The Hidden Realm
Tumblr media
Chapter 4: The Fae Realm
Summary: Elrond has sacrificed himself in a prisoner exchange to secure Lindir's freedom. Has he made a mistake?
Note: I am so sorry I disappeared for so long! I have been trying to turn Timeless Warrior into a published series. I make no promises on how consistent I will be, but I will be trying more. Thank you for your patience!
Elrond didn’t notice anything different at first; it was just the normal, corrupted forest now known as Mirkwood. But the deeper they went, the quieter it became. The birds stopped singing, the animals were diving for cover, and even the trees stopped rustling. The Queen and her guard never spoke to each other but they were communicating nonetheless. Even the horses - his included - seemed to speak this silent language.
The portal was nearly invisible even to his elvish eyes, and part of him wondered if that had to do with his Edain blood. It was there, a slight shimmer in the air not too dissimilar to when the air was too hot.
And they were heading straight for it.
The Queen went first and Elrond had to blink several times to make sure he was not being deceived. But sure enough, parts of her were disappearing as she went through the shimmer until she was no longer in front of him. As if she had vanished into thin air. Then it was his turn.
He tried not to panic when he saw Morroch's head vanish before his eyes, and then his hands followed. Elrond closed his eyes, preparing for the worst. But he was met with chuckling from the guard. Opening his eyes, he was left speechless at the sight of the fae realm.
There was a glow to nearly every plant, source of water, and even some of the animals. They followed a river that had a silver-blue glow, and the banks were lined with beautiful pink flowers that had the most beautiful scent Elrond had ever come across.
Butterflies bigger than his head fluttered by and the birds sang a song he had never heard. Even the sky seemed to have changed. It was achingly beautiful.
Then they arrived at her castle.
It wasn’t obvious at first. They passed gardens and pools, filled with both fae and humans, which surprised Elrond. Everyone stopped at the sight of an elf in chains, but no one made a move to save him. If anything, they all had a look of understanding on their faces. What had been occurring in this kingdom?
Then the dirt road turned into one of stone, cut in intricate patterns of flowers, stars, and moons. The road lead to a massive gate, silver in color and covered in ivy, fern, and moss with dark purple flowers blooming and glowing. Through the gates, Elrond could see fountains with different colored glowing water, lightning bugs dancing all over, and more fae children splashing in the fountains.
The forest hadn’t ended at the gates. It wasn’t as thick in the courtyard as in Eryn Galen, but the forest was still there. Hiding the castle.
It reached up into the treetops, the stones used to build it a moonlight silver with many open windows, towers, bridges, and more moss, fern, and ivy growing all over. There were lights at the top of each tower and Elrond chalked it up to magic as no candle could survive standing atop a tower day and night.
There was a glowing moat around the castle and next to the bridge to cross stood two sentinels. The Queen dismounted at the sight of them, followed by her guard. The guard and the two sentinels carefully removed Elrond from his horse and the guard grabbed Elrond’s arm. The sentinels called for a couple of squires to take the horses from the group and then the Queen was leading them to the castle doors.
Elrond could smell the magic in the air that surrounded them. It wasn’t suffocated as corrupted magic could be. It was new, fresh, and full of hope. It smelled of Arda when Elrond was young.
Before everything was taken from him.
It gave him an unexpected wave of nostalgia, causing him to think of his parents for the first time in millennia. How his mother would give him and Elros a cookie before tucking them into bed. How his father would show Elrond about plants and Elros about animals. Oh, how he missed them both. Would they be proud of the elf he had become?
The foyer was grand and the only comparison he had was Eryn Galen. That foyer was smaller and more focused compared to this grandeur.
No, he had another comparison.
Gil-Galad’s home. The High King of the Noldor had towers made, and while they were grand those were still towers. No, Elrond didn’t know a true castle outside of Minas Tirath. This structure before him was more human in nature than elvish. Did the fae get the idea from man or the other way around?
The Queen took them down a hall to their left just on the other side of the foyer and were immediately met with a vibrant green fae woman.
“Your Majesty, oh!” She stopped short at the sight of the elf. “Your Majesty?”
“It is quite alright. This elf will be taking the place of the prisoner we secured at Thranduil’s party.”
The fae woman blinked in surprise. “He is?”
“Yes, he is.” There was no arguing with her tone and the woman bowed her head.
“Yes, Your Majesty. Shall I get the other prisoner ready for departure?”
The Queen let out a deep breath through her nose. “Yes, I suppose we should do that. I wish to speak with him before his departure, so do not make haste.”
“Yes, Your Majesty.” And the woman quickly left their presence.
“You seemed annoyed at the idea of letting Lindir go,” Elrond commented.
The Queen looked at him out of the side of her eyes but did not comment as she continued to lead them down to her dungeons. Elrond took note at the artwork on the walls: beautiful portraits of what he had assumed was the royal family. What surprised him was the amount of humans in some of the paintings.
“Is it typical to allow humans to live in your realm?”
She turned sharply at his question. “Get this in your head now, elf. There will be no negotiating. No pleading. No bargaining. You are our prisoner per your own request. Do not concern yourself with my kingdom, for this is the last you will see of it outside your cell.”
She turned back just as quickly and Elrond did not mean the quiet words that left his mouth.
“I only desire to learn.”
“I do not care of your desires.”
Tumblr media
While the cell was dark, it was not what Elrond had feared. It appeared more of a standard room. A comfortable enough bed, a private area to relieve himself, and even a window which had surprised him at first until he realized the image was produced by magic.
“The light from the window changes as the day progresses,” the guard explained. “We do not have cruel prisons as some humans and elves had built. Torture is not our way.”
Elrond wondered at this but didn’t have long to ponder as another was in the room. Lindir.
Being held by the Queen.
“Say your goodbyes,” she commanded.
She tossed him into the room and Elrond caught the elf as he stumbled.
“Lord Elrond?!” Lindir’s eyes were full of panic. “You gave your life for mine? No! You must go back and lead Imladris!”
“Imladris will be in the capable hands of my sons. What kind of a lord would I be if I did not do everything in my power to protect those who had called Rivendell their home? Go, Lindir. My children will need your and Erestor’s guidance during these trying times.”
“But my lord-”
“I will not hear another word, Lindir. That is an order.”
Lindir dropped his head. “Yes, Lord Elrond.”
The Queen watched the entire interaction and Elrond could have sworn he saw a flash of sorrow in her eyes. But it was gone far too quickly.
Tumblr media
“Who dares join me down here?!”
Rhyannon was still surprised after all these years how strong the voice still was. He was full of so many surprises despite all the time he spent in her dungeons.
Down and down and down she went to the very bottom of her dungeons were only one prisoner was kept. To the only prison cell that had a steel door on top of the protection charm. The two guards standing on either side straightened to attention at the sight of their queen and she smiled at them.
“It’s alright. I wish to speak to the old grump.”
The guards hesitated for a moment before finally opening the door. Rhyannon didn’t bother to remove the protective charm and her instincts proved correct when a cup came flying at her head.
“WITCH!” The elf was clean, but there was no joy in his soul. His once beautiful silvery golden hair was now faded to a dull white.
“Is that the best you have in you?” A smirk played on her face. “I thought your kind was supposed to fade after time when your soul has been wounded?”
“I will live to see you dead!”
“The Fae cannot die, unlike elves.” She stated plainly.
“Who are these new prisoners?! I could hear you talking with them!”
“Do not concern yourself for those you will not meet.”
“DID YOU CAPTURE-”
“No, I didn’t,” Rhyannon sighed in annoyance. “Thranduil still roams free.”
“He will take your head!”
She chuckled at this. “Funny, he thinks I have already done that to you.”
There was still life in his eyes, but the pain they showed at her words made Rhyannon wonder if this would finally be his end.
“He thinks I’m dead?”
“Don’t worry. If it makes you feel better, when I finally take Eryn Galen I can keep him in a cell right next to yours. And his son next to his.”
“You leave my family alone!”
“I will not any more than you left mine. Actions have consequences, Oropher.”

I portrayed the younger versions of the sages, among them Cael Reyes, Ethren Reyes' nephew. Cael held a position as one of the sages until his untimely passing, whereupon Simeon Silversweater seamlessly stepped into his place. But, well... I'll always be stuck in this era (>؂•̀)

Prompt 263
Once More, we return to Tiamat prompts.
It was a wonderful idea, really! If one of them couldn’t break the barrier, then surely their combined might would do it! And it had! It had worked, even if their remaining humanity was sacrificed. They’d done it, they’d made it where everyone could escape, could leave!
… Except for them. Someone had to close the portal. And it all would have been fine, if not for the remnants of the GIW. One last hail mary from the imbeciles, they all supposed. Trapping them here within the Zone.
Separated from their families, from the pair of children they had agreed to raise. At least their siblings would watch over Ellie and Jordan. Kyle could hide them, make sure they were safe. Jazz… Jazz was gone, the final straw in this plan.
They screamed, they raged, they destroyed in grief for those that didn’t make it, and for those who had but had nowhere to go. No portals opened, even as they tore at the green around them. They fought, any that thought they were weak, that they were merely a beast, an abomination trapped in chains of science and gold.
There was nothing that could be done, Frostbite had said, sympathy in his voice. No way to turn back the clock with how entwined they had become, Clockwork had explained. The only thing they could do was wait, Pandora had tried to sooth, despite it doing nothing.
They wrenched open the coffin in a hazy fury, tearing apart armies like it was blades of grass. Their maws devoured dead who had lost themselves and become mere husks and thralls, lashing tails ripping through armour like it was nothing.
And then as titans, they clashed with the one who had once stolen the city here. There was no desperation from them this time, no armor besides scales unbreakable as flames and storms and ice and thorns ripped islands apart. There was no desperation besides that of their opponent’s.
There was a pleasure in their victory, before it was wrenched away. What use was a crown when their family wasn’t there? When their daughter, their son, their children were not there by their side?
Paulina laughed, hysterical as ectoplasm dripped from her maw as Kwan howled. Their body was covered in it, their rampage that had no use, no reason leaving a trail of destruction behind them. Is this what they wanted?
No.
Danny raised his head from the dissolving corpses to look towards the obliterated roof of the Keep, once so terrifying now turning to dust like the crown. The crown reforming above their heads, heavy and almost choking.
They would carry this weight together. Would restructure things, would do what they had wanted to do for Amity before the Barriers. They’d work together to rebuild the Realms, make it safer, make it safe for those newly dead.
No matter how long it took, no matter how hard it would be to fix the destruction they had wrought in this meaningless battle. (“Danny, you’re the spokesperson,” Sam spoke up, thorn-like scales ruffling. “You’re most familiar with the realms thanks to the Infinimap.” Fair. “We’ll need allies, we’re only nine people.”)
(“Let me talk to the egyptian afterlife,” Tucker sounded exhausted, hood folding back. “I’m most familiar with them… Star, Paulina, you’re both Princess Dora’s favorites-”)
(“We can do it. Just give us time.” “Maybe a to-do list.” “Clockwork. We need to talk to Clockwork, he’d be most familiar with this.” “Rest first, nerds. We’re all… exhausted.”)
(Valerie laughed tiredly, blades melting to heal a broken horn. “Time isn’t linear here Dash. You know that. I know that. For once we’re the ones with time to spare.” It would take years to get things up to snuff. Make things Safe for when they could bring their families here.)
Their eyes opened as the now flimsy chains shattered, a smile stretching across the shared face of their humanoid form. Soon. They could return to the mortal realm soon. Just a little more, and they could see their little ones.  They'd waited a thousand years, they could wait a few days more.
(also have sketch)

I'm really getting annoyed with the "Oh you expected a pure cinnamon roll in a Souls game like an idiot and your headcanon was wrong and that's why you’re mad and also why your opinion about Shadow of the Erdtree's story is invalid" discourse.
I love the tragedy of Miquella losing everything he is in his attempt to attain godhood and save his sister/the world/etc
But the execution of that was absolute dogshit and came off like Fromsoft doing fanservice badly imo
There are things about the DLC's story that are done very well. Miquella’s arc was not one of them and I don't just think that because my headcanon was wrong.

Y'know, I really do think just about every mention of God in this show is something of a double-edged sword and ought to be interrogated as such.
-
I've written before about "More than God loves them.", for example.
How, at a surface level, we might take it to mean "Gee Captain, you sure do love your men a lot!" But it carries less weight within a story where we're shown that God doesn't appear to love them all that much and may even be actively against them.
To love your men more than God loves them just doesn't mean as much when God doesn't love them in the first place.
-
And now I'm thinking we ought to interrogate "And remember - God lies in all realms!" in a similar way.
It's meant to be a comfort - "Don't be afraid, Mr Collins, God will be with you even as you venture into a brand-new, dangerous place!". But, again, we're presented with with very little evidence that God loves or cares about or offers any protection to them so perhaps the question ought to be asked - Why would you even want a god like that to be with you in all realms?
How can it really be a good thing to have God with you when he's inflicting such pain on you? And what means of relief have you when he's always there, with you in all realms, inescapable?

From what I've gathered after exploring wiki, Hiccup like explored the Hiddenw World woth his family:
there's stuff from him and his family, like permanent things, apparently there's a throne meaning he spent significant time there
MEANING we could have had an ENTIRE SERIES of him and the former riders as well as his KIDS actually EXPLORING THE HIDDEN WORLD AND REUNITING, i mean hiccups kids could have become dragon riders possibly
We would have had waaay more hiccup and valka too
Plus Heather and dagur and mala and the maidens
ARE KIDDING ME?? Thye left us to mourn the dragons and we got a small taste of a reunion at the end and WE COULD HAVE MAYBE IDK GOTTEN AN ENTIRE SERIES
Also the comics taking place between HTTYD2 and 3 would have been a great series too 😭 it all would have been 😭

A Series between httyd2 and httyd3 would be much more interesting and creative than whatever they want to try with this live action remake
Don’t get me wrong, I love httyd with all my heart, but I rather see a series between httyd2 and 3 and a exact adaptation of the book, than a live action cash grab from a movie series, that is very near to my heart. But I can’t stop talking about the thought, how a series in between httyd2 and 3, which is based on the Comics and Ideas Richard Hamilton had for the franchise. His ideas are more creative than the live action train, we have to face. I‘d rather see a TV show about the httyd comics, then this useless live action remake. Just imagine how it would look like if the comics would come to life in the animation style of Chaos Theory and as cherry on Top, the same producers as from Chaos Theory. They have proven themselves in Camp Cretaceous and Chaos Theory, more than once. And I still think they would be a good pick if we ever got a sequel series to Rtte, that isn’t disrespectful against the original. If they would go in a more mature theme with more adult themes, like Hiccup having nightmares about the death of his father, Astrid and the duties she has to face as the Chiefs General and his future wife, how does she feels about becoming pregnant and having children, what plans does she and Hiccup have for the future, aside from marriage, explore Toothless‘ tragic backstory being the only night fury left and so on. Would make a lot more sense to finish this part of the story than whatever they want to do with the live action remake, aside from nostalgia bait, even if it was not even a decade since the last movie released, and money. I see no point in retelling an already great story. But no Hollywood and Universal want to be lazy and uncreative, again. The abuse of franchises just drives me nuts and now our beloved httyd is their next victim.

In JttW, changing ones name is quite common and usually accompanied by a big changes in their life (mostly for Buddhist reasons). And LMK seems to acknowledge this since they have used both the pre-Journey Zhu Ganglie as well as his later Zhu Bajie names when talking about the Pig Pilgrim.
And with this line of thought: there is no way that Iron Fan is is PIF's birth name.
Not only is it way too on the nose (unless PIF chose/was given her fan because of her name), she also has gone through a huge change in her life: abandoning her life as a Celestial Maiden and marrying DBK.
Which means... There is a huge opportunity for the show (or fanfic) writers to give her a double identity.
And part of me kinda hopes, if canon, that identity will be Yang Chan; the sister of Erlang Shen.
I mean think about it.
As Celestial, she was shown to have an equal standing with nephew and (kinda) grandson of the Jade Emperor. This makes it very likely that PIF is also related to the Jade Emperor in one way or another.
If she is Yang Chan, her mother would be Yunhua (Yaoji?); a goddess whose job by some sources was to "limit the gods' mortal urges such as love, greed, and ambition". Is it just me, or aren't those also major traits of Iron Fan as a character?
You could argue that DBK getting imprisoned under a mountain is loosely inspired by The Magic Lotus Lantern, the main story Erlang's sister is known for (forbidden marriage, parent getting imprisoned under a mountain by their brother, the son getting a weapon linked to Sun Wukong is a key item at freeing the said parent.)
IronBull family has been part of every single season so far. And when the time to choose the next Jade Emperor comes, it would be so easy for the writers to use PIF (who is still Celestial enough for Azure to refer her as such) as an excuse to get them involved in the progress. Double so if it actually turns out that PIF (and Red Son) has a claim for the throne.
The mere idea of Erlang and PIF as siblings is absolutely hilarios
