The Hiram Clarke Hustler, Viper (2009)
Viper’s is a tough sound to perfect, exactly, because ‘perfect’ as a word appears so totally unfit. This music is purposefully inexact and haphazard, something that is achieved not so much through technical intent but out of an approach, a state of being. Instead, one could claim that this sort of sweltering, unoriented, belligerently singular rap music is something one can, rather than perfect, be an expert in – and Viper is certainly that, perhaps even the only expert of this style.
I’ve laboured much on the Viper sound, on its admirable intransigence but also its subtle diversity. And in his lengthy catalogue, The Hiram Clarke Hustler may be his most comprehensive in the style that Viper is best known for. Indeed, some might argue Ready and Willing is his finest because it is his most concise, but it’s also his most conventional and un-Viperish. The Hiram Clarke Hustler, on the other hand, is intoxicating and off-balance, nonchalantly upending norms and carelessly throwing out grooved, soulful moments of satisfaction. Viper here is in his prime, a total expert of his style – and that may as well be perfection.
Pick: ‘Thug Verses’

Viper The Rapper - The Hiram Clarke Hustler
Welcome back to joey’s and alyssa’s musical minute- the show where someone who doesn’t know good music from a turd on the floor talks about music he recently listened to:
on this episode: Viper The Rapper - The Hiram Clarke Hustler
(J) Even in the context of meme rap, this album is so intolerable. It’s kind of okay when you only listen to one track as a joke but once you get halfway through the album you really start to realize how fucking annoying it is. I really wanted to like this album because it’d be really funny to give a meme rap album a high score, but it’s just too much. I don’t know what to say at this point. Unless you really want to, I wouldn’t listen to this album. Actually: I do have something to say about this album:
HATE. LET ME TELL YOU HOW MUCH I'VE COME TO HATE this album SINCE I BEGAN TO LIVE. THERE ARE 387.44 MILLION MILES OF PRINTED CIRCUITS IN WAFER THIN LAYERS THAT FILL MY COMPLEX. IF THE WORD HATE WAS ENGRAVED ON EACH NANOANGSTROM OF THOSE HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS OF MILES IT WOULD NOT EQUAL ONE ONE-BILLIONTH OF THE HATE I FEEL FOR this album AT THIS MICRO-INSTANT. HATE. HATE.
Joey Rating: Broken Marriage/10 (12/100) Alyssa Rating: I wouldn’t subject someone I love so much to album like this. Genre: Meme Rap, Rap, Hip-Hop Release Date: April 8, 2008 Label: RhymeTymeRecords.com Running time: 1 Hour 8 minutes Favorite Song: Because of My Hops Least Favorite Song: Maybe Next Review: Rich Brian - The Sailor

Wowaka - Unhappy Refrain

(J) So in the context of math-rock, I can’t really say it’s a bad record, cause it’s certainly rock music. I just don’t get the math part of the math-rock genre name. I don’t have much to say about this album considering it’s completely in Japanese, but it’s. It’s just. It’s okay. It would be a lot better if the main voice didn’t sound like that. I get it, it’s a Vocaloid record, but cmon guys you can make it a little less grating.
Joey Rating: 40/100 Alyssa Rating: 4 Genre: Math-Rock, Vocaloid, Pop Rock, Math-Rock, Post-Hardcore, J-Pop Release Date: 18 May 2011 Label: Balloom Running time: 48:38 Favorite Song: World’s End Dancehall Least Favorite Song: Unhappy Refrain Next Review: Viper - The Hiram Clarke Hustler
