|| 🌙 ||: ❝ It's okay honey, I-I'm just so happy to see you! ❞
She didn't mind their slow fall due to Nisha clinging to her, not in the slightest. Poor vampire was pretty touch starved since her girlfriend had been busy.

Good luck prying her off at this point, Nisha.
@gravityvampire
"Hiiiii baby!" she squealed, clinging furiously to Naomi and practically dragging her down to earth with her weight alone.
"I'm so sorry I've been busy, lots of traveling and all that!"

The thing is, if the Borderlands ever really happens and if it's successful enough to warrant a sequel or even start a franchise (doubtful, with the way franchises and blockbusters are doing at the box office rn) and if they choose to include Nisha at some point and if they choose to be true to her characterisation from the games in any meaningful capacity (biggest fear: casting some white lady a cowboy hat give her a one-line cameo in the tenth movie of the franchise), I do find myself wondering how what would be the most interesting way to do it:
Either: They choose to go in the same order as the games and make Borderlands 2 before Pre-Sequel: (pro: legendary game and legendary characters, people would be hyped enough for it to forgive possible sins of Borderlands 1, contra: not chronological), they would be introducing her as the Sheriff of Lynchwood first. This might be a little difficult for a movie because Lynchwood is not part of the main storyline so they would have to find a way to tie it back into the main Vault-Hunting/Stop-Handsome Jack/Defeat the Warrior lot. I could see them giving Nisha the role of some sort of danger following behind - the main characters just hear occasionally some rumours or see some signs that someone is following them, inquiring about them, having some goons report on them until there is eventually a twist (much like the Wilhelm fight) until she suddenly shows up in a vulnerable moment and almost ruins everything. The other option is that they do find a plot-reason to go to Lynchwood and the events unfold similarly to the way they happened in the game.
Or: They choose to do Pre-Sequel before Borderlands 2 in order to do things in a more logical order
Now, I feel like this provides some really fun options actually because here we get Nisha as a member of the main-gang and she's a pretty multi-faceted character:
they could focus on the seemingly 'chill, laid-back' aspect of her character first, possibly even introducing her as being somewhat relatable to Timothy because she's not a freaking stoic freaking soldier warrior war-machine like Wilhelm or Athena or as extra as Aurelia (I love you, queen) or ...well...Claptrap being Claptrap, so he starts out being somewhat grateful to have someone "normal" around - until she gets going and he finds out that there are Some Very Fundamental Things Wrong About This Woman
they could lean into the hero/lawbringer side and introduce her that way (this would also make sense if they did Borderlands 2 first and the audience knows her as the Sheriff of Lynchwood) and introduce her during the fight against the bandits on the Hyperion rocket in the opening of Borderlands TPS as someone who just really hates bandits and wants order for the universe - except then we begin to find out that she's also wanted for a BUNCH of crimes - which is where were get into the "the bandit who hunts bandits" thing - except as the movie goes on, we realise that she really always was that way and it's not so much a story about her losing herself or losing any ethical perspective but that she's really taking on a form and taking on roles that allow her to exert the violence she craves.
They could start with the "token evil team member" role right away (I mean, Wilhelm and Aurelia are also Wilhelm and Aurelia but Wilhelm is at best neutral evil and the whole point of Aurelia is that she does in the end become disgusted with what Jack is doing, while from Nish's perspective, Jack is (slowly, and arguably never completely) catching up to her level of single-minded viciousness and sadism.
Another thing I can imagine (because they cannot do the audio logs the way they did in the games) that the characters get a really quick O-Ren Ishii-style introduction with their backstories in different styles that fit the theme of their characters (e.g. a western style for Nisha)
#I mean very likely none of this is ever gonna happen and they're just going to make a very weird re-imagining of Borderlands 1 that flops#and no one ever talks about again#but it is fun to think about#borderlands#nisha kadam#fandom#honestly I think the different borderlands games would fair best as a short mini-series each game#possibly each episode focussing on a different character#because basically all these characters have their own story and fandom#and I feel like for a movie they would need to throw a lot of characters and world-building under the bus to make it work#plus I'm a bit worried that whether and how they include Nisha kind of comes to hinge on literally how despicable she is at times.#I don't want them to soften her or erase parts of her :(

So I Read The Tales of Crestoria Manga Despite Knowing Very Little Japanese
You probably know all the drama and what not about Crestoria getting shut down and how there’s now a manga adaptation that’s on a seesaw of continuing serialization and getting on the verge of cancellation. Yeah, I have the manga in my possession right now. The manga isn’t licensed in English and it’s all in Japanese. You might be thinking, “Oh, you must be good in Japanese for you to get the manga.” To that, I cackle. I can’t read Japanese very well; if I were to rate myself, I’d give myself a 4/10. I can read hiragana, katakana and very little kanji. I had to rely on translations to read through this manga.
Now that I finished Volume 1, how is it? I liked it. It was clearly nice to see Crestoria again even if the story has been filtered to remove the Tales cameo characters and alter a lot of lore revolving around them. It sort of makes you want to think about how they’re gonna do that for future content and how well they’d do it. Because they took out the cameos, the story does feel a bit fast-paced, but another reason for that is because Bamco hates Crestoria which is why this manga is often teetering between continuing to get serialized and on the verge of cancellation.
The character interactions and portrayals do seem a lot better than how they were in the game. I think the biggest notable difference between the game and the manga is how Misella is portrayed. To be honest, I despised Misella in the gameeasily one of my least favorite Tales characters overall. However, the manga actually redeems her a lot by toning down her Kanata-simping and having substance. She still has an dependency towards Kanata, but it’s not overdone. She even makes her own questions outside of Kanata like how an Enforcer took Gordon and wonders if sending criminals to die is acceptable. Vicious feels a lot more vulgar in terms of speech pattern and behavior, but that’s how he is like in general. He flips Aegis off in the manga and I am actually entertained by it. I also do like that Kanata isn’t too naive like he was in the game and that he does question things once he learns the truth about his father and what not. Also, his feelings for Misella are more obvious in the manga as his actions and a lot of his thoughts revolve around her and how he wants to protect her. It feels cuter and sweeter in the manga compared to the game. Aegis does feel more capable and competent in the manga compared to the game. Perhaps it’s because he appeared at the beginning and at a low level when you fight him with Leon, hence why he felt weak in the game. Without Leon and just being by himself really gives him that spotlight to show off why he’s one of the strongest knights in Medagal. He spins his spear to deflect Vicious’s bullets, which sort of shows that even if he isn’t super buff, he’s a strategic guy.
Because the game was in a visual novel style, some scenes and such aren’t shown in full detail and only through implication. The manga allows some of these off-screen details to be fleshed out like showing off Nash’s sister Nisha in person and how sweet she is and seeing graphic scenes like Kanata killing Cody. I think manga allows the scenes and characters to be a bit more expressive compared to the game where they only have a certain amount of expressions and what not. Heck, I quite love the ending scene of this first volume where Misella is shown stabbing Vicious while giving a ‘yandere girlfriend’ expression that you’d never expect Misella to have in-game.
Because this is a manga adaptation of a game, some important scenes are rearranged while some scenes have additional details either added or removed. For example, the scene with Kanata and Misella at the Brightblaze flower field is actually shown some time after Misella is announced of her adoption. In the game, it happens right after that scene. I honestly do think the manga does handle the timeframe a bit better because it did feel a little awkward placement-wise in the game. Meanwhile, some scenes in the game had Nash involved like him third wheeling Kanata and Misella’s little heart-to-heart moment which was removed from the manga and Kanata stumbling upon Cody and Misella’s conversation by himself and not having Nash show him what’s going on. Some additional scenes that was added are one rather icky scene with Cody and Misella that I’d rather not say and another scene where Kanata and Misella run away from an Enforcer but get separated when the latter falls off a steep ledge. I do like that the manga isn’t a 100% complete replication of the game and that the author is doing their best to make their own interpretation of the story while staying true to the game’s lore.
I guess my only real gripe about what I’ve read in Volume 1 is that the manga is written in a way that you’re expected to know the game’s lore about Vision Orbs and Enforcers. They don’t explain this for potential first-time readers, so there could be a chance that a person unaware of Crestoria’s story might have to look it up on the Internet to get a sense of why these people have Vision Orbs and why there are Enforcers. I mean, they explained what the Great Transgressor is but they couldn’t have time to explain the system of the world and what not?
Overall, this was a solid adaptation of the first half of the first chapter of the game. I have the other two volumes, but I don’t know when I’ll get to them. I think this is also a good item for Tales collectors to have. If you want to buy the manga, it’s available in some Japanese online stores. A friend said that Suguruya is a good place to buy it. I bought mine from CDJapan. My blog Arum Journal is affiliated with CDJapan, so here’s my post on where to buy the manga! If you do buy it from Japanese sites, beware of shipping prices. They can really eat up your wallet. If you do buy it from CDJapan, I do recommend getting it shipped from DHL because they’re the fastest. Anyways, if you have any additional questions about the first volume of the Crestoria manga, please let me know!

He’s All That: Influencer Addison Rae Helms a Cast of Familiar Faces
https://ift.tt/eA8V8J
For Gen-X viewers, He’s All That is a story we’ve seen before: Pygmalion or My Fair Lady, but updated with cultural references, settings, and technology that make the story of the lesson behind the plot—that the person you are is more important than the image you put forth—more connected to a modern audience. But digital natives who have grown up with as much with TikTok as with teen movie tropes will have a far richer experience, recognizing the cast not only as actors, but as the same influencers they’re playing.
From director Mark Waters, this update, a gender-bent response to 1999’s iconic She’s All That, features a young influencer who, due to the live broadcast of a messy breakup with her budding rock-star boyfriend, loses her sponsorship (and is outed as the poor girl she truly is). The only way to get her sponsor back and save face is to prove she’s the makeover queen, able to make over any boy at their school the way she sculpted her ex’s image.
While the cast features a number of familiar faces and voices, this is not only Addison Rae’s film, it’s her first film. As her character Padgett Sawyer, the real-world TikTok celeb leads the familiar story through all the right beats, accompanied by pop-up chat windows and emojis that represent the presence of social media in the lives of all but Cameron Kweller (played by Tanner Buchanan), the object of Padgett’s make-over efforts.
Here’s a look at the cast, including some blink-or-you’ll-miss-it cameos of other influencers among the cast members…

Addison Rae as Padgett Sawyer
Although this is Rae’s first full-length feature, she is no stranger to the camera. She began her career as a dancer, who in 2019 launched a TikTok channel featuring her dance takes on popular songs. At only 20, the Louisiana celeb is worth over $5 million and has more than 83.4 million followers on TikTok (far more than her character in the film). Rae has her own merchandise line, but has also endorsed brands including Chantilly Boutique, Cheapskate, FashionNova, McCrary Jewelers, and Uptown. (It seems doubtful that she relies on any of them for corporate sponsorship, the way Padgett relies on sponsor Bunny Venom, given her per-video payout rate on TikTok and the reports of what she brings in monthly on YouTube.)
Character Padgett is known for her makeover how-tos (some of which give bad advice, such as using toothpaste to reduce pimples), and in fact Rae’s very first YouTube video was showing how to do hair and makeup. Another is a Q&A with her 2020 flame, Bryce Hall. But more of her videos on both YouTube and TikTok feature music, and in addition to the requisite teen movie dance numbers featured in He’s All That, Rae does an excellent karaoke in the film with co-star Buchanan.

Bryce Hall‘s Cameo
Speaking of Bryce Hall, Rae’s fellow TikTok star (21 million followers) makes a cameo in the film. Hall’s career as an influencer began when he livestreaming on YouTube at age 15 in an effort to make friends after being bullied. The social media influencer moved from Maryland to Los Angeles and joined TalentX Entertainment’s Sway House to create content for multiple platforms.
In the film, Hall has no lines, but commiserates with Padgett’s ex, Jordan Van Draanen (Peyton Meyer) about girls. In the scene, Van Draanen soulfully mourns that the girl he dumped Padgett for has ghosted him, then asks his friends (including Hall) if they caught all that on camera. (By the time of the film release, Hall and Rae were no longer together, which may make viewers curious how Hall now feels about that scene…)

Spencer X as the DJ
TikTok viewers may also catch the cameo of Beatboxer Spencer X as the DJ behind the karaoke competition. With over 54 million followers, the sound effects champ (who includes the label Mouth Music Man on his site) also has two singles of beatboxing and remixed vocals available on Spotify.

A post shared by Kourtney Kardashian (@kourtneykardash)
Kourtney Kardashian as Jessica Miles Torres
While Kardashian needs no introduction, this real-life friend of Rae’s takes on the role of Padgett’s sponsor, an exec at Bunny Venom, who fires Padgett when her image goes wrong. Kardashian became a reality star in 2007’s Keeping up with the Kardashians and is involved in fashion along with her sisters. Due to her popular presence on social media, Kardashian is regularly compensated by brands for featuring their products in her posts. She has also helmed the lifestyle website, Poosh.

A post shared by Tanner Buchanan Official (@tannerbuchananofficial)
Tanner Buchanan as Cameron Kweller
Coming from a more traditional acting background, Buchanan plays an artist who has no interest in the falseness of the high school world (and gives out sage words of wisdom)–though deep inside, he’s still mourning the loss of his mother and feel disconnected from his family and friends until Padgett breaks through his armor. Viewers might recognize him from TV series like Game Shakers or Designated Survivor, but the martial arts skills he shows off in He’s All That might be better attributed to the set of Cobra Kai, another Netflix production (after its first two seasons on YouTube Red) in which he plays Robby Keene.
Peyton Meyer and Madison Pettis
Padgett has two antagonists in the film: ex Jordan Van Draanen (Meyer) and rich girl frenemy Alden (Madison Pettis). Meyer is known for Girl Meets World and American Housewife, while Pettis made her name as Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s daughter in The Game Plan on the Disney Channel. If her voice is familiar, it may be because the He’s All That mean girl also played animated characters including Izzy in Jake and the Neverland Pirates and Zuri in The Lion Guard.
Myra Molloy and Annie Jacob
This 2021 update to the classic teen movie features a secondary romance between two queer girls of color—Padgett and Cameron’s besties who hit it off, despite their social strata differences. LEGO fan Nisha is played by Annie Jacob, known for her role as Glory Moffett on Motherland: Fort Salem. Sweetheart rich girl Quinn is played by relative newcomer Myra Molloy.
Matthew Lillard as Principal Bosch
In the 1999 film She’s All That, Lillard played an obnoxious reality star who steals the girlfriend of the main character, played by Freddie Prinze Jr (also Lillard’s co-star in Scooby Doo). Lillard isn’t shown for most of He’s All That, as only his voice is featured for the majority of the movie, until the final scene, in which he’s revealed to be the principal of the high school.
Rachel Leigh Cook as Anna Sawyer
She’s All That lead star Cook comes back not as her original character, but as Padgett’s mom, who is a nurse working hard to keep them in the best school district. As the film comes to a close, a remix of the song “Kiss Me” plays at the school dance–a direct call back to the original film, which used that as the main theme. Cook’s recent Love, Guaranteed was another Netflix Original.
cnx.cmd.push(function() { cnx({ playerId: "106e33c0-3911-473c-b599-b1426db57530", }).render("0270c398a82f44f49c23c16122516796"); });
While He’s All That offers no surprises, the cameos and callbacks to the original film make this teen movie enjoyable as exactly what it is: a familiar tale with the usual happy ending, updated for a new audience.

Shallow Graves for Hallucinated Rats
Whumptober 8 - Where did everybody go? - Abandoned/Isolation
continuing on after this scene. Cameo by @knivestothroats character Javi
Content Warnings: claustrophobia, self harm, drug use mention, hallucinations, loss of control
The door closed, sealing him into the dark. Four walls of concrete. No windows. He was certain wherever the toadie had dragged him, it was underground. Beneath the casino.
He recollected himself from being thrown in and raced towards the already sealed door, throwing his full weight against the solid metal. His shoulder throbbed in pain. “Let me out! I’ll die in here! I’ll die in here!” Jackal screamed, slamming the heel of his boot against the door. It didn’t budge.
Jackal felt a heavy weight on his chest. He couldn’t breathe. It wasn’t the darkness. It was the box. It was the thought of how much dirt was between him and the surface. Practically buried alive. The ceiling held steady above him with no hint that it would cave in, yet he felt its pressure weighing down on him.
The room felt like it was getting smaller. Jackal curled in the corner, making himself smaller as well. He couldn’t catch his breath. The air in the room was no longer viable. He was going to die. Or not going to die. Death didn’t exist for the undead - or if it did, he had yet to figure out how.
The box was timeless. It was always night in the box. Jackal had little clue to how long he had been there, but soon after being thrown in, the hunger began. It bore through him like a hole in his gut. Blood. He needed blood.
Sometimes the shadows looked like skittering rats. He’d take their diseased blood over the emptiness gaping in his gut. Jackal scrambled for the shadows on hands and knees. They disintegrated between his fingers.
Hunger infected his throat, burned like the worst itch. He wanted to dig his nails in and shred it apart.
What he wouldn’t do for a fix. Just a hit of morphine. Keep him sedated and numb. No release was to come. He was convinced he had been abandoned. They threw him down here. Dusted their hands off and called it a day. How long ago did that happen?
Sometimes he heard voices outside. Whispers like fly wings buzzing in his ears. He couldn’t decipher their words or meaning. If they were even real. Sometimes they sounded like Coyote or Horse. Sometimes he believed his brother and old gang member were plotting to kill him. They were both dead, the last grain of sanity told him. He wished they weren’t. He wished they’d fulfill the promise their ghost whispers told him.
He felt something crawl on his arm. Jackal bared teeth and attacked with a growl. His fangs sunk into his own skin. His blood tasted like salt water as it dripped onto his tongue. His jaw clenched. Teeth digging deeper. His own blood could do nothing for the hunger that hollowed out his throat, but the pain felt right.
He ripped the chunk of flesh from his arm, spat it back onto the floor. He growled at the darkness, imagining figures standing there. Nisha. Clem and Mabel. He heard their laughter. So much for being a part of the Coven. As much as he had tried to put distance between himself and Nisha, she would always own him. That was the whole reason he was here, afterall. This damned casino had bad blood with Nisha.
He slammed his head against the concrete wall, trying to get the figures to disappear. Their laughter became warped. He did it again, this time with more aggression. His own blood overwhelmed his senses. Jackal was persistent. Another whack, and he heard a crack in the depth of his skull. The figures were gone. The hunger subsided as his sense went wishy-washy. He slumps onto the floor. Complete disorientation. He felt like he was floating. The darkness encased him fully. He was floating in a void for all he knew. Finally, something nearly as good as morphine.
He wished it could’ve been permanent.
His brain and skull fixed themselves, as his body always did. The hunger returned at full force. His every thought consumed with the need to feed. His thoughts obsessed over every feeding he had experienced before. Warm blood across his tongue. The way skin pulsed against his lips. It did nothing to sate him.
He paced the small box. Shadowed rats skittered at his feet. He had long given up on chasing them. Whispers tickled at his ears. He didn’t bother to tune into them anymore.
And then, something unusual happened.
The door opened.
His head snapped towards the door. He saw the shadowed outline of someone standing there. Was it the same man who had thrown him down here in the first place? The toadie? Jackal didn’t care. He’d rip his throat out regardless.
He was rushing towards him, ready to attack, when he heard the sound of skin hitting concrete. His nostrils flared at the smell. Blood. Human blood.
Damn his all consuming hunger buying the figure time to seal the door once again as Jackal turned tail towards the human. He was on him faster than the human would be able to comprehend what was happening to him.
He threw the man against the wall. Hissed and bared fang. His eyes, two bloody red windows into his damned soul that was a prisoner to his need for blood.
His prey wouldn’t get the chance to fight back. Quick and painless. Jackal snapped his neck with a rough turn of his head. The body slunk to the ground. Jackal dug his fangs in, drank with all the fervor that came with starving. It wasn’t clean or gentlemanly. Blood splattered on his clothes and onto the floor, wasted. If the neck break didn’t kill him, the draining would.
He left the body on the other side of the box. He licked all excess from his hands, like a cat. Finally, sated.
He wondered how long until the body began to rot.
Skittering shadowy rats. They squeezed beneath the door and escaped to the part of the bunker that was furnished. Whispers. Whispers.
Someone draws a breath.
The human stands and rights his neck. Jackal blinks. A ghost, he is certain.
“Sorry about that, partner, but at least it was fast,” He spoke to the ghost. “Better than bein’ trapped down here. Heart still beating.”
“Where are we?” The man asked. Jackal shrugged.
“Some bunker. Beneath the casino.”
“The Inferno?” The man said. Jackal blinked.
“Yeah. I believe that is what it was called.” He could still smell the man’s blood, as if his heart was continuing to beat. “What’d you do to cause them to put you down here with me? Can’t imagine they decided to feed me after all this time.”
“I...I don’t know,” The man answered. Jackal could hear his heart beat a little bit faster, like people did when they lied during blackjack. Jackal’s eyes narrowed.
“I’ve lost my head and am talking to a corpse, ain’t that right, partner?” Jackal said.
I believe so.” More heartbeats in staccato. The man sat on the floor, looking dizzy from being drained. Jackal, however, was feeling better than he had since he had last been upstairs. He stood over the man, then grabbed him by his hair.
“If you a ghost, then why can I touch you?” Jackal asked. He looked down into his brown eyes. Jackal grinned. “Well damned be, if you’re still alive, then they’re going to have ta feed you at some point. Meaning I could still have a chance at escape! I could just about damn kiss you on the lips. Might even enjoy it too, pretty thing that you are. Lot of needs gone unmet for a long time down here.” He released his hold on the man’s hair.
“And will...I escape too?” the man asked. Jackal was loyal to no one, cept his brother. His brother who was dead. It stood to reason it would be easier to let the man take the fall for him. Most realistically, that is what would happen. But, it was better not to put all of your cards on the table. He smiled at the man.
“It could be a beautiful thing to have someone like you owe a debt to someone like me. You hear?” Jackal replied, with his empty promises. He moved to his own corner of the box and sat back down. “Let me know when the color returns to your cheeks. Been a looong time since I last fed. Might need a little booster in a bit.” He noticed the way the man grimaced, but knew with vampires, he really had no options.

Actresses I wish SRK worked with (this includes either in more films or better ones than they were given):
Vidya Balan: This one is a no brainer. She's one of the best actresses around and would look amazing with SRK. I would love to see them in a quirky mature romance. Someone give them a good script asap!!!
Sushmita Sen: They sizzled in Main Hoon Na but were unfortunately wasted in Dulha Mil Gaya. These two make such a hot pair and should have done more movies together! I'm still mad about this. Sushmita is so classy. She's beautiful, intelligent, and very eloquent. She held her own against SRK in MHN. Remember Tumhe Jo Maine Dekha? They set the screen on FIRE!
Lara Dutta: She's lovely and criminally underrated. I also think she's a good actress. She looked better with SRK in Don 2 than Priyanka did, sorry not sorry (I'm a hater).
Sonali Bendre: In my humble opinion, she is one of the most beautiful women I've ever seen. Sonali is a great actress and amazing dancer, but has done a lot of terrible movies. She was barely in Duplicate, but definitely stood out. English Babu Desi Mem was awful though she was the only saving grace. I wish they had a cute romantic movie with lovely songs.
Urmila Matondkar: I loveloveloved Chamatkar. Urmila and SRK had fantastic chemistry and looked super cute together. I wish they were paired opposite each other more! Urmila as the bubbly spunky girl alongside innocent naive SRK was just adorable.
Karisma Kapoor: Justice for Nisha is all I'm going to say. Also, Karisma's cameo in Deewangi Deewangi was just electrifying. Idk why these two were never paired with each other again. They would have made a gorgeous jodi.
*Special Mentions: As always, I would love it if SRK did more films with my ultimate queen Juhi Chawla. And I so wish Divya Bharti could have done DDLJ (did you know she was the original choice?) because she would have suited Simran much better. She was so beautiful and paired well with SRK.
In conclusion, I hate that SRK worked with the same actresses over and over again when he could have been paired with these ladies instead. I swear to God...if he does another movie with Katrina or Anushka, I'm going to scream.

Welcome to the Mysterious Mansion
https://youtu.be/gVlaxSh93wE
Elsword: Hi! Now we're going to show you a short film we made.
Aisha: We made it so we can submit it for the upcoming Elrios Film Festival.
Rena: Even though it IS a horror film, there's no gore or scary scenes, so don't worry.
Raven: It was directed by... someone who calls himself "Dekal the Greatest Up-and-coming Director."
Rena: He was a little weird, but he sat on a big fancy chair shouting things like "Cut!" and "Action!" so it looked like he knew what he was doing.
Aisha: People who laugh weird tend to be pretty good at what they do. Kind of like Add?
Elsword: Anyway, sit back and enjoy the hottest actor-idols Elstars' newest movie: Mysterious Elrios Mansion!
Welcome to the Mysterious Mansion...!
On a stormy night, a mysterious mansion showed itself in front of me while I was wandering through a forest.
As if I was bewitched by something, I opened its doors and went inside.
Excuse me, is the master of the house here?
Elsword: Who're you? Why did you get in here?
Elsword: Did you even know where this is before you entered?
Elsword: Hmm? You want to stay until the rain passes?
Elsword: Are you sure you're not going to regret that?
Elsword: Suit yourself.
Elsword: Well anyway, my name is Elsword. I'm a maid of this mansion.
Elsword: Wait! You're sopping wet from the rain - if you move around like that, the wooden floor's going to get all water-stained.
Elsword: Wait right there and don't move!
Rena: I'm head butler of this mansion, Rena.
Rena: You look like a guest. Allow me to give you a tour of the place.
Rena: Shall we start with the dining hall?
I'm getting dizzy all of a sudden...
Lu: Welcome.
Lu: In this mansion, I'll be sure to serve you the finest cuisine that you will never forget.
Lu: Ah, there you are, Ciel.
Lu: Hasn't it been a while... since we last had a guest who was this fresh?
Ciel: You're right. We better give them something very delicious then.
Ciel: Here, try this appetizer first.
Ciel: I took an incredibly adorable and fresh hedgehog, alive...
Ciel: ...to pick these tomatoes with me to make this dessert.
Ciel: He even helped with the decoration...
Ciel: Of course, while he was still alive.
Ciel: Surprised?
Ciel: He's alive even as we speak, so you can eat this without any worry.
Just what is this place
Laby: Are you the guest?
Laby: I heard we had a guest over, so I went out to get something delicious!
Laby: Tada! Take a look! Nisha caught it for me!
Laby: Nisha's my friend - she can catch quick things alive in a flash!
Laby: Isn't she great?
Laby: There... are times when she can't capture them alive, but...
Laby: But they're still fresh!
Laby: Hmm? No, Nisha.
Laby: We better keep the guest alive.
AHH! I have to get out of here!
Raven: Ah, you must be that guest.
Raven: Why are you here?
Raven: We're currently in the process of burning off the old stained floor of the hallway to lay down new ones.
Raven: They're wood, so they stain dark red too easily.
Raven: I think we should use red ones so any possible new stain won't be as noticeable.
Raven: Hmm? Ah, d-don't tell me you thought I was talking about bloodstain?
Raven: It's, uh, actually...
Raven: Ah, yes, it's watercolor.
Raven: Our master is fond of the color red, you see.
YOU EXPECT ME TO BELIEVE THAT?!
Elesis: Raven! If you're done with cleaning up the hallway, let's go make a window in the room on the 3rd floor.
Elesis: Oh, what's the guest doing here?
Elesis: Why are you all sweating?
Elesis: Do you need a ventilation hole too? Want me to make one for you?
Raven: Hmm, sounds better than being contaminated. I agree with this idea.
Elesis: Right? Good, good. Let's see... Where should we make this hole?
AHHH! GO AWAY!
GET AWAY FROM ME!!!
Ara: Huh? Why are you running in the hallway?
Ara: Did something happen?
Ara: Don't be scared. Calm down and go into that room over there.
Ara: If I see you wandering around alone without one of our maids or butlers...
Ara: I'll personally send you to the abyss myself.
T_T SAVE ME
Add: Wh-what are you?! Why did you get in here?! What are you staring at?!
Add: Calm down, Add. You're scaring the guest.
Add: Tch...
Add: Hey, guest-brat.
Add: Stop snooping around and stay put right there.
Add: We're still cleaning off the traces of the previous guest.
Add: You don't want to leave only traces of you like this... Do you?
Aisha: There's no need to be scared. Just take a seat and wait.
Aisha: Hmm, but I can't find where the other shoe went...
Add: Hmph, what are you going to do with the shoe?
Aisha: Well, of course, we have to get rid of the evidence...
No... My mind is... getting hazy... Am I... going to die like this...?
Eve: Excuse me... Excuse me?
Eve: You must've been exhausted. You dozed off in the middle like that. How impressive.
Eve: From now, I, the Nasod Butler, will serve you.
Eve: This is the cable for charging power.
Eve: We'll provide you with enough power, so fully charge up your energy before you go.
Eve: Now, if you'll sit quietly, I can help you with the charging.
N...NOOOOOO!!!
Chung: Excuse me, can you stand back for a bit?
Chung: I'm trying to aim my destroyer to trim some of the trees, but the firepower is too strong...
Chung: If you stay too close, you might turn to dust.
I NEED TO GET OUT OF HERE!!!
Ain: Are you okay?
Ain: Your hands and legs are shaking. You must be terribly frightened.
Ain: Calm down. I've no intention of scaring you.
Ain: The humans in this place can be a bit mischievous, I must say.
Ain: You must've been through a lot.
Ahh... To think there's a normal person left in a place like this.
Ain: But... you ignored what Elsword said, wandered around everywhere on your own, and stumbled into the garden without permission...
Ain: Do you want to die, dear guest?
Ain: Haha, I'm just kidding.
...!!!
Rose: Ain, I don't think that kind of joke is appropriate for our frightened guest.
Rose: Allow me to guide you from here on out. Please come this way.
Ain: Okay. I was about to get tired of this anyway.
Rose: Don't think of doing anything stupid - just keep looking forward and walk.
Can... Can I make it out of here alive...?
Just what IS this house?
It feels like the only sane person was the red-head from the beginning.
I HAVE TO FIND HIM!
THANK GOODNESS!
I FINALLY FOUND HIM!
Elsword: Eh? What are you doing out here? It's hard to find you this way.
See, actually, these people were trying to...
Elsword: What's with the look on your face? You're the one who invited yourself in.
Elsword: I did ask if you were sure you're not going to regret it.
Even... you...
When I came to, I was lying down on the floor of the mansion's lobby, alone.
What happened...?
My memory escapes me as if it was a dream.
Excuse me. Is the master of the house here?

What’s better than that green, green money? Miquela’s cheeky teasing pop, that’s what! Miquela, more widely known as her Instagram persona LIL Miquela, serves up a bubbly plinking pop gem in her latest single Money, whose music video (directed by Charlotte Rutherford) has been viewed nearly half a million times already since it dropped a few weeks ago. A bevy of internet celebrities and other artists make welcome cameos in it too, including Sophie Meiers, Josephine Lee, Alanna Pearl, Zuri Marley, and more. Money features Chris Wallace and Nisha Asnani on production and writing duties, respectively. The left-field pop singer spoke on the origins of the songs, noting: "I make music because it makes me feel less alone (and because it convinces Lyft drivers to give me their aux cords). That's why I share it with you! Hopefully it can help you feel less alone, too.Money is made-up, but love isn't!! That's why I wrote [Money] about spending $20 on a pressed juice for your crush because they're looking extra cute that day. Also, it's a bop - so there's that too!" Stream or download Money, here.

New from Every Movie Has a Lesson by Don Shanahan: MOVIE REVIEW: The High Note
(Image: indiewire.com)
THE HIGH NOTE– 2 STARS
Matching what decades of movies and TV shows have characterized about personal assistants, cinematic commandments stipulate that Dakota Johnson’s character Maggie in The High Note must work for demanding and vain people and carry an clear-as-day inner ambition to seek her own fame. Those same narrative tendencies urge us to pooh-pooh the former and root for the latter. We are supposed to love that brand of “started from the bottom” underdog moxie.
However, each time Maggie’s employers, the fictional world-renowned recording artist Grace Davis played by Blackish’s Tracee Ellis Ross and her manager Jack Robertson played by Ice Cube, summarily dismiss her to stay in her lane or fetch some inconsequential thing, The High Note gets better because the real talent is allowed to emerge. To love underdog moxie, or any moxie for that matter, you have to have it. The flimsy Dakota Johnson doesn’t. She, and the movie opening on VOD May 29th, would be better served by her getting out of the way just like her shunned and devalued Maggie.
You’ve seen this type working a gateway to a dream job. Maggie Sherwood is a fantasizer surrounded by those with more in superior clout. Daughter of a radio DJ (an extended cameo from Bill Pullman) she, with her beater classic car, fringe jacket, and old soul encyclopedic knowledge of the music industry, works as the tireless personal assistant to an 11-time Grammy-winning legend. Grace Davis is hitting middle age making easy money off of a live “greatest hits” album and its connected national tour. She is entertaining the prospect of a multi-year residency in Las Vegas, a bankable move brokered and pushed by the cranky Jack.
LESSON #1: “WHEN THERE ARE NO SURPRISES, THEN WHO ARE YOU DOING IT FOR”— That line is ever-present realization Grace seeks to avoid. Naturally, she is at a creative crossroads and has the itch to do something new. Behind the scenes and after work hours, the ambitious Maggie has been taking a deep remixing dive into Grace’s catalogue of hits. She feels like she has producing ideas better than the usual and forgettable scheduling and shopping advice of her typical job duties. Maggie urges Grace towards a new album with new material, a business surprise Jack and the circling army of marketing suits are against.
LESSON #2: THE ROLE OF A MUSIC PRODUCER— Pause for a second. Raise your hand if you know what a music producer does? According to this movie, you push a few buttons, slide a few levelers, tinker on a computer occasionally, nod to a beat when it suits you, and give some notes on an intercom while songs are being recorded. Instead of going off of The High Note, go look at the full job description instead and then marvel how Maggie could possibly hurdle all of the ladder rungs before her and do all of that. No one is buying the “seen enough to try” line, Miss Sherwood.
Press play. If only “urge” could be more “clamor.” Tracee Ellis Ross and Dakota Johnson are positioned in moments away from the mania and managers to have sincere conversations on music, legacies, arrogances, and aspirations meant to shift and forge each other’s confidences. Ross holds up her end. In those handful of scenes, she exudes the gravity of age and grace befitting her role. And when the lights are on and the crowd is loud, she’s even better. Johnson and her flatness cannot match that whatsoever. You follow her journey as the lead in The High Note and carry no rooting interest.
Where this movie finds its spark is where Maggie finds a coinkydink of a personal and professional one of her own. After a pick-up artist setup, the Sam Cooke-shining pipes of the unsigned David Cliff, played by white-hot emerging actor Kelvin Harrison Jr. of Waves and Luce, blow her synthesizers and her socks off. Maggie passes off her inexperienced chops and convinces the flirtatious David to let her improve and produce his original songs into a portfolio worthy of a new artist.
LESSON #3: THE SPINE OF A SONG— The most passionate this film gets is when the microphones are hot and the lyrics provided by music supervisor Linda Cohen are sung. The warmest the cold bucket of water that is Maggie gets is when she speaks of the internal heart rhythms that create the “spine of a song” more than hooks or beats. Life has to come out in art and that’s the headiest truth this movie can muster.
Go from pause to stop this time. Kelvin Harrison Jr. steals this entire movie. If all you have seen of Kelvin (and you need to) is his outstanding dramatic acting over the last few years, come marvel at his never-before-seen musical ability, honed by a youth spent with the Marsalis jazz family. Goodness gracious, this young man is special! Here he is at a mere 25, slaying choice parts, playing instruments, belting out harmonies, flooring us all, and rivaling both his idols and contemporaries for sheer talent. If Kelvin keeps this up, we’re going to be saying “Will who?,” “Jamie who?,” and “Denzel who?” someday. He’s that damn good already.
Kelvin Harrison Jr. joins Tracee Ellis Ross as the true flair and excitement you want to watch in The High Note, directed by Late Night’s Nisha Ganatra from a reclaimed 2018 Black List screenplay by debuting writer Flora Greeson. Every time they step forward, the movie shines. Instead, their wattage is filtered through milquetoast tropes of stepping stone laments, sell-out pushback, forced romances, career lies, and small-world bow-tying conveniences you’ve seen too many times and in better places. With that kind of talent, diverse examples at that, present in front of Maggie (yet behind Dakota in billing), there was a stage primed for performing and exploring true individual and industry challenges, not those little bumps delivered through the lead’s uninspiring presence. Once again, Maggie (and Dakota), get out of the way. Give us the real potential power.

Diplo Isn't Happy Nicolas Cage Landed Joe Exotic Role In New "Tiger King" Spin-Off
Does this mean Diplo will retire the cowboy hat?
Diplo had fans laughing with approval back on April Fool's Day with his campaign to play Joe Exotic in the scripted rendition of the Tiger King series. There's no denying the similarities between the two in their hair color, passion for music, and notoriety, so when news broke that the role would instead be going to none other than Nicolas Cage, Diplo made sure to reignite the fandom with his disapproval.
According to a report by Variety, the eight-episode series will be produced by Imagine Television Studios and CBS Television Studios and will be based on the Texas Monthly article "Joe Exotic: A Dark Journey Into the World of a Man Gone Wild," by Leif Reigstad. It comes after the Netflix series Tiger Kingtook the nation by storm, raising the curtain on the wild world of big cat trading and the characters behind it.
While Diplo is an enigmatic character in his own right, seeing the Academy Award winner Cage portray the hooligan that is Joe Exotic will be an experience in itself. Not one to stay in a single lane, Diplo will still continue to boost his acting credentials with a cameo in the new film The High Note, featuring Tracee Ellis Ross, Dakota Johnson, Ice Cube, and Kelvin Harrison Jr. and directed by Nisha Ganatra (Transparent).
