The result of that flash poll I did the other day, Riv wound up winning so here he is!
Random OC lore below for anyone interested.
Riv is the oldest of the aur, a species unintentionally formed from the energetic aftershocks of the creation of his planet. Because there was only so much of that energy to go around, there are a limited number of "souls" available for their species, and thus the aur have a static population. Although functionally immortal, they do lose neuroelasticity over time, which eventually makes living pretty unpleasant, so they inevitably opt to pass away and allow a new member of the species to be born.
Several thousand years ago, Riv contracted a particularly dangerous magical condition that left him discolored—he used to be a very pale apricot color and his hair was opalescent white—and with chronic pain, but also keeps him from losing neuroelasticity, allowing him to live basically forever without experiencing the ennui that is the literal death of the rest of his species.
Travelers of other species who came across the aur in ancient times wound up essentially engaging in a millennia-long game of telephone that led to a gross misunderstanding of what they actually looked like, which is where the concept of unicorns comes from. When the aur finally went public as a species to get people to stop killing each other, everyone was very surprised to find that they look nothing like horses or deer. (Although they do have hooves, which is what led to the mistranslation that brought about that misconception in the first place.)

Inktober 26: Dark
So this is technically a HUGE spoiler for what goes on with Myn late in the plot of The Indori Cycle, but without context it doesn't really mean too much I guess? Normally she wears a ton of jewelry and such but I honestly just didn't feel like drawing all those freaking chains and gemstones today, so no jewelry.
I really like how the blooming of ink came out on her skin, I'm proud of her hair (even if there are a couple dirty curves there), and I got a little self-indulgent on the highlights but shiny things have always been my weakness.
Myn is (obviously) the same species as Riv, who’s shown up here and in the Patreon Sketchbook a couple times; she's actually his niece! She's super, super young compared to him, but serves as the initial catalyst to kicking off the main plot. I love her a lot.
Although I have it on good authority that she’s @cuddledragon‘s tall hooved mouthless girlfriend.

Tyalaskr is my oldest (surviving) OC, having been originally invented in his roughest, simplest form when I was 11 years old; this makes him 27 this year, which is a hell of a thing.
He's Riv's bestie. Possibly his boyfriend. Definitely his husband, but in the "for tax purposes" kind of way. They don't live in a region that has taxes, so nobody knows exactly what they mean by this. They were born on the same day!
Random OC lore below.
Tyalaskr is the only male in his entire species, and is the result of a vicious breeding project undertaken by his mother over 10,000 years ago. His father was an aur, like Riv, which means that Tyal shouldn't have been able to be conceived at all because there shouldn't have been a soul available for him to form around—but somehow there was, and now he's here.
Tyal has 60+ "sisters," although they're actually almost entirely grandnieces and great-grandnieces; his mother's species operates similarly to ants or bees, with one queen capable of breeding and a host of sterile workers/warriors/etc., all of which refer to each other in sibling terms regardless of what generation they come from. This species is one of three that were intentionally crafted by one of the first generation born on the planet, and were designed specifically for use in war. The culture that made them is long gone, but they've never really been able to shake off their original purpose.
He's immortal on his father's side and almost indestructible on his mother's side, so Tyal is just gonna be here forever and he's made peace with that for the most part. He has limited shapeshifting abilities (from his mother's side) that allow him to move in and out of mortal society periodically, although he spends a lot of time living with the aur.
In spite of being considered a success as far as his mother's breeding projects go, Tyal has a lot of what could be considered birth defects:
Instead of having feet like his sisters or cloven hooves like the aur, he has mostly-digitigrade three-toed almost-hooves with a dewclaw in the back, which aren't very functional on the majority of terrain.
The opening of his mouth is too small for his teeth (because aur don't have mouths but do have teeth) so he has some difficulty opening up very wide without hurting himself.
There are multiple places where he produces feathers instead of hair due to a follicle mismatch, most notably along one side of his head, the underside of his ears, and several points on his tail (which is not visible in this picture).
The inability to shapeshift properly could also be considered a birth defect, particularly since he has access to pretty much all the abilities of an aur save for sublimation.
His longer-than-normal limbs (particularly the structure of his legs and feet) make him slightly heavier than he should be, which gave him some trouble learning to fly; thankfully, aur can levitate when they reach adulthood, so Tyal is able to leverage that together with his wings and hasn't had much trouble since childhood. He still doesn't like wearing anything heavy, avoiding metal accessories, weaponry and armor entirely, opting for the lightest and most minimal clothing possible.
I'm gonna cut myself off here because, again, this is my oldest OC so I could talk about him for years. I will not bore you further.

Very old and barely cleaned up art of the majority of the main cast of my unfinished fantasy novel, because I realized that these are all trapped over on my old compromised blog and I'd like to have them over here.
Tsh'ander Clan West | Verrim kil Hadir vi Amalathae | Myn
Relia Eidanri | Asforahl | Marashac
Riv | Tyalaskr | The Meli
Deidric Carnelian-19 | Cieni *high whistle/click sound* | Kortha VI
This is roughly the order of introduction, if I'm remembering correctly, although it gets a little muddied after Tyalaskr.
Random nonsense about these freaks under the cut.
Verrim was born missing one arm and about 30% of either lung in a deal his mother made with their patron god to make sure he inherited a specific magic that only presents in Amalathae women, without which he would have been taken from her at birth and raised up elsewhere.
Myn and Riv are members of a species born from the energetic aftershocks of the creation of the planet. They have a static population—when one dies, another is born to take their place and carry the energy that creates their equivalent of a soul. This is referred to as a "changeover," not reincarnation.
Asforahl and Marashac are the last survivors of the first generation born after the First made the planet and a manufactured species to populate it.
Tyalaskr is the result of a complex breeding experiment involving the murder of one of Riv and Myn's people, the changeover of which led to the birth of Riv. Tyal and Riv are best friends and share a birthday.
The Meli was accidentally created in a magical splicing accident that resulted in a couple people and at least one large feline getting fused together into a single living thing. It has two hearts, several extra ribs, too many vertebrae, and telescoping legs.
Deidric comes from a culture where hair color defines a person's role in society. She is, unfortunately, a genetic aberration who was born to parents with white hair (commoners, ~90% of the population) while she has black hair (nonperson labor, ~9.9% of the population); her teacher is a white-haired man who was born to black-haired parents ~50 year prior. Their culture is in shambles.
What would constitute the closest thing Cieni has to a surname is a series of sounds that literally can't be produced by most spoken or any written language, so that's what you get.

Thinking about late teens/early twenties me accidentally structuring a culture in my unfinished fantasy novel to always have a queer transfem ruler.
They're based on fish so the women being in charge made more sense, but I also wanted one of those "there are a billion princes and princesses because a lot of them die" things going on (again, we're going with fish here) so it's necessary to be able to produce a lot of children. So the queen just is always a trans woman and she always has a very happy harem of a couple dozen queer wives and transmasc husbands.
Also remembering my first ex telling me that it was stupid and weird and "nobody's ever gonna read your book if you make everything weird, Nashi." She said that Myn was freaky enough and "the story doesn't need weird aliens things with no mouths and transsexual fish people." (I'm not sure why she thought this, because I think a good story could have both quite easily. Also Myn is a unicorn, thanks.)
Anyway so I'm thinking about making the lesser prince from the fish people culture that is part of the main cast a trans man because who gives a fuck.

One of my best friends wanted me to draw Deidric, so I drew Deidric. She’s 6′2″ and if cars existed in her universe she could almost bench press one. Almost. (She mostly works in mines though.)

She’s finished! (Paging @cuddledragon!)
Since this is my first custom (she started as a Draculaura), I spent a lot of it learning what worked for me and how to make some things happen that I hadn't seen before. Her tail is a piece of medical tubing with jewelry wire in it, her earrings are magnetic, her fingers were tipped in superglue to smooth out some...issues. It's all been a learning experience!
For anyone who doesn’t know, her name is Myn and she's a character from my unfinished novel. She’s a unicorn! The concept of the unicorn is a translation error! :D
EDIT: Added in Myn’s character illustration for...reference? idk. It’s there now.

I think she's coming along pretty well! Her tail is effectively done, save for a little extra trimming, and her fetlocks are next.

More updates! She's ready for paint, then I gotta wait for her hair to come in so I can do her head--and fetlocks! Then it's faceup time.
I'll probably do her clothes and jewelry while waiting for her hair to come in the mail since everything is delayed on account of plague.

@felishaww : Tyalaskr (OC) in “What You See"
Tyal is my oldest original character; the unfinished novel from which he originates, The Indori Cycle, has been recast and recut a good dozen times since its inception, and somehow he always survives the chopping block. He comes out a little different every time, but he’s had more or less the same design since 2013 so I think he’s set at this point.

@cuddledragon : Myn (OC) in “Inspired Surveillance”
This one took longer than I wanted it to, but I really wanted it to look a specific way so it was worth it! Always gotta push myself on @cuddledragon‘s tall hooved mouthless girlfriend.
Myn is from the same story as Tyalaskr, shown in the last pallete challenge response. She hates traveling on foot, not because exercise is a pain but because her fetlocks and tail are always filthy by the time she reaches her destination. It’s pretty common for her kind to bind them up for long trips (outside the domes where they live, where dirt is managed appropriately), but Myn isn’t exactly good at it. She does her best.
This was originally slightly more explicit but since I just got un-shadowbanned I didn’t want to risk it.

Inktober 22: Ghost
Numbers don't have to go in order, right?
The Dead Queen is the name given to a specter living in some subterranean ruins recently discovered by the Indori Cycle's very own King Under the Mountain (exception not really, his palace is under a large plain and a lake), and is actually the spiritual remains of a woman named Lariha. She wasn't exactly a queen, but she is SUPER dead so she accepts it.
Decently happy with how this one came out, even if it is simpler than most of the others. This one was more about figuring out how to make the ink do what I wanted than the composition or anything like that, and in that it's a good result.
