I feel like lighting, angles, time of day, how you're wearing your clothes, etc. all do so much work for how chubby your stomach looks. Top pic was taken two days before the bottom pic and I stg I look like I've put on several pounds in fat. Not that that's a bad thing. Just interesting to note.

Which is exactly why you're here, of course. Academic discussions of camera angles and lighting as they relate to taking selfies. That's your only intention. The only reason you're looking at these pictures. Of course.

There's absolutely no reason, therefore, for me to tag @xenasaur in this post, since of course this is a chaste academic discussion.

On headless women art

I just thought a thing about headless women art: abused children often don't have the vocabulary to descibe the abuse and therefore they draw it with subconcious imagery. Often they depict themselves without arms or legs (while they depict their abuser with elongated limbs and fingers) as a way to convey helplessness.

I think this runs parallel to women immersed in a society that reduces them to helpless sex objects, in a capitalistic stage in which consumption and display of bought goods is what we are also reduced to. The missing vocabulary is acknowledging oppression and the subconcious impulse is buying and display the representation of it. The helplessness of the statuette is exposed to the eyes of everyone (and the child without limbs cannot escape the long hands of abusers).

Do I think this is reaching? yes lol, but I also kind of can't shake the idea out of my head. I think in my experience before I really understood how much hurt I was accumulating by bending to what people expected of me as a girl, I was unable to state these things and I found solace in the representation of it even if I didn't get the real reason why. (For context, now i found it extremely unsettling).

Isn't it just a way of showing the world what it is doing to us, without admitting to it?

If anyone wants to talk about it even to tell me im very wrong, I would love to!
