Astel Leda's debut slides
Most Holostars JP debut thumbnails have a similar background pattern but he and a handful of Holostars talent deviated from that made a personalized one. I noticed that after seeing Astel's thumbnail compared to his SunTempo genmates.

[WINNER INTERVIEW] I Nailed My Internship!
Tumblr media
- Interview with Heeyoon Kim of winner MAD STARS 2023 & Cheil Worldwide Internship Participant
Every year, MAD STARS offers internship opportunities at renowned advertising agencies for winners of the General Public (Bronze or higher) and YOUNG STARS (Crystal or higher) categories!
Last year, 14 companies, including Serviceplan Korea, Ideot, Cheil Worldwide, and HSAD, participated. This year, we're thrilled to announce that many agencies are eagerly preparing special internship programs exclusively for MAD STARS winners! It's an exciting opportunity for participants to not only showcase their talents but also to kickstart their careers with valuable hands-on experience in top-tier agencies.
We had the pleasure of speaking with Heeyoon Kim, who achieved remarkable success at MAD STARS 2023 in the General Public, earning 1 Silver, and 3 Crystals.
Heeyoon worked on an internship at Cheil Worldwide after her remarkable achievements. As an art director intern, Heeyoon worked under the ECD Soora Min team at Cheil Worldwide's Production 3 Headquarters since January this year.
Since 2022, she has passionately pursued her dream of becoming an advertising art director. Her journey has been enriched by various experiences at MAD STARS, where she participated in both the General Public and Young Stars MAD Competition.
We delved into Heeyoon's journey at MAD STARS and her enriching internship experience!
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Q. Please introduce yourself in brief.
A. Hello! My name is Heeyoon Kim, and I dream of becoming an advertising art director.
My greatest joy lies in sharing my creations with others and observing their reactions.
It seems like just yesterday that I was awestruck by the award-winning works at MADSTARS, my heart racing with excitement. Now, finding myself as a winner and being interviewed feels incredibly surreal. I'm genuinely honored to have this opportunity😄
Q. You have been recognized in the General Public of MAD STARS for two years in a row since 2022.
What made you decide to enter MAD STARS?
* Heeyoon Kim's MAD STARS Awards -MAD STARS 2023 General Public: 1 Silver, 3 Crystal, 8 Finalists - MAD STARS 2022 General Public: 1 Finalist
A. Recognized as one of Asia's premier advertising contests, MAD STARS annually attracts a plethora of outstanding entries.
Notably, many of these works have received accolades from MAD STARS and other internationally acclaimed advertising competitions. Feeling inspired to develop through competing alongside these distinguished works, I naturally decided to submit my own.
Q. Tell us about your favorite piece of work you've submitted to MAD STARS.
A. While I hold deep affection for all the submissions if I had to choose just one, it would be 'First Ukraine Michelin Stars'.
Tumblr media
First Ukraine Michelin Stars Innovation Stars - Silver / PIVOT - Crystal, 2023
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
This was a project carried out with a team member full of passion, and it was especially meaningful because it developed ideas to assist Ukraine, which is suffering from the impacts of war. Throughout the project, our team focused on finding ways to naturally help Ukraine without instilling guilt or being coercive.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
During this process, we discovered that Ukraine did not have a single Michelin Star restaurant, which led to the idea of opening a Michelin Star restaurant that sells Ukrainian traditional food, thereby preserving its culinary culture. Implementing this project required consideration of everything from the restaurant's logo to the menu, dishes, and interior, during which our team members really put in a lot of effort.
The team worked tirelessly, day and night, researching Ukrainian traditional food and culture, and holding meetings to gradually develop the idea. As a result, I am truly happy that this work allowed us to win both Silver and Crystal awards at the Busan International Marketing Advertising Festival.😊
Q. Especially last year, in addition to being finalists in the General Public, you won four trophies, including Silver and Crystal.
I'm curious about your strategy for achieving significantly more awards in 2023 compared to 2022 when you were one work finalist (which, of course, is still a significant achievement!).
Did you focus on anything specific or put in extra effort in 2023 compared to 2022?
A. In 2022, the work that was selected as a finalist in the General Public category was a project I undertook individually rather than with a team.
Naturally, handling everything from planning to production on my own presented many challenges, and without team members to discuss ideas with, it took me a long time to gain confidence in my ideas. Following this experience, I met team members who shared my vision, and we worked together, leveraging our teamwork.
Working with passionate team members made it possible to smile even in the toughest moments, and by dividing roles and bringing out each other's expertise, we seemed to create greater synergy. As a result, we were able to produce works of higher quality, which I believe led to winning more awards.
Q. In addition to entering the General Public, you have participated in YOUNG STARS, a college student marketing and advertising competition, for two years in a row since 2022.
What made you decide to participate in YOUNG STARS for the second year in a row?
* Heeyoon Kim's YOUNG STARS Awards - 2023 YOUNG STARS MAD Competition: Finalist -2022 YOUNG STARS AD Competition: Silver
A. The chance to compete with students from various countries was the most appealing aspect to me.
Furthermore, I believed that competing alongside many students who love advertising would enhance my passion for it even more, leading me to participate in Youngstars for two consecutive years.
Q. You participated in the YOUNG STARS Final Round in Busan, Korea last year.
Do you have any funny stories from the event?
A. In 2022, I couldn't participate in the on-site competition due to COVID-19, but in 2023, being able to join the on-site competition and meet college students from various nationalities in person was probably the most enjoyable part for me.
When communicating with foreign students, I mainly used English, but sometimes, when I wanted to have a newer and more enjoyable conversation, I used a translation app to show the translated language in real time. During this process, there were translation errors, but that made the interactions more enjoyable and helped us become friends naturally. I still keep in touch with a Chinese friend I got close to at that time!😄
Q. What skills do you think you've been able to develop through YOUNG STARS?
A. Working in a team on the project allowed us to refine our ideas through discussions and collaboration, thereby fostering our teamwork.
Furthermore, among the students participating in Young Stars, many exhibited exceptional planning and production talents, from whom I could learn a lot just by observing their work. I analyzed the strengths of the winning teams and reflected on my shortcomings, contemplating how I could further develop my ideas.
I believe this process helped me improve my ability to flesh out ideas.
Q. As a winner of the 2023 MAD STARS General Public, you participated in a six-week internship program at Cheil Worldwide.
What kind of work did you do at Cheil Worldwide?
A. During my internship, I worked as an Art Director intern at Cheil Worldwide, under the team led by Soora Min ECD.
I had the opportunity to work with various teams and experience multiple clients. My responsibilities primarily included video advertisement ideation, key visual development, and digital campaign ideation.
Tumblr media
The most memorable moment for me was participating in a competitive presentation from start to finish with the ECD team. Despite the tight timeline, it was thrilling when our team won the competition.
Given the short duration of my internship, it was not easy to experience the entire process of a competitive pitch from start to finish, so I believe I was quite fortunate. 😊
Q. What did you learn from the internship program?
A. I've realized the importance of trend analysis. When creating advertisements, being able to interpret trends seems like the fastest way to gain a competitive edge.
Not only should one be aware of advertising trends, but it's also beneficial to understand the critical issues in society, what interests the younger generation, and what memes are trending, among other things. It's advantageous to have a broad range of interests, to the extent that others might say, "Wow, you know about this too?"
I believe that having such diverse interests and a better understanding of trends can lead to the generation of many new and engaging ideas when it comes to creating advertising concepts.
Q. What were some of the challenges you faced during your internship and something you felt you could improve upon?
A. When tasked with generating advertising ideas for unfamiliar products or services, I found setting a direction and concretizing a concept particularly challenging. Even in areas that I'm not well-versed in, I still needed to delve deep and propose ideas convincing enough for the client, which was initially really tough. 😢
So, whenever I was at a loss for the right direction, I made it a point to jot down all the ideas from team members during each meeting, striving to clearly understand the client's desired direction. I also endeavored to analyze related market cases, seeking elements and methods that could differentiate us in the market.
There are still many brands and products I've yet to experience, so moving forward, I thought about the importance of preemptively thinking about how I could turn the many things I encounter in daily life into advertisements.
Q. What changes did you see in yourself before and after the internship?
A. Previously, I focused on generating fresh and fun ideas, but after my internship, I shifted my focus towards creating solutions that align with the actual needs of clients. Compared to before, I believe I've learned to think more strategically.
Additionally, working with wonderful people who have taught me so much has made me realize that I need to become more humble.😄
Q. What kind of person do you want to become as you start building your career?
A. Rather than aspiring to become someone great, I want to be a person who still loves advertising and creativity as time goes by. Even when work becomes overwhelming, I wish to continue working with passion and excitement in my heart!
Also, since I don't know what opportunities life may bring or where I might end up working in the future, I'm determined to study English more diligently to become someone who doesn't feel hindered by language barriers.

A Gift
Luke x ghost!reader
Summary: It's your birthday and you wish you could spend it with your family. Luke and the band try to cheer you up (super fluffy).
Requested?: Nope
Fandom: Julie and the Phantoms
A/n: This kinda came out of nowhere and once I had the idea I got carried away. I hope y'all like it!!
For you birthdays were a big thing when you were alive. You and your family would always go on a camping trip and have the time of your lives together. It wasn’t just limited to your family either, it was open to your friends too. It was your favorite tradition.
When you had met Luke, you had been looking forward to inviting him and the band, but then the fateful night at the Orpheum had happened. You and the rest of the band had died that night, now it was twenty-twenty and you were ghosts.
It had been great meeting Julie and forming a band with her, but as your birthday rolled around you were feeling immensely sad. Like Luke you had visited their family and you had seen them preparing to go on the camping trip in your honor. While it made you happy to see them keeping up the tradition, it also felt like a stab to the heart that you couldn’t be there with them.
In the days leading up to your birthday you had grown quiet and more reserved, struggling to find the energy to be happy. You couldn’t visit your family anymore, it just made you cry, but knowing that they were camping and you couldn’t be there also made you cry. It was a lose-lose.
So you had spent most of your time at the beach, watching the ocean and letting it calm you. There was something so relaxing about the way the waves moved and the push and pull of the tide. It was also nice to have privacy, just the crashing waves to keep you company.
It was inevitable that the band would notice your mood and absence of course, and notice they did.
You were at the beach, watching the ocean like normal. It was admittedly a beautiful day for your birthday. The sun was just breaking through the marine layer, creating bright orange patterns on the clouds.
Luke poofed in beside you, startling you out of your sad thoughts. The two of you had been dating since you got the band together and he was always there to comfort you.
“Hey,” he said, wrapping an arm around you. You sniffed in return.
“You didn’t think I would forget what today is, did you?” He asked, giving a small smile.
“No,” you answered, smiling a little bit.
“Good,” he stood up in front of you and grabbed your hands. “You are amazing and you are so great and understanding when it comes to me missing my parents, now it’s my turn to help you with your grief.”
You didn’t have time to respond before you felt the cold sand disappear from beneath you. The world shifted to new surroundings, ones that you definitely did not recognize.
“Luke?” You asked, letting go of his hand. You weren’t exactly in the mood for any surprises at the moment.
Luke moved back to standing in front of you. “Trust me on this, okay?”
He took your hand again and led you down a path. You looked around, trying to find anything that would clue you into where you were.
You slowly began to recognize your surroundings and you stopped walking. “What’s wrong?” Luke asked, stopping with you once he realized you weren’t moving.
“Luke, I-I’ve already visited, seeing them just makes me even sadder.”
“That isn’t why we’re here, Y/n/n. I’ve got a completely unrelated surprise for you.”
You hesitantly began to walk and Luke gave you an encouraging smile. “You are going to have a great day today. I promise.”
You gave him a weak and slightly nervous smile as you followed him. You walked over a hill and what you saw made you smile for real.
Julie and her family were setting up a campsite while the rest of the band and Flynn helped. After the whole Caleb fiasco Julie had let her family in on the ghostly little secret.
“Happy Birthday!” Luke exclaimed, gesturing excitedly at everyone.
“Happy Birthday, Y/n!” Everyone called, though Flynn, Carlos, Victoria, and Ray were a little late since they didn’t see your arrival.
You smiled at your found family. “Guys, this is so sweet.”
“Oh, this isn’t everything,” Reggie said excitedly. “Wait till you see what else we have planned.”
For the first time in a while, you forgot your grief and excitement replaced it. “I can’t wait.”
~~~~
After a few incredibly fun activities, you made it back to your campsite. The sun was still up and you had a while before everyone would eat dinner.
Still hyped up you had a lot of energy and you didn’t know if you could just sit around and chat or play cards. Thankfully Carlos suggested a game of Ultimate frisbee and once the words were out of his mouth, Reggie was chanting it to. You were definitely up for a game and from there, teams were formed.
It was you, Julie, and Alex versus Luke, Reggie, Flynn, and Carlos. You may or may not have specifically engineered it to have Alex on your team, him being the tallest gave an advantage.
You took on Luke. He smirked at you as Alex threw the frisbee to Julie and Flynn intercepted. You rolled your eyes and saw Flynn get ready to throw the frisbee at Carlos. Julie was trying to guard her and Alex was on Reggie, so in a split second you ran over to Carlos. You knew you were faster than Luke so you’d be able to get to Carlos and catch the frisbee first and fortunately you were right.
You intercepted and Luke tried to guard you, giving you a pouty face when Alex caught your throw. You smirked at him, running past Alex to the area near your goal. You had barely stopped running when Alex tossed the frisbee back to you. Luke was almost to you and Julie was open. You threw it to her and smiled as she caught it, scoring a point.
“We’ll get it next time,” Luke called running off towards his team's end of the field.
“Sure!” You called back, a bright smile on your face. However, Luke was right, his team scored the next two times and your team scored the last time before dinner, leaving you at a tie.
You all made your way back to the campsite and you ghosts sat down while the ‘lifers’ got their food.
“It was interesting seeing the frisbee get caught in midair.” Ray chuckled as he took his seat, almost sitting in Reggie before Julie warned him.
“Yes, I’m glad you were having fun,” Victoria said, patting Julie. You smiled at the gesture, trying not to feel sad about your own aunts.
Dinner was full of fun chatting and Julie translating for you and the guys. After dinner the guys got their instruments out and began to sing ‘happy birthday’ to you. You sang along so everyone could see you and it turned into an impromptu concert.
As the sun disappeared and the stars came out, you and your found family sang, enjoying the moment. You would definitely treasure these memories for years to come.
After you finished singing Luke came over to you. “Just close your eyes for a second,” he said, grinning at you like an excited puppy. You did what he asked, though rather reluctantly.
“Guys, you didn’t have to get me anything.”
“We wanted to,” Alex said.
You heard a lot of shuffling right in front of you and eventually Luke spoke. “Okay, open your eyes.”
In front of you was a small pile of gifts. “Guys-“
Luke cut you off before you could protest any further, “Stop, you deserve all of this and more. And don’t say you feel bad for not doing more for our birthdays, I know how long it takes you to knit those scarves.”
“Fine,” you smiled. “Which one first?”
“Ooo! Open mine!” Reggie begged, pointing at a cleanly wrapped box.” You unwrapped it, careful to make sure none of the trash went anywhere, and gasped at what you were holding. It was an incredibly detailed and beautiful sketch of a horse.
“Reggie, did you draw this?”
He nodded. “And it’s got the first country song we wrote together on it.”
You beamed at him. “We’ll get that country album some day,” you vowed, gently nudging Luke when he rolled his eyes.
“Mine next,” Alex requested, pointing to an even more elaborately wrapped box. You opened it to see Alex had decorated your old guitar strap, painting it with your favorite colors. You had been meaning to do that since you got it and you were grateful he had taken the initiative.
“I love it.”
“Good, I’m not that artistic so I didn’t know what to get you and then I remembered that you had been meaning to decorate your guitar strap since you got it, so I did it,” Alex rambled.
You laughed. “How very thoughtful of you.”
You turned your attention back to the rest of the stack, but Luke was already ready. “Here’s mine.”
“You took the small package from him and opened it. Inside was a little box and in that there was a necklace. The pendant was an old guitar pick branded with the sunset curve logo and with it was a little card in Luke’s messy handwriting: A memento of the band we started all those years ago.
“I think I’m gonna cry.” You put your hand to your mouth and Luke took the necklace from the box, putting it on you.
“I love you so much,” Luke whispered to you.
“I love you too,” you whispered back, kissing his cheek.
After admiring the necklace for a little while longer, you went to open the rest of the pile. Julie got you a gift card so you could shop together(you still only had your clothes from the nineties). Ray gave you a framed photograph of you guys at the garage party singing Edge of Great and Carlos got you a ball of yarn. Even Victoria even got you a little candle that you absolutely adored and Flynn got you a bracelet that matched one that she and Julie were wearing.
“Guys, these are all so great, I can’t thank you enough! You better bet I’ll be stepping it up for your guys’ birthdays.”
“Looking forward to it,” Carlos said, after Julie repeated what you said. He turned to his left and smiled at you and you laughed, you were sitting more to his right.
“Tell him that I can’t wait,” you requested and Julie obliged.
While she did that you got up and hugged everyone you could. “Guys, this could not have been a better day.”
“It’s not over yet. We have one last gift for you!” Reggie said excitedly and you smiled brightly, tears of joy forming in your eyes.
“You guys didn’t have to,” you protested, blushing at the kindness they had been showing you. “You’ve already done so much for me.”
“Yes we did.” Julie sat down next to you and Luke sat on the other side, with an arm around you while Reggie and Alex leaned in behind you. You tilted your head as Julie turned on her phone and went to her camera roll.
You were about to ask what was going on when she played a video. Julie and the guys appeared on screen and you saw that they were standing outside the garage.
“Happy Birthday, Y/n!” They all yelled and you smiled, expecting them to do a little birthday recording of a song for you, but instead of getting their instruments Luke spoke.
“We noticed how sad you were about your parents and we had this idea...” with that the screen shifted.
You were only more confused when you recognized the inside of your parents house. It was easy to tell that the camera was filming from just inside your old kitchen. You watched curiously as Julie and your parents stepped into the frame.
“If you could say one thing to her, what would you say?” Julie asked and you realized she was talking about you.
Your mom sniffed, tears in her eyes. “I’d let her know how much I love her and how proud we are of her. I just wish we could tell her that. She was so talented, I just wish she could have lived her dream.”
Tears welled in your eyes at what your mom said, but they started falling when your dad spoke. “I’d wish her a happy birthday and tell her that I wish she could come camping with us. We kept up our tradition and I just wish she could know how much she meant-means to us. We missed out on so much with her and though we can’t get it back I hope she knows that we love her with all of our hearts.”
The video faded into a slideshow of some pictures of you, and in the background Now or Never was playing.
A good majority of the old pictures were taken during your camping trips and it was interesting to see how you had grown. When you were twelve, guitars began to appear in the pictures and there were quite a few ones of you playing around a campfire. Everyone was laughing in those, and it made you smile to remember when they were taken.
After the pictures of your family, they faded to pictures of you with the guys. There was even one of your first gig, you recalled that your mom had taken it. Your parents had been so excited for you. You had always felt so lucky to have such supportive parents.
From there, there were the newest pictures, ones of you with Julie and even some from your current camping trip that she must have added at the last minute.
After the last picture faded away you immediately grabbed all of your friends into a group hug. You couldn’t believe they had done this for you. You felt so unbelievably honored and touched.
You sniffed. “Guys, how did you do this?”
“Well, Alex, Reggie, and I got most of the pictures, we used some cameras to sneak them,” Luke explained.
“Yeah, it was not easy. I can’t count the number of times your parents almost saw the floating cameras,” Reggie said and you laughed.
You turned to Julie. “It means the world to me that you got my parents to say that. How?”
“I told them that I was trying to get to know the old band that had once practiced in my garage and from there they told me everything.” You hugged the girl tightly.
“I can’t begin to explain how much this means to me.” You opened your mouth to explain more, but nothing came out. “Just...this is...wow, guys. I-I just, thank you? I don’t know, thank you doesn’t sound like enough.”
“You don’t have to explain, Y/n, we’re just glad you liked it,” Alex said.
“After this, I’m gonna make sure you guys have great birthdays too.” Some more tears fell. “I just, wow.”
“So you liked it?” Luke asked and you beamed at him.
“I loved it.”
****
Tada, I hope y'all enjoyed this! Once I started writing it bloomed into this and I'm happy with what it came out to be. It's also been a while since I played frisbee, so sorry if the rules are wrong. Anyways, I loved writing this and I hope y'all have a fantastically safe and wonderful day/night!
Also if you want me to do more gender neutral fics just let me know, I only do she/her because that's what I’m most comfortable with, but please let me know if you want they/them on more stuff. I want to make this blog inclusive.
P.S. I am open to requests, but I won't get to them until after Halloween :) Please check my blog for the pinned post before requesting.
P.P.S. if you want to be on my taglist for all things Julie and the Phantoms, feel free to ask. I hope it works and please message me if it doesn’t.
Wasted Love (part 1) [T.S.]
Tumblr media
A/N: Hi I’m back!! Starting the year right with a new series (probably about five parts) with Tyler since I haven’t posted a full length fic for him yet. This isn’t fully written so bear with me and my slow updates, I’ve had this outlined for a long time and I’m very excited to start sharing it with you all! Please let me know what you think of it, feedback really means the world. <3
Word count: 2863
Warnings: alludes to smut, an abusive boyfriend
.
“It’s too early for this,” Alessia muttered to herself and stifled a yawn as she walked into the room the meeting was to be held in.
A few people were already in the room, some with disposable coffee cups set on the table and others standing around and talking to their colleagues. The green light of the stars logo on the screen reflected on the faces of those standing closest to it.
Alessia headed straight for the table, finding an empty spot that wasn’t next to anyone. Everyone in the room was older than her, at least in their thirties, and she didn’t know a single person. At twenty two, Alessia had been more than lucky to score a position in team services for the Dallas Stars.
She was dressed simply but professionally with navy suit trousers and a white blouse. She was well aware of how pointless spending hours picking an outfit had been this morning, but she couldn’t help but want to try her hardest to look a little bit older in the middle of all those people. It was hard enough to be a woman in the middle of a male dominated company, she didn’t need to hear anyone be condescending to her because of her age too.
It was still Alessia’s first week in this facility, so she wasn’t used to how things worked just yet. Giving clear instructions didn’t seem to be in anyone’s habits around here, she was shown to an office on her first day and everything else came by email. It was the reason she was fifteen minutes early to this meeting rather than on time, she had been worried she wouldn’t be able to find the room.
A familiar face eventually came into view, but Alessia didn’t feel any comfort. Her boss was more scary than reassuring. Surely enough, everyone else followed quickly after the man and took their seats. A lot remained empty, including the one to Alessia’s right, and she only understood why when a group of men dressed in gym clothes walked in.
The guys on the team were rarely dressed professionally if they didn’t need to be, and Alessia knew they’d practice as soon as the meeting was over.
“Morning,” One of them grinned as he took a seat next to her.
“Hello,” Alessia smiled politely before returning her attention to the front page of the presentation that was being projected on the screen.
A giddy feeling filled her as the reality of her life sunk in. She made it. She got a job for the NHL that she had dreamed of for so many years, and she was now sitting in a meeting with her favorite team of players. The nerves of being new weren’t going away anytime soon, but Alessia still took a moment to remind herself she deserved to be proud of what she had achieved.
You don’t get to sit next to Tyler freaking Seguin for the first time every day.
The fangirling in her mind lasted very few seconds as she drifted into work mode to focus on the meeting. She knew all too well that nothing of importance would be said for her, but she also hoped it’d give her a better sense of what everyone else did.
.
It was only hours later in her office that someone finally came to talk to her. Alessia almost jumped in excitement when she heard the knock on her open door. She was already sick of emails and she was ready for some human interactions.
“Oh, hi,” Alessia straightened up in her seat at the sight of Tyler. “What can I do for you?”
“I just came to say hello, I’m Tyler,” he smiled and introduced himself. “I figured it was your first meeting this morning?”
“You figured right,” She got up and shook his hand. “I’m Alessia, I just started on Monday,”
“That’s cool, you even made old Abby’s office look kinda nice,” Tyler looked at the plant on her desk and the one framed picture of a golden retriever hanging on the wall. It wasn’t much decoration, but if there was a picture of a dog it was good enough for him to like it.
“Old Abby?” She frowned at the words and he cringed.
“I take it you didn’t meet the woman who worked here before you took the job?”
“No I didn’t have a chance to meet anyone around here, really,” Alessia admitted, it was a relief that someone was here for a little bit of small talk with her.
“Well, let’s just say she was old and cranky. It’s nice to see someone that actually knows how to smile,” Tyler explained and chuckled at the look of shock on her face. “I’m not joking, everyone on the team avoided asking her for anything because of it, she was that bad.”
“Ah, so did you lose a bet or something to be the one to check out who replaced her?” She grinned and he had the decency of looking a little embarrassed.
“It was a rocks paper scissors game,” Tyler admitted, scratching the back of his neck. “I’m glad I’ve met you though. I’ll let you get work done, see you around?”
“Yeah, sure, I promise I’ll be smiling if you ever need to ask me for anything,” Alessia teased and he beamed in response.
“Careful there, I might start needing a lot of things.” He winked before walking out.
.
In the following weeks Alessia got to know everyone on the team. As it turned out, the guys always needed help with something and she was the one they constantly went to. She was part of a small team of people, she wasn’t their only option, but she was still the one who received the most visits and emails.
Tyler liked to joke and say it was because of her undeniable charm, to which Alessia shook her head and laughed. He of all people had heard the most about her personal life, so he was well aware of her relationship status and knew she wasn’t flirting with anyone. He had asked about Jordan one day when he noticed all the pictures she had put up on the wall behind her desk to join the one of the golden retriever.
Jordan was Alessia’s boyfriend when she was still at university, he worked in finances for a pharmaceutical company and they shared an apartment. Tyler never asked her much about that once he got the basic info, he was too focused on her dog to care about anything else.
Alessia got him when she was fourteen for Christmas, it was her uncle’s idea and her parents had no choice but to roll with it once the puppy was in her arms. The only issue was that this specific uncle also had a five years old daughter who had decided Peanut was a great name for a goldie. No one had the heart to argue with her on such a happy day and the name stuck.
“You’re making me want to take a trip to London just to pet him,” He admitted when Alessia showed him a video of the ball of fluff running into a pile of autumn leaves.
“If you go, take me with you. All I want is Peanut and cuddles on the couch,” She sighed, leaning back into her desk chair to relax. Tyler was the closest thing she had to a friend here, and he spent more time than he should in her office with the door closed so that they could both catch a break while pretending to work.
“I’m not sure your parents would be too happy to hear that,” Tyler thought of what her family would say at the words, but she only laughed.
“Oh they know, don’t worry, my dog is my life, as soon as I get a big enough place I’m bringing him here to live with me.” She explained her plan, she simply couldn’t have a dog this big in her apartment, especially since she wasn’t home at all during the day.
“Alright, until then if I go to London I’ll drag you along. You’ll have to make me visit all the best places in exchange,” he told her, which she figured wasn’t much in exchange for a trip on another continent.
“I can agree to that,” Alessia hummed and he grinned.
“Then it’s a deal, Allie,”
“Allie?” Her eyebrow raised at the use of the nickname, and Tyler suddenly felt a lot less confident.
“Can I call you that? I didn’t know what to shorten your name to,” he asked with some hesitancy in case there was something she didn’t like about it.
“Yeah, yeah Allie is fine,” she nodded while a shy smile grew on her face.
No one apart from her family and childhood best friend called her that, but she didn’t feel like explaining it. She could only hope it wouldn’t spread to the rest of the team and ruin how special the nickname was to her. She got along with most of the guys well, the younger ones needed her help a lot and they weren’t formal so it made for easy friendships. Tyler was the right in between, he was a few years older than her but still goofy, so she got along with him best, and for some reason she felt like giving him the special privilege of using that nickname.
.
“Hey J,” Alessia pushed the door to their shared apartment open and relaxed in the warmth of the air she was met with.
“Hey, how was your day?” Jordan got up from the couch, walking over to kiss her.
“Normal work day,” She replied after they parted. “I had lunch with the team, Tyler spilled coffee on my blouse, but other than that nothing interesting,” She relayed the only event that was special about the day and Jordan noticed the stain.
“He sounds like a prick, why are you friends with him?” He asked, still standing in her way to get in. Alessia bit the inside of her cheek as she thought of her answer. It was something she had to do often, Jordan was always pointing out things her friends did that he didn’t like.
“It was just an accident,” She bent down to take her shoes off before placing them on the rack. She noticed his were in the way and put them in the right place too. He must have simply kicked them off when he walked in.
“He’s just another one of those guys,” Jordan shrugged, and she frowned at that.
“What do you mean?” She didn’t want to start an argument with him, but Tyler was one of the people she got along with best on the team. He was her closest work friend, so she didn’t want Jordan to think he was a bad guy.
“You know, one of those guys that wouldn’t even look your way if they didn’t have to,” He explained himself. “I’m here with you though,” He tilted her chin up and she nodded.
“I’m glad I have you,” Alessia whispered softly, letting him kiss her.
Jordan did a lot for her. He helped her be more confident when he paid attention to her. She knew he was right with his statement, other guys rarely ever looked her way. He was the most important person in her life, she wouldn’t have many people around her if it weren’t for him.
When he stepped away, Alessia took her jacket off and hung it by the door before finally walking into the apartment. It felt good to be home. Jordan returned to the couch and grabbed his phone, going back to staring at the screen. An occasional chuckle left him when he stumbled onto something that made him laugh.
“Can you make dinner?” He asked her with a glance, not even adding a please at the end of his sentence.
“Sure,” Alessia took a deep breath and pushed the sleeves of her blouse up to her elbows. There was no point in changing now that it was stained.
She didn’t say anything when he didn’t thank her and headed to the kitchen silently. He didn’t usually help her when she cooked, so she knew she at least wouldn’t have to hear him complain while she prepared dinner.
A hint of guilt filled her when she realised she was thinking of him so badly. Jordan treated her well, he was just having a rough day. He wasn’t very good at cooking, it only made sense that she’d make dinner.
Alessia sighed as she placed a pot full of water on the stove to boil and began chopping an onion on the cutting board to make a decent sauce to go with the pasta.
Her day at work had been long too, not so bad that she had to spend the rest of the night on the couch, but tiring enough that she didn’t feel like cooking at all. Still, she put her energy into it and convinced herself that she’d be doing this if she were alone anyway. She had to eat dinner no matter who she lived with, and making dinner for one was the same as making dinner for two.
Jordan had been her boyfriend for the past two years. They met each other while Alessia was still studying, and he was just a year older. It was exciting for her to finally meet someone that wasn’t a student, and she was flattered by all the attention he gave her. No one had ever been interested in her that way, so whenever he took her out on a date her heart fluttered and she found herself falling for him.
Moving in together a few months ago had been an easy decision. Jordan always texted her to come over, sometimes very late at night. Alessia was tired of running around between both of their places, so she thought it’d be great for them to see each other more.
Now, as the tomato sauce simmered in the pan while the pasta cooked, she found herself missing her old studio and how peaceful it was. Putting two plates together only took her a few more minutes, and she set the rest of the table before calling Jordan over.
“Thanks babe,” He gave her lips a quick kiss before sitting down across from her, and Alessia let her smile grow back on her face.
“You’re welcome,” She got filled with a sense of pride for getting a thank you from him. Jordan wasn’t always very talkative, so anything he told her that was positive made her happy.
He always enjoyed the things she cooked, and it was satisfying to know she made something good. He was smiling and telling her about his day, talking about everything he did at work but also how draining it was. Alessia listened to it all, chiming in with a few words here and there when she knew they were needed. This was their routine, she prided herself in being a good listener, and Jordan often told her he felt better after talking to her.
“I’ve got a call to make, be right back,” He excused himself from the table once their plates were empty, disappearing on the small balcony their apartment had.
Alessia knew it might last a while, so she used that time to clean up. She tidied the kitchen and quickly hoovered the whole place to keep it spotless. The apartment was always organised, mostly because she didn’t like it when things were out of place and spent most of her time home keeping things clean.
When she was done, Jordan was still outside talking. She could hear him laugh from time to time, so she assumed he was talking to one of his friends. Alessia stretched her hands over her head and took a deep breath, relaxing her muscles with a satisfied little noise.
The bed was still perfectly made when she walked into the bedroom, and she took her pajamas folded under her pillow before heading to the bathroom. She was ready for a nice, relaxing shower. Some time to exfoliate her skin and bask in the soothing scent of her lavender shower gel was sure to help her relax before going to bed.
“Cute,” Jordan startled her by walking into the bathroom and grinning at the sight of her in her underwear.
He chuckled at her little jump and wrapped his arms around her from behind, pulling her against his chest.
“Thanks,” She whispered, glancing at her exfoliant on the side of the bathtub. She knew her plans of a relaxing shower would have to wait another day at least.
“Need you to help me relax,” Jordan kissed the side of her neck and nibbled at her skin, making her wince and squirm in his arms.
Alessia nodded silently and allowed him to push her forward to bend over the bathroom sink. She hid her face into her arm, and just like every night, she let him have his way with her even if she got nothing out of it.
pitch
Series Review (Season 1)
IMDb Summary: A young pitcher becomes the first woman to play in the Major Leagues.
Tumblr media
These days, whenever I see commercials on Fox for The Masked Singer or Alter Ego, I can’t help but think, “they keep these shows but they cancelled Pitch?!”
I miss this show so much :(
While some people scoff at the idea of a woman playing in any male professional sport (that’s right, I have seen those asshole comments under the YouTube trailer) I think the show did a pretty solid job in depicting a woman playing Major League Baseball in such a believable way  - she may not have had the physical strength, but she had that one special pitch - without it coming off as cheesy or patronizing.
My curiosity for the show was first piqued after having heard MPG on his Saved by the Bell podcast referring to Pitch as one of his most favorite projects that he’s ever done, several times expressing that he thought it was criminally cut short. Well, he wasn’t wrong. I cannot say enough good things about this show – it was so SO good  from the writing, the acting, the attention to all of the baseball-related detail – it just really sucked me in from the beginning and breaks my heart that it ended so soon.
Tumblr media
What I liked:
The writing and production value. Is this show a sports drama or a soap opera? At times, I wasn’t sure, but I think the writers did an excellent job of balancing both.  It was a believable peek into the inner workings of a Major League Baseball team, and a realistic glimpse into the lives of professional athletes – the challenges and pressure of being a rookie, contrasted by the jadedness of a veteran. The storylines were compelling and only got better as the series went on. That, along with the way that it was shot (the game footage was all shot utilizing the same cameras and angles used during real-life MLB games), the set design (the clubhouse was modeled after the real-life San Diego Padres clubhouse), and the fact that Fox had an exclusive deal with MLB to use their logos and facilities added to the authenticity of it all.
Tumblr media
Mark-Paul Gosselaar as Mike Lawson. Zack Morris may have been trash but Mike Lawson is fire!!! I was completely sold on his portrayal of the veteran baseball player and the range of emotions that someone in the twilight of their career must be feeling – he was egotistical and arrogant, a leader and a mentor, but also emotional and sad knowing his days on the field were numbered. I loved, loved LOVED MPG in this role – he convinced me that he deserves way more credit than for just being a child star -  he is a great (and definitely underrated) actor.
Kylie Bunbury as Ginny Baker. With regard to famous people, I always hear cliche stuff about famous people like: it’s not always as glamorous as it looks; there’s a lot more that goes on behind the scenes. The character of Ginny was the epitome of that. From the outside, she seemed to be a rock star, with tons of adoring fans excited at the prospect of the first female Major League Baseball player. But a sudden rise to fame isn’t without consequence (as was represented so well in Episode 6) – she did a great job of depicting the emotional and mental toll of essentially still being a famous kid, chasing the youth that you never had, while balancing the pressure of being in the spotlight and being expected to act like an adult and being mindful of maintaining a public image and being a role model.
Blip and Evelyn (Mo McRae and Meagan Holder). I loved their individual friendships with Ginny – he was one of her oldest friends, and she was her one closest girl friend – as well as how they treated her as part of their family. In the beginning I saw Evelyn’s character as being more of a Real Housewives of San Diego-type, but I was glad to see her evolve from being just a WAG into a more multi-dimensional and business-minded woman. Together, Blip and Evelyn seemed like #couplesgoals – I liked that while she was as supportive and loving as she could be for her husband, his career, and the kids, that it was also shown that it also takes a lot of sacrifice, understanding and flexibility being a wife of a top athlete.
Amelia (Ali Larter). I initially saw her character as mostly being self-serving and only being in it for Ginny’s fame, but as the episodes went on, I grew to like her more and more. With the revelations of Ginny’s mom being estranged, and Will becoming less and less trustworthy, she was like the big sister that Ginny didn’t have but desperately needed. It broke my heart at the end seeing Amelia leaving Ginny behind.
Al (Dan Lauria). He seemed like the grumpy old misogynist who can’t keep his mouth shut at first, but as the series went on, I liked seeing him becoming more and more of a father figure to Ginny – especially after realizing that he himself is a girl dad.
Cara the waitress (Lyndsy Fonseca). I was skeptical that she was going to take advantage of Ginny’s fame and the videos from the house party. But she ended up taking care of Ginny, making sure she got back home safely, and was genuinely concerned for her mental health. She was only in one episode, but I wouldn’t have minded her character coming back had the show continued. She was at heart a good person and I liked the idea of Ginny having one good friend outside of baseball.
What I didn’t like:
The series was short lived and was way too good to have only lasted one season. Given that the final episode ended with several cliffhangers, I was so sad that I will never find out what happens next. Are Blip and Evelyn really in marital trouble? Will Ginny ask Amelia to come back? Was Mike just using Ginny as a distraction from his ex-wife? Will Ginny ever play again? I can’t help but wonder, had the show been in a better timeslot (and not opposite Thursday Night Football) if it could have lasted just a little bit longer.
Other thoughts:
Will (BJ Britt). How did this guy go from being the one person she could trust the most to being the person she could trust the least? I hated how he almost took advantage of not only Blip and Evelyn, but of his own sister.
Charlie (Kevin Connolly). He was so easy to hate – he reminded me of people in high positions that they aren’t qualified for and where they don’t belong.
Mike and Ginny. Ugh, I’m torn because I love their mentor-mentee relationship, and I think it’s probably best to leave it that way because it would be too cliche for them to end up together… but it’s hard to ignore how much chemistry that they have. The tension in episode 9 was too good.
Tumblr media
The actors were a bunch of 90’s throwbacks for me. Jack Arnold from The Wonder Years, Eddie Winslow from Family Matters, Matteo Santos from All My Children, Frank Buffay from Friends, and not least of all, Zack Morris from Saved by the Bell.
Mike is very confused – and I guess so am I. Despite kind of wanting to root for him with Ginny, at the same time I definitely felt his pain with seeing his ex-wife move on. And while I get that Amelia was probably a rebound, I kind of really liked them together. I was kind of surprised he ended up breaking up with her just an episode later, then almost immediately went on to stalk his wife’s dinner party, then a few episodes later had a steamy near kiss with Ginny, and then just an episode later he ended up looking to hook up with his ex-wife again. Which is it, Mike?! Make up your mind!
Ryan Reacts to Kingdom Hearts 3
Okay, so this is a mix of live reactions and post-world reactions. Lot of live reactions in the beginning and end, more sporadic in between. You can probably guess what I’m reacting to most of the time from the sequence of events.
Mmm dat orchestral Don’t Think Twice Needed a minute on the menu. Finally seeing it say KH3 was A Lot. HOLY FUCK WHAT A COOL INTRO The speed is the same as 0.2, with that sprint that kicks in. Will take some getting used to. The stained glass looks gorgeous though Nice touch of KH1 Sora’s jump animation changing to KH2 Sora’s Making choices again like the original. Vitality is probably health, Wisdom is probably magic, and Balance is, well, balanced. I’ll go balanced. (I’m on Proud, btw) Guardian, Warrior, Mystic. Same as the weapons in KH1. In that case, I’ll make the same choice I do there: Guardian. SORA HAS AN IDLE ANIMATION OH MY GOD BLOCK AND DODGE FROM THE START! Also this sky place is new for a Dive to the Heart (AND THOSE HOOOORNS, LISTEN TO THEM) The water looks great A four-hit combo instead of the usual three? Huh Scan from the start too Nice detail of Sora’s head angling towards the locked on target All this music sounds SO GOOD I’MMA NEED THIS SOUNDTRACK ONCE I’M DONE Ahhh that little soft version of Sora’s theme WHAT THE FUCK IS THIS KINGDOM HEARTS II.9 SHIT These Instagram-style posts on loading screens are adorable Oh damn, we get a LOT of abilities from the start. And this is on Proud! Dodge Roll, Air Slide, Aerial Dodge (formerly a Master Form ability), plus all the Flowmotion stuff Wow, THREE shortcut menus! 12 total! Wow, and a LOT more control over how allies use items. That can be very useful! Sweet, synthesis materials are back! Water is an interesting new spell. And being able to reorder the Magic menu is nice (though I only use shortcuts). Kinda glad the item art has stayed the same. Also hey, Wellspring is from BBS. And first AP Boost of course goes into Sora, as will they all. WOW USING THOSE IS WAY FASTER NOW Yooo that Underworld music with the Titans’ appearance Take a shot every time someone says “Sora, Donald, Goofy” Sora, Donald, Goofy counter: 1 HERCULES HAS JOINED THE PARTY “Team Effort: Always start battles with a team attack command.” Damn, what are those that this ability is FIFTY AP?! (Are team attacks that move we saw Sora and Goofy do in a trailer? The throw?) I like that tutorials are playable at any time Also I was worried Save Points might not return with that auto save message at the start ALSO THIS IS NIGHT OF FATE PLAYING IN THE COMBAT TUTORIAL Ooh, Panacea art is nice. (Panacea has only appeared as a command in games like BBS and re:coded, so it hasn’t had art before) *reads Ability Ring* Damn, if 10 AP is a SMALL boost, I can’t imagine how expensive abilities are gonna get (well, Herc does have that one 50 AP ability) Ultima Weapon returns, looks like Synthesis recipes are based more on collector’s goals than finding them. Looks like there’s 60 synthesis materials, sounds about right. Ooh, synthesis item rarities, types: soothing and pulsing are from BBS, writhing, betwixt, sinister are new. Looks like everything goes in Shards, Stones, and Gems. Ooh that’s a lot of Heartless. Hey when is Jiminy gonna show up? Gonna need to complete that Journal again. Oooh battle music has bits of the old Coliseum battle music. Sora, Donald, Goofy counter: 2 Environmental fire damage followed by Sora’s butt on fire limiting my actions. Neat. Okay, these have been live reactions so far, but I’m gonna stop doing that because it’s slowing my progress. “What the heck is Rage Form?” “OH. OH THAT’S A THING.” I keep seeing hidden Mickeys, I bet those are gonna be a thing with the camera once I get it. Also damn are they giving me a lot of ingredients for the cooking minigame I can’t play yet. So the biggest thing I’ve noticed about the new combat is that because they give you so many really powerful abilities (grand magic at higher levels, formchanges, attractions, team attacks) that are all basically free (are you hitting things with your keyblade or magic? Can you hit this specific enemy once? Can you wait for your teammate to give you a prompt?), the number of enemies in each fight seems to have SIGNIFICANTLY increased from previous entries. KH2’s level design this is NOT. Lots more nooks and crannies to search. Me approaching the gates of Olympus: “Is this Anor Londo?” Yay nostalgic Coliseum music! And oooh little environmental puzzles are back! Like from KH1! I forged Goofy a new shield! Aaaand playable Riku. I have no idea why they were so dodgy about the second playable character. This is only the third time Riku’s been playable. Anyway, gotta fight the Demon Tower again. Damn, Riku is WAY stronger than Sora right now. Wish I could have read his abilities (and moved shortcuts). Nice emulation of the death screen. Also hot damn, is that Repliku talking??? I guess Riku’s “other me” really could be Repliku. Awwwww yeah, Lea’s getting new clothes too! YEAH JIMINY! “Dream Heartbinder” So Heartbinders must be this game’s summon gems, and this one lets me use Dream Eaters. SORA’S THEME IS THE RINGTONE!!! Ienzo’s here, with a bit of OrgXIII music from CoM. HOLY SHIT THE GUMMI SHIP IS THE BEST IT’S EVER BEEN UPGRADEABLE KEYBLADES?! I guess that makes sense, considering they all have different formchanges. They want all of them to stay viable throughout the game. OH MY GOD, DEMON TIDE HAS SO MUCH HEALTH I guess the bosses have to with all these powerful attacks I have Does Hayner have a new voice? Olette sounds different too. Checked the wiki, all three have different actors. Pence sounds closest to his original though. So judging by the Dusks and Snipers, no more enemy-specific reaction commands. The Ducklings sell Gummi blocks now?? Huh. Whoa wait, the road out of Twilight Town’s Tram Common leads back to the world map? Can I NOT go to the clock tower in this game?? Man, Twilight Town felt really small. Hope the remaining worlds don’t, though they’ve certainly seemed significantly larger than the two I’ve been to so far. Also, totally called the Lucky Emblems, though I’m gonna keep calling them hidden Mickeys. I think Tou Story is my favorite world. Granted, I’ve only been to three, but still. The Gigas are super fun, Woody and Buzz look amazing, and I can’t stop whistling/humming along! AHHH CREEPY DOLL Lol, the Verum Nox poster even has a Square Enix logo. First death, the Gigas battle in the video game. GOD DAMN! WOODY dropping an amazing “The Reason You Suck” speech to Xehanort! “Unless you’re in the ~real~ Organization too? Good for you!” Damn, Sora! Also love hearing that music from Chain of Memories every so often Glad flowmotion’s jump isn’t as level-breaking as it was in DDD. Same goes for the attacks. Wow, so Rapunzel permanently leaves the party. Was wondering they’d just give her a different moveset like with Mulan/“Ping”. This is the first time a character permanently leaves your party. And of course, Marluxia. Who I didn’t think could or would return. And Vexen who rejoined willingly, which is, man. Not something I’d have done. Both Norted of course. And was Saïx missing his scar? Maybe he’s just Isa now. I could tell it was Unversed, and Flood specifically, in that first Monstropolis cutscene just from the sound of them spawning. That’s how I know I’ve put a lot of hours into this series. Monstropolis feels the most linear so far. Arendelle’s ice labyrinth is awesome, the level design gives me some light Dark Souls vibes. I like how there’s zero explanation for Sora, Donald, and Goofy being able to breathe underwater in The Caribbean. And by that I mean I would have liked even just one line to explain it. The ship combat isn’t as good as AC3’s and AC4’s, but it’s still pretty good for a one-world mechanic! The ship is a LOT more responsive than the AC ones. And damn, is this world open. Okay, San Fransokyo is gonna be a pain to search for chests and Mickeys. PRESS TRIANGLE TO SORA IS THE BEST REACTION COMMAND I HAVE EVER SEEN Jiminy telling people about summaries on the gummiphone is Square Enix saying “IF YOU DIDN’T PLAY THE GAMES, READ THE FUCKING SUMMARIES” Giant battle at the start of Keyblade Graveyard was cool, but hurt the frames, especially on the fake shadows. And just as I was getting hyped at the possibility of having Riku and Aqua as party members. Oh hey, just realized Riku’s keyblade has a Mickey keychain now too. “And so, as legend foretold, darkness prevailed and light expired...” “Your hearts will be torn from your bodies” “To move through time, you must leave your body behind.” THE FINAL WORLD?! Wait, Sora’s been here MULTIPLE times?? Okay, so the star talking about the person who’d miss them, whose heart has been taken by another’s? Strelitzia? Talking about Lauriam? Love and hate? Going back for fight after fight? Hm. Cloud or Sephiroth maybe? (Longshot, but it doesn’t sound like a khux character, or anyone else) Identical pair? There’s no twins in this series. Like walking alongside a mirror... maybe it’s not an literal identical nature? Same clothes, same food, maybe Xion?? “Nothing left to teach you”? Damn, that’s not much to go on. Maybe Eraqus’ and Xehanort’s master?? “Just friends... stepped back” Skuld maybe? “I’m gone... they’ve added another member” Could that be Xion? Wait, no, how could Xion be here, she’s still within Sora’s heart. Are these actual named characters we’ve met before? Or not? The one who was defeated and supposed to fade... Repliku?? But he’s with Riku now... Someone searching for their Papa??? Most of the characters in this series don’t have parents at all, so my only guess here is Pinocchio?? No way a Disney character ends up here though. I don’t think all of these are characters we know. Someone holding onto a sliver of memory, and a servant?? Yeah, these could all just have been ordinary people. Naminé?! What happened to Kairi??? Okay, so the darkness split them. KAIRI IS KEEPING SORA FROM FADING AWAY OH MY HEART “GO TO HER” SHE SAYS "That's not the official thank-you!" Lol Damn, this area is fuckin huge, why is it so huge?? A PORTAL?! A DDD PORTAL HERE?! Well this place is rad. I better see that weird Darkside at some point here OOOOOHHHHHHHHHHH OH IT ROTATES THAT'S FUCKIN SICK God damn, this game's got some of the best level design of the series! Is... is this OUR Chirithy? “He doesn’t remember the past”? Although I guess it could be Marluxia/Luxord/Demyx’s too. Or Ven’s. My bet is that it’s Ven’s. DID SORA JUST TIME JUMP BACK A FEW MINUTES??? Aaaand did nothing different. So now we’re world-hopping like we did back in End of the World. OH WHAT IS THIS DIVING INTO STATIONS TO PICK A WORLD?!?! YOOOOOOOO Just Kairi and Lea are left. Haven’t hit San Fransokyo or Twilight Town yet. Guess they must be in those two. Last one is San Fransokyo. Lea must be here. Kairi’s probably gonna be the last. “Traversing hearts to reach worlds” That must be what I’ve been doing here. Not jumping between worlds, jumping between HEARTS. Was Sora just considering telling her he loves her? He should have. Wait, am I back in time? This already happened... OH SHIT! THE LINGERING WILL IS HERE! EPHEMER! OHHHHHHH HO HO WOW! OHHHHHH FUCK! YOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! Congrats to all the lucky people who got their names in the game! PRESS TRIANGLE TO UNION X GIANT SHADOW MASTER XEHANORT IS TERRIFYING I like how Axel is holding his keyblade by the guard instead of the handle OH SHIT MASTER YEN SID! YOOOOOO! Okay KH3, I want to fight thirteen bosses now, you hear me? DAMN that Ancient Light finisher on Starlight’s Second Form is STRONG YOOOOOOO THREE BOSSES AT ONCE??? (I really hope this is as tough as they were before, but seeing as Xemnas was harder in 1 than in 2, doubt it) Went to help Mickey first, so I’m taking on Marluxia, Luxord, and Larxene Oh come ooooon, I barely got to fight them! Luxord’s out, 12 to go OH SHIT THE OTHER TWO Larxene’s done, 11 to go. With XI conveniently up next. Marluxia’s defeated once again. 10 left. Hey whatever happened with that comment of their ancient keyblade legacy...? Xigbar... might be gone? So maybe 9 left. Dark Repliku is defeated, and light Repliku gave himself up so the Replica could be used for Namine. That’s sweet. 8 left. YO actual time of day change! I like the door switches. Nice having little environmental things like this. Hm, Kairi and Lea one way, Aqua and Ven the other. Well that’s no contest, gotta go back up my girl Kairi! Mysterious new hooded figure??? Oh. Oh no. I think it’s Xion. D: Yeah. It’s her. *Xion stops Xemnas “YEYEYEYEYEYEYEYEYEYYE YEEEEEAAAAAAHHHHH” *Roxas shows up “OOOOOOOOOOOHHHHHHHHHHHH FUCK” THE WHOLE GANG’S HERE YOOOOOOOOOOO Shout outs to Ienzo, Ansem, Vexen, and Demyx for helping Roxas return! WHY THE FUCK IS KAIRI GETTING KIDNAPPED A-FUCKING-GAIN, NOMURA WHY WAS SHE EVEN TRAINING, FUCK Okay, so Kairi and Lea/Axel are out, BUT ROXAS AND XION ARE IN OH HOLY SHIT, SORA SQUAD FORM UP!!!! I HAD TO STOP AND LISTEN TO THE MUSIC FOR A MINUTE It’s all three of their themes! (Plus a bit of Another Side) THIS IS THE HYPEST SHIT Aww, Saix’s death mirrors Xion’s. AND THE SEA-SALT TRIO REUNITE! Saix is out, 7 left. Xion turned, 6 left. Vanitas fades again, 5 left. I know some people had hoped for a heel-face turn, but I knew it wasn’t likely. WHAT TERRA’S HEART WAS IN ANSEM’S GUARDIAN THIS WHOLE TIME. THAT THEORY WAS RIGHT! Terra-nort’s back to just Terra. 4 left. Just wanna say, I love that it’s Sora who gets to turn the tides of all these fights. Who’s dull and ordinary NOW, huh?? AND he’s still going! Oh boy, time for a triple Xehanort fight! UMMM NINE KEYS (but why are they No Name and not the X-blade?) OOOOOOOHHHHHHH THIS BLEND OF ANSEM, XEMNAS, AND YOUNG XEHANORT'S THEMES Guardando Nel Buio, Darkness of the Unknown, and Impeto l’Oscurito 1V3 ME, I'LL TAKE YOU ALL ON Young Xehanort returns to his time. 3 left. I like how we all agree to pause the fight whenever someone falls. Xemnas fades. 2 left. Ansem as well. Just 1 darkness left. WHAT THE FUCK, KAIRI NOOOOOOOOOOOO AH SHIT HE’S GOT THE X-BLADE AH SHIT HE’S GOT KINGDOM HEARTS Oh hey, everyone’s caught up. Donald: “You can’t do anything without us, Sora.” Me: “Donald, shut the FUCK UP.” Xion: “Kairi will be alright.” Me: “OH THANK GOD” Scala ad Caelum. Stairway to Heaven. It looks like a proto-Land of Departure. But the music is Case of the Foretellers from X Back Cover. Could this place and Land of Departure once have been Daybreak Town? Damn, Dark Kingdom Hearts is over the ENTIRE Keyblade Graveyard now Spooky twelve figures are spooky Why do they have the Organization’s weapons?! I love this return of Destati though They all had a shared HP bar? Scala ad Caelum’s world icon is kinda shaped like a heart Oh wow, full Inception Weird hearing Rage Awakened without the Lingering Will here “There is one sky, one destiny!” “DEEEESTAAAATI!” Ohhhhh shit Shout out to the heart in the floor design though And the figure in the middle has 7 points Classic Xehanort pose from the KH2 secret ending Aaaaand now he’s got ANOTHER Kingdom Hearts! GREAT WHOA HE FORCED ME INTO RAGE FORM DESTATI IN FULL FORCE WHAT A RAD FINISHING BLOW! The canon death screen, the heartbeat, Donald and Goofy calling from my controller! ONE BIG BLAST! So Xehanort sees himself as some sort of white knight? A templar to guide the masses with an iron fist? Yeah, no dice dude. Sora’s right, not your choice to make, and destiny is beyond your control. So Eraqus really WAS with Terra all this time. MARK HAMILL IS BACK!!! Xehanort just hands it over, huh? Wow, closure between Eraqus and his apprentices after all these years Eraqus and Xehanort mimic Sora and Riku from KH2, and pass on. Go get her, Sora. HIKARI ORCHESTRAL Ven met his Chirithy! Lea’s finally wearing his new outfit. Aw, Xion looks good too! And Isa’s here! Naminé is back too! And I bet the Namine/Riku shippers are happy! AWWW They’re all hanging out at Destiny Islands! Look at them all being friends!!! THERE THEY ARE! WHAT THE FUCK WAS THAT
Epilogue: XIGBAR HAS BEEN LUXU THIS WHOLE TIME?! WHAT WHAAAAAAAAAAAT?! You know while watching Back Cover I was like “Man, the Master of Masters really talks like Xigbar for some reason.” BOY DOES THAT MAKE SENSE NOW So what was it about Ava’s role with the Dandelions that led to her absence here? AND WHAT’S IN THE GODDAMN BOX Is it a Book of Prophecies? Something else entirely? In any case, I doubt Maleficent and Pete would be able to get it away from them all. Secret Ending, “Yozora”: Ooh, “Another Side, Another Story” vibes right off the bat. SORA! And... Riku? Well this is just Japan. Wait, the guy from Verum Rex? And a black coat, who’s probably Xigbar/Luxu or the Master of Masters? After watching, a friend informed me that Riku is in Verum Rex. And Sora’s dead. Cause he’s in TWEWY’s version of Shibuya, since that one building said “104.” But which one is the black coat in? It could be the Master of Masters dead, in Sora’s world. Or Xigbar/Luxu, still watching things.
I have no idea what comes next. But I am excited.
A lot of these posters are pictured in either giant bubble letters, rep font or in calligraphy. Can’t do any of these? lovelovelove,
 - Reputation Costumes.
…READY FOR IT?:
1. “Knew he was a killer” – you and a friend or significant other dress up as a killer and their victim (not to scary or realistic though! Just have fun with it)
2. “Left haunted” – could make a fun sign saying “Taylor left me haunted” or something silly with the word haunted! Could even use Haunted (Speak Now) lyrics!
3. “But if he’s a ghost, then I can be a phantom” – Few ideas:
         → Two people could dress up as ghosts.
         → Could also dress up as Danny Phantom because of the wordplay, or even the Phantom of the Opera if you wanted to be clever.
         → Could also dress up as ghost hunters/ghost busters.
4. “Holdin’ him for ransom” – dress as bank robbers! Could even copy the outfits from the vault scene in LWYMMD.
5. “I keep him forever, like a vendetta-ta” – Poster that replaces him for Taylor, so it says I keep Taylor forever, like a vendetta-ta.
6. “Island breeze and lights down low” – maybe dress tropical—think family vacation ha.
         → Could even improvise a poster that instead of saying island it could say (city name) breeze and stadium lights down low. Ex: “Boston breeze and stadium lights down low” (yes, I know its FOXBORO, but we all know Taylor just calls it Boston lol).
7. “In the middle of the night” – Dress as if you’re the night sky, glow in the dark ceiling stars or tape on a black/navy blue outfit with glitter. A matching poster in the shape of a star or a moon would be the perfect pairing.
8. “Are you ready for it?” – Poster with these lyrics on it. Remember posters can be as simple or as creative as you’d like. If you have a large enough group, you could make giant cutouts and hold two letters or so each.
9. “Stealing hearts and running off..” – A poster in the shape of a heart (not anatomical) with the lyrics on it.
10. “He can be my jailer” – Cop and Robber costume, could do the orange jumpsuit from the LWYMMD video and copy the “guards” around the birdcages outfits.
11. “Burton to this Taylor” – dress as Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor
12. “Let the games begin” – Multiple options for this one.
          →   Could dress as a referee/sport player/some sort of sport reference
          →   Have a game board attached to your outfit, make your own Taylor inspired game, maybe by gluing homemade items over a monopoly and have little trivia questions about her.
          →   Game board inspired poster—an Uno card but with these lyrics rather than traditional uno face.
13. Recreate one of the outfits from the music video
END GAME:
1. “I wanna be your endgame” – Poster designed as your favorite/or classic “end game” credit logo.
2. “I wanna be your first string” – Sometimes related to sports or your favorite ship from a TV show/Film/Book so do what you may with this.
3. “I wanna be your A-Team” – Could dress up as the A Team. Poster with friends that spell out A-Team.
4.  “Big Reputation” – Poster with these lyrics or wear the End Game merch sold on Taylor’s site. Can’t afford it? Make your own with stencils and fabric paint!
5.  “I bury hatchets, but I keep maps of where I put ‘em” – Make/buy a shirt with a map on it—think buried treasure map with x’s to mark where stuff is hidden!
6. “Your body is gold” – Gold morph suit, gold body paint, gold glitter, gold anything! Dawn yourself in all gold for this look.
7.  “So here’s the truth from my red lips” – Make an outfit with red lips open with a speech bubble above it and have end game lyrics in each one! Or make a poster with the same idea.
8.  Recreate one of the many music video outfits!
I DID SOMETHING BAD:
1. “I play ‘em like a violin” – Make a poster cut out into the same of a violin and wear music notes.
2. ‘Now all he thinks about is me” – Poster saying “Now all I think about is Taylor”
3. “I can feel the flames on my skin” – Body paint flames in your arms/legs or wear flame pattern shirt.
4. “Crimson red paint on my lips” – Could be similar to the one above from End Game with red lips all over your outfit or a poster.
5. “If a man talk shit, then I owe him nothing” – Great lyric for a poster! Don’t want to put the swear on the poster? Get creative and maybe use the emoji covering its mouth or symbols!
6.  “I never trust a playboy, but they love me” – Going with a guy friend? Could have him dress like Hugh Hefner but of course remember the necessary clothing needed to get into a venue if you do this! Could also dress as a bunny (playboy related or just average you decide)
7. “So I fly ‘em all around the world” – Going to multiple shows? Make a poster of a globe with airplanes landing on each tour stop you’re going to!
8. “They’re burning all the witches even if you aren’t one” – Dress as a witch, could be inspired from the Salem witch trials, could be a cartoon-y Halloween one, or one from your favorite show or movie that involves witches!
9. “Pitchforks and proof, their receipts and reasons” – Poster in the shape of a pitchfork or one that looks like a store receipt or screenshotted iMessage but using Taylor lyrics as the messages or purchases!
10. “Light me up” – Most shows apparently will not allow lights but doesn’t mean you can’t light up with glow sticks, glow in the dark body paint/outfits or glitter!
11. “Most fun I ever had” – Poster saying “Taylor Concerts are the most fun I ever had!”
DON’T BLAME ME:
1. “Don’t blame me, love made me crazy” – Poster that says, “Don’t blame me, Taylor made me crazy.”
2. “Darkest little paradise” – Black lace vibe from this lyric, especially picturing those pumps that have fur on the front near the toes. Could also make a sign that’s a midnight black sky with glow in the dark stars writing out the lyric.
3. “They say, ‘She’s gone too far this time’” – Poster with this lyric and a map tracking all your shows if you’re going to multiple. Could have all the miles listed under each show!
4. “Halo, hiding my obsession” – Angel outfit? Make the halo out of glow sticks so it shines after the lights go down. Poster that says hiding my obsession, maybe make it look like a TSL post.
5. “I once was poison ivy, but now I’m your daisy” – Few ideas for this:
           →   An outfit that starts as poison ivy on the bottom but slowly progress to daisies. Could have buds of daisies starting at the bottom with the ivy and start to have them bloom as it increases until it’s just all daisies.
          →   Poster that spells out poison ivy in plastic (or real or drawn completely up to you) poison ivy.
          →   Poster that spells out Daisy with Daisies from a craft store!
          →   Daisy Buchanan from Gatsby.
          →   Poison Ivy comic.
6. “Fall from grace” – Michael and Lucifer, so aka could go as a fallen angel or the devil. If you watch Supernatural then you can pull from that for inspiration!
7. Taylor related this song to church, love and drug use because those 3 are powerful enough to change a person. Dressing up as if you’re in a choir could fit this song! Even something church related, however trying to remain neutral with that can be difficult.
8. Some people get a Fifty Shades of Grey vibe from this song, do what you may with that.
DELICATE:
1. Poster spelling out delicate with an assortment of colorful fake flowers.
2. “You can make me a drink” – Poster cut out in the shape of a wine glass with the lyrics being written in a bold, thick font and place to look as if from far away its wine drawn in the glass.
3. “Dive bar on the East Side, where you at?” – “Taylor Swift concert in (your state), where you at?” sign. Could also make this look like an iMessage chat.
4. Fringe outfit similar to the video.
5. Dive bar outfit.
6. “Dark jeans and your Nikes” – Could easily where this exact outfit paired with a Taylor shirt if you aren’t into dressing up for shows!
7. “Never seen that color blue” – Poster with sketched blue eyes and these lyrics underneath it. Could also wear an entire blue outfit.
8. “Is it chill that you’re in my head?” – poster ideas:
          →  Is it chill that Taylor’s in my head?
          →  Is it chill that you’re in my head, Taylor?
9. “Handsome, you’re a mansion with a view.” - Dress up with a costume similar in the idea of the a skyscraper costume but as a fancy house!
10. “Echoes of your footsteps on the stairs” - Poster with an echoing effect (think Microsoft early 2000s word art) on the lyrics. Could even place the lyrics on top of one another to look like it’s building a staircase.
LOOK WHAT YOU MADE ME DO:
1. “I don’t like your little games” – See similar ideas for game inspired outfits above, OR
          →  Make an outfit featuring miniature games attached to you, like Tamagotchi’s or make your own mini monopoly/life/etc. boards and glue them onto your outfit or poster. Possibly break the little boards in half and have broken pieces to represent not liking them.
2. “Of the fool” – Could dress up as a fool/clown. Silly, whimsical costume.
3. “Said the gun was mine” – Could do a poster of a smoking gun with the lyrics looking like they came out of the gun/the toy guns where flags pop out.
4. “Rose up from the dead” – Zombie! Tombstone poster!
5. “I’ve got a list of names and yours is in red, underlined” – List of names—Taylor related, maybe her cats or not—but have them all crossed out besides for Taylors at the bottom.
6. “I check it once, then I check it twice” – Some say this reminds them of Santa so by all means feel free to dress up Christmas-y.
7. “Look what you made me do” – Use the lyric video to create cool posters.
8. “I don’t like your kingdom keys” – few ideas:
        → Outfit with keys drawn on, make them look vintage and old, wear crowns with this look! Could also have keys dangling off the ends of the outfit.
       →  Giant gold key posters, make them look novelty like the ones cities give to honor people.
9. Drama and Karma matching glitter posters.
10. Snake skin, snake rings, snake anything!
11. Choose one of the many outfits Taylor is seen wearing throughout the LWYMMD video, we’ll hopefully have some great, cheap knockoffs for these soon!
12. Dress up as “old Taylor” so this basically opens up endless possibilities from each era, check out our 1989 and Red costume lists for more ideas! Hopefully we can work on Speak Now, Fearless and Debut inspired lists soon too!
13. Merch! Merch! Merch! She has tons of Look merch on her site, wear that if you want to be casual.
14. Similar Blind for Love sweater is available on eBay! The similar patches are also sold at craft stores or online (eBay).
15. Use the patches sold through Taylor Swift’s store to make you’re own one of a kind outfit--whether it be a denim jacket, dress, you name it! You can even design you’re own patches using crafts.
16. “The old Taylor can’t come to the phone right now” - Poster using a picture of the “old Taylor” and a poster in the shape of a phone! Could incorporate the Our Song video, WANEGBT video, or the Look video when she’s on a phone.
SO IT GOES…
1.  “See you in the dark” – Poster where the word Dark is written in glow in the dark paint/marker to show up after the lights go down!
2. “All eyes on you” – Outfit with googly eyes glued all over it. Or create a poster with the same idea and the lyrics changed to “All eyes on Taylor”
        →  Add “my magician” if you wish to the end of the poster lyric or combine the googly eyes theme with a magician costume.
3. “My magician” –  Multiple options:
       → Dress up in a magician’s costume, this can be traditional, or you can be as creative as you want with it.
       →  Poster cut out to look like you’re holding a fan of cards (think trick magician’s deck) with any lyrics from the song written on it.
       →  Could dress up as a magician’s assistant.
       →  Dress up as a rabbit/bunny (stereotypically used in acts)
       →  Poster in the shape of a bunny peeking out of a magician’s hat, or just the ears sticking out of the hat, with so it goes lyrics on it.
       →  Poster of a crystal ball with “all eyes on you, my magician” written in it.
4. “You make everyone disappear” – “Taylor makes everyone disappear” written on a poster. Possibly write it in glow in the dark ink so it only shows when the lights are down and not before!
5. “Cut me into pieces” – Puzzle piece posters! You and a group of friends can each hold a piece that fits into the other and each can have one word of a line from any reputation song or simply use the “cut me into pieces”
6. “Gold cage, hostage to my feelings” – 2 options:
       →  Make a cut out poster in the shape of a cage, individual cut out in between each bar so it’s open, do two sides like this and attach strings to wear the sign so it looks like the cage is around you. Could even wear this with the orange jumpsuit outfit from the Look video!
      →  Poster in the shape of a gold bird cage with “hostage to my feelings” written inside of it.
7. “All our pieces fall right into place” – Poster with confetti, puzzle pieces, hearts either drawn on or glued. Either place or draw the pieces to spell out the lyrics as they fall down to a pile at the bottom of the poster paper or just have the pieces you decide to use “raining” down halfway through the poster and have the lyrics on the bottom half.
8. “So it goes…” Poster with these lyrics.
9. “Met you in a bar” – 2 options:
          →  Poster drawn and cut out like a whiskey bottle with these lyrics, Taylor and reputation written on the label.
          →  Using half of a poster board, draw what looks like a bar top (typically mahogany) with bottles either laying or standing across it and a few shot glasses, each bottle could be named after a song on the album!
10. “All eyes on us/All eyes on you/All eyes on me” -  Staring eye emoji drawn on a poster with a thought bubble above it with one of these 3 lyrics in the bubble.
11. “I make all your grey days clear” –
          →  One person dresses up as a cloudy/rainy day so all grey clothes and have reflective blue tape cut into rain drops and white reflective tape to represent clouds (typically clouds are grey/black when it’s raining but those two colors won’t be reflective, could use glow in the dark paint/tape as well). Could also wear a cloud poster with raindrops hanging from it on string around them or hold as a regular poster with these lyrics in the cloud.
          →  Second person dresses up as sunny day, in preferably light blue to represent a clear sky, yellow reflective tape cut out as suns on the outfit—could even have some breaking through clouds using white reflective tape. Person could also wear a sun poster around them like suggested above for the grey day look.
12.  “Wear you like a necklace” – Think flavor flav! Make a giant fake watch (or not a watch and just a necklace) out of string and cardboard. Have the reputation album cover or cd artwork be hanging from it/as the face of the watch.
13.  “Dressed in black now” – Wear all black! Draw attention to yourself with some glow in the dark paint or stickers, glow sticks and glitter.
14. “Scratches down your back” – Might not be appropriate with what its referencing for younger crowds and you may get looks from parents but create a shirt with bloody scratches down the backside and let the front side have “so it goes…” written on it.
15.  “You did a number on me” – Few options:
           →  Poster cut out into a 13/22/1989 with the lyric written throughout the 13/22/1989.
            →  Poster with an array of numbers related to Taylor filling it (13, 22, 1989, 10(Grammys), etc.). Write the lyrics in rep font first and draw the numbers around it, filling the background. Write in glow in the dark paint/tape, glue flowers over the lyrics, whatever you desire! Can even just use the word rep instead of doing the lyrics.
           →  Idea above for the poster could also work on a shirt.
           →  Poster with the number of shows you’re attending.
16.  “Who’s counting?” – See the ideas for the lyric above, they work well with this one as well.
1. Three teams you like
Juventus, AS Cannes (and Valenciennes FC) and Liverpool
2. Three teams you do not like
Inter, R Madrid and Nice
3. A team you can’t tolerate and you do not even know why
idk… I usually have a rugh idea why I don’t like a team of football especially if it’s at a “can’t tolerate” level. So no idea.
4. A team that surprised you in recent years (negative way or positive way)
Actually the Spurs. I’ve never followed them apart from reading results or other relevent articles. They’ve progressed and have a strong team. There’s also Liverpool who has come back being a serious contender for titles, Klopp’s has done wonders.
6. The thing you dislike the most about your club or NT
For both Italy and France it’s the lack of patience of the fans (and I know I can lack some at times). For France NT it’s especially that kind of French mentality that I’ve seen countless times : if we win, we’re the best, we’d known all along we would win but the minute they lose everyone’s like “Of course, french in sports are always so inconsistant, overpaid brats, smh, I knew we’d lose.” and stuff like that and it drives me mad.
For Juve, it’s that lately, there’s this big clash with the spirit of the club and a huge “marketing ideal” for lack of better term : the new logo, billion years away from the historical one, the huge rise in seats prices and a disdain for the ultras who pretty much are the only one who sings at the stadium and it just look like a big enterprise being run for maximum profit forgetting parts of what is essentials to the club in the process.
8. The one time football made you so happy you couldn’t stop smiling for days
The first time was Italy NT’s win in 2006. I felt invicible at 10 years old. I had spent a whole month being teased at, Italy being insulted at recess, some kids not speaking to me because I was the only one supporting Italy and being shamelessly vocal about it. I spent all that journey on my own, even my parents thought it weird and I was devastated french TV wouldn’t show all the games of Italy NT or when my parents didn’t let me watch because I had school in the morrow. I was also very sad because I was being transferred in another school when I knew nobody and I’d lose all my friends because the school was in the neighbouring city. I learnt that the day before Italy - Germany and gosh, I cried and I cried again at the late goals of Grosso and Del Piero. It helped lessen my dramatic 10 year old self. And then the final, when Italy won I was so happy. I had to hid the remote control so my parents wouldn’t turn off the TV because they didn’t understand the point of watching since France had lost but I argued. I couldn’t tear my eyes of all my heroes lifting that golden cup and the next day when I faced everyone at school that had told me Italy was shit and would never win all month long. Biggest smile on my face. Three days later my mom took me to the sports shop and bought me the 4 stars jersey and I still have it today.
The second was when Cannes, while in 4th division, beat Saint-Etienne right for my birthday in the round of 32 of the Coupe de France. It was super cold and it went all the way to the penalties and we won and it was the first time I saw the stadium full, completely full with about 12000 people. It was magical. At the end there was a pitch invasion and players celebrated with fans it was amazing. We went to win against Plabennec and then against Montpellier, another Ligue 1 club ! We went up until the quarter finals but ultimately lost to Guingamp. But that feeling was… Amazing.
9. The one time football made you so sad you cried for days.
First there was Cannes getting sent to 7th division. I thought it was so unfair since the owners had done fuck all while the team gave their max. There was Alex leaving Juve the way it happened. And more recently it was Italy not qualifying for the World Cup and Gigi leaving Juve. Gosh that one was a hard blow I spent the whole week crying from his press conference to the game and after.
11. Five players you really admire purely based on football
Giorgio Chiellini (what ??)
Paolo Maldini
Thierry Henry
Eden Hazard (saw him twice when he was in Lille and it was already a recital)
Iker Casillas
13. Five most underrated players in your opinion
So many qzesrdtfygu ! Any GKs and Defenders go there. For having many OM fans in my acquatainces and being up to date with their club as a result, I’d say Hiroki Sakai is really underrated. Unpopular opinion but Pippo Inzaghi was constantly underrated for saying his goals are easy and he’s lucky and he doesn’t know how to play. I said what I said. Danijel Subasic, my good peeps and that’s the truth. Hm Olivier Giroud and Hugo Lloris ???? ANYONE ???? (that counts as a two for one package). And as a very great and Scouse philosopher once said : “Gary Neville is the most underrated player”
14. Five most overrated players in your opinion
Ronald, Titbot, Rami (and even more since the world cup win), Ratmos, Müller (sorry Garance)
15. Name 3 most despicable figures in football in your opinion (coaches, players, owners, companies, anyone…)
UEFA and FIFA tbh.
16. What makes your favorite coach better than other coaches?
He screams like a metal rock star ! And he’s super intense :
Tumblr media
Also because he’s done a tremendous work winning 4 Coppa Italia, 4 Scudetti, getting to two UCL finals and keep the team hungry for more !
22. Favorite Left Back today
Me of course aqzesrdtfqzesrdtfyghj ! Ugh today ? I’d go with De Sciglio (he’s polyvalent)
28. Your dream eleven
Buffon, Maldini, Chiellini, Scirea, Gattuso, Pirlo, Giggs, Beckham, Del Piero, Inzaghi, Vieri
35. Favorite tactical formation
4-3-3 or 3-5-2. Although my first love in managing games was the 4-1-2-1-2. Or as I like to call it : 4-4-2 losange !
39. A moment in football that changed you as a person. (e.g injuries, trophies, or transfers)
It’s honestly quite a rollercoaster when you’re ten years old to see your heroes win the world cup and then learn a week later that your favourite team is going to Serie B. I didn’t understand. That was the first time I really read all articles and papers I could find on the matter, even going to the public library to look at the ones I couldn’t buy and try and read everything to understand.
There was also Riccardo Montolivo’s injury just before the 2014 World Cup and Laurent Koscielny’s injury before the 2018 World Cup. I saw both happening in front of my very eyes and I felt awful, I almost wanted to cry. Injuries at such a time are, truly, the worst thing. And Montolivo wasn’t left alone by injuries afterwards and it breaks my heart.
Also, that 2005 ucl final like. The d r a m a (tm)
41. A player you are ashamed of loving
No shame, no regrets, just love !
43. Your achilles’ heel. The player who is your weakness.
Gigi Buffon (and Pippo Inzaghi)
44. Which team did you support the last time two teams you hated played against each other?
None, I wished for a draw aqzesrdtfygu
55. Three players from past generations you wish you had seen
Gaetano Scirea, Giampiero Boniperti and George Best (and Lev Yashin)
58. Most undeserving winners you can think of
Portugal at Euro 2016. They had the crappiest run and yet…..
67. A rival player you wish had joined your team
MON-TO-LI-VO, Icare about nothing ! Otherwise, although he’s a milanista through and through, would have love Gattuso at Juve, see how it would have been.
68. The time you really thought about leaving football
I never wanted to left but I had breaks. It especially coincided when I was playing football myself and the club’s environement was shit. I received insults just because I was 100% at training and dared tackle the ball away from the starlette diva of the team and the coaches didn’t bat an eye. Spent a whole year like this before I had enough and changed club.
70.The best transfer decision your club made
Just saying but buying Andrea Barzagli from Wolfsburg for 300k was like. Genius.
84. A player you wish you could’ve known in real life because you really think you guys could’ve been best friends.
I’d go with Andrea Pirlo, my good bitch I love dearly
85. A player who you want as your partner (lover, boyfriend, husband)
Pippo Inzaghi or Alessandro Del Piero.
87. Five players who others find attractive but you just don’t see it
Max Allegri for Beatrice Icardi, Luka Modric, Griezmann,
88. A player you think you totally would have had a crush on if you were born in another generation
Probably George Best and Paolo Rossi
91. A player who you think has the worst sense when it comes to fashion
Pretty much all players who lived the 90′s and early 2000s. But like… Gigi Buffon always delivered….. looks™ lmao
93. Top 5 bromances that you swear by.
Giorgio Chiellini and Leonardo Bonucci bitch !
Pippo Inzaghi and Bobo Vieri
Dejan Lovren and Mo Salah
Rino Gattuso and the Dickheads™
France 98 is a whole bromance by itself
99. The 5 most attractive players in your club and NT
Juve : De Sciglio, Matuidi, Bernardeschi, Dybala and Chiellini
France NT : Samuel Umtiti, Raphaël Varane, Blaise Matuidi, Benjamin Pavard and Nabil Fekir
Italy NT : Salvatore Sirigu, Ciro Immobile, Mattia De Sciglio, Federico Bernardeschi and Giorgio Chiellini
Thanks !
Ten Winners and Losers of DC Rebirth:
DC has dropped the Rebirth logo out of their titles. That is usually the sing they consider that the transition period for their books is over. They have built their status quo and what they have built during it is the new DC Universe. While I doubt fans will stop calling DC books Rebirth titles from now on (same as they didn’t stop using New 52 name long after DC dropped it from the covers), I want to look at what they managed to fix and bring to new fresh in this period, this last 1,5 year and also on what has failed. What were the winners and losers of DC Rebirth. Enjoy:
Winner: Superman Family
Tumblr media
Out of all lines, I don’t think any has made as much of an improvement as Superman’s. While there were good stories in New 52 Era, that time’s take on Superman has been generally seen with negative reception. Bringing back married Superman and Lois AND their son Jon has been a brilliant move, that quickly launched both Superman and Action Comics to some of the most popular in the era. The emphasis on Superman as a father made him more relatable to growing audience, several well-written Lois moments helped remind people why she is a belowed character and Jon quickly gained love of older fans and kids alike. That success was then quickly capitalized on with Super Sons, giving the spotlight to Jon and his new friend, Damian Wayne. The return of classic Superman villains like Eradicator, Metallo, Doomsday, Hank Henshaw, Mr. Mxyztplk, Manchester Black and General Zod with a new, interesting antagonist in Mr. Oz, helped make it an era that will certainly be remembered.
Adding to it three new books - Superwoman, Supergirl and New Super-Man only cements the lines’ status as probably the best quality-wise of the entire Rebirth. While Superwoman was sadly the shortest-living of them all, it still left us with Traci Thirteen and Natasha Irons as a couple, a move fans approved so much we now hope for Traci’s sexuality to be addressed in her upcoming show and Young Justice Season 3. Meanwhile, new take on Supergirl, taking clues from the show, but making Kara a high-schooler with adopted parents, has been well-regarded by the fans and New Super-Man became a minor fan-favorite, to the point DC took back the decision to cancel the series and let it continue as New Super-Man & the Justice League of China.
Loser: Blue Beetle
Tumblr media
Poor Jaime. One of the few characters that Rebirth set to fix after New 52 made him into a hot mess. The premise was solid - Jaime getting a mentor in form of previous Blue Beetle, Ted Kord, written by Keith Giffen, who shaped Ted into a comedic character and helped launch Jaime’s 2006 book. It had the potential for success. But the creative team (which J.M.DeMatteis joining in the middle) clearly didn’t believe in it and tried to launch a stealth team book they should have pitched in the first place. This resulted in a chaotic story that has lead to Blue Beetle’s cancellation and many plotlines left unresolved.
Winner: Damian Wayne
Tumblr media
Rebirth was a good time to be Damian fan. Between his appearances in not one but two books, leading new Teen Titans and forming great friendship with Jonathan Kent as well as having a handful guest issues, be it in Nightwing or Superman or Batman, Damian has received a tremendous push. While the quality of some of these titles remains debatable among the fans and some are unhappy with him not being pushed as Batman’s partner, it is undeniable they have a lot of fresh Damian content to choose from.
Loser: Tim Drake
Tumblr media
By contrast with Damian, Tim Drake has spent most of the Rebirth imprisoned by Mr. Oz and presumed dead. While his spirit was hanging over his friends in Detective Comics and his perceived loss affected them greatly, he himself was almost not present at all, really having a chance to shine only in two stories, Rise of the Batmen and A Lonely Place Of Living. In a way it feels as if James Tynion IV even knew he likes Tim too much and moved him away to give everyone else the spotlight - spotlight they undeniably needed, may I add.
Winner: Batman
Tumblr media
It’s bizarre for me to even put him on this list. Batman is the golden child of DC, the fortunate son, the star, the fan-favorite. He always gets best writers, the spotlight, the books, the guest appearances. And yet, DC Rebirth did something unbelievable, something I would never bet to see with Batman. They let him be weak. When over the years Batman has amassed reputation that earned him nicknames and memes like “Prep Time”, “BatWank” or “Batgod” over how perfect, always right and invincible he became, in Rebirth this feels toned down.
Batman in Rebirth was allowed to have flaws and vulnerabilities. His moments of super-competence are now contrasted with his emotional vulnerability. Batman was allowed to be a father who needs his children maybe even more than they need him, he was allowed to take serious beatings from Bane and Reverse Flash, to grieve after Tim, to seek happiness in marriage with Selina, to see his fears and regrets exposed in monstrous forms of Seven Dark Knights. All these things like tiny woodpeckers chipped little bits away from the image of BatGod and brought back Bruce Wayne, Batman the human. And boy did he needed to come back and remind people why this character is popular, to begin with. I mean, if even my bitter and cold heart started feeling a bit more sympathy for the guy whom last few decades made me despise, you know DC is doing something right.
Loser: Raven
Tumblr media
One of the biggest mistakes of DC Rebirth was Marv Wolfman’s Raven book. Not the book itself, but the fact it was only a miniseries. Being limited to only six-issue format have visibly constrained the potential the story had and forced the writer to rush things. The fact that in January DC launches new Raven book only makes it that much more infuriating. DC had little faith in the character and while I’m grateful they were willing to try at all and they clearly are testing waters for her potential ongoing, I wish we could see how things would turn out, had she been given one in the first place. Or at least a twelve-issue miniseries, I’d rather have that than 12 issues of Chuck Dixon slamming his head against the wall in Bane: Conquest.
Winner: Green Lanterns
Tumblr media
That was the book I doubt that many people believed in. Two relatively new members of Green Lanterns being given their title that early and made to work together. A book written by Sam Humphries, who didn’t gain that much of a good reputation for his works at Marvel. And yet...it worked. The series earned peoples’ love with an honest approach to subjects like anxiety disorder and extremely relatable portrayal of main characters. Jessica Cruz, in particular, seems to have grown into a fan-favorite to the point she’s going to be Green Lantern in DC Superhero Girls Universe and may even find a way into DC Comics Bombshells. This book opened a path of bright future to both Jessica and Simon, seeing how it still steadily continued as a bi-weekly series when other books with seemingly more famous character have been reduced to a monthly series. It opened Sam Humphries a way to his dream work at Nightwing. It thinks out of all Rebirth books this one might be one of the biggest breakout hits.
Loser: Gotham Academy
Tumblr media
It feels cruel to put Gotham Academy in that category. The creative team truly gave their all to this title. But sadly, the second book they got managed only last for twelve issues, enough to wrap the dangling plot threads. While other DC books benefitted from a new beginning, this one seems to have suffered what restarts did to Marvel books - diminished sales. But I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again - the combined amount of issues Gotham Academy had is an impressive number of 38. Let the fans never allow anyone tell them this title failed. I need to also praise DC for the amount of faith they’ve put into this series and how hard they tried to make it take off and become popular. This effort is worthy of respect. And something that I’d never been expecting from Marvel, so kudos for trying to do better.
Winner: New 52 Wally West
Tumblr media
When Old Wally West from before Flashpoint came back, many people feared this means his New 52 counterpart, now revealed to be a cousin with the same name, will drop into comic book limbo and never be mentioned again. Thankfully DC had a better idea - they kept both of them around. And through a string of writers who wanted to use him, Young Wally has not only been prominently featured as a supporting character in Flash but also joined Teen Titans, had appearances in his cousin’s book Titans and even managed to become a cast member in Deathstroke’s series. While I have complained his life probably sucks with an amount of bad stuff happening, he did leave his mark on larger DC Universe, had a chance to win fans’ love and established relationships with other characters. Hell, he even managed to send Raven’s heart...racing.
I’m sorry, no more puns, I swear, don’t hurt me!
Loser: Conner Kent and Bart Allen
Tumblr media
Another case where it feels outright cruel to call them losers. Both of them were erased with the reboot and replaced with versions that can be respectively called a hot mess and an outright identity theft (no, seriously, New 52 Bart turned out to be some asshole using his name). Since Rebirth launched the books started to tease fans with their returns. First, it was who might be in Mr. Oz prison next to Tim Drake’s in Detective Comics. Then the very clear erasure of Conner from Superman’s memories of Reign of Supermen, with Clark noting something is missing on the same page. Then Batman of Tomorrow bringing up Conner and finding out present Tim doesn’t remember him. The Murder Machine telling Barry there was a Bart in his reality. James Tynion IV and Joshua Williamson being very clear they want them back. And of course that Geoff Johns himself seems to want pre-flashpoint Conner back. And now the upcoming appearance of their evil future selves, Titans of Tomorrow in Super Sons of Tomorrow crossover. On the one hand, it appears DC wants to play a long game with setting up their return. On the other, many fans are probably having enough of constantly being shown a carrot on the stick and I hope DC will manage to bring those two back before fandom’s patience runs out.
Winner: Christopher Priest
Tumblr media
If you read his essay The New Black Mambo, you will know that Christopher Priest has a complicated history with Big 2. After his successful, character-defining, run on Black Panther, he started to feel the publishers are seeing him as “black guy to write black people” and he felt they’re denying him their A-List characters and jerking him around whenever he tries to pitch a non-black book (he tried to launch an all-female Avengers series almost a decade before A-Force, for example). He also felt his books that do feature black and other poc protagonists are thrown to the assholes on the Internet, even back then ready to declare them a “black propaganda” and other bullshit, which killed his project the Crew before the first issue was even out. This had led him to reject offers on DC and Marvel books for nine years.
Thankfully, during Rebirth DC was pulling its collective head out of its collective ass so well, they finally noticed why he keeps saying no and pitched him a different character - Deathstroke. On that book, Priest not only managed to rebuild mythos destroyed by New 52, but also built around Slade a diverse cast of complex, multi-layered characters and showed exactly how much of an awful, destructive person somebody like him would be. This opened him the door to Justice League, which he is currently writing, glad he can finally get his hands on all those characters he was always denied.
Loser: Cyborg
Tumblr media
The news on Christopher Priest taking over Justice League was quickly followed by reveal he will make Cyborg the new leader of the team. This sadly quickly became ironic, as DC announced the cancellation of Victor’s own series. Cyborg was another one of those characters DC tried to push even before Rebirth, during DC You, but to no success. Cyborg still retains his role in Justice League so his fans can see him there, but it’s a shame Rebirth didn’t manage to save his book.
Winner: Stjepan Sejic
Tumblr media
Stjepan Sejic has become fairly popular on the Internet and in indie in the last few years. Yet, despite years of outstanding work and even solid portfolio of Image Comics books he worked on, he never managed to land a work for the Big 2 outside few covers for Marvel. In Rebirth DC has changed that by giving him not only an arc on Aquaman but bi-weekly Suicide Squad series as well. Hopefully, this will finally give him the spotlight and help land more prestigious jobs in the future, both of which he certainly deserves.
Loser: Frank Cho and Jonboy Meyers
Tumblr media
Not all artists managed to capitalize on the success of Rebirth and made their own. Incredible talented Jonboy Meyers was on his way to make his art become the face of new Teen Titans, with his animesque style and modernized designs of the team members gaining a lot of attention. Yet he fell off the project due to “creative differences” after just a few issues. While creators leaving DC books and cursing the editorial was a common occurrence in New 52, it didn’t follow his departure. What’s more he also quickly had the same thing happen to his job at Marvel’s series Royals. I have not been privy to what were his reasons, but I just hope it wasn’t any serious health issues, as he gives an impression of a man too nice to lose two jobs due to acting like a primadonna, unlike some creators in the past.
Frank Cho, on the other hand, DID lose his Rebirth gig due to acting like a primadonna. Being put on variant covers for the first 24 issues of Wonder Woman, he has quit after just six, because Greg Rucka asked him to remove a pantyshot - a reasonable request especially during the time when DC tried to avoid controversies that haunted New 52. Cho, however, decided Diana’s underwear is a hill he will die on and threw a colossal temper tantrum that made him look extremely immature. Ever since his output involving Big 2 characters was a series of “fan” pinups of the same woman in different costumes with some characters screaming “OUTRAGE!” in the background, a sad attempt at pissing people off to feed his persecution complex.
Winner: Jack Kirby
Tumblr media
In the seventies Jack “the King” Kirby gave DC several books and characters who maybe never rose to the popularity of their core heroes or his Marvel creations, but became iconic fan-favorites none the less. Were he still alive, 2017 would be his 100th birthday and DC went out of their way to honor him. Kamandi Challenge, Mister Miracle, Bug! the Adventures of Forager and Demon: Hell is Earth all are limited series that allowed some of King’s creations shine once again. Then DC gave others special issues that are now collected in a sweet trade. Not to mention some of those titles featuring Kirby’s heroes meeting each other (I mean, Forager outright went and resolved cliffhanger of Kirby’s original OMAC series) and his other characters and concepts are being featured in ongoing books like Superman or Green Lanterns. DC went out of their way to celebrate Jack Kirby during Rebirth. This is especially poignant at the time when all Marvel managed to do are some cheap variant covers and putting a bunch of his Monsters into one event because they were too busy spending most of the year shitting on one of his most beloved characters in Secret Empire.
Loser: Justice Society America and Legion of Super-Heroes
Tumblr media
These two teams have been on everybody’s mouths ever since DC Rebirth Special teased their return. Yet outside of occasionally throwing us a bone here or there, teasing their returns in Batman and Flash, nothing had materialized out of this. I heard rumors there was a plan to launch JSA book, but it appears to have fallen through. Meaning currently both teams are in Comic Book Limbo with Shazam and Martian Manhunter.
Winner: Grant Morrison
Tumblr media
Rebirth has become a time when you could notice more and more references to works of certain creator popping up - crazy Scott, Grant Morisson. Be it use of his characters like Aztek in Justice League of America or Doctor Hurt and Professor Pyg in Nightwing or concepts like Hypertime or his Multiversal ideas. With writers like Joshua Williamson, Tom King, Scott Snyder, Gerard Way, Tim Seeley or James Tynion IV it is clear that right now DC Universe is put in hands of creators who have been influenced by Morrison’s body of work and even others, like Gene Yang, while not directly touching on his ideas still add more pieces having similar feel. I’ve been saying Grant Morrison would be proud several times during this era and for a good reason. It feels he has achieved a similar position Warren Ellis had at Marvel for some time before 2015 - maybe not directly affecting the company, but having enough people who learned from or were inspired by him working on it, that he is present in spirit even when he isn’t writing anything.
Loser: Eddie Berganza
Tumblr media
This might be a bit cheating since this has little to do with DC Rebirth itself. But it needs to be pointed out that during this era position of Eddie Berganza, an important editor and a serial sexual harasser who was seen as too big to be dealt with, started to tremble. Greg Rucka made DC ensure his new Wonder Woman book will not be edited by Berganza and neither he nor any member of his team will have to even interact with the guy. I like to see it as the first sing the industry was ready to deal with this pathetic, painful ulcer of a man. A thing that indeed has happened, when on the wave of allegations of sexual harassment in Hollywood his name has been brought up. DC and Warner decided to take a look at his case and he was promptly, in their own words, terminated. Good riddance.
Winner: Imprints, Crossovers, and Elseworlds
Tumblr media
One of the greatest successes of Rebirth for me was that DC took serious attempts at bringing back Wildstorm and Vertigo characters, whom they have mistreated by forcing into one Universe with rest of DC in New 52. Warren Ellis’ Wild Storm rebooted the 90′s Universe in a new flavor, giving us a fantastic science-fiction take on their heroes.Gerard Way brought back the feel of early Vertigo in his imprint Young Animal with great series like Doom Patrol, Shade: the Changing Girl, Mother Panic, Cave Carson Has a Cybernetic Eye and Bug! the Adventures of Forager. They are not stopping there, seeing how they are working on the return of Milestone Media, launching Dark Matter and working on an all-ages imprint.
At the same time DC launched an imprint for reinventing properties under their Hannah-Barbera license. Which, admittingly, gave us two baffling books in Scooby Apocalypse and Wacky Raceland but also fan-favorite Future Quest, Flinstones or new Dastardly & Muttley. DC seems to have enjoyed working on those books so much they made series of one-shots crossing over other HB characters with their heroes. And enjoyed THAT so much they did it again with Looney Tunes, which were much more entertaining I think anyone would have suspected. Speaking of which, DC has a blast with doing crossovers and you can always see them doing some sort of it - He-Man/Thundercats, Batman/Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, The Shadow/Batman, Wonder Woman/Conan, Justice League/Power Rangers or several Batman ‘66 crossovers. It seems to have even rubbed on their games, with Hellboy and Turtles making their way to Injustice 2.
And finally, DC had a lot of fun with Elseworlds lately. Including Nightwing: New Order, Green Lantern: Earth One, Gotham City Garage, DC Superhero Girls, DC Comics Bombshells or Batman: White Knight.  All of it contributed to a new image of DC as ever-expanding as both the world and the publisher. Which I feel greatly helped their success.
Loser: Marvel Comics
Tumblr media
Oh come on, you’ve seen this one coming. When DC wins, Marvel is the biggest loser and vice-versa. But to say that DC suddenly cleaning their act caught Marvel by surprise would be an understatement. It might even be said that their own behavior allowed Rebirth to succeed - after all the big plot twist if Rebirth Special, the big reveal that could have easily turned people against DC, has been overshadowed by Marvel turning Captain America into a Nazi. Compared to THAT what DC did seemed much less outrageous and many people seem to be more open-minded to the Rebirth as a whole as a reason.
After consistently losing in sales for months, Marvel tried to desperately try to shift the blame on diversity, bloat their sales, copy Rebirth with Legacy, while also making a ton of fuckups and see their bad past decisions finally catching up to them. It is shocking how badly they took the beating, culminating probably with a kick to the balls in form of DC nabbing Brian Bendis, Marvel’s best-selling writer - and even he was just one of the many creators who jumped ships by that point. Things have gotten so bad at Hosue of Ideas they let go their Editor-In-Chief Axel Alonso and replaced him with C.B. Cebulski. And even in that, they manage to come under fire.
While in general, both companies seem to be in the constant back and forth, when one is on top and the other starts fucking up, how drastically had the landscape shifted from New 52 era, when Marvel was seen as a dominant one even if DC was beating them at sales is, to me, a testament to how big success DC had with Rebirth. Now the question remains if they manage to keep it up going forward - which I sincerely wish to them. Because let me say something - DC Rebirth made me fall in love with so many aspects of DC Universe I didn’t care about before and it even made me seek some older DC titles. And that, I feel is the best testament to Rebirth’s success.
If you feel I have missed any winner or loser or just want to call me an idiot for something I’ve said, comments and reblogs are welcome.
Innerview: Nathan Reusch / The Record Machine
October 2008
Art: DJG Design
Note: Interview for a series called "Where Are They Now?"
Over the years we have gotten to work with really great creative people. After doing this for five years we want to give you guys some more insight on who has helped be a part of this label and make it what it is today. First off we have an interview with Danny Gibson of DJG Design. Danny has always been behind the scenes at TRM. He has helped create almost all of our logos and helped us with a lot of art direction and design since the begining. He also designed our very first release for Jame Dean Trio. 01) Introduction I was at the historic first official meeting of The Record Machine held at McCoy’s in West Port of Kansas City, MO over half a decade ago. My say didn’t amount to much. I think my mouth was full as I was mostly positioned to eat free cheeseburgers. 02) How have you been spending your days? My days are spent. Creeping on the Crow’s Feet I find that time is more easily measured in flap jack format than ever before. Something big has always been beaming and beating and I find myself blind peeping to see how far back the dogs with prickly sticks in their mouths yip, kick and nip for my heels. I do beat the crickets up at 5 am Monday thru Saturday in order to pinch a bit back. Evenings and weekends find me down slide sliver squeezes as well. I engage in making things and find some peace through all the pieces with my maker in the act of doing so. The handful of women I share space with enlightenment my walk as well…kitties and wife. Walks are good too and Fall time is the best for comfortable living in Kansas City. 03) Where have you been spending your days or evenings? A bounty of selections from my basement is always on the menu. I’m easily entertained hunched over at my good ol’ door desk. In the mean time I appreciate the company of my wife, kitty hair on my clothes, celebrating all movies, well-tailored music that sometimes requires a third ear and high rise stacks of books and comics. For nourishment I scrape every pan and pot my wife cooks in. And I am the dishwasher. In the twilight occasion, a one scoop waffle cone of peanut butter ice cream at Miami Ice just down the street does me correctly. If I’m in need to see the stars or get away, the family farm isn’t too far off. 04) What has been in your ears? I love big chunks of ear wax. While rockin’ to the thunder that Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band brought at Sprint Center here in KC, I had a big chunk of ear gunk fall out and it was heavenly. I’m really tickled by the musical foundations a fellow basement dweller named Micah Buzan of Blue Springs, MO is cranking out. He is only 18 and one to watch. Other Kansas City area highlights include The Tambourine Club and The ACBs, who both not only crank out some great and fresh music, but are genuinely lovely lads and don’t boast at the art of playing “rock star”. Far out of this area…I’m excited to hear more from Empire of the Sun as the single “Walking on a Dream” is some of the best dance pop I’ve heard since Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” album. Which, I’ve been rattling the rafters with that ’80s gold as well whenever I tire of the Samey So-So’s of most things current. Though, there are a few great new ones and “Evil Urges” by My Morning Jackets is my favorite album so far in 2008. And I can never get enough Bruce Springsteen in my diet. Every day and sometimes every minute of the day calls for a different selection from The Boss’s healthy catalogue. I’m also into the music of Suicide lately. Oh, and I’m quite convinced that Harry Nilsson is one of our finest song craftsmen as a handful of his albums have really been making sense to me and his range is all over the map. 05) What has been inspiring or refreshing to you lately? The work ethic, ideas, passion and output of singer-songwriters Harry Nilsson and Bruce Springsteen gets me going. I finished reading Cormac McCarthy’s “The Road” for the second and one half times and it is gold. I like Michael Chabon’s writing and work ethic a lot too and am spending my second Fall in his books…the same with Flannery O’Connor. In terms of arts and crafts, Saul Steinberg, Henryk Tomaszewski, Eric Carle and Bill Traylor continue to get me to smiling. Oh, and I must hand out an exclamation to fellow maker Ben Chlapek of Neversleeping.com as he is involved with a lot of lovely creations. 06) Earliest Influences that you can think of? P.T. Anderson’s “Punch-Drunk Love” is my favorite movie and I just took my 8th dip with it. My favorite 2008 movie and the best rockumentary ever so far is “Young @ Heart” and close behind for top of this year is “Be Kind Rewind” and “Son of Rambow”. This Fall and Winter look to boast one of the finest crops of films…I’m highly anticipating “The Road”, “The Wrestler”, “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button”, “Synecdoche, NY”, “The Changeling” and many others. Other great watches of late (old and new) include “The Tin Drum”, “Hoop Dreams”, “It’s A Wonderful Life”, “The Wicker Man” (1973), “Sorry, Haters”, “The Seven Year Itch”, “The Cars That Ate Paris”, “Don’t Look Now”, “Dark Days”, “Rat Catcher”, “The King of Kong”, “Alice”, “Dear Wendy” and “The Band’s Visit”. On the small screen, “Planet Earth” is mind-blowing worship that demands for me to invest in a projector for the future. In T.V. Land this summer I discovered and fell in love with “Beauty & The Geek”. I’m excited for the cool new sci-fi show with cool typography called “Fringe” and another season with the excellent “How I Met Your Mother”. Currently I’m backtracking through the entire series of “Sex & The City” and am absolutely loving it and can’t wait to get the movie! Oh, and the live Broadway production of “The Drowsy Chaperone” is gold genius and made me cry. 08) Last best show you have been to? Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band in Kansas City on August 24, 2008. It is the best show I’ve ever seen, even better than two previous Boss concerts. Sprint Center is now officially called Spring Center. I can’t wait for the Super Bowl half-time… 09) Any links to things you want to pass along? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZYwhvD2-fYw 10) The Final Word? Happy Birthday, Captain!
Steve x reader
Summary: it’s Steve’s 99th birthday!
Warnings: a couple swears, as usual
Word Count: 2674
A/N: enjoy :) I also tagged a couple people at the end that I’ve seen say they don’t mind if people tag them in fics. Hope that’s alright! Let me know if you don’t want the tag and I’ll lay off next time
The sound of approaching footsteps caused to you snatch the piece of notebook paper from the counter top and stuff it into your back pocket. You tried to assume a casual position and hoped it didn’t look like you were up to something. As soon as Tony and Nat entered the kitchen, you relaxed a bit and propped your elbows on the island in front of you.
“Hey, totally random question but you can see the fireworks from the roof, right? There’s not another building blocking them?” you asked.
“What kind of billionaire would I be if my tower had sub-par views?” Tony quipped.
“Cool cool cool. Okay, unrelated question: can I have the contact info for your party planner?”
“Sure, if you can convince me that those questions are actually unrelated.”
A corner of Nat’s lips lifted in a smirk as she grabbed a water bottle from the fridge and turned back around to face you. “Planning something for Steve?”
Dammit, Natasha.
Your eyes widened instantly and blood rushed to your cheeks as you tried to regain control over your expression. How did she do that? You didn’t think you’d ever been obvious about it and you’d only talked about it with two people…
Oh yeah, spy.
In the three months since you started working for Stark Industries, you’d moved from the marketing department to a sort of assistant to the Avengers. You honestly never would’ve expected it as it just sort of happened. Within two weeks, somehow you had attracted the attention of one Tony Stark and he started dragging you around the Tower for various other tasks. Your supervisor was a little peeved at first, but did he really expect you to say no to the boss man?
You almost tripped over yourself the first time Tony brought you around his team. You’d been staring intently at the folder in your hands, flipping through logo designs for a new organization within the company when suddenly he was introducing you to a group you didn’t know you’d walked into.
You’d become fast friends with Wanda and so you spent a lot of your free time with her and, by extension, sometimes the rest of the team. And sometime during the meetings and movie nights and company gatherings, you’d become close to the pair of super soldiers as well.
You crashed back into the moment when Tony chuckled softly. “Ooh. Got the hots for Capsicle? Bummer.”
Your gaze flicked to Tony. “Bummer?”
He lifted a shoulder in a half-hearted shrug. “Always a shame when beautiful women are off the market.”
“Off the- oh come on, Tony. That’s not… He doesn’t-”
“It’s cool. Your secret’s safe with me,” he added.
You narrowed your eyes as you watched him draw an X over his chest with his finger. “Okay one, you’re terrible at keeping secrets. And two, there’s no secret.”
“What makes you think I’m terrible at keeping secrets?”
“I am Iron Man.”
His lips twitched as he tried to hold back a grin. “Valid point. But the sentiment still stands. Listen, if you’re going to throw a party, do it yourself. Keep it to those of us usually around the tower–people he actually interacts with. Avengers plus the strays plus those of you that hold down the fort behind the scenes. He’ll be more comfortable.”
“Oh my God, Bucky, what the hell was I thinking?” you sighed as you marched into his room and flopped straight onto his bed.
He turned around in his desk chair and raised an eyebrow as he looked you over. “What’s the problem?”
“I can’t do this!” You knew your voice was muffled because you were face down on his bed but you couldn’t bring yourself to turn your head.
“Gotta be more specific.”
You started to talk again but the response got lost in his comforter.
“Doll. Move your face.”
You shifted just enough to angle your face in his direction and took a deep breath of fresh air before continuing. “I dunno what I was thinking. He’s gonna think my present is lame and by extension that I’m lame and I… I’m always just gonna be the girl who does marketing-slash-whatever else Tony decides he needs at the moment and… I dunno why I think Steve will ever be interested in me-”
“I told you I’m pretty sure he is-”
“No, Buck, he was just flirting with that new girl from the September Foundation and-”
“Okay, calm down. First, breathe. You’ve been non-stop since I asked you to elaborate. Stevie can’t flirt his way out of a paper bag so I guarantee it was all her.”
You simply groaned and rolled over, curling onto your side with your back to your friend. “Fine. Well she’s still gorgeous and I’m-”
“Nope. You’re not doin’ that.” You heard the chair creak and a couple quiet footsteps before the bed dipped down behind you. “Don’t sell yourself short, sweetheart. Steve thinks you’re great. Trust me, I hear it often. ‘She looks beautiful today. D'you think she likes to dance? God, Buck, her laugh is perfect. We have the same favorite dog.’ I swear, he’s like a damn teenager.”
You couldn’t stop the snort of laughter as you listened to Bucky imitate his best friend. When your giggles subsided, there was a beat of silence before you spoke again. "I’m nervous as hell.“
“He’ll love it.”
You couldn’t move from in front of the mirror in Wanda’s room. You tried but your nerves had sprouted roots you were sure had no intention of releasing their grasp on the ground beneath you. But hey, at least you felt cute as you stood there imitating a statue.
She had all but thrown your current outfit at you a couple hours ago before leaving to finish decorating. Your white shorts were paired with a flowy shirt that was blue with white stars near the collar and red and white stripes at the bottom. It reminded you a bit of Steve’s uniform; that was probably why she picked it.
Finally, you shook out your arms and took a deep breath to calm your nerves. “FRIDAY, where’s Steve?”
The AI answered a second later. “In the common room. He won’t stop asking for the team’s location.”
After a quick text to Wanda to let her know you were on your way with the birthday boy, you slid your phone into your back pocket and left your room. You found the Captain standing behind the couch in the main room with his arms folded across his chest.
“Something’s wrong with FRIDAY, she won’t-” He stopped short when he turned around and saw you. “Hi.”
You smirked. “You’ll catch flies if you keep your mouth open like that, Rogers.”
His mouth clamped shut as a blush covered his cheeks. “Sorry, um… something’s… FRIDAY’s not being very helpful. Do you, uh… where is everyone?”
“I think they said something about getting ready for the fireworks? It’s Independence Day!”
His face fell slightly. “It is, isn’t it?”
You tried to keep a smile on your face even though you felt a twinge of guilt at letting him think that was the only reason you considered the day special. Squaring your shoulders, you crossed the room and held your hand out to the man in front of you. He briefly hesitated before unfolding his arms and placing his palm in yours. You wasted no time in intertwining your fingers and pulling him along behind you as you made your way to the elevators.
Neither of you spoke as the elevator climbed fifteen floors to the rooftop patio. You squeezed his hand as the doors slid open, and you’d only taken a few steps out when he stopped walking, bringing you to a halt as well. The balloons and streamers were visible immediately, an overload of red, white, and blue around the open space. There was even two giant silver balloons in the shape of 9s. That must’ve been Tony’s idea.
The moment you looked back at the super soldier, you heard a shuffling noise before the rest of the group walked into the open, yelling “happy birthday” to the stunned man behind you.
Bucky was the first one to walk up and engulf Steve in a hug. “Here’s to the last year of your nineties, punk,” he said with a laugh.
Steve chuckled too, clapping a hand on Bucky’s back as he embraced him. “This your doin’, Buck?” he asked as he pulled away.
“Nah, she’s the party planner.”
Steve’s eyes widened as he turned to you.
“Surprise,” you said, doing a little wave with your hands. Well, with one hand because Steve still had a hold of the other.
You were sure he was about to respond but Tony swooped in and threw his arm over Steve’s shoulders. “Alright, old man, you can’t let these two hog you all night; you gotta mingle with everyone else too.”
Your eyes were glued to Steve’s back as he walked away, mesmerized by the way his muscles shifted beneath the dark blue t-shirt and jeans he wore. It wasn’t until Bucky let out a laugh next to you that you realized you were staring.
“I dunno why you think you’re subtle about your crush,” Bucky said quietly.
You couldn’t stop the huff as you reached out and smacked his chest. “Shut it, Barnes.”
You were beyond pleased with how the afternoon played out. There was a constant flow of easy conversations, no one ended up hammered, there were no arguments. They played a couple rounds of beer pong, which Steve was surprisingly good at. There was even a long round of embarrassing childhood stories that you surprisingly willingly participated in. That was probably courtesy of the alcohol.
A little before nightfall, Tony captured everyone’s attention to give a little speech celebrating Steve’s birthday. He finished it off by announcing that Steve needed to open his gifts before the fireworks started.
Steve glanced around the space then turned back to Tony with a raised eyebrow. “I know I’m old, but I’m not blind, am I?”
“Oh!” Tony snapped his fingers and pointed to you. “Take the Captain to his gift, yeah?”
“Just me?”
“We can’t bring it up here and it’ll get crowded if we all go down there, so yeah. Scram.”
Your heart hammered against your ribs as you and Steve entered the elevator again. The nerves were much worse this time. Before, you’d just been showing him that his friends didn’t forget his birthday. This time, you were showing him something that took more planning. It was much more personal. Questions flew through your head and caused a little seed of doubt to plant itself in your mind. What if Steve didn’t like your gift? What if it was too much? What if it was just too much from you.
The ride felt much longer this time too, despite only descending two floors. The hallway to your destination looked just like the rest did on the higher levels–clean lines, polished concrete floors, light gray walls, and a few scattered stainless steel doors. All the rooms had been empty until you asked to use one for the gift.
Steve walked silently next to you as you went straight for the end of the hallway. You asked him to scan his fingerprint on the pad beside the door, and it slid open with a soft whoosh.
The lights were off, showcasing the darkening cityscape through the floor-to-ceiling windows in front of you. You took a moment to take in the warm colors of the sunset and breathed in deeply to calm your nerves. Reaching out to a light switch, you revealed a brand new art studio.
You heard the breath leave Steve’s lungs in a quiet gasp.
The room wasn’t huge–maybe twenty by thirty feet–but there was clearly more than enough room to work on multiple projects at once. The light beige walls and dark floors were much easier on the eyes than the sterile feel of the hallway and a few strategically placed lamps eliminated the need for the overhead florescent lights. There was a tall, metal cabinet on the left side of the room, next to a couple shorter units with thin drawers for storing smaller items. A sink finished off that wall, giving him a place to clean paintbrushes. Two easels stood on the opposite side of the room beside a comfortable looking sitting area where he could relax. A large table sat in the middle of the room, providing a decently sized, flat workspace.
“Suprise! Again! So um. I thought that maybe you’d want a studio? You said you usually paint and draw in your room but it gets kinda messy and crowded so I asked Tony if he had an available room–preferably with an awesome view. And I’m super jealous, by the way,” you said with a smile as you stood in the middle of the room.
His eyes darted around the space. But he was still silent so you kept talking.
“Buck and I put together those cabinets and everyone bought you a bunch of supplies. Paints, canvases, charcoal pencils. Clint actually made this table. You can tell FRIDAY who you’d like to have access up here–if you want anyone up here at all. Um. I know you like records but I bet it’s distracting having to flip them every now and then, right? So FRIDAY also has access to all your music and you can control it with that panel right there; I’ll help you figure it out if you need. Oh! And those pictures on the wall are from Pe–uh they’re from Spider-Man. I asked for some really cool pictures of Brooklyn-”
Another huff from Steve broke your train of thought. Glancing to the side, you saw the look of pure adoration on his face.
“Is it… do you like it?”
“I love it,” he breathed.
You absolutely couldn’t stop the smile from spreading across your face and the little happy dance you did at his admission. You were just about to voice how ecstatic you were when he stepped closer and pressed his lips to yours.
You used to scoff at people when they told you they saw fireworks during a kiss, but you understood it now. Assuming you hadn’t been gone too long and those weren’t the actual fireworks.
His large hands cupped your face as the kiss continued. Heat bloomed out from the center of your chest and you just knew if he backed off at that moment, he’d see the blush covering your face. This was all you’d wanted for months and wow, your little daydreams did not come anywhere close to the real thing.
You were the first to pull away for air. He pressed his forehead to yours, your exhales intermingling between you. It took you a couple moments to realize you’d been gripping the front of his shirt. You looked down with a soft laugh and tried to smooth away the wrinkles.
“You’re amazing,” Steve said quietly. “Can’t believe you did all this for me.”
You smiled as you lifted your eyes to his again. “Everyone deserves something special every now and then. Though I’m afraid I’ve set the bar pretty high now for personalized gifts…”
He laughed. “True. No one else gets to thank you the way I did though,” he said as he leaned down for another quick kiss.
“Aw, but Nat’s birthday’s coming next!”
You were sure Steve tried to keep his expression neutral but a shade of pink still broke out and covered his face and neck.
You giggled. “I’m sorry, I couldn’t resist; I like it when you blush.”
He simply shook his head. “You’re somethin’ else, doll.”
You placed a kiss on his cheek before grabbing his hand once more. “Happy birthday Captain. Now c'mon, let’s go watch the fireworks.”
🏆 Gun and a Hotel Bible 🏆 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐This film will win many awards, it’s fantastic!!!Screening at regal Cinemas at LA LIVE Saturday November 9th, theater number 8, 300 seats.This is an amazing film, Character driven, Exciting, Provocative and well written, the actors portrayal of their characters is exemplary, Our reviewers are absolutely at odds with each other right now as a large group of us just watched it as a submission to Film Fest La, it provokes conversation unlike any other film submission we have seen in three years, it has us arguing, debating, cringing, agreeing, disagreeing, and many other emotions flowing in the room, Edward was speechless for a few minutes too!!!, A few of us hated it due to ideology, but loved it too due to the content creating conversations....It's a must see and we are proud to say it is a top choice from our festival staff.www.GunandaHotelBible.comGun and a Hotel BibleNOTE: The original play was titled Gun a and Motel Bible. Motel was changed to Hotel for the film.Gun And A Hotel Bible is a provocative dialogue between a man on the verge of a violent act, and a personified Hotel Bible. Spend one hour in a desperate man's life as Pete comes "face-to-face" with everything he once believed in. Gideon (being, ya know, a Bible) doesn’t get out much. Still, he has plenty to say... but Pete’s heard it all before and he's more than ready to spar with the “Word of God.” As ideas about morality, the Bible, and God fly, the clock ticks. Gideon and Pete battle and bond as they are forced to deal with their inadequacies. Can Gideon sway Pete before Pete pulls the trigger?Bradley and Daniel have been writing and performing together for the better part of a decade. They have always bonded over good stories and good story telling. In the fall of 2017, Bradley (a big Beatles fan) pitched Daniel the idea of writing a play using a Gideon’s Bible as a character – an idea he got when listening to the Beatles’ song “Rocky Raccoon.” Eight months, several drafts, and dozens of philosophical discussions later, they brought on Alicia Joy LeBlanc to help bring the story to the stage. After an award-winning run at the 2018 Hollywood Fringe Festival, Embrace Entertainment greenlit the feature adaptation of the story: Gun and a Hotel Bible. Daniel and Bradley bring their differences, doubts, and deep friendship to the fore as they slug out the question: “Why do we believe what we believe?” Follow, Like and share social media sites: Instagram: instagram.com/gunandahotelbible/ Twitter: twitter.com/GunHotelBibleWords can’t describe how invested I was in Gun and a Motel Bible. As I was walking out of the theatre and to my car, a random stranger sparked a conversation with me asking me what show I had seen. I told him what I saw and his face lit up, indicating that he saw it to. We spent the rest of our walk analyzing the show. Major props to Bradley Gosnell for not only starring in it, but also being one of writers behind it. Fantastic job!! – Jake Mouchawar“An intriguing concept smartly delivered. Basically a fractured man’s debate with his forsaken faith, as the clock ticks down to a life changing act. The taut writing crackles with emotional intelligence and, given the concept, surprisingly organic comedy. Those with some scriptural familiarity will undoubtedly nod along with the inherent contradictions that are raised and debated, while those less scripturally inclined (like myself) need not worry. The play does all the work for you. It is not interested in delivering winners and losers, or even a faith-based message per se. It simply asks you to take the journey with these two characters who are impossible not to root for. Gosnell and Floren (who are also the playwrights) display razor sharp timing and, given how familiar they must be with the material, remarkably urgent, just-now deliveries. Floren’s cheerfully overeager, Mormon-on-the-doorstep enthusiasm brings levity at first, then a forceful flaws-and-all testament of faith as the ultimate healer, then finally pleaful desperation as the proverbial clock is about to run out. As the man with a dark plan, Gosnell does the emotional heavy lifting with nuance and humanity, wisely resisting the urge to play things too wrought or twitchy. It’s a performance that allows the audience to see the decent guy he must have been, punctuated by sudden outbursts of raw anger, betrayal, and self-reflective emotional reckoning. It all happens so seamlessly, it’s easy to lose sight of the high wire act these actor / playwrights have pulled off. LaBlanc makes the most of a spare, one room set. No movement wasted. Nothing false or forced. Never too little or too much. Tech work is solid. At a brisk 50 minutes, this one act journey is the best hour I can recall spending away from the smart phone in a long time.” -Baily Walker“I saw this play twice and I hope I get the chance to see it again! First thoughts…. what brilliant writing! The play has such a simple premise, but through that premise the characters take us on a complex journey of understanding what makes and justifies a moral code. At the beginning I was quick to choose my side between the characters, but just about halfway through… I couldn’t pick a side anymore as I found myself rooting for both of them. And what beautiful performances! The chemistry between actors Bradley Gosnell and Daniel Floren really brought the story to life. Their genuine/honest performances were a rollercoaster ride. One moment I was laughing out loud and just a minute later my heart was breaking. The direction was fantastic and the energy throughout the play took the suspense that was set up in the premise even further. Seeing it a second time gave me a chance to appreciate it even more, catching small details I missed the first time around. I hope to have the chance to see Gun and a Motel Bible again, share it with some friends, and I look forward to what the collaborators of this show come up with next.” – Ashton Avila“What a treat! Witty, intelligent, and refreshingly original, without isolating the audience (a tough feat when one of the characters is a BOOK!) I was laughing out loud while wrestling with my own moral dilemmas as the characters’ confronted theirs. These two talented actors bring you into some powerful and heavy debates that leave you teetering right on the edge of reason and insanity. Congrats to director, writers, and crew… it was my favorite fringe show this year!” -Ana Zimbart“This short but engrossing play was impressive on so many levels. The quality of the script: profound ideas and thoughts presented with such clear articulation and passion; you never feel as though you’re being preached to, or hit over the head with an opposing belief. The acting: these young men so embodied their characters, I really wanted them to continue their discussion; you could feel the energy and sincerity of their respective positions, as well as their disappointment, confusion and doubt. Don’t miss this one!” – Judy Burrishttps://www.hollywoodfringe.org/projects/5063Bradley Gosnell – Writer, ActorBradley Gosnell – Writer, Actor, Producer Bradley Gosnell is an actor based in Los Angeles. She is a short, character actress, and writer in Los Angeles. After reading the script she jumped at the opportunity to direct it and to work with talented actors, Dan Floren and Bradley Gosnell. She was thrilled to work with director Raja Gosnell in transforming this story for the screen.IMDB page: https://www.imdb.com/name/nm4251331/Raja Gosnell – Director When Raja saw the play Gun and A Motel Bible at the LA Fringe Festival he was beyond impressed with the intelligent writing and emotional acting. Hearing the reactions on the sidewalk after the show, and how the play served as an impetus for deep conversations, he was convinced that story should be brought to the screen.This was an opportunity for Raja to walk along side the young imaginative minds who created the story and help them bring the project to life on film. After meetings with writers Bradley and Daniel to discuss their vision, it was clear that they would serve as producers as well as actors. Having had been trusted to bring the story to the stage, it was important that director Alicia LeBlanc be a part of the team. Her blocking, understanding of the characters and coaching of the actors were as valuable on set as in the theatre.The cast and crew consisted of some established professionals together with many young artists at the beginning of their careers, giving freely of their time and talents. The energy, support and love on the set proved vital to this independent production with a small budget. The entire film was shot in under a week so it took unselfish teamwork to pull it off. Co-Director, Alicia LaBlanc also served as script supervisor. PAs were also stand-ins. Producers served meals and hauled props. The cast and crew were small in number but big in heart!Raja Gosnell has been in the movie business for four decades. After editing blockbusters such as Home Alone and Mrs. Doubtfire, he transitioned into directing. Directing credits include the Smurfs films, Big Momma’s House, Never Been Kissed, and Beverly Hills Chihuahua.Chelsea Gonnering – Producer Born and raised in Southern California, Chelsea grew up surrounded by art and music thanks to her parents and older sister.     MIRACLE MOMENT® “For beautiful eyes, look for the good in others; for beautiful lips, speak only words of kindness; and for poise, walk with the knowledge that you are never alone.” – Audrey Hepburn
MESSAGE FROM CYNTHIA BRIAN, Founder/Executive Director
Many moons ago, I had the privilege of acting in a film with the classy Audrey Hepburn and Robert Wagner. Their stars shone brightly yet they were kind, generous, and humorous. Reflecting on those moments, I know I was blessed to bask in their light.
One of our core missions here at Be the Star You Are!® is to encourage our volunteers, donors, and beneficiaries to truly be the stars they were born to be. That means we want you to greet the world sparkling and shining. Of course, we all have bad days, but when we train our brains to adopt the power of positivity, we will feel better, have improved health, and help others elevate their moods. It takes practice to be positive. We need to rehearse just as we would to learn any skill. Appreciate a beautiful day. Write down what you are grateful for before you go to bed each evening. Be generous towards others. A 2016 study discovered that being kind to others was the most effective way to boost our happiness quotient, even more that treating ourselves to something special. Start smiling more because smiles are contagious. Deal with the negativity and spin the bad into a lesson for good. Be kind to yourself and treat yourself with dignity and respect.
My daughter who was the teen co-founder of BTSYA, Heather Brittany, has a smile that generates smiles for everyone. She is my beacon of positivity keeping me afloat when times are tough. We all need a cheerleader in our lives. Temecula Valley is one of the top contestants in the USA Today Reader’s Choice Best Wine Regions and Heather is the face of Temecula Valley. You can vote here: https://www.10best.com/awards/travel/best-wine-region-2019/temecula-valley-california/ . She was recently profiled by Danza del Sol winery where she works in Temecula. Congratulations to this smile maker: https://www.danzadelsolwinery.com/blog/Danza-Del-Sol-Spotlight .
It's 20 years now that we volunteers at Be the Star You Are!® 501 c3 literacy and positive media message charity have been giving our time to empower and encourage others. Christopher Locke of Independent Book Publishers Association interviewed me about our work at BTSYA. Thanks Christopher. Check out the interview and spotlight. https://www.ibpa-online.org/news/460747/IBPA-Member-Spotlight-Cynthia-Brian.htm
  DONATED BOOKS TO CAMP FOR FOSTER KIDS
“Thank you, again, for all your help. This is going to make a very big difference to a bunch of kids who have very little to call their own.” Melanie Hunter, Camp for Foster Kids
Books are the gifts that keep on giving. They are a treasure that can be cherished for lifetime and passed to the next generation. Be the Star You Are!® donated cases of brand new books to a Northern California Camp for Foster Kids. Many of these children, ages 7-16 who are wards of the state had no belongings. Most had to leave their homes with nothing. Some had never owned a personal book or received a gift. Now with our help, each child who attended the camp received the gift of their very own new book.  BTSYA is spreading joy to kids!
We want to be able to continue to give to those in need and we need your help to do this. Please make a donation to Be the Star You Are!® either via PAYPAL GIVING FUND with 100% going to BTSYA with NO FEES: https://www.paypal.com/fundraiser/charity/1504 or by check to BTSYA, PO Box 376, Moraga, California 94556.
  IGNITE A SPARK! by Karen Kitchel “The kindness of the fans” is what Jill Ellis, Head Coach of USA Women’s National Soccer Team, identified as the most memorable part of her experience. Amazing how it’s the little things we do that can have the greatest impact. Spontaneous acts of kindness often ignite sparks in others. Be the highlight of someone’s today! Need a few ideas? *  Tell your best friend what you appreciate about them *  Leave a note on someone’s windshield – “You have a cool car!” *  Buy a box of popsicles and take them to a domestic abuse shelter *  Convey to the next service person you encounter how good they are at what they do and then ask to speak to their manager *  Fill a bag with snacks, socks and a bottle of water. Toss it in your car and hand it to the next homeless person you see
Contributed by volunteer Karen Kitchel who is passionate about scattering kindness. Currently she serves meals to the homeless, is a volunteer teacher, writer, job coach, and mentor. She wrote the chapter, The Gift of Adoption, in our book, Be the Star You Are! Millennials to Boomers Celebrating Gifts of Positive Voices in a Changing Digital World and she continues to volunteer as a contributor to our newsletter. www.scatteringkindness.com
