Humans make me very angry sometimes.

There's no excuse for poor breeding. We know better than to do this, and when we don't, we are letting living creatures down. I understand it's a complex issue, but if there's anywhere we should be playing God, it's in going "We created the messed up syndrome, we can reverse the messed up syndrome"--which we can, and do! If we can fix pugs by selective breeding, by being just a bit more careful, there's little reason we can't do the same thing when breeding exotic animals.

That having been said, adopt 👏 don't 👏 shop 👏 YES. It honestly never occurred to me that adopting a hedgehog is a thing, but I have to assume a lot of these poor guys are sold to little kids, which must lead to castoffs 8(

Don't buy an animal for a kid unless YOU can take responsibility. They're not gonna be 100%, and when they aren't, that animal NEEDS you.

Add on hedgehogs eating their young in cramped breeding spaces, and how critically delicate their diet is, and you have a lot of reasons not to blindly support pet shops. I'm not saying they're a bad pet--far from it, they seem like quite companionable animals--but that's all the more reason to love them...well, lovingly. Better tomorrows for hedgepigs!

please keep my boy Loki in your thoughts. He hasn't eaten these past few days despite enticements like extra bugs and chicken broth in his food, and while I'm hoping it's nothing he also is getting up there in age for a hedgehog (he just turned 5)

I'll try some more enticements like turkey or scrambled eggs tonight and hope I find something he's willing to eat, but this hunger strike is beginning to concern me and I hope it's not a sign of something worse

Another cute hedgehog behavior Sonic has is that he loves to read! Did you know hedgehogs can read entire novels in just three hours?

They are also capable of writing thesis papers on those novels. Their reading and writing comprehension is so good college students will use their pet hedgehogs to do their homework.
