Resident Evil - Digimon AU (Part 5)

My first thought was to give Chris, as the typical protagonist, an Agumon version, but then I decided to have a bit more fun. Boulder-punching Chris gets a rock Digimon that turns into a volcano guy. Boltmon also looks like it can punch boulders. Maybe Chris could have a competition with it.

Claire’s Digimon is purely based on the jacket she wore in early games. I didn’t like the regular Digivolution line with Gatomon for her, though.

I’ve created some Vanguard Digivolution lines. After Tamer ZERO I plan to do a different take on the crossover with different partners that’s more of a complete au.

These ones just include their straightforward lines and possible dark evos. I don’t know when this story is happening because I’m determined to finish Tamer ZERO first so here’s the lines😅.

I was thinking that him having a different partner for season 2 would make sense considering this a complete au where everything is Digimon instead of Vanguard. So instead of his deck getting poofed away it’s his partner with the two coming together as a jogress representing the Liberators.

I also kinda want to use Erlangmon with him at some point 🤔. I’m still deciding how I would want to implement that. Maybe it could be a form that his partner takes on due to the Messiah equivalent’s influence. I do like the idea of his Digimon going from virus to vaccine.

This is a different take from his partner pick in Tamer ZERO focusing more on the narrative idea on the development from Agumon representing young Kai to the distorted original Metalgreymon. With this comes with a shift from vaccine to virus as he becomes obsessed with gaining power to save Ren. I think BlitzGreymon is very the End-like.

Kamui’s alternate partner choice was so hard because I decided that every member of Q4 has a partner that’s a different one of the main types so Kamui ended up with free which I think fits him well.

Dianamon was a really easy choice fr😅. I also like the idea of her having a jogress with Kourin.

This line is more in reference to her manga/reboot deck whereas the Tamer ZERO one is based on og. Overall, I think it fits rather well as an alternate pick.

Loogamon is unfortunately too new to have an edgy recolor so the best I could do is Gabumon Black. I have considered giving him Dracmon too because I think they’d vibe. The only reason there is no ultra is because I can’t think of a good candidate for it rn.

You may have noticed a pattern with all the Psyqualia users (minus Ibuki because the choice for him is perfect regardless of if it breaks the theme) that their partners are all virus type (at some point at least). I thought it would be an interesting reference to the darker side of Psyqualia. Doing Leon’s made me realize that we need more aquatic Digimon fr.

There’s no way I couldn’t give Deletor Ibuki Arcadiamon. It’s WAY too perfect. Its power level even fits well. After getting friendship speeched he has Hackmon for obvious reasons.

There’s no way I couldn’t give him Veemon. Using a jogress as a normal evolution is a bit weird but it’s been done before. Also because I was thinking that Paladin Mode reminds me a lot of Chronojet Dragon Z. It’s mode changes as Imperialdramon could be interpreted as it’s many strides. In the future I might include UlforceVeedramon or a different version of Magnamon here (to avoid too much overlap) as references to other strides. The black armored Magnamon is from ReArise. I was thinking it would be a good non-Stingmon included ultimate for Imperialdramon.

I have actually made one for Akina but I want to wait for DivineZ to progress more before finalizing it. I’m still playing around with various ideas on what to give Yu-yu. I’m thinking maybe Dorumon as a reference to Aichi having a beta Digimon considering the Dress seasons seem to remix ideas from the original.

“First Meeting”

More of my Swords and Bones ship (yes this is the ship name I gave to Jesmon x Craniamon. It just works so well 😩👌) but this time when they are kids! Honestly for my own stuff, I do imagine that Jes and Crania met a long time ago when they were kids back during Jes’ and Gankoo’s travel days with the Sistermons. While it would be a short time they got to known each other the two would have hit off really well, even getting Kotemon a new long term goal of becoming a Royal Knight just like his new and first friend (Also maybe to impress this cool mon a little bit if they met again in the future 👀) The two did make a promise that they would see each other again and if destiny allows it, comrades as new Royal Knights. Though it isn’t something that went exactly like that as Crania ended up as Knight earlier( he worked hard to achieve all of his evolution allowing him to evolve more earlier to his later evos than most in his evolution line) once he hit his Mega Evolution.

Another thing I wanted to share is that I LOVE the idea of back when Jesmon was an Hackmon he would collect old and disowned Royal Knight Merchandise or old books/magazines as he wasn’t able to get any new ones easily, and usually would ask Gankoo or the Sistermons if he could keep them (if not he would leave it alone but sad about it. If given the okay he would gleefully grab it and loudly proclaim he will take really good care of it). But despite that he absolutely treasured the items and always made to sure to keep them in shape, even if it means DIYing it to repair any damage done to it over time with tapes or even Bandaids. Jesmon still does this to this day of making sure all of his items are in peak form and even carefully putting them away or putting them in extra protection.

A while back before Namco revealed official art for Vemmon, Snatchmon, Destromon, and Galacticmon (20 years after their original appearance in Digimon World 3!) I had done my own art of them in the classic official style, scroll far enough back on my feed and you will find them! But I wanted more, we needed a Gaiamon to go with the Vemmon line, we already had one for the Appmon series, and if Hackmon can be a Digimon and an Appmon then so can he! So here is my version of Gaiamon, complete with a little DOTGaiamon sprite! I really enjoy this one, I wanted him to look like he was on par with if not exceeding the Sovereign Digimon. Compact but imposing.

Who would the ReTired Trio have as Digimon Partners?

These partners/digivolutions apply to both the retired trio and the bayverse bots. I've based them on the digivolution lines present in Cybersleuth/Hackers Memory.

Ratchet:

Kerpymon (Good), Antylamon, Gargomon, Lopmon

A cute rabbit digimon would be great for Ratch due to his love of small creatures. Antylamon is described as being fascinated by and protecting smaller creatures, which fits with Ratchet's personality. Kerpymon is a protector/healer and I'm biased because it's one of my favorite digimon. And poor Lopmon always gets overshadowed by Terriermon, so I gotta give it some love.

Ironhide:

Chaosdramon, Machinedramon, Gigadramon, Growlmon, Guilmon

I chose the Guilmon to Chaosdramon line for two reasons. I like the concept that depending on how Guilmon is raised, it can go down the path of light or darkness real fast (pertaining to the digital hazard sign on its body). This connects to bot!Hide being a Con at the start of the war but choosing to side with the autobots. Chaosdramon is purely for the mechanical behemoth traits and the dual infinity cannons. Ironhide would love those.

Optimus:

Jesmon, Saviorhuckmon, Baohuckmon, Hackmon

I went with this route because Hackmon's line has a strong sense of justice and has undergone significant amounts of mental and physical training. The fact that it's a physical attacker fits in with Bay!Optimus's brawler attack style.

The bone composition of its body references humanformer Optimus's job as museum director. Plus, I was obligated to give Optimus a member of the Royal Knights as a Prime himself.

Had this dumb and wild story idea because why not?

So I was playing Digimon Cybersluth last night for the millionth time and realized I have a lot of evil looking Digimon and that doesn't really fit my character.

So I thought of which Digimon some of the remaining boys planet members would have and this is what I got.

SHanbin would have a Leomon to Leopardmon or the Hackmon line. Can be soft. Protective. Leader quality.

Ricky same as me. Dark looking mons. Beelzemon or Armageddemon. But he's actually a good guy working in the shadows.

Takuto would have a line that stays pretty cute the whole time like Kerpymon (good) or something like Piximon to MarineAngemon.

I sat here trying to think of who would fit the Seadramon line up to Plesiomon and I'm stumped which is sad because it's one of my favorites.

Alright. No disrespectful. Not a fan of this list. So I'm gonna make my own. Starting with

Ruby:

I think a better choice for Ruby as a partner would hackmon

He has a cape like her and had similar dream to Ruby. Ruby wanted to be a Huntress, Hackmon wants to be a royal knight. Plus the Hackmon line fits Ruby pretty well.

Weiss:

Weiss and gomamon on paper fit will. At first. But once Gomamon digivole, he fits less as his most popular line fits Nora better than Weiss. A better digimon for Weiss that fits her ice themes is Blucomon

Yang

Yang having Agumon is great. It just that she wouldn't that Agumon variation wouldn't fit her. The 2006 Variant fits her better.

And yes, they are consider different lol. I'd go the geogreymon line for her but instead of ending with Shinegreymon, I'd end it with Wargreymon. Despite me loving Shinegreymon more.....

Blake

Alright, so. Gatomon fine for Blake but she a champion and I don't see why Blake would start with a Champion. Also, it should be BlackGatomon instead of White gatomon. Ladydevilmon to Beelstarmon is a good route for Blake's Partner. But the Rookie from should be Black Gabumon.

Jaune

Now Gabumon is an okay parnter for Jaune. Jaune was one of the hardest on this list to think of. First I was thinking Gulimon to Gallentmon/Dukemon but then something hit me. Lunamon. A bunny that has a moon Cresent like Jaune family crest.

She would be a bit odd but a good fit for jaune. Gulimon being my second option.

Pyhrra

For my own au, I pair Pyhrra up with a mon thst didn't fit her on purpose. But for this there is a mon that fits our cereal girl.

Mostly for his Final evolution Apollomon.

Nora

Just give her gomamon instead of Weiss.

Ren

Palmon fits Ren pretty well it just togemon doesn't but the idea of Ren going from lillymon to bancholillymon is funny as hell lol

Those who have induldged themselves in more than just anime, know that in one of audio dramas we find out Jun Motomiya, Chizuru Inoue, Momoe Inoue, and Shuu Kido got Digimon partners in 2003, so I gave myself some artistic freedom and imagined their Digimon partners (and partners' evolution lines):

The Digimon Survive-esque evos for the messiahs continue

With the messiahs fighting alongside their Digimon, they evolve based on the main attack type you have been using since their last form. These also correspond to the vaccine, data, virus trio of types. When this idea suddenly came to me I had to redo all of them in this style.

I wanted to stick with exclusively older Digimon for him. In universe, as a reference to mega being an addition he would probably only go up to ultimate during the game events and have a mega later like in his boss fights in other games.

Hackmon is already perfect for him. I can even imagine Beth having a Sistermon to go along with it. I imagine Paladin Mode is gaining power from Kazuya’s partner that’s still hanging around (I think the Cerberus is SMT II is the same one). The completely white sprite is Jesmon GX.

ChaosGallantmon is a higher because it’s the result of a biomerge. I used AncientGreymon because Susannomon fits more for Nahobino.

Considering he’s a soldier giving him D-Brigade Digimon makes sense to me.

These two are from part 1. I thought it would be awkward if they weren’t here. I did their post yesterday.

Nowadays, most Digimon (the new ones anyway) are stuck on a pretty restricted Digivolution line. Like Hackmon (Huckmon?) is stuck on the Jesmon line. Zubamon is stuck to Durandamon. Really boring.

Actually that’s not quite correct.

While de facto lines are a thing, Digimon are rarely restricted to them outside of actual anime. More often than not, these de facto lines are treated as one of several options:

While there are some de facto lines implied such as Jellymon > TeslaJellymon > Thetismon > Amphimon and Ikkakumon > Zudomon > Vikemon, there are others that don’t line up with this such as KoDokugumon > ShellNumemon > Majiramon > Cthyllamon and Jellymon > Kinkakumon > either Majiramon or Zudomon

And then you have the current card game where you literally just need the color to be compatible with the Digimon you’re trying to Digivolve towards barring stuff like Jogress and Digimon who can Digivolve from a specifically named Digimon.

Even in the anime, you get shenanigans like Gatomon from Adventure (classic and 2020) not only canonically having both Magnadramon and Ophanimon as Level VI stages but the Adventure 2020 iteration having SkullKnightmon and DarkKnightmon as Level IV and Level V stages, albeit as a "corrupted" forms though to quote Gennai:

the truth is, when it comes to digivolving, there's no right or wrong.

In any event, I don’t think there’s any real wrong answer for whether or not a human could be fully converted into a Digimon since the closest thing to this are the various human-digimon Hybrids that have appeared periodically.

Digimon Ghost Game #45 as a Celebration/Homage to Appmon

As promised, here is a post in which I attempt to detail all of the elements that I noticed in Ghost Game episode 45 that seemed like a reference or allusion to Appmon. Which, let me be clear right now, I do not view as a bad thing. I think it's awesome; a deliberate choice to celebrate Appmon's 6th anniversary and assert (once again!) that Appmon is 100% a main-line Digimon series.

It seems to me that DGG’s showrunners placed several Appmon Easter eggs in this episode, and while I acknowledge that I may be reading a bit too much into it, I wanted to be comprehensive, so you get everything I noticed, no matter how small and possibly coincidental.

This post is going to contain minor spoilers for Appmon episodes 51 & 52, so proceed at your own risk.

First, the obvious. Publimon is apparently a brand-new digimon who is very obviously derived from Reviewmon and Kosomon (both featured most prominently in Appmon episode 11).

Publimon’s MO (writing news headlines about accidents that take place in the future, and then engineering circumstances around the subjects of those headlines to ensure they become true) and motivation (doing it all for attention/likes/clicks/engagement) was basically that of an Appmon Monster-of-the-Day: a manifestation of real-world technology which, when infected, runs amuck and tampers with humanity’s relationship with that technology (often while drawing parallels to additional real-world issues, including over-reliance on certain apps/computer systems, deepfakes, flame wars, etc.). “Fake news” was a pretty nascent term when Appmon debuted in 2016 and (I don’t think) explicitly inspired any episodes, so it’s interesting that Ghost Game touches on this concept (Hiro to Publimon: “You’re just fabricating events!”). In that way, Ghost Game gets to update the list of human/technology topics that Appmon was so diligent in referencing six years previously.

Some additional (potential) Easter eggs regarding Publimon: although I don’t know anything concrete about how his design and attacks were codified (if it was by Toei/DGG staff or Bandai… presumably the latter), it is also interesting to me that Publimon uses multiple keyboards in a way that is very reminiscent of Rei’s “Double Hack” and “Triple Hack” assists to Hackmon, and the attack in which Publimon enlarges those keyboards and attempts to smash a target between them is reminiscent of Sakusimon’s trap, also from episode 11.

Is Publimon that much of a walking, talking reference to Appmon 11?

As @shihalyfie pointed out, this episode aired as close as possible to Appmon’s 1st episode anniversary air date (Oct. 1), and, much how Appmon episode 13 "weaponized" the date of August 1, DGG 45 weaponizes October 1, and has some of its action take place then as well.

(It is also probably worth mentioning that Appmon #45 did a similar homage to the wider Digimon franchise by having Haru not only admit to playing a Digimon video game, but teaming up with the Agumon from that game! The episode numbering definitely seems like a coincidence given the GG hiatus caused by the Toei hack, but it’s a really fun little bonus that it happened to work out this way!)

Moreover, DGG45 is structured a bit more like an Appmon episode (or really, a large percentage of several other Toei properties/MotD Digimon episodes that are not based primarily around horror). There is a fair bit of time spent with the main characters and the Victims of the Day outside of DGG’s usually-very-tense horror setting, and the horror itself is brief and relatively light, to the point that Ghost Game’s trademark visual cue (edge-of-the-frame color-separation, which usually shows us when DGG’s MotD is exerting a particularly strong influence on their victim) is, as far as I can recall, completely absent... a strong indicator that Ghost Game is intentionally taking a break from its usual format. Not to mention how very important smartphones are...

Once the D-Topics are introduced, the inclusion of a three-idol group is immediately interesting to me as well. Narratively speaking, you only need one celebrity (and, once they chose to focus on idols, would have seemed like a nod to Eri Karan of Appmon regardless). If they had still wanted to write the “cooking competition” aspect that put skydiving as a "punishment" for losing on the table, they could have gotten by with two idols (this would have also worked without needing to bring Ryudamon into the Gammamon/Kiyoshiro dynamic, as well as matching the number of special guest stars they had for this episode—see below). But they went with three, which (aside from giving us more time with Ryudamon!) still seems like a deliberate nod to Appmon. After all, when Eri was shown in her day-to-day idol life with any members of the (comically oversized) AppliYama 470, it was usually Alice and Elena– the three of them are even shown in the epilogue in (new) matching uniforms doing some sort of promotion, so them being a trio is very prominent and is the last image you see of Eri’s life as an idol!

There’s also the fact that the big climax of this episode occurs during a skydiving incident. When Gammamon dove out of the plane and pulled Hiro along with him, I couldn’t help being reminded of Haru’s “it all comes down to this” unassisted jump and accidental freefall that served as the cliffhanger in the penultimate episode. Luckily for both Haru and Hiro, their partners came through!!

Finally, the addition of some Adventure Easter eggs (using FujiTV as a location, and two of D-Topi’s three idols being voiced by none other than AiM [original Mimi] and Mimi’s voice actress from Adventure: —thanks for that tip @digitalgate02!) brings it full circle. With DGG45, you’re actively watching 24 minutes of a Digimon series paying homage to two other ones. Adventure, Appmon, Ghost Game… it’s all one big beautiful franchise, baby!
