the kimono over his heart, remembering a person’s pulse rate is said to speak volumes about their health, and gasp.
“My goodness, Toru! What the hell happened to you? Your heart is beating really fast! Are you-”
A finger to your lips stops your outburst, and within the next moment, you find yourself crushed to his chest, his arms holding you in a vice-like grip and his nose muzzling into your hair.
“Toru, you’re not really okay, are you?” You ask, tilting your head up at him, the slight tremor in your voice inaudible to all except you – and Gojo too, perhaps, judging by the way you notice him smirk a little at you, before it slips into an indecipherable twitch of his lips.
“No, I’m not okay,” He answers above you, his arms around you tightening a touch. “I’m really, really not okay.”
You crane your neck upwards to fully look at him and brush the pads of your thumbs over the skin under his eyes. “Then why did you come here tonight, you idiot? You should have stayed back in your dorms and taken rest,” You scold him, concerned eyes sweeping over his appearance.
Gently removing your hand from his face to intertwine his fingers with yours, Gojo leans closer to your face and whispers, every breath he exhales hitting your face like a little puff of smoke in the cold, “But I couldn’t stay back in my dorms tonight, Momo-chan – Not when I know the medicine to my treatment is here.”
It takes a while for his words to register themselves in your brain.
And when they do, you can’t help but let out a small gasp (the same time as that portion of your brain lets out a small squeal in joy).
“Are you-” You begin but stop yourself from speaking any further, your trust in your oratory skills having plummeted to an all-time low, and choose instead to focus on his electric blue eyes as the slew of nervous mutterings, which had been lost in the background of your mind until now, slowly turns intelligible.
Was that too much for her?
Am I going to get rejected?
Well, shit, she’s going to reject me.
Oh wait – did she even understand me?
My Momo-chan can be really dense at times – though she’s cute too then – like really, really cute!
But no, seriously – was I too roundabout for her? Or should I have confessed to her directly?
Oh no, she’s looking at me right now. Is she angry? Is she disappointed? Is she horrified?
Oh no, that’d be the worst – if she’s horrified.
Calm down, Satoru. Calm down. Take a breath in and think straight. Panicking won’t help you now.
But I’m too much in love with Momo-chan to even think straight.
Damn it, damn it, just damn it.
I should have just listened to Suguru and written her a love letter or something.
“Love letters are really beautiful, Toru-chan,” Reaching up a hand, you tuck some of his unkempt hair behind his ear – while a giggle erupts from you at the way his face changes from being lovestruck (and not fever-stricken, you realise, relieved) to horrified to the most apprehensive you’ve ever seen him – and you add with a grin, “But this confession is the most beautiful of them all. I love it.”
Gojo blinks. “So does that mean…” He trails off, an unsure yet hopeful look in his eyes.
Sliding your hand down to his cheek and keeping it there, you reply, “Yeah, I guess it does mean so, Toru-chan.”
A moment passes in pin drop silence between the two – the only sounds being the distant chatter of the party and the occasional wind blowing through the trees – before a wide grin breaks out across Gojo’s face, its absolute natural radiance banishing the darkness around you in a way a billion suns could never do – your grandmother’s flimsy paper lanterns or your vain guests’ mountains of gold and gems nothing but tiny specks of dust to the constellation of stars his joy reveals to you.
And in that instant, as Gojo presses a sweet kiss to your forehead and wraps his arms around you, excitedly describing the new dessert café he discovered on his last mission and the matcha eclairs you just can’t not try – you swear to yourself that you will do anything to keep that blinding beauty of his smile unharmed – even throw away your life, if that’s what it takes.
[I'M LOW-KEY ASHAMED OF THIS LMAOOO]

Just for fun I ran to my desktop to aid me with Google translate, which isn't perfect. But given that I don't know Japanese myself....
Here's what I found; on my own, with only translate and my existing language skills.
This is wrong:
This is CLOSER, AND MORE INDICATED OF THE CORRECT SUBJECTS OF THE SENTANCE. :
While it isn't one to one, Japanese has a lot of feel and implication, from what I understand. There's a lot of context.
So I tried scanning the fan translations a few times just to see what it said on my own. I broke it down into parts:
AITSU: him, that guy (in this case, Izuku)
The "Nuguenee" part seems to mean "can't wipe it" or "to wipe away"
Kocchi- here
De nuguu - means something like 'take off with "
Eventually, I felt like it wasn't scanning off the screen well enough, and I actually WROTE THE KANJI in the translation of the panel out on paper, which was very interesting bc again, don't know or write Japanese.
But I scanned that:
(The word "if" is covered by the icon)
"IF YOU CANT WIPE IT OFF
I WILL WIPE IT HERE"
Shows that the verbiage used is "wipe," or "to wipe away," but it is SO MUCH CLOSER in spirit to "I'll step in for what he can't handle" and also the use of Aitsu indicated he is talking directly about Izuku.
I GET that the official translator's job is to try to capture the dialogue in a way that FLOWS for the new audience, since Japanese is a very differently constructed language than English.
They are supposed to find a way to translate certain things with keeping the mood and intent of the dialogue.
"OFA couldn't keep you in the ground, but we'll finish the job and then some"???
Where the hell did they get that???
I didn't dig any further back bc it might take a while but everyone has also pointed out that the original dialogue is a direct reference to the apology scene(I know it is in the fan translation but I think it is also being indicated that it is the same in Japanese as well? Pls fact check me of you desire)
So bc it was originally referring back to that scene, there is an added STING that comes with this official translation
And the ADDITIONAL BLOW that is katsuki once again being kind of...pigeon holed into the aggressive, more self-focused kid that he once was...a caricature of his former self, instead of his emotionally upgraded, self assured, "needing to help Izuku or he will perish" self.....instead of letting this moment be a crazy cool declaration about how HE is the one you fuck with when Izuku needs help.
Which like yeah, in itself is a little bit agrandizing, HOWEVER it is literally also serving as a vow or a completion of his vow earlier in the story that he will take on what he can't handle!
It's super important for Katsukis arc! It acted as not only a THREAT to anyone who give Izuku a run for his money and tests the limits of his OFA, but a VOW to Izuku that HE HAS HIS BACK.
He just YELLED ABOUT IT on a battlefield, while Izuku is probably still staring at him with heart eyes.
And ultimately, there is NO REASON THE ORIGNAL TRANSLATION, WHICH PLAYS OFF THE OFFICIAL TRANSLATION OF THE APOLOGY SCENE CANNOT BE USED OFFICIALLY.
It reads properly, and packs a HELL OF A PUNCH EMOTIONALLY. More so than essentially "I'm gonna put you in the ground bc Izuku CAN'T"
It seems like the fan translation kept the literal meaning but added the flavor to make it flow, such as "stepping in" "to handle" and calling Izuku a Nerd. But the official translation just tweaked it by too much to where it just reads differently and most importantly, doesn't carry that punch.
In conclusion, I did a little bit of independent research and decided that YEAH it doesn't make sense why they translated it so wildly different. Other than just wanting Bakugou to remain a frigging caricature, even in the Finale.
#bnha spoilers#which i mean at least they used the word we for putting him in the ground??#maybe sorta implying that he and deku are gonna work together but dammit#this is again based on my shallow knowledge on foreign language reading#of which i do not know japanese#so huge disclaimer#BUT IT LOOKS LIKE I CAME TO THE SAME CONCLUSIONS AS THE FAN TRANSLATORS#bakudeku#caleb critical#i dont usually come for caleb but idk this one got me a bit apicy#its just cus i dont know japanese myself#but like when i can put it into GOOGLE TRANSLATION AND GET SOMETHING DIFFERENT#just let katsuki Bakugou have his undying devotion and get to shout about it okkkk#bakugou katsuki#i hear its usually bakugou getting shafted by translation#basically stop making Bakugou a violent trash mouthed caricature#when he has his huge moments LET HIM HAVE THEM#let him have his emotions

im begging ppl to use just a pinch of common sense pls.
i keep seeing people bringing up the ‘season 4 in production’ and ‘season 4 cancelled’ things from the chapter 276 translations and. I am BEGGING people to
1) understand the concept of a joke.
2) use an ounce of common sense and realize that maybe ‘trust me bro’ is not, in fact, a reliable source
3) the 3rd season literally only had 5 episodes out at that point. no anime ever is going to announce a new season at that point.
The ‘season 4 in production’ announcement was made by a snipe scan team on a very poor translation of the chapter, presumably to screw with people by making bank on the fact that the vast majority of readers do not speak/read Japanese and will not bother to fact check(it’s NOT in fact, that hard to find the raws and throw it quickly through google translate for a rough idea of what it says if u wanna check). We do NOT get anime news like that in the manga. On top of that the place it was put, said NOTHING about the anime (it was the blurb box that mentioned Opera being a SD and teacher). It was fake, stop treating it like legit news(like, there was LITERALLY no source guys come on).
The ‘s4 cancelled’ was a JOKE meant to poke fun at that translation (you would think by now ppl would realize that the Misfit Scans team has, a sense of humor). Also the box it was put in was the ‘to be continued’ one(i.e, one with nothing important in it).
We do not know if or when s4 is coming. And any news about it will be posted on the official anime twitter, not in the manga.
#Mairimashita! Iruma-kun#Welcome to Demon School! Iruma-kun#Mairuma#i am begging this fandom to use their goddamn brains on this one

hiii hiii i am back (on my searching for opla oc crumbs voyage bc my exam-taking ass needs to live through y’all rn), and again i would like to screech abt Sun bc umm?? how could you give her so much pain?? also i need to know more abt her power?? like what does the sairen sairen no mi do and is it the fruit that gave Sun her full name or is it just a coincidence since it sounds very much like siren (if that was intentional i would like to steal your brain for naming oc purposes thank you /j); pls and thank you and i hope you feel better soon!! (if you’re still feeling under the weather that is..?)
Oh babe you can come here for crumbs anytime, it be keeping the hyperfixation going 🤩
I hope you're doing well aside from the exam taking. I'm actually alright, even though rn I am feeling more under the uterus than the weather 😂
Let's preface today's deep dive by me reassuring you that you do not - not - wanna be me when it comes to naming OCs. Literally, for like the first week her name was "either Lya or Sun", followed by a few days of her being "probably Sun but WHAT THE FUCK AM I GONNA DO ABOUT HER LAST NAME???" 🤣
And THEN as I proceeded to look for her special power was when it all came together -
I knew I didn't want to give her a Haki (mostly because she is a Shanks!OC and he already is The Conquerer's Haki Dude), so devil fruit it was. I spent a day or so going up and down and back up the list of known devil fruits and didn't find a single one that tickled my pickle. But - like so many times over the past weeks - it was @bravelittleflower to the rescue, because she pointed me to the mythical zoan devil fruits who basically turn people who eat them into mythical creatures and I decided that "fuck it, Imma just make my own"
By that time I had already gotten it in my head that I wanted "Lya or Sun Whatever-The-Hell-her-name-is" to be a more feminine, sensual character (maybe because Nami, at least in the beginning, was a little too Not Like The Other Girls for my taste ^^'), so sth of the nymph/dryad/mermaid/siren variety seemed like an obvious choice.
Google translate told me the Japanese word for siren was "sairen", making her fruit the Sairen Sairen No Mi and my brain just took the jump from there to "Sun the Siren / Sairen Sun" and since I still hadn't found a last name I liked, I thought a moniker that was actually given to her in the brothel at Shells Town would be a great place holder. It also makes for a pretty great pirate name tbh. ^^
(she has a last name btw, a last name we will learn later on and it comes with ✨drama✨ attached)
When we start the story, Sun doesn't know who gave her the fruit and she isn't really all that clear on the true magnitude of her powers. When we meet her, she simply has to touch men (and probably some women, too 😏) and tell them what she wants them to do.
(that did come in handy when teenage!Sun was looking to avoid chores at the bar or when harbour whore Sun left the less savory clients with the distinct impression that putting their hands on themselves rather than her would be the height of extasy 😈)
Her power doesn't work in active fight situations, which is why she is also able to hold her own with knives (although Zoro sees a lot of room for improvement and - much to Sanji's dismay - takes it upon himself to train her xD).
Maybe it's also her power that makes it easy for her to make friendships (one of the reasons Nami doesn’t like her at first is a kind of envy at how easy it is for Sun to fit in with this new group of people while she has to keep her distance). It could be that it makes people more open to her, but it's actually sth that makes her less self assured rather than more, because there is always that little bit of doubt about wether people care about her or if it's just her power at play.
I am also looking to expand on her powers as the story progresses (one version of the "Sun and Shanks reunite" ideas especially has great potential for Shanks trying to teach her to really tap into her ability).
"And how exactly do I do that?" - "You use it on me." 🥵

HEADCANON / UNOHANA’S ZANPAKUTO
In its sealed state, Unohana’s zanpakuto is a long, slightly curved blade- similar to that of a nodachi. The guard is a simple oval shape, engraved with a thin border made up of several tiny hash markings. Its handle is a deep, rich red in color ( a striking, if not obvious resemblance to the hue of blood ). Unohana carries her zanpakuto over her shoulder with a thin strap, as opposed to securing its sheathe to her obi. She’s also known to entrust her sword to Isane to carry for her.
Her zanpakuto’s thematic element is heavily rooted in Noh Theater, specifically the act of wearing a mask to depict a character or portray a certain role, but artfully so. Reflective of her hidden nature, Unohana’s shikai manifests in a manner almost completely different and seemingly detached/unrelated to her bankai. It should be noted, however, that the primary function of both is to heal or extract impurities.
SHIKAI / MINAZUKI ( 肉雫唼, Flesh-Drops’ Gorge )
Upon its release command “Purify”, Minazuki morphs into a green gaseous substance before taking the solid form of a giant, green, one eyed manta ray like creature with the ability to fly. Its appearance could be interpreted as a manifested Kishin, a spirit or other-worldly creature. Minazuki can be used as a form of transportation, and will change back into its gaseous state before returning to its sword form when its duty has been fulfilled ( or when Unohana deems it so ). Minazuki appears to follow Unohana’s verbal orders, and doesn’t necessarily require her to invoke the proper name of the ability she wishes it to use. In this, it acts more like a familiar to Unohana than most Zanpakuto to their wielders.
Shishiguchi no Man’noyaku ( 獅子口, Shishiguchi’s Panacea): When the wounded are placed within Minazuki’s mouth, they are swallowed and stored inside its stomach. Its stomach acids are strong healing medicines and ointments which gradually soak over the wounded, curing their injuries. Minazuki can carry at least six people within its stomach. Upon Unohana’s orders, Minazuki will regurgitate the people back out of its mouth once healed.
Shikami no Doku ( 顰の毒, Shikami’s Venom): The antithesis of Minazuki’s healing process; it will absorb all poisons, infections, and tainted blood into itself as it extracts the injuries from the wounded. It stores this amalgamate in its system, distilling it as a strong toxin which it can regurgitate from its mouth at Unohana’s command and be used as a weapon.
Kurohige no Hiko ( 黒髭 , Kurohige’s Flight): When manifesting in its physical form, Minazuki becomes large enough to transport at least a dozen people on its back alone. Its “wings” stretch out from its body and allows it to glide through the air. Interestingly enough, it’s size and weight seem to have little to no effect on its ability to fly.
Yakan no Henkan (野干の変換, Yakan’s Transformation): Minazuki has the ability to alter its physical appearance at will. It can sprout limbs, and change its physical form to a gaseous state. The limit to this ability is unknown, and doesn’t appear to adhere to an equivalent exchange of mass given how large its physical manifestation is compared to its smaller sword form.
BANKAI / MINAZUKI ( 皆尽, All Things’ End )
Upon its invocation, Minazuki will altogether forego a physical form and its blade will instead transform into a thick liquid state, closely resembling blood. Once the majority of this liquid flows off her blade, it reveals the remainder which has solidified into a shortened katana. She uses this blade for combat, strong and sturdy enough to even withstand attacks from Kenpachi Zaraki’s blade. Coupled with her unparalleled skill and knowledge in swordsmanship styles, this makes for a deadly weapon despite its outward simplicity.
Uchizue (打杖, Dozen Cane): Small daggers formed from the red liquid that flows off Minazuki’s blade. They appear as shards of hardened blood, and have the same durability as her sword itself. She can create up to six separate daggers at a time, and uses them to injure her opponent in what some might call a “dirty” method of fighting.
Kyu no Mai (急之舞, Rapid Dance): Minazuki’s passive ability that greatly enhances Unohana’s speed in battle.
Engeki wa Owatta (演劇は終わった, The Play Is Over): Minazuki’s most powerful technique. When invoked, Minazuki will begin to affect all ‘impurities’ within its range ( both the opponent, and Unohana herself ) by melting the flesh off the targets’ body — ‘purification’ through complete eradication in what is essentially a one-hit kill ability. Though this move affects Unohana, she is able to withstand its effect due to her Kaidou mastery and heals herself as she is exposed to the ability. Additionally, despite the fact that they subject her to this ability, Minazuki doesn’t wish to completely kill their wielder.

✶ 𝐇𝐗𝐇 𝐓𝐇𝐄𝐌𝐄𝐒: 𝐋𝐈𝐆𝐇𝐓 & 𝐇𝐎𝐋𝐈𝐍𝐄𝐒𝐒, 𝐃𝐄𝐀𝐓𝐇 & 𝐃𝐀𝐌𝐍𝐀𝐓𝐈𝐎𝐍 Long story short, I have been thinking about this for wayyyyy too long now and wanted to get some ~thoughts~ & analysis written down! This post is going to be...fairly long, lol. Apologies in advance :D
Also, if you can’t see the last gif (the one for ‘holy’), click here. Tumblr keeps fucking up the image when i try to upload it :////
This post is probably going to be about 2/3 yorknew & phantom troupe/kurapika focused, 1/3 chimera ants, maybe with some references to other arcs (including manga-only arcs) mixed in. so, ofc, tons of spoilers ahead! also, i realize that my blog theme is hard to read (and i’m p sure clicking ‘keep reading’ sends you to the og post itself), so i’m linking the post w/ full text copy/pasted in on my art backup side blog (which has a more legible font) here.
✶ 𝐃𝐄𝐀𝐓𝐇 I’m sure absolutely nobody is surprised with me starting here - there is just. SO. MUCH. DEATH. in hxh. & right from the start, one thing I noticed that togashi really emphasized was the #4 and its connection to death. in japanese, chinese, and im p sure some other asian cultures the number 4 is pronounced like the word for death so it’s associated with death in general, and boy oh boy does the ‘deadly number 4′ thing show up E V E R Y W H E R E. we get to the hunter exam, and hisoka is applicant #44. kurapika is #404. i didn’t notice it at first, but this was so intentional holy shit. togashi is NOT SUBTLE.
So pika & hisoka are, right off the bat, associated with death. okay. and then there are even more clues to drive the point home: hisoka is member #4 in the phantom troupe, kurapika’s birthday is april 4th (aka 4/4). 100% not a coincidence (!!). with hisoka, it’s pretty obvious why togashi’s throwing all this death 444444 stuff around - dude is a psycho murder pedo clown, literally gets off on killing people (and there’s also the fact that judas sits 4th from the left in the last supper painting, and he’s sort of the judas equivalent for the phantom troupe). with kurapika, though, it’s a bit more subtle and woven deeper into his characterization, which i LOVE. togashi puts the mans in blue & gold & white (traditionally ‘pure’ or ‘heavenly’ colors), makes him so fucking kind & so good-hearted.....when he’s not relentlessly pursuing his revenge, ofc. more on this in the next section, but pika = death. togashi has made that v v v clear.
Backtracking a bit to hisoka, though, I also just wanted to point out the 4 is death symbolism in the fortunes too (GOD i love the fortunes): in one translation, he’s the false fourth moon, and in the og japanese (i think), he’s the false hare (4th in the lunar zodiac or w/e it’s called. i don’t know the japanese cultural influences here, but in the chinese legend that established the zodiac animals, they race across the heavenly river & the top 12 animals got zodiac slots. the hare finished 4th, so it’s #4 in the cycle).
And just as a final note, Tserriednich is the fourth prince of the kakin empire, and also another dude who has a hard-on for murder & other gory shit. again: togashi is not subtle with this, lmfao
✶ 𝐇𝐎𝐋𝐘, 𝐔𝐍𝐇𝐎𝐋𝐘 As probably everyone who’s gotten to yorknew knows, togashi is so 0 fucks given when he wants to be. I mean there’s the whole thing where he just. took New York and decided, Yorknew. LMFAO, but also, he made the main antag of that arc be named chrollo lucilfer, sit around in a ruined church, have a reversed cross coat, pale & dark-haired/dark-eyed, generally dressed in dark colors, very terrible murder guy. liiiike......chrollo x devil symbolism game is 1000/10 at this point lmaooo
And i know absolutely nothing about christianity in general, but pt/kurapika & yorknew arc is just so full of christian imagery/symbolism! one thing that i L O O O O O O V E though is how togashi really blurs the traditional christian-coded good/evil, holy/damned boundaries.
Back to kurapika: he wears gold and blue, his coloring is very stereotypically ‘angelic’, he’s precious and good and kind. his chains are all about ~judgment~ and ~healing~ - some of the chains are also in literal cross shapes, aren’t they? And the chain dagger in his own heart...the imagery is very startlingly similar to the immaculate heart of mary, where the swords stabbing thru the heart apparently represent seven sorrows. IDK much about this stuff other than the visual similarities; literally had to google ‘daggers through heart christianity?’ to even get the name of that thing LOL. anyway, at first, it seems like togashi establishes him as the ‘angel’, the ‘good’, the ‘holy’ in the angel/devil, good/evil, holy/damned dichotomy between him and chrollo.
But that’s not the end of the story. his entire storyline is driven by a huuuuuuuge giant desire for vengeance, first of all, and then there’s the scarlet eyes, which canonically are seen as demonic/cursed/what have you (according to one of the movies or smth? where they show pika as a 10 y/o?), and then we also have red eyes in modern culture being associated w pretty much the same thing (vampires, anyone?). the fight scene with uvo has everything in b&w besides the blood on his face & his red eyes & the moon (<<< more fortune foreshadowing & symbolism, i love to see it), and there are tonssss of scenes where he has to suppress his rage. so all of that is obviously not very angelic of him i would say LOL. in fact, what i find super interesting is that the scarlet/red eyes (which are ‘demonic’) is actually the driving factor behind his super powerful nen abilities; this ties in so well with the fortunes & death associations imo! the fortunes call him the ‘death-bringer’ in one translation, or ‘half-angel, half-death’, so that’s one side of pika = red eyes = death, but there’s also the fact that emperor time is literally draining his life force. so pika = death for both himself and others namely the pt, question mark?
Now for chrollo: togashi’s devil symbolism is EXTREMELY overt with him, but i love the subtler jesus references too. the church thing, obviously, and the st. peters cross which is cuz st peter respected jesus too much & didn’t think he was worthy to die in the same way as him (or something like that, i am the most atheist person in the world & hxh is literally my entire christian education pls) but is also used as an anti-christianity symbol these days. bandit’s secret looks like a bible, lbr, and mans has a cross tattoo.
Other things beyond visuals - 12 spiders, 12 apostles; hisoka’s betrayal, where member #4 can be thought to correspond to judas sitting 4th from left at last supper. and this miiiiight be a bit of a stretch, but i think the meteor city being the place of origin may also play into the blurred line between angel/devil and holy/damned here; meteors are defined as space rocks that are in earth’s atmosphere, becoming incandescent in the process. meteorites are for the kinds that actually reach the ground. and idk, lucifer was cast out of heaven / sky too right? so i think there might be some subtle fallen angel imagery/symbolism playing into the pt as well
✶ 𝐋𝐈𝐆𝐇𝐓 (𝐀𝐍𝐃 𝐃𝐀𝐑𝐊𝐍𝐄𝐒𝐒) Last section yay! i don’t have as much to say about this, besides when i was making chimera ant arc edits & realized that there might have been some subtle gon/meruem parallels???
So obviously, everyone knows that line killua says to gon - “you are light” - and then i was just remembering that meruem’s name means.... “light that illuminates all” (!!!!). maybe it’s a coincidence, but knowing togashi, i’m leaning towards nahhhh. there HAS TO be some kinda meaning there (!!).
Going back to the events of the chimera ant arc....ooh boy. let’s see: gon is optimistic & hopeful even in the face of kite potentially being dead, killua says he’s light, they find kite & dude is fucked up, gon is pissed. gets all angry & ~dark~, especially during the palace invasion when he’s staring pitou down as she fixes up komugi. then the actual fight against pitou: more darkness, more anger, but through it all there’s still light, namely his jajanken being very orange & fiery lookin.....and that final sequence, where he puts all his possible nen he’d ever have into his ~final form~ or wahtever & turns into a male version of true form!bisky but dressed in a crop top & short-shorts (i am SCARRED, btw. s c a r r e d !). there’s just huuuge flashes of light as that’s going on, and it reminded me of supernovas or dying stars when i was thinking about it, where the star is like, collapsing under its own weight? & burning thru its own fuel, until there’s nothing left except a dwarf or black hole or what have you. one final, extremely deadly burst of light & energy before death.
On the meruem side of things: born into a dark cave, exhibits a traditionally evil/cruel/wicked/whatever personality/traits so that has ppl associating him with darkness. then he gets to know komugi, starts to appreciate other aspects of humanity, seems like he could have actually turned into a decent person who doesn’t want to eat everyone - so that’s a ‘path to light’, maybe? - and then the extermination team yeets themselves into the palace, netero takes him out to bumfuck nowhere, they fight. netero’s fighting is just ALL light, from his giant ass golden 100-type guanyin bodhisattva to the poor man’s rose. again, there’s the sense of finality to it all, in a similar vein to dying stars: netero comes in determined to kill meruem no matter what, and we all know netero doesn’t flake. then we see netero get destroyed after the zero hand, and he triggers the rose, and everything is burning & on fire before the flames are put out and all turns dark again.
But wait!!! pouf & youpi revive meruem and all he does is play gungi with komugi, even with the poison of the rose. he eventually dies, and the gungi pieces in that final shot of them together (i am BAWLING just thinking about it holy shit) has one that’s all white, one that’s a black ring and white inside. i assume all white is for komugi, who has never done ANYTHING wrong in her LIFE, so i like to think that the 2nd one is for meruem - born “into darkness”, literally & figuratively, but he turns something like ‘good’ by the end. it’s interesting how togashi has sort of gone for a bit of a subversion here: the hero going from light to darkness, and the main antag from darkness to light.
✶ 𝐂𝐎𝐍𝐂𝐋𝐔𝐒𝐈𝐎𝐍 AahhhhHHHHHhhh so if you read all the way down here through my LONG rambles, tysm! i would LOVE LOVE LOVE to hear what other people think about all this, and i’ve FOR SURE missed tons and tons of stuff - chimera ants is just. SO MUCH. and i don’t know it as well as yorknew eeek.
I’m not sure if i’m really ~knowledgeable~ in any other areas relating to hxh, so this might be the only one of these that i do, but i definitely think about some of this - esp all the religious symbolism & #4 stuff - a ton! so in the meantime, if it’s of any interest, i’m just going to shamelessly plug my hxh x religious beliefs/superstitions edit series :D lots of love to all!!!

SSR Tasuku [Solid Mankai Black]: Backstage Translation
Distraction is real, I will upload the epilogue in a few mins after this one...
Anyway, literal translation for the card name is ‘Jet Black Mankai Black’, but repeating the word ‘Black’ in English sounds very awkward so I got a suggestion to put it as ‘Solid’ for ‘Solid Black’ instead.
Summary:
Touring with Tasuku that ends up with more shenanigans. I’m still suck at summary, please excuse me.
Translation is under the cut as per usual and the card I’m referring to is this one, chuuni Tasuku~ Enjoy~
Disclaimer:
A3! is owned by Liber Entertainment
Translator’s Note: Retort pouch curry is packaged curry(?). Just google it if you want to see how it looks like I guess.
Gakuran is a type of Japanese school uniform.
Youth Extra Appearance
Director:
Yeah, it’s delicious!
Kumon:
This sandwich is so delicious!
Omi:
That’s great.
Juza too, would you like to add some cream?
Juza:
Yeah.
Tasuku:
Morning.
Director:
Good morning. Were you running again?
Tasuku:
No, I was riding the bike today.
I didn’t let it run recently.
But I was thinking that I want to go touring soon.
Omi:
Ah, that sounds great.
The weather’s nice recently too.
Juza:
Right.
Kumon:
I also want to ride behind my brother again~!
Juza:
Yeah, I’ll let you ride behind me next time.
Kumon:
Alright~! It’s a promise!
TV:
“Wolf Ranger, assembled!”
Director:
Ah, that’s the show I saw last time.
Kumon:
It seems to be the current Sentai series!
Juza:
He… It’s that kind of feels.
Tasuku:
…
Director:
(Tasuku-san’s staring intently at the television.
He might have been influenced by Shouta-kun.)
<Shifts to Door>
Director:
Coming.
Delivery Man:
You have a delivery.
Director:
Thank you so much.
Mid-year gift…
I wonder who it’s from.
(The sender is… Hero Show management company?
They went all the way to send this to us.)
<Shifts to Lounge>
Director:
(I wonder what’s inside.)
Tasuku:
What’s with the stuffs.
Director:
Tasuku-san, what a great timing!
It’s a mid-year gift we received from the Hero Show management company from that time.
Tasuku:
Hee, I see.
What’s inside?
Director:
I’m going to open it now—
!?
Tasuku:
This is…
Director:
Previous generation Sentai Heroes’ retort-pouch curry…!
Tasuku:
If you look at it closely, it seems to be made for children.
Director:
The tension’s getting pretty high with this much packed inside.
In addition, it’s curry too…!
Tasuku:
It’s not only curry, it seems that there’s a postcard inside too.
Director:
Ah, you’re right.
Eh umm—
“Thank you for the previous time.
If you would like, please enjoy it with everyone.”
They even write the postcard politely… I have to send my gratitude to them later.
The photos at the back looks very beautiful too.
Tasuku:
It seems to be a port somewhere.
Director:
Perhaps, it’s a sacred place from the Hero Series or something.
Tasuku:
…I see.
It doesn’t seem to be a mistake.
Director:
Really?
Tasuku:
Like what Director said, it looks like a famous garden from a location in the Sentai series.
Look, this one.
Director:
Ah, you’re right…!
I don’t expect it to really be a sacred place…
After saying that, now I feel like going there~
It’s such a beautiful place after all.
Tasuku:
Then, why don’t we go together?
Director:
Eh, really, is it fine?
Tasuku:
It was just right that I was thinking of letting my bike run a bit more.
The distance seems just nice too if it’s this place.
Director:
I want to go!
(Touring with Tasuku-san, I’m looking forward to it.)
<End of Part 1>
Director:
I’m glad it’s sunny today.
I’m looking forward to spend the day with you!
Tasuku:
Yeah. It’s the ideal weather for touring.
Director:
It’s been a while since I wear this helmet that I’ve received from Tasuku-san.
Tasuku:
Have you forgotten how to fasten the helmet?
Director:
I’m fine, I remember it properly!
…There, I’m done!
Tasuku:
The front belt, it’s twisted you know.
Director:
Really? ….Ah, here is it.
Eh umm… Eh?
Tasuku:
Geez… Come, turn this way.
Director:
Sorry, thank you for fixing it.
Tasuku:
Then, let’s go.
Director:
Yes!
<Shifts to Park>
Director:
Fuh… The wind feels great!
Tasuku:
It’s been a while since I let it run, as expected it feels nice.
Director:
The scenery’s beautiful too, since we’re here why don’t we take a short walk.
Tasuku:
Yeah.
Director:
…Hmm? It seems that people are gathering over there.
I wonder what’s happening?
Tasuku:
They have equipment around, is it a shooting?
Staff:
Eh, are you perhaps, Tasuku?
Tasuku:
…Yoshida-san?
Director:
(It’s Tasuku-san’s acquaintance I guess?)
Yoshida:
Are you still doing theatre?
Tasuku:
Still continuing.
Yoshida:
…I see.
That woman over there… Perhaps, your girlfriend?
Director:
Eh! No no, you’re mistaken!
Tasuku:
She’s the director of my theatre troupe.
Yoshida:
Theatre troupe…? If that’s the case then just nice!
Tasuku:
Yes?
Yoshida:
Actually, we’re in the middle of shooting a special program for a Sentai series now, there’s a vacancy for extras and I need to make the arrangement for it.
If you’re fine with it, can I get the two of you to make the appearance.
Director:
Eh!?
Yoshida:
It’s a role with one or two lines, but of course, I believe that Tasuku-san and troupe director-san are used to it right.
Can I request for your help, please?
Director:
I’m sorry, but I myself have stayed away from performance for a while…
Anyway, I’m not confident in acting.
Yoshida:
It’s fine. You just need to appear for a little bit!
It’s the role of teenage student couple, so I want you to wear school uniform though…
Director:
School uniform!?
(In addition, the role of student couple…)
Yoshida:
There’s only one line for the dialogue.
Think of it as helping others!
Director:
Even if you say that…
Tasuku:
Yoshida-san, I’m sure you know my age.
I don’t think I can wear that kind of thing.
Yoshida:
If you decide to appear, I’ll put your names on the ending credit as well.
I can put the troupe name in too if you want to.
Director:
Ending credit…? Are you for real?
Yoshida:
Of course., since I’m asking for a favour from you guys.
Director:
…
Tasuku:
Oi… You don’t say.
Director:
Tasuku-san, should we do it?
Tasuku:
…Are you serious?
Director:
If it’s this way, it might become a good publicity for the theatre troupe.
Yoshida:
Yes yes, you don’t know when another chance like this might come up again.
Director:
Let’s do it!
I’ll do my best with all I have too…!
Yoshida:
I’ll depend on you too, Tasuku.
Tasuku:
…Hah, I have no choice right.
<End of Part 2>
Director:
(I tried taking it for myself and change, but…
As expected, I’m not comfortable wearing a school uniform.
I wonder if Tasuku-san’s done changing?)
Tasuku:
I can’t believe I’m wearing a school uniform at this age.
Director:
Eh… Tasuku-san, don’t look so uncomfortable with it!
Tasuku:
How can I not.
I can’t help but to think of what age I would be this year.
[
[
Choice 1: You look really cool.
Director:
I’m not flattering you, but it really looks cool on you.
Tasuku:
Geez…
…If you say that, it fits Director pretty well too.
Director:
Eh? Really?
Tasuku:
Yeah, don’t look so uncomfortable with it.
Director:
That, what do you mean by that!
Tasuku:
I’m just joking. It really fits you.
Director:
…If Tasuku-san said so, I guess I feel a bit more confident now.
Tasuku:
You’re such a simple person.
]
]
[
[
Choice 2: It sure looks fresh.
Director:
It feels like I’m meeting the high school version of Tasuku-san, it sure is a fresh feeling.
Tasuku:
My body is of an adult though.
Director:
Tasuku-san, if I’m not wrong your high school wears gakuran too right.
After all, I wasn’t able to see Tasuku-san’s photos…
Tasuku:
Does that kind of thing happened…
Eh, was it the time when we went to Tsumugi’s house.
Director:
But, I can’t help to think that it will feel exactly like this and it’s cute.
Tasuku:
…I want you to tell me how you can look at it as cute.
]
]
Tasuku:
To appear in this kind of role, definitely don’t tell anyone on the troupe.
Director:
You’re right… Even if it’s for the sake of publicizing, I’m still against wearing school uniform.
Yoshida:
Oh, it seems that you guys are ready.
It fits the two of you very well!
Well then, can I give you a brief explanation.
Tasuku:
Understood.
Director:
Pl, pleased to work with you!
<Shifts to Dorm>
Kumon:
Today’s breakfast is delicious as always!
Azuma:
Thanks for the meal.
Director:
Azuma-san, would you like to drink some coffee?
Azuma:
Thank you.
Tasuku:
Morning.
Director:
Ah, Tasuku-san.
Breakfast is ready.
TV:
“Following this, a large gathering of Sentai heroes from previous generation! Look forward to it!”
Kumon:
Eh, it seems that there will be another new Sentai series starting!
Azuma:
Hee, it seems that they’re doing a special program.
Director:
(Eh, is this maybe…)
Narration:
“This is a Port Town somewhere in the world…
People lived in peace.”
Director:
“Today’s date was fun. Thank you.”
Tasuku:
“Me too.
…Let’s go out like this again together someday.”
Kumon:
Hmm? Hmm?
Wait, I can’t tell from afar but…
These two, isn’t it Director and Tasuku-san!?
Azuma:
You’re right.
Fufu, I never thought I’ll be able to see the two of you in school uniform.
Kumon:
A couple role some more! Amazing!
Tasuku:
… Haa.
Director:
(We got found out so fast…!)
No, there’s a reason for this…
Masumi:
What’s this, what’s the meaning of this.
Director:
Masumi-kun!?
Tasuku:
Since when…
Azuma:
You got found out by the person you don’t want to find out the most.
Director:
Eh, this is more or less, a job that we took for publicity purposes…
Masumi:
I also want a uniform date with you.
Director;
Eh? That!?
Masumi:
It’s not fair if it’s only Tasuku who can have a uniform date with you.
Director:
For the uniform to have such force…
But anyway, Masumi-kun have also graduated from high school, right?
Masumi:
Even Tasuku wore it, so I thought it’s fine for me to wear it too.
Tasuku:
… This, I guess you won’t listen to whatever we say.
Director:
Wait, Tasuku-san!?
Aren’t you going to help me!
Kumon:
Masumi-san, you’re the same as ever~!
Azuma:
Fufu, it seems this battle will continue for a while.
<End of Part 3>

hi !! idk how long its been (awhile) but long enough that i have scrolling through ur posts that i haven't read bc i don't have an attention span -H (ok but how long has it been i can't tell android mobile doesn't show dates(???) so i can't tell idk how far back to think back in terms of talking abt stuff but neway) (the last ask i sent in was abt the witcher right how long ago was that it seems not that long ago but also forever ago at the same time)
oh yea abt the witcher u said it was on netflix so if i watched it without any other knowledge id be fine right -H (like,, i assume so(??) but i just wanted to check or smth idk)
but !!! neway !!! idk what to say uhhh bts came out with a new song, your eyes tell, for,, a japanese show or smth& its so pretty like
i kinda made a promise with myself not to get into any other groups until i could understand their korean but i also forgot i made that promise until like 2 days ago so for the last week ive been getting into stray kids ! now the next asks will be me rambling abt them just bc. before i got interested in their music the only thing i knew abt them was they did an ok boomer song called gone days they dont actually say ok boomer but it amounts to the same thing& i think that's very iconic of them -H
one of the members felix is apparently bi so !!!! i love him !!!! -H (he never explicitly said it but someone asked what his ideal type was& he asked if they meant for boys or girls& then described both so) (i mean he also might not be i don't wanna assume or anything so im just kinda sitting here& quietly believing while also not at the same time yknow) (also he's so so pretty !!! u could just search up felix stray kids rq& see but he has freckles !! excuse me while i cry !!!!)
theres also chan& i love him !!!! hes got that gives rly good hugs vibe so my only goal in life is for him to hug me pls chan ily. he was recently doing a live& someone asked him what they should do bc theyre on their period or smth& he said "ppl with periods" rather than just "girls" which was !! so nice& inclusive im crying !! -H (also him& felix r from australia so they speak fluent english so this isnt a rough translation or anything !!its just what he said i would die for him !!)
oh !!!!! short pause in my skz rambling bc i forgot to tell u that i cut my hair !!!!!! its like a pixie cut so its rly short& i love it so much !!!!!! now all i need to do is redye it& nobody will ever think im straight again -H (i noticed ive been using a lot of exclamation marks this time around& i have no idea why that is skdjdh)
yea so stray kids,,,,, they have a performance video for their song boxer& i !! love it !! idk smth abt their dance for it is so like,, bouncy& it's rly fun to watch felix does this spin kick idk what it's called but it's cool as hell. jisungs mannerisms r also amazing& i love changbin there's a part wheres he's in the middle& it's Esp Bouncy& the way he says boxer is so cool felixs is cooler but it's still cool idk i just like the video a lot -H
uhh thats another thing ud need to watch to understand but u dont have to& thats not gonna stop me neway !!!! theres another song i am you where changbin says smth that roughly translates to "its too cold outside to be alone by myself / its warm here, maybe bc ur here"& in the mv the camera zooms out& u see that hes laying with the other members every time i see it i feel like im being punched in the gut bc thats so cute ???? thats so soft wtf is that even allowed ???? pls i love them -H
anyway that concludes my session of infodumping stay tuned later for more of my rambling uhhhh bye ily -H
---------------------------------
I also have no clue how long it’s been because I have NO sense of time lol, so don’t worry about it. I’m just happy to hear from you whenever you come around!!
And yes, you can watch Witcher without ANY background knowledge! Just jump right into the show! That’s what I did lol, I’m only getting into the books and games because I started hyperfixating very strongly, lol. It’s not, like, a requirement, I just really enjoy them (and really any Witcher content lol), so I decided to get into them. But yeah, no background knowledge needed, if you wanna get into it!
That is very iconic of them lol, love that for them. I think I’ve heard of Stray Kids before? But I don’t know much K-pop, I really only know BTS because my younger sibling is really into their music (and I know more about them from you, of course, but I knew about BTS beforehand because of my sibling lol)
I looked up Felix, and yes he is very pretty! But it said “Australian Rapper” on google instead of his band name and that made me laugh lol. And that is very good of Chan!! They both sound very cool, and I hope one day you can hug them!!
Nice nice about the haircut, that is very cool!! What color are you gonna dye it, have you decided yet? I can’t remember what color you had before lol
The bouncy dance song sounds very cool!! I might look it up when I get to my earbuds, if I can remember to! Also, that is very soft and cute, also it’s a mood lol. Me with my friends, honestly. I miss my friends so much. How have you been doing in lockdown? I hope you’ve been doing okay!!
I love your infodumping every time, thank you for sharing with me! I love you too!! Thanks for brightening my day!! <3 <3 <3

About the EvaGeeks wiki and why you shouldn't trust it, concerning mainly one user.
On the subject of EvaGeeks: Let’s talk about the manipulation of information on the wiki, and perpetuated “nastiness” on the forums that has persisted for several years now. THIS IS A MIRROR OF THIS GOOGLE DOCS FILE. (My twitter post.) You can share this post or the original document freely, use parts of it, etc. I want this document to simply serve as a warning to new Eva fans and those less familiar with EvaGeeks and their history - as well as an update for people who haven’t seen the current state of it.
NOTE: If you can’t read any of these images, these are Imgur albums containing all of the notable ones: https://imgur.com/a/z2mGvvX https://imgur.com/a/oAgufc3
The intent of this document is not to “take down” the wiki or forum, obviously. The intent is simply to inform people of the dangers of trusting this site with their Eva info. It might be the best we have but that doesn’t mean we can’t improve it. I would actually love to see a more community cultivated version of the site with less biased information, but I fear that will never happen. The anxieties of any one (or many) individual(s), which have prevented consistent change until now are well justified, and it is not within reason to blame the outsiders for never bothering to correct the myriad of issues with the wiki. Please extend kindness to other Eva fans and approach sites like EvaGeeks with the appropriate scrutiny, if you aren’t already. We’re divided enough as it is.
Before I begin, I must state: All of the information presented is publicly available, either through main pages, chat logs or history. And yes, the link to join the Discord server and verify the information given in this is publicly available too. I will not link it myself, as I want to avoid any possible harassment of the users I speak about here. Harassment is NEVER the answer in any kind of conflict. This behaviour I don’t believe can go unchecked, but that doesn’t mean the consequences of it should be any kind of conflict towards any user. I will be naming them here so you are aware, but I really do have to advise you, as a reminder, DO NOT HARASS OR ENGAGE WITH THEM. The rule of thumb is that these issues are more systematic than you might think, and blaming or taking it out on a singular person or even a whole group is never justified. Targeted harassment, even with reason, especially never helps to remedy an issue, because it forces the person to double down on their behaviour and beliefs. Causing unnecessary pain to a person is never okay, and the ‘offences’ committed here aren’t deserving of it in the first place. Please also consider the feelings of the people who use the server and EvaGeeks site; not everyone is your "enemy" or your "target" (and frankly, no-one should be) and despite the feelings echoed in this document, EG is not a monolith of a singular opinion or belief.
The purpose of this document is to inform people of the ways EvaGeeks fails objectivity and has existed to push narratives and exclude outsiders for far too long. With new people coming into the Eva fandom (and there of course being others who have been around for quite a while but just aren't aware) I feel like now is the best time I could write this.
As for what prompted this, an anonymous member of the Discord server contacted me regarding the behaviour of one particular user they were concerned about. Said user had expressed considerable bias in the past and was admitting to making large edits to pages on the wiki very recently, and the person who contacted me felt unequipped to bring the issue to light themselves.
A decent amount of this document will be dedicated to presenting said user's contributions - while I feel someone always had to address the EvaGeeks Problem at large, it doesn't help that this user has essentially incriminated himself here to expose the problem in its entirety.
There is quite a bit of pretense I must discuss before I get into the subject of the wiki pages themselves. I suggest you read all of it; the start of the wiki section will be in heading text if you’d like to skip to it. I’m sure information on the biased editing of wiki pages is privy to anyone who has used the server or the site itself, but at the server’s current status of 60 entire members, I know not everyone has, or is aware of what the problem actually is. Please note that the person who contacted me has requested anonymity and I will be complying. I will not include screenshots of their conversation with me, and anything I quote from them will be paraphrased so nobody can go full Sherlock and analyse their typing patterns. It sounds silly and it’s probably just paranoia, but they shared my concern here. Any conflict we can prevent is for the best. EvaGeeks, of course, has a culture very much promoting the idea that it’s the “number 1 source for all things Eva”, and for English speaking fans it definitely is - you’d be surprised the amount of people who still, after all these years, think this site is consistently reputable. For the sake of context, I’m going to assume that you are not all that familiar with the site’s history or nature, so I’m going to provide a little bit of information about it for those without any first-hand experience. The forums in particular cultivate a very join-us-or-get-out type community, where those who dare to go against the grain get incentivised to leave the site; they’ll claim this isn’t the case if asked and obviously the site is NOT a hivemind but that doesn’t mean it’s not insular. I can vouch for myself and many others who refuse to go in more than a few threads for fear of discussion turning particularly nasty. Even the server member who came to me about this has stated they feel it “might not be a hivemind but it sure feels that way.” Silencing dissent, even when officially-backed, is part of their culture. You don’t have to personally harass everyone who has an opposing thought to you for it to not feel acceptable, you just need to have a history of mocking those who do. If you want some previous, notable cases of “discussion turning nasty”, here’s some off the top of my head: 1. The AWL Incident - In which ADV VA of Rei and director of EoE dub, Amanda Winn-Lee, joined the forums for discussion and was promptly harassed by a user. Most of these messages have been deleted but you can view what remains of her post history here. 2. Recently brought to my attention: upon beginning translation of the Episode 24 drafts, EG forum user LiLi was subjected to incentive to leave, mostly in the form of homophobic disgust in replies to her thread or others they were mentioned in. Any information that goes against the cultivated narrative, even when it is literally officially licensed content, is only ever considered with a degree of reluctance. The fact these drafts co-exist with other pages concerned with this episode is almost a miracle. You can find plenty of repeat instances of the above if you want to (more to do with homophobia and misogyny than outward hostility, but honestly it’s the same thing.) A look at basically any EvaGeeks thread concerning pairings or the female characters will unearth a variety of awful comments from many other users, not that that would be surprising to anyone who has spent more than two minutes in the fandom. Now, of course, that’s very relevant to the topic at hand even if it doesn’t seem to be. The EG wiki and forum have quite a bit of overlap and circular influence on each other as you’ll see later if you aren’t already aware of it. For a short summary before we jump into things and analyse our subject of the day, this essentially means that anyone with an opinion or information the majority doesn’t like will never get in a position good enough to edit the wiki and keep the edits there. This has resulted in many articles filled with conjecture and fan speculation that serve to shut down other viewpoints, whether it’s intentional or not.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
ON THE TOPIC OF THE EVAGEEKS WIKI
The issue surrounding homophobia and downplaying of references to LGB content in Eva, through proxy of fan-dictated content control and translation is not a new one by any stretch of the imagination. I'm sure you're all very well aware. It’s far from the only issue present in the fandom but it will be our subject of conversation today. Any ‘one instance’ of this persistent behaviour from Eva fans is never going to be enough to summarise how insurmountable it really is, though, so today I instead draw your attention to one user of the wiki who goes by the name of FelipeFritschF and his recent, frequent updates to pages concerning Nagisa Kaworu.
[TOPIC: FELIPEFRITSCHF]
I must reiterate here: although this document is mostly concerned with this user and will contain a number of receipts from various places, it is NOT supposed to function as a hit piece or inspire any kind of mob. Leave this guy the hell alone, just be aware that he’s the one making most of these changes and isn’t a particularly impartial party, to put things lightly.
Now, before we really get into things, it should be stated that the EvaGeeks wiki requires approval to get your edits there, as stated at the bottom of the homepage, here:
This means that anyone making consistent edits to the wiki has in fact been approved, and this isn’t the result of lack of maintenance.
What you’ll find is that it is consistently Felipe making edits to the pages in question. Kaworu’s bio page, for example, is almost entirely edited by Felipe, which we can see from the “History” tab of the article.
This is barely half of his edits made in the last few days. Take a scroll through it yourself if you’re so inclined. This hilarious bit of waffle was added by Felipe a few days ago and since revised since by him, as shown here.
(As an added bit of comedy, the man who decided to add in the Japanese in the first place apparently didn’t know the difference between 好意 (kindness, what Kaworu actually says) and 行為 (action). It’s been fixed since but I still think it’s quite funny.) Now, as anyone with even a rudimentary knowledge of Japanese knows, 好き is not actually a very ambiguous word at all. I think it goes without saying, though, and I’m not here to have an argument about translations with you all (for the record, Kanemitsu’s now scarily infamous translation of this scene is perfectly fine with me in a vacuum, it’s just literally everything else surrounding it that’s the problem. Also, regretfully, I will have to speak about this nonsense later when it becomes relevant.) I’m using this as an example instead, to show how utterly ridiculous this guy’s additions to these pages are. He’s not even making a point here. It keeps going past this excerpt, and I suggest you read the whole thing (Kaworu’s page is linked above.) The point of bringing this up - and when I eventually discuss the Netflix translation when it’s necessary - is not to complain about semantics, although I’d argue that’s what’s happening in these articles, honestly. It’s just helpful when proving the actual point of the editor being incredibly unreliable and biased in how he phrases and omits things.
On the page dedicated solely to Shinji and Kaworu’s relationship (which is basically identical to their section on Kaworu’s page as far as I can tell), we can see that Felipe has also edited this several times, and even credits himself with expanding the version on the Evangelion Fandom Wiki now copy and pasted back to EvaGeeks.
The kind of “discussion” (very much not discussion when added to a wiki page supposedly presented as factual information, is it, frankly?) would be fine if it was happening in the EvaGeeks forum itself (and happen does it ever, but that doesn’t change the inappropriateness of this particular behaviour.) What I find disturbing is that in the past few days, this user has gone out of his way to make some already worrying articles even worse, presumably in an attempt to silence discourse, or add more fuel to the flames, surrounding the new Netflix translation. He has a whole page on that one, too, one which is very up-to-date in some regards and not at all in others, despite only being added a few days before me compiling this information. Frankly, going through this whole page on its own is a huge waste of my time considering how BLATANT it is in its biases, but I’ll do it anyway. It IS only a Theory and Analysis page (which is essentially an EvaGeeks free-for-all), but I think it’s quite bothering that the site even allows Theory and Analysis pages that consider only one viewpoint and are written by one person. The forum, presumably, is connected to the site for a reason.
I’m just going to link it here, for the sake of brevity. https://wiki.evageeks.org/Theory_and_Analysis:Kaworu%27s_lines_in_Episode_24 I suggest you read this before continuing. For a slight departure, the original theatrical Funimation dub of 3.0 is partially available for viewing online, although the audio is in cam quality so you may want headphones if you have plans to watch what’s there. The home media dub’s major changes are to issues with lore and localisation of jargon. While not directly mentioned in this article, it is implied from the subject that this is what it’s about; it’s been speculated that the very literal translation of Episode 24 in particular has come about due to Khara’s embarrassment with how Funimation’s theatrical dub of 3.0 handled Kaworu and Shinji’s relationship rather loosely. Despite these claims, every instance of the two sharing (honestly pretty awkward and unnecessary) flirtatious back-and-forths are still present in the home media version, barring an instance in the stargazing scene where Kaworu’s dialogue was translated even worse than it is in the final dub. If you don’t believe me, do the comparisons yourself. It may not be conclusive, but I think it puts mostly to death the rumour that “a Khara employee was there and saw how people laughed at the Kaworu and Shinji scenes and demanded it needed to be changed for the final release and now that’s being reflected on the new translation”, which is what it tends to boil down to.
It also goes without saying that NO ONE PERSON is “the most qualified” (holy shit, is this entry not even bothering to hide how biased it is) to translate an entire TV show, let alone something like Evangelion. Let us not forget that Kanemitsu’s claims that he respects “ambiguity” are not even true to begin with. EvaGeeks itself is a shining example of Eva fans, of which Kanemitsu is one and this is even discussed in the article, not being impartial enough to be tasked with discussing Evangelion! (There is obviously issue with citing the ADV translation as a source of all truth; if you read further into the thread on my tweet [the kitchen scene in EoE], I provide extra context for those interested, which I am aware has been spread around Discord and other places without that context included. Of course, I’m not an unbiased source either as you can probably tell from my tweets nor am I claiming to be, so please feel free to discuss these things in other places if you want. I’ve just got the tweets I have on hand here. Sorry about that.) Next, the repeat claim that this is “Khara’s licensed translation and thus the most accurate version” is pretty obviously nonsense; I’m sure I don’t need to point out to the audience that Japanese companies meddling in localisation has ended poorly in the past, or that Khara uses questionable translations from the dubs of the Rebuild films on licensed merch from time-to-time, or that the translation was fairly obviously not overseen or even QA’d by anyone following Kanemitsu’s translation work judging from the myriad of grammatical errors, missing subtitles and overly literal, poor sounding phrasing present in the final work. (Do I need to source this? Just watch the damn thing.) It’s not even like the ways it was translated have been consistent through different versions on Netflix; some were translated from Kanemitsu’s English to other languages judging from the obvious mistakes being present in multiple tracks, and some were barely even translated at all - the Italian version, the dub of which is mysteriously now missing, was so bad people were commenting that it sounded like Shakespeare or that it was translated word for word from Japanese. I dunno about you, the reader, but something about “Khara only bothered to check very rigorously the English version for their specific requests with the translation” doesn’t sound like what really happened to me. It’s more like they’ve just sent a translator they have worked with before to work on a project of theirs. Apologies for engaging in speculation, but that’s all this whole article is anyway. It’s just something I noticed from skimming through the page, but I find it quite interesting that Felipe makes a blanket statement about the excerpts from Schizo and Prano “being wrongly attributed to Anno” and then the source he provides for that is just someone on the EvaGeeks forums saying the same thing with little proper sourcing, when that was never really the intent of their post anyway. An interview summary exists where Anno has stated he wrote both books himself, and if you haven’t seen it, here it is. It’s obviously flimsy at best, but Tokyo Otaku Mode is an officially licensed Evangelion distributor. If Felipe is going to parade around his love for the Very Official Khara Subtitles Of NGE he can at least extend the same gratitude to other forms of official information; I mean, frankly, this article is about as reputable as anything in the Netflix subtitles are. Lastly, another thing I found quite interesting is his strange love for the ADV VHS subtitles. I really, really think this is obvious, but subtitles changed in later versions of the ADV release were changed because they were deemed incorrect. I don’t have sources for this so take it with an absolute grain of salt but I believe there’s even a commentary track on the Platinum release where the translator talks in depth about why she translated episode 24 as she did. It’s not exactly a better word than Kanemitsu’s, but if we’re considering translator’s word as law for whatever reason like Felipe is here, we might as well consider hers, too, right? Oh, and actually, have a look at the sources used on that article. Most of the sweeping statements he makes have absolutely no backing beyond what he’s piecing together from old and irrelevant interviews (when discussing the Netflix translation) as well as...linking Kanemitsu’s job history...I mean, sure, the guy is qualified, but do I really need to go over this again?
INTERMISSION: Speaking of sources, you might have noticed from perusing these articles yourself that EvaGeeks has a very low standard for sourcing to begin with, which is likely partially to blame for how things like these articles can even exist in their current forms in the first place. A site that doesn’t have such a lenient policy on sourcing, though, is Wikipedia. Felipe, of course, cannot stay within the confines of the fandom and has decided to have a go at providing some information to Kaworu’s actual Wikipedia page as well.
https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Kaworu_Nagisa&action=history Felipe is far less to blame for the state of Kaworu’s Wikipedia article, which is honestly pretty bad to begin with. There have been plenty of other people editing this one and the rather homophobic “Relationship with Shinji” part of the article has been present for a while before he started editing it. (The fact this article literally uses someone being explicitly homophobic as a source is not surprising for Eva fandom, but holy shit, am I disgusted every time I reopen this page. I'm not even going to bother figuring out who added that one.) I do wonder if his reasons for not desecrating this page the same way he has on EvaGeeks is because he knows it wouldn’t stay up for particularly long. Reminder that he is also the main editor of the same pages on the Evangelion Fandom Wiki, which is essentially a copy and paste of EvaGeeks. Of note is this little tidbit I found:
This is what Felipe then deleted, as this is apparently not relevant, despite literally being about Kaworu’s relationship with Shinji. I mean, I’m sure this could have been put in somewhere else and perhaps phrased a bit better, but why the hell would you outright delete that kind of information? It’s supposed to be a wiki, not your own personal opinion chamber. BTW, this is the thread post he links as a rebuttal to that person adding it, and it’s probably for the best it’s presented here with context: https://forum.evageeks.org/post/886380/NGE-Ep24-Script-First-and-Second-Drafts/#886380
He clearly thinks he has a point here, but I’m not sure what exactly he’s going for. Basically everything he’s saying is conjecture, and while I can kinda see where he’s coming from it sure does completely fail to address the intent as explained in this interview. “Read the whole interview” is very dismissive, especially when the interview in full doesn’t exactly contradict the initial point. It does say quite a bit, how he will disregard official information when his wiki articles themselves are full of nothing but rambling.
Here’s another relevant and quite funny Discord screenshot:
Felipe is making a pretty hypocritical statement here. I’m sure he does have a point - there’s probably been quite a bit of vandalism happening to these pages which isn’t exactly surprising (again, Eva fans are not often rational people, please be honest with ourselves). That being said, I think there’s a particular irony to the man who has written many very, very long paragraphs on the wiki pages he has control over trying to stop people from thinking there might be anything but “ambiguity” between a pair he doesn’t like.
In the case anyone reading has forgotten: the purpose of a wiki should be to provide unbiased information on the material it discusses. Obviously the repeating of “innocuous” statements about how “ambiguous” it all is, in the vain of EG’s now made fun of ‘we don’t know what he really meant by that’ and ‘why Kaworu is so intent for Shinji alone to have happiness remains a mystery’ are pretty obviously intended to downplay the very, very obvious “subtext” and leagues of official information provided.
It kinda goes without saying that WE CAN INFER THESE THINGS FROM THE ACTUAL INFORMATION ON THE WIKI, you don’t need to add a disclaimer to everything going “well we just don’t know what it means!” (even in instances when we do know what it means, but that’s almost besides the point). You don’t need to add in these statements, unless you’re trying to sway people into ignoring what's presented by the show. If you want people to draw their own conclusions, you are in fact capable of presenting information without commentary - in fact, that's kind of the whole point of a wiki. Yes, Eva is ambiguous at times, but talking down to people like they need this reminded to them constantly is an absolute waste of time and energy. It’s almost as if the editor has been trying to cultivate a narrative and has been getting away with it because you can’t really prove these statements are biased unless you do the research. (I mean, you can from context, but it certainly hasn’t done much to get them removed, has it?)
You can view the editing history of any given EvaGeeks article on their own pages if you want to see just how many times these things have been added in by Felipe. And obviously, no, it isn’t just his fault - there are other users, several, in fact, credited with the editing of these pages, many of the edits serving the same point as Felipe’s paragraphs on “ambiguity”. He’s just the most concrete example of a biased editor. Also, yes, I do recognise this has all happened within the few days post the release of Eva on Netflix and that it was likely prompted by that. But we know at least one of the mods is aware of it given how Felipe talks about it in the EvaGeeks Discord server. It’s also quite funny I’ve seen people linking these pages like they're some kind of "gotcha" in response to tweets discussing the new translation, as if they haven’t been invented out of thin air in the past few days.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Now, frankly I’m sick of staring at EvaGeeks, and if you want any more information on these articles and others with instances of the same thing happening, you can have a look at it yourself.
Originally, this document contained far more screenshots from Felipe. My desire for this to not turn into a hit piece has lead me to remove a great deal of these messages. I do suggest, if you want to, you join the server and make your own conclusions. Even beyond what the member told me about I found myself agreeing with him fairly frequently when he was being reasonable - this doesn't change my concerns regarding the presentation of information on the wiki, though. The anonymous member was mostly concerned about this user having basically all the control over Kaworu's wiki articles, seeing as he has far too high of a stake in everything. Not all of these messages are inflammatory or even necessarily bad or wrong, but I find that to anyone privy to the “revelations” about the EvaGeeks Wiki here, they paint an interesting story, to say the least.
It’s starting to sound like he perhaps has just had some bad experiences. The following few messages are part of the same conversation.
I find it interesting how he flipflops from not understanding anything about the whole Eva Parallelism Theory Thing to suddenly being all for it when it concerns things not about the gay stuff.
Comments on how ‘manipulative’ Kaworu is
Because Kaworu is very pro instrumentality, and this definitely isn’t just a theory, I mean, it’s even talked about on the wiki, guys! (And I’m not even touching on the yes-men in this server.) Oh.
Oh no.
For the record, this page is clearly still under construction, and to point out any one thing about how bad it is would be essentially just poking a stick at a beehive. At least this one is so absolutely poorly phrased it’s doubtful anyone could mistake it for any kind of proper information. I also find it incredibly funny whenever pages on the wiki use the forum as a source. Relevant: Qmisato’s post on his defending of Shinji sexually assaulting Asuka: https://qmisato.tumblr.com/post/183082754484/yesterday-i-was-invited-to-evageeks-official
In response much later. I really can’t see it as being framed as “fun teenage romance”, also why is the word romance suddenly being used to talk about Asuka and Shinji after the whole debacle with Kaworu? He’s said before he doesn’t see Asuka and Shinji’s relationship as romantic, either (and GOOD! It’s not!)
(Also - it’s not sexual assault when Shinji tries to kiss Asuka in her sleep, but it IS when Kaworu does the exact same thing to Shinji? Make up your mind, dude.) Turning this sort of thing into Shipping Discourse is frankly not the right way to go about it, but it is perhaps notable that despite what Felipe says, he is in fact an Asushin shipper. (I don’t feel the need to post all these images in the document as its cluttered enough as it is.) At this point it’s rather adhom and I feel irrelevant but I do think it’s relevant that through all of Eva fandom, those who have the most issue “understanding” (more like accepting, I suppose) LGB subtext, are those who also are really attached to a fairly morally grey het pairing themselves. Again, seriously, there’s nothing inherently wrong with any of this and assuming the worst of someone because of the pairings they like isn’t my intent here, it’s more that I find this pattern has always been prevalent and it’s bothering me I’m seeing it STILL in 2019. ESPECIALLY from a wiki editor who inserts so much of that into his work on the site.
You’re probably sick of reading all of this (and I’m getting sick of writing it), so I’ll wrap up the part on Felipe quickly: Yes, I just dedicated several pages to screenshots of mostly innocuous (when considered out of context) stuff one guy had to say. I feel more obsessive than I’d like to admit, and frankly I have no business with this person. We’ve spoken twice on EvaGeeks threads if you can even call it speaking. This task was given to me by a member of the community who was concerned about his behaviour but didn’t want to publicise it themself and I feel a little out of my depth here. I at least hope we can come to the conclusion I wanted to here, that I fear may have been lost in this whole great mess of language - no one person should have THIS much sway over the state of a wiki that’s supposed to be impartial, especially when they have not been quiet with their biases in the first place, and it is the failure of everyone involved in the maintaining of the wiki itself that this sort of behaviour has been allowed in the first place.
The guy can have whatever opinions and theories he wants, obviously. I don't give a shit; he's not even that bad compared to the grand majority of Eva fans to begin with. Don't think this document exists to "cancel" him or thoughtpolice, I truly, genuinely, do not care what is said inside this server anymore. It doesn't concern me. I mean, it's a fucking cartoon, for god's sake. This only becomes an issue when opinions are expressed on a wiki, for reasons I have reiterated many times now. EvaGeeks lacks the objectivity required to function as a wiki and I'm trying to make that clear.
[ON THE TOPIC OF THE EVAGEEKS WIKI AND COMMUNITY IN GENERAL] As for who can edit the wiki and what they’re allowed to say: As you can see from the nature of people’s posts in this thread, you’re given access to do very specific things, and although I haven’t bothered going through the process myself (as I find it would be quite redundant, trying to fix such an inherently broken system), I’m guessing it’s very easy to get your edits reversed if you post anything they don’t like. Take that as conjecture of my own.
I have it in decent faith that the approval process involves whoever of the mod team is there at the time coming to an agreement based on people’s applications. Obviously this is a decent idea for a system, and I’m sure there are legitimate reasons as to why EG has to be locked down as much as it is; judging from the state of other fanon wikis I’ve seen there’s likely to be a decent amount of vandalism, especially in a fandom as passionate as Eva’s is. However, I think it’s fair to say that the complete restriction of updating these pages to those approved by a mod team who, while I’m sure are very reasonable people overall, certain individuals of which have displayed concerning behaviour and biases of their own in the server during my brief look around. I won’t be naming anyone in particular from the mod team as I don’t feel like I need to add any more targets of shame to this already horrifically negative document, but I have gotten the general impression (in case it needed confirmation, following the remaining of these specific changes on the wiki) that some mods, not all, aren’t the most nonpartisan individuals themselves. I do happen to be decent acquaintances with at least one of them so, again, please don’t consider this a personal attack.
My concern here plainly is that I don’t think a group of mods who have routinely failed to prevent events like the ones mentioned earlier, nor seem to have much of an issue with the myriad of examples of people being openly homophobic and misogynistic on their own forum are really in the position to be choosing who of the Privelleged Few get to control the Eva meta-narrative here. As I was writing this, I was alerted to the state of the primary Japanese Evangelion wiki as a source of cross referencing for what these things can look like if done right. If you take a moment to browse it, even if you don’t speak any Japanese and have to use an automatic translator it should be very obvious how something like this differs greatly from EvaGeeks. Kaworu’s page, for a relevant example, doesn’t have present any of the nonsense statements about ambiguity or overwritten descriptions of everything. The wiki respects the reader’s intelligence enough to know that it is, in fact, a wiki, and thus tries its best to be factual. His page is fairly decent in size and states things we know are fact rather than theory. There’s no attempt made to influence or confuse.
Oh, and just in case you think the mods aren’t actually active or present enough to know what Felipe is doing, his particularly awful page on Kaworu in episode 24 got a shoutout from the official Twitter account two days ago.
If you are going to join the Discord server to verify things yourself* or do further digging, again, please be cautious of other users inside and do your best not to start anything. I am an occasional contributor to the forums and I’d prefer not to get my account flagged or to experience harassment myself, if any EvaGeeks members are still reading this document and disagree with my conclusions. I may not have posted much since I joined earlier this year, but despite everything I find the forums to be valuable for connecting with other fans and have enjoyed the positive feedback to my SIRP translation! Those who have spoken to me there have been very kind (including Felipe himself), and I must reiterate that this is not targeted at the whole site, or even at just Felipe. I simply believe there is more than enough evidence to suggest there have been consistent, systematic failures to recognise and correct the utter lack of objectivity present. I seriously don’t have any personal issues or beef with this guy, either. I wouldn’t have done this if it wasn’t someone else who came to me about it.

hi, sorry if this comes off as rude in text, i was just wondering what the problem with ariana was? i don’t quite see how her actions were ‘disrespectful’ - are you able to explain it to me?
hi! not at all, thank you for asking.
before i get into this, i do want to clarify: i am japanese, but my opinion is definitely not that of every japanese person. some might agree, and some might not. it’s best if you ask some other people as well. (also, i am not a cultural studies expert, and definitely not a perfectly objective human. no one is.)
so, what is the problem with ariana lately?
the keyword here is cultural appropriation. it’s the adoption of certain elements from a minority culture by members of a majority culture (ethnic, in this case), and their use outside of their original context - which is kind of inevitable.
i know that ariana has used the japanese alphabet several times before (back when it was very, very trendy, but still not unproblematic), and i also know that she has been studying the language for quite some time - which is amazing! - but i feel like she has gone a bit too far with her latest song 7 rings, and everything that followed.
what i majorly dislike about it is that she is using A. the japanese language, and B. the pink retro japanese aesthetic, while the japanese culture itself is never, ever mentioned throughout the entire song or music video. she has just taken the aspects and completely alienated them from their origin. she is clearly just using the language not because it has a connection to the song, but because they look ‘weird’ and ‘cute’, which is (borderline) stereotyping/racist.
also, the translations are incorrect. a quick google search is enough to notice that ‘explicit content’ is actually ‘露骨な内容’ and not ‘明示的なコンテンツ’, as she puts it on this post. on another instagram post she recently deleted, she put incorrect japanese translations of her ‘i see it / i like it / i want it / i got it’ that was probably not double-checked, or not checked by a japanese native speaker in the first place.
and of course, the tattoo. when fans pointed out that 七輪 is a bbq grill and not the translation of seven rings 七つの指輪, she defended it by saying that it hurt - which is the most understandable - and that it ‘still looks tight’. this is what was the most ignorant, i think, because this really shows that the entirety of the form of the tattoo was made just for the superficial reason of the Aesthetic.her ‘correction’ didn’t make it better. it now reads either 七輪指♡ (bbq grill fingers ♡) or 輪♡七指 (ring ♡ seven fingers), because in japanese, you read either vertically right-left, or horizontally top-bottom. either way, it’s not really helping the situation.
this is not only another case of a white person taking advantage of something that i and many others were made fun of throughout our lives, but also - and that might be the most tragic thing of all of this - is that ariana is such a huge influence on people across the globe. her cultural appropriation might, in the worst case scenario, normalise it - especially in the eyes of younger generations who aren’t aware of this, which might bring about consequences that could be fatal for ethnic minorities, who are already so affected by racism and stereotyping.
! there is also a whole another debate about brownface + the appropriation of black culture & language in 7 rings, but as someone who is neither black nor brown, i don’t consider myself in any place to go further into it; i do want to say, however, that the problem exists and should be made aware of. (if you have a good article/post from someone from these cultures, pls let me know and i’ll add the link here.)
ariana has my utmost respect for going through hell last year and growing so much as a person. everything i said is not meant to be an attack on her; this post fulfils its purpose by clarifying what exactly caused this debate. i just hope that she’ll learn & grow from this as well.

Tagged by @voxofthevoid, and I’ve got to say that I agree with them, this is a fun tag game!
Take an excerpt of your writing, put it into Google Translate, translate it into a random language, and then back into English, and see what you end up with!
Original:
Actually, no. No, that was a complete lie, he knew exactly how bad Victor could get when good food, alcohol and company conspired together to make a fun night. The few times Yuuri’s mom had chosen to look the other way, the nightcaps back home had gone badly sideways – enough so that Yuuri had developed the instinct to retreat the moment he’d seen anything covering Victor’s torso come off.
Translated to Japanese and back:
Actually, it is different. I knew exactly how bad the Victor became when good food, alcohol, company collaborated together to have a fun night together. Yujiro's mother went to see it again several times, as the nightcap that came home bore himself badly, Yujiro demonstrates instinct enough to retreat the moment when she covers Victor's torso did.
.....what. What.
This is ridiculous, I can’t stop giggling at my screen, man. How’d Yuuri become Yujiro?! I assume it was the apostrophe, but still. Also, Yujiro’s mom, pls don’t perv on the Victor’s torso. Who is this nightcap? Is he a guest? At least Yujiro has good instincts.
I tried a few others just for the heck of it? If any of you feeling like giggling a bit more, try translating to Italian or Armenian. Or anything else, really. *continues to giggle helplessly*
I... assume I’ve been tagged with both, D? Here’s the second tag game: list five of your favorite fics that you’ve written and why you like them.
(I’m going to try and stick to the more unexpected favorites, since I have other fics that are better known than these)
It Takes Two || You Can’t Abandon Me, KHR: Mildly creepy, got written in a single sitting at stupid o’clock because my brain couldn’t let go of the idea, and yet something that’s very close to my heart because of how unnerving the premise gets the more you think about it. The Vongola Intuition will always be something verging on supernatural for me, I suppose. It makes things interesting.
Sailing Strange Seas, PotC x One Piece: This started as a thought exercise, and I couldn’t let go of it for years. I’m actually really proud of the fact that I managed to finish writing it, since it felt like one of those ideas that would get lost on a hard disk - I’m so glad that it didn’t. Also, it gave me the chance to throw relatively Real World PotC pirates and Luffy’s unpredictable badassery together - which can only be a good thing. How I wish there were more One Piece and PotC crossovers.
FMA Wrath!Roy AU: The only one of these picks that isn’t posted on AO3. Yet. I suppose what I like the most about this is just how much character analysis and building I managed to pack into a few thousand words. It was written as a gift for a friend, and honestly, I loved the experience of writing it.
Path of Gold, KHR x Free!, added cameos from Daiya no A, Kuroko no Basuke and ES21: Also known as That Fic In Which Sky Attraction Goes Very Wrong. Or very right, depending on your viewpoint. *wry grin* I’m uncomfortably fond of strange crossovers, but this is the first multifandom crossover I’ve attempted. What I liked best about it has to be how it taught me to balance a lot of different character threads without turning them into an information dump.
Into the Mist || This is Not the End, YOI: This one probably made a few people cry. The atmosphere alone, and the catharsis in it, easily make this one of the things that I am the proudest to have written. This piece felt like a journey from start to end, and I’m still amazed that I managed to complete it.
Tagging @nightmare-aoife, @unwrathful, @ladyhallen, @boycottromance, @blackkatmagic, and anyone else who might be interested! Feel free to ignore this if you’re not, too. ^^;;;

THE BEST RECORDS OF THE 2010S PT 2 (THE TOP 10!!!!!!)
if you thought the last post was long, you just wait. ive also decided to actually number this list, but pls keep in mind my opinions change often and drastically so dont think anything is set here.
please read my other post too if you want to know about the records i like a little less than the ones here as well as some honorable mentions
#10: Some Rap Songs - Earl Sweatshirt (2018)
This record is a perfect fusion of rap and lofi hip hop. Nobody makes a beat like Earl, and this record is a perfect example. Earl uses his samples to create layered soundscapes of distorted vocals and sounds, paired with his emotionally blunt flows. It’s short, but it really doesn’t feel that short, and frankly I could re-listen to it a handful of times in a row and probably not care that much. Not to sound like Todd Howard, but it just works dude.
#9: ゼロコンマ、色とりどりの世界 - Mass of the Fermenting Dregs (2010)
According to Google, this record’s title translates to Zero Comma, Multicolored World. Which is interesting. I wish I knew Japanese just to understand this kind of stuff to be honest. But that’s besides the point.
Zero Comma, Multicolored World is a fantastic collection of tracks from my personal favorite J-Rock band, Mass of the Fermenting Dregs. Like for context, I got into this band around the same time as I got into Nirvana. I spent the entire summer of 2016 crying to In Utero, playing Overwatch while listening to MF DOOM, and jamming to Mass of the Fermenting Dregs. I managed to find a copy of their fantastic self-titled EP when I was in Tokyo a few years back. Anyways I’ve gotten off track.
This record is a breathe of fresh air for those tired of American “alt-rock”, incorporating elements of shoegaze, post-hardcore, pop, and more to create a totally unique and explosive record. Every member of this band is playing out of their minds on some of these tracks, and lead singer/bassist Natsuko Miyamoto’s vocals are powerful and blend so well with everything else this record offers. At this point in most paragraphs I’d gush about some specific tracks but I don’t have a Japanese keyboard to write the track titles and I’m lazy, so just trust me and go listen to this record, their self-titled EP, the reunion record No New World from 2018, and their EP World is Yours if anything I’ve said interests you.
#8: Fetch - Melt-Banana (2013)
This record melts my fucking brain dude. Melt-Banana is some of the most eccentric and weird music I’ve ever heard, blending noise, punk, and just plain absurdity to create music that I want to simultaneously describe as cursed and blessed. From the wailing walls of pure volume coming from the guitars to the sporatic and often manic vocals, this record sounds like no other I’ve ever heard. My personal favorite tracks are Hive, Candy Gun, Zero, and Schemes of the Tails. Seriously, if this sounds interesting to you, set aside 32 minutes to just appreciate this record. It’ll be worth your time.
#7: Joy as an Act of Resistance - IDLES (2018)
On Joy as an Act of Resistance, British band IDLES offers up some of the best punk of the decade in a package that is full of hope, anger, and love. From singer Joe Talbot’s cries for unity in tracks like Danny Nedelko and Great, to self love anthems like Television and I’m Scum, Joy offers an alternative to their much angrier and sad 2017 debut record Brutalism, which I now realize I forgot to include on my fucking honorable mentions god damn it. Anyways, this record isn’t all sweet. IDLES tackles some heavier topics on this record as well, with songs like Samaritans dismantling toxic masculinity, Rottweiler tearing into sensationalist news and media, and the introspective June seeing Joe speak bluntly about his experience being the father of a stillborn. It’s also some of the unique punk out there at the moment, with jangly guitar “riffs”, Joe’s accent heavy shouts, and noisey drums. IDLES is definitely a band to pay attention to going into the 20s.
#6: Adults!!!... Smart!!! Shithammered!!! And Excited By Nothing!!!!! - Bomb the Music Industry (2010)
Adults!!! is short, coming in at 21 minutes over the course of 7 tracks. And yet, this EP contains some of the catchiest and refined ska punk of the decade. The record acts almost as a condensed summation of BTMI’s entire career, featuring some of the repeated themes that has defined Jeff’s whole discography. Not only that, but some of BTMI’s best tracks are on this EP, from Jeff’s strained vocals on You Still Believe in Me?, to the peppy and depressing Planning My Death, to the defiant Slumlord and the explosive penultimate track, The First Time I Met Sanawon. I could wish it was longer, but I’ll be honest, with the quality of tracks here, I don’t care. It’s a near flawless EP that represents everything I love about one of my favorite bands ever.
#5: The Money Store - Death Grips (2012)
Like Fetch, The Money Store is similarly mind melting in completely different ways. This record is brutal. MC Ride’s “vocals” are like no other, with some describing them as the shouts of a drugged up homeless man. Paired with ear bursting, stereo busting beats, and esoteric dark flows, the picture this record paints is one of filth and primal violence. And I love every minute of it. And despite the harsh nature of this record, some of these beats fucking slap. This record features some of the weirdest uses of sampling, like seriously who the fuck finds Arabic Nokia ringtones and thinks “yeah let’s sample these in like half the tracks on this record” and make it sound this good. And at times I have no clue how they even managed to make some of the sounds they did. All of this is backed with Zack Hill’s extremely technical and wild drumming. I contemplated putting other Death Grips records in this spot, but The Money Store is the complete DG package. It also has Hacker on it. im in your area
#4: Teens of Denial - Car Seat Headrest (2016)
I’m a fucking moron and I’ll tell you why. When I initially heard the first few tracks from this record when I was 17, I wasn’t that blown away. Like, I added Fill in the Blank, Vincent, and Destroyed by Hippie Powers to my big ass shuffle playlist and didn’t bother digging much deeper. Here I am now, 20 years old, kicking myself in the ASS for overlooking Car Seat Headrest for this long. I only gave this album a proper listen to back in January! And I LOVE it! Teens of Denial is a fantastic record, full of complex, multilayered tracks that are not only incredibly catchy, but full of heart and passion. Lead singer and songwriter Will Toledo has voice that sounds equally uneasy and leaking with confidence, and that confidence spills over into every aspect of this record. While not as emotionally intense as their only other studio LP as of February 2020, Teens of Denial is just track after track of some of the greatest indie rock made this decade. Including the songs I mentioned before, you’ve also got Drunk Drivers/Killer Whales, 1937 State Park, and the powerful Cosmic Hero. And if you like reading, the narrative of this record is interesting to follow. And while I was working on this list they literally just announced a new record so like I’m fucking hyped dude.
#3: To Pimp a Butterfly - Kendrick Lamar (2015)
Ok. Look. I know everybody is putting this at their #1 spot. And they probably have even more to say about this record than I do. There’s probably nothing I can say that hasn’t been said a million times by literally everyone. But that’s just a testament to the quality of this record. This is one of the greatest hip hop records ever made, if not the best depending on who you ask. Some of my favorite rap songs are on this record, Wesley’s Theory, King Kunta, Alright, The Blacker The Berry, and more. TPAB offers detailed glimpses into one of the biggest rappers in the world’s psyche and pain, mixed with profound social and political messages. The beats on this record are beautifully mixed with jazz and gospel influences, starting a trend many artists have since continued. And Kendrick’s signature flow from gkmc are at their absolute finest on TPAB. There is something to enjoy out of this record no matter your background, which would explain this record’s near universal appeal. To Pimp a Butterfly is just full of life, energy, and passion. It’s weird to think this record is only 5 years old, because it feels just as powerful as it did when it came out.
#2: Twin Fantasy - Car Seat Headrest (2018)
Twin Fantasy is a rare kind of record. The emotions expressed on this record are intense and laid flat out for you to hear, dissect, and empathize with. The entire record being structured around the idea of reflection works both as a fun way to organize a diverse and varied track listing, while also playing into a handful of the record’s motifs and themes. Speaking of which, each song on this album has a unique identity, both in terms of sound and feeling, and how it plays into the larger narrative of this record. Some songs have multiple tonal shifts, such as the epic Beach Life-In-Death, split into three distinct parts making it a song that, despite its 13 minute run-time, is a song I never grow tired of listening to. What each track shares, however, is the same fantastic songwriting, with layered instrumentals and some of Will’s greatest vocal performances. It also helps that all the tracks are just flat out catchy, like the fantastic Bodies, the chill Sober to Death, and the energetic Nervous Young Inhumans. While the 2011 original is great, the 2018 rerecording adds so much new complexity and clarity to this record. In addition to the original themes, the 2018 version adds new perspectives and meta commentary to the 2011 original, with Will reflecting on the feelings he was experiences at the time he wrote the original record, 7 years afterwards, adding an additional layer to this record’s larger narrative. The final 22 minutes of this record provides a strong emotional climax to the record, sending off a fantastic and absolutely classic record. There’s a good chance that, in 10 more years or so, I may look back at this record and put it above my #1 record. Hell, while I write this I really question whether or not I should do it. What I’m trying to say is, take that #2 with a grain of salt, because I love this record just as much as my #1 at this point. No record has managed to leave such a profound and strong impression on me this quickly after my first listen a few months ago, besides Twin Fantasy. Because Twin Fantasy is a rare kind of record. It’s a perfect record. And now it’s time for my favorite record of the decade. It’s probably obvious what it is considering some of the things I’ve said on this list, so without any more delay...
#1: WORRY. - Jeff Rosenstock (2016)
WORRY. is my personal favorite record of the decade and of all time. It is an absolutely triumphant record. Every song here is a classic. WORRY. radiates pure, unfiltered energy that I haven’t been able to shake for the nearly 4 years this record has been out. Songs like Festival Song and Wave Goodnight to Me still get me pumped, and the so called “WORRY. medley” that spans the back half of this record rivals the medley of Abbey Road. And the opening track, We Begged 2 Explode, fuck man it’s a hell of an opener. Hell, I know every line spoken on this record. This record is a product of a man who has spent over 20 years perfecting his music, never compromising to trends or demands. Jeff has always been open about what he loves and what he believes in, and it’s no more apparent than on this record. Trying to describe every way in which this record works for me leaves me grasping for the right words to describe the feeling. It’s a record that makes you wanna chant along to it, move your body to it, and tell everyone you love about it. So just listen to it. I don’t care if you don’t like punk, or ska, or ska punk, or just garage/indie rock in general, or if my enthusiasm hasn’t sold you. This is one of the best records out there and you can either realize it now, or regret it later.
I know the record literally says that the perfect sound doesn’t exist. But it does. And it sounds like this.
And that’s it for this list. I’m excited to see what the new decade brings. If my mind ever changes about these records, or I get around to listening to a record that deserves to be on this list, maybe I’ll do an updated version, but like right now? This is how I feel.

Court is now in Session! - Danganronpa Re: Birth Voices Class Trial announcement!
Hey everyone, so today we’re finally proud to announce, after over a month and a half of scriptwriting, that we at danganrebirth-voices will be holding our own, fully-fledged, Class Trial!
youtube
Wow! I listened to the trailer and it sounded amazing! Tell me more about this!
So, as said just above, this Class Trial script has been written by our Rokudou VA and we’re very excited to share it with you all! So, this is a full class trial full of debates, rebuttal showdowns, accusations and of course, executions! It will be presented as a fully voiced audio drama and we plan to release it on both YouTube and iTunes.
This sounds so cool! How long will it be? Where are you currently at with the script?
Currently, we are in the final editing stage of the script and it clocks in exactly 11 800 words or 35 Google Docs pages. We estimate that the recording will be at least an hour to an hour and 20 minutes long.
Wait, what’s Dangan Re: Birth, anyway? What is it?
Dangan Re: Birth was originally an April Fools joke created by @MiwasibaS and his friends, centred around a killing game at Kaihou Academy. The protagonist is Ayumu Fujimori, the Super High School Level Unlucky Student. The profiles of the students and more info can be found both on the official DRRB blog in Japanese, or in English on the Danganronpa Wiki.
Is this canon?
TL;DR: No.
Long version: Nope.
Wait, wasn’t Saiji the first victim? Wasn’t there an infirmary? Why aren’t you just creating a class trial based off of the creator’s story?
This scriptwriting for this class trial started on the 2nd of April, only a day after DRRB was even revealed. By the time that @MiwasibaS started posting the story, we were already 13 pages into the script and had the murder planned out almost completely and frankly, we were too petty to give up all of our hard work. We intend to follow MiwasibaS’s original plan loosely, whilst also changing up plot elements to differentiate the stories.
Will we actually be playing as Ayumu? How are we supposed to shout “No, that’s wrong!” into Youtube??? help pls??????
So, as this is an audio drama, it is a fully non-interactive experience. Unfortunately, we have neither the time, nor the money, nor the expertise to make such a thing happen.
What’s a Monodora? Where’s Monokuma?
Monodora is a floating AI which is described as essentially being a floating Monokuma head with cat ears and a tail which can summon things from “dimension pockets” at will. For all intents and purposes, he’s just Monokuma under a different name.
Akira’s VA sounds different from his intro. What gives?
Unfortunately, our old VA for Akira had to leave the project due to personal issues, which meant that he was unable to voice for our scripts. Akira is now being voiced by the amazing Bostoboy (Here’s his Tumblr and CCC, go follow him!)!
I don’t like ___’s VA! How do I get them fired?
Just remember that we’re fans, just like you, and this is a fan project. Or a fan project… of another fan, or something. Basically, we’re in it for fun, and this is supposed to be a fun thing which we share with the community. We’ve had a blast making this for everyone to listen to.
Wait, does this mean that I won’t ever be able to listen to the first victim’s beautiful voice?
;)
Who dies first, anyway? I bet it’s Marin. She’s too cute to live.
:)
Why did you just do the Class Trial? Why not Daily and/or Deadly Life?
Well, the Class Trial is the best bit of a chapter, and it wouldn’t be too hard to explain what had previously transpired. Besides, imagine Ayumu just shouting evidence at you for an hour without any visuals or anything. That’s just boring.
Do you have permission from @MiwasibaS to make this?
Indeed! @MiwasibaS is aware of this project and has given his express permission for this project to go ahead.
THIS CHARACTER ISN’T WRITTEN EXACTLY LIKE @MIWASIBAS DESCRIBED THEM AS REEEEEEEEE
Woah, woah, calm down. We’ve tried to match the personalities of the cast to how they were described as much as we could, but there’s only so far we can go as native English speakers before we have to let our headcanons and imaginations take over. Since we’re not the original creators of Dangan Re: Birth, we do not have access to any of the backstories and such that MiwasibaS may have laid out but not released publicly, and this makes it much harder to write them. Of the notable differences between MiwasibaS’ descriptions and this script is Nico not being as lazy, Mitsunari being treated a bit more normally, Seishi not being as suspicious and not including Ayumu’s gender reveal within this script. Don’t worry, though, we love these characters as much as you do and aim to give them all justice!
Are you going by the NISA translation when it comes to talents or the raw, translated versions? Are characters being called by their first or last name?
As this is originally a Japanese project, we’ve decided to go with the translations of “Super High School Level” and having characters call each other by their last names (except for Seishi who calls everyone Mr/Ms <First Name>).
Are you going to make more of these?
This depends largely on the reaction of the community, but the more attention we get, the better!
Will you take my murder suggestion? I have this great idea where Mitsunari kills Ayumu, but it was actually his hidden third puppet, Inu, the dog and….
Alright, I’ve read this giant wall of text. When can I listen?!
We don’t have a solid release date set, but we’re looking at around a late June-July release. We only have one person editing, characters like Ayumu have 230+ lines to record, and some VAs are more active and available to record than others so it will take a while to get to you all, but I promise you that it’ll be worth the wait!
How can I help support this project?
You can help support us by sharing this post and spreading the word online, with your friends, etc.! The more the better! We want to reach the far confines of the fandom with this project. Additionally, if you are a good audio editor, we'd love to hear from you! Just send something in our asks or submissions box and we'll make contact with you :) You can find us on Discord here, please feel welcome to join us!: https://discord.gg/wWBT537 - Mod Saiji
