Maybe this ending is quite a cliche but it fits perfect for that show. The Mentalist isn't a show about a broken man who chases the person who killed his wife and daughter. This part is done during the show. The reason why it works after that is, the show is a story about a broken haunted man on his journey to find love and happiness again. At the end he is happy, in love and gets a second chance to be a good husband and father.

I'm on a "give SJ a happy ending" agenda where kid SJ reverse transmigrated into the modern world and subsequently gets adopted by kid SY.
