Tentatively decided to name the new OC (Shapur's former tutor who now teaches his two kids) Sadiq, meaning “true, sincere, loyal”— derived from the root صدق (ṣadaqa) meaning “to tell the truth”! I have yet to figure out his whole deal but the vague strokes are that he had probably been taught to be ruthless even against family, tangled up in a succession crisis against his brother, only to eventually go “wait, none of this is even remotely worth it” and fucked off— maybe he even tried his hand at serving at court but got disillusioned and left— probably because Gotatzes deteriorated and he witnessed again brother fighting brother and got so Tired of it all. Kinda gave up on the world, only dedicating himself to his... nephew? of a sort? He probably had blood ties to Shapur's father or something to have been able to become his tutor. I get the sense that he's mellowed out quite a bit since his younger years. Actually, why do I keep visualizing this man as Froi Tiedoll from D Gray Man????

Has lingering regrets over broken familial bonds. Maybe he wishes he'd known better, known to have not feuded against his own brother when he was younger.

Wanted to see where Shapur would go with Ayunnen, Kashi, and Kazai, though knew that they probably wouldn't have a good time so long as Shapur's father and Jahanara still held power over the castle so he could have advised to wait until after Shapur became lord.

But then they DIED...

Could he have faint knowledge about things to do with magic? He could have been in Gotatzes' court after all— and that means magic and soothsaying and the like were more prominent during his times (and then Andragoras killed all court sorcerers upon attaining the throne, and here we arrive at Pars' current attitude towards magic. at least in the capital and among warriors?)

I loved @tired-reader-writer suggesstion for Chabiks hair so much (a different hair texture)! So thank you for that! But I did struggle with Irsias entire colour scheme and Chabiks cape.

Somehow my brain's in Kazai Mode™ rn (even w the swirling Kaykhusraw thoughts and the fixation on a new AU/OC that you saw a taste of some while ago) so have this... brainstorm/ramble.

Kazai fights, right? He accompanies Shapur and his men into battle in Sindhura. I'm still kinda wondering on where to put him but what I am sure of is that I can't really put him in the cavalry because he has said so directly to me (and whoever was trying to put him there in-story): Nah, mate. Can't do my fucking job when I'm stuck on a horse. He can't dance on a horse! So I've tentatively ended up putting him on his feet either right next to Shapur's horse or with the infantry (he'd fucking have a blast in the infantry ngl tho...)

Also picturing him telling someone to “make full use of him on the field”. Maybe he's talking to Shapur who can't help but worry for him, maybe he's talking to Narsus. Hm.

So, yeah!

I will gladly welcome any and all Kazai thoughts and considering how his skills would be used in combat is always fun, especially the thought of weaving it into canon-ish AU plotlines like this!

Even if he doesn't want to fight on horseback part of me really wants to say he should participate in the cavalry charge anyway (just so he can charge in there by Shapur's side and they both get to see each other in combat and have each other's backs etc) and then just like... stand up and vault from the saddle as the two sides meet so he can jump straight into the fray and do what he does best. (And if they ever need to retreat, feigned or real, he can whistle for that horse!)

Though I do agree that it'd be super fun to place him with the infantry, too! I wonder how his fighting style would integrate with infantry regarding formations and tactics, though. Unless he's given command of a regiment and gets to train them himself?

I'd love to see the expression on Narsus's face when he understands exactly what 'making full use of Kazai's abilities' looks like.

Got inspired from @innerchorus and @tired-reader-writer to messed a bit with the picrew programm.

I played around a bit with the program and designed a little Kayra. I'm not 100% happy hiw the eyes and the hair color turned out. So I decide to make to pictures of her. One with her eyes closed and the other with her eyes open.

But otherwise I think she turned out pretty. I also tried to put the earring idea from @tired-reader-writer into it because I am absolutely in love with the idea.

And which hand could it be on her cheek? I think I leave this up to you.

I just finished the official lineup for TSOE this July 4th

From left to right we’ve got Ester, Naja, Tariq, Adil, Zufar, Benyamin “Ben”, Fariha, Merten, Yardena, Kohinoor, Aynara and Arslan.

Now here’s the quick descriptions!

Ester - The main protagonist of The song of Ester. A squire of Lusitania training under count Barcacion with the alias, Étoile,. Eventually ends up journeying outside her home kingdom.

Naja - A girl Ester becomes close friends with. A former slave from the lands of Aatish, now seized by Pars the enemy kingdom. Very shy and has trouble speaking up. Goes by the name “Nadir” while serving as a squire with Ester.

Tariq - A former enslaved boy from Sindhura who also ends up in Count Barcacion’s custody. A very persistent kid, despite everything he’s been through.

Adil - Another boy that was also enslaved from the kingdom of Turk. Only living relative he has is his mother. Isn’t the best under pressure but develops a very interesting palate and really likes cooking.

Zufar - Another boy that was enslaved from the southwest, what’s now East Africa. Mother is also alive, but barely knows of his father. A very levelheaded kid who loves a good story.

Ben - Ester’s older brother and a current knight of the Princeguard, warriors who serve and protect Prince Hilmes. Hardworking and does not like the faith of Yaldabaoth, at all.

Fariha - A squire that also serves Prince Hilmes under the alias, “Farim”. The older sister of Merten. Is a responsible older sibling and ends up being close with Ben.

Merten - Also a knight serving the princeguard. Fariha’s younger brother. Is surprisingly relatable when it comes to experiencing chaos and he is in for a heck of a ride. He and Fari also have a lost younger brother they’re searching for.

Yardena - A young girl from the Kinda (Keen-da) kingdom (which is now Saudi Arabia) who ends up coming with the Princeguard. A clever and energetic young girl who ends up becoming close with Merten.

Kohinoor - A young feisty Parsian noblewoman and the 2nd daughter of Lord Hodir. Escaped her own home to avoid an engagement to the crown prince. Ends up joining Ester’s friends and has an older sister, Delara.

Aynara - A girl from a nomadic clan that’s under Tūrān’s rule. Really good at horseback archery. A robust girl who doesn’t give up. Join’s Ester team later in the story and befriends Zufar.

Finally, Arslan - The crown prince of Pars who surprisingly has a supporting role in this story but is 100% lawful good and learning about the land beyond his own kingdom. Has unusually pure white hair and sky colored for a Parsian…

“Dekigokoro“ - Arslan Senki style

Read from right to left. Yeah, I know I probably got carried with the thick pencil, but I wanted to try it out.

I got this idea from a Rakugo story, performed in the pilot episode of “Shouwa Genroku Rakugo Shinjuu” and is about a thief who plans on robbing a house, but finds that there is nothing worth stealing. The owner then returns suddenly. Soon, the his landlord also arrives. The owner claims that he can’t pay his rent because all his valuables have been stolen. The thief has hidden himself away and it listening to the conversation.

One of the lines in the story reminded me of Tūs.

*she comes from a family that, throughout the centuries, has been able to weave magic into their words; basically, she's a bard.

*she's the last of her particular family, her mother having recently passed away.

*Gieve came and lived with her family for a while to train under her mother as a musician, which is how she comes to join up with Arslan's group.

*another job of her family is to document the world's history from a neutral standpoint. under her house is a huge library filled with hand-written books documenting the historical events her ancestors witnessed.

*she agrees to travel with the group under the idea that she can record this historical moment taking place as it happens on the front lines

*in all honestly, she's very fond of Arslan and feels a lot of Protective Older Sister/Mom feelings for him, and, like.... damn Daryun do be kinda hot tho

*she uses her family's heirloom cutlass as her weapon, and knows some offensive types of magic

*the feather in her hair is one she uses to write/draw with in her special notebook to document things as they happen

*she also has a dulcimer, lyre, and lute she carries with her and can play, and knows a lot of different sorts of songs and tales

*she has two animal companions/familiars; Khina the crow and Layli the black cat. she also has a black horse named Ayda

Ayunnen is finally done! He was probably the easiest one to work on among the three, with Kazai being the hardest purely because of the braid and fabric.

If we'd had a new chapter of ArSen this month it would've been released yesterday. It's not quite the same thing but maybe I can try to soften the blow a little bit by sharing a (very old) snippet of fic featuring some implied Kubard/Shapur.

Kubard walked towards the row of stables, stretching as he did so and stifling a yawn. The morning sun was bright in his eyes. As he passed under the stable’s awning, Shapur’s chestnut stallion snaked its neck over the door of the stall, ears laid back, as bad-tempered as its rider. Upon seeing that it was Kubard, the ears came forward and the nostrils flared wide.  “Here you go,” he said, extracting a sugar lump from his pocket, not above bribery. Farnaspa, who had been waiting for him in the courtyard, looked surprised.  “Is that…?” “Shapur’s horse? Yeah,” Kubard grinned. “Careful,” he added, seeing his captain begin to extend a hand towards the horse’s muzzle. “It bites.” “But not you, apparently,” Farnaspa said with a raised eyebrow.

Uhh let's see, although I can't remember very well I don't think this was ever supposed to be part of a longer work, just a little scene I came up with that amused me. It's set pre-canon, naturally.

Farnaspa is an OC of mine (it's not his usual timeline, but I felt like giving him a little cameo here)

Kubard bribing Shapur's horse with sugar lumps in exactly the same way he learned to soften up Shapur himself with sweet goods ahaha, but as you can hopefully tell, both the horse and rider have become a bit more welcoming of his presence over time (with the implication here being that Shapur spent the night and hasn't left yet).

There's a persistent myth that chestnut horses are fiery/hot-headed in temperament so it always amused me that in the anime Shapur rides a chestnut, given that I see those same traits in him.

So I actually have created a small and simple timeline for my Arslan AU. ( I am actually writing a new chapter for the story and yes I am really, really slow). The Timeline is not fully complete, for example the year where Narsus became Lord of Daylam missed and I am not really sure with every canon data. So they will mixed up a bit with my AU and the canon data. A big thanks @tired-reader-writerfor the help to collect some year numbers and canon events.

In the timeline are some events from my AU that are a bit of a spoiler and I hope I can dissolve them with the new chapter I actually write. Hopefully I can posted it in a few days xD.
