I am so obsessed with the Huntmaster. Most unusual for a deathmark. I don't know if we get a detailed description anywhere of how deathmarks used to be raised and trained - but they were certainly never considered honourable, except only in the most reluctant circumstances. Death-by-deathmark is a 'base assassination', fit only for the non-sentient or the disgraced, and since their work is a dirty secret they barely get any acknowledgement. Their entire existence is a taboo. According to the rules of their society, they're barely even necron; they don't even suffer the Anti-Life Insanity Disease in the same way other Destroyers do, they have their own variation.

We know that deathmarks don't take this lying down - Lysikor certainly doesn't, but he in many ways is the societal perception of deathmarks played straight. He's scheming and treacherous and nobody is surprised by this, he knows the role he is playing, and he'll exploit it every way he can. Not so much the Huntmaster. He's dangerous, he's expensive, and local necron nobles find his work disgusting - but he's loyal, too, and he is trusted, enough that Trazyn hangs out with him in his oubliette and entrusts the Empathic Obliterator to him. He seems to have been treated well ever since he came to Solemnace, being allowed to work at his own pace - sometimes against his own master's pace! - and everything about him suggests he enjoys being with Trazyn. That's not the usual deathmark treatment at all, they have something special going on here.

Now I've no doubt that a large part of this relates to how Trazyn treats his court, that is to say: with surprising courteousness. As a rule Trazyn values his retainers, and since Trazyn is so far beyond necron perceptions of normality, it makes sense he would be good to his deathmark too. But respect goes both ways, and I find myself headcanoning endlessly just what Trazyn did to earn the Huntmaster's endless loyalty, or what the Huntmaster must've gone through before his residence at Solemnace. He was already infamous when Trazyn secured his fealty. Was he actually admired in his old dynasty, or was he feared and hated like any other deathmark? Did he have that void cape before he came to Solemnace? Did Trazyn offer that price for him himself, or did he have to negotiated over? Was he known for his loyalty before, or is Trazyn the only master he's ever respected? Did they have a genuine friendship prior to biotransference, or did they start spiraling together in their mutual collectors' insanity after the Great Sleep? Some real food for thought there 🤔

Love Letter is extremely cute. Are these messengers off duty or are they just meeting up whenever their paths can cross? Anyways in this situation they're caring for a slugpup together, resting after a long cycle. Their missions have been accomplished, but they're not returning to their iterators just yet. Kip told me that xir Hunter design is part red lizard and as such bigger than average, I think I might have gone a bit too far with that but uhm. In my defense. GLIZZY???

The Burning Arti and Hunter's pup. inherited Hunter's weak body and Arti's...fire powder body???? anyways, i was thinking she could like, light herself on fire and shit, and her one eye is always on fire as a reference to both parents having a fucked up eye :] she's also the smallest pup

The Boomstick do you see what i did there. with the name. hehe anyways, Boomstick i gave Arti's fire powder and Spears', well...spears. since they have a mouth, they wouldn't need to eat through the spears. so they just...create fire spears for the fuck of it. maybe the spear creation would take a food pip per spear or smthn idk

The ??? i'm gonna be real here fellas i had nothing for Spears' and Hunter's kid. actually nothing. i just slapped together some features. i know nothing about this kid (also i couldn't find a shipname for Hunter and Spears so i made one. welcome Artificially Romanced)

Love that in the 40k tabletop game deathmarks travel in tiny packs. A thing snipers are typically not known to do. I think they might be the one of the only sniper units in the game that work like that? I think space marines get a group of 3? But five little pals off sniping is so charming to me. I bet they get brunch afterwards.

I've been reading a lot of Warhammer 40k novels and short stories lately, mostly T'au and Necron stuff. I'm particularly enamoured with Trazyn and all the mischief he gets up to, and I love that he has a whole crew of necrons on Solemnace who are just as eccentric as he is. I've been doodling some characters and decided to draw up some proper pieces with inking and colouring too.

So, here's Arch-Cryptek Sannet (the forgetful chief curator who needs to write things down to recall them), and Huntmaster, game warden of Solemnace (a very cool deathmark who wears a void-cape and helps Trazyn collect specimens for study and preservation. I gave him a hood because it looks cool and he matches Trazyn now. :3)

Let the Necrons have a sitcom already, there's more than enough drama and comedy for it. I love petty old robots.

Headcanon that the current Solemnace crew all have Waist Inventory™, taking after their overlord, who still carries his curios in this manner despite also having free access to such things as dimensional pockets and tessarect labyrinths. We know the Huntmaster canonically carries his trophies like this, and since Sannet apparently fashions his writing implements out of his own necrodermis, it doesn't sound too far-fetched that he might keep field notes and the like in a similar fashion. Ashkut could have a chronomancer prod there or something. The possibilities are endless

Doing Dxun SM for a new teammate who had never done it before, and even though we found all the codices for her so she’d be able to use the elevator shortcut, we still took the stairs as a right of passage (cackling at the spoonies being the ones whose toons were still hunched over after reaching the top, even while fighting, just like “uh huh, yeah I’m fine!”).

Everyone else in the raid had forgotten that if you take the stairs up, you have to take the other set of stairs down and go through the turret room. Even with ARIA’s warning that the turrets activate on motion, so “for your safety, please walk, don’t run,” Suff just assblasted in and got murdered (like one does), as I was typing that you are safer if you RP-walk, and he yelled “that’s a thing?!” (cue laughter over RP-walking to survive being an actual mechanic, but have none of you played ANY platformers or puzzle games where you have to sneak past a guarded room and stealth is critical and if they hear or see you you’re dead?”

Anyway, me 🤝 ARIA, having our directions clearly stated and then ignored, but at least when Suff ignores directions the results are usually funny and he’s not a butt about it.

Heyo folks! So here's a list of this for another fic I am going to workon. I am writing here the rules so I don't forget and I would love to see people give me their opinions on what I can add! This time it IS a crossover series with Cuthulhu Mythos! (Mostly lovecraft lore and some other writer's take on it sprinkled in. No Other gods vs Great Old Ones nonsense though that was a stupid adition to Mythos I will DIE on this hill)

Our skele bois and everyone really are going to learn the HARD way there are being infinitely scarier and powerful than measely star parasites or amalgamation of emotions :D

This came after a delightful conversarion with a friend in space battle. So some heads ups;

Other gods or Outer Gods as people know them are the undisputed strongest things for what I hope obvious reasons. Put an unshattered C'tan or a chaos god in front of Nyarlathotep and they'll beg for their life

Azathoth DID NOT create 40k or any universe. Its a fan theory. It was Yog-Sothoth ;)

The races such as Elder Things and Great Race of Yith are among the oldest and most advanced (they are basically the Xeelee's since thats what they are meant to be in OG mythos Lovecraft was just shit at math and science) creatures in the verse. Remember how Mep'het'Ran bitched to the Necrontyr about how they also fought with the cruel old ones and lost and turned into celestial fart gases...well he didn't TECHNICALLY lie.

It just wasn't the 'Old Ones' Necrontyr were thinking XD (for real though in the ONLY alliance these two races ever forged they kicked the shit out of C'tan and destroyed their OG bodies) for these races, species in 40k galaxy might as well be monkeyd hitting each other with sticks. The difference between them are that great.

That war happened not 200 million year into the big bang btw. Yeah...when the first stars were babies. Elder Things and Yith are that old...they might be that old in OG mythos too now that I think about it 🤔

Remember Nihilakh Yyth seer? Yeah that thing is another unfortunate race Yith used as bodies and left long before necrons ever came...unfortunately the inhabitation caused the race to develop clairvoyance. And we all know what happened to the poor bastards.

The Elder things came to earth was basically an amish community got tired of ultra advanced tech XD they are the reason earth has life. They came waayyy before the billion year mark Lovecraft gives. First one celled organisms on earth appeard around 3.7 billion years ago. Yeah.

Randolph Carter is/was a friend of Big E's and still kicking in 40k with his silver key. Fully living in dreamlands with his friends and boy-ahem eternal headache Nyarlathotep though. He and Trazyn will become GOOD friends...maybe Orikan too. Tech wizardry isn't just belong to necrons after all.

Magic other than warp exists and it is both intransically bound with tech and seperate enough. Mostly safe too if you manage to keep your head while learning.

Assume all weird creatures in mythos exist.

Deep Ones have their own planet and allied with Big E around 2020s. They have full on STCs under their planet and still can build and understand DAOT tech, they are just smart enough to hide it really well. And since all of them are immortal most of the ones on the planet (pure and hybrids both) are over 30.000 years old. And remember EVERYTHING. Rest of the Imperium thinks they are filfhy mutants to be avoided. Deep Ones and hybrids mostly bleakly amused seeing most were alive in 1920s America how humanity seems to abandon one type of racism then immediatly embracing another.

Lost 2 Primarchs taken a worship of the Other Gods...this is magnetitudes more dire than chaos worship.

Orikan, Trazyn and Phillias will meet an interesting human who knows more than she ever should...if they are nice to her she might even draw them when they were necrontyr. She A LOT to say about their relationship during flesh times...revelations might or might not cause eternal sense to loss , pain and horror to what was lost...and maybe hope. 🤷‍♀️ (yes during Trazyn's bubble confinement)

Except Nyarlathotep to pop on Song of Oblivion and taunt Szerakh. Randoph migh or might not put the fear of actual gods in Szeras too

Anrakyr and Zulthanekh (don't ask me how they will ever meet I am just taken by the idea of their friendship because of ghostinthegalleries) will get a history lesson of the galaxy from Nyarlathotep.

Shoggoths are allies of humanity. As they lived only the really intelligent and sentient ones survived and after their ACTUAL discovery humanity (DAOT) have been not only nice to them but give them human rights Elder Thing colony never thought of. Surviving ones are fiercely loyal to humanity but few know their existance.... for obvious reasons. They are a hard counter for tyranids and help preserve Big E.

Big E was aware of other gods and there was no stopping them. Thankfully the only one who was invested into the galaxy was Nyarlathotep and Big E just pointed out sitting back and watching the inevitable clusterfucks all races cause would be infinitely more entertaining. (Randoph also threathened Nyarlathotep with sleeping on couch in Ilek-Vad XD)
