I find Sarcastic Chorus's video on why he's quitting Helluva Boss really interesting but I'm kind of baffled by the number of people straight up not understanding his reasoning for quitting. I think it's interesting how both his video and the online reaction to it is basically the consequences of modern fandoms treating art like its something to mindlessly consume and not worth analyzing and critiqing, or else you're consuming it "wrong".

Like his argument isn't that he hates the show or that he was forcing himself to criticize the show, in fact one of his main problems was that he couldn't be MORE honest in his reviews because of how fans would react to it. The problem was that when your job is to analyze a show, and it has way too many problems to ignore, and you're dealing with a hyper-sensitive fanbase that's hostile to criticism, you end up feeling exhausted or flat out disinterested in reviewing it.

I actually find it really concerning that fans are coping so hard with him quitting that they're framing it like its his problem because he was "looking for problems on purpose" when it was pretty obvious that it genuinely makes him kind of miserable trying to pick apart the show's issues. I remember when he was SO confident that Hazbin Hotel would be amazing and "prove the haters wrong" only for him to acknowledge that it was a complete mess. I'm honestly more confused by the fans who watch a reviewer and then get mad when he... reviews things. It's not even that they disagree with him, but the audacity to even point out very noticeable flaws in the product is enough to set them off and accuse him of being a clout chaser and a hater. Like do you want to see a review or did you just want to watch someone lie to you and blindly praise a series for 30 minutes, because i find it really odd that so many fans are insistent that he should've done the latter.

I also got pretty annoyed by this insistence that he wouldn't have turned on this show if he didnt criticize it and "turned his brain off" instead which is the same stupid excuse people gave for Hazbin's sloppy writing. and I just find that just... baffling? Hazbin Hotel and Helluva Boss, as extremely flawed as they are, are clearly shows made with the clear intention of being taken seriously. Ffs the crew calls Helluva Boss "queer Bojack Horseman". Helluva Boss tackles topics like abuse, trauma, classism, racism, toxic relationships and redemption and Hazbin Hotel tackles themes like sexual trauma and abuse, redemption and religious oppression. But the problem is that both shows do it so poorly that people genuinely think that it's meant to be slop content that you're just supposed to turn your brain off and listen to.

I'm not going to forget when these fans were treating Helluva Boss's season 1 like peak queer representation and writing and insistent that Angel Dust was this amazingly well written gay male character that people only hated because he was messy and imperfect. Honestly kind of funny that I was chastised for saying that Angel Dust is just a sex joke only for the show, the crew, the merch, and even the damn playbill reduce him to just that. Slapping on trauma (especially knowing that its more of a fetish than a genuine exploration on male sexual abuse) doesn't really negate the fact that Angel Dust is poorly written. Side note: his fans are way too unhinged and aggressive, its getting very weird.

So its funny to me that now that Helluva Boss season 2 completely nose dived and Hazbin Hotel is a sloppy mess that feels more geared for children than adults, that now people are being told they're not allowed to analyze these shows or even pay attention to their problems, and are treated like idiots for doing so.

I think the problem is that I kind of think fans also notice the lowered quality of writing in both shows. because why aren't people actually defending the writing and character progression? instead of "Sarcastic Chorus is wrong because his criticism is incorrect and misses these points" its "Sarcastic Chorus is wrong because he should have shut his brain off and treated these shows like its cocomelon for adults"

Wukong doesn't like thunderstorms. They scare the monkies and the unpredictably and sound make him uncomfortable. He's also not that big of a fan of water. Macaque doesn't mind storms, he doesn't like how loud they are but he's fine with them. Macaque uses his hearing to let Wukong know when thunder is coming so he can cover his ears.

Wukong hides most parts about him using glamors. He hides his eyes, his head scar, his height, and other things he sees as imperfections. Macaque would kill to see Wukong's features again cause he always loved those parts about him and he doesn't want Wukong to hide them.

Macaque just stays in Wukongs house. Like he just lives there and let's himself be know sometimes.

They have drawing sessions together.

Macaque HATES having his hair long. It's inconvenient, it gets stuck in his shadows, it makes him hotter because it warms his neck along with his scarf. If it gets even a INCH past his neck he has Wukong cut it immediately.

Wukong is a little spoon. Sometimes he's a big spoon but Macaque likes to hold him in his sleep so he just stays the little spoon.

They do that thing where one of them has one headphone in their ear and the other headphone is in the others ear. They love listening to music together.

They buy each other presents all the time. Wukong makes homemade presents with his art skills while Macaque steals from stores and malls to get Wukong expensive presents.

Macaque knows the basics of cooking and could make a decent meal but he pretends to be stupid so Wukong will make him his cooking.

Macaque has SO many pet names for Wukong while Wukong has like two. (Refrencing my art don't worry about that.)

Macaque loves the cold while Wukong can't STAND it.

Wukong is really good with kids and is a amazing babysitter. Macaque isn't bad with kids but when he tries to play with them he ends up scaring them.

If Macaque makes Wukong mad Wukong forces him to sleep on the couch.

Wukong hates scary movies because of the jump scares and the stupid decisions the characters make. Macaque LOVES scary movies but won't watch them if Wukong is in the room.

Macaque is super clingy and has at least one hand on Wukong at all times. It started as a nervous habit but then Macaque started doing it more when he started taking being Wukongs warrior seriously.

Their favorite shared food is fruit salad. They make them together alot.

Wukong has a walk in closet filled with clothes that he has either been gifted or he bought or made himself. Macaque owns like 4 shirts and 2 pairs of pants.

Macaque has a very dead tone so it sounds like he's being serious when he's joking. Wukong used to think Macaque didn't like him because he would say things in such a depressing tone it made Wukong think he was dead serious.

Macaque bought a blender specifically to make Wukong peach smoothies.

Wukong really likes to wear gold so Macaque will wear silver to match him.

Wukong has two pairs of moon earrings. A blue pair for Chang'e and a purple pair for Macaque.

Macaque hates his naturally white hair because he thinks it makes him look less scary. Wukong lives it cause it reminds him of clouds and snow.

Macaque loves when Wukong is blonde cause it means he's super happy.

Macaque has counted the freckles on Wukong's face so many time he can tell you the exact number he has.

Wukong steals Macaques scarf when it gets too cold out. He often forgets to give it back resulting in Macaque having tos each hours for it.

Wukong has A BUNCH of pillows and random covers. Macaque has to FIGHT to find a cheap space on their bed because of how many pillows and blankets their is.

Macaque loves grooming and running his hands through Wukongs hair cause he loves the cloud like texture.

Macaque doesn't like doing his makeup but if Wukong wants him to match with him he'll try his best to do it and make it look good.

Macaque intentionally makes himself look more unapproching and scary when he's out in public with Wukong so that people won't want to talk to him or Wukong.

They aren't legally married but Macaque gave Wukong a ring so long ago and he always wears it so he just calls Macaque his husband.

It is 1 am where I am and I should really stop defying sleep (I will be defying sleep).

The Bastard Son & the Devil Himself (Half Bad) (gif) - witchy, dark, gay, big potential for a natural polycule, excellent chemistry among the main three characters, I am so mad.

Dead End: Paranormal Park - a trans main character? Cute animation? Supernatural stuff? Hello???

Fate: The Winx Saga (gif) - so much fun, great acting, good soundtrack, good plot twists, childhood throwback, I want my Winx back.

First Kill - LESBIAN MAIN CHARACTERS in a classic trope of a monster (vampire) x monster (vampire) hunter forbidden love? The acting, at first, might not have been what I'd call great but I think it was more of the script's fault.

I Am Not Okay with This (gif) - dark, horror, teen, another lesbian main character, cute as hell, cancelled at the worst possible scene.

The Imperfects (gif) - a bit fucked up plot-wise, tbf, but all the more fun for it. Cool twists and abilities. And Rhys Nicholson as Dr. Alex Sarkov is hilarious. Also, a spin on an ace succubus. Lol.

Lockwood & Co. (gif) - the books were the slowest of slow burns and had the least reliable narrator of all time (Luce. I'm looking at you. Anthony Lockwood is also looking at you.) and the TV series chose the protagonists SO WELL 😭 I loved it. I want more. So much more.

Mindhunter - psychology of serial killers, this had SO MUCH potential for a tonne of more content.

Sense8 (gif) - different cultures, action, an evil old white man, explosions, martial arts, gayness, transness, LOVE CONQUERS ALL, BITCHES. Technically, it's finished, but it was rushed.

Shadow & Bone (gif) - wonderful fantasy! Try not to cry, cry a lot.

Spinning Out (gif) - actual believable representation of a mental/neurological illness (bipolar disorder) and stunning figure skating shots?! Cancelling it was a criminal offence

Jason was a lot of things.

A survivor, a fighter, a vigilante, a good soldier, someone's son.

But he wasn't perfect, no one is right? Perfect doesn't go out at night and use themselves to break those that have committed the sin of being on the wrong side of the law, perfect doesn't rage and seethe and pitifully ache for the love of the people they push away from as much as it begs those same people to let in, Jason's not perfect.

He's very aware at the very least, when he's rejected of things he knows it's because he's too much, too cruel with his words, too aggressive, makes too many waves. He won't forget, how can anyone else forget? Why is he the only one screaming?

But everything shifted just a little when he met them. (Name) Addams. They were so…. Odd, too loud and too happy, sticking out at all the wrong angles just so in a way Jason knew Gotham would grind down forcibly. she always does.

But…. They continued to be loud and wild and deliriously happy, they stabbed a man and grinned happily in their mugshot, they giggled madly in the face of super villains, even Bruce Wayne couldn't brow-beat them into submission, he hates that he envies them.

The worst yet was how they treated him, they heard he died and cooed at him, he snapped at them and called them vile names and they'd giggle behind their hand, he showed them the scars and marks of his hurt, his own pain and the pain he's caused others, and they kissed his palms and told him he was a work of art. It's infuriating how much he thought about that last incident.

He can't shove them away, no matter how hard he bites and pushes, but when he asks they leave. They laugh at his brute force like he's their favorite show in the world and lay gentle, reverent hands on him only when he allows them the chance.

Maybe that's why he started to ache for them too.

They don't allow him to shove himself into a corner of isolation, instead they act like they'd prefer to sit in the dirt with him at the edge of everyone else's comfort than sit at their table with the ‘good ones.’

they like that he's fucked up. Not even in the ‘you make me feel better about myself’ way either, they don't see him as company to their own misery, they just see him.

So maybe that's why he started going over to their house more, the place was unsettling and creepy and broken and…. He's starting to see a pattern here.

But Jason doesn't care, not when they give him what he's so desperately craved in his life, unconditional affection.

He doesn't need to fight to earn it or be the best of, he doesn't need to shove every single part of himself into a small, Robin shaped box to be worthy.

He goes to them, covered in blood and ichor and sin and they still caress his cheek like a monarch blessing their knight in red. He doesn't even know whose blood dribbles off his chin onto their hand when he kneels before them, but as he looks up at them in the dim light of their room, the yellowed lightbulb casting a halo around their head as blood drips onto them like pomegranate juice staining their fingers….

Jason suddenly understands what it's like to be completely mad for another imperfect, mad person.

How about some headcanons about Vil being a big brother to a five year old sibling that is a little sweetheart who can be grumpy at times?

Curiouser and Curiouser...

Vil’s a real pro at handling his sibling. He’s got plenty of practice dealing with his younger fans while the eyes of the public are trained on them. His own family? Not a problem!

Vil fusses over them. A lot. Also adopts a generally “mother knows best” attitude, although it’s not as stifling as what he takes on when dealing with peers his age. He’s gentler and more lenient with children! (Think of the Gordon Ramsay memes where he’s calling an adult chef a fucking donkey whereas he’s hugging and comforting the child chef.)

Their father has hired help for housework, but Vil himself knows a few things himself. If his sibling has toys out to play, he'll make them pick up after themselves. If they're hungry, he can easily slice up some fruit, veggies, or yogurt (you know, healthy snack options).

Not a fan of cuddles to the face—it’s going to muss his hair and makeup! He still complains a little about being hugged, but in that resigned way where you know he really doesn’t mean it. After all, how can Vil deny his sibling of a little physical affection?

Sometimes they gift him things, like crayon drawings (which aren’t very good) or “skincare” they mixed up (which is actually a bunch of random leaves and flowers mashed up and thrown into a cup of water). Vil gracefully thanks them and accepts the gifts, knowing they were made with heart. The drawings he’ll keep or tack up on the fridge, but the “skincare” he’ll dab onto his wrist or nonsensitive part of the body to “use” it up.

He frequently corrects their posture and their way of speaking. A five-year old, of course, is naturally clumsy and imperfect with their words--but Vil's on a mission to ensure that their manners are impeccable!

They do those "mommy and me" yoga classes together. Yes, with matching outfits. Other group activities might involve at-home spa days, arts and crafts, and movie nights (typically of a production Vil recently starred in).

When they’re in a foul mood or throwing a tantrum, Vil speaks to them sternly but not unreasonably. A child this age is expected to be immature, but won’t learn right from wrong if Vil just leaves them be. He’ll wait for their emotions to come back down a bit before having a serious talk with them about their behavior.

They’re grumpy or off sulking? Vil shakes his head and tells them they’re acting an awful lot like this dreadful prince from school. With a sigh, he’ll bring himself down to their eye level and ask them what’s the matter. From there, he’ll try to dispense the appropriate advice or wisdom.

Usually has to wrestle them to slather on sunscreen before they head out, which they squirm against. He responds by giving them lectures on taking care of their skin.

Uses their full name when scolding them. Often does the finger wag and drops the classic "I'm not mad, I'm just disappointed” line.

He encourages them to experiment with different forms of self-expression. They want to delve into his closet and vanity to try on new looks and makeup? Sure. Vil will even be there to help them coordinate. His little sibling will be the belle of kindergarten!

When they're out in public together, they wear the same big sunglasses, face masks, baseball cap, and tracksuit look. If things get tough and they get tailed by fans or reporters, Vil will shield his sibling with his own body or scoop them up and make a run for it.

As the sun climbed higher in the sky, now reaching about mid afternoon. You and Hinata found yourselves caught up in the festive spirit of Easter. "Babe, let’s make some decorated eggs!" he exclaimed, practically leaping out of his chair in his excitement, a wide grin spreading across his freckled face.

“Absolutely, that sounds like a good idea.” you replied, chuckling at his enthusiasm.

“I promise, it’ll be fun! After all, I’m kind of an artist, you know?” he declared, a hint of bravado in his voice, though you could see his eyes sparkled with playful mischief.

Now, sitting across the table, you both cradled a white egg in your hands—its delicate surface ready to be transformed. Hinata's focus was intense, his brows furrowed as he poured his heart into decorating. The result was a whimsical drawing that featured two stick figures, labeled delicately as “Yn” and “Shoyo.” The art was certainly not a masterpiece, but the joy radiating from Hinata as he admired his work made every imperfect line utterly charming.

You couldn’t help but smile back at him as he gazed at you with such pride and affection, his eyes shining with admiration. In that moment, you knew there was no way you could burst his bubble, not when he looked at you like that.

For Easter, Osamu was in the mood to cook (when isn’t he, I wonder?). You two had planned to bake various treats and prepare some actual food (due to Osamu's insistence). “Babe, you can’t keep licking the frosting off your fingers; we haven’t eaten anything yet, and you’re going to get a tummy ache,” he sighed in disappointment as he noticed your eyes dulling at his reprimand.

“It’s just too good,” you whined. You probably should have listened to Samu because by the time you both finished frosting the cupcakes, your stomach began to twist and turn.

“Samuuu, it hurts,” you complained as you leaned into your boyfriend's strong chest.

“I told you so, babe,” he replied, rolling his eyes but unable to stay mad at you. He loved you too much and thought you were too cute to be upset.

YOICHI ISAGIᯓ

For Easter this year, you invited Yoichi to join you and your family. Your parents decided to put you and Yoichi in charge of hiding the eggs for your younger sister. “Yoichi, don’t make it too hard—she’s barely seven, you know.” You watched him as he attempted to hide an egg a bit too high for your sister to reach. “I guess you're right,” he chuckled lightly.

“You can hide the eggs however high you want when we have kids, just as long as you help them,” you added casually as you went to hide an egg in the wet grass. Your comment made him freeze. “We? Having kids? You and him?” His mind raced with thoughts, almost as if he was already planning for it.

“Uhhh, are you okay?” you asked, concerned as you noticed your boyfriend standing there, red in the face. “No, yeah, yeah, I’m fine. Just... thinking,” he brushed it off, not wanting to embarrass himself.

“Okay, babe, come on. Let's finish hiding these so we can watch her find them,” you laughed at your silly boyfriend. “Yeah, let’s,” he replied, feeling ecstatic at the thought of someday doing this with kids of your own.

RIN ITOSHIᯓ

This year for Easter, you planned to surprise Rin with a cute bunny cake that you baked yourself. You anticipated giving it to him after he returned from one of his intense workouts at the gym. What you didn’t realize, however, was that Rin also had a surprise for you.

Rin wasn’t one to celebrate holidays, except for your birthday, Valentine’s Day, or Christmas. He loved giving you gifts on those occasions. Beyond that, he didn’t see much meaning in celebrating anything else. But when he noticed how excited you were about Easter—especially when you even dressed your cat up for pictures with the Easter bunny—he knew he had to get you something special for the holiday too.

As he opened the door, holding a thoughtfully chosen basket, he was met with your beautiful smile and the funny-looking bunny cake in your hands.

“Hi, Rin,” you said, beaming with joy.

“Hi, my love. It seems we both had plans to surprise each other,” he replied, lifting the basket.

“Rin, you didn’t have to! Oh my gosh, it’s so cute!” you exclaimed, nearly dropping the cake in excitement.

It was safe to say that Rin had just added another holiday to his list of celebrations.

Hello everyone! I am so thrilled to announce the launch of the psych survivor zine, now available to download on www.psychsurvivorarchive.com.

A little bit about this project:

The Psych Survivor Archive is an abolitionist organization deeply invested in mad liberation and cross-movement organizing.

We host two projects: the Psych Survivor Zine and the Digital Story Archive. The Psych Survivor Zine celebrates Mad art in volumes released twice a year, with thematic prompts for each edition. The Digital Story Archive is a more informal forum for psych survivors to write about our lives and share as much as we want, when we want, how we want. 

Through this archive, I hope to create a platform where psych survivors are believed and the psych system is held accountable for the ways it has harmed us. Our pain, resistance, knowledge, and grief are worth listening to, and I offer up this archive as a communal method of bearing witness. 

This space is for the imperfect crazy person, the noncompliant patient, those of us who trash our rooms in the psych ward and yell to ourselves on the street. This space is for our comrades still incarcerated in all kinds of institutions and prisons. This space is for anyone who has been harmed by the psychiatric system and wants to rage about it–and this space is for anyone who doesn’t have the words to talk about it. 

This space is for you.

Misconceptions I've had about Hestia

Whenever working with a new deity, I've learned that the myth doesn't always match the (wo)man. But a lack of mythos adds a whole new layer that I encountered when working with Hestia for the first time. I realized that, because there's not much about her, the little information out there has a high likelihood of not being true. And the few myths about her are maybe 3 sentences? So I decided to share some things that I've learned for input. There's also some general advice, as Hestia is the first goddess I've fully worked with. Coming up one year now, yayyyy!

1~ Hestia is passive

Ha! Not really! Many people believe that because Hestia is a home goddess and stays on Mt. Olympus, she's passive and unassertive. But from what I've learned, that could be farther from the truth. Despite Poseidon and Apollo's advances, she stayed true to what she wanted. She picked her job, chose what she wanted to do, and she's stuck to it. That's part of why she took her vow to Zeus, so she would have no man to deter her from the life she chose. That, I think, is crucial to hear these days, especially with the rise of trad wives and feminism. She is the prime example that it should be your choice and not anyone else's. Yes, she is calm and peaceful compared to her siblings, but she's also powerful in her quiet nature. There's a power in that.

2~ To devote yourself to Hestia, you have to be completely modest and veil all the time.

This was a hard one for me going into it. I thought that to devote myself, I had to stay true to all her virtues. And I tried to dress how I thought she would want me to. However, I realized that I felt so unhappy and nothing like myself. I was already fairly modest by nature, but I still felt like I wasn't modest enough. I prayed that night, did a little meditation, and I realized something. I don't have to be exactly like her to worship her. I can just be myself. Hestia, as a hospitable and kind goddess, she will take you and love you as you come. Recently, I've gotten myself real veils, but for a while I've just used a red hair tie while doing housework. And again, it wasn't all the time, just while while cleaning or cooking. And that's okay, she won't hate you for it!

3~ She'll be mad if you don't do your house chores on time or if you mess up cooking

This has got to be my anxiety showing, because looking back, there's no way that she would be like this. Cooking and baking are imperfect arts. Things tend to go wrong. And when they do, you just have a second, pick yourself up by your bootstraps, and keep going. If you mess up, Hestia is there for you: she lets you take those moments and guides you to get up and keep going, keep persevering, and finish that casserole. When it comes to chores, those are a lot harder, especially for neurodivergent people (like myself). Sometimes it can feel like that hardest thing in the world. But Hestia knows that, and she doesn't mind. As long as it gets done. Even if the laundry load is so big it feels like a mountain, she'll help you climb it. She knows, and she's there for you.

4~ By family, she means blood family.

Also no. Family is a very different thing than it was in Greek times. Now, family is what you make it, not who you're related to, and if your family is a danger to you, you have every right to not call them family. Hestia, along with being protector of hearth and home, she is the protector of those without a hearth to go to, those who don't have a stable home. She knows that family isn't linear, and I believe she wants everyone to have a stable family, no matter what it looks like. What is a home but the bricks you make it out of?, what is a fireplace but the kindling you put in it?
