I support everyone’s right to read whatever nasty smut they want, but I see some of these dark romance books that get popular and I can’t help but pass severe judgement on them. Not because they’re “too dark” or all smut and no plot” but because they’re either so poorly written you’d think ChatGP was the author or they fail to commit to the bit of their purported genre.
Much like the Joker bemoaning the state of crime in Gotham, I just want a better class of book for people.
#i read Blood Meridian for in high school; trust me when I say books being ‘too dark’ is not a problem#this post brought to you by me finding out the male love interest of Haunting Adeline#is a thinly veiled Tim Ballard expy who busts sex trafficking rings as a job#so despite being a rapist to our heroine he’s actually not that bad of a guy#i had the same issue with Butcher & Blackbird (which I really wanted to like)#everyone fell short of being truly awful without some traumatic backstory to excuse it#like can we please get some real nasties in here!!!#there’s just way better shit out there I know it!#no wonder people were upset about Louis/Lester revealed to be abusive; everyone’s reading stories bad dudes have their edges sanded down#and if a woman is nastier and meaner than the man? well she might as well be a war criminal who should be tried at The Hague

At a very young age, Russian kids are told not to be afraid to die for Putin’s Russian Empire. Vlad apparently thinks that he’ll be needing cannon fodder (пушечное мясо) for years into the future.
Ukrainian kids just want to get on with their lives – but Putin and other war criminals are doing their best to prevent that.

Some still unknown Russian pilot obeying an order from a commander who is following instructions from Vladimir Putin murdered Valentyn Mekhed and attempted to wipe out his school. All the people in that chain of command are war criminals.
The West needs to give Ukraine modern fighter planes to defend Ukrainian schools, museums, and maternity hospitals which are the favorite targets of Putin’s genocidal war criminals.
Fortunately an increasing number of Western leaders are open to the idea of providing Ukraine with fighter jets.

On his trip through NATO countries, President Zelenskyy visited the International Criminal Court at The Hague. The ICC prosecutes war criminals and hopefully we’ll eventually see Putin on trial there.

By David de Bruijn
Many are shocked, wondering how this could happen in the Netherlands.
To me, their bafflement is what’s shocking.
I grew up in The Hague, where real and abundant antisemitism, from epithets in the street to physical threats to the community’s safety, was part of our daily life. As a young boy, I vividly recall how The Hague's football hooligans—viciously opposed to Ajax, Amsterdam’s “Jewish” team—walked the streets under a banner reading “We’re hunting for Jews.” (Indeed, for my entire life, football stadiums in my home country have been filled with lurid chants like “Hamas, Hamas, all the Jews on gas!” and “My dad was in the commandos, my mom was in the SS, we like to burn Jews, because Jews burn the best.”)
In high school, second- or third-generation Moroccan kids would point and hiss “Psst, psst, that’s a Jew, that’s a Jew!” as they passed by on their bikes.
But most impactful were the myriad security measures our community had to undertake. Seen from the front, The Hague synagogue is not recognizable, two thick green doors presenting a closed facade to the street. Behind these doors are glass doors that open only once additional permission is given. All the windows are made of bulletproof glass. A permanent police post guards the synagogue. In Amsterdam, the Jewish primary school has even more dystopian levels of protection, hidden behind several layers of metal spikes and fencing. From the outside, the view of the school is entirely closed off. (Even as I write this, I feel uncomfortably conscious of not revealing any sensitive security details.)
Self-protection was a constant—and to me, natural—part of Jewish life. Leading youngsters to a summer camp in northern Friesland meant bringing a dedicated security team and, when possible, keeping quiet the fact that it was Jewish children gathering here.
Violent, antisemitic assaults have become increasingly regular occurrences. In May, a student at the University of Amsterdam, a young man, was assaulted by a protester in a keffiyeh, struck in the head with a wooden plank. In August, a statue of Anne Frank was defaced—for the second time—with anti-Israel graffiti. Today, walking around with a kippah in the Netherlands is an act that requires bravery.
As the situation worsened over the years—motivating some, including me, to move, others to adjust, and so many to worry—one of the most painful aspects was the way the Jewish community was gaslit. Dutch society repeatedly told its post-Holocaust Jewish remnant—and itself—that “never again” was not merely a concrete promise, but a core concept of modern Dutch morality. However, the dominant culture of the country’s immigrant communities has proven manifestly hostile to that worldview—and to Jews.
For the North Africans living in Holland, the dominant Jewish story of the twentieth century is not Auschwitz, it is Israel, which in their distorted conception is an illegitimate, one-directional criminal enterprise directed at an innocent population. Nor—and this is crucial—is this merely an attitude about a conflict. They believe it is the crime of the twentieth century, conferring ultimate guilt on the Jewish people. “Palestine” is a phrase felt to carry the gravity of “Holocaust,” grotesquely inverting the perception of the Jewish experience.
For Holland’s Jewry, this reality has been palpable for decades. Yet nothing—no politician, no policy—has altered this reality. In the aftermath of every single violent attack—as will most likely be the case now—the political answer has been a room-temperature broth of subsidies, youth centers, dialogue forums, visits to Islamic pensioners clubs, and interfaith dialogue.
So it did not surprise me when international media outlets, like The Associated Press and The New York Times, covered this widespread attack as if it was the unfortunate, but perhaps expected, result of the Israeli fans’ conduct before and during the match, such as reportedly taunting Ajax fans with inappropriate slogans. Further, the AP wrote, the attack followed a Palestinian flag being “torn down from a building in Amsterdam on Wednesday,” and the rioters were angry because “authorities banned a pro-Palestinian demonstration near the stadium.” The Times originally pinned the attack on differences over sport and on taunts, as “violence tied to a match between Dutch and Israeli teams,” and reported that “the tensions in the hours leading up to the violence” was in part caused by “one man [being heard] saying in Hebrew, ‘The people of Israel live,’ while others shout[ed] anti-Palestinian chants using expletives.” (The Times has apparently stealth-edited its reporting numerous times since publication.)
In other words, if all you read were the initial reports, you might think that the Israelis started it, or at least had it coming.
What the reporters and media fail to understand is that this was an attack on Israeli football fans, but not one carried out by football hooligans. The Ajax team is itself Jewish friendly—fans of Amsterdam’s Ajax are affectionately (and sometimes not-so affectionately) referred to as “super Jews,” and Ajax is understood as the “Jewish team,” so it would make little sense that Ajax supporters would attack Jews or Israelis for their ethnicity—even if they are fans of an opposing team.
No, this was straightforward: According to the accounts of witnesses and victims, it was an attack by immigrant, Muslim communities against Israelis and Jews.

Hi this may divert from my usual content, but as someone with a platform like this I need to speak up about this.
The Philippines-China maritime dispute has been going on for years now, but lately the tensions had been getting more and more worse to the point it’s super concerning now.
Here’s a bit of a history lesson: China claims that the West Philippine Sea is theirs because of the nine-dash line, but the Permanent Court of Arbitration in the Hague ruled in 2016 that that had no basis under international law. Other than that, the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) said that China’s historic rights on the territory no longer exists. So basically, the West Philippine Sea belongs to the Philippines.
However, China rejects that decision. They have harassed, intimidated, and even used armed conflict on our vessels. China Coast Guard (CCG) vessels had even used a water cannon against our ships TWICE, in which one incident resulted to getting seven Navy personnel wounded.
Worse, there are also allegations of a spy being planted here. Alice Guo, one of the mayors in Tarlac (a city in the Philippines) had mysteriously risen to power despite having no prior experience or connections whatsoever. Literally no one even knew her in her town. She just claims to live in a simple farm. However, she owns a luxury sports car and a helicopter. And somehow, everything regarding her past is inconsistent; she doesn’t know what her mother’s name was, who she grew up with, no school documents, hell she didn’t even have a birth certificate up until she was 17 years old. This was all brought up because she was involved in the criminal activities (like human trafficking, scams, etc.) of the Philippine Offshore Gaming Operator (POGO) which also has the Chinese involved.
The US has also been taking advantage of the situation by deploying 9 EDCA sites (military bases) for a supposed military pact, but former US Marine Intelligence Officer Scott Ritter has admitted to using the Philippines as a tool to gain leverage over the Chinese.
What has our government done regarding this dispute? They’re too busy infighting to focus on the bigger picture and on how to settle on an agreement with China.
I just want to take the time to speak up and make people more aware about the ongoing dispute. I know that this has been going on for several years now, but my memory and knowledge about the topic may be a bit wonky so I apologize in advance if I had said anything wrong. You can add more information regarding this or correct the information that I've given if I phrased things wrong.
Regardless, I do know one thing: the West Philippine Sea is ours.

I had a dream about the Ray Bradbury story All Summer in a Day (because a plane dripped water on me while I was trying to doze in my assigned seat?? Just decided to ignore that at least we were finally ON the plane at that point). That one where humanity has bases on Venus, and it rains all day except for the one time every seven years. Anyway, the classmates lock a girl from Earth in a closet because they think she is making things up about this 'sun' thing.
Which later somehow started making me think of Dalnim living in a small apartment by himself, but some misunderstandings make his classmates think he was living under a local bridge. Then one entire week, it rains super hard, and starts flooding rivers, and some of the classmates freak out and lock Dalmin in a school closet over night/the weekend 'for his own good,' on the idea that they don't want Dalmin to fall asleep and get swept away to drown. Which only increases everyone's misunderstandings of one another.
But yeah, in the dorms sounds nice! Plus, work-study programs where he and everyone else can find out about the archives and photography. Maybe Sena is a guest lecturer one day.
I don't know much about what high schools are like nowadays. I remember 7 classes, but some days you had to rotate (class A M-W-F at 10 am, class B T-Th at 10 am), so it was technically more.
I just wound up writing about Tokgasi because parts of Lightning Rod were starting to focus on the aftermath of Aekku's secret document. Like, was everyone caught in one swoop, or did some of the agents notice others getting captured and run off somewhere? And why is the Tokgasi group named after this one individual? Has he done operations like this before?
Personally, I am also kind of obsessed with Field Mouse Number 8.
We see that he was apparently not chosen by Aekku, but is still away on a mission somewhere. Why was he not chosen? Where is he? Will Mulmangcho disguising as him have repercussions? If he is a field mouse/dormouse, and was actually known reasonably enough around the base that Mulmangcho could disguise as him without anyone asking questions, then he was probably close to Commander Jogjebi like the other field mice. Which means he could be off on a spying mission somewhere as part of Jogjebi or the Special Forces' groups. If Commander Jogjebi is gone, what would that mean for his mission if he is on one?
Yeah, maybe the past parts are good to have first. They are entertaining to read, so far.
The layout would be for the farmhouse villa in Lily Bell. Technically I have it all written out in the story, so the details are already there and I can take some liberties. Nothing really seems to contradict itself, but making an actual schematic is hard. I'll have to do it by hand. But, I have figured out I can make something by hand, upload it, and then trace over something in another layer and hide the first layer. So that's nice. Less worried about merging layers and more annoyed that sometimes I can't use the fill function in certain sections anymore after random periods of time. I am learning to use layers when I make clothing, though.
I kind of wish I could have gotten to know my grandfathers, but they both passed away young due to issues with heavy smoking.
I was thinking 'beauty and gracefulness' for Nayeon, for reasons that will come out much later. But yeah, at the moment, they are just not letting Nayeon figure out the truth about Jollin, since her interest in helping the neighbor distracts her from missing her parents, I guess. Plus, she would be bonding with someone who is also missing their parents, from everyone else's perspective.
It wouldn't have been only a simple reference. I was planning on writing more chapters involving perspectives from Geumsaegi, Juldarami, and Flower Hill and their search/investigations to figure out what happened to Bamsaegi. Which would have included a lot of dredging the ocean floor for a bit, and secret internal investigations. So a bit of a duel story going on there. But a soft romance just seemed disrespectful.
Thank you very much for the feedback! It means a lot to me. Although I think the amount of research you put into your own stories is great as well! And you are way better at the naming conventions and Hangul than I could ever be.
Something I did while I was waiting for class.
I don’t know if she would be a new character of mine. But if she was, she would be working as an archivist or doing something based around culture. Idk. She isn’t a character I would place in OFP since she wouldn’t be a solider. She would have been exempted.
The quality came out a bit wonky
#and now the classmates think he has made some sort of den in the woods (not not the one the wolves might be in)#and is probably safer there since hedgehogs burrow anyway#at least until he gets into the dorms#Miami has the WORST airport the thing is five miles long#like why do you have to walk over a mile in corridors to get to passport control what's that about????#still toying with the idea of Seolhyang rooming with a black fox combat medic named Nogitsune who questions her own role#the Strawberry name actually came up because I originally wanted to call Rana Roja some sort of strawberry name#but strawberry poison dart frogs are not pink really it's mostly Photoshop so red it is#but I realized that if she was not from Korea in the AU then maybe I should not give her a Korean name#and that is how a got a bunch of new countries and international relations#I'm lucky there is Red Frog Beach in Panama because that opens up so many things I can do here#and that's how a have an investigative reporter for the Hague#that I may use for like two paragraphs in one chapter down the line because her casual presence makes everyone nervous#I think there was only one person who was ever scared of the random rambling and research drops but everyone else finds it amusing lol#thank you for the compliment!#funny thing is I wrote Lily bell with the idea that only two of my mutuals were going to read it plus maybe a handful of newcomers#that would be hunting for all sah content they could find#I was very confused when more people started reading it but I do not complain at all lmao#I had way more time back then to write since I was too sick to work for a long time#Lightning Rod is. going to be long lol#I originally had 18 story arcs planned with most of them one chapter long like an episode#I just finished what was supposed to be the THIRD story arc#help#to be fair I did add a ton of stuff in between and a lot of new details have been added and moved around as I do research#well I suppose to be fair the original goal WAS to surpass 145K words#Imagine Sena gives a guest lecture on the archives and the class is bored at first#but then they start side eyeing Dalnim as everyone has the hive mind collective thought that it would be perfect for him#everyone except Dalnim himself perhaps at least until later#They did this in our school for careers and sometimes you just knew who should go for it and you hadn’t known the job had existed before#Or he just finds out about it accident lol

Valentine's day!
Today was valentine's day and you just got ready and walked out to see matakara waiting for you like a puppy with the way he perked seeing you.
" good morning, Y/n-chan!"
" good morning, matakara."
You give him a smile before you reached into the bag you were carrying and hand him chocolates you know are his favorite when you both were kids.
" you remembered my favorite."
" of course."
You and matakara walked to school together, he offered you a piece of the chocolate.
You walked onto school grounds.
" y/n-teen!"
Marito yelled as he ran towards you, you knew that you couldn't out run him so you just accepted fate and braced.
Matakara tried to stop him and protect you from the siguma squad leader but failed.
Marito picked you up and you grabbed onto his shoulder while holding onto the bag in the other hand as he spins excited.
" y/n-teen! Good morning, happy valentine's day."
" yah, happy valentine's day."
You say when he stopped, you looked around seeing that outa wasn't with him.
" where's outa?"
" oh, he's off doing something."
" okay."
Marito looked at you bating his eyelashes at you expectingly waiting.
" put me down and I'll give it to you."
Marito put you down smiling as you reached into your bag putting the box of chocolate filled cookies with animals on them in marito's hand.
" thank you, y/n-teen!"
Marito said before he kissed the side of your head.
You walked into the school and noticed komao looking out the window for you.
You walked into the classroom and komao quickly got up to greet you hugging you.
" good morning."
" Haha, good morning."
You and komao walked to your seats next to zabu.
" happy valentine's day, I said it first so I get my chocolate first."
Komao said before he looked at zabu with a small smirk, zabu hit komao with his elbow but komao had a smaller smirk.
You laughed at them messing around before you reached into the bag pulling out container with a slice of cookie cake inside.
" yay! Thank you, y/n-san."
Komao looked at it as if think he should wait to eat it before he opened it and took a bite.
You smile and reach back into the bag before giving zabu a chocolate bar and a few smaller ones.
" tisk, thanks."
Zabu took it and was hiding his excitement from getting chocolate.
Soon the bell rings for lunch, you walked around the school looking for someone who you have chocolate for.
You walk into the gym looking for outa to give him the chocolate you have for him.
Some siguma members looked at you before they started giving you a hard time.
" what's going on over here?"
Outa had walked over and the siguma members quickly left you alone.
" happy valentine's day, outa."
You said as you gave him mochi chocolate, he took it with a soft smile before he put his hand on your head.
" thank you."
You left the gym and ran into hague and jabashiri eating at a table by the vending machines.
You sit down at the table with them putting the bag next to you.
" hey, good afternoon."
" oh. Hello, y/n-san."
" tisk."
You reach into the bag and give Hague a white chocolate bar, Hague blushed gently take the bar.
Jabashiri was looking at you intently and looked away when you looked at him.
You laughed at him before you put 2 dark chocolate bar in front of him.
" there, you were upset yesterday about the vending machine not having it."
Hague lightly kicked jabashiri's leg before jabashiri said.
" thanks."
The bell rang and you left going to class, you sat next to arajin.
" do you know if mahoro brought any chocolate for anyone?"
" no, I don't think she did."
" oh here."
You reached into your bag and gave him 2 a chocolate bar and shrine offering like chocolate.
" what?"
Arajin flipped over the shrine chocolate and on the back was a small doodle of a small senya.
Soon the last bell rings and you walk off school grounds and to minato kai's base.
You knocked on the door where ken-san was before you slid open the paper door.
Ken-san looked over and sat down, you walked in and sat down as well.
' this is a bit awkward, I was hopeing to leave the chocolate and go.'
You snap out of your thoughts when ken-san gestures for the 2 guys to leave the room.
You reach into your bag and pull out a small box of different chocolates before you hand it to him.
" I didn't know which kind you liked so I got a box of different chocolates."
You said before you jump startled by ken-san bowing, you quickly also bowed.
You could hear the murmurs and whispers of the guys eavesdropping and peeping in through a small crack in the door.
You leave and walk home as the sun is setting, you looked at the sun set and pulled out your phone to take a picture but you couldn't find the perfect angle.
You feel someone's behind you before 2 gloved hands gently take your phone from your hands and held it a bit above your head taking the photo.
" good afternoon, happy valentine's day."
" good afternoon."
You turned to him and tried to take your phone back but he had a tight grip on it.
You look at him pulling on your phone but he won't let go, shindo was giving you a closed eyed smile wanting something.
You reach into your bag and grabbed the last two 2, a chocolate bar and a shrine chocolate bar.
You put the chocolate in his other hand and he let go of your phone.
" thank you."
' bro what the fuck.'
You walked into your house and upstairs onto your bed.
