I can’t stop thinking about Eddie Dear y’all.
First off, the probable reason behind what had occurred to him is most likely due to him being scrapped/taken off the script of the show is just both saddening and dreadful on his part. Like he exists within the realm of the Neighborhood, but considering his absence throughout the recent update, aside from him giving the viewers a decoder + clips of him throughout the Home-warming ad compilation, its safe to say that Playfellow Workshop had most likely taken off him of the show, or at the very least, lessening the amount of screen time he receive (in this case being the ads/commercials).
And now onto the actual possible reason why Eddie Dear would be taken off script. Now thinking back to the fact that Eddie & Frank being a couple is canon, it’s also safe to say that because of their connection in the show — even though Playfellow Workshop attempts to have them be distant or lack any sort of significant interaction onscreen — Eddie & Frank’s relationship, or at least Eddie’s love for Frank, could certainly be the reason why the he was taken off script.
After all, if two male characters are shown to be gay for each other in a kids show from the 1970s, chances are Playfellow Workshop would rather scrap the homosexual (derogatory) mailman character than have Welcome Home be taken off the air entirely just because of said mailman character.
Furthermore, what’s more interesting and ironic about Eddie being a prominent character who became intensively aware of his situation is the fact that he first appears to be a character who could be considerably perceived as“insignificant” or “irrelevant.” Of course I don’t actually think he is, but from the way Playfellow Workshop and the Homewarming commercials are framed Eddie, it can be interpreted that Eddie is seen as a rather character of little relevance.
It is partially due to him being taken script, but it’s also the fact that his only thing going on for him is being the mailman for the neighborhood — as well as a bit of a comedic relief. Eddie said himself in the Homewarming video from the secret site — if I’m correct, he feels that nobody appreciates him enough for his work (though correct me if I’m wrong). And that since there’s no one there to ask him to deliver something, or call, or check up on him, he feels as though that — somewhere inside of him — he feels both left out and “irrelevant.”
His one role is to be the neighborhood delivery man, and without that, then what exactly would he be good for?
(this could further be emphasized when Sally told him that they made the deliveries for him to give him a day off — even though no one told him that, and chances are this is perhaps Sally trying to reassure him when in reality, he was just scripted out of Homewarming hence why no one came to talk to him. Getting lil off topic oops—).
Recircling back to the original topic, yada yada yada Eddie just being a mailman and besides that he views himself to be irrelevant so on and so forth.
One thing I would like to mention, relating to Eddie being the probable first of the group to become aware other than Wally, is that I find it surprising that Eddie Dear IS the probable first to become aware like Wally.
To tell y’all the truth, I didn’t think he would play such a significant role in the Narrative (and thus probably doomed by it too). I would have least thought Frank or Julie would have been next to become the more Self Aware.
But Eddie Dear? Our loveable, friendly, and reliable mailman — Eddie Dear? Suddenly depersonalizing right on the spot with a pea plate and becoming aware of both his sentience, the weirdness of his setting overall, and how he could hear Home’s heartbeat? How he knew that the moment he comes to this revelation of self-awareness, he can’t go back? That everything he has ever known is most probably not real and/or all a lie?
It just has me stopping for a second on why and how him, but after thinking about it furthermore, alongside reading analysis posts, it would make sense for him to be next on why he had become Aware.
And I can only assume that from here on out, things are bound to change. And I for one fear these colorful lil puppets — particularly Eddie in this case.
Lets just hope the existential dread doesn’t drive all of them over the edge.
#welcome home#welcome home spoilers#welcome home eddie#eddie welcome home#eddie dear#this lil mailman is jingling in my head like a marble#poor guy :(( i have a feeling smth bads about to happen to him and frank#but at the same time IM EATING THIS SHIT UP

Lestat, for example, literalizes the African-American belief that white European slavers were cannibals, feeding on enslaved flesh. In Rice’s novel, Lestat actually initiates Louis into vampirism through killing and draining a fugitive slave. In the TV update, Lestat is the quintessential colorblind liberal racist, goading Louis into outbursts of rage against the constant petty insults and humiliations he faces at the hands of white New Orleans, while all the way lording it over one and all, white and Black, as the ultimate puppet master.
Louis himself confesses to his interviewer, the journalist Daniel Molloy, that Lestat was at once his maker and his lover. This taps into a particular vein of Southern fiction in which incest and miscegenation taboos overlap and bleed into each other.
The gothic twist, of course, is that what makes Lestat parent to Louis is not unacknowledged paternity through the rape and forced breeding of chattel women, as in many classic 19th-century narratives of miscegenation. Instead, it is the direct bite of the male vampire, which here serves as a queer allegory for reproduction between men. Or, more nearly, as sex without reproduction, only a risk of contagion.
We can go further. If we look for a name for what the gothic can do to unlock the dark recesses of sexuality and racism in the American nightmare, we should speak of the hystericization of race. Hystericization names the process of becoming hysterical, the hysteric being the one who demands to know: Why am I who you say I am? This, after all, is the question Louis asks constantly, first of Lestat and then of the aging white male journalist Molloy.
“Why am I who you say I am?” Louis demands of the world. At first, he does rage against the system; it is his brash spirit that attracts Lestat’s interest. But over the course of the series, Louis is revealed to be the quintessential homosexual mark: a quick-witted, strong-willed young man of great promise, who finds himself “drained” by the overpowering malevolence of an older figure who ensures his endless torment, above all, by professing an immortal love for him. Using sex as a weapon, Lestat unmans Louis (in one scene, Lestat literally drags him from a confession booth, desecrating the church with the blood of the slain priest) and by the end of the season turns him into a simpering househusband and hovering father to their vampirically created daughter Claudia. Out of the closet and into the coffin.

Hii!!! First i want to say congratsss for ur demo, i already played it and i really like it ❤. It's really good and i can't wait for the next update!!! But really, when i checked the list of ROs. I'm actually little sad because our spouse is not there. So i want to know why??? We need to marry our royal spouse, but if we want to have romance then we need to cheat on our spouse right??? Oh how old is our spouse again? That's all! Well, have a nice day and pardon my english. ❤
Hello! Thank you so much for your feedback. I'm so glad you enjoyed it. (Also, your English is perfectly fine <3)
Now THAT is a good question, and I'm glad you asked. The MC's spouse is 29 years old, so a year younger than the MC. In their world it's controversial for nobles, especially rulers, to go unmarried for that long, so that will definitely come up in the narrative.
The rest of the answer is a bit of a spoiler, which I will supply below the cut. It will be revealed early in the story, so it's not necessarily a major spoiler, but some readers might prefer to be kept in the dark. It is also quite central to the story I'm telling, and it's related to why the player's gender is restricted to male or female. ;)
I wanted to tell a story that explores the various nuances of what a "loveless" political marriage could look like -- both the positives and the negatives. In this particular case, a romantic relationship with the spouse is not possible because the spouse is gay; this is part of why they have put off marriage for so long, but the pressure has been real. You will soon also discover that they have a secret lover, and you are able to develop platonic relationships with both the spouse and their lover. Through your choices and interactions, you get to decide whether those relationships are close or distant, positive or negative.
You'll even be able to, for instance, pursue a friendship with your spouse's partner but a rivalry with your spouse. You can mix it up! It's up to you and what kind of character you want to play.
Due to the spouse's own relationship, they are completely fine with the MC pursuing relationships elsewhere... on the condition that it's kept under the radar, like the spouse's relationship.
Another note: While homosexuality and bisexuality are not criminalized in this world, and same-sex couples are allowed to marry, that freedom doesn't extend to those of noble birth due to the expectation of preserving bloodlines and securing political alliances via marriage. This will also be explored more in detail, and an MC with enough power and sway may be able to change things... it all depends on how you play!

a welcome home prattle from my mind
so I've been on the Welcome Home train since last year but I never delved into theories about the website. mostly I've just searched from the side, talked to friends who also enjoyed it, and watched videos on it such as Night Mind. but! with the recent updates, I have to say I have sooooo many thoughts and ideas about it. with horror being my favorite genre and loving when I have the ability to research a website full of secrets, it was only a matter of time before I dived in.
so! if you're interested, here are some thoughts I have about the update and maybe some interesting theories.
also! some of these ideas are thanks to the many theories I've read here on tumblr as well as watched when Night Mind released his vod. also including findings as well!
Welcome Home belongs to the lovely @partycoffin! if you are new to this site, please read the credits page where you can find warnings!
stick around and get comfy, this is a long one.
so there is no perfect order this will all go in, so I will label what I will discuss in bold and then go from there.
Voice Warps
something that we are not strangers to is many audio recordings and their voice warps. from the last update, anytime someone tried talking to or about Wally, their voice would contort and the tape would end. this time, we received more vocal content (shoutout to the VAs they are incredible) and there was one in particular that me and many others caught on. Wally is known not to know much about emotions or how to express them. from my knowledge after many hours perusing Clown's blog, Wally is somewhat of a blank slate. learning as the show moves.
in the audio recording "Homewarming Storybook Record", during the end of this tape in the last two or so minutes, Wally says that he's sad and doesn't know why.
starting at 18:16, after Barnaby explains why he may be sad, Wally gets... frustrated. upset. he says in a clearly perturbed voice "...how can that be?" the audio warps during this time, almost as if his entire environment around him changed just by his own emotions.
why is this? we know Wally is somewhat the center of this puppet universe, and the moment he expresses a negative emotion, it's almost like the worlds stability was tilted.
as long as he is his normal and happy self, the world seems fine and at peace. yet, the moment he expresses his despair, it's like a switch flipped. it's only when Barnaby explains what the meaning of Housewarming is, which reassures Wally, that he returns to his happy and now relieved self.
Frank and Julie (TW: Homophobia)
this will be a much more sensitive topic to discuss, and as someone who is LGBT+ myself, it is not always a fun thing to research. but, I think this plays a super important role in the overall story of Welcome Home and my theories for the future.
another new edit I discovered, as well as something I've learned reading on the site and listening to audios, is the push for Frank to play a straight role. of course, this is the 70s we're talking about. the Stonewall Riots had only just happened in 1969, and homosexuality was still noted as a mental disorder. when the DSM-I was released, homosexuality was labelled as a sociopathic disorder until 1974. the idea of an LGBT+ relationship in a children's show would be unheard of.
with us knowing Eddie and Frank are romantically involved, that makes this all the more heartbreaking to know. Frank playing off his feelings by calling Eddie "Mr. Dear." Frank playing all the straight male roles alongside Julie. Sally calling Julie and Frank's costumes "a couples costume."
I find this such an interesting thing to include because not only is it eerily accurate to the timeframe, it also makes me think.
these are puppets. fictional and unthinking puppets. costumes you could even say. a person who creates the so-called fictional world of Welcome Home can control the narrative however they please because these aren't real people! of course they can be whatever you want! so... why did they create this relationship for Eddie and Frank? could it be someone within the Playfellow studio wanted to bring more positive awareness to the topic? were the actors who voiced (in this fictional world) the characters romantically involved?
or... are these puppets alive? they have their own emotions, thoughts, opinions. we know Wally is a sentient being, I mean, he literally would talk to us through the website. he reaches out to us through links, videos, audios, and even phone calls. so, does that mean EVERYONE is sentient?
in the audio "Eddie's Big Lift Storybook Record", we even hear Frank say to Eddie, "you always did work so hard." so, did they know each other in a past life? is this representative of the real life in story (fictional) voice actors?
we'll discuss this more later.
Sally Knows Something Is Out There
this is not new, as this was from the Halloween update but I wanted to include it because I feel like it's a look into the horrors of the world.
in the audio "Happy Haunting to Boo and Yours! Storybook Record", the transcript down not catch this, but Sally goes on to explain that out in the night, something lurks and waits for prey. it crawls around at night, up walls, scratching and screeching. Sally made sure to mention to ask, "why don't we go out at night?"
with her being a star from the sky, I sometimes wonders if before coming to the neighborhood she had seen it. and if not that, she mentioned if you stay quiet and stick close to the windows you can hear it. it cannot enter homes, it eats bugs if it's starving. it seems to have eaten other "neighbors." what could "it" be? some kind of creature in the night? why is it hunting them down?
Away From Prying Eyes
from all the symbols scattered on the website and with the help of the decoder in the Merchandise tab, we end up unscrambling an address.
we discover the website https://www.awayfrompryingeyes.net/ . in this site, we get to peruse "W" and their findings. now I think I can speak for a lot of people that my initial reaction was this was Wally. of course, this was dismissed rather swiftly after realizing that 1. this person was contacted by Wally and 2. they work for the project.
one thing that caught my eye quickly was the fact that the curator of the initial website became "unwell" and no one knew why. they claimed they did not know what caused them to be so unwell, or why they "created that page."
my guess is they mean the new (or in general) Welcome Home website. the curator created the new one because of Wally's interaction with it. they are trying to keep him silent, push away any suspicion. just who might this curator be?
W explains how they became Paranoid (with a capital P) once they discovered the collection of crude drawings, texts, and videos. seems to show that they are understanding that this has gone from a simple project to a unnatural phenomena.
the phone call from Wally is him talking to You (the collective You he knows) and he seems to express loneliness. "everyone is so busy during Homewarming", and he explains how quiet it is. I think he finds You to be a way to not feel so alone, as he seems to be the only sentient puppet of the crew.
well... he used to be the only one.
Commercials For Cigarettes and Pills
in the commercials, we get an array of holiday-themed music and advertisements. of course, we'll talk about the Eddie snippets, but I found a lot of disturbance with some of these. Welcome Home is a children's show, and many of the advertisements reflect that! products like cereal, music, Wally Ball and Cup, and Mama Beagle's Barnyard Eggnog. and then it gets... odd.
adults of course can enjoy this show, but it targets a young demographic. we get a commercial for Hooplah, a cigarette brand. then a commercial for Remderem, a sleeping pill.
now, this is the 70s, so maybe this could be a poor judgement marketing goal. I would not be surprised if it was a ploy for more money, but I still just find it so interesting that a children's show would advertise these. even in the merchandise tab of the project website, there's a fake pipe that blows bubbles. it all feels highly inappropriate for a child to intake this kind of material.
well, who said Playfellow was a moral brand?
Eddie Becomes Fully Sentient
we watch in real time the moment that Eddie realizes who he is.
during the commercials video, we find Eddie Dear preparing for the holidays. he starts off with a conversation with Poppy, which moved into her saying he works too much. throughout the video, we have snippets of real-life felt puppet Eddie decorating a tree, wrapping gifts, and at one point he plays multiple solo rounds of Tik-Tac-Toe.
he is wondering why no one has come to him about delivering gifts. why has no one visited him? he gets so distressed that he even slams his felt hands on the table. why has no one come to see him?
Sally resolves this by saying they did it to give him a break (which is interesting to me seeing as she tends to not give him the time of day), and she brings him to the Homewarming party. so he's surrounded by the neighbors, and in a big chair (Wally's chair, in fact) with a single pea on a plate.
and then things get weird.
Eddie starts sweating, derealization sets in. he's shown alone, single pea on a plate in hand. Home is staring back at him, and a heartbeat can be heard along with Eddie's staggered breathing. is that Eddie's heart or... Home's?
everyone's voices are disappearing in the background, Eddie is in a panic. and then things get even weirder.
Eddie looks at his arms, and they're made of felt. he taps his fingers on the arm of chair, then grips it in fear.
then the frame switches, Sally brought Frank over (was she worried about him?) to let him know that yes, she watched Eddie in the Post Office all day. Eddie is looking at his hands and legs, which are no longer felt but illustrated again. Frank calls out for him, even by his first name, and Eddie didn't even know where he was. but finally just wanted to go home.
this was the moment, that I believe Eddie discovered that he was a puppet. and he was being watched.
I find the single pea on a plate so interesting as this is the description:
"take care not to place them too close together"
why is Eddie being singled out? he was left out of many advertisements during this update, thought everyone forgot about him, and was even left out of the Homewarming story with Wally and Barnaby. they had stated they met every neighbor, but why not Eddie?
Will Eddie Be Removed?
unfortunate news seeing as he is my favorite character in the entire story (Wally and Sally a close second). I adore him, and I want nothing more than for him to remain. but I have a bad feeling he may be our first victim. he's being isolated, becoming paranoid, showing emotions that may not be seen as "neighborly."
I don't think it's any coincidence that this was an early drawing we received:
I believe Playfellow is removing Eddie, or attempting to. but for what reason? because of him and Frank? because he's not needed? that's what I'm hoping to learn more about in the next updates. because let's be frank (ha, get it?), it's not looking good for our favorite country mailman.
Ghost Thoughts and Theories
now it's time for me to ramble and yap your ear off because WOW this update was my favorite by far. I think this will happen every update honestly, but I thought it would be hard to beat the last update. this was incredible, from the animation, to the voice acting, to the crafts it was all wonderfully well done. I want every characters special item from the Homewarming wishlist!.
but now, what do I think could be happening? I have two very shaky ideas. I say shaky because these could be proven wrong easily, but if one or both is not then I can continue to build on it.
1. These friendly fellas reflect reality
so one thing I thought of is that maybe they are somehow reflecting reality. I mentioned before that maybe Eddie and Frank are their fictional voice actors (not the actual ones here in our reality!) who may be in a secret relationship. could those actors reflect their characters? are they getting rid of Eddie to represent them being torn apart?
but, this is a very meh theory. reason being that we have seen these puppets are capable of sentience. they may have their own souls, thoughts, and feeling that don't reflect a real life alive person from the 70s. but, wouldn't that be interesting?
2. Eddie's sentience was real, and his soul is about to be ripped away
there's an ongoing theory I've always juggled with in my head, the idea that these puppets have souls and a conscience. I'm genuinely led to believe this because of Wally himself. he has connected with us directly from his world. some kind of alternate reality away from hours. haunting that show.
would that mean the puppets were all real and alive people at one point? or are they completely new people all together? whatever the case, they are alive but not all of them may be aware they are in a show.
well, now Eddie is and he's in trouble.
although we aren't sure if Home truly is the villain in the story, we know that Home knows Eddie has "woken up." and he does not seem happy about it. if these puppets are alive, I fear that Eddie may be erased if he can't keep quiet. taken from the narrative for not playing his part. all he had to do was be the happy and clumsy mailman, but he had to go fall for Frank. he went and started to get frustrated and negative. he's never supposed to be the angry type, he's off script.
disfunctional.
so what's next for him?
if you made it to the end, I'm glad I could keep you around! I think this update really gets the brain gears going, lots of questions we'll get answered in the future. this story is getting better by the day, and I'm thrilled to see everything that happens in the future. and I'll get to write more posts like this!
I found everything so endearing as I do every episode, and this will be a groovy ride.

gay people with nouns as names in a cult. this is hozier
FILTHY HOMOSEXUALS THEY ARE! BURN THEM!! AT THE STAKE!! GET THEM AWAYYY FROM ME AT ONCE
@svwhssftr mandatory cult member with a noun name tag
movement by hozier. i think that’s all I have to say. saw the prompt of “cult leader x their sacrifice” somewhere I don’t even know. doing something a little free-form today. a little looser-knit narrative.
update: I got a little carried away literally just letting Crow yap so. this is half gay and half just me projecting onto Crow because I think it’s funny
Blood danced in the divinely glistening saltwater, curling in almost enticing ribbons around Mako’s pale lips. God, it burned like the pits of hell, but it was the closest thing in Dalseum to heaven.
Gale was a sacrifice, sure, but he was more than willing to forsake his body for the unrestricted power of his lover. His hands tightened around Mako’s neck as he hauled his aching body upward. He tasted his own blood on Mako’s lips, its rusty, tangy sweetness melting into the water rising above them. Mako ran his claw-like gloves through Gale’s drenched hair, droplets of water speckling his drained face.
“Kiss me again,” Gale breathed, his vision blurring.
“I don’t want to hurt you.” Mako kissed the fang marks left on Gale’s neck.
“You won’t hurt me, love.”
A second wave crashed into them as Mako sank his teeth into Gale’s exposed shoulder, the smell of blood inducing him into some feral fit. He brushed Gale’s wounds with his lips before lifting him from the water, sand rising into swarms of dust around their feet.
Gale lifted his quivering hand to his neck, the blood dripping around his neck glinting in the full moonlight. “Did it work?”
The blood staining Mako’s hands and nose reflected the deep blue of the ocean around them. His answer was another kiss. He lifted Gale’s unstable form and spun him in the piercingly bright moonlight, the thin shawl carelessly strewn across his bare skin soaking wet.
The scene was much less romantic when Mako recalled it to the members of The Order of the Fin the morning afterward with the unconscious, sand-covered body of Gale— or, rather, The Sacrifice— stretched across his arms.
“So, he’s dead?” The Oracle asked, prodding at the scabbed wounds across The Sacrifice’s neck.
“He’s not dead, God, no!” Mako explained.
“You took him out to the ocean just to bite him?” The Archivist asked, chugging his third straight Redbull of the morning. “Could you not have done that somewhere sanitary?”
“My whole shtick is that I’m, like, an ocean god,” Mako awkwardly said, stumbling over his words. “I thought it would be kind of badass, I guess. To sacrifice my lover underneath the moonlight in the ocean, or whatever.”
“That’s so fucking corny.” The Archivist blinked his heavy eyes.
“Yeah, in hindsight, it was probably lame.” Mako stared down at his feet and twisted his heel back and forth.
“He’s not ‘your lover;” he’s some random twink who just stumbled upon here because my pocket watch decided to act up,” The Archivist sighed.
“Who are you to deny our almighty Prince his affections?” The Oracle said.
“Yeah, you’re probably jealous of him,” The Archivist mumbled. “Fuckin’ predator, that’s what you are.”
“What was that?” The Oracle asked, narrowing their striking eyes.
“Oh, nothing,” The Archivist said. “It’s just a little odd that your whole job is to suck up to some guy who’s barely eighteen. Don’t you think so, Mako?”
“I’m literally a god,” Mako said. “Crow, that’s what worship is.”
“Who’s that?” The Oracle sharply asked, swiftly elbowing Mako. He nearly dropped The Sacrifice’s lifeless body.
“The… shit. Archivist? Is that what we decided?” Mako asked.
“I don’t even care.” The Archivist let his head slam down into his desk. “I haven’t slept in three days. I can’t feel my hands. I don’t know what words are anymore. I haven’t taken my meds since I don’t know when.”
“Look, I’ve performed miracles before—“ Mako started.
“Oh, miracle-schmiracle!” The Archivist exclaimed, slamming his fist into his shabby desk. “You’ve yet to do shit about my degenerative disease. Not even any miracles! Just, like, basic accommodations, man! This cult is not very inclusive!”
“I mean, you’ve never asked me to do anything,” Mako murmured.
“I don’t even have my T shots anymore! I sound even more like a prepubescent teenage boy than usual. My acne is somehow worse, and I seriously doubt you want to hear about bottom grow-“
“This clearly isn’t a transphobia thing,” The Oracle chimed in. “I’m still on estrogen. This seems like a personal issue of yours.”
“It’s because I’m Asian, isn’t it?” The Archivist aggressively pointed at both of them.
Mako and The Oracle shared a blank stare.
“How do I answer that?” The Oracle whispered.
“Don’t.” The Archivist realized his mistake after he tidied a stack of papers.
“I’ll let The Oracle take care of The Sacrifice with me today. You need to sleep, man,” Mako said.
“I can’t sleep,” The Archivist muttered. “Too much to keep up with. Now, I have The Soggy Twink or whatever to write about. What’s his name?”
“The Sacrifice,” Mako admitted, hiding his face in his robes in embarrassment.
“The Sacrifice?” The Archivist laughed. “That’s so corny, oh my god! And I thought it couldn’t get any more ridiculously queer around here.”
“Our names are reduced to our simplest role for ease,” The Oracle stated, shrugging.
“Still, The Sacrifice? What, is this some sort of cheap BL manhwa where the bottom has no role other than to be a pathetic hole-bearer? This is just fetishization, at this point. I’m not writing this.”
“What did any of those words mean?” The Oracle whispered to Mako.
“I don’t know,” Mako whispered in return.
“I mean, I understand that the genre of BL overall has a rich history of queer rights and women’s liberation in East Asia, but damn! It’s a little ridiculous, don’t you think? That this still represents us?” The Archivist dramatically spun around in his spinny chair and tossed his disgustingly pale hands into the air.
“Let’s get you to bed,” Mako said, passing The Sacrifice to The Oracle.
“Please tell me you didn’t fuck his unconscious body,” The Archivist pleaded as Mako dragged him from his seat. “Mako, please tell me—“
“He and I have done nothing remotely sexual with each other,” Mako confirmed, patting The Archivist’s head as he easily slung him over his shoulder. The Archivist did not fight back.
“See, look at you go!” The Archivist exclaimed. “Breaking stereotypes by being a freak and a virgin simultaneously.”
“And you’re not either of those?” Mako asked, beginning the trek down the stairs to The Order’s sleeping quarters.
“I’m a freak, absolutely,” The Archivist said. “And I hate to break this to you, but I have fucked your mom.”
“I don’t have—“
“Exactly!” The Archivist said, softly kicking his feet. “That’s the joke, nitwit.”
“You’re so funny,” Mako flatly said. “What would I ever do without you?”
“It’s kinda weird, though,” The Archivist said, “that your dads act like that. Like, my dad was off the walls insane, but at least it was interesting. Your dads are just horny. That’s, like, all that defines them. That must be so sad.”
“Mhm.” Mako was not listening to The Archivist’s rambling.
“See, I don’t want to write that. Anyone who does must be some sick freak with too much time on her hands. Shouldn’t she be applying for scholarships or something? Or going to bed. That would be good.”
“Sure.”
“You really didn’t fuck him?”
“Nope.”
“Why is he butt-ass naked then?”
“He had a covering.”
“I could imagine what was directly under it with little to no effort.”
“It was supposed to be dramatic and sensual, alright, man? It was supposed to be cool! A blood ritual is one of the most intimate things two beings can share,” Mako explained.
“Yeah, because me slicing your wrist open with a pocket knife was so intimate.”
“You just don’t know the power of blood rituals yet. Do you know how Charlie and Sara did theirs?”
“No.”
Mako laughed. “You don’t want to know.”
Mako kicked open his door as The Archivist stretched. “You’re letting me sleep in your bed?” The Archivist asked.
“You need somewhere comfortable, clearly.” As Mako rolled The Archivist onto his bed, he was sound asleep before Mako even rolled up his blanket to cover him.
He had one unhinged cult member taken care of. Now, he just had to reawaken his Sacrifice.

'On the surface, All of Us Strangers, directed by Andrew Haigh, is a dark and twisty love story. Underneath, there is the often-present storyline seen in queer cinema: that of trauma and tragedy.
All of Us Strangers follows lonely middle-aged gay man Adam (Andrew Scott), struggling to come to terms with his tragic past and sexuality. Adam is a screenwriter, attempting to use his craft to work through his trauma, but his solitary life is interrupted by his new neighbour Harry (Paul Mescal).
Through a dreamworld-like exploration, Adam experiences the companionship and love accepting his homosexuality would bring, all the while visiting his dead parents in an “I see dead people” Sixth Sense fashion.
Ultimately, the story ends with the realisation Harry, like Adam’s parents, was actually dead all along, and the film leaves us wondering if Adam himself is a ghost, too.
LGBTIQA+ audiences are accustomed to seeing themes of loss, grief, homophobia and tragedy play out on screen, and this film is no exception. While it explores these themes through a beautiful, haunting ghost story, gorgeous cinematography, affective music score and captivating performances, it still reinforces the narrative queer people cannot live happy lives.
Queer representation
Queer representation in mainstream media has historically been marred by negative stereotypes, tokenistic representation and death. In my recent interactive documentary, Queer Representation Matters, queer media scholars and queer screen storytellers share how queer characters are often relegated to roles characterised by tragedy or trauma, perpetuating harmful tropes like “bury your gays”.
Bury your gays is a storytelling trope that sees LGBTQI+ characters die, often to propel the story forward for a cis, heterosexual character. We can first find these stories in late 19th century literature such as Oscar Wilde’s The Picture of Dorian Gray (1890).
It gained traction in the early 20th century, in Lillian Hellman’s The Children’s Hour (1934) and Vin Packer’s Spring Fire (1956) (although she doesn’t die, just ends up institutionalised), and continues to appear in novels, plays, films and on television.
Films such as The Hours (2002), Philadelphia (2003), Brokeback Mountain (2005), A Single Man (2009) and Black Swan (2010) are all films about a queer character who suffers and dies.
You may remember some of these much-loved, yet killed-off TV characters: Villanelle from Killing Eve (2018–2022), Poussey Washington from Orange is the New Black (2013–2019) and Lexa from The 100 (2014–2020).
Online queer news site, Autostraddle, have compiled a list of the 230+ dead queer female TV characters, which continues to be updated with each death.
Essentially, for queer people, it starts to feel like you can’t have queer representation without someone dying tragically at the end.
A 2023 report from Screen Australia shows only 7.4% of main or recurring characters on Australian scripted TV from 2016–2021 were identifiably LGBTQI+, and although there have been improvements in representing more complex and inclusive queer stories on Australian television, we remain quite conservative in depicting queer sex and diverse genders.
Queer people will have different and complicated responses to queer death on screen. The result of the bury your gays trope is many queer people are left feeling that being queer means you are destined for tragedy. Witnessing another queer death on screen can make us revisit past wounds and experiences.
We need diverse stories
Tropes will always exist in storytelling, but by having more diverse queer filmmakers telling more diverse queer stories, audiences will have a more balanced narrative about queer life (and life expectancy).
So, do these themes of trauma, tragedy and queer death mean films like All of Us Strangers fall into the bury your gays trope? Not necessarily, no. Here, Harry’s death is not propelling a straight character’s story forward.
It is also necessary to have sad stories about queer characters. Stories that show the queer experience in different social and historical contexts are important to understanding the struggle for LGBTQI+ liberation.
While All of Us Strangers may reinforce the narrative queer people cannot live happy lives, there are moments of tenderness, vulnerability and hope in the film. The true value of the story lies in its creation by gay filmmaker Haigh.
When a gay man is able to tell the story his way, the story becomes more authentic.
Haigh’s ability to create truthful conversations between Adam and his parents, cross-generational romance, and the desire to heal persisting wounds, demonstrates the value of the authentic lived experience.
It is important to reflect the tragic queer lived experiences. But when these stories are saturating our big and small screens we are not seeing the alternative – the queer resilience, resistance, joy, hope, creativity, potential and triumph.
We need to see stories that challenge the narrative that being queer ultimately leads to pain, trauma and tragedy. We need to see we can also live long and happy lives, so we can believe we can have the happy ever after.'

My faith based opinions that would have be arrested by chronically online christian bloggers are that you can be feminist and be a christian, that Christ wanted women to follow him and women have always worked outside of the home and it wasn’t unbiblical. That being a pro life feminist means that we ensure the safety of women and children. That also, if your “godly” husband thinks that you dying in childbirth or from any complications in your pregnancy is something he is ok with - you need to leave him. He is demonically possessed. Demonic possession isn’t always like in the movies, you have to listen and trust god when he is guiding you and telling you to be safe ie, our gift of fear. Also christian women need to stop consuming the content from this new wave of neo trad girls when all do is say they’re anti feminists and have a mostly male audience. It’s not spiritually enriching or productive. Our faith is not a trend. It used to be edgy “anti sjw atheists” making this content, now it’s “new age traditional conservatives” using our faith as an aesthetic. It’s false and it will change again to something else.
I think I’m just talking from experience because my little sister is consuming this type of content. She changed from the ‘anti feminist anti sjw atheist’ to a ‘crystal healing reiki student using astrology and essential oils for any injury’ to finally, the ‘anti women’s rights trad wife’ despite not even having a boyfriend. I’m engaged but I’ve gotten a lot of hurtful things told to me by for wearing pants and having a job. I really hope one day she sees that all these people she watches and follows online are either grifting for money or so chronically online that they’re mentally ill and aren’t participating in society. But having a relationship with God is eternal, it will never change because he will never change.
Yeah I never understood why Christians where so defensive against "Christian feminist" but had no issue with "Christian nationalists". I mean if you think feminism has no basis on the Bible because women have to be submissive, so does nationalism because we Christians are supposed to claim only one nation that is the kingdom of God. Same for the Christian conservatives who will mock queer/LGBT Christians over the fact that homosexuality is a sin and them making a whole personality/pride around their identity, when their are themselves building their entire personality around hating the self and entertaining a whole load of sin (violence, constantly cussing people, picking fights, etc.)
There was an AITA with a woman asking if she was the asshole for shutting down her husband to have a delivery at home and without painkillers just bc his mom & sisters did it. He argued it was the only for them to "respect her" I-
Maybe it's just me but I don't consider those trad pickme as actually Christian?? like to me, they are comedians larping as Christians. They are the Christianese washed version of the girl boss. There's nothing "soft Christian girl uwu" in putting out whole videos every day. That stuff is A LOT of work and logistics. What they won't tell you is that they also have a team (editing, copywriting, social media managers, etc) which doesn't fit with the "I don't want to join the workd force and stay at home all day uwu" narrative. Just bc you're not in an office doesn't mean you're not working nor help the corporate world running - especially by hiring people. As someone who's doing vlog on the low, unless filming /editing it all day, it's impossible to regularly update video (~weekly basis) without having a team. And since those women braf about taking care of their house and child this is unlikely they are in fact filming & editing all their videos by themselves.
IDK most of those girls come off as highkey deceptive, bored and just want to flex their lavish lifestyle. In a society when accesss to work is a privilege, not having to even work seems like a luxury. Those chicks are capitalizing off of it.
That being said, I love the irony of those "anti female rights" girls. They've been to school (isn't there a middle aged trad guru who tells girl to not pursue university when she herself has a PhD? 💀), most likely own a bank account, opened their social account without asking for any male permission, wear make up..... but they will swear up and down that females rights and feminism is pointless.... Yeaaah.
I'm 100% convinced most of the girls looking up this content will grow out of this phase though. That's why I'm not too bothered by that. This trend is just the natural consequences of the millenial #girlboss thing - the girls just want to rest for a while lol You can be that in ~10 years, the pendulum will come back in, and a whole new generation of girls who had witnessed the fall from grace of these trad redpill pickme (divorced, single mother, DV, etc.) will revive the girlboss thing as a defiance to the system responsible of that situation ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Monthly reading update for February
I meant for this to be another bimonthly one, but I forgot to update it a couple weeks ago, and by the time I remembered it was almost the end of the month anyway. At the time, I was thinking "it's a short month, I've not been reading much, it'll be fine" but it turns out I actually did read a lot. So it's gonna be a long one today:
Arkady Martine - A Memory Called Empire
Spent most of this time thinking that it was just a political intrigue type book disguised as science fiction (not necessarily a bad thing, I love scheming!). The sci-fi elements are a bit more important than that, upon reflection (e.g. the imago machines play a pretty significant role), but the scheming is the real reason to read it. If you like the early chapters of Dune better than the revolution part, you probably don't need me to tell you that you need to read this. I'm definitely going to be getting the sequel next time I'm at a bookstore.
Amelia Earhart - 20 Hrs., 40 Min.
Earhart's been a longtime hero of mine, albeit one I don't think about much these days. I found this one in a box of old books I pulled out of the basement to sell to the used bookstore, and that childhood love led me to hold onto it. Sadly there's not really much of interest in there; the autobiographical part doesn't cover any ground I'd not heard before, and the supposed central event of the book (crossing the Atlantic) is handled over the course of about 5-10 pages. If you want to hear about weather keeping her trapped in Newfoundland for weeks, then maybe give it a shot? But I'd not recommend it.
Cecilia Gentili - Faltas
This one was absolutely incredible; really loved Gentili's narrative voice. It's about growing up trans, growing up abused, growing up poor, but despite all that it feels almost triumphant. Probably that's because it's written in the form of letters to people who didn't leave the town, whereas she got out and made something of herself. Not really able to talk about what I loved about it, but I'll definitely be recommending it.
Forman Brown - Better Angel
It's gay fiction (thinly veiled autobiography) from the 1930s, what more need I say? He reads too much, gets a superiority complex about his intelligence, and ends up unfit for heterosexual society. Basically, he's just like me. He seems to have a very dim view of 20th century gay society though; perhaps the result of discovering homosexuality through reading ancient Greek literature? But what would you really expect from a socially respectable gay guy from 90 years ago?
Junichiro Tanizaki - Quicksand
Immediately after reading The Makioka Sisters for the first time, I was ready to proclaim Tanizaki as one of my favorite authors ever. Every book I've read of his since then has slowly been changing my mind on that. Superficially, The Makioka Sisters seems like it sticks out in his discography (it's almost like Jane Austen, whereas his other work seems to be different ways sex can ruin your life), but it doesn't really? It's all just different ways of saying that he thinks modernity is killing Japan; in this one, Tanizaki's modernity of choice is bisexuality. It's kinda fun reading about the evil lesbian for a bit, but it all just comes to a sudden stop, as if he got bored with it and just threw one last chapter in to provide an ending.
Min Jin Lee - Pachinko
I am such a sucker for these multigenerational family sagas. One Hundred Years of Solitude, Homegoing, Pachinko: I'll read them all, just keep them coming. I'd not known anything before about the Korean community in Japan, and now I do (or at least I think I do), so that's pretty cool as well. Noa is, sadly, another "he is so me" type character; always reading, a bit snobby, dead-set on being One Of The Good Ones.
Qiu Miaojin - Last Words from Montmartre
I'd read Notes of a Crocodile a while back and never really knew what to make of it. There was a bit of a narrative there, but not really? And you never got a sense of anyone. Anyway, Last Words from Montmartre is like that too, but a bit more understandable as the narrator is trapped in a spiral of isolation that it's too late to get out of. Knowing Miaojin's fate, it's hard not to think that the distance between author and narrator was extremely thin, if not non-existent. I started feeling really bad about my own life while reading this, and I think that it was probably a contributing factor, because I started to feel better as soon as I finished reading.
Luke Dani Blue - Pretend It's My Body
It's a trans short story collection, but none of the stories really do much for me. Maybe the one about the "con" who's planning to upload her consciousness to the Internet? Maybe it's just a small sample size, but nearly all of the trans short fiction I've read hasn't really done anything for me in the past (Casey Plett's work being the main exception). I'm not sure why that would be the case though, because basically every trans novel ends up impressing me? I guess it's possible I don't like short fiction as much as I think I do. If y'all have any other trans short story recommendations, I would love to hear them though!

ok i watched rwrb and was live-blogging it for bl archiving purposes:
this was a BEAUTIFUL movie. everything from the colors to the camera angles to the set design was marvelous.
the acting was amazing from both leads but my god. taylor zakhar perez. SIR. still gathering my thoughts over how much this man ruined my life.
I loved the latinx and texan culture they infused all throughout, especially the music
also that the movie preserved the original book's horniness. particularly after the whole heartstopper purity bullshit i think we needed a few gratuitous shots of taylor zakhar perez getting dicked down thank you very much.
the cringe moments were not as bad as i expected. they were mostly the same moments i cringed over reading the book so i appreciated they didn't add to the cringe volume :)
ok IM LYING. there was a movie-specific cringe moment and it was this:
(because i cannot for the life of me accept that the epitome of privilege prince harry/william avatar would read bernadine evaristo but whatever go off liberal utopia)
did i mention taylor zakhar perez.
ALSO UMA THURMAN. that woman only gets finer with age doesn't she 😩
yeah i hated the email leak thing now just as much as when i read the book. (i did appreciate they tried to infuse some queer coming out politics into it this time around tho. at least i think it was a bigger thing this time around???)
"I have fallen in love with a person who happens to be a man and that man happens to be a prince." congratulating myself for not puking here
i really appreciated all the women in this movie were hot. casting really did us a solid
MISTER GORBACHEV PUT THESE TWO LOVESICK HOMOSEXUALS ON THE PHONE WITH ONE ANOTHER
zahra and shaan......... listen. all i'm saying is i would like to see it.
i already knew stephen fry was going to be the homophobic grandfather but it didn't make it any less enjoyable.
me when i overshare online
makes you wonder what sort of times we live in that they had to update the president's acceptance speech to reflect the current anti-trans legislation in the US
"wow you really are working class aren't you?" whoever tried to make the script more relatable needs to be fired.
all in all, an okay movie. i didn't go in with high expectations because i didn't love the book, but i liked to see the amount of effort put into making it all very gay. on the whole the plight of the very special prince boy remains supremely unrelatable to me even when it's undercut with the narrative of queerness and acceptance, but i still have hopes this movie ushers in more big budget queer stories that are not about idk. the most privileged people on planet earth. but we might be waiting a while folks ! (at least on this side of the globe)

do you have any fav webcomics rn? or any webcomics you'd recommend?
At the risk of being called out as a fake fan I actually don’t read any webcomics 😬 I’ve only actually kept up with one webcomic during the entirety of my life thus far but that was years ago and they stopped updating by the time I discovered the comic 🥲 from what I remember it was about a group of young teenagers dealing with regular young teenager stuff like angst, romance or lack thereof, burgeoning homosexuality, and discovering one of their friends has psychic powers.
My only comic intake comes in the form of manga really. I tried to get into webtoon and there were a few I liked well enough (( the one with cat heads was wild)) but on the whole it felt very… consumer friendly. I’m snobby and pretentious by nature so just telling good narratives doesn’t usually interest me too much. I like things that are particular and messy, where the hand of the author is used to slap you in the face. It’s why Tatsuki Fujimoto is one of my favorite modern mangakas. Fire Punch (( and chainsawman to a lesser degree )) is a FLAMING HOT plate of insane storytelling decisions and breakneck pacing but it’s so idiosyncratic in its insanity that it works for me, even though I don’t actually recommend it to anyone 😂 Obvious jojo fan too like Hirohiko Araki is really out there almost 40 years deep into this manga and still managing to snatch my wig on a monthly basis.
If you’re still looking for a recommendation, I would recommend Land of the Lustrous/ Houseki no Kuni (( or as I affectionately call it Hoe sucky no coochie 😌 <- mature adult moment )), which I don’t see getting as much love on here as it should 😤 I started watching it bc people were like lol anime Steven universe bc it’s about a bunch of androgynous but largely female presenting gems who are stone (( rock joke 😏 )) cold professionals taking care of the youngest gem, a plucky young thing that doesn’t really understand their place in the narrative. The major difference however is that Steven universe is a coming of age story about overcoming trauma while LoL/HnK is a coming of age story about being ground to dust by an unending influx of existential horror 🥹👍 it’s honestly one of the most horrifying stories I’ve read, not cuz it’s like junji ito scary but because of the way the relentless passage of time and the continuous accrual of personal mistakes and self hatred takes our plucky young protagonist and breaks them down to someone completely unrecognizable from where they started.
And not just like figuratively.
This evolution is one of the most heartbreaking character arcs I’ve ever experienced and now I want you to feel my PAIN 🥲👍 There is one season (( 🥹 )) of anime which has one of the best implementations of 3D anime I’ve seen from a company without ufotable’s budget. I’d start out with the anime which is really well done and then switch over to the mango 🥭 (( which is still ongoing ))
#if you’re looking for a more biased recommendation you can read my webcomic which will receive its first page dump later this week 😌#asked and answered babey!

My favored headcanoj is the two repressed gays that figure out true love through each other. None of it makes sense, or is supposed to be the right way of doing things, but they're both drawn to each other which starts with a curiosity that turns into a deep friendship colored by desires that don't exist in any other connection they have.
This has been the reality for queer folks in homophonic and transphobic communities throughout history, who didn't have internet or defined labels to identity with or explore freely. But it's also a shared experience of falling in love and realizing the ocean of feelings are much deeper than the shallow puddles they're used to and had expected.
I envision Castiel's repression as one born through compulsory heterosexuality that reflected human norms and romantic opportunities that arose because the narrative made them convenient, as well as the ties he experiences to Heaven. A heaven which has had his undying love and loyalty yet rejects his true expression. It's the only paradise he has known but it is a paradise born of Compliance. He's an entity that already connects to humanity in a way that is uncharacteristic for his species who then has to discover the complexity of emotions, ethics, love, and betrayal with a lonely, flawed, and misguided man man as his gateway to free will only to now realize he actually has something to lose and there's no army of divine entities to defend it. Castiel, who has been in vessels very rarely and for short periods of time, must learn how to have a physical and emotional body.
TLDR: Castiels repression is born out of an ignorance of emotions and sexuality. But as he learns, his only romantic opportunities have been with women. Yet, the only dynamic he has with an earned physical and emotional depth, that develops through tragedy and triumph, is with another man who is also repressed. Cas is an angel that holds compassion for humanity, its his duty rather than a personal cconnection, but his choice was Dean Winchester.
Dean is repressed in that he has and more nuanced understanding of human culture, morality, gender and sexuality. He's raised in a white-dominated, patriarchal society during a time period where homosexuality was deeply stigmatized and not publicly acknowledged outside of queer spaces. He had feelings and urges, but he did not act upon them. His repression is born of shame and a refusal to believe he could be queer. Dean grew up in a hedonistic lifestyle of killing, alcoholism, sex, and emotional voltility
I forgot where iw as going with this point, I'll update if I remember fuck
destiel - good luck babe
you could say it's just the way you are make a new excuse, another stupid reason
repressed cas truthers stand up!!!

BOOK TITLE: HE'S INTO HER He's Into Her is a perfect blend of mystery, adventure, and love, offering a unique narrative and escape from a horrible world. This review focuses on Max and Deib, TAGURO and SENSUI, and showcases the essence of perfection in this story.
The romance novel "HE'S INTO HER" on Wattpad is a captivating and unpredictable story set in a typical school setting. The story explores themes of love, loyalty, family, and identity, with twists, turns, and spins. The story features a near-perfect love story, challenges, and a mysterious side, as well as a HAMBOG side and perceived-as-GAYISH-ness. The author's updates ensure satisfaction and keep readers engaged. This is no fairy tale, unlike other tales featuring princesses, knights, and clumsy girls. Instead, it features TAGURO and SENSUI, without fairy godmothers, knights, or princes. The story is unique in that it doesn't involve a poor woman selling herself to a wealthy man for love. The story revolves around a misperception between a jovial male character and a stereotypically obese and bullied female lead. The male character miscalculated the female lead's abilities, leading to their argument. The female lead, on his level, attempted to maintain a low profile and mystique, but he persisted in tormenting her. Eventually, they met and fell in love, with feelings developing and releasing. The story highlights the importance of understanding one's own perceptions and embracing one's own strengths. Taguro and Sensui, two of the coolest names in Ghost Fighter, are two characters that will stick in your cute little brain, will get on our nerves, and casts that will undoubtedly toy with our emotions. It was quite funny to me. A rare and special term of endearment for lovers. Sensui for Deib since he's tall and relatively slender, and Taguro for Max because she's fat and a vixen. It appears so innocent, yet cool! Maxpein Zin Del Valle Moon, a musical artist, is a unique figure from the Moon family in North Korea. She is known for her impregnable exterior and unique personality, guarding her family like a strong tower. Born into a wealthy family, she has a secret identity and is known for her threatening atmosphere. She is a genius with an outstanding intellect and is known for her morbid or crazy past. She is known for her ability to protect her family and is known for her obscene wealth and strict adherence to laws. Deib Lohr Enrile is a well-known combat striker and bully, known for his MVP awards in basketball. He initially aimed at Kimeniah Sirvey Gozon but ultimately chose not to. Deib is expressive, sweet, loyal, and envious, making Yakiro Tobi Yanai and Lee Roi Gozon feel cherished and unique. He has a homosexual personality, enjoying physical affection and naggery. Despite his lack of knowledge about her identity, he embraces and defends her, even though he has no idea of her identity. Deib's love for Yakiro and her unique experiences make him a strong and devoted partner. MAXINEJIJI, a Filipino writer with an intelligent mind and a remarkable talent, has achieved immense success. Her book appeals to readers' interests and passions, making her audience stay. She is a genius with a mind that is incredibly intelligent, remarkable, and amazing. Her success is attributed to her ability to create a unique and captivating genre, making it challenging for others to imitate her. She is simply amazing and will continue to do so for her success. The novel HIH evoked a lively mood in the reader, evoking diverse emotions. The characters were endearing, adorable, and humorous, making the reader feel a flood of feelings. The story is filled with emotions, such as Max's hurt feelings and Deib's joy. The protagonist also shares her emotions through dances and singing, and expresses disappointment when she cannot control her emotions. The final chapter of the book is now in sight, and the reader hopes Taguro and Sensui will continue to show the reality of happily ever after. The book is a best-selling and widely-read work, and the reader is eagerly anticipating its future film or television series.

im very aware the version of leonie fired emblem who lives in my head and word document rent free is, at any angle, rather a leonie-shaped OC but unfortunately i love her too much and im just going to have to be a lesbian about it. she will remain this way. (as in, i don’t think a canon iteration of leonie would narrate herself in the way that the style i write my fic necessitates, but. here i am). but im also now at the point of watching leonie supports on yt and going ‘nah, she wouldn’t say that’, when blatantly she can and she did. there is an orange-tinged character occupying my word doc and i love her very much but i fear she isn’t leonie ..
#birb says what //#look if the supernatural writers can use homosexuality as a pharmakon in their characters then so can bloody i.#my degree has necessitated i read a macbeth transformative work (i'll die on that catagory hill) and it touches a lot on displacement#and because my head is full of weasels and pop culture and ive been obsessed with fe post war trans. works for the last. year.#my head has been going places without telling me prior#anyway so i see any postwar leonie-ignatz ship to be based on the way their utility to the world flips and neither know how to deal w/ it#ignatz for all the angsting about it has a valued skill that would be in demand (because i very much subcribe to my headcanon of#ignatz having painted the monthly murals in game. i'll die on that hill)#but leonie's massively honed and valued skill of warfare becomes suddenly obsolete once warfare is over#but that's also based in my dislike for her becoming a merc. which is a me problem really but im taking it out on the narrative#hm. i don't know where i was going with that. either way big fan of leonie and ignatz existing. they're doing amazing jobs sweeties#(i also have thots on a postwar VW initial society but like#i cant articulate that at 2am. bad plan me)#oh this sure is a post#update: the orange tinged character was fucking dirk strider#I hate that

Rec list update. AGAIN. second part here and first part here
Wyatt Earp. Frontier marshal - Stuart N. Lake Well. This is where fame started. Earp would have been forgotten in the Arizona sands (as he wanted), but after the scandalous boxing match between Fitzsimmons and Sharkey, the forgotten Earp was remembered with unkind words by the entire biased press of San Francisco, and after, many years later, Lake became interested in him. And accidentally made him a national hero at a very hard time. Of course, he SIGNIFICANTLY embellished the biography and wrote it as if from the perspective of Wyatt himself, which caused further confusion. Western knight in a white hat on a white horse, defender of orphans and the poor, an ideal man. Uh-huh, yeah, damn it. But we owe everything to this book.
There is an opinion that the old man didn’t like Lake, so he sabotaged his story in every possible way, telling the writer less than a captured partisan would say.
Tombstone. An Iliad of the Southwest - Walter Noble Burns book that started it all, and produced a number of fictional but iconic phrases (like i’m your huckleberry). It's funny that the book came out before the Frontier marshal, but didn’t hit the jackpot. In general, this is understandable, the Frontier marshal is aimed in structure and style at the reader who needs an interesting spirit-uplifting reading. This book is hard to read, isn’t focused on one person, but as an introduction to the origins of the legend (and this is really the creation of a legend) - definitely a must-have.
Wyatt Earp's Tombstone Vendetta - Glenn G. Boyer the author claims that this story was told to him by the son of a man who once personally knew Wyatt VERY closely since the time of Tombstone (the person chose to remain anonymous) and that this man accidentally got involved in almost all historical events (and the author also personally annoyed a bunch of Earp's relatives, Kate's relatives, Matty’s and McLaury’s). And sometimes he gives out SUCH unexpected facts that it’s just really hard to believe. But it's wonderfully written. There is a GORGEOUS DOC here, he is just GORGEOUS. Well, ship-moments are just f u c k i n g good. I recommend reading with a touch of critical thinking. But if at least half of what was told is true - boy oh boy.
The World of Doc Holliday - Victoria Wilcox is the perfect source of material where Doc lived and traveled. Written in the spirit of travel writing in short articles. A golden book for people with ADHD, the brain receives interesting information in short articles about the life of those times, about the transport system of America. A very nice reading. But the information regarding Doc is outright bullshit occasionally. For a biography, you'd better read Gary Roberts.
Tombstone's Treasure. Silver Mines and Golden Saloons - Sherry Monahan is the holy bible of Tombstone's material. A VERY detailed description of the inner city cuisine, saloons and mines, just a hell of a lot of interesting and useful information, written in an easy and entertaining way, I strongly recommend
Kurukshetra and the O.K. Corral: A Comparative Narrative Analysis of "Wyatt Earp" and the "Mahabharat." - Scott R. Stroud Mahabharat. And the history of the Earps. And a huge number of COINCIDENCES. Incredibly hilarious reading, incredibly hilarious references. No, I'm serious, the parallels are incredibly transparent and obvious, you wouldn’t believe me. And another beautiful parallel are Krishna-Doc. oh god, I'm crying. The quote about death-the-destroyer-of-worlds sparkled with new colors.
Hour of the Gun - Robert Krepps novelization of the 1967 movie. That was directed by the same man who directed the 1957 movie Gunfight at the O.K. Corral. The level of gay tension is just overwhelming. The author ships docatt with the fury of a thousand suns. Strongly recommend. gay gay homosexual gay.
The Earps talk - Alford E. Turner a series of sanitized and annotated interviews that Earps gave throughout their lives. A good insight into the heads of the brothers, but we must remember that Earps formal education sucked, although they were smart men, but speak SO artistically, as they allegedly did in the interviews, they hardly could. Doc could. Brothers? I don’t think so
TOMBSTONE An original screenplay. Fourth draft - Kevin Jarre basically the title speaks for itself. 4th version of the script, there are a lot of scenes that weren’t included in the film. The script was greatly reduced and cut, which only benefited the movie, as there are no side lines and a bunch of unnecessary characters. Well, the cherry on the cake is a canonized docatt, I showed this quote once. With an almost spoken declaration of love. Lord, we've been robbed
Wyatt Earp Meets Doctor Death - Andy Rausch an outright fanfiction. Imagine Jack the Ripper in the wild west. The dialogue is golden, but the characters are fucked up. And Josie is also The Ripper. Have you watched the Miike Snow clip Genghis Khan? There's a manic woman at the end - that's the same vibe
Tombstone: The Earp Brothers, Doc Holliday, and the Vendetta Ride from Hell - Tom Clavin is a nice non-fiction book, with more attention on Earp and Doc than Clavin's other books.
The Saga of Doc Holliday - Victoria Wilcox
books:
Southern son
Dance with the Devil
Dead man’s hand
